- 0:03Speaker 1: Morning on Mix 102.9.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Brought to you by Mint Dentistry.
- 0:21Speaker 3: I felt like I was just getting some good dirty
- 0:23Speaker 3: little secrets on the Corny Dog Walk, which was so good,
- 0:27Speaker 3: by the way. Thank you to everybody who showed up.
- 0:29Speaker 3: We walked to the fair.
- 0:30Speaker 2: We made it. In case you were wondering, Candace and
- 0:33Speaker 2: I made it. Pooh did 9.1. Yeah, that's good. Better
- 0:36Speaker 2: than last year. More miles than last year. Yeah. Almost
- 0:39Speaker 2: a full mile more. Yeah, I was trying. I don't know.
- 0:42Speaker 2: It was a little warmer this year.
- 0:44Speaker 1: It was.
- 0:44Speaker 3: It was.
- 0:45Speaker 2: It was super hot.
- 0:46Speaker 3: So if you don't know, we walk from the station
- 0:48Speaker 3: here in North Dallas to the State Fair of Texas.
- 0:50Speaker 3: It's about 15 miles, and it took us... people wondering
- 0:53Speaker 3: we left at about 10 30 yeah and got there
- 0:55Speaker 3: at about what time candace between 6 6 30 and
- 0:58Speaker 3: time for opening ceremony which was awesome yeah if you
- 1:02Speaker 3: have i know you've been to the fair but if
- 1:03Speaker 3: you have never been to the opening ceremony of the
- 1:06Speaker 3: fair i didn't realize how incredible it was so thank
- 1:09Speaker 3: you because suzy who works for the fair she was
- 1:11Speaker 3: like well you guys want to go to the opening
- 1:12Speaker 3: ceremony and i was like yes and Anna took us in,
- 1:15Speaker 3: and we went, and we watched the flyover, and there
- 1:19Speaker 3: was a helicopter there. Yeah. It was very, very cool.
- 1:22Speaker 3: And we got to present them with a check. Thanks
- 1:24Speaker 3: to you for buying the Corny Dog Walk shirts for $ 2, 000.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Amazing. So they were very happy, and next year we're
- 1:31Speaker 2: going to triple that.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Good.
- 1:32Speaker 2: And then we're going to quadruple it. Okay. Then we're
- 1:35Speaker 2: going to, what's the next one? We're going to do
- 1:37Speaker 2: whatever's bigger than that. That's right. That's what we're doing.
- 1:40Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:41Speaker 3: In the meantime, let's do a dirty little secret. If
- 1:43Speaker 3: you've got a confession, bring it on. Anything you want
- 1:45Speaker 3: to confess.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I've never told anyone this. The only person who knows
- 1:49Speaker 1: is the pastor at my church, but for almost 10 years. Oh,
- 1:54Speaker 1: it's a good, it's a good secret.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Good.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I got nervous. Same.
- 1:59Speaker 1: For almost 10 years, I've been anonymously helping families at
- 2:04Speaker 1: my church financially.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Oh, good. Oh, okay. And they don't know that it's you,
- 2:09Speaker 2: so you're like a secret Santa? Exactly.
- 2:11Speaker 1: No one knows, but I've paid electric bills, paid people's rent,
- 2:16Speaker 1: medical bills. I've bought Christmas presents for some unfortunate families
- 2:20Speaker 1: for their children.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Oh, that's good.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Why don't you want them to know it's you, though?
- 2:24Speaker 3: You just don't. I mean, I'm saying that's great, but. Shoot,
- 2:27Speaker 3: I'm behind on my rent.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Here's the part that makes it complicated. You know, I'm
- 2:34Speaker 1: not proud of where the money came from.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Where did it come from?
- 2:38Speaker 1: My ex-husband had been involved in some pretty shady things financially.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I'm not going to mention company names or anything, but
- 2:47Speaker 1: he was working for a company, and he ended up
- 2:50Speaker 1: just with a significant amount of money that definitely was
- 2:53Speaker 1: not a part of his salary.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Ah. Okay.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Yeah. Eventually, he got fired, and there were definitely a
- 3:01Speaker 1: lot of questions about what he was doing, but he
- 3:03Speaker 1: passed away shortly after getting fired.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Oh, God. Hmm. And that's how you got the money.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Yes.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Candace, well, first of all, I'm sorry for your loss.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Candace is like, so that's how you got the money.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I'm just, I'm in shock. Well, obviously, yeah.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:20Speaker 2: So he was doing some questionable things, though.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Questionable things. He did pass away of natural causes.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I just want to be clear.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Some Texas mafia type stuff or anything like that.
