- 0:01Speaker 1: Bailey Ober throws a maddox. Ryan Jeffers hits a homer.
- 0:04Speaker 1: The Twins win their third straight game. Hello, welcome and
- 0:08Speaker 1: bien venios Twins Cities Territory. I'm Zach Pierce of the
- 0:13Speaker 1: Athletic with Dan Hayes, the Athletics Minnesota Twins beat Writer,
- 0:16Speaker 1: and we're joined today as always by Tyler Duffy, longtime
- 0:19Speaker 1: Major leaguer and former Minnesota Twin, who is up to
- 0:22Speaker 1: something different today. He's in the back of a car. Tyler,
- 0:25Speaker 1: tell our loyal listeners, what's going on with you.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm in Marita, Mexico right now. I'm going to
- 0:32Speaker 2: join the Leonistate Yucatan, try my hand it some pitching
- 0:37Speaker 2: for a minute and see if some things work out.
- 0:40Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 0:42Speaker 3: We're cabinet and cabinet and you know, flying by the seat.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Of our pants on your way to practice right now,
- 0:47Speaker 1: is that correct? Yeah?
- 0:50Speaker 3: Headed to the stadium. You know.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I joke with everybody how fast baseball is, you know,
- 0:54Speaker 2: and you get a call on a Monday and they say, hey,
- 0:56Speaker 2: you want to pitch on Thursday and kind of just go.
- 0:59Speaker 2: So it's you know, things happen quick, and uh, you know,
- 1:02Speaker 2: we'll see where we end up.
- 1:04Speaker 4: Hey, duff, how far are you built up? This is
- 1:06Speaker 4: a spring training question. How how many pitches are you
- 1:08Speaker 4: good for?
- 1:09Speaker 5: Right now?
- 1:10Speaker 2: So I've been ripping like sixty pitch bullpens, which anyone
- 1:13Speaker 2: who's ever done that is not the funnest thing to do.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:16Speaker 2: You know, we had some hitters for a while, and
- 1:19Speaker 2: you face the same three guys for like a month
- 1:21Speaker 2: and you can't get anybody out anymore or anything, And
- 1:24Speaker 2: so it'll be good to get some some spikes on
- 1:27Speaker 2: and the turf and uh you'll see some real hitters
- 1:29Speaker 2: have some energy and you know, all that good stuff.
- 1:32Speaker 3: So we'll see. I'm just saying, I gotta survive the
- 1:34Speaker 3: first inning. That'll be the hardest part.
- 1:37Speaker 1: And you're starting tomorrow? Is that right Thursday?
- 1:39Speaker 3: I think?
- 1:40Speaker 2: Yeah, the plan was tomorrow, but you know, as y'all
- 1:42Speaker 2: well know, things can change in a heartbeat. So headed
- 1:45Speaker 2: the stadium, get a little, get a little work in,
- 1:47Speaker 2: and get hydrated. It's nice and toasty down here, so uh,
- 1:51Speaker 2: you know, it's it's just a little South Texas weather.
- 1:53Speaker 3: What it really is?
- 1:55Speaker 1: How does this work? Is it a contract situation, a
- 1:57Speaker 1: certain timeframe or open ended.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's basically show up and play. You know,
- 2:03Speaker 2: I camped this league a lot too. Uh if you
- 2:07Speaker 2: combined college and major league baseball together, because you can
- 2:11Speaker 2: get traded left and right, and every game matters exponentially
- 2:15Speaker 2: more than a major.
- 2:16Speaker 3: League baseball game. So it's just, uh, it's do or die.
- 2:19Speaker 4: You know.
- 2:20Speaker 2: We're I think they're like three weeks in down here,
- 2:22Speaker 2: and managers and GM's are already fired and getting rehired.
- 2:25Speaker 2: It's uh, it's the wild West. It's fun if you
- 2:29Speaker 2: like playing baseball.
- 2:29Speaker 4: It's a good place that is so crazy you got
- 2:32Speaker 4: to call them Monday and starting on Thursday.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Yeah, lockodlow.
- 2:37Speaker 1: All right, well, we better let you get ready for that, Tyler.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Thank you for hopping on on us what you're doing.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Tyler still has to be joining the podcast obviously, has
- 2:46Speaker 1: to get his life figured out down there, So Dan
- 2:48Speaker 1: and I are going to take the rest of the show.
- 2:50Speaker 1: We'll let Tyler get ready for tomorrow start, but we're
- 2:52Speaker 1: definitely gonna be following that very closely, and we'll have
- 2:54Speaker 1: a segment every show.
- 2:57Speaker 3: I'll try and get one and over this week.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Nice, all right, Tyler, best look to you and we'll
- 3:03Speaker 1: talk to you soon.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Asti Fronto.
- 3:07Speaker 1: If you like what you hear here on Twin Cities Territory,
- 3:10Speaker 1: please we would love it if you would subscribe. We're
- 3:13Speaker 1: on our way to five hundred subscribers, hoping to get
- 3:16Speaker 1: there as soon as possible. Click that button. I think
- 3:19Speaker 1: that QR code probably leads you to subscribing. That's what
- 3:24Speaker 1: I would assume. I haven't tried it yet. I probably
- 3:25Speaker 1: should have, Dan, Dan, if you tried the code.
