- 0:00[SPEAKER_02]: This episode is presented by Yahoo Fantasy.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I was gonna say I didn't know if you were a throw pillow guide and know what I said before I before I started dating my wife.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't even know it throw pillows were and soon found out that they're not actually pillows.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: They're just for decoration.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think right?
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: What's your setup like that?
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like if throw pillow means you throw them off the couch when you're sitting down.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: Is that what they mean?
- 0:47[SPEAKER_02]: When you go to sleep, I would assume right?
- 0:49[SPEAKER_02]: You just throw them on the on the floor.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_02]: What a first world problem that is.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_02]: So, all right, let's say that the Brear family's hosting, right, and when you host, especially when people have kids, so here's the deal.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think if you host when you have adults, you can throw everything into your room and close the door.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_02]: And expect that no reasonable adult is going to walk into your bedroom for absolutely no reason, especially if the bathroom's not there.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_02]: If you coast and there are kids involved, we have learned the hard way, like we've had like, eight team kids at our house.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_02]: They will go in every room, right?
- 1:23[SPEAKER_02]: And they will explore, they will, um, someone, uh, like carved and earing into, uh, the camera got mad about it either.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_02]: No, you can't, but you have to clean your room.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: So let's say the brears are hosting, there's kids over.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_02]: And so the bed is made in like full regalia.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_02]: How many pillows are we talking about on the bed?
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm my better home in here.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, at home.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: So I would say, so I think it's like three on each side, my side and hurt side.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: And then one, each.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then like one circular one in the middle.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I actually just sleep on one.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: I have like this like foam memory pillow, the memory foam pillow.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: Then I have like a hard time.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like when I'm on the road, it takes like three pillows.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like I've to take like all the pillows from the, you know, like the pillows from the other side of the bed to replicate the memory.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: Pillows are the weirdest thing in the world because it's.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_02]: It really affects your weight.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_02]: It really affects your sleep.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_02]: And when I say like, I have bought, I have purchased every pillow in the world like not every pillow in the world, but like I did the memory foam thing.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_02]: I did like the black, you know, whatever, sort of black beauty rest, all that stuff.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: The one pill that I can sleep with is like,
- 2:40[SPEAKER_02]: It's it's the size of like a small gift bag and I've had it since college and it's just like I've had to like I just keep a pillow case around it and it's just like I have to wash it all time because it's I mean I've had it forever, but it's like I need that one.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: You've had the same pillow since college though, because I think that college I could pass out anywhere.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_02]: See, I think I just had it in college and then I took it to my first department.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_02]: Like there was never a conscious decision for me to go out and be like, oh, I'm an adult.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually a game.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you just naturally became like kind of addicted to this wrong word.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what the word would be uncomfortable.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: Reliant.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_02]: Reliant.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: Reliant.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: That's a good one.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_02]: But so I needed an L. I need that pillow to lay my head on and then I need another one.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_02]: almost to just like hold on to.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: And that one doesn't matter.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_02]: But when I'm on the road, it's a struggle.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_02]: Like to the point where there's Ben camp trips where I've brought the pillow.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I bring now, bring the pillow.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: When we go on our two-week vacation over the summer during the break, then you talk and I bring my pillow there.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: You have to.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: Because then you just start changing your sleep.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the lot of the
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: the problem with the pill like my the memory foam pill is actually pretty heavy so it can become a luggage problem you know what I mean like if you got a really big bag I put it over weight if you got a small bag you're trying to carry on you know might keep you from packing enough so the memory foam pill because of the heaviness of it is a little bit of an issue to travel with but like if I'm going to go on a longer trip I'll take it
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: I should just, you know, I would have taken it on this trip, but I, I already have, I already have to pack so much.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_02]: You run the risk of losing it to it, and then what happens?
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: And then that's like, then you're gonna, then you get a real problem.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_02]: Then you're zero dark thirty to spin this forward briefly.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_02]: We're gonna actually talk about NFL stuff in a second, but I remember talking to a, like, performance coach for an NFL team that now is doing other stuff, but
- 4:44[SPEAKER_02]: sleep was like his whole frontier because when players went to the hotel the night before the game and this was designed to get them away from distractions and get them that good rest they actually slept worse in the hotels the night before the game because of what you're talking about they weren't around their pillows they weren't around their girlfriends they weren't around their wives they weren't around all the stuff at home that made them comfortable and helped them fall asleep on a regular basis and so he had all these wild tricks like um
- 5:13[SPEAKER_02]: even down to finding out what perfume that the guy's wives wore and he would spray them like on their pillows and stuff like that.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's insane.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_02]: And so, you know, like sleep, whatever.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's slightly overblown.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, no, but I'm dead.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: It makes me wonder though, doesn't it?
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like makes you wonder because like I
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I remember it was Chip Kelly and Chip brought a lot of stuff to the NFL.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: People don't even talk about it anymore.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: But it was, yeah.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: It was the first time I remember going, you know the screens that are up in a team facility, right?
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll have the schedule on the screen for the player, right?
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: And that was the first time I had ever seen an NFL building.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: It had sleep on the schedule.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_00]: right, and it was like, I think I think they may have gotten reported to the union for it because it was like you're not supposed to schedule out.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: But it was being done for the players.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: And so like that was sort of a new thing then.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: And now it makes me, it does make me wonder about some of these teams that go away and stay in dorms.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: You know what?
