- 1:24SPEAKER_04: You go.
- 1:26SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: So because he tells it better.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: I was um, are you guys familiar with United Insurance?
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: The debit account.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: So uh I was working with United Insurance.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: I got an insurance through um combined insurance.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: I was first, I first started selling cars, sold a uh branch manager uh a set a Chevy Suburban.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: He asked, you know, what I liked about the job, what I dislike about the job.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: I told him uh what I like is the unlimited earning potential commission, right?
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: And but I said, what I hated is I'm here all day from 8 30 to 8, and majority of it is downtime.
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: So what he told me was, what if I could uh provide the same earning potential, but give you your time back?
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: And I said, Well, what do I gotta do?
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: He said, You know anything about insurance?
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: I said, no.
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: First thing I said is I don't have a degree.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: He said, You don't need a degree.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: He said, I need an insurance license, right?
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: So, and I'm going somewhere with this.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: So uh I said, Well, what would I gotta do?
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: He said, I got some great news.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: Well, he actually what he did was he said, here's a link to our company, and here's a link to some study guides of what you can choose to learn how to uh apply and get your insurance and what that looks like, and then also what the industry's about.
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: So he gave me all that information.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: So we fed, you know, we go through that fast forward.
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: Um he said, I got some good news, some bad news, because I called him back and said, I want to do it.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: He said, The good news is we got uh sales school starting in three weeks.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: The bad news is you gotta get licensed before you go.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: So in the midst of that, uh I he's I I told him, I said, Well, let me get back to you.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: And so I told my sales manager at the car sales, well, I got an opportunity.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: He said, I'm gonna tell you, here in car sales, if you're looking to go, you might as well go now.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: He said, it's no hard feelings.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: We appreciate the opportunity.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: Uh I told him, I appreciate the opportunity, or whatever.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: He said, But you have a good opportunity to go ahead and do that.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: So what I ended up doing, I didn't have insurance.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: I mean, I didn't have uh internet at home.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: So I spent eight hours a day studying at Dell Tech.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: So I took it like a job, you know, eight hours from nine to five.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: I'm at Dell Tech, right?
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: So get there, go through all that, schedule the test, pass it, call them.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: Hey, I passed the test this Friday, Sunday.
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: I was on the plane to Chicago.
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: That's how I got an insurance, and I was with uh um uh it was ace Aeon now, but it's combined insurance.
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:54SPEAKER_02: All right, so fast forward, I'm working with the debit uh company, United Insurance, right?
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: I knew nothing about a debit uh company, but I was um up in Dover, met the uh branch manager for the area, and she said, You're insurance?
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: We're looking for some salespeople.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: She said, actually, I can help.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: Looking at you, I can tell you'll probably be a manager within a few months.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: So when I heard that, I was like, okay, what do I gotta do?
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: Again, I'm I'm seizing the opportunity, baby.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: So, you know what I mean?
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: I went up, went on, you know, filled out application.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: I'm working with them.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: So, how do me and her meet?
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: United insurance is in Salisbury.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: So on Wednesdays, we will come in for a sales meeting and to turn in the money that we received.
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: Because again, as a debit account, you gotta go pick up the money, which is a whole different beast within itself, but you learn some great things in it, right?
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: And um, I was salesman of the uh um year for the area.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: Um they had this thing called uh uh Olympic salesman, and I was silver.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: I was like, five policies from gold, I didn't even know about it, right?
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: So I'm killing, I mean, I'm killing everything.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: Um money.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: So we had the when you get cash, if you got cash, you had to go turn it in and get a money order.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: Well, uh the uh uh Walmart is right there, like so Walmart's here, and then the building's behind it, right?
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: So I was going in to get money orders.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: And I was at the money center.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: And she was working at the money center.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: The money center, right?
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: So initially we see each other, and it wasn't, you know, um, I wasn't flirting or doing anything.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: We just saw each other, and we will, you know, I mean, it's a few times that we would see each other.
- 5:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you come in there flashing a smile.
- 5:36SPEAKER_05: And so I smile at everybody.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: So uh we we go in, and um one particular time I see her, I don't know if you were at the money center, you were somewhere, but when I was behind the counter.
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: Anyway, I walk by, I go and I say, hi, how you doing?
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: But I see her reading the ASFAB book.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: Now, if you're doing if you're not familiar with the ASFA, the ASFAB is what you take to go into the military.
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: First off, you're reading this, this is dry.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: I was reading this.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: So I know that you're trying to get to the military.
- 6:10SPEAKER_02: I know that.
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: So when I see that, you know, I'm a military vet, I'm Air Force.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: So I said, okay, cool.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: I see you reading ASFA, you're trying to go to the military.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: What branch are you looking at?
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: She said, the army.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: Hold up.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: I'm already biased because I'm Air Force.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: Oh, God.
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: So that was the initial thing.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: And then she told me she wanted to be a cop in an army.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: I said, absolutely.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: So, you know what I mean?
- 6:35SPEAKER_02: Her background is criminal justice, right?
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: So I didn't know that at the time.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: I'm thinking the MPs, they're deployed first 18 months out of the year.
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: They're deployed from 12 to 18 months at that time because you're in wartime.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: We're still at war.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: Uh, Afghanistan and I and Iraq.
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: So, I mean, the Air Force, uh security forces, they're going six to uh eight months.
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: And it's a ret it's like a just you're constantly recurring that cycle.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: Army, again, 12 to 18 months.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: Come home for a year, whatever, you'll go right back.
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: So in my mind, I'm trying to protect her and say, are you sure you want to do that route?
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: If you are gonna go that way out, maybe go Air Force.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: You know, well, definitely Air Force.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: So I give her my card.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: Sorry.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: You give her your card.
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: Give her my card.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: I said, here, call me because I had to get to the office.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: Call me.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: Call me.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: So we can talk.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: About yeah.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so I think, you know what I mean?
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: Better explain to you what's going on and make sure you make the right decision.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: I'm honestly being genuine.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: Not flirting, I'm not doing anything.
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: Two hours go by, I get a text.
- 7:46SPEAKER_02: I'm on the road.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: I get a text.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: Uh, hello, Mr.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: Benson.
- 7:51SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 7:52SPEAKER_02: I said, okay.
- 7:54SPEAKER_02: I said, who's this?
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: Oh, this is precious.
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: Bet.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: So from that, from that text message, we've never stopped talking.
- 8:02SPEAKER_05: Oh, every day.
- 8:04SPEAKER_05: Every day.
- 8:05SPEAKER_02: We've never stopped talking.
- 8:07SPEAKER_02: And so a lot of ups and downs in the midst of it.
- 8:11SPEAKER_02: Um, so she foregoed the military, but she still was trying to get into law enforcement.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: So she was actually, uh, she actually applied for, I think, Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Baltimore City, because her family's from Baltimore.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: Here's the devastating piece about that.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: In the midst of it, she was working at Walmart and she was working at uh Comfort Suites in Seaford overnight.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: Oh wow.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: Overnight.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: I get this call.
- 8:40SPEAKER_02: I get this call.
- 8:42SPEAKER_02: Um, it's like two or three in the morning.
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: She's screaming.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: They found my brother.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: She was looking for a brother.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: Her brother was murdered.
- 8:53SPEAKER_02: She tapped into a detective that was over there that was able to find the case.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: And he'd been gone for a few months.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: Nobody knew where he was at.
- 9:03SPEAKER_02: And so um, actually, uh I I jumped ahead, I'm sorry.
- 9:09SPEAKER_02: Um, we had a weekend where she needed to get to Baltimore, right?
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: And this is all part of it, she wanted to see her family, she needed to see what's going on with her brother.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: This is before we found out about it.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: And so um she had a vehicle, situation went down where she couldn't uh uh use the vehicle, and she needed to get over there.
- 9:27SPEAKER_02: And I was like, well, I'll take you.
- 9:29SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: I'll give you a ride.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: I'll give you a ride who wasn't the big deal.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: Because at the time, you know what I mean?
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: I'm on a ride, and uh, you know, if I if I go back into the story, I was going through a divorce, so I was married.
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: I was married at 18.
- 9:42SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was married at 18.
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: Graduation, married, Air Force.
- 9:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, literally.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: Graduated like May 31st, married June uh 29th.
- 9:55SPEAKER_02: I was a basic training training July 2nd in San Antonio.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: That was my life.
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: That's where, you know, I mean, we I had a conceded daughter through that.
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: And then through the process, when I was um going through the process of the insurance and everything, everything fell apart, the uh uh foreclosure, everything, uh repossession, all this.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: And she meets me in all this chaos.
- 10:22SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 10:22SPEAKER_02: She didn't know that at the time, but it was a bunch of chaos that was going on.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: And so me selling insurance was me staying away from all that.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: That's why I was, you know what I mean?
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: I'm up 10 o'clock at night.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: I'm writing policies everywhere.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: So um, in the midst of that, we go to Baltimore, we go to Baltimore, and um I meet Aunt Susie.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: I meet Aunt Susie, I meet grandma Lil.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: I think did I meet Aunt Susie first, right?
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because we ended up going to my little cousin football game.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: Trust me, we're gonna somewhere.
- 11:00SPEAKER_02: No, you guys weren't dating yet.
- 11:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, we're still talking, okay, but we're talking strong.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: Okay, yeah.
- 11:05SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 11:05SPEAKER_02: We're talking strong, but I knew she wanted to go see her family.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: And I didn't care, you know what I mean?
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: I'm going to Baltimore or whatever.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: I'm on the road.
- 11:12SPEAKER_02: So I figured I go over there and I come back.
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: So we get there.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: It's like I'm talking to Aunt Susie, I meet grandma Lil, and um, it gets late.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 11:22SPEAKER_02: It's about 10, 11.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: I'm like, okay, well, I'm about to head home.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: I said, you let me know if you need me to come back and get you.
- 11:29SPEAKER_02: Uh so she said, Where are you going?
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: Sure did.
- 11:33SPEAKER_02: I said, um, I'm going nowhere.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: No, you're not.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: You can stay here?
- 11:40SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: I said I gotta get some clothes, so we ended up going somewhere.
- 11:44SPEAKER_05: I got an outfit or whatever the case would be.
- 11:46SPEAKER_05: I feel like we went the next day, or maybe it was early.
- 11:49SPEAKER_05: It was early in the day where she told you you could stay because she realized you were leaving, and we ended up going to the mall.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: So I ended up getting a couple outfits or whatever, and then we went to our cousin's football game the next day or whatever.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: That weekend is what sealed the, I think, like meshed it.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: Because it was like, yo, I'm feeling her, she's feeling me.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: The family's cool, because they was challenging me.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: She got a grumpy old uncle, you know what I mean?