- 3:29Speaker 5: I have not, I don't. I hope it leads there
- 3:32Speaker 5: and not somewhere mischievous.
- 3:34Speaker 1: So but I hope so too. I hope so too.
- 3:37Speaker 5: We're back after a new league, now, man, we got
- 3:41Speaker 5: a new league. Maybe we'll pick up some subscribers there too.
- 3:43Speaker 1: We yes, true, we have to get we have to
- 3:45Speaker 1: start studying up on Is it lega MX or is
- 3:47Speaker 1: that just what they call the soccer league?
- 3:49Speaker 5: I don't know that. Yeah, I honestly don't know. But
- 3:54Speaker 5: that's pretty crazy.
- 3:55Speaker 1: That's like crazy. Tyler told us this. We taped on Monday,
- 4:01Speaker 1: and then he told us a few hours after the show.
- 4:03Speaker 1: By the way, forgot to tell you guys, I'm going
- 4:06Speaker 1: to Mexico to pitch and uh, we were like, wow,
- 4:10Speaker 1: that's crazy. We thought for sure he was telling us
- 4:12Speaker 1: that he was quitting the podcast, but he's determined to
- 4:15Speaker 1: stay on. He actually was planning to do this whole
- 4:18Speaker 1: show with us today, but the schedule got through and around.
- 4:21Speaker 4: Yeah time change, he didn't he didn't recognize there's an
- 4:23Speaker 4: hour time change, so he thought practice was an hour
- 4:26Speaker 4: from now.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Uh Eastern time down there, and Marita was just saying
- 4:32Speaker 1: that correctly.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Yes, So he's uh, I love he's chasing the dream.
- 4:36Speaker 4: And I knew he was. I knew he was still
- 4:39Speaker 4: thinking about it. And even two weeks ago I said
- 4:42Speaker 4: something that you know, I was like, hey, I'm getting
- 4:44Speaker 4: good feedback on your on your stuff, and I was like,
- 4:47Speaker 4: this could lead to some stuff for you, and he's like,
- 4:49Speaker 4: I still want to play. And here we are two
- 4:51Speaker 4: weeks later and he is playing tomorrow night, which is crazy.
- 4:54Speaker 4: I can't wait to hear about it on Friday. I
- 4:56Speaker 4: hope he has a big bag of ice on Friday,
- 4:59Speaker 4: like like we get him in the trainer's.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Room, so that would be great to see. Obviously, the
- 5:07Speaker 1: hope is you pitch well in a major league team
- 5:10Speaker 1: takes notice Dan, it's it's it's not an uncommon.
- 5:13Speaker 4: Thing, no, And I you know, he didn't get a
- 5:16Speaker 4: chance in spring training. I think he was hoping for one.
- 5:21Speaker 4: But you know he's done this before. He's been in
- 5:23Speaker 4: Mexico at least once or twice before, and you know,
- 5:27Speaker 4: I mean, you get it. And the funny part is
- 5:30Speaker 4: is like you look at a game like last night
- 5:33Speaker 4: and you see a guy like over succeed with less
- 5:37Speaker 4: stuff because because Duff, he's not the guy he was
- 5:40Speaker 4: with the Twins when he's started ninety five ninety six.
- 5:42Speaker 4: I mean, he's a couple of years down the road
- 5:43Speaker 4: from that and arms get tired. But I think he
- 5:47Speaker 4: you know, before that, he was a pitcher like he
- 5:49Speaker 4: was a twin Man, and before the analytics here came along,
- 5:53Speaker 4: you know, guys uh pitched and pitched the contact. So
- 5:57Speaker 4: he knows what he's doing. He's a smart guy, and
- 6:01Speaker 4: I think he just wants to show get a chance,
- 6:03Speaker 4: any chance he can to show that he's got some
- 6:06Speaker 4: viability there and and getting on a mound is the
- 6:10Speaker 4: only chance to do that. You know, you can send
- 6:12Speaker 4: in all the clips that you want from track Man,
- 6:15Speaker 4: from your your bullpen sessions in a facility. But here's
- 6:19Speaker 4: the thing, there are thousands of those guys doing that.
- 6:22Speaker 4: It's it's when you get in the game and scouts
- 6:24Speaker 4: can see it, and there's some game tape and see
- 6:27Speaker 4: how hitters react that have never seen you before, that
- 6:29Speaker 4: kind of thing. So good luck to him because because
- 6:33Speaker 4: Duff is, it's gonna add a little element I hope,
- 6:36Speaker 4: just to hear some storytelling. We need to get him
- 6:39Speaker 4: in some good locations with with you know, backgrounds, like
- 6:45Speaker 4: he was saying he wants to do one in front
- 6:46Speaker 4: of a church, So let's see if we can get
- 6:49Speaker 4: him to do live in front of a church for
- 6:51Speaker 4: the podcast.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Well, plenty of content to come from that, I'm sure. Yes, Well, well,
- 6:57Speaker 1: many colorful backgrounds and good stories from Tyler going forward.
