- 0:12Speaker 1: Podcast Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:20Speaker 3: He's their best receiver. I don't think they have a
- 0:22Speaker 3: number one receiver. I don't think they have.
- 0:24Speaker 4: Their number one. But he's not on number one.
- 0:26Speaker 5: For things that really get under Mike Desoa skin Saman
- 0:28Speaker 5: that's the one.
- 0:29Speaker 4: Yeah, x y Z one football.
- 0:32Speaker 6: Talk him getting banged up and being inconsistent and Mike
- 0:35Speaker 6: did he play the X?
- 0:36Speaker 4: I think it was one two three x y Z.
- 0:39Speaker 3: By the way, can we get a close up of
- 0:41Speaker 3: dous of Socks offered him a lower contract after the
- 0:45Speaker 3: team offered him more money. The Bengals offered him more money.
- 0:48Speaker 5: Not how you do negotiation.
- 0:50Speaker 6: Yeah, and none of the McCartney who young guys, you know,
- 0:53Speaker 6: like maybe like there might be more perculating instead.
- 1:00Speaker 5: They could win the game and not necessarily have a
- 1:02Speaker 5: great offensive day. But I'm talking about the like they
- 1:05Speaker 5: just came out and lit it.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I might take my shirt off in Cincinnati.
- 1:10Speaker 7: Just for the record, this is Patriot's Unfiltered, presented by
- 1:15Speaker 7: Toyota's official website for deals buy a Toyota dot com.
- 1:21Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 1:26Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium, our first Wednesday show of the regular season.
- 1:30Speaker 2: As a reminder, Patriots Unfiltered will be with you every Tuesday,
- 1:33Speaker 2: Wednesday and Thursday from twelve to two here on in
- 1:37Speaker 2: throughout the regular season and as long as that season.
- 1:40Speaker 5: Lasts, and we have back to our roots.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Freddy, Yeah, just Paul and I for the time being,
- 1:46Speaker 2: open locker room, so evan inducer in the locker room,
- 1:49Speaker 2: gathering up quotes, and they'll be here, oh, you know,
- 1:52Speaker 2: in about half an hour or so, maybe a little sooner,
- 1:56Speaker 2: but that's where they are. And as soon as they're done,
- 1:59Speaker 2: they will join us on the show. We're getting ready
- 2:03Speaker 2: of obviously, what are you doing over there?
- 2:05Speaker 5: I got some issues?
- 2:06Speaker 2: Okay, you went to the doctor today. I did. Is
- 2:09Speaker 2: that what you did?
- 2:10Speaker 5: And I took the thing off too, So still you're bleeding?
- 2:13Speaker 2: You're all right?
- 2:14Speaker 5: I don't want to get on my nice shirt.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true. You got a nice You're going with
- 2:18Speaker 2: the North Carolina colors a lot lately. Somebody tell you
- 2:22Speaker 2: that bring out your eyes.
- 2:23Speaker 5: I'm a big Drake maybe Okay, all.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Right, Uh, but speaking of Drake may he will not
- 2:28Speaker 2: play in this game. It'll be Jacobyers said, well, we
- 2:31Speaker 2: hope is the starter. Yeah, we hope. And uh Gerard
- 2:38Speaker 2: Mayo spoke this just moments ago about the game. Mentioned
- 2:42Speaker 2: their defensive front something that we talked about yesterday. Maybe
- 2:46Speaker 2: the strength of their defense.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Well, certainly the the edge rushers are Yeah, and uh,
- 2:51Speaker 5: I thought Gerard was was right in pointing out it's
- 2:54Speaker 5: not just one a one man show. You know, Sam
- 2:56Speaker 5: Hubbard's pretty good too, So those two guys are going
- 2:59Speaker 5: to be pressing for regardless of who plays tackle. And
- 3:02Speaker 5: Mayo got into that a little bit too.
- 3:04Speaker 2: You mentioned that a couple things that don't quite line up,
- 3:10Speaker 2: but I guess, you know, if you think about it,
- 3:13Speaker 2: I guess they do. But he said the offensive line
- 3:15Speaker 2: will look pretty much like it looked in the Commander's
- 3:19Speaker 2: preseason game. But they're still sorting through.
- 3:22Speaker 5: That, right. And the other thing about that that I'm
- 3:24Speaker 5: not really sure of is city So was injured in
- 3:28Speaker 5: that game. So was he talking about the group that
- 3:31Speaker 5: started the game, you know, probably with David, you know,
- 3:33Speaker 5: with David Andrews and so on and so forth, or
- 3:38Speaker 5: is he talking about the group that finished the you know,
- 3:41Speaker 5: like with with you know, finished the quote unquote first
- 3:43Speaker 5: team reps when so had gone out. So I think there,
- 3:47Speaker 5: I think he's right. Like, I think they're still sorting
- 3:50Speaker 5: some of those things out. Andrews and a win who
- 3:52Speaker 5: will be two of them? Not even sure exactly where
- 3:55Speaker 5: a when who will be, but I'm pretty comfortable that
- 3:58Speaker 5: those will be two of them.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I think a core four will.
- 4:01Speaker 5: Be another one. Yeah, But I'm not exactly sure how
- 4:04Speaker 5: it will all unfold because Venerian Lowe, you know, is
- 4:07Speaker 5: still sort of working his way back, so I'm kind
- 4:10Speaker 5: of getting doubtful on him.
- 4:11Speaker 2: So if you're the Bengals, do you go right at
- 4:14Speaker 2: the Patriots right away? Or do you play a little
- 4:16Speaker 2: ropodope and then like in the second quarter, you just
- 4:19Speaker 2: bring the heat.
- 4:20Speaker 5: And just yeah, And I've said this, and you know,
- 4:24Speaker 5: maybe I'll be wrong about it, but I wouldn't get
- 4:26Speaker 5: too aggressive going after the Patriots quarterbacks. I don't think
- 4:29Speaker 5: you need to. I think you can sort of and
- 4:32Speaker 5: I don't think that Cincinnati necessarily does a lot of that.
- 4:35Speaker 5: They kind of do what they do well, and I
- 4:39Speaker 5: would test the offensive line with my front four and
- 4:42Speaker 5: see what kind of pressure. Now, if it's not working,
- 4:45Speaker 5: if the Patriots are holding up better than people think
- 4:47Speaker 5: they will, then you change, you adjust. That's that's what
- 4:50Speaker 5: Belichick was great at, sort of figuring out how the
- 4:53Speaker 5: game declares early on and adjusting accordingly. But if I
- 4:57Speaker 5: were lou In Arumo, that's twice did that right, I
- 5:01Speaker 5: would let Trey Hendrickson and Sam Harvard go after them
- 5:05Speaker 5: and see if you can pressure those tackles and get
- 5:08Speaker 5: after Jacoby Brissett without having to blitz.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Yeah, and then you know, as far as the Patriots
- 5:14Speaker 2: attacking the Bengals, if Chase doesn't play, and so far
- 5:21Speaker 2: it looks like he.
- 5:22Speaker 5: Won't, yeah, I would be surprised at this point. But
- 5:24Speaker 5: today is a big day, you know, it's it's Wednesday,
- 5:27Speaker 5: it's installed day. This is when you get the you know,
- 5:29Speaker 5: the the entirety of the game plan is is established.
- 5:32Speaker 5: So if he misses a Wednesday, and it's a little
- 5:35Speaker 5: different than a normal week for a guy like this,
- 5:39Speaker 5: you know, during the during the you know, let's say
- 5:40Speaker 5: it was week ten and Chase had been playing all
- 5:43Speaker 5: nine weeks. But he's been battling on an ankle spraining
- 5:46Speaker 5: or something, and they kept him out of practice. I
- 5:48Speaker 5: still would think he'd have a chance to play. But
- 5:50Speaker 5: he hasn't done anything all training camp. You know, I'm
- 5:53Speaker 5: sure he's conditioning, but it's not the same. He hasn't
- 5:55Speaker 5: done any eleven on eleven work with the Bengals, and
- 5:59Speaker 5: then you're gonna miss the the install day and not
- 6:02Speaker 5: even take a full week of practice. I think if
- 6:04Speaker 5: he doesn't practice today, I think that's the.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Only solos I would give Bengals fans is you know,
- 6:10Speaker 2: it's still Joe Burrow who and Jamar Chase and they
- 6:13Speaker 2: probably have, you know, some chemistry.
- 6:16Speaker 5: So if Chase plays that, you know, I don't expect
- 6:21Speaker 5: him to be you know, mid season form, but that
- 6:23Speaker 5: will still be a problem.
- 6:25Speaker 2: It will still be a problem. But like I said,
- 6:28Speaker 2: right now, it looks like he's not going to play,
- 6:32Speaker 2: and if he doesn't, even if he well, let's let's
- 6:35Speaker 2: put it this way. Whether he plays or not, I
- 6:38Speaker 2: think a key for the Patriots defense is Christian Gonzales.
- 6:42Speaker 2: You know, can he take whether it's t Higgins or
- 6:45Speaker 2: Jamar Chase, can he go one on one and free
- 6:48Speaker 2: up the rest of that defense.
- 6:50Speaker 5: I agree, and I do think that if Chase doesn't play,
- 6:54Speaker 5: it affords them the luxury of sending multiple people at
- 6:58Speaker 5: t Higgins and making the other guys be because I
- 7:00Speaker 5: don't really think that they have a lot of depth.
- 7:03Speaker 5: They let Tyler Boyd go and they're handing it over
- 7:07Speaker 5: to a young slot guy. I think he's the Princeton
- 7:10Speaker 5: kid that Mike was talking about yesday, andre Yeshivas. I
- 7:13Speaker 5: think is how you pronounce the name. But I'm not
- 7:15Speaker 5: positive on that. They like him, they think he's ready
- 7:19Speaker 5: to go. I think Trenton Irwin is another guy that
- 7:21Speaker 5: they've sort of sporadically put in the offense, and an
- 7:24Speaker 5: old friend, Mike Gasicki, is kind of serving as their
- 7:28Speaker 5: their slot guy out of tight end. I don't think
- 7:31Speaker 5: that's really a receiving corps beyond Chase and Higgins. Now
- 7:35Speaker 5: those are obviously two very good players, but beyond those
- 7:38Speaker 5: two guys, I don't think it's it's a core that
- 7:40Speaker 5: strikes a lot of fear into secondaries. I would think
- 7:42Speaker 5: that they can double team Higgins in that regard and
- 7:46Speaker 5: then make one of those other guys beat him.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Yeah, they got a titan. Drew sample.
- 7:52Speaker 5: No, but not, He's not gonna like kill you, right.
- 7:57Speaker 5: You know, if Duggar and Pepper's is supposed to be
- 8:02Speaker 5: the strength of your defense, you can't allow tight ends
- 8:05Speaker 5: to kill you, you know.
- 8:07Speaker 2: What I mean?
- 8:08Speaker 5: Like I know that, then neither one of those guys
- 8:10Speaker 5: is necessarily known for the coverage. They're more physical in
- 8:14Speaker 5: the box kind of guy, but they should be able
- 8:16Speaker 5: to handle pedestrian tight ends. I'm not asking them to
- 8:18Speaker 5: take Mark Andrews out of the game or Travis Kelcey
- 8:21Speaker 5: out of the game stuff like that.
- 8:24Speaker 2: So listen. I know that the Bengals have aspirations for
- 8:29Speaker 2: the playoffs and beyond, but I think given its Week one,
- 8:34Speaker 2: given Chase might not play. I give the Patriots a
- 8:38Speaker 2: punchers a puncher's chance.
- 8:39Speaker 5: I think everybody has a puncher's chance in Week one.
- 8:41Speaker 5: I just think there's so and Bill used to talk
- 8:43Speaker 5: about this all the time. There's so much uncertainty heading
- 8:46Speaker 5: into that game because no matter how many times you
- 8:50Speaker 5: go over things and how much you practice it and prepare,
- 8:53Speaker 5: you just don't know what's going to happen. And Bill
- 8:56Speaker 5: always says, there was a game and I don't know
- 8:59Speaker 5: if you remember this, I want to say it was
- 9:01Speaker 5: five oh six somewhere in that area. They opened up
- 9:04Speaker 5: at home right here with Buffalo. You know, on the
- 9:07Speaker 5: first play of the game, Brady got stripsacked by t
- 9:10Speaker 5: Keo Spikes and it was returned for a touchdown. So
- 9:13Speaker 5: like one play into the season, you just turned the
- 9:15Speaker 5: ball over for a touchdown? Like who had that? Who
- 9:18Speaker 5: was prepared for that? And Bill always, you know, talked
- 9:20Speaker 5: about that game. It's a game that they ended up
- 9:22Speaker 5: winning nineteen to seventeen on a late safety. Yeah, Ty Warren,
- 9:30Speaker 5: but you know, Bill will talk about that kind of
- 9:32Speaker 5: stuff like, no matter how much you prepare for it,
- 9:35Speaker 5: you just don't know how the game's gonna unfold. And
- 9:37Speaker 5: I think in week one, week one, that's why Week
- 9:40Speaker 5: one survivor pools are always blood bats.
- 9:43Speaker 2: I think for picking games, week one, week two, and
- 9:46Speaker 2: week seventeen are your toughest. Weeks seventeen is because week two,
- 9:50Speaker 2: you don't know what you saw in week one is
- 9:52Speaker 2: real or not.
- 9:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree, Yeah, I agree with you.
- 9:55Speaker 2: So we'll get to those picks tomorrow.
- 9:58Speaker 5: I've got to cop out some extra time for that.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Yeah. Do we have a sponsor for the picks yet?
- 10:02Speaker 5: What are you hearing I hear nothing.
- 10:06Speaker 2: I hear nothing.
- 10:07Speaker 5: You know what a shame is to this?
- 10:09Speaker 2: Really we need a pick sponsor.
- 10:10Speaker 5: There's not really a lot of you know, sort of
- 10:12Speaker 5: you know, gambling related websites around anymore, so it's it's probably.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Hard to come up with more sports gambling sites. Yeah,
- 10:20Speaker 2: and maybe like ex coaches could get jobs on them,
- 10:22Speaker 2: who knows.
- 10:24Speaker 5: You know, like DraftKings sponsor of our postgame show.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Huh?
- 10:27Speaker 5: I said, like DraftKings sponsor of our postgame show.
- 10:30Speaker 2: There you go. Yes. Do we talk about Bill Belichick
- 10:35Speaker 2: and Matt Patricia talking about the Patriots yesterday?
- 10:37Speaker 5: I think we talked about that, But now I guess
- 10:39Speaker 5: he has another gig. Now the thirty third team?
- 10:41Speaker 2: What's that?
- 10:42Speaker 5: It's the website, it's some network they're trying to put together.
- 10:47Speaker 5: And who's then, I don't know. I don't know who's
- 10:49Speaker 5: in charge of it. Thirty thirteen, the thirty third team.
- 10:53Speaker 5: Oh you never get any of those those emails?
- 10:55Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 10:55Speaker 5: I get those emails all the time.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Yeah, NFL thirty three, No, the thirty third team, I
- 11:00Speaker 2: don't get those.
- 11:01Speaker 5: Okay, I'll show them to you off Maybe it's an
- 11:03Speaker 5: off air.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Must be on a different newsletter, it could be.
- 11:06Speaker 5: Yeah, that's kind of how it comes as a newsletter. Yeah,
- 11:10Speaker 5: and I think he they announced yesterday that he was
- 11:14Speaker 5: part of that too, so he's you know, I don't wonder,
- 11:18Speaker 5: And I mean, I know, you know, we want to
- 11:20Speaker 5: talk about the Patriots and the Bengals and everything. Well,
- 11:22Speaker 5: you know we will. But with all of these different
- 11:28Speaker 5: gigs that he's doing, I think a lot of people
- 11:29Speaker 5: feel like he's trying to put himself in the public light,
- 11:32Speaker 5: show a different side of himself, and you know, to
- 11:35Speaker 5: make himself more attractive. Yeah, I'm starting to wonder if
- 11:39Speaker 5: it really has nothing to do with that and more
- 11:41Speaker 5: to do with I'm pretty content I'm just going to
- 11:43Speaker 5: do this kind of stuff for a couple of years.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Or this year, I'm going to do a bunch of
- 11:48Speaker 2: stuff like and then settle into those one or two things. Yeah.
- 11:53Speaker 5: Like, because if you look at the things he's doing, like,
- 11:56Speaker 5: I'm not really surprised that he wasn't willing to jump
- 11:59Speaker 5: into say, because I'm sure that he had offers for
- 12:02Speaker 5: like ESPN or Fox.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Well, he had no interest in that because it wasn't
- 12:07Speaker 2: the format that he enjoyed.
- 12:08Speaker 5: Exactly and I'm not really surprised by that, because he
- 12:11Speaker 5: wants this to get in delve into a you know,
- 12:13Speaker 5: a x's and o's thing on the on the board.
- 12:16Speaker 5: He wants to put Drake May up on the board
- 12:17Speaker 5: and break down his game. He can't do that in
- 12:20Speaker 5: like ten second bites in between everybody else on a
- 12:23Speaker 5: panel of six on you know, on say like Fox
- 12:26Speaker 5: or ESPN pregame. So I just wonder if maybe he's
- 12:30Speaker 5: not necessarily looking at the next job, and he's just
- 12:33Speaker 5: kind of trying, as you said, trying to figure out
- 12:35Speaker 5: which in these formats he likes best find his lane
- 12:38Speaker 5: and stay in it.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Yeah, good for him. He's busy, that's for sure.
- 12:42Speaker 5: I think he's got like five or six different gigs.
- 12:45Speaker 2: So, all right, that's that's Bill. But he was talking
- 12:48Speaker 2: about the Patriots yesterday and and made up He and
- 12:53Speaker 2: Patricia made a point to name all the players that
- 12:56Speaker 2: the Patriots had re signed with the inference said, you know,
- 13:00Speaker 2: these are guys that we brought to the team, and
- 13:04Speaker 2: it's nice that they liked them and decided to resign them.
- 13:08Speaker 5: He's nothing if not petty. Oh, it's one of the
- 13:11Speaker 5: things I really like about him. Because he keeps a list.
- 13:14Speaker 2: It's like he's like me and you, Michael Jordan's he
- 13:17Speaker 2: keeps lists. I'm probably on it, but.
- 13:20Speaker 5: Oh well, I don't think there's much doubt that that
- 13:23Speaker 5: you and I are on it. But I do kind
- 13:25Speaker 5: of appreciate the fact that he's human just like us,
- 13:28Speaker 5: you know, and he remembers when people doubt and mock
- 13:31Speaker 5: and whatnot.
- 13:33Speaker 2: All right, So so back to this game. I think
- 13:36Speaker 2: that Christian Gonzalez is the key for the Patriots defense,
- 13:39Speaker 2: you right, and you know, for the offense. It's easy
- 13:42Speaker 2: to just say Jacoby Brissett, but he's gonna need help.
- 13:47Speaker 5: So reminder Stevenson, we think, yeah, yeah, he did it again,
- 13:52Speaker 5: like Mayo did it again, you know, a half hour ago.
- 13:55Speaker 5: You know, he's talking about the importance of running the
- 13:58Speaker 5: ball and how that's what they're going to have to
- 14:00Speaker 5: rely on. And he's talking about the you know, the
- 14:03Speaker 5: variations of the first down runs. You know, he's telling
- 14:06Speaker 5: you they're going to run the ball on first down two.
- 14:08Speaker 5: And I think that the key would be to get
- 14:11Speaker 5: away from that a little bit, to try to take
- 14:13Speaker 5: the burden off of Jacoby Brissett by throwing the ball
- 14:18Speaker 5: you saying throwing the ball take the burden off the quarterback. Yes,
- 14:22Speaker 5: make it easy, more advantageous for him to have success
- 14:26Speaker 5: with short, easy throws on early downs where maybe you're
- 14:29Speaker 5: playing base defense instead of Hendrickson and Hubbard pinning their
- 14:32Speaker 5: rears back.
- 14:33Speaker 2: To come to question, is is anything easy in this offense?
