- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm at the World's Least Humble marine. It's one more thing.
- 0:03Speaker 1: I'm strong and getty. Two things is a setup to
- 0:13Speaker 1: this story from my vacation one. It's just been in
- 0:20Speaker 1: the last few years. I feel like that they've started
- 0:22Speaker 1: breaking down intelligence into different groups. Yeah, it used to
- 0:26Speaker 1: be smarter dumb, but now there's different kinds of intelligence,
- 0:30Speaker 1: including emotional intelligence. And I ran into a guy who
- 0:32Speaker 1: had very low emotional intelligence or whatever ability it is
- 0:37Speaker 1: that some people have or don't have to read a
- 0:39Speaker 1: room to read other people's body language or faces or whatever, right,
- 0:45Speaker 1: and it's amazing. I mean I have run into several people.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I know some people that are very high on that,
- 0:50Speaker 1: Like I think Trump is extraordinarily high on that. He
- 0:54Speaker 1: probably actually is genius level when it comes to emotional intelligence.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I think a lot of successful people probably are. But
- 0:59Speaker 1: I've know some really smart, successful people that seem to
- 1:03Speaker 1: have like zero I mean, they're like imbeciles when it
- 1:05Speaker 1: comes to emotional intelligence. And I met one on vacation.
- 1:10Speaker 1: As I said, the World's Least humble marine, and yes,
- 1:15Speaker 1: go ahead.
- 1:16Speaker 2: I was just gonna say, do you think a decent
- 1:18Speaker 2: description of emotional intelligence is understanding? How the other person
- 1:24Speaker 2: is receiving an exchange.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Perceiving that absolutely, And it seems to me the people
- 1:33Speaker 1: that are really bad at it have never even considered
- 1:35Speaker 1: the idea of wondering how the people are reacting to them.
- 1:39Speaker 2: It's kind of like, truly, the h you have no
- 1:42Speaker 2: idea how bad you or the more dumb you are,
- 1:45Speaker 2: the smarter you think you are, one of those things.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and everyone asked that question. Yeah, it's the whole
- 1:49Speaker 1: incompetent people don't know they're incompetent. And I guess that's
- 1:51Speaker 1: true on all topics and my experience with military people
- 1:56Speaker 1: as we've Joe and I have done so many things
- 1:59Speaker 1: with so many military people over the years, and we
- 2:01Speaker 1: both have family members in the military. Military people tend
- 2:03Speaker 1: to be pretty humble just the way they are, and
- 2:07Speaker 1: the higher up the food chain you go in that
- 2:09Speaker 1: the more likely they are to be humble, Like Special
- 2:12Speaker 1: Forces dudes, super humble guys you would never know they were.
- 2:17Speaker 1: And most Marines I've ever met in my life were
- 2:20Speaker 1: like that also, except for this guy. So I'm on
- 2:23Speaker 1: vacation and my son and I is actually going to
- 2:29Speaker 1: be both my boys and I were going to take
- 2:30Speaker 1: this boat trip. It's like this inflatable boat probably fit
- 2:35Speaker 1: fifteen to twenty people on it, maybe a couple of motors,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and you're going to go out on the ocean and
- 2:40Speaker 1: it was described as a pretty rough ride and then
- 2:43Speaker 1: you ride around in the ocean and then there's going
- 2:45Speaker 1: to be some snarkling and then a ride back and
- 2:47Speaker 1: has a pretty long trip. It was like three hours total,
- 2:50Speaker 1: but anyway they made it clear is really rough. And
- 2:51Speaker 1: then my youngest son decided he didn't want to do it,
- 2:54Speaker 1: and thank god he made that decision because he would
- 2:56Speaker 1: have never been able to handle it. It was grueling,
- 2:59Speaker 1: I mean it and yeah, you had to you had
- 3:01Speaker 1: to have your feet underneath these straps and then you
- 3:03Speaker 1: had to hang on with both hands to these other ropes.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Have you done this before? I have?
- 3:08Speaker 3: And these boats are not a smooth ride.