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like, because it's like, I get the, I love, I love the concept of teams going away.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: I agree with a lot of it.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: But there is that part of it.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like, where you go to the outro, you go to St.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: John Fisher.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: You go if you're the Rams here to Loyola Mayor amount and you're staying in a dorm room.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, I remember digging into that with the Steelers at one point, there is a mattress rental company in La Trobe, Pennsylvania that does great business every summer because the Steelers, because the players, I think they have a day where they come out to the Steelers facility and the spring and the players sign up to rent mattresses from them.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's fascinating.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: But I think it's an important, especially as you get older, like I feel how I sleep every day.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: If I sleep good, I feel good during the day.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: If I don't sleep well, I is sort of a fight to get to the next night.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm currently where you sleep horribly.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: You can't go back to bed.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's like, man, I just got to get myself to ten o'clock.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 7:27[SPEAKER_02]: I guess.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think on the other way, after the third kid and actually kind of enjoying staying up until like three o'clock in the morning to do the last feeding and just watching whatever I wanted on Netflix, I'm kind of back in college mode where it's like, whatever happens happens.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, wait.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: Just wait.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: I have a little more experience on this one than you as you'll see.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_02]: Probably will land there.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_02]: It just so happens that Albert is on this training camp tour and he happened to swing by all these stops in California right around the time of exactly what we're going to start talking about, which is I think it was like a day after we recorded our last show Mike Parsons requested trade and
- 8:09[SPEAKER_02]: It started kind of in breadcrumbs.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_02]: You had Diana Racini basically reporting that, oh, he was browsing the nuclear manual.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_02]: And then ten minutes later, Mike and Parsons just slaps down like a thousand word trade request on his notes app, which means you know that he's thought about this because he spent time, he's sitting there, he's writing down.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if he got an editor on it, Mike, if any of these players guys, if you need someone to actually write this for you, you know, we are here and we'll do that.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_02]: We can help out.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_02]: But my thing is Albert and it just goes back to every other time that this has happened.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_02]: I love the fact that Mike Parsons is trying to out Jerry Jerry.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_02]: I love the fact that he's not like a Zekio and he's just going to go hide in Cabo until this all blows over.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_02]: He's taking the fight right to the star.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_02]: The issue is that there is no recourse.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to start losing money.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to get franchise tagged.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to get franchise tagged again, and they're not going to let him go.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_02]: They're just not.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think it's, um, this is the first one for me, Connor.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, sometimes you like listen to crazy takes out there, and you think to yourself,
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm in the trenches.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm covering this.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: I know these people.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: You on the talk show are a moron.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm finally like have come around on the Jerry is doing this for show idea.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like I finally got myself there where I actually think that and Jerry would never admit it.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: But the more people you talk to there, the more it's, well, there's one guy who has the answer to where this goes.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and I'm talking about people inside that team, high up in that team, like there is one than who has the answer to one this ends.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: And that person's very Jones.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, when I was reporting on this over the weekend, I started to dig in to how did this act Martin negotiation go two years ago.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: How did the CD lamb negotiation go last year?
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: How did the deck negotiation go last year?
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: And what I found was
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: The pace of those negotiations was sort of similar to this.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, where it got to training camp and it was radio silence and when the team was in California, which they come out here for almost a month every summer, there was nothing.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: And then at the end of this summer, talks picked up, and a deal got done, and the cowboys were one of the biggest stories of the summer, because of the holdout.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think this aside benefit for Jerry.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's either, we do the deal at the beginning of the off season and I get a good deal or if I can't get the deal I want, then I'm going to make you pay.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to take a dollar out of my pocket until I have to and I'm going to make the cowboys the biggest story of the summer.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: Because if you think about it, like, if Mike of Parsons does his deal in July,
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: We're not really talking about the cowboys that much this summer, right?
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like they aren't.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm always talking about the cowboys.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: Don't give me a wrong answer.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's the cowboys.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I like what, I'm maybe they're in the A block of first take regardless.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: But I think it's more like dumb stuff like, you know, what's Dak Prescott's legacy versus like a real news story, which is what this is.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know, so Jerry has effectively made them a story.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: And there's this, you know, there's a professional wrestling element to this.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: But there's this, there's this clip from the Netflix trailer.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, have you seen the Netflix trailer, Connor?
- 12:03[SPEAKER_02]: I have not.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: No, because there's clip in the Netflix trailer where he says something along the lines of, this is like, this is the greatest soap opera ever or something like that.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I think there's an element of that for Jerry, you know?
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: So he has control over his workforce.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: He's not going to take a dollar out of his pocket until he needs to.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: He is going to, and these are the biggest, and why does this only happen with the biggest stars by the way?
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like, there wasn't a big fight with Jake Ferguson, was there?
- 12:37[SPEAKER_02]: Trev on digs, right?
- 12:38[SPEAKER_02]: You know?
- 12:40[SPEAKER_02]: Like, and that was just got done, you know?
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, so like, why is it only happening with the biggest stars?
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, why is he negotiating with the tight end, but he's not negotiating with the past Russia?
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: I get it.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_02]: What though?
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: is, I'm telling you.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'm skeptical.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: Look on your face like you think I'm crazy, which is how I thought everybody was.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm finally there where I think that this, I think there's an element of this for Jerry, where it's about the show.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_02]: No, because I agree with you.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I did, uh, when
- 13:17[SPEAKER_02]: when deck press got was up for his first big deal.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I went all the way back to when the Cowboys had Landry, right?
- 13:26[SPEAKER_02]: And this was a part of their organizational philosophy going back decades.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_02]: There used to be a public access Cowboys show when Landry was the head coach where I think they were in like a contract to speak with the player and they listed his address on the show so that people could go to his house and like
- 13:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like that was a thing that happened and Yeah, I mean it was crazy But this has been part of and do you know the texture am I have you heard the texture am what was the texture am line?
