I love reading travelogues. It's cheapest and fastest way to go to places you've never been or are not likely to go to. All travelogues give you a sense of the place, that's the basic minimum requirement I guess...but the best ones introduce you to people you will never meet. The really good ones leave you a little more curious, a tad unsettled. I found Mohan Rakesh's travelogue ''Akhri Chattan Tak' to be really good. It scores on one more point...the time when it was written -1952. Turning point for the country.
