- 2:02Speaker 4: day it was out there in the cold and the
- 2:04Speaker 4: rain and the snow yesterday collecting those turkeys from Mountain Mission,
- 2:08Speaker 4: and again just stuff. Thank you to you the greatest
- 2:10Speaker 4: listeners in the world for making it all happen. Coming

- 2:20Speaker 4: night over at the Gomart Ballpark. Talked to Ben Selango
- 2:23Speaker 4: and Andy Shay about that not everybody hates the snow. We
- 2:27Speaker 4: didn't get a whole lot here in the Kanal Valley,
- 2:29Speaker 4: but that's not the case elsewhere in West Virginia. The
- 2:32Speaker 4: ski lodges are loving it. And we're going to talk
- 2:34Speaker 4: to Joe Stevens from the West Virginia Ski Areas Association
- 2:37Speaker 4: about that. Bleasannah Gardner will be stopping by his always
- 2:39Speaker 4: on Friday with our doubt me please pedal the week
- 2:42Speaker 4: from the Canal Charleston Humane Association want to welcome in
- 2:44Speaker 4: now though Chris Lawrence, Chris, good morning, Good morning. And
- 2:47Speaker 4: Tom braggs somewhere on a sled, how are you, buddy.
- 2:52Speaker 4: I'm all right, Dave, I'm doing fine. Let's talk about
- 2:56Speaker 4: we finally got some high school football to talk about,
- 2:59Speaker 4: and it's not being played in a courtroom, it's actually
- 3:01Speaker 4: being played on a field somewhere.
- 3:02Speaker 6: Chris, I'll start with you. Yeah, as I mentioned in
- 3:04Speaker 6: the promo, court is adjourned. Let's play the game, and
- 3:08Speaker 6: they throw it up tonight in Hurricane As the Redskins
- 3:11Speaker 6: will host George Washington in the opening round game of
- 3:15Speaker 6: the High School Football Quad A Playoffs tonight. That one
- 3:18Speaker 6: to be at Redskins Stadium, kick off at seven o'clock,
- 3:21Speaker 6: so we'll have to dump out a sports line early
- 3:22Speaker 6: for our pregame show and then we'll have the play
- 3:25Speaker 6: by play for you coming up at seven o'clock. But
- 3:27Speaker 6: we also because we had a Friday night game and
- 3:30Speaker 6: we've got another local team in action, we're gonna be
- 3:32Speaker 6: able to bring you a couple of games tomorrow. Of
- 3:34Speaker 6: course Tom's game that he'll talk about momentarily, but Nitro
- 3:38Speaker 6: is in the Class TRIPA Playoffs and they will be
- 3:40Speaker 6: hosting Shady Spring tomorrow. So what we're gonna do tomorrow
- 3:44Speaker 6: is we're not gonna have a pregame show. We'll just
- 3:46Speaker 6: write a kickoff dump out of our Mountaineer coverage and
- 3:49Speaker 6: bring you Nitro in shady spring and then soon as
- 3:51Speaker 6: the game's over, we'll pop back into Mountaineer coverage tomorrow.
- 3:54Speaker 6: So that's our plan, all right, And tom where are you.
- 4:00Speaker 7: Home? I was at the grocery store.
- 4:01Speaker 4: I didn't mean where are you now? I mean, I mean,
- 4:04Speaker 4: where are you going to be tomorrow or whatever?
- 4:06Speaker 6: I don't, I don't really What did you get at
- 4:08Speaker 6: the grocery store since you brought it up? Yeah, go ahead,
- 4:10Speaker 6: you bread and milk? I mean, is that what you needed?
- 4:13Speaker 7: I mean, among other things, bread, milk, stuff to put
- 4:15Speaker 7: in the fridge. The snow complaining our weekend.
- 4:19Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah it was.
- 4:20Speaker 7: It was a weekend supply run.
- 4:22Speaker 6: As we just completely train wreck Dave's show away from him.
- 4:26Speaker 5: I can.
- 4:27Speaker 4: I can train wreck it on my own. I don't
- 4:28Speaker 4: need your help. But talk about what.
- 4:30Speaker 7: You're going to be tomorrow. Yeah, tomorrow, I'm going to
- 4:32Speaker 7: be out in Elk. You first ever home playoff game
- 4:35Speaker 7: for Herbert Hoover. They've been the home team for playoff
- 4:38Speaker 7: games before, but they've never had the facility to be
- 4:41Speaker 7: able to host a home playoff game on their campus,
- 4:43Speaker 7: so tomorrow is going to be the first time they've
- 4:44Speaker 7: ever done that. Talk with coach Joey fields this week
- 4:47Speaker 7: that whole community is fired up and ready to go.
- 4:49Speaker 7: They host Elkins. It's a rematch of a regular season
- 4:52Speaker 7: game from about a month ago. Whover won that pretty handily.
- 4:55Speaker 7: That's the game where Dane Hatfield broke the school's all
- 4:57Speaker 7: time rushing record. So it should be a good one.
- 5:00Speaker 7: The teams have seen each other before, they know each
- 5:02Speaker 7: other before. Hoops had it rolling. But you know, Cutchfield
- 5:05Speaker 7: is one of those guys. He says, he doesn't believe
- 5:07Speaker 7: in that whole You don't You don't want to play
- 5:08Speaker 7: a team twice. You don't want to see a team
- 5:10Speaker 7: for the second time in the playoffs. He said, he
- 5:12Speaker 7: thinks every game kind of tells its own story, and
- 5:14Speaker 7: he just hopes they've got a good one to write
- 5:15Speaker 7: on Saturday.
- 5:16Speaker 4: Where are we on the volleyball situation, Chris?
- 5:20Speaker 6: It will be played December second and third at West
- 5:23Speaker 6: Virginia State. The Supreme Court, for a second time this
- 5:26Speaker 6: week sided with the SSAC and indicated that they were
- 5:31Speaker 6: authorized as the governing body of high school sports, and
- 5:35Speaker 6: so the injunctions that had held up the Class single
- 5:38Speaker 6: A tournament were rejected and Tyler consolidated. The injunction came
- 5:44Speaker 6: out of Tyler County, whereas the Silver Knights had played
- 5:47Speaker 6: all season long as a Class Double A team but
- 5:50Speaker 6: felt like they should go into the playoffs as a
- 5:52Speaker 6: Class Single A team. The Supreme Court said, no, you'll
- 5:54Speaker 6: go in as what you've been all season long, as
- 5:56Speaker 6: the SSAC put it, And so they will play that
- 6:00Speaker 6: Class A tournament December second and third at West Virginia
- 6:03Speaker 6: State because obviously the venue at the Charleston Coliseum and
- 6:07Speaker 6: Convention Center will be has other things going on at
- 6:10Speaker 6: that time. So it's I mean, I know everybody still
- 6:13Speaker 6: has a lot of problems with the way things are
- 6:15Speaker 6: set up, but I think the Supreme Court made it
- 6:18Speaker 6: pretty clear that this isn't their their place to step
- 6:22Speaker 6: in here. If there are changes at the SSAC, they're
- 6:25Speaker 6: going to have to come from other places, possibly the legislature,
- 6:28Speaker 6: because that who that is who has empowered the SSAC
- 6:31Speaker 6: with the authority they have along with the Border Control
- 6:34Speaker 6: and the Board of Review.
- 6:35Speaker 4: All right, reset the broadcast schedule for us again.
