- 0:10Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm
- 0:13Speaker 1: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark movie fan. I'm Wendy.
- 0:17Speaker 2: I'm your former Hallmark hater on the verge of fallen
- 0:23Speaker 2: back in I. I don't know, we're gonna have to
- 0:25Speaker 2: remove the former from your title. Let me just be
- 0:28Speaker 2: clear that I texted you over the weekend and said
- 0:32Speaker 2: that Hallmark has had more missues in their Christmas lineup.
- 0:37Speaker 1: It hasn't been terribly strong. No, when a movie with
- 0:43Speaker 1: a seal and an underwater Christmas tree is the best
- 0:46Speaker 1: offering we've seen so far, no shade. I loved that movie,
- 0:52Speaker 1: but I hear you. Yeah. Today we are discussing Never
- 0:55Speaker 1: Been Chris, which originally aired on Saturday, November fourth on
- 0:59Speaker 1: the Hallmark Channel. We would love for you to join
- 1:02Speaker 1: our Instagram family. We are at Girls Gone Hallmark. Jump
- 1:05Speaker 1: into our Girls Gone Hallmark Facebook group. Lots of us
- 1:09Speaker 1: talking about.
- 1:09Speaker 2: This movie as well as others from the weekend. Lots
- 1:14Speaker 2: of thoughtful conversation over there.
- 1:18Speaker 1: No fighting, No, it's a nice group. It's a nice group.
- 1:22Speaker 1: We do have a website also, It's Meganandwindy dot com
- 1:24Speaker 1: where you can find detailed show notes about each episode,
- 1:28Speaker 1: as well as tons of other non podcast related content. There.
- 1:31Speaker 1: We are going to jump right into a synopsis for
- 1:34Speaker 1: this movie.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Sure, Thank You Home for the Holidays. BFFs Naomi and
- 1:39Speaker 2: Liz reconnect with high school crush Chris Silver. A complex
- 1:44Speaker 2: love triangle forms, forcing them to take stock of their
- 1:47Speaker 2: lives and find the value of friendship.
- 1:50Speaker 1: This movie was written by Jua Vodkin. Jua has twenty
- 1:53Speaker 1: two previous writing credits, which include Cranberry Christmas, Falling for You,
- 1:57Speaker 1: as well as last year's are Italian Chris Memories and
- 2:01Speaker 1: hashtag Xmas. Cranberry Christmas is one of your faves, right,
- 2:05Speaker 1: It's a good one. I still I need to go
- 2:07Speaker 1: back and watch that. It's talked about so much. I
- 2:10Speaker 1: think it's one of the first that kind of pushes
- 2:13Speaker 1: against Hallmark form.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Oh interesting, okay. Jeff Beasley directed. Jeff had back to
- 2:20Speaker 2: back movies this Weekend with Never Been Christ and The
- 2:22Speaker 2: Santa Summit. His resume also includes Hallmarks, Just One Kiss,
- 2:27Speaker 2: a Christmas Cookie, Catastrophe, Love Strikes Twice, and upcoming for
- 2:32Speaker 2: Him is Miracle in Bethlehem.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Pa Janelle Parish plays Naomi. Janelle has fifty one acting
- 2:38Speaker 1: credits and is probably most well known for her role
- 2:41Speaker 1: on Pretty Little Liars from ten to twenty seventeen. She
- 2:45Speaker 1: also played Big Sister Margo in the twelve The Boys
- 2:48Speaker 1: I've Loved Before movie trilogy on Hallmark. We last saw
- 2:51Speaker 1: Janelle in The Family History Mysteries Buried Past and Pascal
- 2:57Speaker 1: lamonth Kipnas Plays List. She has a rather short resume
- 3:00Speaker 1: with just six acting credits, and this is her very
- 3:03Speaker 1: first Hallmark movie.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Tyler Hines plays Honky Chris Silver. He was last seen
- 3:08Speaker 2: in a picture of her from earlier this year.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Linda co plays Naomi's mom Linda. She has fifty six
- 3:16Speaker 1: acting credits, including Guiding Emily where she played Emily's doctor,
- 3:19Speaker 1: Sweeter Than Chocolate and Open by Christmas. She was also
- 3:23Speaker 1: in two of the tow all the Boys I've Loved
- 3:25Speaker 1: Before movies where she played Aunt Carrie. That's funny, there's
- 3:29Speaker 1: some crossover.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Do you think, like Janelle Parish is like, oh hey,
- 3:32Speaker 2: nice to see you again.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Because they work together in another movie. Yes, I do,
- 3:37Speaker 1: all right.
