- 0:23SPEAKER_01: It's four quarters of fun right here on the Mike Blitz podcast.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: Mike, over to you, buddy.
- 0:33SPEAKER_02: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Mike Blitz.
- 0:35SPEAKER_02: We are back after a crazy week of football.
- 0:37SPEAKER_02: I'm your host, Mike Wade, my co-host over there, Darren Steadman, and Mark Franzen.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: Man, this was just a week for like the eons, ages.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: Just bloodshed, chaos, craziness.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Take the field.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Whatever you do, choose chaos.
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: Take the field.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: Take the field.
- 0:57SPEAKER_02: You know, I've just I feel like as as a as my team won this week, 31-0, which we'll get into.
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: I just this feels like one of those weeks where I'm just grateful that I didn't lose because there were so many good teams go down, like so many costly uh losses for teams, like just so many people's seasons that took a U-turn they weren't supposed to.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: So I'm just grateful.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: You know, this was a good, just like survive in advance week.
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: I feel like for if you're in the top 25.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: Like if you got the W, survive in advance and be grateful.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: It goes for all three of us, too.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Mark's feeling pretty grateful to not take a loss as well.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: You can't lose when you don't play.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: How how'd you get fired on your day off?
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Mark survived.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: My hokies survived a small scare in the middle of the game, and Michael just thrived.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: You're one of the few thrivers, uh favorite, you know, if lay the favorite teams.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and obviously it's nice.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: Get get getting an SEC win, I'll never take it, never take for granted.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: But obviously, with Camario and Fluff out, you know, the the outcome really was never in question.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: But we'll talk about that when we get to the homers.
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: Uh, let's go talk about the program tonight.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: Tonight we're gonna do a quick debrief of parlay.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: Rough week.
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: We were in we were in we were really hitting our stride for a minute there, but we have uh we have taken a couple shots and we're gonna get we're gonna get off the mat and get back next week.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: But we went three and five, which is tough.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: So we'll we'll quickly run through those.
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: Um, we're gonna talk about what did we learn.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: We each have three or four or five uh interesting key takeaways.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: We'll do a quick whip of the homers, report on those.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: We're gonna do a little pick six, and then we're gonna get out of here.
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: So we got tons of great college football action.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: Do either of you actually have the the the parlay in front of you?
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: I actually don't have it in front of me.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: What happened last week?
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: It was not good.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: We lost my three third.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: That's what I remember.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, it was Northwest.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: I think Northwestern let us down.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Yes, it was.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Oh, I got it.
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: Here we go.
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: So we hit we hit Ohio to Indiana under, uh uh Florida, Texas under.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: So it started good.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: We started 2-0 on our two unders, and then Northwestern uh they did not make it past Michigan State.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: They won, didn't cover Missouri, old Miss.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: Missouri just failed to launch.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: They won, they only won.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: There's only 34 points in that game.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: Uh Ole Miss defense came alive.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: Um, Miami, Florida, we missed that.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: Minus 11 and a half first half.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: Uh Florida State came to play.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: Notre Dame BYU.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: We almost got that one.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: We had under 46.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: The final, the final was like 52.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: Like we were right there, one score.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: Alt, Kentucky, Alt plus 7.5.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: I wish I talked you guys into betting that game to win, man.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: The Wildcats, wild.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: And then my favorite bet all week finally let me down.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: The Utah Utes eated by an ugly Colorado.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: Do any of you have any like, oh, we should have seen those coming takes on those five misses?
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: Because I'm not sure that I do this week.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: No.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: No, that's the story of the weekend.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Didn't didn't see that coming times 20.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: That was the story of the weekend.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: I mean, Colorado, honestly, we're like, okay, we're gonna salvage, you know, some sort of respect by you know, Utah blasting Colorado.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Nope.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: That went, yep, that went down to the wire.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: It's just absolute bananas.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: I think that's what's been so awesome about this season, though, is like there's no I've said it before, but there's no front runner right now.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: It is, it is, it is chaos.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: There's every team in the top 20 has a chance to beat any other team any weekend.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: If the time is right for them, it's it's it's wonderful.
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: It feels like a keep your head in your swivel type experience we're we're living through right now.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: Just like in everything, don't take anything for granted.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: Do not take wins for granted, do not take road wins for granted because everything is just gonna be tough sledding.
- 4:31SPEAKER_02: So anyway, we'll get you at the new part of when we record uh next.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: We'll talk about next week, but uh sorry for the rough week.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: Three and five, not our best work, but we will be back.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: I fear not.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Of course, I did the round robin stuff this weekend too.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, me too.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: I was yeah, god, yeah, it was bad.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: It was bad.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: We were we were all drinking our Kool-Aid a little bit too much uh this past week.
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, we all got home.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: That's okay.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: That is okay.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: Good reality check.
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: Uh all right, uh Mark, I'm gonna kick it over to you.
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: What are we doing next?
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Uh we're gonna go through four quarters of fun.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: We're gonna look at what did we learn?
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Um, going from smallest to the largest thing you learned over this past weekend of football.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Sounds good.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: Who wants to start?
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: Who's got the first one?
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: I can go first.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: Uh Kentucky.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: Kentucky is six and one.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: They are ranked number 12.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: But the only reason they beat Oklahoma was because of those four turnovers and um and Oklahoma shooting themselves in the foot.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: They only put up 230 total yards.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Um and while they have one, I want to say, four in a row at least, after that Alabama loss, I think they're uh they have a rude awakening coming up for them soon.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: Um I'm not even sure who they have next, but I think they're I think they're the gas is about to run out of the tank for Kentucky.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: They've got Vanderbilt at home, which they should take care of, and then a bye, but then it's at Tennessee versus Florida, at Missouri, versus Louisville.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: And Louisville's kind of upstart.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: So like I certainly see more.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, you know, I I've I unfortunately have the the uh the awful job of being Kentucky fan since they beat us.
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: You know, the more they win, the better we are.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: But I've also I'm I'm not I'm not surprised they they beat Oklahoma.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: I'm not expecting them to go 10-2, 11-1.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: I think they got some losses coming.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that six and one story is gonna get real ugly for a lot of SEC teams, too.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: They're all gonna cannibalize each other, as we say, and just tear each other down to three loss teams across the board.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Feels a little frauddy, feels a little fraudy.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: But on the on the opposite of fraud, I'll do the next one.
- 6:35SPEAKER_02: Indiana, still super tough, man.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: I was kind of sleeping on them.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: I was critical of their terrible non-con.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: I still am.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: Indiana play a better non-conference schedule.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: That's shame on y'all.
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: Um, and they looked a little soft against Nebraska and Northwestern, I think it was.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: They're tough as nails.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: They are a strong team, they are physical to the point of attack.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: Um, Nick Marsh, despite being out by four inches, I mean, oh my god, they were so close to winning that game.
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: They're good.
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm expecting Indiana to be in it until the end.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: There are two certified superstar teams in uh the Big Ten.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: We fought it was three, Oregon's not one of them.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: Indiana, or it's it's it's an Indiana and Ohio State show until it's not.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: That's one of my big takeaway from that.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: Uh epic battle.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Do you know who impressed me was the defensive line from Indiana?
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: There were so many stops when Ohio State had the ball and going.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: And it was like, dude, how are they?
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Like, that's what impressed me the most about Indiana.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: Because I was a I was a little like I was on suswatch, as the kids would say.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Uh being like, there's something about this team.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: They're gonna, either they're gonna get blown out or something's gonna fall apart for them.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: But dang, man.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Um, that defensive line in the red zone was exceptional against Ohio State.
- 7:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they held them to 320 yards.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's a good day.
- 7:49SPEAKER_02: Anytime you hold Ohio State to 320 yards, you gotta be feeling pretty good about yourself.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: Uh, four sacks, six tackles for loss.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, five pass defended.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah, they played Indiana is tough.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: I am this loss is a bummer for Indiana because they probably could have had it.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: I mean, literally one foot, one foot.