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: He loves that, you know, he challenged everybody.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: He don't play about none of his nieces or his daughters.
- 12:19SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: Like, who's this dude?
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: And very much.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: I'm dead serious.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: You gotta come to the barbecue so you can meet Uncle Mel.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: He's very much that way.
- 12:27SPEAKER_02: He's this dude.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: And so um, so that weekend passed, and I I think the next week is when we found out about her uh brother being killed, and then she had to go back, and so she was there for like a week or whatever, trying to sort some things out for her mom, because you know, you had to think lost her kids.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: I had to tell her, yeah.
- 12:46SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 12:46SPEAKER_02: It's a whole bunch of just a whole bunch of stuff.
- 12:49SPEAKER_02: So um we're talking all through that.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: We're talking all through that.
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: Come back and um we solidify it.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm I'm divorced at this time.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: Um, we solidify it when my I never let her meet my daughter, but the first time she did meet my daughter, King is three or four, she gets right up in her arms.
- 13:09SPEAKER_02: Oh, because I wanted her to meet my dad.
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: So it's very important that she met my family.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: And she just sat and I was like, that's it.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: That was it.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: I was sold on that.
- 13:19SPEAKER_02: Because I was still, and she knew this, I was still running around a little bit, you know what I mean, trying to date, trying to figure some things out or whatever.
- 13:25SPEAKER_02: And she was like, I ain't gonna nowhere.
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: You can do what you gotta do, or whatever.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: But she's like, I like you.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: Like, I feel like we can do something.
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: But when I saw that, everybody else got cut off.
- 13:37SPEAKER_02: I was like, ain't no need to, you know what I mean, messing that up.
- 13:40SPEAKER_04: Aww.
- 13:40SPEAKER_05: I never need a story.
- 13:42SPEAKER_05: I know it's a long story.
- 13:43SPEAKER_05: I was like, No, because we don't, we don't really talk.
- 13:46SPEAKER_05: Unless people ask, like, we share.
- 13:48SPEAKER_05: We don't share.
- 13:49SPEAKER_05: I mean, I feel like we went from like talking, I I we actually just had this conversation yesterday.
- 13:54SPEAKER_05: I was like, we were never like boyfriend, girlfriend.
- 13:56SPEAKER_05: It was like we went from talking to Mary.
- 13:58SPEAKER_05: Like it really, that's just how the the flow went.
- 14:01SPEAKER_05: Like we never, I never introduced like this is my boyfriend.
- 14:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it was just like this is Jeff, and like they knew who he was to me.
- 14:08SPEAKER_05: It didn't have to be a title placed on it.
- 14:10SPEAKER_05: It just it was what it was.
- 14:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: Here's here's the solid killer about that, right?
- 14:15SPEAKER_05: Oh my god.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: What if everything you've been taught about success is wrong?

- 14:39SPEAKER_02: We ended up uh well, we were in church, you spiritual guys.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: Um so um so you ended up going to church with me, began to come to church with me.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: Um, we had the spirituality piece of it, and God spoke.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: We came up for prayer, right?
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: And guys spoke.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: And he was like, God said yes.
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: And then he said again, God said yes.
- 15:09SPEAKER_05: I was like, all right.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: He made her for you.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: God said yes.
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: Because you know what I mean.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: I'm still in my mind.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: You know, I got a whole bunch of stuff.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: You're trying to figure it out.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: I'm still trying to figure it out.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: I'm like, yo, I'm not trying to jump back into a relationship.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, still heartbroken from the divorce, you know, just a whole bunch of stuff.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: And so that kind of like sealed it for me.
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: I mean, what else can you do?
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: You got the answer.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: And so um, a few months go by.
- 15:36SPEAKER_02: We ended up telling our pastor, I said, yo, I think we're ready, go ahead and get married.
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: Because we was, you know, we were deep in our faith at that time.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: So um, we ended up getting our license, got married on a Sunday after church.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: It was my brother and his uh girlfriend at the time and two of our uh good friends, right?
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: That was only witnesses.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: Nobody knew we were married for two years.
- 16:01SPEAKER_05: Not until we invited them to the baby shower for Chris.
- 16:04SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 16:04SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 16:06SPEAKER_05: So people were so upset with us, they were so mad.
- 16:08SPEAKER_05: I bet you it was so good though.
- 16:09SPEAKER_05: Oh my god, yes.
- 16:11SPEAKER_05: Nobody knew.
- 16:12SPEAKER_05: You know, we had the opportunity to go through things together because like you're still one, you're in you're in your faith, right?
- 16:17SPEAKER_05: You're gonna get tested.
- 16:18SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 16:19SPEAKER_05: We tested non-stop.
- 16:20SPEAKER_05: And like we were able to grow and go through those things together without everyone else's opinion on how we should handle certain situations.
- 16:27SPEAKER_05: Like it was so sweet.
- 16:29SPEAKER_05: Like, I wish we didn't tell nobody.
- 16:31SPEAKER_05: Like it was so nice.
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: We nobody knew two years.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: Two years.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: I circle a trust, and I'll tell this to any couple.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: They were so me, my wife, and my kids.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: Everybody else is outsiders, and it's not in a bad way.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: But we don't let nothing penetrate us.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: We don't let your opinion penetrate us.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: You can't tell her one thing that she probably already knows, or vice versa.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, nobody's gonna be able to ever penetrate what we got going on.
- 16:59SPEAKER_02: We break up, it's because we mess up, yeah.
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: Not because any outsiders.
- 17:02SPEAKER_02: And I tell any couple, you have to do that.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: Because your family, they mean well, but they also want to meddle sometimes.
- 17:10SPEAKER_02: And so once they know that that's there, they don't bring no nonsense to us.
- 17:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: Actually, they're looking for us for inspiration and help us and guide us and some different things because we made that known clear from them.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: Once they learn, yeah, you can't penetrate this.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: And that's family and friends.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's family.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: And so you'll have that feel some type of way.
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: And even, you know, I mean, I know my parents felt some type of way because you know, you're close or whatever.
- 17:34SPEAKER_02: Um, and but then my mom, she just got remarried like two, she just celebrated a second anniversary.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: Guess what?
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: She did the same thing.
- 17:41SPEAKER_02: I tell her the same thing.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: Y'all go, we don't call her for anything.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:46SPEAKER_02: She's in marital bliss, she's waited 34 years from the divorce of my father to be remarried.
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: She's traveling the world, he has her everywhere, and I enjoy it.
- 17:57SPEAKER_02: People, how's your mom doing?
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: Oh, she's still in the honeymoon phase.
- 18:01SPEAKER_04: The honeymoon phase don't end.
- 18:02SPEAKER_04: It does not.
- 18:03SPEAKER_04: It does not.
- 18:04SPEAKER_04: You just mature, you mature into it.
- 18:05SPEAKER_02: You mature into it.
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: So that was, you know what I mean?
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: We was married for two years, nobody knew it.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: And then in the midst of it, then it was like, oh, you know what I mean?
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: That's precious than Jeff.
- 18:14SPEAKER_02: If I'm not there, where's Jeff at?
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: If she's not with me, where's precious at?
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: And that's everywhere.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: Because everything that I'm a part of, everything that I'm a part of.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: From school board to serving on other boards, she's with me.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: And it's bad.
- 18:27SPEAKER_05: If I'm not there, I'm getting messages like, where are you at?
- 18:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 18:30SPEAKER_05: Who cares about you, Jeff?
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: She comes with me.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: So when we're at conferences, when we're at the Big Eye Conference or school board conference, she's with me.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: You get what I'm saying?
- 18:41SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't like to go home and she's not next to me, or I don't sleep in hotels well.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: So I need her more.
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: You get what I'm saying?
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: We'll figure out the kids' situation.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: She can work from the hotel, whatever, but like I need her beside me.
- 18:54SPEAKER_04: So it's a full partnership.
- 18:56SPEAKER_04: It is.
- 18:57SPEAKER_04: Now talk a little bit about your dynamics.
- 18:59SPEAKER_04: Because you know, because sometimes when people think of power couples, they think of people who are working side by side, the same industry, the same thing.
- 19:06SPEAKER_04: But there's different dynamics to power couples.
- 19:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:09SPEAKER_04: There's one who builds the business, one stays home.
- 19:11SPEAKER_04: There's one who builds two separate empires, right?
- 19:13SPEAKER_04: So there's different dynamics when it comes to a power couple.
- 19:16SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 19:16SPEAKER_04: So how would you explain your dynamic as a power couple?
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: Again, I would say uh what works for us, works for us.
- 19:23SPEAKER_02: Everything we have, and I'm pretty sure it's probably the same with you, just assuming from bank accounts to everything.
- 19:32SPEAKER_02: She knows everything about me.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 19:36SPEAKER_02: I go to the doctor, chances are she's gonna be there.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: Because us as men, a lot of times we don't go and indulge every single thing.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: Hey, such and such was happening.
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: What's this mean?
- 19:48SPEAKER_02: You know, yes, yes, yes.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: When I say we are a partnership, we are a full partnership.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: So what that means is it's been times where she took the backseat.
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: She took the backseat, not that I asked her.
- 20:05SPEAKER_02: She was being a wife and saying, This is what my husband needs.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: I see what his ambitions are.
- 20:09SPEAKER_02: And so I'm going to support him and everything of what that means.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: So whether it's money is slim on his side, I'm making sure that the family is covered, and this is even before going into business, um, making sure we're good there, and we ain't gonna argue about money.
- 20:28SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: I don't care if we broke, broke, broke.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: And we've been broke, broke.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: Broke.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: We will not argue about money.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: You good, I'm good, we'll get through it.
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 20:39SPEAKER_02: The kids.
- 20:39SPEAKER_02: Whatever dynamics you're going through with the kids as you're going through these teenage years, they're gonna challenge you.
- 20:45SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: In the midst of it.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: Y'all can't break us.
- 20:49SPEAKER_02: We good.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: You can't play us.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: You're not gonna play us against each other.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: What did the mom say?
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: Because she ran the household.
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: When COVID hit, she was the principal.
- 21:00SPEAKER_02: I was the assistant.
- 21:02SPEAKER_02: Whatever she said, go.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: I don't care what you what did mom say?
- 21:07SPEAKER_02: We do that because you have to do it.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: Sometimes you get tricked up or whatever, but they know you you ain't gonna be able to play us in the midst of it because we're gonna talk with each other and it's gonna be hell to pay if you know what I mean, find out something else was different.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: So you don't play that game.
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: So in the midst of that, when I was telling you she's a part of everything I do, um, when I join a board, I tell them, look, I understand I had this commitment or whatever, but my family's gonna be with me.
