- 0:10What does the nanny do? OK, so we're done.
- 0:13Goodbye. You shut it off.
- 0:17Do not twist my words. Do not.
- 0:19Make me a victim, sweetie. Just look at the mountain.
- 0:22That's what you saw that day. Just the knife in the kidneys
- 0:27over all these years and the sacrifices that I made to love
- 0:32you. Oh my goodness, I need to see a
- 0:49chiropractor. I've got whiplash after this
- 0:52episode. Whiplash.
- 0:55It was so fast. Very fast.
- 0:58It's a Shorty so it was only 1/2
- 1:02lot of things that happened and it went really quickly.
- 1:05It was very fast a. Lot of talking one-on-one
- 1:09interviews where there were important things said that felt
- 1:14necessary to record with our handwriting, our cursive, your.
- 1:22Calligraphy Pen. Yes, we had to pause and make
- 1:25sure that our L's were just so.
- 1:28And apologies in advance. We have a little bit of delay
- 1:33with our recording because I was sick and before I was sick,
- 1:37Kimber was sick. And so if you hear extra
- 1:42wheezing, coughing in the background and sniffles,
- 1:48apologies. Apologies all around.
- 1:50I have taken Dayquil so maybe I'm even a little more dumb than
- 1:56Well, at least you're not on your deathbed anymore.
- 1:58Very sad you are missing me or missing the sister wives and.
- 2:01Oh yeah. Definitely had to come find you.
- 2:05Deathbed. I missed Christine so much and
- 2:08then they gave me a whole bunch of Christine in this episode so
- 2:11that was God's way of making me laugh.
- 2:17Season 5 episode 6 confronting
- 2:22Gotta love an episode with failure in the title.
- 2:25Ominous. And I will point out now that
- 2:30they started the episode with ominous music, and I don't think
- 2:34they've really done that before.
- 2:35Yeah, I'm not so sure, but it was.
- 2:38But I've noted. Oh, things are not going well,
- 2:44And we opened at Christine's house once again, A lot of
- 2:48Christine. A lot of Christine.
- 2:49In this episode, she tells us that she got a 73% on her
- 2:53practice exam for her real estate license.
- 2:56Was this the one before or after her first failure?
- 3:01After I believe she took a class OK so she failed she decided to
- 3:07take a class and then they gave a practice exam in the class and
- 3:18disgusting I got a 73. Disgusting.
- 3:23Well, they also gave us a flashback to her yelling in the
- 3:28restaurant about her initial failure, which is always great
- 3:33I failed. So that's some fun sepia toned
- 3:42uninterrupted and dedicated time for studying for this and she
- 3:46talks about having a 2 year old and how she's being constantly
- 3:53and she says perhaps This is why I failed.
- 3:56I think Truly is 3 OK. And she's like, I probably
- 4:00haven't gotten more than 15 minutes of non interrupted study
- 4:06As a single mom, you know that'll happen.
- 4:09Yeah, as a single mom who is married and has three sister
- 4:13wives, but she's definitely a single mom right now.
- 4:16I hear a lot about that in this episode, and I'm not mad about
- 4:23Sweet, sweet honesty. We've been missing you.
- 4:26Christine says failing would just be another failure, which,
- 4:31you know, OK, so we're going to be talking a lot about I'm
- 4:34taking off my, I'm taking off my sweatshirt right now.
- 4:37He still has a fever, mind you. He's sitting here, he's taking
- 4:46The sweats and the chills. He has a lot of experience with
- 4:49failure and he's getting worked up about.
- 4:51It Oh my gosh, this is it I'm it's like I'm reliving all of my
- 5:03She says that passing is a personal goal of hers.
- 5:07And you know, I really like her, she states the obvious.
- 5:10The way she says this, it's a personal goal.
- 5:14Something personally that I would do, something I personally
- 5:20Christine does have a way with words.
- 5:22Yep, Yep, Yep. Semantics.
- 5:23Saying the same thing over and over again with different words
- 5:28like I just did there. Maybe this will be the first
- 5:35failure episode for my Sister Wives podcast.
- 5:37Perhaps. Luckily that intro was short
- 5:40lived and the family, all of the Browns gather and go to the
- 5:44cul-de-sac to see the status of their dream homes.
- 5:47And there's a crew there breaking ground and getting
- 5:50things started for their homes. There's machinery digging up
- 5:54dirt. I don't know what that's called.
- 6:00An excavator. Excavator.
- 6:03See you. Later.
- 6:04Oh, yeah. Excavating the ground.
- 6:06Absolutely. So, you know, they're digging up
- 6:08dirt, getting, you know, Christine's like that's where my
- 6:12home is going to be. You're breaking my ground first.
- 6:16And they had to take the kids to
- 6:21happening. It's actually happening.
- 6:24OK. Yeah.
- 6:25Little proof. Proof for your pudding, finally.
- 6:29This pudding needs some proof.
- 6:33Again, We're not just to hoping,
- 6:38See here. What did that?
- 6:39What was that, Robyn? Like?
- 6:40You mean you're giving us a second chance at hoping?
- 6:43Yeah, Yep, here it is coming to fruition, ladies and gents.
- 6:48And Robyn gives us another precious Pearl.
- 6:50It feels like a long time since I've had a real home.
- 6:54This is it. I hope it is Robyn with the
- 7:00quotes again. And if there's anyone that I'd
- 7:03like to see homeless, it's Robyn.
- 7:04So it's a little like, cool, thanks for letting us know
- 7:07you're going to have a home, Robyn.
- 7:09If there's anyone who's been homeless before on this show,
- 7:12it's Robyn, right? Well, has she?
- 7:14I don't know if she's really been homeless.
- 7:15I mean, she lived with her mom
- 7:18That's not not what one would consider homeless.
- 7:21But there is a photo of Dayton
- 7:24heater in a trailer. So I don't know what that means
- 7:28to. Her that's homeless.
- 7:29Yeah, to her, that's homeless.
- 7:34and 1000 times darker than the
- 7:39Her neck, her neck, and her chest are exposed.
- 7:43Her long sleeves are just covering the arms.
- 7:46They are not covering the chest at this time and the chest is
- 7:51whiter than my ass. Oh God no, it wasn't that bad.
- 7:55It was really bad. Oh geez, it was bad.
- 7:58Her face has been a distraction.
- 8:00We did cover it in our last episode quite a bit about Meri's
- 8:06I think she stopped tanning the entire body.
- 8:08Oh, and saved a little money and decided to just tan from the
- 8:14chin up. So she should be rocking some
- 8:17turtlenecks or something. She should be doing something to
- 8:26spray tans finally and then just decided to use the same
- 8:30makeup that she was using when she was getting the full body
- 8:34spray tan. Oh, sure.
- 8:35It was problematic as always. Kody rehashes the move to Vegas.
- 8:40You know, we have to get some clips from back in the day,
- 8:43telling the kids about the move,
- 8:47blah, blah, blah, setting us up for this theme of confronting
- 8:51failure and maybe just not even confronting it, just failure,
- 8:55failure. So he's got to remind us of
- 8:58their previous failures, which
- 9:00Kody says this is significant.
- 9:04of security. I love his use of the word
- 9:07significant. I was like, oh Kody, it's a big
- 9:10word for you. Well, he doesn't know what being
- 9:12a significant other is, but he
- 9:16significant means in the sense
- 9:19children and give him a sense of
- 9:21Again, like what the fuck man?
- 9:24lies. Yes, absolutely.
- 9:27There is a moment where we get
- 9:30couch moment, and they say they think it'll be more like Lehigh
- 9:34for the families to be next to
- 9:36And that's something that we've heard in previous episodes kind
- 9:39of this whole things were better
- 9:44these younger kids get this experience.
- 9:46So, you know, the older kids are
- 9:48Probably prompted by a producer.
- 9:50Whatever. Yeah, kind of the first time
- 9:52that the older kids have said the younger kids need what we
- 9:56had in Lehigh. And Maddie says that she can't
- 10:02walls, to actually be able to paint and like claim a space.
- 10:06And I understand that. Well, yeah.
- 10:08And in this episode, there were moments where I noticed broken
- 10:16Like, there's just, they're in these rentals where things
- 10:19probably aren't kept up all that great.
- 10:22But then when you've got the Browns living there, you could
- 10:26And by the end of a year, year and a half, however long they've
- 10:33like it looks like there's like 17 cats and they've all
- 10:36destroyed everything. But it's just the Brown family.
- 10:39Well, Mckelty wouldn't have to
- 10:40hang paper on her walls to decorate.
- 10:42She'll actually be able to paint
- 10:45Can you imagine how splendid that will look?
- 10:47It'll be a creative outlet for
- 10:49Oh. My.
- 10:50Gosh, and we do get to hear more
- 10:52coming up. So on the couch with the
- 10:56teenagers, Mckelty has fresh, freshly dyed red hair.
- 11:01Oh yes, bright red. Very red.
- 11:04Not so fresh that it's on her skin, around her face or
- 11:07anything like that, but it is fresh.
