- 8:52Speaker 3: That would be cool.
- 8:53Speaker 3: We're doing this a lot more and more live.
- 8:56Speaker 3: I'm learning more about this.
- 8:57Speaker 3: You know, kind of cool YouTube is just starting out, hopefully, if we consistently do it.
- 9:02Speaker 3: It's a different format you got.
- 9:05Speaker 3: When we're doing this, it's a direct link to you to Facebook and Facebook.
- 9:11Speaker 3: When I'm talking or you're talking first person, we switch back and forth, but you can always hear us.
- 9:16Speaker 3: As far as YouTube, I've got special mics.
- 9:20Speaker 3: I'm mic'd up.
- 9:21Speaker 3: The mic is by.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Super.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Nash and we are recorded.
- 9:29Speaker 3: It's basically being recorded live and it'll be up there, but that is something that you can just.
- 9:34Speaker 3: It looks like we're on ESPN, I'm interviewing Nash or we're talking back and forth, so that's really kind of cool For all you people out there in the listening area.
- 9:46Speaker 3: We are also recording to go on to all the audio.
- 9:50Speaker 3: We're on every audio format there is.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Whatever you have, you can listen to it.
- 9:55Speaker 3: So when you're in your car, make sure you put on the scotchy bourbon boys and catch one of the newer episodes.
- 10:06Speaker 4: Yeah, you can possibly think of.
- 10:08Speaker 4: We're there.
- 10:08Speaker 4: You can ask Alexa or Siri to play us.
- 10:11Speaker 4: That's what I think so cool.
- 10:13Speaker 4: If I'm asking Alexa to play scotchy bourbon boys every morning when I get up, I'm going to try something.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just kind of like, um well you travel a lot, so I'm always quizzing you Whenever.
- 10:30Speaker 1: I do one on my own.
- 10:31Speaker 3: I'm like, did you see that podcast, super Nash?
- 10:37Speaker 1: that's.
- 10:37Speaker 3: I give, I give you shit.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Did you hear that podcast last night and he's like I fell asleep, but I have to run it for you know you got to admit when, when you weren't a regular part of the podcast, you probably listened to all of them, right, you were listening all the time.
- 10:59Speaker 4: Now that you make them you don't have to listen, I would just say I do go back and listen to when I when I hit my long trips and.
- 11:11Speaker 4: But it's like now, it's like I'm in and out and in and out and then Having work in the shop here and so then I try to put them on when I'm working in the shop and so that's pretty cool on on the Saturdays when I'm working in the shop.
- 11:28Speaker 4: That's when I get to hear the replays.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Okay, so that's pretty cool.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Yeah, that's, that's awesome.
- 11:35Speaker 3: So, as far as the week went, I was able to acquire a couple more bottles for trading.
- 11:44Speaker 3: I was able to pick up Up here in Ohio.
- 11:48Speaker 3: They have you can't like buy cases or anything, you buy one at a time but, you just keep going to the store.
- 11:55Speaker 3: I think I was able to get five bottles of Weller special reserve and a bottle of Antique 107.
- 12:01Speaker 3: So we're getting there.
- 12:02Speaker 3: You know great trading bottles.
- 12:05Speaker 3: You know the rest of the country doesn't get it.
- 12:07Speaker 3: So it's just a good thing to do and that's one thing that that super Nash is really good at.
- 12:13Speaker 3: He trades correct.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Mr.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Bourbon hunter.
- 12:19Speaker 4: Absolutely, because you can get stuff up there that a lot of us southern people can't get and Makes for good trading down here and a lot of people like to say they love They'll go bourbon hunt up north and they'll get those allocated bottles but they would rather have Like stuff like the low, really special reserve and stuff like that that they can't get down here and so they'll trade out, you know like two or three Bottles, you know for the allocated stuff that they stand in line for and all, and so it makes really good trading.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Yeah, really good, we're the dis.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Everybody comes out happy.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Yeah, we're the distributors, they're the distributors.
- 13:08Speaker 3: You swap what you, but where every market seems to have a little bit of something that other markets don't get so swapping back and forth is always a good thing.
- 13:18Speaker 3: There's no doubt about it, right, absolutely All right.
- 13:21Speaker 3: So, coming up one of the couple things that that happened Next, not this, the week from today, we have a Derek Brandon, I believe, is his name, and, and he's gonna be coming on, and he is a local Bourbon enthusiast that I see a lot when I'm out in lines, but he's very good at obtaining really good whiskies and he loves whiskies.
- 13:48Speaker 3: He loves cigars and I asked him to be on the podcast and we're gonna set that up for next Thursday and then also December 12th, which is the Tuesday before you get in.
- 14:00Speaker 3: So you got to be on this podcast before you know you.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Whatever, but David Mandel, he is part of the Kentucky Bourbon Guild board.
