- 0:08[SPEAKER_07]: Hey everybody, welcome back to the Greenball Game Land Podcast.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_07]: We're queer friends and allies gathered to review and discuss the original X-Men comics in continuity order.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_07]: And what a journey it has been in 2025 on Greenball Game Land.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_07]: We opened this year with a new logo.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_07]: We opened with giant size X-Men number one, which was delicious and delightful.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_07]: And I've had such an incredible time crafting the show throughout this year.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_07]: We're ending the year in 1976.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_07]: And the theme on my show this month is eyeballs.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_07]: Talk to you more about that as we go on, but we're having an eyeball theme on Grimalkin Lane.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_07]: However, we're opening the show with X-Men number 100.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_07]: Chris Claremont's kind of first big story arc rounding out what's coming up in the next year of him writing the X-Men.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_07]: We're going to be reading the script of a greater love half
- 0:57[SPEAKER_07]: with no X-Men from X-Men 100 in August 1976.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_07]: Chris Claremann is the writer, Dave Cockram, on art.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_07]: Bonnie Wilford is the colorist.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_07]: We've got a net coqueky on letters and Marv Wolfman is the editor.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_07]: I have a huge cast with us because it's a huge roster of characters today.

- 1:29[SPEAKER_18]: I'm Sean Rohani, and I'll be Wolverine and Ned Buckman.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_17]: Don't worry, again.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_17]: Minas with Mike Doven, y'all Colossus, so what do you...

- 2:23[SPEAKER_07]: Alright, it here we go.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_07]: Crack open your books through believers.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_07]: It's X-Men 100.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_07]: And last, the spectacular 100th issue with X-Men.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_07]: The logo stands bold and red and black against a white background.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_07]: The heads of Banshee, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm, Cyclops, and Wolverine adorn the top cover box.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_07]: And on the cover, as Professor at Extans over his crashed wheelchair, he's standing, so there's a hit for a sentimental status at the story.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_07]: His arms are raised as he shouts.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_07]: His head is glowing with telepathic energy, and the two teams of X-Men from different time periods face-off against each other.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_07]: On the left we have Cyclops and his dark blue and yellow, and on the ready spacing off with Colossus in red gold over his silver frame.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_07]: On the left Marvel girl in her green mini dress and on the right storm in black with her gorgeous white hair.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_07]: On the left beast in dark blue and red, and his human form, his feet bare, and on the right night crawler, red and ebbin black on his dark furry frame.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_07]: On the left angel,
- 3:21[SPEAKER_07]: in Dark Blue and White, the halo on his chest and on the right, Vanshee and Green and Gold, on the left, Ice Man covered in ice head to toe and on the right Wolverine and Yellow and Black, his closet.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_07]: And this is the cover that launched a thousand covers.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_07]: I guarantee you have seen this cover parodied so many times, culminating in the beginning of the X-Men cartoon where the two teams run into each other as the credits roll.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_07]: Alright, here we go.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_07]: Cyclops, Storm, Banshee, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Colossus.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_07]: Children of the Adam, students of Charles Xavier, mutants feared and hated by the world they have sworn to protect.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_07]: They are the strangest heroes of all.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_07]: Stanley presents the uncanny X-Men in Greater Love Hath No X-Men.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_07]: Previously on X-Men, depicted Steven Lang launched Project Armageddon, a government funded program building mutant hunting sentemals on an orbiting space station.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_07]: and the sentinals have captured the X-Men, but as laying faces to feed the new X-Men are seemingly attacked by the X-Men of a hole.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_07]: As Stephen laying rants, a massive view screen plays the battle happening nearby, the all-new all-different X-Men are facing off against sentinals, designed in the form of the original X-Men, with complete scientific copies of their powers, but the readers don't know the secret yet, and neither do the X-Men.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_07]: This story will also include pages from Classic X-Men Number 8.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_07]: Lang here's the Angel and Ice Man X-Centinals bantering with each other.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_07]: You can hear Professor X-Cru.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_04]: Those imposter are the deadliest foes we've ever faced.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_16]: So what do we wait for, Bird Brain?
- 4:50[SPEAKER_16]: Let's waste up, and let's do it now.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_07]: Laughter, rich, malevolent echoing through the darkened corridors of shields, long abandoned orbital platform.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_07]: The laughter of Stephen Lang had a project Armageddon.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_07]: The laughter of a man who has
- 5:04[SPEAKER_09]: Wanda!
- 5:05[SPEAKER_09]: I have a lot in a few moments X-MAM will be killing X-MAM, and when this battle is done, no power on Earth will be able to stop me from achieving my ultimate goal.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_09]: The extermination of human kind!
- 5:16[SPEAKER_09]: Once they had all been friends, now all is chaos.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_04]: Angel knocks Banshee out of the air.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_04]: You've got one heck of a nerve Banshee.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_04]: Where does a two-bit crook like you get off calling himself an X-MAM?
- 5:27[SPEAKER_07]: Iceman launches on an ice slide and splats Wolverine in the face with a snowball.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_07]: Splot Marvel girl hurls machinery through the air.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_07]: That's right.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_07]: Our gene gray is also not in this room.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_07]: So this is also a Sentinel.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_07]: Heads up, midget.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_07]: Sorry.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_07]: Colossus socks have a great in the jaw as Polaris watches.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_17]: But I do not understand this madness.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_17]: Nor why you seek our deaths the second time.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_17]: Yeah, Vic.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_17]: But if you think my comrades and I are going to give up without a fight, think again.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_07]: Their own leader Cyclops is out of the room, but this Cyclops fires at Storm and Nightcrawler with an optic blast.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_12]: Listen to me, all of you, there is no need for violence.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_12]: We wish none of you harm, let us sit down and talk, and we must make them understand.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_03]: It is too late for understanding Storm.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_03]: Look at these so-called friends of ours, acting more like panic humans than X-Men.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_03]: Look into their eyes, they're out for blood Storm, our blood.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_07]: As Professor X shots with a raised fist beast bounce forward, punching the wall as night crawler jumps out of the way.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_07]: Clearly, I'm past as my X-Men.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_03]: Kill them all!
- 6:27[SPEAKER_03]: Indeed, fun of them is after me.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_03]: You are called the beast, are you not?
- 6:32[SPEAKER_03]: I recognize you from some old photographs, but I thought you'd go no hairry and join the Avengers.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_20]: Oh, you anthropomorphic elf, the bestful beast has never been here, zoo'd, and as for the rest, they threw you out!
- 6:44[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, the beast spirals around Agile and sweeps Nightcrawler off his feet with a walk!
- 6:50[SPEAKER_20]: Sorry, my friend, but since you will not come to me, the beast and his dexterous digits must... ...of a surety come up to you.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_20]: He's speed, agility, it is phenomenal, I have never seen the like!
- 7:02[SPEAKER_13]: Oh, woo!
- 7:02[SPEAKER_07]: Nightcrawler spirals into Cyclops, knocking the imposter down.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_20]: Oops, sorry, O'Don'tless leader.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_20]: It seems the floor is more crowded than I thought.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_03]: Cyclops, via the fighting amongst ourselves.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_03]: What's a death threat of Stephen Lang?
- 7:16[SPEAKER_03]: Of his centenels!
- 7:17[SPEAKER_03]: Wait, what's happened to your visor?
- 7:19[SPEAKER_14]: You've got it wrong, Mr. You're the threat.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_14]: And here's where you get eliminated.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_07]: As the fake Cyclops hits that crawler with a full blast, Wolverine is busy hacking his claws through the ice walls that the fake Iceman keeps putting up.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_07]: Shacked!
- 7:33[SPEAKER_07]: Nightcrawler!
- 7:34[SPEAKER_16]: He took sidesblast head on.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_16]: He's down.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_16]: And he ate moving.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_16]: Worried about yourself, fella.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_16]: Another second, and he'll be on ice.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_16]: Permanently.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_16]: Well, you ain't got that second, Bob.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_07]: But the fake angel swoops in and grabs Wolverine, throwing him into Colossus.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_04]: Wham!
- 7:48[SPEAKER_04]: Hey now, let's be nice to the kid pint size.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_04]: Iceman might be kind of dumb at times, but we think he's lovable.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_04]: Put me down, your feathered creep.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_04]: I'll clip your wings for good.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_04]: Threats, always threats.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_04]: You want down midget?
- 8:01[SPEAKER_04]: Then the angel will be glad to apply here to and head catch.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_17]: Wolverine, no!
- 8:05[SPEAKER_17]: They cannot get the out of your way and tight.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_17]: Wolverine, the hatred in his voice.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_17]: Did you hear?
- 8:10[SPEAKER_19]: I heard it already.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_19]: Now get us out of here, Colossus, that wing, yo-yo, owes me a rematch.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_19]: As you wish, my friend.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_19]: Okay, then, just like we did it in the danger room, the fastball special.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_19]: Execute now.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_07]: And for the first time ever, Colossus pitches Wolverine, claws out at the target like a baseball.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_07]: It's the first fastball special, everybody.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_07]: Angel is not ready.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_07]: What, uh, and havoc unleashes a plasma burst lighting the room golden as Colossus is violently struck.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_07]: And yes, havoc is also a Sentinel.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_08]: That little stunt is all she wrote, pal.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_08]: And if you're wondering which X man has the pleasure of blasting you from here to Hades, all you have to do is cry havoc.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_17]: I know who you are assassin, such power, and never dreamed, where a human that blast would have burned me to a crisp, but even my armory body has its limits.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_17]: By all that I hold dear, he is causing me pain, they cannot stand much more of this, but I will stand, I will, I must survive.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_17]: Here me have it, closest is coming for you, and I will not be stopped.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_17]: Twice now you have tried to kill us in cold blood, kill those who called you comrade in front.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_17]: No mercy, just mad, uncontrolled broochery, you are beneath contempt and colossus swears that from this day forth, you will butcher, no more.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_07]: Thalusus grabs a steel girder and swings it like a baseball bat, violently knocking havoc over, crumb, nearby the fake Marvel girl slams telekinetic constructs at storm, who has used the winds to make herself fly.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_12]: seeing grace powers seem much weaker than usual.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_12]: I could deal with her easily, but I cannot bring myself to harm her.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_12]: I must use reason instead.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_12]: Jean, why have you turned against your friends?
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: You're no friend of mine, which?
- 9:55[SPEAKER_12]: Then what are the hours we spent together?
- 9:57[SPEAKER_12]: The confidence is we shared.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know you.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: Never talk to you.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: Never share the confidence.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's a cheap shot lady, and it won't work.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: How can you deny the truth?
- 10:08[SPEAKER_12]: And why such hatred?
- 10:10[SPEAKER_12]: How could your brief captivity have made you so unlike yourself?
- 10:13[SPEAKER_12]: Unless you're not yourself at all, you're true self, of course, that must be it.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_07]: You're the impass... Don't mistruck from behind by a pile of metal hurled by the Sentinel Polaris.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_07]: Bro!
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: Beautiful move, Lorna.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: I kept this storm character occupied while you slipped in and let her have it with a magnetic force blast.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: And now the ladies down in helpless.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: Let's finish her.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: Makes the hands under the debris.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: Cunts, pull free.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: No chance for escape.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: No chance at all.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_15]: Marvel girl.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_15]: We're being attacked from behind, but who?
- 10:47[SPEAKER_07]: Give it.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_07]: Give me one word.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_07]: Just like it a slightly lower register.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_07]: Just to make sure it picks up.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_07]: Oh my god, this is how I want fancy-discreetball at the time.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's the banshee.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: He's using his sonic powers to drive us away from storm.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: Come on, Lorna.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: Let's get back to the others.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: These imposters barely held us this time.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: Another attack will finish them.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_05]: I ladies, run back to your hidey holes.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_05]: And while you're running, thanks a lot that the banshee doesn't hold with killing.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_17]: Colossus, my leg.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_17]: won't be afraid storm.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_17]: They will have you three in a moment.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_05]: They'll be on top of us in another moment.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_05]: Only chances to fight is a team.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_05]: And we're in a blazes as Wolverine got to.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_19]: I'm over here, Irish.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_19]: And I'm heading for the top man, Xavier.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_19]: The Wolverine's calling you out, Bob.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_19]: I'm burning on a short fuse, chrome dome.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_19]: So you've got about three seconds to make what the answer is, or else.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_07]: Wolverine holds a fist toward the fake Xavier's face.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_07]: The threat of this clause popping very apparent.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_07]: And Professor Xavier shocks Wolverine.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_07]: by standing up, then punching him right in the jaw.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_11]: Your threats do not impress me Wolverine.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_11]: In fact, very little about you and presses me.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_11]: Holy, one of my mind blasts has the power to shrivel you where you stand, little man, but my fist contains all the power you deserve.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_07]: Ow, and the fake Marvel girl is right behind it with a psychic burst to the brain.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_11]: On your feet, my friend, I want the satisfaction of knocking you down again.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_19]: Nice punch, prof.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_19]: I'll give you that, but I ain't going down
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the contrary Wolverine, you are going down, only you won't be getting up again, ever.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_11]: Good girl, Jean.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_11]: This arrogant fool hasn't a chance against your mental powers.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_19]: Lord, my brain feels like it's burning.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_19]: Can't think for the pain, only my instincts left too guide me.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_19]: Yeah.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_19]: My instincts, my sense.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: It won't be long now, Professor.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_19]: Right, they're lady.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_19]: Only you've got it backwards.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_19]: Just couldn't see till now.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_19]: You see folks, I'm like an animal.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_19]: I don't know from faces.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_19]: I know from sense, voices, feelings.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_19]: I also know Jean Grey, and Lady, whatever you are, you ain't Jean Grey.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_07]: Remembering how he recently cut Jean's dress off right at the table, Wolverine puffs his claws, launches forward and stabs with six adamantium claws.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_07]: There isn't even time for a scream.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_07]: Let loose ghosts, no!
- 13:08[SPEAKER_05]: Whatever, you bloody homesty to the maniac, whatever you don't!
