- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up? Motherfucker's Hi? How are you my friends? How's
- 0:06Speaker 1: it going? Donald and I just played tennis? We did.
- 0:10Speaker 1: I'm hurting right now, are you sure? Yeah? I've been
- 0:13Speaker 1: where I'm on this real hard workout kick. You know
- 0:16Speaker 1: we lost weight. By the way, you look good. I
- 0:18Speaker 1: gotta get skinnier. I gotta get down a little bit more.
- 0:22Speaker 1: But I want I want you to know that I
- 0:23Speaker 1: see that you're looking good. Good work. I'm putting the working.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Like if I missed peloton, I'm going to the I
- 0:30Speaker 1: go all right, so look, I go to this gym
- 0:32Speaker 1: unbreakable performance. I gotta shout him out because I've been
- 0:35Speaker 1: going there for so long and they have an outdoor
- 0:37Speaker 1: facility right now that's really dope. And I've been, you know,
- 0:42Speaker 1: putting the work in lifting weights. You know. Uh, they're
- 0:46Speaker 1: you know, like I said, they're really safe. I've been
- 0:48Speaker 1: boxing and stuff. You know. I can't stay at home
- 0:52Speaker 1: and motivate myself enough to work out every day. So
- 0:56Speaker 1: the peloton is great. Cody. I love you, bro, Thank
- 1:00Speaker 1: you so yet. I don't know that Cody listens yet.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Done even if he doesn't, I love you, Bro, Thank
- 1:05Speaker 1: you so much. Like for real man, Cody is gonna
- 1:08Speaker 1: when it's all said and done, these Peloton instructors are
- 1:11Speaker 1: gonna be like Peloton famous man. That's real talk. I
- 1:14Speaker 1: really want to have it. I want to hang out
- 1:16Speaker 1: with Cody one day that great. Appreciate him. I appreciate him,
- 1:20Speaker 1: and I appreciate unbreakable performance. Thank you guys for it,
- 1:23Speaker 1: Thanks for helping me, you know, start this journey again. Joke,
- 1:28Speaker 1: I joke about it, and I say, you know, in
- 1:30Speaker 1: my next comeback, after this comeback, I'll get really ripped. Well,
- 1:33Speaker 1: you look good and I know that it's hard, and
- 1:36Speaker 1: I'm at it. I'm working at it two and I
- 1:38Speaker 1: gotta say that. So Donald is that person. Maybe you
- 1:41Speaker 1: listeners have a friend who cannot play tennis for years
- 1:44Speaker 1: and then come back and be doing like trick shots
- 1:46Speaker 1: behind his head, and everyone else that's been taking lessons
- 1:50Speaker 1: the whole time is like, oh Jesus, you played really
- 1:54Speaker 1: well today, man, the most consistent out of everyone. Time.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I want, I want m v P. According to Chris
- 1:59Speaker 1: our teacher, definitely Chris crab shout out. Definitely were m
- 2:03Speaker 1: v P today. You won a lot of your games.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I'm just in my head, you know, I have a
- 2:10Speaker 1: a sports tick. Is that it is that what you
- 2:13Speaker 1: call it? No, I'm what you call it when you
- 2:17Speaker 1: have a mind thing with my forehand. You saw like
- 2:19Speaker 1: I was running around my forehend to get to my
- 2:21Speaker 1: back hand because I'm just like in a my head
- 2:23Speaker 1: about my forehand. It's sucked up, but so I run
- 2:25Speaker 1: around it. And bizarrely, most people have more trouble with
- 2:28Speaker 1: your back hand my back hands consistent. You need to
- 2:31Speaker 1: work on your forehand. But I know, bro, I know,
- 2:34Speaker 1: but I'm telling you that I get into a groove
- 2:36Speaker 1: with it. You sound like country clubs country club snobs.
- 2:41Speaker 1: You need to focus on your forehead. But though appreciate
- 2:47Speaker 1: I thought the fans would appreciate that I'm talking about
- 2:49Speaker 1: sports for a second. I uh, you know, I just
- 2:53Speaker 1: there's times where I can hit it fine, I'm just
- 2:54Speaker 1: in my head about it. Blah blah blah. You gotta
- 2:56Speaker 1: you just gotta work on your forehand. You work on
- 2:58Speaker 1: your forehand. You're golden, dude. I know I'm gonna get good.
- 3:01Speaker 1: That was fun. I love Tennis. Um I gotta high.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I gotta start off the show just by telling everyone
- 3:07Speaker 1: to watch the bill. The Eilish documentary. It's on Apple
- 3:11Speaker 1: and it was amazing. I haven't seen it. It's incredible.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I knew I don't want anything about Bill the Eilish
- 3:18Speaker 1: other than you know her her hit songs and that
- 3:20Speaker 1: she won all those Grammys. This documentarian follows her. Our R. J.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Cutler is his name. He did a he's a famous documentarian,
- 3:29Speaker 1: and he followed her for a year, the Key year
- 3:32Speaker 1: where she like, there's footage of them recording in her
- 3:34Speaker 1: brothers Phineas's bedroom all the way through to them winning
- 3:39Speaker 1: all the Grammys. And I haven't I have a question,
- 3:42Speaker 1: but let me just tell you that, you know some
- 3:43Speaker 1: documentaries you feel like, oh, this is just a fucking
- 3:45Speaker 1: pr bullshit. She really gave the whole family gave this
- 3:49Speaker 1: documentarian such access and and it just is really special.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I love documentaries and I love music documentaries, and I'm
- 3:58Speaker 1: telling you all to watch this. And what an incredible
- 4:01Speaker 1: family she has. Her parents are incredible, her brother's incredible.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I just I've been thinking about it all day. It's
- 4:09Speaker 1: one of those I highly recommend it. How did they
- 4:12Speaker 1: know she was gonna blow up like that? Though, Like,
- 4:14Speaker 1: wouldn't they like, how would they bet? This is the
- 4:16Speaker 1: crazy thing. How do you document something like that before
- 4:24Speaker 1: you know what's going to be. I think no, because
- 4:26Speaker 1: I'll answer that because there was an album before that
- 4:28Speaker 1: was getting her insane traction, not the one that not
- 4:31Speaker 1: the one that made her a global name and one
- 4:35Speaker 1: hundred Grammys, but before she was becoming like everywhere, and
- 4:40Speaker 1: the kids, you know, young kids were just downloading and
- 4:42Speaker 1: streaming her song incessantly. She had a lot of her
- 4:44Speaker 1: Instagram followers were climbing like this, and so they obviously
- 4:48Speaker 1: knew something was cooking. So and you know, and you
- 4:50Speaker 1: see her, you see her. She's doing small venues, but
- 4:52Speaker 1: they're selling out and and then but she's literally the
- 4:56Speaker 1: whole album is made on a laptop and a piano
- 4:59Speaker 1: and mike in her brother's fucking tiny bedroom. She's talented also,
- 5:04Speaker 1: but he's you know, he's he won producer, he won
- 5:07Speaker 1: Producer of the Year. That you think about this was
- 5:09Speaker 1: its crazy about I love these stories, dude. They're they're
- 5:12Speaker 1: just a brother and sister. You know, they're just really
- 5:15Speaker 1: good friends. They love music. They've been playing music their
- 5:17Speaker 1: whole lives. Their parents got them into music. They're just
- 5:19Speaker 1: sitting in his bedroom writing songs and then this guy
- 5:22Speaker 1: wins Producer of the Year, beating out people in zillion
- 5:25Speaker 1: dollar studios with all the fancy musicians in the world.
- 5:28Speaker 1: And this young girl, she's seventeen years old when this
- 5:31Speaker 1: is being shot, and her voice, I had no idea.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I don't know enough about Billy Eilish, but
- 5:37Speaker 1: her voice is incredible, and he's the mastermind producer. They
- 5:42Speaker 1: write it together. I don't know. I sound like I'm
- 5:44Speaker 1: the press agent for this documentary, but I'm telling you,
- 5:47Speaker 1: and you can watch you. If you're listening and you
- 5:48Speaker 1: have teenagers, you can watch you with them. There's not
- 5:50Speaker 1: a single, you know, r rated thing in it, and
- 5:53Speaker 1: it's fucking awesome. And her parents are inspirational, like they're
- 5:57Speaker 1: so supportive, and it's just it's great. Speaking of tennis,
- 6:02Speaker 1: Richard Kind is an amazing tennis player and this show,
- 6:07Speaker 1: well he's only really good at his serve, but he's here.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Should we count in and then bring him in? Guys,
- 6:11Speaker 1: we have Richard Kind. Let's beat it up, all right?
- 6:14Speaker 1: Donald counting stories about sure, we made about a bunch
- 6:21Speaker 1: of nurses stories around around all right. We're very thrilled, everybody,
- 6:41Speaker 1: you know, we've been talking about Richard Kind. Let's bring
- 6:43Speaker 1: him in. Uh. We we love Richard Kind and we
- 6:45Speaker 1: finally got him. What are you laughing about, Daniel? Just what?
- 6:51Speaker 1: I'm sorry the message of the Joe els I'm sorry.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I know he said it to me. I just I'm sorry.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Richard is concerned his curse or on his computer will
- 7:00Speaker 1: work because they switched over to his tablet, so he
- 7:03Speaker 1: should be good. We can let him. I've been on
- 7:05Speaker 1: the phone with Richard while you guys were doing your
- 7:06Speaker 1: interesting I was wondering what all the faces were for.
- 7:10Speaker 1: You were like so nervous. I just assume she was
- 7:13Speaker 1: watching Rebels on the other Tad Richard Kind. Everybody living
- 7:22Speaker 1: fucking legend. Yeah, looking good too, guys, Richard. That's Joel
- 7:33Speaker 1: and Daniel, our producers. How are you, Richard Kind. I'm
- 7:40Speaker 1: gonna tell you. We've been doing this podcast and the
- 7:43Speaker 1: mantra of everyone is like, fuck all those other people,
- 7:46Speaker 1: forget that Bill Lawrence, bring me Richard Kind. Let me
- 7:49Speaker 1: tell you something. My friend Rick Builder and his son
- 7:54Speaker 1: Jeff Yea. You know, there's a podcast about Scrubs, and
- 7:59Speaker 1: you call them and tell them you want to be
- 8:01Speaker 1: on I go. They'll call if I call that's me me,
- 8:11Speaker 1: and that's me wanting attention. I said, you're so funny, Richard,
- 8:20Speaker 1: I guess gust of all. Let me tell you, I'm
- 8:22Speaker 1: very happy and thrilled to be on this. But it's
- 8:26Speaker 1: so nice to see you guys. It's good to see
- 8:28Speaker 1: you too. I love you. Guys. We played We played
- 8:32Speaker 1: golf together, Richard and I for a couple of holes. Actually,
- 8:36Speaker 1: you're a very good golfer. You I am not. You
- 8:39Speaker 1: take your time. I used to be a very good golfer.