- 21:35SPEAKER_02: So when we have fundraisers or, you know, outside of the board meetings, different things, they're gonna be with me.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: Is that okay?
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, no problem.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: Cool.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: Long as we're cool with that, because if they're if you're not okay with that, I can't be a part of what you got going on.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: It's the same way with her.
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: She has every credential that I have.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: Mine is a doctorate, but she's gonna have that.
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: So I serve on the C for school board.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: She served on um SAS's school board, right?
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Um, I was on the at the Boys and Girls Club in Georgetown.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: She was at Weston Sussex Boys and Girls Club.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: I had a governor appointment, she had a governor appointment.
- 22:07SPEAKER_02: We both we both served as honorary commanders for the Dover Air Force Base for uh uh the um Department of Defense.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: Just when I say like everything that I do, she does, or vice versa.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: We support each other in that exchange or whatever the case may be.
- 22:25SPEAKER_02: So now I'm at this uh point of now I gotta support them.
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: Because they supported me through campaigns and different things of that nature.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: I gotta make sure she's good when it comes to writing this dissertation because it's a beast.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: You ain't never did it before.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: The research and what that looks like.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: So, you know, I mean, we work in tandem with that um to make sure that she gets over the goalposts with that, and then also making sure we was um uh I'm part of, well, with my role at the uh as a school board member, I have other duties, right?
- 22:56SPEAKER_02: So we was at a luncheon, and I said, Look, you're coming with me, which wasn't a big deal, because we were supposed to be in DC, but I got sick.
- 23:04SPEAKER_02: So she was so I said, but here's the thing there's gonna be individuals you need to talk to to make sure you get information for your dissertation or whatever.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: And she works the room, you know what I mean?
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: And I love it.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: I love when she works the room.
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: And so I said, This is such and such or whatever.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: And I said, Here's the Secretary of Education.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: She goes straight up.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: I'm doing it.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: So as soon as she opens her mouth, it's like, you know what I mean, the atmosphere changes because now I'm interested in what you got going on.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I can help you.
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: I want to help you, you know what I mean?
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: And so they're passing out cards right at the table.
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: It's not even her gig, but she's working the room.
- 23:43SPEAKER_02: But we do that.
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: If we know that we want to get in touch with somebody and they're gonna be at it, I'm researching who's gonna be at this gallow up front, right?
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: And so we go in with a game plan.
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I need to tie this person down.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: That's how we need to do it.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: That's how we do it.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: If I they she see somebody give me go up, get up, go to the bathroom.
- 24:01SPEAKER_02: I'm I can Yeah, I got to go.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: You just got that look.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: I be running.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: That's the dynamic.
- 24:07SPEAKER_02: So when you talk about the power couple, like she's my right arm, my left arm, my right foot, my left foot.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: She's everything to me.
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: I can't mess it up.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: So that's how I feel in the midst of it.
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: So we're protecting each other in the midst of it, but also trying to highlight each other's strengths.
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: So um, she's taught me uh a great deal.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: Like we we've been together, we're we'll be married uh 14 years.
- 24:31SPEAKER_02: 14 years in October.
- 24:32SPEAKER_02: In October.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: We may have had five arguments, maybe.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: We don't argue.
- 24:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: One, because I told you about my last, the last two years of that, I argued every day.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: Every single day.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: I said, I'll never go back to that.
- 24:48SPEAKER_02: I'll never go back to that.
- 24:50SPEAKER_02: To the point where sometimes it could be a detriment where it's like, you need to talk about different things, I'll shut down.
- 24:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: I've grown in that where, okay, let's talk.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: What are you, what are you trying to say?
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:01SPEAKER_02: What is it that you're asking me?
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: Sometimes you get snippy, you have a bad day or whatever.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: She said, I see you need a moment.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: You can walk away.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: I apologize, get my hug, slap her on the booty, whatever the case.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: I don't want chaos in my house.
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: We gotta fight everything when we walk those doors.
- 25:18SPEAKER_02: When I come home, it's my family.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: Emily.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: Ain't nobody, you ain't bringing no drama.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: The kids, you ain't bringing no drama in.
- 25:27SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: No, I'll put you out.
- 25:31SPEAKER_05: Go on somewhere.
- 25:32SPEAKER_05: So I I guess, right.
- 25:33SPEAKER_05: So that was a lot.
- 25:34SPEAKER_05: You said a lot to that.
- 25:36SPEAKER_05: To answer that question, though, it's I guess is whatever that need is that day.
- 25:39SPEAKER_05: Like whatever is happening that day, and whatever that need is, that's how we attack that.
- 25:43SPEAKER_05: That's how you work together.
- 25:44SPEAKER_05: You don't compete.
- 25:45SPEAKER_05: That's how we tackle that.
- 25:46SPEAKER_05: That's it, no competition at all.
- 25:47SPEAKER_05: There's no competition.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: There's no ego.
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: No, no ego.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: You're not ego at all.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: You're not um I'm competing with each other.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: And you see that sometimes in couples where they're competing.
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: Yo, I want my wife to be bragged about and she's getting promoted.
- 26:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: Winning awards.
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: I feel good.
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: I go home to that.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: I know that she's beautiful, and you know what I mean?
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: You lust after guess what?
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: I go home to her every night.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: And I appreciate it.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: So it's not a big deal for me.
- 26:19SPEAKER_02: I want her to be highlighted.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: If I can big up other people, why can't I praise her?
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: And I praise her often because of what she's doing, and I'm very proud.
- 26:30SPEAKER_02: I know where we came from.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: So when you start from nothing and you see a beautiful um flower that's blooming and you're constantly evolving in your relationship.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: Because each year we try to get better.
- 26:42SPEAKER_02: Some years you got great finances, some years things fall.
- 26:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:46SPEAKER_02: We ain't fell apart.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: I love God stronger.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: We just figure some other things out.
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 26:51SPEAKER_02: Made some mistakes.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: Hey, you deal with death.
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: You're dealing with death.
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: Because as you get older, people die off.
- 26:58SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: So you got to deal with those things.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: We get older, our health starts failing.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: Your body turns.
- 27:05SPEAKER_02: I turned 40 and everything went downhill.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: Your body's changing it.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: It's like, yo, I'm not the same person that I, you know what I mean, I was when I was 20 plus years old, or whatever the case may be.
- 27:15SPEAKER_02: And you don't hold it again.
- 27:16SPEAKER_02: Y'all laugh about different things.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: Even the intimate times.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 27:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:23SPEAKER_05: Like, man, hold up.
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: We have great times in the midst of it.
- 27:31SPEAKER_02: And here's the other thing.
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: As a man, I can't fail.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: You know why?
- 27:36SPEAKER_02: My son is watching me.
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: My nephew and my daughter's watching me, but definitely my son.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: My son mirrors almost everything I do.
- 27:43SPEAKER_02: He mirrors almost everything that I do.
- 27:46SPEAKER_02: And that's actually pressure because his dad is flawed.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: You get what I'm saying?
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: I don't mind showing the flaws, but I gotta show him how much I love his mom, how much I love him, and the time that I spend and the different things.
- 28:00SPEAKER_02: So I can't be out of character.
- 28:02SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 28:02SPEAKER_02: And we were just talking about um bad decisions.
- 28:06SPEAKER_02: Individuals that were super good in sports or whatever that should be pro.
- 28:10SPEAKER_02: From here, I just make some bad decisions.
- 28:13SPEAKER_02: And we were talking about drugs and alcohol.
- 28:15SPEAKER_02: I said, You can't do it.
- 28:16SPEAKER_02: You can't afford to do it.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: No.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: You're trying to be a professional athlete.
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: I said, you want to make me mad, let me find out you're doing something you ain't supposed to be doing.
- 28:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 28:25SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 28:25SPEAKER_02: Drugs and alcohol is a no, no.
- 28:27SPEAKER_02: And then I I told my wife, I said, what I should have told him was alcohol consumption at a certain age.
- 28:33SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: It's okay.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: It's okay.
- 28:35SPEAKER_02: But yeah, you know what I mean?
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: But I needed to drill that into him because drugs will rob you of what your destiny is.
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:43SPEAKER_02: I had an uncle that should be on stages that can play music like no other, but he can't get that monkey off his back.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: And it almost brings tears to me when I hear, you know, certain riffs on the guitar, and I'm like, yo, my uncle, it sounds like it should be him.
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: And there's so many other people.
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: But you you know what I mean?
- 29:03SPEAKER_02: I can't mess up.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: I got people, I got little people that's looking after me.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: I got young men that I'm raising that's not mine through the gentleman's club.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: That need me.
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: You get what I'm saying?
- 29:15SPEAKER_02: Because they don't have the father figure in the house, or I I tell them, I'm like, look, now you're a part of this, you can't even get in trouble, but you are, you know what I mean?
- 29:24SPEAKER_02: You can get in trouble.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: They're gonna call me before you get the referral.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: They'll call me before I need you to talk to your man.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: This is what's going on.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: Sometimes you gotta take the the L because you did it, but the punishment is not as severe because you're a part of who I am.
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: So that guess what?
- 29:42SPEAKER_02: That means I can't mess up.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: You can't turn on the TV and see Dr.
- 29:46SPEAKER_02: Vincent locked out for some crazy stuff.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry, defending my family, I'll go to jail for that.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: But some dumb stuff, I can't afford to do it.
- 29:56SPEAKER_04: You can't.
- 29:56SPEAKER_03: You got a lot of pressure going on.
- 29:58SPEAKER_03: But your guys, because we we talk, we talk a lot.
- 30:02SPEAKER_03: What made your guys, throughout your guys' relationship, when you first started talking, you got married and everything.
- 30:10SPEAKER_03: What was that thing that say that we could go in business together?
- 30:14SPEAKER_03: I trust him with whatever.
- 30:17SPEAKER_03: Trust is a big port.
- 30:19SPEAKER_03: Trust is a big port.
- 30:20SPEAKER_05: And then you can pick out my clothes, look, he shops for me.
- 30:23SPEAKER_05: Like all of that.
- 30:23SPEAKER_05: I trust him with whatever.
- 30:26SPEAKER_05: Again, he talks about the finances and sharing the accounts and things like that.
- 30:29SPEAKER_05: Like, I think before we even got married, we started the process of like having an account or we had access to like we had, we always had access to whatever each other had.
- 30:39SPEAKER_05: It just, I trust him with whatever.
- 30:42SPEAKER_05: So I'm cool.
- 30:44SPEAKER_05: I do still have a nine to five, right?
- 30:45SPEAKER_05: I still go to work.
- 30:46SPEAKER_05: I know that he's home building the business and working that thing out.
- 30:49SPEAKER_05: I trust that when I come home, we sit and whatever decision he felt like he needed to make in that moment.