- 13:11[SPEAKER_07]: Back in the observation room, Stephen Lang isn't laughing anymore.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_07]: I'm sure.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_07]: Shipped to camera free immediately, I must see what's happening.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_07]: Leng gets a full image of the gutted Marvel girl, but her insides are shredded machine parts.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_07]: Done.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_07]: I'm... Met the enemy, Bob.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_07]: And they ain't us.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_09]: How?
- 13:28[SPEAKER_09]: By all that's holy, how could this happen?
- 13:29[SPEAKER_09]: My ex-centals were a stroke of genius.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_09]: The ultimate and anti-mutant technology.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_09]: They should have been unbeatable.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_09]: The new ex-man should have died.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_09]: Not my sentinals, and the ex-man will die.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_09]: But this game is far from over.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_07]: The camera shifts to show the four captives, Professor X, Peter Corbo, Jean Gray, and her ripped black dress, and Cyclops.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_07]: Each of them in a stasis tube, with Xavier's power blocking helmet still on, and Lang begins to monologue, ranting in his white jump suit, red boots and belt, the A for Armageddon on his shirt,
- 13:58[SPEAKER_07]: There's a full splash page of him, a double page spread with him in the middle, and he's giving almost little rascals energy as he rants at the sky.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_07]: It's kind of entertaining.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_07]: In a series of flashbacks, young Stephen Lang is studying a captive vanisher with machines.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_07]: Lang studies the notes of Larry Trask and another.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_07]: Then he stands with the hooded inner circle of the Hellfire Club, called the Council of the Chosen here, more on them in a few minutes.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_07]: an image of the designed ex-centenals runs as America explodes behind them in Lang's recounting of how the council saw the future unfolding.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_09]: You all look surprised, you shouldn't be like always been nothing investigation of you in kind but it's total complete extermination.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_09]: I began quietly enough that's true.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_09]: Head of a government project that was trying to determine why meetings exist.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_09]: My position gave me access to nitlary tracts, upstate New York base.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_09]: And all is notes.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_09]: It was there that became convinced that mutants were a threat to humanity.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_09]: I determined to deal with that threat.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_09]: And so became involved with the council of the chosen.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_09]: They had their own plans for you mutants.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_09]: They offered me money, material.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_09]: All the help I needed, never realizing that I planned to betray them.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_09]: They wanted to control mutant kind and mutant powers for their own benefit.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_09]: I simply wanted you all dead.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_07]: Back on the view screen, the fight continues as the technician rushes to the camera, pleading for laying to help.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_12]: Our foes, not the X-Men at all.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_12]: They are unlivened mechanisms.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_08]: Mr. Lang, damage report, big trouble, sir.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_08]: Fire on Delta level is out of control, auto suppression systems, and operative.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_08]: Command elements, failing through the platform, multiple whole breaches as well.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_08]: We're suffering a progressive loss of environment integrity.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_08]: The lights, sir.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_08]: We've lost primary electronic.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_09]: Then shift to secondary's idiot.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_09]: We have more than sufficient redundancy systems to cope with any contingency.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_09]: That's a youth thing.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_09]: If you're so scared, techno, a band and ship, I'll finish the muties by myself.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_14]: These negatives are designed to inhibit the use of our mutant powers.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_14]: But each fluctuation in the station's power grid disrupts this tube's energy field as well.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_14]: I can fire my optic blasts.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_14]: If I keep up the pressure full strain, please.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_14]: Lord, let it be enough to break free.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_09]: And I shall use mutant kind strongest defendors as an executioner, and who better for the existentialist's victims in the real X-Men?
- 16:09[SPEAKER_09]: Still, one defeat doesn't mean that the worst!
- 16:11[SPEAKER_09]: Lord, the negative hits glowing white hop!
- 16:13[SPEAKER_07]: Rack!
- 16:14[SPEAKER_07]: Cyclops escapes with a powerful optic blast, that he quickly turns to free the others, with one blast across all of the negatives.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_07]: Frack!
- 16:22[SPEAKER_14]: Dr. Loving, I think you've said enough.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_08]: Oh my god!
- 16:25[SPEAKER_08]: Liberation day folks, everybody out!
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: Professor X, he's still unconscious.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_08]: Not to worry Miss Gray.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_08]: I'll catch him leaving so soon.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_08]: I think that's awfully rude of you But then what else can you expect from a murdering coward?
- 16:36[SPEAKER_07]: I kind of wish Leng had done like Janice from friends.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_07]: Oh my god
- 16:43[SPEAKER_07]: Cyclops fires another blast, scow, but Lang is running for it into a gunship designed just for him.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_09]: Coward, you dare combing a coward, I'm a man, Cyclops, which is more than you'll ever be you, you swine!
- 16:55[SPEAKER_09]: Do you hear me?
- 16:56[SPEAKER_09]: Homo, so called superior, I'm a man, I'm better than any of you, better than all of you.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_09]: And now that I've reached my flying gunship, I'll prove it.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_14]: You know, proving a thing Lang, it's said how sick and twisted you are inside.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_14]: I've thought a lot of villains in my time, Mr.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_08]: But until I met you, I never hated before.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_07]: Before the mutants can react, the ship opens fire on Cyclops.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_07]: Squas, while on the viewing screen, Banshee and Storm are destroying the X-centitals, one by one with lightning and sonic screams.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_07]: Polaris Cyclops beast, Professor X, and Angel's robots are all reduced to scraps.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_07]: Cyclops evades the gunfire and hits the gunship with another blast, and Jean Grey glows orange as she summons psychic energy around her.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_08]: You'd have hound us without mercy exterminate us.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_08]: For no other reason, then we're different from your conception of humanity.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_08]: Just who do you think you are?
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: And for your information, Dr. Lang, you won't be killing anyone today.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_09]: My controls, they're moving by themselves.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_09]: Gotta break free, get away before I'm captured.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_09]: I can do it!
- 17:55[SPEAKER_09]: I'm a man!
- 17:56[SPEAKER_09]: My will is stronger than any mutant witches.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_09]: All I have to do is hit full power on the thrusters.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_09]: Oh no, the controls are jammed.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_09]: I can't turn.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_09]: Help me!
- 18:03[SPEAKER_09]: Somebody, absolute help me!
- 18:05[SPEAKER_09]: I'm heading right for the screen.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_09]: I'm going to-
- 18:06[SPEAKER_07]: and the entire ship explodes.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_07]: Crash as Cyclops, Marvel Girl and Corbowe carrying the unconscious Xavier are hit by the energy.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_07]: And in a bonus page added years later in the classic X-Men story, we see that Marvel Girl actually helped Steven Lang survive.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm alive.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks to my telekinetic protective field, unlike you, Lang, the X-Men don't kill.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: You're going back to Earth to stand trial for your crime.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_09]: I can't wait, fools.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_09]: There isn't a theory in the world who can victimate.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_09]: They won't consider me the villain, but the hero.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_07]: Suddenly, without warning, scram, there's another massive explosion.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_07]: And this time, Lang seems lost.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_07]: as Jean protects her allies, Banshee, Storm, Colossus, and Wolverine tear through the wall between the two rooms.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 18:50[SPEAKER_19]: Propelant explosion, biggest one yet, punched the heart of this monkey house, fire spread in our way, move it, Chums, Holdrens, I filmed him, and they still live.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_05]: It's quite jabber and colossus, and let's get them out of here.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_05]: This whole section of the spice platforms are blaze, and the foyer spread and lanks free boot and guns have already evacuated in their entry, Lloyd Boats.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_05]: Where the only people left were a board of station that could blow itself to bits in any minute now.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_07]: Uh, betchies accent makes it sound like the spice station, which makes me think of like the headquarters of the spice girls from the spice world.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_05]: It's also where the spacing guild lives, you know?
- 19:23[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, it's the point.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_05]: It's my most warm.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_07]: A few minutes later, the X-Men follow Corbou into an airship as the larger space station burns around them, but their ship itself is damaged.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_14]: We haven't much time.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_08]: Wrong Cyclops.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_08]: We have all the time in the world, because we're sure not going anywhere, at least not in this crate.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_08]: The flight control computer must have gotten slagged during our little fracus with the setinals.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_08]: And without it, we're good as finished.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_19]: What about a manual reentry?
- 19:50[SPEAKER_08]: What about a Wolverine?
- 19:51[SPEAKER_08]: In case you had noticed, we've got a thumb and great hole in the ship's hull.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_08]: And thanks again to the sendals, no functional pressure suits.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_08]: But that's the least of our problems.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_08]: Isvistay and her doctor the solar flare?
- 20:02[SPEAKER_08]: You've got a night crawler, the worst flare in years.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_08]: The computer was supposed to fly us through it, while we sat safe and sound in the shuttle's shielded life cell.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_08]: Only we have no computer.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_08]: Sure, I can fly a reentry, no sweat.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_08]: But I wouldn't last 30 seconds in that flare.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_08]: One of you might survive the flare, but you can't pilot the shuttle.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_08]: We need someone who can do both.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_08]: And there's no such animal.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: Wrong, Dr. Corbot.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: I can do both.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_08]: Are you crazy, Jean?
- 20:24[SPEAKER_08]: Since what are you, will qualify to astronauts?
- 20:26[SPEAKER_00]: Since now, bold still, Dr.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_00]: This will only hurt a little.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a telepath Scott, remember?
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: I can absorb all Dr. Corbot's knowledge about flying this space shuttle.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_00]: I won't be a great pilot, but I'll be good enough to get us down.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_07]: Hink energy leaves the mind of Jean Grey and enters that of Corbo.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_07]: As she puts a hand on his forehead, she learns all she needs.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_07]: Cyclops grips both of her arms trying to reason with the woman he loves while she's working.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_07]: And how will you survive the solar flare you little?
- 20:53[SPEAKER_00]: My telekinetic powers will screen out the harmful radiation.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be all right.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_14]: We're how long.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_14]: Even your power can't handle that much though.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, perhaps not, but it can do this.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_07]: Marvel girl Zaps Cyclops with a telepathic blast that puts him to sleep.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_07]: Uh, something she does anytime she doesn't want sex and Ben, she is there to catch him.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: Take him after the life cell, Ben.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: She did.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm pretty hard there, Lossie.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: I meant to.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: By the time he wakes up, we'll be committed.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_07]: Wolverine grabs Jean's arms and concerned but she shouts at him and then shares an embrace with Storm who openly cries as the X-Men move into the protected part of the ship.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_07]: Nice shot, lady.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_07]: You buttoned for martyr the year or something.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_00]: Make it quick, Wolverine.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: I'm busy.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_19]: What are you trying to prove that you're as good and noble as Big Daddy X?
- 21:38[SPEAKER_19]: It's suicide, Jeannie.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: The name's Jean, Mr. and I have just about how it with you.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: I have tried to like you Wolverine of noxious little upstart that you are, but for the life of me, I don't know why I made the effort.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_00]: So shut your mouth and get into the lifestyle now.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_00]: Before I lose my temper, Jean, not you too, Aurora.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't bear it.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: Look, I have the best chance of survival.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's it, pure and simple.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's me or it's none of us.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: and may the gods protect you, Jean Grey.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you, Aurora.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: A last favor, my friend.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_00]: Would you tell Scott?
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: Tell him I loved him.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, lady.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's time to do your stuff.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_00]: Namely sealing the whole telekinetically with this piece of wreckage.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_07]: Pelicanetics moved the machinery into place.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: And away we go, RCS to 20% rear thrust.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: And we slide free of the station.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: Easy as pie.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure glad they built this bird to take punishment.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: Looks like it's collision with the station.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_00]: Didn't even scratch the surface.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_00]: Enough musing Jean love.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_00]: The life cell was designed to take a lot of radiation.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_00]: But in a flare like this, all bets are off.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: The sooner we're on the earth, the better.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_00]: According to StarCore, the flare is a minute away.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_00]: And it'll be half an hour at least before we're safe.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to die.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_07]: The ship begins rushing toward Earth, leaving a trail of fire behind it.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_07]: And in the rear of the ship, Cyclops has awakened and is desperate to save Gene.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_07]: Nightcrawler weeps as he and Colossus hold Scott back.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_14]: Scott, no!
- 23:06[SPEAKER_14]: If you open the life cell, you'll kill us all!
- 23:09[SPEAKER_14]: Let me go, Blast you!
- 23:10[SPEAKER_14]: Let me go to her before it's too late!
- 23:12[SPEAKER_14]: It's already too late, my friend.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_14]: Please, Kurt, I beg you, please.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: 27 minutes to Earth's atmosphere, not long at all, just the rest of my life.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: Corbobo wasn't kidding about this player, it's barely here and it's already pushing my powers to the limit, only consolation is that even Colossus wouldn't have survived this long.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_00]: So hold on, Jean, for the love of all you hold dear, hold on.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_07]: Jean-Gloze orange with power, colors spiraling around the ship in the solar flare.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_07]: The minutes tick on, slowly, painfully, and soon cosmic rays begin to bombard the ship.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_07]: It's cosmic rays.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_07]: The same sound effects used in fantastic four number one.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_00]: 20 minutes to go, but drain can't take much.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_00]: Oh no, my screen's starting to give way.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: The flare, the radiation, it's starting to get through.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_00]: Scott!
