- 1:10SPEAKER_01: They're sometimes short, sometimes a little bit longer, but it's more of a podcast about um I answer questions.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: I also um talk about pop culture references.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: I also give some thoughts that I have.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Um this year I'm hoping to branch out a little bit and to do some uh interviews with people.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: And it could be anybody.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: Uh A-list celebrities, that'd be great.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: B, C, D, E.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Are there such things as E-list celebrities?
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Anyways, people that um influence have uh some kind of influence status in the world, they don't have to be celebrities, they could be authors, artists, singers, etc., etc.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Amazing dads, amazing moms.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Um, I I just want to to uh I like to ask questions.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: It's kind of what I do in my job on the daily, and so I I would be interested in doing that.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: So if there's anyone that you think, hey, you should get this person on your podcast, or I have this person that should be on your podcast, or I know this person, um, you know, you can always email me, contact me at all my contacts on just Google Dr.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: David Simonson, and everything will pop up about me, and there's gonna be a way to contact me there.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: So I wanted to talk about today.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Um, there's this one thing that if you do this one thing, uh people would become attracted to you.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: And we're not talking physically attracted, we're just talking like you will exude this kind of aura that people will think that person I want to be around, that person's a great person.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna tell you why I thought of this.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: Um, I was just kind of scrolling through the news, and this article came up about this woman named Busy Phillips.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: Now, I don't know Busy, she'll probably never hear this podcast, and I'm not trying to tell Busy what to do, I'm just giving Busy an observation.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: So, Busy is a celebrity that had a talk show on the e-network.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: I've never watched it.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't know what she did with it, but apparently um it was a talk show on the e-network, and it must not have done so well because she got her talk show canceled.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Now the article went on to explain how um she found out about this show being canceled in a horrible way.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: She got off an airplane and her agent.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: I'm just I'm just laughing because like your typical person doesn't have an agent.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: So the this the story just kind of makes me laugh.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Anyways, sorry, let me compose myself.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: So she got off the airplane and her agent called her and said, Hey, your show is being canceled on the the e-network.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: Um, and so then her Instagram post went on to say how um she was hor she couldn't believe it, she she was crying, she to solve how she was feeling, um, she went out and had uh three drinks of tequila.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: I don't know if it was shots or what it was, but she drank alcohol, then she went and got a tattoo, um, cried some more, emailed, texted probably friends, and um told the world how horrible the e-network is.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: Um and and the tattoo, I can't say what the tattoo says because this is a kid-friendly show, um, but it was the F-word.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: She tattooed that on her foot.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: Um, and and then she posted a picture of um a letter her 11-year-old daughter wrote chastising the e-network and telling them how they sucked and they were horrible and blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: So I was I was kind of with her, like, I can understand that losing your job is an upsetting thing, but I've read enough articles for uh about celebrities losing um their TV shows and stuff, is uh to understand that it's this inevitable thing, right?
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: It's it's a money-driven business.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: And so if you are not getting viewers to your show and um you're not getting great ratings, they're gonna get rid of you.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Like that's kind of a well-known thing.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: And I'm not even a celebrity, and that's like something that I know.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: So this meltdown that this woman Busy Phillips had was a little bit confusing.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: But okay, set that all aside, okay?
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: Have your meltdown.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: You've got two million followers on Instagram.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: You just were talking about how you just got back from uh shooting a commercial for some company.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: Um, you're flying probably first class in your airplane.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, forget all that stuff, right?
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: Like, and then you're upset because you lose this gig that you had.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's understandable, but that's the way the world works.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: You you get and you lose, right?
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: That's how it works in that world.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Um the the thing that I couldn't handle, like like she's 40, I guess, and you know, she's complaining and just kind of telling her two million Instagram followers how horrible the e-network is, and how she's this injustice is being done to her, and wow, life is just so miserable, and they're just horrible, right?
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: So, so if she wants to do that, that's fine.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: The the problem that I had was her 11-year-old daughter, she she's praising essentially her 11-year-old daughter for um telling the e-network how horrible they are and what a bunch of losers, and et cetera, et cetera.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: Now I'm paraphrasing, but essentially her 11-year-old daughter was sticking up for her mom and um saying these horrible things about the e-network.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: The 11-year-old daughter has never worked for the e-network, as far as I know.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: Um, the I have no idea what the 11-year-old daughter does.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: I don't even think she has probably she probably doesn't have a job, right?
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: Um, she's parroting what she has, she sees her mother hurting, and so she parrots what her mother um is doing as a 40-year-old woman.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Um, here's why I have a problem with that.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: I think one of the things that um that people often do in our society is they look at things through this lens of boo-hoo, woe is me.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: And they don't look at things through the lens of gratefulness and gratitude.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: And that the gratefulness and gratitude is the thing that will make you attractive to people, right?
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: She had this this woman, busy Phillips, she had a good thing, right?