- 8:05SPEAKER_02: They would have taken the three-point lead with less than a minute to go.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: You probably think they would have held them off by then, especially with Julian Saiyan out of the game.
- 8:12SPEAKER_02: So I really do think that one foot out of bounds cost Indiana the game, but that's the difference between these two teams.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: They are so close, so good, and they are sitting, in my opinion, right here in the top of the Big Ten.
- 8:22SPEAKER_02: Everybody else is somewhere below.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Got something similar to which is that JMU coaches rule.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, I mean line.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: Um I mentioned this a little bit, but I want to go into depth just a little bit more.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: You've got three three teams right now, and one of them, like you said, Indiana.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: The thing that impressed me at the end was that they had the game won with a pass on fourth down to the end zone to one of the best receivers in the league, and it was a fourth and four, and they simply threw a very easy touchdown pass.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: He was wide open.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: And it didn't, and it and it didn't hit right.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: So and Nick Marsh had, you know, a a one and a million miss, but they easily should have won that game.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, it was like right there.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: And and what I'm talking about is Coach Signetti had the play.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: I mean, that coaching staff, they were on fourth down, they didn't care.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: They're going for the score.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: He was by himself, he left his defender, and he just had to put his toes in to win the game.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Um, that's coaching.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: And the at the end of the game, he was like, Yeah, we saw this read, and you know, we audibled to the play at the line and we threw the pass, and my guy didn't get it.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: You know, we'll get it next time.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: He just just like ho ho hum, it's an absolute call of a lifetime to beat Ohio State like that.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: Didn't happen, but Coach Sig and the crew are absolutely elite.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: And then go down the list, Bob Chesney, US, UCLA.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: They somehow held Wisconsin to seven points, 66 yards passing.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: They got this win with a back and backup quarterback named Ty Diffenbach.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: Let's finally get his name right once.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: Ty Diffenbach throws for 264.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: They do it on the ground with the whole slew of running backs, and they do it on defense, and they hold them to 66 yard passing.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: UCLA is undefeated.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: And lastly, JMU, Billy Napy are the only 7 and 0 team in the country right now.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: JMU football coaches rule.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: I'm ready to start a JMU coaching tree uh Twitter narrative.
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: Just start hashtag JMU coaching tree.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: Let's see if we can get that.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: Let's see if we can get that hashtag spreading.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: JMU coaching tree.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: Who's ready to take life before?
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Oh, go ahead.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Who's before Signet?
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: So I looked it up.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: I looked it up and I forget bro's name.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: Coach took him to the national championship and won the Natty in 2017.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: I was there with Brother Michael.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: We were in Dallas.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: We watched the JMU Dukes and we threw the streamers, the purple and gold streamers, all over the stands.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: We got there 20 minutes late, and JMU just scored 14 points and the game was over.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: We never saw a close game.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: Mike used to be.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: I think it's over.
- 11:27SPEAKER_02: I think this is it.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: I you know, I don't want to pile on the kid too much.
- 11:30SPEAKER_02: The Sharon Moore thing was an absolute circus last year.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: I don't think what they're trying to do at Utah currently with the new coaching staff fits what he wants to do.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: They want to play, play downhill, play bruising running back like Jim Harbaugh does.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: And that's what uh that's what Tommy Carr is better suited for, frankly.
- 11:47SPEAKER_02: Um, run down the hill with Sevian Heider and Marshall, who are absolute sledgehammers, and then play action to JJ McCann, who's an outstanding back.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: And while I think Tommy Carr is a true freshman, is very limited.
- 11:58SPEAKER_02: He clearly fits better what they want to do.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: And I don't think it's a coincidence that they were kind of losing ugly to Penn State.
- 12:06SPEAKER_02: They've made the switch and they came back and won.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, they got a bunch of points off turnovers.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: Kudos Michigan defense.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: Story 11.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: Michigan always is a good defense, but I think we've seen it.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: I don't think Underwood's other barring an injury and Tommy Carr goes down.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: I don't think we're gonna see him start.
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: I think I'm confident he will not be playing for the Michigan Wolverines in 2027.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: I also think this is really good for him.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: I think there's a there's a benefit for Underwood just to sit back and watch.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: Like and watch and learn.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think most quarterbacks that will come in have that opportunity.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: Didn't he start almost right away at Michigan last year?
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: First day, day one.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Get out there.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: So like he's been out there, he was thrown to the wolves.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: He's he's not ready for prime time, but the guy still is super talented.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: I think at a at a school that's not quite as big as Michigan, he will go.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying like he's not gonna go to like a group of six school, but you could see him at some uh probably not an SEC school either, but you could see him go somewhere like a Nebraska or so next year, um, some mid-tier school.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: And I think he'll he'll do just fine, but I think this will be very, very good for him just to sit and watch and learn for the rest of the season.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: He might be back, you know, if injuries occur at Michigan, but I think this is gonna be good for him in the long term.
- 13:21SPEAKER_02: It doesn't even have to be a bad school.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: It could be as there's a lot of schools that could have been home for the wayward quarterbacks.
- 13:25SPEAKER_02: Maybe he goes to new, maybe he's in New Oregon Dante Moore.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: Maybe he goes sits because Dante Moore is gonna move on.
- 13:31SPEAKER_02: Dil Royal is definitely not playing for Oregon next year.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: No way they're bringing him back.
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: Um, like maybe maybe Underwood goes there, maybe he goes to a Dan Mullen at UNLV.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: We've seen him do amazing.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: That's the name of the thing.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: There's a bunch of there's a bunch of quarters, there's a bunch of head coaches out there who have Lane Kiffin.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: I mean, we was he was gonna there was a time when he was gonna come to LSU out, although I think that shit was probably sailed, so probably not Lane.
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: There are offensive-minded guys out there who know what he does well.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: They've seen it on tape, and they've seen it in spurts at Michigan that I'm sure I'm not saying he's out of college football.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: I just think his Michigan story is over.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: It goes well to my next one, which is is this was the weekend of the backup quarterback.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: Um, whether it was Tommy Carr, whether it was Jones in Florida, whether it's gonna be is it the true freshman in um at Ohio State now that Saiyan's out for a little bit?
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: Oh, Luke Fehey, yeah, or Tavian Sinclair, one or two.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: They were it was like the we oh and uh Different Bach.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: The guy from Diffen Durff.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I loved looking back at our transcripts from last week and putting it in the Claude, and it goes like, are you guys you said his name wrong eight times.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: I'm like, no, that's the whole point.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: Like it's okay that we don't know his name.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: But um, it was great.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: The um, I mean, the the week, the week of the backup quarterback.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: I had I have a pick on league with CBS Sports, and I totally went against Florida because I was like, there's no way with a backup quarterback against Texas that they're even gonna keep this.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: I think it was like nine and a half or something.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: Um, but dang, did these backup quarterbacks really step up and have quite the weekend?
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: So that was my second quarter, guys.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: Is uh it was the week of the weekend of the backup, and they did well.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: Talk about a quarterback um somewhat similar, but let's go on the positive side.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: Here's my here's my thing.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: Next year, we got two guys that are gonna hit the power four and take take it by storm, and they're both coming from the Oregon State Beavers.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: We got the number one passing yards uh quarterback named Braden Atkinson and the number one yardage receiver, Jesse Legree.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: Jesse LeGree is finally getting a little respect on college game day, I saw, and the boys were like, hey, check out LeGree, freshman Oregon State.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: These guys are putting up huge numbers, and they're gonna they're gonna hit the power four, and somebody's gonna be uh rolling in some points and yardage if you get Braden Atkinson or Jesse LeGree next year.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: I hope it's uh the Hokies.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: Do they have one loss or two?
