- 0:01Ezekiel chapter 25. Dear Lord, please help us have
- 0:05wisdom and insight from what we read.
- 0:10We ask this in Jesus name, Amen. So this is a prophecy against
- 0:16Amon. The word of the Lord came to me.
- 0:19Son of man, set your face against the Ammonites and
- 0:22prophecy against them. Say to them, hear the word of
- 0:26the Lord, of the sovereign Lord. This is what the sovereign Lord
- 0:30says, because you said aha, over my sanctuary when it was
- 0:35desecrated, and over the land of Israel when it was laid waste,
- 0:40and over the people of Judah when they went into exile.
- 0:43Therefore I am going to give you to the people of the East as a
- 0:48possession. They will set up their camps and
- 0:51pitch their tents among you. They will eat your fruit and
- 0:55drink your milk. I will return, or I will turn
- 0:59Raba into pasture for camels, and Ammon into a resting place
- 1:04for sheep. Then you will know that I am the
- 1:07Lord. For this is what the sovereign
- 1:10Lord says, because you clapped your hands and stamped your
- 1:14feet, rejoicing with all the malice of your heart against the
- 1:18land of Israel. Therefore I will stretch out my
- 1:22hand against you and give you as plunder to the nations.
- 1:27I will wipe you out from among the nations and exterminate you
- 1:33from the countries. I will destroy you, and you will
- 1:36know that I am the Lord. The area that He's talking about
- 1:41is in modern day Jordan and Ammon and Moab.
- 1:48Those were the children of Lot's daughters with Lot when Sodom
- 1:54and Gomorrah was destroyed. So then there's a prophecy
- 1:57against Moab. This is what the Sovereign Lord
- 2:00says. Because Moab and Seer said,
- 2:04look, Judah has become like all the other nations.
- 2:07Therefore I will expose the flank of Moab, beginning at its
- 2:11frontier towns, both Joshimoth, Bail Mayon and Curiatheum, the
- 2:18glory of that land. I will give Moab along with the
- 2:21Ammonites to the people of the East as a possession, so that
- 2:25the Ammonites will be remembered among the nations, and I will
- 2:28inflict punishment on Moab. Then they will know that I am
- 2:32the Lord. Prophecy against Edom.
- 2:35This is what the sovereign Lord says, because Edom took revenge
- 2:39on Judah and became very guilty by doing so.
- 2:42Therefore this is what the sovereign Lord says.
- 2:45I will stretch out my hand against Edom and kill both man
- 2:49and beast. I will lay it waste from Timon
- 2:52to DDN. They will fall by the sword.
- 2:55I will take vengeance on Edom by the hand of my people Israel,
- 3:00and they will deal with Edom in accordance with my anger and my
- 3:03wrath. They will know my vengeance
- 3:06declares the sovereign Lord. OK, this is the point where it
- 3:11prophecy gets so hard to understand, like if something
- 3:14happened or if it's a prophecy for the future.
- 3:18And this one is one of those specific ones because it says
- 3:24here that I will take vengeance on Edom by the hand of my
- 3:29people, Israel. And they will deal with Edom in
- 3:33accordance with my anger and my wrath.
- 3:35They will know my vengeance. Yeah, they will know my
- 3:39vengeance, declares the Lord. So Israel hasn't come against
- 3:45Edom in the Bible and Israel hasn't come against Jordan.
- 3:50It hasn't happened yet. So I would see this as a
- 3:55possibility that it could be yet to be fulfilled.
- 3:59I did look at Amir's book and he referenced a Doctor Who had a a
- 4:05theory on it, but I don't know that I necessarily it doesn't it
- 4:11doesn't solve it for me. Actually, I'll read that too.
- 4:15So it doesn't seem like it is. It seems like a very circuitous
- 4:21way to say that it was fulfilled.
- 4:24To me, it seems like this is something that will be fulfilled
- 4:27in the future. OK.
- 4:28And then there's another prophecy, A prophecy against
- 4:31Philistia. This is the land of Gaza.
