- 0:37Speaker 5: Welcome back to now Willie Wednesday. I'll be on the
- 0:39Speaker 5: road this weekend. Will not be in Brian Kolch Station
- 0:42Speaker 5: for the opening of Aggie Baseball. So it's been a
- 0:46Speaker 5: long time since I've missed opening Day, but I will
- 0:48Speaker 5: this year. I'll be in North Carolina following some more
- 0:52Speaker 5: softball next weekend. But A and M getting started with
- 0:56Speaker 5: a Tennessee Tech and before we get he Susan, We're
- 1:01Speaker 5: going to talk a little bit about the Aggies. I'm
- 1:03Speaker 5: very bullish on this team with the talent they have
- 1:06Speaker 5: coming back. I know that you know you cannot absorb
- 1:13Speaker 5: the injuries. A and M had last year at four
- 1:18Speaker 5: different times of the season. The players you lost and
- 1:22Speaker 5: perform at the level that the expectation on the preseason were.
- 1:26Speaker 5: The team that was rated number one in the country
- 1:28Speaker 5: going into last year never step foot on the diamond
- 1:33Speaker 5: together one time, and up until after getting crell back
- 1:43Speaker 5: up until a bad weekend against Missouri, they had climbed
- 1:47Speaker 5: back into the position they should have been in. Now,
- 1:50Speaker 5: what did the team learn last year? What did the
- 1:52Speaker 5: coaches learn last year? Being put in that position?
- 1:56Speaker 2: Where does it fit with A? And and this year?
- 1:58Speaker 5: Rated thirteenth in the pre season and the SEC is
- 2:03Speaker 5: too low? This team has more talent than that, but
- 2:07Speaker 5: the questions about them and what happened last year leads
- 2:11Speaker 5: it to being in that position. Bullish on this team
- 2:14Speaker 5: in a big way. Starting pitching a lineup where if
- 2:20Speaker 5: you're telling me that I may not see Sawyer Far,
- 2:24Speaker 5: I might not see Travis Chestnut, I might not see
- 2:28Speaker 5: Ben Royo on the field in the early going. I
- 2:32Speaker 5: might not see Blake Bender up on the field in
- 2:35Speaker 5: the early going. I may not see budding freshmen's outfielder
- 2:41Speaker 5: Jorian Wilson in the early going up until they go
- 2:46Speaker 5: and after they go to play in Arlington in that
- 2:50Speaker 5: tournament where you're going to face College World Series contenders
- 2:58Speaker 5: in UCLA and on a state, UCLA the number one
- 3:02Speaker 5: team in the country. Saturday, February twenty eighth, It'll start
- 3:07Speaker 5: a little after seven. I'll be on the air. Get
- 3:11Speaker 5: ready to watch that game. If you want to get
- 3:15Speaker 5: on Flow College and watch the MG Bank Classic Baseball
- 3:20Speaker 5: Series up there, you will know a lot more about
- 3:22Speaker 5: A and M. Then you come back the next week.
- 3:25Speaker 5: What have you learned? Are there players that are in
- 3:29Speaker 5: positions they don't need to play in? Does Gravit Grohovac
- 3:32Speaker 5: need to come off a first base and move to
- 3:34Speaker 5: third and you shuffle the infield back up.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Well, then you get the next.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Week at Oakland to determine if it's going to work
- 3:43Speaker 5: before you go on the road to play Oh you
- 3:46Speaker 5: and Norman.
- 3:47Speaker 2: The schedules set up nice.
- 3:49Speaker 5: They're in a position where they can figure out where
- 3:52Speaker 5: their best nine on the field need to be, where
- 3:55Speaker 5: they can figure out who needs to be in the rotation.
- 3:58Speaker 5: They've got to stay away from injuries. They've already had one.
- 4:02Speaker 5: But if you get Todeo and you get Moss to
- 4:07Speaker 5: be a one two like they can be. Then you
- 4:11Speaker 5: give guys back behind them in the rotation a chance
- 4:16Speaker 5: to step forward and have the kind of seasons that
- 4:20Speaker 5: can lead to big things.
- 4:22Speaker 2: And that's what I'm looking forward to.
- 4:27Speaker 5: This is not just three guys and then they're gonna
- 4:29Speaker 5: fall off the table next year.
- 4:31Speaker 2: They're not.
- 4:34Speaker 5: So if you heard that earlier today, I'm going to
- 4:37Speaker 5: disagree with that pretty vehemently because it's not just you know,
- 4:44Speaker 5: three guys and then you're not gonna have anybody but
- 4:51Speaker 5: Aiden Simms will be there to help lead next year
- 4:54Speaker 5: in the pitching staff I just talked about far Terence
- 4:59Speaker 5: Kiel will be back. You will have these freshmen in
- 5:02Speaker 5: this year's class, and Kellner and Partida and Wilson. This
- 5:09Speaker 5: is not just a one year thing. Yeah they'll fill
- 5:11Speaker 5: in some spots, but this is not just a one
- 5:14Speaker 5: year thing. So I'm excited about the baseball team just
- 5:17Speaker 5: like I am about the softball team. And it all
- 5:22Speaker 5: starts this Friday, coming up with Tennessee Tech coming to town.
- 5:27Speaker 5: So tune in sports Radio eleven fifty five forty Maybe
- 5:33Speaker 5: it's five four. Let me see what time it is,
- 5:40Speaker 5: five forty five pre game. See, I thought we were
- 5:42Speaker 5: getting five extra minutes this year. Maybe we're having the
- 5:44Speaker 5: first pitch at five after I was thinking we were
- 5:47Speaker 5: gonna have twenty minutes a pregame. But we've got a
- 5:49Speaker 5: great group brownie bed in color. We've got lots of
- 5:56Speaker 5: good guys that are gonna be, you know, helping with this.
- 6:01Speaker 5: Uh Brig Evin's coming on. He is going to be providing,
- 6:06Speaker 5: you know, commentary this year. I don't know, some guy
- 6:11Speaker 5: from the Savannah Bananas is going to be doing games
- 6:16Speaker 5: with us, and I think that everybody will be pretty
- 6:21Speaker 5: excited about the fact that, you know, you get to
- 6:25Speaker 5: listen to Hayden Shot and he'll be doing some radio commentary.
