Till next month. [upbeat music] Hey, everybody.
• 0:19
It's that show you've been waiting for, Full Spectrum Cycling number 325. Dun, dun, dun. The last time you'll have to hear us for at least a month. [laughs] Tony's here today- There he is...
• 0:35
with his, uh, with his Ride Like a Pirate Full Moon Beach Ride. It is moony. It is full moony out there. It is nearly full. Wasn't it last night? Yeah.
• 0:43
Gotta thank Tara for that design, if she lis- I know she doesn't listen to the show, but Tara did that design. But it's a good design. The plus- That-... the plus and minus of the full- That's JK over there...
• 0:52
the plus and minus of the full moon. It's got- It's in the- You get like-... it's in the zone. Yeah, you get five to seven days on either side of it. We got, uh, peanut gallery Dan and peanut gallery Jess over there.
• 1:03
Hello. They're just kinda sitting and hanging out. Yeah, take a picture of them so that everybody knows they were here. Uh, they've been on the show before. You could check in with them. They're cycling aficionados.
• 1:16
They ride bikes more than I ride bikes. Now that Dan got a car, I don't know how much they actually even ride their bikes anymore. [laughs] They probably never do anymore, do you?
• 1:22
I take my, I take m- I take my bike for a drive every so often. Yeah, put it in the, put it in there, and then ride it on the sand, and then take it home. You guys are brutal. Yeah. Just everybody relax.
• 1:31
[laughs] We all get along. Times are hard right now. Oh, boy. Hi, hidey-hidey-hi. Hey, who went to that... You didn't go to the Fright Street Festival for all the- I was not able to. I-... metal noises...
• 1:41
I was obligated. That was a heck of a day. That was. That was, that was a good, that was a good bit. I was El Rongo. And, and as much as you and James are on the outs, he did a really good job keeping it rolling.
• 1:51
I was surprised. Good. I was actually [laughs] pleasantly surprised that everything went as smoothly as it did, and sounded as good as it did. Yeah. El Rongo sounded as good as I've heard them sound, I think.
• 2:04
Uh, apart from the Sabbatic Richie- Yeah, yeah... when Richie was- Yeah... in the- I mean, but the-... ones and zeros of that one... but again, they always bury his vocals, and they were right there. It was good.
• 2:13
Yeah, that was a good day. It started out as being, uh... Hey, it's... Well, it was, it was kind of a tweed ride. I had my tweed chapeau with me.
• 2:21
We just- Yeah, we- We didn't, we didn't make it down to- We went, we made it as far as Nomad on our way to [laughs] to, to, to the tweed ride, 'cause it was, like, warm. Yeah, exactly.
• 2:31
Yeah, it was definitely toasty on Saturday. Yeah. I know. That's not a day to wear a tweed. I had the tweed, I had the tweed, I had the tweed hat. Definitely not. Brought it with. Did you guys go tweedin'?
• 2:38
Nope, Dan and Jess didn't go tweedin' either.
• 2:41
I just kinda think, like, if you don't have the outfit and you don't have the three-speed bike that you torture yourself on, you're really not a tweeter and- Well, I think there was a penny-farthing on it- I had a-...
• 2:51
so I think- I had an-... they were just kinda cooking down the- I had a bunch of-... down the path from South Shore- Oh... to Grant and Seven Bridges.
• 2:57
I, can you imagine riding that thing up, like, the Juneau Street hill, a penny-farthing? Uh, somebody did. A couple, uh, uh- That's-... Santa Rampages ago. That's s- that's strengthening of the legs right there.
• 3:08
From- Do, uh- It was from lakefront- Do-... and made it to, um, Great Lakes Distillery. Should we- I was riding with them... should we flashback- Wow, I was surprised.
• 3:16
It wasn't one, like- It was a, it was a reconstructed one. It's not like the one that I have- It was good... that I got from Chewy that has actually a brake on it. A brake. Yeah. And it also- But-...
• 3:24
has a coastie thing, so you don't have to keep pedaling... flat... Yeah, flashback to the- And it throws, it throws you off the bike... the guy that did the Riverwest 24 that year on a unicycle,
• 3:33
who did not have any of those things and had legs as big as my waist. I thought you were gonna say something else, but [laughs]- They ne- [laughs] Yeah, no, I'm not. [laughs] Um, but yeah, the guy was, like- Tiny legs...
• 3:47
a machine. [sings] And on a, not a penny-farthing. He went one step further. One step beyond. Beyond. [sings] Oh, that's a great song. Right on. So yeah, good, good Fright Street Festival.
• 4:03
Next year if you're in Milwaukee, that's something you ought to check out. Good, good photography on you. You have- Oh, yeah. Thanks [laughs] And, and, uh, it was- Saw that- I wanted to- My, my flip-off picture...
• 4:12
I wanted to do better, but I didn't bring a decent camera, so I just used the phone. But it was, you know, it's all about how you, uh, you- Frame it... frame the stuff. Yes.
• 4:20
Yeah, you kinda belittled people last week about taking bad pictures, now didn't you? Who did I belittle last week? 'Cause not everyone's a good- Whoever listened... taker of pictures. Yeah. Well, me.
• 4:32
[laughs] I'm a terrible taker of pictures. I'm just- I mean, take one right now, it's gonna be horrible. It's gonna be one of these, I guarantee. Probably. [laughs] Uh- I re- I reme- It wasn't, though...
• 4:41
I do recall that one year- Would you please put the finger back up?... where you were not, um- Oh, here's something I learned...
• 4:47
you were not gonna be in attendance for the Jungle Cross, and you're like, "Well, take pictures." Yeah. And I'm like, "Son of a bitch." [laughs] All right.
• 4:55
It's gonna be dark, and I'm gonna take pictures of my- And Greg's gonna hate it... fucking potato... Yeah, potato phone. Like, here's a blur here. Well, Jungle Cross- Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah... is hard to do.
