- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter thirty, Abiding Fruit from the True Vine by Andrew Murray.
- 0:06Speaker 1: This librivus recording is in the public domain recording by
- 0:10Speaker 1: Phil Snyder, Abiding Fruit. I chose you and appointed you
- 0:16Speaker 1: that ye should go and bear fruit, and that your
- 0:19Speaker 1: fruit should abide John fifteen sixteen. There are some fruits
- 0:25Speaker 1: that will not keep. One sort of pears or apples
- 0:29Speaker 1: must be used at once. Another sort can be kept
- 0:33Speaker 1: over till next year. So there is in Christian work
- 0:37Speaker 1: some fruit that does not last. There may be much
- 0:41Speaker 1: that pleases and edifies, and yet there is no permanent
- 0:44Speaker 1: impression made on the power of the world or the
- 0:47Speaker 1: state of the Church. On the other hand, there is
- 0:51Speaker 1: work that leaves its mark for generations or for eternity.
- 0:56Speaker 1: In it, the power of God makes itself lastingly felt.
- 1:00Speaker 1: It is the fruit of which Paul speaks when he
- 1:03Speaker 1: describes the two styles of ministry. My preaching was not
- 1:07Speaker 1: in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstrations of the
- 1:10Speaker 1: spirit and of power. That your faith should not stand
- 1:14Speaker 1: in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
- 1:17Speaker 1: The more of man with his wisdom and power, the
- 1:20Speaker 1: less of stability, the more of God's spirit, the more
- 1:24Speaker 1: of faith standing in God's power. Fruit reveals the nature
- 1:29Speaker 1: of the tree from which it comes. What is the
- 1:32Speaker 1: secret of bearing fruit that abides? The answer is simple.
- 1:36Speaker 1: It is as our life abides in Christ, as we
- 1:39Speaker 1: abide in Him, that the fruit we bear will abide.
- 1:43Speaker 1: The more we allow all that is of human will
- 1:47Speaker 1: and effort to be cut down and cleansed away by
- 1:50Speaker 1: the Divine Husbandman, the more intensely our being withdraws itself
- 1:55Speaker 1: from the outward that God may work in us by
- 1:57Speaker 1: his spirit. That is, the more we abide in Christ,
- 2:02Speaker 1: the more will our fruit abide. What a blessed thought.
- 2:07Speaker 1: He chose you and appointed you to bear fruit, and
- 2:11Speaker 1: that your fruit should abide. He never meant one of
- 2:14Speaker 1: his branches to bring forth fruit that should not abide.
- 2:18Speaker 1: The deeper I enter into the purpose of this his
- 2:21Speaker 1: electing grace, the surer my confidence will become that I
- 2:25Speaker 1: can bring forth fruit to eternal life for myself and others.
- 2:31Speaker 1: The deeper I enter into this purpose of His electing love,
- 2:35Speaker 1: the more I will realize what the link is between
- 2:38Speaker 1: the purpose from eternity and the fruit to eternity. The
- 2:42Speaker 1: abiding in Him, the purpose is his, he will carry
- 2:46Speaker 1: it out The fruit is his, He will bring it forth.
- 2:50Speaker 1: The abiding is his, he will maintain it. Let every
- 2:55Speaker 1: one who professes to be a Christian worker pause, ask
- 2:59Speaker 1: whether you are leaving your mark for eternity on those
- 3:02Speaker 1: around you. It is not your preaching or teaching, your
- 3:06Speaker 1: strength of will or power to influence that will secure this.
- 3:10Speaker 1: All depends on having your life full of God and
- 3:13Speaker 1: His power, And that again depends upon your living the
- 3:17Speaker 1: truly branchlike life of abiding, very close and unbroken fellowship
- 3:23Speaker 1: with Christ. It is the branch that abides in Him
- 3:27Speaker 1: that brings forth much fruit, fruit that will abide. Blessed Lord,
- 3:33Speaker 1: reveal to my soul. I pray THEE that thou hast
- 3:36Speaker 1: chosen me to bear much fruit. Let this be my
- 3:41Speaker 1: confidence that thy purpose can be realized. Thou didst choose me.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Let this be my power to forsake everything and give
- 3:51Speaker 1: myself to THEE. Thou wilt thyself perfect what thou hast begun.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Draw me so to dwell in the love and the
- 4:00Speaker 1: certainty of that eternal purpose, that the power of eternity
- 4:04Speaker 1: may possess me, and the fruit I bear may abide,
- 4:09Speaker 1: that ye may bear fruit. O, my heavenly vine. It
- 4:14Speaker 1: is beginning to dawn upon my soul that fruit, more fruit,
- 4:19Speaker 1: much fruit, abiding fruit is the one thing thou hast
- 4:23Speaker 1: to give me, and the one thing as a branch
- 4:26Speaker 1: I have to give thee Here I am blessed. Lord,
- 4:30Speaker 1: work out thy purpose in me. Let me bear much fruit,
- 4:35Speaker 1: abiding fruit to thy glory. End of Chapter thirty