- 3:38Speaker 2: This movie was filmed in Manitoba, Canada, as well as
- 3:41Speaker 2: some areas of Winnipeg, and filming begin on March twelfth,
- 3:45Speaker 2: twenty twenty three, ended on June third, May twelfth, even
- 3:48Speaker 2: what did I say, Henry March twelfth, Yeah, sorry, May twelfth,
- 3:52Speaker 2: May twelfth. Even On's Henriette Evanons plays Liz's mom, Me Me,
- 3:58Speaker 2: She's been a ton of other home movies, including Made
- 4:01Speaker 2: for each Other, Hanukah On Rae, Love Strikes Twice, and
- 4:04Speaker 2: Sweet Autumn. All right, let's talk first impressions.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Go ahead.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Was this a high school reunion movie or was it
- 4:12Speaker 2: a Christmas movie?
- 4:13Speaker 1: I don't know. I've got Hallmark apparently isn't ready for
- 4:17Speaker 1: a threesome. Man, I almost died.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Somebody did write in our Facebook group about a threuple.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I was eloalen. Yeah, they called this the throuble movie.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Loved it a thrumble movie. No, not ready for threesomes
- 4:32Speaker 1: on Hallmark. Let's talk about what we liked.
- 4:35Speaker 2: My list is short, but considering my list is short,
- 4:38Speaker 2: I want to say I did like this movie.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Me too, me too? And people did not like this movie.
- 4:45Speaker 2: I think it's because, well we all know, it's because
- 4:49Speaker 2: it was not a Tayler Heines movie.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I agree this movie wasn't a Tyler Heines movie. It's
- 4:54Speaker 1: not about Tyler or his character. He's not the star
- 4:58Speaker 1: of this movie. H While Batkan wrote this movie, and
- 5:01Speaker 1: I said this in our Facebook group, I think it's
- 5:04Speaker 1: important to know that because this is the kind of
- 5:07Speaker 1: movie she writes. She doesn't write boy meets girl, they kiss,
- 5:11Speaker 1: I love you the end. She writes complicated relationships. And
- 5:15Speaker 1: that's what is at the heart of this movie. The
- 5:17Speaker 1: Chris Silver relationship is not the heart of this movie.
- 5:20Speaker 1: You could lift it out of the movie and you've
- 5:22Speaker 1: got a complete story told agreed.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Now, would you be okay with that? If this movie
- 5:29Speaker 2: did not include.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Tyler or a love story. No, I don't need a
- 5:33Speaker 1: love story in all my movies. I like Tyler, but
- 5:38Speaker 1: I loved Janelle and Pascal. I thought they had great
- 5:41Speaker 1: chemistry on screen. And that's a complete movie to me.
- 5:44Speaker 1: The two women reevaluating, redefining their friendship and their working relationship,
- 5:51Speaker 1: and working through their relationships as the adult children with
- 5:56Speaker 1: their moms. That's enough. Yeah, I think so too.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Well.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Well, we've been saying here for a long time, and
- 6:02Speaker 2: it's mostly after Mahogany movies, because I feel like Mahogany
- 6:05Speaker 2: movies gets it right.
- 6:06Speaker 1: They know how to.
