- 0:00Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, at your favorite time
- 0:03Speaker 1: of week where you download the Crazy Sheet, you get
- 0:05Speaker 1: you something cold to drinking and getting ready to talk
- 0:07Speaker 1: to some college football. I'm Mark and I'm here in
- 0:09Speaker 1: the college football podcasting studio. Scotty's at home, and we're
- 0:12Speaker 1: ready to talk about the Atlantic Coast Conference that actually
- 0:15Speaker 1: goes all the way across the nation. Craziest travel schedule
- 0:18Speaker 1: you've ever seen, Scotti, brother, How the hell are you man?
- 0:22Speaker 2: These schools literally go coast to coast with a bunch
- 0:26Speaker 2: of teams that nobody cares about.
- 0:29Speaker 3: This league's wild. To me, it's a mess.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I mean, can you imagine, I mean, seriously, can you
- 0:35Speaker 2: imagine the attendance for pal Wake Forest. I mean, I
- 0:42Speaker 2: don't want us to watch that game. I mean, this
- 0:45Speaker 2: is one of those leagues that has got some teams
- 0:49Speaker 2: that I love and I think are great teams Clemson,
- 0:53Speaker 2: Florida State, Miami for example, and that have all been
- 0:56Speaker 2: in my lifetime, have all been especially Myami in Florida State,
- 1:01Speaker 2: for the bulk of my life, have been powers. And
- 1:06Speaker 2: yet they're in areas that TV coverage is already done,
- 1:10Speaker 2: and TV coverage runs everything, and so it's it is
- 1:13Speaker 2: a classic. Man, are they gonna get left out? What's
- 1:15Speaker 2: gonna happen? I think a lot of these teams are
- 1:18Speaker 2: gonna fit. If you're Central Florida and you're West Virginia,
- 1:22Speaker 2: you gotta be stoked at what's going on.
- 1:25Speaker 3: In the ACC because candidly, they're probably.
- 1:27Speaker 2: A better fit in the Big in the Big Ten.
- 1:30Speaker 2: North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech. They're fascinating to me. Obviously
- 1:35Speaker 2: North Carolina is the piece other than Notre Dame that
- 1:38Speaker 2: I think the Big Ten we both love to get.
- 1:41Speaker 2: So this link's fascinating to me. I don't think it's
- 1:43Speaker 2: here in five years. But I also don't know that
- 1:47Speaker 2: anybody is here in five years through the Big Ten
- 1:50Speaker 2: and the SEC just morphed together and they start their
- 1:52Speaker 2: own league. You know, sixty four sixty eight teams, that's
- 1:55Speaker 2: entirely possible. So you know where college football is gonna go.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I think there may be a handful of people in
- 2:01Speaker 2: America that really know. But I'll tell you this, I
- 2:04Speaker 2: don't think the ACC is long term alls of exactly
- 2:08Speaker 2: what I mentioned in the lead in.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Yeah, see the ACEC is interesting. Notre Dame still has
- 2:13Speaker 1: to play kind of in that ACC schedule. We'll talk
- 2:15Speaker 1: about them here in a minute. Then you've got teams
- 2:18Speaker 1: like SMU that bought their way into the conference and
- 2:22Speaker 1: they're spending money. SMU stepped up to the table and
- 2:26Speaker 1: they're like, look, we have a seat for the first
- 2:28Speaker 1: time in over twenty years to play in a big conference.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I mean it's been since the Southwest Conference when they
- 2:34Speaker 1: were kicked out of that with the death penalty that
- 2:36Speaker 1: you've seen this team compete at a major level and
- 2:38Speaker 1: they've invested in the program and you can tell that
- 2:41Speaker 1: they're behind it. Now are they ready to win this year?
- 2:43Speaker 1: I don't know. We're going to see teams that have
- 2:45Speaker 1: made this step up from Group of five to Power
- 2:49Speaker 1: five have not done very well in their first year.
- 2:52Speaker 1: We saw that last year with the Big twelve teams
- 2:54Speaker 1: because there's just a discrepancy in the depth of the
- 2:57Speaker 1: talent of your roster. That being said, there's some bad
- 2:59Speaker 1: teams in this conference in my opinion, and you're gonna
- 3:03Speaker 1: see that as the season drags on and and we'll
- 3:06Speaker 1: dive into it. But man, look at this. I'm gonna
- 3:08Speaker 1: start with Notre Dame, if that's all right.
- 3:09Speaker 3: With you now. Yeah, absolutely, I think.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Notre Dame is super interesting this year. I love that
- 3:14Speaker 1: they bring in Mike Denbrock as the offensive coordinator. I
- 3:18Speaker 1: think Riley Leonard coming over from Duke is an awesome
- 3:21Speaker 1: move for them. I don't think the kid was healthy
- 3:23Speaker 1: last year. He's pretty electric as a quarterback, and I
- 3:27Speaker 1: think Freeman's done a really good job of kind of
- 3:29Speaker 1: reshaping the roster to figure out if Notre Dame can
- 3:33Speaker 1: be one of those competitive teams at the national level.
- 3:35Speaker 1: You're in, you're out. They open the season at College
- 3:38Speaker 1: Station and there's a one point favor or one point
- 3:41Speaker 1: an underdog in a past that I think there's schedules
- 3:45Speaker 1: actually pretty manageable over under ten and a half wins.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I'm not sure I want to get involved in that,
- 3:51Speaker 1: but this Notre Dame team, to me, is fascinating and
- 3:55Speaker 1: I think they're going to put up a shit ton
- 3:56Speaker 1: of points.
- 3:57Speaker 2: By the way, Yeah, I do to. I agree with
- 3:59Speaker 2: you on Riley Leonard. I think that is such a
- 4:02Speaker 2: good set of a lot of quarterback mix ins. I
- 4:05Speaker 2: look the two that I think are going to be
- 4:09Speaker 2: as impactful as anywhere both in this league. Because I
- 4:12Speaker 2: think Miami has got Ward coming in, and I think
- 4:14Speaker 2: that's a big time, a big time deal. So I
- 4:17Speaker 2: think both these guys are good fits. As we're going
- 4:19Speaker 2: to talk about Ward when we get to Miami as well.
- 4:22Speaker 2: But I agree with you, And look, I love the
- 4:25Speaker 2: coaching staff at Notre Dame. I just I like everything
- 4:31Speaker 2: that Mark Stream's got going on.
- 4:33Speaker 3: I really do. I think he is a good dude.
- 4:36Speaker 3: He is a guy that and.
- 4:38Speaker 2: This is really the way I judge coaches. When I'm like,
- 4:40Speaker 2: do I like this guy or not? What I want
- 4:43Speaker 2: to play for him and what I want my son
- 4:44Speaker 2: to go play for him? He checks both those boxes,
- 4:47Speaker 2: and to me, that's part of the reason that I
- 4:50Speaker 2: think Notre Dame is trending well. He's also still a
- 4:53Speaker 2: young guy and an inexperienced coach, and I think this
- 4:58Speaker 2: guy's got a chance to be really good as we
- 5:01Speaker 2: go down the line talking ten or twelve years from now,
- 5:06Speaker 2: I think he's got a chance to be an outstanding
- 5:08Speaker 2: football coach. And we look back and realize Notre Dame
- 5:11Speaker 2: mates move hiring him as the first time head coach
- 5:14Speaker 2: as a defense coordinator from Cincinnati.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. Ten and a half wins. I think
- 5:19Speaker 1: is kind of on the money. Is one of those ones.
- 5:21Speaker 1: If you're gonna bet it, you might as well. I
- 5:23Speaker 1: would tell you, if you think that they can hit
- 5:25Speaker 1: ten and a half wins, then I would instead of
- 5:28Speaker 1: betting that, because you're not getting much pay on the unit,
- 5:31Speaker 1: I would probably just take them to beat Texas A
- 5:33Speaker 1: and M. Because if they win that game, they're going
- 5:36Speaker 1: to get to ten and a half wins in my opinion,
- 5:37Speaker 1: or nine and a half, whatever the number is. But
- 5:39Speaker 1: if they lose that game, I think it's going to
- 5:41Speaker 1: be difficult for him. They still have USC on the schedule,
- 5:44Speaker 1: they still have the Army Navy games on the schedule,
- 5:47Speaker 1: so I like Notre Dame. I think they do have
- 5:49Speaker 1: a shot to get in the playoff, So that would
- 5:51Speaker 1: be another bet I would entertain Scott. We're gonna plow
- 5:54Speaker 1: through these in alpabetical order. We're gonna go hard and
- 5:56Speaker 1: fast because there's so many damn teams in here, Boston.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Let's just bring it up real quick. Jeff Haley made
- 6:02Speaker 1: the odd decision to resign as head coach and go
- 6:05Speaker 1: to the NFL. I think here saw the direction college
- 6:07Speaker 1: football was heading and reals he didn't like it. Bill
- 6:10Speaker 1: O'Brien steps in here as the Boston College coach, brings
- 6:14Speaker 1: back fair amount of talent, and you know, you've also
- 6:16Speaker 1: got Tommy Castanolo Castellonos I think I'm pronouncing that right
- 6:19Speaker 1: as the quarterback that comes in here. Last year, he
- 6:21Speaker 1: was a little bit banged up, but the offense completely
- 6:24Speaker 1: ran through him. O'Brien's actually done a pretty good job
- 6:27Speaker 1: of rebranding himself as an offensive guy and seems to
- 6:31Speaker 1: have come a long way from when he was with
- 6:33Speaker 1: the Texans and kind of drove that thing into the dirt.