- 14:12Speaker 3: He was the president, randy Preci it was was his boss for a while as Kentucky Bourbon Festival president.
- 14:22Speaker 3: He was David was ahead of the board, but he also has been on so many different projects when it comes to bourbon.
- 14:29Speaker 3: He was part of the people who started Parts on Bourbon Company.
- 14:38Speaker 3: They sold a little bit back and then he was working with also Kentucky Owl to get that beautiful distillery built and right now I believe it's called the Kentucky Whiskey House.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Is that?
- 14:53Speaker 3: I want to say that's what it is and it is the newest Distillery.
- 14:59Speaker 3: But it's going to be completely what, what, what contract distilling.
- 15:07Speaker 3: It's not gonna have its own brand and David's on that part of the you know of Investing and and getting in on that.
- 15:18Speaker 3: So he is going to come on the program.
- 15:20Speaker 3: He's been a fan of the Scotchy bourbon boys Pretty much from the start and it's gonna be really cool to have David on.
- 15:28Speaker 3: I mean we saw him talk at the Kentucky Owl Event last year at Kentucky Bourbon Festival not this year, but the year before and he's really, in my opinion, very important to where Bourbon and Whiskey in Kentucky has the direction, and this huge boom has gone, so yeah, so look for that.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Tuesday December 12.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Yep you come up the 14th, so that should be a fun, fun, fun, fun time.
- 16:07Speaker 3: So those are that's what's coming up, folks, so let's get to it.
- 16:11Speaker 3: You know we've been talking for a little bit.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Let's get to it.
- 16:13Speaker 3: We are talking little book and and we have a lot of really good stories about little book.
- 17:07Speaker 3: I mean Personally me and you.
- 17:10Speaker 3: I think you've you got me.
- 17:12Speaker 3: This is chapter 7.
- 17:14Speaker 3: I'm looking up there and this is my fifth, I think the ride I think was it to that wasn't so good.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I don't think.
- 17:25Speaker 3: I have one, or was it three?
- 17:27Speaker 3: There was, there was one of them.
- 17:29Speaker 3: I didn't like.
- 17:30Speaker 3: I think it was three, wasn't it?
- 17:32Speaker 3: So I think you got me in on two.
- 17:35Speaker 4: And then what you had in two and two is really good because it had a 40 year Canadian Whiskey in it right, and then, and then three, I Didn't what then?
- 17:47Speaker 3: then four, five, six and seven are all up there, and but this is, this is seven, and I'm excited about this.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Let's just talk about how we obtained it.
- 17:59Speaker 3: I Obtained everyone of mine, all seven here and everybody can see you said you weren't gonna have them all out, we're just gonna do one, but you got all seven well, I Gotta have a show Facebook, so I gotta have a show in here.
- 18:32Speaker 4: Yeah, you too and, as a matter of fact and I can tell you just a little bit you want to go back to to two.
- 18:41Speaker 4: It was a boom of a eight year Kentucky Raya, 13 year Canadian right in a 40 year Canadian corn whiskey and, oh my gosh, it was to me it was.
- 18:54Speaker 4: Then it was called no simple task and To me it was probably one of the best ones out of all seven.
- 19:06Speaker 3: Well, I thought I Thought last year's, which, so the 2020 okay, I was able to go on that barrel pick for Knob Creek, but Freddie was there and that would have been chapter five, right?
- 19:28Speaker 4: Yeah, that would have been chapter four.
- 19:30Speaker 4: That would have been lessons, honored, chapter four.
- 19:34Speaker 4: Yep 20 I'm looking at it right here then 2020, then it would have been 21.
- 19:41Speaker 3: Yes, it was the 2021 release.
- 19:44Speaker 3: That's the one that that I got to try Before he released it.
- 19:50Speaker 4: Nothing passed me on the little books tonight.
- 19:52Speaker 4: I got, I got all the which one?
- 19:54Speaker 3: is it the 21?
- 19:55Speaker 3: That's the one I got.
- 19:57Speaker 4: That's what you want to know about.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what.
- 20:00Speaker 4: I'll tell you all about it right here.
- 20:01Speaker 4: And the.
- 20:06Speaker 4: There's the.
- 20:10Speaker 4: I knew I could get one by you.
- 20:17Speaker 4: 2021 release is a age of two years and it's a blend of two to 15 year-old whiskey.
- 20:26Speaker 4: That is all that it said.
- 20:30Speaker 4: What was it called?
- 20:33Speaker 4: A two year content?
- 20:34Speaker 4: It's called a.
- 20:36Speaker 4: Let's see.
- 20:40Speaker 3: The batch.
- 20:42Speaker 4: Okay, and he's going to have to go to the card on this one.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Going to the card.
