Last time we learned a bunch of breakfast words: das Brötchen, die Marmelade, der Käse, die Wurst, das Ei. Luna: Yeah. But we didn't really make sentences with them. I want to say 'I eat bread' or 'I drink coffee'. Lucas: Perfect. That's exactly today's topic. Simple sentences with 'ich esse' and 'ich trinke'. Luna: Okay, so 'ich esse' is 'I eat', and 'ich trinke' is 'I drink'. Lucas: Exactly. So to say 'I eat bread', you say: Ich esse Brot. Luna: Ich esse Brot. Lucas: Good. Brot is bread. And 'I drink coffee' is: Ich trinke Kaffee. Luna: Ich trinke Kaffee. That's easy. Lucas: Now you try: I eat an egg. Luna: Ich esse... ein Ei. Lucas: Yes! Ich esse ein Ei. And 'I drink milk'? Luna: Ich trinke Milch. Lucas: Perfect. So let's practice a little conversation. Luna, I'll ask you 'Isst du Brot?' — that's 'Do you eat bread?'. Luna: Isst du Brot? Hmm. Ja, ich esse Brot. Lucas: Great. And 'Trinkst du Kaffee?' — 'Do you drink coffee?' Luna: Trinkst du Kaffee? Ja, ich trinke Kaffee. Lucas: Awesome. So now you can ask and answer. Let's hear both questions again. Luna: Isst du Brot? Trinkst du Kaffee? Lucas: Perfect. And the answers: Ja, ich esse Brot. Ja, ich trinke Kaffee. Luna: What if I want to say no? Like 'Nein, ich esse kein Brot'? Lucas: Oh, you're jumping ahead! That's negation with 'kein'. We'll do that another time. For now, stick with 'ja'. Luna: Okay, okay. So today we have: Ich esse Brot. Ich trinke Kaffee. Ich esse ein Ei. Ich trinke Milch. Lucas: And the questions: Isst du Brot? Trinkst du Kaffee? Luna: Let's do a mini dialogue. I'll be me, you be a friend. Lucas: Okay. Guten Morgen, Luna.
