Scholarship Withdrawn Over DEI Policy | Durham News
A $1 million scholarship at UNC Wilmington, funded by a Black family, is being pulled because the university can no longer guarantee funds go to students committed to the African American community — a direct result of a new UNC system policy banning DEI programs. Linda Upperman Smith, the family’s representative, plans to move the money to Howard University, her father’s alma mater, warning that without advocacy, education will suffer.