- 6:10Speaker 2: They have the friendship angle in these movies down. And
- 6:15Speaker 2: we've been asking for like Hallmark, regular Hallmark non Mahogany
- 6:19Speaker 2: movies to give us something more. It doesn't always have
- 6:22Speaker 2: to be romantic love. And I think this movie is
- 6:26Speaker 2: a solid one about female friendships.
- 6:28Speaker 1: And I liked it me too.
- 6:31Speaker 2: I did also enjoy the difficult dynamics between the daughters
- 6:36Speaker 2: and their moms. I thought Lizz was a little more compelling.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I thought Naomi's came off as a little selfish, but
- 6:45Speaker 2: still an interesting story to look at. I'm sure there's
- 6:49Speaker 2: lots of widowed I mean, her dad was dead right
- 6:53Speaker 2: for seventeen years. To me, Liz's conflict was more believable
- 6:58Speaker 2: than Naomi's conflict. The idea that her mom like, I'm
- 7:00Speaker 2: gonna move and we're gonna live together, Well, their whole
- 7:04Speaker 2: problem was boundaries, and that's fine, Like if your mom
- 7:08Speaker 2: wants to be in your life, and your life takes
- 7:11Speaker 2: place in Palo Alto. And where were they living? Where
- 7:14Speaker 2: was this Chicago? They talked about Chicago at some point,
- 7:16Speaker 2: but then they talked about somewhere else too.
- 7:18Speaker 1: They're not in Chicago because Mindy moved to Chicago.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Right, But they're in small town somewhere somewhere. I don't
- 7:25Speaker 2: think there's anything wrong with your mother wanting to be
- 7:28Speaker 2: like connected to your world. I do think there is
- 7:32Speaker 2: something to say about healthy boundaries. Sure, so it's an
- 7:36Speaker 2: interesting story. I just thought Naomi was kind of not
- 7:39Speaker 2: nice about it.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I agree with you.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I thought Liz and the like mom with the second marriage,
- 7:46Speaker 2: and I think that's what that's what it was, right,
- 7:49Speaker 2: that was like a second husband and that their daughter
- 7:52Speaker 2: was going to Stanford and she was left out of
- 7:55Speaker 2: the Christmas card and whatever.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Right. I think that's an interesting story too.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Yes, so I thought those were done well. Yes, I
- 8:03Speaker 2: liked it. I liked that and I thought that was good.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Okay, but is Liz manufacturing content? She's like, you never
- 8:09Speaker 1: chaperone the dance? You never and her mom's like, yeah,
- 8:11Speaker 1: you didn't go because that was twenty years ago. You
- 8:14Speaker 1: gotta let that shit go. But if you're not including
- 8:17Speaker 1: me in your family Christmas car, no, that is something
- 8:19Speaker 1: to be upset about this, I agree.
- 8:21Speaker 2: No, if she's still hanging on to all these things,
- 8:24Speaker 2: that's what I'm saying. Like, the things I didn't like
- 8:27Speaker 2: about this movie is there was so much hung up on,
- 8:30Speaker 2: like who they were in high school. I'm not having
- 8:35Speaker 2: a conversation with my dad thirty years later about something
- 8:40Speaker 2: that happened in high school with me and how that
- 8:43Speaker 2: affected my family dynamic.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Like it's just not happening.
- 8:47Speaker 2: I just hated like this whole, Like these people are
- 8:50Speaker 2: supposed to be thirty five years old.
- 8:51Speaker 1: There's a point where you're maturing. I don't know, am
- 8:55Speaker 1: I making sense here? I think it would have made
- 8:57Speaker 1: more sense at a different time in their lives, like
- 8:59Speaker 1: me ten years post graduation as opposed to seventeen. Yes,
- 9:04Speaker 1: they're still in their twenties. There's some of this, like
- 9:07Speaker 1: I'm looking back ten years. Is my life where I
- 9:09Speaker 1: wanted it to be? These are the expectations I had
- 9:12Speaker 1: from my life. Yes, but seventeen may have been too far.