- 16:40SPEAKER_02: The Oregon State.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to remember.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: It's like I think so.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: Like, I mean, there's a there is a world, there is a world where they beat Boise, which I'm pretty sure they play them.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: They win the Pac-12, and then JMU drops a dumb one, and then all of a sudden we're talking about Oregon State as the G6 playoff.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: I don't think they're dead.
- 16:59SPEAKER_02: I think they're probably third or fourth or fifth in the odds.
- 17:02SPEAKER_02: Memphis lost again, which I used to god.
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: The moment I talked about Memphis, they lose again.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: Um, so obviously Boise sitting at the top.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: I think JMU's right there at two.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: They are five and two long season.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: Oregon State has.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: Okay, maybe maybe we're gonna say they can't get there.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: Okay, maybe we're gonna say they can't get there.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: They do have a couple votes in the AP poll.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: Somebody gave them a little love on the AP poll.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: Oregon State Beavers.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: I mean, is it is a two-loss G6 representative un unheard of?
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: I mean, they'll probably if it if it's 13 and I mean, I'll also quick quick debate.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: Is it 13-0 JMU or 11 and 2 Oregon State?
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: If Oregon State can beat Boise in Boise on the 14th, but they lost in the opener to Houston and then they lost in week two to Texas Tech, and then they've gotten five in a row since then.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: If Fresno State, go ahead, Mike.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: Well, no, I was gonna say I think so.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: I think they would actually be it would actually mean beating Boise twice because I think they would get them in the conference championship again.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: So in theory, it would be two Boise wins, which I I even if they lose them twice, I we still think Boise's pretty darn good.
- 18:05SPEAKER_02: So I'm not saying it.
- 18:07SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying there's a chance.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Oregon State's two losses.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: Did you just say this?
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: Houston and Texas Tech, they're a lot better losses than one loss to Oregon, which is what Boise State is hanging on.
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: I yeah, my point is they need a lot of things to go their way.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: I don't think they're dead.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: I think they're top three or four in like the G6 odds, Boise and Jamie U being probably one and two.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: I think they're somewhere kind of second tier as one of the G6 schools.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: Maybe keep an eye on it.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: We we have we had we had hopes for Fresno for a second, but that's that seems to have faded.
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: Don't count New Mexico though.
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: And don't count New Mexico.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: That game's coming up this weekend.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: We got a banger of a game.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: We'll talk about it in another podcast, but that big one, that big one's coming up, North Dakota State and New Mexico.
- 18:49SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 18:51SPEAKER_02: Uh I'll go.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: Uh Mario Cristobal is a darn good coach.
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: He is still vulnerable to a stupid loss.
- 18:57SPEAKER_02: I don't care that he won that game.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: There's no business, he has no business keeping that game close to Florida State at home of all places.
- 19:04SPEAKER_02: I know it's a rivalry game.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: I know things get weird.
- 19:06SPEAKER_02: I know that Florida's, I know that Miami's dinged up, especially I think in the secondary and a couple other spots.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: This is Cristobal, man.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: He does this.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: However, let's not let's before they had that legendary run where they were literally one touchdown drive away from the national championship, they had two bad regular season losses.
- 19:21SPEAKER_02: I mean, you can argue they weren't that bad, but two regular season losses teams they shouldn't have.
- 19:26SPEAKER_02: He still does this, man, and he can't get out of the system.
- 19:28SPEAKER_02: I don't know if it's gonna be like I wouldn't be surprised at all if Miami goes 11 and 1, beats Notre Dame, and loses to Georgia Tech.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: Something like that.
- 19:38SPEAKER_02: Something silly's gonna happen to him.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: I just he's still he has not figured out figured out a way yet to just win the games he's supposed to win.
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: He is so vulnerable.
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: So that hasn't changed for me.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: And I think that's being proven true by the conversation about the AP rankings.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: Miami's sitting in number one right now, and I think most people are saying, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah Miami just barely survived Florida State in two overtimes, and they're the number one team.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: Not you know, Indiana who lost to Ohio State, not Notre Dame, who got beat by a undefeated BYU who's sitting in number two.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: Anyway, the conversation is like, wait a second, I don't think so.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: So that's I mean, that's helping prove your point too.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: These all these teams at the top right now, after the carnage historical, you know, upset weekend of the century, it's like, wait a second, no, no, none of these teams are number one.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Let's put them all at a team at a tie for five and go from there.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: Nobody gets one through four.
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: They get pit at home next week, and with pit with no Mason Heinschel, I'm gonna go ahead and bury them.
- 20:42SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 20:42SPEAKER_02: And we went that pit season ended with that ACL tear in the Virginia Tech game.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: Really tragic.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: I hate to see that, but pit season is they've lost two in a row, they're done.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: But after that, they go at North Carolina, that's losable.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: At Notre Dame, obviously losable.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: Duke, we'll see.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: Virginia Tech, maybe.
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: Like, I there's still a world where just because of Crystal Ball, not because their talent, not because of what they do, which is because Crystal Ball just has these guys blanking in these games.
- 21:09SPEAKER_02: A two law, a two-loss Miami regular season is not out of cards for me yet, even despite the fact they've started the year 6-0.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: Mark, what you got?
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: So last week, Mike, when we were doing uh punter go for it, you came out with the big one.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: It was it is Georgia, Notre Dame, Miami, Ohio State, or the field.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: And at the time, I was like, no, I think you're right.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: It's one of those four schools.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: One of those four schools will be our national champions.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: And after this weekend, I gotta change my thought on that one.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm gonna go for the field now.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: Because every single one of them showed their vulnerable vulnerability this weekend with Saiyan being hurt, Notre Dame got beat by BYU, Georgia got beat at home of all places.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: Um Miami, Miami themselves.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: Uh it was crazy.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: Um, but I I'm also very, very excited about the college football playoff now because I think every single game is gonna be awesome.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Um, just because like I I have no idea what's gonna happen.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: A team's gonna have to come out and be their best team.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: It's like in Major League Baseball, when you get to the playoffs, it's not necessarily the team with the best record, it's the team that's playing their best game when the playoffs start.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: And who knows who it's gonna be a month from now, who's really started to click.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: It might be a two win team that goes and wins the national championship because they they were in the You know, they got hot at the right time.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: And I think that's what's most exciting about what's what we're going into this next month of November and eventually the college football playoff.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think I thought I saw I think I thought I saw some separation, and I clearly did not.
- 22:52SPEAKER_02: I was full like I was a little bit of a little fraudulent, a little bit of fool's gold.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: Um, and I think what I think what you said about getting hot is well said.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: It's kind of like hockey.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: You know, the team that usually wins the NHL Cup is not the best team.
- 23:02SPEAKER_02: It's a team that's playing hot with a hot goalie that goes in a run.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: And that's all then you could chalk up.
- 23:07SPEAKER_02: I mean, obviously, I mean, I'll want to give Indiana their some flowers.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: They probably they went wire to wire, but Miami certainly did it.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: They got really hot.
- 23:15SPEAKER_02: Ole Miss got really hot at the end.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: Like it's probably what we're gonna with this 12-team playoff, and especially with the 2014 playoff, we're gonna see that's probably every year.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: A eight and nine and three team, maybe even eight and four, SEC or Big 12.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: I mean, at that point, we might see a four-loss team getting a playoff.
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: I think we probably will.
- 23:32SPEAKER_02: And they just turn it on, they get hot.