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: So for people don't know a cow who's a cowboys president forever.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: He's right I think he's more or less the creator of the American's America's team brand, right?
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: him and NFL films like work together on like creating what America's team was.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: So they weren't a fight.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: The owners and the league was they weren't a fight with the union.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: And Jean-Upsha was the was the union executive director at the time.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: And or maybe maybe he was still playing as the union president.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was like late seventies early, eighties, something like that.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: And text ramps to the front of the room and said y'all don't understand.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: You're the cattle on where the ranchers.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: And imagine it's going to happen today, but like it is sort of the better organization, like there's that there's the history behind it too, you know.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_02]: In order to is though, I always feel like in Dallas to culturally and I've tried to find a way to say this the right way that doesn't
- 15:02[SPEAKER_02]: There is, and going back to texture him, and that attitude, right?
- 15:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think that Jerry still conjures that where I think in the South, it's a little bit still more of, you know, there is that old fashion attitude, and you could call it whatever you want.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_02]: I call it right now a little bit insulting in terms of whether it's Jerry trying to negotiate privately with players away from their agents to make it seem like, you know, they don't know any better, and he's going to trick them, or
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: that these players should just take the money that I'm giving them because they're lucky to be here.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_02]: Like, there's a lot of that undertone that I think still plays and maybe Texas or other places in the south that other, you know, other places have evolved to recognize as inappropriate in some way, shape or form, right?
- 15:48[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that there's still a red meat portion of that cowboy's fan base that accepts and probably agrees with Jerry Jones that like,
- 15:58[SPEAKER_02]: make a portion should play for ten dollars in a ham sandwich because it's amazing to be a Dallas cowboy right right and I again like I think the drama of it and everything else I like I don't
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like the one thing I had the one thing I have a really hard time seeing is Jerry Jones trading away a star.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's not gonna do it.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_02]: There's no way.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_02]: There's no way.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: You have to blow him away.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: And even then like just having talked to people there and I know, I mean, obviously, I was a team.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: I was on that beat.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I've known a lot of people there for a long, long time who are really smart people.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think it would be hard to go get someone who's going to
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: Give you the sort of value that Mike a parse is brings now at the same time there is the element of it the flip side of it that you know the cowboys I think know they're not a player away.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: You know so it's if you're going to do this and if you're going to pay him and now you've got.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: What's the number?
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: It would be like a hundred and forty million at the end of the day, right?
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: Per year tied up in three players in DAC CD and Micah.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: So that's half your salary cap.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_00]: Now I know there's a new money equation and everything else and there's different math you can do.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: But there's a big chunk of your salary cap's going to be tied up in three guys.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there is some question about that, but I just have a hard time seeing
- 17:21[SPEAKER_00]: the cowboys walking away from a star of that magnitude at a position like the one that that might replace.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's my favorite time of year.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_02]: The NFL season is almost here in fantasy football season is in full swing.

- 18:54[SPEAKER_02]: Trey Hendricks and James Cook, Terry McLaren, Micah Parsons.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_02]: These guys are all gonna play for the respective teams this year.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_00]: I know that that seems surprising to you, but I'm not gonna bother you with a potential destinations post.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's just like every time.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_02]: And it's so funny too, because I have friends.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: It annoys me more than almost anything, is that.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_00]: It annoys me.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: The amount of the receivers of the worst, though, aren't they?
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: Because every fan base feels like they need another receiver.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: And there's help and basically doesn't think that he's another receiver, maybe the Bengals, but anyone else.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, if you're if you don't think that you need Mike a Parsons, you are high off your ass.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_02]: If you don't think that you need tray hundreds and you are high off your ass, like, of course these players would be great.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_02]: Like a Micah Parsons trade destinations post should be thirty two teams long and it should just be everybody offering their first two.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_02]: Like you know who could use Micah Parsons?
- 20:04[SPEAKER_02]: The goddamn giants and they have three great pastures and they could still use Micah Parsons.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_02]: But here's the thing, there is more media, there's more attention and it works both ways, right?
- 20:16[SPEAKER_02]: Where Jerry Jones is getting whatever he wants, I guess out of this training camp period.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_02]: So is Mike a Parsons.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: So is Terry McCleuron.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_02]: So is Trey Hendrickson where his absence is then something that can be talked about and discussed and he can be sitting right there as an all-pro while the rookie trips over himself and defensive drills and you know over the first couple weeks of the preseason doesn't look good.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_02]: That is your remaining bit of leverage that you have to play.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_02]: That's your last card right you're down to your last couple chips and Texas hold him.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_02]: Here's how you can try to figure this out and make it work.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_02]: I will say this though.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_02]: of all of the holdouts.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_02]: I do think that Micah is the most likely to miss games.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what your thought is on that.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and it's Smith missed two games in nineteen ninety three.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: Jerry didn't care.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: I sort of have like the Trey Hendrix and one in my head as the one that's like,
- 21:13[SPEAKER_00]: The most unpredictable and volatile, maybe that's because he just like picked up, you know, picked up in a half and and left and like road trip down to Florida from Ohio after.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I didn't like the different negotiations.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: But like that one's interesting though, because I also from what I understand on that one, the average per year, like the big number.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: is like upward needs to be now.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: So I think they're, I think they're not that far off.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's the guaranteed structure that's the problem.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, that weekend, right before, I believe that was right before training camp.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: Right before they, right before their training camp started, there was momentum towards a deal and then things just completely fell apart on that Monday.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so like that's the one to me where it's like, I mean, it almost feels like that one's gotten personal.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: I choose have a hard time seeing my comiss games.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I'm wrong, but you know, I I feel like that one's going to get done.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_00]: I just feel like that's it.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's I think we're going to look up on September first and here he is, forty five million dollars a year and a cowboy for life.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's what didn't DAX sign his hours before the, it was some round game two years ago.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was Sunday, no, it was last year.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: It was, and it was, yeah, the Browns.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_00]: They were playing the Browns, because that was Brady's first game in the booth, right?