- 30:54SPEAKER_05: Oh, I'm I'm cool.
- 30:55SPEAKER_05: You got it, babes.
- 30:57SPEAKER_05: Like I trust that, but I also know that he's gonna ask my opinion and how I feel about it.
- 31:01SPEAKER_05: He's not gonna make a final decision without saying, all right, what do you think?
- 31:05SPEAKER_05: Do we need to alter this?
- 31:06SPEAKER_05: Do we need to look at it this way?
- 31:07SPEAKER_05: Like, I trust him with whatever.
- 31:10SPEAKER_05: So that's why that works.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: That was easy.
- 31:12SPEAKER_02: I think it starts with the foundation.
- 31:14SPEAKER_02: We were friends first.
- 31:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: Before sex was involved, any of the like we literally, I think we made a conscious effort to learn each other.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: Learn each other.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: And it was just hours of conversation.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, hours and hours of conversation.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: And you're still evolving because 14 years later, uh, something that comes to mind, or a friend may pop up, or something happens.
- 31:37SPEAKER_02: Yo, I did this when I was in school.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: And so you're still learning different things.
- 31:41SPEAKER_02: Or she asked, you know, um as when you grew up, how is it in your family?
- 31:47SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 31:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: Different dynamics or whatever the case may be.
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: Um, one thing she's very conscious of is not um allowing our kids to have trauma in their youth.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: But that was my life.
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: Life is gonna happen.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: You can't protect them from everything, but she's very intentional.
- 32:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:04SPEAKER_02: We don't want to have the trauma, things of that nature.
- 32:07SPEAKER_02: So that's stuff that you can't avoid.
- 32:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you can't.
- 32:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: Lack of arguing and all those things, the pressure, even like I said, the financial pressure.
- 32:15SPEAKER_02: When you're building a business, your money's like this, right?
- 32:18SPEAKER_02: So even at your brokers, the kids never feel it.
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: Yes, they've never known struggle.
- 32:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 32:23SPEAKER_03: There is no struggle.
- 32:24SPEAKER_06: Oh, no struggle.
- 32:26SPEAKER_03: You know what's funny?
- 32:27SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna tell you guys because we we from a different country.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: So we we weren't born here.
- 32:31SPEAKER_03: So I would I'll tell my kids like they would never understand what we had to go through.
- 32:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like we had to go through.
- 32:36SPEAKER_03: And wasn't I keep telling them like the the story, like yeah.
- 32:39SPEAKER_03: I was like, Y'all guys have two bathrooms.
- 32:40SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: Yes, y'all gotta have uh a bedroom, you're gonna have a bedroom.
- 32:45SPEAKER_03: So I'm drilling it into them that they are blessed.
- 32:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they are blessed.
- 32:50SPEAKER_03: As a kid your age, I didn't have these things.
- 32:52SPEAKER_03: So if they they would tell you that my dad always tells us a story.
- 32:56SPEAKER_03: Everything like I gotta make sure you understand, understand that you are blessed for what you have.
- 33:01SPEAKER_03: It could be small, yes, it could be big, you are blessed.
- 33:04SPEAKER_03: People use people in America say, look, I live in the ghetto.
- 33:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: For us that live in that live in the ghetto.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: Living the ghetto is living good.
- 33:11SPEAKER_03: That's baby, that's that's uh you had to go outside.
- 33:15SPEAKER_03: It's a rich life that you live in compared to compared, because you have you have a fridge, you have electricity, you have you have all these things.
- 33:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, but when we look at it, that's that you're living good.
- 33:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, so I I gotta let my kids, uh we teach them that.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: You are blessed.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: You are blessed.
- 33:34SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 33:34SPEAKER_03: No, I don't care, like you say, they don't feel it.
- 33:36SPEAKER_03: They don't feel it.
- 33:37SPEAKER_03: They don't feel anything.
- 33:38SPEAKER_03: Like we could run out of money.
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: Which we go, bro.
- 33:44SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 33:45SPEAKER_03: It's part of bro.
- 33:47SPEAKER_04: We don't have money for a gas.
- 33:48SPEAKER_04: But we have to tell them, you know what, we're just gonna stay home today.
- 33:55SPEAKER_05: We've done it.
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: Count it quarters.
- 33:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, we've done it.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: We haven't done it.
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: Anytime you're in a long-term relationship, you feel oh, I know stuff.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: Whether you say it out loud or not, I know what you went through.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: I know what you go through in the midst of it because that's just part of it.
- 34:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:11SPEAKER_02: And your vows that says it, right?
- 34:13SPEAKER_02: And so the spiritual piece when you were talking about it, being blessed, is a big part of it.
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: Y'all see me online all the time, cracking jokes and doing the things, but one thing people really don't know about it.
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: I'm very, very spiritual.
- 34:24SPEAKER_02: As much time as I spend doing all those things, I'm in the Bible too.
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 34:29SPEAKER_02: Like she knows that.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: Like, I spend time learning.
- 34:33SPEAKER_02: For me, church, you know, I mean, the rituals and all that is one thing, that's cool.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: But I need to know how do I live this life spiritually so I can make it in.
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: Honestly, I want to know the nuances of everything.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: What does this mean?
- 34:47SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 34:47SPEAKER_02: And this is the thing.
- 34:48SPEAKER_02: You can read a scripture one time, next year you come back, you go to another thing, you live something, and so now I experienced it.
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: I get it.
- 34:55SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 34:55SPEAKER_02: So it means something different to me now.
- 34:57SPEAKER_02: You get what I'm saying?
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: That's why you gotta constantly be in the word.
- 34:59SPEAKER_02: So spirituality is a big thing into what we do.
- 35:03SPEAKER_02: Um, not big on church goes, but we're big on tithing.
- 35:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:07SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 35:08SPEAKER_02: We make sure we get to the kingdom of God and make sure, and that's just part of us being service, right?
- 35:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:12SPEAKER_02: Um, but you know what I mean?
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: It's not just a tithe, but expending our talents to make sure we help the community and make another person go.
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: I tell people all the time, my family's gonna be good.
- 35:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:22SPEAKER_02: We're gonna be good.
- 35:23SPEAKER_02: My concern is how's the next person doing?
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: Because I actually love people.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: When I hear people say I hate people, I stay away from them because that tells me you're selfish.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:33SPEAKER_02: You may not like their actions, you're and you're saying that you're perfect because you're a person too.
- 35:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: I try not to judge individuals.
- 35:40SPEAKER_02: We all judge, but in the same regard, I give grace in it because it's like, what are they going through?
- 35:44SPEAKER_02: You don't know?
- 35:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 35:45SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 35:46SPEAKER_02: At that moment, that person just snapped.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: What are they going through?
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: What is the pressure that they're dealing with at home?
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: Because as an adult, I know how it is.
- 35:52SPEAKER_02: I've been to a point where you know, you snap protecting your family, and I was like, where did that anger come from?
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: Because I was that angry where you did something to my wife, and it's like, now I have a problem with you.
- 36:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:06SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 36:07SPEAKER_02: Like, we know each other, but we got a problem.
- 36:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 36:10SPEAKER_02: And so you get that angry.
- 36:12SPEAKER_02: I see how people snap and they go to jail because something happens in a split second.
- 36:19SPEAKER_02: If you don't, if you're not conscious enough to think and have enough God in you, be like, yo, I gotta walk away.
- 36:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I'm about to do something that's gonna alter what God has for me.
- 36:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: And that's where you subject your ego and your pride.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: And I'm not really a big prideful guy, but sometimes that thing, I'm telling you, this is not too long ago, this just happened.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: And I was like, where did that anger come from?
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: Because I was that angry.
- 36:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I couldn't believe it.
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: I was like, man, that is scary.
- 36:47SPEAKER_02: So you that that's another thing.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: I give grace and did certain things.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm trying, I try to be quick to apologize if I offend you.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: Hey, man, if I offended you, I didn't mean that.
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: My intent, we were joking or whatever, but if it hit something, I didn't know that.
- 37:01SPEAKER_02: And I apologize.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: Yo, we gotta live here.
- 37:04SPEAKER_02: We live in this area.
- 37:06SPEAKER_02: It shouldn't be no beefs and bumps.
- 37:07SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, that's just my opinion.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: If you're just a person that, you know what I mean, I ain't gonna be able to get along with, that's cool.
- 37:13SPEAKER_02: It's not no beef, I just can't rock with you.
- 37:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but if like I love y'all.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:18SPEAKER_02: Honestly, I do.
- 37:19SPEAKER_02: When I see, like, I love y'all, I celebrate y'all.
- 37:22SPEAKER_02: I want you to do well, I want your kids to do well.
- 37:24SPEAKER_02: If I can help you in any way, that's really my heart's desire.
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: What you got, it's not gonna stop from what I got.
- 37:31SPEAKER_02: If God's got you, he's got me.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 37:33SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 37:33SPEAKER_02: So I'm not I'm not jealous of anything.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: How can I help you?
- 37:37SPEAKER_02: But in the same regard, that circle of trust, yeah.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: You mess with that, I'm a different person.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: And I learned that.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: I just learned it.
- 37:46SPEAKER_05: But we check it and we move on.
- 37:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we check it and we move it.
- 37:49SPEAKER_05: We tell it.
- 37:49SPEAKER_05: We move on, because it could, I mean, it could really, really impact you as a human being.
- 37:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 37:55SPEAKER_05: You gotta be able to just be like, all right.
- 37:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 37:57SPEAKER_05: Let's just walk away from certain situations.
- 38:00SPEAKER_04: And yeah.
- 38:01SPEAKER_04: Now let me ask you.
- 38:03SPEAKER_04: So, as a couple, right, with family and business and everything that you do, like, how do you guys decide?
- 38:09SPEAKER_04: Because I know Jeff mentioned it before, like, sometimes you had to step back, right?
- 38:13SPEAKER_04: How do you guys decide responsibilities or what systems have you guys used in your relationship to make this flow?
- 38:21SPEAKER_04: Let me know if I can write some news.
- 38:22SPEAKER_05: Like managing house and managing house or just the girl dynamics.
- 38:26SPEAKER_05: I think we tried everything.
- 38:27SPEAKER_05: I got chore charts that we don't follow because we got sports.
- 38:32SPEAKER_05: Like I tried crock pot meals, that don't work.
- 38:35SPEAKER_05: We're eating out.
- 38:37SPEAKER_05: Like we're undisciplined and surgery.
- 38:39SPEAKER_05: We are so undisciplined and certainly.
- 38:41SPEAKER_05: But that works though.
- 38:41SPEAKER_05: So like you try, and it's just like, you know, I just need y'all to make sure y'all got some rest, get up and just be good people.
- 38:48SPEAKER_05: Well, let me say this.