- 14:36Speaker 2: I mean we let's let's be honest. We saw even
- 14:39Speaker 2: in practice during the preseason sometimes seven on sevens when
- 14:44Speaker 2: no one's tackling and no one's hitting the quarterback, where
- 14:47Speaker 2: it just didn't look right even on these short passes.
- 14:50Speaker 2: You know, So now it's for real. Now these guys
- 14:54Speaker 2: are going to be coming full steamy. No one knows what.
- 15:00Speaker 5: Look at the three preseason games, they didn't have a
- 15:03Speaker 5: single stretch of really strong offensive movements at all. Like
- 15:07Speaker 5: can you like now, I don't really care as much
- 15:10Speaker 5: about the preseason as as much, but it's hard to
- 15:13Speaker 5: ignore it right now with this team because of the
- 15:17Speaker 5: last two years.
- 15:18Speaker 2: The style of offense that they're telling us they're going
- 15:20Speaker 2: to run requires ten twelve play drives to get into
- 15:25Speaker 2: the red zone. You can't you can't count on them
- 15:29Speaker 2: breaking one off.
- 15:30Speaker 5: And that's okay, but what has been the problem with
- 15:34Speaker 5: that mistakes, Yeah, and that.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Way, you know, if we're being objective, that's a hard
- 15:41Speaker 2: way to live for this team because of the penalties
- 15:44Speaker 2: that we've seen them make and you know, just sustaining
- 15:48Speaker 2: and executing for twelve plays. Who knows, maybe they can
- 15:54Speaker 2: do it. I mean, maybe maybe this game will start
- 15:57Speaker 2: and it'll be a whole different Patriots team than we've
- 15:59Speaker 2: seen from from training camp. That would be so again,
- 16:04Speaker 2: I shirt off. My shirt would be like.
- 16:07Speaker 5: I have to admit, like the way training camp started
- 16:10Speaker 5: with all the pre snat penalties and then how much
- 16:13Speaker 5: attention it got, like the players were talking about it,
- 16:16Speaker 5: the coaches were talking about it. I kind of assumed,
- 16:20Speaker 5: after you know, a day or two, this is going
- 16:23Speaker 5: this is gonna be a point of embassy. This is
- 16:25Speaker 5: going to get cleaned up. It never got cleaned up
- 16:28Speaker 5: right down to the last preseason and.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Now we haven't seen the last two weeks of practice.
- 16:32Speaker 2: But you know, I don't know how much you can
- 16:35Speaker 2: rectify in two weeks. But again, it's it's all a mystery.
- 16:40Speaker 2: We don't know what this offense is going to look like.
- 16:44Speaker 2: We can make guesses from what we've seen, but nobody
- 16:47Speaker 2: knows for sure. Nobody really knows for sure what the
- 16:50Speaker 2: defense is.
- 16:50Speaker 8: Going to be.
- 16:51Speaker 5: And I do think there's a chance that Van Pelt
- 16:54Speaker 5: does have that familiarity with Cincinnati's defense and maybe he
- 16:58Speaker 5: can come out early. It's some things that he thinks
- 17:01Speaker 5: will be successful against that defense, and there's a little
- 17:05Speaker 5: bit of an advantage there for him because he's going
- 17:09Speaker 5: against similar personnel that he's gone against with different personnel.
- 17:13Speaker 5: So Cincinnati doesn't have the same book on Van Pelt
- 17:16Speaker 5: that Van Pelt has on in Rumo.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Well, it's always the chess game, you know, he knows
- 17:20Speaker 2: what we know that he knows, you know. So, but
- 17:24Speaker 2: Evan had some good stats. I think the Bengals are
- 17:27Speaker 2: like one in three to start a season.
- 17:30Speaker 5: Again, I don't really understand what that has to do
- 17:31Speaker 5: with this week. It really doesn't do. I mean, but
- 17:34Speaker 5: it's like the Patriots haven't covered in an opening day
- 17:36Speaker 5: and forever, like but people love None of those guys
- 17:39Speaker 5: are here, I know, So who do you bet that?
- 17:41Speaker 5: Because both have terrible trends, I know, do you know
- 17:44Speaker 5: what I mean? Like, I think if you're looking at
- 17:46Speaker 5: numbers and we'll get a lot more into this tomorrow.
- 17:49Speaker 5: I think you'll open at nine and a half, and
- 17:50Speaker 5: I've seen it as low as seven and a half.
- 17:52Speaker 5: So people are putting money on the Patriots.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Yep.
- 17:55Speaker 8: You know.
- 17:55Speaker 5: I don't know if they think they're going to cover
- 17:57Speaker 5: to win outright or just cover, but it does seem
- 18:00Speaker 5: like my initial reaction, that's a pretty high number on
- 18:03Speaker 5: opening day. Yeah, especially with the whole Chase situation. If
- 18:07Speaker 5: Chase were playing, like.
- 18:08Speaker 9: If Chase were playing what's bringing it down?
- 18:11Speaker 5: If Chase was playing all of camp, I think I
- 18:13Speaker 5: would say I think I made this comment yesterday, you said,
- 18:16Speaker 5: I'm trying to set myself up. I just think they
- 18:18Speaker 5: would have a hard time keeping up. Yeah, you know,
- 18:21Speaker 5: I think they'd be knocking on the door of thirty
- 18:23Speaker 5: if they had Chase and Higgins full bore ready to go.
- 18:27Speaker 5: I don't I don't think they'll they'll be like that. Yeah,
- 18:30Speaker 5: I don't think they'll be like that unless the Patriots
- 18:32Speaker 5: offense gives Cincinnati a little help.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Watching the US Open a little d see Roger Goodell.
- 18:42Speaker 5: Asmad Doog would say, ye, Goodell.
- 18:45Speaker 2: He was in a suite chatting it up with all
- 18:48Speaker 2: the muckety MUCKs at the US open.
- 18:50Speaker 5: So I made an observation last night, and Beth laughed
- 18:52Speaker 5: out loud. Did you see when they were showing Federer
- 18:55Speaker 5: during the tiaffle Man And I might not this might
- 18:58Speaker 5: not be original, but Federal just looks to me like
- 19:01Speaker 5: a Bond villain. Yeah, is that people think that of him?
- 19:05Speaker 8: Oh?
- 19:05Speaker 5: Yeah, so I'm not the only okay, oh yeah, just
- 19:09Speaker 5: he looks like a Bond Villain's just started cracking up.
- 19:11Speaker 2: There's a million of pictures of him on the internet
- 19:13Speaker 2: in a tuxed Okay, you know, because you have after Wimbledon,
- 19:18Speaker 2: you have to dress up. They have the and you're
- 19:20Speaker 2: dressed in a tuxedo. So there's all kinds of pictures
- 19:23Speaker 2: of him in tuxedos and stuff. Yeah, he's got that
- 19:26Speaker 2: international continental look, you know, cosmopolitan cosmopolitan look. Yeah.
- 19:34Speaker 5: Yeah, So what do we think we got two Americans
- 19:37Speaker 5: in a semi love you're going to have one in
- 19:39Speaker 5: the final, no matter what. Would you rather have them
- 19:42Speaker 5: not facing each other in the semis? So there was
- 19:45Speaker 5: a chance that they could both win? No, No, you
- 19:48Speaker 5: like the guarantee?
- 19:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the odds are that.
- 19:50Speaker 5: Well, Center would probably the other one.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that's one I like to I like the guarantee
- 19:55Speaker 2: of an American. There hasn't been an American in the
- 19:58Speaker 2: Open finals for like, I think twenty years. I think
- 20:01Speaker 2: it's oh six, something like that. Yeah, Andy Roddick, Yeah,
- 20:04Speaker 2: something like that. So anyway, talking tennis here.
- 20:06Speaker 5: Well that's because Fred has his tennis attire.
- 20:08Speaker 2: I have my FeelA shirt on. Yes, I promised it yesterday.
- 20:11Speaker 5: And he delivered.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:14Speaker 5: Made me laugh out loud when I watched in the studio.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Old school Borg shirt.
- 20:18Speaker 5: Yes, absolutely.
- 20:19Speaker 8: Ye.
- 20:20Speaker 5: You know my brother would have gotten along very well.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 20:22Speaker 5: He was a huge board guy, love board.
- 20:25Speaker 2: You know, he retired like at twenty five.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Yeah, but you know, have you watched I'm sure you have.
- 20:29Speaker 5: You've watched that, like the McEnroe Borg documentary that, Like
- 20:32Speaker 5: I always thought they just kind of like he just
- 20:36Speaker 5: didn't want to play anymore. He kind of got burnt
- 20:38Speaker 5: out and didn't my life. He lost when he he left,
- 20:41Speaker 5: when he when he lost, like oh yeah, suddenly McEnroe
- 20:43Speaker 5: was better than him and he took off. He couldn't
- 20:45Speaker 5: take it. Yeah, Like I never realized that was growing up.
- 20:49Speaker 5: I always thought he just was like one of those
- 20:51Speaker 5: guys that you know what I don't really like to
- 20:53Speaker 5: do this anymore.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Well, I think that was.
- 20:54Speaker 5: Part of it, but it was because he was losing.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Well, he realized what it was going to take to
- 20:58Speaker 2: compete with, you know, in particular McEnroe, and he just said,
- 21:02Speaker 2: I can't do it anymore.
- 21:03Speaker 5: Yeah, that was a good documentary.
- 21:04Speaker 8: Though.
- 21:05Speaker 5: McEnroe is an interesting guy because he was so hated
- 21:08Speaker 5: when he played, but now everybody loves him.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Yeah, people realize like probably on all these line calls,
- 21:15Speaker 2: he was right. You know, he probably was. I don't
- 21:20Speaker 2: blame him.
- 21:20Speaker 5: Well, plus like tough upbringing, like his father was tough
- 21:23Speaker 5: on him. You ever read that book, you read the
- 21:24Speaker 5: mc and roe biography.
- 21:26Speaker 2: I didn't read the biography, but I know of his father.
- 21:30Speaker 5: Fans are gonna love this segment, little little US Open
- 21:34Speaker 5: slash Tennis history talk.
- 21:35Speaker 2: That's a right. Well, I just I brought it up
- 21:37Speaker 2: because Goodell was at the internal last night. You know.
- 21:41Speaker 2: You wonder like years ago on Labor Day weekend, CBS
- 21:49Speaker 2: would have the US Open, so they'd have the one
- 21:51Speaker 2: o'clock game, but they give.
- 21:53Speaker 5: Away they didn't have the la No four o'clock window.
- 21:56Speaker 2: And now with the promise of eighteen games, there thinking
- 22:00Speaker 2: they're going to take back Labor Day the NFL, and
- 22:03Speaker 2: you know, because they're going to need that extra week
- 22:05Speaker 2: and they might have to ask at a bye week,
- 22:08Speaker 2: so they're really going to need that extra week. I
- 22:10Speaker 2: wonder if you know good Dell is already talking to
- 22:14Speaker 2: you know, ESPN or whoever. Hey, this is how we're
- 22:18Speaker 2: going to work out that Labor Day weekend with you all.
- 22:21Speaker 5: You know, so let me ask you this. Well, you know,
- 22:24Speaker 5: the league kicks off tomorrow night. We talked a little
- 22:26Speaker 5: bit about Kansas City and Baltimore. Yesterday I put up
- 22:31Speaker 5: just you know, kind of like a over overatching like
- 22:35Speaker 5: season preview type stuff, you know, with picks and you know,
- 22:38Speaker 5: award winners.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Who do you like for MVP for the league?
- 22:43Speaker 5: Yeah? Yeah, prediction for MVP, Like That's what I put
- 22:46Speaker 5: in my notebook yesterday. I just kind of do it all.
- 22:48Speaker 5: You know. It's like everybody else you know, means nothing,
- 22:53Speaker 5: but you know, some predictions for for awards and whatnot
- 22:56Speaker 5: and division winners things like that. Fans like that stuff. Friends.
- 23:00Speaker 5: You know what, you always accuse me of not worrying
- 23:02Speaker 5: about the clickbait. That's clickbait. Everybody, everybody clicks on a
- 23:06Speaker 5: you know, a prediction.
- 23:07Speaker 2: I mean, the first thing you try to do is, all, right,
- 23:08Speaker 2: who do you think is going to be the best
- 23:10Speaker 2: team and who's going to be the most valuable player
- 23:12Speaker 2: on that team?
- 23:13Speaker 5: So I have my most boring pick ever, like Patrick Mahomes. Yeah, yeah,
- 23:19Speaker 5: So I just felt like, you know, I can try
- 23:23Speaker 5: to go outside the box, but I just feel like
- 23:26Speaker 5: he's like the best player on the best team. And
- 23:29Speaker 5: what he did last year to me was so Brady
- 23:33Speaker 5: esque of just dragging a team that really wasn't all
- 23:36Speaker 5: that great note offensively anyway, the defense was pretty good.
- 23:40Speaker 5: But I feel like, if you know that was a chance,
- 23:44Speaker 5: you got to get them when they're down, you got
- 23:46Speaker 5: to get him.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Yeah. I think I'm hoping and I'm predicting that Kansas
- 23:51Speaker 2: City has a drop off. There could be going for
- 23:54Speaker 2: three in a row. The odds against that you pick
- 23:57Speaker 2: the field something.
- 23:59Speaker 5: Like that, I would pick against them.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Yeah, So that's why you know I won't go with
- 24:04Speaker 2: the obvious pick there. Also, sometimes with these things, you
- 24:10Speaker 2: look for the emerging team. Who's the team that you know,
- 24:13Speaker 2: maybe it's Detroit that goes all the way.
- 24:16Speaker 5: And I have Detroit in the super Bowl. But yeah,
- 24:19Speaker 5: I mean they were in the conference championship last year.
- 24:21Speaker 5: It's not But if that's.
- 24:22Speaker 2: The case, does Jared Goff get the nod for m
- 24:24Speaker 2: v P?
- 24:25Speaker 5: You know, yeah, I didn't. I didn't give him much consideration,
- 24:29Speaker 5: but I did hear something this morning that bodes well
- 24:32Speaker 5: for Detroit. They have an absurd amount of indoor games Detroit,
- 24:36Speaker 5: and that's that's the key for golf. Yeah, he's a
- 24:38Speaker 5: different guy outside, especially if the weather's bad. Yeah, so
- 24:42Speaker 5: that that could that could bode well for him. I
- 24:44Speaker 5: mean if the Bengals, I had Joe Borrow last year
- 24:48Speaker 5: and then he ends up he came out of camp
- 24:50Speaker 5: hurt and then he got hurt again, right, so it
- 24:53Speaker 5: never you know, even had a chance. He had his
- 24:55Speaker 5: worst season. So that was a bad pick.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Who you know, like if the forty nine ers finally
- 25:00Speaker 2: get over the hump, well, not that you haven't got
- 25:02Speaker 2: to the super Bowl. But McCaffrey, yeah, he he, you know,
- 25:05Speaker 2: he's an obvious choice.
- 25:06Speaker 5: I picked Tyreek Hill for Offensive Player of the Year
- 25:08Speaker 5: because McCaffrey's wonted like he wanted to hard to repeat
- 25:12Speaker 5: those words. I think people they like to change.
- 25:15Speaker 2: It up you got ceedee lamb.
- 25:18Speaker 5: You know, yeah, he was in the hunt.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:21Speaker 10: Oh.
- 25:21Speaker 2: By the way, Patrick's certain agreed to a big deal today.
- 25:25Speaker 5: Yeah yeah.
- 25:26Speaker 2: So deals are still being made right up to the deadline.
- 25:30Speaker 2: So I guess there's hope for Chase.
- 25:33Speaker 5: Oh yeah. I mean there's no like he wasn't holding
- 25:36Speaker 5: out though, was he.
- 25:37Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know. It was just an extension.
- 25:39Speaker 5: I think, yeah, this is weird, so something I thought
- 25:43Speaker 5: that that might spur some action. I don't know if
- 25:45Speaker 5: you heard did you see any of the Trent Williams stuff.
- 25:48Speaker 5: Trent Williams we talked about yesterday. He signed and he
- 25:50Speaker 5: got a big deal finally, you know, he came in,
- 25:52Speaker 5: he got his he got some guaranteed money. It was
- 25:56Speaker 5: pretty team friendly after all that. But he he had
- 25:58Speaker 5: some interesting comments. You know, we didn't mention, you know,
- 26:01Speaker 5: the situation with Ricky pearsall, their rookie wide receiver who
- 26:05Speaker 5: got shot over the weekend and you know, ultimately got
- 26:08Speaker 5: placed on NFI so he's going to miss at least
- 26:10Speaker 5: four games. But Trent Williams said that affected him and
- 26:13Speaker 5: he was like, what am I holding out for when
- 26:17Speaker 5: these kinds of things are going on, and he said
- 26:19Speaker 5: he thought it was important to get back and try
- 26:22Speaker 5: to help the supportive of Pearsall. And you know, I
- 26:26Speaker 5: understand that it's still about money. He still got a
- 26:28Speaker 5: lot of money. I'm not trying to make Trent Williams
- 26:31Speaker 5: out to be Mother Teresa here, But I just wonder
- 26:34Speaker 5: if maybe a guy like Chase takes a step back.
- 26:37Speaker 5: Maybe he heard that, maybe he didn't, and maybe he
- 26:39Speaker 5: looks at it and say, yeah, you know what, there
- 26:41Speaker 5: are more important things to worry about. Because with Chase
- 26:44Speaker 5: and I love Jamar Chase. I think he's a tremendous player.
- 26:48Speaker 5: But Ceedee Lamb got his big deal, justin Jefferson got
- 26:51Speaker 5: his big deal, and there have been other guys. They
- 26:55Speaker 5: get him. They get them now they're four years they
- 26:58Speaker 5: were getting ready to play on their fifth the eruption.
- 27:01Speaker 5: Chase is a year early. He's only played three years
- 27:03Speaker 5: in his fourth year. Yes, so thank goodness we have
- 27:07Speaker 5: Mike orsoa save us from our tennis.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Talk makes it a little bit more complimentd.
- 27:11Speaker 5: So I just wonder, and like I thought that, Mike,
- 27:14Speaker 5: did you see the Trent Williams stuff with him talking
- 27:16Speaker 5: about the impact that the Ricky parasol shooting had He's like,
- 27:22Speaker 5: you know, I took a step back, and I don't know,
- 27:23Speaker 5: like what am I doing? You know, there's more important
- 27:26Speaker 5: things than really contract. And again he got he got money,
- 27:30Speaker 5: So I'm not trying to say he came back for
- 27:32Speaker 5: nothing because of his fallen teammate. But I just wondered
- 27:36Speaker 5: if may like a guy like like Jamar Chase, you know,
- 27:40Speaker 5: looks at that and says, yeah, I am a year early,
- 27:43Speaker 5: and you know what if something like this happens or
- 27:46Speaker 5: the other way around, like, you know, I need the
- 27:48Speaker 5: money now because you never know, you know, how it unfolds.
- 27:52Speaker 4: You didn't see that, No, I did not see that.
- 27:54Speaker 4: I was I was just in the locker room, I know.
- 27:56Speaker 2: And so what's the spread und go ahead.
- 28:02Speaker 5: Mood?
- 28:03Speaker 4: Oh, the mood was a little serious. I would say
- 28:06Speaker 4: no music, but maybe no business of practice.
- 28:10Speaker 6: So we talked to to Juwan Bentley and Jonathan Jones,
- 28:13Speaker 6: two veteran leaders of the Defense, and Bentley is always
- 28:16Speaker 6: pretty serious, but uh, you know, it's just you kind
- 28:19Speaker 6: of see like my guy Pepper's that you know. There
- 28:21Speaker 6: wasn't a lot of joking around, at least on the
- 28:22Speaker 6: defensive side of all. Wasn't you know, overwhelming serious. But
- 28:25Speaker 6: I just thought those couple of guys that spoke seemed uh,
- 28:27Speaker 6: you know, pretty locked in, sounding like they're preparing for Chase.
- 28:30Speaker 6: As Mao said earlier, like he's gonna play. That's what
- 28:33Speaker 6: Jonathan Jones said, you know, just saying what a good
- 28:36Speaker 6: player he is. So yeah, you know, a little bit
- 28:38Speaker 6: of a mood. It's a little bit of a different
- 28:39Speaker 6: set up here going to the locker room before you
- 28:41Speaker 6: guys are okay, you guys, it was like the old
- 28:43Speaker 6: old days.
