- 0:00Speaker 1: Toby and Chili mornings on demand on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Good morning DMV. Welcome to Monday, September 14th. Did your
- 0:09Speaker 2: alarm go off?
- 0:10Speaker 3: Were you like, nope, absolutely not.
- 0:14Speaker 2: If so, congratulations. You're amongst friends here with Toby and
- 0:17Speaker 2: Chili in the morning, 97.1 Wash FM.
- 0:18Speaker 3: We understand.
- 0:23Speaker 2: And we probably did the same sort of thing just earlier.
- 0:26Speaker 2: So let's get into Monday together. Why are you feeling
- 0:28Speaker 2: good as we start a brand new week?
- 0:29Speaker 3: Chilly Amar.
- 0:30Speaker 4: Well, we had a date night, you and I, with
- 0:34Speaker 4: some listeners. And it was at Nationals Park, a VIP experience,
- 0:38Speaker 4: which we're going to talk a little bit more about
- 0:40Speaker 4: in the show around 640. I'm feeling grateful because that
- 0:44Speaker 4: was the first true date my husband and I had
- 0:47Speaker 4: in well over a year.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Man, y'all should have got a hotel adjacent to the
- 0:51Speaker 2: park because there's plenty of them down there.
- 0:53Speaker 3: I know.
- 0:53Speaker 4: Now, we do lunch dates because he works from home.
- 0:56Speaker 4: But that's different. You know, that's different.
- 0:58Speaker 3: That doesn't count.
- 0:59Speaker 4: No, I mean, it counts, but it's not.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Like a quasi count.
- 1:02Speaker 4: That's like a 45 minutes kind of thing. This was
- 1:04Speaker 4: like going out, going out of town a little bit.
- 1:07Speaker 4: My sister, thank you so much for watching Donato. But
- 1:10Speaker 4: that's why I'm feeling good. Why are you feeling good?
- 1:12Speaker 2: I am feeling good because, yes, the ballgame was the ballgame.
- 1:16Speaker 2: The seats were incredible. Spending time with my significant other
- 1:19Speaker 2: before she has to go back out of town to
- 1:21Speaker 2: work because it's a busy time for her, I guess.
- 1:23Speaker 3: And that was good.
- 1:25Speaker 2: I mean, there were just so many good little things
- 1:28Speaker 2: that wrapped up all into one and became a great
- 1:33Speaker 2: weekend sort of a thing. You know, you've got to
- 1:35Speaker 2: just commit yourself to the good when it happens. And
- 1:38Speaker 2: if it happens over and over and over again, repeatedly,
- 1:41Speaker 2: that tells you that you're on the right path for something.
- 1:45Speaker 2: And that's how I felt this weekend. At least that's
- 1:48Speaker 2: how I want to believe that I felt. And that's
- 1:50Speaker 2: why I'm feeling good today. Why are you feeling great?
- 1:53Speaker 2: Call us and tell us.
- 1:54Speaker 3: 866-927-4361. Let's get this Monday started. We got the news,
- 1:56Speaker 3: top stories.
- 2:00Speaker 2: At the top of the hour coming up in just
- 2:02Speaker 2: a few minutes, you need to know, so what can
- 2:04Speaker 2: we expect you?
- 2:05Speaker 4: How many miles does your current vehicle have? A new
- 2:08Speaker 4: study looked to find which cars are most likely to
- 2:12Speaker 4: hit 250,000 miles, and I'll share what those are coming
- 2:16Speaker 4: up in just a few.
- 2:20Speaker 5: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 2:22Speaker 4: The president returned to D.C. after a two-day visit to Ireland.
- 2:26Speaker 4: He announced the U.S. will lift tariffs on Irish whiskey
- 2:30Speaker 4: while his comments supporting a united Ireland sparked controversy and protests.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Montgomery County police are investigating an overnight shooting that happened
- 2:38Speaker 4: outside Quincy's Potomac Bar and Grill that left a man
- 2:41Speaker 4: dead in the parking lot. No arrests have been made
- 2:44Speaker 4: and police have not released the victim's identity. The company
- 2:47Speaker 4: that renovated the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool now says that
- 2:51Speaker 4: its own installation problems caused the liner to fail and
- 2:55Speaker 4: not vandalism. Workers reportedly used too little primer and incompatible
- 3:01Speaker 4: chemicals caused the coating to blister and peel. A U-Haul
- 3:05Speaker 4: box truck crashed through a cinder block wall on South
- 3:08Speaker 4: Capitol Street yesterday morning. One person was checked out but
- 3:11Speaker 4: wasn't hurt and officials are still investigating what caused that crash.
- 3:15Speaker 4: The Washington Commanders came up just short in their season
- 3:18Speaker 4: opener yesterday, falling 24-22 to the Eagles. Meanwhile, new plans
- 3:23Speaker 4: for the Commanders Stadium Complex at the RFK site reveal
- 3:27Speaker 4: two parking garages, a 2,400-space just south of the stadium
- 3:33Speaker 4: and a 3,600-space garage to the north, plus 2,000 surface spots.