- 7:01Speaker 1: But you mentioned Bailey ober he is the talk of
- 7:03Speaker 1: Twins Territory today. Bailey ober All, look at that. It's
- 7:07Speaker 1: a little too long. It broke off the edge of
- 7:10Speaker 1: if you're watching on YouTube, another production glitch from yours, truly,
- 7:13Speaker 1: but it's not terrible. We'll leave it. Bailey ober through
- 7:18Speaker 1: a Maddox last night, and we should explain what that
- 7:22Speaker 1: is for brooks Lee and the rest of the young
- 7:25Speaker 1: crowd that hasn't seen the matrix because it's a term
- 7:29Speaker 1: that comes from around the same era. It's a complete game,
- 7:32Speaker 1: shut out, fewer than one hundred pitches, and it's called
- 7:35Speaker 1: Maddox because of course, Greg Maddox, the Hall of Famer,
- 7:39Speaker 1: did it more than anybody in baseball history fifteen times
- 7:42Speaker 1: from nineteen ninety to two thousand and one. I believe
- 7:45Speaker 1: was his last one, So it is the last time
- 7:49Speaker 1: Maddox did it. Is older than some players in the
- 7:51Speaker 1: Twins roster, for sure.
- 7:53Speaker 4: It's especially impressive given what we know about Bailey pitching
- 7:58Speaker 4: with reduced velocity. Unlike your chiron there. He was super
- 8:03Speaker 4: efficient last night. And by the way, kids, the chiron
- 8:08Speaker 4: is the words at the bottom explain everything.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Yes, but you know he was extremely efficient.
- 8:15Speaker 4: He ran into a hungry, aggressive Marlins team that can hit.
- 8:20Speaker 4: They've you know, that top part of that order is
- 8:22Speaker 4: very good, and you know he had all his pitches working.
- 8:26Speaker 4: I wrote a really long story today about how he's
- 8:30Speaker 4: doing this, and it all kind of came to fruition.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Last night.
- 8:33Speaker 4: We saw him. The change up was amazing. The change
- 8:38Speaker 4: up was you know, nine swings and misses. He spotted
- 8:41Speaker 4: it I think six times for called strikes.
- 8:44Speaker 5: He was doing a.
- 8:46Speaker 4: Really good job of using that, pairing it with his fastball,
- 8:49Speaker 4: and the slider was a big pitch for him. Last night,
- 8:53Speaker 4: of his pitches, he had fourteen called strikes, he had
- 8:55Speaker 4: fourteen swings and misses, and you know, there were still
- 8:59Speaker 4: a lot of balls put in play, but we saw
- 9:03Speaker 4: kind of classic Bailey over where it's a ton.
- 9:05Speaker 5: Of pop ups or weak contact.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Right now, his hard hit rate against is only thirty
- 9:11Speaker 4: one point three percent this season. That's eighty fourth percentile
- 9:14Speaker 4: in the majors. So when Bailey over is putting, you
- 9:18Speaker 4: know when he's at his best. He's never been a
- 9:20Speaker 4: huge strikeout guy, although two seasons ago he had nine
- 9:23Speaker 4: point six strikeouts per nine, which was a really impressive season,
- 9:27Speaker 4: but he's down to six point eight right now per nine.
- 9:30Speaker 4: He's never been a guy that's lived and died with velocity.
- 9:33Speaker 4: He's been a guy that mixes in matches, and right
- 9:36Speaker 4: now what he is doing is exactly that. And you
- 9:39Speaker 4: see it with pop ups, with weak grounders to first
- 9:42Speaker 4: or to short or to third. You know, just guys
- 9:46Speaker 4: looking fooled because it's coming from you know, he's six
- 9:49Speaker 4: foot nine inches tall, and it's coming from.
- 9:52Speaker 5: This eye level way up that you're just unaccustomed to seeing.
- 9:57Speaker 4: And so, you know, what's think about it, and he
- 10:02Speaker 4: basically is a throwback with the way he is pitching
- 10:04Speaker 4: and manipulating the ball and trusting spin and just getting
- 10:09Speaker 4: guys out in this era of velocity, which is really
- 10:12Speaker 4: impressive because last year he couldn't do it. Last year
- 10:16Speaker 4: was more injury related, and we could talk about this
- 10:18Speaker 4: a little bit more, but last year he had hip
- 10:21Speaker 4: injury and he had knee injury, and it all led
- 10:24Speaker 4: to bad command. And the difference between you know, good
- 10:28Speaker 4: Bailey and bad Bailey is when he knows where the
- 10:30Speaker 4: ball is. He's capable of a two hit shutout with
- 10:34Speaker 4: seven strikeouts on eighty nine pitches, which is just so incredible.
- 10:37Speaker 4: And when he's not gave up thirty runs in thirty
- 10:41Speaker 4: innings last June, including fourteen homers, which was the third
- 10:44Speaker 4: most in any calendar month by.
- 10:46Speaker 5: A pitcher in Major League history. He's clearly found some
- 10:50Speaker 5: things out, but also he's clearly healthy and commanding.
- 10:53Speaker 4: It's truly impressive what he's done. It's not without its flaws.