- 6:35Speaker 1: This schedule, though, is brutal at Florida State, at Missouri.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Then you've got a Michigan State team comes in that's
- 6:42Speaker 1: trying to rebuild themselves. Western Kentucky can still fling it,
- 6:46Speaker 1: but don't think they're gonna be very good. And then
- 6:48Speaker 1: you kind of get into the meat of the schedule
- 6:50Speaker 1: of the squad. The over under on this team is
- 6:52Speaker 1: four and a half. I think it's about right. I
- 6:54Speaker 1: got no play on BC, probably won't watch much of
- 6:57Speaker 1: them as the season rolls on, but I'm interested to
- 6:59Speaker 1: see if that offense can put up some points more
- 7:02Speaker 1: than did last year.
- 7:03Speaker 2: You know, I'm o be fascinated to see what Bill
- 7:05Speaker 2: O'Brien did. I mean, he look, he got out of
- 7:10Speaker 2: Penn State by just simply, you know, putting fingers in
- 7:14Speaker 2: the dyke and fixing what was a gigantic mess. But
- 7:17Speaker 2: they didn't really win. I think they went seven and
- 7:19Speaker 2: five that year. Before he got the Texans job, he
- 7:22Speaker 2: had a marquee quarterback that he never could there was
- 7:24Speaker 2: a high recruit, but he never could turn him into a.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Through a pro prospect.
- 7:28Speaker 2: So I'll be interested to see what kind of coaches
- 7:31Speaker 2: Bill O'Brien at the college level. We understand he's a
- 7:35Speaker 2: good X and O guy. By all accounts, not a
- 7:39Speaker 2: very nice guy. He was not liked in Houston, which
- 7:41Speaker 2: you can on a multitude of levels, players, people around
- 7:47Speaker 2: the program, just in general, that dude was not well liked.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I've heard he can drop a n F bomb on
- 7:53Speaker 2: you saying good morning. I mean it is I mean
- 7:59Speaker 2: just fascinating to see what he does. That part of
- 8:01Speaker 2: the country is totally different. Is that a better fit
- 8:04Speaker 2: for him than down South? And it may very well be.
- 8:07Speaker 2: He obviously is a very accomplished NFL coordinator, So to me,
- 8:11Speaker 2: this is just a fascinating hire. I'm is he good?
- 8:15Speaker 3: Is any good?
- 8:16Speaker 2: And Penn State's a great job? I understand it was
- 8:19Speaker 2: that's when he was there. Still ain't that hard to
- 8:21Speaker 2: win seven games at Penn State. They still are a
- 8:24Speaker 2: marquee program, and so how good of a coach is
- 8:27Speaker 2: he really? So that's the thing this roster obviously has.
- 8:30Speaker 2: It's got a lot of people back. I mean, they've
- 8:33Speaker 2: got some decent talent, you know, from a team that
- 8:37Speaker 2: went seven and six last year, So there's something to
- 8:40Speaker 2: be excited about. But there's also a lot of question
- 8:44Speaker 2: marks on this team. So, like you, they're not a
- 8:46Speaker 2: play for me.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Cal Justin Wilcox coming into his seventh or eight season here, Man,
- 8:51Speaker 1: this guy has been around forever, it seems like, and
- 8:54Speaker 1: just kind of middled it out. Team went six and
- 8:56Speaker 1: seven last year, which I thought was overachieving for them.
- 8:58Speaker 1: They return a production on this roster. This could be
- 9:02Speaker 1: a team that you could kind of get into to
- 9:04Speaker 1: figure out offensively, what are they gonna do. I'm still
- 9:07Speaker 1: trying to read through the tea leaves and figure out offensively,
- 9:10Speaker 1: are we gonna be a little turn the corner here?
- 9:12Speaker 1: Last year this team benefited from a ton of takeaways.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I think it was like twenty eight somewhere in there
- 9:16Speaker 1: that they had. But then their schedule, their travel schedules brutal.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I mean they've got at Auburn, at Florida State, at
- 9:23Speaker 1: pitt at Wake, and at SMU. Those are long trips
- 9:29Speaker 1: when you're traveling from the Bay Area in California. But
- 9:32Speaker 1: the over under win total on this team's five and
- 9:34Speaker 1: a half, I would take this team to get to
- 9:35Speaker 1: six wins. I like for Dando Mendoza, the quarterback. I
- 9:39Speaker 1: like the offensive line play that we've got coming back
- 9:41Speaker 1: in this one. I'm a big fan of Justin Wilcox,
- 9:44Speaker 1: always have been. I think he overachieved with the talent.
- 9:47Speaker 1: I haven't put a unit down on this, but I
- 9:50Speaker 1: think if this team gets in rhythm, it could stay
- 9:52Speaker 1: in some games. But they've got some big marquee games
- 9:55Speaker 1: in the middle of that schedule with Florida State, Miami,
- 9:57Speaker 1: and NC State. But both Miami and in State come
- 10:00Speaker 1: out there to play them, and so their schedules are
- 10:03Speaker 1: more difficult I think than they're gonna be ready to
- 10:05Speaker 1: deal with. But I could see this team getting the
- 10:07Speaker 1: six and six again this season.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a fascinating store quarterback. They brought in Chandler Rogers.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Obviously they got Mendoza as well. They brought in Rogers
- 10:17Speaker 2: from North Texas. Fabulous story here. The guy that runs
- 10:21Speaker 2: their nil I know pretty well, and he says that
- 10:25Speaker 2: the cal offered him a million bucks. Then he got
- 10:27Speaker 2: out there and didn't He didn't get it.
- 10:29Speaker 3: They didn't give it to him.
- 10:30Speaker 2: And the North Texas coach would let him transfer back.
- 10:34Speaker 3: He's got a no comeback policy. You hit the porter
- 10:36Speaker 3: of your toast. So I mean, this kid totally got screwed.
- 10:40Speaker 2: I mean, just totally rob That's a bad setup for
- 10:44Speaker 2: a program, that's my honest opinion. When you start flying
- 10:47Speaker 2: across the country, UH to play ball games, this is
- 10:50Speaker 2: a tough skit.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Uh.
- 10:52Speaker 2: A lot of their home games are West Coast teams.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Miami and NC State are really the only good at
- 11:01Speaker 2: teams that they're gonna benefit from long travel.
- 11:03Speaker 3: I mean, I know they get.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Syracuse out there, but they also get Stanford, Oregon State,
- 11:08Speaker 2: those teams of San Diego State all or West Coast teams,
- 11:10Speaker 2: So I mean they're gonna be prepared to play and
- 11:13Speaker 2: play at that time. I'm meh I also question if
- 11:16Speaker 2: Justin Cox, what will Cox wasn't smart enough to take
- 11:19Speaker 2: the Oregon job, if he really got offered and stayed
- 11:21Speaker 2: at Cal, then to see really smart enough to win
- 11:24Speaker 2: in this environment in college football? And yes, that's a shot,
- 11:28Speaker 2: and I an'll ever like taking shots at coaches, but man,
- 11:31Speaker 2: how do you stay at COL? Yeah, it's especially being
- 11:35Speaker 2: an Oregon grad. I mean that's one of the that's
- 11:38Speaker 2: one of the most questionable decisions that dude can make.
- 11:41Speaker 2: So anyway, I'm like you, I aint this team. So
- 11:43Speaker 2: a lot of teams have got Stanford Boston, A lot
- 11:47Speaker 2: of predictions have got Stanford Boston College at the bottom
- 11:51Speaker 2: of the league. I ain't Col maybe worse than both
- 11:54Speaker 2: of those teams.
- 11:56Speaker 1: I've got a couple more I'm gonna throw at you
- 11:58Speaker 1: that I'm already on the underzone. Next team, and we've
- 12:00Speaker 1: got Davos Sweeney and the Clemson Tigers. This team went
- 12:04Speaker 1: nine to four last year and did not make the playoffs.
- 12:07Speaker 1: And everybody through this team in the garbage games passing
- 12:10Speaker 1: Dabo By he's not taking transferst bro. This is the
- 12:14Speaker 1: first time in six years he didn't get into the
- 12:16Speaker 1: college football playoff.
- 12:17Speaker 3: No.
- 12:18Speaker 1: One can say that he's won ten games six years
- 12:21Speaker 1: in a row. I mean he has done a tremendous
- 12:23Speaker 1: job developing Clemson. I mean, you remember Clemson was a
- 12:27Speaker 1: I won't say a joke, but people used to talk
- 12:29Speaker 1: about clemsoning ten years ago. We did on the show
- 12:32Speaker 1: and we're you had a build up and then you
- 12:34Speaker 1: couldn't deliver. This year they were short of that. Last
- 12:38Speaker 1: year they didn't get a couple of things. I'm gonna
- 12:40Speaker 1: point all this out. Number one, I like Clemson this year.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I think this team has a chance to play for
- 12:44Speaker 1: the a SEC Championship. I've already got a unit bet
- 12:48Speaker 1: down on that. The other thing I like about this team,
- 12:50Speaker 1: I like how their schedule sets up. But I like
- 12:52Speaker 1: their roster a lot, and if Caid Klebnik can can
- 12:56Speaker 1: turn it around here, I think this team could be good.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Last year he was verry middle of the road, which
- 13:01Speaker 1: surprised me because I loved watching that kid play in
- 13:03Speaker 1: high school and I thought he would really turn it
- 13:06Speaker 1: and he just couldn't get it done. Their wide receiver
- 13:08Speaker 1: room this year is as good as anything you're gonna find.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Antonio Williams is explosive. The one thing that they haven't
- 13:14Speaker 1: been able to do the last couple of years is
- 13:15Speaker 1: create some separation with these wide receivers. I think this
- 13:18Speaker 1: year is the year that they're gonna get it done.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Flip it over to the defensive side of the ball.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Though you're used to seeing Clemson with a fantastic defensive
- 13:26Speaker 1: line in front seven that can really clamp it down,
- 13:29Speaker 1: they don't have a lot of returning production because they
- 13:31Speaker 1: don't take transfers, and so if you go look at
- 13:34Speaker 1: the raid of return that they've got on their defense
- 13:36Speaker 1: this year, there's not a lot of returning starters, not
- 13:38Speaker 1: a lot of snaps that they're gonna put out there,
- 13:40Speaker 1: and so that's my big question mark. But I like
- 13:43Speaker 1: this team a lot. I like this team to make
- 13:45Speaker 1: it to the playoffs. I think they've got a great
- 13:47Speaker 1: shot to win the ACC And I've already bet them
- 13:50Speaker 1: week one at plus thirteen and a half against Georgia
- 13:52Speaker 1: when they play that game down there in the Georgia Dome,
- 13:56Speaker 1: because I think this is going to be a I
- 13:57Speaker 1: like this Clemson team a lot. I'm gonna ride with
- 14:00Speaker 1: this team all season, I think.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I like Clemson too. Look, I like several of
- 14:05Speaker 2: the teams at the top of this league. We're gonna
- 14:08Speaker 2: get to some others. But I agree with you. I
- 14:10Speaker 2: think Clemson's got a chance to be good. I liked
- 14:11Speaker 2: them plus thirteen and a half versus Georgia. George has
- 14:14Speaker 2: got enough question marks that I honestly, I think that's
- 14:17Speaker 2: a great bet. I think you should be taking that
- 14:19Speaker 2: number as that game goes in. Club Nick is now
- 14:22Speaker 2: at the year where now you find out to see the.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Quarterback or not.