- 11:11Yes, and it is red. Like when you think I'm going to
- 11:14the supermarket and I'm going to
- 11:18That's the color, and I've had
- 11:21And I just have to say, I make
- 11:25for their hair in this TV show, whether it's the Browns or the
- 11:29guests or whoever. And I I'm right there with.
- 11:34That. If you look at me at this time
- 11:36period, I literally like, AM these people, which is why I
- 11:41don't feel so horrible tearing
- 11:45could pull up the proof and be
- 11:48myself for the same fucking thing.
- 11:49So I feel bad about it sometimes.
- 11:52And then I'm like, Nah, girlfriend, you're basically
- 11:54making fun of yourself. Same.
- 11:55I've had the black hair, the red
- 11:58blue hair. I've had it all.
- 12:01And so I agree when I'm making
- 12:04when I had red hair, it really
- 12:07face because it was, I was a teenager and it was like the
- 12:10acne was like ha ha, ha because of the red hair.
- 12:13Oh. Goodness, it's.
- 12:14Quite a look while they're at the cul-de-sac, there's a moment
- 12:17where they all are going to cheers to this momentous moment,
- 12:23to this significant moment in their lives, and they show
- 12:28pouring some sort of red substance.
- 12:31Cranberry juice? I'm guessing Unless you have a
- 12:33UTI or you're mixing it with vodka, you're probably not
- 12:36drinking straight cranberry juice, Yeah.
- 12:38It's been years since I've had
- 12:44did get my mind. I was going to say racing, but
- 12:47that's not true. It did get my mind moving at a
- 12:48snail's pace and I was like, this would be so funny if
- 12:52instead of it being cranberry juice, if it was actually wine
- 12:56and they all got fucked up, they're all wasted on a
- 13:00cul-de-sac. I'd be like, oh, that'd be
- 13:02great, but it didn't happen unfortunately.
- 13:04Another failure. Outtakes after the end of the
- 13:07episode, just them stumbling their way back to their four
- 13:10separate homes all the way from the cul-de-sac.
- 13:12From like half a glass of wine.
- 13:14Berb. But they don't come out and say
- 13:17during the show. We do know, based on Christine's
- 13:22They're going to be.
- 13:23So they're drinking, but they're
- 13:25It Yep, Yep, Yep, Yep. We go to Christine Dean's house
- 13:29again. Next, we're talking to Mckelty.
- 13:32Your favorite person? Love.
- 13:34Mckelty love Mckelty. Oh, and we're back to this dream
- 13:39of being a world class fashion
- 13:43Oh yes, I actually, you know what?
- 13:46I'm going to blame my current illness on Mckelty because in
- 13:49the last episode we were saying her name like Mckelty and I
- 13:56strained myself and I never fully recovered.
- 13:58So Mckelty, you have hurt me personally.
- 14:00You're just such an Angel, you're not used to using the
- 14:03demon voice. I just want it stated for the
- 14:05record that Mckelty is personally liable for my
- 14:08illness. OK, Thank you, Mckelty.
- 14:11Christine says you want to hone in on a teenager's dream.
- 14:15You want to encourage them, especially if their dream is to
- 14:18become a world class fashion designer.
- 14:22And you look like Mckelty. So that's what we call a big
- 14:27dream. So we call a really big dream.
- 14:32Yeah, they're going to be going downtown to meet Jennifer
- 14:36Henry, the fashion designer extraordinaire.
- 14:40Absolutely. Christine, Kody and Mckelty are
- 14:43going to meet this Jennifer Henry and see some behind the
- 14:47scenes action of what it really means to be a world class
- 14:51fashion designer. Now, honey, I want to ask you,
- 14:54how many Jennifer Henry pieces
- 14:58I think that I wrapped some chicken in a piece of cellophane
- 15:04yesterday, so maybe 1, Christine
- 15:10They're going to see the nuts and bolts of it all, and then we
- 15:14get there and they are putting
- 15:19yes. No, I for those of you who are
- 15:23like me and are going well, what
- 15:26Is it like plastic wrap that you?
- 15:28Wrap, plastic wrap type of thing.
- 15:30And it totally looked like it.
- 15:34that had been melted down into
- 15:38compiled into a dress, but different colors.
- 15:41Yeah, it's like thicker than Saran wrap, but kind of similar
- 15:47and it was neat looking. The dress was not hit like.
- 15:51If I just saw it. I would have been like, oh,
- 15:53that's interesting. Like I wouldn't have said it was
- 15:54terrible or anything. It took some sort of artistic
- 15:59mind to make it, and it took a
- 16:03You couldn't just whip that stuff up on your own unless it
- 16:06was maybe Barbie scale and then I'd be able to whip it up on my
- 16:10own. Oh, but honey, you're an artist
- 16:13as well. I am, yes.
- 16:15You know my miniatures are gorgeous.
- 16:18Oh God, you're miniatures. Mckelty has perhaps the craziest
- 16:24curls I have ever seen in my life with this fresh red hair.
- 16:30I don't even know how to describe them.
- 16:31You said before sausage curls.
- 16:35were different, I wrote down. I've heard banana curls.
- 16:37Mckelty curled her hair to the
- 16:40Oh yeah, to the 9.9999 nines. It was intense.
- 16:45It was another hairstyle that I definitely had myself before.
- 16:51It was way intense. It was intense and she's trying
- 16:54to be cute. She's going to meet a fashion
- 16:56designer. She thinks this is a big deal.
- 16:59If we're being frank, She got taken it looked like to me to a
- 17:06salon to have I just some photos
- 17:11dress. This lady was trying to promote
- 17:14her designs and probably got the connection through the show
- 17:18and make healthy thinks. This is a really big deal and
- 17:22it's probably just for a local magazine, and I'm not knocking
- 17:31off that it's bigger than it actually is, Right?
- 17:34Yes. Yeah.
- 17:35To. Tee up the setting.
- 17:37It looks like they're gathering in like a hallway slash back
- 17:42office. Like the basement of a college
- 17:47know. Then they get to a salon.
- 17:49At some point, they're showing, like, footage from what looked
- 17:55But I think they start out dressing her and then they do
- 17:59cuts to perhaps the area where they had done her makeup before.
- 18:05And it looked like a college student doing her final, and she
- 18:10had to go and take photographs
- 18:14And they said, yeah, sure, kid, tag along.
- 18:18That was the vibes. Yeah, that was the vibes.
- 18:20The dress. The cellophane dress.
- 18:23It was a dress of many colors,
- 18:27Technicolor dreamcoat or something, but it was a
- 18:30cellophane dress. It was a plastic prom dress.
- 18:33It was a plastic. It totally was, and it wasn't
- 18:36even one or two colors. It was multiple colors.
- 18:38Yeah, Each layer of the skirt,
- 18:42Rick racked with cellophane, like draped with different
- 18:47colors of cellophane. And the model comes out to get
- 18:52her little ass into this dress, and she's wearing a short white
- 18:57petticoat, which I don't know what that was going to do under
- 19:00the cellophane. Like that would lift that heavy
- 19:02of plastic. Nah.
- 19:04And then she's wearing a black
- 19:09into the dress and get help and what what occurs?
- 19:15They're going to get the models,
- 19:17and then they're going to be getting into a car and driving
- 19:20to a location to photograph. The dress.
- 19:23So the way that we're being introduced to this is like once
- 19:27again in this setting of where
- 19:30And then she's undressing to get
- 19:36which sounds it look just as it just, I don't even know how you
- 19:41try to do this. So there was multiple people
- 19:43trying to get her in this. And she's going to drive off in
- 19:46a limousine to location for photos.
- 19:49So apparently a limo is bigger.
- 19:50How are you supposed to sit in this fucking thing without
- 19:53smashing it to shit and making it look like trash?
- 19:56Why wouldn't you get in this on set?
- 19:58Like on set. Yeah, at the location it's a
- 20:02little weird little. They don't show her in the dress
- 20:10her bra and underwear just for this scene to get a reaction.
- 20:13That makes sense. There's no fucking way they put
- 20:15her in that dress there and then put her in a car and then
- 20:18took her to location. They never even show us her in
- 20:25These these fucking fakers. If you can't believe the
- 20:29producers of Sister Wives, who Can you believe?
- 20:31This is a significant farce, Kody.
- 20:35To use your own words, Significant.
- 20:37Kody's such a significant farce. You bastard.
- 20:41Oh God, so this is you're right because they're.
- 20:44Sorry, no, just had that realization.
- 20:46You're right, because they tee up this whole thing of Kody
- 20:50talking about how he has to leave the space because the
- 20:53model is getting undressed. And Oh my God, we get to hear
- 20:58more brilliant takes from Robyn because of course we need Robyn,
- 21:04So they're on the couch, and then Robyn starts to fill us in
- 21:07on this. Christine first says Kody left
- 21:12And then we go to the couch and we get even more gems from Robyn
- 21:25to be a gentleman, to be the kind of guy who would turn his
- 21:36Disrobes, disrobes. Disrobes.
- 21:38I'm like where does she get these random more than one
- 21:42syllable words and like why is she using them?
