- 0:00Speaker 1: Back with Gino on the Women's Basketball Coaches Show on
- 0:02Speaker 1: this Wednesday night ahead of Yukon and Marquette. They're coming
- 0:05Speaker 1: up at eight o'clock with Mike and Wayne. Third place
- 0:08Speaker 1: on the line. In that game, you mentioned Ice. She
- 0:11Speaker 1: made her return of the lineup on Sunday. Hit a
- 0:14Speaker 1: big three to end the half show, so got a
- 0:16Speaker 1: nice offensive rebound for a reverse in the first half,
- 0:20Speaker 1: made a couple of nice passes. I mean, you raved
- 0:22Speaker 1: about her post game, and it just seems like that
- 0:25Speaker 1: confidence breed success. As you said, that's all about what
- 0:28Speaker 1: she does, and when she's that confident, like we saw
- 0:31Speaker 1: in the Big East Tournament last year, you're going to
- 0:32Speaker 1: get production from her. And that's what you got on Sunday.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Oh yeah, one hundred percent. I think the thing with
- 0:38Speaker 2: Ice is one I think she's in her conditioning. She's
- 0:42Speaker 2: in the best shape she's been since she's been at Connecticut,
- 0:45Speaker 2: So I think that allows her to move better, to
- 0:50Speaker 2: get from place to place quicker. That's given her a
- 0:53Speaker 2: certain comfort level. And during the time she was away,
- 0:56Speaker 2: she worked really really hard on her conditioning and on
- 1:01Speaker 2: you know, when she was able to before she could play.
- 1:04Speaker 2: She just has spent a lot of time shooting the ball,
- 1:06Speaker 2: a lot of time shooting the ball, and she seems
- 1:09Speaker 2: to be, you know, as confident as she was last
- 1:12Speaker 2: year in the tournament. Because if we can get that
- 1:15Speaker 2: Ice to be like that, then obviously, you know, we
- 1:19Speaker 2: have a different team if we have Ice being the
- 1:23Speaker 2: way she was last year, if we have a healthy
- 1:25Speaker 2: Aubrey ready to contribute. Wow, you know that poof that
- 1:30Speaker 2: gives us a pretty good eight or nine that we're
- 1:32Speaker 2: comfortable with.
- 1:33Speaker 1: You know, yeah, did you see the three pointer coming
- 1:36Speaker 1: from the top of the kedah in the half? I'm
- 1:38Speaker 1: sure that's not how it was drawn up.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Well, you know, in that particular, that particular scenario, two
- 1:43Speaker 2: things are going to happen. You know, either Page is
- 1:45Speaker 2: going to get one or the guy guardian is going
- 1:48Speaker 2: to get one. So the guy that switched the guy
- 1:52Speaker 2: that screened for and you know, I'm not surprised Page
- 1:56Speaker 2: through at the Ice and I'm thrilled that Ice took
- 1:59Speaker 2: it with confidence. Yep. And again, if that's something that
- 2:05Speaker 2: we could count on once or twice a game, let
- 2:07Speaker 2: me forget it. You know. Now, now every lineup we
- 2:10Speaker 2: have out there is going to have a big guy
- 2:12Speaker 2: that's a three point shooter. Wow, that's always.
- 2:15Speaker 1: The problem to have for sure. Yeah, you know, what
- 2:17Speaker 1: do is your thought big picture on Caitlyn's play this year?
- 2:20Speaker 1: Have you gotten everything that you hoped from her? And
- 2:23Speaker 1: her track record? And seems like in the postseason has
- 2:25Speaker 1: been pretty good too.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, no, I tell her all the time,
- 2:29Speaker 2: you know that, you know, we lost we lost Nica
- 2:33Speaker 2: to graduation. And I do think, you know, having a
- 2:38Speaker 2: fifth year guard who has a lot of experience, you know,
- 2:42Speaker 2: I think Ash and KK both benefited from nikam Page
- 2:48Speaker 2: being out there with them, you know, pretty much for
- 2:50Speaker 2: forty minutes. And I think that they benefited from someone
- 2:56Speaker 2: like someone like Nika who've been in a lot of
- 2:59Speaker 2: different situations those two have not been in so being
- 3:02Speaker 2: able to replace someone like Nica and still have you know,
- 3:08Speaker 2: actually more scoring than Nika. I gave you. I knew
- 3:12Speaker 2: what we were getting, you know, I knew what we
- 3:14Speaker 2: were getting. She surprised me, and that she's a much
- 3:17Speaker 2: better three point shooter than I thought then she was
- 3:19Speaker 2: advertised to me.