- 4:34This is what the Sovereign Lord says.
- 4:37Because the Philistines acted in vengeance and took revenge with
- 4:40malice in their hearts and with ancient hostility sought to
- 4:46destroy Judah. Therefore this is what the
- 4:49Sovereign Lord says. I'm about to stretch out my hand
- 4:52against the Philistines, and I will ripe out the Kerathites and
- 4:56destroy those remaining along the coast.
- 4:59I will carry out great vengeance on them and punish them in my
- 5:04wrath. Then they will know that I am
- 5:06the Lord when I take vengeance on them.
- 5:10So that is the end of chapter 25 and I will read the questions
- 5:17and answers from the study Bible.
- 5:19What does the expression aha mean here?
- 5:22This term can denote delight over some person or thing.
- 5:27Here the term aha is used as a verbal expression of malicious
- 5:32delight. The Ammonites would have been
- 5:35would be delighted in a deviant way that their neighbors,
- 5:38sanctuary and land had been desecrated.
- 5:42Who were the people of the east? This is probably a reference to
- 5:46the invading Babylonian army. The invaders would capture
- 5:51Judah, but also Ammon, part of modern Jordan and the land or
- 5:57the land just east of Israel. So I guess the overall theme
- 6:04that we would learn from this would be that rejoicing in God's
- 6:10chosen's punishment will have consequences.
- 6:14So God chose Israel, and even if he allows Israel to be attacked
- 6:18by other nations as discipline, he will still make those other
- 6:24nations who attacked Israel accountable for that.
- 6:28And that's what he's showing here.
- 6:30And it's not even that these nations attacked Israel, it's
- 6:35that they were laughing and making basically rejoicing over
- 6:40Israel's troubles that they had. So it's never good to go against
- 6:45Israel. We can see that in the Bible.
- 6:48And so I will read that theory that for chapter 25 from Amir's
- 6:54book exploring Ezekiel, the one he references, it says how
- 7:04Doctor Charles Dwyer postulated Edom was conquered by the
- 7:10Nabatians. During the intertestamental
- 7:15period. The remnant of the Edomites,
- 7:18also called Idumians, moved West to the Negev.
- 7:22Later they were forced to become Jewish converts.
- 7:27Josephus the Antiquities of the Jews and it says 139 and 1.
- 7:35Thus the Edomites lost both their country and their national
- 7:39identity. So the only question that I have
- 7:43on it is from what I just read it sounds like they were forced
- 7:48to become Jewish converts. That means they weren't natural
- 7:53born Jews. So I wouldn't know that back at
- 7:59this time that they would have actually.
- 8:02I mean, of course later there is a grafting in of other nations
- 8:10into the into Israel. But at that time was there a
- 8:14grafting in to those people or or not?
- 8:19I don't know. I guess if there was a grafting
- 8:21in it could be considered. But this is the, I guess the
- 8:25thought I have is that it's uncertain whether this has been
- 8:31fulfilled or it is yet to remain.
- 8:34And the same goes for the next chapter, 26.
- 8:37So I'll keep going because we're only about 8 minutes in.
- 8:40That's all the questions and answers for 25 on this.
- 8:45Oh, actually, there's one more Did God want to get even?
- 8:48This was judgement, not revenge. Revenge contradicts God's
- 8:54nature. Judgement does not.
- 8:56In fact, the holiness of God requires that justice be done
- 9:01and judge judgment be rendered. If God neglected justice by
- 9:08overlooking sin, He would not be a holy God.
- 9:12No, God did not want to get even.
- 9:14He was simply being holy by punishing sin.
- 9:18But even God's punishment can be considered an expression of His
- 9:22mercy. His judgement in the Old
- 9:24Testament typically halted the the slide into further sin.