- 21:45She's so crazy. This is something that's been
- 21:47either like Straight said to her, or she's read somewhere and
- 21:55part of her regular vernacular. No, she literally had to puke
- 21:58those words out of somewhere other than her own gut because
- 22:08Says the man who said fuck in front of my 3 year old tonight.
- 22:12And my child proceeded to walk
- 22:13around saying it for like 5 minutes straight.
- 22:16Fuck. And I'm like, Oh my gosh, I'm
- 22:18just going to look at everything
- 22:22I'm like, Nah, don't worry about
- 22:23Yeah. Luckily, it wasn't long lived.
- 22:26I've said worse. It was a little like, oh, of all
- 22:28the things I just said, you picked up that.
- 22:31It's because it's Uncle Chris saying it, not Mommy.
- 22:33Because I say it probably too often and he just thinks you're
- 22:37so cool he wants to repeat it when you say it.
- 22:39Oh honey, you're so flattering.
- 22:41Leave it to the Funko. The phone uncle.
- 22:46Yeah, or the Gunko. The gay uncle?
- 22:49Yeah. And the Funko could also be the
- 22:51faggot uncle. Oh, it works.
- 22:52I like either one. Kody tells us that his kids pick
- 23:00It's like we know Kody. We know.
- 23:03They tased me for my modesty beliefs.
- 23:05Yeah, well, the way he says it is so dumb too.
- 23:08Like. And they say it right after each
- 23:13beliefs disRobyng. DisRobyng.
- 23:14And then he's such a gentleman. Like, does someone really think
- 23:18Kody Brown is a gentleman? OK.
- 23:21Kody also tells us that the model is being taken to Lake Las
- 23:29the shoot. They just simply couldn't, which
- 23:33She's not going to go sit in a
- 23:35limo in that dress. That'd be like me.
- 23:39I can't even think of anything
- 23:41It's silly. They're obviously teeing this up
- 23:45for a reaction from the family
- 23:52modest. The family Christine confirms
- 23:55with us that Mckelty did like the experience she did.
- 24:00And I was like, duh. But also now that I'm thinking
- 24:04it was all set up, I guess even if he she didn't know then it
- 24:08would be fine. I mean, she did seem to be
- 24:09enjoying herself. She's paying attention.
- 24:11She was engaged. So I guess, you know, that's
- 24:14probably a lot from a Kelty. Yeah, I'm sure she didn't know
- 24:16that they set her dad up for some of the scenes and her mom
- 24:20up for some of the scenes, but
- 24:25setup to get her there. I don't know, like, in what
- 24:28world your mom would be like a
- 24:32daughter wants to be a fashion
- 24:33I'm going to go and call around and I'm going to see if
- 24:35anyone's doing some sort of fashion things.
- 24:38Or there was like, an associate producer of the show that's
- 24:40like, we've got to set something
- 24:43And it's like, OK, Jennifer Henry, if we're wrong.
- 24:47And there is a photograph of this beautiful young woman, this
- 24:51model, in this lovely cellophane
- 24:57with a limo in the background.
- 25:01I'd love to see the footage. I'd love to see the shots.
- 25:05It took talent to make the dress.
- 25:07Not saying it didn't take talent
- 25:09True. I mean, I would fail at it.
- 25:11So you know, she succeeded at that.
- 25:14I would not fail at it if it was
- 25:17Just putting it out there. Got to give Kimber her wins.
- 25:21We cut to Christine's house, presumably on another day.
- 25:25She's talking at the camera. We get so much, Christine.
- 25:27I'm sorry, you guys, we get. This whole episode is her.
- 25:30She says that she got 71% on her
- 25:35initial failure, which is another failure.
- 25:38So she has failed her second test exam after failing her
- 25:41initial exam. I just want to say a lot of
- 25:44failures when it comes to what
- 25:48just because. You know, they're asking her for
- 25:50specifics, like what was the score?
- 25:54And she's apologizing to her children for not helping while
- 25:57she's studying. Yeah, I've been studying a lot,
- 26:00she says. She gives us an example of how
- 26:03Isabel asked her when she got home from school how she did at
- 26:07her practice test. And Christine says I failed at
- 26:11my quiz. And Isabel says, well, this just
- 26:15means you'll be studying again
- 26:18And Christine says nobody wants to fail.
- 26:22It means you have to study more.
- 26:25Again, Like, yeah, yes it does. No.
- 26:27One wants to fail after studying, but the point of being
- 26:34Like, if you're good at something and you enjoy doing
- 26:38something, you never really truly stop studying it.
- 26:40And so the fact that this is such like, homework for you and
- 26:44hard for you just goes to show me that this probably isn't for
- 26:48you. Not that people don't have to
- 26:50study and be like, naturally good at everything they do, but
- 26:54there's just something about this that feels like she thinks
- 26:58she needs to prove herself to people other than herself.
- 27:01And maybe she's not full like, heart in this.
- 27:05It's just weird. I'm glad you brought that up
- 27:08because I was questioning myself going, You know, Chris, other
- 27:11than your innate hatred towards Christine, why is it that you
- 27:14are struggling so much with hearing her talk about this?
- 27:18I was going to start with bitch, why are you so fucking dumb?
- 27:22I, I mean, honestly, if you are studying so much and you
- 27:26continue to fail at practice tests and the actual test and
- 27:29your kids are saying you're always studying and you're
- 27:32making it seem like it's the end of the world, it's like maybe
- 27:35this just isn't for you. I defaulted to Christine's a
- 27:39moron, but I might have been wrong.
- 27:41Maybe it's just not a good alignment because like you said,
- 27:48stuff that you're passionate about the learning process and
- 27:54fighting against 100%. There might be times of
- 27:57frustration where you're like, why can't I get this?
- 28:00Or like, oh, I'm disappointed in myself.
- 28:01But there's there's something about it that makes you want to
- 28:04keep trying and gives you like a passion and she doesn't have
- 28:07it, clearly. She doesn't have it, and the
- 28:10only reason that she keeps on going is because she feels that
- 28:13she needs to do this for the family for monetary reasons,
- 28:19basically, yeah. She tells us that later.
- 28:23If you're not even good at this to begin with, then how are you
- 28:26going to make money doing it? I don't know.
- 28:28The whole thing is just not adding up and it makes me feel
- 28:35it'll get her maybe some positive attention or some
- 28:39feedback from the family and she thinks since she put her mind to
- 28:44It reminds me of like a child that decides they want to
- 28:48practice the cello and it's maybe their 6th grade year and
- 28:52you get to choose between all these instruments.
- 28:55You pick the cello and you're dead set on the cello and you
- 28:59hate it and you're not being honest with yourself or your
- 29:02parents because you said you'd
- 29:07situation and it feels childlike, like a lot of her
- 29:11stuff does to me, feels very childlike.
- 29:13Yeah, like you pick the instrument in 6th grade and then
- 29:15by 8th grade you're like, I fucking hate this.
- 29:17And you're in band going. Or maybe if she's an orchestra,
- 29:20she's looking at another person playing an instrument going,
- 29:22oh, I wish I was playing that.
- 29:25times, I mean, at least my parents would have been like,
- 29:27well, this is what you're doing and you chose it and whatever.
- 29:28And it's like, that's terrible.
- 29:29Like give them a chance to change if they want.
- 29:32Yeah, I think that there's a happy medium between giving
- 29:34stuff a fair shot and getting past the hump of I'm just not
- 29:40good at this to the point where you're like, no, I'm really not
- 29:44into this. My mom was obsessed with the
- 29:47idea of me learning the piano and I hated it.
- 29:51I took piano lessons from the time I was six years old until I
- 30:02I asked my mom repeatedly if I could play the guitar and I was
- 30:05like, all I want is to play the guitar.
- 30:07And she's like, if you practice piano more, I'll get you guitar
- 30:10lessons. That never happened and I
- 30:13fucking hated the piano. And my mom has told me in my
- 30:17adult life now, I wished that I had done the piano when I was
- 30:21younger. And I'm not going to lie,
- 30:24there's a big part of me now that wishes I would have taken
- 30:30commitment on my parents behalf when they didn't have the money
- 30:33for it and I took it for granted.
- 30:35But I wish that they would have just let me quit and do what I
- 30:45her own dreams. She doesn't really know what she
- 31:03she's unsure of. It's it's kind of sad to me.
- 31:07And This is why I actually like Christine a lot, because I just
- 31:11think there's this true innocence and naivete about her
- 31:14and I just want to see her succeed so bad.
- 31:18I don't know. Also with the Janelle choosing
- 31:27assuming was an initial push from Kody of pressure for the
- 31:31monetary things, right. Like, you have to, we have to
- 31:33make money, we have to make money, we have to make money.
- 31:36And it's like it sucks when we all have that.
- 31:39Well, most of us have that in life where we have to do things
- 31:43that we don't aren't passionate about, we don't care about just
- 31:45to make ends meet or to pay for things.
- 31:47And that pressure sucks. I feel like that's a pretty
- 31:52universal experience. Very universal.
