- 0:50Speaker 1: Fanatic Sportsbook. Back again for another football season, which is
- 0:54Speaker 1: back underway tonight. As the football season, it is the
- 0:58Speaker 1: Hall of Fame game and you can look that right here.
- 1:01Speaker 1: On ninety seven three ESPN, the Panthers take on the
- 1:03Speaker 1: Cardinals at his former Eagle quarterback Kenny Pickett getting the
- 1:07Speaker 1: start tonight for the Panthers. So, yeah, a little football
- 1:10Speaker 1: back tonight. You know, it's like you settle in to
- 1:14Speaker 1: watch the Hall of Fame game and it's like the
- 1:17Speaker 1: first series, you're like, football's back, and then you're kind
- 1:20Speaker 1: of like, Okay, this is not what I was anticipating.
- 1:23Speaker 1: So you want to get that football feelback. But what
- 1:27Speaker 1: it does, it starts the beginning of the football season.
- 1:30Speaker 1: It does in earnest, now get the routines back. Casey
- 1:34Speaker 1: Joyner reached out to me the other day and I
- 1:40Speaker 1: looked at it, and we've got another season of Casey
- 1:51Speaker 1: Joyner coming back. I think if you look at Casey Joyner,
- 1:55Speaker 1: he said to me that he's doing his whole Sorry,
- 2:00Speaker 1: I was trying to think of the word the substack
- 2:03Speaker 1: on the Eagles. And we're gonna do a little Eagle
- 2:06Speaker 1: preview with him as Casey Joyner will be back with
- 2:09Speaker 1: one thought every game for the season. All right, we're
- 2:13Speaker 1: gonna get Andrew to check out for today's football at
- 2:15Speaker 1: four here on the Sports Bats Live on ninety seven
- 2:18Speaker 1: three ESPN, as he joins me, now to talk a
- 2:21Speaker 1: little football. Football's back tonight, buddy, How are you doing well?
- 2:25Speaker 1: All's good, Andrew. Now, before we get into it, I
- 2:28Speaker 1: just saw Godsmacks coming to AC. Are you a Godsmack guy?
- 2:33Speaker 2: Uh? I could take him or leave him. I like
- 2:36Speaker 2: him a lot more, you know, maybe ten years ago,
- 2:39Speaker 2: but I could get down with some God Smack.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I was wondering if that was the because that woe
- 2:43Speaker 1: to me is kind of like in the middle there.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I'm not the biggest Godsmack guy in the world. I'm
- 2:47Speaker 1: like you, I could take them or leave them. But
- 2:49Speaker 1: when I saw that they're coming to Atlantic City and
- 2:52Speaker 1: I had you on today, I was thinking, I wonder
- 2:53Speaker 1: if the check go's in there, because if that was
- 2:56Speaker 1: the case and I needed to get my buddy some tickets,
- 2:58Speaker 1: I would hook you up with those tickets. But if
- 2:59Speaker 1: you're not at smack guy, I certainly can respect that
- 3:02Speaker 1: as well.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I will politely pass this time, but
- 3:07Speaker 2: please keep the you know, keep the concert mentions coming.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Man. I'm always thinking to you when the top when
- 3:12Speaker 1: the concerts start dropping, when there's one that I think
- 3:15Speaker 1: that you and I can go together, I'm definitely getting
- 3:17Speaker 1: us there, all right.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Make sure I'm gonna hold you to it.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I'll do, I'll be I'll make sure. Hey, I would
- 3:23Speaker 1: have gone to see Steve Heider with you had I
- 3:26Speaker 1: been around that Saturday night. I know that seeing Batney
- 3:29Speaker 1: was awesome. I would have gone to that had I
- 3:31Speaker 1: been around. But I will keep my eye on a
- 3:33Speaker 1: concert for the two of us. All right, let's get
- 3:35Speaker 1: into some football. For we got the NFC West today
- 3:37Speaker 1: Andrew de checkou before we get that one week in
- 3:40Speaker 1: the books for training him, I want to get one
- 3:42Speaker 1: observation from you on about the offense and one observation
- 3:45Speaker 1: from you about the defense.
