- 0:00Luke Chapter 7. Let us pray.
- 0:05We thank you Lord, for this beautiful day.
- 0:07We thank you Lord, for waking us up.
- 0:09Thank you God, that you are so grand and so mighty and so
- 0:13powerful. Lord, we come and worship you in
- 0:16spirit and truth. God, we say come, come soon.
- 0:20Yes, or we wait upon you. Lord, help us to wait.
- 0:24Well, we see that you are dawning on the horizon.
- 0:28We see, Father, the birth pains. We see, God, that this world is
- 0:34heading in the exact direction that you said it would, Lord.
- 0:38And so as we wait, Father, help us to wait well.
- 0:42Help us to be the wise virgins who keep our lamps full.
- 0:46Help us to trim our Wicks, Father.
- 0:49Help us to see that you are coming.
- 0:51Help us to expectantly wait upon you, God.
- 0:56We do wait. And we are asking, God, that
- 1:00today you'll fuel us for the journey, that You'll give us our
- 1:03marching orders. You'll help us to see the world
- 1:06all around us the way that you do.
- 1:08Give us a heart for this generation.
- 1:11Give us a heart, Father, for our families.
- 1:14Give us a heart, Lord, to take the whole word to the whole
- 1:18world. Father, I pray that the gospel
- 1:21will be preached on every continent.
- 1:23I pray for a massive revival. Lord, let it break out.
- 1:27Lord, let us confess our our sins to you.
- 1:31Let us turn from those wicked ways.
- 1:34Help us to receive our healing God and we acknowledge that
- 1:38Jesus is Lord. We acknowledge that Jesus was
- 1:42raised from the dead and ascended to the right hand of
- 1:46you Father. So Lord, it's all about King
- 1:49Jesus. It's always been about King
- 1:51Jesus and the spirit and the bride say, come, yes, Maranatha,
- 1:57come soon. You have come, You are coming,
- 2:00You will come. We love you.
- 2:02Lord Jesus, open our eyes up to your wonderful words today.
- 2:06In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray.
- 2:08Amen. Let's start in verse one.
- 2:14Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the
- 2:19people, he entered into Capernaum.
- 2:23So here we're going to see the centurions servant healed.
- 2:27Verse 2. And a certain centurion servant,
- 2:30who was dear unto him was sick and ready to die.
- 2:34Verse 3 And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the
- 2:38elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal
- 2:42his servant. For and when they came to Jesus,
- 2:46they besought him instantly, saying that he was worthy for
- 2:50whom he should do this. Five, For he loved our nation
- 2:54and he has built us a synagogue. So very interesting points here.
- 2:59This centurion would have been a man who was over at least 100
- 3:03soldiers. We could see that he was a
- 3:06gentile and he had a servant here.
- 3:09But this servant is sick and they're coming and trying to
- 3:13give some kind of pedigree of what the centurion has done or
- 3:18what the servant has done here and telling them, look, he has
- 3:23built us a synagogue. He loves our nation.
- 3:26So very interesting points here. We cannot come to Jesus with our
- 3:31pedigree. All of our righteousness is
- 3:33filthy rags unto him. But look how it moves the heart
- 3:37of Jesus. Look how he doesn't rebuke them
- 3:39for trying to give some kind of pedigree, some kind of resume of
- 3:44all the righteous things that he has done.
- 3:47He sees the faith, friends, and that is the same for us today.
- 3:51He looks at your heart, He looks at your motives, He sees that
- 3:55you are in desperate need of a touch, in desperate need to be
- 4:00healed. Today.
- 4:01Reach out and grab the hem of his garment and be healed. 6 And
- 4:05Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from
- 4:10the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him,
- 4:15Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy that you
- 4:19should enter under my roof. 7 Wherefore neither thought I
- 4:25myself worthy to come unto you. But say a word, and my servant
- 4:30will be healed. So he knows the power of Christ.
- 4:34He knows that He is the anointed.
- 4:36He knows that He is the Son of God.