- 9:17Speaker 2: So should they have recast this with younger actors?
- 9:22Speaker 1: It's a different story. Maybe maybe I think it's a
- 9:25Speaker 1: different story. Are we moving on to what we wished for?
- 9:28Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 9:29Speaker 1: So I think there are some loose ends for me
- 9:32Speaker 1: that don't get tied up. There's some backstory that I'm missing.
- 9:35Speaker 1: So there's a lot of Liz and Naomi conversation about
- 9:42Speaker 1: Liz brought Naomi into the business, but we only get
- 9:46Speaker 1: that in exposition. We don't really get she's like, Oh,
- 9:49Speaker 1: I dragged you along, I gave you half of my business.
- 9:54Speaker 1: It's kind of unclear to me the origin story of
- 9:57Speaker 1: all of them. Yeah, for sure. Feeling resentful, Yes, that's
- 10:02Speaker 1: the word I was looking for. Yes, which is it's
- 10:05Speaker 1: That's also unclear to me because when Naomi says, maybe
- 10:08Speaker 1: it's time for us to do new things and Liz
- 10:09Speaker 1: says put new things together? Yeah, right, I have I
- 10:14Speaker 1: have so many questions, go, did it seem to you
- 10:17Speaker 1: like maybe in the writing it was almost like they
- 10:20Speaker 1: were trying to make Tyler a villain? Were you expecting
- 10:22Speaker 1: him to turn out to be a bad guy?
- 10:24Speaker 2: Look, I would have liked this movie more if he
- 10:26Speaker 2: was like.
- 10:27Speaker 1: I was like, oh, the fake Vegan, not fake Vegan.
- 10:30Speaker 1: But that's where it was headed, and like, oh, he's
- 10:32Speaker 1: such a nice guy. This is all an act. He
- 10:35Speaker 1: moved back to town to be an English teacher. All
- 10:38Speaker 1: of this, are they setting us up for disappointment? And
- 10:41Speaker 1: then they weren't, And I was almost disappointed by them.
- 10:44Speaker 2: I agree with the whole thing where Liz sees him
- 10:47Speaker 2: eat the salmon or whatever and calls him out for
- 10:50Speaker 2: me not being a vegan, and then Naomi sees it eventually, right.
- 10:55Speaker 2: I thought the better road in this movie would have
- 10:59Speaker 2: been for Liz and Naomi to realize that high school
- 11:03Speaker 2: hunk Chris Silver was not it in current day. And
- 11:07Speaker 2: I think that would have been more interesting to watch
- 11:11Speaker 2: in terms of Tyler Hines in this role, because Tyler
- 11:15Speaker 2: Hines is always the good guy, always the honky love
- 11:18Speaker 2: interest or whatever, like let him be hot, but let
- 11:22Speaker 2: him be a douchebag, and then I think he would
- 11:24Speaker 2: have got the last laugh for taking a role that.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Was like so against type. What the hell is a
- 11:30Speaker 1: secretly vegan restaurant?
- 11:32Speaker 2: I had no idea.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I thought that has to be a joke, but it
- 11:37Speaker 1: didn't appear to be. You can't secretly be serving vegan food.
- 11:42Speaker 1: You can't have a menu. Do you remember years ago
- 11:45Speaker 1: at a blogging conference, there was a sponsored offsite event
- 11:49Speaker 1: where they took people and they served them a meal
- 11:51Speaker 1: and then it turned out it was all baby food. Yes,
- 11:54Speaker 1: that's horrifying. You can't lie to people about the food
- 11:56Speaker 1: that you're serving. I agree, and as correspondent Mike pointed,
- 11:59Speaker 1: out in his email it's quite possibly illegal. Oh really,
- 12:03Speaker 1: you can't say I'm serving you cheese and it's not cheese. Yeah,
- 12:06Speaker 1: because what if you have an allergy or something whatever
- 12:09Speaker 1: they're using to create if cashw milk, I know I
- 12:12Speaker 1: am allergic to Cashew's.