- 3:47Speaker 2: So far, that's kind of a loaded question. With the offense,
- 3:52Speaker 2: I can go in a million different directions here, I'll
- 3:54Speaker 2: say that I'm going to go a different route. Some
- 3:58Speaker 2: of the reserve offensive linemen have caught my eye, and
- 4:00Speaker 2: I think namely we're talking about Mark hel Bell, the
- 4:03Speaker 2: rookie third round pick out of Miami, who for the
- 4:05Speaker 2: last two days repped at right tackle with the first
- 4:08Speaker 2: team in the absence of Lane Johnson who wasn't present.
- 4:12Speaker 2: And also Jake Majors is another young player there, and
- 4:16Speaker 2: Drew Kendall as well. Drew Kendall rep with the first
- 4:19Speaker 2: team left guard. It was a rest day for Landon Dickerson,
- 4:24Speaker 2: and I think Drew Kendall he's had a really nice
- 4:26Speaker 2: training camp, Mike. He's a center. Everyone knows he can
- 4:30Speaker 2: play center. He started thirty four games, I believe at
- 4:32Speaker 2: Boston College. But now they're cross training him at both
- 4:34Speaker 2: guard spots, which makes a lot of sense because if
- 4:38Speaker 2: he's going to be your interior backup, you obviously want
- 4:40Speaker 2: to get him in the mix as much as possible,
- 4:42Speaker 2: get him comfortable there, and I think he's done a
- 4:44Speaker 2: nice job. And then I mentioned Jake Majors as being
- 4:47Speaker 2: a younger player who's working with the second team. He
- 4:49Speaker 2: can play center or guard, and he's a player that
- 4:53Speaker 2: I like quite a bit coming out of Texas, and
- 4:55Speaker 2: seems like Eagles might like him a little bit too.
- 4:58Speaker 2: He's going to have an uphill battle to make the rock.
- 5:00Speaker 1: However, right on the you know when you look at
- 5:04Speaker 1: off as you mentioned, uh markl Bell is there real quick?
- 5:07Speaker 1: Is there any reason or concern why Lane Johnson has
- 5:11Speaker 1: just kind of been m I A.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I mean it's never ideal. You know, you want to
- 5:17Speaker 2: have your your veteran tackle there and and he's you
- 5:20Speaker 2: could see that the offense struggles when he's not in there.
- 5:23Speaker 2: That's a big part of it. But he's someone that
- 5:28Speaker 2: you feel, I know, this is different and the system
- 5:30Speaker 2: is going to be, you know, a drastic departure from
- 5:32Speaker 2: what they've done. But Lane Johnson's the best in the business.
- 5:35Speaker 2: And if there is one player that wasn't going to
- 5:38Speaker 2: be there for whatever reason, you probably feel a little
- 5:41Speaker 2: bit more comfortable knowing that it's Lane Johnson because I
- 5:43Speaker 2: think he can adapt to anything that's thrown his way.
- 5:47Speaker 2: It's not like it's you know, maybe someone coming off
- 5:50Speaker 2: an injury or or like a like a Am Jurgens
- 5:53Speaker 2: who's not there, right, I mean, it's it's Lane Johnson,
- 5:56Speaker 2: so it's it's certainly not ideal, but you know, I
- 6:00Speaker 2: think he gotta. It comes with the territory, I guess,
- 6:03Speaker 2: you know, when you have a veteran and things sometimes
- 6:07Speaker 2: pop up. I don't know what it is, but we'll
- 6:10Speaker 2: keep an eye on it and see if he's back soon.
- 6:12Speaker 1: All right, let's get into the NFC West, which I
- 6:16Speaker 1: don't know about you probably in my estimation, the best
- 6:19Speaker 1: division in football. You've got two legitimate top tier Super
- 6:23Speaker 1: Bowl contenders, maybe even three based on health with San Francisco.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Let's start with the Rams finished second last year, lost
- 6:30Speaker 1: the NFC Championship game. Traded for Miles Garrett. They've got
- 6:35Speaker 1: Trent McDuffie, Jalen Watson on the defensive side the ball.
- 6:39Speaker 1: They could be bringing back Aaron Donald offensively, Let's start there.