- 9:30Left unchecked, sin violates the order God planned for creation
- 9:35and would eventually cause the destruction of the world and
- 9:38humanity. Judgment mercifully halts that
- 9:41process. Before Jesus Christ took the
- 9:45punishment for sin by dying on the cross, judgment fell on
- 9:49sinners. Old Testament sacrifices
- 9:52provided pardon, but no sacrifice was sufficient to
- 9:56completely and permanently satisfy the requirements of
- 9:59holiness. Only through the cross of Christ
- 10:04did mercy triumph completely over judgment.
- 10:09OK, so that's the end of chapter 25.
- 10:11I'll go into chapter 26, a prophecy against Tyre in the
- 10:1611th month of the 12th year, on the first day of the month, the
- 10:19word of the Lord came to me, Son of Man, because Tyre has said of
- 10:24Jerusalem, aha, the gate of the nations is broken, and its doors
- 10:29have swung open to me. Now that she lies in ruins, I
- 10:33will prosper. Therefore, this is what the
- 10:36Sovereign Lord says. I am against you, Tyre.
- 10:40I will bring many nations against against you.
- 10:44Like the sea casting up its waves, they will destroy the
- 10:49walls of Tyre and pull down her towers.
- 10:51I will scrape away her rubble and make her a bare rock.
- 10:56Out in the sea, she will become a place to spread fishnets
- 11:02before I have spoken, declares the sovereign Lord.
- 11:05She will become plunder for the nations, and her settlements on
- 11:08the mainland will be ravaged by the sword.
- 11:11Then they will know that I am the Lord, for this is what the
- 11:14sovereign Lord says. From the north I'm going to
- 11:16bring against Tyre Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon.
- 11:21There's a footnote here that says Nebuchadnezzar, of which
- 11:27Nebuchadnezzar is a variant here and often in Ezekiel and
- 11:32Jeremiah. OK, so Nebuchadnezzar, king of
- 11:36Babylon, king of kings, with horses and Chariots, with
- 11:39horsemen and great a great army. He will ravage your settlements
- 11:43on the mainland with the sword. He will set up siege works
- 11:46against you, build up a ramp against your walls and raise his
- 11:50Shields against you. He will direct the blows of his
- 11:54battering Rams against your walls and demolish your towers
- 11:59with his weapons. His horses will be so many that
- 12:05they will cover you with dust. Your walls will tremble at the
- 12:10noise of the war horses, wagons and Chariots when he enters your
- 12:14gates as men enter a city whose walls have been broken through.
- 12:19The hooves of his horses will trample all your streets.
- 12:23He will kill your people with the sword and your strong
- 12:27pillars will fall to the ground. They will plunder your wealth
- 12:31and loot your merchandise. They will break down your walls
- 12:34and demolish your fine houses and and throw your stones,
- 12:39timber and rubble into the sea. I will put an end to your noisy
- 12:43songs, and the music of your harps will be heard no more.
- 12:49I will make you a bare rock, and you will become a place to
- 12:54spread fishnets. You will never be rebuilt, for
- 12:58I, the Lord, have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord.
- 13:02This is what the Sovereign Lord says to Tyre.
- 13:04Will not the coastlands tremble at the sound of your fall, when
- 13:08the wounded groan and the slaughter takes place in you,
- 13:12when all the Princess of the Coast will step down from their
- 13:16Thrones and lay aside their robes and take off their
- 13:19embroidered garments? Clothed with terror, they will
- 13:22sit on the ground trembling, every moment appalled at you.
- 13:27Then they will take up lament concerning you and say to you
- 13:31how you are destroyed City of Renown people peopled by men of
- 13:38the sea. You were a power on the seas,
- 13:42you and your citizens. You put your terror on all who
- 13:47live there. Now the coastlands tremble on
- 13:50the day of your fall. The islands in the sea are
- 13:53terrified at your collapse. This is what the Sovereign Lord
- 13:56says, when I make you a desolate city, like cities no longer
- 14:01inhabited, and when I bring the ocean depths over you and it's
- 14:06vast waters cover you, then I will bring you down with those
- 14:11who go down to the pit, to the people of long ago.
- 14:16I will make you dwell in the earth below, as in ancient
- 14:21ruins, with those who go down to the pit, and you will not return
- 14:27or take your place in the land of the living.
