Transcript
- 0:00Hello, my name is Leslie and I am the host of the Why Not Today podcast.
- 0:06This is a podcast to celebrate people who have been courageous and said, why not today?
- 0:11I started this podcast in honor of my father, Patrick Cain, who often said, why not today?
- 0:16I'm based in Reston, Virginia, a planned community right outside of Washington, DC.
- 0:20Thanks for joining us today.
- 0:22So I'm excited.
- 0:23We are officially this week starting a, instead of twice a month, we're going to every week
- 0:28podcast, which is kind of fun and exciting.
- 0:31Except for saying that, I think we're skipping next week.
- 0:34That's okay.
- 0:35Starting in January, officially.
- 0:38So and so my guest today is somebody I've known for several years, Liz Kemp, and she
- 0:44has a spin studio here where I live, but I found something new about her the other day.
- 0:50And so she's here to share about her courageous moments with her studio, but also we're going
- 0:55to talk about the one word and intentions as we start the new year.
- 0:59So I always talk about how we met, where we connected.
- 1:01So Liz lives in Reston, but I didn't meet you until you opened the spin studio at Lake
- 1:07Ann and met you through that when you just probably met you before you opened and then
- 1:13went to a couple of sessions, but then really got to know you better or you got to know
- 1:18me better because I put out on social media one day that I was looking for somebody to
- 1:22help work with my younger sister as down sender with some exercise and you reached out, you
- 1:28have a nephew that's down down the center.
- 1:30And so Liz works with Amanda every week and walks around the lake and does exercises.
- 1:36So and I'm sure I'll show you everything I don't want you to think about our family
- 1:43hanging out with Amanda.
- 1:44So I love that connection and that, you know, we become like become like family through
- 1:49connections of business.
- 1:51So and I had no idea you did the my intention thing training.
- 1:54So you know, it's funny, you know, things about people who don't know everything about
- 1:58them.
- 1:59So introduce yourself, Liz, just a quick bio with a fun fact and then we'll encourage
- 2:05and your courage stories.
- 2:07Sounds good.
- 2:08Yeah, thank you for having me.
- 2:10So I'm Liz Camp and I'm the founder of new trail as Leslie mentioned.
- 2:15And yeah, I feel like we've known each other forever, even though we haven't.
- 2:20But yeah, the studio has now been open for about five years and I have lived and rest
- 2:26in for about 15 years, almost 15 years now.
- 2:32And I, we love living here.
- 2:36And we have three kids and a dog and just thoroughly enjoy, you know, the rest in life
- 2:44and being not far from Lake Ann.
- 2:46That was a priority for us when we bought our house.
- 2:50So yeah, we love this area.
- 2:54And I'm originally from upstate New York.
- 2:56And I like to say that I went to college in Baltimore and when I realized that the sun
- 3:00could shine and there could be snow on the ground at the same time, then I realized I
- 3:04wouldn't be going north farther north in the mid Atlantic again.
- 3:09And so I'm definitely one of those people who's hoping for snow though this winter.
- 3:13I do love the snow.
- 3:14Can't be fun, but we don't want to like you up there.
- 3:18Yeah, true, true.
- 3:20Yeah, well, I'm excited.
- 3:21I know you'd lived and rested not long, but yeah, yeah, we're coming up on 15 years.
- 3:26Crazy.
- 3:27I've lived in rest since I was two.
- 3:33So yeah, well, a little different there.
- 3:36So Liz, what does courage mean to you?
- 3:40Start there.
- 3:41Yeah.
- 3:42To me, I think it just means acting when you don't know what the outcome is going to be.
- 3:49I think I am very much type A. A lot of people would say I'm very type A and I like to know
- 3:57what's coming and I like to see what's coming down the path.
- 4:02And so for me personally, courage is definitely acting on the unknown.
- 4:09And yeah, but love that.
- 4:12So you started, you opened new trail five years ago.