- 6:44Speaker 1: What stands out about the Rams offense because they made
- 6:47Speaker 1: so many big moves on defense.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Well, it's the continuity with their receiving corps with DeVonta Adams,
- 6:54Speaker 2: Cooper Cup, Poka Nakua, Kolobe Parkinson's a solid tight end.
- 6:57Speaker 2: You have Matthew Stafford, who might be my favorite quarterback
- 7:00Speaker 2: to watch in the NFL. He can still sling it.
- 7:03Speaker 2: He's got a really strong arm, and I think he
- 7:06Speaker 2: just has such a quick release and has a really
- 7:08Speaker 2: good feel, really good foothold for that offense at this point,
- 7:11Speaker 2: but yeah, I like their offense. Carbon Williams at running
- 7:14Speaker 2: back doesn't do anything remarkably, you know, remarkably notable, but
- 7:19Speaker 2: he can catch the football, He has good burst, and
- 7:23Speaker 2: he seems to be a really good fit for what
- 7:25Speaker 2: they want to do.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Schematic wise, we just mentioned the additions on defense. I
- 7:30Speaker 1: don't know for your money. Is there a better defense
- 7:32Speaker 1: than what we're talking about right here with the Rams.
- 7:35Speaker 2: No, I don't think so. You're talking about all the
- 7:38Speaker 2: young pieces Fisk they have young, you have Miles Garrett,
- 7:44Speaker 2: of course, Trent McDuffie. Jayleen Watson's a corner that I
- 7:47Speaker 2: really liked with the Chiefs. I think he was a
- 7:50Speaker 2: little underrated, kind of got lost in the mix there
- 7:53Speaker 2: considering the talent that they had. But yeah, I mean
- 7:56Speaker 2: they have talent at all three levels. I think at
- 7:58Speaker 2: anytime you add someone like Miles Garrett, that puts you
- 8:01Speaker 2: in an elite category. And I would say that they're probably,
- 8:05Speaker 2: and I don't want to spoil anything, they're probably the
- 8:07Speaker 2: most well rounded team, certainly in the NFC. I can't
- 8:11Speaker 2: speak to the NFL, but I think the NFC for sure,
- 8:14Speaker 2: based off of that edition alone Football four.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Let you got the world champions in this division, they're
- 8:20Speaker 1: not even getting talked about.
- 8:21Speaker 2: First.
- 8:22Speaker 1: It's the Seahawks did his first last year, they won
- 8:25Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. No offensive Cornat Klink Kubiak, Kenneth Walker's gone,
- 8:29Speaker 1: Rick Wollen is here, Kobe Bryant. They lost some talent
- 8:33Speaker 1: on this this Seahawks team Sam Donald is back. Is
- 8:37Speaker 1: this team poised to be back in the Super Bowl?
- 8:40Speaker 1: Mix with the offense they bring back losing Walker.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Well, especially defensively, I'm gonna have to say yes, they
- 8:48Speaker 2: can do just enough. Offensively. Sam Darren has proven well,
- 8:51Speaker 2: he answered a lot of the critics, but he's proven
- 8:54Speaker 2: that he can lead an offense and he can kind
- 8:56Speaker 2: of be a little bit more of a higher end
- 8:58Speaker 2: game manager, if you will, where he's able to facilitate
- 9:01Speaker 2: the football, keep it out of harm's way, let the
- 9:03Speaker 2: defense do their thing. And I like Jadarium Price that
- 9:07Speaker 2: they drafted in the first round of running back. They
- 9:10Speaker 2: also have Sharbone, who I believe is coming off an injury.
- 9:14Speaker 2: The receiving corps with Rashid Shaheed, Jackson Smith and Jigba. Yeah,
- 9:19Speaker 2: I mean that there's a there's a lots of like
- 9:21Speaker 2: Aj Barner's a sort of an under the radar tight
- 9:26Speaker 2: end that I think has a big role in their
- 9:27Speaker 2: in their offense, especially in the red zone. So yeah,
- 9:30Speaker 2: I mean Sam Donald can just has to just has
- 9:33Speaker 2: to capably navigate it and keep the ball out of
- 9:35Speaker 2: harm's way and let the defense kind of do their thing.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Yeah, that defense was really good. Last year they lose
- 9:40Speaker 1: wool In to Philadelphia. We'll see h You know, now
- 9:42Speaker 1: he was a guy that you know, he comes here.