- 28:43Speaker 5: Well that's sweet. So we went back to our roots
- 28:45Speaker 5: and we carried the show the way we do every
- 28:47Speaker 5: other day. But you know, this was only.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Two of us today.
- 28:50Speaker 6: Well we'll get having a practices at one, so I
- 28:52Speaker 6: think he'll he'll go out there and yeah, we'll see
- 28:54Speaker 6: what the get an injury report today and and.
- 28:56Speaker 5: A lot of stuff. It's happening. It's happening, Mike, It's happened.
- 29:00Speaker 2: It's all who was the major scrum today?
- 29:03Speaker 6: Bentley was the first one, and Jones and otherwise it's, uh,
- 29:07Speaker 6: you know, it's not so much scrums.
- 29:08Speaker 4: It's kind of going back to how it was My
- 29:10Speaker 4: first year.
- 29:11Speaker 6: Where reporters are kind of floating around and you know,
- 29:14Speaker 6: talking to guys, and guys seem pretty willing to tell.
- 29:17Speaker 2: I think at least I be. You know, I've been
- 29:19Speaker 2: into the locker room this year a few times, and
- 29:22Speaker 2: it seems like there's more players available. Yeah, like in
- 29:25Speaker 2: the past, there'd be like two or three players there,
- 29:28Speaker 2: I mean, everybody there. They'd leave and then maybe one
- 29:30Speaker 2: of them would come in.
- 29:31Speaker 5: I think this is more like the timing is more
- 29:34Speaker 5: like the old days. I agree with you, Fred. I
- 29:36Speaker 5: also thought, and I don't know how you guys feel
- 29:38Speaker 5: about this, what was it like today with the media,
- 29:41Speaker 5: like the huge because I've noticed this was the first
- 29:46Speaker 5: day that locker room was opened that I didn't go in.
- 29:49Speaker 5: I feel like there's been fewer, fewer media people here. Now.
- 29:55Speaker 5: Today's Wednesday. That's always the huge day. All the TV,
- 29:58Speaker 5: all the TV usually.
- 30:01Speaker 4: That is true.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Believe me, you don't think I think some of these
- 30:04Speaker 2: guys this is like they're only little supplement in the
- 30:08Speaker 2: media right in the media, I think some of them,
- 30:11Speaker 2: you know.
- 30:12Speaker 5: But yeah, Wednesday's always the biggest day by far from media.
- 30:15Speaker 5: There's all the TV cameras here and they get all
- 30:19Speaker 5: their stuff for the week and they sort of cycle
- 30:21Speaker 5: through it. But I just anecdotally. I definitely the other
- 30:25Speaker 5: day it was not a very big media group.
- 30:28Speaker 4: Now it was big today. Andy Hart was there. I
- 30:30Speaker 4: guess he's.
- 30:32Speaker 5: A little bit and he says that he's I.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Can see him. I'm gonna be I'm going to be
- 30:36Speaker 2: in the locker room.
- 30:37Speaker 5: No, he says.
- 30:38Speaker 11: No.
- 30:39Speaker 5: He says he's going to try to make it. H
- 30:41Speaker 5: make an effort to get in the locker room once
- 30:44Speaker 5: once a week. And what about the other song? As
- 30:47Speaker 5: long as he can get back and forth. Well, I
- 30:49Speaker 5: think he'll probably do a little a little of that
- 30:53Speaker 5: as well. I don't know, like if he'll do it
- 30:55Speaker 5: every week, and he already said he goes, I'll probably
- 30:57Speaker 5: get sick of that because it just makes it for
- 31:00Speaker 5: a really long day.
- 31:01Speaker 6: He's got to drive to Dartmouth to wherever we yeah is,
- 31:04Speaker 6: back to here, back to ee.
- 31:06Speaker 5: Well he'll drive from from Dartmouth to here.
- 31:09Speaker 2: To so EI doesn't provide him a car service.
- 31:12Speaker 5: Yeah, you can't. Do You think they should.
- 31:14Speaker 4: Drive afternoon show? They should?
- 31:15Speaker 2: I should have a driver. Yeah, he'll probably need a
- 31:18Speaker 2: bodyguard eventually.
- 31:20Speaker 4: Now it's Uh, I would just say that, Paul. Really,
- 31:22Speaker 4: it's definitely.
- 31:22Speaker 6: More access to these guys in the locker room as
- 31:25Speaker 6: it's set up, but I you.
- 31:26Speaker 5: Know, timing is just so much.
- 31:27Speaker 4: Oh, it's much better being able to write.
- 31:29Speaker 6: It's also just I think it's good for the players
- 31:31Speaker 6: because they're just kind of getting ready for practice.
- 31:33Speaker 4: So it's you know, there's when it used to be
- 31:35Speaker 4: in the afternoon, everybody would kind of leave and.
- 31:37Speaker 5: You're all looking to get home. Yeah, So just think
- 31:39Speaker 5: about that from a logistical standpoint. If you're a player,
- 31:43Speaker 5: you got them in a locker room to get dressed
- 31:47Speaker 5: to go out to practice, as opposed to I'm getting
- 31:50Speaker 5: undressed to go home. Yeah. Right, what do you think
- 31:53Speaker 5: is going to cause a player to linger in the
- 31:55Speaker 5: locker room a little bit longer?
- 31:57Speaker 4: Definitely not the media.
- 31:58Speaker 5: And definitely not the urgency to get out to practice.
- 32:01Speaker 6: Right. It is funny though, you see some of the
- 32:03Speaker 6: guys different, like how they get ready for practice, Like
- 32:05Speaker 6: some guys are showering, other you know to.
- 32:08Speaker 5: Bentley about that because you and I have sort of been.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Who showers before practice?
- 32:12Speaker 4: I know a few guys do actually, but.
- 32:14Speaker 5: You and I were talking about Bentley just seems to
- 32:16Speaker 5: like comes in and it's like you look at the
- 32:18Speaker 5: clock and like, don't they have practice in like ten minutes?
- 32:20Speaker 5: And he's just like changing. Is like Clark Kenton.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Where the quarterback? Would you insist your center shower before practice?
- 32:28Speaker 6: Yeah, especially with the loofa, you know, clean things out
- 32:31Speaker 6: down there on the top of my hands.
- 32:32Speaker 5: Brady did.
- 32:33Speaker 2: So you were at your rod, I wasn't rug and
- 32:36Speaker 2: you heard him talking about the offensive line, how they're
- 32:39Speaker 2: still working through it. It could look similar to what
- 32:42Speaker 2: we saw in the Commanders and we were trying to
- 32:45Speaker 2: figure out is that before so get hurt or after.
- 32:48Speaker 5: You know what I mean, the group that started or
- 32:51Speaker 5: the group that basically had to play with the ones. Yeah,
- 32:54Speaker 5: I mean I wonder what that meant.
- 32:56Speaker 4: I think I think Low to me is just the
- 32:58Speaker 4: big piece. I mean, and that's been out there, right,
- 33:01Speaker 4: I mean he was he was out there.
- 33:03Speaker 6: So wasn't out there on Monday last press, but Low
- 33:06Speaker 6: was watching. And I don't know how you would turn
- 33:09Speaker 6: that limited participation.
- 33:11Speaker 4: I guess.
- 33:11Speaker 5: My guess is they're both going to be well, there
- 33:16Speaker 5: might be out there might be d n P today.
- 33:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean that's interesting, but it sounds like regardless,
- 33:21Speaker 6: they're gonna they're gonna rotate some guys.
- 33:23Speaker 4: And I mean they, you know, brought in the monstrous tackle.
- 33:26Speaker 5: How do you put it? The other day, like it
- 33:28Speaker 5: would be naive to think you're going to get the
- 33:31Speaker 5: play and all these guys are going to play the
- 33:33Speaker 5: whole game. Yeah, up front, And Bill used to do
- 33:36Speaker 5: that too.
- 33:37Speaker 8: You know.
- 33:37Speaker 5: Bill often rotated lineman on the early weeks, and you know,
- 33:43Speaker 5: and then you kind of settle into your five.
- 33:45Speaker 4: The other giant offensive lineman, I apologized, I don't have
- 33:48Speaker 4: his name in front of me. Sixty walks through the
- 33:50Speaker 4: locker room.
- 33:51Speaker 2: It's a little guy the Vibes signed.
- 33:54Speaker 4: Yeah, they just signed him up.
- 33:55Speaker 6: And then they previously signed another offensive tackle with similar size.
- 33:59Speaker 4: So I don't know if that's something than that they
- 34:00Speaker 4: like or if that's just what was available.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Didn't they sign uh Farley what's his name? They had
- 34:08Speaker 2: him at it for a workout.
- 34:09Speaker 5: I like that workout, by the way. I like the
- 34:11Speaker 5: idea of that. That's a Belichick like total inquiry. You know,
- 34:15Speaker 5: first round pick, there's talent there hasn't worked out. Doesn't
- 34:18Speaker 5: matter to us why it hasn't worked out. Let's see
- 34:20Speaker 5: if there's talent.
- 34:21Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean how many times have we talked about
- 34:23Speaker 6: cornerback depth on the show, you know, And that's something
- 34:25Speaker 6: I think that maybe if that guy you take a
- 34:27Speaker 6: flyer on him, is he better than.
- 34:28Speaker 2: Marko Wilson, highly touted coming it's your first round pick. Yeah,
- 34:32Speaker 2: I know, it's a.
- 34:33Speaker 4: Real back injury, like serious back injury. Though I think we're.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Probably we've dealt with guys with back injuries before it
- 34:38Speaker 2: worked out for Gronk.
- 34:40Speaker 5: Mike.
- 34:40Speaker 4: Maybe you've heard of Kronka.
- 34:41Speaker 2: I'm not a fan, right, what else? What else did
- 34:45Speaker 2: you glean from Gerar today?
- 34:47Speaker 4: You know?
- 34:47Speaker 6: I think it was more just philosophical of like it's
- 34:50Speaker 6: really starting now, Like all the stuff we talk about
- 34:52Speaker 6: all summer, it's all fun and like, you know, but
- 34:54Speaker 6: it's another none of it really actually matters, and like
- 34:57Speaker 6: a game is truth, like this is We're going to
- 34:58Speaker 6: get truth this weekend, whatever way it goes, and then
- 35:01Speaker 6: that's gonna just start the narrator. We're almost gonna start fresh.
- 35:04Speaker 6: So in some ways, this last few days feel like,
- 35:06Speaker 6: you know, just I don't know, kind of a throwaway
- 35:09Speaker 6: period of like, all right, we know everything we've talked
- 35:11Speaker 6: about it all summer. Let's just get these guys out
- 35:13Speaker 6: there and see a game. And I don't I kind
- 35:14Speaker 6: of got that vibe of these guys. You know, they're ready.
- 35:17Speaker 4: They're they're sick of practice and going against each other.
- 35:19Speaker 4: They're ready to I.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Mean, they talked all summer about we're going to be
- 35:22Speaker 2: a running team, and he repeated it today. Yep, we're
- 35:25Speaker 2: gonna have to run the ball. And we were talking
- 35:27Speaker 2: about who are your keys on offensive defense. We both
- 35:30Speaker 2: agree Ramandre Stevens, Yeah, has to be a key on
- 35:33Speaker 2: if if they're true to the work. Yeah, you know,
- 35:36Speaker 2: maybe they're throwing us a curve ball and they're gonna,
- 35:38Speaker 2: you know, throw the ball all day. But I doubt that.
- 35:40Speaker 5: I can't imagine a first half that he doesn't get
- 35:43Speaker 5: ten carrias. Yeah, sure, you know, Like, I'm not gonna
- 35:45Speaker 5: tell you he's gonna get twenty twenty five carriers for
- 35:47Speaker 5: the game because I don't know what the score is
- 35:48Speaker 5: going to be. But I think I can almost guarantee
- 35:51Speaker 5: you he's going to see a lot of action early.
- 35:53Speaker 2: In the game.
- 35:54Speaker 6: Yeah, And I think they'll put Gibson in there a
- 35:55Speaker 6: lot too, Like I mean, I think it'll be pretty
- 35:57Speaker 6: healthy balance between them, you know, a little bit more
- 36:00Speaker 6: skewed towards Remandre. But yeah, just what's it going to
- 36:03Speaker 6: look like? I mean, I thought Tommy Curran had a
- 36:04Speaker 6: good question this morning, directly asking Girod something that we've
- 36:08Speaker 6: all talked about of you know, do you have how
- 36:10Speaker 6: different is this wide zone scheme from what you guys
- 36:13Speaker 6: have been doing the last couple of years, because that's
- 36:15Speaker 6: all we talked about in twenty twenty two was Maddy
- 36:17Speaker 6: Peas in here he's trying to put the San Francisco
- 36:18Speaker 6: offense in. They were there, you know, and we saw,
- 36:20Speaker 6: I mean, not to do comparison, but I mean remember
- 36:23Speaker 6: that practice where it was like they're they're trying it again.
- 36:26Speaker 6: I mean it was just over and over they're trying
- 36:27Speaker 6: to rep it and they never quite could get it. So,
- 36:30Speaker 6: you know, in that and as well as asking Girod,
- 36:32Speaker 6: do these guys fit that system and what you're trying
- 36:35Speaker 6: to do? So, I don't know, I thought his answer
- 36:37Speaker 6: to answer was interesting of like there's really only what
- 36:40Speaker 6: six runs I think is what he said. I was
- 36:42Speaker 6: waiting for Evan to be like, what, like that's not true?
- 36:46Speaker 5: You know, Fred read that quote to me and I
- 36:48Speaker 5: was like, he's like, you know the gap this, yeah,
- 36:50Speaker 5: and then trick runs, Tricky run yeah, trick. Well that
- 36:55Speaker 5: sounds like a lot, right, Like sounds like plural.
- 36:57Speaker 6: I'm like, dude, I mean duo inside, like I've acquired
- 37:01Speaker 6: a little bit of knowledge, you know, the.
- 37:03Speaker 4: Jets switch, Jets sweep. But I just I want to
- 37:07Speaker 4: see how it all.
- 37:07Speaker 6: Belly belly oh man, those are the high school playbook, right,
- 37:12Speaker 6: hated belly belly?
- 37:14Speaker 8: Oh?
- 37:14Speaker 6: Hi, Matt, So yeah, no, we're I think we're off.
- 37:18Speaker 6: It's the first Wednesday, and we'll get you Kobe this afternoon.
- 37:20Speaker 6: So I just I'm liking this new schedule and hopefully it's.
- 37:23Speaker 5: The new schedule is fantastic for all involved. But are
- 37:29Speaker 5: you at all surprised, Mike that Mayo continues to sort
- 37:33Speaker 5: of say how well they've run the ball?
- 37:35Speaker 4: Yes, summer seems like he's leaning into it for sure.
- 37:38Speaker 4: I mean, it's uh like you think they've had their moments.
- 37:40Speaker 5: I just don't think the Washington game was really the
- 37:42Speaker 5: only time that they ran the ball well. And I
- 37:44Speaker 5: think they ran the ball very well against Washington.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I and the whole talent practice I mean I can't.
- 37:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I can.
- 37:52Speaker 5: When there's a guy hitting the guy before he gets
- 37:54Speaker 5: to the line of scam, it's not a good run.
- 37:56Speaker 5: So that there wasn't you know that, And it was
- 37:57Speaker 5: an awful lot of it there.
- 37:59Speaker 6: Was, And I think think the ones that were open
- 38:02Speaker 6: kind of stood out. And I think they had a
- 38:03Speaker 6: good couple of days here and there.
- 38:04Speaker 4: I mean, I wouldn't say.
- 38:05Speaker 5: I just thought they were few and far between on
- 38:07Speaker 5: the practice field. Now against Washington, if that's what, if
- 38:10Speaker 5: they can run the ball like that.
- 38:12Speaker 2: I can't tell in practice.
- 38:14Speaker 6: It's almost like you was pretty tell yourself that because
- 38:16Speaker 6: you've been saying all summer, we have to run the
- 38:17Speaker 6: ball this off so you know, you have to hope,
- 38:20Speaker 6: I mean, because if you can't run the ball, you
- 38:22Speaker 6: feel like this whole offense.
- 38:23Speaker 5: And I would just argue, like, you know, my my
- 38:26Speaker 5: tired trope of you know, teams that run the ball.
- 38:29Speaker 5: They ran the ball really well against Washington, right average
- 38:31Speaker 5: over five yards to carry and they did it for
- 38:33Speaker 5: all four quarters, especially early in the game. How many
- 38:36Speaker 5: points they score, right, yeah? Ten? Now it's hard to
- 38:40Speaker 5: it's hard to score that way.
- 38:42Speaker 2: Well, And we were talking about if if you are
- 38:44Speaker 2: going to pound the ball, you're talking about sustained drives.
- 38:47Speaker 2: You're talking about ten to twelve play drives. And that's
- 38:50Speaker 2: tough for this team, at least from what we've seen
- 38:52Speaker 2: with the mistakes they've made. Absolutely and executing on every play.
- 38:58Speaker 2: You have to be fundamentally sound to you know, sustain
- 39:01Speaker 2: those drives. Especially maybe we'll all be surprised, maybe they'll
- 39:05Speaker 2: come out and there'll be a different team that we've
- 39:07Speaker 2: seen in these preseason games.
- 39:09Speaker 6: I think you hit on it, Fred, because that's I
- 39:10Speaker 6: think something that Paul and I talked about a lot
- 39:12Speaker 6: when we were, you know, doing the pregame shows, was
- 39:14Speaker 6: just that you have no sense of if they're able
- 39:17Speaker 6: to string those ten play twelve play drives together because
- 39:20Speaker 6: you haven't really seen a lot in practice of you
- 39:24Speaker 6: know where it's just live and I mean, and granted
- 39:26Speaker 6: I don't totally put all my stock in that, but
- 39:28Speaker 6: you just haven't really seen it. It's a lot of
- 39:30Speaker 6: new pieces. How are they going to be able to
- 39:32Speaker 6: just suddenly come up with it? This week against the Bengals,
- 39:34Speaker 6: we'll see.
- 39:35Speaker 2: All Right, Well it's not gonna be easy, but you

- 40:28Speaker 5: My doctor was happy time.
- 40:30Speaker 2: What's that?
- 40:31Speaker 5: My doctor was very happy with me?
- 40:32Speaker 8: Too?
- 40:32Speaker 2: Good for you? That's good. That's good.
- 40:34Speaker 5: Paul has nothing to do with that, you know?

- 42:41Speaker 9: for joining us man, thanks for having me.
- 42:43Speaker 12: Really appreciate it. It's great to see you. It's been a while.
- 42:46Speaker 12: I know you came back in December. I think last year.
- 42:49Speaker 12: You're here today you're going into the Bengals Ring of
- 42:53Speaker 12: Honor or Hall of Fame. It seems like you're reconnecting
- 42:57Speaker 12: with the franchises that you played with, and that's got
- 42:59Speaker 12: to make you feel great.
- 43:00Speaker 8: Yeah, it's been a it's been a long time coming.
- 43:03Speaker 8: I kind of went.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Off the.
- 43:06Speaker 8: Reservation of this Sun and same for for many years.
- 43:09Speaker 8: So just just getting back and coming back around the organizations,
- 43:15Speaker 8: it's a it's a good feeling.
- 43:17Speaker 5: So the full disclosure, we did try to get you
- 43:18Speaker 5: in December too, that's one of our one of our
- 43:21Speaker 5: few failures.
- 43:21Speaker 9: Yes, yes, you're right, Paul.
- 43:23Speaker 5: We didn't get them the first time around.
- 43:24Speaker 4: But it is great.
- 43:25Speaker 5: I would echo what Matt said, you know, we're going
- 43:28Speaker 5: to get into the two thousand and four season, but
- 43:29Speaker 5: that is a that is one that I think has
- 43:32Speaker 5: a special place in the heart of a lot of
- 43:34Speaker 5: people in this area. That that twenty and four team
- 43:37Speaker 5: was a special team and you know, I'm really looking
- 43:41Speaker 5: forward to getting some of your man.