- 3:38Speaker 4: They're all set to open tomorrow. with the team's first
- 3:42Speaker 4: game there. And a new study looked at 400 million
- 3:45Speaker 4: vehicles to see which ones are likely to hit 250,000 miles.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Looks like Toyota dominates the list, led by the Sequoia
- 3:54Speaker 4: and the 4Runner. Forecast today, we'll have sunny skies. It'll
- 3:58Speaker 4: be breezy, highs around 78. Right now, 71 in Tysons.
- 4:02Speaker 2: And that is your first look at the news on
- 4:05Speaker 2: this Monday morning, 97.1 Wash FM.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Tell me you're chilly in the morning.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Next, we know that you might need a little something
- 4:12Speaker 2: extra in your coffee this morning to help you take
- 4:15Speaker 2: on this new day and this new week. That's why
- 4:17Speaker 2: your morning mindset can help. If you let it, some
- 4:22Speaker 2: words that will inspire from someone who knows a little
- 4:27Speaker 2: bit about success right here in the DMV.
- 4:30Speaker 3: It's on the way. Stay with us. You found Toby
- 4:33Speaker 3: and Tilly in the morning.
- 4:34Speaker 2: It's 97.1 Wash FM, and it's time now for your
- 4:38Speaker 2: morning mindset.
- 4:39Speaker 4: And boy, do we need a little inspiration and motivation
- 4:42Speaker 4: on a Monday morning. So what quote have you found
- 4:44Speaker 4: for us this morning?
- 4:45Speaker 2: From Ted Leonsis. Might sound familiar, that name. You know,
- 4:51Speaker 2: he owns, well, things downtown just off the red line
- 4:56Speaker 2: that are being made even greater, like the Capital One
- 4:58Speaker 2: Arena and the teams that play at the Capital One Arena.
- 5:02Speaker 3: He's very monumental, the man Ted Leonsis.
- 5:04Speaker 4: That's right.
- 5:05Speaker 2: And he says to us this morning as we get up,
- 5:07Speaker 2: if you attack things with integrity and you have stick-with-it-ness,
- 5:12Speaker 2: then good things will happen. If you attack things with
- 5:16Speaker 2: integrity and you have stick-with-it-ness... Ted Leonsis says, then good
- 5:21Speaker 2: things will happen. Now, this is really good advice, especially
- 5:26Speaker 2: good advice when nothing seems to be happening fast enough.
- 5:30Speaker 2: And trust me, in this town, people want everything yesterday.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Just keep showing up. Keep doing what you know in
- 5:36Speaker 2: your heart to be right. Even if it isn't always right,
- 5:39Speaker 2: just kind of follow your heart because it typically leads
- 5:42Speaker 2: you the right way. And sometimes breakthroughs happen long after.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Everybody else would have given up or quit sooner.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Right?
- 5:51Speaker 2: Keep that in mind and go find the success that
- 5:54Speaker 2: the man Ted Leonsis has found and do it your
- 5:58Speaker 2: way so that maybe we can quote you to inspire
- 6:01Speaker 2: us someday on a feature like this on some random
- 6:05Speaker 2: radio station or in life in a conversation. It's 97.1
- 6:09Speaker 2: Wash FM. That's your morning mindset. Need more goodness? Find
- 6:13Speaker 2: us on the Toby and Chili page at washfm.com. And remember,
- 6:16Speaker 2: you can also share quotes that have spoken with you
- 6:19Speaker 2: We would love to, in turn, share those with the
- 6:21Speaker 2: class as well. Hang out for a few minutes because
- 6:24Speaker 2: it's Toby and Chilling in the Morning continues.
- 6:26Speaker 4: The U.S. Open ended over the weekend. And, well, this
- 6:30Speaker 4: change is coming to Wimbledon after what one U.S. Open
- 6:35Speaker 4: player called a zoo at the U.S. Open.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Yeah, things are getting a little out of hand, people.
- 6:43Speaker 4: They did get out of hand.
- 6:44Speaker 2: You know, sometimes you're somewhere and you realize half the
- 6:47Speaker 2: people who are with you aren't actually watching what's happening.
- 6:51Speaker 3: They're filming themselves.
- 6:53Speaker 2: They're taking pictures of themselves, selfies, rather than watching what's
- 6:57Speaker 2: happening right in front of their face. It's 97.1 Watch FM.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning. Wimbledon's apparently had enough
- 7:03Speaker 2: of that. Maybe they're on to something.
- 7:05Speaker 4: Well, they're going to officially ban influencers and content creators
- 7:09Speaker 4: from getting any kind of accreditation. And ring lights are
- 7:12Speaker 4: getting confiscated at the gates. When Wimbledon comes back at
- 7:16Speaker 4: the end of June of 2027. Why? Because the U.S. Open,
- 7:20Speaker 4: which just wrapped up over the weekend, turned into what
- 7:23Speaker 4: one player called a zoo. Fans were wandering during points.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Music was blaring. They could smell marijuana in the stands.