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: That backup quarterback develops into be the guy, the defense rounds out, the coordinators figure out who's supposed to be what.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: Like it's I think you're gonna see a lot of really streaky play in the playoffs, given exactly what you describe.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: I think that's I think it's well said.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, yes, but take the I was gonna say, I don't know if I said it, but I think it's a really good thing that Indiana lost for them.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: Like that taste of losing um in your mouth will come back, and I think you'll be able to step up in the upcoming games, and somebody's not gonna come in there and like catch them by surprise.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: They've got the loss, they're bitter, they're angry, they've got something to prove now.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: And I think in the long term, this loss will be actually pretty good for the Indiana program as a whole as it heads into later in the season.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Um, I mean, if they would have won, I'm sure they would have been happy with that.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: But I don't think this was a really bad thing that they lost that game for them.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: And uh, I think it'll pay off for them in January.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Just like the big nooners keep saying, you know, Indiana hasn't lost a football game since COVID or something.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: And so now, yeah, now it's like, okay, back down to earth.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: And coach and like again, Coach Signetti and the presser afterwards, he was like, Yeah, we you know, we had a good call, we missed it this time.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: We'll be gonna we're gonna be fine.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: He fully expects to win every single game and the national championship this year.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: And yeah, they he just won 22 straight.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: Give the man some credit.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: So, you know, they are they are they are a darn good football team, still very much the top of this sport, and uh one loss is gonna take it's gonna take more than one loss to maybe the second or third best team in the country.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: Um, but one foot out of bounds to dethrone the great SIG.
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: So yeah, we're still gonna go.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: Go ahead, Mark.
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: Go ahead, Darren.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: Uh, we talk on this podcast about betting a lot, and now's a great time to say if you enjoy sports betting, you know, good for you, but like now's a great time to find another hobby because betting on college football right now is complete insanity, and you know, cut your bet sizes in a tenth right now, and just you know, it's absolute chaos.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: Don't don't plan on ever making money betting on college football because the insanity of this week is just the beginning, especially if we get into 2014 playoff.
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: It's like college football insanity is intertainment level is skyrocketing, and you know, reliability for making a an actual bet against the books is plummeting.
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, make sure you're only betting, you know, um candy bar money only.
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, couch, so whatever change you can find your couch, keep it.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: Keep it under control, keep it, keep it quiet, folks.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: Right now, uh, I got two more.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: Oh go ahead.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: Darren, do you have another one?
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: Let me see.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: Where am I at?
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: Where am I?
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: Okay, so um my my take, uh Mike, I'm trying to flesh out your take that you had last week about um coaches.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: And Oregon, Oregon is just what I've learned is that Oregon is just proving this this theory um to be rock solid that your coaching staff is so critical to your team right now.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: And Oregon is just plummeting, they're barely a B minus team right now.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: They have all the talent in the world, their roster is just loaded with NFL talent, but their assistant coaches, once again, are promoted from within.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: They didn't go and find those, you know, bang up assistants that have proven themselves at a power four conference somewhere else.
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: Their offensive and their defensive coordinator just kind of rose up from, you know, coaching tight ends and coaching safeties into the coordinator position, and it is failing.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: And so when next season starts, you know, we we need to see, okay, Oregon's number two team in the country.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: Let's take another peek at their um at their coaching staff and make sure they got it where it counts.
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: Now, Tennessee did the did the work and they got their defensive coordinator who Jim Knowles, right?
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: Who's that's right, um, who's just tearing up the SEC and just beat Alabama.
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, so it's just this theory of yours is being proven uh rock solid.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I you know, it's it's uh I have one of my uh one of my putting groups I was thinking about was the Oregon team.
- 27:55SPEAKER_02: You know, Oregon, I mean, I'll give Oregon's uh defensive coordinator a little bit of credit.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: The defense has kind of turned a corner, they've done things a little bit better, you know.
- 28:02SPEAKER_02: You could make your argument that Tosh Lu Pai wasn't the loss that he was, but Will Stein on the other side, holy smokes, colossal.
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: Floor Kentucky's gain was absolutely Oregon's loss, and they are obviously suffering through that.
- 28:15SPEAKER_02: I mean, they're lucky to get that very ugly 17 to 14 Nebraska win.
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: I almost feel bad for Nebraska's.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: If you were ever gonna get Oregon, it was Saturday.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: That was your shot to take down the Mighty Ducks and didn't happen.
- 28:27SPEAKER_02: Um, and yeah, and Jim Knowles.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'll I will say there's historically speaking, it's taken like a year or so for his formula, his scheme to sink in.
- 28:38SPEAKER_02: Five games, six games is all it took.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: He's got them flying around, they smashed Alabama, like they whooped him, um, like everywhere.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: They that was just a solid, I think they held him like 260 yards.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: I think they uh sack they sacked uh Keelan a whole bunch of times, picked him off a couple times.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: Like that was just a solid beatdown.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: Jim Knowles deserves a lot of credit for for that, and because he is, like you said, an elite tactician.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: So, you know, I'm sure he'll I'm sure he's gonna I'm sure he's got a pay raise in his future coming in.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: Uh all right, uh I'll state in the SEC really quickly.
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: Uh the SEC I think is gonna get the most slots.
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: I still think it's gonna get four teams, maybe five.
- 29:19SPEAKER_02: I have no idea who it's gonna be.
- 29:21SPEAKER_02: I it's it's that's what uh this week was like I I'm I'm not getting off Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ole Miss.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: After I kind of I kind of buried Ole Miss after that sloppy Louisville game and the obviously the shellacking to Florida.
- 29:35SPEAKER_02: I think they've they've reasted themselves as very, very good.
- 29:38SPEAKER_02: I don't know who it's gonna be.
- 29:40SPEAKER_02: LSU might, we we might come to life if we can rattle off a couple here.
- 29:43SPEAKER_02: We might get back in the in the in the thick of things.
- 29:46SPEAKER_02: Um the SEC is very deep.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: I still think that.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: I mean the joke is like, oh, it's a gauntlet.
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: I actually believe that.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: I really do think it has the most best teams, but I have no idea who it's gonna be.
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: I don't know who the four teams are gonna go in.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a beautiful thing.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: It's wonderful.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: I want I want everybody to get ready right now for the playoff 12 to be announced.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: And if it's five SEC teams that all have two losses or more, um, get ready for that.
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: Like that's that's okay.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: That's fine.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: A three or two and three loss, Old Miss, Tennessee, Georgia.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's very possible, and they're a lot better than all the other teams that you can mention that should be in their place at number 12.
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: Shouldn't it should be that SEC team that has lost two or three?
- 30:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:40SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think it's gonna take other I think it's gonna take other losses around the country as well, but I think but I mean I think they're coming.
- 30:45SPEAKER_02: I think Miami is is is really locking up as a one-bid league.
- 30:49SPEAKER_02: The Big 12 might get two.
- 30:50SPEAKER_02: We might see two Big 12, but I don't yeah.
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: What do you think, Mark?
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: Sorry.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: No, I was gonna say, like, when do we start getting the projections?
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: Like, when does the real what is it, like the college football playoff rankings come out?
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: When do we start getting that taste of these are the teams that if if the season ended now, here's where they would go.
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: Do we start getting the projections of those soon?
- 31:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, historically it's week nine, so it's the first week of November or like the last week of October.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: So we're we're pretty soon they're gonna come out.
- 31:19SPEAKER_02: They're kind of meaningless now because obviously there's still gonna be like four or five weeks of football left and plus conference championships week.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: But we are now getting to.
- 31:27SPEAKER_02: I actually wish all rankings would do this.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: Just play the damn season.
- 31:30SPEAKER_02: I recognize that rankings are meaningless, but just for selling tickets and putting numbers next to people's names.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: But I actually kind of love that when the when the college this was true for the BCS and the college football when it was before, they did this.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: They waited till eight, nine weeks.
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: So we have eight, nine games.
- 31:45SPEAKER_02: We have a lot of data, we have a lot of really good points of like where you should or shouldn't be.
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: So when it does come out, it's obviously gonna be incomplete, but it's gonna be a hell a lot better than the preseason rankings that we were working with for so in September.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: So that's nice.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: Uh I got one more.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: Okay, go ahead.
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: So Mama stay in the SEC as well.