- 3:20Speaker 1: And she's worked hard at it, that's for sure, really.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Really really worked hard at So I'm anxious to see
- 3:27Speaker 2: how the postseason goes with her this weekend. But you know,
- 3:31Speaker 2: knocking when she's a terrific free throw shooter. M hm,
- 3:35Speaker 2: you know, hopefully we can get her to the free
- 3:37Speaker 2: throw line more. KK is a terrific free throw shooter.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Ashy Shade is a good free throw shooter. Page is
- 3:42Speaker 2: a good free throw shooter. Asy Fudd is a good
- 3:46Speaker 2: The only problem is they never get fouled. So I
- 3:48Speaker 2: asked her one day, I said, what's the point, what's
- 3:51Speaker 2: you know? I would, I would understand if you guys
- 3:54Speaker 2: are horrible three point free throw shooters and you were
- 3:57Speaker 2: afraid to go to the line, say, you guys are
- 3:59Speaker 2: great free throw shoot but you don't get fouled. So
- 4:04Speaker 2: that's our next point of emphasis. You know, you know,
- 4:07Speaker 2: let's get to the free throw line more. You know,
- 4:09Speaker 2: it's one thing to get foul and you're you know,
- 4:11Speaker 2: get foul on purpose because you're a bad free throw shooter.
- 4:15Speaker 2: But nobody wants to foul our guys because they're good
- 4:17Speaker 2: at it. We just got to put ourselves in position
- 4:20Speaker 2: to get to the free throw line more.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, Page and KK have been the most
- 4:24Speaker 1: consistent doing that of your guards. Ash seems like she's
- 4:27Speaker 1: doing a little more of that now, although I think
- 4:29Speaker 1: I was stuck with the creating game. She missed back
- 4:31Speaker 1: to back free throws, which is unheard of for her.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And then of course easy and I mean this is easy.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Is probably your best one on one player driving to
- 4:41Speaker 1: the basket, according to what I've heard from both you
- 4:43Speaker 1: and CD many times, Yes, she probably is.
- 4:47Speaker 2: She probably is. We need a foul, or we need
- 4:51Speaker 2: an n one, or we need you to kick it
- 4:53Speaker 2: out for an open three. We can't come out of
- 4:56Speaker 2: there with a block shot. We can't come out of
- 4:59Speaker 2: there were nothing. That's why I harp on all the
- 5:03Speaker 2: time with these guys, you know. And Ash drives in
- 5:07Speaker 2: there to pass and that doesn't work. Or she'll pull
- 5:10Speaker 2: up and take that little ten to fifteen foot of us,
- 5:14Speaker 2: which is fine. She's like automatic with that. Page goes
- 5:17Speaker 2: in there and she's got to do, you know, her
- 5:19Speaker 2: cheerleading thing with the ball, you know, you know, sis boombah,
- 5:24Speaker 2: you know, and then comes out of there with her
- 5:26Speaker 2: and nothing happens, you know. And so I'm on her
- 5:30Speaker 2: about go in there and put your head down and
- 5:32Speaker 2: run somebody over. Make the ref have to decide. Is
- 5:35Speaker 2: that a charge or is that a block? Right? Right?
- 5:38Speaker 2: And Asy's powerful, she's strong, so I'm always surprised when
- 5:43Speaker 2: she doesn't finish around the basket and Caitlyn gets in
- 5:46Speaker 2: there and she's she's probably better at maybe because she
- 5:50Speaker 2: did that a lot at Princeton. I don't know, but
- 5:52Speaker 2: she's pretty good at getting into the basket and then
- 5:55Speaker 2: finding somebody with a little bounce pass or she's she
- 6:00Speaker 2: gets it off quickly and is able to So we
- 6:03Speaker 2: got all different types of attackers, which is good because
- 6:07Speaker 2: I thought for a while there we were turning into
- 6:09Speaker 2: just strictly a jump shooting team, right, And I don't
- 6:12Speaker 2: know that you can, you know, really really count on
- 6:15Speaker 2: that every single night.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Correct, All right. Final segment with Gino, we'll talk a
- 6:19Speaker 1: little hockey because of course his relationship with cav and
- 6:23Speaker 1: that's coming up here as a women's basketball coach. The
- 6:26Speaker 1: show continues at a moment here Onlearfield