- 38:50SPEAKER_02: The house is hers.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: She runs the house.
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: I follow.
- 38:55SPEAKER_02: I mean, we said the temperature is followers, right?
- 38:57SPEAKER_02: Because she always says, you can say, I can say something.
- 38:59SPEAKER_02: As soon as you say it, they move.
- 39:02SPEAKER_05: I'm like, you know what?
- 39:03SPEAKER_05: One second.
- 39:04SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: I need to go handle the problem.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: I'm telling you.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: I'm like, yo, forget your kids until I have a problem.
- 39:12SPEAKER_02: So that dynamic is that, but the house is hers, right?
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: So when she's saying go get the bass, they know.
- 39:18SPEAKER_02: They already know the structure.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: She's ingrained it into them.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: It don't matter how late we're out or whatever, they know heat, shower, bed, or whatever the case may be, whatever the case, whatever that is.
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: When it comes to uh outside, she kind of we kind of float on that.
- 39:33SPEAKER_02: It's no written rule.
- 39:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:35SPEAKER_02: We just go with it.
- 39:36SPEAKER_02: What's your calendar?
- 39:38SPEAKER_02: What's my calendar?
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: I actually, what I've started doing is when I have appointments, I'll send them to her.
- 39:44SPEAKER_02: So she can have it, so she knows.
- 39:45SPEAKER_02: So now we are looking and we're not double booking and getting helpful things.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: Because when you have a schedule as busy as ours, add it with kids, right?
- 39:56SPEAKER_02: And I'm preaching to a choir, you have to have that flow.
- 39:59SPEAKER_02: And sometimes you'll look at it like God, I had all these memes, we did this.
- 40:03SPEAKER_02: How did we get through it?
- 40:04SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 40:07SPEAKER_05: We look forward to so now we can look forward to Saturdays a little bit because before Krishna, what for the last three, four months, we were up every Saturday.
- 40:16SPEAKER_02: No, it's longer than that.
- 40:17SPEAKER_02: Was it longer than that?
- 40:18SPEAKER_02: September all the way.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: Oh, to March.
- 40:20SPEAKER_05: To March.
- 40:21SPEAKER_05: Bowling.
- 40:21SPEAKER_05: Every Saturday.
- 40:22SPEAKER_05: Every Saturday morning.
- 40:23SPEAKER_05: So we're up at seven.
- 40:24SPEAKER_05: Every Saturday.
- 40:24SPEAKER_05: Mind you, we worked all week.
- 40:26SPEAKER_05: So we're up at seven on Saturdays to go bowling, and we're out there for three or four hours and then we're home.
- 40:32SPEAKER_05: We now have these Saturdays, like we look forward to the Saturdays where we can just lay there and do absolutely nothing.
- 40:36SPEAKER_05: Like, I'm like, Jay, do we got anything this weekend?
- 40:39SPEAKER_05: No.
- 40:39SPEAKER_05: Oh great.
- 40:40SPEAKER_05: What do you want to do for Mother's Day?
- 40:42SPEAKER_05: Feed me, I'm good.
- 40:43SPEAKER_05: I don't need to do anything.
- 40:46SPEAKER_02: And right?
- 40:48SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna be honest.
- 40:49SPEAKER_02: It was an honest question because look, my dad told me this a long time ago.
- 40:56SPEAKER_02: He really did.
- 40:56SPEAKER_02: He told me this a long time ago.
- 40:58SPEAKER_02: He said, son, you gotta be careful in uh the gifts that you give, because you know I mean there's there's different holidays and monumental moments that you do.
- 41:07SPEAKER_02: I buy my house all the time.
- 41:10SPEAKER_02: She'll walk in.
- 41:11SPEAKER_02: Look at the shoes she got.
- 41:13SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 41:14SPEAKER_02: Most of her closet, shoes-wise, I bought that.
- 41:18SPEAKER_02: Purses, my kids.
- 41:21SPEAKER_02: So they come home with a box of shoes on the bed.
- 41:24SPEAKER_02: So I buy all the time.
- 41:26SPEAKER_02: So it it sometimes eliminates the gift unless it's something really, really special that they asked or they've been wanting.
- 41:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:34SPEAKER_02: But that's why I had to ask, what is it that you want?
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: Because you get jewelry all the time.
- 41:38SPEAKER_02: You get these things.
- 41:39SPEAKER_02: It's just because that's what I want to do.
- 41:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:42SPEAKER_02: I want to show my appreciation for you, not.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry, I'm hitting the mic.
- 41:46SPEAKER_02: I want to show my appreciation for you every day, not just on a holiday.
- 41:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:52SPEAKER_02: You get what I'm saying?
- 41:53SPEAKER_02: So when Valentine's come, I usually I you know sometimes I'll do the flowers, but I usually do the flowers pre Valentine's day.
- 42:01SPEAKER_02: I may do an edible arrangement, something that's different than what everybody else is doing.
- 42:06SPEAKER_02: You get what I'm saying?
- 42:07SPEAKER_02: I still try to make the day special, but I always like to be creative in that.
- 42:12SPEAKER_02: This year kind of it crept up on me.
- 42:14SPEAKER_02: We had a lot of things going on, and then I got sick.
- 42:16SPEAKER_02: When I got sick, like my body's just now getting back to normal.
- 42:20SPEAKER_02: And like it didn't have me worried, but it's like, yo, something's wrong.
- 42:24SPEAKER_02: I mean worried.
- 42:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:25SPEAKER_02: Something's wrong.
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: I'm not recovering.
- 42:27SPEAKER_02: And I was sick for a while.
- 42:28SPEAKER_02: You get what I'm saying?
- 42:29SPEAKER_02: And so the uh the Mother's Day holiday crept up on me, and it's like I didn't have the gifts that I usually have.
- 42:36SPEAKER_02: What is it that you want?
- 42:37SPEAKER_02: Because I want to make sure that I do exactly what it is that you asked me for.
- 42:40SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 42:41SPEAKER_02: So, but even with the resting.
- 42:44SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, we talked about bowling, but we didn't talk about basketball.
- 42:47SPEAKER_02: Like, we got flag football, basketball, and bowling going on right now.
- 42:51SPEAKER_02: You get what I'm saying?
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: Some kids.
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: It's the kids.
- 42:54SPEAKER_02: So, like our days are crazy.
- 42:58SPEAKER_02: So, you know, when we were talking about before the campaign, different things that would take away from you know what I mean?
- 43:04SPEAKER_02: They need my support right now.
- 43:06SPEAKER_02: She needs my support.
- 43:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:07SPEAKER_02: She's finishing something that is life-changing.
- 43:10SPEAKER_02: And so you gotta have the time to do that.
- 43:13SPEAKER_02: If I go and say I'm gonna go campaign for whatever office or whatever, now she's gotta figure out this, this, and this.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I gotta focus on that.
- 43:21SPEAKER_02: That's not fair.
- 43:22SPEAKER_02: They've dedicated so much time, it's my turn to rededicate that time until everything's complete.
- 43:28SPEAKER_05: But you know what's crazy is I would happily do it.
- 43:30SPEAKER_05: I would just sit there and figure it out.
- 43:31SPEAKER_05: I'd if he had an interview or whatever, and I had to submit it, I'm sitting in the back.
- 43:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 43:37SPEAKER_05: Or we'll get home late and I'll I'll stay up and finish.
- 43:39SPEAKER_05: Like the professors during a doctorate program are very they're a little bit more lax than a master's program, but like I would figure it out.
- 43:46SPEAKER_05: He knows that.
- 43:47SPEAKER_05: But like, I'm glad that he made the choice, like he didn't make me make that decision.
- 43:52SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 43:53SPEAKER_05: That trust thing.
- 43:54SPEAKER_05: See what?
- 43:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 43:56SPEAKER_03: What's your guys' greatest investment?
- 43:58SPEAKER_03: Each other.
- 43:59SPEAKER_03: Each other.
- 44:02SPEAKER_02: Everything else blossoms from it.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:05SPEAKER_02: My greatest investment is pouring into her and um making sure she becomes the best her.
- 44:11SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 44:12SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 44:13SPEAKER_02: She definitely does it for me.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: But like I told you, like I enjoy it.
- 44:16SPEAKER_02: I love when people say that's precious or you know, whatever.
- 44:20SPEAKER_02: She's being highlighted for something, she's getting a promotion.
- 44:23SPEAKER_02: Um, you get a call, the governor wants her to serve on a committee or you know, commission.
- 44:29SPEAKER_02: That stuff, those are the things that you build.
- 44:32SPEAKER_02: When you're building the business, you're running around.
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: I know when I started, I'm sure it was the same for you guys.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: I'm in before COVID, man, I'll be in all three counties three or four times out the week, driving back and forth, building a name.
- 44:46SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 44:46SPEAKER_02: Broke.
- 44:47SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 44:48SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 44:48SPEAKER_02: You're trying to build a name so people know who you are.
- 44:51SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 44:52SPEAKER_02: So when a COVID happens, they know who Jeff Benson is and they writing checks for you to go do things that you was already doing.
- 45:00SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: And so that was a blessing to uncover for us uh because I did all the work.
- 45:06SPEAKER_02: Now it's, you know, people up in Wilmington, you know they don't want to come down.
- 45:10SPEAKER_02: They don't want to come nowhere.
- 45:11SPEAKER_02: Nowhere.
- 45:12SPEAKER_02: Hey, can you guys come?
- 45:13SPEAKER_02: How about this?
- 45:14SPEAKER_02: Won't you come to Seaford?
- 45:15SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 45:16SPEAKER_02: Man, Seaford's far, I know.
- 45:17SPEAKER_02: You wanna do Zoom?
- 45:19SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 45:20SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 45:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, listen.
- 45:22SPEAKER_02: We see each other, we we still handle business, but guess what?
- 45:25SPEAKER_02: Maybe it's a little ego.
- 45:27SPEAKER_02: I don't the price just went up.
- 45:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you literally'm not running around for y'all no more.
- 45:34SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 45:35SPEAKER_02: Y'all can come to me.
- 45:36SPEAKER_02: In fact, when you come down, I'm gonna roll out the red car because I want you to see some things that's going on here so you can better understand why I'm so Seaford-centric.
- 45:44SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm I'm born and raised here.
- 45:47SPEAKER_02: So, like they know when I come up, yo, that that he's from Seaford.
- 45:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 45:51SPEAKER_02: Oh, we got Susan's County Royalty here, whatever the case, they'll say some things like that, because I ride or die for us.
- 45:58SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 45:58SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 45:58SPEAKER_02: You ain't gonna crap on my city, you're not gonna talk noise about our school.
- 46:02SPEAKER_02: Yo, he does.