- 22:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, was Sunday morning deal.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_00]: And then I think CD was August, twenty six, there's something like that.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_00]: And then even Zach Martin was like, end to August, and he held out.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, they've been, this isn't their first rodeo for sure.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_02]: But you think like Brent Shutton, I'm her hair like, for that sort of thing.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_02]: This is like, I would like these guys to practice.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I'm saying though, it's like, that's the thing about it is that like, this has happened so many times now.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_00]: And the whole thing, it's just in every one of these cases, it is the same.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's like radio silence during training camp on negotiation front, right?
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not radio silence from the standpoint of like, we're not hearing anything.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's radio silence from like, there's no communication between the agent and the team.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: and you know so I you know look like every one of these guys is handled it a little bit differently and Micah I think Micah is the first one the reason why this is so jarring for everybody's Micah is the first one who's like actually publicly detailed the process but I I don't think it was his experiences that this similar from the others for you guys I mentioned I mean the I don't know what you want to call it like the
- 23:50[SPEAKER_02]: the outline of the contract is pretty clear.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, look, yeah, you are the highest paid non-corder back in the NFL.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_02]: That's currently held by TJ Watt at forty-one million dollars a year.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: And Miles Garrett, Miles Garrett reset the market.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like he was a real market chef because he went from worst chase.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: Chase was at thirty-six, right?
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: Jamar Chase was at forty point two-five.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_00]: Was he forty?
- 24:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for average for average annual value, he's forty forty point two.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, forty point two five.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: So Chase was forty got Garrett was forty and you have what if forty one.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_00]: So there's no, there's no even argument anymore.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 24:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's where the market is.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_00]: And anybody who's watched, you know, five plays from Mike a Parsons knows what he's in that ballpark.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's in that stratosphere.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: Now is the question, uh, you know, you can talk and I don't, it's in the locker room and that there's definitely some stuff there with him, but as far as what type of player is, there's no question.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm saying a mic is end is it.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to just reset the market.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_02]: I want to blow this thing out of the water.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I don't know possibly, but he wanted to he wanted to approach the Cowboys last year.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what makes this whole thing with Jerry interesting.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_02]: And like, so I'll circle back to your final point.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_02]: Like, let's say that
- 25:19[SPEAKER_02]: Jerry Jones did engage with Mike a Parsons agent last year, and that would have been before the Miles Garrett deal, before the Jamar Chase deal, before the, you know, maybe like right after the Max Crosby extension.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Max Crosby was this year.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: So it was Max Crosby is this year.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_02]: So I have to be after Justin Jefferson.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: The Nick Bosa.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: was the top guy right for the first half of last year at thirty four and then Jefferson top to mid thirty five and both have been done the year before.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_02]: See you're talking about now.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_02]: the difference between, let's say anywhere from thirty six to forty million dollars a year for a contract versus and maybe Mike would have gotten the nice round forty he would have been the first guy to get like forty oh one or whatever it is now you're talking about the difference between that in forty two million dollars and forty five million dollars like somewhere around there a year and I think like is it that worth it
- 26:23[SPEAKER_02]: Is it worth that much to him is what I'm saying like for the Cowboys to be the story if you're the best like Is this just something that you like and this is a tax that you're paying or are you?
- 26:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know five million dollars worth of attention.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: This is a theory.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_00]: This is a my my theory putting the pieces together here is what Jerry you're either gonna do a team friendly deal in March Or we're gonna make you wait
- 26:49[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to make you wait all the way until the deadline.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: And the deadline is a start of the season, right?
- 26:55[SPEAKER_00]: The deadline for them isn't the start of camp.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: The deadline is a start of the season.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: So if you want to do it on our terms, we'll do it early.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: if you want to do it, I mean, and this actually goes back to like Des Brian, I believe, got his big deal on the day of the franchise tag deadline, if you remember.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: And now it's years and years and years ago, but like, you know, like, there's a history of this that if you want, if you want market value from the cowboys, then you're gonna have to get in the mud with them and you're gonna have to wrestle it from them, you know?
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: like I so I think that that's what this is is that Jerry approaches the player in March looking for a team friendly deal and if they can't get a team friendly deal like Tyron Smith was if you go back and look I think the Tyron Smith deal was like relatively non confrontational but it was like a very team friendly deal was a ten-year deal that he probably shouldn't have signed yes
- 27:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I think he had some financial issues at the time, too.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_00]: That gave the team some leverage.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: Zach Martin.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: His deal was done a little earlier, but Zach Martin gave them term.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like so, a lot of people don't understand is like the longer deal, like that's a team, like going to six and seven and eight years, I heard my girl urban suit give Mike a part since a ten year deal.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: That would be a terrible idea for Mike a part since you know what I mean?
- 28:18[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_00]: I want to shorter deal if you're a player.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: So Zach Martin gave them, I think, six years on the extension, so they did it early.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_00]: But if you want the deal on your terms, then you're going to have to go right to the deadline with them, which is what Michael Parsons is doing.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'm looking forward to it.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_02]: Do we know if Brady has their first game again?