- 9:45Speaker 1: The Eagles got an upgrade the Seahawks. You know, it
- 9:48Speaker 1: wasn't like he was in every down. He had a
- 9:50Speaker 1: kind of a roller coaster year and and kind of
- 9:53Speaker 1: a tender he He came onto the scene out there
- 9:55Speaker 1: as this big physical corner when he was a rookie,
- 9:58Speaker 1: late round pick, and then he's kind of been up
- 10:00Speaker 1: and down. So we'll see what the Seahawks bring back
- 10:03Speaker 1: as the defending champions. We talked about the Niners Andrew.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I don't know. They could be a super Bowl level
- 10:10Speaker 1: team or they could be a non playoff team. Finished
- 10:12Speaker 1: third last year at twelve and five. They beat the
- 10:14Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles. Year they got blasted because of injuries in
- 10:18Speaker 1: the playoff party. We don't know what's up with Kittle,
- 10:20Speaker 1: persl They got all they were all hurt last year.
- 10:23Speaker 1: What do you make of the offense of the forty
- 10:25Speaker 1: nine ers with what they have back entering this year.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Well, they're relying on a lot of players that have
- 10:32Speaker 2: had in a pretty extensive injury history. Deebo, Samuel Christian McCaffrey,
- 10:36Speaker 2: Christian Kirk. Yeah, I mean they if they're all healthy,
- 10:43Speaker 2: they'll be able to put up some points, Mike, but
- 10:47Speaker 2: they're banking on, you know, clean bill of health from
- 10:50Speaker 2: a lot of their skilled players. Their offensive lines not bad.
- 10:53Speaker 2: But I do like Brock Purty a little bit. He's
- 10:56Speaker 2: someone that I think is a little polarizing because he
- 10:59Speaker 2: doesn't necessarily doing one thing particularly great, but he's a
- 11:02Speaker 2: really effective quarterback, keeps them in games and knows how
- 11:06Speaker 2: to win. So yeah, I mean their offense is okay,
- 11:09Speaker 2: but I would be a little bit a little bit
- 11:12Speaker 2: hesitant to be a little too to be too strong
- 11:15Speaker 2: on them because of their skill players and the injury
- 11:18Speaker 2: history there.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Mike Evans there, Juwan Jennings out. Jennings had the big
- 11:21Speaker 1: game here, also bringing in Christian Kirk. As you mentioned,
- 11:25Speaker 1: so two new receivers. Raheem Morris is the new defensive
- 11:28Speaker 1: coordinator there. What is he working with defensively for the Niners.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Yeah, their secondary, they have Diamador Lenore who's kind of
- 11:38Speaker 2: a nice player up in stout, an interesting nickelback that
- 11:42Speaker 2: they have Drake Greenlaw, Malik Mustafa JayR. Brown also at
- 11:47Speaker 2: safety there. Yeah, I like their defense. That's sort of
- 11:50Speaker 2: been what I believe that they can hang their hat on.
- 11:54Speaker 2: They're going to be a fast and physical team and
- 11:58Speaker 2: competitive at all three levels. But I think really what
- 12:01Speaker 2: it's going to come down to, Mike, is the offense
- 12:03Speaker 2: going to be enough to be able to play complimentary
- 12:06Speaker 2: football Because the defense is good. It's not playing on
- 12:09Speaker 2: the level of Seattle. But I think it's a tall
- 12:12Speaker 2: task if you're expecting them to kind of keep you
- 12:14Speaker 2: in games.
- 12:15Speaker 1: All right, They're very interesting if they can stay healthy.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Can they stay healthy? We shall see. The Cardinals they
- 12:22Speaker 1: are the fourth place team three and fourteenth. He had
- 12:24Speaker 1: three really good teams and then the Cardinals. Obviously, Jonathan
- 12:28Speaker 1: gen ends up getting fired. They brought in Mike Lafleur.
- 12:31Speaker 1: They got a new quarterback out there, which has caused
- 12:34Speaker 1: a lot of issues because they they you know, they
- 12:38Speaker 1: couldn't sign him. Carson Beck, by the way, is going
- 12:41Speaker 1: to sign start the game tonight. This Cardinals team looks
- 12:45Speaker 1: like they are probably at least a year away.