- 10:58Speaker 4: We saw it his last time out in Washington, he
- 11:00Speaker 4: got hit. He is susceptible to getting hit when things
- 11:03Speaker 4: aren't going great because the ball gets put in play
- 11:06Speaker 4: so much. But when he's on, he can be really on,
- 11:08Speaker 4: and that's great for the Twins.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Just the second Maddox in baseball this season, the other
- 11:17Speaker 1: by Sandy Alcantara of the Marlins, who the Twins are
- 11:20Speaker 1: playing right now. But they will not face him in
- 11:23Speaker 1: this series.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Oh, they get away with not facing him, and they
- 11:25Speaker 4: get away with not facing Miserowski from Milwaukee. That's like,
- 11:28Speaker 4: that is some serious luck. Go to Vegas kind of
- 11:32Speaker 4: luck right there when you dodge those.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Two guys in exactly. We will get into more from
- 11:38Speaker 1: Tuesday's game, talk about the rest of the series coming
- 11:41Speaker 1: up right after this.

- 12:45Speaker 6: seat geek.
- 12:48Speaker 1: All right. The Twins have now won three straight in
- 12:51Speaker 1: for the first time since mid April when they were
- 12:55Speaker 1: on that hot streak of eight wins in nine games,
- 12:58Speaker 1: and they're coming off He's winning Cleveland for the first
- 13:01Speaker 1: time since it's the same time frame. So a great start,
- 13:04Speaker 1: and it was largely thanks to Bailey Over, who found
- 13:07Speaker 1: a creative way to get around the team's bullpen issues
- 13:10Speaker 1: for a night by just pitching the whole dang game.
- 13:13Speaker 1: We already talked about his complete game shutout, but I
- 13:15Speaker 1: think the larger picture story of Bailey over Dan has
- 13:19Speaker 1: been how he's been able to be so successful obviously
- 13:22Speaker 1: not his first great start of the year, despite a
- 13:25Speaker 1: dip in velocity, which these days is usually considered to
- 13:28Speaker 1: be a huge problem.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, this is a sport obsessed with velocity.
- 13:34Speaker 4: Miss Rowski got an All Star Game start based off
- 13:37Speaker 4: of five out ends last year where he was lights
- 13:40Speaker 4: out and just lighting up the radar. So that gives
- 13:43Speaker 4: you an idea of how much we want it. You know,
- 13:45Speaker 4: we're talking about the Paul Schemes and Tarik Schools of.
- 13:48Speaker 5: The world rightfully.
- 13:49Speaker 4: So those guys are amazing at what they do. There
- 13:52Speaker 4: is some room in this sport, I think for the
- 13:56Speaker 4: Bailey overs and especially you know last year it was
- 14:00Speaker 4: It's hard to say that because last year it was
- 14:02Speaker 4: such a struggle. I mean there were times where and
- 14:04Speaker 4: I've references before, but he said he threw his hands up,
- 14:07Speaker 4: is like I didn't know where they were going sometimes,
- 14:09Speaker 4: like he had no idea of his command. He's command dependent,
- 14:13Speaker 4: but he's always been that way. This is a guy
- 14:15Speaker 4: who at his peak, his best basketball velosty in the
- 14:18Speaker 4: season was ninety two point three miles an hour. That
- 14:21Speaker 4: was twenty twenty one when he was a rookie. Right now,
- 14:23Speaker 4: it's currently eighty eight point six, and there are reasons
- 14:26Speaker 4: why that brings up red flag because there's no question
- 14:29Speaker 4: like that is a scary number. It's down from ninety
- 14:32Speaker 4: point three last year, so clearly he's not going the
- 14:36Speaker 4: direction that you want to. But what he's done is
- 14:39Speaker 4: makeup for it with pitchability, and he talked about it.
- 14:42Speaker 4: He went to Sarasota in the offseason in October, took
- 14:46Speaker 4: his family down there and went there in October, went
- 14:49Speaker 4: there again in January, and the sole purpose was working
- 14:52Speaker 4: on his hip, getting it more mobile again, getting that
- 14:56Speaker 4: back to being healthy, which then allowed him to kind
- 14:58Speaker 4: of work on his basically everything else, like his refined
- 15:03Speaker 4: his command, which meant not worrying about his land leg anymore,
- 15:08Speaker 4: which was a constant issue last year, which meant getting
- 15:11Speaker 4: his hand in the right position to use all of
- 15:13Speaker 4: his pitches and all of that stuff. When it aligns,
- 15:16Speaker 4: it can be really good. When you're six foot nine
- 15:20Speaker 4: and it's not aligned, it can get really out of whack.
- 15:22Speaker 4: And we saw that last year with increased walks with
- 15:25Speaker 4: just mistakes over the middle, which is something we've never
- 15:28Speaker 4: seen from Bailey over before. And he's talked about it, like,
- 15:32Speaker 4: I think he learned a lot last year, even more
- 15:34Speaker 4: so pitching with diminished stuff about pitching. He'd always been
- 15:38Speaker 4: a pitcher, but I think you learned tricks, and now
- 15:41Speaker 4: he's got good command. He's got the hand in the
- 15:44Speaker 4: right place and it allows him to do the things
- 15:47Speaker 4: that he was not able to do last year at
- 15:49Speaker 4: a more successful rate, and we've seen it pay off.
- 15:51Speaker 4: And his quote about it was great. Talked to him
- 15:54Speaker 4: about it, and I wrote today in The Athletic the story.