- 28:38[SPEAKER_02]: Probably.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_02]: Who do the Cowboys open the season with?
- 28:41[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, because they're in the kickoff game with Eagles.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, of course.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_02]: Why didn't we see it?
- 28:50[SPEAKER_02]: God damn it.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_00]: Mark, Mike, a person signing the Monday before the Thursday opener.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: And then you've got, then then Jerry's got the storyline of Willie player, Willie, not play for the week.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_00]: I guess, I mean, all, or Bradshaw, never.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is great for Netflix, isn't it?
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Netflix, Netflix documentary, I think, I think that's less than two weeks away now.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_02]: Can you watch any of that stuff, honestly?
- 29:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I heard the access they got was freaking out standing.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_02]: We've talked about this though.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I have friends who, you know, we were hanging out yesterday from the neighborhood, never almost like, oh, you started watching quarterback and it's like, no, man, I'm not.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, this is, and it's not, it's not because I get why people like it, but it's just like,
- 29:48[SPEAKER_02]: What else do we possibly learn about?
- 29:53[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I think I'm at my threshold in terms of access.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_02]: And what is access?
- 30:00[SPEAKER_02]: Like, the only thing that we're not seeing these guys do now is take a dump, you know?
- 30:04[SPEAKER_02]: It's really, it's really like something.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: I can see my teams aren't annoyed with it.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like, why some owners are annoyed with it?
- 30:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't know.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_00]: I would say,
- 30:17[SPEAKER_00]: I've talked to the guys, some of the guys who were involved in quarterback and I think there were some arm twisting that happened.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_00]: But I think all three of them came off pretty good.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_00]: I watched a good bit of that.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I think there is some benefit, but it is to the point now where it's just, I mean, look, I'm interested to see what the bills look like on hard knocks because they are a pretty private organization.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_00]: And Sean McDermott runs a pretty buttoned up operation.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like the novelty of it's completely gone now, you know, right.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_00]: And the way I look at it is these are just like pieces of content that the league is trying to sell, you know, because the NFL operates like it's a private equity firm now.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: I just, uh, you know, can we scale it, Connor, that's the, can we scale access?
- 31:11[SPEAKER_02]: Can we scale, can we scale access?
- 31:13[SPEAKER_02]: I'm, I'm there to scale it.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_02]: I just want to watch like someone solve a murder on Netflix.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_02]: I just, I can't sit down and be like, I'm under with Jared Goff's thinking.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I just, you know, it's just not in my watch.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_00]: So I watch quarterback with my kids because my kids, my boys wanted to watch it.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_00]: And so Emily got into it too.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I will say watching that with your wife is a good experience because she'll notice things you won't.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_00]: So this is the one thing that she noticed that that I never would have.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: She noticed that Jared Goff let the quarterback people end to his house a lot and you almost never saw the inside of Joe Burrow or Kirk Cousins house.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: That never would have noticed that.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: And then I said, I was like, well, Joe Burrow's house got wound up getting broken into.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe that's for a bit, right?
- 32:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then Kirk Cousins house kids and the other two don't.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_00]: That could give some pulse that, but if you watch it with your wife and she's telling you, if you watch it with your wife, she'll pick up on stuff you wouldn't have noticed yourself.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's interesting.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_02]: I still don't know if I'm ready to try it, but I like the idea that maybe we'll also find out.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm only wound up liking all three of them too.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: And she really liked Perl.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_00]: She thought Perl was a really interesting guy.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's something that Emily and I have in common.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think that would be my judge earlier.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_00]: I love Joe.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think Joe is one of the most interesting people in football.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_00]: Great family all that.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_02]: I have to tell you about this game-changing product I used before a night out with drinks.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's called pre-alcohol.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_02]: Zbiotics pre-alcohol probiotic drink is the world's first genetically engineered probiotic.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_02]: It was invented by PhD scientists to tackle rough mornings after drinking.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_02]: Here's how it works.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_02]: When you drink, alcohol gets converted into a toxic byproduct in the gut.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's a buildup of this byproduct, not dehydration that's the blame for rough days after drinking.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_02]: Pre-alcohol produces an enzyme to break this byproduct down.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_02]: Just remember to make pre-alcohol your first drink of the night, drink responsibly, and you'll feel your best tomorrow.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_02]: Guys, I brought this down to our summer fest handed out to all my friends and
- 33:31[SPEAKER_02]: Everyone was just at the top of their game all week.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_02]: No matter how much fun they were trying to have at the beer tent, going out and getting drinks or whatever, everyone was looking great and feeling great.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_02]: So believe me, it's the real deal.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_02]: The final days of summer are here for you to enjoy whether you're headed to the beach camping and the woods are squeezing out one last vacation road trip.

- 34:30[SPEAKER_02]: Let's take a quick spin through some of your training camp stops here because I'm interested to hear what you have to say.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_02]: Notably, because there's a lot about Bonix in the news today.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_02]: You have a great piece on Sean Peyton, Bonix in your takeaways.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_02]: Sean Peyton thinks this guy is going to be an absolute star.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_02]: You are with the Broncos.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_02]: Tell me a little bit about this.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_00]: So what I really like about it was, so this goes back to last year.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_00]: The conversation I had was Sean about Nick's and about how the rest of the league's on Nick's.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I learned at that point, the Broncos had, and this is not revisionist history, by the way, this is before either a guy played a game.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_00]: The Broncos had Jaden Daniels and Bownex as the top two quarterbacks in last year's class, which I don't think very many people did, right?
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: Well, what's the result?
- 35:23[SPEAKER_00]: The result tells us those two guys, now a couple of them haven't played yet, but those two guys were by far the best quarterback, the best rookie quarterbacks, right?