- 4:38He knows that all power is available to him, and he did not
- 4:45think it was worthy for him to come under his roof. 8 For I
- 4:52also am a man set under authority, having under me
- 4:55soldiers. And I say unto one, Go, and he
- 4:58goes, and another come, and he comes, And to my servant, Do
- 5:02this, and he does it. 9 When Jesus heard these things, he
- 5:07marveled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people
- 5:12that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great
- 5:17faith. No, not in Israel.
- 5:20So we know that this centurion's faith is enough for his servant
- 5:25to be healed. And all he had to do is speak a
- 5:28word. He did not even have to go into
- 5:30the house to heal this man. Jesus's power and Jesus's
- 5:36healing power is available to you today.
- 5:41Friends, this is not just some biblical story way back when.
- 5:45This is for today. This is for now.
- 5:49This is for our our friends. We can receive the healing from
- 5:55on high. Pray for the healing from on
- 5:57high. We should always assume that
- 5:59Jesus desires to heal, but whenever he doesn't, don't try
- 6:04to change your theology. Don't try to switch up how you
- 6:08view God because the healing didn't come.
- 6:11Blessed are those who are not offended by Him. 10 And they
- 6:17that were sent returning to the house, found the servant whole
- 6:21that had been sick. Of course he was whole.
- 6:23Jesus said it, and that settles it, and that's all we need to
- 6:26know. 11 And it came to pass. The day after that he went into
- 6:31a city called Name, and many of his disciples went with him, and
- 6:36much people. 12 Now when he came near to the gate of the city,
- 6:45behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his
- 6:49mother, and she was a widow, and much people of the city was with
- 6:54her. This spelled certain destruction
- 6:58for this lady. She was not only a widow, but
- 7:01she had lost her only son. This was her way of actually
- 7:06escaping poverty, and so the Lord had compassion upon her. 13
- 7:13And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said
- 7:16unto her, Do not weep. 14 And he came, and he touched the buyer,
- 7:21and there those that bore him stood still, And he said, Young
- 7:27man, I say unto you, Arise. 15 And he that was dead set up and
- 7:34began to speak, and he delivered him to his mother.
- 7:38Think about that for a second. Jesus just says a word.
- 7:41And the man sits up and he's made whole and he's well and
- 7:44he's alive. Jesus brought him back from the
- 7:47dead friends. What an amazing story.
- 7:51And he was given to his mother, and he started to speak.
- 7:55You can see it. It's a beautiful picture. 16 And
- 7:59there came fear on all, and they glorified God, saying that a
- 8:04great prophet is risen up among us, and that God has visited his
- 8:08people. 17 And this rumor of him went forth throughout all Judea
- 8:14and throughout all the region round and about. 18 And the
- 8:17disciples of John showed him of all these things.
- 8:22So here you can see that it's stirring in the city and is
- 8:27stirring in the cities abroad, that a great prophet has come on
- 8:31the scene and that God has visited them.
- 8:34But it's much more than a prophet, friends.
- 8:37They were visited by the Son of God.
- 8:40They had God in their midst, friends in human form, and the
- 8:46words of Christ mirror and mimic the heart of God.
- 8:50And we need to know that all of His words, every single one of
- 8:55them, hold paramount value for your life and for this time and
- 9:00for such a time as this, and for all of creation and for every
- 9:06land and every people group and every language.
- 9:09The words of Christ are paramount.
- 9:12Everything hangs in the balance on the words of Christ.
- 9:16The words of Christ are the words of God Almighty.
- 9:20And we can see here that what He is saying is not just a great
- 9:25prophet, and it is not just that God has visited the city, but
- 9:29God is with them. Emmanuel 19 And John calling
- 9:38unto him, two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Are
- 9:43you he that should come? Or look we for another look at
- 9:49John. He, John is in prison and John
- 9:52must have been in this moment very discouraged because Jesus
- 9:57Christ has all authority. Jesus Christ has all power and
- 10:01John is still locked up in the prison.
- 10:06And John sent his disciples to ask Jesus if he was the one.
- 10:12Now you have to understand, John was the forerunner his whole
- 10:16life. He was a Nazarite his whole
- 10:19life. The purpose of his whole life,
- 10:22from Gabriel visiting Zechariah in the temple, his whole life
- 10:28was to tell people of the Messiah arriving on the scene.