- 14:25Speaker 2: You know, you play as a freshman, but you don't
- 14:27Speaker 2: really have any responsibility because they got on Goolele there
- 14:30Speaker 2: and you know he comes in, he's able to make
- 14:32Speaker 2: some plays.
- 14:33Speaker 3: You know he does some.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Good things, but the pressure's not on him. And then
- 14:37Speaker 2: he's the guy as a sophomore, and he struggled a
- 14:40Speaker 2: little bit at times.
- 14:41Speaker 3: And that's not uncommon. Man. I can name quarterback after
- 14:44Speaker 3: quarterback after quarterback that struggled.
- 14:46Speaker 2: As a sophomore and then come back blowing it up
- 14:48Speaker 2: as juniors and seniors. They didn't try to move on
- 14:52Speaker 2: from him for a reason. Quarterback is not a spot
- 14:56Speaker 2: where it's hard to go get a transfer. If you're
- 14:58Speaker 2: a Clemson can take one transfer and it be a
- 15:01Speaker 2: quarterback if you and there were some good ones in
- 15:04Speaker 2: the portal, if they felt like, hey man, we got
- 15:07Speaker 2: the wrong guy, and I think that says a lot
- 15:11Speaker 2: about him. I was listening to an interview at Media
- 15:14Speaker 2: Days with Dabbo, and I think he was really complimentary
- 15:18Speaker 2: of what he thinks he's going to get out of Pubny,
- 15:21Speaker 2: and so I'm excited about this team as well. Bottom
- 15:24Speaker 2: line is, this guy's done a really, really good job.
- 15:27Speaker 2: I did not think he was going to do it.
- 15:28Speaker 2: He comes off in that all shucks manner, and I
- 15:32Speaker 2: will tell you this, we're going to find out. I
- 15:34Speaker 2: think there is room for the guy who's going to
- 15:38Speaker 2: develop talent. It's clear that's what Hugh Freeze is trying
- 15:41Speaker 2: to do at Auburn. Now he's being selective in the portal,
- 15:44Speaker 2: but he's trying to build his roster through recruitment, and
- 15:48Speaker 2: Clemson is very much trying to do that, and they
- 15:50Speaker 2: believe that that is going to pay off for them
- 15:52Speaker 2: the long term. Not being the hired guns. It's going
- 15:55Speaker 2: to matter in team unity. Football still the greatest team sport.
- 16:00Speaker 2: I can you can at least get me on board
- 16:02Speaker 2: because Dabo can recruit at an elite level. He really can,
- 16:06Speaker 2: and especially along the defensive line, and that is what
- 16:10Speaker 2: makes football teams. And you want to look at what
- 16:12Speaker 2: made Nick saban defensive line, what happened to Sabans dominance.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Georgia started getting half those defensive linemen that they got
- 16:19Speaker 2: all of them, and then Texas started getting some of
- 16:21Speaker 2: them when Sark left and it was split in threes.
- 16:24Speaker 3: And Saving's like, you know what.
- 16:25Speaker 2: I'm gonna go to ESPN stared of this, you know,
- 16:28Speaker 2: and all the of it. He was dominating. That guy
- 16:31Speaker 2: had a three dep on the defensive line. They had
- 16:33Speaker 2: dudes starting in the NFL that were on thirteen. I mean,
- 16:35Speaker 2: that's the bottom line. And so I think Swinny can
- 16:39Speaker 2: do it, and I think this is gonna be a
- 16:41Speaker 2: good team this year.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Many Diaz takes over at Duke after Mike Elko moves
- 16:46Speaker 1: over to Texas A and m Duke when eight and
- 16:49Speaker 1: five last year had some upset wins that were there.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Roster is not great this season. I'm not gonna lie
- 16:55Speaker 1: to you. Diaz to get to a winning record is
- 16:57Speaker 1: going to have to perform some magic defensively. In my mind,
- 17:01Speaker 1: losing the talent that he lost offensively. I mean the
- 17:03Speaker 1: quarterback play was electric. I mean Riley was above average
- 17:06Speaker 1: for that. Of course, they had that early season win
- 17:08Speaker 1: against Clemson that kind of surprised some folks. Their schedules
- 17:11Speaker 1: set up nicely in a sense that they got off
- 17:14Speaker 1: to four wins in a row with that one, Lafayette, Northwestern,
- 17:16Speaker 1: and Connecticut, and then they kind of muddled their way
- 17:19Speaker 1: through the rest of the season games that they were
- 17:21Speaker 1: supposed to win. N C State was the only surprise
- 17:24Speaker 1: one where they beat them twenty four to three, but
- 17:26Speaker 1: n C State was out some players that game. This season,
- 17:30Speaker 1: this team could be funny. They could be four and
- 17:33Speaker 1: oh Elon at Northwestern, Yukon and at Middle before they
- 17:37Speaker 1: get into anything. And they may not be any good
- 17:40Speaker 1: because I don't think North Carolina and Georgia Tech are
- 17:42Speaker 1: that good, to be honest with you, But this duke team,
- 17:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna stand by and watch because I'm aout one
- 17:48Speaker 1: hundred percent sure we're gonna get out of the squad. Yet.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I think second half of the season gets ugly
- 17:53Speaker 2: for these guys. I mean, I think you roll into
- 17:56Speaker 2: that October eighteenth game after an off week against Florida.
- 17:59Speaker 3: State on Friday night, man at may get ugly.
- 18:02Speaker 2: They go to They've got SMU at home at Miami
- 18:06Speaker 2: Florida and at NC State. Boy, that could be a
- 18:09Speaker 2: four game losing streak. And then you get Virginia take
- 18:12Speaker 2: it home, who I think is gonna be a good
- 18:13Speaker 2: football team. So, uh, this could be a rough year
- 18:16Speaker 2: for Das. I'm interested to see how this goes as well.
- 18:19Speaker 2: This is such an opposite job of Miami, where I
- 18:23Speaker 2: think Das was doing a significantly better job than credited.
- 18:27Speaker 2: You know, his record has been as good as crystal balls,
- 18:29Speaker 2: so I mean he was turning it around.
- 18:31Speaker 3: He had been dyke playing real. Uh.
- 18:33Speaker 2: They never gotten nearly as much out of him as
- 18:35Speaker 2: d As did from a true freshman. So I'm interested
- 18:38Speaker 2: to see how good of coaches Manny d As.
- 18:40Speaker 3: It's out there.
- 18:41Speaker 2: He's done a He's a dynamic guy, good looking guy
- 18:44Speaker 2: that you know, has always been a dynamic coordinator that
- 18:46Speaker 2: got a lot of attention.
- 18:48Speaker 3: What kind of head coaches he we're gonna find out here?
- 18:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally agree, Scott. Next two game teams, We've
- 18:54Speaker 1: got Florida State in Georgia Tech, which interestingly enough opened
- 18:58Speaker 1: the season up since we've started in Dublin Island. Since
- 19:00Speaker 1: we've started this podcast, we've actually seen a line move here.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Line's been pretty solid at thirteen and a half all summer.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Now Georgia Tech must be taking some money and we've
- 19:10Speaker 1: seen that line move down to twelve and a half.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I would love to tay it's because of me, but
- 19:15Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure my four hundred dollars that I bet
- 19:17Speaker 1: on Georgia Tech at plus thirteen and a half a
- 19:18Speaker 1: month ago is not moving lines. As we roll into August,
- 19:23Speaker 1: Florida State Man is Mike Norvell is gonna have to
- 19:27Speaker 1: get it done this year. I'm not gonna have to
- 19:28Speaker 1: get it done. This is gonna be a testament to
- 19:30Speaker 1: how well he really can coach. Last year he put
- 19:33Speaker 1: that team together. They had a tremendous run through the
- 19:36Speaker 1: season thirteen and one. Obviously a lot of people thought
- 19:39Speaker 1: they should play for you know, get in the tournament.
- 19:41Speaker 1: But when you get Jordan Travis hurt, then they're out
- 19:43Speaker 1: on him. And then literally the entire roster opted out
- 19:46Speaker 1: for the Bowls season and didn't get in that and
- 19:48Speaker 1: they got rolled by Georgia sixty three to three. He
- 19:52Speaker 1: still has a fucking shitload of talent left on this roster. Man,
- 19:55Speaker 1: He's done a damn good job turning this thing around.