- 35:31[SPEAKER_00]: Right here.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_00]: So I was just sort of interested to talk to Sean about like how he evaluates quarterbacks and
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: If you go and read the piece, you'll see there's a bunch of analytics they went through on NICS.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_00]: I thought the most interesting thing stuff he said was about SACS.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_00]: And he said to me, SACS is a quarterback stat.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone goes and says it's the lines fault.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's, you know, and it's a way of scapegoating other people when the quarterback is at fault.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_00]: He's like SACS is a quarterback stat.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_00]: He's like Brady never had high SAC stats.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_00]: Peyton Manning never had high stats and then his own guy, he's like, you couldn't get to breeze.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, he said to me, he's like, what sacks are is for the quarterback.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's instincts.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's processing.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's ball out.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's not how fast you are.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's how well it's how efficiently you move.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: And so he had someone, he had one of his analytics guys.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think the guy named Tony Lazzaro had one of his analytics guys go back and look at the last thirty years and said, can you find me a quarterback who had high sack numbers in college and then didn't in the pros?
- 36:44[SPEAKER_00]: And he couldn't find anybody.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like correlates almost almost, he said a correlates very closely.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm college to the pros.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_02]: Bad news for Caleb Leam's fans.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so I thought it was fascinating and he said, you know, who were the top two in our when we did the sex study, who were the top two guys?
- 37:04[SPEAKER_00]: Jaden Daniels and Bonix.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_00]: Coming out of college.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought that was to me at least.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you never think, when you, when you think of a quarterback being sacked, you're like, he screwed him.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_00]: He imported enough good enough line in front of him, right?
- 37:20[SPEAKER_00]: But then you think about it, and you're like, well, Peyton Manning at one point lost Terry Glenn.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_00]: It was like the franchise left tack on Indianapolis.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_00]: And they had like a revolving door at left tackle for a couple of years.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_00]: But his sack numbers were never high, right?
- 37:35[SPEAKER_00]: Tom Brady's same thing, like his tackles were go down, like the ball just came out quicker.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: So I just thought it was a fascinating thing.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just like, he told me Sean told me he's like, well, as such a good natural feel for the position, he's playing the position.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_00]: He's not just an athlete.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_00]: And he was like, he's bigger than people think.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_00]: He's a better foot athlete than people think.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_00]: He's got a way stronger arm than people think.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_00]: But he's that the main thing is, like if you watch him, he's playing quarterback.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_00]: And then the sack number is a function of a guy who's playing quarterback.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_00]: He's not just going out there and throwing the ball.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_00]: He's good.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_00]: He's playing the position.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_02]: I am, I found out last night that I have the number one pick, which I hate in my big money fantasy league, and I have been looking at Bonyx's kind of the fail-safe QB option in terms of like, I think he's gonna be there, and I think he's gonna throw like, thirty touchdowns.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_02]: And so this makes me feel better, because I hate the first overall pick.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_02]: First overall pick, it's the best.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think, I don't think Bo got enough credit for last year either, to be honest with you.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_00]: This is just my opinion.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_00]: This isn't like I'm not, this isn't just because I just spent time with the Broncos.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's a lot of the quarterbacks who were great early in their careers had really great players around them.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_00]: Bonax has like a solid group around them, but where is their superstar?
- 39:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like where is his, he killed a Patrick Mahomes?
- 39:02[SPEAKER_00]: Where is his stuff on Diggs to Josh Allen?
- 39:05[SPEAKER_00]: Where is his, right?
- 39:06[SPEAKER_00]: Mark Andrews to, to, to Tomar Jackson?
- 39:09[SPEAKER_00]: Where is that guy?
- 39:13[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he doesn't exist.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's why they took a running back in the second round of the draft.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_00]: Right, quarter of the sun's pretty good.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_00]: They're offensive on pretty good, but like he played really well.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_00]: And he played really well without an all start team around and that's the other part, you know?
- 39:29[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, so, but anyway, I just access a little backstatt as my lesson of the week.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_02]: All right, you know what, Sean Peyton does know how to pick him.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_02]: So I, the bonus thing, I think it's one of those that it would be an, I call it an, of course, moment, just like I did with Aaron Rogers last year where if everything succeeded, you would have said, of course, this team is good.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_02]: They have Aaron Rogers and they've all these awesome skill position players of team fell apart.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's, of course, they did, because Aaron Rogers is forty-one in coming off tour in Achilles, and you know, the average age of the roster is like thirty-seven.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_02]: Bonaix was the same way where you came out of college as the NCAA completion percentage record holder.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_02]: He was twenty-five, and if it worked out, you'd say, of course it did, because this guy is so experienced in Boba, Boba,
- 40:21[SPEAKER_02]: It didn't work out.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_02]: You'd say, of course, it did because this guy got kicked out of Auburn wasn't good enough to play for Auburn, had to go to Oregon, had a good offensive coordinator for a year, and then, you know, made it to the NFL.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_02]: So I think it's one of those things that
- 40:34[SPEAKER_02]: if you land with a good coach, you guy who knows how to do it, like Sean Payton.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_02]: I think you got a shot.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_02]: And Bonax certainly has a shot.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Daniels had a similar story, didn't he?
- 40:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like Arizona State didn't really work out for Jayden Daniels, right?