- 6:38Speaker 8: Guys.
- 6:39Speaker 6: We'll be on the air tonight on five eight WCCHS
- 6:42Speaker 6: with Hurricane and George Washington rematch from a couple of
- 6:46Speaker 6: weeks ago that Hurricane won. Will be on the air
- 6:48Speaker 6: at six point thirty and the kickoff is at seven
- 6:51Speaker 6: o'clock at Redskins Stadium.
- 6:52Speaker 4: All right, and Tom for you.
- 6:55Speaker 7: Tomorrow game goes off one point thirty. We'll be on
- 6:58Speaker 7: the air probably about one thirty five one KWS and
- 7:02Speaker 7: online and all the apps and all that stuff. Tooting guys.
- 7:04Speaker 7: Should be a fun game.
- 7:05Speaker 4: And we're also going to be picking up the Nitro game.
- 7:06Speaker 6: We will. We'll be on the air at one thirty
- 7:08Speaker 6: tomorrow as well on WCCHS radio, so you can check
- 7:11Speaker 6: that out amid the Mountaineer coverage that if you want
- 7:14Speaker 6: to listen to Hobby and the guys on the Mountaineer coverage.
- 7:16Speaker 6: We'll also be simulcasting that over on ESPN and one
- 7:20Speaker 6: oh six point seven FM and fourteen ninety tomorrow.
- 7:22Speaker 4: All right, Tom, I'm gonna let you go. Chris, you
- 7:25Speaker 4: got to West Virginia outdoors tomorrow. Tom, thanks a lot
- 7:27Speaker 4: to have a great broadcast.
- 7:28Speaker 7: Buddy, Thanks for listen.
- 7:29Speaker 4: All right, he's got to get back to his chicken nuggets.
- 7:31Speaker 4: I unwing out there. Well, you don't want them to
- 7:33Speaker 4: get to get nothing soggy nights exactly. I've always said that,
- 7:36Speaker 4: UH tomorrow and West Virginia out Doors. Of course, Monday
- 7:39Speaker 4: is the opening day of bucks season in West Virginia,
- 7:42Speaker 4: and I always on the Saturday before that, bring in
- 7:44Speaker 4: a couple of guys from the Natural Resources Police and
- 7:48Speaker 4: we have a conversation about uh specifically game laws, specifically
- 7:52Speaker 4: for a dear season, because people have a lot of
- 7:55Speaker 4: questions regarding you know, what kind of license do I need?
- 7:59Speaker 6: What can I and I hunt? Do I need this
- 8:01Speaker 6: various permit? What do I do if people are trespassing?
- 8:04Speaker 6: And we'll have a couple of guys in and we'll
- 8:06Speaker 6: take calls and we'll from the public tomorrow and if
- 8:08Speaker 6: you've got any questions for the Natural Resources Police, I'll
- 8:12Speaker 6: have a couple of guys in to address those. As
- 8:14Speaker 6: buck season gets started next week, are you gonna get
- 8:16Speaker 6: to go hunting?
- 8:17Speaker 5: All right?
- 8:18Speaker 6: Well, I have a trip planned in December, so I
- 8:21Speaker 6: had to forego the opening week here to accommodate my
- 8:25Speaker 6: vacation week for that trip. Plus I've had I've had
- 8:28Speaker 6: a lot, it's been a rough year and I had
- 8:29Speaker 6: I've had to take a lot of bereavement leave, this year,
- 8:32Speaker 6: so I just have not been able to take the
- 8:35Speaker 6: time off that I've been wanting to. But I'm hoping
- 8:37Speaker 6: to catch that up in.
- 8:37Speaker 4: December, which you'll be there in Spirit in the woods.
- 8:40Speaker 6: Oh absolutely yeah. And who knows, I might get out
- 8:42Speaker 6: of here in time to get a couple of hours
- 8:43Speaker 6: in a stand, you know, one afternoon after work or
- 8:46Speaker 6: something like that.
- 8:47Speaker 4: All right, Chris, we'll be listening to Tom. Appreciate it.
- 8:49Speaker 8: Man.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Thanks, It's Chris Lawrence again talking in high school football
- 8:53Speaker 4: payoff action. It's nine to sixteen to Dave Island showing five.
- 8:55Speaker 4: Eddie Livee is brought to you apart by Pinnacle Consultants.
- 8:57Speaker 4: Poor Indoor air Quality because bunch of variety, a big
- 9:01Speaker 4: variety of health issues, allergies, respiratory problems and more. Pinnacle

- 9:08Speaker 4: industrial type settings. Visa Pinnacle Corp dot net. Because what
- 9:11Speaker 4: you don't know can hurt you. Let's bring in Hannah
- 9:13Speaker 4: Gardner now from the Canal Charleston Humaine Association with this
- 9:15Speaker 4: week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Hannah, good morning,
- 9:19Speaker 4: good morning, how are you, and a happy early Thanksgiving
- 9:23Speaker 4: you as well. I got to throw this out there
- 9:25Speaker 4: because and I forgot to ask Chris and Tom. But
- 9:28Speaker 4: with all my guests this week, I've been trying to
- 9:29Speaker 4: remember to ask him, what's your favorite part of the
- 9:31Speaker 4: Thanksgiving meal?
- 9:34Speaker 9: Well, the turkey and the mashed potatoes have to probably
- 9:38Speaker 9: be my absolute favorite. And nothing is better than mashed
- 9:41Speaker 9: potatoes and gravy.
- 9:42Speaker 4: You're exactly right, all right, all right, all right, I
- 9:44Speaker 4: get you there. All right, So we got the dog
- 9:47Speaker 4: posted as we always do, or adopt me please Pet
- 9:49Speaker 4: of the week. It's you can check it out on
- 9:51Speaker 4: my social media Dave Oland Radio and Facebook and at
- 9:54Speaker 4: Dave a seventy on Twitter. We are talking about a
- 9:58Speaker 4: dog named Gretel. Tell us a a not Gretel.
- 10:02Speaker 9: All right, Well, Gretel, she is a very very sweet girl.
- 10:06Speaker 9: She is around one year old. And of course, again
- 10:10Speaker 9: I will say every time we do go by their
- 10:13Speaker 9: gums and their teeth. If we do not know, like
- 10:16Speaker 9: exactly when they were born, if they were surrendered to
- 10:18Speaker 9: us or anything like that, then we checked their guns
- 10:20Speaker 9: in their teeth and there is like a scale range
- 10:23Speaker 9: that kind of gives you a general idea of what
- 10:25Speaker 9: their age is. So we do estimate that she is
- 10:28Speaker 9: around one year old, and I do want to mention
- 10:32Speaker 9: that she did go. She was one of the candidates
- 10:34Speaker 9: that went to Light the Night the other night, and
- 10:38Speaker 9: she got to go with a staff member of ours
- 10:40Speaker 9: and was excellent the whole time that she rode in
- 10:43Speaker 9: the car with them. They said that she had some
- 10:46Speaker 9: of the best manners. She was such a sweet girl.
- 10:50Speaker 9: I was there as well. I got to witness her
- 10:52Speaker 9: being so good. She is such a good girl. She
- 10:55Speaker 9: sits on command, and she waits very patiently for you
- 10:59Speaker 9: if she's just sitting there, and she loves, love, loves treats.