- 3:09Speaker 1: No, no, super rough and you like had to hang
- 3:12Speaker 1: on really hard with your legs and your arms to
- 3:14Speaker 1: stay in the boat. It was and it was hours
- 3:17Speaker 1: of this and it is a pretty physically grueling thing
- 3:22Speaker 1: to do. And it was fun, but I mean you'd
- 3:24Speaker 1: go over waves and land and boom, and it's just
- 3:26Speaker 1: like such a jolt to your spine. I mean it
- 3:29Speaker 1: was it was wrong. AnyWho, So before we got on
- 3:33Speaker 1: the boat, there's a young dude in a bucket hat, sunglasses,
- 3:38Speaker 1: and a this is on the fourth of July, a red,
- 3:41Speaker 1: white and blue speedo. And he's a super fit guy,
- 3:47Speaker 1: like big guy, guessing like six two two ten, very fit,
- 3:53Speaker 1: very muscular dude.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Just to clarify, the bucket hat, the sunglasses, the speedo
- 3:59Speaker 2: and nothing else.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Correct, Okay, all right, he had flip flops on. Well,
- 4:05Speaker 1: grandmom have a pair of flip flops, red white and
- 4:07Speaker 1: blues speedo and and you know, there's a variety of
- 4:13Speaker 1: groups so like husbands and wives or boyfriends and girlfriends,
- 4:16Speaker 1: or like me and my son. And then he's by
- 4:17Speaker 1: himself and they talk about before we're gonna get on
- 4:22Speaker 1: the boat. The captain who is a super cool dude,
- 4:25Speaker 1: really really cool dude. He was six years in the
- 4:28Speaker 1: Coastguard and then he's run other big ships around the world,
- 4:31Speaker 1: and he piloted this thing and he went in and
- 4:33Speaker 1: out of rocks. I mean, he's like one of the
- 4:34Speaker 1: most confident people I've ever been around in my life.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I wish I was like him. He was military, so
- 4:40Speaker 1: that factors into the story because he was like your
- 4:42Speaker 1: regular military guy, kind of humble and you know, not
- 4:46Speaker 1: trying to show off or anything like that. So he
- 4:48Speaker 1: tells us where all to sit on the boat, and
- 4:50Speaker 1: you know, if you really want to smoother ride, sit
- 4:54Speaker 1: in the back. It gets rougher as you go toward
- 4:55Speaker 1: the front. And then if like you're really worried about this,
- 4:58Speaker 1: sit in the miller middle pillar. So there are some
- 5:00Speaker 1: older people that sat in the middle pillar, some girls dead,
- 5:03Speaker 1: and it kind of spread out, and my son and
- 5:05Speaker 1: I were up toward the front. Marine guy takes front,
- 5:08Speaker 1: sea I'll take front, And guy said, okay, cool, you're sure,
- 5:12Speaker 1: and he said, I'm semper fie man, I don't worry
- 5:14Speaker 1: about it. Oh so, right off the bat, Marines never
- 5:18Speaker 1: freaking tell you you're the a marine unless it comes
- 5:21Speaker 1: up in conversation. The fact that he just said that
- 5:24Speaker 1: right there is the first time I've ever heard that
- 5:26Speaker 1: in my life. At the guy in the speedo. So
- 5:29Speaker 1: he gets up there and he's sitting toward the front,
- 5:31Speaker 1: and we take off on the boat and he's just
- 5:35Speaker 1: non stop talking the whole time, never stops talking, talking
- 5:38Speaker 1: to the captain, talking to all the girls around him.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Of course, non stop chatterbox caught it. I don't know
- 5:43Speaker 1: how many times he mentioned he was a marine or
- 5:44Speaker 1: he was simperfie, way too many times, not hanging on
- 5:48Speaker 1: to any of the rogues. He would just fly up
- 5:49Speaker 1: in the air and land and kind of balance some stuff. See,
- 5:51Speaker 1: I don't need to hang on. I'm semper fine.
- 5:54Speaker 4: And I hate him already, I know, I know.
- 5:58Speaker 1: And it gets worse. So they're going around and so
- 6:01Speaker 1: they start handing out The captain starts handing out gloves.