- 46:04SPEAKER_02: I don't play about that.
- 46:05SPEAKER_02: He does.
- 46:05SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 46:06SPEAKER_02: And here's the thing because I do the work, if I'm not doing the work, I I can't say anything, but I do the work to make our city better.
- 46:13SPEAKER_02: You guys do the work to make our city better in whatever little capacity or influence we have.
- 46:18SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 46:19SPEAKER_02: I'm not the kingpin here, but what I'm saying is you have influence.
- 46:24SPEAKER_02: I use whatever influence I have to make impact from kids' lives to adults' lives.
- 46:30SPEAKER_02: That's the truth.
- 46:30SPEAKER_02: Y'all talking about pillow talk?
- 46:32SPEAKER_02: We don't really do pillow talking, but we do those are the things that we talk about.
- 46:36SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 46:37SPEAKER_02: To just to think.
- 46:38SPEAKER_02: Being, I'm gonna tell you what a true friend is, if I if I can pivot for a second.
- 46:43SPEAKER_02: We were talking about being broke.
- 46:45SPEAKER_02: Man, we was having one of those hard times.
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: Like, money wasn't coming in, commissions weren't coming in the way I needed, like, we was broke, man, honestly.
- 46:53SPEAKER_02: And so one of our good friends, I was just having a vent session, telling her what was going on, right?
- 47:01SPEAKER_02: Do you not know this chick?
- 47:03SPEAKER_02: She just walking around, she's listening, got a bag, just go through a freezer, start putting food in the bag or whatever.
- 47:12SPEAKER_02: Gave me the bag.
- 47:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, I broke down, I was like, broke down crying.
- 47:16SPEAKER_02: She showed me what a true friend was.
- 47:19SPEAKER_02: Six months later, we find out somebody was going through, guess what we do?
- 47:22SPEAKER_02: The same thing, same thing.
- 47:23SPEAKER_02: No, we go through the excited.
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: Excited.
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:27SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 47:27SPEAKER_02: You think they want some steak?
- 47:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're gonna want some steak or whatever.
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: Because you're you know what I mean, your life can change.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: I mean, we we was good.
- 47:33SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 47:34SPEAKER_02: When people like commit suicide, I always say to them, oh my god, I wish they just had enough strength to hold on.
- 47:40SPEAKER_02: Because it turns around.
- 47:41SPEAKER_02: It does, yeah.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: It turns around and it'll turn around for you.
- 47:44SPEAKER_02: And so, not even six months later, we're doing the same thing, but we were excited to do it.
- 47:49SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 47:50SPEAKER_02: It's many a times where I clean out my closet, I always go to the kids first before I do adults.
- 47:56SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 47:56SPEAKER_02: But when I hear kids need stuff or whatever, we have families now, right now, full families, that we adopt.
- 48:04SPEAKER_02: That they get our stuff, our kids' stuff, because we have good stuff or whatever.
- 48:08SPEAKER_02: They have kids, they can't afford a whole bunch of stuff.
- 48:11SPEAKER_02: But our our our used, our gently used things, our kids have, their kids have.
- 48:16SPEAKER_02: Or whatever.
- 48:17SPEAKER_02: We don't talk about it, we don't brag, you know what I mean?
- 48:19SPEAKER_02: No.
- 48:20SPEAKER_02: But what I'm saying is it's so much that we do that people don't know.
- 48:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 48:26SPEAKER_02: Where someone wrote a check for us, well, we needed electricity paid.
- 48:30SPEAKER_02: We didn't stroke checks for people.
- 48:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:33SPEAKER_02: You get what I'm saying?
- 48:34SPEAKER_02: And so it's like the one hand and watch the other.
- 48:36SPEAKER_02: I enjoy doing that.
- 48:38SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 48:38SPEAKER_02: It's not about the bragging.
- 48:39SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: I want to make more money so I can do more of it.
- 48:43SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: So I'm in business so I can do more of it.
- 48:47SPEAKER_02: I want to build my family's legacy.
- 48:49SPEAKER_02: That's very important.
- 48:50SPEAKER_02: They're gonna be fine.
- 48:51SPEAKER_02: But I love being able to bless other people because I know what it's like when you can't turn to nobody when you stuck.
- 48:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 49:00SPEAKER_05: So outside of him dropping everything when my brother died, that's when I fell in love with him when I when he did that, right?
- 49:07SPEAKER_05: You hear this passion?
- 49:08SPEAKER_05: Y'all heard it.
- 49:09SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, you know.
- 49:11SPEAKER_05: But y'all hear this passion.
- 49:12SPEAKER_05: The passion and the dreamer in him, mmm, bruh, it took me out.
- 49:17SPEAKER_05: Like, we would ride around housing developments together late and night, and I was just like, this man has a vision and a dream, and I adore every single thing about it.
- 49:25SPEAKER_05: It didn't scare me.
- 49:26SPEAKER_05: Where it could scare some people away because it could be so unsteady, right?
- 49:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 49:31SPEAKER_05: But man, like the passion that this guy has the passion.
- 49:35SPEAKER_04: Every time he speaks, I'm just like, so in every relationship, that's always like the risk taker.
- 49:42SPEAKER_04: And there's like the implementer, right?
- 49:44SPEAKER_04: So I'm just gonna take a while.
- 49:45SPEAKER_04: So who's the risk taker?
- 49:48SPEAKER_02: It's not just me, but I would say you I'm there.
- 49:52SPEAKER_05: I like I like the plan.
- 49:54SPEAKER_05: Yes, yes.
- 49:55SPEAKER_05: I'll I'll I'll veer off sometimes, but I like to have a plan.
- 50:00SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 50:00SPEAKER_02: I like the plan.
- 50:01SPEAKER_02: I need to know.
- 50:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 50:03SPEAKER_02: From a little boy, this is guys honest truth.
- 50:05SPEAKER_02: From a little boy, man, I always wanted to be a business person.
- 50:09SPEAKER_02: You can ask my parents.
- 50:10SPEAKER_02: Well, everybody else is doing it.
- 50:12SPEAKER_02: I love to dress up.
- 50:13SPEAKER_02: From a little boy, I used to like to get in a suit and tie or whatever.
- 50:16SPEAKER_02: It just made me feel good.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: I was telling Precious.
- 50:20SPEAKER_02: Um uh back then they had uh toner.
- 50:25SPEAKER_02: Well, I guess it's still toner, but it's definitely different than now.
- 50:28SPEAKER_02: Um, and before we had a computer, we had a uh typewriter, so it would be ribbon.
- 50:32SPEAKER_02: So my mom would say, uh, when I would print stuff, don't be using all my ribbon, but it's the toner, right?
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: So I used to print out my name.
- 50:41SPEAKER_02: I had business cards.
- 50:42SPEAKER_02: It wasn't card stock, but it was just out and I give it to the girls.
- 50:46SPEAKER_02: But it's on my phone though.
- 50:48SPEAKER_04: That's how you did with her though.
- 50:49SPEAKER_04: You remember you give me your mix.
- 50:54SPEAKER_05: I told you it was in mixed.
- 50:56SPEAKER_05: I've been saying this for years.
- 51:00SPEAKER_02: But yo, I promise you, I've been doing this for a while.
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: I was like, bruh.
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: Then I see other dudes doing this, they're like, now you want to do it.
- 51:08SPEAKER_02: Man, that's my swag.
- 51:10SPEAKER_02: You know, you know, I mean, I got my biggest.
- 51:13SPEAKER_02: Somebody got caught.
- 51:15SPEAKER_02: So I got a call.
- 51:19SPEAKER_02: Somebody got caught.
- 51:22SPEAKER_02: Oh, she's bad.
- 51:24SPEAKER_02: She said, why am I gonna call by this little girl's mom talking about she got your MacDaddy card?
- 51:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:38SPEAKER_02: Oh man, that's some funny stuff.
- 51:41SPEAKER_02: So fast forward.
- 51:47SPEAKER_02: You fast forward, right?
- 51:48SPEAKER_02: So we're at True Blue.
- 51:49SPEAKER_02: Well, it was called True Blue, up here.
- 51:51SPEAKER_02: Up here, yeah.
- 51:52SPEAKER_02: Do you remember True Blue?
- 51:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 51:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I used to live.
- 51:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I live in Twitter.
- 51:56SPEAKER_02: I'm just making sure some years, yeah.
- 51:57SPEAKER_02: So it's not true blue anymore, but at True Blue, my mom had me get out to pump gas.
- 52:02SPEAKER_02: I'm like 12 or 13 at the time.
- 52:04SPEAKER_02: And it was this guy, black guy, shirt and tie, black bins, right?
- 52:10SPEAKER_02: And I'm thinking to myself, he's dressed up.
- 52:12SPEAKER_02: This is Tuesday.
- 52:14SPEAKER_02: Um, what does he do?
- 52:15SPEAKER_02: Because you know, we get dressed up on Saturday.
- 52:18SPEAKER_02: My dad, he's blue-collar, uh, drove truck for over 25 years, over two million miles over the road or whatever, made good money, but that's not how he dressed, right?
- 52:28SPEAKER_02: He's blue-collar.
- 52:29SPEAKER_02: That's how I want to dress.
- 52:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 52:31SPEAKER_02: So I'm thinking to myself, what does he do?
- 52:33SPEAKER_02: I didn't have the guts to go up and ask him.
- 52:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, hey, what do you do?
- 52:37SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 52:38SPEAKER_02: But it stayed in my mind.
- 52:40SPEAKER_02: When I get older, that's how I'm gonna dress every day when I go to work.
- 52:44SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 52:45SPEAKER_02: Because it was just, it was just something that stuck in me.
- 52:48SPEAKER_02: I didn't care for school much, but when it came to business classes or whatever, I'm motivated to do that.
- 52:54SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 52:55SPEAKER_02: That's why I joined the military because I didn't have the best study habits.
- 53:00SPEAKER_02: I didn't want to be a bum.
- 53:01SPEAKER_02: So I had options.
- 53:02SPEAKER_02: I was in RTC, so I knew doing three years of ROTC, I already was going in as an E3.
- 53:07SPEAKER_02: So I said, all right, I'll at least do four years.
- 53:10SPEAKER_02: And guys on the truth, the very first night of basic training, which is usually the scariest night for most people, I slept the peacefulest.
- 53:19SPEAKER_02: Like, I mean, it was the best sleep and all that chaos because I knew exactly what I wanted to do.
- 53:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:26SPEAKER_02: I want to be a business guy.
- 53:28SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna use the military to get there.
- 53:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and from that day forward, I did.
- 53:33SPEAKER_02: She can attest.
- 53:35SPEAKER_02: We were just in San Antonio with one of my mentors that was uh over in Germany.