- 11:03Speaker 9: She's very food motivated, so she would do well with
- 11:06Speaker 9: some training, probably with some food motivation. But honestly, she's
- 11:11Speaker 9: such a good listener and such a good, well mannered
- 11:14Speaker 9: dog that she seems like maybe she maybe have had
- 11:17Speaker 9: some sort of training at one point or something. But
- 11:21Speaker 9: she is around thirty two pounds, so she is the
- 11:24Speaker 9: perfect size dog in my opinion. But she is a
- 11:28Speaker 9: very very good girl. I think when she was found
- 11:31Speaker 9: she was abandoned in a home for a couple of days,
- 11:33Speaker 9: and our humane officer went out and got her as
- 11:36Speaker 9: soon as I don't think it was ours. Actually it
- 11:38Speaker 9: was just a humane officer and we went out and
- 11:40Speaker 9: got her as soon as they heard, and she came
- 11:43Speaker 9: into the shelter and just has been an absolute sweet girl.
- 11:45Speaker 9: You wouldn't even know that she had been abandoned or
- 11:49Speaker 9: anything like that. She never even acts like it at all.
- 11:52Speaker 9: But she's a very very sweet girl.
- 11:54Speaker 4: And the picture that I have posted on on social
- 11:56Speaker 4: media again it's Dave Alan Radio on Facebook and at
- 11:59Speaker 4: Dave seventy on x the artists for me on to Twitter.
- 12:01Speaker 4: That picture was actually taken at the Light to Night
- 12:05Speaker 4: a couple of nights ago. So yeah, I mean absolutely
- 12:08Speaker 4: it is a beautiful doggler and check it out, all right.
- 12:10Speaker 4: How we look at number wise at the shelter this week?
- 12:12Speaker 4: Anything better to report from last week? Because I know
- 12:14Speaker 4: you were at mega mega capacity at this time last weekend.
- 12:20Speaker 9: So of course we are still pretty high capacity. I'm
- 12:25Speaker 9: not exactly sure, haven't gotten to look at the numbers
- 12:27Speaker 9: this week yet, but I do know that we are
- 12:29Speaker 9: still pretty much at the kind of the same as
- 12:32Speaker 9: what we were. I think we're still running on a
- 12:34Speaker 9: very very limited intake I think from our admissions department,
- 12:41Speaker 9: but I'm not one hundred percent sure. If you do
- 12:44Speaker 9: have any questions about that, you are always welcome to
- 12:46Speaker 9: call and seek with our admissions department if you do
- 12:49Speaker 9: find an animal. We do have resources if we cannot
- 12:52Speaker 9: take the animal, so definitely reach out to us and
- 12:55Speaker 9: we can let you know like what we can do
- 12:57Speaker 9: to help and what other resources we have to get view.
- 13:00Speaker 9: But very very very helpful things right now are of
- 13:04Speaker 9: course volunteering. We always need to help. We have so
- 13:06Speaker 9: many animals right now. Donating is always a big help.
- 13:10Speaker 9: Blee each peer in a dog chow and I pick.
- 13:12Speaker 9: I think blankets are always needed, blinkets, linen, stuff like that.
- 13:16Speaker 9: I think the pillows we don't really need so much
- 13:18Speaker 9: of because they shred them up, but the blankets and
- 13:22Speaker 9: stuff like that we always always need. So definitely spread
- 13:24Speaker 9: the word as well. That definitely helps for sure.
- 13:27Speaker 4: All Right, again, we're talking with Hannah Garden for the
- 13:28Speaker 4: Kennala Charleston Humaine Association. Before we let you go, you
- 13:31Speaker 4: mentioned that the picture that I posted of Gretel, the
- 13:34Speaker 4: dog we're trying to get adopted this week, was actually
- 13:36Speaker 4: taking it light to night. I do want to mention
- 13:38Speaker 4: that there's going to be another. They call these things
- 13:40Speaker 4: lights and leashes over the over the ballpark. The next
- 13:44Speaker 4: one is going to be on December of the twelfth,
- 13:46Speaker 4: so go ahead and make plans on stopping by that
- 13:50Speaker 4: night or any night, and you can see the animals
- 13:53Speaker 4: that they have on display. Hannah, you will get next
- 13:55Speaker 4: week off because I'm not doing a show next Friday,
- 13:58Speaker 4: but we'll talk to you the following week as a
- 14:01Speaker 4: sound all right, have a happy Thanksgiving. We'll talk here
- 14:04Speaker 4: in two weeks. Thanks a lot. You have a chop
- 14:06Speaker 4: one had a gardener from the Canal Charleston You Maine Association.
- 14:09Speaker 4: Gretel is our dog this week. One year old female
- 14:14Speaker 4: weighs around thirty two pounds. As Hannah said, that's a
- 14:16Speaker 4: pretty good sized dog, kind of in the middle somewhere,
- 14:19Speaker 4: and she was found after being in an abandoned house
- 14:22Speaker 4: for four days. She's not fixed yet, but will be
- 14:25Speaker 4: very very sweet. Girl loves other dogs, loves riding in
- 14:28Speaker 4: the car, loves treats. She can sit on command. They
- 14:32Speaker 4: say that she's absolutely just the dang near perfect dog.
- 14:36Speaker 4: And when they took her over to the light the
- 14:38Speaker 4: night over to Goimart Ballpark the other night, she had
- 14:40Speaker 4: a great time, So I got to picture posted on
- 14:42Speaker 4: my social media and Stave Island Radio, or you can
- 14:44Speaker 4: check it out on Twitter the artist formally actually it's
- 14:47Speaker 4: the artist formally known as Twitter, now known as x
- 14:50Speaker 4: and it's at Dave A seventy. If you want to
- 14:52Speaker 4: see the picture of Gretel our adopt me please. Pet

- 17:39Speaker 4: of the state, not so much here in the Canal Valley.
- 17:42Speaker 4: To me and let me welcome in Andy, Shane ben Slango,
- 17:45Speaker 4: I am not a snow lover at all. I'm not
- 17:48Speaker 4: a fan. However, the snow that we got last night.
- 17:51Speaker 4: When I woke up this morning, I looked out and
- 17:53Speaker 4: I said, man, my lawn is covered in snow. The
- 17:56Speaker 4: rooftop is covered in snow. But there was absolutely none
- 17:58Speaker 4: on the ground, none of the road. That's the kind
- 18:01Speaker 4: of snow I like.
- 18:02Speaker 12: Man, we had some on the ground, and my dogs
- 18:04Speaker 12: love it. What I don't love is after they're rolling
- 18:07Speaker 12: in the snow and then they come inside and it's
- 18:09Speaker 12: all over the house. It's my house looked like a
- 18:12Speaker 12: mud pit this warning. It was awful, but no, I
- 18:14Speaker 12: love it. I loved it more when I was younger.
- 18:16Speaker 12: As I get older, I'm.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Like, yeah, it just creates headach. I mean, and these
- 18:19Speaker 4: people that I see on social media and everybody likes
- 18:21Speaker 4: what they like. I get that, but it's like, bring
- 18:23Speaker 4: it off. Bringing I was like, you apparently don't have
- 18:25Speaker 4: to go anywhere, you know you can look at That's fine.
- 18:27Speaker 12: Let's see what they say in middle of January February.
- 18:30Speaker 4: Andy, you a snow lover.
- 18:31Speaker 8: You know what I always have been.