- 20:52Speaker 4: Okay, it's called the invitation.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Yes, the invitation yes, I remember.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Yeah, this is a two year straight Kentucky bourbon, three year Kentucky straight rye malt whiskey, five year Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey and a 15 year straight Kentucky bourbon, yeah, and when I got to taste that initially with Freddie, I'm like I tasted that rye malt and it was at the time I wasn't a big fan of rye, but there was way more bourbon than and it just was.
- 21:34Speaker 3: I just told him how good it was.
- 21:36Speaker 3: And then, if I'm not mistaken, that's the bottle that you, you sent up to me.
- 21:41Speaker 3: That was from his foundation, that had the picture that you know that you had.
- 21:47Speaker 3: You had one.
- 21:55Speaker 4: No, I found it.
- 21:56Speaker 4: But this was the cool thing.
- 21:59Speaker 4: I was on my way to North Carolina and I stopped in there and because I knew they had just released it, and I stopped in one of my favorite little towns in North Carolina, just across the state line.
- 22:12Speaker 4: So I go to the liquor store and it's a state liquor store and I asked him.
- 22:21Speaker 4: I said, hey, have you got any little books?
- 22:24Speaker 4: And I'm like I think we're all sold out.
- 22:29Speaker 4: But wait a minute, let me go in the back and check it, check to see.
- 22:33Speaker 4: So all of a sudden it goes back and comes out with two of them.
- 22:38Speaker 4: So I was like, oh, I'm going to get me one, I'm going to get Jeff one, because she was with me, we're on the bike, and I was like I'm going to get both of them.
- 22:48Speaker 4: And he's like I'm sorry, we can only say one, but I want one of my wife wants one.
- 22:54Speaker 4: He's like, no, sorry man, one per family Time to spread the spread the love.
- 23:04Speaker 3: And you should have said that, just should have out of nowhere said my girlfriend, she's a completely different family.
- 23:16Speaker 4: So at the time we weren't married I know you weren't.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Yeah, you just got married last last summer.
- 23:22Speaker 4: But you know, at that time I just said, well, my wife was one, but it was like no, he shot me down and so I got one.
- 23:33Speaker 4: But no longer did I get out of the store and get up to North Carolina and get checked in and all of a sudden I get an email.
- 23:43Speaker 4: You run the raffle and you won the little book I like.
- 23:50Speaker 4: Oh, he said it's my second bottle.
- 23:52Speaker 4: Well, the one he sent me just happened to be, and I had the picture of Freddie now and his wife on it, and so it was like the special release and I was like whoa, and I didn't know that at the time when I'd send it up to you.
- 24:11Speaker 3: And then, if I'm not mistaken, I think that one, the Scotchy bourbon boys, bourbon of the year, and it wasn't even bourbon.
- 24:20Speaker 3: We were just like we were, just like you know, covid's here.
- 24:27Speaker 3: It's not bourbon, but it's, it's.
- 24:30Speaker 3: It won in a table, it's stood up.
- 24:34Speaker 4: It had so much bourbon in it.
- 24:36Speaker 4: How could we not say it in there?
- 24:39Speaker 3: So so little book has a lot of history with us.
- 24:43Speaker 3: But also, knowing Sandy, know we love you, sandy, and everything that you do for us.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Our bourbon queen of the Scotchy bourbon boys and we hung out a lot this past year but that's her son, freddie's her son and and Fred's her what her husband, and so really we've gotten to know Fred and Freddie through Sandy and had had, we've had, a lot of good times with them, whether it be at the festival where they're signing bottles, but they but they know who we are, right From the time you and there and Fred and Freddie is how we met, right, the Booker's painting and you saw the video of me and Fred, fred and Freddie signing my video and that's when you contacted me, right.
- 25:37Speaker 4: And Facebook and I was had started following the Kentucky Bourbon Festival and so I saw, saw that on Facebook and I'd started following it.
- 25:49Speaker 4: And then I got to looking at your pain closer and closer and at the time my bookers was one of my favorite burdens, that I had started drinking and collecting.
- 26:01Speaker 4: That is exactly how we met, Because I'd contacted you through Facebook messenger and I was like dude, you know that picture that you got in your painting.
- 26:15Speaker 4: I just happened to have two bottles or a full bottle that I had just gotten, and just the old liquor store in Atlanta, Georgia.
- 26:28Speaker 3: So that's right there.
- 26:30Speaker 3: We've had so much history with bookers and little book and being able to, you know, being able to taste it before you know what.
- 26:41Speaker 3: What.
- 26:42Speaker 3: What do you advertise?
- 26:42Speaker 3: Booker's my booker's shirt.
- 26:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm wearing a.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Jim Beam shirt.
- 26:48Speaker 3: I had the booker's shirt on but I went with.
- 26:50Speaker 3: I went with the white because I felt that you know that's what we're going to do.