• 5:02
That's- Yeah, it's terribly hard to do... kinda so dark down there. Unless you're eating fried chicken. And then, then you showed up. Mm. And then fried chicken.
• 5:07
And then I, and then I was off the hook, and I just hung out with Bill and played music. It was awesome. [laughs] So th- even, uh, so th- [laughs] Oh, one better come up. See you, darling.
• 5:16
I do wanna point out this poster right here. See you, darling. Right there. Kerne, Kerne Cross in Kerne Park, which is well over three blocks from where we are right now. Oh, it's like three and a half. They...
• 5:29
Right, so they had- You could roll a bowling ball- They had the planning thing-... down the alley and hit it... and this is, what is it? November 8th. It's a Saturday.
• 5:36
It's actually part of the Wisconsin Cyclocross Series or whatever they call that thing. You- it's a USA Cycling event. No wonder it's... I'll get to the stupid part in a minute. [laughs] You mean- Um-...
• 5:47
the stupid part- I'm not saying people shouldn't-... is not having to replace all the components on your bike after you do it, 'cause they're covered in crap?
• 5:52
No, you're just gonna, y- you'll just tear up the grass, and it won't get full of stuff. Oh, okay. It's not a true Jungle Cross. It's just- I hate this sport... it's just a Kerne Park cross. I hate this sport, so go on.
• 6:02
So I'm at Amorphic- [laughs] I'm at Amorphic last night, or the night before. Well, it was somewhere in the not too distant past, and there's all these people in the back room. Oh, they're planning something.
• 6:13
There's like 20 people back there- [clears throat]... and they're planning this Kern Park Cross. I'm like, "Really?" I know at least five of them. It's like a five-hour event.
• 6:21
How many people do you have doing the River West 24 planning? Is it 20? Jessica, is- I think, oh, maybe 10... no, not that many, right? For an event that's 24 hours and- Let me guess...
• 6:32
many thousands of people, and this is like- This is like 65, right? I, I, w- I don't know. What do you mean 65? What are you saying? 65 people planning this event. I don't know.
• 6:40
I, it was at least 20, which I thought was a lot. For one four-hour event. Yeah, I thought that was a lot. I agree. I, what are they all talking about?
• 6:48
Well, they gotta plant the grassy- And they are back there for, well, three hours and several beers, and then you talk a lot, I guess. But- Porta potties are important. Porta potties are important. I, I agree 100%.
• 6:56
[laughs] That could be a band name. I just, I don't know. I think about how the River West 24 planning committee- I'm always there... does so much with basically a few people.
• 7:04
O- obviously they have to go out and do their job and get more people involved, but I don't know, just seemed like a lot. And- I'm always there to make them smell better...
• 7:12
and also cyclo-cross racing for all ages and skill levels starting at $28. That's for one... You're out there for like f- Well, it's 428 'cause you're spending $400 on your Groubo after you destroy it. Ugh.
• 7:25
Cyclo-grass thing. And $3,000 on your bike- Yeah, yeah... so it's light enough so you can carry it up the stairs or whatever. Yeah. I don't know. We are, we are bad today. I don't know.
• 7:33
Cyclo- Like, no, and then you put, you have to- Cyclo-cross is just-... you have to put in the stakes and then you put the little things on it...
• 7:37
cyclo-cross is for- The, the, the duck, it goes back and forth and forth and back and forth- Okay... and forth and forth and back. And then you wait for the, the cool guy to come over and bunny hop the obstacle. Yeah.
• 7:46
And you go, "No, that's mandatory dismount." And then you go, "No." I'm having flashbacks- I could, I could bunny hop it and I won't. I'm having flashbacks to the guy that, um,
• 7:55
did the cyclo-cross event on his big dummy, and his caption was, "My big dummy made me do it." Uh.
• 8:02
And there's pictures of him, like, literally hitting a log and he's, like, jumping off it to pull his big dummy over, but he does it. Nice. And I'm like, "All right, that's cool."
• 8:11
I, so I, I got, I, in the olden times before this- Ah, there's more... before 1978 or whenever mountain bikes were kinda sorta invented, I get cyclo-cross.
• 8:21
You're road racing all year on your fancy bike with your 20 millimeter tires and getting caught in every crack, and suddenly you can ride this bike with a little bit bigger tires, and you can ride in s- kind of mucky weather 'cause it's getting kinda wintery.
• 8:33
I get that. But once they invented mountain bikes- What's the point?... why are you doing this anymore? [laughs] Right? [laughs] Well- Agreed. Agreed. All right. All right...
• 8:40
that's just so you can get your big legs and still do your, uh, road bike looking stuff, I guess. I got big legs.
• 8:45
So anyway, that's probably something you wanna do if, uh, if you're in the area and you're into the torture of cyclo-cross. Better yet- There it is... if you're into the- There's a squirrel picking up a bike...
• 8:54
it's a great poster. Very good artwork. If, if you- I'll be, I'll be on the, uh, basketball court heckling. If you're into the- That's normally how-... torture of doing it-... that's the only way to play it...
• 9:01
on a fixed gear bike, f- fixiecross, which is even- I'll be in my cups... a nuttier idea. I'll be in my cups. Yeah, you will. [laughs] I'll be in, I'll, I'll be in your cup too. Uh, hey.
• 9:11
There's something called- Hey, hey, hey, I gotta, I gotta push a button over here. Okay. Okay. Welcome to the radio program caller. Who do we have on the line? Hey, guys, it's Heely Dave. Oh, heck yeah- Hey...
• 9:24
Heely Dave. Welcome to the show. Hey, hey. The, the quasi last show. Yeah, the last one. Not the exact last show- Kind of... since we're going [laughs] we're going to monthly for this particular e- edition of this show.
• 9:38
How are things up in the Northwoods? Yeah. I'm at River's Eatery. It's Liz's birthday. She ordered a Danish layer cake from O&H Bakery in Racine and had it shipped up here- Oh. Wow Wow... with dry ice. [laughs] Wow.