- 18:33Speaker 13: I love the cold, but I mean it's been a
- 18:36Speaker 13: new a new feeling with light the night. I mean,
- 18:39Speaker 13: it is ridiculously cool seeing the entire field, the entire
- 18:43Speaker 13: stadium with snow on it. And then the other thing
- 18:45Speaker 13: that's been, you know, just fascinating is the amount of
- 18:49Speaker 13: pictures and videos that we get, not from people necessarily
- 18:52Speaker 13: that are in the event or in the ballpark or
- 18:54Speaker 13: with the organization. I mean, the random pictures that we
- 18:58Speaker 13: get are so fun to watch, and so you know,
- 19:00Speaker 13: I mean, it really is beautiful.
- 19:02Speaker 4: And you had your first marriage proposal the other night.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Is that acond It was the second week last year,
- 19:07Speaker 4: first one of this year.
- 19:08Speaker 13: Oh yeah, first one and absolutely and I mean with
- 19:10Speaker 13: the perfect I mean it could not have been more perfect.
- 19:13Speaker 13: I mean they under the Merry Chistmas sign.
- 19:16Speaker 8: I mean it was you know.
- 19:17Speaker 13: And I would say the thing that is so amazing
- 19:19Speaker 13: with that is that I don't as far as I know,
- 19:21Speaker 13: I don't think we posted that sign before.
- 19:23Speaker 2: So that's what's so.
- 19:24Speaker 13: Cool that people are clearly thinking in advance, I want
- 19:28Speaker 13: to have my special lifelong memory at the ballpark, and
- 19:32Speaker 13: then when they see that sign, this is the spot.
- 19:36Speaker 4: Yeah, that's awesome. And I saw that posted on your
- 19:38Speaker 4: social media the other day and I last time you
- 19:40Speaker 4: guys were on the show, I said to you. Then
- 19:43Speaker 4: I said, mark my And of course I hadn't looked
- 19:45Speaker 4: at a long range forecast, and they're not very accurate
- 19:47Speaker 4: sometimes anyway, Sorry Brian Hughes. But but I did say
- 19:51Speaker 4: at that time, I said, when you get the first snow,
- 19:54Speaker 4: you're gonna have a lot of people. And it started
- 19:56Speaker 4: snowing here in the Canall Valley. Midday started out his
- 19:58Speaker 4: rain and the snow and then uh so was I right?
- 20:01Speaker 4: Would you have a good house? Last night?
- 20:02Speaker 13: It was solid, but not all snow is created equally,
- 20:06Speaker 13: that's true. Yeah, you said it when it starts with
- 20:08Speaker 13: rain and it's wet and in the thirties not But anyways,
- 20:13Speaker 13: as it started, honestly, as it started really getting further
- 20:16Speaker 13: away from that rain and more into the snow, that's
- 20:19Speaker 13: when the crowd started really picking up. And I think
- 20:21Speaker 13: that it'll lead into I think this weekend is going
- 20:24Speaker 13: to be really special.
- 20:25Speaker 4: But they've onland showing five adyline presented in apart by
- 20:27Speaker 4: Generations Physical Therapy nine practices all offered extended hours. So

- 20:36Speaker 4: sixty year visit generationspt dot com. And I did mention
- 20:39Speaker 4: that this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week
- 20:42Speaker 4: from the Canal Charleston Humane Association Gretel. Gretel's picture that
- 20:45Speaker 4: I have posted on my social media guys, was taking
- 20:47Speaker 4: it Light the Night a couple of nights ago when
- 20:49Speaker 4: they did the leashes. What I forgot what do you
- 20:51Speaker 4: call lease light lights and leashes?
- 20:53Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 20:54Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, so that's pretty cool.
- 20:55Speaker 8: That was a blast.
- 20:56Speaker 13: I mean, you know, we've been talking about the light
- 20:58Speaker 13: the night is for literally everyone and it definitely extends
- 21:01Speaker 13: to man's best friend. So there were some there were
- 21:04Speaker 13: a lot of dogs out there, and we're already pumped
- 21:06Speaker 13: and planning for the next one, which will be on
- 21:08Speaker 13: December twelfth.
- 21:09Speaker 4: All right, and so how does that work? I mean,
- 21:11Speaker 4: is that open? I know you had the animals from
- 21:13Speaker 4: the Animals shelter, but can anybody bring their animals those nightsolutely?
- 21:16Speaker 2: Please do?
- 21:18Speaker 4: All right? All right? So what else you got going on?
- 21:20Speaker 4: I know you guys got by the way, you guys
- 21:23Speaker 4: got to officially kick off the Christmas music across the
- 21:25Speaker 4: hall of V one hundred. I was in there for
- 21:27Speaker 4: that with Steve and Jenny. They flipped the switch at nine.
- 21:29Speaker 4: We didn't actually have a switch, but you got a bell.
- 21:32Speaker 12: We found a bell there was there was a random
- 21:34Speaker 12: bell in there, so we just we smacked that around.
- 21:36Speaker 4: You never know what you're gonna find in a radio studio,
- 21:39Speaker 4: I could tell you, but they found a bell. So
- 21:41Speaker 4: you got to be the ones the I guess the
- 21:42Speaker 4: Grand Marshals of you, if you will, of the Christmas
- 21:45Speaker 4: music on their sister station, V one hundred.
- 21:47Speaker 12: That was that was actually really cool. I didn't know
- 21:50Speaker 12: that we were going to do that until this morning
- 21:53Speaker 12: I got a call and say, hell, by the way,
- 21:54Speaker 12: you'll be flipping the switch. I was like, wow, that's uh,
- 21:58Speaker 12: that's that's an honor. So that was a lot of fun.
- 22:01Speaker 12: And you know for the Light to Night, we've we've
- 22:04Speaker 12: got Sensory Night coming up every Tuesday in December, Sinsury
- 22:08Speaker 12: Friendly Night, so you know the autistic kids, uh, even
- 22:12Speaker 12: old adults, they can come in and they'll have headphones,
- 22:16Speaker 12: they'll have all kinds of things that you can do
- 22:17Speaker 12: that so that it's you know, it's open to everyone.
- 22:20Speaker 12: So that's that's a that's a really good thing that
- 22:22Speaker 12: Andy Shay and the Dirty Birds are doing.
- 22:24Speaker 4: And what night is that again? Every Tuesday? In every
- 22:26Speaker 4: every Tuesday December. And I would think that there has
- 22:29Speaker 4: been quite a bit of demand, uh for for for
- 22:32Speaker 4: those not just at Light to Night but h but
- 22:34Speaker 4: in other activities.
- 22:35Speaker 12: Absolutely, well, you want to make an inclusive so folks
- 22:37Speaker 12: that have mobility issues, you know, you can come in.
- 22:40Speaker 12: It's it's uh, it's wheelchair accessible. I think they come
- 22:44Speaker 12: through the center field. Remember the first couple of nights
- 22:47Speaker 12: last year, Uh, we hadn't really put that out and
- 22:50Speaker 12: and one of the most frequent questions we would get
- 22:52Speaker 12: on social media, so Lange Law would be, uh, is
- 22:55Speaker 12: it accessible? And it absolutely is, and so they've done
- 22:57Speaker 12: a really good job making it even better this year.
- 23:00Speaker 12: But the people with mobility issues you can come in
- 23:03Speaker 12: as well, so feel free to bring grandma or grandpa in.