- 12:14Speaker 2: If somebody was serving me like, yeah, it would be
- 12:17Speaker 2: a huge problem.
- 12:18Speaker 1: At what point does Liz relinquish her crush on Chris,
- 12:22Speaker 1: Because when they go ice skating, it appears to me
- 12:24Speaker 1: that they are equally into him. She even has this
- 12:27Speaker 1: imagined kiss moment. Yeah, then Naomi kisses her, taking her moment,
- 12:33Speaker 1: kisses him, and then on the walk home, she's like,
- 12:35Speaker 1: it's fine, you're good, you have my blessing.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:39Speaker 1: I don't understand.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I thought maybe because she saw him like eat the salmon,
- 12:44Speaker 2: But that happened after the ice skating thing, So to me,
- 12:49Speaker 2: Liz was into him.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Yes, Why did she just like give it up to
- 12:54Speaker 1: keep the peace? I think it's never fully explored. She
- 12:58Speaker 1: doesn't have someone else to have that conversation with. It's
- 13:02Speaker 1: again another reason I think that maybe Naomi and Chris
- 13:06Speaker 1: shouldn't end up together.
- 13:08Speaker 2: I think it would have been better if they didn't
- 13:10Speaker 2: end up together. Yeah, I think it would have been
- 13:12Speaker 2: so much better because you have three people, somebody is
- 13:16Speaker 2: going to lose.
- 13:19Speaker 1: That's not fun to watch. No, unless Liz was the
- 13:24Speaker 1: one who realized, oh he really isn't all that, but
- 13:27Speaker 1: we never saw her have that realization. Thirty minutes before
- 13:31Speaker 1: she was all into him, right right. Mindy is an
- 13:34Speaker 1: underserved character in this movie. I don't even know who
- 13:38Speaker 1: Mindy is. Well, that's because she's all about a throwaway.
- 13:43Speaker 1: There's one scene where Liz and Carly and Mindy are
- 13:47Speaker 1: all having a conversation. It's where Liz decides she's gonna
- 13:50Speaker 1: host jingle Ball. Yes, Carly does all the talking. Mindy's
- 13:53Speaker 1: lines in that scene are she nods, she says things
- 13:56Speaker 1: like you should and he definitely would, But she doesn't
- 14:00Speaker 1: contribute to the conversation other than standing there, and that
- 14:04Speaker 1: happens in many scenes. She's I think, supposed to be
- 14:08Speaker 1: like the cool friend. She was the former cheerleader, go
- 14:12Speaker 1: but she the cheerleader. Yeah, okay, she's like I live
- 14:14Speaker 1: in Chicago now, fine, but she's almost a little bit
- 14:20Speaker 1: too much like we've got party Marty. These archetypes, and
- 14:24Speaker 1: at least they hardly give them any presents in the movie.
- 14:28Speaker 1: If you're going to have a conversation with three women,
- 14:31Speaker 1: let her have an equal role in the conversation. Yeah,
- 14:33Speaker 1: I feel like I'm the MINDI of this podcast. Sometimes
- 14:37Speaker 1: this is gonna be my question though, in terms of
- 14:41Speaker 1: did it make you uncomfortable watching them where they're like,
- 14:43Speaker 1: I pulled you along, it was my business. I thought,
- 14:46Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, is that mean?
- 14:48Speaker 3: No?
- 14:49Speaker 2: I did. I did put us in the scenario a
- 14:53Speaker 2: little bit, but then I quickly backed out of it
- 14:55Speaker 2: because everything that we've done we've done together.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I agree, But and I thought, oh, no, are their
- 15:01Speaker 1: secret resentment? No, not at all, which one of us
- 15:04Speaker 1: is being quiet to keep the peace?