- 4:16So let's talk about that courageous move and starting that and what motivated you and was
- 4:22it scary knowing and then you probably open, were you open a year and then COVID?
- 4:28Just yeah, a year and a couple of months before COVID started.
- 4:33So yeah, I mean it was, in a lot of ways, it was a really long road to open new trail
- 4:39because I worked in the fitness industry.
- 4:42I started in college teaching classes and had worked in the industry.
- 4:48It worked for the town of Herndon running their fitness programming.
- 4:52So that experience between the town of Herndon working for a YWCA, a couple other fitness
- 5:00facilities realized that I really wanted to do it my own way.
- 5:06And I couldn't really do that unless I really branched out on my own.
- 5:11So I knew that I wanted to stay home, be a stay at home mom with our kids when they
- 5:17were little.
- 5:19So it kind of was put on the back burner intentionally just sort of like got to wait until the time
- 5:24is right.
- 5:27And so during that time, we had our three babies and I taught some classes with my mom's group
- 5:34and still sort of kept my foot in the door fitness.
- 5:36We were working another job where you just not just but we're home with the kids.
- 5:41Just home with the kids.
- 5:42Yeah.
- 5:43Home with the kids.
- 5:44Just is not a good word.
- 5:45Yeah, just is not a good word for that.
- 5:46That is very true.
- 5:49But still kind of continued my fitness journey in terms of teaching classes to my mom's group
- 5:55and being involved in running and walking groups and things like that.
- 6:01But really new trail in the iteration of Lake Ann once the pharmacy closed at Lake Ann.
- 6:08So for those of you who aren't familiar with Lake Ann Plaza and Reston, we have a beautiful
- 6:12lakefront mixed use area.
- 6:15And there was an original pharmacy that was also a little cafe and the post office all
- 6:23wrapped into one.
- 6:24And when that candy store with the main lady when we were kids, I forget the candy store.
- 6:30So when that closed down, let's see, I was not even pregnant with my youngest.
- 6:38I think that timing is about right.
- 6:41And I remember saying to my husband, like, that's the spot.
- 6:45I just I'm not ready to do it right now.
- 6:47But oh my gosh, that's my space.
- 6:49Like that is where I need to do this.
- 6:51Yes.
- 6:52And then, you know, but I, I knew truly that I, I didn't, I couldn't take it on in that
- 6:59moment.
- 7:00So I could just kind of waited and the space stayed vacant and stayed vacant.
- 7:06And I kept watching it and kept saying, oh, I just did.
- 7:09I'm going to be so upset if somebody else goes in there.
- 7:15And I still can vividly remember the day sitting with my two sister-in-laws at Calypso's, a
- 7:21restaurant across the way, and saying, I think I just need to do it.
- 7:26Like I just, it feels like that's my space.
- 7:30I think I just need to do it.
- 7:32And why not today?
- 7:34Why not today?
- 7:35Why not today moment?
- 7:36Yeah.
- 7:37And it just kind of felt like this overwhelming sense of like, yeah, I have to do it.
- 7:42And if I don't act, I'm going to regret it.
- 7:44And I don't want to regret not just trying.
- 7:49And then it just kind of spiraled from there.
- 7:52I reached out to the landlord, got in touch with the broker and started the very long
- 7:57process of negotiating and was able to secure the space.
- 8:04So my daughter, our youngest was a year and a couple months when we, no, more than that,
- 8:13maybe two, two and a couple months when we first started really the process.
- 8:19So yeah, it was one of those, I don't want to look back and regret it.
- 8:24Yeah.
- 8:25So which is what her does, just doing the things and it wasn't perfect.
- 8:29And we had to spread a lot of stuff in between.
- 8:32Yeah.
- 8:33Putting the things on the wall, right?
- 8:35Yeah.
- 8:36All of it.
- 8:37All of it.
- 8:38Lots of, lots of learning curve there.
- 8:41But I think too, when you believe in what you're doing, it's easier to be courageous.