• 9:54
So I'm gonna... Yeah. I'm sorry, which flavor? That's her big birthday present. Danish layer cake. Is, is it a cheesecake or- According to the Danish bakery and- Oh, dude. What? What's that?
• 10:05
Is it a cheesecake or is it a, a McCringle? No, no, it's like kind of a white, it's a white cake with I think it's got like a, uh, I think it's got like a raspberry mousse- Mm. Oh... in between- Ah...
• 10:18
each layer or something like that. I, I was, I, I was spoiled by O&H's- Yeah, anyway... uh, key lime cringle. Oh. Every time I eat here, O&H, I usually- Yummy... get key lime cringle. Well- What's it-...
• 10:27
you know, the whole Racine, the whole Racine bakery thing, there's, there's O&H, there's Larsen's, and there's Benson's, and, like, there's, there's tribes for each one. [laughs] So- Correct. Yeah...
• 10:38
um, Liz, Liz's family was in O&H. I, I'm a Larsen's person. Um- But you guys still get along? [laughs] We're cool. Wow, crazy. Yeah, yeah.
• 10:51
[laughs] It's not, it's not quite like a Packers- It's like Hatfields and McCoys... a Packers, you know, Bears marriage or something like that. It's like oil- It's fully different... and water kinda. Oil and water.
• 10:59
Capulets and Montagues. It's still bakery. [laughs] If, if it comes in the door, it's still bakery. Right on. There you go. [laughs] Yeah. Hey, before- Yeah, so, uh, yeah...
• 11:09
well, before I forget- Nothing too much bike related going on up here. No? I just ended the Tour de Schwam again, but that's- Yeah. Schwam again. How many, uh, how many people were on that Tour de Schwami?
• 11:19
Uh, we had, like, 32 paying guests, and then Wheel and Sprocket, who own the event, um, they, they saved a few extra spots to reward some of their employees, and they brought some of their employees who just got to participate- Mm-hmm...
• 11:35
in the event. So yeah, we had great weather. Um, a really good crew of people, uh, uh, on, on this route, so, uh, this year, so it, it went really well. All went really well. Does, uh, does Wheel- But...
• 11:47
  and Sprocket still- No...
• 11:48
like, help a, a few people from, like, maybe a, a, a different community that doesn't get, uh, exposed to cycling as much, where they bring some people up there so they can experience the Northwoods on a bike?
• 12:04
Um, well, I mean, it, you can do that with the Tour de Schwarmageddon.
• 12:10
You can, you know, you can just sign up and, and for the listeners that don't know, it's a three-day guided bikepacking tour where we sort of, like, take the, the difficult parts out of bikepacking.
• 12:23
So you've gotta haul all your own gear. Um, some people rent from me if they don't have everything, 'cause I have that bikepacking gear lending library.
• 12:31
And then, um, when you sh- there's, there's ride guides, there's a sag vehicle, and when you get to camp we provide all the food, and there's a giant cooler full of beer and old fashions on the first Friday night.
• 12:43
Um- Ooh... so, so it's sort of like it, if you wanna go bikepacking but you're like, "Ah, cooking all my food and all that," you know, we handle all the stuff that pe- and what if I break down?
• 12:55
Pe- we handle all the stuff that people- Gourmet bike camping... don't like. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah, it's glamour camping. Yeah, well it's- Glam- Glamour glam-... glam camping... glam bike camping...
• 13:03
it's like bike, bike glamping. Right. Biking, go ahead. Bike glamping or something. Yeah. Yeah.
• 13:07
So you, what, th- well, when I talked to you last on the phone a couple days ago you were getting ready to smoke a bunch of meat. How much meat did you smoke? Yes.
• 13:15
Um, I smoked, I smoked 30 pounds of meat for the Schwarmageddon Mountain Bike Festival staff party, and I smoked another 10 pounds of bacon- Oh... for the Tour de Schwarmageddon. Oh. And then- 10 pounds of bacon...
• 13:30
I had a grease fire. Then I had a grease fire in my smoker. Oh. [laughs] Oh, no. I'm not used to... I'm just not used to smoking that much, you know, so I didn't think about like, oh shit, I, I should clean it out.
• 13:44
[laughs] You know, I clean it out like every week or two, you know, but, but I didn't think about it. Like, in two days I smoked 40 pounds of meat in a little smoker. Mm. And then when I got- That could be trouble...
• 13:54
the bacon off it, like, it, it kinda started a fire. [laughs] I assume- Did you cook anything on the fire? I just kept it closed. Bacon fire. It, it's a- Bacon grease fire...
• 14:02
fire inside a big metal can Yeah, it was- And it's fine... it was outside the house- That's where the smoke went... I assume, right? It wasn't a- It was a delicious smelling fire, I would bet. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 14:09
It's outside. Right? So. [laughs] And it's inside the smoker, which is what it's designed for, but it wasn't wood burning, it was grease. [laughs] Right on. Grease burning fire.
• 14:19
So I don't know if, uh, I don't know if you've, uh, heard of this yet, Sealy Dave, um, uh, Omnium, your dog-carrying cargo bike and whatnot. Yeah.
• 14:31
They're closing their US office and warehouse, and going forward all Omnium products are going to be shipped, if they d- get shipped at all, from Europe to the US. There will be no more- Oh, no... Omniums- Oh, come on...
• 14:43
in the United States 'Merica as, at least as a- Those are so cool You think that's, is this a tariff thing? Oh, absolutely. Is this a tariff? I, I would read the whole- Tariffs? Oh. They're helping us.
• 14:53
I would read the whole thing. It, it's in part obviously tariffs, because they're unpredictable and they don't know what's going on. And- Right... so they're- Why the hell not?
• 15:01
They're, they're, they're also doing it partly, I think, because they're selling every one they can make in Europe anyway. Oh.
• 15:11
So I, what I- 'Cause like, 'cause like they could quickly sell everything in Europe, but they ship X number over to the US- And wait... and then- Yeah... those usually sell pretty quick.