- 24:04[SPEAKER_07]: And to be concluded, next time.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_07]: But first, we're gonna jump over to classic X-Men number seven, the second story called out with the old.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_07]: It's March 1987,
- 24:16[SPEAKER_07]: Chris Claremont, John Bolton, Glynis Oliver, Tom, or Zacowski with Annie Nescenty and Terry Kavanaugh on edits.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_07]: On the back cover of this issue, if you flip it over, there's a gorgeous full page image of Emma Frost in White against the Browns Blacks and Reds of the Hellfire Club.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_07]: She has dressed full-slutty white lingerie, thigh-high boots, white cape, blonde hair, it's the whole thing.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_07]: Christmas has passed, the old year is nearly done, and in celebration New York's infamous Hellfire Club presents its annual gala.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_07]: There's no more exclusive establishment in the world, and yet no more egalitarian.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_07]: Anyone can belong provided he or she is wealthy beyond all measure.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_07]: Within these walls, these most powerful of people are free from the cloying constraints of society and custom.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_07]: In an atmosphere that harkens to an earlier rougher age, there are few rules
- 25:15[SPEAKER_07]: All things are possible, and virtually nothing is forbidden.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_07]: The White King, Dead Buckman, sits on the throne wearing all-wide a drink in his hand, the White Queen, Paris Seville, next to him, and an elegant green dress.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_07]: On the dense floor, a group of old white men, many empowered wigs dance with old white women.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_07]: A red-headed woman in black leather corset, panties, gloves, heel boots, and spike collar, serves drinks as the old men lust after her.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_07]: In the forefront, Sebastian Shaw wears a purple suit, a black bow fastened to his ponytail, his black mutton chops combed, a white crevote around his neck.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_07]: He dances with Lord of Shuntel, who wears a patterned black lace dress, dress gloves, and a veil over her thick black hair.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_12]: You are a fool to trust the white kings of Ashton.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_08]: Edward Buckman is the club's president, Melady.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_08]: My patron and my friend.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_12]: False friend, lying patron.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_12]: He is a human.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_12]: We are mutants.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_12]: Can you not see how much he hates us?
- 26:10[SPEAKER_07]: As Lorna's whispers into Sebastian's ear, the white king and queen approach.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_18]: Have you met my white queen, Sebastian?
- 26:17[SPEAKER_18]: Paris, Civil?
- 26:17[SPEAKER_18]: Your servant, Bamb.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_18]: May I, in turn, present Lord Edge, and Hell?
- 26:21[SPEAKER_18]: John, you'll make a fitting black king old top.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_08]: You really do look the pot.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_08]: King words, Edward.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_08]: But no amount of fine or your education will smooth my rough edges.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_08]: You were born to wealth.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_18]: I forged mine.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_18]: From nothing.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_18]: The American Dream, all-top, a ratio audio would be proud.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_18]: By the way, the latest reports from Stephen Lang are everything we hope for, and more.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_18]: Project Armageddon looks to be a complete success.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_18]: It wouldn't have been possible without use of action.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_18]: Rest assured, the council of the chosen will not let such stalwart service go unrewarded.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_18]: Now, if you'll excuse me, I promised my queen this vault.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_07]: Loris takes Sebastian's arm as they go walking off to the side to talk to Tessa, a mutant placed in a secretive position among the scantily clad serving girls.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_07]: She's working for Professor X, but that's not a revelation we'll get for many years hence.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_12]: The charm of stalking Colora with the fangs to match.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_12]: The X men have always defended mutant kind, yet buckling wishes them fed.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_08]: rubbish.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_08]: Our aim is to isolate the genetic ex-factor that creates enhanced power being like ourselves, so we can properly explode it in the marketplace.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_08]: The ex-men are simply the most suitable guinea pigs.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_12]: Old fast fear finds a secret evil.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_08]: Enough!
- 27:30[SPEAKER_08]: Tessa!
- 27:30[SPEAKER_08]: Edward Buckman's behavior.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_08]: Observation and analysis, please.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_15]: The White King's solicitude may indicate a genuine regard shall.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_15]: Alternatively, it is classic military strategy to to disarm one's foe by pretending friendship prior to an attack.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_08]: That isn't helpful, woman.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_15]: It is the best I can do without additional death.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_08]: Are you both determined to drive me mad?
- 27:53[SPEAKER_08]: Much of what I am.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_08]: I owe to Nick.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_08]: And yet, Emma, can you hear my thoughts?
- 27:57[SPEAKER_07]: Shaw steps out onto the balcony, in the following snow, as he telepathically interfaces with Emma Frost.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_07]: She manifests before him, asteroidly, wearing a white corset and panties, white boots, and a fur-lined white cape.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_00]: Always Sebastian, even from the farthest reaches of the world.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_08]: 80s are all my women determined to draw their pint of blood tonight?
- 28:17[SPEAKER_08]: Lordares is worried.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_07]: A hundred miles eastward beyond East Hampton and a stance physically in a remote home.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_07]: The yard covered in a heavy snow.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_07]: Inside, she stands beside the body of Colonel Michael Rossi, who'd recently been badly injured for speaking out against Stephen Lang in a previous script read if you recall.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_00]: That is her nature, but in this instance, she may have good reason.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_08]: I was our guest, Emma.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: Colonel Rossi is alive, with proper care he will recover.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_00]: I have telepathically scanned his memories.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: His aircraft was attacked by sentinels while en route to Washington.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_00]: After Rossi's meeting with Steven Lang, Project Armageddon was originally proposed as a means of enhancing the Hellfire Club's wealth and power.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_00]: The rationale being that who, however, controls Mutant Kind will also control the world, but Rossi discovered its true purpose to bring about the total eradication of homo sapiens superior and the men responsible are Steven Lang and Edward Buckman.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_07]: Hearing this news, Sebastian Shaw is furious.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_07]: He slams his fist down twice, breaking a thick stone railing.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_07]: If you recall his powers are too absorbed, kinetic energy and become stronger as a result.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_07]: Ned, you lied to me.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_08]: I trusted you.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_08]: Believe didn't you.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_08]: I let my need for respect and acceptance cloud my instinct for survival.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_08]: How you must have laughed.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_07]: But suddenly a sensible shatters the ceiling above Rossi's convalescent room.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_07]: Emma looks up in a panic.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_04]: contact established with new interrogate code effects among frost files indicate scanning confirms targets mutant abilities are psionic in nature of minimal threat to this unit a Sentinel initiating termination program Shah storms back inside and a panic one of Lang's robots is attacking my beach house and then Harry Leeland having a prayer against it on their own lord is teleport us there at once the last thing i've never carried so many people such a distance i don't know if i can
- 30:14[SPEAKER_07]: and Shaw grips her neck aggressively.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_07]: I won't be refused, woman, do as you're told.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_07]: Electric energy surrounds Shaw, Shantel, and Tessa, as Shantel, who is a mutant teleporter, activates her powers.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_07]: In the blink of an eye, they travel from Manhattan to their destination.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_07]: They find Harry Leeland there, and a green suit, white shirt, green tie,
- 30:37[SPEAKER_20]: Saw, think heaven, Emma's in the next room.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_20]: I don't know what happened to her.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_20]: Tessa, tender lord is.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_20]: I'll deal with this metal monster.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_20]: An admiral ambition dear boy.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_20]: Better use than me.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_20]: Brilliant lawyer may be hairy, but considered to be less than a man.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_20]: Nervgas.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_07]: A correct Sebastian, the Sentinel fires a thick
- 30:56[SPEAKER_07]: Instead of gas from a small hole in its mechanical hand, shop punches into the wall swiftly, but the Sentinel is ready with a coil to restrain the villain.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_08]: Got to flatten to the remaining walls, so the wing can blow the gas away before it can do with any harm.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_08]: A good punch, the harder I strike, the stronger I get.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_08]: A few more like it, and I'll be on beep.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_15]: Ooh, ah, duh!
- 31:15[SPEAKER_15]: Lord, as, stay back, you're still too weak.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_12]: I don't care, Tessa.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_12]: I won't let him be harmed.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_07]: Lorda's grabbed Sean.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_07]: They disappear out of the coils.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_07]: She can't jump far.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_07]: Fortunately, she thinks she doesn't need to.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_07]: She's wrong.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_07]: The Sentinel fires a single spear and the metal pierces Lorda's who falls to the floor immediately dead.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_07]: Just give us a plan.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_07]: One more time, Savi.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_20]: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
- 31:59[SPEAKER_07]: The settlement begins to buckle under the under its increased weight as Leeland flexes as powers, as it falls through the floor, shallot begins pounding on the death machine with furious fists, under the strain of his powers, Leeland falls back on a chair as Emma checks on him.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_07]: Now, robot, you're where I can reach you.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_20]: Harry!
- 32:16[SPEAKER_20]: Sentinel resisting so much strain, my heart pounding so hard hurts, won't I won't give up?
- 32:24[SPEAKER_20]: I am... All right, Emma, glad to see you are too.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_08]: You're well-constructed, robot.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_08]: Omium steel frame.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_08]: Chobamama.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_08]: Shock oppressors.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_08]: Fast-acting damage control and repair systems.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_08]: But good as you are, you're only a machine.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_08]: And this man will prove always your better.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_07]: As the sentinel falls, Shaw rushes to Lorda Shantel's body as she lays in the ruin in her lay stress, speaking her last words weekly.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_08]: I only wish the victory were worth the price, forgive me, Lorda's, for bringing you into this.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_01]: Forgive Sebastian anything, always.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_15]: how much she loves him, how little he realized it.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_20]: Isn't there anything we can do?
- 33:01[SPEAKER_00]: My style powers are neutralizing her receptors.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: So she is in no pain beyond that.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_00]: You always, I could see the sun again.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: Scroll, as Ramallah's at home in Barcelona.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_01]: Pray your last time in the Sagrada Familia, or Sebastian, why does Buckman hate us?
- 33:16[SPEAKER_07]: And he kisses her on the lips as she dies, fear of what we are and what we represent.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_07]: Now, I'll give him calls.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_07]: Midnight, the council of the chosen minus, of course, Sebastian Shaw, Gathers for a special meeting, Ned Buckman and Paris Seville meet with a group of capped men in the shadows while masked hellfire guards and black and red stand guard at the entrances.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_18]: Welcome all, I have the very best of news, even as I speak.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_18]: The mutant present, among us, and the threat it represents, to humanity as much as the hellfire club is being dealt with permanently.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_07]: But Brooklyn takes out a gun and opens fire on both the guards, a gut shot and a headshot.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_07]: Blam, blam, then he turns the gun on the entire gathered group of hellfire leaders who barely have time to react before they are riddled with bullets.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_07]: Blam, blam, blam, blam, blam, blam, blam.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_07]: Then the gun has turned on Paris Civil, blam.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_07]: Ned, for pity's sick to- Oh!
- 34:09[SPEAKER_07]: Wait, this is insane.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_07]: What have I done?
- 34:11[SPEAKER_07]: What am I doing?
- 34:12[SPEAKER_07]: Then Buckman turns the gun on his own head as Sebastian Shaw and Emma Frost materialized.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_07]: Turns out she's been controlling his thoughts.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_08]: What comes naturally old-top, slaughtering those who trust you most.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_08]: You should be dead, right idea.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_08]: Wrong man.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_08]: I disconnected the telepathic inhibitors around this chamber.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_08]: My lady Emma's powers.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_08]: Now holds you completely enthralled.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_08]: You are her puppet.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_08]: Her slightest whim, your absolute command.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_08]: And your every thought, hers for the taking.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_08]: I wasn't your enemy, Ned, until you made me one.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_07]: Shoggrip's buckman's neck and lifts him up while taking the gun out of his hand.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_08]: Ah, the place, the only thing a man truly possesses is his word.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_08]: You gave me yours, I thought that means something.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_07]: And with one hand, the gun is crushed, cropped with the other, a neck is broken, snap.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_07]: Buckman's body crumples to the floor, his head hanging at an awkward angle.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_08]: The king is dead, and his counsel with it, a Lord as was worth a lot of them, and more, in their place, and her memory shall rise the Lord's cardinal.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_08]: No longer will meet and be victims, but rulers.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_08]: first of the Hellfire Club, and then the world.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_07]: And flanked by Emma Frost and Lady Tessa, Sebastian Shaw's mouth twists into an evil smile to be continued.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, okay, there's a lot that happens in this particular gathering.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_07]: My word, I know some of you did not have a lot of lines, but it is a joyful thing to have us all gathered together.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_07]: Seth, I would love for you to talk a little bit about Cyclops's.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_07]: journey in this issue.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_07]: It's heartbreaking.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, man, he's sad.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_07]: He can't.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_07]: He can't save Jean, even if he wants to do there's nothing you can do.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_07]: Jean really puts him in his place for a minute there.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, well, he usually deserves that.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_07]: But he also gets a big hero moment where he gets to free everyone from captivity.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_07]: So he gets a little time to shine here.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_08]: Sure, he just shoots his little beam in the same place really long time and doesn't that does the trick?
- 36:08[SPEAKER_08]: That's not really
- 36:10[SPEAKER_08]: doesn't feel like they think of a victory, but you know, you got out.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_07]: We've got to talk about genes, giant moments of sacrifice here as well and the way that she's interacting with the others.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_07]: She's trying to do her damn job and they won't leave her alone.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_00]: I really enjoyed it.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_00]: I like getting to it.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_00]: see different facets of Jean especially like as her character development progresses in the story.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like the choice to like put herself in this position of sacrificing herself is giving her a lot more agency as a character and you know it's really it was sad to be like okay I have to not knock out Cyclops so that I could go destroy myself but I loved yelling at Wolverine.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_00]: I lived for yelling at Wolverine.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_00]: I was like more times Virginia as I Wolverine.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_18]: hurt people hurt people gene you don't have to be so mean she was so touching and and loving was storm you know in her final moments but with Wolverine it's like god damn it I've tried to like you you're just so lame Wolverine just really let him have it
- 37:14[SPEAKER_07]: We also get this moment where just before all of this, he hacks the Marvel girl sentinel a part with his claws and then gets kind of tossed aside by Jean.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_07]: Crazy character stuff for them here.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_18]: I always like when I think that was that same moment where whenever tricks that work on most people don't work on Wolverine because of his animalistic instincts, it's always fun to watch slash read.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I also love just like the evil sentinel version of genes like nastiness to Wolverine is so different than like actual gene because I feel like actual gene is just frustrating because she actually really does like Wolverine and she's like annoyed with him asking her like why she wants to be a martyr and she's just like, can't you?