- 8:48And I feel like I just so deeply believed that the service I wanted to provide people
- 8:54was worth pursuing, excuse me, worth pursuing that, that also is what really pushed me to
- 9:03do it.
- 9:05And when we were talking the other day, like you're a spin studio, but you do other things
- 9:11and other exercise and when you work with me as a personal trainer, but what you said,
- 9:16I loved and so aligned with the why not today message and what I'm trying to do with this
- 9:22podcast is why do women come to new trial?
- 9:26Right.
- 9:27Yeah.
- 9:28I think that to me, it's always been deeper than just a workout.
- 9:33You know, my degree is in psychology and for me in high school, fitness became an outlet.
- 9:40It became a way to improve my mental health.
- 9:44It was a way for me to connect with other people.
- 9:47And so new trail to me, so, you know, I named new trail new trail because it's a new trail
- 9:55and rest in it's a new way again for the listeners who aren't here in town.
- 10:01New trail was founded by Bob Simon and the community is connected by trails.
- 10:08There are 55 miles of trails and Bob said his vision was for people to meet on the trails
- 10:14and connect on the trails.
- 10:15And so when I was trying to figure out what to call the studio new trail is what came out
- 10:22because I thought, well, my whole goal is people to connect people to feel seen people
- 10:27to, you know, be there to work out for more than just burning calories.
- 10:33It's about feeling good, making connections, being a human as having that human connection
- 10:39is just so big.
- 10:41And so for me, yeah, I think all women in particular just want to feel seen and they
- 10:47want that human connection.
- 10:49And so we try to provide that.
- 10:53That's awesome.
- 10:54And you know, I never heard that side of it and it makes so much sense.
- 10:58And I taught water rubrics for 13 years and the same thing.
- 11:01People came for the community and it goes back to Lake Ann too, that Lake Ann was designed
- 11:09and all the original shopping centers and rest of you had to get out of your car and
- 11:13walk and build a tree and living.
- 11:16I live right here, right?
- 11:17Probably if I had a really good arm for a rock at the studio, but you know, it is connection
- 11:23and you I can't walk out of my door and walk to new trail without probably running to three
- 11:28or 10 people that I know.
- 11:30And that's what I love about this community.
- 11:32So it's not just about working out.
- 11:34Yeah.
- 11:35Yeah.
- 11:36So much more.
- 11:37I mean, you talk about one word which you'd never heard of, but you talk teach classes
- 11:41on something else.
- 11:43Is it my intent?
- 11:44Yeah, my intent is.
- 11:46Let's talk about that and what that is.
- 11:49How people come about doing it.
- 11:51Yeah.
- 11:52So my intent.
- 11:53Gosh, I should.
- 11:54Yeah, I was going to say, how did I first stumble upon my intent?
- 12:03I think actually it was at a fitness conference.
- 12:07And they, they were just starting out and my intent, if you're not familiar, it's a company
- 12:13that does, they do workshops, but they do it.
- 12:16It's all about finding your word, your inspiration for the year or this particular time in your
- 12:22life.
- 12:23And then you hand stamp it into a bracelet or a necklace.
- 12:28Which is funny.
- 12:29I have it and I don't have it on today, but I do have a my intent bracelet, but I have
- 12:32made.
- 12:33Okay.
- 12:34It says why not today?
- 12:35There you go.
- 12:36And that's kind of how I got introduced to it at a conference and, and I just thought,
- 12:40wow, I love the idea of living with intention.
- 12:45I mean, that's the whole point of it is we are all rushing through life.
- 12:50And so how can we be intentional with the choices that we're making day to day with
- 12:56our goal for any particular time or year in life?
- 13:01And for me, it really fits in line with the goal for the studio, which is to go deeper.
- 13:07Right.
- 13:08So again, it's not just the workout.
- 13:09It's the how do you feel and your overall well being.
- 13:12And so my intent to me is along those same lines.
- 13:16How do we live with intention?