• 15:21
But, um- Right, and, and I, so- But there's added cost. There's added cost. Now there's even more added cost. Well, and they'll, they'll still ship them. And so why not just sell them all in Europe? Ridiculous.
• 15:30
We're still a dealer. They didn't kick us out as being dealers, and there's going to be some deal where we can get them. That's bullshit. But I would- Just realized...
• 15:36
anticipate them to be approximately 50% more than they were. Oh. We will, we will find out. Well, I'm very glad I got one then.
• 15:43
Well, including shipping, and here's the deal, the day before this announcement- You sold it... I sold that electric Mini Max I had to a guy in Austin. [laughs] Right, yeah. I'm like, "Son of a bitch."
• 15:55
I would've- You could have made, like, two grand more... totally would... Well, not only that, I would've kept it, because I really love that bike. Just kept it for yourself. Well, I wanted to- Yeah. Right. Yeah...
• 16:02
get an acoustic one, but now I can't. Oh. Well, I guess I can, but it's gonna cost a bunch more and I just, I'm so bummed, because we worked pretty hard here for the last couple years to get the bikes known- Oh...
• 16:12
and, you know? I can at least help you feel a little bit better, Greg. Oh yeah, To- Tony's got something to show. Dave, you can't see this, but, uh, I did... This is my, uh, Mini Max replacement Tony's showing.
• 16:24
It is the State Bicycle cycle truck front end for your, uh, whatever bike you have. Oh, the, they've got a front fork thing like that? Yeah, with the, it's got the wheel and the disc brake- Oh...
• 16:34
and it's, uh, you know, you got any, any basic mountain bike type vehicle that has a 490 axle to crown this is gonna work great on. And it's retail with- Oh, well, that's nice, but I have- It's not a Mini Max, I get it.
• 16:48
But it's, uh- Yeah... it's something. [laughs] It's cute. I, I'd, I'd have to get a lot smaller dog for it. [laughs] Oh, yeah. [laughs] Well, I think, uh, uh, Dan and Jess are in the house today.
• 17:00
I think their dogs would fit on the front fine. They both, both their dogs would ride on that. You could put a basket up there and they could both fit in there.
• 17:06
[laughs] Well, it's Liz's birthday and I think a cake is coming out pretty soon. Right on. So I'm gonna let you guys go, but I just wanna call in for your last show. Oh, I appreciate that.
• 17:17
We'll, we'll catch up soon, Dave. Or, or, well, the almost pseudo last show. Yeah, yeah. Well, that's usually- Well, we'll catch up soon. You're, we'll, we'll be with you. All right. I'll say happy birthday to Liz.
• 17:25
All right. Yeah. Happy birthday. Happy birthday. We'll do- Mrs. President See you. All right. All right, we're out of here. See you guys. Bye. Bye. [bell ringing] Sealy Dave, everybody.
• 17:36
Oh, we didn't get to the top bill of the Sealy Dave, but we'll get there on our own. Yeah, which is, uh, fortuitous because my beer is now empty. It's all but empty. I, I already have one here pushed to the side for you.
• 17:45
Well, look at you, Donny on the Spotty. Ah. Everybody crack them. [can opening] I am having myself a Sam Adams. This is one of my favorite beers. I, uh, full-heartedly- It is-... agree with that... Three Floyds.
• 17:58
This is a great beer. I was- Even better if you find it on tap... if I could get AI to go back through all 325 episodes quickly and go What was the number one beer that we had on our shows as, as a show beer?
• 18:12
I w- I would say this is in the one to three spot for sure. Yes. I went back as far as the site allowed me to. [laughs] Well, I was almost a good- And I was like- I almost got those raisins wet...
• 18:26
and I'm like, "Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun." I'm like, "Okay, I'm not catching it." And I didn't have the time or energy. I was like, "I just wanna grab something way from the way back machine."
• 18:35
[clears throat] This is a way back fantastic beer. And it was not... I mean, w- a- anything I was coming up with, even in the show notes, I was like, "Oh shit. Oh shit." I'm like, "Da, da, da, da, da."
• 18:45
'Cause I think show notes only go- went to 200 and something, something. Oh, I don't know what happened. I, maybe I, I, I might have- It purged a bit...
• 18:52
because we were close to running out of words on that one Google Doc- Mm... I thought I saved it and started a new one at some point. [laughs] But I don't know. Whatever it was, and then- I haven't looked in weeks...
• 19:01
I, I don't know. I, well, I ha- I had to go outside and move the van because I don't wanna get a parking ticket on campus.
• 19:08
So in moving the van, I went to Total Wine and got lost in the, uh, in the stacks like a- Hyperbole... at a li- Oh... at a library. [laughs] Up there at Bay Shore? [laughs] I'm just like, "Ooh, look at..." Yeah, yeah.
• 19:18
It's like, uh, what's his face? Uh, stoned Stan Smith in, uh, American Dad when he's standing in the snack aisle. [laughs] All wasted like- Oh... "Oh, I don't know what to do yet." So this is- So I was gonna look.
• 19:32
I was looking at everything else. La Fine Du Monde, that fittingly would've been fun- Yep... but it also locks in at 9%. Uh-huh. Ooh. And I didn't wanna just kneecap everybody. Right. This one's a 6.5er. Exactly.
• 19:45
And it is the Undead Pale Ale from Three Floyds, as previously mentioned. And it was a- With all the awesome artwork and- Yeah. And a wedding beer... they just make a great beer. And a wedding beer.
• 19:56
Oh, it was a wedding beer. Yeah. Mm-hmm. I was just like, "Oh, yes." To bring that all together. Mm-hmm. It's all producing, really. It's kinda, you know, to- That's, that's producing...
• 20:04
to, to bring the whole podcast not ending ending thing together- [clears throat]... JK was married and single prior to the start of this podcast. Now he's married.
• 20:15
That's how much time- That's, there's a lot of stuff that's happened since-... COVID happened... 2017 we started the show. COVID happened. Yep. In the bike shop.