- 32:08SPEAKER_00: And let's see if I can say this right.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: Um the SEC has more elite quarterbacks than it does teams.
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: We saw we saw um Tennessee started the year with Faison Brandon, did pretty good.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: Now McIntyre's in there.
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: They got two quarterbacks that would probably start at half of the ACC and Big 12 teams.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: Alabama, probably the same.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: They've got Austin Mack sitting on the bench who could have won that starting job.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: He's probably a starter in most other conferences.
- 32:44SPEAKER_00: Florida just proved that they've got a backup quarterback right right behind uh Philo.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: Yep, Tramel Jones, who just went and beat Texas.
- 32:53SPEAKER_00: Um, the bottom of the SEC, Vanderbilt, Jared Curtis, fantastic quarterback.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: Wish I had him on my squad.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: We got a great quarterback.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: But you know, the SEC is just top to bottom.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: There's a couple duds in there, but the duds are still pretty good.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: Marcel Reed at Texas AM is like he's got a lot of potential.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: He just can't win in the A in the SEC.
- 33:17SPEAKER_00: He could be great for Duke or North Carolina.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: He'd be a fantastic quarterback in the ACC.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: So um, you know, I don't think.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: You didn't even mention Trinidad.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, or uh Lenora Sellers, who's third from last place in the in the conference.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: And those are all the obvious ones.
- 33:33SPEAKER_00: Those are all the obvious ones that I don't have to mention.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: I mean, most most teams have two guys that are that are balling out, um, that are getting their shot.
- 33:43SPEAKER_00: And I don't I don't care about the SEC, and I don't care about the gauntlet.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: It means more, like who cares?
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: I'm a Virginia Tech fan, always have been.
- 33:51SPEAKER_00: But now that I'm deep diving into college football and the pod here, um, it's just true.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: You know, SEC attracts this talent from the south of from the south of the country, and they just simply have have the dudes.
- 34:04SPEAKER_00: Lenora Sellers, like you, like you said, um at the bottom of the SEC, amazing quarterback, maybe the top 20 quarterback in the country.
- 34:13SPEAKER_02: Yep, yep, yep.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, absolutely.
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: All right, it's my last one.
- 34:18SPEAKER_02: One more is the last one.
- 34:20SPEAKER_02: Take it away.
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: The holy war.
- 34:23SPEAKER_02: The holy war is uh the the Utah BYU rivalry, uh rivalry game.
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: That's gonna be November 7th, which is in about two weeks.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: The Holy War is the biggest game in the Big 12 in years, since Red River, when Texas and Oklahoma were still in the Big 12, and that was the biggest game.
- 34:40SPEAKER_02: It's the Holy War.
- 34:41SPEAKER_02: I'm fully expecting both of those teams at this point.
- 34:44SPEAKER_02: I've seen enough.
- 34:45SPEAKER_02: I've I've been sandbagging Bear Bachmeyer since uh Labor Day, and I apologize, Bear.
- 34:50SPEAKER_02: I've been wrong about you for a long time.
- 34:52SPEAKER_02: I gotta stop doing that.
- 34:53SPEAKER_02: Morgan Scally, I wrote you off from the get-go.
- 34:55SPEAKER_02: I didn't think you'll do anything with Devin Dampier since half of your premier talent went to Michigan.
- 35:00SPEAKER_02: And all you've done is hang back and keep winning.
- 35:03SPEAKER_02: The Holy War on November 7th is going to be the biggest game in the Big 12 in years.
- 35:08SPEAKER_02: Can't wait to see it.
- 35:09SPEAKER_02: I'm very excited for both these squads.
- 35:11SPEAKER_02: Obviously, I know Texas Tech and Houston are gonna have a thing or two to say about that race, but I just think we are seeing one of the biggest and best rivalry games.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: It's gonna really culminate in a couple weeks.
- 35:22SPEAKER_02: It's gonna go a long way to decide the playoff and the Big 12.
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: So I'm excited for that.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: Um this is the this is gonna be the biggest game in the Big 12 regular season in a long time.
- 35:35SPEAKER_00: That game is at Utah, currently ranked number 10.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: And that's a top 10 matchup, yeah.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: Um it's exciting.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: That was BYU being legit was my last one.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: I knew, I knew you were gonna bring up something good BYU.
- 35:51SPEAKER_01: But um, well, because Darren loves them so much.
- 35:54unknown: Yeah.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: Uh but I started to see it.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: I actually was I I could feel it because I was kind of rooting for Notre Dame most of the game, just because, you know, grew up in Middle America and Notre Dame was on TV.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: I hated them when I lived in Chicago, but since I've moved away from the homeland, I've kind of like, oh, all right, well, Notre Dame makes me think of home.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: And of course, once I got my hoax up, they got beat.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: But dang, BYU just uh it looked good and it looked fun out there.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: Somebody said they were all hopped up on artificial sweeteners, and I forgot what the other thing was.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: Dirty sodas.
- 36:24SPEAKER_01: But it just made me laugh.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: Dirty sodas.
- 36:27SPEAKER_01: But it was good, man.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: Like uh BYU really, really impressed me.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: I don't foresee them going undefeated throughout the whole season, but dang, what a what a performance on uh on Saturday night uh by Mr.
- 36:39SPEAKER_01: Bachmeyer.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: He came out and then just called out Notre Dame afterwards.
- 36:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I guess they disrespected him in the uh thing.
- 36:45SPEAKER_01: I liked it.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, somebody said something is yeah, someone someone made an off-color comment.
- 36:50SPEAKER_02: I still I still have not gotten the full report on that, but yeah, he was he was certainly filed up.
- 36:54SPEAKER_02: Quick correction Utah does have Houston next week.
- 36:56SPEAKER_02: So that's a big game.
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: I should not well, Utah is not gonna Utah is not looking ahead to BYU yet.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: They got to play Houston at home, but I still think Utah and BYU are gonna get to November 7th undefeated, and it's gonna be it's gonna be a dandy.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: So I've got I've got I am I've I have circled the holy war this year as my Big 12 game of the year, and I think that's I think it's gonna deliver.
- 37:16SPEAKER_02: That's kind of that's my that's that's what I think I learned this past week.
- 37:19SPEAKER_01: Houston's due for a letdown after that big win over Oklahoma State has been broke my heart.
- 37:24SPEAKER_02: Broke my heart to see to see my see my pokes go down.
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: All right, are we uh are we all set on to jump to homers?
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: All good.
- 37:31SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: Uh I'll go ahead and start.
- 37:33SPEAKER_02: Oh, because we're already talking about a little bit.
- 37:35SPEAKER_02: LSU, absolutely point of the segment.
- 37:37SPEAKER_02: We're gonna talk quickly about LSU, Tennessee, UVA, which you can attack.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: Iowa was off this week.
- 37:41SPEAKER_02: Kind of give a uh redux of what happened.
- 37:43SPEAKER_02: I'll start with my squad.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: LSU played uh Mississippi State at home, line open at my seven and a half, moved to my 15.
- 37:50SPEAKER_02: Camario Taylor and Fluff Bothwell were out.
- 37:52SPEAKER_02: It was really not a game.
- 37:53SPEAKER_02: Uh, we won 31-0, uh, a bunch of turn, a couple turnovers, uh, great defensive plays.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: The big thing Sam Levitt has been absolutely balling.
- 38:02SPEAKER_02: I think he's actually leading the SEC in yards since that La Tech debacle, like three interception game.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: He he uh he has been is absolutely producing.
- 38:11SPEAKER_02: So we are seeing for LSU fans, the story for us is Sam Levitt has been on a heater for about a month and he's playing really, really well.
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: And if that continues to happen, then good things can come because we have a we have a stretch of college football against Alabama, Texas, and Tennessee.
- 38:26SPEAKER_02: It's gonna define our season.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna have to have a peak Sam Levitt, but he is getting better, and that's the big thing.