- 15:57Speaker 4: But we had planned about right in this week, and
- 16:00Speaker 4: then he went to d C and had a terrible start,
- 16:02Speaker 4: which lets you know, hey, he is susceptible. But his
- 16:06Speaker 4: quote is, it's just pitching, the lost art of pitching.
- 16:09Speaker 4: People are trying to throw as hard as they can
- 16:12Speaker 4: all the time. Right now, I don't have my best
- 16:14Speaker 4: bilow being able to mix off speed and get it
- 16:16Speaker 4: to my locations that I want to throw it to,
- 16:19Speaker 4: getting the change up down and when needed, throw some
- 16:22Speaker 4: fastballs up and in and try to get guys out balanced.
- 16:24Speaker 4: That's the name of the game, especially if you look
- 16:27Speaker 4: over the last twenty years. Look, he's not doing anything different.
- 16:31Speaker 4: He's just manipulating the ball. He's changing eye sights for hitters.
- 16:36Speaker 4: He's starting high in the zone and moving down. He's
- 16:39Speaker 4: more east to west than he used to be. He
- 16:42Speaker 4: used to be far more north south pitching. But he's
- 16:46Speaker 4: a guy that knows how to do this. And what's
- 16:48Speaker 4: more is he's confident and believes in it. And that
- 16:52Speaker 4: wasn't necessarily there.
- 16:53Speaker 5: Last year.
- 16:53Speaker 4: I saw a very frustrated guy who was stand up
- 16:57Speaker 4: about what he was going through and tried to pitch
- 16:59Speaker 4: through stuff. And you know, when we asked him in
- 17:01Speaker 4: early June about the hip, he said, it's nothing I
- 17:04Speaker 4: haven't pitched through before. By the end of June, he
- 17:06Speaker 4: was exasperated. He went on the il. You could tell
- 17:09Speaker 4: he was just beyond frustrated and searching for answers and
- 17:13Speaker 4: he never quite got him back. Well, he seems to
- 17:15Speaker 4: be in a much better place that way now. And again,
- 17:18Speaker 4: anytime you put the ball in play, as much as
- 17:20Speaker 4: he is definitely have you can run in like a
- 17:26Speaker 4: team can just find grass, right, a team can bleed
- 17:29Speaker 4: you to death, or they can hit you hard if
- 17:31Speaker 4: your pitches are fat. So he is susceptible to bad games.
- 17:35Speaker 4: Not gonna pretend like this is a guy that's going
- 17:37Speaker 4: to be as dominant as he was Tuesday night all
- 17:40Speaker 4: the time. But this is six good starts in seven.
- 17:43Speaker 4: I think the Twins will take that. I think Bailey
- 17:45Speaker 4: over will take that. It's a really it's an intriguing
- 17:49Speaker 4: storyline for this team that you know needs intriguing storylines.
- 17:53Speaker 4: So it's fun to watch and definitely you know that
- 17:57Speaker 4: how much.
- 17:58Speaker 5: Effort goes into it. It's cool because this is a
- 18:01Speaker 5: really good dude who's.
- 18:02Speaker 4: Been a great teammate for the Twins for a long time,
- 18:04Speaker 4: finding success again, and it's it's nice to see.
- 18:08Speaker 1: He is incredibly tall. You're right after the game last night,
- 18:16Speaker 1: he was walking on the field with Twins pr boss
- 18:20Speaker 1: Dustin Morris, and I'm not gonna show the screenshot I
- 18:23Speaker 1: took because I don't want to do that to Dustin,
- 18:26Speaker 1: but man, he's tall. I don't know what else to say.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I mean, he would make me look short and I'm
- 18:30Speaker 1: six to two, but.
- 18:31Speaker 4: He Yeah, wait, those photos they look like when al
- 18:33Speaker 4: two Bay is standing next to Aaron Judge, just.
- 18:39Speaker 5: When you have this.
- 18:40Speaker 4: Sorry, Dustin is not a short for Dustin is not
- 18:43Speaker 4: a short guy either. Dustin is Dustin's of medium height.
- 18:48Speaker 4: But anybody standing next to Bailey overt looks short. And
- 18:51Speaker 4: that was pretty funny.
- 18:54Speaker 1: If ober had had to come out of the game, Dan,
- 18:57Speaker 1: it looked like Andrew Morris was going to be in
- 18:59Speaker 1: line to step in for him, which was an encouraging
- 19:02Speaker 1: sign after a busy weekend for him in the bullpen.
- 19:05Speaker 4: Yeah, we saw him on Saturday night throwing ninety eight
- 19:07Speaker 4: over that eleven or twelve pitch out in he came
- 19:10Speaker 4: in and just face three batters. He came back Sunday
- 19:13Speaker 4: got the open pitched you know.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Was throwing ninety six, face three batters.