- 6:04Speaker 1: He said, your your your knuckles are going to get
- 6:07Speaker 1: rubbed bloody holding onto the ropes against the canvas of
- 6:10Speaker 1: the boats. Let me guess. So if you want to
- 6:13Speaker 1: wear gloves, you can get him. He said, I don't
- 6:14Speaker 1: need them, And the captain cee, I didn't know you'd
- 6:17Speaker 1: take any captain city. The captain is already tired of this.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Dude.
- 6:21Speaker 1: You can tell. Captain says, uh, yeah, I didn't figure
- 6:23Speaker 1: you'd want to. Of course, not sient for five. We
- 6:25Speaker 1: don't use gloves, Okay, we get it. Dude, You've made
- 6:29Speaker 1: it clear to everyone on this tiny boat who's hurt
- 6:32Speaker 1: you already. You were in the Marines he's actually still
- 6:34Speaker 1: with the Marines. But you're a tough guy. We all
- 6:38Speaker 1: fully understand the whole dynamic of what's going on.
- 6:41Speaker 3: We just stipulate that move on. We get it, and
- 6:44Speaker 3: it's neat okay.
- 6:45Speaker 1: So we're on this boat ride and the captain points
- 6:48Speaker 1: out a couple of hikes and swims that people do
- 6:51Speaker 1: in this touristy area on the ocean, and he talks
- 6:54Speaker 1: about this one. It's a seventeen mile hike and swim.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Not very many people do it. Do it? Do it?
- 6:59Speaker 1: It's really really hard to do. It's really grueling. You
- 7:01Speaker 1: have to be like an expert swimmer. Marine voices, I
- 7:05Speaker 1: just did it, did it yesterday. I didn't think it
- 7:07Speaker 1: was that big a deal. I'm not kidding. I'm not kidding.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Act Oh, this is why you go ahead, he says,
- 7:16Speaker 3: when you go whoops.
- 7:16Speaker 4: And accidentally just donkey kick him off the side of
- 7:19Speaker 4: the bove.
- 7:20Speaker 2: You know, if only his dad had told him like once,
- 7:23Speaker 2: I'm proud of you, son, or a good job.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Oh wow, you think that's it? Uh, that could be
- 7:28Speaker 1: it and not a shock that he was by himself.
- 7:30Speaker 1: But so he had done this grueling like seventeen mile
- 7:34Speaker 1: coastal swim or whatever. And the captain, the coastguard veteran
- 7:38Speaker 1: guy was pretty impersonally said wow, you did that, and
- 7:41Speaker 1: he said, yeah, I didn't think it was that much.
- 7:42Speaker 1: And he said, I don't know how many people have
- 7:45Speaker 1: done that? Were you with some people? Say? I was
- 7:46Speaker 1: by myself. He said, man, that's not a very good idea.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I usually suggest if people are going to do that
- 7:50Speaker 1: swim they have a boat with him or nah, that
- 7:52Speaker 1: says a marine guy. Okay, fine, we get that going.
- 7:55Speaker 1: But here's here's the ending of my story. This is
- 7:57Speaker 1: my favorite part of the whole thing. The cap and
- 8:01Speaker 1: super cool guy has a big speaker on his boat
- 8:03Speaker 1: and he's blasting music the whole time, which made it
- 8:05Speaker 1: kind of fun. And he's got like a bunch of
- 8:08Speaker 1: different cool songs, so Jimmy Buffett tunes and different stuff
- 8:10Speaker 1: like that and just you know, kind of songs that
- 8:12Speaker 1: people would like. And then this song comes on, Michael,
- 8:17Speaker 1: So that song starts and the marine says, hey, you
- 8:22Speaker 1: know what I call this song, Captain psych what Freeballin'?
- 8:27Speaker 1: Oh no, he's like, what freeballin'? You know, you haven't
- 8:31Speaker 1: ever heard that term freeballin' it's like when guys don't
- 8:34Speaker 1: wear underwear. We call it freeballin. And I wanted to
- 8:37Speaker 1: say to him, everybody got it, dude, we all understood
- 8:41Speaker 1: from the first moment you said that you're pun, You're
- 8:44Speaker 1: you're fantastic pun. We just thought it was like coursing uncool,
- 8:49Speaker 1: and there's you know, there are a couple of they're
- 8:51Speaker 1: not children on here, but there's a couple of like
- 8:53Speaker 1: high school girls or whatever, not appropriate content for them
- 8:57Speaker 1: or whatever. So then when it gets to the chorus,
- 8:59Speaker 1: the horse comes on and he stands up. So now
- 9:02Speaker 1: free balling, like really, emphasize again it frea come on,
- 9:06Speaker 1: everybody's free balling.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Are you are you Tessnicles Michael You're right, yes, fair good.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I actually thought, at one point, are you a Saturday
- 9:16Speaker 1: Night Live bit?