• 20:21
I remember doing a shop where I was in the basement- The, the-... on my camera. I think it's- Oh, yeah... show three is on the site is the first one on the site. Okay.
• 20:29
We may have done like a- And it was muddy, muddy sounded... we may have done a bobbly one. Yeah.
• 20:34
Well, and I think even like the first three is like, "Oh, here's the impromptu let's see if this is working kind of podcast." I don't remember- And it was funny. I was like- I don't remember when I got the Gizmotron.
• 20:43
There's the original Gizmotron out there. Well, actually, I had... Whatever. I had a whole big setup before. Before we could just do it with the little schmiggy schmack, like that, we had the- Oh, yeah.
• 20:52
You had the stack... big thing like that. Now we're just getting nostalgic. I still have that. I'm gonna set it up as the nostalgia studio in case people don't wanna use modern technology. Ooh. Right. Who does?
• 21:01
They wanna go full analog. I'm nostalgic about conversations I- Who does? Full analog. No digital. I want a cassette. That's cool. Can I record to a cassette for my podcast? Yes, in your basement. A dat.
• 21:10
A dat's a- That's totally possible... a dat tape. Digital audio tape. I have dats, man. Why you calling it- I love my dats... why you calling it dat? Yeah. 'Cause you don't have to say- What's up with dat?...
• 21:18
a dat tape. It- Hey... because you already have tape in the- I gotta tell you guys. I got a, I got a message... in the dat... right here.
• 21:23
Abigail Wright is reaching out from the approval department for a $55,000 approval on my loan- Oh my God... which I did not ask for. Well- Abigail calls from like eight phone numbers a day. Sh- I love Abigail. Yeah.
• 21:38
Way better than Ron. That guy's a dick. Oh, God. I hate that guy. Did we shout out to Steve yet? Esteban Terpana. Yes. We've gotta shout out to Steve or he won't give us a thumbs up on our show.
• 21:53
I gave him a pair of club ride knickers today. I heard about that. 'Cause he's kind of a knicker guy. I'm not really- He said he's gonna add me to his Only Fans page and send me pictures. Ugh.
• 22:02
It's called, it's called toe show, bro. Oh, toe show bro. [laughs] Oh, he doesn't sit on cupcakes? [laughs] He smashes them with his toes? Oh, smashing with toes. Yeah. I could kinda sort of- [laughs] No.
• 22:14
Not getting into it. I'm having a sip of this just to shut- I'm starting an Only Fans page... shut me up while you guys talk. [laughs] Right.
• 22:21
Well, uh, my cousins should be coming into town for the Packer game in November. And- Is that throw ball? Yes. Hand day. Um, but- Hand day... very much, uh, deadhead. And- Oh, that, that cousin.
• 22:39
Yeah. And it's like, "No, no, no." I mean, yes. I mean, you, you're gonna be in town. You gotta go and do the Green Bay, [clears throat] uh, thing.
• 22:50
I mean, they have tickets and whatever, and they're like, "Hey, you guys should get tickets too." And I'm like, [laughs] "No." I mean, yeah, but it, it- I would rather not. Well, I would if I- Well, if they pay for it.
• 22:59
Well, yeah. But, or if they were in the realm of rationality in terms of price point. Every time I just passively look- Depends on who they're playing How much are they?
• 23:10
I mean, passively look- Eh, like 200, 250- Yeah, fuck that... couple of hundred for-... to 300. No. No. I'm like, "Dude, I can pa- I can spend it in so many other ways." I can watch that on TV. So many better other ways.
• 23:19
And let's- You mean way better show on TV. I'm not saying you're wrong. But my, my cousins will go up there, and I remember doing this like a couple decades ago where it's like, no, you go tailgate.
• 23:30
People- And then go home... the people that were going to the game go to the game. We go to the bar, watch the game- Go, what are you two, Johnny two times? Go to the game. Go to the game. I, I actually really agree.
• 23:39
I- I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go get the paper. Get the paper... yeah, I applaud this, this decision. And yeah, so... But hopefully I can drag him down here and then, uh, get the full River West deadhead-
• 23:51
Yeah, you gotta go over to, uh, Truman's or what's that someplace called? Thurman's. Thurman's? Thurman's. Tur- Truman's, Thurman's, whatever the place is called. Oh, I just stopped in and saw the Sam Tunder.
• 23:59
Oh, that's right. He's there now, isn't he? Or more, more always there. BMX Sam. Yes. BMX Sam, the Sam Tunder. No wa- no wa- Not, not strongman Sam, who's also in wrestling. No, no longer Nomad Sam either, so- Yeah...
• 24:09
that's good. Yeah. Hey, Sam Uh... And I said, "Get on the damn show," except we're putting the show to bed. But- Or whatever the next iteration is. Well, we'll have him on a different show.
• 24:18
It's like a Christmas- We're not stopping. We're just- No, I think it's- Yeah, we're changing... Milwaukee show. He's a Milwaukee guy. He can be on a Milwaukee show. It's a caterpillar turning into Christmas.
• 24:25
So we- We're gonna be a beautiful butterfly. This is gonna be a new- Beautiful butterfly... it'll be a new segment on the new show. It's called Sauna Talk with Tony. [laughs] Don't do it, man.
• 24:35
[laughs] I don't want blasting Tony. Okay, I guess. Please, please tell us about your sauna, 'cause you are... I love my sauna. And explain what it is, and we'll have to throw a picture up. It's round.
• 24:46
It looks like a hobbit sauna. Um, it is a... It, yeah, it's a- It's a hole in the ground... barrel sauna. Not any kind of hole. They call it, they call it a barrel sauna. Okay. Not a normal hole.
• 24:55
Um, I- This was a hobbit hole. Barrel riders were when they got out of the thing, obviously. Or up the street from my, the bar up the street from my house, but- That's what it's called... um... Sauna.