- 23:07Speaker 12: They're going to have a great time. I know Andy
- 23:08Speaker 12: opened it up. A lot of the residents of nursing
- 23:11Speaker 12: homes came in last year, which honestly was one of
- 23:13Speaker 12: the absolute joys just to stand out there and watch
- 23:17Speaker 12: them come in. You've got eighty and ninety year old
- 23:19Speaker 12: seeing this for the first time. It was really impressive.
- 23:22Speaker 12: So they've done a great job making sure that it's
- 23:25Speaker 12: open to everyone.
- 23:26Speaker 4: And will go. It's every night through Christmas except for
- 23:29Speaker 4: Christmas Night, so for Christmas, so if you want to
- 23:31Speaker 4: come out on Christmas Eve, and by the way, hats
- 23:33Speaker 4: off to those people that agree to work that on
- 23:37Speaker 4: Christmas Eve, because that's generally speaking, depending on what your
- 23:39Speaker 4: family traditions are when people get together. But there are
- 23:42Speaker 4: a lot of people that like to get out and
- 23:45Speaker 4: they like to go and look at those things, especially
- 23:47Speaker 4: if again, if you've got a little snow on the
- 23:49Speaker 4: ground Christmas music playing over to V one hundred, our
- 23:53Speaker 4: sister station for that kind of puts you in the mood.
- 23:55Speaker 8: Gas.
- 23:55Speaker 13: Oh absolutely, And you know, with I've said this a bunch,
- 23:58Speaker 13: but I mean it wholeheartedly. I mean, the staff that
- 24:01Speaker 13: installed light the night that you know, helped kind of
- 24:04Speaker 13: put everything in place, and then by all means the
- 24:06Speaker 13: ones that are operating it. I mean they're second and
- 24:09Speaker 13: none the best staff that I know of, and the
- 24:11Speaker 13: best or you know, people that want the organization in
- 24:14Speaker 13: the community to succeed.
- 24:16Speaker 8: And be happy.
- 24:17Speaker 13: I mean, and that's what you know, the best vibes
- 24:19Speaker 13: ever are at this event right now. And when it
- 24:21Speaker 13: comes to the holidays and all that stuff. I mean,
- 24:23Speaker 13: it certainly was not a demand and expectation. It was
- 24:27Speaker 13: a conversation, and I mean our staff really really wanted
- 24:31Speaker 13: to be able to put it on for all of
- 24:34Speaker 13: those days that you know, when, like you said, have
- 24:37Speaker 13: already turned into really cool family traditions. I mean, I've
- 24:40Speaker 13: talked to a bunch of people that this will be
- 24:43Speaker 13: their second Thanksgiving in a row and they want to
- 24:45Speaker 13: be able to do it forever. This will be their
- 24:47Speaker 13: second Christmas Eve that after they have family dinner or
- 24:50Speaker 13: church or whatever.
- 24:51Speaker 4: They come straight to light the night.
- 24:52Speaker 13: So I mean it really is, you know, hands on
- 24:57Speaker 13: memory making, and I think that everyone just just loves it.
- 25:01Speaker 13: I mean, you know, the atmosphere is truly second or none.
- 25:04Speaker 12: And you know, the people that are having family in
- 25:06Speaker 12: for Thanksgiving and Christmas, make sure you take him over there.
- 25:10Speaker 12: Get your tickets online. You know, I tell people spend
- 25:13Speaker 12: time in the park, don't spend time in line, So
- 25:15Speaker 12: make sure you buy them online, get them in advance.
- 25:17Speaker 12: Even if you just the general admission ticket. You just
- 25:19Speaker 12: come through and you can see everything. You can walk
- 25:22Speaker 12: through the field. They've got so many different things set
- 25:26Speaker 12: up this year. When I walked at the first time,
- 25:28Speaker 12: we Tear and I both noticed all the different things
- 25:31Speaker 12: that they had this year. So it's it's bigger. It's better.
- 25:33Speaker 12: Bring the family in from out of town, and you know,
- 25:36Speaker 12: especially the ones that have left West Virginia and then
- 25:38Speaker 12: they're coming back in and I want them to see this, yeah,
- 25:41Speaker 12: you know, because I promise you they're not going to
- 25:43Speaker 12: have something like this in their city.
- 25:44Speaker 4: Good A very good point there, Ben, Because a good
- 25:48Speaker 4: friend of mine, she and her husband moved five or
- 25:52Speaker 4: six years ago down to the Charlotte, North Carolina area
- 25:54Speaker 4: and they're bringing their young son in. And she commented
- 25:57Speaker 4: on social media, she said, bringing you know the because
- 26:00Speaker 4: the sun doesn't have a lot of memory its of
- 26:02Speaker 4: West Virginia, you know. It said, what are something we're
- 26:04Speaker 4: going to be in for the week of Thanksgiving? What
- 26:06Speaker 4: are some things we need to do? And I said
- 26:08Speaker 4: to her, I commented, I said, you need to go
- 26:10Speaker 4: to light to night, you know, because he he will
- 26:13Speaker 4: certainly enjoy it. And I know what, You're going to
- 26:15Speaker 4: get a lot of that as we have this week,
- 26:17Speaker 4: as we head toward Christmas, getting a lot more people
- 26:19Speaker 4: that are coming in from out of town.
- 26:21Speaker 12: And of course, if you know, they've got the bumper
- 26:23Speaker 12: cars this year. They didn't have that last year.
- 26:25Speaker 5: You know.
- 26:25Speaker 12: I tried to get Andy to have the bumper cars
- 26:27Speaker 12: while they were ice skaters on the ice, but he refused.
- 26:30Speaker 12: He must have a good lawyer.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Yeah, they're hard to find.
- 26:34Speaker 12: They're very, very horrified. So there are certain times set
- 26:37Speaker 12: up for the bumper cars. Those are a blast. Make
- 26:41Speaker 12: sure you're going to come in. I think they're doing
- 26:42Speaker 12: those also. They're doing like ice skating. Was it Friday
- 26:46Speaker 12: and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday I can't remember Andy,
- 26:48Speaker 12: So that where you can just come in during the
- 26:50Speaker 12: day and do ice skating, which is which is a
- 26:52Speaker 12: lot of fun.
- 26:53Speaker 13: Oh yeah, Saturday, Sunday and then I mean as we
- 26:55Speaker 13: open up and holidays, we'll definitely have more because that
- 26:58Speaker 13: was something that was one of the most asked and
- 27:01Speaker 13: kind of in demand things last year is extended ice
- 27:04Speaker 13: skating hours. I mean, because it is it's you know,
- 27:07Speaker 13: like we keep saying, it's for everyone. You don't have
- 27:09Speaker 13: to be a professional ice skater to be able to
- 27:12Speaker 13: utilize what we have. And I think that it's been
- 27:15Speaker 13: a true blast being in that atmosphere with all the
- 27:19Speaker 13: millions of lights, let alone your buddies, your family, all
- 27:22Speaker 13: that stuff. So yes, those daytime, weekend hours were a
- 27:26Speaker 13: huge emphasis for us.
- 27:27Speaker 12: And keep in mind here this is realized. It's not
- 27:29Speaker 12: the synthetic stuff. This is not the plastic that that
- 27:31Speaker 12: just spray water on. This is this is realize. They
- 27:34Speaker 12: have the generator of a freezing machine out in center field.
- 27:38Speaker 12: It's it's gigantic. So you know, when they have skates there,
- 27:42Speaker 12: you don't have to bring your own skates. What would
- 27:44Speaker 12: be really cool.