- 8:42Speaker 1: I used to be very smart. There are lots of
- 8:45Speaker 1: things that have dissipated over the years. But wait, Richard,
- 8:48Speaker 1: are you genuinely good at tennis? Because in this episode
- 8:52Speaker 1: your service ridiculously on fire? In what episode? Um, we
- 8:57Speaker 1: are talking about the episode of Scrubs that we're talking about.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Did you watch it by any chance? I haven't seen Scrubs.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I haven't seen years. It's a great show. Well, don't
- 9:14Speaker 1: worry talking about are you Are you on a show
- 9:19Speaker 1: right now? You do a show right now? Yes, I
- 9:23Speaker 1: am the costco of acting all over the place and
- 9:29Speaker 1: I come see and if I'm honest, show you get
- 9:33Speaker 1: well paid. Right Yeah? Well yeah, but it's the guests
- 9:36Speaker 1: on the show. Oh we throw the habio. Oh you're
- 9:39Speaker 1: so bud, You're wonderful. Here are a couple of quarters,
- 9:45Speaker 1: like a little monkey with a cop Oh my god. Well, Richard,
- 9:49Speaker 1: what I'm saying is that you were on an episode
- 9:50Speaker 1: of You're on multiple but but when we were going
- 9:52Speaker 1: to focus on today, your your character hurt his Do
- 9:55Speaker 1: you remember this? Your character? And you think Donald funked
- 9:59Speaker 1: up your shoulder and and but you have in the
- 10:02Speaker 1: episode we cut to you serving and it's so good
- 10:04Speaker 1: that you throw it hits Johnny c McGinley and it
- 10:07Speaker 1: throws him against the back wall. Do you remember? That's
- 10:09Speaker 1: when I sort of do. I was a good tennis player,
- 10:15Speaker 1: but that was high school, and uh what what I
- 10:18Speaker 1: wasn't a good What I had was one shot because
- 10:21Speaker 1: I was a fat kid, and the ball would come
- 10:24Speaker 1: to me and I would hit a Foss Courts shot
- 10:26Speaker 1: that was pinpoint in the corner so that the guy
- 10:31Speaker 1: couldn't return it and I wouldn't have to run. I
- 10:35Speaker 1: had with every point that way, That's what I was
- 10:38Speaker 1: good at than that. But if I really had to reach,
- 10:41Speaker 1: I wasn't so agile. But I was Okay, Donald does
- 10:45Speaker 1: these trick shots. We we play, We just played today actually,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and he does these. He didn't do any today, Donald,
- 10:50Speaker 1: but he does these things where I didn't. I don't
- 10:52Speaker 1: even know what kind of spin it is. He like
- 10:54Speaker 1: loops around it like it's a lacrosse stick and the
- 10:56Speaker 1: ball you just do not You have no fucking chance
- 10:58Speaker 1: to touch him at Yes, it's top spin. It is
- 11:02Speaker 1: top spin. And Donald, you hit the ball, the golf
- 11:05Speaker 1: ball very far, just not straight right, just not straight.
- 11:10Speaker 1: That's because you're putting this spin on. You hit down
- 11:12Speaker 1: to the bottom and you turn it over. But God
- 11:14Speaker 1: only knows where it's going to be. Because if you
- 11:16Speaker 1: come over it, I know where it's going. If I
- 11:20Speaker 1: come over it, I know where it's going. But I
- 11:22Speaker 1: don't want it to go that way because you don't
- 11:24Speaker 1: want to do. You know it's gonna go into the
- 11:25Speaker 1: other fairway, but a long way into the other fairway.
- 11:28Speaker 1: But you're strong, you have a good a decent you know,
- 11:32Speaker 1: mobility and everything. But you've gotten better, Donald, haven't you?
- 11:35Speaker 1: Since you played Richard? Probably I've never played him in golf,
- 11:38Speaker 1: but I've played a few holes with him. I haven't
- 11:44Speaker 1: played in a couple of weeks. I played once. Yeah,
- 11:48Speaker 1: I played once. I was. I was for a while.
- 11:52Speaker 1: I was, you know, I was messing with Ron del
- 11:55Speaker 1: Barrio golf Tech. This dude, David uh Dave at Frank's
- 12:00Speaker 1: at Calabasas Country Club. Like, I've gone to a lot
- 12:03Speaker 1: of people to work on my swing. The lowest I've
- 12:05Speaker 1: gotten I shot a seventy one at Encino Balboa. I've
- 12:10Speaker 1: shot a seventy at uh at like courses. Those are
- 12:16Speaker 1: easy courses. Oh, no doubt. I'm just gonna say one.
- 12:22Speaker 1: It doesn't matter if you can shoot a seventy one,
- 12:24Speaker 1: seventy whatever. If you can shoot below seventy, you're a
- 12:28Speaker 1: good golfer. Well, I the best I've played at a
- 12:32Speaker 1: harder course like Rustic Canyon. I shot a eighty one
- 12:36Speaker 1: at Rustic Yeah yeah, yeah, you killby, You'll killby. I
- 12:40Speaker 1: had children. That'll kill your game. I moved to New
- 12:45Speaker 1: York and New York New York kills your game. That'll
- 12:48Speaker 1: kill your game. It was a game. I've been to
- 12:50Speaker 1: New York for over ten years. You can't go play.
- 12:53Speaker 1: But one of the reasons I moved from Los Angeles
- 12:57Speaker 1: was because I became addicted to the game and the
- 13:00Speaker 1: club that I play at, because you just go there
- 13:03Speaker 1: and you sit and you play, you have a drink
- 13:06Speaker 1: or anything like that. And I would get home to
- 13:08Speaker 1: my kids and I am falling asleep, like trying to
- 13:11Speaker 1: play with them, and and then uh, and I would
- 13:14Speaker 1: literally this is horrible because I love to act. But
- 13:19Speaker 1: I would say, if you can't get me the audition
- 13:23Speaker 1: before like eleven thirty, then I can't make it, or
- 13:28Speaker 1: until after three or four, because that's when I was
- 13:31Speaker 1: playing golf. So I would give up. What is in
- 13:34Speaker 1: essence jobs, I got news for you now that we're
- 13:37Speaker 1: on and everybody's gonna hear. You asked me, can we
- 13:42Speaker 1: switch this time from one o'clock when we take it
- 13:45Speaker 1: to two o'clock. Well, if I take it at two o'clock,
- 13:49Speaker 1: that means I got out to the club very late,
- 13:53Speaker 1: and I want to go play golf after this, you know,
- 13:56Speaker 1: I said, I said, I compromise, and I'll give him
- 13:59Speaker 1: one third. Well, thank you for we appreciate that. I know.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I know how I'm kidding. I'm not. No, you're not
- 14:06Speaker 1: You're not kidding. Donald Donald, how important it is. I
- 14:10Speaker 1: know how important it is. And yeah, and it's it's
- 14:12Speaker 1: still not day savings time yet. If it were, and
- 14:15Speaker 1: I could play at a eight, something goes down now
- 14:18Speaker 1: at six? All right, so will Richard. We gotta ask you,
- 14:22Speaker 1: because we always ask people when they come on. We
- 14:24Speaker 1: gotta go back to the beginning. Let's start at the
- 14:26Speaker 1: very beginning, very very good place test star. Um, how
- 14:34Speaker 1: did you you You don't have to go like give
- 14:36Speaker 1: us the novel version, but give us the cliff notes?
- 14:38Speaker 1: How did you get started in in being a working,
- 14:41Speaker 1: successful actor? Because you've been in nine zillion things. Um,
- 14:46Speaker 1: very fancy filmmakers and very fancy showrunners love you and
- 14:49Speaker 1: continue to cast you, and you have a career that
- 14:53Speaker 1: actors would dream of because you've had such longevity. I
- 14:58Speaker 1: will tell you I'm going to be humble and bragging
- 15:02Speaker 1: at the same time. I am the luckiest man in
- 15:06Speaker 1: show business because when I was a kid, Archie Bunker
- 15:12Speaker 1: and Adam West were two of the biggest stars and
- 15:15Speaker 1: heroes of who I wanted to be. Oh my god,
- 15:19Speaker 1: Carol O'Connor was magnificent, not just as Archie Bunker, but
- 15:24Speaker 1: I knew his stuff before and he he got pigeonholed
- 15:28Speaker 1: into being Archie Bunker, one of the most magnificent actors
- 15:32Speaker 1: who would never guess it. Adam West certainly was only Batman,
- 15:37Speaker 1: and it was my goal as an actor to not
- 15:40Speaker 1: be them or not have their career. I wanted to
- 15:45Speaker 1: be in as many things as I possibly could, in
- 15:48Speaker 1: in everything. I mean, I know, you've done Broadway, I've
- 15:51Speaker 1: done lots of shows. I'm probabaly and I before the pandemic,
- 15:55Speaker 1: would be in a show a year somewhere. You know,
- 15:58Speaker 1: nobody sees it, uh, you know, because it's a limited audience,
- 16:02Speaker 1: but it's theater. So I wanted to be in as
- 16:04Speaker 1: many things as I could. And when I was on
- 16:06Speaker 1: Spin City, everybody was going, Oh, you're gonna be the
- 16:08Speaker 1: breakout character. You'll be the breakout character. And I didn't
- 16:11Speaker 1: have any publicity. I didn't want. I did not want
- 16:14Speaker 1: to be known as Paul Lasseter, so I didn't do
- 16:17Speaker 1: a lot of publicity or anything. And I know this
- 16:22Speaker 1: sounds crazy. I have the career that I wanted. I
- 16:28Speaker 1: really do I get to do. I've done opera, I
- 16:32Speaker 1: do radio, I do, I do sitcoms. I do. I'm
- 16:36Speaker 1: gonna be and I'm doing a movie coming up in
- 16:39Speaker 1: New Mexico where it is not funny at all, and
- 16:42Speaker 1: I'm playing a gangster. It's fantastic. The only thing is
- 16:48Speaker 1: that with more fame comes picking of roles. I can
- 16:53Speaker 1: pick a choose roles. I'll get offered more roles, or
- 16:57Speaker 1: at least get to audition for more roles, because being
- 17:00Speaker 1: a star makes a project that much more uh easy
- 17:06Speaker 1: to finance. And I'm not exactly a star. I mean,
- 17:09Speaker 1: people don't say, oh, a Richard Karne movie, I gotta go.
- 17:13Speaker 1: You know. They may say while they're watching it, oh
- 17:16Speaker 1: I like that guy, but they will not run out
- 17:18Speaker 1: of their house to go see. But but you're saying,
- 17:22Speaker 1: but you're saying, you you there was a fork in
- 17:25Speaker 1: the road, and you chose that path. I wish I
- 17:28Speaker 1: could say it was an absolute fork in the road.
- 17:30Speaker 1: It was not. It was a realization. Well no, I mean,
- 17:34Speaker 1: I mean, just for example, you could you know, for example,
- 17:36Speaker 1: you're on Spin City. You're saying I chose not to
- 17:38Speaker 1: do but listen, you could have milked the funk out
- 17:40Speaker 1: of that. Well, I guess I could have. I don't.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I would not have been a star. I might have
- 17:44Speaker 1: had more fame. It's just I did not want to
- 17:46Speaker 1: be pigeonholed into that roll. But but so so I
- 17:51Speaker 1: don't don't think I could. But also look at who
- 17:54Speaker 1: you're talking to. I will not be the lead of
- 17:58Speaker 1: anything of any of any movie and maybe even TV show.