- 43:43Speaker 8: It was. It was great to be a part of
- 43:44Speaker 8: that team.
- 43:45Speaker 6: Man.
- 43:45Speaker 8: There's so many Hall of Fame caliber players on that team.
- 43:50Speaker 8: It's it's it's crazy. That's that's one of the favorite
- 43:55Speaker 8: teams out of my whole career I played for and dude,
- 43:58Speaker 8: I had a great time. That was That was one
- 44:00Speaker 8: hell of a run.
- 44:01Speaker 2: So let's get to it.
- 44:02Speaker 12: You're at April, it's before the draft. Were there conversations
- 44:06Speaker 12: going on. Did you think that that was a possibility
- 44:09Speaker 12: or did it catch you off guard?
- 44:11Speaker 8: No, Man, to be honest, I'm at home. I'm thinking
- 44:14Speaker 8: like worst case scenario type things. So I'm thinking, like, man,
- 44:17Speaker 8: I may have to sit out a year or whatever.
- 44:22Speaker 8: I think. I think the Raiders was real serious about
- 44:25Speaker 8: bringing me in, and and that was that was my
- 44:28Speaker 8: first first option, and that's what I was thinking, like, Man,
- 44:31Speaker 8: I might be going to Oakland. So to actually get
- 44:35Speaker 8: the call from my agent was like and he told
- 44:38Speaker 8: me like this. He was just like, pack a bag,
- 44:40Speaker 8: We're going to Boston. And I said for what? You know,
- 44:45Speaker 8: I don't like for what we were going to bost for.
- 44:47Speaker 8: And he just told me, man, shut up, just pack
- 44:49Speaker 8: a back and meet me at the airport. So actually
- 44:53Speaker 8: coming down here and and meeting with Bill and Scott Pioli, Man,
- 44:57Speaker 8: we had a great conversation and and it was simple, man,
- 45:00Speaker 8: it didn't take that long. It was just like, hey,
- 45:03Speaker 8: you know, what do you think you could play for us?
- 45:06Speaker 8: I said absolutely. We shook hands and that was that
- 45:10Speaker 8: was it. And the rest is history.
- 45:13Speaker 5: So at the end in Cincinnati, you know, we we
- 45:17Speaker 5: you know, we're only watching from afar, you know, so
- 45:19Speaker 5: we're seeing the highlights where you know, we're hearing the
- 45:21Speaker 5: you know, the chatter, and we were like, well, does
- 45:23Speaker 5: this guy really want to play? But it got to
- 45:26Speaker 5: the point where it was so bad for you with
- 45:29Speaker 5: that organization that you you felt strongly enough as you
- 45:32Speaker 5: just said that, you you thought you might just sit
- 45:34Speaker 5: out rather than play for them again. It must have
- 45:37Speaker 5: been it must have felt like a rebirth to come
- 45:39Speaker 5: here and play for for the Patriots.
- 45:41Speaker 8: Oh dude, it was so refreshing, you know, just coming
- 45:45Speaker 8: from the situation I came in. We were at ends,
- 45:48Speaker 8: odds ends about just what transpired that whole year. So,
- 45:53Speaker 8: you know what, I'm coming off an injury and and
- 45:58Speaker 8: just some of the stuff that was going on during
- 45:59Speaker 8: that year, I mean just compounded the situation. So actually
- 46:04Speaker 8: to get a fresh new start and actually come to
- 46:08Speaker 8: an organization that winning is everything, I embraced that That's
- 46:13Speaker 8: what I wanted to do.
- 46:14Speaker 9: Did you have any preconceived notions?
- 46:16Speaker 12: I mean, it feels like it's almost like a get
- 46:18Speaker 12: out of jail free card for you. Maybe you'd have
- 46:20Speaker 12: accepted to go anyplace host it, Bill, Yeah.
- 46:25Speaker 9: But here you're coming to the defending super Bowl champions.
- 46:28Speaker 9: You don't know anything about the organization other than they're
- 46:30Speaker 9: the defending champs. What was your feeling coming.
- 46:32Speaker 8: In, Ah, Man, that was a lot of anxiety, to
- 46:35Speaker 8: be honest with you, because you don't know what to expect.
- 46:38Speaker 8: They already got something in place and they're rolling, and
- 46:41Speaker 8: then you got this. You got this notion of like
- 46:45Speaker 8: what they really need me for? They just want the
- 46:46Speaker 8: super Bowl, you know what I mean? So I think
- 46:50Speaker 8: some people think it's easy to be traded to a
- 46:54Speaker 8: super Bowl champion. Man, there's more pressure on you to
- 46:58Speaker 8: make your mark and to contribute to that, to that team.
- 47:02Speaker 8: So I mean I embraced that situation as well. I
- 47:06Speaker 8: just wanted to come in and, you know what, do
- 47:08Speaker 8: my part. And for the most part, man, my teammates
- 47:13Speaker 8: were great. They accepted me, The organization accepted me. Bill,
- 47:17Speaker 8: let me do my theme, man, So it kind of
- 47:19Speaker 8: worked out.
- 47:20Speaker 5: So that's interesting that you had some anxiety coming in.
- 47:23Speaker 5: Really interesting, right, So what was you know what you
- 47:26Speaker 5: said that they really accepted you. What was the moment
- 47:28Speaker 5: that you sort of felt accepted.
- 47:31Speaker 8: Well, hey, some of these players already knew right, so
- 47:35Speaker 8: that that kind of that kind of bridged the gap
- 47:37Speaker 8: of getting comfortable, meaning that.
- 47:40Speaker 12: You could play like in two thousand and one, they
- 47:43Speaker 12: had to face him, you know, the kinised.
- 47:47Speaker 8: Yeah, so I mean, just breaking the eyes and getting
- 47:50Speaker 8: to know these guys, and I mean just coming here
- 47:53Speaker 8: doing training camp and us joking around and getting familiar
- 47:58Speaker 8: with each other, we kind of, you know, everybody was
- 48:00Speaker 8: just like, oh, okay, so some of the things I
- 48:03Speaker 8: hear ain't what they are, you know what I mean.
- 48:06Speaker 8: So yeah, I mean I'm pretty sure coming in due
- 48:11Speaker 8: to the fact that how less Cincinnati, they were like,
- 48:16Speaker 8: can we trust him? Can is he gonna be able
- 48:18Speaker 8: to fit any with us? Can he does? You know,
- 48:20Speaker 8: just things like that of that nature, and just coming
- 48:23Speaker 8: in and they seeing my personality like I'm just like them,
- 48:26Speaker 8: I think kind of broke the eyes and we started
- 48:30Speaker 8: we started yelling and they let me do my thing.
- 48:32Speaker 9: So there was an acclamation period, definitely training camp, preseason maybe.
- 48:37Speaker 8: Okay, definitely, I mean, and then on top of that,
- 48:40Speaker 8: I'm pretty sure people was still thinking wondering if I
- 48:43Speaker 8: could play as well. So yeah, so it was it
- 48:46Speaker 8: was a lot of things going on, a lot of
- 48:48Speaker 8: things that have anxiety about, to be honest with you,
- 48:51Speaker 8: but just being me and my personality, nothing I couldn't handle.
- 48:55Speaker 8: And I think I came in and fit in with
- 48:57Speaker 8: the guys good.
- 48:58Speaker 5: Was it really quick training camp? I mean, obviously they
- 49:01Speaker 5: were a good team, right, but I always felt that
- 49:04Speaker 5: that old four team was the first one that was
- 49:06Speaker 5: sort of there was There was no asterisks, there was
- 49:09Speaker 5: no yeah butts, they were just dominant, and was there
- 49:13Speaker 5: a moment where you just sort of felt like, Wow,
- 49:15Speaker 5: this team can really be special.
- 49:17Speaker 8: I think. I think when we went off to that
- 49:19Speaker 8: five oh start, man, I was just like, yeah, we're
- 49:24Speaker 8: pretty damn good, you know what I mean? And I
- 49:26Speaker 8: don't only only the way we lose is if we
- 49:29Speaker 8: beat ourselves type thing. And and I kind of felt that,
- 49:32Speaker 8: you know, because we're dominant on defense and and we
- 49:36Speaker 8: got great players on offense. So I really felt overall,
- 49:42Speaker 8: only way we losing it we beat our stuff and
- 49:44Speaker 8: make mistakes. So it during that whole season, I mean,
- 49:49Speaker 8: everybody I like, I like players, holding players accountable offense
- 49:57Speaker 8: and defense. That's what we did all year man. So
- 50:00Speaker 8: it it it panned out and it kept us focus
- 50:04Speaker 8: as just coming in and you know the you know
- 50:07Speaker 8: the famous quote, just do your job, you know, and
- 50:12Speaker 8: that's what we did. And and players held everybody accountable
- 50:17Speaker 8: for just doing your job. So and if you're off,
- 50:21Speaker 8: you're not. You know, other players can sense that, you
- 50:23Speaker 8: know what I mean. And it's just the the confidence
- 50:28Speaker 8: another player will give you when you may be struggling
- 50:31Speaker 8: a little bit to go out there and perform man
- 50:34Speaker 8: means everything. That's a that signs up a good team.
- 50:37Speaker 10: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, oh no,
- 50:41Speaker 10: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 50:45Speaker 10: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 50:49Speaker 10: now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 50:53Speaker 5: And now great moments in.
- 50:58Speaker 6: History pause, you know, calling out numbers and I was like, yeah,
- 51:00Speaker 6: I just I just don't see twelve out there yet,
- 51:02Speaker 6: like making the joke and.
- 51:03Speaker 5: Oh yeah, and I go, we have I go, they
- 51:05Speaker 5: gave twelve.
- 51:06Speaker 4: Weve who's twelve?
- 51:06Speaker 3: Like that's how little did you see twelve of them?
- 51:09Speaker 4: I'm like, I said it like four times.
- 51:12Speaker 5: I literally said it four times, and I was like,
- 51:14Speaker 5: they didn't go out twelve.
- 51:15Speaker 6: And then you like the look on your faces, like,
- 51:17Speaker 6: oh you playing me like that guy like Fred, I
- 51:21Speaker 6: don't like you got eighty seven either.
- 51:23Speaker 3: Just for the record, Yeah, I don't know that was, But.
- 51:25Speaker 5: Is there ever going to be a time where you
- 51:26Speaker 5: were allowed to do that? Like twelve? I get. Yeah,
- 51:30Speaker 5: Well I'm sorry, I'm over it. I mean, I love Devin. Yeah,
- 51:34Speaker 5: at least I didn't even play last year.
- 51:37Speaker 3: It's to me, Devin McCarty is bigger than football. Like,
- 51:40Speaker 3: I think Devin McCarty is like one of the best
- 51:42Speaker 3: people that's ever walked through this building.
- 51:44Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, And I think that there's and he's recognized
- 51:47Speaker 5: as such.
- 51:48Speaker 3: I think that in other sports that would be recognized
- 51:51Speaker 3: even bigger, and this is not one of them.
- 51:52Speaker 2: In your argument, no one ever should be Devin mccordy.
- 51:55Speaker 2: I get that, but his number is different.
- 51:57Speaker 4: That's just the way I feel.
- 51:59Speaker 1: That's another moment.
- 52:03Speaker 2: All right back here on Patriots Unfiltered, it's Paul, it's Deuce,
- 52:07Speaker 2: it's me, it's Matt Evan.
- 52:10Speaker 5: A good memory right there, Mike making fun of me
- 52:13Speaker 5: on the practice field. Matt, he got me, Well he
- 52:16Speaker 5: got twelve.
- 52:18Speaker 2: Who's twelve? Matt'll be bye later. I mean not Matt
- 52:22Speaker 2: Evan practice before.
- 52:23Speaker 4: Maybe we can spin his song for him. Okay, all right,
- 52:27Speaker 4: I need a locker room.
- 52:28Speaker 2: Web radio at Patriots dot com. Is the email address
- 52:31Speaker 2: eight five five pass five hundred is the eight ticket houtline.
- 52:35Speaker 2: And let's go to the Patriots hutline right now. Let's
- 52:38Speaker 2: see what our listeners and viewers have to say. Anthony's
- 52:42Speaker 2: in Toronto? What's up Anthony? Anthony and Toronto? I guess
- 52:50Speaker 2: he isn't there anymore.
- 52:54Speaker 8: It's sad.
- 52:54Speaker 5: Yeah, he'll call back, I'm sure Toronto. Oh, well, when
- 53:00Speaker 5: Danny Amidola hung up on Adam Jones.
- 53:02Speaker 2: It be nice. It'd be nice when they hang up,
- 53:04Speaker 2: like if they hung up, like they're gone from the screen.
- 53:08Speaker 2: You know.
- 53:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I'd like to make fun of you, But I
- 53:11Speaker 5: don't think you did anything wrong there. He wasn't waiting
- 53:14Speaker 5: all that long either. No, it's only like twenty twenty
- 53:16Speaker 5: five minutes.
- 53:17Speaker 2: Rude, I mean, just rude. Let's get to some of
- 53:21Speaker 2: these emails that are coming in.
- 53:23Speaker 5: Read them, yeah, read them on loud, Mike, it looks
- 53:26Speaker 5: like a long one.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Mike and Boca Ratan talking about the j E eleven
- 53:30Speaker 2: Games with Name podcast he said there was some good
- 53:33Speaker 2: nuggets in there. He had Josh mcdann's I heard there
- 53:36Speaker 2: was like.
- 53:38Speaker 4: Through an an hour and twenty minutes.
- 53:39Speaker 5: So I look forward to this email to tell me
- 53:41Speaker 5: what I will never listen to.
- 53:43Speaker 2: Some of the nuggets. Josh discuss how Belichick would have
- 53:47Speaker 2: the coaches towards the end of the year look for
- 53:50Speaker 2: plays they might run in the playoffs that were on
- 53:53Speaker 2: game tape for this game. That meant the double pass
- 53:57Speaker 2: and ineligible receiver plays. Okay, I guess he was talking
- 54:02Speaker 2: about the Ravens game.
- 54:04Speaker 5: Obviously that was their games with names.
- 54:07Speaker 2: Oh, I see, gotcha. Belichick told Josh to save the
- 54:10Speaker 2: ineligible receiver play for the second half. He didn't want
- 54:14Speaker 2: the Ravens to be able to make halftime adjustments. He
- 54:17Speaker 2: thought it would be more difficult to make sideline adjustments.
- 54:20Speaker 2: Good Bill told Josh not to use many running plays,
- 54:25Speaker 2: focus on the pass. Josh told the story about sharing
- 54:28Speaker 2: this with Dante. He compared it to telling your wife
- 54:31Speaker 2: you wanted to take an overseas golf trip with the guys.
- 54:34Speaker 5: Only that's a good one.
- 54:36Speaker 2: Yeah. And Josh explained how former Patriots coach Dean Peas
- 54:41Speaker 2: called the blitz on the double pass, which was the
- 54:44Speaker 2: perfect defense for the Patriots to be successful on that play.
- 54:48Speaker 6: Yeah, I haven't gotten all the way through it yea
- 54:51Speaker 6: hour and twenty, but some good stuff in there that
- 54:55Speaker 6: that he kind of mentioned. And I thought it was
- 54:56Speaker 6: funny because he said the week of the prep for
- 55:00Speaker 6: the Ravens, Josh went into Bill's office and Bill was like,
- 55:03Speaker 6: he would say something cryptic, kind of just like, yeah,
- 55:05Speaker 6: I don't think.
- 55:06Speaker 4: We're going to be a lot of running this week.
- 55:08Speaker 8: You know.
- 55:08Speaker 6: He says something kind of like this, so Josh should
- 55:09Speaker 6: be like, so, do you not want me to put
- 55:12Speaker 6: any running plays it? You know, it's kind of like
- 55:13Speaker 6: and then he had to go and share it with Dante.
- 55:16Speaker 6: I forget what the exact stats were. I mean they
- 55:18Speaker 6: ran the bout like eight times the whole game. Of course,
- 55:19Speaker 6: they were down you know, fourteen zip quick and they
- 55:22Speaker 6: were always kind of chasing instead of four. So anyway,
- 55:24Speaker 6: but you know, one really interesting point, and this keeps
- 55:27Speaker 6: coming up, and it's just something that I've never quite
- 55:29Speaker 6: been able to reconcile in my head, is the perception
- 55:33Speaker 6: out there that Bill Belichick wanted to do it all
- 55:36Speaker 6: himself and that you know, we didn't want to listen
- 55:38Speaker 6: to anybody and you know, my way of the highway
- 55:39Speaker 6: kind of thing.
- 55:39Speaker 4: And again in.
- 55:40Speaker 6: This podcast, it was reiterated by Edelman and Josh of
- 55:44Speaker 6: how much he.
- 55:44Speaker 4: Would look for input from everybody.
- 55:46Speaker 6: And what Edelman kind of said was He'll come up
- 55:50Speaker 6: and ask you, but he said, don't if you don't know,
- 55:52Speaker 6: don't make it up because I'm not coming back to
- 55:53Speaker 6: you again. And you know, even Edelman said, I, you know,
- 55:56Speaker 6: I was surprised Bill come up to me and say,
- 55:57Speaker 6: you know, what are you seeing these kind of things? So,
- 55:59Speaker 6: you know, they just both of them kind of expressed
- 56:02Speaker 6: confusion as to why you know that this wasn't something
- 56:05Speaker 6: that people and because I thought Halberstam wrote it in
- 56:08Speaker 6: the book too of you know, I don't know.
- 56:10Speaker 4: You can criticize Belichick for a lot of things.
- 56:11Speaker 6: I just don't know, you know, where the truth lies
- 56:13Speaker 6: in this one, because he does seem like he valued
- 56:16Speaker 6: input from everybody. Didn't mean that he took it from everybody,
- 56:19Speaker 6: but that he was willing to talk to players, to
- 56:21Speaker 6: his coaches. He wanted that so he could make the
- 56:24Speaker 6: best decision possible.
- 56:26Speaker 5: I would say the difference was toward the end, he
- 56:28Speaker 5: didn't have the answers. Those guys didn't have the answers. Yeah,
- 56:33Speaker 5: you know, Josh, wasn't there anymore guys like Edelman that
- 56:36Speaker 5: had done it. Weren't there anymore Ernie. And he's dealing
- 56:39Speaker 5: with a lot of coaches who, frankly, weren't quite ready
- 56:43Speaker 5: for the jobs that they had.
- 56:45Speaker 2: I think when it came to game planning, there's no
- 56:48Speaker 2: one even in his stratisfy and he just.
- 56:50Speaker 5: Like that anecdote that Mike just explained, Bill had the
- 56:54Speaker 5: game plan on offense, right, I don't think we're going
- 56:57Speaker 5: to run the ball that much this week, you know.
- 57:00Speaker 5: And then Josh is like, okay, so you don't want
- 57:01Speaker 5: me to put any running plays in this week, you know? Yea.
- 57:04Speaker 5: And then we saw that in the nine one where
- 57:08Speaker 5: Brady sits with Belichick and they're going over this, that
- 57:11Speaker 5: and the other thing, and then Brady gets up he goes, Okay,
- 57:12Speaker 5: I'm gonna go I'll go tell Billy, oh, yeah, like
- 57:16Speaker 5: this it's really not cryptic. Well, Bill Belichick, I think
- 57:20Speaker 5: stuff together, and then those guys implement.
- 57:22Speaker 2: I think what people question, and even people within the
- 57:25Speaker 2: team question, is it's more the drafting and the free
- 57:28Speaker 2: agent stuff, and it's like, Okay, my kids will walk
- 57:32Speaker 2: on on Rutgers and great Cianna's the coach, and all
- 57:35Speaker 2: of a sudden, we're drafting Rutgers guys. I think we
- 57:37Speaker 2: never did that before. I mean, these coaches and scouts,
- 57:41Speaker 2: they know what's going on. It's not you know, and
- 57:44Speaker 2: they so they question that, like if you're just gonna
- 57:48Speaker 2: you know, you know, and not that. Obviously people that
- 57:51Speaker 2: he got from Rutgers were good, like mccordy, but like,
- 57:55Speaker 2: if you're just gonna do that, what do you need
- 57:56Speaker 2: us for?