- 6:30Speaker 5: So we've got a great group. I chased Briant softball
- 6:33Speaker 5: the spring brown He's got bo So how about Burgevin
- 6:38Speaker 5: and Shot coming on to the A and M broadcast
- 6:41Speaker 5: crew this year.
- 6:42Speaker 2: It'll be fun to listen to.
- 6:43Speaker 5: So that all starts Friday night, five point forty five
- 6:46Speaker 5: right here on Sports Radio eleven fifty. Let's go off
- 6:50Speaker 5: the phone lines as we're going to bring in Hey
- 6:53Speaker 5: suss Orties to talk astros. Opening the first day of
- 7:00Speaker 5: spring training. Pitchers and catchers have reported, Hey, suys, how are.
- 7:04Speaker 2: You doing today?
- 7:06Speaker 6: I am doing very well. How are you?
- 7:09Speaker 5: It's spring sports. I know there's a lockout on the horizon.
- 7:14Speaker 5: I know that that baseball has all this trouble. But
- 7:18Speaker 5: you know, I'm a guy that when I look and say, hey,
- 7:20Speaker 5: I'm still going to have college sports to take me
- 7:24Speaker 5: through June July, I.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Get to I just to have a little bit of
- 7:28Speaker 2: it early.
- 7:29Speaker 5: But what should Astro fans expect as they have reported
- 7:33Speaker 5: and getting ready for the twenty twenty sixth season.
- 7:38Speaker 6: I think yeahs are going to go into the season
- 7:41Speaker 6: as a team that should be considered an AO West contender.
- 7:46Speaker 6: I think, you know, I have to see the Seattle
- 7:49Speaker 6: Mariners do it a little bit longer for me to
- 7:51Speaker 6: think that they're the top team in the AO West.
- 7:55Speaker 6: The Rangers, I don't know. I have to see more
- 7:58Speaker 6: of from them and the Angels, God bless them. The
- 8:02Speaker 6: Angs have kind of gotten better, but I think they're
- 8:05Speaker 6: two three.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Years away, just in time for Las Vegas, right.
- 8:10Speaker 6: Yep, exactly, That's exactly what they're trying to build forward.
- 8:15Speaker 2: This team.
- 8:17Speaker 5: A lot of parts that left two years ago. This
- 8:23Speaker 5: was kind of to bring together this year's team. Are
- 8:26Speaker 5: there less questions? Going into this year's team than there
- 8:29Speaker 5: were last year, or they're just different questions.
- 8:35Speaker 6: Ah, that's a very good question. I guess there are
- 8:38Speaker 6: fewer questions because last year we didn't know about camp Smith, right,
- 8:43Speaker 6: we didn't know about the outfield. I think the outfield
- 8:46Speaker 6: is pretty I think the answers are pretty much set.
- 8:49Speaker 6: The questions this year is what do they do with
- 8:52Speaker 6: their excess death? What do you do with East Oak
- 8:56Speaker 6: part is? I would not trade them. The fact that
- 9:00Speaker 6: the Boston Red Sox acquired the Milwaukee Brewers third basement
- 9:04Speaker 6: really helps those people who want Paradis to stay, you know,
- 9:11Speaker 6: but they wanted left handed bad they would have wanted.
- 9:16Speaker 6: But with parade Is, where do you play him? Where
- 9:18Speaker 6: do you play Christian Walker? You know he's your first basement,
- 9:24Speaker 6: But does it make more sense to, you know, try
- 9:27Speaker 6: to get rid of him. I'm sure they would if
- 9:29Speaker 6: they could, but there's not much trade value for him
- 9:33Speaker 6: at this point.
- 9:36Speaker 5: Is is the infield set with Al Tuvey going to
- 9:42Speaker 5: be the second baseman and not going to spend as
- 9:46Speaker 5: much time in the outfield in twenty twenty.
- 9:48Speaker 6: Six, I would think that speaking of parda Is, I
- 9:56Speaker 6: would think that's where Paradas is going to get most
- 9:59Speaker 6: of his starts. I would think that all two ways
- 10:02Speaker 6: going to play left field, play second base. I think
- 10:11Speaker 6: you know he'll probably get as many starts in left
- 10:14Speaker 6: field as he does at second base. Okay, you know
- 10:19Speaker 6: Jordan Alvarez I would expect would be the DH. With
- 10:23Speaker 6: his injury history, they don't want him out there as much.
- 10:26Speaker 6: They didn't want him out there last year. Unfortunately, he
- 10:29Speaker 6: was never healthy enough to be out there as much
- 10:31Speaker 6: as it could have been an.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Issue, which is a shame.
- 10:38Speaker 5: I know, the injury there is. I don't think people
- 10:41Speaker 5: realize that he's actually an average or a little bit
- 10:47Speaker 5: above average left fielder.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I think he's worked harder to be a good outfielder.
- 10:54Speaker 6: He has. But you have to keep him healthy. So
- 10:58Speaker 6: you have to keep him off his knees. You have
- 11:00Speaker 6: to remember he just like three years ago, four years ago,
- 11:04Speaker 6: he had double knee surgery, right, Uh, so you want
- 11:10Speaker 6: to keep him healthy. Last year he had that arm issue,
- 11:16Speaker 6: the hand issue that really really ruined his year. I
- 11:20Speaker 6: would argue ruined the astro season. But what I will
- 11:25Speaker 6: tell you is that with his knee injuries, with his
- 11:29Speaker 6: history injuries, they don't want him out in left field
- 11:32Speaker 6: as much. Well, I think, I mean the poor the
- 11:36Speaker 6: poor guy, the poor guy got you know, got put
- 11:40Speaker 6: away for the season scoring a run. That's how much
- 11:43Speaker 6: bad luck he had last year.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Oh yeah, changed the changed the end of the season
- 11:48Speaker 2: for the Astros.