- 18:02Speaker 1: And I can be a leader in a play because
- 18:05Speaker 1: the economic consequences of a play aren't as strong as
- 18:08Speaker 1: a movie or a TV show. But you gotta get
- 18:11Speaker 1: a good looking guy. You gotta get somebody who is
- 18:14Speaker 1: I don't want to say middle of the road, but
- 18:16Speaker 1: but somebody who is appealing that you want to turn
- 18:19Speaker 1: tune into. I'm a satellite character, always proud to be
- 18:24Speaker 1: a satellite character. You don't know who you are. You
- 18:27Speaker 1: sound like a producer, and I'm gonna be when you
- 18:29Speaker 1: when you talk like that. But I'm I tend to
- 18:32Speaker 1: agree with you, and I tend to agree with you
- 18:35Speaker 1: as of late late in my life, as of recently,
- 18:39Speaker 1: as of actually this morning, um, I was watching I
- 18:44Speaker 1: was watching Vandavision right, and everybody knows this about me.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I want to be in Star Wars. I want to
- 18:51Speaker 1: be in Marvel. I even think Star Wars and Marvel. No,
- 18:54Speaker 1: I want to be in that. So I've said that's right,
- 18:57Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure. But so I've aspired my in my
- 19:01Speaker 1: whole acting career to be in those movies now here's
- 19:05Speaker 1: a thing, or in in those TV shows. Now here's
- 19:07Speaker 1: the thing. What happens? If I get it? Then what
- 19:10Speaker 1: do I aspire to be after that? You know what
- 19:12Speaker 1: I mean? In other words, be careful of what comes true,
- 19:16Speaker 1: because because that then well you're wrong. Okay, you're wrong. Okay.
- 19:22Speaker 1: When I was a kid, I had three dreams. Now,
- 19:26Speaker 1: most kids want to be like Mick Jagger or or
- 19:29Speaker 1: or play center field for the Yankees or something. Mine was.
- 19:32Speaker 1: I wanted to be in a Stanley Kubrick movie, a
- 19:35Speaker 1: Woody Allen movie, and a an original Stephen Someheim how
- 19:40Speaker 1: Prince musical. Stanley Kubrick's Dead Woody Allen wasn't hiring me,
- 19:48Speaker 1: and I love this for Stephen so some Time How
- 19:50Speaker 1: Prince Musical and got it and I was the god.
- 19:55Speaker 1: I was the lead. It was the dream of a lifetime.
- 20:00Speaker 1: And I sing but not well enough to be in
- 20:02Speaker 1: a sun Time musical. But he likes actors better than singers,
- 20:05Speaker 1: and I sang well enough to do his stuff. It's unbelievable.
- 20:09Speaker 1: And Sunheim and Prince split in two after Merrily We
- 20:14Speaker 1: Roll Along, and Harold Prince didn't didn't direct any of
- 20:18Speaker 1: his plays anymore. They happened to got back to get
- 20:21Speaker 1: back together, and I did it. And this was over
- 20:25Speaker 1: ten years ago, and I continue to work. I work
- 20:29Speaker 1: so much that I did a Woody Allen movie which
- 20:34Speaker 1: I'm really proud of. It's not a huge, great part,
- 20:37Speaker 1: but I was part of it. I almost was with Zach.
- 20:40Speaker 1: I know you were I I have to admit, with
- 20:43Speaker 1: all due respect to the gentleman who got the role,
- 20:45Speaker 1: I was hoping that it was going to be you.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Richard was up for the part of in Bullets over Broadway.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Because Richard, I have to say, and I've said this
- 20:54Speaker 1: on the podcast many times, I know what you're saying
- 20:57Speaker 1: about being a satellite character. I one of those people
- 21:00Speaker 1: when I see your face, and you work a lot,
- 21:02Speaker 1: so I see your face all the time. I a
- 21:05Speaker 1: giant smile comes across my face. If I had if
- 21:08Speaker 1: I was not in this business at all and just
- 21:10Speaker 1: a fan of acting, I would I I would just
- 21:13Speaker 1: be I. I would just be a giant fan of yours.
- 21:16Speaker 1: I just think that you are so talented and so funny.
- 21:20Speaker 1: I know that you do drama as well, But when
- 21:22Speaker 1: I just see you and you could say in this
- 21:24Speaker 1: and Scrubs, you say one sentence and I just started
- 21:27Speaker 1: giggling for a Yeah, there's I saw you in the
- 21:35Speaker 1: show that I've spoken about here before. UM called the
- 21:38Speaker 1: other the other two? Is that? Are you on that
- 21:43Speaker 1: you don't even remember? You do so many shows you
- 21:44Speaker 1: don't remember your you're somebody's agent. Uh. And it was
- 21:49Speaker 1: a small show, Richard. I love the show. I'm sure
- 21:52Speaker 1: they're gonna make I think it'll be back. It's back,
- 21:55Speaker 1: I think without me. But I start of a one
- 22:00Speaker 1: joke conceit and it had run its course. So I
- 22:03Speaker 1: don't blame you. My point is, but this morning, when
- 22:06Speaker 1: watching wand Division, I was like, why am I so
- 22:09Speaker 1: worried about being on all of this? I'm a working actor.
- 22:13Speaker 1: I have so many credits behind me. Now, maybe just
- 22:18Speaker 1: focus on what I'm good at and if it comes,
- 22:21Speaker 1: it comes, You know what I mean. I enjoy being
- 22:23Speaker 1: a fan of it too, you know, so maybe just
- 22:26Speaker 1: enjoy the fandom. And you are right, But first of all,
- 22:32Speaker 1: you're really good, or you wouldn't have the career you have.
- 22:36Speaker 1: The second thing is maybe we're not always great, m
- 22:42Speaker 1: but we're never bad anymore because we've been around. You've
- 22:47Speaker 1: done how many episodes of Scrubs did you deal? Over?
- 22:49Speaker 1: A hundred and something? And if you're not good bye now. Yeah.
- 22:54Speaker 1: If you don't know how to work a camera, if
- 22:56Speaker 1: you don't know how to get the tone of a
- 22:59Speaker 1: scene or parts the script and deliver what the writer
- 23:03Speaker 1: wants you, then then then you're not thinking I'm an idiot.
- 23:08Speaker 1: And if that's I'm saying, you're absolutely so you can
- 23:12Speaker 1: get into into something and you've got a career that
- 23:16Speaker 1: a backlog of stuff that people can say, oh, he's
- 23:19Speaker 1: more than justice and Mike, my friend Michael Boltman, you
- 23:23Speaker 1: know Michael Boatman. He he says, we are at the
- 23:28Speaker 1: point in our career of what you guys are certainly
- 23:33Speaker 1: that we will always be better than good. We will
- 23:37Speaker 1: always deliver. There might be some who will be great,
- 23:40Speaker 1: and there might or will it will be better. There
- 23:43Speaker 1: might be certain roles that we will be great in
- 23:46Speaker 1: and we were not able to achieve greatness, but we
- 23:49Speaker 1: will always deliver because we're good, which is good. It's
- 23:54Speaker 1: not that we were for some people are just blessed uh,
- 23:59Speaker 1: you know some people, well you know people with a
- 24:01Speaker 1: smoldering lust and and sexuality. I disagree. I disagree, however,
- 24:09Speaker 1: but those are gifts somehow. But we have amassed a
- 24:14Speaker 1: talent and a and a credibility and and and a
- 24:18Speaker 1: facility of how to do our job, and we'll just
- 24:22Speaker 1: be fine. Do you still have the hunger Richard? Like
- 24:25Speaker 1: when you when you when someone says we want you
- 24:27Speaker 1: to read and and and uh, and you get and
- 24:30Speaker 1: you get the script and it's a really good part.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Do you do you find yourself going, oh, should I
- 24:35Speaker 1: want to work on this one? I really want this
- 24:38Speaker 1: all right? I got a couple of answers for you.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Yes I do. And it's the silliest thing that makes
- 24:42Speaker 1: me jump up and down because because I was actually,
- 24:46Speaker 1: as of this time, I was offered something yesterday that
- 24:51Speaker 1: was more money than I've ever made in my life,
- 24:56Speaker 1: more money than ever. I don't make that money, but
- 24:59Speaker 1: this was more and I turned it down because two
- 25:05Speaker 1: weeks in a quarantine and then being on the set
- 25:10Speaker 1: of a very good script. But I was Parsley. I
- 25:14Speaker 1: was the the overpaid extra. I had one decent scene
- 25:18Speaker 1: that was maybe a page and a half through pages.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Otherwise I'm just part of dinner family where I have
- 25:25Speaker 1: one line and you gotta be away from your family
- 25:27Speaker 1: for that, and I would I would kill myself that
- 25:30Speaker 1: that would really make me unhappy. It would have made
- 25:33Speaker 1: me unhappy. Forgive me in Bullets over Broadway, because that
- 25:36Speaker 1: was I didn't have a song and the part was
- 25:40Speaker 1: really chopped down from what it was in the movie,
- 25:43Speaker 1: and I was it was although I haven't the love
- 25:46Speaker 1: the production, Well, then I give him the song at
- 25:48Speaker 1: the end of Banana song. No, that Banana song was
- 25:52Speaker 1: started by somebody else, but um. And also the thing
- 25:55Speaker 1: with that contract was I didn't know if if you
- 25:58Speaker 1: were did you hear any you would have been known
- 26:00Speaker 1: as a year everyone, no matter who you were, you
- 26:02Speaker 1: had to sign up for a year. And I was like,
- 26:05Speaker 1: what a year? And I was gonna I was going
- 26:08Speaker 1: to pass on it because I was. But my friend
- 26:10Speaker 1: was like, bro, like, what are you talking about. You're
- 26:13Speaker 1: not gonna pass on starring in a Woody Allen Broadway
- 26:17Speaker 1: musical and Susan Stroman and you were challenged every night. Yeah,
- 26:25Speaker 1: it was very hard, truly challenged every night. You know
- 26:27Speaker 1: what I was thinking about this last night Um, this
- 26:30Speaker 1: is I guess a bit of a non sequitor. But
- 26:32Speaker 1: I was thinking about just in terms of the theater,
- 26:35Speaker 1: and I was thinking, you know, you know, most of
- 26:37Speaker 1: our listeners aren't in the entertainment industry, Richard. So I
- 26:40Speaker 1: sometimes just explained that in the theater world, in the
- 26:43Speaker 1: New York theater world, Uh, really, whether the show is
- 26:47Speaker 1: successful or not comes down to the review of the
- 26:49Speaker 1: New York Times. It used to. It doesn't anymore, but
- 26:52Speaker 1: it used to. Okay, well, all I'll tell you is
- 26:55Speaker 1: book did I gotta tell you that Bullo was supposed
- 26:59Speaker 1: to run. My Trek was for a year and and Richard,
- 27:02Speaker 1: I'm sure you've been through this in Donald's Done Done
- 27:04Speaker 1: theater too. But you you're playing to preview houses, meaning
- 27:08Speaker 1: the critics aren't allowed to come yet you're working out
- 27:10Speaker 1: the kinks. We're playing a sold out houses in a
- 27:13Speaker 1: giant theater, was sold out that we have to stop
- 27:17Speaker 1: the show because they're laughing so hard. We have to.
- 27:21Speaker 1: There was one moment they would give it for Nick,
- 27:23Speaker 1: for for the late great Nick Cordero. They would give
- 27:25Speaker 1: a standing ovation in the middle of the show for
- 27:27Speaker 1: a dance number. We were on fire. We open that night,
- 27:33Speaker 1: the night you open it, like midnight, the reviews came out.
- 27:36Speaker 1: The Times didn't destroy it, but was met and um.
- 27:41Speaker 1: The next night it was like golfers claps everyone everyone,
- 27:46Speaker 1: this is what's so fucked up about it. Everyone coming
- 27:49Speaker 1: into that theater now went, oh, this isn't that good
- 27:53Speaker 1: because Brent Brandley didn't love it, And now we're gonna
- 27:56Speaker 1: watch it differently, and you can. If you're in the play,
- 27:59Speaker 1: you're like, what the funk happened? We haven't changed anything,
- 28:03Speaker 1: but they had just been conditioned that this is not good.