- 57:56Speaker 6: I think that's a great way to put it, Fred, Like,
- 57:58Speaker 6: I mean that's maybe where the line is strong. Where
- 58:00Speaker 6: it was when it was coaching and it was game
- 58:02Speaker 6: plan stuff. Yeah, very much wanted input and when it
- 58:06Speaker 6: was what players I'm picking. I'm going to give myself
- 58:09Speaker 6: well for the doubt over every wanted.
- 58:11Speaker 2: And I mentioned Greg Ciano, but there were other guys
- 58:15Speaker 2: that he wanted to do favors for, you know, like
- 58:18Speaker 2: because when an NFL team takes a player from a
- 58:22Speaker 2: certain college, that's a badge of honor for that college
- 58:25Speaker 2: and especially that head coach. Oh look, how many of
- 58:28Speaker 2: my guys made it to the NFL and we're not
- 58:30Speaker 2: even a big school, you know. So Bill was doing
- 58:33Speaker 2: that guy a favor for whatever reason, and scouts see
- 58:37Speaker 2: that and it's like, well, we're putting in all this
- 58:40Speaker 2: work and you know you're drafting a guy for other reasons.
- 58:45Speaker 5: I think that was speaking of the badge of honor
- 58:47Speaker 5: for the colleges. Did you guys happen to see the
- 58:49Speaker 5: thing that was making the rounds on Twitter this morning?
- 58:51Speaker 5: In the off season, former Alabama players have signed contracts
- 58:57Speaker 5: combined worth over a billion with a B dollars, you know,
- 59:04Speaker 5: like Jalen Waddle and Tua and you know Barmore.
- 59:07Speaker 4: Oh, by the way, I Bury, the lead Barbour was
- 59:09Speaker 4: in the locker room too.
- 59:10Speaker 5: Barber was in the locker room.
- 59:11Speaker 4: I didn't, you know, talk to anybody so hanging out
- 59:14Speaker 4: with the question about Barmore.
- 59:15Speaker 5: And I'm not a lawyer, so I will ask a
- 59:17Speaker 5: question I don't have the answer to. And I believe
- 59:22Speaker 5: today was the first Mayo press conference that I did
- 59:25Speaker 5: not either attend or read the entirety of the transcript.
- 59:30Speaker 5: Yet they put him on n FI on according to
- 59:35Speaker 5: the wire, the NFL wire, they designated him as one
- 59:39Speaker 5: of their two guys designated to return. The other one
- 59:41Speaker 5: was Marty Marpool. Why why do you think because they
- 59:48Speaker 5: think he might return? Well, do you think that?
- 59:51Speaker 6: I think it was more just let's leave the door open.
- 59:53Speaker 6: There's no information of we think he's going to be
- 59:56Speaker 6: able to return, but we don't have anyone else to
- 59:58Speaker 6: use this on right now.
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: Let's just keep the door open. Who knows, maybe he's
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: able to come.
- 1:00:02Speaker 5: But here's the thing is, they didn't need to have two.
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: You can only have two the day of final cuts,
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: the final roster cutdown date, you can only have two,
- 1:00:14Speaker 5: but you can have as many as eight during you
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: might need you might need that. Yeah, during the season.
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: Well, I mean I would say, unless I'm layer worth,
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: he's a player worth taking that right, unless.
- 1:00:24Speaker 5: I'm misunderstanding the way the rule was was written to me.
- 1:00:27Speaker 6: You know now, I mean I think he's worth having
- 1:00:30Speaker 6: the rest of the fun Another funny thing I just
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: overheard was a quality talking to Barmore and he's literally
- 1:00:36Speaker 6: laying out exactly what I laid out. Was Like, Man,
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: two years ago you got hurt and I was in
- 1:00:41Speaker 6: there and I played a bunch, and then last year
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: you got hurt and I was there, you were in there, yeah,
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: and then this and then this year, you're hurt. Now
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: I'm going to be back in there. So they were
- 1:00:48Speaker 6: kind of you know, pointing out the last.
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: Two seasons, but you never seem to play together.
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: Yeah right, They never never seemed to be out there
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: at the same time.
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: I just I thought that was interesting. I don't really
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: think we've talked about it on the show. That is
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: a a minute detail that came out of Cutts last week.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: It's a little curious that we haven't heard any prognosis, like, hey,
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: you know things, you.
- 1:01:11Speaker 5: Know, So I'm a little curious as to why no
- 1:01:13Speaker 5: one has asked Male about it.
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, hopefully soon. I mean him being in
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: the locker room though, maybe it's a sign that that,
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: you know, there's more information or at least he seems
- 1:01:22Speaker 6: like he's doing better, he's got under control.
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: But I remember back in the day when Robert Edwards
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: suffered that, you know, really tragic knee injury at the
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: Pro Bowl when he was playing the Beach the Beach game.
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: So the next year, you know, obviously he was out
- 1:01:37Speaker 5: you know, the whole next year, and every once in
- 1:01:39Speaker 5: a while, he'd pop in the locker room. And I
- 1:01:44Speaker 5: think Bruce Armstrong once goes hey, Robert Son, they they'll
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: mail the check to you, bro, They'll mail it to
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: you. You don't need to come in and get it.
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: You know, that's funny.
- 1:01:56Speaker 6: I forget who earlier this season though, after Barb was out,
- 1:02:00Speaker 6: just said, you know, we want him around more, We
- 1:02:02Speaker 6: want him to come in, you know. So it was
- 1:02:03Speaker 6: it was just good to good to see him there.
- 1:02:05Speaker 6: You know, it's always those guys get hurt. You feel
- 1:02:07Speaker 6: like they disappear into the nether and see and I
- 1:02:08Speaker 6: used to be the.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: Thing, you know, you know, like they coaches didn't want
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: hurt guys around. Yeah, you know, give.
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: Me a couple more nuggets though from the Edelman thing
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: that I thought were interesting, just I never put together
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: that Edelman kind of felt like a Billy O guy
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: because he came in with Billy Oh as the offensive coordinator,
- 1:02:24Speaker 6: and when Josh came in, Edelman initially kind of felt
- 1:02:27Speaker 6: like he was gonna get iced out. And I think
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: he said Josh brought back Dante Stalwarts. I think Gaffney
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: he said Gaffney too, I remember stal Wars coming back
- 1:02:36Speaker 6: and maybe it's like twenty thirteen.
- 1:02:37Speaker 5: I definitely remember Star Wars, and I'm not sure about Gaffney.
- 1:02:39Speaker 5: I don't remember Gaffney.
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: Yeah, but I thought that was kind of interesting. I
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: never thought of it quite that way. You know, they
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: talked about I mean he said he said the.
- 1:02:48Speaker 6: Forty nine ers were often or more money like to
- 1:02:50Speaker 6: go out there Edelman and he ended up sticking around
- 1:02:53Speaker 6: here and obviously it all it all started to click,
- 1:02:55Speaker 6: But no good nuggets I enjoyed. I haven't listened to
- 1:02:57Speaker 6: any of those podcasts before. Which I didn't realize going
- 1:03:00Speaker 6: in is that he he takes I mean, I'm stupid,
- 1:03:02Speaker 6: I know, but he takes the games with names and
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: then he just talks about that game with one person.
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: It sounds like he lets the guest pick which they're
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: gonna do.
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: You know we always talk about all the time.
- 1:03:11Speaker 5: You like, Mike and I invented this.
- 1:03:15Speaker 6: I'm not, well, it's like how many Patriot Patriot games
- 1:03:20Speaker 6: with names that you you know that you can remember
- 1:03:22Speaker 6: this that's an easy way. And but I and he's
- 1:03:24Speaker 6: done like the a Rod slapping game, and you know
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: he's a little Yeah, initially I thought it was just
- 1:03:30Speaker 6: him kind of playing the greatest hits with you know,
- 1:03:32Speaker 6: Ernie bringing people. But it's it's more, you know, it
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: has a little bit more legs than than just being
- 1:03:37Speaker 6: limited to the Patriots game.
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: He's got the personality to pull it off to you know, he's.
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: He was good. It was good.
- 1:03:44Speaker 8: Uh.
- 1:03:44Speaker 6: You know, he's got his guy laying everything out, and
- 1:03:46Speaker 6: I mean, I just I enjoy the the little bit
- 1:03:48Speaker 6: of behind the scenes. One other thing that stood out
- 1:03:51Speaker 6: to me was just that, you know, when they had
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: the bye week, how it's you know, he said a
- 1:03:54Speaker 6: lot of people think, like, oh, the bye week, it's
- 1:03:56Speaker 6: like about getting healthy and stuff, and He's like, you know,
- 1:03:58Speaker 6: we would really try to figure out out a way
- 1:04:00Speaker 6: to get an advantage in these games. And you know,
- 1:04:02Speaker 6: what can we do that isn't on tape yet that
- 1:04:06Speaker 6: we can come up. I mean, they mentioned they threw
- 1:04:07Speaker 6: the double they tried to throw the double pass against
- 1:04:09Speaker 6: Kansas City in twenty fourteen, but they you know, waved
- 1:04:11Speaker 6: it off because it wasn't there, so they saved it.
- 1:04:14Speaker 6: So just that little beyond Josh is great. I mean,
- 1:04:16Speaker 6: I just I have trouble im saying that to Paul.
- 1:04:19Speaker 6: I think yesterday at our drinks that, Like, I just
- 1:04:21Speaker 6: have so much trouble reconciling like the person that I've
- 1:04:25Speaker 6: seen a few times in person and kind of the
- 1:04:27Speaker 6: vibe he gets, and then these Raider players all, you know,
- 1:04:30Speaker 6: seem to really not like him. And I just don't,
- 1:04:32Speaker 6: you know, I don't know if he puts on a
- 1:04:34Speaker 6: different facade when he's coaching or what, but it's I mean,
- 1:04:37Speaker 6: he generally to me seems like, you know, a nice guy,
- 1:04:39Speaker 6: guy that I would want to play for.
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: I never had anything resembling a bad interaction with Josh,
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: and he was here for a long time. Yeah, you know,
- 1:04:47Speaker 5: when we go back, you know, I'm not saying like,
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: you know, Josh and Paul they're great friends. No, we're not,
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: you know, Like, but I go back to like the
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: early two thousands, sitting down with him and Brian Dable
- 1:04:57Speaker 5: when they were both assistants coaching assistant US YEA, and
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: they used to write out the formations on cards like
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: index countings, have to lock them all and put them
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: in a like a loose leaf notebook and stuff like that,
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: and I just like, I'm with Mike, I can't really
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: understand guys fail. Like guys, there's some guys that are
- 1:05:18Speaker 5: just great assistant coaches, they just not cut out to
- 1:05:21Speaker 5: be head coaches. Dad, I understand this. I don't the
- 1:05:25Speaker 5: visceral reaction you get when you talk to people from
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: Denver and now with the Raiders when it comes to
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: Josh McDaniels, I don't get.
- 1:05:32Speaker 6: And even when we saw him out there, like we
- 1:05:34Speaker 6: you know, we went to a press conference out there
- 1:05:35Speaker 6: with you know, listen to him and in his element,
- 1:05:38Speaker 6: and it's still seemed like the same Josh. And then
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: you know he's gone and they're lighting up stogies in
- 1:05:43Speaker 6: the locker room afterwards.
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: Like ding dong, the witch is dead.
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: Like they did not they did not like him personally.
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: Strange.
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: Aaron's in Utah. What's up Aaron?
- 1:05:54Speaker 13: Hey, guys, this is a different Aaron in Utah. Long time,
- 1:05:58Speaker 13: second time Color just throwing to reach out and get
- 1:06:02Speaker 13: here ideas on labeling and expectations. A lot of a
- 1:06:07Speaker 13: lot of the people are saying the Chargers are the
- 1:06:09Speaker 13: Ravens of the South. I was wondering if we might
- 1:06:13Speaker 13: be labeled as the Browns in the East. You know,
- 1:06:17Speaker 13: we got the coach, We've got Jakobe, We've got a
- 1:06:19Speaker 13: strong defense, just like the Browns did last year. I'll
- 1:06:23Speaker 13: take it off from here, thank you.
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: Okay, could we be the Browns of last year?
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: I think in our division, I think there's some Oh
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: is that what he's trying to say.
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: I don't know. Like he said the Chargers of the Browns,
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: the charge South, I think he meant the West the Ravens.
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: But I don't really I don't understand why other than
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: like Hardball's brother is now the coach of the Chargers
- 1:06:45Speaker 5: that why.
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: Oh, well, they're going to run the ball.
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: I don't know. I didn't really understand that.
- 1:06:50Speaker 5: Like Jim Habba has been a guy who believes in
- 1:06:52Speaker 5: the running game, right, Like that's the kind of style John,
- 1:06:55Speaker 5: but he's not well, John has a running.
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: Quarterback, Lamar Jackson, Like he wasn't.
- 1:07:00Speaker 5: They weren't a running team necessarily when Joe Bowl, like
- 1:07:04Speaker 5: this is Lamar Jackson running zone reads and whatnot. For Cleveland,
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: there's obvious carryover. I mean, we have a lot of
- 1:07:13Speaker 5: Cleveland personnel. You know, when Van Pelt, I think that's
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: not an accident, you know, but it's Brissette, it's Hooper,
- 1:07:21Speaker 5: you know, it's mockey hockey. I mean They're like, there's
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: a handful of guys that they brought from Cleveland. Elliott
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: will spend time there. Yeah, I think there's some similarities
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: to we're running the Cleveland offense. I don't know if
- 1:07:33Speaker 5: he's talking about the rest of the team, Like, I
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: don't know if he's if looking for like a worster
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: of first kind of thing.
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't I don't know see that or.
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: Maybe just a competitive team. I don't know that does
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: it with the run and defense.
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: I mean, I'd like to believe it.
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: That's what Cleveland.
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: There's some big pieces in Cleveland.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: That was lighting it up.
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: Cleveland was better than people think in terms of their roster.
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: Cleveland's got an unbelievable roster of talent and they got
- 1:08:02Speaker 5: hit with a ton of injuries and just kept winning,
- 1:08:06Speaker 5: you know, but they also caught it right like this
- 1:08:11Speaker 5: this kind of bugs. Yeah, and they made the playoffs,
- 1:08:15Speaker 5: but they really weren't very good, you know, because Cincinnati
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: lost their quarterback and wasn't anywhere near as good as
- 1:08:21Speaker 5: they normally are. You know. People talk about the West, right,
- 1:08:25Speaker 5: the Chargers, the Raiders, and the Broncos, they're all kind
- 1:08:28Speaker 5: of stunk. But they all won like seven or eight
- 1:08:32Speaker 5: games each. Well, yeah, but they weren't very good. And
- 1:08:36Speaker 5: the reason why they won so many games is because
- 1:08:37Speaker 5: they played each other twice. So yeah, you can rack
- 1:08:42Speaker 5: up some wins, Like I don't think that the Patriots
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: will have that advantage having to play the Jets, the Bills,
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: and the Dolphins twice each. I think we would all
- 1:08:50Speaker 5: probably sign up for a two to four record in
- 1:08:52Speaker 5: the AFC East.
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: Sure, as long as both wins are against the Jets,
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: I'm good with that.
- 1:08:57Speaker 5: But in all seriousness, how many games, realistically do you
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: expect to win out of those six if all three
- 1:09:02Speaker 5: of them are healthy?
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: Right, it's fair enough.
- 1:09:05Speaker 5: You know, whereas the Broncos, he usually could beat the
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: Raiders or the Chargers, so I don't have to pull
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: an upset to do not, just like the Chargers didn't
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: have to pull an upset to beat the Raiders or
- 1:09:15Speaker 5: the Broncos.
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: That's interesting though, that those teams in the West kind
- 1:09:18Speaker 6: of stunk based on the teams they wanted to have
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: going in the season, whereas Cincinnati and Cleveland both you know,
- 1:09:24Speaker 6: played well despite injuries, and you know, we're still competitive
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: and enable. I mean, that's That's what I think you
- 1:09:30Speaker 6: need to strive for as a team, with you know,
- 1:09:32Speaker 6: focusing on Cincinnati this week. Their their ability to you know,
- 1:09:35Speaker 6: you lose your quarterback and you're still in there fighting
- 1:09:38Speaker 6: and able to you know, be competitive. I think that's
- 1:09:41Speaker 6: a you know, that shows I think what direction that
- 1:09:43Speaker 6: that franchise has moved in.
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: Dorian writes in from Maryland. Is it crazy of me
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: to believe that if there is any week for the
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: Patriots to achieve an upset, it would be this one?
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: The Bengals historically starts slow. Chase is a big question mark.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Week one is always shoppy for teams as they try
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: to build chemistry amongst the team. And the best part
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: yet is that teams who aren't good don't know they're
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: not good yet, so they don't play like it. Vegas
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: had the Patriots at nine and a half. So even
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: if we don't get the upset, I think we surely
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: could cover that spread.
- 1:10:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, it's hard to say, because once the
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: season gets rolling, other teams are gonna have injuries. You're
- 1:10:23Speaker 6: gonna have teams that instead of missing Jamar Chase, they're
- 1:10:26Speaker 6: missing their quarterback. And you know, but I don't know,
- 1:10:29Speaker 6: I used to subscribe more to this theory of Week
- 1:10:33Speaker 6: one being kind of a crapshoot and not really that
- 1:10:35Speaker 6: indicative of what you're ultimately going to be in a
- 1:10:37Speaker 6: lot of it, Like was that two thousand and six
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: game you mentioned, I think I don't think we might
- 1:10:40Speaker 6: have been off the air the opener where it's like,
- 1:10:42Speaker 6: you know, crappy Buffalo team. You know, even Week one
- 1:10:44Speaker 6: in two thousand and nine kind of a crappy Buffalo
- 1:10:46Speaker 6: team and it's tight right down to the wire.
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: But I don't know. I just the more and more
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: I watch all.
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: The games, it feels like it's all the roots are
- 1:10:56Speaker 6: all kind of there, I think with these games, and
- 1:10:58Speaker 6: they might be a little bit more sloppy, but general
- 1:11:00Speaker 6: I haven't really felt that being the case.
- 1:11:02Speaker 5: Yeah, And I just like we were talking Mike before
- 1:11:05Speaker 5: you came down. It just I think people get so
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: wrapped up in some of the numbers, you know, like, well,
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: the Bengals are one and three under Burrow and openers, Okay,
- 1:11:15Speaker 5: but what does that have to do with this year?
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: The Patriots haven't covered an opener since, Like, Brady, what
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: does that have to do with this year? I might
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: be since since twenty I think they covered in the
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: cam Newteelers, Newton.
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: I hope they covered against the Steelers. They pound them.
- 1:11:31Speaker 5: And when did they play the Steelers?
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: The Steelers the opener in nineteen.
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: No, I'm talking about since twenty now twenty Yeah with Newton,
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: but they they haven't covered the last couple.
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: Yeah they got this is this is by the.
- 1:11:43Speaker 5: Way, this is dangerous. This is when and I love
- 1:11:45Speaker 5: them and I mean it. I'm taking Joe Murray's word
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: for it. Joe Murray at night on the Sports Hub.
- 1:11:51Speaker 5: You know, one of my favorite guys. But sometimes it's
- 1:11:54Speaker 5: a little loose with his numbers and figures, so maybe
- 1:11:56Speaker 5: that's not right. But like my point being like this
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: isn't new year. It's all different personnel for the Patriots,
- 1:12:03Speaker 5: an entire new coaching staff almost, Like what does that
- 1:12:06Speaker 5: have to do with last year that they didn't cover
- 1:12:08Speaker 5: against Philadelphia? Like there was nothing really to carry over,
- 1:12:13Speaker 5: Like the Patriots could easily cover Sunday. I could see
- 1:12:15Speaker 5: them easily getting blown out too, Like who knows.
- 1:12:17Speaker 6: I just hope they're not like sloppy and just don't
- 1:12:20Speaker 6: even give themselves a chance with stupid stuff like the
- 1:12:22Speaker 6: penalties and the turnovers, and you know, if you just
- 1:12:24Speaker 6: play a clean game and you maybe get a sense
- 1:12:27Speaker 6: of where this team is at.