- 37:58[SPEAKER_00]: You just shut up and let me do this, but like, so she really, I think she really does like him.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_00]: She just doesn't want to be told that she's doing the wrong thing right now.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_00]: So she just lashes out whereas like Marvel girl X is just bitter for the sake of being evil and that's fun.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_07]: So this is a huge moment for this character.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_07]: This defines everything for Gene Gray before and since.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_07]: This is a great, like, time lost out of the cosmos, zooming to God level power stuff.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_07]: As the Phoenix Force makes its debut.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_07]: As we open the year on Grimalkin Lane in 2026, we begin there.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_07]: Little sad to see Scott Lango after this.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_07]: He was a great villain for all of his monologing.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_07]: I like that you called him Scott Lang, which is the Ant-Man character.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_07]: Oh shit, what's his name?
- 38:44[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, that guy.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_14]: No, I'm Seth Martell.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_14]: You can find me at SC Martell at Instagram or some other socials probably.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_14]: And a follow me if you'd like to see some art or perhaps the trolley problem series that I've been doing with Chad from Gramelken.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_07]: Thank you.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_07]: All right, but I get out of here.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_07]: Thank you very much.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_07]: It's good to see you.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_07]: So continuing our trend, there's an interesting thing with Gene's powers here.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_07]: I like to view telepaths, right?
- 39:09[SPEAKER_07]: Like, Betsy is a butterfly.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_07]: There's kind of different ways of viewing characters.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_07]: I think it's Professor X, almost like a satellite.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_07]: There's an issue of cricoagene where she describes her powers kind of like a flashlight, where she can do the beam wide or narrow as she's searching for something.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_07]: So I get this kind of odd image of her focusing the beam in Corbos Brain, finding the skill set that's related to like astronaut or Starship piloting, and then like mouse clicking it over and like dropping it into her own brain.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_07]: powers here.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_07]: We've seen the professor like teach the X-Men English with like this kind of skill set development.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think that it's it's really interesting to think that like how she's downloading it.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_00]: She doesn't have to learn it.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_00]: She's just like it and I know this now and I also think that and of itself is a is a strength for her power but doing that.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_00]: using her power to be on the outside and take care of everybody.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like she's doing so many things out once that I think that it's really cool to see like or think about like how is she like segmenting her brain in order to do all those things at once because she has some main team concentration on all of them.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like she just downloaded the information and then doesn't have to like concentrate on using that information while also protecting herself while also moving the ship while also protecting everybody else.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_00]: So it's cool to see that she's like breaking it down in all these areas and like how strong she actually is.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_07]: The decision to just knock Cyclops out.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there was no time.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_00]: You have like, we're all time for this conversation, Scott.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_18]: I was gonna say, while also having to like deflect a bunch of whiny men, you know, like, she's got a lot on her plate.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_15]: I mean, a woman's true superpower is multi-tasking and not taking shit from men when she has to get shit done.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_15]: Yes, absolutely.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_07]: Good to see.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_07]: It's a really incredible moment for this character and quite transformative as we have kind of this like solar flare in the background, and it's a really true kind of superhero story, right?
- 41:04[SPEAKER_07]: Just when you think the threat or the villain is ended, we see the wider threat of what's happening as a result.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_07]: Jean also in this kind of added page in classic X-Men gets the moment of compassion for Lang, like she could have let him die, but she let him survive and then he blows himself up.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why she did it.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like don't save Lang.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_00]: I feel conflicted.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, oh, did you do it?
- 41:29[SPEAKER_00]: Just so you could tell him that you did it.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_00]: Just so you could feel bad.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like he could feel smaller.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: But you should just let him die.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_07]: Okay, then we have the big villain of the arc.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_07]: At least in the first half, Steven Lang here, who is going through it.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_07]: We, we comments on him.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_07]: He has like some little rascals energy.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_07]: He's dancing, which makes me really happy.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_07]: He keeps saying, I'm a man, Jacob, but welcome back as Steven Lang, my friend.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_09]: I love that Jean saved him, because after all these were superhero comic books, and she's a superhero.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_09]: So she does the right thing, even when the right thing costs her, and even when it seems kind of dumb.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_09]: After he said, I'm a man over and over again.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_09]: She proved that she's got a better grasp of what it means to be human than he does.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_15]: He's so awful.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_15]: He's so terrible, and he is everything that I feel like we're still dealing with today when it comes to certain government leaders, where they feel the need to exert whatever man control that they possibly can in order to make other people feel inferior when it's like dude, like you're terrible, like you're awful and you also fail at this.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_07]: I think there's a lot in this back story that could be explored.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_07]: We've never really seen anything done with him.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_07]: Now after this, he does survive this.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_07]: There's a couple different interpretations.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_07]: His corpse kind of gets discovered by people later, but also he uploads his mind into master mold, which becomes part of the walking stomping master mold that's hunting mutants, which then combines with Nimrod to create bastion.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_07]: So Steven Lang's mind has existed in the continuity in weird ways.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_07]: He also gets resurrected by the TechNark virus later in those crazy export stories.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_07]: So this guy has some legacy, but we get some flashback panels that show a little bit of behind the scenes potential.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_07]: He seems to have an odd connection to the tracks.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_07]: He's reading the journals of Larry Trask, who is a mutant who is also has the power of prophecy.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_07]: And we also get this kind of odd image of him studying the vanisher.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_07]: The Venetra later returns in the champions with the pack of sentinals that he reprogrammed to go after the X-Men.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_07]: So you kind of wonder if he was on the space station the whole time, and if the X-Men had found him, could he have teleported the multi-earth, so he's right behind the scenes in all of this, which is an interesting read as well.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_09]: I just think it's the most iconic X-Men villainy's bigotry.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_09]: It's the only one that will never change, that will never join the team.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_09]: So I always think it's the best when the X-Men are fighting.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_09]: The concept of a bigotry and one man being superior to another.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_08]: I think one thing that's interesting with his trajectory after this story is like you talked about he is someone who is very much trying to exert, or like demand imagine he's trying to exert control by influencing people's bodies by taking away their bodily autonomy.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_08]: And then his trajectory for the next however many decades in comics is
- 44:21[SPEAKER_08]: in order to join a larger, more powerful group.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_08]: I think there's a weird parallel between the ways in which you see kind of sick of fans in sort of right-leaning political positions will end up trying to put on this like big man complex.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_08]: And then the second they realize that it's profitable for them, then they turn into the sick of fan tick.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_08]: The yes man, the lefoo type to whoever's Gaston is running around, able to project their power more expertly over them.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_08]: So I think it's a very weird, yet interesting kind of parallel between the ways in which like body, bodily autonomy is such a thing that he goes for, but is not something that he values in himself.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_08]: It's something that he only views as a currency almost.
- 45:01[SPEAKER_07]: We also have him programming these weird creations, the ex-sensibles.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_07]: It's almost mutant envy at a weird degree.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_07]: Like he's so envious of these characters.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_07]: He's like a little nerdy kid.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_07]: It reminds me of that episode of Black Mirror, where that creepy guy programs, the essence of people into his like private Star Trek universe, where he's the god, like he's giving it, I don't know if you guys have seen that.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_07]: It's giving almost that kind of odd energy.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_07]: He's obsessed with these older X-Men.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_07]: It's crazy to me how this programming works.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know if he just programmed an AI to like view a lot of footage from the X-Men and to give all of the X-centenals personalities as they created facemiles of their powers at the same time.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_07]: Mike, welcome back as Angel X.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_07]: Tell me about Angel's programming.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_04]: He's still a little bit of a dick.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_04]: He doesn't have as many lines as he does in champions, but it is nice to see that he and Bobby still have their brotherly relationship intact.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_07]: The he's programmed to call Bobby both dumb but lovable which is adorable
- 45:59[SPEAKER_16]: And welcome back to Scott as the Ice Man Sentinel.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_16]: Thanks Chad.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_16]: I love coming to guest as Bobby and Claremont scripts because he hates Bobby and he has Bobby just throw it a bunch of slurs and then get thrown around.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_16]: It's, yeah, you can tell the Claremont really does not care for a bunch of these original X men because they show up their nasty as hell and then they get thrown around and meanwhile, real Bobby's often LA and join himself with the champions.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_07]: Well, enjoying himself is a strong phrase, but he doesn't get some racist words and then calls Wolverine a midget.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_07]: That's his programming as he's generating ice right in left.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_16]: Yeah, I mean, the prior time I came back for an X-Men script read was the Thunderbird arc and that was basically just him yelling at Thunderbird and it's like, yeah, there seems to be a consistent through line with this, this portrayal of Bobby Drake.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_07]: It's it's a little rough
- 46:57[SPEAKER_07]: No, we most recently saw havoc in Lorda Dan under the control of air at the red, fighting the X-Men, blowing up property, harming civilians, Colossus, certainly remembers that story.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_07]: But welcome back to first Justin and then Demanda as havoc and Lorna tell us about your Sentinel journey here.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_07]: Come on, catchphrase.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_08]: Havig was, you know, one line, but, um, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
- 47:17[SPEAKER_15]: You know, Portrait as the consistent hothead with the catchphrase and Lorna even as a sentinel still doesn't do a whole lot She throws some metal on storm and then immediately is taken out by Vanshee.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_15]: She's pretty useless Just like she was in the 60s and 70s.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, you could say they had the least amount of data on Lorna to program her brain They're just wasn't a lot back there
- 47:40[SPEAKER_08]: I will say with Havix Robot like they didn't even show him get defeated or anything.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_08]: He was that insignificant to the story and just in general He's shows up.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_11]: He gets in a fight and then next panel he's knocked out I hate that we did not get more of Justin Wilder as Professor X. I love your voice I mean I was passed out most of it, but I was really method acting passing out as Professor Xavier in that that second half of the book
- 48:04[SPEAKER_11]: But eccetinal Xavier is what feels like the ultimate expression of what everybody thinks of Xavier where he's very condescending.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_11]: He thinks he's better than everybody else.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_11]: He's not impressed with any of these new recruits.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_11]: It just felt like, like, tell us how you really feel.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_11]: Like patronizing to Jean, good girl Jean, your little power added to my awesome power.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_11]: I don't even need to use my mind blast.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_11]: I got these fists.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_11]: I can stand, like he is undefeated.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_07]: Good girl, Jean, which is so crazy to me.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_07]: And then we also have the Jean Gray Sentinel, the Marvel girl in the mini dress, who gets just gunned, which is jarring if you didn't realize that this character is Marvel girl as a robot at the time.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think that she's conflicted.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_00]: because I feel like she really wants to be like me and nasty, but she also is super concerned with the professor and what he thinks.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_00]: So for, she's always right by his side and he's like, okay professor, we're almost there.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_00]: We've almost got it and I think that she, it's interesting to see where did that data come from?
- 49:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like is it the viewing of their interactions because is that how they are out in the field?
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: Or that's just deep down inside?
- 49:17[SPEAKER_00]: Do you really just want to prove for self
- 49:19[SPEAKER_00]: to Charles, but I feel like as an entity she wants to be both like standing on her own and also continuously getting the approval of Professor X.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_07]: The mechanical version of whatever her psychic blast is is bizarre as well.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_07]: That's a crazy part of the story for me.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_07]: And then we also have Darrell coming in as a beast here.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_07]: Who is the funniest of the ex-centenals I think with his big giant feet?
- 49:40[SPEAKER_20]: Well, my journey is that laying got a lot of good data and what a big bitch that Hank is.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_20]: It really comes through in the Sentinel forum.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_20]: So I think that it's pretty easy to channel beast because I agree with Scott that Claremont really doesn't like the original X-Men.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_20]: And when you have beast with his flushing feet, especially splashed on the cover, it's just, it's giving a certain message.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_20]: And I tried to embody that.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_20]: And I hope it came through in the recording.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_07]: So for our main team that we have a couple different portrayals of each of the main characters, we get the hero moments where they're bashing the sentinals, and then we get these moments where they are reacting to Gene's sacrifice.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_07]: We've already talked about Cyclops a little bit, but let's open here with Colossus.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_06]: We've just got some beef with Alex.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_06]: Can I beef it up forever?
- 50:27[SPEAKER_06]: At least he thinks so.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_06]: Is that ever followed up on?
- 50:30[SPEAKER_06]: His colossus just ate Alex going forward or I'm just going to wipe the way because he knows he's a Sentinel now.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_07]: They're allies again during the outback era.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_07]: But that's not a relationship I often think of.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_07]: Peotor and Alex.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_07]: I have some thought and analysis.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_07]: And then first fastball special.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you get to pitch the road.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_07]: Isn't that fun?
- 50:47[SPEAKER_07]: Yes, he just wanted to touch Logan's body.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, so first of all, you're thrown in the fastball special.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_07]: You get the moment of detecting Gene, hacking people apart with your claws.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_07]: All right.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_07]: Your teammates initially responding with like, oh my god, you're being so violent before they trust you.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_07]: He's he him talking about like, you're being close to Bizarreca rage, which is something we see with this character later.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_07]: And then his sacrifice of Gene, as he has to step aside when she scolds him.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_07]: So I think there's a lot of meat to work with there.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_18]: Yeah, yeah.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_18]: No, this was a fun one to play as Wolverine.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_18]: I feel like all his all the like fun sort of tricks he's got in his hat come out in this one.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_18]: I like when he sort of relies on his like old animalistic senses and goes against the grain and it usually ends up serving
- 51:34[SPEAKER_18]: Like a good shock value, you know, twist because like you said, you know, I face value everybody thinks he's gone mad, but so it's it's fun to to see him explore that in a and find a way to, you know, be useful that doesn't involve, well, I mean, it definitely didn't involve violence, but like doesn't immediately involve just as claws.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_07]: Claremont's figuring this character out as he writes him and we're seeing him more and more kind of claim his space I think it's a fascinating journey.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_07]: We also get storm back storm who I think I don't know like Jean Gray maybe is her only close female friend And she's so confused during the subtle battle.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_07]: She gets pinned with the claustrophobia and then that moment between she and Jean During this sacrifice
- 52:15[SPEAKER_12]: Yeah, this is one of those instances that Storm doesn't really want to use violence to solve this problem in this fight.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_12]: We see her first ask for just clemency in regards to words and trying to talk to this other team.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_12]: Because as far as she knows, they are their allies, just maybe brainwash at this point.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_12]: And of course, like fighting against somebody who she considers, like again, like he said, a very close friend, even almost a sister.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_12]: at this point.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_12]: She doesn't want to fight her.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_12]: She doesn't want to fight this woman who she cares for deeply, and then at the end that little, it's not even that big and an exchange.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_12]: It's just her saying her name, giving a hug, and tears, as she goes off, as she gets about to give her sacrifice.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_12]: So like it's really touching.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_12]: What's going on with these two?