- 28:06Speaker 1: It's horrible. In fact, what it is, what it really is,
- 28:09Speaker 1: is is a review could make or break the success
- 28:12Speaker 1: of a play. But now a review can make or
- 28:17Speaker 1: break the audience's attitude towards a play, and that that's horrible.
- 28:24Speaker 1: It's because I never I love the theater my it's
- 28:26Speaker 1: my favorite thing in the world, and I and I
- 28:28Speaker 1: and I get so much joy out of it. I
- 28:31Speaker 1: never read a review before I go because I want
- 28:35Speaker 1: to experience the play a new Of course, if you're
- 28:37Speaker 1: into the theater community, you hear the buzz of oh,
- 28:39Speaker 1: everyone's talking about this show, but I the last thing
- 28:41Speaker 1: I want is someone telling me, oh, this scene sucks.
- 28:45Speaker 1: It's funny. There was one big number. There was a
- 28:46Speaker 1: hot dog number, if you recall, and it was so silly.
- 28:49Speaker 1: They were dancing hot dogs. It was it was just
- 28:51Speaker 1: a giant dick joke for but it was hilarious and
- 28:54Speaker 1: the audience would be you could look and you'd see
- 28:56Speaker 1: them holding their bellies, and that next and that next
- 28:59Speaker 1: night it was like, that's just terrible. It's terrible. Well,
- 29:03Speaker 1: they certainly had it out for Woody, but what's unusual
- 29:07Speaker 1: is they had it out for stro and that's she
- 29:11Speaker 1: doesn't deserve that. Yeah, I think that Susan Stroman um
- 29:15Speaker 1: you know if for those of you not in the know,
- 29:17Speaker 1: is is very, very a list a huge musical theater
- 29:21Speaker 1: director in New York, and she her first giant hit.
- 29:25Speaker 1: I believe Richard was the producers, right producers. Yeah, yeah,
- 29:29Speaker 1: And it almost felt like there was animosity towards her,
- 29:31Speaker 1: like how dare you be that successful? Absolutely? Yeah, And
- 29:34Speaker 1: she works the hardest. You've never met anybody so loyal.
- 29:38Speaker 1: She does everything from ballet to the opera, to to
- 29:41Speaker 1: uh to the musicals. She's she even did the movie
- 29:46Speaker 1: of the Producers, which did deserve the dreadful reviews it got. However,
- 29:53Speaker 1: she is great. You did the producers, didn't you? I did?
- 29:58Speaker 1: I'm Broadway and at the Hollywood bawl. I have a question,
- 30:02Speaker 1: what is this? What is this rule? Though? Now? I
- 30:06Speaker 1: don't like? This is the one thing I do not
- 30:07Speaker 1: like about Broadway. If you dare you? How dare you?
- 30:12Speaker 1: The only thing way you're talking about? Yes, these people
- 30:15Speaker 1: need These people need our support right now, not any criticism.
- 30:19Speaker 1: This is the only thing when it comes to Tony Awards,
- 30:21Speaker 1: how comes somebody like Let's say, let's say Zack did
- 30:25Speaker 1: Bullets over Broadway and he wins the Tony for Bullets
- 30:28Speaker 1: over Broadway, then leaves. Then somebody else comes in, he
- 30:31Speaker 1: does bullets over Broadway. Why can't that person win and
- 30:36Speaker 1: and and so what if they Zack won, his ego
- 30:39Speaker 1: isn't gonna be heard If that person wins, if that
- 30:41Speaker 1: person gets nominated, the replacement is even better. Sometimes there
- 30:47Speaker 1: is talk, Richard, I I at least heard, but you
- 30:49Speaker 1: might know of them creating a category for best replacement, right,
- 30:53Speaker 1: I believe that should be done. However, every once in
- 30:56Speaker 1: a while there is simply a role that can't beat,
- 31:01Speaker 1: Like if if Fiddler around the Roof is gonna go on,
- 31:04Speaker 1: how to Have You is always gonna win, or or
- 31:07Speaker 1: Max biala Stock and the producers, they're always going to
- 31:10Speaker 1: win because it's the role. Right. Also, sometimes Richard, what
- 31:16Speaker 1: you're saying is true that and and with no disrespect
- 31:19Speaker 1: to the person that originated the role, someone might come
- 31:22Speaker 1: in and be like revelatory. Absolutely, And I was talking
- 31:25Speaker 1: about this the other day. Um the somebody said his
- 31:29Speaker 1: most exciting UH theater experiences was seeing Richard Burton do
- 31:34Speaker 1: the original cast of Equis. I said, Richard Burton did
- 31:38Speaker 1: not create the role, but he did go into it.
- 31:41Speaker 1: And my guess is he was better than the original
- 31:43Speaker 1: guy because he was Richard Burton. So so, but don't
- 31:49Speaker 1: I think you are correct? I think I don't think
- 31:52Speaker 1: it's a bad thing. You shouldn't take away from the
- 31:54Speaker 1: five original nominees because putting up a show sometimes what
- 32:00Speaker 1: they do helps create the character is so good. But
- 32:05Speaker 1: once the characters established, you are right A but you
- 32:09Speaker 1: can with it for a revival that only that's the
- 32:13Speaker 1: only happen Yeah, but then it has to next talk
- 32:16Speaker 1: about I don't but I like I like the revival
- 32:19Speaker 1: also because it still has to go through the same
- 32:22Speaker 1: work that the original did. You gotta started small theater,
- 32:24Speaker 1: then it has to get to a bigger theater. Then
- 32:26Speaker 1: that's I like that. I do like I could talk.
- 32:28Speaker 1: By the way, we've decided this, this episode is called
- 32:31Speaker 1: the Conversation with Richard Kind because that's what it is.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Everybody and I could talk to you about so many things.
- 32:36Speaker 1: You're so knowledgeable about a lot of things. You have
- 32:39Speaker 1: to wait. One thing that I want to get to Wait. Wait.
- 32:43Speaker 1: This is called wait, Richard pause. This is called a tease.
- 32:46Speaker 1: We're gonna be right back after this break. But I
- 32:49Speaker 1: have something to say. I know, but I've gotten ching
- 32:51Speaker 1: the audience. I'm doing a drive by of their proverbial
- 32:55Speaker 1: genitalia and we'll be right back you and we're back.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Go ahead. What were you saying, Well, I'm fault because
- 33:08Speaker 1: I just had a huge meal and now after that,
- 33:14Speaker 1: pay jeez, Louise, I hope, I hope you remember what
- 33:17Speaker 1: you were gonna say. Okay, what I wanted to say.
- 33:20Speaker 1: I mean, you talked about Uh, do I get excited
- 33:23Speaker 1: about a script or are excited about a part? Yes?
- 33:26Speaker 1: I do, I certainly do. Or you pray that you
- 33:29Speaker 1: have an opportunity to play that part. I'm gonna say
- 33:33Speaker 1: something that that might be interesting to you guys. Or
- 33:37Speaker 1: I'm one of the idiots that likes auditioning. Really, why
- 33:43Speaker 1: what a couple of reasons. Number one, as an actor,
- 33:49Speaker 1: I like to play all different kinds of roles. I
- 33:52Speaker 1: may not be I may not be hired, but for
- 33:55Speaker 1: ten minutes, I got to play that role. And I
- 33:59Speaker 1: can't what alone in the bathroom. I'm not going to
- 34:02Speaker 1: invite friends over and go, hey, listen to me, do this,
- 34:05Speaker 1: Listen to me do Willie Loman, because you know just here,
- 34:08Speaker 1: you know, I'll give you a sandwich, and I would
- 34:11Speaker 1: come to see you do something I'd love to do.
- 34:15Speaker 1: But but but the thing is, you need an after
- 34:17Speaker 1: needs an audience, and even if it's a kid with
- 34:20Speaker 1: a camera, you're still performing. So I happened to appreciate it. Uh.
- 34:27Speaker 1: The other thing is is um, I like being nervous.
- 34:33Speaker 1: I like the jitters of like an opening night. That's
- 34:38Speaker 1: fun for me. I know I'm not gonna die, I
- 34:42Speaker 1: know that my life is not on the line. I
- 34:44Speaker 1: know nothing's gonna happen to my kids. But I get nervous,
- 34:47Speaker 1: like being on a roller coaster can be fun. And
- 34:51Speaker 1: so you're going in front of important people. You make
- 34:54Speaker 1: it a job. This could be the job that makes
- 34:56Speaker 1: you a huge amount of money, brings you fame, and
- 35:00Speaker 1: you might be Matt Terry in friends you don't know.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Uh so, who knows what this audition is going to
- 35:06Speaker 1: bring or that the person that you're auditioning for may
- 35:09Speaker 1: become a good friend. Whatever it is. But you're nervous.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Things around the line A good way to live. I
- 35:17Speaker 1: never heard it put like that, but I heard the nervous.
- 35:19Speaker 1: I heard the nervous part put like that. I've never
- 35:22Speaker 1: heard the actors need to perform. Look at it as
- 35:24Speaker 1: a room to perform. I do. Oh, it's an opportunity.
- 35:27Speaker 1: And that's that's such a golf analogy too. That's such
- 35:31Speaker 1: a golf analogy, dude. But it's an opportunity. Here's here's
- 35:35Speaker 1: another crazy thing that if I'm teaching, which I don't
- 35:39Speaker 1: do a lot of but I have, when you go
- 35:42Speaker 1: in for an audition, you are going, oh, dear God,
- 35:46Speaker 1: let me get this role. Please, let me be good,
- 35:48Speaker 1: Please let me be great. I don't go in that way.
- 35:51Speaker 1: I go in and I see six people who all
- 35:55Speaker 1: want to make Larry David money. They all want the
- 35:58Speaker 1: successive side field. They all want the success of curb
- 36:01Speaker 1: your enthusiasm. That's what they want. They want money, they
- 36:04Speaker 1: want success. They don't care whether I get the role.
- 36:08Speaker 1: They want money. And I go in saying, if, and
- 36:12Speaker 1: you have to believe this, you have to believe you're
- 36:15Speaker 1: the right actor for the role. But if I, if
- 36:17Speaker 1: I believe that, which a lot of times I do,
- 36:19Speaker 1: I can do this. I go in with the mindset of, Guys,
- 36:26Speaker 1: I'm going to help you make a lot of money.
- 36:31Speaker 1: You better if when you cast me, you better cast
- 36:35Speaker 1: around me as good as me, because I'll help you
- 36:40Speaker 1: make money. I'm going to help make this thing great.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Don't worry. I got your back talk. But most people
- 36:49Speaker 1: go in going, oh, I gotta get this, Oh I
- 36:51Speaker 1: got this role. If you go in with the with
- 36:53Speaker 1: the feeling of I'm going to help you make the success,
- 36:58Speaker 1: that takes all the pressure off of you. Yeah, Richard,
- 37:00Speaker 1: I love that. And I have to say from when
- 37:02Speaker 1: I'm directing, I learned a lot about auditioning when I
- 37:05Speaker 1: was directing. Because you sit you think that being on
- 37:08Speaker 1: the other side of the table is fun. It's fun
- 37:10Speaker 1: for about thirty five minutes, and then it's really grueling
- 37:14Speaker 1: and stressful because all you're thinking is funk, We're not
- 37:17Speaker 1: going to find this guy or this gal. So what
- 37:20Speaker 1: I always say to actors is you need to I mean,
- 37:23Speaker 1: you're just brilliant. I'm gonna steal it. But I also say, there,
- 37:27Speaker 1: you don't know this. They're rooting for you. They want,
- 37:30Speaker 1: they're dying for you to be good. If you're great,
- 37:33Speaker 1: they're done great. If you're great, they're gonna make money
- 37:37Speaker 1: if you're good and be good for yourself. Don't Yes,
- 37:42Speaker 1: they're they're saying, dear God, give me somebody who's good.