- 31:53I know it's like a little bit of a tangent, but I hope that
- 31:56people can relate to it because I think from a young age, we
- 32:00feel this pressure to succeed in things that we don't really care
- 32:08impress other people. And it's unfortunate.
- 32:10And if there's one lesson that I hope to teach my kids from a
- 32:15young age is that do things that you're passionate about.
- 32:18Don't do them because you think it's going to make, you know, me
- 32:24Like do what makes you truly happy.
- 32:26And these women have never been given that chance.
- 32:29And here she is still trying to do something for this family
- 32:33that's falling apart. And she even says, like, we
- 32:36moved the family with all these promises, all these promises of
- 32:40staying together, and that's not happening.
- 32:43And I just need another success. And when she says I need another
- 32:54a little bit bigger or something like that.
- 32:58And I was like, yeah, God, she needs another success.
- 33:01Her heart's in the right place doing all of this, but it's not
- 33:05in the right place for her. And I think that is something
- 33:08that I learned through her book is she's, you know, now in a
- 33:12place in her life where she's doing things for herself.
- 33:15So that makes me happy to know that she's at a place like that
- 33:19finally. But it's sad to see her striving
- 33:25about. But then she's taking her child
- 33:27to do something that she's passionate about.
- 33:29So it's like, yeah, there is this huge juxtaposition between
- 33:33her taking her child to pursue her dreams and then her trying
- 33:43Oh gosh, it's Christina. Tragedy.
- 33:45When she was wrapping up this segment, she was talking about,
- 33:48you know, needing the other success, but how the kids hate
- 34:00happening with her personally while she's also dealing with
- 34:04recognizing that the family is falling apart.
- 34:07And while it's been peppered in throughout the show, at this
- 34:11point, the last couple episodes, we've been hearing this.
- 34:14And this is the thing about this show that's so weird.
- 34:18It's like they say these things, we know these things, these are
- 34:21real things, blah, blah, blah. But then it's like, bump it up,
- 34:24bump, bump on to the next scene.
- 34:26And it's like you just said, your family is falling apart,
- 34:29your relationships are dwindling
- 34:31that your kids hate their lives right now because of their
- 34:34living situation. And then we're about to get
- 34:36whiplash. And then, Yep, now we're going
- 34:37to get whiplash and go to Robyn's house.
- 34:39It's like, oh God, And then we're going to be launching my
- 34:44sister last class. Thank you.
- 34:54I couldn't go for that high note, you know, it would have
- 34:56killed me. We're at Robyn's house,
- 34:58everybody. Yeah, unfortunately.
- 35:00And the web designer is coming
- 35:03website for my sister wife's closet.
- 35:06We've all been just eager with
- 35:10this. Now we do get a couple updates
- 35:13including the actual launch of
- 35:17of the jewelry which we will get
- 35:19Janelle tells us that my sister wife's closet was a fraction of
- 35:22the cost of the gym. You know, she's reminding us of
- 35:25this journey they went on, but
- 35:28hers. Which, you know, we know she
- 35:32didn't get her dream. Just like Christine's not
- 35:34getting her dream. There's a lot of dreams not
- 35:36happening here except for Robyn's dream.
- 35:38Imagine that Robyn gets her dream come true.
- 35:41Because it had a low start up cost, Christopher.
- 35:45And her, her drawings, her doodles were just so
- 35:48inspirational. The web designer's over, they're
- 35:51sitting around a table, there's a landing page, and then they
- 35:53launch the site and they show,
- 35:57footage of the I. It's so funny because I have a
- 36:00bit of PTSD about the, like, footage of the Google Analytics
- 36:05live tracking and like the way
- 36:08page and how there was the number of live visitors.
- 36:11And it's like 228-220-9232 and
- 36:17site, which, you know, we were, you know, kind of chuckling at
- 36:22because it's like they're kind
- 36:25like thousands of people knocking at the door.
- 36:27And it's like the footage they
- 36:31Yeah, I want to say it didn't get over 300, but.
- 36:34At certain points, 300 people are listening to this podcast at
- 36:37one time and you only see me dancing in the streets.
- 36:39I'm not like filming it, you know?
- 36:42I mean, you ask other people to film it, but.
- 36:45Dancing in the street. And of course, Robyn, you know,
- 36:50she's so smart. All these people are there and
- 36:53it's like, we're just standing
- 36:56And I'm like, why are you saying
- 36:58there naked? Like oh God, her correlations
- 37:02are just idiotic. Meri is like a whole bunch of
- 37:05people are looking, but nobody's
- 37:07There's no purchases. Yet yeah, no ones buying
- 37:10anything. We do get a little footage of
- 37:13Meri on her phone, Christine on her phone.
- 37:15It's like everyone's on their devices now at the time.
- 37:18Of course there's no mobile responsive website like I'm sure
- 37:22because they all live. They're like keyboard flip
- 37:25phone, like the, you know, phones that move up and down.
- 37:28They've got them sideways. Like they're probably looking at
- 37:30the desktop version of a website
- 37:32out what's going on. And Meri's on her phone.
- 37:35And as you said, no one's buying
- 37:38No, and Kody has to remind us this would be devastating
- 37:42financially. It would be an emotional set
- 37:44back is one thing, but a financial set back is another.
- 37:49And Meri's on her phone and she says people are saying they'd
- 37:52like to buy something without mortgaging their home.
- 37:57So I'm imagining that she's on
- 37:59You know, she's on social media somewhere getting some live
- 38:02feedback from people who are visiting the site and going, I
- 38:06can't afford this shit. One of them is what about real
- 38:09moms wanting to buy without mortgaging your house?
- 38:12And they kind of laugh and chuckle at it.
- 38:15And it's like, this is fucking
- 38:17afford your own home. And like, now you're getting
- 38:21this comment about your jewelry being expensive.
- 38:24And then, Oh my God, Kody. Kody's comments says.
- 38:30In my head, I wanted our pieces to be somewhat iconic.
- 38:34Oh, iconic. All right, Madonna.
- 38:38Do you think you are Madonna? You dumb bitch.
- 38:41Like no no no, there's no iconic
- 38:46of a TLC reality show and you're
- 38:49And wait till you see this trash.
- 38:51Oh God, they show examples of the jewelry and they are
- 38:55hideous. And Robyn says they are not
- 38:57cheap. They are sterling silver.
- 39:00That's the thing, That's the thing.
- 39:02They're sterling silver, that's the thing.
- 39:05And it's like, what are you trying to say?
- 39:07They. Sell sterling silver in gas
- 39:09stations. You're dumb.
- 39:10Oh. God, I'm like, I feel like you
- 39:13can buy. I, I, I, I don't know, but I
- 39:16think when I was in 10th grade, I bought my girlfriend a
- 39:19sterling silver ring from Kmart for like $15 and gave it to her
- 39:25and was like, you know, whatever.
- 39:26And I was like, is it real silver?
- 39:28And the person behind the counter working at Kmart was
- 39:31like, yes. Sterling darling, Sterling.
- 39:34It was definitely a lot nicer than this my sister wife's
- 39:37closet crap. Yeah, my high school boyfriend
- 39:40brought me a sterling silver with turquoise pendant at one
- 39:45point. No chain this is.
- 39:50So funny, but we're talking about high school experiences.
- 39:53These are fucking grown ass adults with children and all the
- 39:55things. Well they show us like this 5 LB
- 39:58charm of an S and AW that literally looks like a drawing
- 40:04ripped out of my 9th grade notebook.
- 40:06Yeah, it reminded me of like a
- 40:10It was a cartoon. From cartoons and made an
- 40:13southwest out of it and then with.
- 40:17Sharp edges for I don't know. To hurt yourself, but worry.
- 40:23Yourself after you spend all this money on their jewelry and
- 40:26regret it like. And the charm thing, the charm
- 40:30was like it reminded me of when someone has like a jumbo key
- 40:34chain and it has the big ass circle and there was like all
- 40:37these charms, it looked like it weighed 25 lbs.
- 40:40I'm like where would what would you even do with this?
- 40:42In the original sketches, when
- 40:46and you're like, well, let's give her some slack.
- 40:48Like I'm sure it's not going to look like the yeah yeah bitch I
- 40:52was. Having a fever?
- 40:53Dream like I'm sure it's not going to look exactly like and
- 40:57but we both said we were like who the fuck wants an southwest
- 41:00right on a necklace? Unless you're like initials are
- 41:05southwest, what the fuck. Very strange.
- 41:10The only reason you would want
- 41:12specifically is if Southwest was
- 41:15to you. And who's that?
- 41:17We learned that they did 28 orders on that first day. 28
- 41:22orders. 28 orders. While this is going on, I did a
- 41:26couple things caught my eye other than Robyn's fabulously
- 41:30designed jewelry. 1 is that Meri
- 41:35that is nuclear green. And I think when I said, Oh my
- 41:39God, the shirt's nuclear green, you said another thing.
- 41:41Chartreuse. Chartreuse, Yes.
- 41:43It was like a muted version of
- 41:48ago, whatever that was. Yeah.
- 41:50My hair color from our brat summer.
- 41:53Oh God. Oh I forgot about that.