- 1:12:28Speaker 5: But how would you feel if they played a clean game.
- 1:12:31Speaker 5: Let's say they have two or three penalties, no turnovers
- 1:12:35Speaker 5: and they lose by seventeen points.
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: Not great, Bob, Not great, me too.
- 1:12:40Speaker 5: Oh yeah, like I almost if they're gonna lose, you
- 1:12:42Speaker 5: want an excuse? Yeah, like last year, last year, that
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: Philadelphia game. Yeah, you know, they had like three turnovers.
- 1:12:51Speaker 5: You know there was I think was it two? I
- 1:12:55Speaker 5: know there was one pick six at least I thought
- 1:12:57Speaker 5: was there a fumble that no, maybe set up a
- 1:12:59Speaker 5: short field. So at least you said, well, jeez, if
- 1:13:01Speaker 5: we just didn't shoot ourselves in the foot, we might
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: have been able to win this game.
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: And Booty gets his foot in.
- 1:13:06Speaker 5: You know, I would rather if you're going to lose,
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: I'd rather have that cost ourselves the game as opposed
- 1:13:15Speaker 5: to it.
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: We just went out there, we.
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: Played as well as we can and the other team
- 1:13:18Speaker 5: was three touchdowns better.
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: That would be without Jamar Chase, that would be depressing.
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: Barton Poland writes in I have the Bengals as my
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: Super Bowl pick so I don't have big expectation for Sunday. However,
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: it's probably the best time to face them when it
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: comes to May. I just hope maybe becomes the starter
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: before the London game. That's all I asked for, as
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: it will be my first NFL game and that all
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: attend live. Also a question is I would give you a.
- 1:13:42Speaker 5: Pretty good odds on that before the London game?
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: Okay in England. Also a question, is there a full
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: and official list of all of Paul's shows. I'm pretty
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: sure that I'm aware of most of them, but it
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: would be great if you could clarify which shows exactly
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: are considered Paul shows, especially for people outside the area.
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: They'll be on one of my shows momentarily.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: Paul shows or any show that will give them a
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: paychecky right, No, but.
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: You assign a lot of shows to me that I
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: have nothing to do with, Like on the other channel.
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: That's not true. The more morning shows, both afternoon shows
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: and but.
- 1:14:22Speaker 5: NBC Sports get paid by any of those.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: You've been on both all those shows.
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: I've not been on ee I since nine really, yeah,
- 1:14:32Speaker 5: that's when I.
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: Started cutting them. Are they boycotting you?
- 1:14:34Speaker 5: No, I'm on the other chair.
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: I know, but you don't have any exclusivity thing.
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: I don't bite the hand that feeds you have a
- 1:14:41Speaker 5: loyalty thing. They pay me.
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: Well if Andy Hart says, we'd like you to appear in.
- 1:14:46Speaker 5: A different, different argument, Now I'm open for business. It's
- 1:14:52Speaker 5: going to cost you. You know what. Yesterday's price is
- 1:14:54Speaker 5: not today's.
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: I like it.
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: I like it.
- 1:14:56Speaker 5: It's going to a little more. Matt tell them, I
- 1:15:00Speaker 5: tell them, I you negotiate. Yeah, Matt knows. Matt understands
- 1:15:05Speaker 5: it's looking for his button. No, but seriously like ruining
- 1:15:11Speaker 5: the joke, looking for the button. I would I would say,
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: felgrim az.
- 1:15:15Speaker 4: Yea, my blossoms out of there.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: Yeah you know that.
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: What's that show with Treny that one too that.
- 1:15:20Speaker 5: I haven't done that really?
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: Yeah at all?
- 1:15:23Speaker 5: Late night though, Yeah, they always asked me to do late.
- 1:15:25Speaker 6: I always see, like I know, I just see people
- 1:15:28Speaker 6: like getting ready to go on and it's like ten
- 1:15:29Speaker 6: o'clock at night.
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: I'm like, no way tired.
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: They were all your shows?
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: Is that my show?
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: That's one of your shows? All these talk shows are
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: your shows.
- 1:15:40Speaker 5: Yeah, the I ones are not my shows.
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I wouldn't give you the Morning show. Yeah, I
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: don't think that's the show.
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: That's not your show.
- 1:15:47Speaker 5: The Morning on THEI it's not my show, and really
- 1:15:50Speaker 5: the Morning on the Hubs not my show either.
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: It's Sad talked to her yesterday.
- 1:15:55Speaker 5: I have filled in a little bit. I heard the segment.
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: How did it go over?
- 1:15:59Speaker 5: They got them all, but they all seemed to legitimately
- 1:16:02Speaker 5: be guessing. So Hardy came up with a game Fred
- 1:16:08Speaker 5: on one of my shows on the Sports Hub, and
- 1:16:11Speaker 5: he called Mike to solicit some some advice. So it
- 1:16:14Speaker 5: was the game was Patriot or Patriot? So was the
- 1:16:19Speaker 5: guy the name that he's going to say, is that
- 1:16:21Speaker 5: actually a member of the New England Patriots or was
- 1:16:24Speaker 5: he one of the Patriot quotes? A member of the
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: January sixth Insurrection? And he came up with names that
- 1:16:33Speaker 5: were like eerily similar. It was like Mitchell Wilcox or
- 1:16:37Speaker 5: Mitchell something else. And there was a three named guy
- 1:16:40Speaker 5: like Joe Giles Harris or someone else that was But
- 1:16:43Speaker 5: they got all of them right. Wallack and Fred got
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: them all right.
- 1:16:46Speaker 6: I thought we might get him with some of the
- 1:16:47Speaker 6: new guys on you know, the New Practice Squad guys,
- 1:16:51Speaker 6: but it's tough.
- 1:16:53Speaker 5: Well, and then you know, Hardy was saying, like, you know,
- 1:16:56Speaker 5: will Cox is from Florida and the other guys from
- 1:16:58Speaker 5: Florida too, and they were like, cool, that's tough thing.
- 1:17:00Speaker 5: It's normally from Like one of the insurrectionists was from
- 1:17:03Speaker 5: West Virginia and they meet it like, I'm going with
- 1:17:05Speaker 5: the West Virginia guy.
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: Oh here here, here it is.
- 1:17:09Speaker 6: If you want some of the names, Mitchell Wilcox or
- 1:17:12Speaker 6: Mitchell Todd Garner. That wasn't the one that Joe Giles
- 1:17:15Speaker 6: Harris or Joe Randall Biggs.
- 1:17:17Speaker 5: Yeah, that one they did.
- 1:17:18Speaker 6: Zachary Thomas or Zachary Rell real real, Eric Johnson or
- 1:17:23Speaker 6: Eric Barbaro.
- 1:17:24Speaker 5: Yeah they did those. Yeah, good stuff, good stuff.
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: Robin san Diego via Connecticut went to training camp this
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: year and had a very good time. Thought it was
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: very fan Training camp is a great time for He
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: also says there's been a lot of talk about quarterback
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: and when May should start. What happens if Brissette plays
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: just fine, not poor, but not great, We lose games close,
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: but he's doing well enough, will there be any locker
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: room disturbance or issues from veterans? If May is put
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: in under those circumstances, I asked, because most of these
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: conversations are framed in the offense being stuck in the
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: mud and Brissett playing poorly.
- 1:18:06Speaker 6: I mean it kind of feels to me a little
- 1:18:07Speaker 6: bit like Bledsoe and Brady, where Bledsoe is a good quarterback.
- 1:18:10Speaker 6: But I feel like the team maybe was won over
- 1:18:13Speaker 6: by Brady and they could see that that's how they
- 1:18:15Speaker 6: want to play and that the ceiling would be higher
- 1:18:17Speaker 6: under Brady. But I mean, I think it's winning if
- 1:18:20Speaker 6: Jacoby's winning games though, but.
- 1:18:21Speaker 5: He said no, he said they're.
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: Losing well, then don't know.
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: He said he's playing well, but they're they're losing close games.
- 1:18:28Speaker 5: I don't think that anybody will have any problem with
- 1:18:31Speaker 5: changing to Drake May at any point this season. I
- 1:18:33Speaker 5: really don't. I think that those guys are smart enough
- 1:18:36Speaker 5: to understand unless that one caveat of Brissette's lighting it
- 1:18:42Speaker 5: up and they're really playing well, like they're six and two,
- 1:18:44Speaker 5: and then I think you got some veterans that are like,
- 1:18:47Speaker 5: wait a minute, what do we do why they're playing well?
- 1:18:49Speaker 5: We got a chance we want to win.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:18:51Speaker 5: Otherwise, let's say his scenario. You know, Brissett's playing well,
- 1:18:55Speaker 5: but you know they are three and five. No one's
- 1:18:57Speaker 5: going to argue.
- 1:18:58Speaker 6: That, especially to you, because the element that you believe
- 1:19:01Speaker 6: that Drake make an offer that we've seen is just
- 1:19:04Speaker 6: a new explosive element where if you're not winning games,
- 1:19:06Speaker 6: then you know, even if he's playing well, he's not
- 1:19:08Speaker 6: going to be playing so well that he's you know,
- 1:19:10Speaker 6: hitting Taekwon Thorn on a sixty year bomb or you know,
- 1:19:13Speaker 6: doing the things.
- 1:19:14Speaker 4: That Drake May is able to do. So I think
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: that would buffer the decision a little bit, you know.
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: I mean we've talked about it before the comp There
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: is down in Miami when Tua was a rookie and
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: Ryan Fitzpatrick was doing okay. Yeah, and he's a good
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: locker room guy. You know, he grew the beard so
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: he could be relatable because he's from Harvard.
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: But they weren't winning, so you know, they like three
- 1:19:36Speaker 5: and three or so, like five hundred winning, so there
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: was nothing to be lost by making the change. They
- 1:19:42Speaker 5: actually won more after they made the change, even though
- 1:19:44Speaker 5: Tua wasn't really responsible for them winning.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: Nate writes in don't know if you guys mentioned this
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: but shout out to the team for paying bar Moore
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: his salary this year. Classy move.
- 1:19:57Speaker 5: Yeah pretty much. Yeah, there is an option, but teams
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: like Cincinnati might take the option. The other thirty one
- 1:20:06Speaker 5: teams would have paid them. And by the way, it
- 1:20:08Speaker 5: was like a million. I think it was one point
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: eight million, So like, we're not really even I know
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: that sounds like a lot to me and you especially me,
- 1:20:15Speaker 5: not as much you Fred, But I don't really see
- 1:20:19Speaker 5: I don't really see an option there, Like you can
- 1:20:21Speaker 5: alienate one of your best young players and not pay
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: them over a one point eight million, or you can
- 1:20:26Speaker 5: do what everybody else does.
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: Right, all right? Evan's here? Evan?
- 1:20:32Speaker 13: Has we turned from?
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: Evan?
- 1:20:35Speaker 5: Has we turned from?
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: Has we turned from?
- 1:20:41Speaker 13: Who was there?
- 1:20:44Speaker 8: All right?
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: Evan? He's the first one of them. A lot of
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: pressure feels a full practice report.
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: That feels like when people sing you happy birthday, you're
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: not really sure what to do. You just kind of sit.
- 1:20:55Speaker 5: Here and they're like, it's kind of like sunshine day
- 1:20:57Speaker 5: in like an hour and a half.
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: Uh No, it feels good to be back. But the
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: big practice report here today Vederian low back at practice
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: the Patriots on Wednesday, still sounds you know. The scuttle
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: button in the locker room was that he's getting better,
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: but maybe not quite there yet for Sunday, so we'll see.
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: Uh still no city, so he was absent, the lone
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: player officially absent from the fifty three man roster. Jonathan
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: Russell not not there from the practice squad, if care,
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: but no city. So Venerian low there present, participating at
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: some capacity. So that's the news, right pads, Uh no,
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: no pad shells A little surprise, yeah, yeah, you know
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: it was uh, I believe they are in pads on Monday.
- 1:21:47Speaker 5: Oh okay, I'm not a surprise by it.
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: And now so you know, today was still you know,
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: shell practice. It's pretty similar, just no no full equipment.
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: So yeah, playing music throughout.
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: There was not music during stretch now really I think
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: about it.
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: It's kind of weird.
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: Yeah, stretched out, Yeah, isn't It wasn't I don't think so.
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: No music, which was a little bit odd.
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: But so to that affect the mood.
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: Maybe a little bit, Fred, you know, the mood I
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: think has been relatively good now.
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: Now both were in the locker room, yeah, Deuce said.
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: The mood in the locker room was business like.
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: That's a fair way of putting it, Okay, Yeah, but
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: I feel like the mood is a little bit looser
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: than Yeah, then maybe you'd normally see it. I think right
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: now there's still hope. Season hasn't started yet, you know,
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: just remembering the last couple of locker rooms last year,
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: it was obviously pretty doom and glub in there after
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: the season that they had. But right now it's a
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: fresh season. It's a new new thing for everybody. So
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: I felt like the locker room on Monday and today
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: was I don't want to call it lively, but it
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: was a little bit loose.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, all right.
- 1:22:58Speaker 4: I did talk to them, I mean we were you want.
- 1:23:00Speaker 6: Bentley is always usually pretty business like anyway, so yeah,
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: but he seemed especially just like.
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, he's he's always a little bit like that.
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: But uh, it was another practice where we had one
- 1:23:13Speaker 3: period of access, then they kick us out, and then
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: we get three more periods after that of individuals and
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: just to watch them like go through.
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: I think there's a kickoff.
- 1:23:23Speaker 6: I mean, are we brewing something on the kickoff or
- 1:23:25Speaker 6: is that I mean that's sorry, dynamic kickoff. Sorry, Paul,
- 1:23:27Speaker 6: it's possibly something on the dynamic kickoff, but that time
- 1:23:30Speaker 6: of practice is still walk through tempo. It's not like
- 1:23:33Speaker 6: that's like a live period, but have been kicked off.
- 1:23:36Speaker 6: But maybe it's just.
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: The who's doing what, you know, in terms of who's
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: lining up where, who's returning kicks, you know, not that
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: I really feel like that has changed much since the
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: preseason or since camp, but that that might be a possibility,
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: you know, Jalen Rakers and technically not on the fifty
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: three man roster, so maybe there's some other guys that
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: are trying to practice that to see if they can
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: do it.
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: So is it on the kickoffs? Is it like a
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: regular play from scrimmage where the defense has a chance
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: to adjust on uh, make the last substitutions.
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: That's a good question. I I don't know the answer
- 1:24:15Speaker 3: to that.
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: And on this so is the kicking team the defense
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: on this play or is it the receiver? So in
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: other words, you get out there and one side seas okay,
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: this is the type of personnel they have. You would
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: you see a team making a wholesale change to adjust
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: to that and like counteract the personnel that they have
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: on the dynamic kickoff and who gets who's the last
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: team to be able to substitute on that play.
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: That's a good question.
- 1:24:45Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know if right out of it
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: we figure this out. It's kind of hard to have
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: a whole second kickoff team that, you know.
- 1:24:52Speaker 5: I like the outside the box thinking. Yeah, I don't
- 1:24:55Speaker 5: think it will happen, but I like the thought.
- 1:24:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:24:57Speaker 3: I'm kind of like stumped on it because I've sort
- 1:24:59Speaker 3: of would do I guess it just to me, it
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: feels like you have these guys practicing this all week, but.
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: We have our small unit and now we have our
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: big unit.
- 1:25:08Speaker 5: You know, it's possible. Good for you, I think.
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: That was you.
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: That's a good thought.
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: He said it, and then's trying to pin it on
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: me big units.
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a good question for Jeremy Springer. Yea, yeah, thanks,
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: time we talk.
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: Evan has an email and this is from Joe. He says,
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: we were talking about the value of wide receivers and
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: how Bill's different. You know, Bill had a certain value
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: for certain types of wide receivers. Uh. Joe says, the
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: Super Bowl doesn't. Super Bowl teams doesn't value wide receivers
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: the way you think they should be either. Historically, teams
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: who value receivers the way you do are very nice
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: little regular season teams. Hill and Cup have won recently,
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: and then the Chiefs went and want to without him.
- 1:26:03Speaker 5: Okay, that's dumb.
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: So the San Francisco with Ayuk and Debo, No.
- 1:26:09Speaker 5: They don't count because they didn't win.
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: Affiliate with aj Brown and DeVante's.
- 1:26:12Speaker 5: They also don't count because they didn't win. According to
- 1:26:14Speaker 5: this email, god like you just you know, the nice
- 1:26:17Speaker 5: little regular season teams like can we just sort of
- 1:26:21Speaker 5: accept the fact that Patrick Mahomes is a little special, right,
- 1:26:24Speaker 5: and he can win it when he's loaded at the
- 1:26:26Speaker 5: skill positions, and he can win it when he has
- 1:26:28Speaker 5: nothing at the skill positions. It's a little bit of
- 1:26:31Speaker 5: an outlier that not all teams can rely on because
- 1:26:34Speaker 5: Evan accurately points out that all of the other teams
- 1:26:37Speaker 5: that played against them in the Super Bowl had exactly
- 1:26:40Speaker 5: what Evan's talking about, like the dynamic lead receiver, yeah
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: or two, Like I just when has it ever been
- 1:26:49Speaker 5: a good idea to not have the best players you
- 1:26:52Speaker 5: can have because somehow no offense. Mike Brady's brilliance cons
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: people into thinking you didn't need great players without realizing
- 1:27:03Speaker 5: that you had the single greatest player who's ever played.
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it's easy to have a strong middle class and
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: and all that stuff when your best player is the
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: greatest of all time.
- 1:27:13Speaker 5: And that's what Mahomes is doing for the Chiefs right now.
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: That's right.
- 1:27:16Speaker 5: And by the way, I would argue, Travis Kelce is
- 1:27:19Speaker 5: every bit the number one receiver that Aj Brown will
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: ever be. Yeah, you know, maybe he's a little bit
- 1:27:25Speaker 5: past his prime. Now what's he like, thirty four to
- 1:27:27Speaker 5: thirty five? Okay, so maybe he's not quite the same.
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: He was Gronk in terms of being a receiver at
- 1:27:33Speaker 5: the time. He was never Gronk in terms of an
- 1:27:35Speaker 5: overall tight end. But that's your lead receiver.
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: Right, I mean, he definitely flipped the switch in the
- 1:27:39Speaker 3: playoffs last year. He had some huge games for them
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: in the playoffs that I had. Paul said it great, like,
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: Travis Kelsey doesn't count because he plays tight end, Like, yeah,
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: Gronk didn't count.
- 1:27:51Speaker 8: You know.
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: Edelman didn't count because he played in the slot instead
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: of playing on the outside. Million ways to stir the
- 1:27:56Speaker 3: drink as long as it gets stirred, and then the truth.
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: Is is that this game has signaled that they think
- 1:28:01Speaker 4: that way.
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: They want to also never say like, well, you have
- 1:28:06Speaker 5: to have a number one receiver like no, like if
- 1:28:09Speaker 5: you're really good and you just have a bunch of
- 1:28:11Speaker 5: good receivers but you're excellent in other yeah, you can win.
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: But I just think most of these offenses, now, I
- 1:28:18Speaker 5: know that the nice regular season teams that have good offenses,
- 1:28:21Speaker 5: they have that.
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: Yeah, it's really just Miami to like the Emailer, what
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: are their nice regular season teams?
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: Dallas?
- 1:28:28Speaker 5: I think Dallas is a nice regular season team that
- 1:28:30Speaker 5: has the shiny.
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: CD nice regular season team.
- 1:28:35Speaker 5: I don't see the difference between me. I think that
- 1:28:37Speaker 5: the Emailers was saying as sort of like a like
- 1:28:41Speaker 5: a negative. I don't think there's anything wrong with being
- 1:28:43Speaker 5: Miami in Dallas, like working to try to get over
- 1:28:46Speaker 5: the hump. But talent's not the issue. But they're trying
- 1:28:49Speaker 5: to get over the hump.
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: Didn't the Chiefs win also with the number one receiver?
- 1:28:55Speaker 5: Yeah, well he said that, but then the last two
- 1:28:57Speaker 5: without Hill but completely ignoring right right anyways, But I.