- 52:54[SPEAKER_07]: The other one crying, of course, being night crawler, a board, the ship.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_07]: He gets this kind of crazy superhero fight battle, but then it turns very serious.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_02]: Hi, this issue is so obviously important in the X-Men universe, but I think it's also reading it through how much Claremont is doing this comparison between the old X-Men and the new X-Men literally figuratively, emotionally, and how he's kind of using these characters to say, aren't these better?
- 53:21[SPEAKER_02]: than those original guys like even when you know night crawlers is going against these to any of the characters kind of interacting they're kind of criticizing where they were and I thought that was kind of interesting and it's also and I might be reading into it too much because I'm coming out from night crawlers point of view but even at the end he's like cyclops no don't don't don't save jean just one of the old X men protect us we don't want to die
- 53:42[SPEAKER_02]: So as emotional as it is, there is a little bit of a, like, I don't know that the new X men have as much of a fondness, like, you know, cyclops is that kind of transitional character through.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_02]: And the others are like, no, no, we're a team now.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_02]: I'm feeling this bond with Colossus and Storm and Wolverine.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_02]: Like, she said she could do it.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_02]: Let's trust her.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_07]: The final member of the team is Banshee, who his character journey under Claremont has been like, I'm too old for this shit, and oh, Moira is so hot, but then he gets kidnapped by sentinels, and here he is, with Sean giving us a very operatic sonic scream today, but I kind of wanted to be country western.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_07]: I just want to be be singing Garth Brooks, whatever he's screaming now on.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_05]: Well, canonically, he went to see a Merrill Haggard concert once in a... Obviously, he got to swip in and save Storm and Gene and everything like that.
- 54:28[SPEAKER_05]: And, you know, it's clear that Claremont doesn't really want to keep Bench.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_05]: He just doesn't know what to do with him.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_05]: You know, there's too many X-Men on the team.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_05]: So, you know, it's giving him that untold for this shit characterization.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_05]: Actually, fits with his intentions.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_05]: It seems.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_05]: Just sort of, yeah, let's write him off.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_05]: Let him go do his own thing.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_05]: Supposedly in his 40s or 50s.
- 54:52[SPEAKER_05]: This is a young man's game.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_05]: Let's give him the opportunity to have his happy ending.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_07]: And then the last character in our initial roster is Peter Corbowe, the mutant ally, the son scientist who luckily knows everything about starships and solar flares.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_08]: I love that he steps in just to be like, yep, I am a scientific opinion who can tell you that this rocket ship is fucked Like there's truly no other reason for him to be in the plot except for just be like, yep science of a companion bad news bad time I love it.
- 55:19[SPEAKER_08]: I love him for doing that
- 55:20[SPEAKER_07]: So I think the three most consequential things we get in the lead story.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_07]: Number one, Gene is a fucking powerhouse and we get to kind of change the tone for women and comics from here forward.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_07]: And this is one of the big moments.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_07]: This is the intro to Marvel's like most infamous story, the Phoenix saga, which is I going to be told over the next several years on my show as we slowly work our way through it.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_07]: We also get the fastball special, which is the ultimate example of the mutant circuit.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_07]: Very simply, the big guy throws the little guy with the claws, and then we get this iconic cover with the two teams running at each other.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_05]: So obviously this is an iconic story leading to the Phoenix saga, but I'm just curious if anybody else has read, there was an issue in the second volume of what if storm became Phoenix.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_05]: And it's actually a phenomenal story, and I highly recommend it to anybody.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_15]: Even though Wolverine was fighting Xavier and got punched in the face by Xavier, he decides to rip apart the gene robot.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_15]: It just is a little suspicious that he's gonna go after the girl robot.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_15]: Instead of any of the other ones, he's like, I need to kill this woman.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_15]: And it made me feel a little itky, but also I guess it's like, it's his crush.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_15]: He's not that there's like some imposter.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_15]: It's like the girl that he likes or whatever.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_15]: but it's in it's still it's still hit me as a little.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah I took it as the crush part but it is interesting that like Storm doesn't get credit for figuring it out before Wolverine, by the way.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah it's interesting.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_12]: Oh yeah shout out to Bonnie Wilford with the coloring on those final few pages like the final few pant panels like everything in this issue amazing but the final coloring on the last few panels where we're seeing Jean kind of absorbing the oh my god
- 57:06[SPEAKER_12]: the solar flare as well as utilizing her powers.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_12]: How you see the color smearing everything.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_12]: I just love these panels so much.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, it's it's really incredible.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_07]: The art on this book is amazing.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_07]: Truly, front to back.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_02]: What was the original idea that before Phoenix and all that other stuff that happened 20 years later, whatever, was she supposed to get this powerful because of the cosmic radiation?
- 57:28[SPEAKER_02]: Was that what we're supposed to believe?
- 57:30[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, it's stay tuned for a Phoenix Force, so it's soon, but we've talked about this on the show.
- 57:34[SPEAKER_07]: The Phoenix is a little like the Holy Spirit.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_07]: It's in all of us, but it's also ultimately Gene's mutant potential.
- 57:40[SPEAKER_07]: It can be read as her unleashing her emotions.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_07]: It can be read as her menstrual cycle.
- 57:45[SPEAKER_07]: It can be read as the cosmic force of creation.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_07]: It can be read as hope summers in her ultimate form.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_07]: There's a lot of ways to view all of this, but I think Claire months original message here was Look at what happens when she's unrestrained, right?
- 57:59[SPEAKER_07]: These these incredible circumstances awaken something amazing within her and then let's give her god powers as a result
- 58:05[SPEAKER_07]: but we'll be talking a lot about this in 2026 on my show.
- 58:08[SPEAKER_16]: Speaking of like, what ifs?
- 58:09[SPEAKER_16]: There's another great, what if?
- 58:11[SPEAKER_16]: It's where the original X-Men get off of Krakawa with no problems and Alex and Polaris are there.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_16]: And this whole bit goes down very differently because Lorna, when they're arguing over who's going to pile up the shuttle, Lorna just says, I control fucking magnets.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_16]: Like, I can just bring the shuttle down and block the radiation and Scott and Gene just go.
- 58:31[SPEAKER_16]: Oh, okay.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_16]: Yeah, that's great.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_16]: And it completely circumvents the whole like crisis in situation.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_16]: And I always recommend people read that one.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_16]: This is a great war in a story, but also just very funny for her just being like, I need everyone here to shut the fuck up.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_16]: I have magnets.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_07]: We've also covered that one on my show, which it's it's a great read.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_07]: And there's always the potential of the Phoenix like destroyed the earth when things go slightly differently.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_07]: Again, we'll be dumping in.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_09]: I'm Jacob Thompson.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_09]: Hopefully we all hugged at Comic Con and we're best friends now.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_09]: Find me at Jacob Raleigh on Instagram for Cars Play and Good Times.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_05]: I'm Sean Beverage.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_05]: You could find me on Instagram at CoolBeverage.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_06]: I'm Mike Doven, hopefully everyone at New York Comic-Con told Chad how nice his hair looks.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_06]: I'm attending via his haircut.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_06]: You can find me cutting her in Salt Lake City Utah, God Shave the Queen.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_20]: I'm Gerald Richard Lawrence, you can find me on Blue Sky and Instagram at Mac on Fleetwood, and you can find my book True North, a complete reference guide and analysis of AlphaFlight's first volume on Barnesenobled.com.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_20]: Please buy a copy.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_20]: I have to pay for one more repairs.
- 59:33[SPEAKER_07]: Thanks, thanks, everybody.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_07]: Anyone else need to depart now?
- 59:36[SPEAKER_07]: Okay, let's jump over to the classic X-Men story, which is crazy.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_07]: Now Claremont and he kind of the the background pages in the classic X-Neditions has been slowly building the mythology of the Hellfire Club But here first of all, we have the very first Hellfire Gala, which is something they pick up
- 59:52[SPEAKER_07]: in recent years and delicious ways, but we have this group of bigoted humans channeling death robot research with this kind of ancient society of old men and their old wives being tended to by hot young women and panties like there's so many things in this like secret society.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_15]: I mean, it obviously gives very old money.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_15]: There's a reason that I think that it is in New York City.
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_15]: And then the one of the only other ones that we've seen has been in London,
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_15]: Like, it gives that sort of people who have the money, wield the power, kind of vibes.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_15]: I've kind of always enjoyed the Hellfire Club in that.
- 1:00:33[SPEAKER_15]: So in this issue, which I know we'll talk about, you see the shift from just like, human rich,
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_15]: white people being like we want to just continue to have power and we will do what we need to have power and then it then shifts to now the mutant elites being like okay so like we're going to now take over and we're going to look out for our best interest and I think Shah Shah may have started off a little more I mean he's always been like a brutal dick but I think he
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_15]: tried to at first be like, okay, we're gonna get what we want.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_15]: But then I think he just got to wrapped up in all of the machinations and evil plottingness of it all.
- 1:01:14[SPEAKER_07]: There's something about all these evil people plotting the demise of a species, right?
- 1:01:19[SPEAKER_07]: Like the X-Men are captured on a satellite while they're having a party on earth with like fancy gowns and like masquerade masks and powdered wigs.
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_07]: It's fucking so disturbing.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_07]: At least I know you have thoughts here.
- 1:01:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just like love to see how like right from the get we see how like they have this front that they have everything together that they're so powerful that they've like they have this network and yet there's just so much internal chaos constantly in the Hellfire club.
- 1:01:52[SPEAKER_00]: and like no one is ever really like fully honest with each other and I think that this particular issue really does a good job of kind of showing like that network that's so intertwined but also like nobody can trust anybody and everybody thinks they're the most powerful and like really seeing how valuable the women of the Hellfire Club are but how they are can continuously like being put in their place so to speak by the men like the men are like
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_00]: Are you sure you are because you really heavily relying on these women to tell you what's happening or get you from point A to point B You're keeping your shit in line and so just an interesting dynamic that's like a mix of like the illusion of what they want you to believe they are compared to what they actually are
- 1:02:39[SPEAKER_07]: It's becoming annual tradition to go to the uncanny experience each year and watch the women of the Hellfire Club take over the men at the end of the night.
- 1:02:48[SPEAKER_15]: When you take power by force, it's then constantly trying to maintain that power through force.
- 1:02:55[SPEAKER_15]: And so when someone comes in with bigger power, aka the mutants, like they're then going to take those people out.
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_15]: And so then they then have to fight to maintain power, which, you know, when we get into them, you like the mid 80s, we then see that the
- 1:03:09[SPEAKER_15]: you know, kind of take out the Hellfire Club again.
- 1:03:11[SPEAKER_11]: I think it's interesting in retrospective see how this scene has been retconned years later with what actually happened to Loris and how Emma and she have teamed up to give her sex.
- 1:03:25[SPEAKER_07]: So tell everybody the story really quickly.
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_07]: This is a critical era story where we learn what really happened to Loris Shantel.
- 1:03:32[SPEAKER_07]: Do you want to talk about it?
- 1:03:33[SPEAKER_11]: Sure, yes.
- 1:03:33[SPEAKER_11]: So we've just seen her killed here, but really that was a charad put on by Emma to grant Loris a way out of the oppression and the forced relationship that she is in with Shaw.
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_07]: There's a domestic violence situation.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 1:03:51[SPEAKER_07]: Two of them very clearly.
- 1:03:52[SPEAKER_11]: there's there's something to do with the kingpin helping Emma get lurtus out and that puts Emma in debt, but it just really connected to what Alicia was saying about where the real power lies, how people are backstabbing each other and doing what they want for their best interest, but the women playing together and playing for their own survival.
- 1:04:14[SPEAKER_11]: which I thought like even Emma putting her own safety on the line by now being indebted to Kingpin to protect her friend from a terrible situation.
- 1:04:22[SPEAKER_11]: I thought it was really interesting.
- 1:04:23[SPEAKER_02]: This is going to sound really stupid now because my comments really juvenile and whatever.
- 1:04:28[SPEAKER_02]: So after all this very intelligent discussion about power dynamics and what they mean.
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_02]: I like that it's like kings and queens because from a very like giddy point of view, reading it in, I love a good gimmick and a theme, and so the fact that they were set up as colors and kings and queens, I thought it was really like a fun kind of accessible thing when they were also in costumes and all that kind of fun stuff, and at any moment it could turn into a sex party.
- 1:04:53[SPEAKER_02]: So for me, the Hellfire Club.
- 1:04:54[SPEAKER_15]: same sex party, right?
- 1:04:56[SPEAKER_02]: There's something about this very appealing from a very juvenile point of view and a bit like it's you know from a very simple kind of storytelling point of thing.
- 1:05:03[SPEAKER_02]: And it gives you this ability to play with all of this intrigue back and forth.
- 1:05:07[SPEAKER_02]: But in this very kind of clear like there's there's the black and white or let's introduce red now as a color and their king's queens and bishops and they're all fighting for like almost like a chess match.
- 1:05:17[SPEAKER_02]: you're seeing in this very intriguing way.
- 1:05:19[SPEAKER_02]: So I feel like from a cheeseball point of view, it's a very appealing package wrapped up in a lot of mystery.
- 1:05:26[SPEAKER_12]: It makes you feel better.
- 1:05:27[SPEAKER_12]: I was going to comment on how the Hellfire Club in real life kind of defined what the Hellfire Club is in the X-Men universe.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_12]: from the so back in the day way back in the day they used to have these meetings among like high society people it's usually those who would get freaky sometimes in like actual usual events but also like we need somewhere to get freaky or in different settings like a more private setting.
- 1:05:52[SPEAKER_12]: where you would have a mix of both men and women which was unheard of usually at that time, just because it's like this is kind of taboo.