- 53:40SPEAKER_02: And what did he say?
- 53:42SPEAKER_02: You're always business minded.
- 53:43SPEAKER_02: He was always this way.
- 53:45SPEAKER_02: From the time like an old young man.
- 53:48SPEAKER_02: He was all what everybody else was doing.
- 53:50SPEAKER_02: He was always talking about how to get some additional money, how to invest.
- 53:53SPEAKER_02: I've always been on that track.
- 53:55SPEAKER_02: So when you're talking about the risk taker, I always foresee us being able to be in business in some form or fashion.
- 54:03SPEAKER_02: But now I'm tired of small business.
- 54:05SPEAKER_02: I want to be a major player.
- 54:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:07SPEAKER_02: You get it?
- 54:07SPEAKER_02: It takes just as much time.
- 54:10SPEAKER_02: Just as much time.
- 54:10SPEAKER_02: I just need more resources.
- 54:12SPEAKER_02: So I'm shooting for the major platform.
- 54:15SPEAKER_02: The other thing is, it's hard to go from, even if you're not a business owner, if you're like an insurance agent, real estate agent where you're independent, to go back into a structured sector where someone's telling you and dictating your time.
- 54:28SPEAKER_02: It's hard to do that.
- 54:29SPEAKER_02: I don't want nobody to dictate my time.
- 54:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I want to be able to get to the point I can retire my wife, she's just gonna be working with me, but you know, retire her, my family, different things of that nature.
- 54:41SPEAKER_02: And our work is our travel.
- 54:43SPEAKER_02: Like we're traveling the world, we're speaking at events, yeah, they're paying for it.
- 54:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you get what I'm saying?
- 54:50SPEAKER_02: But we're also vacationing on that time.
- 54:52SPEAKER_02: That's how the rich and famous do it.
- 54:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you get what I'm saying?
- 54:55SPEAKER_02: So I'm tired of small business.
- 54:57SPEAKER_02: How do I get to the next level?
- 54:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 55:00SPEAKER_02: And so, as the risk taker, I have a great support system.
- 55:04SPEAKER_02: The thing is, I'll tell her this and then she'll put together the plan.
- 55:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're gonna do this, this, this, this, and this.
- 55:09SPEAKER_02: Where are we at on this?
- 55:11SPEAKER_02: All right, we haven't checked that off.
- 55:13SPEAKER_02: We gotta continue to keep hitting that.
- 55:14SPEAKER_02: And you're gonna keep doing that because it's really the lack of resource.
- 55:18SPEAKER_02: Yep, it is.
- 55:18SPEAKER_02: It really is.
- 55:19SPEAKER_02: It is it's not the lack of knowledge resources, the lack of financial resources.
- 55:24SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 55:24SPEAKER_02: Until you get over that threshold where money's making money on top of money and you flowing, you keep hitting this wall.
- 55:31SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 55:31SPEAKER_02: And I'm tired of hitting that wall.
- 55:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 55:33SPEAKER_02: You get what I'm saying?
- 55:34SPEAKER_02: And so, over you were talking about keeping your head down, my head is down right now.
- 55:38SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 55:38SPEAKER_02: And we're going, you know, within this next year, somehow we're gonna overcome that.
- 55:41SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 55:42SPEAKER_02: You get what I'm saying?
- 55:43SPEAKER_03: Well, you're with your guys' dynamic, uh, your your will, man.
- 55:46SPEAKER_03: Like, I was reading something this morning.
- 55:48SPEAKER_03: Um uh, we all reading uh, each of us reading a book by Dr.
- 55:52SPEAKER_03: Miles Punell.
- 55:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 55:54SPEAKER_03: So on the on the page that I was reading, he was saying that God gave us men the vision.
- 56:04SPEAKER_03: He created a helper for us to elevate the vision.
- 56:09SPEAKER_03: So you and your wife, yeah, you have the vision.
- 56:12SPEAKER_03: Without her, you can't you can't you can't accomplish it.
- 56:14SPEAKER_03: I might have the vision.
- 56:15SPEAKER_03: Without her, I can't accomplish accomplish the vision.
- 56:18SPEAKER_03: So she's your helper.
- 56:19SPEAKER_03: You are team, your teammate.
- 56:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, even though she's working nine or five, yeah, your guys still build together.
- 56:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you all trust each other.
- 56:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 56:29SPEAKER_03: You say something like I say too, like, what you have your family when you come to your family, when you come to your circle, you don't let nobody in.
- 56:37SPEAKER_03: Nobody in in that relationship.
- 56:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 56:39SPEAKER_03: And y'all guys are doing that.
- 56:42SPEAKER_03: For people who don't know you guys, like who doesn't see your guys, right?
- 56:46SPEAKER_03: What advice would you give to couples that's either both sides, yeah, that's working, right?
- 56:53SPEAKER_03: That's wanna get their doctor degree, that's doing an amazing thing, and the other one is building a business for couples like your guys, like what advice, what tip would your guys give to them?
- 57:07SPEAKER_05: Um, I think patience.
- 57:08SPEAKER_05: You gotta be patient with yourself and with your partner.
- 57:12SPEAKER_05: Just be patient with the process because it's not gonna happen overnight.
- 57:15SPEAKER_05: You gotta understand that it's gonna take time, you're gonna have these issues where things are just not gonna work out the way that you thought I I write the plan, plan doesn't always do what I think it's supposed to do.
- 57:25SPEAKER_05: But I think you have to be patient with each other and one another and just be patient with that process.
- 57:30SPEAKER_05: Um, I hate giving couples advice.
- 57:32SPEAKER_05: I think we feel the same way, like, because we're not perfect, like we have our stuff, right?
- 57:36SPEAKER_05: We've dealt with our own stuff, and we like we take it a day at a time.
- 57:40SPEAKER_05: So, whatever that situation is, whatever if you are building a business, take that one day at a time.
- 57:45SPEAKER_05: Don't put so much pressure on yourself.
- 57:47SPEAKER_05: And I think I just said that to him this morning.
- 57:49SPEAKER_05: Like, don't put so much pressure on yourself.
- 57:51SPEAKER_05: We good, like we're we're gonna be okay.
- 57:53SPEAKER_05: You gotta be patient with the process and be patient with yourself.
- 57:56SPEAKER_05: So that's what I would say.
- 57:58SPEAKER_02: I would say, um, you know, everybody likes to say uh put God first.
- 58:02SPEAKER_02: What does that really mean?
- 58:05SPEAKER_02: Spirituality is the forefront of what we do, right?
- 58:09SPEAKER_02: But it's the applied principles, treating people right, which is number one, right?
- 58:14SPEAKER_02: Uh love is the biggest thing, loving on people, or whatever.
- 58:18SPEAKER_02: Um, but more importantly, having a family structure she was talking about, it's really it starts with us, right?
- 58:26SPEAKER_02: Knowing your partner, it's not hard, it's not easy picking the right partner.
- 58:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 58:31SPEAKER_02: I told you, you know what I mean?
- 58:33SPEAKER_02: God said yes.
- 58:34SPEAKER_02: I needed him to tell me that.
- 58:36SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 58:36SPEAKER_02: Because sometimes you'll mess up, you know what I mean?
- 58:38SPEAKER_02: You're chasing the wrong things.
- 58:40SPEAKER_02: Um, so you're when you're blessed to have a good partner, nurture that that partnership, right?
- 58:46SPEAKER_02: Um and then to me, everything else really just flows.
- 58:50SPEAKER_02: If we're not battling, imagine you gotta battle the world and you gotta come home and you gotta battle.
- 58:56SPEAKER_02: All that chaos, because it's already everything's already chaotic, all that chaos in your mind, how are you really nurturing it and focusing?
- 59:04SPEAKER_02: When I come home and I got peace, then the ideas flow.
- 59:08SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 59:09SPEAKER_02: The ideas flow.
- 59:10SPEAKER_02: They can be really, really wild.
- 59:12SPEAKER_02: You write it down, some of it is minute, and where you can accomplish it really quickly.
- 59:16SPEAKER_02: But I'm to the point now where I'm really stretching myself.
- 59:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 59:20SPEAKER_02: Where it's like painful.
- 59:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you're stretching yourself because like you gotta go out and go do it.
- 59:26SPEAKER_02: Because if it's not, if it's an easy task, I do that anyway.
- 59:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, and for me, I'm lazy by nature when it comes to certain things.
- 59:34SPEAKER_02: So if I can just continue to do that, I'm gonna be honest.
- 59:37SPEAKER_02: We could do what we're doing right now and be fine.
- 59:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 59:41SPEAKER_02: You know, honestly, we don't need anything else.
- 59:44SPEAKER_02: But the impact of what I want to do, not just for myself and legacy, but for the world.
- 59:51SPEAKER_02: And when I see other people doing different things, like, yo, I want to do that.
- 59:54SPEAKER_02: And I haven't been able to accomplish that.
- 59:56SPEAKER_02: That's what's driving me.
- 59:58SPEAKER_02: My we are good right now, but I want to go beyond that.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_02: I'm 42 years old.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_02: If God blesses me with 40 more years, 40 more years, starting at zero right now, what more can I accomplish?
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_02: How can I uh bless uh Ebans and Gigi with what they got going on?
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_02: Maybe we do something together.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_02: Whether it's uh full-time or temporary or whatever.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_02: I mean, we've already done things together.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_02: Let me let me digress.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_02: I I messed that up.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_02: We've done things together.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_02: But like maybe we are, yeah, we do some great things together, whether it's in business or philanthropy, however, we that looks, um, because like I adore you guys.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_02: And so my whole thing is how can I impact what my son's legacy look like, right?
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_02: How do I make him a better?
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_02: He's already a better man than me that I believe already at his age at 11.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_02: How do I make him a good man and his kids that he's gonna have, you know, grandkids or whatever?
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_02: So when it's time for me to two-step with Jesus, I can be like, yo, I had a good life.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_02: I know people are gonna be sad or whatever, but the reality is I actually had a good life.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_02: I didn't my life wasn't snatched from me prematurely at a young age.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: I'm laying there and the angels getting ready to come.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_02: I can smile to heaven, be like, you know what I mean?
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_02: Thank you, God, for this opportunity to serve you and to provide impact on the earth.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_02: This little bit of time that you gave us in the big scheme of things.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_02: Um, kiss my wife and go on to the angels.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_02: I will be fine with that.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_02: But right now, I ain't there yet.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_02: So we gotta keep grinding.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_02: We gotta keep grinding.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_02: Impact, impact, impact.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_02: Not just for me.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_02: How do we change the face in the landscape of our community?
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_02: Not just Seaford Delaware, Delaware, and the United States, and globally.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_02: Globally.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_02: You get what I'm saying?
