- 0:00Eight fifty thirteen ten WIBA, a little over a week away from broadfaest.
- 0:06Oh yeah, it's going to be a great, great year at Broadfast.
- 0:10We'll talk about entertainment and some of the other events going on at Broadfast.
- 0:14And joining us this morning is Jeff Schrader of course with Broadfast and Jeff before
- 0:19we get rolling on all the just cool things, and you know who doesn't
- 0:23love Broadfast, Let's talk real quick about volunteer opportunities. I know for organizations,
- 0:29they've got their applications and there's a number of fantastic charities folks can volunteer
- 0:34to work for or work their work hours go to. Let's talk about how
- 0:39that kind of all works when it comes to volunteers. Jeff, oh sure,
- 0:44I'd love to. And thanks again for having us on. You know,
- 0:47it wouldn't be a Broadfast without kicking it off on thirteen yet. Now
- 0:51I know it's really I know it's here when we have our conversation and tell
- 0:57you what's going on and what's newest broadcastppreciate it. Yeah, we're I'm on
- 1:03Willow Island right now. Kevincaff and I are marking tenth with a GPS unit
- 1:10and we've got the broad ten going up. We'll be working for the next
- 1:14three days, four days, and we'll all the way up until next Thursday
- 1:18getting this place ready for all of our volunteers and all of our guests.
- 1:23The volunteer situation has always been a challenge, you know, and this year
- 1:29we're not bad. On Friday and Saturday. We've still got some spots open
- 1:34both for set up as well as during the festival and teardowns, so there's
- 1:38there's opportunity for charities to earn money. And to the way it works,
- 1:45as you've asked, is that a volunteer organization or any individual volunteer signs up
- 1:51for a three hour shift for example, and then we raised the money that
- 1:56we pay to the charity to twelve dollars an hour this year just to help
- 2:00encourage for participation and that charity. We paid to the charity that twelve dollars,
- 2:06and the volunteer earns money for their charity or they pick one of the
- 2:09broadcast Broadfast charities to donate their time too. And that's how we raise one
- 2:16hundred, one hundred and twenty thousand dollars, probably a little bit more this
- 2:20year over it's done two point seventy five million since we started, and this
- 2:25is over forty over forty years now we've been raising funds for the charities in
- 2:30the Dame County area. And it's a lot of fun and a great way
- 2:35to kick off summer. And it's a great way for families to get together
- 2:38and you know, show the people in their family, the children as are
- 2:44growing up, just you know, how to do something for something other than
- 2:47yourself and provide for a good cause. It is. It's a fantastic cause.
- 2:53It's a great great weekend of events course Memorial Day weekend out on Willow
- 2:57Island. It is broadcast more informationvolunteer opportunities, uh a different event opportunities,
- 3:02musical lineups as well, all available at broughtfest dot com. That's brought Fest
- 3:07all one word dot com. All that information right there on the website.
- 3:12And it's interesting, Jeffrey, when you mentioned, uh, the GPS stuff,
- 3:15I someth that is that is something that has never dawned on me,
- 3:19is when you guys walk out there, Uh, you've got a blank slate
- 3:23and but you've got to kind of put together this this puzzle and for folks
- 3:27like for example, what take your Brought to Work Day, which is one
- 3:30of the most most finely tuned machines in all of Madison. How everything flows
- 3:37that day. It is It is impressive to watch. But it's weird now,
- 3:38as when you mentioned that, it's weird to think that there's a that
- 3:42there is a point where that plan is like we are literally starting with a
- 3:45blank slate and it's such a such a fantastic thing. And of course take
- 3:49You're Brought to Work Day. For folks who don't know, let's talk a
- 3:52little bit about that event. Well, you know, to your point on
- 3:57the GPS, Yeah, we Kevin and I would come out and we would
- 4:01line up the corner of the big broadcast sixty by one hundred and twenty with
- 4:06a couple of trees, and once we would line it up, then we
- 4:10kind of mark it off. And once we got that set, then the
- 4:12rest of the festival kind of revolved around that. And then we decided,
- 4:16well, why don't we use a GPS. And his friend at Nighter Excavating
- 4:21came out and he GPS did. We came out the next year they cut
- 4:26down the trees. I mean, if we hadn't GPS, it we'd still
- 4:30be here trying to figure out where to start. And yeah, now it
- 4:34goes pretty well now and the take you're brought to work day is it's an
- 4:39amazing you know. We get out here about three thirty four in the morning
- 4:43and on Friday the twenty fourth, and everything's set up so that we have
- 4:47a couple of lines for large orders and small orders. I mean, if
- 4:50you want one brat, you can drive through. If you want one hundred
- 4:55brots you can drive through. It does help if you have bigger orders.
- 4:58The pre orders so that we can get I'm ready for you. And between
- 5:01six and nine we'll probably do twenty thousand brats and probably another ten thousand between
- 5:11nine o'clock and noon we have delivered. So we work with an organization called
- 5:15Do Good Wisconsin that delivers brats to businesses all over town. And all that
- 5:20you have to do is call in and he'll bring one hundred and two hundred
- 5:24broads to your business and you can treat the office and have a picnic and
- 5:29celebrate the Memorial Day for all this glory kicking off again this Friday, the
- 5:33twenty fourth, running through the Memorial Day weekend. It is broadfast It's back,
- 5:39brought to you by Johnsonville and Metcalfs and Jeffrey. You mentioned Kevin.
- 5:44I love seeing both of you out there. You know, there's never a
- 5:47slow moment. There is just so much great stuff going on. Let's talk
- 5:51about some of the music I know here at thirteen ten WIBA, we'll have
- 5:54an opportunity for folks to win some VIP passes to see the Village People.
- 5:59They're one of the headliners. You've got a little something for absolutely everybody when
- 6:02it comes to music, don't you. I think it's one of the best
- 6:06lineups that we've had yet. I think I say that every year. But
- 6:10Michael Alexander is our music director, and we've got Village People. On Friday
- 6:15Night we've got Bobaflex. Saturday we have Lanco and then Quiet Riot. That
- 6:19will be a night. I mean that Saturday night, it's gonna be a
- 6:23great night as well. Sunday we've got Neil McCoy and then we've got Tiger
- 6:29Lilly Gold, a couple of young ladies from Nashville that has two Country Music
- 6:34Awards nomination, one for Best Album and one for Best Song. They finished
- 6:42in the top five. I'm really looking forward to that. Actually, their
- 6:46seventy five bands, three days of free music, free live music, and
- 6:54I mean I anticipate this is going to be a crazy weekend. It should
- 6:59be great. Folks. Got time to plan forward, get everything ready,
- 7:02whether it's getting stuff ready to place your order for take your brought to Work
- 7:05Day. If you're gonna do a big order, you're gonna do a small
- 7:08one or a big one. You can still just head through. But as
- 7:12Jeffrey mentions, if you got a big one, it helps a lot to
- 7:15pre order just so they are ready for you. And again it's a well
- 7:17oiled machine kicking off with take your broad to Work Day and then running through
- 7:21the entire weekend music events. Great things for the family and a fantastic charity.
- 7:26Jeff thank you so much for all you guys. Do say hi to
- 7:29Kevin for me as well this morning, and look forward to seeing you at
- 7:31Broadfast coming up in just about a week from now. Well, I appreciate
- 7:36it. I appreciate the opportunity of sale or everyone. And now I know
- 7:41Broadfast is coming because we had this discoversation. It's official. Jeffrey sure Schrader
- 7:46with Broadcast the website, and I did that too. You know, every
- 7:48year I've I've got to get your name, your last name wrong one time
