- 0:00Speaker 1: Tonight, Milwaukee stands tall for the first time in seven years.
- 0:05Speaker 1: The Brewers are back in the NLCS, A team of
- 0:10Speaker 1: so called average joes who have carried themselves like champions
- 0:15Speaker 1: in a city that still remembers the Harvey Wallbangers of
- 0:19Speaker 1: eighty two. This group has summoned its own magic, Ucher magic,
- 0:24Speaker 1: the spirit of a voice that defined Summers echoing now
- 0:28Speaker 1: in October, the weight is over, the dream is alive,
- 0:33Speaker 1: The Brewers are marching on, and the National League Championships
- 0:38Speaker 1: Series awaits. You know, the one and only Bob Uker
- 0:41Speaker 1: has a smile on his face watching that one. For sure,
- 0:46Speaker 1: legends ever die. That was Jaba Chamberlain Ucher up there,
- 0:50Speaker 1: Oh baby, The Brewers are moving on. What a moment,
- 0:56Speaker 1: What a time, And I don't know if there's a
- 0:58Speaker 1: city that deserves it more Milwaukee. Congratulations Chicago, We're with you.
- 1:04Speaker 1: But that was a heck of a series. The Closer
- 1:06Speaker 1: on TBS, presented by Genesis Motor America Curtis Granderson, Jimmy Rollins,
- 1:12Speaker 1: Pedro Martinez, Adam Lefko here to guide you through what
- 1:16Speaker 1: we just saw and what's coming up next. Speaking of which,
- 1:19Speaker 1: Monday Night, we're taking this show on the road, and
- 1:23Speaker 1: now we know where Pedro. Put on some comfortable pants,
- 1:27Speaker 1: cause you're going down the slide, baby, Milwaukee. Here we
- 1:30Speaker 1: come Game one, seven point thirty Brewers hosting the Dodgers, Otani,
- 1:37Speaker 1: Mookie and Freddie coming there to face the mizz and Milwaukee.
- 1:42Speaker 1: It is going to be phenomenal. Curtis, you put on
- 1:45Speaker 1: that jersey, you played in that city. What are you
- 1:48Speaker 1: feeling for the boys in blue?
- 1:50Speaker 2: Oh? They are so excited over there, getting a chance
- 1:52Speaker 2: to not only celebrate for down thirteen, the recognition right.
- 1:57Speaker 2: So many people don't see or watch the Brewers throughout
- 2:00Speaker 2: the course of the year.
- 2:01Speaker 3: I even had colleagues texting me, going, how come they
- 2:03Speaker 3: don't get enough love? They got the best record in baseball,
- 2:06Speaker 3: all that, and they still have to go out there
- 2:08Speaker 3: and show you that, Hey, not only are we a
- 2:10Speaker 3: solid team, but we are a good team and have
- 2:12Speaker 3: the chance to be a great team.
- 2:14Speaker 2: But you don't get a chance to do that until
- 2:15Speaker 2: you keep winning. And they're in a position now to
- 2:18Speaker 2: advance with an opportunity to keep going.
- 2:20Speaker 1: The fans threw this man the Grishamarra a few years ago.
- 2:23Speaker 1: They face the buzzsaw braves. They can never break through.
- 2:26Speaker 1: They do now, Are they now going to be free
- 2:28Speaker 1: and clear taking on the Dodgers? Are those scary shadows
- 2:32Speaker 1: in the past?
- 2:32Speaker 4: Not at all. This is a This is a tale
- 2:35Speaker 4: of David and Goliath. Small market, the smallest market versus
- 2:39Speaker 4: one of the largest market, the average droves versus Hollywood stars.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I mean, you can ask.
- 2:46Speaker 4: In baseball versus the most dynamic and well paid team
- 2:51Speaker 4: and baseball and they're facing off for a chance to
- 2:54Speaker 4: go to the World Series. So if you love the underdog,
- 2:58Speaker 4: this is the ultimate underdog store A shame that no
- 3:01Speaker 4: one saw doing what they did.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I know one person who saw that the Brewers could
- 3:06Speaker 1: do this, and he said to you that, mister Milwaukee
- 3:12Speaker 1: yet And that's why I saved you for last. They
- 3:16Speaker 1: did it.