- 19:57Speaker 1: I mean, you've got to realize we weren't far removed
- 19:59Speaker 1: from the will He Tagger fucking dumpster fire that this
- 20:02Speaker 1: guy took over and quickly turned this thing around and
- 20:06Speaker 1: made this the premier program that it was most of
- 20:08Speaker 1: our lives growing up. I like this when DJ and
- 20:10Speaker 1: Dealle transfers back to the ACC from Oregon, which I
- 20:14Speaker 1: thought he had a pretty good season last last year.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I like this Florida State team. I think they're contender
- 20:20Speaker 1: to win the conference. But again, I haven't put any
- 20:23Speaker 1: money down on these guys. I do have Georgia Tech
- 20:25Speaker 1: plus thirteen and a half in that first game of
- 20:27Speaker 1: the season that they open up over in Ireland. I'll
- 20:29Speaker 1: talk more about that in a minute. But I like
- 20:31Speaker 1: this Florida State team. He's got some dogs on this
- 20:33Speaker 1: defense this season.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Look, I'm gonna tell you something he doesn't get enough
- 20:38Speaker 3: credit for. I know that Lane Kiffin is the portal king.
- 20:43Speaker 3: A good job.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Mike Norvell's ass gets it done in the portal. I
- 20:46Speaker 2: mean he makes it happen. I mean this year, he
- 20:49Speaker 2: totally turned a roster over, oh yeah, and made them competitive.
- 20:52Speaker 2: I mean they got dues from Alabama. I got multiple
- 20:55Speaker 2: guys from Alabama, Georgia. You know they got Angola, Lele.
- 20:58Speaker 2: I mean it is guy's from all Auburn, Florida.
- 21:01Speaker 3: I mean, u tip.
- 21:03Speaker 2: I mean you start looking at where all these transfers
- 21:06Speaker 2: are from, and it's all Maryland. I mean it's just
- 21:08Speaker 2: non stop Virginia, Miami. I mean they're from all over.
- 21:12Speaker 2: And the guy's gone out and put guys out there,
- 21:15Speaker 2: a lot of guys who've gotten a lot of action.
- 21:18Speaker 2: I mean the lineman they brought in from Auburn. I
- 21:20Speaker 2: think it's got twenty one starts. So I mean this
- 21:22Speaker 2: is a guy who's been on the field and played
- 21:25Speaker 2: a lot, so interested to see how this shakes out.
- 21:28Speaker 3: It's a brand new roster, but it's all in Uncola Lele.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I believe, and I think this is his real chance
- 21:34Speaker 2: because he's in a guy. He's in with a guy
- 21:37Speaker 2: now who's made some quarterbacks and created some things. Honestly,
- 21:43Speaker 2: what kind of felt like out of thin air. I
- 21:45Speaker 2: mean all the way going back, because I think Northville
- 21:47Speaker 2: was in Memphis when Paxton Lynch was there wasn't he
- 21:49Speaker 2: when he an assistant and then went to Arizona State.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's right.
- 21:53Speaker 3: But but anyway, going on to that is that is
- 22:00Speaker 3: is a huge just a huge season from Gali.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Like he's ever got any hope of playing in the NFL,
- 22:06Speaker 2: he needs to hang up good numbers under an offense
- 22:09Speaker 2: that has the potential to put numbers and a coach
- 22:13Speaker 2: who likes to throw it around the yard.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Georgia Tech Brent keys second season is z Alma Mater
- 22:18Speaker 1: turned this thing into a seven and six record last year,
- 22:21Speaker 1: five and three in the ACC. I got this team
- 22:23Speaker 1: slated in the bottom half of the ACC this season,
- 22:26Speaker 1: but I think this team is a good team to
- 22:28Speaker 1: watch for totals and to play in the overs. I
- 22:30Speaker 1: think Haynes King and the Jamal Haynes the running back,
- 22:34Speaker 1: are gonna and they've got a lot of talent back
- 22:37Speaker 1: on this offense, a lot of snaps back. They're gonna
- 22:39Speaker 1: score some points this season. I look for this team
- 22:41Speaker 1: to put up some numbers. Defensively is where I think
- 22:44Speaker 1: this team's really gonna struggle. And that's why I said,
- 22:46Speaker 1: if you're looking at numbers like in the fifty eight
- 22:48Speaker 1: to sixty four range in a lot of these games.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I think these are games that are going to be
- 22:51Speaker 1: coming in hard on the totals in the over in
- 22:54Speaker 1: this spot because defensively, I think this team's gonna struggle.
- 22:57Speaker 1: That's my opinion. Like I said, I've already taken them
- 22:59Speaker 1: plus thirteen and a half Florida State in Dublin that
- 23:02Speaker 1: first week. I haven't played anything of the total in
- 23:04Speaker 1: fifty six and a half, but I might get involved
- 23:06Speaker 1: in that as well.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Yeah, you know my thing looking at at.
- 23:10Speaker 2: This team at the top of thet They obviously don't
- 23:14Speaker 2: get any love playing Georgia at the end the year
- 23:17Speaker 2: as a non conference.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Game, but they play a lot of what I think.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Are going to be better teams in this league, Notre Dame,
- 23:24Speaker 2: Virginia Tech, Miami, and Florida State.
- 23:27Speaker 3: So their schedule is pretty tough.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Is one reason I'm not bullish on their over under
- 23:31Speaker 2: win total, but because I do think this is going
- 23:34Speaker 2: to be a better football team, and I think britt
- 23:37Speaker 2: Key's done a great job. Because Jeff Collins an Mississippi
- 23:41Speaker 2: State guy.
- 23:42Speaker 3: Boy, he was loved.
- 23:42Speaker 2: I have a good friend who is a good friend
- 23:45Speaker 2: of his now and just is a tremendous guy. But boy,
- 23:52Speaker 2: that program was a mess under him. And Key's come
- 23:54Speaker 2: in and done a real, really, really good job taking
- 23:57Speaker 2: over as the interim and then getting the time job.
- 24:00Speaker 3: So I'm excited to see what he does here and
- 24:02Speaker 3: what is.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Year three, but not really year three because of taking
- 24:07Speaker 2: it over. So I want to really sinks in and
- 24:11Speaker 2: does this year in his third year overall leading this
- 24:16Speaker 2: program and what they can do.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Louisville. You could argue as a surprise team of the
- 24:20Speaker 1: ACC last year with Jeff Brom coming in. You and
- 24:23Speaker 1: I were high on this team from jump. I like
- 24:26Speaker 1: this team this year. I think they're going to be
- 24:28Speaker 1: better than they were last year and they went ten
- 24:29Speaker 1: and four. The key to this team being good this
- 24:32Speaker 1: year is Tyler Shuck staying healthy. He has not been.
- 24:35Speaker 1: This is his sixth year. I believe thanks started to Oregon,
- 24:39Speaker 1: was it Texas Tech? Now here he is in Louisville.
- 24:41Speaker 1: This is a good system for him to be in.
- 24:43Speaker 1: It's a lot of chunk in the rock bro and
- 24:45Speaker 1: then they like to score. Brom likes to get it going.
- 24:48Speaker 1: The players that are more comfortable in the second season
- 24:51Speaker 1: come in. I thought the guys transferring in are going
- 24:53Speaker 1: to fit nicely. Their schedule is not daunting in my opinion,
- 24:58Speaker 1: and so I think this Louisville team could easily contend
- 25:01Speaker 1: for this to play for the a SEC Championship again.
- 25:03Speaker 1: And I think their odds are like seven to fifty
- 25:06Speaker 1: to win it, So it might not be a bad
- 25:07Speaker 1: little throw you a half a nugget down on this one.
- 25:10Speaker 1: I like the Cardinal this year. Again, I'm gonna be
- 25:12Speaker 1: high on them, and I think nine wins, ten wins
- 25:15Speaker 1: is achievable.
- 25:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not as high on them as you are.
- 25:19Speaker 2: They had I think some good luck last year, and
- 25:24Speaker 2: that makes me question. Boy, they were really fortunate in
- 25:27Speaker 2: the turn of over game and that just usually doesn't happen.
- 25:31Speaker 3: Back to back years.
- 25:33Speaker 2: But I certainly don't think this team's like in danger
- 25:35Speaker 2: of taking a major step back.
- 25:38Speaker 3: I like Jeff Brom. I liked him at Purdue.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Purdue, much like Mississippi State's one of the hardest jobs
- 25:43Speaker 2: in the country. It's a really, really tough job. But
- 25:46Speaker 2: he did a good job up there. Here is an
- 25:48Speaker 2: easier better.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Fit for him.
- 25:50Speaker 2: I like Brom. I think you'll do a great job.
- 25:53Speaker 2: I think this is going to be a good team.
- 25:55Speaker 2: This team is one of those teams that has the
- 25:59Speaker 2: potential to pop out.
- 26:02Speaker 3: They really do. They they get some good teams on
- 26:06Speaker 3: the road.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Is the only reason I don't think this team's got
- 26:09Speaker 2: a chance at winning the league. They're at Clemson, They're
- 26:11Speaker 2: at Notre Dame, They're at Kentucky to end. I know
- 26:14Speaker 2: that doesn't count in the league. I think that long
- 26:17Speaker 2: trip to Stanford could be more eight in the year
- 26:19Speaker 2: than people think. But they got an off week before that.
- 26:22Speaker 2: They're at you know, they're at Clemson, as.
- 26:24Speaker 3: I said, so I think it's gonna be tough.
- 26:26Speaker 2: They play Miami with Florida at home as well, so
- 26:29Speaker 2: they play some of the better teams. I don't know
- 26:32Speaker 2: that they're gonna get to ten games, but I think
- 26:33Speaker 2: it's gonna be a good football team as well.
- 26:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Now I've got them favored in nine games. I don't
- 26:38Speaker 1: have them favored at Notre Dame. I don't have them
- 26:40Speaker 1: favorite at Clemson, and I do not have them favored
- 26:43Speaker 1: when Miami comes to town. Past that, I got this
- 26:46Speaker 1: team favorite in every game they're gonna play. So we'll see.