- 41:57Must have been a trauma response.
- 41:59God. And so she's wearing this like
- 42:01hideous long sleeve shirt that
- 42:06is white, pretending to maybe not be white.
- 42:08So it might have maybe worked,
- 42:10She probably thought it made her
- 42:13She's like, it really brings up to Tanner and it's like, oh,
- 42:16honey, no, no, no, no, no. And with over that nuclear green
- 42:20shirt was this black spaghetti
- 42:25And in front of her was stemware
- 42:30And there was in front of Kody
- 42:31And I'm going, we're drinking orange juice out of stemware at
- 42:35our website launch while wearing
- 42:39ugliest jewelry you've ever seen.
- 42:41Like what is this? I don't understand a lot of the
- 42:46choices. Yeah.
- 42:47And This is why I don't believe that there's not any drinking
- 42:52going on. Like do you think who would do?
- 42:54This over. Well, also, but like, do you
- 42:56think they were like, well, let's make little mimosas for
- 42:59ourselves while we do this? And like, perhaps they were
- 43:03having actual mimosas and they
- 43:07we're just having like, basically a little fancy soda
- 43:11here or something. Like, it didn't look bubbly at
- 43:14all. But I also don't know.
- 43:18It just seems so bizarre. Janelle says, you know, we've
- 43:22got big homes for this business and I didn't understand what
- 43:27the fuck that was supposed to mean.
- 43:28I think she means like, we've got like a lot of money sunk
- 43:32into this and now we've got these big homes to pay for with
- 43:35this business. But she goes.
- 43:37We've got big homes for this business.
- 43:39Oh God, I missed that. And why did they even pull that
- 43:43as a sound bite? It's so dumb.
- 43:45Puddle Monkey. They're just terrible. 28 orders
- 43:52launch day with obvious promotion because Meri's like on
- 43:59this and promoting this. They launch and a launch day
- 44:02where you have multiple people
- 44:05Hawking their fucking nasty ass jewelry should be a peak, not a
- 44:10valley like the first day should
- 44:14have to have this as a goal to
- 44:15Like somehow we're going to get there.
- 44:17And it was 28 orders. That should be the most sales.
- 44:21Like, oh God, I'm not kidding you when I say this jewelry was
- 44:25ugly as sin. Like it's ugly and it's the
- 44:28dumbest thing and whoever hyped her up about the Southwest and
- 44:34the whole sister wife's thing as
- 44:41Like we said before, how many fucking people are sister wives
- 44:45in the real world and how many
- 44:48wives can afford this shit? Right.
- 44:51Yeah, people with two incomes and without a million children
- 44:54can't afford it, let alone someone who's like, stealing
- 44:57government benefits and has like, a horde of groceries in
- 45:00their basement. Strange.
- 45:02Unbelievable, completely unbelievable that they even
- 45:05thought that this was, I don't
- 45:09This is like the dumbest thing
- 45:12I don't know. We get to Christines house yet
- 45:16again for the 400 thousandth time this episode.
- 45:19This is Christine episode. And she is leaving for the real
- 45:25estate exam. She is walking out of that
- 45:28house, head held high, going to take the real estate exam.
- 45:32Oh yes. The rest of the family is
- 45:35patiently, quietly waiting at a park for the results of set
- 45:43exam. Well, when Christine's leaving,
- 45:44there is a funny clip with like Kody saying goodbye to her.
- 45:47She's walking out the house and he says, I don't remember
- 45:50everything he said, but one of
- 45:52a good day or something. And it was like totally a thing
- 45:55you say to fuck. It was so mindless.
- 45:58Like I'm like, dude, are you even aware of what she's doing
- 46:00and where she's going? He's probably thinking about
- 46:03either Robyn or how he might have to be somewhat responsible
- 46:06for his own children while Christine is doing this, and
- 46:09probably not even all of them.
- 46:12and it was it was just filmed as
- 46:16similar or like thereof. Totally could be a pickup.
- 46:19Interesting. Because it was really bizarre.
- 46:22And if it was a situation where she was actually leaving to do
- 46:25the exam, it'd be like give her a hug, a kiss on the cheek and
- 46:28say good luck, you've got this.
- 46:30Got this girl? Yeah.
- 46:32You're strong. You're a Kelly Clarkson song.
- 46:34You've got this. It's David.
- 46:36Christine so tall a lie. Oh God.
- 46:39OK. Oh, jeez, yeah.
- 46:41Christine gives us some voice overs, then while we're watching
- 46:49about how they've isolated as a family.
- 46:52They've isolated, isolated. It feels like we've failed even
- 46:56if it's not permanent. And I'm like, even if it's not
- 47:01failing. Once again.
- 47:02On the theme of failing, she says it feels like we're living
- 47:06separate lives and we don't need each other anymore.
- 47:09Yeah, it's kind of sad. She's like, I wanted to have
- 47:13these ladies to help raise my kids.
- 47:15I'm doing it alone. And gosh, I feel like I'm
- 47:20failing at that. She's failing at being a single
- 47:22mom. Well, when you didn't plan on
- 47:25it, it's. And you pop six of them out of
- 47:28Then you got to raise them by yourself when your husband's
- 47:31with another wife and no one's checking in on you.
- 47:34And we were just talking about this with Meri last episode.
- 47:38You said, why isn't Meri checking in on people?
- 47:41Meri's nowhere to be seen, nowhere to be found.
- 47:43Why isn't she like, hey, Christine, I know you're
- 47:45studying for that exam. Do you need a couple hours
- 47:48tonight? I can come over and you can even
- 47:52Yeah. Or drop the kids.
- 47:54Off here, whatever. Study in front of Janelle's fish
- 47:59I could help you because she's going to the gym at 4:45 in the
- 48:02morning and then her kids go to school and what else is she
- 48:05doing? I mean, honestly, these people,
- 48:06what are they doing with all of their time?
- 48:08But that's what makes me sad for her, her again, because she's
- 48:12like, I went into this thinking that these ladies were here to
- 48:17And gosh darn it, I feel like I'm failing at it.
- 48:20And you know, that's such a horrible feeling to go into a
- 48:24marriage or a relationship in general, thinking you have a
- 48:27partner and then feeling like your partner's not there for
- 48:30you, much less you go into a marriage with two other wives.
- 48:39And then you've brought in even another one that you were
- 48:42supposed to be OK with. You were supposed to be a
- 48:45welcoming and all of that with Robyn.
- 48:46Yeah. Where's Robyn?
- 48:47Who's she helping? No, she had this big kumbaya
- 48:51moment with Robyn. At that cafe restaurant thing.
- 48:58Yeah, that came and went. We hear down the Grapevine,
- 49:03like, externally, that it's because Robyn was talking about
- 49:08it to Kody and lying. But like, they don't address
- 49:11that on the show. So if you're a viewer watching
- 49:22Like she feels alone. What?
- 49:24And when I watched this show, however many years ago, and I I
- 49:28didn't see this show when it was originally airing, but I did
- 49:33And as a casual viewer, it's like I wasn't putting these
- 49:37pieces together and I wasn't, you know, going where is
- 49:41everybody? What is everybody doing?
- 49:43Because these statements, they, I don't know if it's just
- 49:45through editing. I don't get it.
- 49:46But there's these big dramatic statements about how she is
- 49:49failing at raising her kids on her own.
- 49:52She is separating from her sister wives.
- 49:54Their family is disintegrating. And it's like, these are big
- 49:59things and it's just treated so haphazardly.
- 50:02It's very bizarre. Yeah, she's talking about
- 50:05postpartum in other seasons and that's never even addressed
- 50:10either. And I think truly is 3 now, but
- 50:14you're technically postpartum hormonally and physically for
- 50:18like 2 years after having a baby and they're not being supportive
- 50:27Saul, but people should be extra supportive of the moms with the
- 50:32youngest. And it's just not happening.
- 50:34And I think that part of the issue here is obviously Kody
- 50:39pitting them against each other and lying, but that there was
- 50:45never this camaraderie from the get go and that each of them was
- 50:53already failing. Based on a made-up religious
- 50:56cult blah blah blah. Like it's all a House of Cards.
- 51:01Because even if like me and my
- 51:03best friend joined a commune together that was like this, I
- 51:09wouldn't be able to distance myself from her after she had a
- 51:12baby. I'd be like, right, what do you
- 51:14need? Or But now there's this like
- 51:17feeling of our kids are actually
- 51:22connections not happening. I I find it so sad and tragic
- 51:27and it just goes to show to me
- 51:32like this whole thing was forced
- 51:35And the, the, the examples that they point to, even culturally
- 51:39in the AUB or these other cults,
- 51:43they show are women that don't speak up, You know, they keep
- 51:48sweet, they're just supposed to fall in line.
- 51:50The husband does whatever and they're whatever.
- 51:51So these aren't healthy relationships overall, like just
- 51:55intrinsically. No, they're competitive.
- 51:57It's like pitting women against each other, like which one of
- 52:00you can get my attention and make me happy and keep me
- 52:05around? And it's the opposite of what
- 52:08you would think, where it's like
- 52:11supporting other women and instead it's pitting women
- 52:14against each other for one man.