- 14:30I will bring you to a horrible end, and you will be no more.
- 14:36You will be sought, but you will never again be found, declares
- 14:42the Sovereign Lord. OK, this is another
- 14:44controversial 1 so I will just read what the study Bible says
- 14:48first and then talk a little bit more about it.
- 14:53So why call Nebuchadnezzar king of kings?
- 14:56Because God wanted to speak in terms of the people could
- 15:00understand he took the human limitations of his listeners
- 15:04into account. Since Nebuchadnezzar was the
- 15:07greatest king the people of that day had ever known, and since
- 15:12other kings served him, Nebuchadnezzar was viewed by
- 15:15people as the as the quote king of kings.
- 15:18God alone, of course, is the true King of kings.
- 15:27What's left of Tyre today, never to be rebuilt, is best
- 15:31understood to mean that tyres glory and prestige would never
- 15:37be restored. Nebuchadnezzar took the mainland
- 15:40portion of the city in 572 BC, but the people retreated to the
- 15:45island portion of the city and remained there until the
- 15:48Babylonians left thirteen years later.
- 15:52For the next 2 1/2 centuries the city endured continuous hardship
- 15:57until Alexander the Great devastated it in 332 BC.
- 16:02Today Tyre exists as a small town of 5000 people.
- 16:08And that's let's see, did these Princess abdicate their Thrones?
- 16:15In essence, yes. But this is really a picture of
- 16:19surrender, not abdication. Surrender being the only way to
- 16:23survive the invasion. Ezekiel prophesied that the king
- 16:27of Babylon would completely humiliate the area's rulers,
- 16:33called kings, in 27 verse 35. Biblical prophets often painted
- 16:39vivid word pictures like this. And what is a lament?
- 16:44This suggests 2 ideas #1A musical or poetic dirge, a song
- 16:49of sorrow or two. A recognition of judgement would
- 16:52seem to be primarily implied here.
- 16:58And does this verse foretell a flood?
- 17:01The foretelling here of a coming tidal wave could be literal or
- 17:05figurative. If it is literal, just as God
- 17:09would use Nebuchadnezzar as an instrument of divine wrath
- 17:13against the the port of Tyre, so he would also bring a flood to
- 17:18decimate the city. If it is figurative,
- 17:22Nebuchadnezzar would serve as, quote, the water that would
- 17:25overwhelm Tyre. What is the pit?
- 17:29This suggests an end to life, perhaps referring to hell.
- 17:33Although our Christian concepts of hell generally stem from the
- 17:36New Testament and contain the idea of perpetual punishment,
- 17:40the pit may be better understood to mean the final destruction of
- 17:44the city, not the personal fate of its citizens.
- 17:48So there's a lot there. So let's see, where do we start?
- 17:57OK, there's something that I've noticed as I've read a lot of
- 18:03prophecy and and if if you think about it, just just think back
- 18:08to when God first was aggravated with people when they started
- 18:13building the Tower of Babel. And so it seems like Babylon
- 18:19comes up over and over. It just keeps reoccurring.
- 18:24There's just like this idolatry and significance.
- 18:30And so it happened with the tower of Babylon, Babylon or the
- 18:35Tower of Babel. And then there's also Babylon.
- 18:41But then again, in the, in the very end of the Bible, in the
- 18:46Book of Revelation, there's Mystery Babylon and it, there's
- 18:52a lot of symbology obviously in Revelation.
- 18:56So it's really, some parts are very hard to know for sure what
- 19:01they mean. Other parts are explained within
- 19:03the actual book. But what I was starting to get
- 19:08to was that there seems to be some spiritual significance with
- 19:13Babylon. It just, Babylon just keeps
- 19:16emerging. And so I've, I've looked up a
- 19:20lot of stuff about these ancient beliefs and all these
- 19:26neighboring towns or neighboring nations and what they believed.
- 19:32And I have mentioned this on prior podcasts, but Mystery
- 19:38Babylon could be spiritual because there's Ishtar who is
- 19:45called the quote Queen of Heaven.