- 9:17Speaker 2: I was gonna ask, are you in the background of
- 9:19Speaker 2: some jackass ish video you're reacting to? That's wow?
- 9:25Speaker 1: It was amazing.
- 9:27Speaker 4: This guy sounds cringe from start to finish. Every part
- 9:30Speaker 4: of this.
- 9:30Speaker 3: I hate Oh.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it was just it was tough, and I didn't
- 9:34Speaker 1: know if my son was picking up on it or not.
- 9:35Speaker 1: But when we got off the body, he was like, God,
- 9:37Speaker 1: that guy was an ad you know whole Oh yeah,
- 9:42Speaker 1: everybody and the captain just trying to ignore it. Now,
- 9:45Speaker 1: what do you call it? Free balling? Okay? Do you
- 9:49Speaker 1: get it? Yeah? I get it. We all get it.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Everybody gets it. See the problems. And that's where I
- 9:53Speaker 1: come in with the emotional intelligence thing. I mean, it
- 9:56Speaker 1: was clear all of us looking around that we I mean,
- 9:58Speaker 1: we're all looking at each other. We all I felt
- 10:00Speaker 1: exactly the same way, and I would like to It's
- 10:03Speaker 1: like an experiment as a sociologist to talk to the
- 10:07Speaker 1: guy and say, are you really not picking up on
- 10:11Speaker 1: any of the cues that everybody on this boat is giving?
- 10:16Speaker 1: That one? They're tired of hearing you talk too. They
- 10:19Speaker 1: don't think your course jokes are funny, like you really
- 10:22Speaker 1: that hasn't sunk into you at all?
- 10:24Speaker 3: Was he drinking?
- 10:25Speaker 1: No? Okay?
- 10:27Speaker 3: Do you think he was a real marine or was
- 10:28Speaker 3: he just being I.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Think man, I definitely think he's a real marine. And
- 10:31Speaker 1: he had all the They talked a lot about what
- 10:34Speaker 1: base you been on and when you get out and
- 10:35Speaker 1: blah blah blah. He had too much knowledge about it.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I think his marine. I just think he I think
- 10:39Speaker 1: he's a super stud athlete, really good looking guy. So
- 10:42Speaker 1: the uh the there's a captain, and then there's another
- 10:46Speaker 1: person who's like the tour guide and talks and takes
- 10:48Speaker 1: lots of pictures. And she was like twenty five and
- 10:52Speaker 1: super attractive. She went up to the front to sit
- 10:54Speaker 1: by him at one point, like when we first started,
- 10:56Speaker 1: because I think she was singing, here's a single guy,
- 10:58Speaker 1: good looking guy. I'm good looking girl, I'm gonna talk.
- 11:00Speaker 1: She was up there like five minutes, went back to
- 11:01Speaker 1: the back of the boat.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Okay, from the department of this is why you're single.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Dude, you know er number one?
- 11:13Speaker 2: Well, I'll skip to this second point reminds me of
- 11:16Speaker 2: a dude I ran into in Lama's classes when Judy
- 11:21Speaker 2: was pregnant with her first and it was so obviously
- 11:25Speaker 2: a case where a big stud dumb ass found himself
- 11:30Speaker 2: some hot dumb chick and the two of them got
- 11:33Speaker 2: together and pretty quickly started to make each other insane.
- 11:37Speaker 2: And he is so clearly headed.
- 11:39Speaker 3: For that sort of future he is.
- 11:41Speaker 2: He's got to be in the outermost, like three percent
- 11:44Speaker 2: of utterly clueless.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Right, And man, imagine how difficult that is to make
- 11:50Speaker 1: it through life. If you can't read other people's reactions
- 11:53Speaker 1: to you at all.