- 15:06Speaker 2: I mean, you did pull me into working together initially,
- 15:10Speaker 2: but that was a long time ago. I wouldn't still
- 15:12Speaker 2: be here. Yes, right, it was your idea initially, But
- 15:18Speaker 2: here we are.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Here we are? Can I say I didn't like Naomi.
- 15:23Speaker 2: I didn't find her very likable at all as a person.
- 15:27Speaker 2: I thought she was terrible to her mom. I didn't
- 15:29Speaker 2: think she was a great friend to Liz. And of
- 15:32Speaker 2: course this is all under assumption, not the mom part,
- 15:35Speaker 2: but the friend part, because Liz got into Stanford, Naomi
- 15:40Speaker 2: went wherever I think Iowa or something like that.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Did she need Liz? Did she convince Liz to go?
- 15:47Speaker 2: Like this all backstory that I don't have a full
- 15:50Speaker 2: understanding about.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Well, Liz, she didn't convince her. Liz told her I
- 15:54Speaker 1: didn't get into Stanford because she didn't want Naomi to
- 15:58Speaker 1: have to go to college by herself after her dad.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Okay, there's that. So there's that now. In terms of
- 16:05Speaker 2: Liz and Naomi competing over the attention of.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Chris, Yeah, I think.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Naomi's just like, yeah, I'm gonna go for it, like
- 16:14Speaker 2: she didn't consider Liz's feelings for Chris.
- 16:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:18Speaker 1: The moment after he kisses her, they do have the
- 16:21Speaker 1: conversation where she tries to blow it off. She's like,
- 16:23Speaker 1: it's no big deal, right, and Liz is like, it's okay,
- 16:27Speaker 1: you have my blessing. But then she accepts the one
- 16:30Speaker 1: on one date. I still think you need to have
- 16:31Speaker 1: a second conversation. I think so too. I think so too.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I have two questions for you. Do you think the expectations.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Were super high for this movie and maybe it didn't
- 16:44Speaker 2: land based on the popularity of Tyler Hines.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Yes, I think a lot of the disappointment And I
- 16:52Speaker 1: don't think this is a perfect movie, but I think
- 16:54Speaker 1: a lot of the disappointment falls in people watch a
- 16:58Speaker 1: Tyler Hines movie and they want Tyler Heiness romance. They
- 17:01Speaker 1: want swoony Tyler Hines, and that's not what this movie
- 17:06Speaker 1: was about. Right now, I think Tyler Hines is charming
- 17:10Speaker 1: on screen, and I thought he was charming on screen
- 17:11Speaker 1: in this movie me too. And I liked when he
- 17:15Speaker 1: has that conversation with Liz at the jingle Ball and
- 17:18Speaker 1: I think he's There's just moments where he says nice
- 17:22Speaker 1: things to these women and you're like, oh, like, I
- 17:24Speaker 1: could understand why you would have this crush on him
- 17:27Speaker 1: all these years later. I thought he was still very
- 17:29Speaker 1: Tyler Heinsey in this movie. But is it a full
- 17:33Speaker 1: swoon fest because he's not the star of the show.
- 17:36Speaker 1: It isn't. It's not about Tyler and his co star
- 17:39Speaker 1: and they're two competing stories. It's about Liz and Naomi
- 17:45Speaker 1: with Tyler as a supporting character, right Frankly.
- 17:48Speaker 2: So, don't you think the Heinies are pissed because they
- 17:52Speaker 2: kind of got duped thinking this was going to be
- 17:55Speaker 2: a Tyler Heines movie, and it was a bait.
- 17:57Speaker 1: And switch situation. Do you think that the original script
- 18:05Speaker 1: had the two not ending up together at the end?
- 18:08Speaker 1: I wonder is there some hallmark boardroom conversation happening where
- 18:13Speaker 1: someone's like doesn't always have to be a love story.
- 18:16Speaker 1: And then there's pushback for someone saying, but there are
- 18:20Speaker 1: people who expected.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Where this thing is going to fall apart on me.