• 25:07
Wow, we're just throwing this in here. Sauna. But I will tell you, I, a couple of things. We're going for it, man. We're going for it. We are. Um- It's in the show notes. If he would've read the show notes- Oh...
• 25:14
it's directly [laughs] in there. I can't because it's not on my regular show notes anymore. Yes, it is. Oh, okay then. Um, the only thing better than using it was building it. It was so much fun to make.
• 25:27
Um, after some trials and tribulations, as they say, um, I can get it up to just shy of 200. Oof. That's hot. Yeah, that's, that's with... And now since it's seasoned finally, so it's a, you know- Yeah...
• 25:42
it's a cedar barrel. Right. And you've gotta run a series of sessions through it to make it expanding and contract. So it gets all sweaty up in there.
• 25:50
And, and I initially could get it up to, like, 170 with 30% humidity 'cause the staves aren't together, like, haven't... Now I can get it to [laughs]...
• 26:07
And you don't wanna be there when this happens. No, I'm not going in there. I, I like it, but, um, it gets to, like, 1- No, it seems like a punishment sauna... 198, 198 degrees with, like, 60% humidity.
• 26:20
That seems like d- a death wish to me. It's not. It's fucking fantastic. Wait till you, wait till you do that, and then you- Now, 198 is too much. James Bond- 185-... killed people that way... 185 is really nice.
• 26:32
And you know when it's gonna be even nicer? When there's snow on the ground. Exactly. When you can shock your heart into stopping- When it's winter... when you jump in there. [laughs] He...
• 26:41
None of us as cyclists- Roll around in the snow... none of us as cyclists are gonna shock ourselves. You know, that's what unhealthy people are gonna do, and they're not gonna get in a sauna in the first place.
• 26:55
Yeah, that's probably a good call. I mean, the, the deal is, it, it is a therapy situation. Um, versus a hot tub, it makes way more sense. Yeah. Hot tubs are- Um-... communicable disease- It is... Yeah...
• 27:06
you know, transmission devices. Watching- But they're awesome though... I, I will tell you this. They are awesome. I gotta tell you a s- I agree. I love a hot tub.
• 27:12
I'll tell you a story about this in California- I'm just saying-... after we're done with this sauna thing... but standing- The, the Deadhead, the Deadhead family- You know... has one in- No, okay, okay...
• 27:18
Northern Virginia, which is awesome. S- sitting in my sauna and watching my, like, like, the sweat just start on my body is r- really... And no phone. Another reason I'm not going in a sauna.
• 27:28
[laughs] No phone, no speakers, just, like, sitting there and enjoying the moment. Sweat. Why don't you start a side hustle installing saunas for people because you're- God, it was so much fun...
• 27:38
'cause you love building them. You build them. It was so much fun to build. You can charge thousands of dollars, I'm sure. I mean, the thing was what? Three grand? Uh, m- m- The, the kit.
• 27:48
I remember y- Said and done, I'm into it for about 3,700, including electric and everything. But it came on, like, a pallet, and you had to- Yeah, it was absolutely beautiful... stack everything. Yeah.
• 27:55
It was so much fun. Yeah, it was... I mean, it was a cool process. And mine is cedar. Like- Oh, cedar... going to Home, Home, Home Depot- Makes your life easier. Do-do-do-do... Home Depot sells a pine sauna.
• 28:05
That would be a jingle, folks. I can't imagine what a- No... pine sauna is like. What is it? A, is it a pressure-treated pine s- Right, and then- And then you got a bunch of chemicals in there and stuff.
• 28:14
Smells like- How do you it out? Yeah, then you smell like gin all day. Right? Everyone goes like, "Hey." Right? [laughs] "Good Lord, he a son of a bitch." You know, "Hey there, Drunky," coming into work like that.
• 28:22
Drunky McDrunkenstein. I- I- are there any e-bikers in the room? Hmm. Uh, half of the 35 of uh- I am the, I am the e. So if you are a Moab fan out there in Utah- Ooh...
• 28:37
guess what you can ride class one e-bikes on now. Many of your most famous- Those... trails in- Wow... uh, Moab. I'm just wondering if- I hope you bring an extra battery though- I'm just-...
• 28:49
'cause there's a lot of mileage there... I'm just wondering if people don't know those trails, if they're gonna be going so fast, they're like [whistles]. Do you have a way to recharge it solarly? That's Darwinism.
• 28:59
Solarly. So- Solarly. No. Oh, solarly. I mean, yes you do, but it would take a really long time. I want my solarly new bike computer, but it hasn't arrived yet. Oh.
• 29:10
The, uh, Coros, uh- That's what I know about e- Wait- Thanks to Dave Schlabowski for telling me about that Coros Dura... you got your fingerprint bike lock? [laughs] Is it working? I don't use this finger though.
• 29:23
[laughs] No. I was using this one. You used the thumb? Well, okay, so what... So I did, yes, I did set it up, but when I set it up, I didn't have the rubber sleeve on the outside. Oh, Lord.
• 29:32
So I used my thumb all over it. Docking. But now I gotta be kinda like, "Meep, meep." I gotta get it just right, but it's pretty badass. Docking. Mine has been giving me some grief.
• 29:41
I'd start- I'm just telling serious customers- Start smacking... This is m- Um, I, it, I can... It unlocks, but it doesn't unlock. It reads it, it gives me the green lights, it does not unlock. Huh.
• 29:52
[laughs] Gives me the green lights. I would call them. I would give them a- Oh, yeah. I mean, they're gonna get a review on this thing whether they want it or not. I mean, we did get them for a really good deal, so.
• 29:59
I'm, I'm going to email them. Yeah, I know. Well, a really good deal was still 80 bucks. [laughs] I mean... Shh. Sorry. [laughs] Oh, but you did not- It was something really expensive for a fucking bike lock.
• 30:08
No one, no one knows how the bike industry works as far as how much stuff costs. Speaking of the $80, did... You did not win the $80- Mm-hmm Abus on the MSC auction- No...