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: She had this talk show.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: I don't have a talk show.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: The most of the people in the world don't have a talk show, and so they don't get to live this life of a talk show celebrity.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Um, and so then she lost her talk show.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: That happens in the world.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: And so instead of saying, Wow, this was a great time, I really appreciate the opportunity that I had to do this, to influence people, to be a part of the of someone else's world, to be part of your world, instead of doing that and being grateful for what she got, she immediately went to this place of telling everyone how horrible the e-network is.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: The e-network wasn't horrible a month prior when she had her talk show, I don't think, but she loses her talk show and um now they're horrible.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: And and what I wanted to tell you is like when people do that, it gives you a little lens into what they're like, what their personality is like.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: Like I've had loss in my life, my wife has had loss in her life, we've lost babies, um, we almost lost our daughter to um cancer.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: Um, I've lost a job before.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: So so there's things like you listening to this, you've lost a job before, you've been broken up with before.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: And you have you always have a choice.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: You can choose to uh say, woe is me, uh, my life is horrible, this sucks, and then you can like demean people and you can blame people, etc.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: etc.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Or you can take this other path of this is hard, but I'm grateful for you know, fill in the blank, right?
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: I and now now I'm I'm saying this knowing that I'm not always grateful.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: I'll be very honest with you.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: But I've decided like I don't make resolutions, I do resolutions out of a joke more, but but I do make goals and I do make uh I do try to do things differently, and not just because the years change, but I get an idea about something, I think I want to change that in my life.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: And so I saw this and I kind of did some self-reflection, and I thought, am I grateful for things?
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: And I think a lot of times I'm not.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: It's so easy to take that path of um ungratefulness, bitterness, resentfulness.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: I'll show them and then get a tattoo that says F them on in your tattoo.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: Like that path is so destructive, it's ugly.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: No one wants to be around a person like that.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: The thing that will make you attractive to others, the thing that will make people want to be around you, is to hear you being grateful for things, to hear you say, I'm thankful for whatever it is.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: And so my encouragement to you today is can you start on the path um towards being grateful for things?
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: And maybe just one thing a day or one thing every two days, but at least start down that path of being grateful for things.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: It is so easy to look at what you don't have, to be jealous of others, to covet what others, what things other people have.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: That just again leads down a road of bitterness.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: It leads that people don't want to be around someone that's always complaining, people don't want to be around someone that's always bitter.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: Now, again, I don't know busy Phillips, I don't know her daughter.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: My my hope is that um someone close to Busy and the daughter can say, hey, be grateful for what you have, be grateful for being on earth one more day.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: I've known people that um are bitter and resentful, and they're not fun to be around.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: And hopefully you're not one of those people.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: Hopefully, you're one of those people that people want to be around because like I just feel good when I'm around so-and-so.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: I just feel better when I'm by someone by this other person.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: I know someone that's like this, and they just seem to have an uh aura about themselves, an atmosphere about themselves that you just go around them and they're just positive.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: They're just like thankful for the things that they have in their life.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: And I don't think it's something that just happens to us, I think it's something you have to actually work on.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: And so that means you need to set up reminders around your house, in your car, on your phone, like set up a daily reminder at nine o'clock to pop up.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: What are you grateful for today?
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: And when you start practicing like mindfulness around gratefulness, I guarantee you your life will change.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: People will want to be around you, people will start seeing a difference in your life.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: So I encourage you today to start this process of being grateful for things, and not just silly, not just like I'm grateful for spoons.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: I'm talking about being grateful for their relationships.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: When was the last time you told your partner that you were grateful for them listening to you?
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: When was the last time you told your child that you were grateful for them for the fun that they seem to have in life?
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: Things like that.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: Things that are deeper than just like, hey, how's it going?
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: What did you do at school today?
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: Nothing.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: Did you learn anything new?
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: No.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: Like that's typical stuff.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: I'm talking about getting outside of your rut and moving into a place where you can start practicing gratefulness and being a different person.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: So that's your challenge this year.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: Be a different person, practice gratefulness instead of practicing bitterness and resentment.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: Like the last thing, practicing bitterness and resentment, you don't actually have to practice, you just do it.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: The gratefulness is hard because you have to actually start training your mind to think differently.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: Um, human nature is just we're all dying, right?
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: That's that's kind of what's happening to us.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: And so it's easy to go down the route of woe is me.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: Oh, look at that person over there, they have things better than me.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: That's just it, you can do that without trying.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: What I'm encouraging you to do today is to try to start being grateful.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: If you have any questions about that, you can contact me, headshrinkinc at gmail.com or Google Dr.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: David Simonson.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: My website will pop up, Instagram will come up, and you can ask me lots of questions there.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: Hey, thank you for listening.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: We're heading into the weekend.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: Take the time this weekend to be grateful for something and tell someone that you're grateful for them.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: Have a great weekend, you can see it, and you can get a lot of money.