- 11:49Speaker 6: Yep, just when they thought they were finally gonna get
- 11:52Speaker 6: some some good games out of him.
- 11:54Speaker 2: He you know, it reminded me.
- 11:57Speaker 5: The crazy thing is it reminded me of the injuries
- 11:59Speaker 5: from for Texas A and M that there are certain
- 12:03Speaker 5: guys that you have to have out there, and when
- 12:06Speaker 5: you didn't have them, look what your team looked like.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Parde's was the exact same way.
- 12:14Speaker 6: Yeah, so you know, like I would, I would not
- 12:21Speaker 6: compare Jordan Alvarez to leveyon Moss, but those are two
- 12:28Speaker 6: guys that I would you know who I'd compare. I
- 12:31Speaker 6: compare perett As more than leveyon Moss. Where the big
- 12:36Speaker 6: dog is Jordan Albarez, right, another big dog would be
- 12:43Speaker 6: Jeremy Panyon. They lost both of those guys, but losing
- 12:47Speaker 6: Parrettes really sunk the ship because parrette Is in many
- 12:52Speaker 6: ways was their best hitter. He saw the most pitches.
- 12:57Speaker 6: He really was underappreciated it as far as being one
- 13:03Speaker 6: of the best players. Moss the same thing. You know,
- 13:07Speaker 6: you might have said, O Casey con Siptum was a
- 13:10Speaker 6: bigger star, right, and I would argue that he was.
- 13:13Speaker 6: I would, you know, I would argue that how was
- 13:16Speaker 6: a bigger star than Moss. But you needed Moss out there.
- 13:23Speaker 5: Yeah, that fit in certain positions that until they're gone,
- 13:26Speaker 5: you don't know what they were unlocking.
- 13:29Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, the they brought Carlos Korea and and
- 13:36Speaker 6: he's he's a good veteran player, but uh, fred Is
- 13:41Speaker 6: was your best player behind Jeremy Freda, Jeremy Penya last year,
- 13:49Speaker 6: and as soon as he was done like that, the
- 13:51Speaker 6: whole team kind of unraveled.
- 13:56Speaker 5: What's gonna happen at ketcher for the Astros this year
- 13:58Speaker 5: behind Joanny Diaz.
- 14:01Speaker 6: I think they're still trying to figure that out. I
- 14:03Speaker 6: think obviously at this point, Cessa Salazar is you know,
- 14:08Speaker 6: he's the answer. But I don't know how much they
- 14:11Speaker 6: believe in Cessa. They clearly would like, you know, like
- 14:18Speaker 6: to get another one. But it's you know, the guys
- 14:20Speaker 6: reported today and they worked out today for the first time,
- 14:24Speaker 6: so that you know, I think Cessa was just fine.
- 14:28Speaker 6: I think a bigger question is Ken Yeiner take the
- 14:33Speaker 6: next step? Which they need him to take the next step.
- 14:38Speaker 6: I think he kind of plateaud last year because he
- 14:42Speaker 6: and he may have regressed a little bit because he
- 14:44Speaker 6: was a better hitter as a rookie.
- 14:47Speaker 5: Is that step both offensively and defensively or on one
- 14:51Speaker 5: side or the other?
- 14:53Speaker 6: I think offensively, I think offensively, I think defensively. He's okay.
- 15:01Speaker 6: But he is what he is. He is, he he's
- 15:05Speaker 6: if you if you rate him, you would rate him
- 15:08Speaker 6: as a bat first catcher, which doesn't exist, right, You're
- 15:15Speaker 6: not going to get a bat first catch. Mike Piazza
- 15:18Speaker 6: was the last real legitimate bat first catcher, right. But
- 15:24Speaker 6: you know that those guys are there for for defense. Uh.
- 15:31Speaker 6: But but his offense was was really what made him,
- 15:36Speaker 6: you know, a really good catcher. You wouldn't say that
- 15:41Speaker 6: the defensive part is what made him a good catcher.
- 15:45Speaker 5: Just scattershooting right here? Would you take a bad catcher
- 15:48Speaker 5: contract from somebody if they would take Christian Walker from you?
- 15:52Speaker 6: No, No, I'm just talking about contract.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 15:56Speaker 5: Somebody that could be that could help you a catcher.
- 15:59Speaker 5: But Sky a bad contract. You don't You don't think
- 16:02Speaker 5: that sounds good.
- 16:03Speaker 6: No, I think Diner is a really good catcher. I
- 16:06Speaker 6: think he's a good No, I'm not. I'm just going
- 16:10Speaker 6: to pay extra money for a backup catcher.
- 16:12Speaker 5: If if you could have them take Christian Walker's contract
- 16:15Speaker 5: away from.
- 16:16Speaker 6: You, nobody's gonna take.
- 16:18Speaker 2: But that's what I'm saying.
- 16:19Speaker 5: I just wonder if there's a bad catcher contract out
- 16:22Speaker 5: there for a guy that could be serviceable catcher, because
- 16:26Speaker 5: I think they're what they're missing from last year. That
- 16:30Speaker 5: second catcher gave them a lot that they that they're
- 16:34Speaker 5: they're gonna miss at times.
- 16:38Speaker 6: Yeah, but keep in mind, Christian Walker is one of
- 16:43Speaker 6: the best defensive first baseman out there. He needs he
- 16:48Speaker 6: needs to hit more. Uh, this prey is give you
- 16:52Speaker 6: enough and can you make for it as a first baseman.
- 16:56Speaker 6: I don't know that that's that's possible. It would be
- 17:00Speaker 6: great if somehow you could you could get first base time.
- 17:09Speaker 6: But yeah, no, I'm not. I'm not investing in a
- 17:13Speaker 6: bad catch because you're you have your starter right, so
- 17:16Speaker 6: I'm not investing in a bad catcher contract, even if
- 17:20Speaker 6: it means I'm getting rid of a bad first baseman contract.