- 19:48And and then there's Inanna also.
- 19:51And these are like ancient Mesopotamium gods.
- 19:56And so I think there may be some significance to it.
- 20:00So I'm going to just go through, I've opened a whole bunch of
- 20:03tabs, some things that I looked up.
- 20:05And so I will, I will read what it it says here.
- 20:09So. Just in searching Google I said
- 20:14what what does the Bible say will happen to Tyre Lebanon and
- 20:19talked about the prophecies of destruction.
- 20:21Ezekiel 26 describes God bringing quote many nations
- 20:25against Tyre similar to the sea waves in Ezekiel 26.
- 20:30Three, the mainland city would be destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar,
- 20:34and the island city would later be ruined with its stones and
- 20:37timber thrown into the sea. Never to be rebuilt or never be
- 20:43rebuilt. Ezekiel 2614 and 21 state the
- 20:47tire would become a place for the spreading of Nets and that
- 20:50would never be rebuilt or found again.
- 20:53Interpretation of Never be never rebuilt by scholars debate this
- 20:59as a city exists there today. However, many interpret this as
- 21:05a prophecy that Tyre would never again regain its former glory as
- 21:10a commercial superpower and maritime trade monopolizing
- 21:14empire. Historical fulfillment.
- 21:18Critics argue that Nebuchadnezzar did not fully
- 21:21destroy the city, but proponents point to Alexander the Great's
- 21:25complete destruction in 332 BC, using the debris to build a
- 21:30Causeway and subsequent repeated destructions as fulfillment of
- 21:35the prophecy. While Tyre exists today as a
- 21:38city in Lebanon, the biblical prophecy focused on the total
- 21:43destruction of the ancient Phoenician power structure and
- 21:46its enduring, never to be restored status as the dominant,
- 21:51opulent and secure commercial center of the ancient world.
- 21:57And then alternatively, it could be fulfilled in the future.
- 22:01And there's a lot more about Tyre that's really gets
- 22:05interesting that we'll get on get to later.
- 22:09So Inana and Ishtar, this is very interesting.
- 22:13So Inana and Ishtar are essentially the same powerful
- 22:18Mesopotamium goddess, with Inana bringing her Sumerian name.
- 22:25Or Inana was the Sumerian name, and Ishtar was the Acadian or
- 22:31Babylonian name, representing a complex deity of love, sex,
- 22:37fertility, and war, often identified with the planet
- 22:41Venus. While originally distinct, they
- 22:45were syncretized or merged by the Akkadians, but Inana's
- 22:49origins are Sumerian Lady of Heaven, daughter of Moon God
- 22:55Nana. While Ishtar's roots are
- 22:59Semitic, she's a major figure in myths like the Epic of
- 23:03Gilgamesh, known for her passionate dual nature as both
- 23:07bringer of desire and destroyer in battle.
- 23:13So I just think this is, it's very interesting when you see
- 23:20the depictions of it and where it's been found and what they
- 23:24worshipped. And you keep seeing Babylon over
- 23:28and over again. And especially this part of the
- 23:30Lady of Heaven or the Queen of Heaven that Ishtar was called
- 23:36like the queen of heaven. And, and I think that's also
- 23:39referenced here. Again, this is idolatry that God
- 23:43forbid. And I don't know what these
- 23:47entities are. And it could be something
- 23:50spiritual. I I'm not really sure, could be
- 23:54fallen angels, don't really know.
- 23:56But it just seems like over and over again, there's like a
- 24:00spirit of Babylon and that's just something that I was
- 24:05noticing. And then there's a lot of things
- 24:08that I had looked up about Babylon and and tired too.
- 24:13But there's going to be something else.
- 24:17Let's see something else. That was really interesting.
- 24:23I might read that later. OK, this this kind of was
- 24:32interesting to me and I just kind of stumbled on it.