- 7:34Speaker 4: And then there were viral videos. I know you saw
- 7:36Speaker 4: these viral videos where there would be a group of
- 7:38Speaker 4: influencers doing it like a TikTok dance, like up in
- 7:41Speaker 4: the stands. And the faces of true tennis fans are like,
- 7:46Speaker 4: are you kidding me right now?
- 7:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:48Speaker 2: There's usually more decorum at a tennis match than that.
- 7:51Speaker 2: And I say this because I know we do influencer
- 7:54Speaker 2: type things and.
- 7:56Speaker 3: We are those people that are guilty.
- 7:57Speaker 4: No, we're not.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Events of taking selfies or pictures or staging shots.
- 8:02Speaker 3: We do that.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Not in a place where we don't need to be
- 8:05Speaker 4: doing it, Toby.
- 8:06Speaker 2: These people just look foolish. It's too much. It's not
- 8:10Speaker 2: everything needs to be for social media. This is what
- 8:13Speaker 2: happens when you ruin a good thing.
- 8:15Speaker 4: Here's the thing about that, though. It's not really the influencers' fault,
- 8:18Speaker 4: per se, because they're invited to these events because they
- 8:20Speaker 4: want the publicity. So the people who organize this or
- 8:23Speaker 4: who send out the invitations to not... true tennis fans
- 8:27Speaker 4: but these influencers because you know they didn't pay for
- 8:29Speaker 4: it to be there um they needed to be given
- 8:32Speaker 4: some ground rules and maybe they were and they didn't
- 8:34Speaker 4: follow them but it really is up to the organizers
- 8:36Speaker 4: yeah to police this so the influencers are who they
- 8:38Speaker 4: are we know exactly what they're there for they're doing
- 8:41Speaker 4: a job to get clicks and views and whatnot i
- 8:43Speaker 4: think wimbledon doing this.
- 8:44Speaker 2: We applaud you yeah go for it wimbledon maybe you'll
- 8:47Speaker 2: bring about some change Maybe.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Back to the old ways?
- 8:50Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Like before we had phones with cameras and before we
- 8:54Speaker 2: had social media and before we had all this stuff,
- 8:56Speaker 2: when people just used to go and enjoy world-class tennis
- 9:01Speaker 2: on that level. We're Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 9:03Speaker 2: If you want to read more, Toby and Chili page, washfm.com.
- 9:06Speaker 2: You need some news. Right around 6, 10, we'll get
- 9:09Speaker 2: your top stories at the top of the hour.
- 9:10Speaker 3: What are you working on?
- 9:11Speaker 4: Want to live a longer life? Well, new research finds
- 9:15Speaker 4: foods that can... extend your life. And I'll share what
- 9:19Speaker 4: those are coming up.
- 9:21Speaker 2: If you're a teacher listening to us this morning, Toby
- 9:23Speaker 2: and Chili in the morning, 97.1 Wash FM, we love
- 9:26Speaker 2: you and we are here to help you.
- 9:30Speaker 3: And here's how you can help a teacher in your life.
- 9:32Speaker 4: iHeartRadio's Thank a Teacher powered by DonorsChoose. Just head to
- 9:36Speaker 4: washfm.com slash teachers and Help our local teachers get the
- 9:40Speaker 4: resources their students need.
- 9:43Speaker 1: 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington.
- 9:46Speaker 5: An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories, top.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Of the hour. Kennedy Center officials warn the building could
- 9:53Speaker 4: close as early as tomorrow. We've got the latest on
- 9:56Speaker 4: that story and others on the way. with Toby and
- 10:00Speaker 4: Chili in the morning on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 10:06Speaker 5: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 10:08Speaker 4: The president is back at the White House after a
- 10:11Speaker 4: two-day trip to Ireland where he sparked controversy by saying
- 10:14Speaker 4: that he'd love to see a united Ireland someday. Now
- 10:18Speaker 4: he's also doubling down on his proposed $ 5, 000 dividend checks
- 10:23Speaker 4: if Republicans hold Congress. But Speaker Mike Johnson says that
- 10:26Speaker 4: Congress would have to act first. A man died after
- 10:30Speaker 4: being shot overnight in the parking lot of Quincy's Potomac
- 10:33Speaker 4: Bar and Grill. Montgomery County police say no arrests have
- 10:36Speaker 4: been made and police have not released the victim's identity
- 10:40Speaker 4: or a motive. Kennedy Center officials warned the building could
- 10:44Speaker 4: close as early as tomorrow, citing possible bankruptcy and safety
- 10:48Speaker 4: concerns after this month's storm damage. The Washington Post reports
- 10:54Speaker 4: that the center's board says the only way to secure
- 10:57Speaker 4: funding is to put the president's name back on the building.