- 37:45Speaker 1: I agree with you. Now I'm gonna bring up something
- 37:47Speaker 1: that you're gonna hate. But you know that I'm gonna
- 37:49Speaker 1: bring it up. When you were doing going my way style,
- 37:56Speaker 1: I auditioned for the bank or at the beginning, and
- 38:00Speaker 1: I did not have and I only went on tape
- 38:02Speaker 1: and I did not have. I remember not being not
- 38:05Speaker 1: feeling good about it. I remember it, and I, of
- 38:11Speaker 1: course you care whether or not to get it. I
- 38:12Speaker 1: think I requested you come in for it. Okay, good
- 38:15Speaker 1: being what I wanted to do. Let's not get the
- 38:19Speaker 1: role I wanted to do. I wanted to impress Zack.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Oh my god, that's what I wanted to do. Now,
- 38:26Speaker 1: the guy you hired happened to be a friend of
- 38:28Speaker 1: mine and he's great, it's wonderful. Uh and I do
- 38:34Speaker 1: you do you mind not getting a role? Oh? Yeah,
- 38:36Speaker 1: it happens, But that that was my mindset and it
- 38:41Speaker 1: could have gotten in my way of doing a good job. Well,
- 38:44Speaker 1: I gotta say that. What I think is, I recall
- 38:47Speaker 1: I asked you to come in because I literally when
- 38:50Speaker 1: I when I'm casting something and it's a particularly a
- 38:53Speaker 1: funny part, I'm like, well, who are the funny people
- 38:56Speaker 1: that I like working with? I agree with? And you're
- 38:59Speaker 1: at the top of that list. Um, and uh, but yeah,
- 39:02Speaker 1: I I I really like And I'm sure there's a
- 39:06Speaker 1: lot of actors listening, who who who? This is? This
- 39:10Speaker 1: is really useful advice. The audition process. We've all been
- 39:13Speaker 1: groomed our whole lives to be like and we do it.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Oh shit, I'm nervous. Oh shit, come on, please come on, God,
- 39:18Speaker 1: come on, Universe, give this. But it really comes down
- 39:21Speaker 1: to not walking in that room terrified, walking in that
- 39:24Speaker 1: room with your shoulders back going, guys, let me let
- 39:27Speaker 1: me help you. I'm here to do this. Let me
- 39:29Speaker 1: help you. I'm not necessarily saying that you can't say
- 39:32Speaker 1: no performance it. Let's just be clear, yes, yes, Actors,
- 39:37Speaker 1: Please don't walk in the room and say you're looking.
- 39:39Speaker 1: I'm here. You don't say it out loud. You go,
- 39:42Speaker 1: you don't say hey, fuckers, you better cast. This is
- 39:50Speaker 1: a good segue into can you tell us about Spince?
- 39:53Speaker 1: Your audition for Spin City? And and and and Bill
- 39:56Speaker 1: and how all that went? I got a great story this.
- 40:00Speaker 1: This will take about five minutes. Great story you can
- 40:02Speaker 1: you can take an hour. Go ahead, time. He's got
- 40:06Speaker 1: a tea time? Yes, what we're talking about me? So
- 40:09Speaker 1: I guess I have a little only I'll only play
- 40:12Speaker 1: eight homes if I can keep talking about being tell
- 40:17Speaker 1: me how good I am? Richard Richard Richard only as
- 40:21Speaker 1: a tea time if we're talking about things unrelated to him.
- 40:26Speaker 1: All right, So uh, Gary David Goldberg had a show
- 40:31Speaker 1: called Champs. It was about It was sort of like
- 40:34Speaker 1: that champon Sason. It was it was sort of based
- 40:37Speaker 1: on his life. It was one coach and five guys
- 40:40Speaker 1: who were best friends, of which Gary does have that life.
- 40:43Speaker 1: He he had his best friends who were a basketball
- 40:46Speaker 1: team from when he was in high school. So he
- 40:50Speaker 1: made a sitcom about that club Champs, and I wanted
- 40:54Speaker 1: to read for it, and Gary said, he's not right.
- 40:58Speaker 1: He goes, I know Richard kind, I know him from
- 41:00Speaker 1: Man About He's not he's not right for it, and
- 41:02Speaker 1: I'm going I I just let me read. He would
- 41:06Speaker 1: not see me. That show went the way of most shows,
- 41:12Speaker 1: like one season. Then he had Spin City and he
- 41:19Speaker 1: didn't want to see me, and we called the casting director,
- 41:24Speaker 1: and the casting director spoke to Bill Lawrence and Bill
- 41:28Speaker 1: wanted to see me, and I said, let me go
- 41:31Speaker 1: in and see the casting director first so that I
- 41:34Speaker 1: can practice and see it because Gary doesn't want to
- 41:36Speaker 1: see me. And Gary says, oh, I know I know
- 41:38Speaker 1: which you're kind from Man About you and he's great.
- 41:41Speaker 1: He's great. He's not right for the role. Gary didn't
- 41:44Speaker 1: want to see me. Bill did. I had a handle
- 41:47Speaker 1: on this part. The only thing that would have uh
- 41:50Speaker 1: not gone it for me is because I was too
- 41:52Speaker 1: tall from Michael J. Fox or I might have been
- 41:55Speaker 1: too Jewish ethnic New York City for whatever. But otherwise,
- 42:01Speaker 1: if they called me back the role is mine. So
- 42:05Speaker 1: I wanted to go into the casting director and then
- 42:09Speaker 1: I went into uh the h to read for Bill
- 42:13Speaker 1: and for Gary, and indeed I was called back. And
- 42:17Speaker 1: I literally said to myself, if they called me back,
- 42:20Speaker 1: this role is mine. Okay, I have to go in
- 42:24Speaker 1: to meet with Michael. Cut back years before when I
- 42:30Speaker 1: was at Second City, Michael J. Fox came to the
- 42:34Speaker 1: Second City, was doing the movie Satisfaction. Let me just
- 42:37Speaker 1: for those for those that don't know, Second Cities an
- 42:39Speaker 1: improv group ahead right and uh and I was part
- 42:43Speaker 1: of the company and whenever somebody famous was in the audist,
- 42:46Speaker 1: we would invite them to improvise with us, which we
- 42:49Speaker 1: did with Michael. So Michael and Robin Duke are doing
- 42:52Speaker 1: a scene there was obviously he was the son, she
- 42:56Speaker 1: was the mother. It's obvious if I opened the door
- 43:00Speaker 1: and I say, Honey, i'm home, I'm the father and
- 43:03Speaker 1: I belong there. So I come into the scene with honey,
- 43:08Speaker 1: I'm home, and Michael bounded one, two three and jumped
- 43:16Speaker 1: into my like this, I mean, off the floor into
- 43:22Speaker 1: my arms. Now a couple of things. I'm strong, but
- 43:27Speaker 1: I'm not that strong. Michael Jay Fox is so light
- 43:33Speaker 1: that anybody's strong lifted and he clumped onto me like
- 43:40Speaker 1: David Letterman did with self pro Do you remember when
- 43:43Speaker 1: he did that too? And Michael did that and he
- 43:49Speaker 1: hung on like that when I tell you, and you've
- 43:52Speaker 1: got to understand how long time is? There was a
- 43:57Speaker 1: forty five second laugh. It's and it wasn't that. It
- 44:04Speaker 1: was that. It was Michael was so athletic and agile
- 44:09Speaker 1: and knew the laugh and he just hung on and
- 44:12Speaker 1: I walked around with him. I'm telling you, like a money,
- 44:18Speaker 1: like a monkey. Yeah, they were dying. It is a laugh.
- 44:22Speaker 1: I will always remember it in my head. It's like
- 44:25Speaker 1: a movie. I can see what it looks like. Memorable
- 44:30Speaker 1: before I went into the audition. Cut to today, okay,
- 44:33Speaker 1: to to the audition for Spin City. And sometimes I
- 44:37Speaker 1: don't have a therapist anymore, but at the time I
- 44:39Speaker 1: had a therapist and it was a good luck thing
- 44:41Speaker 1: that I go and see my therapist sometime before I
- 44:44Speaker 1: had the audition, and it would loosen me up, it
- 44:46Speaker 1: would make me feel alive or whatever. So I go
- 44:49Speaker 1: in and I say, I tell him the story, and
- 44:52Speaker 1: I say should I bring it up? And my therapist
- 44:55Speaker 1: goes absolutely, if it was that memorable. Absolutely bring it up.
- 45:00Speaker 1: I go in, I meet Michael, and I say, I've
- 45:03Speaker 1: got to tell you. You may not we've met before.
- 45:07Speaker 1: I was on stage at Second City and we did this,
- 45:11Speaker 1: and this is what Michael said, and he's given me
- 45:13Speaker 1: permission to tell the story. He goes, I'm sorry, I
- 45:19Speaker 1: don't remember it because I was so drunk and high
- 45:23Speaker 1: during that point in my life. I don't even remember
- 45:26Speaker 1: doing Satisfaction. He did not remember being at Second City,
- 45:32Speaker 1: he didn't remember being in Chicago. He had no memory
- 45:36Speaker 1: of really doing the movie. Isn't that amazing? God, I know,
- 45:41Speaker 1: isn't that isn't that sensing one of the biggest It's
- 45:44Speaker 1: crazy that one of the biggest moments in your life,
- 45:47Speaker 1: one of the moments that that's one of the memorable
- 45:50Speaker 1: laugh He had no clue, no clue. He has no
- 45:54Speaker 1: memory of leaping, leaping onto one of the improv comedians.
- 45:58Speaker 1: He has no memory of leaping holding on keeping. However,
- 46:02Speaker 1: this is something I then remember about the audition. This
- 46:06Speaker 1: is something I clearly remember, is I had a They
- 46:10Speaker 1: wrote Bill Lawrence. As you know, as everybody who's listening,
- 46:16Speaker 1: Bill Lawrence is a fucking genius he works very hard
- 46:21Speaker 1: at being a genius, and sometimes he works to the
- 46:25Speaker 1: last minute at being a genius. But nonetheless he is
- 46:29Speaker 1: a genius at what he has chosen to do. He's
- 46:34Speaker 1: he makes things accessible, funny, weird. And let me get
- 46:39Speaker 1: to to that a little later. But I remember doing
- 46:43Speaker 1: the scene and he wrote such a brilliant funny line
- 46:47Speaker 1: because he was a great writer. Um Gary was a
- 46:50Speaker 1: great show runner. Not necessarily he was a great captain.
- 46:53Speaker 1: He was not necessarily as great a writer as some
- 46:56Speaker 1: of the product that he put out. But when you
- 46:58Speaker 1: have a genius, like like a Lawrence, you can get it.
- 47:02Speaker 1: And Gary was able to to teach things, to build
- 47:05Speaker 1: and generate things that Bill not only learn but cultivated
- 47:09Speaker 1: and made blossom even more. But that I had one
- 47:14Speaker 1: hilariously funny line that I read and Michael J. Fox,
- 47:19Speaker 1: I wonder if I could do it. I don't think
- 47:21Speaker 1: I'm met late anymore. In this chair is gonna gonna roll.
- 47:23Speaker 1: He jumped in the air like this and just landed.