• 30:19
which was a random thing that they had in the auction I will tell you this, I take pride in building it to the 85- Okay. W- when I look- 'Cause I bid 75 and waited...
• 30:27
it was, it was 20, or it was 20 minutes before the end of it- That it was like- And the only r- the only reason I knew that is 'cause I was moving the damn van and I had MSC on, and it was a Dr. Sushi, your favorite man.
• 30:41
Yeah. [laughs] I wouldn't know. And he, and he's like, "Well, there's 20 minutes left." And I'm like, "Oh, shit. I, I didn't realize that." And I'm like, "Oh, yo, let me take a look at some of this stuff."
• 30:51
No, it, it didn't get bid up until the very end. Oh, yeah, 'cause at, at 20 minutes in- I'm not sure what it's actually worth. About that It's worth 150 bucks. Okay. Eh.
• 31:00
Yeah, but I mean, they're- And it looked like it was- Very good bikes... I mean, it's a great lock. I just wasn't- It looked like it was- I got to 75-... in packaging... I got, it was brand new in packaging. Yeah.
• 31:07
I got to 75. I'm like, "If someone outbids me, then WMSC gets a good deal." Yeah. You're one of those bidder-up people. I do. Yeah. Don't do it on my artwork, though. Well, then we have to talk before we do that. Yeah.
• 31:17
Otherwise, I will. See all the, see all the MSC artwork everywhere? 'Cause I love my WMSC artwork, too [laughs] and, and I will bid it up if I like it. Yeah. Uh- Von Mons... but yeah.
• 31:27
So we were talking electric bikes just a second ago, right? Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Aventon, you know, they're a fairly popular brand. They have an app. One of the big dogs.
• 31:37
They have an app for their bikes that you can... It's kinda like a Strava or something that you can use on your e-bike.
• 31:45
Uh, in August, which was, I think, the month where they rode the most, and this is only Aventon riders who actually log, which I would say is about 3% of them, or, I dunno, 10%. I don't think everybody uses the app.
• 31:58
20,000 miles? 2.1 million miles in August. Wow. So they, they did this. There's a thing.
• 32:06
If you go to their website, there's this whole thing about if you drove your very efficient Toyota Corolla that far, it would cost you $193,000 just in gas.
• 32:18
Plus, there's, how many [laughs] how many cars would you have to buy to go that far? Okay. Now- I dunno... now I have, now I have to laugh about our goofy first automatic ever, Molly and I. Oh, that's right.
• 32:29
I, I, I put fuel in it the other day, and guess what my MPG was? 153. 175. I am pretty close. Well, I mean, since you only drive in the city- [laughs]... and you're only using electric.
• 32:41
I also got an email that I have to get my oil changed in nine and a half months. God, this is good. It's good beer. I got my oil changed, uh, actually yesterday. Nine and a half months prior?
• 32:54
Well, it was a little foggy about when I got it last, but I, I'm pretty good about that. I need a new serpentine belt, and I didn't feel like dicking around with it, so- Mm-hmm...
• 33:05
I paid the fine folks over at Habegger to do it. Right. They're good people. I'm waiting for- Yeah. And, and, you know- I'm wait, I'm waiting for the right time to ask the boy, "Hey, let me just buy the parts."
• 33:15
"Yeah, you do this job." And da, da, da, da, da. Yeah. I mean, it- And then you can come over for dinner, boy. Is that the, is that the giant? Yeah. Yeah. Oh man, I could see him working on a serpentine belt.
• 33:26
[laughs] 6'5". Yeah, 6'5". And nearly 6'5" wide. [laughs] He's just a big human being. Very, very nice, too, by the way, but, but- Yeah. He was a little too nice for security. He just had the size for security. Yeah.
• 33:41
Yeah. He's like, "All right. Just- And, and then-... let me just get in your way." And then Meg made him mad, and he got all like, "I gotta just kill people." [laughs] It happens. But yeah.
• 33:51
I still see her now and again, by the way. Mm-hmm. And her love of The Cheesecake Factory. Oh my God. That was the funniest thing- I love that... I've ever been an audience of.
• 33:59
Speaking of that, I just saw a kid- It was a Mother's Day. A Mother's Day, a Mother's Day at Cheese- Mark, mark Mother's Day... at, yeah, at Cheesecake Factory. [laughs] Mm-hmm.
• 34:07
And everything, everything that was purchased was something that involved whatever fake crab delicacies they have. Oh, I forgot about that. That's right.
• 34:15
And they just, and all they could do was celebrate how awesome this was, and this part, and this was, and the... I'm like, "Dude, I've never heard anybody celebrate a menu- Well, then you didn't...
• 34:26
ever, let alone it being- This-... Cheesecake Fucking Factory. [laughs]... over the top. I'm like, "That's insanity to me." All right. Before we get outta here, I just wanna run over this, uh,
• 34:38
kind of what to expect- Back and forth... going forward- Back and forth... with, with this whole show stuff. Hit me. Well, we, we three, the wise men of the original Full Spectrum, we're talking a monthly thing.
• 34:51
I can do monthly. Probably like the first Thursday of the month or some such. We'll just get together. That'd be cool. We'll just get together. We'll, we'll record. We'll do our thing. Thursdays are sauna days, though.
• 35:00
Can we do it from the sauna? No, it'll be recorded on Wednesdays. Oh, got it. Okay. Or Tuesdays. Okay. Okay. Whatever works for you guys. All right. All right. Cool. I don't really care.
• 35:07
But it'll be like a Thursday of whatever. And then JK and I are working on something, we don't have it fully sussed out, and because of last week's issues, we're probably going to just do it ourselves. Oh, yes. Okay.
• 35:19
Uh, [laughs] and I'm working on a spinoff from the Full Spectrum side that's gonna be a little more just cycling industry based. So basically taking this show, splitting it into Milwaukee over here, cycling over there.