- 10:34But look at how in this moment he was discouraged.
- 10:38Why? Because Jesus was not behaving
- 10:42in the way that he needed him to.
- 10:44And we would do well, friends, to remember this moment in the
- 10:51context of the Bible is that sometimes Jesus does not behave
- 10:57in the way that we want him to or need him to.
- 11:04And we lose heart and we turn back and we tuck tail and we go
- 11:09back to what we were doing prior.
- 11:11We go back to our professions prior.
- 11:14We go back to our vomit friends. And here John is very
- 11:20discouraged because Jesus has the ability to break him out, to
- 11:25lower him in the basket. Jesus has the ability to rock
- 11:29the chains off of him and the stalks off of him and rock the
- 11:35prison doors open and let him walk out as a free man.
- 11:39It's easy for Jesus and he's coming back with A2 edged sword
- 11:44out of his mouth. It's easy.
- 11:46Just the breath of his mouth knocks all of the soldiers
- 11:49backwards. It's easy for him, friends.
- 11:52Everything is easy for him, friends.
- 11:54But there is this big gigantic plan, and his ways are not our
- 11:59ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts, and He does not
- 12:03operate on the human level like you and I do.
- 12:09He is not just a moralistic God that you approach and a genie in
- 12:14the bottle that you rub the right way and he does whatever
- 12:18it is. It doesn't work that way,
- 12:20friends. There is an infinite plan that's
- 12:22going on all around you. And sometimes he leaves you in
- 12:27that sickness. He leaves you in that divorce,
- 12:30He leaves you in in that court case, He leaves you in the
- 12:35failing health, He leaves you in the job loss.
- 12:38He leaves you with the wayward child.
- 12:41There is a grand plan going on all around us and we would do
- 12:45well to tap into the power source and know that we have
- 12:48prayed the paint off the wall for something to happen.
- 12:51But when it does not happen, do not be offended by him. 20 When
- 13:01the men were come unto him, they said, John the Baptist has sent
- 13:06us unto you, saying, Are you he that should come, or should we
- 13:10look for another? Here it is again, Are you he
- 13:14that should come, or look we for another?
- 13:18Are you he that should come, or should we look for another?
- 13:22There is no salvation apart from Jesus Christ.
- 13:26There is no peace apart from Jesus Christ.
- 13:30Friends, He is the Way, the Truth and the life, and no one
- 13:37comes unto the Father except through Him.
- 13:39He is not one of many ways. Friends, He is the Way.
- 13:44We should not look for another way.
- 13:47We should not look for more peace apart from God, other than
- 13:53Jesus Christ. He is our all sufficient
- 13:57sacrifice. He is the atonement for our
- 14:00sins. Friends, we should not look for
- 14:03another. 21 And in that same hour he cured many of their
- 14:08infirmities, plagues, evil spirits, and unto them that were
- 14:13blind he gave sight. And Jesus answered and said unto
- 14:20them, Go your way. Tell John what things you have
- 14:23seen and heard, how the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers
- 14:28are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and to the poor
- 14:33the gospel is preached. So we know that all the way back
- 14:38in the Old Testament it was proclaimed through the prophets
- 14:42that this is what the Messiah would do, is preach to the poor.
- 14:4723 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
- 14:52That's the key verse here, friends, you need to memorize
- 14:55that. Blessed is he that is not
- 14:57offended by Jesus Christ. 24 And when the messengers of John were
- 15:03departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John.
- 15:07What did you go out into the wilderness to see?
- 15:10A Reed shaken by the wind? We know that we do not need to
- 15:13be shaken by every single wave and wind that blows through.
- 15:18We need to be set on the solid rock.
- 15:21We need to be set on the firm foundation.
- 15:24We need to have our life built upon Jesus Christ and the gospel
- 15:31of Jesus Christ, and when all of the things that are going on in
- 15:35the world come about, they will not shake us like a Reed in the
- 15:39wind. 25 And what went you out to see a man clothed and soft
- 15:44clothing? Behold, they which are
- 15:48gorgeously apparelled and live delicately, are in King's
- 15:53courts. That's not our life here on this
- 15:55earth. We are bound for that.