- 26:48Speaker 1: That's gonna roll Miami Hurricanes Mario Cristobal's third season. He
- 26:54Speaker 1: I listened to him in a podcast earlier this summer,
- 26:56Speaker 1: and he talked about how season three has always been
- 26:58Speaker 1: his best, and he talks about how he was a
- 27:00Speaker 1: defensive coordinator when he was at another offense coordinator when
- 27:03Speaker 1: he was back at Oregon. And you know, last year,
- 27:07Speaker 1: of course, Miami had that crazy, embarrassing loss to Georgia Tech,
- 27:11Speaker 1: and then they stumbled again the next week against North
- 27:14Speaker 1: Carolina and couldn't get it back on the rails. They've
- 27:16Speaker 1: got maybe two of the most exciting transfers out of
- 27:19Speaker 1: the Pacific Northwest that if you're not a college football junkie,
- 27:23Speaker 1: you've never heard of cam Ward and Damian Martinez. I mean,
- 27:27Speaker 1: these guys are gonna be able to get it done.
- 27:29Speaker 1: They also bring back Jacob Jacoby George on the outside,
- 27:32Speaker 1: and then one of my favorite players, Xavier Restreppo, who
- 27:36Speaker 1: plays the slot. I was really surprised this guy didn't
- 27:38Speaker 1: go pro. He's got a great hairlip, but he can
- 27:41Speaker 1: run across the middle and make things happen defensively. I've
- 27:44Speaker 1: got some question marks on this squad, but Christa Baal
- 27:47Speaker 1: seems high on this team and their schedules manageable. Man,
- 27:51Speaker 1: I think this could be a ten win team.
- 27:53Speaker 2: This is the All Name team team. I am working
- 27:58Speaker 2: on the All Name team for the crazy shit. I
- 28:00Speaker 2: am through the potential run through of every roster, and
- 28:04Speaker 2: make no mistake, they have six potentials.
- 28:07Speaker 3: Uh, this is.
- 28:08Speaker 2: The all There is one other team that is on
- 28:11Speaker 2: the same level. I think I actually have one that's
- 28:12Speaker 2: got seven potentials. But Ristreppo is definitely one at the
- 28:16Speaker 2: wide receiver spot that is an is certainly an All
- 28:19Speaker 2: Name team and an all team player. And I will
- 28:21Speaker 2: tell you being good matters. If I'm down to a
- 28:25Speaker 2: couple of names, if you've got a thousand yards and
- 28:27Speaker 2: you're coming back receiving, you're probably gonna make the All
- 28:30Speaker 2: Name Team. So that there is some playmaking ability involved
- 28:34Speaker 2: in the All Name team as well.
- 28:35Speaker 3: You gotta. We're gonna take into consideration a little bit
- 28:39Speaker 3: of our the.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Good I think the I think the Hurricanes.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Are gonna be a good football team. This is this
- 28:46Speaker 3: is the deal. How good is crystal Ball?
- 28:48Speaker 2: I mean this We're gonna find We're gonna find out.
- 28:51Speaker 2: This guy is a worst clock manager in college football.
- 28:53Speaker 2: He is anybody I've ever seen in it.
- 28:56Speaker 3: And I'm that just doesn't happen with guys that played
- 28:58Speaker 3: the game. I mean it's I was good.
- 29:00Speaker 2: He won a national title as a player and under
- 29:04Speaker 2: phenomenal coaches. He's coached under great coaches. How is he
- 29:08Speaker 2: this bad at clock management? That that game last year?
- 29:13Speaker 2: Was that Georgia Tech that they just gagged? It wasn't
- 29:16Speaker 2: that Georgia Tech. Sh that's the shittiest job of coach
- 29:20Speaker 2: I've ever seen. I mean, that was honestly firerable.
- 29:24Speaker 3: I mean it really was. It was inexcusable. If I'm
- 29:28Speaker 3: a fan, I am livid at Crystal Ball. So how
- 29:32Speaker 3: good is he to me?
- 29:33Speaker 2: That's the big question on this team. I look at
- 29:35Speaker 2: this roster and they ought to be good. I think
- 29:38Speaker 2: this team should be good. They got a lot of
- 29:39Speaker 2: players back, the guys they brought in. Look, cam Ward's
- 29:42Speaker 2: as good as anybody at Kid's electric. He's got so
- 29:45Speaker 2: much more talent on this team than he ever had
- 29:47Speaker 2: at Washington State. What kind of numbers is he gonna
- 29:50Speaker 2: put up? That could be crazy. Martinez is a really
- 29:53Speaker 2: good tough running back. That guy man, that guy could
- 29:56Speaker 2: have gone anywhere. He visited Old Miss he wass in
- 29:58Speaker 2: Mississippi State. He visited Miami, and I know State was
- 30:01Speaker 2: throwing money at him, and I know Old miss was
- 30:02Speaker 2: throwing big money at him.
- 30:04Speaker 3: And Miami gets him.
- 30:05Speaker 2: That tells you how much money they were throwing at him,
- 30:07Speaker 2: because why you know money won out because it me
- 30:12Speaker 2: this ain't gonna win.
- 30:12Speaker 3: If you wanted to.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Say, well, State's not gonna be very good, that's the
- 30:15Speaker 2: reason he didn'tchoose that. Fine, no problem, what's excuse in Oxford? So,
- 30:19Speaker 2: I mean Old Miami's obviously clearly got money paying the program.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Is behind crystal ball. Is he good enough to do it?
- 30:25Speaker 2: And that's what we're gonna find out, because candidly he
- 30:28Speaker 2: lost some games in the Oregon with the same way.
- 30:29Speaker 3: I mean, high in the hell did they.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Lose to Auburn that year when Nicks was a true
- 30:33Speaker 2: freshman that was coaching Mouth seasons, you know. So, I mean,
- 30:37Speaker 2: I just I can wall and on of games. He's
- 30:40Speaker 2: just he's he's the worst clock manager and one of
- 30:43Speaker 2: the worst game managers in the country. Can this guy
- 30:45Speaker 2: get them good enough? We'll find out. This is his chance.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Let's move on to North Carolina. Two interesting teams this season. Uh,
- 30:55Speaker 1: every year you think MATC. Brown's gonna retire. He just
- 30:58Speaker 1: kind of re ups and keeps on coming back. I
- 31:00Speaker 1: like his coaching staff. Chip Lindsay's the offensive coordinator, and
- 31:03Speaker 1: he's got Jeff Collins in there on the defensive side. Obviously,
- 31:06Speaker 1: they lose Drake May first round draft pick to the
- 31:08Speaker 1: New York to the Patriots, and that's where he is
- 31:12Speaker 1: this season. I'm kind of down on this squad. They
- 31:15Speaker 1: went eight and five last year. They've got quite a
- 31:17Speaker 1: few kids returning on the defensive front, and I think
- 31:20Speaker 1: they're gonna have to lean on their defense for Collins
- 31:22Speaker 1: to keep them in some games this year. I think
- 31:24Speaker 1: trying to break in a new quarterback is gonna be tough.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Their schedule is not very hard, though. I mean they
- 31:29Speaker 1: open at Many, which Many is a kind of a
- 31:31Speaker 1: mad team. Charlotte's awful n C Central James Madison's gonna
- 31:35Speaker 1: be down. Then they've got at Duke Pittsburgh's fucking terrible.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Joh Tech. We just talked about, We're not sure what
- 31:41Speaker 1: they do. I don't think Virginia's very good, so I
- 31:43Speaker 1: think this team's record is going to outperform what maybe
- 31:47Speaker 1: talented they've got, because they don't really catch any hard
- 31:49Speaker 1: games this season. They got Florida State and NC State
- 31:52Speaker 1: at the very end I met on the team. I
- 31:55Speaker 1: haven't made a play on them, whereas on the opposite
- 31:57Speaker 1: side of the State and the wolf Pack, I think
- 31:59Speaker 1: this team's gonna be good. I'm really excited to see
- 32:02Speaker 1: Grayson McCall transferring down from Coastal Carolina in this set.
- 32:06Speaker 1: This is Robert and I second year at n C State,
- 32:09Speaker 1: and you and I've been on in C State since
- 32:11Speaker 1: they brought in Dave dorian Man. I mean, I don't
- 32:13Speaker 1: know any two fools from Texas that watch more in
- 32:16Speaker 1: C State football that have no affiliation in the squad's ever.
- 32:20Speaker 1: But I kind of like what in CEA State's doing here,
- 32:22Speaker 1: and I can see this team getting the ten wins.
- 32:24Speaker 1: So give me your quick overview of both those teams
- 32:26Speaker 1: in North Carolina, because I think they're going to be
- 32:28Speaker 1: overlooked as the season rolls on.
- 32:31Speaker 2: I'm with you, I don't think North Carolina's going to
- 32:33Speaker 2: be very good. I think Max Johnson's a bad fit
- 32:35Speaker 2: in that that's a verianced offensive line, and that's a
- 32:38Speaker 2: guy that needs a clear pocket to throw the football.
- 32:40Speaker 3: I think he's talented.
- 32:42Speaker 2: I actually like the kid. Think he can throw the football,
- 32:45Speaker 2: but he's limited in what he can do from And
- 32:48Speaker 2: I say that, and I know the kid has a ability.
- 32:52Speaker 2: I'm not saying he's a statue back there because he
- 32:54Speaker 2: can't throw the football on the run, but I think
- 32:55Speaker 2: he needs a clean pocket to be successful. I think
- 32:57Speaker 2: they outperform exactly what you said because of that schedule.
- 33:01Speaker 2: I like North Carolina State. Again, BOYI they're nobody doing
- 33:04Speaker 2: a better job Grayson McCall when I should have said
- 33:07Speaker 2: three teams bringing in exciting quarterbacks. I mean, this guy
- 33:10Speaker 2: was electric. He was a one man show for a
- 33:13Speaker 2: while down there. What's he do getting some talent around him?
- 33:17Speaker 2: I think that's going to be I think that's.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Gonna be outstanding.
- 33:20Speaker 2: They got some good lineman back at four guys with
- 33:23Speaker 2: starting experience back You.