- 18:24Speaker 1: So the backstory of this moment in the podcast is
- 18:28Speaker 1: my dog lost his mind, jumped all over Wendy. There
- 18:31Speaker 1: was a loud cracking sound from one of the chairs.
- 18:34Speaker 3: You hear it, You heard it? He did?
- 18:36Speaker 1: And I have an eighty pound puppy, y'all. He lost
- 18:39Speaker 1: his mind. He wasn't being he was just being a puppy. Yeah, totally.
- 18:44Speaker 1: And I think I've broken the chair when he just
- 18:47Speaker 1: tipped the chair over to peek underneath it to see
- 18:49Speaker 1: if there was an obvious crack. You didn't break the chair.
- 18:52Speaker 1: If it's broken, the dog did. God, the rug that
- 18:55Speaker 1: this table is on had to be rotated one hundred
- 18:58Speaker 1: and eighty degrees to the corner that he chewed on
- 19:01Speaker 1: in the back. Puppies, y'all. So anyway back to the conversation.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I wonder if there's some behind the scenes pushback where
- 19:10Speaker 1: some people are saying there doesn't need to be a
- 19:12Speaker 1: love story, and other people are saying, yes, there does.
- 19:16Speaker 1: This is not movies and mysteries. On movies and mysteries,
- 19:18Speaker 1: particularly in the mysteries, when we're gonna have a series,
- 19:22Speaker 1: we don't always have a love story. I'm not sure
- 19:25Speaker 1: we needed the love story. Again. I don't think they
- 19:27Speaker 1: needed to end up together, and I wonder if maybe
- 19:30Speaker 1: that was the initial intention. I wish we knew.
- 19:34Speaker 2: I think they could have completely hired a different dude
- 19:38Speaker 2: in this movie.
- 19:39Speaker 1: So I have been thinking about that a lot, because
- 19:43Speaker 1: a lot of the commentary about this movie is that
- 19:45Speaker 1: it was wasted on Tyler Hines. To me, any, Tyler
- 19:49Speaker 1: Hine's appearance is a good Tyler Hines's appearance. I've never
- 19:52Speaker 1: seen him on screen and thought, man, I wish he
- 19:54Speaker 1: wasn't in this movie. I'm not saying he's never made
- 19:57Speaker 1: a bad movie. I'm saying I I don't think I've
- 20:00Speaker 1: ever seen him on screen and thought that another actor
- 20:03Speaker 1: would have been better in the role. I'm not suggesting
- 20:06Speaker 1: that I know what people are saying. If we're gonna
- 20:09Speaker 1: have a Tyler Hines Christmas movie. I want a Tyler
- 20:12Speaker 1: Hines Christmas movie. Yes, I get that, I do. I
- 20:17Speaker 1: wish we had that too. At the same time, if
- 20:19Speaker 1: you're gonna have a movie about the high school heart
- 20:22Speaker 1: throb that these women still are pining for seventeen years later,
- 20:26Speaker 1: who better to play that role than Tyler Hines?
- 20:29Speaker 2: Fair fair points.
- 20:30Speaker 1: I see both sides. I understand. Yeah, yeah, I.
- 20:34Speaker 2: See not one Tyler and Candy Cane moment, No toothpick, nothing, give.
- 20:42Speaker 1: The people what they want.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Seriously, when they're drinking the hot chocolate flight, he couldn't
- 20:47Speaker 2: put the peppermint stick in his mouth for half a second.
- 20:51Speaker 1: That would have made the women. I'm not even gonna
- 20:54Speaker 1: say it. I don't even want to know where you
- 20:56Speaker 1: were going to go with the end of that sentence.
- 21:00Speaker 1: I just yeah, I just there were some misses. There
- 21:03Speaker 1: were some misses for me. Sure, are you ready to
- 21:06Speaker 1: move on to did you see that?
- 21:08Speaker 2: I have?
- 21:09Speaker 3: But two?