- 3:34Speaker 2: You end up with the money.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:36Speaker 2: It must've been a decent amount or did you invest it?
- 3:39Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean, not to get too into
- 3:41Speaker 2: your details.
- 3:42Speaker 1: No, that's, that's exactly what I did. I invested it
- 3:46Speaker 1: and then it just still bothered me. And at the
- 3:48Speaker 1: time when I was married, y'all, I didn't ask questions.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I love the lifestyle. I just assumed he was doing well.
- 3:54Speaker 1: And then when things came to, you know, ahead, I
- 3:56Speaker 1: was like, Oh wow.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:58Speaker 1: This is how we afforded this. This is how we
- 4:00Speaker 1: afforded that.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:03Speaker 1: So after he passed, I became very involved in the church,
- 4:06Speaker 1: and that's when I secretly started giving all the money away.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I've probably given away over $ 100, 000.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Wow. God. Yeah. Well, yeah, good. I guess it's I
- 4:16Speaker 2: was going to say good, but I don't know.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Like, I mean, if you don't if you don't know
- 4:20Speaker 3: where the money came from, I don't know.
- 4:22Speaker 2: It's like you're going to give it back. No, you're
- 4:25Speaker 2: not going away. So you might as well do good
- 4:26Speaker 2: with it.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Right. I don't know how long ago this was, but
- 4:29Speaker 3: it was a long time ago. Probably no matter what
- 4:31Speaker 3: he did, it wouldn't matter at this point anyway.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Right.
- 4:33Speaker 3: So what do you, this is a way to kind
- 4:35Speaker 3: of make you feel better about where the money did
- 4:36Speaker 3: come from.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 4:37Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. It's like, I know giving it away doesn't
- 4:42Speaker 1: magically erase where it came from. And maybe years ago,
- 4:45Speaker 1: it was years ago. I could have did things differently.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I don't know, but it, it just hasn't sat right.
- 4:50Speaker 1: You know, and I've been ashamed and I, Now I'm like,
- 4:53Speaker 1: you know what, let me do something good. I can
- 4:55Speaker 1: help keep families from being evicted. I can help keep
- 4:59Speaker 1: their electricity on. I mean, especially after COVID, there's been
- 5:02Speaker 1: a lot of families really struggling.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:04Speaker 1: So that's my secret, you know. I sit next to
- 5:07Speaker 1: these families every Sunday, and they just don't know it's
- 5:10Speaker 1: little old me. They don't know it's little old Nina,
- 5:13Speaker 1: you know, like helping them all out.
- 5:15Speaker 2: That's a good feeling.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I don't feel– I wouldn't want to know where the
- 5:19Speaker 3: money came from if I had it. I'm like, well,
- 5:21Speaker 3: I don't know where it came from, but I'm going
- 5:23Speaker 3: to give it away. I mean, I think not everybody
- 5:25Speaker 3: who had a lot of money from maybe a questionable
- 5:28Speaker 3: source would give anyway. I don't know if I should
- 5:31Speaker 3: judge you for where it came from. At least you're
- 5:32Speaker 3: giving it away and making it.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Was it your thing? Yeah. Who did this? Peter Pan? Wait,
- 5:37Speaker 2: Robin Hood. Not Peter Pan.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Peter Pan?
- 5:42Speaker 2: I don't watch. I have never watched those.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Peter Pan never grew up.
- 5:45Speaker 2: That's right. Well, he's weird, too, for that. Robin Hood
- 5:49Speaker 2: robbed the rich. To give to the poor. Yeah, thank you.
- 5:53Speaker 2: You're a tinkerbell. Yeah.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Fairy godmother. Well, good for you. Well, thank you for
- 5:58Speaker 2: your secret. That's a good one. I felt I kind
- 6:01Speaker 2: of feel good after that. Yeah, I don't feel bad.
- 6:03Speaker 1: All right.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Well, thank you so much. We appreciate it. And thank
- 6:07Speaker 3: you for taking time to tell us your secret.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Thanks for taking my call, y'all. I listen to you
- 6:11Speaker 1: every day and I just believe and try to do
- 6:14Speaker 1: the best I can now. And, you know, the future
- 6:17Speaker 1: doesn't have to reflect the past.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Well, thank you. You're right.
- 6:20Speaker 3: And we appreciate that. And if you ever want to
- 6:22Speaker 3: help one of our charity causes, feel free with that
- 6:24Speaker 3: stolen money.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I'll take it. I'm just kidding. You know what? No. No,
- 6:29Speaker 2: you know what?
- 6:30Speaker 1: Keep me on the line, y'all. Keep me on the
- 6:31Speaker 1: line and let's talk.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Say less. Nice. I'm not above it.