- 1:29:03Speaker 6: Don't know, I just would say, after watching this offense
- 1:29:05Speaker 6: for the last couple of years, it's just throw out one, two, three,
- 1:29:08Speaker 6: X y Z.
- 1:29:09Speaker 4: Like you need explosive players, you need players that can
- 1:29:11Speaker 4: move the needle. And with this differences stuck in the
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: difference offense, you.
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: Do realize if the Patriots had finished the deal in
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: O seven, they wouldn't be arguing this anymore because you'd
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: be the perfect team with the number one wide receiver.
- 1:29:26Speaker 5: If people realized the talent level that the Patriots had,
- 1:29:31Speaker 5: they wouldn't be saying this. It's exactly what evan It
- 1:29:33Speaker 5: Mike said. Like, Gronk doesn't count, right, Gronk might be
- 1:29:36Speaker 5: the greatest tight end in the history of football. Yep,
- 1:29:39Speaker 5: that doesn't count as like the lead dog, the lead
- 1:29:43Speaker 5: receiver star. You know in eighteen Edelman was immense in
- 1:29:48Speaker 5: the playoffs. That doesn't count as a number one receiver. Yeah,
- 1:29:51Speaker 5: well of course it does.
- 1:29:53Speaker 4: I think too.
- 1:29:54Speaker 6: It's what made those Patriots teams so fun because it
- 1:29:57Speaker 6: wasn't like anything you really could put like the easy
- 1:30:00Speaker 6: we got Moss on the outside, we gotta stop. It
- 1:30:02Speaker 6: was this tight end who could block Helodinada and then
- 1:30:06Speaker 6: run down the scene and have a twenty five thirty
- 1:30:08Speaker 6: yard catch. You know it was that was what made
- 1:30:10Speaker 6: it so unique and exciting, like an eleven twelve when
- 1:30:12Speaker 6: that thing really hit the gear.
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: You know, I tell you an unpopular opinion, The old
- 1:30:16Speaker 5: nineteen didn't fail because all you had to do was
- 1:30:18Speaker 5: double team Moss over the top and slammed down on Welker.
- 1:30:21Speaker 5: They couldn't stop anybody. Yeah, that's why they failed.
- 1:30:24Speaker 4: Pass rush.
- 1:30:25Speaker 5: I mean, like that game in New Orleans that elicited that.
- 1:30:28Speaker 5: I just can't get these guys to play how many points?
- 1:30:30Speaker 5: How many points of That's why you didn't go where
- 1:30:33Speaker 5: you wanted to go.
- 1:30:34Speaker 6: There you got rid of, you got rid of Richard Seymour,
- 1:30:36Speaker 6: You put Jarvis Green in there and trying to stop
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: the running Ray Rice.
- 1:30:38Speaker 4: He's still running.
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: My favorite ducism is just naming random like twenty ten
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: pass rushers on the Patriots, Derek Burgess, Andre Carter Kelly.
- 1:30:49Speaker 5: He's uncanny, uncanny, Derek Burgess.
- 1:30:51Speaker 3: I have a thing.
- 1:30:52Speaker 5: I have a thing like I was thinking very mad
- 1:30:54Speaker 5: about it talking about the Safety Yet show and you
- 1:30:57Speaker 5: guys were going back and forth with safeties, and I
- 1:30:59Speaker 5: immediately was thinking, oh yeah, it was like mccordy, Harmon Chung,
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: And then I was thinking, I have no idea if
- 1:31:06Speaker 5: Chung was on that team that we were talking about.
- 1:31:07Speaker 5: So I didn't mention Jung, Yeah because I know du
- 1:31:11Speaker 5: A well he was.
- 1:31:13Speaker 4: Twelve.
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: But don't you remember that Derek Bird this year?
- 1:31:16Speaker 5: I do, Yeah, I do. He was one of the
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: he was one of the gang before that. It was
- 1:31:20Speaker 5: late when the dayly was Thomas. He had to show
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: up like the Jetson's.
- 1:31:24Speaker 2: Jetson and the Dailies.
- 1:31:25Speaker 4: Thomas was on the team. Didn't he get like hurt though?
- 1:31:27Speaker 5: Was he?
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: I don't think he was playing, but he fell out a.
- 1:31:29Speaker 5: Favor at that time. Sure did days Thomas like I
- 1:31:36Speaker 5: hate you.
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: Christen Cofax, California. Not sure if his play style fits,
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: but could we see del Pettis have a decent role
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: on defense due to the lack of a true free safety.
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: It seems like all of our safeties are strong safeties
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: or sub linebacker types. And how much playtime are you
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: expecting from Pok and Bell at the beginning of the season.
- 1:31:58Speaker 6: I don't expect del Pettis I and I think he
- 1:32:00Speaker 6: very well could be a game day inactive. I just
- 1:32:03Speaker 6: I mean Hawkins, they got three of those guys. As
- 1:32:08Speaker 6: for Bell, I don't think Bell's gonna play a lot.
- 1:32:10Speaker 6: I think Poke will play a lot. I think Polk
- 1:32:12Speaker 6: you got top four receivers. I think he'll he'll be
- 1:32:14Speaker 6: in that mix, and you know, they'll rotate him in
- 1:32:16Speaker 6: and out. I'm just curious if they activate Rager though,
- 1:32:18Speaker 6: if that's you know, do they roll with Booty because
- 1:32:20Speaker 6: that riger move was still surprising to me.
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: I always had Rager above Booty.
- 1:32:25Speaker 5: Yeah, and that would tell you a lot. Yeah, if
- 1:32:27Speaker 5: they activate him and deactivate a receiver, that tells you
- 1:32:30Speaker 5: a lot. He tells you that was right, yea Like Bell,
- 1:32:33Speaker 5: I felt like they could cut Rager or not lose him,
- 1:32:35Speaker 5: but they weren't sure about Booty.
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: That's sort of how I felt about it at the time,
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: was that Booty would have to go through waivers. And
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: it's had a couple of good preseasons. Maybe somebody you
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: know is still.
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: Elevate Raager two weeks and then see where we're at.
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: Maybe we just Yeah, but the safety he's looking for
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: is Jalen Hawkins. Like Jalen Hawkins is going to be
- 1:32:51Speaker 3: the darn harmon of this all, you know, if everything
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: works out. Dell Pettis to me is a little bit
- 1:32:57Speaker 3: more slot. I kind of, you know, in the box
- 1:33:01Speaker 3: type of thing.
- 1:33:02Speaker 5: I do kind of agree with his line of thought,
- 1:33:03Speaker 5: not with Dell Pettis. I don't think he's ready for
- 1:33:06Speaker 5: for a role on defense. But I found it interesting
- 1:33:10Speaker 5: because I think the three of us all thought the
- 1:33:12Speaker 5: same with Jalen Hawkins, like, oh maybe this is a guy. Yeah,
- 1:33:14Speaker 5: he doesn't really like playing like that. I don't know you,
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: I know you talked to him for a while. Yeah, Mike,
- 1:33:20Speaker 5: you know during camp he he fancies himself like like
- 1:33:24Speaker 5: another Dugger in Peppers. He wants to lay the lumber
- 1:33:27Speaker 5: and he wants to be in the back. No, he
- 1:33:28Speaker 5: talks about his versatility. That's yeah, all those guys do.
- 1:33:31Speaker 5: But I think he's more comfortable playing like Dugger and
- 1:33:34Speaker 5: Peppers than he would be playing like Devin mccordy.
- 1:33:37Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm not sure how they'll use him, but yeah,
- 1:33:38Speaker 6: the day I talked to him too, he like came
- 1:33:40Speaker 6: off the edge and had like a tackle for loss
- 1:33:42Speaker 6: and he was in the backfield a lot.
- 1:33:44Speaker 4: So I don't know. I'm I'm thinking that probably what.
- 1:33:47Speaker 6: They're gonna do is they're gonna use three and it's gonna.
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: And if they're going to all those things. You know,
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: Duly noted, we know what you want to do. This
- 1:33:53Speaker 5: is what you're going to do. Yeah, you know, but
- 1:33:55Speaker 5: it's you know, you could have Dougs and then on
- 1:33:57Speaker 5: Brian Belichick at.
- 1:33:58Speaker 6: The snap they're out. You know, it's I think they'll
- 1:34:00Speaker 6: play with those guys a lot. I'm just I am
- 1:34:02Speaker 6: curious though, how much Hawkins play is on defense. If
- 1:34:05Speaker 6: this is still a pure three safety defense that that's
- 1:34:08Speaker 6: kind of where we want to live, or is it
- 1:34:10Speaker 6: going to be more traditional with the two.
- 1:34:11Speaker 4: Guys and more of slot What do you guys?
- 1:34:14Speaker 3: Guy, I think it's still gonna be three safety heavy
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: because I just think it gives you so much flexibility
- 1:34:19Speaker 3: of where Duggar and Pepper's can be. Like those two
- 1:34:22Speaker 3: guys need to be as close to the ball as possible,
- 1:34:24Speaker 3: because what.
- 1:34:25Speaker 5: Do you do if you're a nickel, Like if let's
- 1:34:27Speaker 5: say there's only five.
- 1:34:30Speaker 6: I mean, I would probably say it depends on the offense.
- 1:34:32Speaker 6: And you know, we are we looking at a small,
- 1:34:34Speaker 6: quick slot receiver? Are we looking at you know, like
- 1:34:36Speaker 6: if you have Yoshivas this week and you know, bigger guy,
- 1:34:39Speaker 6: like I don't know, I would say it's more matchup base,
- 1:34:41Speaker 6: but it gets into that.
- 1:34:42Speaker 5: Guy with Loger. Sorry, yeah, I just don't know how
- 1:34:45Speaker 5: much that made perfectly.
- 1:34:46Speaker 6: I just don't know what they truly feel about Hawkins,
- 1:34:48Speaker 6: if they really believe he's a guy that can play defense,
- 1:34:50Speaker 6: or if they're kind of like he's going to be
- 1:34:52Speaker 6: a special teamer for us and he can fill in,
- 1:34:53Speaker 6: but he's not going to be part of the plan.
- 1:34:55Speaker 5: And that's what I do think you'll say more of
- 1:34:57Speaker 5: Hawkins than Marcus Jones if there's only five, but guys nailed,
- 1:35:01Speaker 5: like if he depends like this week, it's a dependent
- 1:35:03Speaker 5: it's there an eleven personnel team Cincinnati, three wide receivers
- 1:35:07Speaker 5: burrowing the gun like that's how they play offense.
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: So now it's probably gonna be a little bit more
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: traditional three corner nickel. But when you play Miami and
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: they might be a little heavier and try to run
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: the ball like. That's always a tough thing to me
- 1:35:19Speaker 3: with teams like Miami is that they like to put
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: the corners in the fit in the run game. They
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: run outside zone. They try to get outside the tackles
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: and make you fit the ball with the corners.
- 1:35:29Speaker 5: And now about that Moster touchdown run. Yeah, late late
- 1:35:32Speaker 5: in Week two last year.
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: Yeah, Like maybe that's like a little bit.
- 1:35:36Speaker 5: More nothing for that.
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: I'm just numb to it.
- 1:35:39Speaker 5: It was. It was one of those plays where it's
- 1:35:42Speaker 5: exactly the way I haven't just described. You get cornerbacks
- 1:35:45Speaker 5: in bad situations, and I think that was one of
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: the rare plays that Christian Gonzalez looked like a rookie
- 1:35:50Speaker 5: last year, that long touchdown run by.
- 1:35:52Speaker 2: So we already weighed in our key player on each
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: side of the ball for the Patriots.
- 1:35:56Speaker 3: Like for the entire season, just for this game for
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: both sides. Yeah, of the ball. Offensively, I'll go choo
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: score for. I just think Henderson Trey Hendrickson is one
- 1:36:11Speaker 3: of the best in the league in my opinion, really
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: underrated player. He's seventeen and a half sacks last year.
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: I don't feel like that gets talked about enough. And
- 1:36:19Speaker 3: you usually likes line up over the left tackle, and
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: if you're gonna have any sort of passing game success,
- 1:36:24Speaker 3: that's where it starts. In terms of the blocking. Is
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: is bocking Hendrickson defensively? I think it's gotta be Gonzalez, Like,
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: you know, you gotta have, you gotta be able to
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: take one of the receivers out relatively, Like, we're not
- 1:36:37Speaker 3: gonna shut out Jamar Chase, but you gotta take one
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: of those guys out without having to tilt the coverage
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: in their direction. If you had to tilt the coverage
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: in everybody's direction, now you're in trouble. So he's gonna
- 1:36:47Speaker 3: have to be Stefan Gilmour light Like they're gonna have
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: to be able to say, you have t Higgins this week,
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: and if he goes for a buck twenty, then fine,
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: but like, let's make it for eight catches, right, like,
- 1:36:58Speaker 3: just don't give up three big plays or something like that.
- 1:37:01Speaker 3: But you're going to be on an island against this
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: guy and it's up to you to figure it out.
- 1:37:05Speaker 5: Yeah, So what do you think if Chase doesn't play.
- 1:37:07Speaker 5: I'm just like scrolling through Twitter to see if there's
- 1:37:10Speaker 5: anything out of Cincinnati. I don't really see anything. But
- 1:37:13Speaker 5: if Chase doesn't play, does that afford you the luxury
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: of just sort of ridiculously taking Higgins out of the
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: game with multiple people and then making those other guys
- 1:37:22Speaker 5: beat you. Charlie Trent Irwin.
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: Charlie Jones, Yeah from Purdue, Yeah, ye tight end sample.
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: It's it's a good question. I I feel like they
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: should put Gonzo on T Higgins regardless, and then if
- 1:37:42Speaker 3: Chase does play, then you bracket him, tilt the coverage.
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: That's what I think. If you you drafted this guy
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: in the first round, let's not forget Yeah, so he
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: should he should match up on T Higgins. And now,
- 1:37:53Speaker 2: like you said, Evan, it frees up the defense.
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: What if Chase plays, you think he No, even.
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: If Chase doesn't play, put him on T Higgins.
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: If it doesn't play out. Yeah, absolutely, I agree with that. Yeah,
- 1:38:03Speaker 5: Like there's no one else. Why would I waste them
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: on Yeshivas.
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: No, I'm boxing Wanning T Higgins like Gonzo, you have
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: T Higgins. The other ten guys, we're gonna worry about
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: Jamar Chase, Right If Jamar Chase doesn't play, I don't
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: think it changes much. It's just now it's a little
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: bit easier for the other ten guys without Chasing there.
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: But that's the way I hope that they kind of
- 1:38:23Speaker 3: approach the entire season with some of these offenses that
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: have multiple receivers like that. I'm not sure if Gonzo
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: is quite ready to be on an island against Jamar Chase,
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: but he probably is ready to be on an island
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: against T.
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: Higgins.
- 1:38:36Speaker 3: So you know, if you have like the Eagles, you
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: know DeVante Smith a J. Brown, like maybe you know
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: he covers Davante Smith and then the attention goes to
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: AJ Brown. Yeah, you know that sort of thing.
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: Yep, And we I said, I think you agreed. I
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: don't know, just Romandre Stevenson on off that.
- 1:38:52Speaker 5: Was mine, you said, Gonzales, and I agree with.
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: You know what we said both sides of the ball.
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: I agree with Yeah, I'm a little worried about that.
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: Like me too.
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: I don't love you don't want to run them?
- 1:39:05Speaker 5: He worried me more today.
- 1:39:06Speaker 3: I don't want to run them. I don't want to
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: be one of these teams. We got to establish the run.
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: We got to come in here today and we got
- 1:39:12Speaker 3: to run it down there.
- 1:39:13Speaker 2: They kind of said, and has been saying throughout camp.
- 1:39:17Speaker 3: That worries me.
- 1:39:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, but like if he's true to what
- 1:39:21Speaker 2: he says Lee all the way up to today, ramondre
- 1:39:24Speaker 2: Stein said, better have a good game.
- 1:39:25Speaker 3: But why can't Remandre Stevenson have a good game In
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: the third and fourth quarter, like when you're playing with
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: what you.
- 1:39:30Speaker 2: Have to have a lead.
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: Yeah, but but why But I would say that you're
- 1:39:34Speaker 3: better off having the lead if you throw it early,
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: especially on first down, like if you go first and
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: ten three yard runs, second and seven three yard run.
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: Now we're in third down. Now we got to make
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: a play up.
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: We're so what's what's you know, in all fairness, what's
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: the better strategy for trying to win this game? Throwing
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: the ball and trying to get a lead or sure.
- 1:39:55Speaker 5: I think the first run game the first thing to
- 1:40:01Speaker 5: me and I.
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: But are we equipped to do the first thing?
- 1:40:03Speaker 5: Well, if you're not equipped to you're not equiped to
- 1:40:05Speaker 5: win games. That's the league. Well they're not equipped to
- 1:40:07Speaker 5: run the ball and shorten the game and win that way. Okay,
- 1:40:10Speaker 5: well my teams aren't equipped to do that. I know
- 1:40:12Speaker 5: those are the age old cliches. What's shortened the game,
- 1:40:16Speaker 5: But that's not a way to try to win on
- 1:40:19Speaker 5: a consistent basis.
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: I didn't say that consistent.
- 1:40:22Speaker 5: So I would say you know that in my in
- 1:40:24Speaker 5: my view, it's just my opinion. I think Mike and
- 1:40:27Speaker 5: Evan agree with me. Is throwing the ball on early
- 1:40:29Speaker 5: downs to try to get the lead. I think it's
- 1:40:31Speaker 5: always the goal as buildings to say, well we hunter believe,
- 1:40:35Speaker 5: but always try to get converse. The best way to
- 1:40:37Speaker 5: get a lead is by throwing the ball and scoring.
- 1:40:39Speaker 2: On no doubt. But the downside of doing that is
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: if you're three and out the first three series, now
- 1:40:45Speaker 2: you're down ten nothing before you know it.
- 1:40:47Speaker 5: Right, So why can why are you eliminating three and
- 1:40:50Speaker 5: out the first three series by running the ball?
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: Well, the hope is that you don't go three and out.
- 1:40:55Speaker 5: Just like the hope is that I'm completing the pass first.
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: Knowing this team, what's the better what's the better strategy?
- 1:41:01Speaker 5: Guys did it? We would just kumba yeah for you guys.
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: But knowing now I'm in, knowing what we've got in
- 1:41:06Speaker 2: this team, what's the best strategy.
- 1:41:09Speaker 5: I'm gonna say the same thing. I don't think they
- 1:41:11Speaker 5: ran it from here to there all summer except for
- 1:41:14Speaker 5: against the Washington Commanders.
- 1:41:15Speaker 6: Throw it to the tight ends early. I mean I
- 1:41:17Speaker 6: look at it even from the which was defensive standpoint.
- 1:41:20Speaker 5: Line, it's not that easy. They like, listen, offense is
- 1:41:23Speaker 5: going to be a problem. Yeah, I mean, I don't
- 1:41:25Speaker 5: think we're speaking out of school.
- 1:41:26Speaker 3: I would just like if I was them and Fred
- 1:41:29Speaker 3: you said this a couple of weeks ago. I believe
- 1:41:31Speaker 3: with the sixth offensive lineman, they did that a ton.
- 1:41:33Speaker 3: This the Browns did when Jacob sat started against the
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: Bengals in twenty twenty two. They played six oer linemen
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: twenty two times in that game. On offense, they put
- 1:41:42Speaker 3: six guys on the line of scrimmage. They left the
- 1:41:44Speaker 3: back end to pass protect off play action, and the
- 1:41:47Speaker 3: Bengals answered it all with single high right, they put
- 1:41:50Speaker 3: the single high safety. Nick Chubb's not gonna beat us.
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: You guys can't throw it past us. And what did
- 1:41:55Speaker 3: Jacob Weer said do he tore them up in single
- 1:41:58Speaker 3: coverage down the field off play action. I would much
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: rather them come out aggressively like that. On first down,
- 1:42:04Speaker 3: run put him under center, put him in a run formation,
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: play action, pass hunter, Henry, and let's try to hit
- 1:42:12Speaker 3: some plays down the field and get the offense moving.