- 1:06:00[SPEAKER_12]: It was all taboo, everything about it was taboo.
- 1:06:02[SPEAKER_12]: Even the little, what's the word?
- 1:06:05[SPEAKER_12]: Tonting of religion and everything of religious practices and all that.
- 1:06:10[SPEAKER_12]: And then they defined it into the X-Men stories as something that was the note.
- 1:06:14[SPEAKER_12]: This goes deep, this runs deep.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_12]: Which of course it might have, because who knows what kind of backdoor deals they were making in those clubs as well back in the day.
- 1:06:21[SPEAKER_07]: The women here are the most powerful.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_07]: Lord us is crazy powerful.
- 1:06:25[SPEAKER_07]: Emma is crazy powerful.
- 1:06:26[SPEAKER_07]: Tessa is crazy powerful, but they have to put on pretty dresses and corsets and boots and wips and you know, uh, bras and panties in order to like have a seat at the table with the men.
- 1:06:36[SPEAKER_07]: You've got to be hot and powerful and subservient all at the same time.
- 1:06:40[SPEAKER_07]: There's obviously some violence against male characters in these issues as well, but we started with Gene Gray's robot getting gutted and then we have Lordest dying on the page with the spear.
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_07]: We also have Paris civils shot by Ned Buckman.
- 1:06:55[SPEAKER_07]: So there's some odd kind of violence against women rhetoric here and then they have to still kind of bolster themselves up behind the power that is shot in order to take control.
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_07]: So there's some interesting comments about gender
- 1:07:06[SPEAKER_07]: But let me toss a few things your way as we're kind of exploring these characters.
- 1:07:10[SPEAKER_07]: Lord of Shantel is not a character we see again for many, many years.
- 1:07:13[SPEAKER_07]: Very, very tragic, shaw's violence and the way this character is treated here.
- 1:07:18[SPEAKER_07]: But I love that we later get the story that it's a ruse.
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_07]: But to make things light for a moment, Haram, I just have one word for you, and that is, blah.
- 1:07:32[SPEAKER_12]: I don't, I don't know if anybody's ever seen these TikToks.
- 1:07:34[SPEAKER_12]: So there's this dude, like, does a lot of TikToks, so his cat is kitten.
- 1:07:38[SPEAKER_12]: And then every time that, like, he changes his kitten into a doll that throw him, he just says, plus, and it's just the funniest sound in the world.
- 1:07:45[SPEAKER_07]: It's so funny to me.
- 1:07:47[SPEAKER_12]: So it's one thing.
- 1:07:48[SPEAKER_12]: She'll has a lot of women on his roster.
- 1:07:52[SPEAKER_12]: It seems like, which, of course, it's very much a devious kind of thing with him.
- 1:07:56[SPEAKER_12]: It's a show of power.
- 1:07:58[SPEAKER_12]: And you can see that there's some sort of love that Lord is may have for him, but like an understanding the story later on that it was also
- 1:08:07[SPEAKER_12]: stemming from being in this abusive relationship and trying to get out of it and all the machinations that came down to getting out of it in this event.
- 1:08:15[SPEAKER_12]: It is interesting to see us go through see her interactions with him, her back and forth with him, and then come to what we first think is the end of her life until later on.
- 1:08:26[SPEAKER_08]: I'll talk about Sebastian first and then I kind of want to draw a thread through all of the different things the Hellfire Club we've been talking about.
- 1:08:33[SPEAKER_08]: I think I know last time we, I was here and we talked about Shaw, I had mentioned that.
- 1:08:37[SPEAKER_08]: I think that he is someone who is coming into the Hellfire Club late, who is not quite almost ever really willing to go fully into the kind of...
- 1:08:46[SPEAKER_08]: theatrics failfire club and I think I was mistaken with that.
- 1:08:48[SPEAKER_08]: I think he goes along with the theatrics in all but physical dress to a certain point.
- 1:08:53[SPEAKER_08]: Obviously he does dress to like much more akin to everyone else but then he also kind of pulls in and out of it at times.
- 1:09:00[SPEAKER_08]: But I think a lot of it stems from the fact that like you said he's or like you've been talking about this is a very theatrical group.
- 1:09:06[SPEAKER_08]: This is a very this is a group that is appearances are almost the end all
- 1:09:13[SPEAKER_08]: And I think one thing that is interesting with the history, with the, the atrics of it is Claremont is pulling from this real world idea of sort of this, this rich group influencing from behind the scenes, I think he's very cognizant to not pull from certain stereotypes that you can address.
- 1:09:28[SPEAKER_08]: But these concepts, I think he does do a good job up front of a setting like, this is a money-based group.
- 1:09:34[SPEAKER_08]: And by doing so, I think that is what sets the culture of the Hellfire Club from the start is it is all, a group of these rich people
- 1:09:43[SPEAKER_08]: of a master certain amount of money it's because it's obviously it's the wording tins it's the shaws it's the examiers it's these not just sort of your average one of the mill like i've got a million bucks here there it's these multi-billion dollar corporation running families um that are all here
- 1:09:58[SPEAKER_08]: And so I think it's this, you get the culture of the health of our club stemming from the fact that in order to amass that much wealth, you do have to have a certain amount of averse, a certain amount of, of insulation from, I guess, empathy, so to speak.
- 1:10:10[SPEAKER_08]: And so you get this group of them all coming together who are competitive.
- 1:10:14[SPEAKER_08]: It is a chess match.
- 1:10:15[SPEAKER_08]: It is even in a group where they're all trying to work together.
- 1:10:18[SPEAKER_08]: They are constantly facing the fact that they are going head to head against each other for their own personal game.
- 1:10:24[SPEAKER_08]: It's all selfish people all working together under a faux banner of we can unite and that's why I think Ned Buckman has gone on this limb and has has changed the nature of the central program entirely because shock goes on to say like I thought this I thought we were collecting mutants I thought we were extracting their DNA I'm fine with exploiting them in this way, but a genocide and eradication because I am a member that's where I'm drawing my line there.
- 1:10:49[SPEAKER_08]: I don't I think it's a very timely revelation of this kind of situation where it's like it does not matter if we are separate enough from the situation if I am not affected by the situation then therefore I don't mind funding it I don't mind throwing my hat in the ring with these other rich folks who are willing to go that far.
- 1:11:05[SPEAKER_07]: which is the story we see for Shaw on Cracoa as well.
- 1:11:07[SPEAKER_07]: He has a position in the ruling government but he pushes for more and more power and makes deals with the others and ends up all toppling all over again.
- 1:11:15[SPEAKER_07]: It's a fascinating journey for him.
- 1:11:16[SPEAKER_08]: It's all self-serving.
- 1:11:18[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, it's all that that drive for more that I think is kind of what unites all of the Hellfire club members.
- 1:11:23[SPEAKER_08]: Even Emma in a certain way, even if it's coming from a
- 1:11:26[SPEAKER_08]: A more understandable place of, as I've been beaten down in life, I've come from this family that has, has treated me so poorly.
- 1:11:31[SPEAKER_08]: I've had my relationship with my father, but at the end of the day at this point in her life, especially she is still striving for more and more and more and the health care club is a place where you can say, sure we're working together, but in reality, like you said, it's all that backstabbing.
- 1:11:44[SPEAKER_08]: And I think that also illustrates the ways in which Shah's misogyny is a much more classic misogyny than Stephen Lings.
- 1:11:52[SPEAKER_08]: I know I talked about earlier about the psychophantic self-serving flavor of toxic masculinity that is sort of always looking for the kind of guide to rally around.
- 1:12:04[SPEAKER_08]: And I think Shaw is kind of the inverse.
- 1:12:06[SPEAKER_08]: He's more of your alpha male podcast or type, where he is someone who is willing to use everyone around him as tools.
- 1:12:14[SPEAKER_08]: And I think that informed his misogyny.
- 1:12:16[SPEAKER_08]: I think it's very clear throughout the way he talks about the women in the issue that he doesn't view them as people.
- 1:12:22[SPEAKER_08]: He'd views them fundamentally as tools of his,
- 1:12:25[SPEAKER_08]: if his toy box essentially to dismantle the Hellfire Club and to put himself in a position.
- 1:12:31[SPEAKER_08]: And because of that, it leads to his own downfall.
- 1:12:33[SPEAKER_08]: It leads to Lord as quote unquote dying.
- 1:12:35[SPEAKER_08]: Because he takes three or four times that the classic backup story, the women will come to him and say, I know for a fact, Ned Buckman is coming after you.
- 1:12:46[SPEAKER_08]: It's very clear as day.
- 1:12:47[SPEAKER_08]: We have mutant mental powers that can scan his intentions and tell you exactly that he is lying to your face.
- 1:12:53[SPEAKER_08]: and yet he would rather trust the man speaking to him face-to-face than the three women that he's built his entire power base around that he is trying to to essentially use their power to rally behind him yet won't give them the time of day when they are correct.
- 1:13:08[SPEAKER_07]: The other interesting piece that we're not mentioning, and we'll save the rest of our health-ironed club thoughts for future health-iron club episodes, I think, but we're talking about power being a part of this, but it's also legacy.
- 1:13:19[SPEAKER_07]: Like, you're only invited in if your rich parents or your rich grandparents or your rich ancestors were part of the club in the first place, which is its own kind of interesting thing.
- 1:13:28[SPEAKER_07]: So you have to prove your power along the way.
- 1:13:31[SPEAKER_07]: Sean, what are your thoughts on the journey of Ned Buckman?
- 1:13:34[SPEAKER_18]: It's just very superficial.
- 1:13:36[SPEAKER_18]: It's just very fun.
- 1:13:37[SPEAKER_18]: I mean, I think somebody wrote it in the chat that they wanted T-shirt that says old top on it.
- 1:13:42[SPEAKER_18]: Thank you.
- 1:13:42[SPEAKER_18]: He's got to like a mesmerizing way of talking.
- 1:13:44[SPEAKER_18]: That's about the only positive quality act that I could gather from him.
- 1:13:48[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, he's giving very nepo, baby, but then he has to turn the gun on everyone else and himself.
- 1:13:52[SPEAKER_07]: It's a crazy journey for this guy.
- 1:13:54[SPEAKER_07]: I'm shocked how little backstory we have for him.
- 1:13:57[SPEAKER_18]: Yeah, but again, this is I said this with Wolverine in the last one too, especially exciting when you see like powers or mutinabilities that are where the the brain is at the the forefront of like the decision making, you know, versus the the brawn and like, oh, I'm just going to use all my superpowers and not like it is a pretty clever way to have him turn against everyone and it's a pretty special moment.
- 1:14:23[SPEAKER_18]: Yeah, you can
- 1:14:23[SPEAKER_18]: To find me on most social media just as my name, Sean Rohani, it's mostly just me posting some voiceover spots and announcements and occasional travel stuff, but I'm always happy to chat on any of the stuff.
- 1:14:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that what was interesting for me in this particular issue for Emma was like, she's hidden in the background for the beginning of it, and so we get to kind of see like how she works in like a manipulative way.
- 1:14:51[SPEAKER_00]: even though like Shaw is instructing her, I do feel that there's a lot of like her pulling strings or like infusing her own M&s into the the conversation and really like seeing how Shaw is relying on her as like a secret weapon is cool to like think about where she's gonna go from there and how much she knows that he needs her is interesting.
- 1:15:14[SPEAKER_00]: I would have like to see her like use a little bit more have a little bit
- 1:15:18[SPEAKER_00]: more of a fight against a Sentinel instead of just being like a Sentinel's there.
- 1:15:22[SPEAKER_00]: Emma is hopeless.
- 1:15:23[SPEAKER_00]: Sad.
- 1:15:24[SPEAKER_11]: I don't know.
- 1:15:25[SPEAKER_11]: Mine powers can't affect robots.
- 1:15:26[SPEAKER_11]: Boom.
- 1:15:27[SPEAKER_00]: You know, but like, I just, I didn't like it.
- 1:15:30[SPEAKER_11]: I don't like her to look weak.
- 1:15:31[SPEAKER_11]: Unless you're Xavier, and you can, you can forcefully throw mine blasts.
- 1:15:35[SPEAKER_11]: So people are far superior to Elbathe.
- 1:15:37[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I mean, I love I love Emma so just anything Emma does I'm here for I'm Alicia Wilder you can find me if you want to follow my cosplay and dance life journey on Instagram and TikTok at Wilder moves and I am also one half of the x-wife podcast
- 1:15:54[SPEAKER_10]: We talked about comics in their X-Men comics, and we talked to people and a lot of them are here.
- 1:16:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's fun stuff.
- 1:16:01[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, check it out.
- 1:16:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's fun time, and that's the X-Wife podcast, T-H-E-X-W-I-F-E as an X-Men, not from the wife.
- 1:16:09[SPEAKER_07]: A demand I'd love to hear your thoughts on Paris Civil before you go.
- 1:16:13[SPEAKER_15]: Harris revealed with her one line of like, don't shoot me, Ned.
- 1:16:17[SPEAKER_15]: Obviously, she's nothing more than an accessory in this.
- 1:16:23[SPEAKER_15]: She's sort of a token of power where a king needs his queen.
- 1:16:28[SPEAKER_15]: So she's just kind of there.
- 1:16:31[SPEAKER_15]: Does she, is she in another book?
- 1:16:33[SPEAKER_15]: Like, was she in the previous book at all?
- 1:16:35[SPEAKER_15]: Did she get
- 1:16:35[SPEAKER_07]: So this is one, this is one hit wonder and I have a huge pair of civil story that I want to write actually.
- 1:16:40[SPEAKER_15]: So I mean, it would be interesting to see like who she is, why she's here, but at the same time she's probably a cunt.
- 1:16:48[SPEAKER_15]: So get rid of her.
- 1:16:49[SPEAKER_15]: But.
- 1:16:50[SPEAKER_15]: But I will say when he was talking about Shaw and how obviously then the women banded together because they're all being held under him So again everyone fighting for power the women who we know just through research that women are much more Collaborative in in their thoughts So obviously that's why they kind of all bandaged together, but the other thing so test side this is
- 1:17:13[SPEAKER_15]: one of her kind of first things I appreciate even though I was trying to give her a robotic tone can't help but give her a little bit of sass and she's like I don't have any more information y'all go fuck yourself.