- 38:31SPEAKER_02: And that's what we did more of today.
- 38:33SPEAKER_02: That was on on Saturday, I should say, was Sam Levit really grew.
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: So not a really fun game.
- 38:38SPEAKER_02: We stopped him in the opening drive.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: We scored 7-0 immediately.
- 38:41SPEAKER_02: I think it was 21-0 at half, and it was over, but um, that's what we're supposed to do.
- 38:45SPEAKER_02: We're a good team, and we're supposed to do that to teams that aren't that good.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: So good for us.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: Is it is it sad to say that his hamstring injury made him better?
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: I know we mentioned that like a month ago, but ever since tech to say in him game when he was out there with one leg, he has actually gotten so much better.
- 39:02SPEAKER_02: So, a little context for you listening at home.
- 39:03SPEAKER_02: So, Sam Levitt's is also known for being a big dual threat guy.
- 39:06SPEAKER_02: He run with his legs, and one of the big faults was him, and especially in the first month of the season, was he was getting out of pockets way too early, scrambling on boken plays.
- 39:13SPEAKER_02: Even clean pockets, he would just try and run, and he was looking to run first and not throw.
- 39:17SPEAKER_02: He had a weird hammy tweak thing situation.
- 39:20SPEAKER_02: Is there the AM game or was it La Tech McNeese game?
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: No, it was it was AM because afterwards you were going up against McKe State and you're like, Well, maybe we'll just sit him the next game.
- 39:30SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 39:30SPEAKER_02: Good point.
- 39:30SPEAKER_02: So it was that it was the AM game, which frankly at the time we were worried about, but little we know we were gonna beat the brakes off him.
- 39:36SPEAKER_02: What happened was he couldn't run, so he literally had to hang the pocket.
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: He was kind of hobbled out there, and the guy was throwing dimes.
- 39:41SPEAKER_02: And ever since then, something has happened.
- 39:43SPEAKER_02: I I've obviously his his Jackson Harris has clearly emerged.
- 39:47SPEAKER_02: That's great.
- 39:47SPEAKER_02: Um, we're seeing Roman mothershed starting to make some catches.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: The receiving core has has got and gotten uh straightened out the uh interior offensive line.
- 39:55SPEAKER_02: Satterwaite stepped in for Bo Bordelon that got a lot better on the uh interior blocking.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: The offense still has the ways to grow, and we've been seeing it.
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: Mississippi State was more of that.
- 40:04SPEAKER_02: And it's like you said, to your point, yes, when Sam Levitt got hurt, he got he became a better passer, and we're gonna need that if we have a chance of going five and one these last or four and one these last five games.
- 40:15SPEAKER_02: So that's the LSU report.
- 40:17SPEAKER_02: All is well.
- 40:18SPEAKER_01: How is our guy, the defensive end?
- 40:20SPEAKER_01: Is it Prince Well that wins?
- 40:22SPEAKER_02: Princewell even yeah, he had a how is he doing head injury?
- 40:26SPEAKER_02: He'll be fine.
- 40:26SPEAKER_02: They kicked him out, they put him in sweats the second half.
- 40:29SPEAKER_02: Every all indications are he will be him and Jackson Harris will be back.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: Everybody who got hurt, there's a couple other guys that went down with a little minor things, shouldn't be anybody, and apparently Tradez Green is practicing, so there's like an outside shot.
- 40:41SPEAKER_02: We'll get him back for Vanderbilt.
- 40:42SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, Auburn this coming Saturday.
- 40:44SPEAKER_02: I don't think so.
- 40:45SPEAKER_02: So we're we're we're one week from the bye.
- 40:48SPEAKER_02: I think we're gonna hold him out one more week and we'll get him back for Alabama uh November 7th.
- 40:52SPEAKER_02: But um, Tradez Green is out there working out.
- 40:54SPEAKER_02: Apparently, the word in the streets looks pretty good, so getting him back would be huge.
- 40:59SPEAKER_02: And Witweeks is on around the same timeline.
- 41:01SPEAKER_02: We might get him back as well.
- 41:02SPEAKER_02: So if we get our yeah, if we get our two sevens back, which are our two offense-defensive captains back for that stretch.
- 41:09SPEAKER_02: Don't count us tigers out yet.
- 41:11SPEAKER_02: Maybe, maybe.
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: That's enough.
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about uh more interesting uh homers.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: Let's let's talk about the games you guys went to this weekend as my Iowa Hawkeyes were off.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: Uh uh two-thirds of this show went to Blacksburg and looked like they had a lovely time as Albert Mendoza could not handle the Virginia Tech defense.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: Guys, how how was the atmosphere?
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: How was Under Sandman?
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: Tell me all about it.
- 41:33SPEAKER_00: Aaron, you take better eyes on this than I did.
- 41:35SPEAKER_00: So you go first.
- 41:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:37SPEAKER_00: As in two of them.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: I had um, I gotta start by by shouting out our friend Anna Bear.
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: We sat out Anna Bear so much on this show.
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: We stayed in Roanoke at Anna Bear's house, and she she set us up so good, beautiful house in Roanoke.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: Um, for the second time in two trips to Blacksburg, she was not there, she was off doing something else fun for her birthday.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: Happy birth birthday to Anna.
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: Um, and so anyway, we crashed at her place.
- 42:04SPEAKER_00: We um had a great Roanoke experience.
- 42:07SPEAKER_00: Shout out Roanoke, Virginia.
- 42:09SPEAKER_00: Uh, hit the Terror Manor.
- 42:11SPEAKER_00: Don't sleep on Terror Manor.
- 42:13SPEAKER_00: Mike got scared bejesus out of him on Friday night at Terror Manor was wonderful.
- 42:18SPEAKER_00: Mike, did you still be sleeping at night?
- 42:20SPEAKER_02: Dude, that that was the scariest haunted house experience I've ever been to, like by far.
- 42:24SPEAKER_02: That was very, very impressive.
- 42:27SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, you it was all the warnings like going in there when they were like, Don't touch the actors.
- 42:32SPEAKER_02: If you're if you're the the one I like was like the code word to like the if you're having too intense of an experience, it's like say code red, and you can like the actors will like get you out of there.
- 42:41SPEAKER_02: And I was like, What am I about to walk into?
- 42:43SPEAKER_02: What is about to happen?
- 42:44SPEAKER_02: And they were not exaggerating, it was crazy scary, it was awesome.
- 42:49SPEAKER_02: So if you are a real fright fan, if you're looking to get your adrenaline, your blood pumping, make it sure to Rowanok.
- 42:54SPEAKER_02: You will not regret it.
- 42:55SPEAKER_02: Terra Manor is legit.
- 42:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, safe word, right?
- 42:59SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 43:00SPEAKER_02: The sign says exactly if you say code red, the actor will like get you out of there.
- 43:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: I am so pumped that we all went there.
- 43:07SPEAKER_00: We were there with Mike's brother as well, and my wife, Abby.
- 43:10SPEAKER_00: And um yeah, so that was incredible.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: We uh hit we hit Blacksburg, we walked around, hit the bookstore, hit campus, went down to um went down to River Mill, my my favorite haunt in Blacksburg downtown, and had some fries, watched Indiana at noon, um, got fired up, went to went over to Chris Pace's tailgate, another friend of ours.
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: Tailgate scene was fantastic.
- 43:37SPEAKER_00: The weather was beautiful.
- 43:39SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, we got into the stadium.
- 43:42SPEAKER_00: Mike's brother Steven immediately got a turkey leg.
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 43:46SPEAKER_00: Uh we just hit all the you know, all the blacks back Blacksburg Lane Stadium hokey hotspots were just incredible.
- 43:53SPEAKER_00: Inner Sandman, we were jumping, jumping, jumping.
- 43:56SPEAKER_00: The I'll share one thing.