• 35:34
Less commingling. We'll see how that works. Confusing the issues. Yeah. I dunno. Well, yeah. I mean, we, so- Muddying the water... so here's the reason why, and it's been how many shows? 325?
• 35:48
We get around 200 people listening, and there's some- That's shocking... very loyal listeners. They just love us. Yeah. I read a couple. Love, love, love, love, love. Why?
• 35:56
And I don't want to leave those fine listeners in the dust, but to be fair, I mean, that's, we're not really- If, if, I will tell you right now-... and we're confusing people. I think we're confusing people a little bit.
• 36:07
I'll tell you right now, if any one of them comes up to me and tells me they're a listener, 'cause I don't believe there's any, I'm buying them a beer. [laughs] They'll be like, stand- Except for you two.
• 36:16
[laughs] I knew that was coming. [laughs] They'll be standing behind you in line, and they'll be like, "I recognize your voice."
• 36:22
You're Tony It happened once on a bike ride [laughs] So I, I, I, I remember- Freak me out... on my Face place, I had put, "Blathering fool at Full Spectrum Cycling November 1st, 2018 to present." Who's blathering fool?
• 36:36
Me. Oh, you were the blathering fool? Yeah. Well, uh, my, you know, job experience. Oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. On, on my biography. Oh. Wow. Because you were a blathering fool much, much more recently than that. Yes. Right.
• 36:49
[laughs] And I w- I was talking monkey for fatbike.com from 2014 until- Oh, copy that... da-da-da. Ah Ah, to be fair, and only se- To be fair...
• 36:59
only seasonally and probably for only 10 episodes or whatever it is, I'm gonna bring back the Weekly Dose of Fat. Okay. Weekly? Weekly. You're gonna weekly do it or- Dose of Fat. Weekly.
• 37:12
But, but- But only for like 10- Let's say you and, are you gonna have Gomez? But, but- No, God damn Gomez Gomez. Nomez. Nomez. First of all, if Gomez is- 'Cause remember, it's Nomez...
• 37:21
do you think he listens to the show? Because fuck you, Gomez- Probably... if he does. I'm betting he does. He'd be like, "Why are those guys so awesome and I'm just sitting here being such a dick?" That would- Wow...
• 37:31
be why. Okay, you seriously threw that down. All right. Right? I did not know it was this- Gomez, come back on the show. We actually had some fun back in the day, when you weren't being a bipolar dick.
• 37:42
Uh, that said, like 10 weeks worth, u- through the, through the meat of the, the fat bike season. Or need. We've already got some cool stuff.
• 37:51
There's a new tire brand called Billy Flamingos coming out of the guys up in Alaska at the truck store with Bill Fleming. Hm. We're gonna have some tires to test. We're gonna have some stuff to talk about.
• 38:00
Fat bikes aren't dead, you freaks. No. That's what I'm saying. You got a fat bike. Well- You got a fat bike... they're fun. We got fat bikes. I have two fat bikes. We can still do that. Every problem.
• 38:13
And even though- Every problem... I really, honestly 100% think that the beach riding part of fat biking could be so much bigger than the snow riding part of fat biking- I totally hear that...
• 38:23
I do not understand why people in Monterey, California are not blasting up and down the beach on fat bikes. I've done it. Totally agree. It's super bad-ass. Yeah, I'll tell you that much.
• 38:32
They love their cars, and that's- The beaches there are- It, it, they love their cars. That's- It, it, it, it-... four football fields wide. They're just massive. It's insane. So awesome. I don't get it. Hard sand?
• 38:43
He goes out to the East Coast. How many fat bikes you see on the beach, besides the one you're riding? Uh, not many- No... but they are available, which is encouraging. Right. They're going...
• 38:57
I, I was able to rent, and they- Yeah... had, like, at least six. Okay. Craziest set of- So it was like, okay, that's better. I mean, 'cause it's Sandbridge. It's not really on Virginia Beach, just south of it.
• 39:08
The craziest set of- A little niche be- niche beach-... divergence-... niche beach... for the last episode of this show, just for the record. What? Beach riding? Beach riding.
• 39:17
Just saying, we're d- D- we're all over the board... how about the Weekly Dose of Fat? Yeah, Weekly Dose of Fat. Don't worry about it. We'll do it. You know. Hey, everybody, uh- When you need me, you call me.
• 39:25
I'll show up... thanks to Dan and Jessica for providing the audience to whom we allegedly were speaking to or whatever. Uh, Tony and JK, w- it's not like we won't be in the same room again, so.
• 39:36
I've never seen you in my life. Oh, my God, give me one of those. They're so good. Are you guys drinking Zombies? [laughs] Dan, don't, Dan, don't fall out of that chair. Hey, hey. I'm worried about you. Hey, hey, hey.
• 39:49
You might fall out of this chair- This is why-... and have to walk home... all right, before we get out of here, and I'm sure Dan heard this before, but you guys know that Swerve got, got, got bought.
• 39:57
[laughs] Or, uh- I have pants again. We have to know how it- Pants again. I'm wearing some Swerve pants right- Yep, you can see your gusset. I'm wearing pants. See it, see it, see it, see it right here.
• 40:06
I see your gusset. [laughs] I see your gusset and raise you a, a Muppet. Um, anyway- God damn. [laughs] This is the last show? Nah. Uh- Can't be. Why, well, why go out... We g- we go out on a high note.
• 40:20
All right, everybody, thank you very much for being- Bye... and thanks to Sealey Dave for calling in. Thanks, Tony, for being here- Sealey Dave...
• 40:26
and, and thanks to Dan and Jessica, uh, as I like to call them now, Danica. Oh, that's so bad. I love it. I hate Danica Patrick so much. Yeah. It kind of sucks, huh? Yeah, it does.
• 40:35
It does kind of suck that you guys are- It doesn't roll off the tongue... nah. All right, everybody, bye. Bye. What's that over the thing? End on a cliffhanger. [gasps] Oh, my God, it's coming right for us.
• 40:46
  [rock music]