- 47:27Speaker 1: He jumped in the air with laughter and landed on
- 47:31Speaker 1: the chair. He laughed that hard at my delivery. And
- 47:35Speaker 1: I have to admit I walked out of there going
- 47:38Speaker 1: the part is mine. It's mine. We we we we.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Donald and I have spoken about his timing, Uh, Michael J. Fox.
- 47:47Speaker 1: I mean I grew up watching family ties, and I
- 47:50Speaker 1: didn't know how to analyze comedy or or anything about
- 47:54Speaker 1: it at a young age. But I just knew that
- 47:57Speaker 1: he was doing something unique. We is his timing that
- 48:01Speaker 1: was so special. And Bill has said to us that
- 48:04Speaker 1: no one, no one could hold the pause and wait
- 48:09Speaker 1: for the laugh better than than Mike Fox. He he
- 48:11Speaker 1: just knew. It's like you watch those teenage girls playing
- 48:14Speaker 1: double dutch and how they know just when to go in.
- 48:17Speaker 1: Like Michael J. Fox was just so skilled at just
- 48:20Speaker 1: the right amount of pause right he was. I'm gonna
- 48:22Speaker 1: tell you. I'll tell you two things. Number One, I
- 48:25Speaker 1: heard Carl Rehner interviewed by Bob Costas, and Carl Reiner
- 48:31Speaker 1: said sitcoms were written by Jews to be acted by
- 48:37Speaker 1: non Jews. And Michael J. Fox has the rhythm of
- 48:43Speaker 1: a bors Belt comedian. Michael great, great, great talent. He
- 48:54Speaker 1: has that rhythm. And now I'm going to tell you
- 48:58Speaker 1: something else. This is sour grapes a little bit. Michael
- 49:03Speaker 1: could hold for the for that he could take a
- 49:06Speaker 1: line and make it three lines, and the camera would
- 49:10Speaker 1: always be on him because he's Michael J. Fox and
- 49:13Speaker 1: he's the star of the show. If we tried to
- 49:16Speaker 1: do it, Gary would edit it and it would all
- 49:19Speaker 1: be compressed because we're not the start and you just
- 49:22Speaker 1: gotta understand you're not the star. But I would, well,
- 49:27Speaker 1: maybe I couldn't do what he did, because quite honestly,
- 49:31Speaker 1: what he did something. I've done this with Michael, and
- 49:34Speaker 1: I've done this with Christopher Walking. I have acted with
- 49:38Speaker 1: them and as they're talking, in my head, I'm going, really,
- 49:44Speaker 1: that's how you're going to deliver the line. Really, that's
- 49:48Speaker 1: your that's your choice. That's what you want to say
- 49:53Speaker 1: and how you want to say. All right, that's if
- 49:55Speaker 1: that's going on in my head. And I would do
- 49:58Speaker 1: that with Michael. And I was lucky enough to act
- 50:01Speaker 1: with Christopher Walking. And I see them on screen and
- 50:04Speaker 1: it takes your breath away. They know what they're doing.
- 50:09Speaker 1: Uh yeah, they're they're they're magnificent. And Michael okay, and
- 50:13Speaker 1: here's something different. I was also lucky enough to do
- 50:15Speaker 1: a series with Carol Burnett, and there was a difference
- 50:20Speaker 1: between the expertise of Carol Burnett and Michael J. Fox,
- 50:24Speaker 1: who are of course the greatest who have ever taken
- 50:29Speaker 1: the screen on on TV. Michael J. Fox played for
- 50:34Speaker 1: the camera but needed the audience to get his timing,
- 50:38Speaker 1: to know, to to hear, to to get the whole
- 50:41Speaker 1: milieu of the comedy. Otherwise it's a straight our drama.
- 50:45Speaker 1: You know, you deliver it seriously. But he was able
- 50:48Speaker 1: to play that last. Carol Burnett played to the back
- 50:52Speaker 1: of the house, but knew that the camera was capturing her.
- 50:57Speaker 1: She needed the audience. That's who she really played to,
- 51:00Speaker 1: and the camera caught her and she that that was
- 51:03Speaker 1: the difference I as an actor and more like and
- 51:08Speaker 1: more like Michael J. Fox, I have a hard time
- 51:11Speaker 1: with and and and and it's and it's worked for me,
- 51:14Speaker 1: and it's worked against me. It's worked against me to
- 51:16Speaker 1: the point where I've been fired before because I was
- 51:20Speaker 1: playing for I needed the audience and I needed the
- 51:23Speaker 1: timing for it to work. But then I've also been
- 51:26Speaker 1: on shows. I've also I've been on a sitcom net
- 51:29Speaker 1: lasted for five seasons, and I had an actress tell
- 51:34Speaker 1: me one day, she was like, you know, I thought
- 51:36Speaker 1: you were gonna blow it until the audience got in
- 51:40Speaker 1: and then you turned it into something different. I'm one
- 51:43Speaker 1: of them. I can't do it without the audience. If
- 51:46Speaker 1: you're not gonna laugh, if you're not gonna give me
- 51:47Speaker 1: the rhythm. And I think that's what's great about Bill,
- 51:50Speaker 1: because Bill at the audition for Scrubs would give you
- 51:53Speaker 1: the last. He helped you create the rhythm in the audition.
- 51:57Speaker 1: You know what I mean? And so I have I have,
- 51:59Speaker 1: I know exactly what you're talking about. I have. I
- 52:01Speaker 1: have a hard time. I appreciate people that are more
- 52:04Speaker 1: like Bill because of that, Bill and Mike a perfect
- 52:07Speaker 1: for each other. If that's yes, they are, I call
- 52:10Speaker 1: it you ride the last. Yeah, it gives you a breath,
- 52:14Speaker 1: It gives you a way to get to the next
- 52:16Speaker 1: sentence or or though. And as Michael could do, he
- 52:19Speaker 1: could either hold it or in my situation and you
- 52:22Speaker 1: make a face, you know you're riding the laugh. I
- 52:26Speaker 1: feel like to say something, but but you're holding for
- 52:29Speaker 1: the last. Yeah. I feel like Michael J. Fox would
- 52:31Speaker 1: do this thing where he would almost start to like
- 52:34Speaker 1: nod like he was he was. He was nodding along
- 52:37Speaker 1: with the laugh, and the audience was was him. They
- 52:40Speaker 1: were in and I forgot what the I forgot what
- 52:43Speaker 1: the example Bill told us was. It was something like
- 52:45Speaker 1: shaving a haircut two bits or whatever it was. But
- 52:48Speaker 1: the audience knew what the two bits of it all was.
- 52:52Speaker 1: And that's the easiest thing. And then Michael Fox would
- 52:55Speaker 1: would would just kind of nod with them, let them laugh,
- 52:57Speaker 1: let them get ahead of it then and just pause
- 53:00Speaker 1: even longer so they're like, when is he gonna do it?
- 53:03Speaker 1: What is he gonna do it? And then just say
- 53:04Speaker 1: and then he would just say it and they would
- 53:06Speaker 1: go fall absolutely and that is a very that is
- 53:10Speaker 1: a comforting thing, and the audience is relieved that they
- 53:16Speaker 1: were delivered by such a waiter. It's it's the it
- 53:22Speaker 1: is the greatest. It's love, love, I've got I gotta
- 53:26Speaker 1: tell you one other thing. A lot of times because
- 53:29Speaker 1: of Michael's impairment, which we didn't even know about until
- 53:33Speaker 1: the last year, but Michael couldn't have a long evening
- 53:37Speaker 1: on Friday nights taping in front of the audience, So
- 53:40Speaker 1: in order to make it shorter, all of the extraneous
- 53:46Speaker 1: that's the wrong word. All of the supporting cast they
- 53:50Speaker 1: had scenes. We would do their scenes and they were
- 53:53Speaker 1: in swing sets in the back, so they were not
- 53:57Speaker 1: in front of the audience. They would have just been
- 53:58Speaker 1: shown on TV. Just Paul is there for the audience.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Swing sets or sets that if you're doing a sitcom,
- 54:02Speaker 1: aren't right in front of the audience. There, they may
- 54:04Speaker 1: be out of out of the audience's view right right,
- 54:07Speaker 1: the audience is seeing it live, but not with their
- 54:10Speaker 1: they're seeing it live on a screen, but but not
- 54:13Speaker 1: in front. Most of Michael's stuff was done in front
- 54:16Speaker 1: of an audience, even if it was on a swing set,
- 54:19Speaker 1: because that's what Michael wanted so in order to get
- 54:24Speaker 1: and and I was in either the B or sometimes
- 54:27Speaker 1: I was usually a C story that was all about
- 54:30Speaker 1: me but just took a few pages. But I did
- 54:34Speaker 1: not get the audience, so I didn't hear that laugh
- 54:37Speaker 1: and I couldn't write it. But when I was in
- 54:39Speaker 1: front of an audience, I of course was much better
- 54:42Speaker 1: as But those are some of the things that people
- 54:46Speaker 1: don't know. But it's absolutely fair. I over the years,
- 54:50Speaker 1: and you're gonna you're gonna say, oh no, no, Richard, No,
- 54:53Speaker 1: I can't do for camera sitcom nearly as well as
- 54:57Speaker 1: I got to. I'm a much better actor now and
- 55:00Speaker 1: therefore to be big on four camera, which you really
- 55:03Speaker 1: have to do, you have to. It's it's it's the
- 55:05Speaker 1: greatest amount of of theater and TV. I'm not nearly
- 55:09Speaker 1: as good. So do you know by choice or by
- 55:12Speaker 1: by choice? I can't do it anymore. It's not by choice.
- 55:16Speaker 1: I am a better actor on single camera. I prefer
- 55:18Speaker 1: single camera, meaning not four cameras going at once. You
- 55:22Speaker 1: do almost seeing it's for the audience. It's it's one camera.
- 55:25Speaker 1: They've lit it all up. And which is how uh
- 55:29Speaker 1: Scrubs has done for those who want to know. When
- 55:34Speaker 1: you watch All in the Family, you watch Roseanne, there
- 55:38Speaker 1: is a different look of those shows versus when you
- 55:41Speaker 1: watch Scrubs. You can feel that difference of videotape and
- 55:45Speaker 1: and here the audience. So that's, uh, that is the difference.
- 55:49Speaker 1: But you're very good at that, so you you you
- 55:51Speaker 1: wouldn't um, you know, if if if a sitcom came
- 55:54Speaker 1: up in New York City, you would pass on it.
- 55:56Speaker 1: If a sitcom came up in l A dude, that's
- 55:59Speaker 1: all the gop. Now, he's I'm just saying I am
- 56:05Speaker 1: not nearly as well. I want to say a depth
- 56:09Speaker 1: I can't be as I suppose. I can't. You want something,
- 56:12Speaker 1: I'm wrong because I'm lately doing the Goldbergs. I'm huge
- 56:18Speaker 1: on the Goldbergs and that's single camera, single I'm huge,
- 56:23Speaker 1: and but the the premise the character is written, I'm
- 56:30Speaker 1: ill servant about Jim Hobart. Though. Is Tim Hobart running
- 56:37Speaker 1: the Goldbergs? What is Tim Hobert working on the Goldbergs?
- 56:40Speaker 1: Are running the Goldbergs? No? No, no, Tim Hobert did
- 56:43Speaker 1: that wonderful show The Middle. Yeah, he ran The Middle.