- 24:37The Crescent, star and symbol now commonly associated with
- 24:41Islam has distinct roots in ancient Mesopotamium, Sumerian,
- 24:47and Ottoman culture, where the Crescent represented the moon
- 24:51God sin and the star symbolized the goddess of love and war,
- 24:56Ishtar. Isn't that weird?
- 25:00I didn't know this but I just looked it up that this Crescent
- 25:06moon with the star was tied to the Pagan deity Ishtar.
- 25:12And like I said, it seems like there's Ishtar and Inana.
- 25:19It's very much tied to Babylon and it's also a false religion.
- 25:28And so this is very interesting. So let's see when it says Ishtar
- 25:32in context with Islam symbolism. While the Crescent and the star
- 25:36are iconic to Islam, their origins are traced back to the
- 25:40Sumerian, Byzantine and Roman eras, where eras where they were
- 25:44associated with the deity Sin and Ishtar.
- 25:49Let's see, paganism in Islam. The Arab Institution for Studies
- 25:53and Publishing explains that Ishtar represents a Pagan pre
- 25:57Islamic concept and the use of the name is prohibited in Islam.
- 26:04I wonder if it's prohibited why they would actually use the
- 26:08symbols though on a flag? That just seems where very
- 26:11strange historical connection. Some theories suggest that the
- 26:16pre Islamic S Arabian and Yemenite idolatry involved
- 26:21figures like Aftar, an Arabic name for Ishtar.
- 26:27And that's another one that was really interesting.
- 26:30And this, this gets really deep when you think about it, because
- 26:35so Yemen today is, I looked this up earlier and found out that
- 26:42Sheba is modern day Yemen. And think about this, Solomon
- 26:49was visited by the Queen of Sheba and she was impressed by
- 26:56him. And she, it was just, is this a
- 26:59coincidence or not? But she would paid him a certain
- 27:02amount of money or a certain amount of I, I don't know what
- 27:06the units were, but I think it was, I don't know if it was the
- 27:11weight of them or if it was the number of them.
- 27:14I, I looked it up earlier, but I don't.
- 27:16But it's, I think it's like 666 talents was what Solomon was
- 27:22received from the Queen of Sheba.
- 27:25And so now we're seeing the Queen of Sheba connected with or
- 27:29Sheba is Yemen. And then Yemen is Islamic and
- 27:36the Islamic flag has a Crescent moon and a star which came from
- 27:43Pagan deities and ties to Ishtar and Ishtar seems to tie to
- 27:50Babylon. So this is just very strange.
- 27:54Are all these coincidental or not religious differences?
- 27:59The Quran and some interpretations condemns the
- 28:02work worship of daughters of quote daughters of God Key
- 28:07aspects of Ishtar identity. Ishtar was the Akkadian Assyrian
- 28:12Babylonian goddess of love, war and fertility, often associated
- 28:16with the Sumerian goddess. Inana titles she was known as
- 28:22quote Queen of Heaven for the universe attributes she was
- 28:29associated with the planet Venus as well as with lions and
- 28:34storehouse gates cult. Her worship was widespread in
- 28:39the ancient Middle East. So just something very
- 28:46interesting that I came across. So when we talk about the in in
- 28:54this chapter 26, it was talking about going down to the pit.
- 28:59So I wanted to know like, is the pit the same as the abyss?
- 29:04And it is believed that that it is so because it's also called
- 29:11the bottomless pit. So the abyss.
- 29:14The abyss, interestingly enough is where the beast comes up out
- 29:20of the abyss in the Book of Revelation.
- 29:24So I think this is interesting. So anyway, there's a good
- 29:27summary that I found searching. This was in the Bible.
- 29:31The abyss or bottomless pit and the lake of fire are distinct
- 29:36locations, not the same place. The Abyss is a temporary prison
- 29:41for demons and Satan according to Revelation chapter 20 verses
- 29:46one through three, while the Lake of Fire is the final
- 29:51eternal destination for Satan, demons and the wicked,
- 29:55representing the second death. You can read about that in
- 29:58Revelation 20 and 14 through 15. So the key differences between
- 30:03the Abyss and the Lake of Fire. The Abyss is a bottomless pit,
- 30:07often viewed as a temporary holding place or prison for
- 30:12fallen angels and demons. Revelation describes Satan as
- 30:16being bound there for 1000 years before being released.