- 1:17:24[SPEAKER_15]: I don't know what you want me to analyze.
- 1:17:25[SPEAKER_15]: There's nothing to analyze.
- 1:17:27[SPEAKER_15]: I'm doing a martini.
- 1:17:28[SPEAKER_15]: You can sign me across most social media at demand of martini.
- 1:17:32[SPEAKER_15]: When this comes out we will be in the final episodes of To Me My X Treats.
- 1:17:39[SPEAKER_15]: My cooking show where I bake little treats based on Xen characters using the Luciano Vecchio card set because the cards that will be done I have done I will have done all 54 cards and that is it and it's ending because it is a very expensive show to produce
- 1:17:54[SPEAKER_07]: Stay tuned for next year where a Chad will be tossing Marvel's worst characters at Demanda and she has promised to make one treat every week based on characters like Poood the evil version of DOOP That is a lie Chad is a jerk, but I love him at any time he asks me to be on the show.
- 1:18:09[SPEAKER_15]: I tried to make it a priority to do so
- 1:18:11[SPEAKER_12]: Alright, so hi there everybody.
- 1:18:13[SPEAKER_12]: Once more, I am here in Skarim Cosplay.
- 1:18:16[SPEAKER_12]: You guys can usually find me on IG or on TikTok.
- 1:18:19[SPEAKER_12]: Really depends on where you want to look for yet.
- 1:18:21[SPEAKER_12]: I don't know where I am.
- 1:18:22[SPEAKER_12]: These days, when is this coming out again?
- 1:18:24[SPEAKER_12]: Early December.
- 1:18:25[SPEAKER_12]: Early December.
- 1:18:26[SPEAKER_12]: Where am I gonna be?
- 1:18:27[SPEAKER_12]: Oh, you're definitely gonna catch me still crying over wicked for good by the time that early December rolls around.
- 1:18:33[SPEAKER_12]: and you'll definitely find me with more than likely a new alphabet outfit to wear for the event too.
- 1:18:40[SPEAKER_12]: So I'll be to see you all.
- 1:18:43[SPEAKER_08]: My name is Chapman Blake, and like I've been teasing on the past few episodes here, I am officially starting an X-Men podcast myself.
- 1:18:52[SPEAKER_08]: It is going to be Subtextment Podcast, that is SUB, T-E-X-T-M-E-N podcast.
- 1:19:00[SPEAKER_08]: Our first episode is going to be up in January, it is going to feature some lovely friends from this show here, a great walk on the lane, it'll be with Chad, Seth, Scottie and Kevin, and we are going to be discussing the 1979 Marvel Superheroes book from the Marvel novel series.
- 1:19:19[SPEAKER_08]: Catch me on socials at all those things as well as my name.
- 1:19:22[SPEAKER_08]: You can catch me on Discord, Janels, I lurk in all of those.
- 1:19:25[SPEAKER_08]: I'm always reading and rarely posting.
- 1:19:27[SPEAKER_08]: And yeah, I'll see you all a see you all next time.
- 1:19:29[SPEAKER_08]: So a lot of what I wanted to say everybody covered so my thoughts on that are Ditto.
- 1:19:35[SPEAKER_08]: I guess kind of tying to what Chapman said with Stephen Lang and how it kind of tied to the story with the hate.
- 1:19:43[SPEAKER_08]: group or hateful person kind of tied with the rich in powerful is very timely and very relevant.
- 1:19:49[SPEAKER_08]: So to see that in a 1980's story still, you know, resonate, it's kind of a scary thought.
- 1:19:55[SPEAKER_08]: And this story, I feel like this walked so game of thrones could run.
- 1:20:00[SPEAKER_08]: It kind of had that feel to it, reading back.
- 1:20:02[SPEAKER_08]: It's very red wedding.
- 1:20:03[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
- 1:20:04[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, very that.
- 1:20:05[SPEAKER_08]: I'm just in cosmic and I can be found at J under score cosmic that's cosmic with a K on mostly Instagram on Patreon and sometimes on TikTok, but I'm a little out of touch there not going to lie and I do sometimes utilize blue skies well same thing no underscore.
- 1:20:20[SPEAKER_08]: I will still be posting cosplay content, toy, stuff, as well as the occasional lifting video.
- 1:20:26[SPEAKER_16]: I have no additional thoughts or comments on the Hellfire Club, they're messy, we love mess as it will take part in this.
- 1:20:32[SPEAKER_16]: Scott, Scott Free, you could find me most social media platforms by that.
- 1:20:36[SPEAKER_16]: I have a podcast as well, the Clone Conspiracy, where we talk about Ben Riley, Spider-Man's Clone, and I try to explain the Clone saga.
- 1:20:44[SPEAKER_16]: It's fun, this is out in January,
- 1:20:48[SPEAKER_16]: or Comic Con, and it was either great to see you, or I am so sorry.
- 1:20:52[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I appreciate just being asked back to step into Angel's Wayne's, I'm always in awe how talented all of the other guests are, and always feel a little bit bad that I don't have the the voice chops to match you all, but it's it's always great to be in your presence and hang out with you all.
- 1:21:10[SPEAKER_04]: You can find me at illustrator.micron Instagram.
- 1:21:13[SPEAKER_04]: I am an
- 1:21:14[SPEAKER_04]: sir, but I am on there and any news or updates I have generally posted there.
- 1:21:20[SPEAKER_04]: Thanks so much.
- 1:21:21[SPEAKER_02]: I'm Kevin Canary and as always, this is the biggest treat and especially oversized, super sized, 100-issue kind of treat with all the guest stars.
- 1:21:29[SPEAKER_02]: You'll probably see me at wondercon.
- 1:21:31[SPEAKER_02]: I guess would be the next convention coming up.
- 1:21:33[SPEAKER_02]: I'm very excited to go back to that.
- 1:21:35[SPEAKER_02]: On podcast wise, hopefully I'll be on some future script readings here in Grey Mocking Lane.
- 1:21:39[SPEAKER_07]: Okay, last thing I'm trying to understand, I keep my own social media priming because I got
- 1:21:42[SPEAKER_07]: It is, but you can follow the show at Grimmelk and Under Score Lane on Instagram most prominently.
- 1:21:46[SPEAKER_07]: So grateful for all of you in this community.
- 1:21:48[SPEAKER_07]: Thank you for your ongoing support in friendship.
- 1:21:50[SPEAKER_07]: We will see you all back here next time on the Grimmelk and Lane Show.
- 1:21:53[SPEAKER_07]: And now stay tuned for some thoughts on fascism.
- 1:21:58[SPEAKER_07]: As a special guest and I talk about a red skull story, and it's modern applications.
- 1:22:03[SPEAKER_07]: Alfreda Nonsia Markowska was born in 1926 into a Polish Roma family, a part of a traditional traveling to border that moved from village to village in search of work and safety.
- 1:22:16[SPEAKER_07]: Life was already precarious for Roma people in interwar Poland, Mark by discrimination and poverty.
- 1:22:21[SPEAKER_07]: But when the Nazis invaded, their persecution took a horrifying turn.
- 1:22:25[SPEAKER_07]: In 1941, when Alfredo was just 15, her entire taboo, between 60 and 85 of her relatives, were massacred in a single day.
- 1:22:33[SPEAKER_07]: She survived because she had left that morning to go by food, and a local villager had warned her not to return.
- 1:22:39[SPEAKER_07]: Standing alone amid the devastation, Alfredo faced a world that had not only destroyed her family, but also declared her entire
- 1:22:47[SPEAKER_07]: And boy does that not sound like a criss-claremont character orage in story.
- 1:22:52[SPEAKER_07]: Despite her grief and the constant danger, Alfredo chose to fight back in the only way she could by saving lives.
- 1:22:57[SPEAKER_07]: As the Nazi campaign against Jews and Roma intensified, she began to rescue children from execution sites, round-ups, transports.
- 1:23:04[SPEAKER_07]: She would slip into areas where massacres had taken place, searching for any child who might have hidden or been left behind.
- 1:23:09[SPEAKER_07]: Sometimes she smuggled them out under her own clothing, or insects of feathers, risking immediate death, if discovered.
- 1:23:16[SPEAKER_07]: Other times she forged documents and worked permits to create false identities, placing the children of sympathetic families or hiding them herself.
- 1:23:22[SPEAKER_07]: It was dangerous for relentless work carried out under the eyes of the guards and the collaborators.
- 1:23:26[SPEAKER_07]: Over the course of the war, Alfreda saved at least 50 children, both Jewish and Roma from certain death.
- 1:23:31[SPEAKER_07]: Each rescue required immense courage, resourcefulness and quick thinking.
- 1:23:36[SPEAKER_07]: There were nights when she barely slept, moving from one hiding place to another, comforting terrified children while planning their escape.
- 1:23:42[SPEAKER_07]: even as she faced starvation, disease, and the ever-present threats of capture of Raider refused to turn away.
- 1:23:48[SPEAKER_07]: Her actions were not only acts of defiance against the Nazi regime but also a declaration of her own humanity.
- 1:23:53[SPEAKER_07]: She would not allow the world to erase her people or her compassion.
- 1:23:56[SPEAKER_07]: After the war, she lived quietly in Poland, her heroic actions largely unrecognized for decades.
- 1:24:01[SPEAKER_07]: But in 2006, when she was 80 years old, the Polish government finally awarded her the Commander's Cross with the star of the Order of Poloni Orastituta.
- 1:24:09[SPEAKER_07]: honoring her extraordinary courage.
- 1:24:11[SPEAKER_07]: By then, she was known as the Romani Irina Sendler, a title reflecting the scale and moral power of her work.
- 1:24:19[SPEAKER_07]: All right, completely tangential story.
- 1:24:21[SPEAKER_07]: We're going to jump over the crazy world of Avengers 385 and Captain America.
- 1:24:26[SPEAKER_07]: 4441, there's a brief crossover called Taking Aim, and a bizarre new Golden Jump suit with a blue belt and cross-sour designs will under his chest.
- 1:24:34[SPEAKER_07]: The Red Skull captured Iván Petrovich, my listeners of the show will recognize him from our recent Champions Script readings.
- 1:24:41[SPEAKER_07]: On the cover of 386, the Red Skull is massive and holds the defiant Black Widow in the palm of his hand, and he has so, so, so, so much spit in his mouth, it's disgusting.
- 1:24:50[SPEAKER_07]: And in the Canadian Wilderness,
- 1:24:53[SPEAKER_07]: something very valuable stolen from me Avengers, before you die in this cold and lonely place, I command you to tell me where it is.
- 1:24:59[SPEAKER_07]: He uses a hologram to appear as Captain America, then knocks out Hercules himself.
- 1:25:04[SPEAKER_07]: He punches Crystal in the face.
- 1:25:06[SPEAKER_07]: He turns out to be faster than quick silver.
- 1:25:08[SPEAKER_07]: Or
- 1:25:08[SPEAKER_07]: All things are possible for the Master Ace Avenger to think I am forced to touch your degenerate flesh, gypsy, the Reich should have destroyed all your disgusting race when it had the chance.
- 1:25:17[SPEAKER_07]: Still, there are some satisfaction, in fact, that the son of Magneeto dies at my hand.
- 1:25:21[SPEAKER_07]: The Red School bats the Black Widow aside and then says,
- 1:25:24[SPEAKER_07]: What sort of man are you, Gypsy?
- 1:25:26[SPEAKER_07]: That needs a woman to come to his rescue.
- 1:25:28[SPEAKER_07]: Perhaps you are not a true man after all, a mutant?
- 1:25:31[SPEAKER_07]: Think of that as a crush your windpipe maximum.
- 1:25:33[SPEAKER_07]: And imagine your father's tears at the passing of his ineffectual son.
- 1:25:38[SPEAKER_07]: This would be a good revenge moment for the Red Skull, who got put in isolated isolation or solitary confinement by Magneto that one time, if you remember.
- 1:25:46[SPEAKER_07]: Black Widow attacks the new.
- 1:25:47[SPEAKER_07]: year time ended 50 years ago, no one's afraid of you anymore, then this is an era of fools Russian for the skull is fear, and then it is of a woman in this body, I am younger than you!
- 1:25:57[SPEAKER_07]: Also, woman, the skull has no feelings, and then she shorts out as weapons and he escapes.
- 1:26:04[SPEAKER_07]: The red skull comes back next to Shiningu, tech suit, look kind of looking like strife with a red skull on the top.
- 1:26:09[SPEAKER_07]: We cross over to Cap and the red skulls glowing with power, he fights
- 1:26:14[SPEAKER_07]: who turns out to be the super-adaptoy to go back to the very old trial of the super-adaptoy done by show.
- 1:26:19[SPEAKER_07]: The Red School finally sneaks into battle in Avengers 388 just long enough to steal a serum that superior has developed.
- 1:26:25[SPEAKER_07]: One that will stabilize all of the problems of the decay in his body, capsic.
- 1:26:31[SPEAKER_07]: If you guys recall Captain America is kind of withering away and needs a battle armor to survive.
- 1:26:35[SPEAKER_07]: So battle armor Red School twice and then there's hints of the
- 1:26:38[SPEAKER_07]: Cosmic Cube here, stay tuned.
- 1:26:40[SPEAKER_07]: Let me welcome one of my favorite people on the planet, the incredible Justin Wilder, Justin, are you a red skull fan?
- 1:26:47[SPEAKER_11]: A red skull fan?
- 1:26:48[SPEAKER_11]: I don't know that I'd say that, but I love a good villain and I feel like he is the twerliest mustache guy with a bald, creepy face.
- 1:26:58[SPEAKER_11]: He's just got nothing on his face, but he is all mechanisms and he's a good bad guy, but I would never call myself a red skull fan.
- 1:27:08[SPEAKER_07]: So, I know you and I've talked to Motoc, certainly before, and other characters.