- 43:58SPEAKER_00: We we scored the first touchdown.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: My boy Kayshawn Brown once again went absolutely bananas and went for what 182 yards.
- 44:09SPEAKER_00: Uh he scored the first touchdown.
- 44:11SPEAKER_00: It was a bomb.
- 44:12SPEAKER_00: And me and Mike uh sitting beside each other, I turned around before when he was like on the 15-yard line and just sprinting for the opening touchdown.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: I turned around and faced Mike and I started pumping my fist like Arsenio Hall, right?
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:29SPEAKER_00: And we went in for a we went in for a big high five and like kind of hit a high five and chest bumped, and we spilled a little bit and we tumbled down on the Our on our knees there on the stadium, and there was a girl beside us, and she was like, You all are grown men, get it together, get up, and I was just laughing.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: I had my hands up.
- 44:49SPEAKER_00: I was still like, touch down.
- 44:51SPEAKER_00: We took a little bit of a tumble, but it was all in good fun.
- 44:54SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, the whole the whole game was like that.
- 44:57SPEAKER_00: Our our offense was incredible.
- 44:59SPEAKER_00: Grunk is really good.
- 45:01SPEAKER_00: Our quarterback threw for 250 and three scores.
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: He ran for another one.
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: Uh K Sean Brown, once again, you know, 182.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: Is they were really good.
- 45:11SPEAKER_00: And we accidentally let Mendoza, Virginia, um, Georgia Tech throw for 335 yards.
- 45:18SPEAKER_00: My goodness.
- 45:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like he's that was he's pretty darn good too.
- 45:22SPEAKER_00: When they needed 18 yards on third down, they got 19.
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: Like he kept doing that.
- 45:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was kind of the fly in the ointment.
- 45:29SPEAKER_02: So I re actually went back and rewatched, re-watched this game.
- 45:33SPEAKER_02: And now, if I was gonna say anything, is I didn't I didn't love what everything I saw of Virginia Tech's defense.
- 45:39SPEAKER_02: Albert Mendoza did have a good Mendoza had a good game, but I also think I thought Virginia Tech was a little soft in coverage.
- 45:44SPEAKER_02: Uh there was some breakdowns I didn't really like.
- 45:47SPEAKER_02: Uh, their run defense was okay, it held in less than 100 yards.
- 45:50SPEAKER_02: If you do that, it's always a pretty good day.
- 45:51SPEAKER_02: But um, I would like to have seen a little bit more out of Virginia Tech's passing defense.
- 45:56SPEAKER_02: But other than that, I'm I'm overall really happy.
- 45:59SPEAKER_02: And my my major takeaway, especially watching Gronk on TV, he was 15 for 22 for 250, just super efficient.
- 46:06SPEAKER_02: Finding guys, making stepping in, making really competent, really good throws.
- 46:11SPEAKER_02: Um, Jeffrey Overton again was a beast, 6.1 yards carry.
- 46:14SPEAKER_02: Marcel Hawkins, 4.7 yards a carry.
- 46:17SPEAKER_02: Like the run game and the pass game clearly complemented one another.
- 46:21SPEAKER_02: It was like a highly competent Virginia Tech is pretty good.
- 46:25SPEAKER_02: Two plays from being 7-0, like really good performance.
- 46:30SPEAKER_02: The only thing I want to mention that Darren missed in the pregame stuff, we got to touch the game ball.
- 46:34SPEAKER_02: The core cadets were running around campus with the game ball.
- 46:38SPEAKER_02: I don't even know why they do that.
- 46:39SPEAKER_02: They bring it to the stadium, so we so we all touch the game balls.
- 46:42SPEAKER_02: That was kind of cool.
- 46:42SPEAKER_02: And we saw the cannon roll past us.
- 46:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so we really yeah, we really did get like the full hokey experience.
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: Like it was it was really it was treated.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: Where did you guys say were you on the were you on the student side or were you on like the fancy side?
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: We were on the shade side below the boxy side.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, fantasy side, nice, nice.
- 46:59SPEAKER_01: We're on the shady side.
- 47:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the core of cadets came running up the road.
- 47:04SPEAKER_00: Um, there was like 10 co uh cadets marching, running, yelling, and they had a pickup truck that was pulling the cannon that goes boom boom after a touchdown.
- 47:16SPEAKER_00: They take it from the upper quad where the core lives all the way to the stadium in like this procession, and they're decked out in their uniforms.
- 47:24SPEAKER_00: You know, you got the core cadets wearing their uniforms to these home games, and so that's and then a group of guys in their fatigues and their in their camos came by game ball, game ball, slap the game ball, touch the game, and we'd slap the game ball.
- 47:38SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, yeah, they'd let these guys you know run around campus uh and get everybody excited for the game.
- 47:44SPEAKER_00: It was it was awesome.
- 47:45SPEAKER_00: Good, good Blacksburg experience.
- 47:47SPEAKER_02: I love those Nike Vortex balls, they're so nice.
- 47:50SPEAKER_02: If you ever if you ever like Wanda buying an actual game ball using college football, they're like$150, like$200, the most expensive football you can get, and they're they're very, very nice footballs.
- 47:59SPEAKER_00: So mandatory attendance out of you, Mark Franza.
- 48:02SPEAKER_00: Next game.
- 48:02SPEAKER_00: Oh, hey, yeah, no, no, no.
- 48:04SPEAKER_00: I love Blacksburg.
- 48:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's been like mandatory, yeah.
- 48:07SPEAKER_00: Mandatory attendance out of Anna Bear when we say at her house as well.
- 48:10SPEAKER_01: Guys, it's one of the reasons I married my wife is they had she had season tickets of Virginia Tech, and we went to like three games a year.
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: I was like, this I love her.
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: This is great.
- 48:18SPEAKER_01: Let's go.
- 48:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:19SPEAKER_01: As a Chicago guy, she wanted to watch football.
- 48:22SPEAKER_01: I'm like, this is wonderful.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: And uh Blacksburg's where she took me.
- 48:26SPEAKER_01: So fell in love there.
- 48:28SPEAKER_01: Love it.
- 48:30SPEAKER_01: What is our what is the team to take a look at?
- 48:34SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about the SMU UVA game.
- 48:36SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm gonna be pretty quick on this one.
- 48:37SPEAKER_02: Uh SMU 23, UVA 13, Bopper Buell on 137 yards passing.
- 48:43SPEAKER_02: This game, so I went, I went back and watched this game twice again as well.
- 48:46SPEAKER_02: And even though I knew it was happening, I had the score box.
- 48:48SPEAKER_02: All I knew was I had the box score already, so I knew it was happening.
- 48:52SPEAKER_02: Even though UVA went down the field and they had they have obviously had a chance in that fumble the early in the fourth and 10 that the drop, but they had some chances, but they never really felt like they had a chance to win this game.
- 49:02SPEAKER_02: And I just it felt to me the SMU was bigger, faster, stronger.
- 49:07SPEAKER_02: The line was 10 points going this game, and it was exactly what it was.
- 49:10SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm really disappointed in UVA's offense.
- 49:12SPEAKER_02: I think it's regressed, frankly.
- 49:14SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, that only 260-ish yards of offense is just not going to do it against any really decent ACC school.
- 49:21SPEAKER_02: Uh, they got to get better.
- 49:22SPEAKER_02: Um, they're four and three.
- 49:24SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think UVA is clearly safe going to a bowl and probably win a couple more games, but you know, this is a far cry from what we saw, unfortunately, and August.
- 49:32SPEAKER_02: And I was hoping for the miraculous, and we just we didn't get it.
- 49:36SPEAKER_02: That's kind of my kind of my SMU.
- 49:38SPEAKER_02: And I just I actually I think SMU is very, very quietly putting itself back into the ACC number two competition conversation as well.
- 49:47SPEAKER_02: So a little of it is not not all UVA being bad, it's SMU being good.