- 33:25Speaker 3: Put my call behind that.
- 33:27Speaker 2: And Casey Conception, she owns a pretty good player at
- 33:29Speaker 2: the wide receiver spot. They've got a wide receiver coming
- 33:32Speaker 2: in Smothers from Oklahoma. They brought in Jordan Waters at
- 33:36Speaker 2: running back from Duke. So I'm interested to see what
- 33:39Speaker 2: this team could do. I think they are going to
- 33:41Speaker 2: be better. But again, not a huge fan of the schedule.
- 33:46Speaker 2: They get Tennessee.
- 33:46Speaker 3: Week two, they're at Clemson at Trip at col could
- 33:50Speaker 3: be tricky.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Man, that's a long way, and that is in the
- 33:53Speaker 2: middle of that is the eighth game. Man, that's a
- 33:57Speaker 2: long trip to make after playing eight street weeks before
- 34:00Speaker 2: you get an off week. So that's a game to
- 34:02Speaker 2: keep an eye on as we circle things. But I
- 34:04Speaker 2: think it's gonna be a better team. I think I
- 34:06Speaker 2: think North Carolina's not gonna be as good as their record.
- 34:08Speaker 2: I think in NC State, much like Virginia Tech, can
- 34:12Speaker 2: we get to them, has got that chance to pop forward.
- 34:14Speaker 2: I think they've got a chance to be better than people.
- 34:17Speaker 1: You know, Scott made that point, and I'll throw this
- 34:20Speaker 1: nugget out there to all y'all they are listening. Just
- 34:22Speaker 1: to kind of make some circles on your schedule. We
- 34:25Speaker 1: have found that if you catch a team that's played
- 34:28Speaker 1: eight weeks in a row without a bye, that eight
- 34:31Speaker 1: week for whatever reason is just kind of where they
- 34:33Speaker 1: just kind of run out of gas in that spot
- 34:35Speaker 1: and then they have to go on a.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Ninth and the ninth week mark is a guarantee if
- 34:39Speaker 2: you catch catch them with nine that's gonna be tough.
- 34:41Speaker 2: With two walf weeks this year, pretty much nobody's got
- 34:44Speaker 2: a nine, but eight in a row is tough, especially
- 34:46Speaker 2: when it's a long trip to cal So anyway, I
- 34:48Speaker 2: saw it, didn't mean interrupt.
- 34:49Speaker 1: No, No, that's a good point. That's the reason we want
- 34:51Speaker 1: to bring that up, because you got to start doing
- 34:53Speaker 1: some schedule digging around on these to find those spots
- 34:55Speaker 1: and then make you some notes. I'm such a nerd
- 34:57Speaker 1: I've started putting them into my calendar on Mondays so
- 35:02Speaker 1: when it pops up, I can kind of look to
- 35:04Speaker 1: see where we are months from now. I mean, because
- 35:06Speaker 1: that's that's the middle of October that we're talking about.
- 35:08Speaker 1: I'm not gonna remember this conversation. So just trying to
- 35:11Speaker 1: get a little smarter as we put these things in
- 35:14Speaker 1: this one. Whoa pitt is gonna be bad? This team
- 35:19Speaker 1: was three and nine last year. I have no idea
- 35:22Speaker 1: what Nard Dog is doing. I mean five six years ago,
- 35:25Speaker 1: it was play defense, grind it out. You know, we're
- 35:29Speaker 1: comfortable in that space. Then he brings in Mark Whipple
- 35:32Speaker 1: and just cuts his balls off and basically says, Okay,
- 35:35Speaker 1: we're not gonna run the offense that you want to
- 35:37Speaker 1: run and you I have no idea what you're gonna
- 35:40Speaker 1: get pick it was good then he wasn't. I got
- 35:43Speaker 1: nothing here. Man. When I look at this team, I'm
- 35:45Speaker 1: just kind of like, m so, do you have a
- 35:48Speaker 1: read on what we're gonna get from Pitt? I have
- 35:50Speaker 1: no idea.
- 35:51Speaker 3: You know what my gut tells me.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Nardoozy does his best work when nobody's expecting a thing.
- 35:57Speaker 2: And looking at this roster, why in the world would
- 36:01Speaker 2: you expect much? I mean that because it's like you said,
- 36:05Speaker 2: there's some teams that I don't think are going to
- 36:07Speaker 2: be very good in this league. And yet when you're
- 36:12Speaker 2: near the bottom of the league, then then I you
- 36:16Speaker 2: got a question, boy, what is what is the what's
- 36:19Speaker 2: the roster really gonna What's it really going to be
- 36:21Speaker 2: able to do? But I like Nordoozi. They're coming off
- 36:24Speaker 2: for three wins though, so it's hard to it's hard
- 36:27Speaker 2: to get behind this this this football team. The schedule
- 36:32Speaker 2: is manageable. Those first four weeks, they gotta win at
- 36:37Speaker 2: Cincinnati and they gotta win at home against West Virginia.
- 36:40Speaker 2: The other two a Kent State and Youngstown State. They've
- 36:44Speaker 2: got to start four and oh, because then then then
- 36:47Speaker 2: they start, then this team can start making some Hey,
- 36:49Speaker 2: they get Cal at home, they get Syracuse, I mean
- 36:52Speaker 2: those are winnable games. They get Virginia at home, they
- 36:55Speaker 2: play at Boston College to end the year. Those are
- 36:58Speaker 2: games that can get this team there. So I think
- 37:01Speaker 2: they're gonna finish middle of the pack. I think I
- 37:03Speaker 2: don't think this team's in danger of being a three
- 37:07Speaker 2: win team again because.
- 37:09Speaker 3: I think the rosters.
- 37:10Speaker 2: I think they got enough players back to take a
- 37:12Speaker 2: step forward. The offensive line has pretty much got it's
- 37:15Speaker 2: pretty much got five starters back, so they should be
- 37:18Speaker 2: better protecting. The quarterbacks should be better running the football.
- 37:22Speaker 2: They've got a couple couple of wide receivers back, so
- 37:24Speaker 2: I think this team's gonna be better. They brought in
- 37:26Speaker 2: transfer from Florida, so I'm interested to see what they're
- 37:30Speaker 2: like athletically. But I cannot see how this team is
- 37:34Speaker 2: not Bowl eligible based on that schedule.
- 37:36Speaker 1: This team's gonna be bad, dude, trust me, they're gonna
- 37:38Speaker 1: be two and two. They're gonna lose.
- 37:41Speaker 3: To agree with you, I think you're gonna be two
- 37:43Speaker 3: and two.
- 37:43Speaker 1: I agree with you, oh Man s mu moving in.
- 37:47Speaker 1: This is probably the best prepared team to move up,
- 37:50Speaker 1: just in the money that they've spent. You know. They
- 37:52Speaker 1: they joked about the collective they called the Boardwalk Collective,
- 37:55Speaker 1: which that's where Semme tailgates. If you've ever been to
- 37:58Speaker 1: a game there, it's like, hey man, we've already done this,
- 38:00Speaker 1: so we know what we're doing raising money. They bring
- 38:03Speaker 1: back Preston Stone, he was a little bit banged up
- 38:05Speaker 1: last year. Retless se is coming in here in year three.
- 38:08Speaker 1: The guy's eighteen and nine in this first couple of
- 38:10Speaker 1: years at SMU and then moved into the ACC. I
- 38:13Speaker 1: think the biggest question with this SMU team is I honestly,
- 38:16Speaker 1: I don't know they're gonna get back to eleven wins
- 38:17Speaker 1: this season, but I do see this team getting Bowl
- 38:20Speaker 1: eligible in about the eight win mark. That's there. Their
- 38:22Speaker 1: schedule is manageable. Nevada is awful, Houston Christian BYU is
- 38:26Speaker 1: not very good, and they've got TCUs their big rival game,
- 38:28Speaker 1: but they've got a week off before they play TCU,
- 38:31Speaker 1: and then they kind of get into ACC playing. This
- 38:33Speaker 1: thing's gonna all boil down to do they have the
- 38:37Speaker 1: depth in the trench to manage themselves through a full
- 38:41Speaker 1: season of ACC play because they're gonna see better defensive
- 38:44Speaker 1: line talent than they've seen ever in SMU coming through here.
- 38:48Speaker 1: And so you know, normally they stepped up maybe once
- 38:51Speaker 1: or twice a season and play SMU and some are
- 38:53Speaker 1: tcuns to play somebody else. So I just don't know
- 38:55Speaker 1: how deep this team is on the trench. That's what's
- 38:57Speaker 1: gonna matter to me. But I would I can easily
- 39:00Speaker 1: see this team getting the eight wins this season, and
- 39:02Speaker 1: they're gonna put up some points to Preston Stone, He's
- 39:05Speaker 1: an NFL style quarterback. I think that kid's got a
- 39:08Speaker 1: future in frame. So I like everything about what Retless
- 39:11Speaker 1: she's doing with the Ponies got going here and I've
- 39:13Speaker 1: got them slot to do about eight eight and a half.
- 39:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I agree with you.
- 39:18Speaker 2: It is this is this team got the high end
- 39:20Speaker 2: talent to play in this league, because at the end
- 39:22Speaker 2: of the day, the ACC is still a pretty talented league.
- 39:25Speaker 3: But you know what they miss, all of them. The
- 39:29Speaker 3: only really good team at the top of the league.
- 39:31Speaker 2: They place Florida State at home, and and I'll tell
- 39:34Speaker 2: you that I think Louisville's got to be one of
- 39:36Speaker 2: those teams. So that's it. Everybody else's man. They're TCU,
- 39:41Speaker 2: BYU is their non conference. Those are obviously at TCU
- 39:46Speaker 2: game is a huge game. But they're at Stanford, at Duke,
- 39:50Speaker 2: at Virginia, and at and at Louisville. Boy, could the
- 39:54Speaker 2: ACC have given them an easier road sketchule?