- 30:21That happens during the reign of Christ, the Lake of Fire,
- 30:26described as a place of eternal punishment, burning with sulfur.
- 30:31It is the final destination for the devil, his angels, the
- 30:35fallen angels, the beast, the false prophet, and those not
- 30:41found in the Book of Life. Timing.
- 30:45The abyss is used before the final judgment during the
- 30:49Millennium, whereas the lake of fire is the final judgment.
- 30:54So both places represent places of punishment.
- 30:58The Bible distinguishes them in function and timing.
- 31:04And let's see if there's anything more that I've had so
- 31:09many tabs open. I think I'm going to wrapped
- 31:11this up. But that pretty much concludes
- 31:14we're going to get to another really interesting chapter 27
- 31:18because it it is another one that seems like and maybe
- 31:24crossing back. I'm going to well, I'm going to
- 31:26go back a little bit. Revelation 18 sounds like what
- 31:32it verse or what chapter 26 talks about.
- 31:37Let me just go to that because that was that was kind of
- 31:41interesting. So it says they will take up a
- 31:45lament concerning you and say to you, you were destroyed city of
- 31:50renown people by men of the sea. You were a power on the seas,
- 31:54you and your citizens you were. You put your terror on all who
- 31:59live there. Now.
- 31:59The coastlands tremble on the day of your fall.
- 32:04The islands in the sea are terrified at your collapse.
- 32:07So on the day, sometimes you know, the day of the Lord, I
- 32:13think about that. But let's see here I'll read a
- 32:17couple of verses from Revelation 18.
- 32:21Verse 17 says in one such in one hour such great wealth has been
- 32:29brought to ruin. Every sea captain and all who
- 32:32travel by ship, the sailors and all who earn their living from
- 32:36the sea will stand far off when they see the smoke of her
- 32:41burning. This is talking about Mystery
- 32:43Babylon. They will exclaim, was there
- 32:46ever a city like this great city?
- 32:50Now, great city is referred to as Babylon.
- 32:54It's also referred to as Jerusalem.
- 33:00It is called great city in the Book of Revelation, and it's
- 33:06calling it similar to Sodom and Egypt, where we know that Sodom
- 33:11was more like sexual immorality and Egypt was idolatry or false
- 33:16gods. So you're having basically sex
- 33:19and false gods, and that's what God was repeatedly upset with
- 33:28his people for getting involved with that.
- 33:30That's exactly how Balaam originally figured out how to he
- 33:37couldn't curse the people of Israel.
- 33:42So instead he suggested to Balak the king, the king of the
- 33:48Ammonites, I think it was. This is from memory so I could
- 33:51be very wrong on this but I did I have looked this up not too
- 33:58long ago, but I I just I get names mixed up sometimes.
- 34:01But anyway he Balaam then said to the king after he couldn't
- 34:09curse the Israelites. He said, well, here's what you
- 34:14can basically do. And he basically tempting them
- 34:18with seduction and probably like temple prostitution.
- 34:22And that's how he was able to get them to sin, get them to
- 34:27into idolatry. So which again ties to this
- 34:32goddess Ishtar Nainana, because she's with love and she's with
- 34:37war and she's with destruction and could she be a spiritual
- 34:41entity? And could she be something more
- 34:44spiritual where she has places and it even says something about
- 34:51her. In fact, maybe I should just
- 34:53read Mystery Babylon, but I think it's going to it's going
- 34:57to hit a little bit more in chapter 27.
- 35:01So I might just save that for chapter 27 to talk about Mystery
- 35:05Babylon because I think I'm a little bit tired tonight.
- 35:09So anyway, I think I will wrap this up now because I'm
- 35:14babbling. So anyway, we'll catch up on the
- 35:19next chapter 27. Thank you.