- 17:23Speaker 6: I'd rather have Christian because because Christian Walker is really
- 17:28Speaker 6: good at defense, and he's proven in the past that
- 17:32Speaker 6: he's could be good bad yeah, and is going to
- 17:37Speaker 6: catch if he's healthy. You want him to catch one
- 17:40Speaker 6: hundred and twenty games. Are you going to really take
- 17:43Speaker 6: a bad count contract for a guy who's going to
- 17:45Speaker 6: catch forty games?
- 17:47Speaker 5: That was the number I was thinking, exactly, one hundred
- 17:49Speaker 5: and twenty games.
- 17:52Speaker 6: Yeah, so now I'm not I'm not taking a bad
- 17:55Speaker 6: you know, a bad catcher. And they got that kid.
- 17:58Speaker 5: They was about to ask you just down the road
- 18:02Speaker 5: at Sam Houston, a worn out guy with Arizona Fall League.
- 18:08Speaker 5: But this is a guy that's a plus defensive catcher.
- 18:13Speaker 6: Yeah. I was wondering because I was looking at the
- 18:18Speaker 6: Baseball America rankings, and I was wondering why he fell
- 18:24Speaker 6: so badly because he's, you know, the top the top
- 18:31Speaker 6: Baseball America guys on the Astros, on the Baseball America
- 18:36Speaker 6: prospect list. They're both from last year's draft, right, and
- 18:43Speaker 6: so like.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Had been up there the year before in front of him.
- 18:48Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, and now he's like six or seventh, which
- 18:53Speaker 6: which has me wondering, like what happened? What did he show?
- 18:59Speaker 6: He hasn't been in the minors long enough for for
- 19:04Speaker 6: me to say, oh, you know, like they've given up
- 19:06Speaker 6: on him or whatever. But I'm like, why did he
- 19:08Speaker 6: drop so much?
- 19:10Speaker 7: Right?
- 19:10Speaker 6: You know? And so so I would assume that he's
- 19:15Speaker 6: probably at least a year plus away from from the neighbors.
- 19:21Speaker 5: Okay, where do Cam Smith? Hey, sue Sanchez? Mix in
- 19:27Speaker 5: the outfield overall and and right field with a young
- 19:33Speaker 5: guy and Sanchez who hey, he he can't be as
- 19:39Speaker 5: bad as he was last year after coming over the
- 19:41Speaker 5: trade dead lote. This guy has more pedigree than that.
- 19:44Speaker 6: Yeah, Sanchez has a lot to prove. Sanchez. The benefit
- 19:50Speaker 6: that Sanchez brings to this team is that he's a
- 19:52Speaker 6: left handed bat.
- 19:56Speaker 8: Uh.
- 19:57Speaker 6: They need uh, you know, they need that. They're desperate
- 20:03Speaker 6: fer so he's gonna get some time. Ken athletic. He
- 20:08Speaker 6: you know, he's I think he's your right right fielder.
- 20:13Speaker 6: Zach Cole might be your center fielder. Yeah.
- 20:22Speaker 5: Well, if you're going to take another left hand or
- 20:25Speaker 5: out in, uh, put another left hand out. That's for
- 20:30Speaker 5: Jake Myers batting you know, being backwards and batting right
- 20:35Speaker 5: and throwing left.
- 20:37Speaker 2: That that kind of hurts him, doesn't it.
- 20:40Speaker 6: Yeah, because they need you know, they're so right handed,
- 20:43Speaker 6: heavy and and they need to fix that. So you know,
- 20:48Speaker 6: Zach he bats left, Uh, Zach Desnzo, he's right, Myers,
- 20:58Speaker 6: you know, you know, like you said, that's right and
- 21:04Speaker 6: throws left, which is I don't see. You don't see
- 21:07Speaker 6: many of those.
- 21:10Speaker 2: I remember Joaquin and Andy Haar doing it.
- 21:15Speaker 6: Yeah, and I think I think, I think I misspoke,
- 21:21Speaker 6: But I think I think Jake Myers has to be
- 21:23Speaker 6: your center fielder, right, like right, But he's just none
- 21:28Speaker 6: of those guys have done enough that that I would
- 21:30Speaker 6: automatically say that you're center fielder. So you have all
- 21:33Speaker 6: too they left, uh, Myers and kan Stman, and its
- 21:40Speaker 6: not just you know right, they have a lot of options.
- 21:47Speaker 6: I would. I would make the case that cas Smith
- 21:52Speaker 6: has the higher ceiling of all those young outfielders.
- 21:58Speaker 5: I think he showed that last year. Agree with that whatsoever.
- 22:01Speaker 5: I'll tell you what I noticed last year. There was
- 22:05Speaker 5: there was certain times where Sanchez, I don't the other things,
- 22:11Speaker 5: throwing to the right base, hitting the cutoff, things like
- 22:14Speaker 5: that that I don't really think matter when you're playing.
- 22:19Speaker 2: You know, before you came.
- 22:23Speaker 5: Into Astros and you're just on you know, you're on
- 22:27Speaker 5: a bottom dwelling type team. I don't think those things matter.
- 22:32Speaker 5: But when you're not in Miami anymore, you have to
- 22:35Speaker 5: play the game in a way that the Astros know
- 22:38Speaker 5: what you're going to do when the balls hit to you.
- 22:41Speaker 5: And I thought at certain point in times it was
- 22:44Speaker 5: just this is not the part of my game that
- 22:46Speaker 5: I'm here for.
- 22:49Speaker 6: Yeah, well, you'll have to get better, but I don't
- 22:56Speaker 6: know how much better he can get. And offensively, I
- 23:01Speaker 6: mean his career highest eighteen home runs, his battan average
- 23:08Speaker 6: is very low. He hit you know, two thirty seven
- 23:12Speaker 6: last year, Like, what are we doing here?
- 23:15Speaker 2: Right?
- 23:16Speaker 6: Does that make sense?
- 23:17Speaker 2: Yes?
- 23:18Speaker 6: Or whereas Ken Smith? I mean, God bless him. He's
- 23:23Speaker 6: gonna be twenty two years old next week.