- 12:47Speaker 2: For being a year away, probably a couple of years,
- 12:51Speaker 2: I would thank you. Jacoby Brissett is a capable veteran.
- 12:54Speaker 2: He's not someone who I believe is going to be
- 12:56Speaker 2: able to elevate an offense. Gardner Minshew's there. You mentioned
- 12:58Speaker 2: Carson Beck, my love. They drafted the running back there.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Trade McBride might be my favorite tight end in the NFL.
- 13:04Speaker 2: I think he does pretty much everything exceptionally well. Then
- 13:08Speaker 2: you have the wide receiver group there, and Marvin Harrison
- 13:11Speaker 2: Junior is another pole rising player. Has not yet fulfilled
- 13:15Speaker 2: expectations at this stage of his young career, and I
- 13:19Speaker 2: think it's all going to revolve around what he's able
- 13:21Speaker 2: to do. Trade McBride, I think the passing game is
- 13:24Speaker 2: going to go through him. But Jacoby Bursett, I mean
- 13:28Speaker 2: that's we're talking about a middling starting quarterback with an
- 13:32Speaker 2: offense that doesn't have a ton of firepower to help
- 13:34Speaker 2: uplift them.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that's an organization with a lot of problems. Although
- 13:39Speaker 1: Jeremiah Love, we'll see what he brings to the table.
- 13:42Speaker 1: He is one of the favorites. I think he is
- 13:43Speaker 1: the favorite, by the way, for Offensive Rookie of the Year, Shad.
- 13:46Speaker 1: They have that going for them, all right. This is
- 13:48Speaker 1: a tough division. We were talking about this yesterday. I
- 13:51Speaker 1: think it might be the best division in football. They
- 13:54Speaker 1: got three really good teams. How do you stack them?
- 13:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean they have Walter Nolan the third, who
- 14:00Speaker 2: I really like, and on the back end they have
- 14:05Speaker 2: some they have some interesting pieces there Will Johnson, let's
- 14:09Speaker 2: not forget from Michigan, and he fell a little bit
- 14:13Speaker 2: further at last year's draft than I thought that he would.
- 14:16Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean, I mean they're a team that's
- 14:19Speaker 2: about a couple of years away. They still can stand
- 14:22Speaker 2: to improve in certain areas. I like what they have
- 14:25Speaker 2: there in the trenches, however, and there are work in progress.
- 14:28Speaker 2: On the back end. They have a couple of pieces,
- 14:30Speaker 2: but there's still one or two away from really solidifying
- 14:33Speaker 2: that area. They also lost Jalen Thompson their safety and
- 14:36Speaker 2: free agency. He went to the Dallas Cowboys, so he's
- 14:39Speaker 2: there with Christian Parker. I think that's a big loss
- 14:42Speaker 2: for them and an underrated player at that position.
- 14:44Speaker 1: All right, there's the Cardinals. Let's see what you think
- 14:47Speaker 1: of the NFC West. Last year's Super Bowl champions, the
- 14:51Speaker 1: Seahawks won it. The Rams a lot of people think
- 14:53Speaker 1: are the favorite. This year. There's the Niners. How are
- 14:57Speaker 1: you prognosticating the NFC West this year?
- 15:00Speaker 2: Rams? Seahawks, Niners, Cardinals.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Rams, Seahawks, Niners, Cardinals. Okay, just the way we went
- 15:07Speaker 1: through them. There. There you go, Today's football at four
- 15:09Speaker 1: with Andrew to checko. And next week we will be
- 15:12Speaker 1: on the NFC South, which is maybe the worst division
- 15:15Speaker 1: in all of football, but we could be the most
- 15:17Speaker 1: competitive one. We'll preview that one next week with Andrew
- 15:20Speaker 1: and of course check out all his stuff over at
- 15:22Speaker 1: insidethebirds dot com. All Right, man, I'll look for a concert.
- 15:27Speaker 2: All right, Mike, I'm gonna hold you to it. I'll
- 15:29Speaker 2: talk to you soon, see you man.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Alright, Sports Past Live, there's football for Andrew to check o.