- 27:45Speaker 4: And you and Steve Bishop were over there off the air,
- 27:47Speaker 4: Andy talking about minor league baseball promotions. If you could
- 27:51Speaker 4: somehow keep that going, I don't know how you do it.
- 27:54Speaker 4: Covered a state eum in an Iglo. There's more money,
- 27:57Speaker 4: you know, and do baseball on ice.
- 27:59Speaker 13: This somesh because I obviously want to do it right
- 28:06Speaker 13: now now.
- 28:08Speaker 4: The attorney in bensi Lango just went.
- 28:12Speaker 3: It would be man.
- 28:14Speaker 8: I got all right, we gotta figure out all.
- 28:16Speaker 4: Right, Jay Silverman, guess why I.
- 28:19Speaker 12: Show just to see how this is gonna work out?
- 28:22Speaker 4: I mean some of the best. I mean last night
- 28:23Speaker 4: the Cleveland Pittsburgh game in the NFL. I mean I
- 28:26Speaker 4: did not make it for the whole game, but I
- 28:28Speaker 4: watched like the first half and they were talking about snow.
- 28:30Speaker 4: And then I get up this morning and I look
- 28:32Speaker 4: up the final score and it looks just like I mean,
- 28:34Speaker 4: had well those lake effects snowstorms in Cleveland, Uh, which
- 28:37Speaker 4: you know, the Browns won last night. I predicted the
- 28:39Speaker 4: Browns would win, and the Browns actually won last night.
- 28:41Speaker 4: So people like to watch sporting events in inclement weather.
- 28:44Speaker 4: They don't necessarily like to play in it. All right,
- 28:46Speaker 4: get your tickets early. That's the key thing. The key
- 28:49Speaker 4: takeaway anytime we have you guys on the show is
- 28:52Speaker 4: that you really do need to get those tickets early.
- 28:54Speaker 12: Absolutely. Make sure you log onto the Dirty Birds website.
- 28:57Speaker 12: What is that dB dB like that.
- 29:00Speaker 8: Night dot com.
- 29:01Speaker 13: You also have all your information if you're used to
- 29:03Speaker 13: it on Dirtybirds Baseball dot com.
- 29:05Speaker 4: All right, all right, Andy Shay, owner the Dirty Birds,
- 29:07Speaker 4: and Ben Solango Slango Law, appreciate both you guys being here. Oh,
- 29:11Speaker 4: by the way, I have been asking this of all
- 29:13Speaker 4: my guests when I remember your Thanksgiving meal, the favorite
- 29:16Speaker 4: part for you, Selango, I'm gonna go ahead and guess
- 29:19Speaker 4: what yours is, But go ahead.

- 34:26Speaker 4: I was talking to Weekly. It was on hotline yesterday.
- 34:28Speaker 4: I predicted the Browns would win that game. I really
- 34:31Speaker 4: really did, and I'm not you know, I got a
- 34:33Speaker 4: brother in law that lives in Cleveland. He's everything Cleveland related.
- 34:36Speaker 4: I got plenty of friends that are Stealer fans. But
- 34:39Speaker 4: I said last night, I just had a feeling that
- 34:41Speaker 4: the Browns are going to win that game. Maybe the
- 34:43Speaker 4: weather related or whatever, but they won.
- 34:45Speaker 8: Man, when we were kids, we love playing in snow
- 34:48Speaker 8: like a man. That was a blast, but yeah, they.
- 34:53Speaker 19: You know, I've been a Browns fan since the sixties
- 34:55Speaker 19: and enough suffered for decades, and I get it.
- 34:58Speaker 8: I get it.
- 34:59Speaker 19: I took him when Fantasy League we do pool picks
- 35:01Speaker 19: every week and Cleveland was getting three and a half
- 35:05Speaker 19: and I picked them to win.
- 35:06Speaker 4: So they won. All right, before we get into some
- 35:09Speaker 4: things Christmas re lated, do need to talk to about
- 35:11Speaker 4: some news related stuff with you? There was explain the
- 35:15Speaker 4: situation because it came out yesterday that West Virginia American
- 35:18Speaker 4: Water had, I guess put together a proposal involved in
- 35:23Speaker 4: the city Saint all which just tell.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Us the whole story.
- 35:25Speaker 8: Yeah, that is correct, to be honest with you.
- 35:30Speaker 19: They approached me probably four years ago plus interested in
- 35:35Speaker 19: buying it. We did not pursue it at any point.
- 35:39Speaker 19: I failed if I wanted to get re elected, if
- 35:41Speaker 19: I went and sold the water and sewer company, that
- 35:44Speaker 19: that wouldn't happen. But after the last election, we did
- 35:48Speaker 19: our due diligence and we were gonna let them give
- 35:51Speaker 19: us a proposal. They came down. They spent three hours
- 35:55Speaker 19: at our sewer plant, three hours at our water plant,
- 35:59Speaker 19: and came.
- 36:00Speaker 8: Up with a proposal.
- 36:02Speaker 19: We felt the proposal was relatively low and uh the
- 36:07Speaker 19: m UC board that voted unanimously five oh to reject it.
- 36:11Speaker 19: Now we'll go to council doesn't have to, but we're
- 36:14Speaker 19: gonna take it to care.
- 36:15Speaker 4: Now, what does that board explain that?
- 36:17Speaker 2: The board, the.
- 36:17Speaker 19: Municipal Utility Commission board, it is the when you become mayor,
- 36:22Speaker 19: you're automatically chairman of the board of the muc okay
- 36:26Speaker 19: and uh, then you have four other board members, two
- 36:32Speaker 19: of them from council, two from the community.
- 36:35Speaker 8: And so.
- 36:38Speaker 19: It's a board that, uh, you know, put a lot
- 36:40Speaker 19: of thought into this. And uh, but you know, the
- 36:45Speaker 19: rates on our consumers were gonna are more than double
- 36:49Speaker 19: in some cases, all.
- 36:50Speaker 8: Right, and that's something we don't want.
- 36:54Speaker 19: You know, our rates were so low, Dave, that we
- 36:57Speaker 19: had to do a minimal increase so we qualify for
- 37:00Speaker 19: grants loans. They were so low we didn't qualify for
- 37:03Speaker 19: grants and loans. But you know, there's work to be
- 37:07Speaker 19: done at our sewer plant, our water plant. We have
- 37:09Speaker 19: a ten year plan and we're in pretty good shape
- 37:13Speaker 19: to be honest with you, all right, I.
- 37:14Speaker 4: Want to go ahead and give you an opportunity to
- 37:16Speaker 4: talk about that. I also want to give you an
- 37:17Speaker 4: opportunity to talk about some Christmas related stuff right in
- 37:21Speaker 4: the City of Saint Albans I'll tell you what.
- 37:22Speaker 19: When Christmas rolls around, we are have activities going all
- 37:29Speaker 19: the time. Next Tuesday, the twenty sixth, is the walk
- 37:33Speaker 19: through for the Festival lights. People park the high school,
- 37:36Speaker 19: walk up to the park, walk through the lights, and
- 37:39Speaker 19: walk back down. Wednesday the twenty seventh is our hay
- 37:43Speaker 19: Rides through the Festival Lights, which is always a great turnout.