- 11:01Speaker 4: Ground has broken on a new $ 100 million visitor education
- 11:05Speaker 4: center near the Pentagon's 9-11 memorial, a project two decades
- 11:10Speaker 4: in the making, and it's meant to help future generations
- 11:13Speaker 4: understand the September 11th attacks. The Commanders opened the season 0-1,
- 11:19Speaker 4: falling 24-22 to the Eagles. Despite a late rally from
- 11:24Speaker 4: QB Jaden Daniels, he threw two touchdowns but a failed
- 11:27Speaker 4: two-point try left Washington just short. And new research finds
- 11:32Speaker 4: foods like extra virgin olive oil, asparagus, and butternut squash
- 11:37Speaker 4: are linked to a longer life, while soda, sweetened tea,
- 11:40Speaker 4: and whole milk are tied to a higher risk of
- 11:43Speaker 4: early death. Forecast today, we'll have sunny skies. It'll be breezy.
- 11:47Speaker 4: Highs around 78. Right now, 71 in Silver Spring.
- 11:51Speaker 3: And that's the news.
- 11:52Speaker 2: With Toby and Chili in the morning, you get your
- 11:54Speaker 2: top stories at the top of the hour at 97.1
- 11:58Speaker 2: Wash FM. And next, you know, I think we've discovered
- 12:02Speaker 2: the difference between, yeah, I can do that.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Okay, you want me to do that right now? They
- 12:08Speaker 3: asked Americans about some really basic life skills. Basic stuff.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Stuff you have to pull off and you shouldn't need
- 12:15Speaker 3: Google for or YouTube. No instructions.
- 12:18Speaker 2: And next, you'll find out what it is that apparently
- 12:21Speaker 2: we can't do.
- 12:22Speaker 3: It's kind of surprising.
- 12:26Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM. Toby and Chili in the morning. Welcome
- 12:30Speaker 2: to Monday and thanks for letting us be a part
- 12:32Speaker 2: of your life. Chili, I realize there's some things that
- 12:35Speaker 2: I've been an adult long enough that I should know
- 12:37Speaker 2: how to do. But if you took my phone away,
- 12:39Speaker 2: I don't think I could pull it off. I don't.
- 12:42Speaker 2: And I guess I'm not alone because they asked a
- 12:44Speaker 2: bunch of Americans about these basic life skills and what
- 12:48Speaker 2: we can and cannot do is surprising stuff.
- 12:51Speaker 3: What did they find, ma'am?
- 12:53Speaker 4: Well, remember, you've got to ask yourself, can I do
- 12:55Speaker 4: these without any instructions? So when it comes to cooking
- 12:57Speaker 4: white rice, 73% said, yeah, they could definitely do it
- 13:00Speaker 4: right on the spot. About 7% of people didn't feel
- 13:04Speaker 4: so confident about doing that.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Could you.
- 13:06Speaker 4: Cook, white, white. No, you really?
- 13:08Speaker 3: Okay.
- 13:08Speaker 2: I mean, I assume I could probably pull it off
- 13:10Speaker 2: just by reading the directions.
- 13:12Speaker 3: On the back of the box.
- 13:13Speaker 5: No reading directions.
- 13:14Speaker 3: That's not YouTube.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Without any instruction. Okay.
- 13:17Speaker 3: If I had to just walk into your kitchen and
- 13:19Speaker 3: do it?
- 13:19Speaker 2: No.
- 13:19Speaker 4: Yeah. Changing a baby's diaper. 67%. Yeah, they could do
- 13:23Speaker 4: it on the spot.
- 13:24Speaker 3: I'm old hat at changing a baby's diaper.
- 13:26Speaker 4: Yeah, we're both parents.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Parents that's right you don't know till you've done.
- 13:28Speaker 4: It sewing on a button uh this one i'm very
- 13:31Speaker 4: confident in 60 said they could do it and the
- 13:33Speaker 4: reason i'm confident is because i'm the daughter of a
- 13:35Speaker 4: custom tailor.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Yeah you had an unfair family advantage and you i
- 13:39Speaker 2: watched my mimi and my mom sew and i could
- 13:42Speaker 2: get the button on but you know what i can't
- 13:45Speaker 2: do so well i guess you have to like tie
- 13:47Speaker 2: a kind of.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Knot on it yeah you have to knot it in
- 13:49Speaker 3: the back yeah forget about.
- 13:51Speaker 4: That yeah i don't know And then finally, changing a
- 13:53Speaker 4: flat tire. 39% could do it on the spot. So
- 13:56Speaker 4: that's a majority saying they couldn't do it on the spot.
- 13:58Speaker 3: I don't need no YouTube for that.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Because you've actually done it before.
- 14:01Speaker 2: I've done it before, and I think they taught me
- 14:03Speaker 2: that in high school when it was part of the
- 14:05Speaker 2: driver's ed class I took.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Yes, once upon a time, they had a class for that.