- 13:19And so I also love using it on the, at the studio because I do think people particularly
- 13:28around this time of year, when we're looking at New Year's resolutions and we think, okay,
- 13:32yes, here's my goal for next year.
- 13:34I'm going to lose 20 pounds.
- 13:38And it's really hard to just say, I'm going to lose 20 pounds and have that motivate you
- 13:43all year long.
- 13:45And so to me, I really like flipping it for people and saying, okay, so I understand that's
- 13:51your goal, but why is it your goal?
- 13:54So is it that you want to lose 20 pounds because you want to be healthier so that you can run
- 14:01around with your kids or grandkids or you want to be able to travel next year and you
- 14:08know that it will be easier for you to travel health wise if you're in better condition.
- 14:13So then you kind of go deeper from there.
- 14:16Right.
- 14:17So is it the, you know, the time?
- 14:20Is it how you feel?
- 14:22What is that then going to allow you to do?
- 14:26So I think I really enjoy the layers, peeling back the layers, right, to see what truly is
- 14:32motivating someone to either add to their life or also potentially remove things from their
- 14:41life.
- 14:42Absolutely.
- 14:43Yeah.
- 14:44So in your workshops, I love the digging deeper with the why and totally relate a friend of
- 14:48mine the other day, text me because I think my word is going to be health, which can encompass
- 14:54the lose whatever, how much weight or and talking about the grandparents or one play
- 14:59with your kids.
- 15:00My niece just had a baby and my brother-in-law is lifting weights and wants to get healthier
- 15:05so we can throw the baby up in the air.
- 15:07There you go.
- 15:08You know, what a visual.
- 15:10So how do you help people feel back?
- 15:12The why?
- 15:13What are you doing the workshop for?
- 15:14Yeah.
- 15:15So people, you know, we're doing a one word painting event January 4th and I know your
- 15:21workshops at the end of January.
- 15:22So some tips and ideas of how do you figure out that word?
- 15:28Yeah.
- 15:29So usually our workshops start with a little bit of meditation to just kind of open people
- 15:35up to allowing words to come to them.
- 15:39You know, I think you and I were chatting about our own words and saying things like,
- 15:45oh, yeah, and then this one word just kind of kept coming to me.
- 15:49And I think once you get used to doing this process, that does start to happen.
- 15:53Right.
- 15:54You just start feeling like once tapping you on the shoulder over and over again.
- 15:58And so for us, I think in the workshop setting where you're limited on time, I think it's
- 16:02helpful to start with a little meditation and just breathing and open up some ideas
- 16:08of questions, right?
- 16:10And then we're starting to think about what do I want to be doing, what do I want to be
- 16:16doing, questions to start letting people think about what do I want more of in my life?
- 16:22What do I want less of in my life?
- 16:26What do I want to feel like next year?
- 16:30What do you know?
- 16:33What, what change do I want to see?
- 16:37And then we talk a little bit deeper and I tend to share stories of sort of passwords
- 16:42of mine and how I reached them.
- 16:46And then we kind of brainstorm a little bit in the group setting for people if they want
- 16:50to share and talk about what their words are.
- 16:53And they might come up with something and I might then respond with a question, asking
- 16:57them again, just sort of that searching question to get a little deeper to what they're looking
- 17:04for.
- 17:06And how long, how long are your workshops and determine your life?
- 17:09It's about depends on the number of people, but usually about 60 minutes.
- 17:15Okay.
- 17:16Yeah.
- 17:17Yeah.
- 17:18Love that.
- 17:19So do you have a word that, that you've had in the past?
- 17:22How many, I don't know how many years you've been doing this, but you have a word that
- 17:25was just super memorable?
- 17:27I mean, probably my most memorable is last year's but or 2020 had a lot of, and it's
- 17:33interesting how it kind of twists, like I probably shared this on the last podcast, but
- 17:382020, my word was connect and my friend was father and we kind of laughed about it in
- 17:43March, but we're like, all right, it's an invitation to figure out how to connect and
- 17:49gather in different ways.