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_02: But I I I'm here, so I gotta start here.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_02: And my focus is here.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_02: I love this area.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_02: I really do.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_02: I love this area with all my heart.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_02: If I die today, you know one thing.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_02: He was a Cher knight.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_02: For real.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_02: I love this area.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_02: The people's doing great things, the mayor's doing great things, our ministerial staff, they're praying over the city every week in different areas.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_02: Seaford's doing some great things.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_02: Got entrepreneurs like yourself building a business and creating opportunities.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_02: What you guys are doing down in uh UMS, yeah.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh, look at that.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_02: What you guys are doing down there.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_02: I'm so excited.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_02: I can't wait.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_02: I wish I could participate.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_02: But um, man, keep doing what you guys are doing, and I hope I answered your question.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you did um in in the midst of it.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_02: But that's really what my heart's desire is.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_02: How do we impact the most people while we're here?
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_02: Unselfishly.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_02: Trust me, that's what my thoughts are.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_02: I'm good.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_02: What is the next person?
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_02: Are they okay?
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_02: Because that's what I really care about.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_02: I want to make sure everybody's okay.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_02: And but I gotta be fine first.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_02: I need to be that project writer.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_04: So, final question: how do you guys celebrate wins?
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_02: I don't think it was really the first time I ever really celebrated a win was when I got my document.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_02: And I was right there with him.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_02: Because it was so important to me, because I struggle with education.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_02: Um, not that I'm uh illiterate or any of those things, just lazy.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_02: I'm dealing with the same thing in my house with my nephew right now.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_02: And so I tell him, I'm like, yo, I'm I'm telling you, one day you're gonna mature and you're gonna know what it is that you want to do.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_02: I said, every shortcut that you have taken is gonna smack you in your face.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_02: I said, I promise you.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_02: And I said, I don't know what it's gonna be.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_02: I said, for me, it was the dissertation.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_02: Cutting corners, cheating here, not learning how to properly type.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_02: Like, yo, I had 67 revisions on my dissertation.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_02: Could it have been less?
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_02: It's possible you could, but the thing is, you just don't know.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_02: That's a different type of writing, it really is.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_02: But I struggled.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_02: Everything that I cheated myself in from elementary school all the way up came back because it has it's a perfect recipe.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_02: What I was writing, nobody really had did.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_02: What she's doing, nobody's done.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_02: It has to be perfect.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, not semi, it has to be perfect.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_02: Somebody's gotta follow this.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_02: And they would not let me, they wouldn't let off of me.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_02: It's not perfect, Jeff.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_02: And I'm upset.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_02: I'm mad, you know what I mean?
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_02: I gotta miss stuff because my kids got different things, or I go and then I gotta be up all night.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_02: And I love to sleep.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know, when I tell you, it's my fair pastor.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_02: That was the the first time that I really celebrated the win because it meant so much for me.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_02: It wasn't about nothing else but overcoming a fear of mine to prove to myself that you are good enough.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_02: I promise you, when I was sitting at my uh graduation from my master's degree, happy, excited, like yo, what I remember that conversation.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_02: Then I knocked that joint out like a year, like I kicked butt.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_02: Did really, really well.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_02: And the they called the doctoral students up, and it was something about when they walked up in the robe and the velvet gap, I didn't even feel accomplished.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_02: I promise you, I did not feel accomplished.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_02: They had the conversation with me.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_02: And I was like, there's another level.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_02: And I was I was pissed off.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_02: I was like, I gotta go back to school.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_02: I don't want to, but I gotta get data.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_02: It was for me.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_02: It wasn't for no uh elevation on job.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_02: That was for me.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and so when I'm um I got to my final slide of my dissertation and my presentation, it hit me.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_02: I broke down crying.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_02: I had everybody.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_02: On there crying.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_05: I was in a room with him, I'm snotting.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_02: I had everybody on the camera crying because it was like over.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_02: Well, I was like, oh my god I can't believe I did this.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_02: I just did this.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_02: I completed it.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_02: It's done.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_02: And man, I felt so light, but I was so excited.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_02: And I let me tell you, just ego-wise, if I if I can say for my ego, when I see Dr.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_02: Jeffrey Benson on when I come into places, though it does something to me.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_02: It's like, oh, it's incredible.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_02: This little kid did that.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_02: That little boy that was naive and immature and trying to find this way made a name for itself.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_02: My parents can be proud.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_02: I got my dad's namesake.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_02: He'd be like, yo, that's my son.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_02: You get what I'm saying?
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_02: And so that's what I want for my kids when they see their name.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_02: When my son walks in in different places, oh, you the bowler.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_02: He loves that.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_02: I love it for him.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_03: I love it for.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, you the bowler.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_03: It's something, it's something different.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_03: Something that's not like you a football player.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_03: It's something different.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but it's for him.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_02: Because look, he has pressure.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_02: Your kids got pressure.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_02: Y'all somebody.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_02: Oh, you Eben's kids, you G's kids.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_02: They so y'all somebody.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_02: So they already got pressure.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_02: He got pressure because of who his parents are.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_02: But he's making a name for himself.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_02: That's the win.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_02: That's the win for me.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_02: But for my own ego, when I walk in and I see Dr.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_02: Jeffrey Benson, especially if I got to speak or whatever.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_02: For me, I just look at like, yo, and I can't wait for her to get in.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_02: But think about this.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_02: I know it's the same way for y'all.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_02: When y'all drive by and you see your face on your on your um on your truck.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we did that.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_02: Every time I sit, I'm like, look at that.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_05: Every single day.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_05: If I ride Pastor, because I we ride pasture all the time, yeah.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_05: I was like, look at that.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_02: Yo, it's dope.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_02: It's something that you was able to accomplish that nobody's done.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_02: It was very innovative.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_02: But then you did it like Trump.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_02: You branded it, or you put your cell phone and your face on it.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_02: I loved it.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_02: I'm not comparing you, but he's good at branding.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_02: You get what I'm saying?
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_02: I don't care if I'm as a person, but he's good at branding.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_02: And so to have your face on it, like that's how I feel.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_02: Every time I see it, it's like, man, that is freaking incredible.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_02: You did that.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_02: I appreciate that.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_02: So that's what I celebrate.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_02: We don't celebrate much thing.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_02: It's so many times, and we got tons of plaques that's not even out.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_02: Like I got so many awards.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_02: We go eat.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_02: We had awards all the time, and it's not something that I take for granted because at any given time it can be cut off.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_02: And I'm grateful for it.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_02: Um, but you know what I mean?
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_02: It's like, yo, what's next?
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_02: I appreciate it.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_02: I actually, the announcement of the award is more rewarding for me than actually the ceremony.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_02: Because, yo, we got it.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_04: And it's an inspiration, too.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_04: It's such an inspiration because when I see you gay, I'm like, yo, he did.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_04: I can do it too.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_04: You know, and then you're a type of person too, where like one thing that I love about you guys is that you don't keep it to yourself.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_04: No.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_04: So many awards that we've won.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_05: That's because of Jeff.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_05: I want my people.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_05: You know, like, yo, you should stop because you need to get in those rooms too.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I need you to be celebrated and I need them to know who you are.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_02: Because I already know once you get there, the way y'all, y'all dynamic, oh, y'all gonna work that room.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_02: Y'all gonna work the room.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_02: And so it comes, so it's not just the award, and that's what people need to know.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_02: It's not just about the award.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_02: When you go to those ceremonies, it's the relationships that come from those things.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_02: So it's actually long-term money for you.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, believe it or not.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_02: Because I've been blessed because of it.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_02: But so that's my thing.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_02: Who else can I bless and make sure that they get it?
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_02: Because they need to know the work that you're doing.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_02: Up north, they get highlighted all the time.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_02: Y'all need to know what's going on now.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_02: We got some great people that's doing some great things.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_02: And any chance that I get a chance to highlight somebody, if I got a budget that I can restroke a check or she got something, we do it.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_02: We do it.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_02: So that's our that's our dynamic of if you want to call being a power couple.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_02: I'm glad to be able to express it because I never really talk about it.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_02: You just do it.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_02: Um, but this has really been great, man.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_02: It's been therapeutic.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_02: It brought back some things to my memory.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_02: You're gonna get in the car and be like, dang, this is good.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_02: I like you.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_02: It's been like you guys really have a ministry in this.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_02: Outside of the insurance, what you guys are building, the brand is lovely.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_02: So, and y'all got some great mentors, you know what I mean?
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_02: You got freaking Nick Hunt.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_02: You got uh uh uh uh I mean I've been searching for yeah uh um mentors so because I can't really get the mentor that I want, I I become the mentor.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_02: I become the mentor for the young kids, and I'm loving the college age.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_02: I thought I like high school, it's college.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_02: It's the college kids because they know what they want.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_02: I was like, man, I knew what I wanted, but then I know I like them.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_02: But Iron Sharpers iron.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_02: And these young people, man, they got a plan.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_02: Dell State, college of business, them young people are going.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_02: And I love pouring into them.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_02: But here's the thing it's dope for them to be like call me, Dr.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_02: Benson, what do you think about this?
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_02: I'm looking at doing this, and you giving them a blueprint, they execute, and it comes to pass for them.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_02: And that's the impact.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_02: And man, that's the impact.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_02: I've seen the same thing with her.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_02: You go from working at Walmart and now you're a VP.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_02: You're executive of Marketing.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_02: And you're not a president.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_02: So I I I love that.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_02: And even strategically, with your boards, I tell people, I said, yo, I was on all these boards or whatever.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_02: I backed up on that.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_02: Now you gotta be strategic.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_02: What is your career?
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_02: Now mine's a good thing.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_02: What is it you want to do?
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_02: How much impact can you get?
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_02: Because here's the thing one of the one of the programs that I I dislike, and it's just me being selfish, uh, do more for 24.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_02: Do y'all get hit with that?
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_02: Where everybody asked for the first time.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_02: Because everybody's asking for the same funds.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_02: But I'm saying that because you're a part of all these organizations, and this is the thing.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_02: Rather than me giving your foundation a thousand dollars, I gotta split it up.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_02: $100 here,$100, and everybody's happy.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_02: But yeah, it's the lack of impact.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_02: I don't have enough to give to all of them.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_02: Because there's so many people that I do want to give to, I just don't have enough.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_02: And so this year I'll get to you.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_02: Next year I can't get to you because somebody else wants to get on it.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_02: You see what I'm saying?
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_02: And that's what I uh that's what I'm talking about.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_02: So as a whole, the program's good, but because I don't have all that I want, I can't stroke the check to everybody else because everybody's doing good work.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_02: Everybody's doing good work.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_02: So very proud of you guys.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_02: Thank you for having us.