- 23:28Speaker 5: That's hard to believe because I remember he had the
- 23:31Speaker 5: option to go back to Florida State at the College
- 23:34Speaker 5: World Series. Ever talking about, you know, can he get
- 23:38Speaker 5: drafted high enough that he'll that he won't come back
- 23:41Speaker 5: to Florida State as a Yes.
- 23:43Speaker 6: I apologize, I apologize. He's gonna be twenty three next week,
- 23:47Speaker 6: twenty three still very young.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Yeah, but he still had another year that he could
- 23:51Speaker 2: have come back.
- 23:53Speaker 6: Yes, Yeah, he hit two thirty six last year with
- 23:57Speaker 6: nine home runs fifty one RBIs in a developmental year
- 24:03Speaker 6: where he probably should have been at Double A the
- 24:05Speaker 6: whole year. Yeah, the old Astros of five years ago.
- 24:13Speaker 6: He spends the whole year at Double A and gets
- 24:18Speaker 6: promoted at Triple A and and right now we'd be
- 24:21Speaker 6: in spring training talking about how this is a prospect
- 24:25Speaker 6: that has to be on the opening day roster, whereas
- 24:30Speaker 6: last year he took his lumps and he developed in
- 24:32Speaker 6: the majors. Yeah, it's hard to do. It's it's you know.
- 24:39Speaker 6: So I expect big things from him. I like his confidence,
- 24:43Speaker 6: I like like his his professionalism. He never showed defeat,
- 24:54Speaker 6: He never seemed to get down on himself because this
- 24:57Speaker 6: this grind could crush a guy. And I think I
- 25:02Speaker 6: think this year I expect a nice boost from him.
- 25:09Speaker 6: I really do.
- 25:11Speaker 5: All Right, we didn't get to the pitching. We're running
- 25:13Speaker 5: out of time, Josh Hater. I know that some uh
- 25:17Speaker 5: you know, he was trying to work his way back.
- 25:20Speaker 5: What's the latest on Hater.
- 25:23Speaker 6: Well, that was one of the biggest that's the biggest
- 25:25Speaker 6: announcements today from Astro's camp. He has inflammation. I think
- 25:32Speaker 6: bicep inflammation. You have to double check. I'm pretty sure
- 25:35Speaker 6: that's it.
- 25:37Speaker 7: So that.
- 25:40Speaker 6: Yeah, so that's concerning. Uh, but if it's just that,
- 25:46Speaker 6: you just push him back a couple of weeks. But
- 25:49Speaker 6: he's you know, he's back. He'd done his bullpens, he
- 25:52Speaker 6: was fine, He's had his imaging. So that's yeah, that's
- 26:00Speaker 6: that's tough. You need him. The Astros. You talk about
- 26:03Speaker 6: guys you couldn't afford to lose. Losing Hater really torpedoed
- 26:09Speaker 6: the season like so many things. And this is why
- 26:12Speaker 6: I'm optimistic about the Astros. And I'll tell you why
- 26:16Speaker 6: Dana Brown mixed and match that team all the way
- 26:22Speaker 6: to contention in a city that that defense depends, you
- 26:29Speaker 6: know that, like they define excellence now by getting to
- 26:33Speaker 6: the Alcs, Like Astros fans have grown spoiled, and they
- 26:39Speaker 6: they should be spoiled. But last year's team, on paper,
- 26:47Speaker 6: everything that that they suffered, should have been out of
- 26:51Speaker 6: the race by late July artist one, yeah, whereas on
- 27:00Speaker 6: whereas by late July they're making trades because they're trying
- 27:03Speaker 6: to But like Dana Brown figured it out, he figured
- 27:09Speaker 6: he had he had additions that. So I have a
- 27:13Speaker 6: lot of faith that, like if Dana Brown brings in
- 27:17Speaker 6: a guy, he's going to perform. And if if you
- 27:21Speaker 6: think of Cardi getting much of Yorda on albares losing
- 27:27Speaker 6: your two two all stars, they had three All Stars
- 27:31Speaker 6: last year, right.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I lost all three of them.
- 27:36Speaker 6: And Pinya and Pena and they were all lost for
- 27:41Speaker 6: a great period of time. And two of them and
- 27:46Speaker 6: two of them like most of July from July on.
- 27:50Speaker 6: And I'll tell you this, if you're an Astros fan,
- 27:54Speaker 6: the guy that I who I respect the most is
- 27:58Speaker 6: Ezac Prede is because they told that guy that he
- 28:05Speaker 6: was not coming back. I had people close to him
- 28:10Speaker 6: who came up to me and said, hey, you know,
- 28:13Speaker 6: Essex's not playing in the World Baseball Classic next year.
- 28:17Speaker 6: I said, what do you mean? This is like July
- 28:20Speaker 6: because he goes He told us that the doctors told us.
- 28:22Speaker 6: He told him he's done for the year. These are
- 28:27Speaker 6: like MLB players he's close to who I'm close to.
- 28:32Speaker 6: And I went and I talked to Dana Brown. I said, hey, Dan,
- 28:36Speaker 6: I'm not going to write this because I'm not breaking stories.
- 28:38Speaker 6: That's that's not what I do. I'm not the Astros
- 28:39Speaker 6: beat writer anymore. Like that was for fifteen years with
- 28:42Speaker 6: the Chronicle. I said, but hey, he's done, right, And
- 28:46Speaker 6: then Dana was like shocked that I knew that.
- 28:50Speaker 5: You know what this guy did.
- 28:54Speaker 6: He said, I'll decide if I'm done, and that dude
- 28:58Speaker 6: came back, and that showed his team, his teammates, an
- 29:05Speaker 6: Astros fans that he will play hurt and he will
- 29:10Speaker 6: rush to get back. And that's old school Jeff Bagwell,
- 29:14Speaker 6: Craig visual type stuff.
- 29:16Speaker 2: And that's why you don't move him.