- 40:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I mean, I think if he had declared after his, when he left Arizona State after his junior year, if he had just gone to the pros, he would have been what, like a six or seventh round pick.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't think.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_00]: Michael would have been on drafted at Auburn.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know, so,
- 41:03[SPEAKER_00]: like I don't know like I just think like that volume of experience and everything else and I think what those guys would tell you too is like playing so for for Jaden for example like playing at Arizona State where you aren't always on the best team you know what I mean and like it's not like an Ohio State or an Alabama or even like a USC you know on where you know in ninety percent of your games
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like your receivers are better than the DBs, your offensive linemen are better than the defensive linemen.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of the plays are just going to work as drawn up because the team is better than the guys in the other side.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like being in a situation where you have to figure it out and you have to be the best player in the field to make it work.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_00]: That's good experience too.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then he goes out and I'm leak neighbors and all those guys and dynamic changes, but he at the the Arizona State experience like that's part of why like he knows how to just figure it out out there, you know.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_02]: I want to touch on just a couple of quick hits from the teams that we did not talk about from your tour, San Francisco Vegas and the Rams.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_02]: You had a chance to talk to Gino Smith about Chip Kelly.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm always going to direct the topic of conversation in this show towards Chip Kelly, my favorite coach in NFL history, my favorite coach in college football history,
- 42:28[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so excited that he's back in the NFL with an actual chance to succeed.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's he's in line to take over for Pete Carroll if he wants to or to just be like the resident because he said he doesn't like being the head coach is too much stuff to deal with.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_02]: I think he could just be like the resident offensive guru genius for the rest of his career there.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_02]: There's so many potentials here for Chip Kelly.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_02]: We've talked a lot about the
- 42:52[SPEAKER_02]: the maturation of Kelly at Ohio State, you outlined that really well.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_02]: I thought during the college football season, we brought it back during the podcast and people can read about that in your takeaways.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_02]: But what I'm curious about Albert is like, how did it look?
- 43:06[SPEAKER_02]: Because I know that Gino mentioned to you in your takeaways, which you guys can read at side.com.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_02]: The balls coming out fast again.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_02]: We're getting the ball out quick.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_02]: What did it look like to you when you were there and you got a chance to see it practice?
- 43:19[SPEAKER_00]: So this is kind of like an interesting anecdote, right?
- 43:21[SPEAKER_00]: Because I was sitting with a couple of other guys later in the day.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, man, like the offense looks smooth and efficient.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_00]: And one of the guys said to me is we're sitting there.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was our sloppy estate of training camp so far.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_00]: And so like that kind of hit me like, wow, like, like, do you know how to throw to Jacobi Myers at the end of practice that was like a seam rat down the middle?
- 43:46[SPEAKER_00]: And it just looks so smooth the way the play ran.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it was just
- 43:51[SPEAKER_00]: All right, like Gino snap sees it balls out like decisively thrown down the middle of the throwing down the scene for a touchdown and the offense wins.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think they were in two minute drill at the end of practice and it's just there's a there's a flow and a
- 44:09[SPEAKER_00]: and an ease to the way that the offense is playing.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_00]: Now, are they good enough, like, player for player, maybe not yet?
- 44:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the receiver situation is going to have to work itself out.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think Tray Tucker becomes an interesting weapon for them because I don't think he's had somebody
- 44:26[SPEAKER_00]: As a quarterback with the ability to get him the balldown field and every coach that I've talked to who's had trade Tucker there has said like oh my god we're excited in the different ways we can use him and he's so explosive.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_00]: So that's a name to watch.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think Gino's arm strength might unlock trade Tucker a little bit.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_00]: So he's one to watch Jack Bass who they drafted out of TCU.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_00]: We got to figure the receiver situation out.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_00]: But the line should be better.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_00]: And now we have the Colton Miller thing taking care of Dylan Parham.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's going to be a really good guard for them.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_00]: DJ Glaze is somebody they like.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_00]: And then they have Gentie and Bowers.
- 45:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of the guys they can build the offense around.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_00]: And they think Janty is going to be like a true three down back.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_00]: So they've got enough and you watch like the way that the offense operates and how just there's a rhythm to the way they play and it doesn't mean just playing fast because I think there's that stereotype and you and I talked about the difference at Ohio State last year.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_00]: They were the slowest moving offense and college football and it was intentional.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_00]: And they've been, they've used pace in different ways now.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: But there's just like a rhythm to the way that the offense worked.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really excited to watch.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I can still remember that first game for Chip Kelly.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was in Washington, right?