- 52:17It's. Nasty.
- 52:18It's the whole thing's nasty, I mean.
- 52:20Colleen with AK tried to give us some insight and she was just a
- 52:24little rough around the edges. We do meet her again later in
- 52:26the show, so we will be reintroduced to Colleen.
- 52:29We'll learn more about her. Maybe she'll have a little bit
- 52:37was a little a little rugged. I doubt it, but I am excited to
- 52:41see how the hair has progressed.
- 52:42Oh yes, yes, Kody says we're taking the kids to the park to
- 52:47hang out while Christine takes
- 52:50And I have to laugh because in
- 52:54examples of failed instead of failed because of their Utah
- 52:59access failed. So he's like every time they
- 53:01talk about failed, failed, failed, it's like filled.
- 53:04It's not. Do you think she failed?
- 53:05Do you think she failed? Do you think she failed?
- 53:07It's like, Oh my God, they show them briefly at the park.
- 53:11What do you call that thing that
- 53:13A pergola. This is I wrote down pergola.
- 53:15No. Did I write down pergola?
- 53:17I wrote down gazebo because I thought a pergola had slats on
- 53:21the top. You're probably right.
- 53:22It's like, you know, it's like a
- 53:26It's like there's a roof and posts that are holding it up.
- 53:30People hate us. Really.
- 53:31People do hate us 'cause there's
- 53:33yelling at Eskimo Brothers. Shout out to my friend Kody,
- 53:37who's like, I was yelling Eskimo
- 53:41Damn. My gosh, it's so funny.
- 53:43And it's true. I mean like, I don't know what
- 53:44it's called. What I have to say to Kody, we
- 53:47can't all be Eskimo brothers. So the fact that you know that
- 53:49term, darlin, what do you have
- 53:52I want to hear that story. Tell us that story, please.
- 53:57I'll share that story after we're done recording.
- 53:59Wink, wink. Nod.
- 54:01Can't wait. Kody, don't hate me.
- 54:05Oh, Kody. Anyway, we're under the gondola.
- 54:10So they're under the gondola, yes, they're under the pergola
- 54:15that's solid roofed and they're just doing whatever, setting up
- 54:18food, blah, blah, blah. Fill in time, fill in space.
- 54:21Some people said some things, I didn't care.
- 54:23About Kody says her energy is kind of low, referencing
- 54:26Christine. Like oh, did he talk to her on
- 54:28the phone? Did he get a text?
- 54:30Her energy is kind of low, so I don't know.
- 54:32And then Janelle's like, I'm just, I she was just was really
- 54:35prepared this time. I know she was really prepared.
- 54:38And Robyn's like, well, I'm nervous now.
- 54:41And they're just kind of all going back and forth about their
- 54:44themselves. Their feelings about Christine's
- 54:46feelings. Oh my gosh.
- 54:48And then Christine walks up from
- 54:56tow and a wagon that's full of
- 55:02And who was the boy that was there helping?
- 55:04That's like truly is protector
- 55:09helping her come and then Mckelty was also with her.
- 55:14And I'm just thinking to myself,
- 55:18with her test results and they
- 55:23her. Like where was truly?
- 55:25Why is she bringing a literal wagon full of whatever was in
- 55:29there if it was food or supplies
- 55:32And you were totally right that she at least brought Truly,
- 55:35because Kody says like hey, true
- 55:38Yeah, come on over here like some bridged.
- 55:40Version of her name and it's like so truly wasn't there.
- 55:43So it's probably not even the same day.
- 55:45I this is it. Like there probably are elements
- 55:48of this episode that are either reshot or didn't happen in the
- 55:50same order or whatever and fuck that.
- 55:53I feel like Mckel T was probably
- 55:56then Hunter was texting Mckel T like we're here and then
- 56:00Hunter came to help get everything and bring him back.
- 56:04And it's just so lame. It's.
- 56:06Disjointed and dumb, and you set
- 56:12Did you fail? Did you fail?
- 56:15Did you fail? I fail.
- 56:16But, and it's like other reality
- 56:19things without us being distracted.
- 56:20It's like they think we as viewers are idiots and we're not
- 56:29Like it's dumb. I want to know what is truly
- 56:33going on, but truly going on with the trulys.
- 56:37What's truly going on behind the scenes.
- 56:39Because you've got Meri that's 10 shades darker in the face
- 56:43than the body. You've got these setup scenes
- 56:48that are haphazard. You've got fed lines to the
- 56:54kids. It's the start of reality TV in
- 56:58this era, but it's also past the start enough and we're into
- 57:04the fifth season, so it's just a little confusing that it's so
- 57:12haphazard. It's almost like I get the vibe
- 57:15from Kody in this scene that he showed up, he had a time, he had
- 57:20And it's almost like they're half assing it.
- 57:23So like the production company, they're half assing it because
- 57:26they fucking suck. But then why are you as the star
- 57:30of the show, as lead talent, particularly the adults?
- 57:33Why aren't you walking up with
- 57:34What? What is going on here?
- 57:35Like why are you? Like why aren't you going to
- 57:37help her? Haphazardly participating in
- 57:39your own television show, it's
- 57:42And then all of a sudden, out of
- 57:44goes. I passed.
- 57:50No, I'm. Telling you it's that crazy that
- 57:55all of a sudden she just says that like it's like a
- 57:57conversation like we're having
- 58:00I passed, yeah. Kody's like what happened is she
- 58:02goes, I passed. And then they're eating burritos
- 58:05or tacos or Taco salads or something.
- 58:07I don't even know. I'm like, you just set up this
- 58:10entire episode to lead up to this moment, and then that's how
- 58:14you have her announce it just as
- 58:18there. It's like.
- 58:20Very weird. The rain in Spain falls mainly
- 58:23on the plain. I don't even.
- 58:25Know it's hard to even comment
- 58:28going on? Like these people, even the way
- 58:31they were talking about it, they
- 58:34was totally a pickup. This was something because, you
- 58:37know, when Janelle's talking about it, she's like, I don't
- 58:39know, I feel like yeah, she probably, she tried really hard
- 58:41and whatever. And Robyn's like, they're just
- 58:45talking yeah, like they're just like talking like not even in
- 58:47the same. There's that whatever vibe that
- 58:51happens when you actually are anticipatory, right?
- 58:53If someone's coming with some news, you're like, Oh my gosh,
- 58:56like what's it going to be? And that was completely missing.
- 58:58The kids were like bored, like
- 59:02She's showing up with her child after waiting for these
- 59:05results. And that's why I'm saying it's
- 59:13rain. It's rainfall mainly on the
- 59:15plane. Like she'd like, they asked her
- 59:16to say this like 500 times. They're probably like.
- 59:18Could you tell us you passed again?
- 59:20I passed and then they chose that as the clip.
- 59:25That's the best thing, yes. That's why I'm like dying about
- 59:29it. Like, Oh my God, Eliza, do a
- 59:32little much, but we get to the couch with the adults.
- 59:37So then this transition also backs up our suspicions here
- 59:41that she says I passed. There's a few cutaway shots to
- 59:48even anything happening. It's like she said I passed and
- 59:50then it was like, that's that.
- 59:52wrap up the episode. We get a moment alone with
- 59:56Christine speaking to the camera, solo interview and
- 1:00:00Christine. Is talking about how she has
- 1:00:03been thinking of this moment and
- 1:00:07home and getting that check and thinking what debt can I pay
- 1:00:12off first with this check and asking the family what debt
- 1:00:16needs to be paid off first with my first big check.
- 1:00:21And she says that to the camera.
- 1:00:23And then they go to the family on the couch, the adults on the
- 1:00:28couch, And we've got Robyn. No, I'm not going to go.
- 1:00:33And we've got Christine, and we've got Meri, and we've got
- 1:00:39Janelle and we've got Kody. And Christine is reminiscing and
- 1:00:54Well, she starts out by saying that she was thinking about life
- 1:01:03alone so the kids have to pick up the slack.
- 1:01:06I feel like we are feeling as a family to translate that, she
- 1:01:11says. I feel like we're failing as a
- 1:01:18We're not a support system, and that's frightening.
- 1:01:22Frightening. It's really sad too, she says.
- 1:01:29I didn't have the support from my sister Waves.
- 1:01:33I feel like we're failing as a family right now.
- 1:01:37Sorry. We haven't gotten together a lot
- 1:01:43finally coming to terms and like saying how she feels and outing
- 1:01:50the reality and nobody knows what to say.
- 1:01:54Except for Meri comes in, which is.
- 1:01:57Bullshit. I wouldn't go so far as to call
- 1:01:59us a failure. We need to continue working on
- 1:02:04towards things that we want. It's like like a wet bar.
- 1:02:07Like a wet bar, Like Meri, where are you?
- 1:02:09What are you working on? This is up until this point I've
- 1:02:19Talking to strangers on the Internet?
- 1:02:21Oh, well, we just need to keep working towards what we want.