- 29:19Speaker 6: No, that's why I wouldn't moved. And I and I
- 29:21Speaker 6: know people, so I know people, and I won't give
- 29:23Speaker 6: you the full gallery report, but from when he came
- 29:28Speaker 6: from Tampa Bay, some of the coaches did s gallery
- 29:31Speaker 6: reports from other coaches, and one coach says, play him
- 29:37Speaker 6: every day, let him drink a six pack after the
- 29:41Speaker 6: game and and and he'll be fine. Like don't don't
- 29:47Speaker 6: talk to him about his weight. That's you know what
- 29:51Speaker 6: he's a he's a ballplayer. He he goes and he
- 29:56Speaker 6: plays and he's very very good. He improved dramatically defensively,
- 30:03Speaker 6: and that's you know, because Tony Perris Chica is a
- 30:07Speaker 6: hell of a infield coach, one of the best in baseball.
- 30:12Speaker 6: And he you know, that whole defense improved, which is
- 30:15Speaker 6: going back to your Christian Walker, the ground ball pitchers
- 30:20Speaker 6: and farmers out here. But you did great infield defense
- 30:25Speaker 6: and when Altuvee was in the outfield, that defense was
- 30:32Speaker 6: really really good. And and that saves you runs, that
- 30:36Speaker 6: wins games.
- 30:39Speaker 5: All right, brother, I you you talked great, a great
- 30:44Speaker 5: deal of Astros right there.
- 30:45Speaker 6: For me, tell me this, what's up with the Aggie
- 30:48Speaker 6: baseball team. How's Niko Partia looking?
- 30:51Speaker 5: They're going to bounce back like the Astros did. They
- 30:53Speaker 5: couldn't take the injuries. That group was injured like the
- 30:56Speaker 5: Astros were. The wrong people were hurt, people you couldn't
- 31:00Speaker 5: do without. You talked about three all stars. You had
- 31:04Speaker 5: three first round draft picks hurt last year for the Astra.
- 31:07Speaker 5: For the Aggies, and they stay healthy, it's going to
- 31:10Speaker 5: be a different year for a and in baseball.
- 31:13Speaker 6: So I don't know how to pronounce the name.
- 31:15Speaker 5: So that's Groove, Grahovic, Cedeo, Cirell and Stewart.
- 31:20Speaker 2: You have to have those guys every day, every day.
- 31:25Speaker 5: Guys on the infield, the outfield, your starting pitcher and
- 31:29Speaker 5: your closer. Sounds familiar, doesn't it.
- 31:32Speaker 6: Who's your third basement?
- 31:34Speaker 5: We will Partita be the Partita is going to be
- 31:36Speaker 5: the third baseman to start. Grahovik's going to go play
- 31:38Speaker 5: first be a team guy and go play first base.
- 31:41Speaker 6: All right. I love Partita. I'm good friends with his dad.
- 31:46Speaker 6: That kid is special, man. That kid is very, very.
- 31:49Speaker 5: Special, and and that's why they're making sure he's in
- 31:51Speaker 5: that opening daylight up on Friday night.
- 31:53Speaker 2: I got to run to break one more thing.
- 31:57Speaker 6: He could have been picked in the first round. They
- 32:00Speaker 6: wanted him, but he chose college. Be well man, Thank
- 32:03Speaker 6: you for the opportunity.
- 32:04Speaker 5: All right, that's a sus ortiz and voice Espanya if
- 32:09Speaker 5: you want to track him down. He does a great

- 36:47Speaker 8: most influential writers or songwriters in the music industry. She
- 36:51Speaker 8: will be an attendance for the July eleventh Galla Oh
- 36:56Speaker 8: I know We're all wondering, yea. Her fell class includes
- 37:01Speaker 8: Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley from Kiss, Alanis Morsette, Kenny Loggins,
- 37:06Speaker 8: Christopher Tricky Stewart, Terry Britton and let me see Graham
- 37:11Speaker 8: Lyle and Walter who don't know that last name? Sorry
- 37:15Speaker 8: it starts with an A. If you know, you know great.
- 37:20Speaker 8: To be eligible for the Induction of Songwriters, first commercially
- 37:24Speaker 8: released song must be at least twenty years old, so
- 37:28Speaker 8: a swift debut single Tim McGraw arrived in June two
- 37:31Speaker 8: thousand and six, just clearing the threshold for the twenty
- 37:34Speaker 8: twenty sixth class class. She's also the first artist to
- 37:39Speaker 8: be inducted after winning the Hail David Starlight Award in

- 37:50Speaker 8: to have ever appear on the ballot. The President and
- 37:54Speaker 8: CEO of the Songwriters Hall of Fame did tell you
- 37:57Speaker 8: the oldest in November. Each an including I didn't get
- 38:01Speaker 8: to vote on each nominating including Swift, must have proved
- 38:07Speaker 8: their nomination. It's like five representative songs in a photo
- 38:11Speaker 8: before the bell voting you did to roughly eighteen hundred
- 38:15Speaker 8: and fifties voting members, which Chip Howard, is not a
- 38:19Speaker 8: power of apparently a body made of music industry professionalsanship
- 38:24Speaker 8: it's probably because you're not a music.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Well pretty much, yes, pretty much. I play as much
- 38:34Speaker 1: music as anyone.
- 38:36Speaker 8: That's true.
- 38:38Speaker 1: I mean, however, there's no howevers. There's no howevers I
- 38:43Speaker 1: should be voting in this deal.
- 38:46Speaker 8: I know, Well, you can vote in your brain if
- 38:49Speaker 8: that makes you feel.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Okay, Well, I've voted no, so I don't know how
- 38:53Speaker 1: that works.
- 38:54Speaker 8: But ah well, too bad.
- 38:56Speaker 9: Maybe I cast a deciding vote.
- 38:59Speaker 8: No, no, I say yes, why not?
- 39:05Speaker 9: Well, you don't have a vote, and eventually you don't
- 39:08Speaker 9: get a vote.
- 39:09Speaker 12: Chip.
- 39:09Speaker 8: If you can vote in your brain, I can vote
- 39:11Speaker 8: in my brain too.
- 39:12Speaker 9: Okay, Well I'm not voting in my brain.
- 39:15Speaker 1: I'm voting online with these weasels.