- 1:27:12[SPEAKER_07]: Now, is this a story you'd ever read before the taking aim crossover?
- 1:27:15[SPEAKER_11]: No.
- 1:27:16[SPEAKER_11]: No, it's really interesting combination.
- 1:27:18[SPEAKER_11]: I read the full thing, you know, quick summary of three issues.
- 1:27:21[SPEAKER_11]: I think it all takes place a little with the setup and the crossover between the two titles, which I can even this era of comics.
- 1:27:28[SPEAKER_11]: I don't really know that well for Avengers and Captain America.
- 1:27:32[SPEAKER_11]: Never was on my radar.
- 1:27:33[SPEAKER_11]: but to have this be kind of like a relatively deep cut into some well-known villains and some infighting within them as red skulls trying to consolidate power and really just take over through everyone both as himself and his clone to new Steve Rogers body and taking over the adaptoids who are replacing all these other power sets and these ability and the chaos of the cube and the radiation just bringing life to fantasy
- 1:28:03[SPEAKER_07]: The Red School has a weird, long story with the cosmic cube, obviously.
- 1:28:07[SPEAKER_07]: And the reason I like to pair major X-Men fans, although I know you'd read anything, because you love homework, like I do.
- 1:28:14[SPEAKER_07]: But although I like to pair a major X-Men fans with X-Men tangential stories, so we have the quick silver fight here where the Red School's trying to prove he has the bigger penis, but there's some great stuff with Crystal and other characters in this.
- 1:28:27[SPEAKER_07]: And if I can look at hercules, this is like anti-Bred School.
- 1:28:31[SPEAKER_11]: Oh, I just, you say Redskill has the bigger penis and like, it's probably red and weird and I just don't want to think about that.
- 1:28:38[SPEAKER_07]: Well, in this body, he has a red skull, but he's living in the clone body of Steve Rogers.
- 1:28:44[SPEAKER_07]: So, he has Steve Rogers penis.
- 1:28:46[SPEAKER_07]: He also has America's ass.
- 1:28:48[SPEAKER_11]: There you go.
- 1:28:50[SPEAKER_11]: That was part of kind of threaded throughout the story, and especially as an Xman fan coming to this never having read it, and most of my information about the Avengers and their history being informed by the MCU, the differences in details of the cosmic cube being created by
- 1:29:06[SPEAKER_11]: the aim super agents, the bright guardian and black widow having formerly been married.
- 1:29:11[SPEAKER_11]: And there was like different elements that I as a casual Avengers reader would never have picked up on the minutia of, but now seeing in context of the history that I know is really interesting.
- 1:29:23[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, and I mean, for X-Men fans from the 90s, if you've read like the Avengers Blood Ties, crossover where like, you know, Crystal has the daughter Luna who gets kidnapped by the accolades and there's all this.
- 1:29:37[SPEAKER_07]: So this is that error for quicks and over.
- 1:29:38[SPEAKER_07]: It's a really fun run on the books.
- 1:29:40[SPEAKER_11]: And those are probably the only issues that I previously read was because it directly tied into the story and I love blood ties.
- 1:29:46[SPEAKER_11]: I've heard that several times, but to get the further stories and to know from like a history of like what's going on between crystal and quick silver and what's going in their faces and just, you know, some of the subtext was really interesting to see 90s.
- 1:29:59[SPEAKER_07]: 90s Avengers is pretty fun like in the air where they're wearing the jackets black night is dating crystal who is also the ex or the estranged wife of a quick silver but Cersei is like fucking black night on the side and there's so much cattiness between crystal and Cersei like it's a really delicious run.
- 1:30:17[SPEAKER_07]: Herkali is some crazy stuff in there.
- 1:30:19[SPEAKER_07]: It's good stuff.
- 1:30:20[SPEAKER_11]: It's, it's Avengers does X-Men.
- 1:30:22[SPEAKER_11]: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:30:23[SPEAKER_11]: We're doing.
- 1:30:23[SPEAKER_11]: We're all living in a mansion being crazy.
- 1:30:26[SPEAKER_11]: Hook it up.
- 1:30:26[SPEAKER_07]: It's a real dope opera.
- 1:30:28[SPEAKER_07]: Yes.
- 1:30:29[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, now I open the story in my anecdote.
- 1:30:31[SPEAKER_07]: I try to choose stories that are hopeful that choose, you know, there's consequences and resonance, but they're real stories from history.
- 1:30:38[SPEAKER_07]: So because of the racism toward Quicksilver, in this particular issue, I chose a story of a very noble and heroic Roma woman.
- 1:30:45[SPEAKER_07]: You can look her up.
- 1:30:46[SPEAKER_07]: It's her story again.
- 1:30:48[SPEAKER_07]: There's Nansia, Marcausca, really, really powerful story.
- 1:30:52[SPEAKER_07]: Kind of a shindler's list kind of story, if you will.
- 1:30:55[SPEAKER_07]: What were your thoughts on that opening interlude?
- 1:30:57[SPEAKER_07]: Even though it didn't match our, I'm like, book adventure very well.
- 1:31:01[SPEAKER_11]: You know, it's the idea of heroics in the face of tragedy and I feel like, you know, part of me, Alfredo, I was feeling for her and wondering if she was going to take this and take on a survivor's guilt kind of mentality from being the only survivor of her family and her village in her area.
- 1:31:18[SPEAKER_11]: But she really turns this into an inspiration to save her people and the other people around her and to really stand up repeatedly for what she believes in and what she believes that her people and the people around her deserve in terms of rights and freedoms and I think that like you know and even just the the note of never being recognized until years and years later and just kind of like quietly holding on to like that.
- 1:31:43[SPEAKER_11]: This is how a person affected history, not because of notoriety, but because of being an attempt to balance what had happened to her.
- 1:31:53[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, that was really inspiring.
- 1:31:55[SPEAKER_07]: How are you holding up in 2025, my friend?
- 1:31:57[SPEAKER_11]: You know, it's everything on the thing that I kept on saying a while ago was everything's on fire, but at least it's warm.
- 1:32:05[SPEAKER_11]: You know, like,
- 1:32:08[SPEAKER_11]: It's just trying to see what you can do with the chaos around you.
- 1:32:14[SPEAKER_11]: And, you know, just definitely being aware of what's going on and being affected and being... You know, it's just so much, it's just so much all the time.
- 1:32:25[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, it's a lot.
- 1:32:26[SPEAKER_07]: And we're getting by by creating safety and by creating joy, which leads me to my last two questions for you today.
- 1:32:31[SPEAKER_07]: And then I'd love to hear any final observations on taking aim.
- 1:32:35[SPEAKER_07]: Just as an aside, for those of you that haven't heard the super-adaptoid trial, we had a delicious time putting that trial together.
- 1:32:41[SPEAKER_07]: Ages ago, so it's really fun.
- 1:32:42[SPEAKER_07]: We also referenced this in the Motoc trial if you want to go back and listen.
- 1:32:45[SPEAKER_07]: Okay, first of all, Justin, Fuck Mary Kill, Crystal, Cersei, the Black Widow.
- 1:32:50[SPEAKER_11]: Ooh, fuck Mario Kills, seriously, crystal like what I mean, fuck crystal, she's a hoe.
- 1:32:57[SPEAKER_11]: Well, I know eight.
- 1:32:58[SPEAKER_11]: No, I think you're all about actually.
- 1:33:02[SPEAKER_11]: All right, I was using her like, yeah, fuck that girl.
- 1:33:07[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, I probably would kill crystal.
- 1:33:10[SPEAKER_11]: I would probably marry Black Widow and I would probably fuck
- 1:33:15[SPEAKER_11]: say she's crazy black widow seems the most loyal and just real person of them and and she's got a lot going on and crystal is just a hope like like of the three they she's just canonically the worst and you know that's uh i say this with affection actually crystal reminds me a lot of Alicia uh there's a lot of there's a lot of vivacious they get all back you know
- 1:33:38[SPEAKER_07]: Oh no, no, I think there's different ways to read it, but I think I read her as like Videc vivacious.
- 1:33:42[SPEAKER_07]: I want to write like a real housewives of the Marvel universe starring Crystal and like Janet Bandine and Emma Frost is Tony's guilty exes there.
- 1:33:50[SPEAKER_07]: It would be delicious.
- 1:33:51[SPEAKER_11]: Please don't tell me you see me as quick silver then because I that would break my heart, Chad.
- 1:33:55[SPEAKER_11]: You're much more than I think actually.
- 1:33:59[SPEAKER_07]: All right.
- 1:33:59[SPEAKER_07]: All right.
- 1:34:00[SPEAKER_07]: Before going with this cast of characters.
- 1:34:05[SPEAKER_07]: Okay, by last question, what would you do with the cosmic cube?
- 1:34:07[SPEAKER_11]: What would I do with the cosmic cube?
- 1:34:08[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, do I have it under the cosmic cube?
- 1:34:12[SPEAKER_07]: What would you do?
- 1:34:13[SPEAKER_11]: Do I have it under some realm of controller as it is it blowing up the area around me?
- 1:34:18[SPEAKER_11]: Is it you don't get context as it's a wilder?
- 1:34:20[SPEAKER_07]: You just say, I'mality shaping at your hands.
- 1:34:23[SPEAKER_11]: You know, I'm fishing for it.
- 1:34:25[SPEAKER_11]: It's, you try and trick the DM is what to get more information is how we do it in Dungeons and Dragons.
- 1:34:31[SPEAKER_11]: But what I do with it, it's hard because, you know, ultimate power.
- 1:34:35[SPEAKER_11]: You don't want to eliminate free will, but you don't want to have things happen against people.
- 1:34:40[SPEAKER_11]: And so how do you find a balance between that?
- 1:34:42[SPEAKER_11]: How do you separate people that have friction?
- 1:34:45[SPEAKER_11]: But don't impose rules.
- 1:34:47[SPEAKER_11]: It's, there's no.
- 1:34:49[SPEAKER_11]: There's no clean answer.
- 1:34:50[SPEAKER_11]: And then I feel like that's why I power like the cosmic cube.
- 1:34:53[SPEAKER_11]: That's why fascism that all the power of one man and in that position to be able to like say, everybody's got biases, everybody's got influences of what they want for their people and what they don't want because of this other people and I just, you can't.
- 1:35:07[SPEAKER_11]: One person all that power.
- 1:35:09[SPEAKER_11]: That was really you know, I know what fascism is and I know that that's like the theme But I I googled around you know, let's just refresh definitions examples, you know Get a little mini dossier of fashion at least you would y'all let me say you're doing a book report on fascism right now
- 1:35:24[SPEAKER_11]: And, you know, like just this idea of like how any one person would be affected by the power to affect free will and the power to influence the autonomy of people and like the freedom of people you are you more than most know how much work I put into research when I'm producing a content on the show in November on the show we're literally doing a fascism month.
- 1:35:46[SPEAKER_07]: The Patreonans are things like the Friends of Humanity and the Hate Monger, and we're doing the trial of Baron Zemo at the end.
- 1:35:52[SPEAKER_07]: So I've been similar.
- 1:35:53[SPEAKER_07]: I needed to kind of understand what was happening, which is what turned into these little mini episodes, but it's been a place for me to channel knowledge.
- 1:36:00[SPEAKER_07]: But I'm going to ask you again just so we end silly.
- 1:36:03[SPEAKER_07]: What would five-year-old Justin do with the Cosmic Cube?
- 1:36:05[SPEAKER_11]: Ooh, yeah, free lunches for everybody, get McDonald's, all the time, comics, just galore.
- 1:36:13[SPEAKER_11]: I don't have to go to school.
- 1:36:14[SPEAKER_11]: Even though I like school at five years old, I love school.
- 1:36:17[SPEAKER_11]: You two, the weight of reality had not yet weighed on me.
- 1:36:20[SPEAKER_11]: Young Justin was so joyful.
- 1:36:22[SPEAKER_11]: He was so jubilant, dies wide open.
- 1:36:24[SPEAKER_11]: I just feel like that's the jaded nature of innocence.
- 1:36:27[SPEAKER_11]: And how, how, how do you then use that for goodwill?
- 1:36:31[SPEAKER_11]: How do you say everybody's invited to this party?
- 1:36:34[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, that's what it is.
- 1:36:35[SPEAKER_07]: Just one giant party.
- 1:36:37[SPEAKER_07]: I was in a play when I was in college called Christmas every day, where I played like a little kid who wished for it to be Christmas every day.
- 1:36:43[SPEAKER_07]: And like, the family can only remember the day before.
- 1:36:46[SPEAKER_07]: And then, you know, like, it's just always Christmas.
- 1:36:48[SPEAKER_07]: And like, wow, he hears off very quickly.
- 1:36:51[SPEAKER_07]: Uh, it was a great fun.
- 1:36:51[SPEAKER_07]: Uh, I got to play like a bounce five year old.
- 1:36:54[SPEAKER_07]: My friend, it's delicious to hang out with you every time.
- 1:36:56[SPEAKER_07]: I love you and your wife very much.
- 1:36:57[SPEAKER_07]: Thanks for coming on today.
- 1:36:59[SPEAKER_07]: And, uh, happy anniversary.
- 1:37:00[SPEAKER_11]: Oh yeah, thank you absolutely come love coming on and talk in comics especially when it reaches outside of where I Normally read and in plays with characters that you know, I know some of them in context of other ways But seeing them here and and this kind of real nugget of one more piece of marble lore Yeah, in in fighting within the villains, but this is great.
- 1:37:24[SPEAKER_11]: Oh, it's always fun to hang out
- 1:37:25[SPEAKER_07]: Well, we get to hang out again when you do professor X and you're coming back for our watcher panel, which is exciting So I can't wait to hang out against your ball guys.
- 1:37:34[SPEAKER_11]: Are you going to NYCC?
- 1:37:35[SPEAKER_11]: Not this year sadly.
- 1:37:37[SPEAKER_11]: I know this will be the the one year in a while that we haven't gone Things are crazy.
- 1:37:41[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:37:42[SPEAKER_07]: I'm going.