- 1:02:26And Christine's trying to drop these hard truths and no one is
- 1:02:30willing to hear them. And you've got Kody's eyes
- 1:02:34rolling so far back in his head that I don't think they're ever
- 1:02:38going to come back from hell. No God.
- 1:02:40And she goes, I wanted to pass for the money.
- 1:02:43I wanted to be sure that we could afford these houses and be
- 1:02:49And that's just so sad. Like what we're saying earlier,
- 1:02:53it's not about her passion for wanting to do this.
- 1:02:56It's not that she's enjoying it. She's not studying it and
- 1:03:00learning it easily because she doesn't give a fuck about it.
- 1:03:03She's doing it for the money and it's very hard to learn about
- 1:03:07something when you don't care about it.
- 1:03:09Right. And also to almost like catch up
- 1:03:15Like they've made these choices, they're buying these homes,
- 1:03:18they're doing this stuff. And she feels the pressure to
- 1:03:21not only make this happen in the future, but to like, we've
- 1:03:24already started this and I have to catch up.
- 1:03:27Like I've got to make this happen and fuck that unnecessary
- 1:03:33herself as like a side character for so long and now she's
- 1:03:38getting like that main character energy and nobody knows how to
- 1:03:46interview that are hard hitting and no one knows what to say.
- 1:03:52I think they're shocked that she's coming.
- 1:03:54Maybe she's had a cider before the interview.
- 1:03:56Yes, she even says she goes. I wanted more than a husband.
- 1:04:01That's why I chose this life. And then Kody's got these shifty
- 1:04:12No. God, not his fat chin.
- 1:04:14It's like a restating of her tagline from the show.
- 1:04:18I wanted Sister wives more than a husband.
- 1:04:22I needed the support and that's why I chose this life.
- 1:04:25I don't want to raise these kids
- 1:04:28It's been 2 years of me doing that.
- 1:04:30She says I don't reach out and
- 1:04:35either. That's not what I signed up for.
- 1:04:38And now we realize why she's so red nosed.
- 1:04:42From the cider. She's angry from her anger.
- 1:04:45She's got the cider in her and
- 1:04:49she's worked up and she's a pale
- 1:04:56the nose and we're mad and she's
- 1:05:00I applaud her for the truth bombs that she's dropped this
- 1:05:04entire episode and nobody had anything to say.
- 1:05:10And you can tell Janelle is soaking it in.
- 1:05:13They show Janelle looking at her
- 1:05:16Janelle is legitimately the only one not worried about covering
- 1:05:21their tracks and their ass. Being defensive.
- 1:05:23And she's the only one that's,
- 1:05:27is. Kody's got his eyes rolling back
- 1:05:30in his head, and he's shifting
- 1:05:33really quickly, OK? Like, he does this weird thing
- 1:05:36where he's looks back and forth really fast because he's trying
- 1:05:39to see and gauge who's realizing
- 1:05:42to have to spin next. And then Robyn's like
- 1:05:48comprehending it still. She's like 10 paces at least
- 1:05:51back, probably 1000 paces. And then Meri's trying to defend
- 1:05:56and cover up because she's doing
- 1:06:00back. It's like you can see it on
- 1:06:02their faces that they don't know
- 1:06:05they're all hiding something. Absolutely.
- 1:06:08I mean no one has anything to say.
- 1:06:10According to this edit, they don't show anybody saying
- 1:06:13anything except for Meri, who basically has a defensive.
- 1:06:18Pretends to defend. It austerity, right?
- 1:06:20Like, well, I don't think that
- 1:06:22Superficially. What do you mean you don't think
- 1:06:24we're failing? Like, Oh my God, you're clearly
- 1:06:27failing. We.
- 1:06:27Just need to keep working towards the things that we want.
- 1:06:29Yeah, right. Like anybody could fucking say
- 1:06:32that. Oh my God.
- 1:06:33Anybody could come off the street and feed the.
- 1:06:35Stranger that knows nothing. Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:06:38I feel like it's quite dramatic,
- 1:06:43I don't know how to describe it,
- 1:06:47I'm going like, is it really all
- 1:06:49But it doesn't go anywhere. This is it.
- 1:06:51There's no resolve. There's no like next steps.
- 1:06:52There's no nothing like that was
- 1:06:54Because they leave and go their separate ways again.
- 1:06:57Right, so now the episode's going to wrap, and we as viewers
- 1:07:00are going to go about our lives until next week when we come
- 1:07:03back and they're on their next
- 1:07:05And in their lives, it's the same thing.
- 1:07:09Christine talks about that in her book.
- 1:07:10They come together for these couch moments.
- 1:07:11And that was like the closest thing they had to real
- 1:07:14conversations, which is on a set
- 1:07:18therapy. And then?
- 1:07:19You leave producers and then you next time you see each other is
- 1:07:24when you're going to film something and there's a crew
- 1:07:27there. I think this episode really
- 1:07:30portrays one person screaming out for help and everyone else
- 1:07:41And it's funny because now in reality TV nowadays, nobody be
- 1:07:50for the drama, for the. Show yeah, the producers would
- 1:07:57That's why it's so you like, it's so cool doing this rewatch
- 1:08:01to me because it's like mind blowing how much reality TV has
- 1:08:05changed. It's mind blowing that this is a
- 1:08:14different situation. And we're seeing it fall apart
- 1:08:22pretend to fight for it. And I didn't get that at the
- 1:08:26time when I was catching episodes here and there.
- 1:08:29Right? Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:08:30And now I'm like, this is so blatant and in front of
- 1:08:34everyone's faces. Like how could you not see the
- 1:08:39And also, there's an element of where they started being cult
- 1:08:45members. I'm saying started as a family.
- 1:08:48Yeah, and where they broke off?
- 1:08:50Right, So they're they're fundamentals as fundamentalists
- 1:08:53like they literally were living a life that had a lot of
- 1:08:58denials walls up, we don't address things, passive
- 1:09:02aggressive behaviors, etcetera.
- 1:09:04So that was like how they were underlying started and
- 1:09:07Christine, you know, as they reference in becoming sister
- 1:09:12wives, you know, she was the she saved their bacon, according to
- 1:09:16Kody, like she probably brought a brevity.
- 1:09:19She. Was she was lighthearted and she
- 1:09:25then and and that worked for them in a way where they kind of
- 1:09:32And then when Robyn joined, it was at the same time as they
- 1:09:35were started filming a show and it just, I just feel like they
- 1:09:46And I think she was naive. I think she was raised in a
- 1:09:52polygamy situation that wasn't abusive.
- 1:09:54And so she had these rose colored glasses on and then, you
- 1:10:03She has these other sister wife come in and slowly like her rose
- 1:10:15anymore. She's learning who she is as an
- 1:10:17individual. She's learning that she has
- 1:10:19autonomy as a woman. And I'm seeing her changing in
- 1:10:31her in this episode very, very heavily, and the keep sweet
- 1:10:36thing is just falling apart for her.
- 1:10:41Yeah. And it's fascinating.
- 1:10:44It's morbidly fascinating. Morbidly, Like I'm morbidly
- 1:10:49obese. Not to detract, but I just had a
- 1:10:56Meri has been tossing around
- 1:10:59this like teasing people about
- 1:11:01But she's very merry, right? Like this?
- 1:11:05A. Decade, Like what the fuck, Meri
- 1:11:08Meri, if you're writing a book, I have a working title for you,
- 1:11:12Not keeping sweet or no longer
- 1:11:16So Christine, if you're going to
- 1:11:18y'all cult members are going to be writing a book, something
- 1:11:20about not keeping sweet, No longer keeping sweet, I won't
- 1:11:23keep sweet. That's the title of your book.
- 1:11:26I want to hear Janelle's story, and I know that Christine's
- 1:11:30been encouraging Janelle to write a book.
- 1:11:32I want to hear Janelle's story
- 1:11:36that was so different and she was convinced of this life.
- 1:11:41And for a while on the show, I
- 1:11:45that was like still convinced of
- 1:11:48And then she's like wavered and I, I'm very curious about her
- 1:11:56story. But I think of the OG 3 she's
- 1:11:58probably still the one that is
- 1:12:03in current seasons which you have not seen.
- 1:12:06She doesn't speak I'll of being in polygamy.
- 1:12:10But some could argue that she's like the most, and I hate to
- 1:12:14say it, abused of the group because she didn't have any
- 1:12:18sort of role model for polygamy and didn't come from it.
- 1:12:22So she was shocked and manipulated and didn't know how
- 1:12:26to act and thought she couldn't speak up and was confused and
- 1:12:31thought she was doing the right thing.
- 1:12:32Was probably the most scared to leave because she had to prove
- 1:12:36everyone wrong in her life. And I think that there is
- 1:12:41something in her history before the marriage even happened to
- 1:12:45make her get there. Because she says I didn't know I
- 1:12:49could speak up. I didn't know I had a voice.
- 1:12:52So it makes me think that there's something from her
- 1:12:54childhood, from even before that, just in the Mormon
- 1:12:57religion or in her family, that made her feel like she didn't
- 1:13:01have a voice. Because usually you don't think
- 1:13:05you have a voice in this religion because the first wife
- 1:13:07is the voice and the husband is the voice above the first wife.