- 39:19Speaker 8: Oh okay, I don't have enough energy to care about that.
- 39:24Speaker 8: But in my brain, yes, I like it.
- 39:31Speaker 1: I don't really have enough energy to care about anything
- 39:34Speaker 1: at this point, so that's probably an issue.
- 39:36Speaker 8: Real. Yeah, I'm just thinking about how I have to
- 39:39Speaker 8: go to the store before.
- 39:40Speaker 1: This week You and night, you and two hundred thousand
- 39:45Speaker 1: other people, so thank you.
- 39:49Speaker 9: Last weekend.
- 39:51Speaker 1: Last weekend, last Saturday was pretty nasty, you know, it's
- 39:54Speaker 1: pretty cold and nasty. And Dusty goes to the store
- 39:58Speaker 1: on Friday and it is packed and he's looking.
- 40:03Speaker 9: Around some guy.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Some guy's buying like, you know, pounds and pounds of
- 40:08Speaker 1: just meat, and he's wondering It's It's not like this
- 40:17Speaker 1: weekend the worst blizzard in the history of mankind. It
- 40:22Speaker 1: was just gonna be cold, and people are in there
- 40:24Speaker 1: just stocking up one stuff. And I'm going, why are
- 40:27Speaker 1: people stocking up one stuff when the temperatures dropping twenty degrees?
- 40:32Speaker 1: So you can imagine what the stores are gonna be
- 40:35Speaker 1: like the next two days.
- 40:38Speaker 8: I think we're all secretly traumatized from COVID times where
- 40:42Speaker 8: toilet paper was not sustened.
- 40:46Speaker 9: You know, it's gonna be seventeen degrees.
- 40:48Speaker 1: Let's buy seventeen plats of toilet paper.
- 40:54Speaker 9: I'll be as if if you wrap it all around you,
- 40:59Speaker 9: you're gonna be warm.
- 41:02Speaker 8: Make yourself a toilet paper for people. I know, guys,
- 41:08Speaker 8: It's okay, we live in Texas. I'm sure next week.
- 41:13Speaker 9: This was Do you do you have any more Taylor
- 41:17Speaker 9: Swift news or can we move on?
- 41:20Speaker 8: Well, let me say kind of, I kind of have
- 41:23Speaker 8: a little bit. I don't know if I mean, I
- 41:25Speaker 8: know what this story? Yes, okay, okay, So so we're
- 41:29Speaker 8: gonna it's kind of a crossover because Blake Lively, as
- 41:32Speaker 8: we know, we don't know if they are friends now,
- 41:35Speaker 8: but at one point very good friends. And she's got
- 41:37Speaker 8: a lot of legal is she's going on with Justin Baldini,
- 41:41Speaker 8: and among a bunch of emails, text and depositions that
- 41:45Speaker 8: were unsealed in the Blake Lively Justin Bonnini illegal case
- 41:50Speaker 8: is an exchange that allctrically shows Taylor Swift signing with
- 41:53Speaker 8: Lively against it with US director. So, I mean, of course,
- 41:58Speaker 8: why wouldn't she that's her friend, Like you know, at
- 42:01Speaker 8: the end of the day, usually you have your friends back.
- 42:03Speaker 8: Within the hundreds of exhibits that were unsealed January twentieth,
- 42:06Speaker 8: So yesterday is an alleged December twenty twenty four text
- 42:10Speaker 8: exchange between Lively and Swift and of filing that was obtained,
- 42:16Speaker 8: though the last name for Swiss contact is reducted. Lively's
- 42:21Speaker 8: legal team identified the singer by name in a court
- 42:23Speaker 8: filing addressing the text in response to the contents of
- 42:27Speaker 8: Baldini's legal teams November motion for summary judgment so previously
- 42:34Speaker 8: this was filed by his team. On December fifth, twenty
- 42:37Speaker 8: twenty four, Swift appeared to send Lively a screenshot of
- 42:39Speaker 8: People magazines reporting on Baldini speaking out against the trauma
- 42:43Speaker 8: from a prior relationship, along with the message, I think
- 42:46Speaker 8: this bleep knows something is coming because he's gotten out
- 42:51Speaker 8: his tiny violince.
- 42:54Speaker 6: Uh oh.
- 42:54Speaker 8: On December twenty fourth, twenty first, Lively was the victim

- 43:13Speaker 8: Lively does seem to respond it rings different when he
- 43:16Speaker 8: doesn't end the story by saying, did I always listen
- 43:19Speaker 8: when they said no? No, like he did with me.
- 43:23Speaker 8: But that must not have tested well in the focus group.
- 43:28Speaker 8: So the conversation taking place in the days leading up
- 43:31Speaker 8: to Swift's final eras tour show appeared to start with
- 43:34Speaker 8: Lively checking in with Swift, asking is everything okay? She
- 43:38Speaker 8: felt like a bad friend lately. Taylor seems to respond
- 43:41Speaker 8: with Lively like was not wrong to feel things were off.
- 43:44Speaker 8: I feel distant from you, even more than when we
- 43:48Speaker 8: are geographically aligned with the message, says Lively's recent communications
- 43:52Speaker 8: felt like I was reading a mass corporate email sent
- 43:55Speaker 8: to two hundred employees.
- 43:59Speaker 9: Taylor has lots of beefs. I will say that she
- 44:03Speaker 9: gets into a lot of beefs.
- 44:05Speaker 8: She does. Yeah, thank god she's not a vegetarian. The

- 48:44Speaker 1: Yes, I will have completed all the all the goals.
- 48:50Speaker 8: Yeah, we'll give you your own personalized, our own version
- 48:54Speaker 8: of the GOT. Is that what it's called?
- 48:56Speaker 13: Oh?
- 48:56Speaker 8: He got?
- 48:58Speaker 9: I think I could eat GOT?
- 49:00Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 49:01Speaker 6: Why not?
- 49:02Speaker 9: I'm pretty sure I could. Yeah.
- 49:04Speaker 8: I have faith in you.