- 49:52SPEAKER_01: That's true, but look at UVA's like the way to close out the season.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: They have Duke coming to town this weekend.
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: That's gonna be a hard game.
- 49:58SPEAKER_01: Wake Forest, they have to go to Wake Forest.
- 50:01SPEAKER_01: That's gonna be really hard.
- 50:02SPEAKER_01: They've got Cal coming to town, and you know, Cal upset Virginia Tech, they might do something.
- 50:07SPEAKER_01: Then they have uh North Carolina, then Virginia Tech has a rivalry game.
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: It's very possible they only win one or two of the games the rest of the season and end up at like six and seven.
- 50:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: If we remember last year, like they got crazy lucky in the Louisville game.
- 50:21SPEAKER_02: They had a couple of good.
- 50:22SPEAKER_02: This might be, I mean, UVA just might be a regression to the mean type year.
- 50:25SPEAKER_02: Like last year, obviously, it it yeah, last year changed everything for UVA fans.
- 50:29SPEAKER_02: It's the most wins they've ever had in a year.
- 50:31SPEAKER_02: I think they won 11 games or something like that.
- 50:33SPEAKER_02: Um, I can't remember off the top of my head.
- 50:35SPEAKER_02: And you know, they had a lot of really good breaks.
- 50:37SPEAKER_02: So Louisville game specifically, and there's a couple other games that just went their way.
- 50:41SPEAKER_02: Some games are not going their way this way, and you know, we're gonna be back to six and six, but I don't know.
- 50:46SPEAKER_02: Uh, yeah.
- 50:47SPEAKER_02: I mean, obviously Booper Bule, I don't think is I don't think Bo Bule is gonna be last year.
- 50:51SPEAKER_02: 11 and three last year, which I think is the record.
- 50:53SPEAKER_02: That's fine.
- 50:54SPEAKER_02: I think I think is the all-time record for UVAs in single win.
- 50:56SPEAKER_02: So I think that changed expectations.
- 50:58SPEAKER_02: But this year, the games are just simply not going their way the way they thought they were.
- 51:03SPEAKER_02: So um, but yeah, they have another chance at Duke on Friday night.
- 51:06SPEAKER_02: So hopefully they'll probably turn around.
- 51:07SPEAKER_02: Offense has to get better, offense has to get better, offense has to get better.
- 51:11SPEAKER_01: Talking about a team that looked like they got better at this one on defense.
- 51:14SPEAKER_01: We talked a little bit about Tennessee earlier, but do we want to cover the heck of a win over Alla Friggin Bama this past weekend by the Tennessee Volunteers?
- 51:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I have a quick, I just have a quick take take for this.
- 51:27SPEAKER_02: Um uh George McIntyre's exactly what this offense needed.
- 51:30SPEAKER_02: Keep them honest with the uh with the play action and let um Deshaun Bishop, who's outstanding, that dude is an absolute hammer, and Jim Knowles do their things exactly what they did.
- 51:39SPEAKER_02: Uh, I did not really think Tennessee was a was a was a threat to be a playoff team, to be an ace SEC contender.
- 51:48SPEAKER_02: And with this defense and that run game, there's not a game on their schedule that they can't win, including hosting my beloved Tigers next month.
- 51:56SPEAKER_02: Um, at South Carolina will be tricky versus Kentucky at home will be tricky.
- 51:59SPEAKER_02: At AM, AM's on the road.
- 52:01SPEAKER_02: A lot of I mean, they've they've they have a lot of losable games too, but uh Tennessee could be a 10-game winner this year, and I don't think anybody really thought that was that likely back in August.
- 52:11SPEAKER_02: And I think a lot of that is to Jim Knowles.
- 52:13SPEAKER_02: And this was this was at least through the season so far, this was his uh Magnum opus.
- 52:17SPEAKER_02: So kudos to uh an elite defensive coordinator just whooping the poop out of Bama Sean Bishop.
- 52:28SPEAKER_00: He should be in that Heisman top 10, but he's not, and I don't know why he is uh he's a real man.
- 52:34SPEAKER_00: 32 for 159, two scores.
- 52:37SPEAKER_00: Good goodness.
- 52:38SPEAKER_02: Good grief.
- 52:39SPEAKER_02: Good grief.
- 52:39SPEAKER_02: The Heisman, the Heisman, the Heisman trophy ceremony needs to be like 17 people this year.
- 52:44SPEAKER_02: I swear.
- 52:44SPEAKER_02: We've had so many elite performers this year.
- 52:47SPEAKER_02: I know it's only I think it's only four invites, maybe five at most, but we need we need to expand that uh studio of about 20 more people and get all their favorite.
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: Where are we at right now?
- 52:57SPEAKER_01: Who's the I mean obviously Jeremiah Smith is the favorite.
- 53:00SPEAKER_01: Uh is he almost even money?
- 53:02SPEAKER_01: I think Mensa is to step up a little bit.
- 53:05SPEAKER_00: Smith is about even money.
- 53:07SPEAKER_00: I think the Julian Saiyan injury might be affecting that a little bit.
- 53:10SPEAKER_00: Mensa is right there behind him.
- 53:12SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, that's right.
- 53:13SPEAKER_02: As somebody who's currently holding, as a Trinidad's number three, CJ Carr is four, which I think seems like a long shot.
- 53:18SPEAKER_02: Just you legree number five.
- 53:21SPEAKER_00: Bear Bachmeyer moving his way up to number six.
- 53:23SPEAKER_02: Just Legree's up there.
- 53:25SPEAKER_02: Um, as a as a as a holder of a Darien Mensa Heisman ticket, I had forgotten about the quarterback.
- 53:30SPEAKER_02: That actually might give me some life.
- 53:32SPEAKER_02: My Mensa ticket might be a live one.
- 53:34SPEAKER_02: So that's good stuff.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: I love better.
- 53:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:37SPEAKER_02: Um, Mark, who's Iowa have I know we're actually talking about Iowa because Iowa's on a buy, but who the what's what do they have next?
- 53:41SPEAKER_02: Do you remember the top of your head?
- 53:43SPEAKER_00: Minnesota.
- 53:45SPEAKER_01: Let me take a look it up.
- 53:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, there we go.
- 53:46SPEAKER_01: Minnesota.
- 53:47SPEAKER_01: We're going to good stuff.
- 53:48SPEAKER_01: Two Minnesota.
- 53:49SPEAKER_00: To Minnesota.
- 53:51SPEAKER_00: Two Minnesota.
- 53:52SPEAKER_01: Tricky spot.
- 53:52SPEAKER_01: Tricky spot.
- 53:53SPEAKER_01: Minnesota's showing some life.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: So we'll see.
- 53:56SPEAKER_01: Then we've got Wisconsin coming to town, and then we get to go to the new Northwestern Stadium.
- 54:01SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 54:02SPEAKER_01: On November 7th.
- 54:05SPEAKER_01: It will be a fun game.
- 54:06SPEAKER_00: It will show you that weekend.
- 54:08SPEAKER_00: You gotta start by you gotta start by mentioning the Iowa Minnesota game uh wins the trophy of the Floyd of Rosedale.
- 54:21SPEAKER_00: Is that is that is that one a mug?
- 54:23SPEAKER_00: What's what's a Floyd of Rosedale?
- 54:24SPEAKER_00: That is the 98-pound bronze pig.
- 54:28SPEAKER_00: It's a hundred pound, it's a hundred pound metal pig as the trophy for Minnesota, Iowa.
- 54:36SPEAKER_00: The Floyd of Rosedale.
- 54:37SPEAKER_00: That's the greatest of all the trophies, I say.
- 54:40SPEAKER_02: I'm a big fan of the I'm a big fan of the Golden Chalet, which is the uh USC uh Notre Dame one, but the golden pig is pretty sweet, too.
- 54:48SPEAKER_02: That's a good one.