- 15:58We are going towards that great city, friends, but do not be
- 16:02surprised in this life if you have hardship. 26 But what did
- 16:08you go out to see? A prophet?
- 16:10Yes, I say unto you, much more than a prophet, This is he of
- 16:16whom it is written. Behold, I send my messenger
- 16:20before your face, which shall prepare the way before you. 28
- 16:24For I say unto you, among those that are born of women, there is
- 16:28not a greater prophet than John the Baptist, but he that is
- 16:32least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he.
- 16:36Did you hear that? Did you you catch that?
- 16:38Did you latch on to that? All of the prophets of old long
- 16:43to see this day because you and I house the Holy Spirit.
- 16:48You and I are indwelled by the Holy Spirit.
- 16:50Friends, don't miss it. You have discernment.
- 16:54You have God Almighty living inside of you and there is more
- 16:58power in one Christian than all the armies and all of the world.
- 17:02Friends, don't miss it. Here you can see Jesus saying
- 17:07he's going to send us a helper and we will do greater things
- 17:11than what he did. Friends, don't miss it. 29 And
- 17:16all the people that hurt him and the publicans justified God
- 17:20being baptized with the baptism of John.
- 17:23Praise God, and we know that Jesus came to baptize us with
- 17:27fire. 30 But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel
- 17:33of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.
- 17:38So here we go. We can see that by your words
- 17:41you are justified, and by your words you are condemned.
- 17:44And here these lawyers and publicans, these Pharisees, when
- 17:50they rejected God, this is their chains that they're wrapping
- 17:56around themselves. You can see that they were
- 17:59hostile. 31 And the Lord said, How shall I liken the men of
- 18:06this generation? And to what are they like?
- 18:1032 They're like children sitting in the marketplace, and they're
- 18:14calling 1 to another and saying, We've piped unto you, and you
- 18:18have not danced, we have mourned to you, and you have not wept.
- 18:23They're saying it doesn't matter how he comes, they're going to
- 18:27reject him. Whether he came mournfully or
- 18:30whether he came rejoicing, whether he came fasting or
- 18:34whether he came eating, whether he came drinking or whether he
- 18:39came as a Nazarite. Either way they rejected him,
- 18:43and it was to their own demise. 33 For John the Baptist came,
- 18:47neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, he
- 18:51has a devil. 34 The Son of Man has come eating and drinking,
- 18:56and you say, Behold, A gluttonous man and a wine
- 18:59bibber, a friend of publicans and sinners praise God,
- 19:04Hallelujah. He's a friend of publicans and
- 19:06sinners praise God, Hallelujah. That's the only way we're going
- 19:09to make it there. He loves you, friend, but he
- 19:12loves you enough not to leave you in that sin. 35 But wisdom
- 19:18is justified of all her children, so we know that we
- 19:24will naturally make disciples as we move through this life, and
- 19:28as we are connected to him, the discipleship cycle will continue
- 19:34on friends. 36 And one of the Pharisees desired him, that he
- 19:40would eat with him, and he went into the Pharisees house and sat
- 19:44down to meet. 37 And behold, a woman in the city, which was a
- 19:49Sinner, when she he knew that Jesus sat at me in the Pharisees
- 19:54house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, 38 and stood at his
- 19:59feet behind him, weeping, and began to wash his feet with
- 20:03tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and
- 20:06kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
- 20:10So we know that this was not Mary of Bethany.
- 20:15We know that that was for his. Burial that was for the
- 20:22anointing of him right before he went to the cross.
- 20:26Here is a separate account. This is a very sinful woman in
- 20:31the House of a Pharisee and we know that the story right before
- 20:38the cross of Christ is Mary of Bethany and she was in the
- 20:42lepers house and we know that that was getting Jesus ready.
- 20:46But this is a separate account and look at how how they're very
- 20:49similar in their alabaster jar. And so this is where we need to
- 20:57make sure that we understand that this is not the same story.
- 21:0239 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spoke
- 21:08within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would
- 21:12have known who and what manner of woman this is that touched
- 21:15him, for she's a Sinner. Praise God, Look how close Jesus
- 21:20lets her get to him. And he does not rebuke her.