- 17:51Yeah.
- 17:52So it totally can unfold in totally different ways.
- 17:54So do you have a story of a word or intention?
- 18:00Last year mine was feel the, but the year before that mine was here, H-E-R-E.
- 18:12And what I found helpful about that one was wearing it on my bracelet on my wrist, because
- 18:19my goal for that year, my intention was to be more present.
- 18:24And so to me, that meant here, wherever that wrist is with that bracelet, just be here,
- 18:32be present.
- 18:34I think the, as a mom, the balance between work and kids, I mean, balance again, I don't
- 18:40think it really exists, but try in the world of constant cell phone and constant connection,
- 18:47right?
- 18:48When I'm here in this moment, I want my attention to be here.
- 18:54And so to me that year in particular, it was so helpful to have it on my wrist because
- 18:58I literally would start to multitask, see my wrist reach for something and go, nope,
- 19:04just stop, just be here.
- 19:07You can get to that in a minute.
- 19:10So it was helpful in a different way that year, I think, being such an actual physical
- 19:16reminder that I would see on my wrist.
- 19:18Where last year I didn't even, I actually didn't wear my bracelet as much as I normally
- 19:22did because I think I had really just encompassed it so much that I didn't need to see the reminder
- 19:31to focus on it.
- 19:32So yeah, you need different things in different years.
- 19:35My bracelet says why not today, but I think I'm going to need to get my word to remind
- 19:39me because I put it around my house.
- 19:42I paint it with our one word event.
- 19:45It's there, but then it's, you know, and I actually have my graphic person a lot of times
- 19:50use a fun graphic and give me a graphic and I print it just on a photo paper and put it
- 19:57around my house so it's there.
- 20:00But I think the wrist thing, because mine this year was space and a lot of it was being
- 20:05present in my space with who I was.
- 20:08But we forget and, you know, we're multitasking as you said or doing the other things.
- 20:15Yeah, and I've had people take so the, you know, you put your word into a metal ring
- 20:24and it's already on a bracelet, but I know a lot of people who cut them off the bracelet
- 20:27put it on a necklace, which I think is a nice way to do it.
- 20:30And I may do that this year.
- 20:32I like the idea of, you know, as you're sitting and thinking or working, you might pick up
- 20:36the necklace and just sort of fold it in your fingertips and remind yourself of the word,
- 20:41feel the word with your hands because it is stamped in there.
- 20:45So there are lots of different ways of doing it that I think.
- 20:48Well, and I wear a lot of times a starfish necklace and we'll talk about it because of
- 20:53the story of the starfish, you know, the story of the starfish.
- 20:56I don't know.
- 20:57So this guy was walking down the beach and picking up starfish and throwing it in the
- 21:01ocean and somebody walked up an older man walked.
- 21:04He's like, what are you doing?
- 21:05Because I'm saving the starfish.
- 21:07He's like, how could you possibly save the starfish?
- 21:09There's thousands on this beach.
- 21:11And he picked one up and threw it in the ocean and goes, I saved that one.
- 21:14And so I really try to live by that motto.
- 21:16Like you don't know who, what one person's life you're going to influence or how one
- 21:20person can make a difference in your life or just pouring into one person.
- 21:25Like you just never know who needs you that moment.
- 21:28Yeah.
- 21:29I love that.
- 21:30And that ties into being present with people.
- 21:33But yeah, the necklace thing, I often wear it and I touch it and feel it and talk about
- 21:38it.
- 21:39Yeah.
- 21:40I kind of like that idea of maybe making a necklace out of the word.
- 21:47Yeah.
- 21:48Well, you can come to the studio and do it.
- 21:51And I found somebody else that does stickers.
- 21:57She does handwriting.
- 21:59And I found her a couple of years ago.
- 22:02I was just scrolling on social media, mindlessly not being present probably.
- 22:06And she had this thing for like $5, you get your word on the sticker.