- 19:18Speaker 4: All contact that inning, but all found gloves and you know,
- 19:24Speaker 4: you never know how guys can respond. Very good timing. Probably,
- 19:28Speaker 4: I'm guessing the Twins plan this where they knew Monday
- 19:31Speaker 4: was off so they would just not even talk to
- 19:34Speaker 4: Andrew Morris. They probably were like, walk in, find a couch,
- 19:38Speaker 4: lay down, don't do anything today. That kind of like
- 19:41Speaker 4: you when a guy goes back to back days for
- 19:43Speaker 4: the first time. It's a big deal, especially when you're
- 19:45Speaker 4: talking about a guy throwing ninety eight and ninety six,
- 19:49Speaker 4: so you have to be careful with that and you'd
- 19:52Speaker 4: never know how he's gonna respond. And clearly on Tuesday
- 19:56Speaker 4: he felt well enough where he got up in the
- 19:59Speaker 4: ninth and he and Taylor Rogers were getting ready in
- 20:03Speaker 4: case Bailey ober ran into trouble. Bailey ober made that moot,
- 20:07Speaker 4: but definitely a good sign that Andrew Morris, you know,
- 20:12Speaker 4: that would have been three games in four days, and
- 20:15Speaker 4: that he felt confident enough to go out there and
- 20:18Speaker 4: they felt good enough with what they heard from him
- 20:21Speaker 4: after he played catching pregame. So that's that's something we're
- 20:25Speaker 4: going to keep an eye on all season because Andrew
- 20:27Speaker 4: Morris definitely is one of those guys that potentially could
- 20:30Speaker 4: have some helium when it comes to late innings roles
- 20:34Speaker 4: and this team desperately needs them. So yeah, it was
- 20:38Speaker 4: that was a good sign to see.
- 20:41Speaker 1: And with that, it's time for Daily Diners. We are
- 20:53Speaker 1: back for our Daily Dinger segment and this is brought
- 20:57Speaker 1: to you by Fan Duel or you can play Daily Dingers.
- 20:59Speaker 1: It's easy make a free pick on who's hitting a
- 21:01Speaker 1: home run in their game. You can pick a Minnesota Twin,
- 21:04Speaker 1: it can pick anybody from Major League Baseball. If you're right,
- 21:06Speaker 1: you get a profit boost to use on your next
- 21:09Speaker 1: bet for a chance at extra winnings. And this is
- 21:14Speaker 1: a good time Dan to talk about Ryan Jeffers, who's
- 21:16Speaker 1: been on a bit of a tear and hit the
- 21:18Speaker 1: big home run last night. Two run shots I believe, Yeah,
- 21:23Speaker 1: make the final margin three nothing, But he has been
- 21:26Speaker 1: one of the Twins bright spots for sure on offense
- 21:28Speaker 1: this year.
- 21:29Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 21:29Speaker 4: I think part of this, and I've said it before,
- 21:31Speaker 4: I think part of this is just unlocked by the abs.
- 21:34Speaker 4: He's so good and confident at that. I think him
- 21:37Speaker 4: like having that this year has been an extra thing
- 21:39Speaker 4: to just give him confidence, and it's carrying over at
- 21:42Speaker 4: the plate. He's not overthinking anything. He looks great at
- 21:46Speaker 4: the plate and he had a good year last year,
- 21:47Speaker 4: but there wasn't very much power with it. And we've
- 21:50Speaker 4: seen Ryan Jeffers have power before, but ended up with
- 21:52Speaker 4: nine home runs last year. I think he learned a
- 21:54Speaker 4: lot about himself as a hitter. It is showing out
- 21:57Speaker 4: right now, like Ryan Jeffers April tenth, three twenty nine.
- 22:03Speaker 4: Let's get I don't have my glasses on three twenty nine,
- 22:05Speaker 4: four to twenty nine, six forty five slug in percentage,
- 22:10Speaker 4: six homers, twenty something RBIs and that spanned twenty two
- 22:14Speaker 4: RBIs Since April tenth, he's been a guy that finds
- 22:20Speaker 4: the big.
- 22:20Speaker 5: Moment, and that was you know.
- 22:22Speaker 4: Uri Perez looked really good for five innings last night Twins.
- 22:27Speaker 4: I think they got the first hit in the fifth inning,
- 22:30Speaker 4: and one of the few guys that got him was
- 22:33Speaker 4: Trevor Larnick. He got a single last night and walked twice,
- 22:37Speaker 4: but otherwise the Twins were having trouble. Perez left a
- 22:40Speaker 4: slider over the middle. Jeffers hit it in the second deck.
- 22:44Speaker 4: Three nothing for this team is a significantly different than
- 22:48Speaker 4: one nothing. If it's one nothing, we'd probably see Bailey
- 22:50Speaker 4: get pulled after steven innings and they try to match
- 22:54Speaker 4: it up the rest of the way, and instead with
- 22:57Speaker 4: a three run cushion, you know, they they were able
- 22:59Speaker 4: to let Dailey over go back out there and complete
- 23:03Speaker 4: their first game the Twins. That's the first complete game
- 23:05Speaker 4: for the Twins since Pablo Lopez in twenty twenty three.
- 23:07Speaker 4: I think it was July of twenty twenty three. So
- 23:11Speaker 4: that's a rare thing.
- 23:12Speaker 5: For the Twins. Complete game and a shutout, you know
- 23:16Speaker 5: it was.
- 23:17Speaker 4: It was so impressive, and Jeffers has been even more
- 23:20Speaker 4: so at the plate. So I'm not gonna make him
- 23:24Speaker 4: my pick for the Daily Dinger because who who do
- 23:26Speaker 4: we have pitching for the Marlin tonight?
