- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So today I would like to discuss with you.
- 0:34The theory of doing things right?
- 0:36Because boy oh boy as human beings, we have a lot of rules
- 0:41and I know because I have a lot of rules to trust me.
- 0:44If you're in my house, my husband will attest to the fact
- 0:48that there are right ways and wrong ways to do things that I
- 0:51have come up with. And my way of folding, the
- 0:53towels is the right way. In my way of loading, the
- 0:55dishwasher is the right way, and he looks at me like, I'm insane.
- 0:59And yes, I Probably I'm insane. When it comes to certain things
- 1:02like this and these are the the gifts and the curses of being a
- 1:08human being. Well, I want to discuss with
- 1:10you. The rules that you've come up
- 1:13with about doing things the right way and how those things
- 1:17affect other people around you. So is it okay to have rules
- 1:23about how to fold the towels or where to park the car, or how to
- 1:28load the dishwasher, whatever it might be full?
- 1:30Close. You know when you come in where
- 1:34you put the mail, there's so many of these thousands of these
- 1:37little tiny things that we have are our way of doing it and
- 1:42these little like Enthusiast parts of ourselves that we pass
- 1:46on to others and expect them to hold the line.
- 1:50So is it okay to have them? Yes, it's 100%.
- 1:53Okay, to have them, there's actually gifts in it because
- 1:56it's kind of like they give you certainty little things in our
- 2:00lives. Give us certainty when we're
- 2:02doing them, the certain specific way.
- 2:04So think of it this way, if you are someone that likes to be
- 2:08prepared and that's part of your emotional makeup.
- 2:12You your, you never fly by the seat of your pants.
- 2:14You always like, to be prepared you.
- 2:16And I'm using myself as an example right now, in my head,
- 2:19because this is 100% Who I Am. I like to make sure I have stock
- 2:25on everything. So, I'm on my phone all the time
- 2:29with clients and Use earbuds. Well, I will not use the
- 2:33wireless ones because I burned them out so quickly, so I use
- 2:36wired ones. Well, if you open the drawer of
- 2:38my desk, I have six brand new sets of wired Apple headsets
- 2:44because I burn them out, they go in my pocket.
- 2:46They're in the laundry. Sometimes they get washed and do
- 2:50I want to just get them one at a time?
- 2:52Nope. I'll have six, which might
- 2:55family thinks, is me saying, why do you buy them like that?
- 2:57Because I like to be prepared. And this is part of my Need for
- 3:01myself, my little habits. If you will rituals whatever it
- 3:05is to be stocked because that gives you something that gives
- 3:10me something in the process. And for me it's doing it, right?
- 3:13If I'm prepared for my business, I'm doing it the right way.
- 3:18Now do I have to put those rules on other people and other
- 3:21aspects of the life that we lead?
- 3:24No I don't but we end up doing it.
- 3:27We end up doing it and often it's the Jumping off point for
- 3:32anger issues in our, in our world, in our homes, and our
- 3:35businesses, with our employees. Everything.
- 3:38We have a way we do it. And the hardest part is, when we
- 3:43don't convey it and we don't say it.
- 3:45So in your personal World in your family, this is a sensitive
- 3:51spot because usually our partners are not necessarily
- 3:55well informed of how we like it. They just know when they did it
- 3:59wrong. Because we show up and say,
- 4:03well, why did you do it this way?
- 4:04And we get snippy about it, and we'll say, well, the right way.
- 4:07Is this way or this is the way I do it.
- 4:09Well, everyone has to be comfortable living in the house.
- 4:12Now, that's a line that I actually heard from my husband.
- 4:17He said to me, listen, it's our house.
- 4:20And this goes back many years, and we should be comfortable
- 4:23doing this together. I can't just be all your way
- 4:25with this stuff and he's, and he was completely right, and I just
- 4:29never thought of it. That way and I'm like, no, he
- 4:31deserves to be comfortable in his own house too.
- 4:34So I have to back off on my rules with this or or and this
- 4:38is more what I do. I can't ask for help with those
- 4:42things that I am rigid on. So you know what, I don't ask
- 4:46him to fold the towels, I don't ask him to unload the dishwasher
- 4:50or load the dishwasher up even though he does it.
- 4:52If I have a problem with it I can go back and I can redo it if
- 4:57I'm that uptight about it and I have that many Rules around it,
- 5:01then great, you keep your rules, but you go back and fix it
- 5:05yourself without attitude, without being pissy about it
- 5:09without showing somebody that they did something quote unquote
- 5:13wrong because you did it quote unquote, right?
- 5:16And it's really important because if you really want to
- 5:20take yourself to the next level, you have to get past these
- 5:23things that cause conflict and cause Discord in your world.
- 5:27Now, when it comes to business, this is what's interesting.
- 5:31If you're creating a business World teams, you have something
- 5:35where you have employees, you're allowed to have rules on this
- 5:39stuff, absolutely allowed to have rules, but you have to
- 5:42figure out how to convey them in a way that other people
- 5:45understand them, they have to know what the expectations are.
- 5:48And then you have to make sure they live up to them.
- 5:52You have to teach them how to live up to them.
- 5:55You can't just make a decision that says, oh, yeah.
- 5:57Well, this is what I'm going to do and this is how I'm going to
- 6:00do. It and then nobody else is
- 6:03nobody else is going to be able to live up to it and it's going
- 6:06to get all confusing for everybody.
- 6:08You have to make sure they can live up to it.
- 6:10You have to make sure you teach them and then if they can't, or
- 6:12they're not willing that's a different story.
- 6:14You can then say, Hey listen, Maybe This isn't right for you.
- 6:18You have to go, but you have to give them the ability to live up
- 6:21to it. You have to give them the
- 6:22ability to attain it. So today your challenge is to
- 6:26figure out for yourself. You know, where are these
- 6:29hiccups? In your head where are you just
- 6:34stuck on doing things right and because you're so stuck on doing
- 6:37them right. It holds you back from getting
- 6:39anything done at all because one you're just so rigid with the
- 6:43rules that you haven't allowed anything else to take place.
- 6:47So, I hope you guys have an amazing day and find your spots
- 6:53and let go of some of what's right?
- 6:55I'll talk to you soon. Bye.