- 39:57Speaker 3: I mean, holy smokes.
- 39:59Speaker 2: And then they're Their home games are Florida State, Pittsburgh,
- 40:02Speaker 2: Boston College, and Cal. They played three of those four
- 40:05Speaker 2: to finish the season. Their last four games, last five
- 40:08Speaker 2: games in the league are at Dude, Pittsburgh at home,
- 40:11Speaker 2: Boston College at home, at Virginia, and at Cal.
- 40:15Speaker 1: That's final the worst teams in the league.
- 40:18Speaker 2: So, I mean, do I think this team's got a
- 40:20Speaker 2: chance to perform at the top of the conference simply
- 40:22Speaker 2: for schedule?
- 40:23Speaker 3: You bet you.
- 40:24Speaker 2: I think that's why so many teams have got That's
- 40:26Speaker 2: why so many predictions have got them picked near the top.
- 40:30Speaker 2: This is a talented enough team, do they have the depth,
- 40:33Speaker 2: but boy, the schedule is certainly easy for them as well.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Next to me, we got did not get gifted a
- 40:39Speaker 1: good schedule from the ACC. The Stanford Cardinal this team
- 40:43Speaker 1: was three and nine last year. They can put up
- 40:45Speaker 1: some points. I do think they will score. I've actually
- 40:48Speaker 1: bet the over it's sixty one and a half in
- 40:51Speaker 1: their opening game against Stanford, I mean against TCU when
- 40:54Speaker 1: they travel out there to play the Trees. But this
- 40:56Speaker 1: schedule bro is brutal. They got every good team in
- 41:01Speaker 1: the se ACC that they could have wanted, and they
- 41:05Speaker 1: picked up Notre Dame along the way. I mean, the
- 41:07Speaker 1: only thing they avoided was Florida State and getting everybody else,
- 41:10Speaker 1: and so I don't have a lot of faith in
- 41:12Speaker 1: this Sanford team. I think you could be looking for
- 41:14Speaker 1: some totals and some overs. But I mean by the
- 41:17Speaker 1: time they get to the winnable part of their schedule
- 41:19Speaker 1: at the back end, like Wake at Cal and at
- 41:22Speaker 1: San Jose State, they may be just totally gassed after
- 41:25Speaker 1: trying to get through September. In early October.
- 41:28Speaker 2: Yeah, they totally screwed these guys on on the road
- 41:33Speaker 2: schedule in the league. I mean, holy smokes. I mean,
- 41:37Speaker 2: they're not gonna They're not gonna win. I mean, I
- 41:39Speaker 2: guess they can win at Syracuse, at Clemson, crushed, at
- 41:43Speaker 2: Notre Dame, crushed at NC State, crushed, They're gonna get
- 41:46Speaker 2: destroyed all three.
- 41:47Speaker 3: Of those games.
- 41:49Speaker 2: You know, they get Wake and SMU and Virginia Tech
- 41:51Speaker 2: at home and Louisville at home. I mean, no favors,
- 41:56Speaker 2: no favors in the league by them. But I do think,
- 41:59Speaker 2: like you, that better football time too. I thought Daniels
- 42:03Speaker 2: was pretty darn good. I thought he was a whole
- 42:07Speaker 2: lot better than I was expecting. This team significantly outperformed it,
- 42:12Speaker 2: so I am I'm fascinated to see how Taylor does.
- 42:18Speaker 2: This team could I think, be significantly better and be
- 42:23Speaker 2: four and eight, five and seven total significantly.
- 42:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna be looking for Stanford that's a week because
- 42:29Speaker 1: they're gonna be getting a ton of points, and you
- 42:31Speaker 1: could get some backdoor covers from the Stanford team because
- 42:34Speaker 1: they're not scared to go. So just keep your mind.
- 42:37Speaker 1: That's the nugget I will give you on Stanford is
- 42:39Speaker 1: look at some of these games and they get to
- 42:41Speaker 1: get some backdoor covers in here.
- 42:43Speaker 2: And I'm gonna and I'm also gonna give you another
- 42:45Speaker 2: one September twenty eight at Clemson.
- 42:47Speaker 3: They play at Syracuse the week before.
- 42:49Speaker 2: At Syracuse and at Clemson back to back. They will
- 42:54Speaker 2: get crushed at Clemson. They're not gonna play. Well, what
- 42:57Speaker 2: are you gonna do? You're gonna fly back across the country.
- 43:00Speaker 2: I wouldn't be in Stanford. You know, they're going to
- 43:03Speaker 2: it's an academic school. They're gonna fly those dudes back
- 43:05Speaker 2: across the country and then turn around and flying back crushed.
- 43:09Speaker 2: They're gonna get They're going to get crushed. That game
- 43:13Speaker 2: marked that on your calendar.
- 43:15Speaker 3: Uh.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Speaking of Syracuse, Syracuse brings in a pretty notable transfer
- 43:18Speaker 1: of Kyle mccorr, who obviously figured out he wasn't gonna
- 43:21Speaker 1: play at Ohio State this last year. Friend Brown taking
- 43:24Speaker 1: over after several years from Dino Babers. Team is six
- 43:27Speaker 1: and seven last year. I kind of see him about
- 43:30Speaker 1: in that same spot this year. I have gotten no
- 43:32Speaker 1: read on Syracuse this season, so I'll throw it to
- 43:35Speaker 1: you and see if you got anything.
- 43:37Speaker 3: You know, I don't have much of a read on
- 43:39Speaker 3: them as well. Uh.
- 43:40Speaker 2: You know, you got a guy who's really been you know, coaching,
- 43:44Speaker 2: you know, who's really who's kind of bounced, you know,
- 43:48Speaker 2: kind of bounced around. The bulk of his work in
- 43:50Speaker 2: the UH is in the NFL. He's been an assistant
- 43:54Speaker 2: several places at A and M he was he was
- 43:59Speaker 2: Buffalo's defense coordinator last year in the NFL, so he's
- 44:03Speaker 2: kind of it's kind of bounced around. I am interested,
- 44:07Speaker 2: to excuse me, the private wrightster defense coordinator. He was
- 44:09Speaker 2: at Buffalo last year. So Brown takes over and doesn't.
- 44:14Speaker 2: I just don't have much of a good feel for
- 44:16Speaker 2: this team, mainly because a lot of state doesn't let
- 44:19Speaker 2: good quarterbacks. League man and McCord won eleven game or
- 44:24Speaker 2: I guess ten games counting the bowl loss, but are
- 44:26Speaker 2: eleven games counting the ball loss? Eleven games in the
- 44:29Speaker 2: regular season last year? And if they just are like
- 44:32Speaker 2: see you, they never even thought about keeping him. He
- 44:36Speaker 2: ain't gonna have that kind of talent around him. And
- 44:39Speaker 2: if they're if they're displeased with the way he played,
- 44:42Speaker 2: what's he gonna do? Walking into this situation as a
- 44:45Speaker 2: major concern for me. So they got a lot of
- 44:49Speaker 2: people back, They got a lot of people that played
- 44:51Speaker 2: a lot of snaps.
- 44:52Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, this team's just
- 44:54Speaker 3: been kind of mad. New coach. I got to get
- 44:57Speaker 3: a read on these guys.
- 44:58Speaker 2: Do I think they could be decent? Yeah, one hundred percent.
- 45:02Speaker 2: And do I think that they may be able to
- 45:03Speaker 2: provide us some value early in the season. But I
- 45:06Speaker 2: gotta watch and see because I just don't know what
- 45:09Speaker 2: we're going going to get, you know, from a guy
- 45:13Speaker 2: who's been at the Rudgers DV coach, et cetera, you know,
- 45:18Speaker 2: and been the Georgia dB coach. What what's that bringing?
- 45:22Speaker 2: What's that bringing to the table for me? And I
- 45:24Speaker 2: just I don't.
- 45:26Speaker 3: I just got to see.
- 45:27Speaker 2: I just don't know enough about him or feel good
- 45:30Speaker 2: enough about Fran Brown to think that, hey, this is
- 45:35Speaker 2: this is the guy who's gonna get it done.
- 45:36Speaker 3: He's really young.
- 45:37Speaker 2: I mean, he played college football in two thousand and six, Mark,
- 45:40Speaker 2: So I don't think anybody really knows about this team.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Next two teams Virginia Virginia Tech. I'm gonna skip UVA.
- 45:47Speaker 1: I got no idea there. I think Tony Elliott gets
- 45:49Speaker 1: fired at the end of the season. That's just my
- 45:52Speaker 1: humble pie opinion. I don't. I watched him play last year.
- 45:55Speaker 1: They weren't very good. But Virginia Tech, let's talk about
- 45:58Speaker 1: them for a second.
- 45:59Speaker 3: Uh.
- 45:59Speaker 1: This was, like I said, in the nineties early two thousands,
- 46:02Speaker 1: was a predominant national powerhouse They've still got an electric
- 46:05Speaker 1: home atmosphere where they walk out there playing inner Sandman.
- 46:09Speaker 1: This team last year turned it around, got back on
- 46:11Speaker 1: the rails, finished seven and six. They return a ton
- 46:15Speaker 1: of talent on this team, and their schedule is very favorable.
- 46:18Speaker 1: They only match up against at Miami and really in Clemson.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Are there two big games that they've got. So they've
- 46:23Speaker 1: got a great shot to put a good record together.
- 46:26Speaker 1: Last year, where they really struggled was was playing good
- 46:28Speaker 1: against good teams. They got beat one hundred and eight
- 46:30Speaker 1: to forty eight when they played the top teams in
- 46:32Speaker 1: the ACC. This year, they don't catch any of them.
- 46:34Speaker 1: And so as a ten win, do you think this
- 46:36Speaker 1: team can compete for the a SEC Championship. Hit ten
- 46:40Speaker 1: wins and you got a shot to get in the
- 46:41Speaker 1: championship tournament.