- 14:09Speaker 4: Changed a tire. If I had to, I would certainly try,
- 14:13Speaker 4: but I wouldn't trust myself to drive the car after
- 14:15Speaker 4: I made that attempt.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I think you'd be fine, Chili. You could change a
- 14:18Speaker 2: flat tire. It's really simple. You just press that button
- 14:21Speaker 2: in your car that makes a call to the roadside
- 14:24Speaker 2: assistance people.
- 14:25Speaker 4: That's right. That's how I changed the tire.
- 14:27Speaker 3: That's right.
- 14:27Speaker 4: That's what AAA is.
- 14:29Speaker 3: AAA. That annual membership pays for itself. Want to read
- 14:32Speaker 3: more about this? Find it. The Toby and Chili page.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Washfm.com and stay right there because.
- 14:38Speaker 4: Over the weekend, we did something so much fun with
- 14:41Speaker 4: our listeners. It was our VIP experience at Nationals Park
- 14:45Speaker 4: on Saturday. And we've got some stories to share with
- 14:49Speaker 4: you of our day out.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Well, that was a great time the other night, Saturday evening,
- 14:54Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM, Toby and Chili in the morning, escorting
- 14:58Speaker 2: fans to see the Nationals pull off an extra inning win.
- 15:03Speaker 4: Yeah, 6-5 over the Angels. We had our listeners in
- 15:06Speaker 4: the Terra Club with us, sitting right behind home. home plate.
- 15:09Speaker 4: What a great experience. Now I know that was the
- 15:11Speaker 4: first time you attended a game where you needed a
- 15:16Speaker 4: rollator slash cane to get around because of your knee.
- 15:21Speaker 5: Right.
- 15:21Speaker 2: And I have to say, I have nothing but excellent
- 15:23Speaker 2: things to say about the way that the Nationals organization
- 15:27Speaker 2: takes care of people who need a little help. They
- 15:30Speaker 2: have some sort of accessibility need. I did my homework, right,
- 15:34Speaker 2: which is the key. And I did not realize this,
- 15:36Speaker 2: but there's an ADA entrance, special ADA entrance where you
- 15:40Speaker 2: can come in. And they're there to meet you where
- 15:44Speaker 2: you are with your needs. They're prepared to like, you know,
- 15:46Speaker 2: scan rollators and wheelchairs.
- 15:48Speaker 3: And all of this stuff.
- 15:50Speaker 2: And they will get you a wheelchair and wheel you
- 15:55Speaker 2: to where your seats are or close enough.
- 15:58Speaker 4: Wow.
- 15:58Speaker 2: So that you can get right in there to the game.
- 16:02Speaker 2: And because we were sitting where we were sitting, instead
- 16:04Speaker 2: of going up a level and having to deal with
- 16:07Speaker 2: all the stuff on the main concourse, they like snuck
- 16:10Speaker 2: me back around the clubhouse through this thing, literally out
- 16:13Speaker 2: of door.
- 16:14Speaker 3: And I'm like, there's the terror club. And he's like,
- 16:16Speaker 3: here's the number if you need this.
- 16:17Speaker 2: When we come out, just either text the number or
- 16:19Speaker 2: call the number, and we'll send somebody over to you.
- 16:22Speaker 2: They were there for me from the beginning of the
- 16:24Speaker 2: game to the end of the game. Now, after the game,
- 16:27Speaker 2: I will say this. They do close roads. Sometimes if
- 16:30Speaker 2: you have somebody picking you up, maybe it's not going
- 16:32Speaker 2: to be as accessible to that car as maybe it
- 16:36Speaker 2: might have been. They had roads blocked, so I had
- 16:38Speaker 2: to wait and walk to meet them. That was a
- 16:40Speaker 2: little bit of a pain. Overall, 10 out of 10 experience.
- 16:44Speaker 5: And.
- 16:45Speaker 2: You never want to have like one of these things
- 16:48Speaker 2: go on. But I'm glad that the people at the
- 16:51Speaker 2: Nats seem to really respect those fans who have some
- 16:54Speaker 2: challenges so that they can enjoy a great baseball game.
- 16:57Speaker 4: Well, it's a good message for anybody who's sort of
- 16:59Speaker 4: not wanted to go to a game because they're not
- 17:02Speaker 4: sure what kind of services they offer. Hmm. Don't be
- 17:05Speaker 4: afraid to do some homework and figure it out because
- 17:08Speaker 4: they certainly are there for you.
- 17:09Speaker 3: It's simple, guys. Google.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Just Google it and read and follow the directions and
- 17:14Speaker 2: you'll be good to go. But I can't emphasize that
- 17:16Speaker 2: homework enough. Toby and Chili in the morning. It is
- 17:19Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM. Got the news on the way. Top
- 17:22Speaker 2: stories at the top of the hour. Chili, what's going on?