- 22:11And so I did it.
- 22:12And I happened to be out of town and had it sent to where I was, well, completely forgot
- 22:16about it.
- 22:18And my friend sent it to me and I'm like, what is this?
- 22:20And she does an amazing job with her packaging and marketing with the word and all kinds
- 22:25of a fun envelope.
- 22:26And it's a fun experience just to get your word, which is now on my laptop all the time.
- 22:30Yeah, which reminds me of another thing that you could do.
- 22:36And I did this one year with goals and I gave it to someone to mail to me like a few months
- 22:44later.
- 22:45So, and you know, you could do that with your word too.
- 22:48That's a good idea.
- 22:49Have someone mail it to you.
- 22:51And it was such a sort of a reminder moment of like, okay, you said this was going to
- 22:58be your goal for the year.
- 23:00Are you really doing it?
- 23:02Yeah.
- 23:03Let's check in.
- 23:04I think sometimes just check in.
- 23:06Sorry.
- 23:07Yeah, because I talked to a friend of mine about her word for this year and she's like,
- 23:09I don't remember what my word is last year.
- 23:12Yeah.
- 23:13And so I literally take my, we do the painting and I leave the painting in my bathroom.
- 23:18So I see it every morning when I get it.
- 23:19Every day.
- 23:20It reminds me.
- 23:21Yeah, I like that.
- 23:22Yeah.
- 23:23So any other tips or ideas on helping people come up with their intention word?
- 23:28I think if you have the time to let yourself sit with it a little bit.
- 23:33I think that is always good.
- 23:36And maybe that just means, you know, spending an extra couple of minutes being open to it
- 23:42morphing into something different.
- 23:46Yeah, I think, I think just being open to suggesting, to suggestions that, that your,
- 23:57your brain and body will, will give you.
- 23:59I know it sounds weird.
- 24:00I've got two, I'm toying between.
- 24:02I'm just kind of looking and watching.
- 24:04And last year I knew what my word was going to be.
- 24:06And then all of a sudden it wasn't.
- 24:08It was like, Oh, it's not it.
- 24:10This is it.
- 24:11Yeah.
- 24:12So we're going to talk about how to encourage people before we do that.
- 24:15We started on the podcast having sponsorships.
- 24:17So new trails like Frank is our sponsor for this podcast this week.
- 24:22It says it's located in Lake N.
- 24:24Pause in Reston, Virginia.
- 24:26And they offer group indoor cycling, strength and yoga classes, as well as personal training.
- 24:31New trails mission is to make fitness successful for everybody through their challenging yet
- 24:35achievable workouts where all levels are welcome.
- 24:38And she has special for anybody listens to why not today.
- 24:41You can get a free class by just going to, and we'll put this in the show notes too,
- 24:48www.NewTrailCycling.com slash free class.
- 24:51So a good way to end your year, start your year right, or, and we can also share about
- 24:57your intention workshop.
- 24:59And for those of you listening, and if you're local and want to join us, we are doing the
- 25:03one wine women in one word painting on January 4th at Pino's palette in Herndon.
- 25:08And it's another way to have your word present for you.
- 25:12So I always ask my guests, how would you encourage somebody else to be courageous?
- 25:21I just think it's always so much better to look back with no regrets.
- 25:26I so rarely regret the things that I try.
- 25:33So if you're on the fence about something, you know, I do think it's not wise to go into
- 25:39things blindly, right?
- 25:41So look in all directions, but trust yourself.
- 25:47I think deep down, we all kind of know the right path.
- 25:53And so, yeah, no one wants regrets.
- 25:57So it's worth taking the leap.
- 26:00Absolutely.
- 26:01And it's interesting.
- 26:02There's something I've been toying with trying to make a decision on and it has to do with
- 26:08the word be seen.
- 26:10And after you said that the other day and it keeps popping up, I'm like, I just need to
- 26:13do it because it just doesn't come off.
- 26:16I just can't stop thinking about it.