- 49:05Speaker 1: Okay, we've had we've had Taylor Swift news. We need
- 49:11Speaker 1: we need some royal news to kind of blend in.
- 49:15Speaker 8: Well, you know, I got it. That's so of course
- 49:18Speaker 8: I've got it. Prince Harry says he's always had an
- 49:22Speaker 8: uneasy relationship with the media, but his position in the
- 49:25Speaker 8: Royal family stopped him from speaking out, which isn't a
- 49:29Speaker 8: problem anymore. He is in London this week as the
- 49:32Speaker 8: trial is underway the Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the
- 49:36Speaker 8: UK outlets Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday, who are
- 49:39Speaker 8: accused of using unlawful methods to gather information. Harry is
- 49:43Speaker 8: one of several high profile claimants claimants and then the case,
- 49:50Speaker 8: along with Elton John, Elizabeth Early, and Jude Law's ex
- 49:53Speaker 8: wife Sadie Frost. Uh Prince Harry took to the stand
- 49:57Speaker 8: to give testimony to Day and witness and his witness
- 50:02Speaker 8: statements to detailing why he didn't speak up sooner about
- 50:06Speaker 8: the invasive stories about him and his relationships and a
- 50:09Speaker 8: witness statement, Harry cites the death of his mother, Princess
- 50:12Speaker 8: Diana as the beginning of his discomfort with the media, which, yeah, honest,
- 50:18Speaker 8: that is valid, you know. However, as a member of
- 50:23Speaker 8: the institution, referring to the British Royal Family, he had
- 50:27Speaker 8: to follow their policy of never complain, never explain. There
- 50:32Speaker 8: was no alternative. I was conditioned to accept it. Thought
- 50:37Speaker 8: of the origin of the sorry nineteenth century British Prime
- 50:41Speaker 8: Minister Benjamarin Disraeli Israeli Disraeli. Gosh, I'm so close. The
- 50:47Speaker 8: never complain, never explained motto was adopted by Queen Elizabeth's
- 50:50Speaker 8: late mother, the Queen Mothers of the Family. Queen Mom, Yes,
- 50:57Speaker 8: that makes more sense, followed suit when it came to
- 51:01Speaker 8: contentious public matters.
- 51:02Speaker 9: I hope, I hope Harry wins this thing, you know, yeah, I.
- 51:07Speaker 8: Mean, I look, it's not just him completing obviously, there's
- 51:11Speaker 8: other people who are very notable people, you know.
- 51:13Speaker 1: I mean, the British Shapers have a long, sordid history,
- 51:18Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying.
- 51:19Speaker 8: Well, they use very colorful language, very very colorful.
- 51:22Speaker 9: So I love this story.
- 51:26Speaker 8: Okay.
- 51:26Speaker 1: The Simpsons Bort license plate creates toll troubles. A Massachusetts
- 51:34Speaker 1: driver is facing unexpected toll charges due to her Simpson's
- 51:40Speaker 1: themed license.
- 51:42Speaker 9: Plate reading Bort.
- 51:45Speaker 1: The plate, a nod to a joke from a nineteen
- 51:48Speaker 1: ninety four episode, has led to confusion and frustration, as
- 51:53Speaker 1: Katie Eunice has been built for tolls intended for other vehicles.
- 51:59Speaker 1: The situation stems from the existence of counterfeit bort plates,
- 52:04Speaker 1: which are often purchased online or at Universal Studios in Orlando.
- 52:10Speaker 1: The fake plates are similar enough to Katie's that automated
- 52:16Speaker 1: toll cameras are misidentifying her car, resulting in multiple toll charges.
- 52:23Speaker 1: In a recent interview, Katie expressed her frustration urging other
- 52:28Speaker 1: drivers to stop using her plate. Well, I mean it
- 52:32Speaker 1: is for sale everywhere, she mentioned. I'm continuing to get
- 52:37Speaker 1: notices and I don't know when the bills will stop.
- 52:41Speaker 1: It's really funny, but it's causing me a bit of
- 52:44Speaker 1: a headache.
- 52:46Speaker 9: Katie's love for.
- 52:47Speaker 1: The Simpsons includes an arm tattoo.
- 52:51Speaker 9: I like this girl. I need to reach out to her.
- 52:54Speaker 1: I mean she has a Simpsons tattoo and a Boort
- 52:58Speaker 1: license plate.
- 53:00Speaker 9: I'm all in on that, all in.
- 53:03Speaker 6: That's pretty cool.
- 53:04Speaker 1: Yeah, that is pretty cool. Apparently it's causing some issues.
- 53:10Speaker 8: Yeah, So it's cool when it's not yours.
- 53:12Speaker 9: Yeah, when it's not you, we'll admire it.
- 53:15Speaker 8: Yeah. Oh man, Uh, well, you know, we haven't talked
- 53:21Speaker 8: about Lizzo in a hot minute. She kind of disappeared
- 53:25Speaker 8: for a minute.
- 53:26Speaker 9: But I think she's been losing weight.
- 53:29Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean that is the trend nowadays, isn't it. Yeah,
- 53:33Speaker 8: Litto looked like adult up Barbie Barbie at the Los
- 53:37Speaker 8: Angeles premiere of Pis Hilton's Infinite Icon of Visual Memoir
- 53:42Speaker 8: documentary documentary, which was this past Tuesday Nights yesterday, showing
- 53:47Speaker 8: off her traumatic weight losses. Yeah, I told you you
- 53:51Speaker 8: were right. The singer is radiating confidence in a curb
- 53:55Speaker 8: hugging light pink mini dress paired with the dazzled heels.
- 53:59Speaker 8: She elevated the pretty and pink look with a pair
- 54:02Speaker 8: of sparkling hooperings that brightens up that pink carpet. Thanks
- 54:05Speaker 8: to her half up, half down hairstyle, Lizzo like a
- 54:10Speaker 8: dolled up Barby.
- 54:12Speaker 9: Is there anything she can't do?
- 54:15Speaker 8: I know, I guess not.
- 54:18Speaker 9: I need.
- 54:19Speaker 1: I want to get this in before we get to birthdays,