- 46:43Speaker 2: Yes, I absolutely, one hundred percent. The second most experienced
- 46:46Speaker 2: roster in college football, that's including transfers. So these guys
- 46:52Speaker 2: have played a lot, they have been beat up a
- 46:56Speaker 2: lot over the years. But Buddy, they only lost twelve
- 46:59Speaker 2: letter I mean, that is in today's college football environment
- 47:04Speaker 2: that never happens. And I just I feel really good
- 47:09Speaker 2: about Pride. I think he's done as he has surprised
- 47:13Speaker 2: me more than any coach over the last three years.
- 47:15Speaker 3: I say it like that.
- 47:17Speaker 2: I think he's done a tremendous job coaching this football team.
- 47:21Speaker 2: I think he is positioned himself with this team to
- 47:26Speaker 2: take an explosion forward. Look at those first few games.
- 47:30Speaker 2: Look that's September twenty first game with Rutgers. Because I ain't,
- 47:33Speaker 2: we've already talked about it. I think Rutgers is going to
- 47:35Speaker 2: be significantly better. Is a gigantic game that gets them
- 47:38Speaker 2: to four and oh, then they play at Miami and
- 47:41Speaker 2: at Stanford. That Stanford game is going to be tougher
- 47:43Speaker 2: because of two back.
- 47:44Speaker 3: To back road games. Then they get an off week and.
- 47:47Speaker 2: They play three of the next four at home, Boston College,
- 47:50Speaker 2: Georgia Tech at Syracuse, Clemson at home, and Thursday Night
- 47:54Speaker 2: Boston College is Thursday Night college football.
- 47:57Speaker 3: Enter Sandman, Baby, I ain't.
- 48:01Speaker 2: Cat play is gonna be rocking. There's no chance they
- 48:03Speaker 2: lose that ball game. Then they're at Duke and end
- 48:05Speaker 2: with Virginia. Clemson at home is going to be a
- 48:09Speaker 2: gigantic game, but they got a chance. I think worst case,
- 48:13Speaker 2: worst case, they go five and one down the stretch.
- 48:16Speaker 2: I just told you I think they've got a chance
- 48:18Speaker 2: to win four games to start at Stanford's a potential five.
- 48:22Speaker 3: Yeah, hell yeah. This is a potential ten win team
- 48:24Speaker 3: and a playoff team. Yeah.
- 48:25Speaker 1: If you're looking at your bets, I've already put one
- 48:27Speaker 1: on this because you can still find some at plus money.
- 48:29Speaker 1: There's some books out there that have Virginia Tech at
- 48:32Speaker 1: eight and a half with plus money. I like that
- 48:34Speaker 1: as far as my play for the ACC. If you
- 48:37Speaker 1: can get plus one fifteen, plus one twenty on eight
- 48:39Speaker 1: and a half wins, I think if this team stays healthy,
- 48:42Speaker 1: you'll have a great shot to hit that number, and
- 48:44Speaker 1: if you have to, maybe hedge out there at the end.
- 48:46Speaker 1: But I think they, like I said, their last four
- 48:48Speaker 1: games Syracuse, Clemson, Duke in Virginia, they're gonna go three
- 48:52Speaker 1: and one through that stretch, and so I just think
- 48:55Speaker 1: the schedule's very manageable for this Virginia Tech team. They're
- 48:59Speaker 1: gonna step up, they're gonna play well. You and I
- 49:01Speaker 1: got shots on him to win this league at eight
- 49:03Speaker 1: nine to one. So I'm in let's roll Okie's baby
- 49:06Speaker 1: innercend man, last team in the conference. Brother Dave Clawson's
- 49:10Speaker 1: got he's been there forever ten years at Wake Forest.
- 49:14Speaker 1: I got nothing here, bro, if you want to dive
- 49:16Speaker 1: into it, I mean, Hank Bachmeer's coming back to play quarterback.
- 49:19Speaker 1: I have no faith in that guy whatsoever. He has
- 49:22Speaker 1: just not been great along the way.
- 49:23Speaker 2: He was awful at LA Tech. He was awful. I
- 49:27Speaker 2: watched him about three times. He was terrible and so
- 49:30Speaker 2: I mean, oh, just terrible. And I thought Comby might
- 49:33Speaker 2: do a decent job. You know, he did such a
- 49:36Speaker 2: nice job on finishing up h you know at Tech
- 49:41Speaker 2: when when they made the change.
- 49:44Speaker 3: Beat Mississippi State in the bowl game.
- 49:45Speaker 2: I thought, man, this is this is a He's got
- 49:49Speaker 2: to take that l Tech job.
- 49:50Speaker 3: He may do a great job.
- 49:51Speaker 2: Brings in Bachmeyer, who had a ton of ability and
- 49:53Speaker 2: was just nah. Last year's gonna end up probably costing
- 49:56Speaker 2: Comby's job. But the I just I got nothing. I
- 50:01Speaker 2: got nothing. I got nothing here. I mean, this is
- 50:04Speaker 2: year six, this is year six for Blackmeier. I mean again,
- 50:09Speaker 2: you got a six year guy.
- 50:10Speaker 3: Surely this guy's gonna have a good season. They've got
- 50:14Speaker 3: a lot of people back. But man, I just do
- 50:17Speaker 3: not feel good.
- 50:18Speaker 2: I mean, when you schedule the rebels for for homecoming.
- 50:23Speaker 2: You don't have a lot of faith in your in
- 50:26Speaker 2: your outcome, so you know, look, God love them. I'll
- 50:29Speaker 2: be I'll be wearing black and gold that weekend. But
- 50:32Speaker 2: I don't think it's gonna be very.
- 50:34Speaker 3: Good for UH.
- 50:36Speaker 2: And I just at the rest of the schedule, I
- 50:38Speaker 2: just don't like at n C State, Cleansing and home UH.
- 50:41Speaker 2: They play back to back road games and they go
- 50:43Speaker 2: to Stanford, that could be trouble. They're at North Carolina
- 50:47Speaker 2: at Miami. Yeah, there's some games. I do think this
- 50:50Speaker 2: team because I love Dave Paulson.
- 50:52Speaker 3: I think he's a good football coach.
- 50:54Speaker 2: I think they got a chance to get ball eligible.
- 50:58Speaker 2: Chance way chance, got a chance, got a chance. I'm
- 51:04Speaker 2: not gonna bet on it, but I think they got
- 51:06Speaker 2: a chance.
- 51:07Speaker 1: You can catch them at under four and a half
- 51:09Speaker 1: wins at plus one twenty A lot of books right now,
- 51:13Speaker 1: and that's a bet I might make. We'll see. I
- 51:15Speaker 1: haven't gotten there yet, Scotty. The acc to me is
- 51:17Speaker 1: going to be interesting. I think they have a chance
- 51:20Speaker 1: to get three teams in, which is surprising to me.
- 51:23Speaker 1: But I think you're gonna have a Clemson, a Miami
- 51:27Speaker 1: and then somewhere in C State, Florida State, I don't know, Louisville.
- 51:34Speaker 1: I think they got a chance to get three teams
- 51:36Speaker 1: in the tournament, but I could be dead wrong. What
- 51:38Speaker 1: are your thoughts.
- 51:40Speaker 2: I think Clemson, Florida State, Miami. I think one, possibly
- 51:46Speaker 2: two of those teams has got a legitimate, legitimate chance.
- 51:50Speaker 2: And then I would also tell you that I think
- 51:52Speaker 2: n C State and Virginia Tech have both got chances
- 51:56Speaker 2: as well. So I think you got five teams that
- 51:59Speaker 2: have got potential to get into a twelve team playoff.
- 52:02Speaker 2: Do I think obviously, I don't think all of them
- 52:04Speaker 2: make it. Do I think two, possibly three can do
- 52:07Speaker 2: it one hundred percent. Because I also think that the
- 52:09Speaker 2: SEC may eat some of itself alive as well, And
- 52:14Speaker 2: I don't know that there's four or five teams getting
- 52:16Speaker 2: in from the SEC.
- 52:17Speaker 3: You look at these preseason.
- 52:18Speaker 2: Rankings and you're looking at one team out that's not
- 52:22Speaker 2: from the SEC or the Big ten, outside the top ten.
- 52:26Speaker 3: I don't know that.
- 52:26Speaker 2: That's gonna be the case at the end of the year,
- 52:28Speaker 2: because I think there's gonna be a I think there's
- 52:30Speaker 2: gonna be some teams that eat each other alive as well.
- 52:32Speaker 2: So yes, I think I think you got the potential
- 52:34Speaker 2: for Big twelve. Couple of Big twelve teams, like we
- 52:37Speaker 2: talked about Utah, I think they got a chance to
- 52:38Speaker 2: sneak in. But I think there's five teams in this
- 52:41Speaker 2: league that have got a chance to make the playoff
- 52:43Speaker 2: that that's a legitimate goal for them.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I would agree, but I think two teams will
- 52:48Speaker 1: be what we see and you're gonna get that two
- 52:50Speaker 1: and a half if I had to bet it, if
- 52:51Speaker 1: it was a two and a half, I think that's
- 52:53Speaker 1: the number. But I think there's five teams that could
- 52:56Speaker 1: compete to win this conference to get in as we
- 52:58Speaker 1: see that rolls out. So only guy there, Scotta, it's
- 53:01Speaker 1: been good. Hit us up on Twitter, give us some lice,
- 53:04Speaker 1: give us some shares. As we'll keep rolling through. Next week,
- 53:06Speaker 1: we'll start putting out all the Group of five content.
- 53:09Speaker 1: I'm excited.
- 53:10Speaker 3: Man.
- 53:10Speaker 1: We are right there on the CUSPO college football season.
- 53:13Speaker 1: And so with that being said, folks, stay safe, put
- 53:16Speaker 1: a few ducats in your pockets, and we look forward
- 53:17Speaker 1: talking to you next time.