- 56:46Speaker 1: And I came on as a guest, and uh Lee
- 56:50Speaker 1: Sallet Semo, who I adore, came on and wanted my
- 56:54Speaker 1: character to be a little larger. And I went, Lee,
- 56:57Speaker 1: I don't do that anymore, and she sort of said,
- 57:00Speaker 1: I know, but do it. And so I had. I
- 57:04Speaker 1: became larger for a single camera and it didn't feel comfortable.
- 57:08Speaker 1: The person I was acting opposite was should be big.
- 57:12Speaker 1: I should be small so that she could be big.
- 57:15Speaker 1: Now we were both big. Not my cup of tea.
- 57:18Speaker 1: But I said, I know the genre, I know what
- 57:21Speaker 1: it had to be. I didn't want to do it.
- 57:23Speaker 1: I agree with I agree with you. You can't The
- 57:25Speaker 1: second if you if you watch Scrubs. Of course there's
- 57:29Speaker 1: times and we're for example down I are both big,
- 57:31Speaker 1: but usually we're riding a line where one person has
- 57:34Speaker 1: the license to be the water of the two, because
- 57:36Speaker 1: you can't because if it's it's it's if you're both
- 57:39Speaker 1: on that level, then it doesn't feel is right. And John,
- 57:43Speaker 1: of course was written to be ridiculously outsized. You know
- 57:50Speaker 1: John McGinley, he was. He was huge with it. Even
- 57:55Speaker 1: if he was small, it was it was that was
- 57:57Speaker 1: that huge, you know, is he was that the dneck
- 58:00Speaker 1: And uh, there are larger characters on the show, which
- 58:06Speaker 1: major shows so wonderful, and there are enormous situations where
- 58:11Speaker 1: if you treat it realistically, they are that much funnier.
- 58:15Speaker 1: So sometimes you're acting with uh with with the script.
- 58:19Speaker 1: But but I always thought that the audience was the
- 58:24Speaker 1: third member of the scene. And you do that with
- 58:27Speaker 1: in theater, and you do that in sitcoms in four camera,
- 58:31Speaker 1: but you don't do it on Scrubs. I've never, I've never,
- 58:34Speaker 1: I've done guest spots on the sitcoms. I did Donald's
- 58:38Speaker 1: and I and we did we did a spoof of
- 58:39Speaker 1: one on on the show scrubs. But I I've never
- 58:42Speaker 1: done it. I think that I would. The theater guy
- 58:47Speaker 1: in me would would probably have a lot of fun
- 58:49Speaker 1: doing it. It's a lot of fun. It's a lot
- 58:53Speaker 1: of fun. This is my experience with it. It's a
- 58:56Speaker 1: lot of fun. On show night. I can't sleep after
- 58:58Speaker 1: a show. It's so oh. But that's what theater is,
- 59:03Speaker 1: right right, every actor goes out and has a drink
- 59:08Speaker 1: or two after because who goes home from work after
- 59:11Speaker 1: having all of this energy? You just don't go and
- 59:14Speaker 1: you know what it's it's it's ten thirty, go home
- 59:17Speaker 1: and go to sleep. You don't you go out and
- 59:19Speaker 1: you have to let you have to let off steam
- 59:21Speaker 1: after a day's work. Even even after, even after the
- 59:25Speaker 1: drink and I got home, I was still like it
- 59:27Speaker 1: was still still up. And But the thing about about
- 59:31Speaker 1: theater is it is a person's life compressed into two
- 59:37Speaker 1: and a half hours. I call it a little piece
- 59:39Speaker 1: of shampoo. It's this much, it's two and a half hours.
- 59:43Speaker 1: But to rub it and all of a sudden, it's
- 59:45Speaker 1: just all of this ladder, it's it's huge, all in
- 59:48Speaker 1: this little dot, and it's it's uh. It takes a
- 59:52Speaker 1: lot to come down and when you do a show,
- 59:55Speaker 1: you are on in northern Energy. But I gotta ask you.
- 59:58Speaker 1: I gotta ask you this man, When you do plays
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: and stuff like that, don't you find that more gratifying
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: than doing fulfilling, I should say, than doing movies and
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: TV and stuff like that. Like I cry at the
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: end when I'm done with a play. For some reason,
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: I'm crying at the end of it. I don't feel
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: that way necessarily when I'm doing TV shows or when
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: I'm doing movies and stuff like that, But at the
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: end of a play, it just feels like, holy cow,
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: what a release. Bill Lawrence got very insulted properly about
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: the story that I'm about to tell. And I didn't
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: mean it this way, but I used to call TV
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: was my waiter's job, so that I could afford to
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: do a play. Yeah, TV gave me the wherewithal the
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: money to raise children, have a house, eat so that
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: I could go and starve. Because no matter what play
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: you're doing, even if you're the highest paid person on stage,
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: you're not making the money that TV and movie pays.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: And so I said, it's my waiter's job, and he
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: took it like TV is a second rate job. It's
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: not if you are lucky enough to be doing first
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: rate material. Yeah, of course whatever. However, I get more
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: satisfaction doing plays. I am. I'm thrilled in the rehearsal,
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: in fact, just doing I don't have to do a
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: play for longer than a month. I like rehearsing better.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: I agree when I did, when I did my six
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: months run on Broadway and it ended, it was very sad,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: but I remember like collapsing on the ground, being like
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: six months was fine. I'm fine. It's this is it's look,
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: it's not the salt minds. And it's also like going
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: to the gym. Uh, you know how going getting to
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: the gym, oh my god, oh my god. But after
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: the workout you're happy you didn't. Getting to the theater
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: is oh christ, this guy again, this life again, this
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: show again. But then you do it and the show
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: is over and you're happy. And the camaraderie nothing nothing,
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: I think Donald, one of the reasons you're trying is
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: that nothing, even nothing in film and TV, matches the
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: camaraderie of of doing a play with a group of
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: people absolutely, because you're on you're on the line. Together. Man,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: you're on it together together. One person falls, somebody has
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: to pull that person back or the play is gonna
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: fall apart. Every it'll fall apart. And when I did
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: Summer Stock when I was a kid, and we did
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: like fourteen fifteen weeks, it was it was huge and
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: with the same cast. It was all a repertory company,
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: and we we were so close, and for a year
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: or two we were so close. I've I don't keep
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: in touch with one of them. But I'm telling you,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: I said, these people will be my friends for the
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: rest of my life, and then they don't. And well,
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: well sometimes they do. Sometimes I take that back to
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: I don't. I don't know about the like I did
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: a play at the Old Globe in uh in San Diego,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: Picasso at the La Panagiel it's the Steve Martin play
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: it sure and with with with we said, huh No,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: I did it with Justin Long with Justin Long, Was
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: Dan Testlonetta in it? No, none of these people were.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: Well then I know nothing of what it was it was,
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: but it was anyway. So we did a play there
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: and I just remember thinking, well, I really like these guys.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: I hope we hang out after this, and we do.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: I still talk to these guys, you know what. I
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: still Justin and I we face time every now and then.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Like I know, I knew if I brought this up,
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: you would get upset. I want to hear about your
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: relationship with Justin Long. I'm still close with all the
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: guys City and you are obviously close with all the
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: guys from Scrubs. No person, of course. And I and I,
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: you know, there's people from the Bullets show and other
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: shows that I that I you know, we don't see
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: them that much, but we text and look a time.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: So we want to let you go. But I let
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: you go. But but then I will say, and uh
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: I said this to you in in a text or email,
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: But uh At, you are a great man. You're You're
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: great at what you do. But I know the history
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: that you had with your co star, and you are great.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: You were a good, good man. I'm talking about your
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: co star in Bullets and I'm well aware of your
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: goodness and your kindness, and anybody wants to look it up.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: We won't talk because it's so serious, but you are
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: a great man. Well, thank you, sir. All I've done
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: is stand by um my friends, which I which I
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: hope that we we all would do. Um. We also
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: if someone we love is is in is in need
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: that I think we all aspire to be the person
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: that will show up. Yeah, listen, I want to I
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: want to thank you. Um sir, we it is no
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: smoke to say that we genuinely admire you and look
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: up to you and quote you all the time. I mean,
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: Donald and Bill and I will be together on just
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: all of a sudden be like I have Yaba. Was
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: waiting for that word, I like you. I always forget it. Yeah,
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: we know that. And then you go, you go, your
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: you go, you go, you go, I have I have
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: Yama and and Cox goes. Really have you been around? Um?
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: This this rare type of monkey. That's the only person
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: to give that to you in in Africa and you go,
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: I have been to the zoo. Continue. First of all,
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: that is also the genius of Bill, who can write
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: for me, who wrote brilliantly for me, and to choose
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: the vowels that I can make a meal with. A
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: lot of people do do an impression of me. I
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: can't do an impression of me, except that I used
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: to be a recurring character on the show called the
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: commission and uh somebody when I was at a poker
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: game and they said, are you're gonna be here next week?
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: And I go, I can't. I'm doing a commission. Impressive
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: I can do with me. I can't do me. But
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: when I when I say it, where it's those are
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: the bowels that are so your timing. There was an
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: episode last week we did where you were the janitors
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: trying to get you to conspire with him and and
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: he's like, hey, if you you know do x y Z,
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: I can help you, and you kind of look up
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: and there's a long pause and you go go on,
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: it's just too fucking syllables, and it's funny. And the one,
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: the one that's really great is when he walks into
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: the room and he's complaining about everything and they close
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: the curtain on him and Cock says to him, uh,
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: you know this is gonna cost you your your insurance
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: is gonna pay for this. And you imp and you're
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: fully dressed. I remember that that. I do remember. How
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: did you do that without a cowboy, without a cowboy switch?
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: How did they do that? Because it's done so well,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: it's not there's no cut. There must have been people
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: back there helping you because it's literally like a it's
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: like a four second change. It's hilarious. Is that crazy? Yeah?
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: Here's what I wanted to say about Bill, and I
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: mean this, He started with Spin City, took it to
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: a greater extreme with you guys. Two page, three page
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: scenes that add up to a story that that was
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: never done before. And when you get things like thirty
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: Rock and and successive shows. It started with Bill and
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: it started on Spin City a little bit, but it
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: really continued with you guys. He is the creator. He
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: is the mind behind the new thing because he was
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: young and attention spans cameras, but that's what he did.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: He was He created that and it's abstounding the what
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: he did. And I don't think anybody credits him. They
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: all credit him with being great and you know, and
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: and and and super successful and commercial, but he did
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: that with you. I agree with you. I don't think
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: Bill gets the credit he deserves. I mean he's not
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: at all. Maybe now with ted Lasso, because guess what,
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: on Sunday he might win the Golden Globe. Oh that
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: would be great. I love ted Lasso. It's it's wonderful.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: Episode two is your favorite, wasn't it? Because that's the
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: one I directed? It was. I did like it. I
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: do know that that you directed it. I actually do
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: because I have a feeling you two is gonna work
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: together soon. I have a feeling. Way are you kidding me?
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: There's not if someone if I'm directing something and there's
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: something he's right for, I I literally request him. I said,
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: you have to ask Richard if he's available, and I'll shave.
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: I will shave. I will let you go, sir with
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: your tea time. But thank you so much. I love
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: you both. I don't know Daniel now, but great to
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: see you guys. Thank you by buddy care Richard. Let's
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: take a break. We'll be right back after these fine words.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: Oh my god, I can't stop laughing you guys. Daniel
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: and I were messaging while we were listening, and I
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: was like, it's so rare, you just to sit back
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: and listen and while you're recording. That was that you guys.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: He had like nine thouns and more stories to tell.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: But I was like, we promised we'd get him up
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: for his tea time. I'm Mike shake. We have to
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: see if he can come back and tell us my
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: stories he's got He's got so many stories, uh, you know,
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: because he's just a journeyman actor who's been in a
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: zillion things. But I really want everybody out there who
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: is an actor and who is coming up and everything.