- 11:55Speaker 4: Yeah, and you're standing on a boat, screaming, freeballing right
- 12:00Speaker 4: in a family setting.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it wouldn't been It wouldn't have been
- 12:04Speaker 1: funny if we'd all been nineteen year old dudes. It's
- 12:07Speaker 1: still yeah, we get it, We got it right at
- 12:09Speaker 1: the beginning. You don't need to sing it.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:12Speaker 4: There was no way for the captain to make him
- 12:15Speaker 4: accidentally fall overboard.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Huh.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Yeah, Well, I was just gonna say, karma really demanded that.
- 12:20Speaker 2: When the boat flew up in the air, he smacked
- 12:22Speaker 2: down hard, maybe on them, you know, Karma punishing him
- 12:26Speaker 2: for his well, the aforementioned sins.
- 12:30Speaker 1: And I thought kind of what you were thinking there,
- 12:33Speaker 1: is like, how many women have fallen for this good
- 12:36Speaker 1: looking studley dude and how long did it take him
- 12:40Speaker 1: to figure out? And or is the reverse? Is this
- 12:43Speaker 1: the really dumb hot chick that guys put up with
- 12:47Speaker 1: for a while.
- 12:47Speaker 2: I don't know, but I see him connecting with either
- 12:50Speaker 2: the and forgive me for referencing it in anyway, but
- 12:54Speaker 2: the hawk twak girl who was viral for a cup
- 12:57Speaker 2: of coffee or the two stupid good looking chicks who
- 13:01Speaker 2: stole the girl scouts money?
- 13:02Speaker 1: Who?
- 13:02Speaker 2: We've played the clips of whoa Right many times? Well,
- 13:08Speaker 2: they had the money and I wanted it. He'll end
- 13:11Speaker 2: up with one of them or both of them, probably.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Speaking of a Hawk two egg girl, I just want
- 13:16Speaker 3: to let you know.
- 13:17Speaker 4: I was at a bar over our vacation and my
- 13:20Speaker 4: husband was elsewhere. So this guy came up and stood
- 13:23Speaker 4: next to me and went, hey, I just want to
- 13:25Speaker 4: let you know. You look just like the Hawk two
- 13:27Speaker 4: E girl. Oh, And I said, first of all, no,
- 13:30Speaker 4: I don't. Second of all, is that your opening line?
- 13:33Speaker 4: That's what you're going up to chicks now and saying?
- 13:35Speaker 4: So anyway, I'm apparently the other Hawk two E girl.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I got a marine, buddy, I think you should beat
- 13:40Speaker 2: it to you and get along great.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I must say, I don't know what you guys are referencing.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Good Yeah, is it worth explaining?
- 13:49Speaker 2: I will explain it in my usual cultured and reserved manner.
- 13:55Speaker 2: She was asked by some street interviewer is there something
- 13:59Speaker 2: you do that always drives guys crazy? And she described
- 14:02Speaker 2: a bit of an act, including that memorable phrase, and
- 14:07Speaker 2: it went viral and she got a deal and put
- 14:09Speaker 2: out one hundred thousand dollars worth of merchandise in three
- 14:12Speaker 2: eight hours.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Yeah, sorts of stuff.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Oh yeah, she's gotten IQ is seventy six.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Jack Bryan, the country star brought her up on stage
- 14:22Speaker 4: during one of his concerts.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Yeah, it's gotten out of control.
- 14:25Speaker 2: It's Andy Warhol's fifteen minutes of fame, just on steroids.
- 14:30Speaker 1: See, I could see this marine if he was at
- 14:32Speaker 1: a concert. I could see them bringing him up on
- 14:35Speaker 1: stage in his red, white and blue speedo because he
- 14:37Speaker 1: looked like a model. Yeah, you know, and him getting
- 14:40Speaker 1: and becoming something briefly.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Introduce her to the horny dip s backstage, and maybe
- 14:46Speaker 2: they matchmaking a couple of clueless babies together.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Certainly not dumb dumb babies who can't read the room.
- 14:54Speaker 3: But are hot.
- 14:55Speaker 2: At least they're hot.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Well, I guess that's it. Uh,