- 1:13:11But she didn't come from that,
- 1:13:16wife idea hanging over her head.
- 1:13:18Does that make sense? Yes, I guess I just.
- 1:13:22Something with her dad, you know, her dad, Her dad died when
- 1:13:28I can't. Caretaker or can't?
- 1:13:31Undertaker. Undertaker for the family.
- 1:13:33And then she married Meri's brother and Meri's from a
- 1:13:36polygamist family. They just didn't do the polygamy
- 1:13:40I, I'm not saying that she, I think that you're right that
- 1:13:44she, I would love to hear her story, but I'm saying today I
- 1:13:47think she's the one that's probably the least, It doesn't
- 1:13:53story. No, I don't think she'd be OK.
- 1:13:57Give her 20 years and I want to hear her story.
- 1:13:59I don't think she'd be honest yet.
- 1:14:00I think she would hide A lot still.
- 1:14:02I want to hear like the honest, raw truth.
- 1:14:05Like, why did you marry Meri's brother?
- 1:14:07Why did you divorce him? Why did you decide that this
- 1:14:11life was the one like? And then why did you marry your
- 1:14:14ex sister in Like, there's so many things.
- 1:14:16If I'm being honest, I think that there's something about
- 1:14:21sexuality that happened there in the first marriage.
- 1:14:24Whether it's her sexuality or his sexuality, there is some
- 1:14:28underlying thing there that nobody probably still knows
- 1:14:31about to this day. But I think that there's a lot
- 1:14:38could learn a lot from it. I think she's a compelling
- 1:14:42person that she's kind of kept clammed up and kind of she's
- 1:14:46spoken out here and there and she portrayed herself as the
- 1:14:50strong one that made a lot of money, that handled the
- 1:14:53finances. And then I think slowly that
- 1:14:57idea crumbled. But she has been more of the
- 1:15:01Stoic 1 so. I agree.
- 1:15:03I think there would be some interesting things to unearth
- 1:15:06there because there's a lot that we don't know.
- 1:15:08If she would be honest about it, and she doesn't have to be, she
- 1:15:11doesn't owe anybody that. She doesn't owe anybody that.
- 1:15:14Interesting to learn down the road when she's comfortable with
- 1:15:21Oh, right. Wow.
- 1:15:22Well, what an I love how this episode was like primarily about
- 1:15:30You never know what you're going to get on this.
- 1:15:34Academic process, like a box of chocolates.
- 1:15:37I can't afford them because my name's Robyn, but you never know
- 1:15:47seed and shit stain. Now normally I allow you, I ask
- 1:15:51you to go first because. You allow me, You ask me.
- 1:15:55Usually I ask you to go first because I was raised a proper
- 1:15:59gentleman and my mother, you know, should be proud of what
- 1:16:02she did. Well, no.
- 1:16:04OK, Never taking that all back. Ordinarily, I ask you to go
- 1:16:09first because I'm a good person. Because you're scared to tell
- 1:16:13your truth. You're trying to keep sweet over
- 1:16:19you're going to do, because I'm scared.
- 1:16:21You need a leader. You need a leader.
- 1:16:24So I'm going to go with my mustard seed and my mustard seed
- 1:16:31first? I don't even care about this
- 1:16:33episode. It was primarily about
- 1:16:34Christine. All right, I'm going to go
- 1:16:36first. Can I jump the line next?
- 1:16:41I give you permission, little woman.
- 1:16:44I give you permission, woman. You can go first.
- 1:16:47You so much. You can go first.
- 1:16:49I'm going to give my mustard seed to Christine.
- 1:16:51It's because she was honest, but also it's because she was a cool
- 1:17:02her, all right, if you want to do this career, like let's go do
- 1:17:10doing the complete opposite and doing a career that she
- 1:17:14obviously wasn't passionate about, she still wanted more for
- 1:17:29And she took Kody along to pretend that he was a part of
- 1:17:33it, even though he wasn't. So all the power to you, sister.
- 1:17:40agree. OK about that mustard seed.
- 1:17:43I'm going to give my mustard seed to little Isabel because
- 1:17:47Isabel guilted Christine for not
- 1:17:51she was studying her test. And while I do think the vibe of
- 1:17:56this episode was that we're supposed to support Christine,
- 1:17:59I'm not drinking that kool-aid.
- 1:18:01I'm still going. Fuck yeah.
- 1:18:03Isabel, Guilt. That mother who's ignoring you.
- 1:18:09Terrible.
- 1:18:10Terrible. To be real, who else gets a
- 1:18:13fucking mustard seed? Who?
- 1:18:16Nobody. Nobody.
- 1:18:18The excavator for finally breaking ground.
- 1:18:21Here I was going to selfishly take the mustard seed on this
- 1:18:23one and you took it from me and it was the only person who
- 1:18:26could even get one. Well, had your tongue or
- 1:18:30something? I don't know why you're taking
- 1:18:32so fucking lot. Because I literally just did not
- 1:18:35want to give it to Christine. That is funny.
- 1:18:37Like there was only one person
- 1:18:39wouldn't give it to her. What is wrong with me?
- 1:18:41You. Could have given it to Mekelty
- 1:18:43for seeing her passions through,
- 1:18:47going to happen. Honey, that would be a lie.
- 1:18:50OK, so shit stain, darling. And if you take what I was going
- 1:18:54to say, then I'm just going to
- 1:18:56podcast. Oh my God, shit stain.
- 1:19:00My shit stain is going to go to Meri.
- 1:19:05Because I think she started reading the comments about the
- 1:19:09Sister Wives jewelry thinking it
- 1:19:12realized very quickly that they were people, like truly being
- 1:19:17like, what the fuck is this? And then she didn't know how to
- 1:19:20backtrack. So it's like, OK, you dummy,
- 1:19:24why'd you do that? Second of all, she tries to make
- 1:19:32this comment through Christine's
- 1:19:38wouldn't call this a failure, like trying to pretend like
- 1:19:41she's going to save this conversation and it just
- 1:19:46massively fails and doesn't make sense.
- 1:19:49And thirdly, because we have cultural appropriation to a
- 1:19:54whole new level here with complete and utter change of the
- 1:20:05And I'm just so confused by her choices in makeup, in life, in
- 1:20:19I don't understand it. You know, Meri's attempt at
- 1:20:24devaluing or invalidating Christine's opinion, which?
- 1:20:26She's done before, which she does, proudly, proudly.
- 1:20:30Yeah, is in itself a failure. So it's like, fuck you, Meri,
- 1:20:34you fail. Like Gross.
- 1:20:36But the chartreuse shirt, she thinks that she's really cool in
- 1:20:43She's earning a shit stain. Her.
- 1:20:45Face is kind of like a shit stain, yeah.
- 1:20:49Fucking help this lady please.
- 1:20:52help her, which is my shit stain, Robyn Brown.
- 1:20:55Wow, she probably is the one encouraging Meri's look.
- 1:20:59She's like, you look great, Mayor.
- 1:21:01Yeah, Robyn is getting my shit
- 1:21:05stupid things that she said in
- 1:21:08that different for her, but you layer on top of that her trying
- 1:21:12to make Kody sound like he's a
- 1:21:15Oh, Oh yeah. Looking away while a woman
- 1:21:18disrobes and Hawking that terrible, terrible, terrible
- 1:21:24jewelry. The Estavia.
- 1:21:26And making it seem like everyone
- 1:21:30behind hers, which is honestly kind of bizarre that it ever
- 1:21:34even came up because it's like, did we ever hear about Robyn
- 1:21:37dreaming of being a jewelry designer?
- 1:21:38Like it just kind of came out of nowhere.
- 1:21:40Well, she had a dream. Well, no, that's right.
- 1:21:43She had a dream, and now she's producing said jewelry, selling
- 1:21:47it at such a high price that no one wants to buy it.
- 1:21:51And she will continue to ride this terrible, terrible train
- 1:21:55into shit town. Meanwhile, her £5 sterling
- 1:21:59silver WS will cut your chest if you.
- 1:22:03Even if you try to wear it, her jewelry will injure you.
- 1:22:06It will cause bodily harm. You'll pay way too much.
- 1:22:10Allegedly, allegedly, allegedly. If you buy it secondhand, this
- 1:22:18know. Our keep sweet moment this week
- 1:22:21comes from. YouTube and it is from Tonya
- 1:22:25Carter, 72. Tonya Harding.
- 1:22:27Tonya Harding, 72. Dang, now?
- 1:22:30It Tanya Carter, 72, says this intro is everything.
- 1:22:35Laugh emoji OMGI love your podcast.
- 1:22:38You guys crack me up. Keep up the diabolical review of
- 1:22:45You 2 are my mustard seed. Oh, I can't believe someone said
- 1:22:58I feel like I'm a success. Christopher yeah, my mustard
- 1:23:02seed is going to go to you. Oh, because the intro is fucking
- 1:23:18Thank. You for wishing me Happy
- 1:23:21Mother's Day, Tanya, push that seed deep, deep inside of me.