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: Just listen. If you if this podcast did anything for
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: you today, rewind to when he's talking about auditions. That is,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: those are jewels. Those are gyms given to you from
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: Richard Kind. And I'm telling you right now, I'm gonna
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna use them. I'm gonna stell a lot of
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: the stuff you mean to me too. And by the way,
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: you don't even have to be an actor. It's about
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: if you're going into a job interview, if you're going
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: into a big meeting, it's about like the just mind
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: you're gonna mind funk yourself one way or the other.
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: Why not mind funk yourself into like I'm a badass
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: and you guys are gonna be fucking lucky to have me.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: By the way, you're saying this in your mind, not outline.
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: We don't want you writing this being like I said
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: it out loud, like you said I walked into the
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: audition give me this part because you know I'm the
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: one who's going to make you the most money. Doesn't
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: work out of your mouth? All right? Well listen obviously,
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: because Richard hadn't seen the episode, which was a ultimate
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: blessing in disguise because we got to talk about so
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: much more. We'll we'll do this episode next time, right Joel,
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: and then and we'll just call this conversation with Richard
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: kind Um, I want to dandle. This gives us a
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: chance to do a rap if you want to do one, Okay,
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: we'll try. This episode was very funny, by the way.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: I had some great moments. I laughed out loud of bunch. Donald,
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: I just have to say when you say, um, let's
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: not get into it. Let me just say one thing.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: When you're with the heavy set gal and you're pushed
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: into the mattress and it's not it's not a fantasy
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: she has. She has in real life pushed you down
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: into the mattress. That was funny. I'm gonna tell you
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: something right now. I love the fact that Turk likes BBW.
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: That's a beautiful thing. Baby. Yeah, well I like BBW. Two. Listen, Donald, Um,
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: we have to tell everyone our big news. Should we
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: tell everyone our big news? We're doing We're doing so.
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: I thought I was going to be to get to
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: one to the time. You're fine, no, no, no, leave it, Daniel,
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: UM listen. It is one of my child's dreams. I
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: never thought in my life that I would get to
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: be on Family Feud. And I'm talking. I used to
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: watch back in the day when Richard Dawson was like
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: groping people. Um now but but now, Steve Harvey. My
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: one of my life goals is to say something on
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: Family Feud that will make Steve Harvey do his classic
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: dead pan look away. And we have been contacted. I
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: don't know how many podcasts have been on Family Feud
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: before I heard The Office Ladies, but I don't know
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: how many others. But the four of Us and Bill
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: because it's five players are going to represent fake doctors,
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: real friends on Family Feud. Amazing. I'm so Daniel thunders
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: the thunders of blood at Daniel. I know you're particularly
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: geeked about this. Can you tell us what you're feeling?
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: Don't do that, family you dude, don't do that. Look
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: I'll tell you. I'll tell you this in my head
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: there are moments when I'm about to encounter someone that
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: I admire or that I'm a really big fan of,
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: and I take a second and I think about what
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna say before I get there. And you know that,
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: for however long until we get on Family Feud, I'm
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: going to be running through everything that I'm going to
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: be saying this department before we step on that stage,
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: because I am truly beyond geek that's such a huge
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: fan of game shows and watching Family Feud and all
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: of that. I mean, like, you know, a story from
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: the tour bus when Ian, when me and my best
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: friend were on tour as Gladiator, that was what we
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: would watch on the tour bus. We would watch Family
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: Feud with everybody, just back to back to back to back.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: It was our favorite thing. And this is like, I mean,
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: I'm so thankful, I really can't even We gotta win, guys,
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: and you know, you know, you know when we come
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: out of the huddle, we gotta be clapping and you
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: notice saying, you know, you guys say good answer answer, answer, yeah, Donald,
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: your good answer. Okay, Because I've watched Family Feud before
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: when somebody said of something and everybody was supportive, saying
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: good answer, good answer. No, but you've got to be supportive.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: I want to be able to say that's not a
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: good answer if somebody says something dumb, even if it's me,
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: I want to be like, that's not a good answer.
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: I got. I'm so excited you guys. When I found
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: out this news, I was like, this is this is
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: a little piece of you know, in this pandemic, a
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: little jewel of something that is so exciting to me.
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: We gotta figure out who we're gonna be up against.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: M that's a I mean, well, no, they pitched I
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: don't want to tell who, but they pitched a couple
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: of people that are already in the slots. And or
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: they said, if you have a team that that you
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: guys want to pitch to go up against where or
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: where our ears are open. So I don't know. I mean, look,
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: I think the obvious choices. We go up against something
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: that's very similar to scrubs. I know Office Ladies wol
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: have been perfect, but they've already done it. Apparently, one
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: of my Instagram followers told me that the Office Ladies
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: was up against Scott Foley's actual family. They were I
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: watch that episode. Yeah, maybe we should, we should go
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: again Scott family. Scott Foley's actual family is a bunch
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: of famous people. Then his wife, his sister in law,
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: his his brother in law. Yeah, they're all they're all
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: very good. Well, we want to we want to go
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: again people that will be funny, because that's what makes
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: the whole show funny. Want we want we don't want.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: We don't want a dud. No, no, I'm not saying folly.
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: I'm saying we want to. We want the other team
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: to be funny because you know, most importantly, we want
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: our episode to be hilarious. Right, absolutely, we want the
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: funniest family. Everybody says, right, oh my god, I'm gonna
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: Do you think Steve Harvey will let me touch his mustache? No? Not, huh?
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: What if? What if I put on a glove? I
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: think that's a good idea. If you want to deadpans stare, though,
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: that's how you get it. That is how you get it,
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: touch the mustache. And you probably watch more episodes than
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: any of us, do you know the best way to
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: You just say something outrageous to get the dead pan stare,
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: usually actual, usually within sexual When you went to bing
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: there you go. Look, I'm gonna do my impression on
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: it for you guys. You gotta do the open mouth
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: one too, an open mouth one, I said when we
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: found out, you guys listening. When we found out, I
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: sent all these guys all my favorite Steve Harvey gifts. Incredible.
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: I'm so excited by the way. There's a Scrubs tie
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: in because on like episode whatever is it four or something,
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: we we cut to when Louis Anderson was hosting. We cut,
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: we cut to that we were on the show for boobs.
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with boobs. Wasn't that episode was fantasy?
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: I was. I was very upset about it. I even
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: spoke about it on the podcast. All right, so look
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: next week, I guess Thursday for you guys, because this
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: is for Tuesdays. Thursday, we will dive into the episode
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: that we were supposed to dive into today. Um all right, Um. Otherwise,
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: other news, UM, don't forget to mark your calendars for March.
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: We're gonna do a live show that's gonna be amazing.
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: I had a really good idea for a musical guest
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: that I'll tell you guys secretly. Friday, fielding to on
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: Tuesday Friday. Tickets for the live event we'll be going
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: on sale Friday. But that's exciting. Yeah. Now, are we
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: going to cap the audience? This is something we haven't
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: talked about. Why would we cap them? Well, I mean
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: special event, man, you, I mean, if you if there's
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: two schools of thought. One is just like, let anyone
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: in the world who wants to come in want Toby ticket,
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: you come in. And then the other school of thought
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: is like, no, let's make it special and and and
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: limit the amount of people in the quote unquote theater
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: like you would if you were touring. I think the
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: great thing about a virtual tour is that everybody can
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: join in. All right, So you talked, we talked about
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: O two and all of that stuff. There's no way
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: you can do O two numbers if we cap. But
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: what about the supreme model of selling clothing where it's like, sorry, guys,
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: we only had a thousand seats. The last thing I
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: want to do, yeah, the first real live show, small
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: intimate theater. Okay, so maybe if we go forward we
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: do bespoke ones. Yeah. I think this one. I think
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: this is for everybody. All our listeners want this, and
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: so we should give them the opportunity. And you know,
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: if you don't want this, I would employ you to
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: change your mind. It's gonna things are gonna happen then.
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: First of all, things are going to happen that don't
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: happen on the show. Oh yeah, you think. Yeah, we're
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: gonna have a musical guest. At least we're gonna interact
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: with our fans. You're gonna they're gonna be able to
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: look at our faces. Donald will show his melted her.
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: She's kisses that. By March, which is one month from today,
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: I'm hoping to have abs, So maybe maybe I'll show
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: you them. Maybe if I listen, if I dropped a
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: few more pounds, I will show melt at her she's kissing. You.
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: Guys can hear you, Guys can hear about what the
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: what it's all about? You can you know what else
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: we can do? As a pitch, I'll tell the audience
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: this pitch that I think you might like shafter Balls.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: You know he's speaking of shafter Balls. This is kind
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: of like our only fans. We're doing an only fans event. Yeah,
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: but it's like shafter Balls, except we're not going to
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: show you know, balloon n um. I wanted to say
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: that maybe we sing Gilve No, no, no, no, because
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: we sc You're scared. You're scared. You think I'm scared
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: to sing? You scured? You can sing guy love right now.
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: It's not that's for the special event. Dick nick, dick,
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: it's not a big deal. You rub your neck. I'm
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: a dick nick, So that means my face is the
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: what the head? The tip? Can you rub your neck
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: and you look like a giraffe when that ship grows,
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: look like when it grows? Yeah, when he's oh, I
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: hope it's a little girth the yet, Yeah, your dick
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: neck has a lot more gir the go all our sponsors.
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: All right, listen, let's get out of here while we're ahead. Joel,
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: You're right, don't worry, Joel. You can unpause rebels any moment. Listen, guys,
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: did you watch one division? I'm not caught up. Don't
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: say a word. Yeah, did you watch week? Did you
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: watch it? Watched last week's I haven't watched last night's. No.
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: Donald's kind of guy that gets up in the morning
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: and watch it. We my wife and I watched it
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: this morning because we had the kids were at school
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: and we had a little bit of time before the podcast,
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: and and uh who sorry, I mean leave it at that,
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: get your baby back on the nipple. I'll do it.
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: I'll do it, easy, easy there, It is all right.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: There's gonna be a kid. There's gonna be a kid
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: that hears that. One day. It's gonna be like, I'm
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: so troubled. That just reminds me of my mom's teeth.
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: I don't know what it is about Zack's voice, but
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: it reminds me of suckling on my mom's teeth. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: all right, let's end this. That was awesome. That was
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: such a surprise, and it's such a great example of
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: how like when the second he said he hadn't seen
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: the episode, I was like a rhet row and then
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: I was That was one of the most entertaining guests
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: we've had. Um. Yeah, he has so many stories, man.
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: And the next time we got to ask about the
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: Clooney all his Clooney uh an, because he's Clooney's best
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: friend and they and he and and he was Clooney
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: was best man at his wedding and I'm sure they
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: have a lot of adventures, so that that will get
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: Richard to tell I cannot stress this enough. The jewels
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: that he left, We're sacred, and so please, if you
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: are in business and you have fear of walking into
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: rooms and being in front of people, or if you
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: need a new anecdote because the old one is not
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: working anymore, rewind this episode. Great talk with Richard kind. Guys.
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: All right, we love you all and um see you
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: next time. Next stories about sure we made about a
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: bunch of doctor nurses and janitor who love me. I said,
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: here's the stories never should know. So Yatton around you,
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: Here are Yato around you? Here a watch mm hmm