- 1:42:14Speaker 3: And then once you do that, now the defense has
- 1:42:17Speaker 3: to counter. And now you can run the ball like
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: if you're trying to run the ball into seven eight
- 1:42:21Speaker 3: man boxes all the time. Because that they know that
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: you're trying to establish the run and be the tougher
- 1:42:26Speaker 3: win the line of scrimmage and all this crap like
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: then we're we're gonna score fourteen points. Like it trives
- 1:42:33Speaker 3: me nuts. It's like, what was that even faking? It's
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: exactly what I would.
- 1:42:37Speaker 6: Tell Cincinnati to do too, to take advantage, you know,
- 1:42:42Speaker 6: take advantage of the heavy New England defensive personnel and
- 1:42:45Speaker 6: throw right at him when they're gonna be you know,
- 1:42:47Speaker 6: probably more likely to be too gapping in those early
- 1:42:49Speaker 6: downs that there's not gonna be penetration.
- 1:42:51Speaker 4: He's gonna have some time. Like I just I think
- 1:42:53Speaker 4: it's a it's a favorable strategy.
- 1:42:55Speaker 3: So Jamar Chase is at practice today in uniform, So
- 1:43:00Speaker 3: oh great, there goes my upsettings for nothing.
- 1:43:02Speaker 5: Yeah, there's still still he's still not going to be
- 1:43:05Speaker 5: ready to play and he's going to pull a hamstring.
- 1:43:07Speaker 4: Has he been conditioning?
- 1:43:08Speaker 5: I don't know, I get it, get I assume he is.
- 1:43:10Speaker 5: But I do think today was the day, Like I
- 1:43:15Speaker 5: was talking to Fred likenesday, Yeah, ga, but Wednesday is
- 1:43:20Speaker 5: a day that you sort of if you haven't done
- 1:43:21Speaker 5: anything all summer, you sort of need to be involved
- 1:43:23Speaker 5: in the game plan that right, And if you're not,
- 1:43:25Speaker 5: I would have said that he wouldn't play, but now
- 1:43:27Speaker 5: I would say he's probably tracking him to play.
- 1:43:29Speaker 6: It's kind of stink if he has a great if
- 1:43:30Speaker 6: he just plays in as a great game and no
- 1:43:32Speaker 6: training camp.
- 1:43:33Speaker 4: Just you know, Waltz is in Wednesday.
- 1:43:35Speaker 5: Before we talking about something that the other thirty one
- 1:43:37Speaker 5: coaches are ready to go, right, you know what I mean,
- 1:43:40Speaker 5: like him having a great season after skipping all of
- 1:43:43Speaker 5: training camp, right right, that's not what the other thirty
- 1:43:45Speaker 5: one coaches want to see.
- 1:43:47Speaker 2: Uh Carter and Santa Clarita, California.
- 1:43:50Speaker 6: Yeah, oh yeah, beautiful ye beautiful Carver not personally I've
- 1:43:55Speaker 6: heard about him.
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: A new listener to the show, but a longtime Patriots
- 1:43:58Speaker 2: fan going back to the Tony years, and now that
- 1:44:02Speaker 2: I've discovered your show, I'll be tuning in regularly. Thank you.
- 1:44:05Speaker 2: My question is about Cole Strange. I know he's starting
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: the year on the pup list, but I've heard disparagingly
- 1:44:13Speaker 2: slash snide comments out of the corner of your mouths
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: in passing a few times his name has been brought
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: up in recent weeks. Can you fill me in on
- 1:44:22Speaker 2: the status of the recovery and what you think his
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: future is in New England. I don't know if we've
- 1:44:28Speaker 2: been we can talk about like I'll admit, but I
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: think we talked about like is there any hope but
- 1:44:36Speaker 2: maybe you could play center.
- 1:44:38Speaker 3: This year when you draft a guy in the first
- 1:44:41Speaker 3: round and you're like, well, maybe he could play a
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: different position, that's usually.
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: As long as he's good at it went from corner
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: to safety, it didn't hurt ye.
- 1:44:53Speaker 4: Back into the mix.
- 1:44:54Speaker 6: I don't know if he's gonna be able to do anything,
- 1:44:55Speaker 6: but when you're looking at a practice squad guy maybe
- 1:44:57Speaker 6: starting at left guard, I'll put Cold Strange in to
- 1:45:00Speaker 6: that mix and see if he can improve things.
- 1:45:02Speaker 4: You know, I don't know, but.
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: It's a little like Taekwon, right, Like your only hope
- 1:45:05Speaker 3: with Cold Strange is that the scheme change actually could,
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: out of anybody, probably benefit him the most. But now
- 1:45:12Speaker 3: they're running a lot of this outside zone stuff that
- 1:45:15Speaker 3: maybe he's just wasn't a fit in what they now.
- 1:45:17Speaker 3: It doesn't help him in past protection being on skates
- 1:45:20Speaker 3: all the time, Like that's got to work on that separately.
- 1:45:23Speaker 3: But maybe the scheme itself, it's just a good.
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: I mean Strange had some good games.
- 1:45:28Speaker 5: Yeah, he wasn't he wasn't always terrible, but he struggled
- 1:45:32Speaker 5: for the most part in his two seasons. Right Yeah, Now,
- 1:45:35Speaker 5: I would say to Carter, you know, I do think
- 1:45:38Speaker 5: he had his knee injuries not running the mill. It
- 1:45:42Speaker 5: was a torn pateller tendon, which is significant. He does
- 1:45:45Speaker 5: not look like he's moving great to me even now.
- 1:45:48Speaker 5: I don't know how you guys have felt watching him
- 1:45:50Speaker 5: walk around the locker room. Some of that might be
- 1:45:52Speaker 5: that just that normal athlete football like sometimes looks injured always.
- 1:45:58Speaker 5: We used to say it about Teddy Bruski always looked
- 1:46:00Speaker 5: like everything hurt all the time when he walked, and
- 1:46:02Speaker 5: he never missed games, almost never missed games. So I
- 1:46:05Speaker 5: don't know if he's how close he is to being healthy.
- 1:46:08Speaker 5: It's at least four games on PUP, so scratch off September,
- 1:46:14Speaker 5: and then how much time would he need to sort
- 1:46:16Speaker 5: of get up to game speed in October if he
- 1:46:19Speaker 5: were to be activated on the practice field before he
- 1:46:22Speaker 5: could be a legitimate option to start.
- 1:46:25Speaker 3: I just wonder when he comes back, and I know
- 1:46:26Speaker 3: we're doing a lot of un cold strained, but if
- 1:46:29Speaker 3: Leyden Robinson is decent for a rookie at least, and
- 1:46:34Speaker 3: you already have City in there, and there's a possibility
- 1:46:36Speaker 3: that on Win, who is also a factor in the
- 1:46:38Speaker 3: interior too, there just might not be a spot for him, like,
- 1:46:42Speaker 3: especially if they're playing decently well, like you only would
- 1:46:44Speaker 3: really go to that. I feel like if it's a mess,
- 1:46:47Speaker 3: which I don't think it might be, but if it's not,
- 1:46:50Speaker 3: then you're not really going to shake up the five
- 1:46:53Speaker 3: guys that are rolling just to get him back in
- 1:46:55Speaker 3: the line.
- 1:46:55Speaker 6: Of I mean, I hope City Sou can get rolling.
- 1:46:57Speaker 6: I mean that's I just I think there's still just
- 1:47:00Speaker 6: this big question marks there as there is everywhere else
- 1:47:02Speaker 6: on the line somewhere. So I say so, But sometimes,
- 1:47:06Speaker 6: Mike Reverse, you think I would get it because I'm
- 1:47:09Speaker 6: a do so, not a dousal, And I doesn't make
- 1:47:12Speaker 6: that note.
- 1:47:12Speaker 5: It's not like sexual assault. No, that's Shandler John units, big,
- 1:47:18Speaker 5: big units.
- 1:47:19Speaker 2: Carter also says the Patriots first round pick in twenty
- 1:47:22Speaker 2: twenty five has to be a tackle. I don't care
- 1:47:25Speaker 2: if the Patriots draft first overall next year. It has
- 1:47:28Speaker 2: to be a tackle. Until the offensive line is fixed,
- 1:47:31Speaker 2: nothing else will work.
- 1:47:33Speaker 4: Okay, it's a chandelier though, right, it's not.
- 1:47:35Speaker 5: It has to be a tackle, I think.
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: I think if they pick a tackle, wherever they pick,
- 1:47:40Speaker 2: he has to be a good player.
- 1:47:42Speaker 5: No, I would probably right now before the season probably
- 1:47:46Speaker 5: agree with that, Like it's probably gonna be Evans guy
- 1:47:49Speaker 5: there Will Campbell. Uh, you know, if they can't, if
- 1:47:51Speaker 5: they can get whatever makes a lot of sense. I
- 1:47:55Speaker 5: don't think you have to take.
- 1:47:56Speaker 4: A tackle may make sense to I think's a lot.
- 1:48:00Speaker 5: Of things that would make sense. This is the you know,
- 1:48:04Speaker 5: the silver lining of not being expected to be a
- 1:48:07Speaker 5: great team is you have a lot of options come
- 1:48:11Speaker 5: draft time, right.
- 1:48:12Speaker 3: Especially if you don't need a quarterback. But I think
- 1:48:15Speaker 3: it has to be a tackle. But that's how I
- 1:48:17Speaker 3: feel today. That's how I feel today. If Caden Wallace
- 1:48:19Speaker 3: ends up being a dude, then maybe changed my mind
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: six months from now. But it just seems to me
- 1:48:26Speaker 3: that protecting Drake May and keeping him up right for
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: the next decade is so much more important than anything
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: else that we could talk about. Ye and I know
- 1:48:35Speaker 3: we're going to talk about some guys on defense in
- 1:48:38Speaker 3: this draft. How we're going to talk about burden and
- 1:48:40Speaker 3: McMillan and the receivers too, but they there's two really
- 1:48:45Speaker 3: really blue chip level tackle prospects in Will Campbell and
- 1:48:48Speaker 3: Calvin Banks from Texas that are the two of the
- 1:48:52Speaker 3: the better guys that I've seen the last couple of years.
- 1:48:54Speaker 3: Like up there with like Alt and those guys, it
- 1:48:57Speaker 3: just seems like such a slam dunk, Like why would you.
- 1:48:59Speaker 4: Get this on the draft?
- 1:49:00Speaker 6: As you said, with you know, strong class with a
- 1:49:02Speaker 6: couple of tackles and as well. Yeah, it's like the
- 1:49:04Speaker 6: perfect case is like you're one or two trade down.
- 1:49:07Speaker 6: You got to first rounds, you know, and you're able
- 1:49:09Speaker 6: to get maybe wide receiver the trade down.
- 1:49:14Speaker 2: I want to live in a football world we don't
- 1:49:16Speaker 2: have to talk about offensive line anymore. Yeah, you know
- 1:49:18Speaker 2: what I mean, Like remember those days, Remember those days.
- 1:49:22Speaker 5: I'm always in that, you know, I'm always in.
- 1:49:24Speaker 2: My second favorite patriot of all time is John Hannah.
- 1:49:28Speaker 4: But did you kiss him?
- 1:49:30Speaker 2: But you didn't have to talk about line, you know,
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: like it was just it was just you could depend
- 1:49:36Speaker 2: on it. It was going to do its job every week,
- 1:49:38Speaker 2: and you can focus on the receivers and the running
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: backs and the quarterbacks and.
- 1:49:42Speaker 3: You know, you can find receivers, and you can find
- 1:49:47Speaker 3: edge guys in free agency a lot of the time,
- 1:49:49Speaker 3: or at least in the trade market with receivers, I
- 1:49:52Speaker 3: mean they get Judon as a free agent. Like those
- 1:49:54Speaker 3: guys come available. Great left tackles do not come available,
- 1:49:58Speaker 3: like you just you don't see them move very often
- 1:50:00Speaker 3: for the team to team. You got to get that
- 1:50:02Speaker 3: in the draft. Like if they get the left tackle
- 1:50:05Speaker 3: in the draft, like they can go and sign to Higgins,
- 1:50:07Speaker 3: like he's probably going to be available and they can
- 1:50:08Speaker 3: give him the most money and get him to come
- 1:50:10Speaker 3: here hopefully, and now that problem is solved too. So
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: I just that's the biggest thing to me is like
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: asset management of like how what's going to be available
- 1:50:18Speaker 3: and what's not. And the tackles don't come available.
- 1:50:21Speaker 6: They just don't such an attitude position to like I
- 1:50:23Speaker 6: think Logan Mankins was kind of an attitude guy. I mean,
- 1:50:26Speaker 6: you gut Trent Williams just his presence, Like it's just
- 1:50:29Speaker 6: they just kind of changed the whole dynamic when you
- 1:50:31Speaker 6: have those kind of you know guys Trump Brown that
- 1:50:33Speaker 6: one good Yearady had here, Like you know, just presence,
- 1:50:36Speaker 6: like if you walk on the field you know, like
- 1:50:37Speaker 6: I just haven't felt that way. Like it just feels
- 1:50:39Speaker 6: like they've been trying to scrape it together anyway they
- 1:50:41Speaker 6: can and put this guy here.
- 1:50:42Speaker 4: And I don't know, we got to put this guy
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: over here, and like so.
- 1:50:45Speaker 2: You know, when I came here, it was Bruce Armstrong.
- 1:50:48Speaker 2: He was the guy. And then they got Matt lighte Ye.
- 1:50:50Speaker 8: You know.
- 1:50:53Speaker 3: They had a great run of tackle for a while.
- 1:50:55Speaker 2: Yeah, and then they sold her who he was. Okay,
- 1:50:58Speaker 2: he had his issues, but then since then it's been
- 1:51:01Speaker 2: kind of a missmat Win.
- 1:51:03Speaker 5: Isaiah Winn was supposed to he was supposed to be
- 1:51:05Speaker 5: the fort and he didn't do it.
- 1:51:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel like Nate's Solder now. I would love
- 1:51:09Speaker 3: Nates Holder, Like, can we get an Aids Solder now?
- 1:51:12Speaker 3: Because I understand that on a team of a perfect
- 1:51:15Speaker 3: team like the twenty fourteen and twenty sixteen Patriots, Like
- 1:51:18Speaker 3: maybe he's not the best player on the roster, but
- 1:51:21Speaker 3: they would love to have an Aids Solder if right
- 1:51:23Speaker 3: about it?
- 1:51:24Speaker 2: Yep, let's see Jordan and Hawaii. I've seen other people
- 1:51:28Speaker 2: in Boston media Paul shows say that the Patriots need
- 1:51:32Speaker 2: another veteran quarterback on the roster personally, I don't see
- 1:51:36Speaker 2: any reason for that. What benefit does that give you?
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: You have a starting veteran and when Drake starts he'll
- 1:51:43Speaker 2: be there, He'll still be there. Do you think they
- 1:51:45Speaker 2: should sign another backup quarterback? If so, who, No.
- 1:51:49Speaker 3: I'm good with their quarterbacks.
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: It's good.
- 1:51:50Speaker 5: Yeah. People that want to sign a veteran are people
- 1:51:54Speaker 5: who don't want May to play as a rookie. They
- 1:51:56Speaker 5: wanted him to develop and just sit for THEE and
- 1:52:00Speaker 5: take a red shirt year. I do not I'm not
- 1:52:02Speaker 5: in that category, but if they didn't want him to play,
- 1:52:05Speaker 5: I would agree with that. You want you have to
- 1:52:07Speaker 5: get a veteran who can play.
- 1:52:09Speaker 6: I think the better question is do you think it
- 1:52:10Speaker 6: will be May and Milton next year? They try to
- 1:52:15Speaker 6: bring back somebody like Rosette too, you know, deep bring
- 1:52:19Speaker 6: back an experience.
- 1:52:19Speaker 5: Yeah, it won't be set but I think they'll be
- 1:52:21Speaker 5: in the market for a veteran backup like.
- 1:52:23Speaker 3: A Brian More Brian Hoyer. Yeah, but maybe I wouldn't
- 1:52:27Speaker 3: be surprised if they drafted another quarterback too, Like like a.
- 1:52:31Speaker 5: Good move today, you know, probably not an impact thing,
- 1:52:33Speaker 5: but like Houston resigning or extending Davis Mills. Yeah, you
- 1:52:37Speaker 5: know that to me makes sense. I don't know if
- 1:52:40Speaker 5: Joe Milton will be in a position next year even
- 1:52:43Speaker 5: to be a reliable backup. You know, he's got a
- 1:52:46Speaker 5: long way to go.
- 1:52:49Speaker 2: Let's see Marissa from Hamilton Almerio love the show. Thanks
- 1:52:53Speaker 2: for all the insight and content. As a longtime Pakers fan,
- 1:52:56Speaker 2: I've been doing my best to find moments of excitement
- 1:52:59Speaker 2: and joy these last few years. So it brought a
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: huge smile to my face when I found out this
- 1:53:05Speaker 2: morning that Danny and Mondola is going to be on
- 1:53:08Speaker 2: this season's Dancing with the Stars. Can't wait to see
- 1:53:12Speaker 2: his moves on the dance floor and whichever of his
- 1:53:15Speaker 2: Patriots buddies show up to support him in the audience.
- 1:53:19Speaker 6: I saw him dance a little bit like they had
- 1:53:21Speaker 6: like the premiere show, and I saw the clip, but
- 1:53:23Speaker 6: this is what like his second or third reality show.
- 1:53:26Speaker 6: I saw him on a look it's like a Navy
- 1:53:28Speaker 6: seal training show as well, Danny Ammendola making.
- 1:53:32Speaker 2: It's so funny. These guys just life after football and
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: what they're doing, you.
- 1:53:37Speaker 4: Know aways fashion too. He's got like all these like crazy.
- 1:53:42Speaker 3: Stay in the limelight somehow.
- 1:53:44Speaker 2: Yeah, Travis and West Virginia has a question about one
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: of our sponsors. Question he says, should it should Sullivan
- 1:53:50Speaker 2: Tyre be called Sullivan Tires. I don't think so. Sullivan
- 1:53:56Speaker 2: doesn't make the tires. They sell tires, so it's Sullivan Tire.
- 1:54:01Speaker 5: But do they sell more than one?
- 1:54:03Speaker 3: Nope?
- 1:54:05Speaker 2: No, but it's you know, it's not their tires.
- 1:54:07Speaker 4: I got a chuckle.
- 1:54:08Speaker 2: I don't know. But you know what, since football season
- 1:54:12Speaker 2: is here and Sullivan Tire and Auto Service kicks things
- 1:54:15Speaker 2: off in a big way with our exclusive Go Patriots
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: Tire sale now through October thirty first score big with
- 1:54:22Speaker 2: incredible savings on bridge Stone Tires. Save one hundred dollars
- 1:54:26Speaker 2: instantly with the purchase of four eligible bridge Stone tires.
- 1:54:30Speaker 2: Bridgeton't the official tire of the New England Patriots and
- 1:54:34Speaker 2: see Sullivantire dot com for complete details.
- 1:54:40Speaker 5: Thought, yeah, Fair Tires writing bridge Stone Tires.
- 1:54:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I would redo that copy if I was Sullivan Tire, Like,
- 1:54:50Speaker 2: is it a message for Sullivan Tire or is it
- 1:54:54Speaker 2: a message for Bridgetone time.
- 1:54:55Speaker 5: I think they're trying to promote the fact that they
- 1:54:58Speaker 5: have I know, Bridgetones.
- 1:55:00Speaker 2: But it says the official. It says Bridgestone, the official
- 1:55:02Speaker 2: tire of the New England Patriots. That's great, it's still
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: entire the official distributor of tires for the Newing Patriots.
- 1:55:09Speaker 3: No, they're probably the officials distributed of tires for Bridgestone.
- 1:55:13Speaker 2: Are they?
- 1:55:13Speaker 4: Because I get on the car guys, so yeah, he
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: would not.
- 1:55:17Speaker 2: Now I have Bridgestone tires. I have the run flat
- 1:55:19Speaker 2: Bridgetone tires, very nice and which helped me out wanting No,
- 1:55:24Speaker 2: what do you mean did the same as any other tire.