- 23:29Speaker 1: It's a name that Twins fans, Minnesota fans should know
- 23:32Speaker 1: very well, Max Meyer, Woodbury product, Gopher product, and he's
- 23:37Speaker 1: been having a heck of a year so far, two
- 23:40Speaker 1: and oh and eight starts with a two seven nine
- 23:42Speaker 1: ERA and just two home runs allowed, none since early April. Yeah,
- 23:48Speaker 1: so who you got.
- 23:49Speaker 4: I'm gonna let's see lefty hitter. I'll go Walner. I'm
- 23:56Speaker 4: just gonna say, Matt Walner. He you know, have a
- 23:59Speaker 4: little minnesot on Minnesota battle there, you know.
- 24:03Speaker 5: And and Walner.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Oh I like that. That's a good twist.
- 24:07Speaker 5: Yeah, we'll just go with that. How about you?
- 24:11Speaker 1: The first thing I'll say is you might be better
- 24:13Speaker 1: off picking a different game. If you're gonna play Daily
- 24:14Speaker 1: Dinger tonight, then to bet on a Twin hitting at home,
- 24:18Speaker 1: or off Max Meyer. However, for the third straight time,
- 24:22Speaker 1: I will pick Byron Buxton, because why not, I will say,
- 24:25Speaker 1: we have this is the third time we've done this.
- 24:27Speaker 1: One of the three of us has gotten has picked
- 24:30Speaker 1: a a correct twin to Homer in the last two times.
- 24:35Speaker 4: So and that was me And for those of you
- 24:37Speaker 4: listening on the internet and not watching on YouTube, that
- 24:40Speaker 4: was me doing the victory chant.
- 24:43Speaker 5: I'm the only one that's correctly.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Picked Buxton the first one.
- 24:48Speaker 5: Well then I got didn't I pick Jeffers? Yeah?
- 24:51Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, Oh, so so we're we've we've nailed it
- 24:54Speaker 4: in the two times we've done it, saying.
- 24:56Speaker 1: So you know, if this street can continues s Wallner Buxton,
- 25:01Speaker 1: tonight's their night for sure, I can.
- 25:04Speaker 4: Possibly go right, yeah and shocking. I forgot you got
- 25:07Speaker 4: one right, you know, I was just focused on me.

- 25:51Speaker 1: The Twins will try to make it four wins in
- 25:53Speaker 1: a row tonight at Target Field, in the second of
- 25:57Speaker 1: three games against the Marlins. Max Meyers said on the
- 26:00Speaker 1: mound for Miami, still, I still want to call him
- 26:03Speaker 1: Florida every time. I'm old school like that. For the Twins,
- 26:09Speaker 1: it'll be sime In Woods Richardson Dan who continues to
- 26:12Speaker 1: need a win in the worst way.
- 26:14Speaker 5: Yeah he does.
- 26:14Speaker 4: And last time out we talked start in Washington and
- 26:19Speaker 4: I said talking about, hey, it's this.
- 26:23Speaker 5: Is this tough?
- 26:24Speaker 4: You've been so consistent and he said, yeah, it's tough.
- 26:27Speaker 4: But he's like, if we want to hear the same
- 26:28Speaker 4: sob story every time, you can do that, but let's
- 26:32Speaker 4: let's you know, he wants to turn it around.
- 26:35Speaker 5: He wants to get refocused.
- 26:38Speaker 4: Not that he's not focused, but he wants to you know,
- 26:41Speaker 4: he could just desperately use a win so that he
- 26:43Speaker 4: can kind of get going the other direction. He's had
- 26:47Speaker 4: one good start. I think the team's won one of
- 26:49Speaker 4: his starts so far, he has not gotten a win
- 26:52Speaker 4: as of yet. I think he's got six ninety two
- 26:54Speaker 4: ERA right now. It's been tough and we haven't seen
- 26:58Speaker 4: the splitter be as good as it was at the
- 27:00Speaker 4: end of last year. At the end of last year,
- 27:02Speaker 4: he developed that splitter into a very good weapon. And
- 27:05Speaker 4: you know, this is a guy that changed his armslot
- 27:07Speaker 4: a couple of years ago to get more athletic with
- 27:10Speaker 4: his fastball and adds some velocity. And you know, in
- 27:13Speaker 4: doing that, his change up was not what it was previously,
- 27:17Speaker 4: and the changeup was always an elite pitch.
- 27:19Speaker 5: So he developed the splitter. While the splitter just hasn't
- 27:22Speaker 5: quite done what he wants to do. He struggled and
- 27:25Speaker 5: he definitely could use a good one.
- 27:28Speaker 1: He's owned five this season. You mentioned the Era also
- 27:33Speaker 1: has given up an al worst thirty earned runs so far,
- 27:37Speaker 1: and yes, the Twins just one in seven in his
- 27:40Speaker 1: eight starts. And then Thursday night it was supposed to
- 27:43Speaker 1: be Connor Prelip due up, but that is now TBD.
- 27:47Speaker 4: Yeah, on Sunday they mentioned that they're going to push
- 27:50Speaker 4: Connor Prelip is not This is not mc mickabele, this
- 27:55Speaker 4: is not Todd Bradley injury woes.