- 26:18And I often share in this podcast and talk about Daniel Page.
- 26:21Do you know who that is?
- 26:23He's an author who actually lives in Northern Virginia, but he wrote a book about regrets.
- 26:29I don't remember exactly the title, but one of the things he said is we rarely regret the
- 26:36things we didn't do or that we do.
- 26:39We rarely regret things that we do.
- 26:41So let's just do those things.
- 26:42And that's really the why not today message, the little things, you know, and some days
- 26:47it's getting out of bed or going to the lot or, you know, starting businesses or just
- 26:52sitting at a restaurant looking at a space going, I know in my gut, that's mine and going,
- 26:56right?
- 26:57Aren't you glad you didn't?
- 26:59Yes.
- 27:00And timing is never right.
- 27:01No, you know, I just think there's no such thing.
- 27:07I don't really know anyone who said, Oh yeah, you know, things just perfectly lined up and
- 27:12slowed down and life was so easy.
- 27:14So I decided that was the perfect time.
- 27:16No, it just that doesn't happen.
- 27:19We are in a fast paced life and us living in Northern Virginia.
- 27:23It's a fast paced area.
- 27:26And so yeah, if you keep thinking to yourself, I might regret not doing this.
- 27:31Then there's your answer.
- 27:32Yeah, we just, you just have to take that stuff and do it.
- 27:36Yeah, there's always there are always lessons in things that don't work out.
- 27:41Right.
- 27:42So you still have the lessons and you're further ahead because of that.
- 27:45Right.
- 27:46Well, I always try to connect back to my dad and people always say, well, I never met your
- 27:51dad, which did you ever meet my dad?
- 27:53Probably not.
- 27:54No, no.
- 27:55Never saw him floating around resting.
- 27:57Everybody wants to explain them.
- 27:58They're like, Oh, I know who that is.
- 28:01But so couple of things.
- 28:03One, I didn't know you worked with the town of Herndon.
- 28:05I don't know if you knew this, but my dad worked for the town of Herndon.
- 28:08I didn't know that.
- 28:09I'm planning it years and years and years ago.
- 28:12He was a city planner and he actually did the redevelopment of Rochester.
- 28:16I don't know if you knew that.
- 28:18No, I don't think I did know.
- 28:20Yeah, he did that.
- 28:21I was born in Buffalo, but he worked all over the country.
- 28:24So I was actually born in New York, too.
- 28:27And his first office was at Lake Ann.
- 28:29Oh, you know, his office was at the townhouses, you know, where the coffee shop is.
- 28:35He was over at the aunt.
- 28:37Amazing.
- 28:38Yeah, so lots of points.
- 28:40Little connection.
- 28:41I know, and it feels like I should have met him at some point, just feeling like I know
- 28:48your mom so well now and your sister.
- 28:51So.
- 28:52Well, it's funny when I, as I said, when I meet people and they're like, Oh, I know
- 28:56who your dad is.
- 28:57Or I actually had a new customer come in here that I knew through the chamber and she came
- 29:02into my house and I had a picture of my dad.
- 29:03They're just like, how do you know Pat came?
- 29:05And then she thought, Oh, wait a minute.
- 29:08I never thought about that.
- 29:10That's hysterical.
- 29:11Yes.
- 29:12Well, Amanda and I often go and walk down to the bench that has his name.
- 29:17We need to get that redone because you can't really read it anymore.
- 29:20It seems to be polished up a little bit.
- 29:23Yes, exactly.
- 29:24So, well, this was a pleasure.
- 29:25I'm so excited that we thank you and acted and people recommended you.
- 29:30And you know what?
- 29:31Christmas is this like in a few days and our next episode is the weekend of Christmas.
- 29:37So we are every week.
- 29:38I thought there was an extra weekend there.
- 29:41I was trying to give you an extra week of a mom with three kids.
- 29:44Yeah, I need another week.
- 29:46So I really appreciate you doing that this episode this week before Christmas.