- 21:10Speaker 1: Okay, let me hear I have won. The fireplace at
- 21:14Speaker 1: Naomi's house is so fake. I didn't even notice it.
- 21:18Speaker 1: You only see it now. Man or rom are having
- 21:21Speaker 1: a conversation in the kitchen. It's later in the film.
- 21:24Speaker 1: It's in the background, but it's very obviously a digital fireplace,
- 21:29Speaker 1: and I know those exist. Even my husband's like, WHOA,
- 21:31Speaker 1: that's fake fire Did your husband like this movie? No,
- 21:39Speaker 1: I don't. The answer is I don't know. And the
- 21:41Speaker 1: reason I don't know is I had to watch both
- 21:44Speaker 1: of the movies that were reviewing this weekend twice because
- 21:46Speaker 1: I was not feeling well Friday and Saturday night, and
- 21:49Speaker 1: I was not present for the actual on the couch
- 21:53Speaker 1: yeah evening viewing, Got It, and I had to rewatch
- 21:57Speaker 1: it the.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Next got You, Got You. One of the digit see
- 22:00Speaker 2: that I noticed in this movie is when they went
- 22:03Speaker 2: to go meet Chris and the other classmates at the bar.
- 22:07Speaker 2: They walk in, Chris is getting two pictures of beer
- 22:11Speaker 2: from the bar keep or whatever. They go back down
- 22:15Speaker 2: to the table. It's all good. They have their big
- 22:18Speaker 2: scene here, everybody decides it's time to go home. There
- 22:22Speaker 2: are two pictures of beer still sitting on the table.
- 22:26Speaker 1: They didn't even touch it.
- 22:27Speaker 2: There were so much booze in this movie though, Yeah,
- 22:30Speaker 2: did you know he was drinking a beer at one time,
- 22:32Speaker 2: like out of a bottle At the party, they.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Talk about shots. Yes, they were drinking wine. Even when
- 22:41Speaker 1: Carly says, oh, we're gonna play never have I ever
- 22:43Speaker 1: Christmas Cookie Edition and he's like, mm hm, this sounds terrible.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Look Tyler gonna say a lot with very little. I agree.
- 22:53Speaker 1: He still makes me swoon. He's still the best of
- 22:56Speaker 1: the best. What was your other Did you see that
- 23:00Speaker 1: any Christmas trees? Does Naomi Small pack?
- 23:01Speaker 2: Oh my god, My daughter and I were watching this
- 23:04Speaker 2: and she's like, uh, there's one, two, three, four or
- 23:06Speaker 2: five in this.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Scene in her front yard, there's many, many, many. Inside
- 23:12Speaker 1: the home, there's so many. And she's never home for Christmas.
- 23:16Speaker 1: She's been in Hawaii the past seven years. Oh, I
- 23:19Speaker 1: totally miss that. They usually Naomi and Liz usually take
- 23:23Speaker 1: her to Hawaii every year.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Oh yeah, And why is she trying to pack up
- 23:26Speaker 2: her home during Christmas time?
- 23:27Speaker 1: Cause she's gonna sell it and move to Palo Alto.
- 23:30Speaker 2: I know, but you have all this Christmas decor out,
- 23:34Speaker 2: like you're packing up your cookbooks and stuff too, Like
- 23:37Speaker 2: it's just too much.
- 23:38Speaker 1: There's even a scene where she's like, you told me
- 23:39Speaker 1: I was gonna need my pops, Like she was gonna
- 23:41Speaker 1: pack those two as if that's not the last thing
- 23:43Speaker 1: you pack, go pack those books that are getting dusty
- 23:45Speaker 1: in the library. You never use bake trees an that's all. Yeah,
- 23:50Speaker 1: why'd you rate this movie? I gave it four stars. Wow,
- 23:55Speaker 1: told you the takes are gonna be spicy. This week.
- 23:58Speaker 1: I gave it three. It was good movie. I just
- 24:01Speaker 1: again like, I just feel.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Like we're getting these movies that are not meant to