- 17:30Speaker 4: a few.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Thank you. How many times in your life do you
- 17:33Speaker 2: get to go see a legend? You need to take

- 22:36Speaker 4: What is it?
- 22:37Speaker 2: 866-927-4361 is the number if you want to guess and
- 22:42Speaker 2: maybe win.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Hi there. What's your name and where are you from
- 22:45Speaker 3: on this Monday morning?
- 22:47Speaker 4: Hello. Good morning.
- 22:48Speaker 5: This is Joel calling from Manassas.
- 22:50Speaker 3: Well, hello, Joel and Manassas.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Welcome.
- 22:52Speaker 3: You've got the question.
- 22:53Speaker 2: To go see the icon Stevie Wonder when he comes
- 22:56Speaker 2: to town, fire away with your guess.
- 22:59Speaker 5: I'm going to go with protein.
- 23:00Speaker 4: Adding protein is supposed to keep you full all day.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Is there a favorite protein that you like to eat
- 23:05Speaker 4: to keep you full? Because there's a lot of options
- 23:08Speaker 4: out there. Yes. For me, my protein choice is cereal.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Oh, so you get the protein-enhanced cereal.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Yes.
- 23:16Speaker 5: Occasionally, occasionally.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Well, adding protein to your breakfast can help you stay
- 23:21Speaker 4: full longer. That is the answer we were looking for
- 23:24Speaker 4: this morning. So that means you win, Joel.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Congratulations. You're going to go see Stevie Wonder.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Oh, that's great.
- 23:29Speaker 5: He's got a lot of great songs.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Just a few. You know, he's going to be big.

- 23:45Speaker 2: Enjoy the show and go and enjoy your cereal for
- 23:49Speaker 2: breakfast enhanced with protein.
- 23:51Speaker 4: That's on the list today. Awesome.
- 23:53Speaker 3: Have a great day, man.
- 23:54Speaker 4: Hang on.
- 23:54Speaker 2: And we got more Stevie Wonder tickets for you all
- 23:57Speaker 2: this week, right around 7, 10, just after top stories
- 24:01Speaker 2: at the top of the hour. If you want to
- 24:02Speaker 2: see the icon, don't miss a minute of Toby and
- 24:05Speaker 2: Shelly in the morning. These tickets could be yours again tomorrow.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Stay right there because next.
- 24:10Speaker 4: A DC area girl fighting leukemia gave a tennis star
- 24:14Speaker 4: her bracelet. And then months later, She spotted him wearing it.
- 24:19Speaker 2: It's a story we think might just make your Monday
- 24:22Speaker 2: don't go anywhere. Toby and Chili in the morning on
- 24:26Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM. Time now for a story that we
- 24:28Speaker 2: think might just make your Monday. So if you watched
- 24:32Speaker 2: any of the U.S. Open and you watched Ben Shelton,
- 24:34Speaker 2: you might have noticed there was something unusual going on
- 24:37Speaker 2: with his wrist. It was a colorful bracelet tucked over
- 24:41Speaker 2: his sweatpants. And it said, tough like Taylor.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Why is it there? Well, there's a nine-year-old girl in D.C.
- 24:47Speaker 3: named Taylor McLeod who is battling leukemia.
- 24:50Speaker 4: She was diagnosed with B-cell leukemia last December after her
- 24:54Speaker 4: family noticed that she was unusually exhausted during her fall
- 24:58Speaker 4: soccer season. But even through months of chemotherapy, Taylor has
- 25:01Speaker 4: held on to the things that she loves, especially soccer
- 25:04Speaker 4: and the Washington spirit.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Who invited her to be an honorary.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Captain during Cancer Awareness Night. And she got to meet
- 25:11Speaker 2: some of the team's biggest stars, including Trinity Rodman. Now,
- 25:16Speaker 2: that connection led to another incredible introduction. Trinity introduced Taylor
- 25:22Speaker 2: to her boyfriend, who is Ben Shelton, who was in D.C.
- 25:27Speaker 2: for the City Open. And Taylor gave Ben... One of
- 25:32Speaker 2: her bracelets.
- 25:32Speaker 4: So now months later, her family was watching Ben at
- 25:35Speaker 4: the U.S. Open, and there it was, still on his wrist.
- 25:38Speaker 4: And for Taylor's mom, that moment meant so much. While
- 25:41Speaker 4: Taylor spends so much of her time in a hospital room,
- 25:44Speaker 4: seeing athletes she admires wearing her bracelets. was a reminder
- 25:48Speaker 4: that people are thinking about her and cheering her on
- 25:51Speaker 4: and showing up for her.
- 25:53Speaker 2: And Taylor still dreams of playing soccer, but now she
- 25:56Speaker 2: has another goal. She wants to take some tennis lessons
- 25:59Speaker 2: and someday she wants to hit with Ben. For now, though,
- 26:02Speaker 2: she's facing more than a year and a half of
- 26:04Speaker 2: treatment at Children's National.