- 37:47Speaker 19: A lot of families come up. Then closed on Thanksgiving obviously,
- 37:55Speaker 19: then on Friday the drive through start. We don't ask
- 37:58Speaker 19: for any payment. If people want to make monetary donations
- 38:02Speaker 19: or food donations, which the food donations go to the
- 38:05Speaker 19: food Bank in Saint Albans, they're welcome to do that.
- 38:10Speaker 19: But if they have nothing, they're still welcome.
- 38:12Speaker 8: To go through.
- 38:14Speaker 19: Then the following weekend, December, the sixth Friday, we have
- 38:19Speaker 19: a Christmas Market on Old Main starting at three o'clock,
- 38:23Speaker 19: goes till eight o'clock. At six o'clock on Old Maine
- 38:27Speaker 19: is our tree lighting, and at seven o'clock the Mayor's
- 38:30Speaker 19: Christmas Concert featuring Landale You Gene Murphy. He'll be singing
- 38:35Speaker 19: at the Auburn Theater. Tickets are going fast, and I
- 38:39Speaker 19: think they're extending to a second show at nine o'clock
- 38:43Speaker 19: that night, so a lot of things happening there. And
- 38:46Speaker 19: then on Saturday is our Christmas Parade at three o'clock,
- 38:50Speaker 19: which is always a great prey. Patty Swingo, one of
- 38:53Speaker 19: our great volunteers in Saint Albans, puts it together.
- 38:57Speaker 8: And if you want to be in it, you can
- 38:59Speaker 8: get hold of patty'sw and go. And then the.
- 39:02Speaker 19: Luminaries at the Cemetery are also Saturday, December seventh.
- 39:07Speaker 4: And going back to the Christmas Parade, I will say
- 39:09Speaker 4: this that all of our stations will be taking part
- 39:12Speaker 4: in that. I think I'm representing the Mountain ninety eight
- 39:14Speaker 4: seven that day. It's just a big, big, big, big,
- 39:18Speaker 4: huge Christmas parade and everybody comes out for it.
- 39:20Speaker 8: Yeah, it really does.
- 39:21Speaker 19: It's always a great turnout, not only for people participating
- 39:25Speaker 19: in the prey, but people along the parade route, and
- 39:29Speaker 19: so you know, we look forward to it each year.
- 39:32Speaker 8: It gets a little bigger and a little better.
- 39:34Speaker 4: Indeed, great place to be during the holiday season anytime
- 39:37Speaker 4: is in Saint Albus. Go back to the Festival of
- 39:40Speaker 4: Lights again for those that are maybe listening in and
- 39:43Speaker 4: don't know exactly where that is.
- 39:45Speaker 6: Where is.
- 39:45Speaker 19: It's in City Park, Sat Aubums off Canal Terrace. You
- 39:48Speaker 19: can turn up Vine, go to the stop signed Vier
- 39:51Speaker 19: right on Valley Park and just keep going straight up
- 39:54Speaker 19: through there. You'll run right into it. We've got a
- 39:58Speaker 19: couple of new designs this year. Our guys do a
- 40:01Speaker 19: lot of the designing and making of the light displays.
- 40:06Speaker 19: Brian Morrison this year did Buddy the Elf, which is
- 40:10Speaker 19: going to be new, along with a couple other new features.
- 40:14Speaker 8: So it's exciting.
- 40:15Speaker 19: It's one of the oldest, it's the thirty sixth annual,
- 40:19Speaker 19: one of the best in the state of West Virginia.
- 40:21Speaker 19: And to be honest with you, you know what they
- 40:23Speaker 19: do over at Gomart Park. In other areas, I think
- 40:27Speaker 19: South Charleston's starting something this year up in Little Creek.
- 40:31Speaker 19: But it gives people more opportunity to get out and
- 40:34Speaker 19: just spend an evening, you know, visiting.
- 40:37Speaker 8: The different light shows. Yeah, all out in the area.
- 40:39Speaker 4: I talked to my good friend Justin Williams, who has
- 40:42Speaker 4: Valley Park over in Tains Valley, right down from where
- 40:44Speaker 4: they do, and they they've got a big event going
- 40:46Speaker 4: on there. They're all over all over the state. Before
- 40:48Speaker 4: I let you go. I want to talk about retail
- 40:50Speaker 4: in the city of Saint Albans because I saw something
- 40:53Speaker 4: the other day and I'm not going to go off
- 40:56Speaker 4: on a rant on this, but somebody posted something about
- 40:59Speaker 4: how there's no sh shopping available anywhere in the Charleston
- 41:01Speaker 4: area since the town center started suffering. I bet the
- 41:06Speaker 4: tongue on that one, because I wanted to say, have
- 41:08Speaker 4: you been to some of our municipalities in the area lately?
- 41:13Speaker 4: Have you been to downtown Charleston, for example? Have you
- 41:16Speaker 4: been to a hurricane where I live? Have you been
- 41:20Speaker 4: to Saint Albans. There's a lot, a whole heck of
- 41:23Speaker 4: a lot of shopping to be done outside the big
- 41:26Speaker 4: box stores with locally owned and operated businesses, and I
- 41:30Speaker 4: know that is certainly the case in Saint Albans.
- 41:32Speaker 8: It truly is.
- 41:33Speaker 19: We've got a ribbon cutting tomorrow on Old Main. Gentleman
- 41:37Speaker 19: purchased the building and he's going to have a dog
- 41:39Speaker 19: grooming shop, but he's also going to have a couple
- 41:42Speaker 19: other shops in there, so we're excited about that. We
- 41:47Speaker 19: got the regrand opening of L. Robi's Pezza tomorrow. We're
- 41:50Speaker 19: doing a ribbon cutting there. But our Shop's on Old
- 41:53Speaker 19: Main and our restaurant. They're unique, they're family owned. And
- 41:58Speaker 19: you know what I tell people. I know it's convenient
- 42:01Speaker 19: to get on your phone or your computer and order
- 42:04Speaker 19: off Amazon, but you know what, Amazon doesn't sponsor a
- 42:08Speaker 19: Little League team. Nope, Amazon doesn't make donations two different
- 42:12Speaker 19: callses in your community.
- 42:13Speaker 8: So guys, shop local, support your local businesses.
- 42:17Speaker 19: Unless you can't get something at all throughout this area.
- 42:22Speaker 19: You know South Ridge, my goodness, I hate going out
- 42:25Speaker 19: there halftime because it's so crowded. They've got a lot
- 42:28Speaker 19: of shopping out there. Downtown Charleston, South Charleston, Hurt and
- 42:32Speaker 19: all these communities have a lot of family owned businesses
- 42:36Speaker 19: and unique shopping experiences that can benefit everybody, all right.
- 42:41Speaker 4: Said Almends Mayor Scott James. Always a pleasure having you
- 42:44Speaker 4: up here in the Land of the Red Dragons. We'll
- 42:46Speaker 4: talk soon. Thanks a lot, appreciate it.
- 42:47Speaker 5: Thank you.

- 46:07Speaker 4: will be shackled to West Virginian America and their lacking systems. Statewide,
- 46:11Speaker 4: Saint Albans residents will now be subsidizing water and sewer
- 46:13Speaker 4: projects in all parts of the state via a much
- 46:16Speaker 4: larger rate base for systems that are currently well run stable.