- 3:17Speaker 5: And you know why, because I faced so many teams
- 3:21Speaker 5: back when I was playing, and I have like these
- 3:25Speaker 5: senses that come to me about a team that would
- 3:29Speaker 5: probably make it difficult for me to get them out
- 3:31Speaker 5: in a consistent, you know way. And that's it. That's
- 3:35Speaker 5: the Milwaukee Brewers. And for the first time I can
- 3:38Speaker 5: tell you, and I'm gonna repeat this again, I don't
- 3:41Speaker 5: feel like they need a big bat. I don't feel
- 3:44Speaker 5: like they need anything else to be just literally any
- 3:48Speaker 5: team that includes the Dodgers. The Dodgers are vulnerable in
- 3:52Speaker 5: so many areas. Uh, the Milwaukee Brewers seem to have
- 3:57Speaker 5: the right ingredients inside that the average joes that they
- 4:01Speaker 5: having there, but they can also thrown around and be
- 4:04Speaker 5: above average joes. Like Murphy gets said.
- 4:08Speaker 1: What's unbelievable is they did not win this game like
- 4:11Speaker 1: the Brewers typically do. This is the only game this
- 4:13Speaker 1: season where they won where their only runs were from
- 4:16Speaker 1: solo home runs. And they came and they were big,
- 4:19Speaker 1: and they started the first inning. Let's take it through
- 4:22Speaker 1: those solo shots for the Milwaukee Brewers, jy Row. They
- 4:25Speaker 1: set the tone in the bottom of the first inning.
- 4:27Speaker 4: They definitely did. And we talked about urgency, and this
- 4:30Speaker 4: time it was the Cubs not scoring in the first
- 4:33Speaker 4: but Milwaukee with a solo being dong Giants. And for
- 4:37Speaker 4: a team that only hit one hundred and sixty six
- 4:39Speaker 4: on a gear that ranked twenty second in MLB, they
- 4:42Speaker 4: somehow this entire series at home at least said we
- 4:45Speaker 4: could play with the big boys, we can stretch it out,
- 4:47Speaker 4: and they did that and that proved crucial tonight.
- 4:50Speaker 2: The big thing I think is the literally home field
- 4:52Speaker 2: advantage you talk about, How is it really a thing? Well,
- 4:57Speaker 2: all the teams at home actually put up runs, they're pitching,
- 5:00Speaker 2: did exactly what they needed to, and they won.
- 5:02Speaker 1: The same thing happened tonight.
- 5:03Speaker 2: And you put up that big thing you talked about, Jimmy,
- 5:06Speaker 2: that zero, finally stopping the Cubs in the first inning,
- 5:10Speaker 2: allowing yourself to score first, to get the crowd into
- 5:13Speaker 2: it even more.
- 5:13Speaker 4: And would have been the theme of this series. The
- 5:17Speaker 4: team with the lead at the bottom of one wins
- 5:21Speaker 4: and it helps you tonight.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Pat Murphy is a star. He's someone that I think
- 5:26Speaker 1: everybody would love to play for. So I cannot wait.
- 5:28Speaker 1: We have not heard this yet. I don't know what
- 5:30Speaker 1: it sounds like. Here's Pet Murphy speaking to the team
- 5:33Speaker 1: in the locker room after the big w Let's take
- 5:35Speaker 1: a listen.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Together, get away over here, because you're gonna get there.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Guys, all year long, all year long, they called.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Us the average Joe's Okay, today you're the not so
- 5:53Speaker 4: freaking average Joe.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Yeah, let's bring it back memories for you guys.
- 6:03Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, but that's that's great because I've been
- 6:07Speaker 5: I've been there. I remember we will call the idiots
- 6:11Speaker 5: in Boston, but you guys were We were, but we
- 6:16Speaker 5: weren't the average idiots that you find. That that's a fact,
- 6:19Speaker 5: you know what.
- 6:20Speaker 4: That's the fact.
- 6:21Speaker 5: We look like idiots and we let the leaguing hugs and.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Bad hair and shakes and all that.
- 6:29Speaker 5: But man, when we got to the field, we did
- 6:31Speaker 5: exactly what these guys do, which is beat up on everybody,
- 6:35Speaker 5: play the game right, do what we need to do
- 6:37Speaker 5: to win, and then go on and just party like
- 6:41Speaker 5: it's nineteen eighty two when Bob Hucker was around.
- 6:45Speaker 6: So that's that's that's what they're doing right now. They're
- 6:49Speaker 6: they're not your average Joe when it comes to facing
- 6:53Speaker 6: them inside the white lines.
- 6:54Speaker 4: But Adam, it does get better and and.
- 6:56Speaker 6: Murphy deserves a lot of credit, especially if for what
- 7:00Speaker 6: you just said, Jimmy, you said that figuring out how
- 7:04Speaker 6: to get by the first inning was just the biggest
- 7:07Speaker 6: element in the game today, and you were Murphy. For
- 7:11Speaker 6: Murphy to actually pull that off by bringing McGill, his
- 7:15Speaker 6: former closer to start a game for the first time ever,
- 7:20Speaker 6: it's just one of the smartest.