- 26:06Speaker 4: And her family says the tough like Taylor message has
- 26:09Speaker 4: really become a reminder to find joy wherever they can
- 26:14Speaker 4: and to keep moving forward, even now. when the road
- 26:16Speaker 4: gets a little rough.
- 26:17Speaker 2: That's right. So remember Taylor McLeod from D.C. who's overcoming
- 26:23Speaker 2: one colorful bracelet that just happens to be worn by
- 26:27Speaker 2: sports superstars at a time. It's a story that we
- 26:30Speaker 2: hope makes you Monday. You might want to share it
- 26:32Speaker 2: with somebody who needs a little joy in their life today, too.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Find it on the Toby and Chili page, watchfm.com. And
- 26:37Speaker 2: if you stay there, coming up right around 8, 10,
- 26:39Speaker 2: we got the news, top stories at the top of
- 26:41Speaker 2: the hour.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Chili, what's up?
- 26:42Speaker 4: Coming up in just a few minutes, there's one place
- 26:45Speaker 4: nearly half of us don't want to see your dog,
- 26:48Speaker 4: and the answer might surprise you.
- 26:50Speaker 2: This weekend, it's live from Vegas in the T-Mobile Arena,
- 26:55Speaker 2: our iHeartRadio music festival presented by our friends over at
- 26:58Speaker 2: Tyson's at Capital One. Are you going to be in Vegas?
- 27:03Speaker 2: If so, you're lucky. The rest of us, though, will
- 27:05Speaker 2: be in our living rooms.
- 27:06Speaker 4: We're going to be listening on the iHeartRadio app or
- 27:09Speaker 4: streaming it live on Disney Plus and Hulu.
- 27:13Speaker 2: It's 97.1 Wash FM. Don't forget to watch. We're Toby
- 27:16Speaker 2: and Chili in the morning.
- 27:17Speaker 1: 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington.
- 27:21Speaker 5: An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories, top of
- 27:25Speaker 5: the hour.
- 27:26Speaker 4: Kennedy Center officials warn that the building could close as
- 27:29Speaker 4: early as tomorrow. We've got the latest on that story
- 27:33Speaker 4: and others on the way. With Toby and Chili in
- 27:36Speaker 4: the morning on 97.1 WASH-FM.
- 27:42Speaker 5: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 27:44Speaker 4: The president says the U.S. could stay in Iran to
- 27:47Speaker 4: keep its oil, comparing it to the recent Venezuela oil deal. Now,
- 27:51Speaker 4: he added that the war there would wrap up after
- 27:53Speaker 4: the midterms. Meanwhile, the president is also standing by his
- 27:56Speaker 4: remarks on Irish unification. He sparked controversy over the weekend
- 28:01Speaker 4: by predicting a united Ireland is coming, quote, eventually. A
- 28:05Speaker 4: man died after he was shot overnight in the parking
- 28:08Speaker 4: lot of Quincy's Potomac Bar and Grill. According to Montgomery
- 28:12Speaker 4: County Police, no arrests have been made and they have
- 28:14Speaker 4: not released the victim's identity or a motive. Kennedy Center
- 28:19Speaker 4: officials warn that the building could close as early as tomorrow,
- 28:23Speaker 4: citing possible bankruptcy and safety concerns after this month's storm damage.
- 28:27Speaker 4: The Washington Post reports the center's board says the only
- 28:30Speaker 4: way to secure funding is to put the president's name
- 28:34Speaker 4: back on the building. Ground has broken on a new
- 28:37Speaker 4: $ 100 million visitor education center near the Pentagon's 9-11 memorial,
- 28:43Speaker 4: a project two decades in the making, and it's meant
- 28:46Speaker 4: to help future generations understand the September 11th attacks. The
- 28:51Speaker 4: commanders opened the season 0-1 after they fell 24-22 to
- 28:57Speaker 4: the Eagles yesterday. And a new survey finds nearly half
- 29:01Speaker 4: of shoppers get really irritated seeing a dog out in public.
- 29:06Speaker 4: restaurants top the list of no-go zones, followed by grocery
- 29:11Speaker 4: stores and doctor's offices. Forecast for today, it's going to
- 29:14Speaker 4: be really lovely, sunny and breezy, highs around 78. Right now,
- 29:18Speaker 4: 72 in Chevy Chase.
- 29:20Speaker 3: And that's the news. You're good to go for today.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Thanks to Top Stories at the top of the hour,
- 29:25Speaker 2: which you get with Toby and Chilling in the Morning,
- 29:28Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM. All right, old school tech, you're not
- 29:33Speaker 2: giving it up. There are people who are so nostalgic
- 29:36Speaker 2: for old school digital cameras, burned CDs, iPods, not the phone,
- 29:42Speaker 2: you know, the iPod, only the music, right?
- 29:45Speaker 3: Even ringtones. What do you still have that you actually
- 29:48Speaker 3: love to use?