- 46:19Speaker 4: This usually results in higher bills, less optimal service, and
- 46:22Speaker 4: higher shared rate increases more frequently and a higher cost
- 46:24Speaker 4: of service than under the current rate designed. Citizens would
- 46:27Speaker 4: do well to scrutinize this deal and proceed with caution,
- 46:29Speaker 4: says at Textile. Let's bring in Joe stevens Now from
- 46:32Speaker 4: the West Virginia Ski Association, a Ski areas association. Joe,
- 46:36Speaker 4: good morning, welcome to the show.
- 46:38Speaker 5: Good morning, David. Then do you wake up in the
- 46:40Speaker 5: middle in the morning just reciting all your copy that
- 46:44Speaker 5: you read before or after coming out of the breaks
- 46:46Speaker 5: and everything? I mean, my goodness, you don't breathe no.
- 46:49Speaker 4: Well, you know, it's sell them. It's all about the money, man,
- 46:52Speaker 4: It's all about the money. It's all about the money.
- 46:55Speaker 4: And speaking of which, that's a great segue for an
- 46:57Speaker 4: old radio guy like yourself to come into is because Joe, well,
- 47:00Speaker 4: when we had the snow, and we didn't have a
- 47:02Speaker 4: whole lot here in the Kanal Valley perfect snow. As
- 47:04Speaker 4: I said with Slango and Shay earlier, I really liked
- 47:06Speaker 4: it because it looked pretty but it didn't impact roads
- 47:08Speaker 4: or travel. But however, other parts of the state, especially
- 47:10Speaker 4: in ski areas, they got hit pretty hard, which is
- 47:12Speaker 4: pretty pretty good for the ski industry.
- 47:16Speaker 5: Talk about it, oh, without a doubt. And what it
- 47:18Speaker 5: really does is it creates top of mine of that
- 47:22Speaker 5: winter is right around the corner. It's not here already.
- 47:24Speaker 5: And like you said, like here in the Metro Valley
- 47:27Speaker 5: area we got a dusting. I'm looking at my office
- 47:29Speaker 5: in Nitro right now, I'm seeing snow and the bushes
- 47:32Speaker 5: and everything. And it gets people to thinking, wow, they
- 47:34Speaker 5: got this much here than what did the mountains get.
- 47:37Speaker 5: And they get some ringing the phones at all the
- 47:39Speaker 5: resorts from Winter Place in Raleigh County, Snowshoe and Pocahontas County,
- 47:44Speaker 5: and then Timberline and Canane over in Tucker County and
- 47:48Speaker 5: the various other places that we have. But it gets
- 47:51Speaker 5: people thinking. The reports that I got this morning calling
- 47:53Speaker 5: around was got about three to four. In beck League,
- 47:56Speaker 5: I got four or five and Snowshoe and up to
- 47:59Speaker 5: up in the main valley area got about six inches.
- 48:02Speaker 5: And David, again, that's really good news. And like you said,
- 48:06Speaker 5: we didn't get much. But I tell you what, hats
- 48:08Speaker 5: off to Doh because I saw that on the interstate
- 48:11Speaker 5: in ONEI sixty four between Scott Depot and Nikro here
- 48:15Speaker 5: they were staging, they were pre trading and everything. And
- 48:18Speaker 5: up in the up in Pocahontas County and Canaane where
- 48:21Speaker 5: they got most of the snow and eating down in Beckley.
- 48:25Speaker 5: All the reports I got where the roads were really
- 48:28Speaker 5: in good shape, and we find that to be the
- 48:30Speaker 5: case throughout the season. We have a motto with the
- 48:33Speaker 5: Doh we rather have the snow on the hill than
- 48:36Speaker 5: on the roads, and they take good care of that.
- 48:38Speaker 5: So yeah, we're in pretty good shape. But like I
- 48:41Speaker 5: was telling you on the by email, we do have
- 48:45Speaker 5: skiing today in West Virginia as the cross Country Touring
- 48:51Speaker 5: Center White Grass Touring Center in Tucker County is open
- 48:54Speaker 5: and there's people out on the fifty kilometers of trails
- 48:58Speaker 5: right now having some fun.
- 49:00Speaker 4: Talk about the impact of the ski industry to West Virginia.
- 49:03Speaker 4: We talk about tourism. We know whitewater rafting is a
- 49:06Speaker 4: big part of it. We know the hat Fil McCoy Trail,
- 49:08Speaker 4: We know just overall hiking and sight seeing is big.
- 49:11Speaker 4: But talk about the skiing aspect of it.
- 49:14Speaker 5: Well, when you think of the economic impact for tourism
- 49:17Speaker 5: across West Virginia, it's almost like lego blocks. Whitewater is
- 49:21Speaker 5: one block. Ski industry is another block, mountain biking, fishing, hunting,
- 49:25Speaker 5: et cetera. And it all creates a really cool castle
- 49:28Speaker 5: of opportunity when it comes to economic impact for the
- 49:32Speaker 5: ski industry. When we're up and running, especially around the
- 49:35Speaker 5: holiday period and everything, and we remember our season usually
- 49:37Speaker 5: goes from the latter part of November to the beginning
- 49:40Speaker 5: of April, it's about a quarter of a billion dollar
- 49:44Speaker 5: impact to the industry. And that's not only money, you know,
- 49:47Speaker 5: being going into the resorts and everything, but that's the
- 49:50Speaker 5: folks coming in from Columbus, Ohio to stop in Parkersburg
- 49:53Speaker 5: for gas and be heading over over to Canaane Valley,
- 49:57Speaker 5: or coming up from Virginia Beach and stopping in in
- 50:00Speaker 5: White Sulfur springs for gas before they're heading over to
- 50:02Speaker 5: snowshoe and and that sort of thing. So it's a
- 50:06Speaker 5: trickle down across the board effect. And we're talking about,
- 50:09Speaker 5: you know, somewhere in the neighborhood of five thousand employees
- 50:12Speaker 5: when we're all when it's all said and done. But
- 50:14Speaker 5: right now, we got snow in the mountains.
- 50:16Speaker 4: All right, enjoy it. You're gonna get to go up
- 50:18Speaker 4: there any yourself, because I know you're like me. You
- 50:20Speaker 4: have about five or six different jobs. So are you
- 50:22Speaker 4: going to get to go up anytime soon?
- 50:25Speaker 11: No.
- 50:25Speaker 5: I'm gonna put the Nitro High School hat on tomorrow
- 50:28Speaker 5: and I work with the communications class over at Nitrol
- 50:33Speaker 5: High School and we will be doing the streaming of
- 50:36Speaker 5: the playoff game between Nitro and Shady Spring. It's a
- 50:39Speaker 5: student run operation. They bring an old dog like me
- 50:42Speaker 5: in there. Maybe I can teach them a few things.
- 50:46Speaker 5: But that's where we'll be tomorrow. It's really great though,
- 50:49Speaker 5: that a lot of the high school teams throughout the
- 50:52Speaker 5: Kanaal Metro Valley area are in the playoffs now, and
- 50:55Speaker 5: thank goodness we are playing football and not playing court.
- 51:01Speaker 5: All I got to say about that.
- 51:02Speaker 4: Good way to leave it, Joe, we'll talk again soon.
- 51:04Speaker 3: Man.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Thanks a lot, go cowboy.
- 51:08Speaker 4: Yeah, good luck with that. Joe Stevens from the West

- 51:20Speaker 4: says the text. Washington, Sorry, I'm a realist. Makes my
- 51:24Speaker 4: friend Tony the Taylor pretty happy. But yeah, Washington sorry.