- 7:22Speaker 5: Moves and the element of sorb price. It's just amazing.
- 7:27Speaker 5: That says a lot.
- 7:29Speaker 6: About why the Milwaukee Brewers are now in position to
- 7:32Speaker 6: knock down the Dodgers and go to the World Series.
- 7:35Speaker 1: You said that while miss Rowski threw one o three,
- 7:38Speaker 1: one oh four in Game two, you were hoping he
- 7:40Speaker 1: would get control. We saw on that first at bat,
- 7:43Speaker 1: second pitch home run Cubs. Oh no, But boy did
- 7:47Speaker 1: he settle in and he is going to be a
- 7:49Speaker 1: necessary weapon against the Dodgors.
- 7:51Speaker 5: Yes, they need him to be, and especially when they
- 7:54Speaker 5: were considering taking him out of the roster for this.
- 7:58Speaker 1: That's how rughica.
- 7:59Speaker 5: He came over and gave you seven innings of just
- 8:03Speaker 5: one run in this postseason against a real good team
- 8:06Speaker 5: like the Chicago Cubs. And I was hoping to see
- 8:11Speaker 5: how he was going to settle down, because in the
- 8:13Speaker 5: first game, even though he had success, he threw a
- 8:16Speaker 5: lot of balls, and I wanted him to be like
- 8:20Speaker 5: more in command of what he needed to do and
- 8:22Speaker 5: preserve his energy so that Murphy had the option to
- 8:25Speaker 5: do what he did, which was used Patrick and used
- 8:29Speaker 5: the rest of the guys to get by and then
- 8:32Speaker 5: hand it to rebe like he did.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Seeing that highlight made me realize something. The universe is sick.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Sometimes that brings things back. Miss Rowski unbelievable. In the
- 8:41Speaker 1: first half July twenty eighth, he's facing the Cubs, who
- 8:44Speaker 1: hits the ball off his shin say A Suzuki. He
- 8:47Speaker 1: went on the il for two weeks, came back and
- 8:50Speaker 1: was a mess. He comes in and faces say A Suzuki,
- 8:53Speaker 1: hits a home run, and then after that, no walks,
- 8:57Speaker 1: four innings, no more runs, shut some down. It's like
- 9:00Speaker 1: that part of his path is officially closed, and now
- 9:04Speaker 1: he moves on one picture that we will see maybe
- 9:07Speaker 1: in game one. Freddy Peralta just spoke with our Lauren Jabbara.
- 9:13Speaker 7: It's great, like I said, because he's especially.
- 9:16Speaker 1: On the group that we have this year.
- 9:19Speaker 7: Even even when we when we when we are having
- 9:23Speaker 7: bad moments, like we have said together, we have said
- 9:25Speaker 7: it's wrong, and I think that make us, make us
- 9:28Speaker 7: especially using how do.
- 9:29Speaker 2: You embrace the burn?
- 9:30Speaker 5: What do you do?
- 9:31Speaker 6: Like?
- 9:31Speaker 5: What am I supposed to do?
- 9:33Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't even know. I don't know,
- 9:36Speaker 1: I don't even know.
- 9:37Speaker 7: I know I know Mer said, today you guys were
- 9:40Speaker 7: above average Joes, but you've been above average all season.
- 9:43Speaker 1: What makes this team so special?
- 9:44Speaker 7: I think that we just we just enjoy all the
- 9:47Speaker 7: moments in here. Like I said, even when we have
- 9:50Speaker 7: bad times, we stay together and that makes a difference.
- 9:54Speaker 7: And you know, he's very especially when you have all
- 9:57Speaker 7: those guys that brought at each other. We pretend our
- 10:01Speaker 7: soul and we support each other. That's our important.
- 10:05Speaker 5: What makes these celebrations so special?
- 10:07Speaker 1: What's the best part? Everything is a special for me,
- 10:10Speaker 1: Everything is especial.
- 10:11Speaker 7: All the celebration are the special.
- 10:12Speaker 5: Well, this one is.
- 10:13Speaker 7: It makes me feel great, especially because I know that
- 10:17Speaker 7: the hard world that we haven't pulling together, and I
- 10:20Speaker 7: know that there's people that are not here with us,
- 10:23Speaker 7: like Bob Uker with us anymore here, but he is
- 10:26Speaker 7: seeing our heart and I know that he's watching or
- 10:29Speaker 7: enjoying it.
- 10:29Speaker 1: His spirit is definitely in this room. You could feel it. Freddy, Congratulations,
- 10:33Speaker 1: Go celebrate and joy it. Thank you so much.
- 10:35Speaker 5: Thank you