- 29:50Speaker 2: Hit the talk back on your iHeart app or call 866-927-4361.
- 29:54Speaker 3: We would love to hear yours.
- 29:56Speaker 2: This is 97.1 Wash FM.
- 29:59Speaker 3: Toby, it's silly in the morning.
- 30:00Speaker 1: All right.
- 30:00Speaker 2: I know you got one of these somewhere. Some piece
- 30:02Speaker 2: of old school tech or something. Old school period that
- 30:06Speaker 2: everybody says you don't need any more trash and recycle it,
- 30:08Speaker 2: but you refuse to.
- 30:10Speaker 3: Let it go.
- 30:11Speaker 1: What?
- 30:12Speaker 2: TalkBack on the iHeart app is wide open, so is 866-927-4361.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Let's talk about what you're still using.
- 30:18Speaker 4: Well, number one on the list, people saying they miss
- 30:21Speaker 4: taking photos on a digital camera.
- 30:23Speaker 2: I've always said that in a digital world, analog is better.
- 30:26Speaker 2: And I know we're talking about vintage digital cameras, but
- 30:28Speaker 2: you know, that leads you back to another thing that
- 30:30Speaker 2: I won't get rid of is a film camera.
- 30:32Speaker 4: Oh, those are really good. High quality. But you know,
- 30:36Speaker 4: we don't have the patience like we did back in
- 30:38Speaker 4: the day to wait for it to get developed. No.
- 30:42Speaker 4: photo moto photo places.
- 30:44Speaker 3: I don't think they have moto photo anymore.
- 30:47Speaker 4: But you know that was how we did it it
- 30:48Speaker 4: is people miss picking a ringtone for their mobile phone
- 30:52Speaker 4: i thought you still could am i.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Wrong no you can but it was more fun back
- 30:56Speaker 2: in the days when there weren't screens and apps.
- 31:00Speaker 4: And number three burning cds for your friends or family Well,
- 31:04Speaker 4: you could still make a playlist on iHeartRadio app.
- 31:07Speaker 3: Or Spotify or whatever.
- 31:09Speaker 2: It just doesn't hit the same way, Chili. You want
- 31:12Speaker 2: to know what makes it even more cool of a feeling?
- 31:15Speaker 4: Oh, my goodness.
- 31:16Speaker 2: If you actually make a mixtape, you know, like where
- 31:18Speaker 2: you have to pause and line it right up.
- 31:21Speaker 4: No, that was annoying. The only old school tech I'm
- 31:24Speaker 4: still hanging on to is not tech at all. It's
- 31:27Speaker 4: just a daily planner, like a paper daily planner, because
- 31:30Speaker 4: I love having something tangible to flip open and see
- 31:35Speaker 4: what my day holds as opposed to something on my phone.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Speaking of phones, Abby, good morning in Hyattsville. What old
- 31:42Speaker 2: school thing are you still rocking?
- 31:44Speaker 5: I still have an iPod. I know my phone does
- 31:47Speaker 5: everything an iPod does, but I love having one device
- 31:50Speaker 5: that is literally just music.
- 31:52Speaker 4: And what's the advantage of that?
- 31:53Speaker 5: No text, no notifications, no distractions.
- 31:56Speaker 2: You know, some would say that sounds glorious, Abby. Thank
- 32:00Speaker 2: you for reminding us. And thanks for the call. Have
- 32:02Speaker 2: a great day today. Spencer in Arlington, what you rocking?
- 32:05Speaker 5: I still have a VCR.
- 32:07Speaker 4: Do you still use it?
- 32:08Speaker 3: I actually enjoy it.
- 32:09Speaker 4: I had a lot of old tapes and, you know,
- 32:11Speaker 4: just like the nostalgia of it all. Plus the sounds
- 32:13Speaker 4: of the machine playing and rewinding.
- 32:18Speaker 3: Oddly comforting.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Street art is the best art, especially when you have
- 32:22Speaker 2: pro artists painting colorful murals all over your neighborhood, like
- 32:27Speaker 2: in Noma, downtown in D.C.
- 32:29Speaker 3: It's 97.1 Wash FM. Tell me you're chilly in the morning.
- 32:31Speaker 4: The 10th annual mural festival wraps up today. 20 new
- 32:36Speaker 4: murals throughout Noma, all for free. So check it out.
- 32:40Speaker 2: And now over two hours, commercial free music continues. 97.1
- 32:43Speaker 2: Wash FM with the Biebs. You're over the whole pumpkin
- 32:48Speaker 2: spice thing. You want to really embrace the flavors and
- 32:52Speaker 2: smells and the feelings of fall. It's 97.1 Watch FM.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Tell me you're chilly in the morning.
- 32:58Speaker 4: You got to go check out Great Country Farms in Bluemont, Virginia.
- 33:01Speaker 4: They've got their corn maze and apple harvest. It's one
- 33:04Speaker 4: of the best early fall family outings. Apple picking, cider donuts,