- 27:58Speaker 5: Look, Connor Prelip has.
- 28:00Speaker 4: Less than one hundred and fifty professional innings in a
- 28:02Speaker 4: career that started in twenty twenty two. He last year
- 28:05Speaker 4: pitched for the first time through a complete season for
- 28:08Speaker 4: the first time in his life. He went every six
- 28:11Speaker 4: games basically because they.
- 28:13Speaker 5: Had him pitching once a week.
- 28:14Speaker 4: The minor leagues is always off on Mondays, and he's
- 28:17Speaker 4: adapting to this five day cycle and it's it's challenging,
- 28:22Speaker 4: and they don't want to burn him out and they
- 28:23Speaker 4: want to limit his workload. I would bet ideally they
- 28:26Speaker 4: have one and ten one hundred and twenty innings earmarked
- 28:29Speaker 4: for him for the season, because you know, you went
- 28:31Speaker 4: eighty two last year, so what's the bump up there?
- 28:34Speaker 4: You can you can handle an extra thirty forty. So
- 28:36Speaker 4: they're slowing him down and I think we'll see him
- 28:39Speaker 4: during the Milwaukee Series, which is cool because he grew
- 28:42Speaker 4: up in Toma and he's a Wisconsin native, so he'll
- 28:45Speaker 4: get to face the Brewers over the weekend. But they're
- 28:48Speaker 4: going TBD or TVA, whatever you want to call it,
- 28:51Speaker 4: it could be a bullpen game. We saw one interesting
- 28:54Speaker 4: development last night. Hendry Rojas walked in from the handshake
- 29:00Speaker 4: for Bailey over with the bullpen. He wasn't in the
- 29:02Speaker 4: dugout like a starter might be, so probably a long
- 29:06Speaker 4: relief role still out there for him. So it wouldn't
- 29:09Speaker 4: shock me with him and Travis Adams to be in
- 29:13Speaker 4: a bullpen game. Tomorrow we'll see, you know, possible to
- 29:16Speaker 4: go to Zebbie Matthews who is online. I think start
- 29:20Speaker 4: tomorrow also at TRIPAA. But again it would not shock
- 29:23Speaker 4: me at off. The Twins tried to do our bullpen
- 29:26Speaker 4: game and get through that before to close out the
- 29:29Speaker 4: series A.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Six forty start Wednesday night. Tonight afternoon game twelve forty
- 29:36Speaker 1: start on Thursday before Milwaukee comes to town. We will
- 29:40Speaker 1: be back Friday to preview that with you. Twins got
- 29:45Speaker 1: out of last place last night thanks to losses from
- 29:47Speaker 1: the Tigers and Royals as well. There it's actually a
- 29:49Speaker 1: three way tie at nineteen shot three for third place,
- 29:54Speaker 1: but the Twins on the better end of the tide
- 29:56Speaker 1: breaker overall. I believe at least that's how they're ordered
- 29:59Speaker 1: here on the on the screen, but uh, three wins
- 30:03Speaker 1: in a row, they'll go for four tonight. Before we go,
- 30:06Speaker 1: we have an important update for you that we must share.
- 30:09Speaker 4: I know, we we were saying Tyler Duffy would update
- 30:12Speaker 4: us on Friday, right this, this is this is good content.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Tyler has arrived at the Leonis de Yucatan clubhouse and
- 30:21Speaker 1: has sent us a visual from its side. And uh,
- 30:26Speaker 1: there's lots of unpack about this picture of apologies to
- 30:29Speaker 1: those listening and not watching on YouTube, but it's Tyler
- 30:33Speaker 1: with very wide eyes taking a selfie with the lockers
- 30:37Speaker 1: in the background. And above the lockers is some fantastic artwork.
- 30:42Speaker 4: Yeah, the artwork is special, Like, yeah, whatever, we got
- 30:45Speaker 4: a bunch of Neon colors and red Leonis and red.
- 30:48Speaker 1: There's a lightning bolt in there. There's a very intimidating
- 30:52Speaker 1: looking lion.
- 30:53Speaker 5: I was gonna say, is that a liger? Is that
- 30:55Speaker 5: a like?
- 30:55Speaker 1: Oh it could be a like on top there? That
- 30:58Speaker 1: could be a liger. I don't no, But that's Tyler
- 31:03Speaker 1: Duffy for those for those looking in Mexico ready to
- 31:07Speaker 1: get after it again. He's scheduled, we understand, as we
- 31:11Speaker 1: understand it, to make his first start down there tomorrow,
- 31:14Speaker 1: so we'll definitely be watching that as well and have
- 31:16Speaker 1: an update for that on Friday. Thank you for listening
- 31:20Speaker 1: as always. If you like what you heard, please toss
- 31:22Speaker 1: us alike a subscribe as you can see there again.
- 31:25Speaker 1: If you're watching, we're hoping to get to five hundred
- 31:27Speaker 1: subs sometime in the near future. There's a QR code
- 31:30Speaker 1: for you to make it easy. We'd love to have
- 31:32Speaker 1: you following along. Leave us a comment if you have
- 31:35Speaker 1: any feedback or suggestions. We thank you very much and
- 31:38Speaker 1: we'll see you on Friday on Twin Cities Territory. Bye bye.