- 45:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like in in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, where
- 45:48[SPEAKER_00]: It looked like the Eagles had no idea.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_00]: Or it looked like the Redskins at the time.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_00]: I had no idea what was coming and just had been slapped upside the head with with like just the sort of shot that you had no idea where it was coming from.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I wonder if it's going to be a little like that early with teams dealing with Chip Cali this year.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_02]: In San Francisco, I want to read a passage for everything.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_00]: But it's going to open.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's really interesting.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, for sure.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, this is a team that I think everybody in the NFL is just going to kind of have a side eye on.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_02]: And as fast as information travels now from coordinator to coordinator, how easy it is to digest, I wouldn't be surprised if everything that chip does on a weekly basis is on a playlist for other coordinators, just to check out.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_02]: And they obviously get their first crack at that in New England.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_02]: San Francisco, I want to read this paragraph because I think that
- 46:48[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to ignore the fact that a lot of people probably do listen to us with a sort of a second eye on fantasy football and understanding that.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_02]: And here's a paragraph from Albert's training camp takeaways.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_02]: The loss of Jordan Mason behind Christian McAfrey leaves a hole and concerned given the injury real season the Niners star tailback just endured.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_02]: Fifth round pick Jordan James could wind up being the primary backup.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_02]: and has shown an edge in a burst that have some believing he'll beat out Isaac Rendo for that role.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_02]: Um, that's interesting.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_02]: But at the same time, this was a deep running back class Kyle Shanahan has a system.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_02]: He knows exactly how to evaluate his tailbacks.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_02]: Every time he puts a tailback into that offense, it seems like they generate positive yardage.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_02]: He knows how to find the right guys that can do the strong uphill cuts when they run, do the outside zone runs.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_02]: could they have found an option a replacement valuable depth for Christian McCaffrey in the fifth round.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't know if he's big enough to be like an every down guy.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's yeah, I want to say he's to wait something like that.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you can look it up.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_00]: But he's a smaller like more compact back, but
- 47:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think he's somebody to watch.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like he was fun to watch at Oregon.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I got to see him play a little bit last year.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know, if I'm putting my amateur scout on scout hat on, I kind of liked him last year.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I mean, I think and take the piece of it is is
- 48:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean that that piece of is is is interesting because I do think like for the nine or it's the young depth is going to be really important like on the defensive side and I will say this I think Robert Salah is one of the most important coaching hires including head coach in the NFL this year because they're going to be so young on defense already playing so many rookies on defense
- 48:35[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but they're going to need some of those guys to contribute on offense too, because all the dead money they've taken on and because the age of some of their star players, like, depth is a very big question with them.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_00]: So it's, you know, going to be with young guys that receive or like Jacob Cowling, but it's also going to be with, you know, a guy like Jordan James who if, if McCaffrey can't hold up physically, which he looks great so far, but we know what the,
- 48:59[SPEAKER_00]: the history of backs at his age with his mileage is, you know, Jordan James could wind up becoming a pretty important piece for them.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_02]: Rams Camp Albert, I think this is one two where we have a look at Matthew Stafford and how important he is to that offense.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_02]: How important is athleticism as this offense?
- 49:19[SPEAKER_02]: We are both older gentlemen.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_02]: We know what it's like to have back pain.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_02]: What were your takeaways from Rams Camp in particular?
- 49:27[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, is this something that needs to be on our radar or is this something that is just, you know, we're going to be laughing about it in my weeks?
- 49:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't sense a lot of concern from them, okay?
- 49:40[SPEAKER_00]: So, like I think the way that approaching this is,
- 49:44[SPEAKER_00]: There's when you got a quarterback that age with his medical history, there's only so many bullets you've got left in the gun.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_00]: And so you probably shouldn't be firing them when he's ninety percent in the middle of the weekend of August, you know?
- 49:59[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's to me it's it's more important for them to get him up to a hundred percent now.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I think part of this too is the is the is the strength of the backup and
- 50:13[SPEAKER_00]: because Jimmy Garoppolo has made such a good impression there and people might laugh and I say this but they viewed Jimmy Garoppolo as like a starting level quarterback and had they traded Matthew Stafford which was a real possibility back in March if they had traded him Aaron Rogers would have been their first choice as the replacement for Stafford and Garoppolo would have been their second choice like if they could not have signed Rogers and they traded the staffer Garoppolo as the quarterback there right now
- 50:40[SPEAKER_00]: The reason I'm saying that is because they now have the luxury of having a guy that can efficiently run the offense and get everyone else ready to play while Stafford saves those bullets in this gun.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's sort of the logic here is they think they've got a Super Bowl team.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_00]: They've got a quarterback who, if he's at his best, is at the very highest level of a sport.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_00]: And so why not get him?
- 51:05[SPEAKER_00]: Why not do everything you can to make sure he's going to be able to be at that level and stay at that level over the course of the season.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's a long season.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Matthew Stavard's health is more important than training camp wraps at thirty seven years old.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think as far as like what the injury is, lucky at the elbow issue, he had the wrist issue,
- 51:26[SPEAKER_00]: He has the the back.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_00]: These are all alarming things for an older player.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think this one's debilitating.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think this is more.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just make sure that he is in a position to sustain through the year and take care of this now rather than having to manage it in October and November.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_02]: So if you guys have any takeaways from this episode, it's that half the shit.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_02]: Well, okay, ninety percent of the shit that we're freaking out about now is not going to matter.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_02]: on September eighth.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_02]: My comparscence is going to have a contract, you know, tree Hendrickson is going to be lined up, Terry McClellan, Matt Stafford's going to be throwing touchdown passes, just relax and lay on your bed full of throw pillows.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the first Sunday or the seventh.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_00]: Seven.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a seventh, right?
- 52:16[SPEAKER_00]: Are there thirty gates and August or thirty one?
- 52:20[SPEAKER_00]: because I know how to see a Texas on, it's thirty one, right?
- 52:23[SPEAKER_00]: So Ohio State Texas is on the thirty fifth.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_00]: And so then the thirty first is that Sunday, so the seventh would be the following Sunday, which means the opener is September fourth.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_02]: Thank goodness, responsible by a great hangover cure, because that'll get out right from Ohio State Texas, just swine.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_00]: I may be breaking into Ohio State Texas, believe it or not.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they're a boy.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_02]: Uh-huh.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_02]: So you can still get drunk.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_02]: Just don't put your kids on your shoulders.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's fun.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, but thank you guys so much as always for another fun week.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_02]: We will be back on Thursday to wrap up everything in the NFL and uh, and it's some point we're just going to see if Albert comes over and have like a little Albert tracker.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_02]: I downloaded a Mr. Softy tracker last night.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to also get an Albert tracker.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_02]: So I know where he is in all times because both of those things are very important to me and my family.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_02]: So thank you guys as always for listening and we will catch up with you later this week.