- 21:23But who does he rebuke? He rebukes this Pharisee.
- 21:27Why? 40 And Jesus answered and said
- 21:31unto him, Simon, I have something to say to you.
- 21:35And he said, Masters say on. 41 There was a certain creditor
- 21:39which had two debtors, the one owed 500 pence and the other 50
- 21:45And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them
- 21:49both. Tell me, therefore, which of
- 21:51them will love him most? Simon answered and said, I
- 21:54suppose he to whom that has been forgiven the most.
- 21:59And he said unto him, you have judged rightly.
- 22:01Just remember friends, we have been forgiven the most.
- 22:05All of our righteousness is filthy rags.
- 22:07You cannot behave your way into heaven.
- 22:10You need to understand the debt that you have owed.
- 22:14You need to understand the depravity that you came from.
- 22:18None of us deserve heaven, we all deserve hell, and if it was
- 22:23not for the blood of Jesus Christ being spilled on Calvary,
- 22:27all of us would have to go there.
- 22:29We've all been forgiven the most, and if you think that your
- 22:33righteousness is enough to get you there, you're sadly
- 22:36mistaken. 44 And he turned to the woman and said, See you this
- 22:43woman. I entered into your house, and
- 22:46you gave me no water for my feet, but she has washed my feet
- 22:51with her tears and wiped them with the hairs of her head. 45
- 22:56You gave me no kiss, but this woman, since the time I came in,
- 23:00has not ceased to kiss my feet. 46 My head with oil you did not
- 23:07anoint, But this woman has anointed my feet with ointment.
- 23:1247 Why, I say unto you, her sins, which are many, are
- 23:20forgiven, For she has loved much.
- 23:23But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.
- 23:30Those that have been forgiven of much love much, and those that
- 23:33have been forgiven of little, love little.
- 23:35It's a very simple equation, friends.
- 23:40For some of us who understand the depths of our depravity, we
- 23:46cannot help but to love God and love Christ to the utmost.
- 23:52Every minute of every day of every second, sold out to the
- 23:56King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
- 23:58But there are many who do not feel that their sins were that
- 24:02much. There are many who think that
- 24:05they are pretty good people in comparison to all those around,
- 24:09and they do not see that they are naked, they do not see that
- 24:13they are blind. They do not see that their
- 24:15righteousness is nothing in comparison to the glory of God
- 24:20Almighty. And we would do well, friends,
- 24:22to understand that all of us deserve hell. 48 And he said
- 24:29unto her, Your sins are forgiven. 49 And they that sat
- 24:36at me with him began to say with them themselves, Who is this
- 24:41that forgives sins also? They miss the whole point.
- 24:44This is God Almighty and He is able to forgive our sins and it
- 24:50is only through Jesus that we will enter in friends.
- 24:55He is the narrow way. He is the straight gate and his
- 24:58sheep hear his voice and they come in.
- 25:01We'll end on 50. And he said to the woman, your
- 25:05faith has saved you, go in peace.
- 25:11Your faith has saved you go in peace.
- 25:16What beautiful words coming from our Savior.
- 25:20Increase your faith today, friends.
- 25:22Faith is the currency that we operate out of.
- 25:26It is not the lust of the eyes and the lust of the flesh.
- 25:33It is not the pride of life. We need to stiff arm the way
- 25:38that this world works. We need to stiff arm all the
- 25:43things that keep coming at us relentlessly and we need to
- 25:47increase our faith today, friends, increase the way that
- 25:52you see the Lord and your dependency upon Him.
- 25:56That is how we are going to make it there.
- 26:00There are many who think that they're going to be there and
- 26:07they're going to say Lord, Lord, and He's going to say depart
- 26:10from me. We need to make sure, and we
- 26:14need to know that we know that we know that we know that we
- 26:17know that we know that Jesus is Lord, that Jesus is our
- 26:26everything. And we do not depend on self.
- 26:30We do not depend on money. We do not depend on our own
- 26:35abilities. We do not depend on this world.
- 26:41We are sold out to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, and
- 26:46he will lead us home and our faith will save us, our faith in
- 26:51Jesus Christ. Hope you've been blessed by this
- 26:55chapter. I know I sure have many times