- 26:56Speaker 3: But then, like I said, my my bottle last year was I got that also at the festival and Freddie signed my bottle last year in his the parking, you know, in his driveway.
- 27:11Speaker 3: We went over to his house and he sent Fred and Freddie both signed that and then this year we got it signed at the festival and they were the reason why I wanted to get it signed there is they both were sitting in rocking chairs carving up one of their country hams that Booker used to always like to do it.
- 27:34Speaker 3: now Freddie now does all that smoking and the hams are just.
- 27:39Speaker 3: I mean, if you watch the the interview that we did with Fred we have that on YouTube also you can see Fred and Freddie signing this bottle and I might be able to put that up to coming up, but you can see that same thing.
- 27:59Speaker 4: But I was holding mine up to the camera.
- 28:01Speaker 3: I could see that.
- 28:01Speaker 3: I could see that I love that.
- 28:03Speaker 4: I don't know whether you're your monitor turned around a night or not.
- 28:08Speaker 3: No, I do not, but I can see it on the phone watching to two feeds, just making sure everything's happening.
- 28:14Speaker 3: I show that to everybody on YouTube.
- 28:16Speaker 3: To you had it up there, I got it up there.
- 28:18Speaker 3: We both have the bottle that was.
- 28:21Speaker 3: That was fantastic we had this time.
- 28:24Speaker 3: We had a lot of good times, I mean with with Fred and Freddie.
- 28:30Speaker 3: We and we got, we were with Fred, presented him with mini bottles and everything.
- 28:37Speaker 3: So, overall, our, our, no experience.
- 28:43Speaker 3: This.
- 28:43Speaker 3: This past Kentucky Bourbon Festival was fantastic.
- 28:45Speaker 3: I'm talking about Sandy.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Hopefully we could get there during the Christmas holiday and hang out with her.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Maybe one day that's what I'm trying to do, nash, when we go, I'm going to do a podcast.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Who knows Sandy?
- 29:01Speaker 3: It's about time.
- 29:02Speaker 3: Yeah, we could do.
- 29:04Speaker 3: She did the one early on and it's she's probably much better at podcasts now.
- 29:09Speaker 3: All right, so this chapter right here.
- 29:14Speaker 3: I just wanted to.
- 29:18Speaker 4: I just it poured me in a good healthy pour the very first pour out of my bottle.
- 29:24Speaker 3: So it's.
- 29:25Speaker 3: It is 20, it's the 2023 release.
- 29:31Speaker 3: It's called In Retrospect, but listen to what's in it.
- 29:35Speaker 3: This is a blend made from 18 year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, 17 year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, 10 year Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey.
- 29:48Speaker 3: 9 year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
- 29:52Speaker 3: 5 year straight malt whiskey, finished in Applewood Smoked Barrels.
- 29:57Speaker 3: 4 year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and 4 year Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey.
- 30:04Speaker 3: I mean, when you think about all the different things that are in there, that's just, you know, amazing, right?
- 30:12Speaker 3: It's just amazing.
- 30:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:15Speaker 4: So that is a big blend of Bourbons and Ryes.
- 30:23Speaker 3: right there and just so you he's, wrote Freddie on his label from the start wanted to dedicate this to Booker.
- 30:37Speaker 3: So this is.
- 30:38Speaker 3: It was Booker called Freddie Little Book, and that is what he wanted to do to honor his grandpa.
- 30:45Speaker 3: He said I created Little Book as an honor to my granddaddy, booker, and our shared love for creating unique blends to share with the world.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Freddie no.
- 30:58Speaker 3: But what's really cool is this thing on the side.
- 31:01Speaker 3: Here is the first time that you can do it, because Freddie became the master distiller after chapter six.
- 31:10Speaker 3: So it says, as the eighth generation master distiller Fred be Fred, be no distillery.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Freddie no, pays homage to his granddaddy, booker, by naming his first spirit Little Book.
- 31:25Speaker 3: That's the name Booker gave him.
- 31:27Speaker 3: And now this spirit just the kind Booker would have loved is what Freddie's giving back.
- 31:32Speaker 3: So let's get this in our glass right.
- 31:38Speaker 4: This is like Christmas in a glass.
- 31:42Speaker 3: I pick up a lot of Apple and I also pick up like mulling spices and a little cold clove, a little bit, a little bit of a raise, of like a raisin, yeah, or what.
- 32:02Speaker 3: What is current?
- 32:03Speaker 3: I get a little bit of current, more current.
- 32:08Speaker 4: So this is like Christmas in a glass.
- 32:11Speaker 3: So the color is on it.
- 32:13Speaker 3: They call this deep russet.
- 32:16Speaker 3: Now, I would agree with that.
- 32:17Speaker 3: Everybody.
- 32:18Speaker 3: Take a look at the color.
- 32:19Speaker 3: We got it in our Glen Carons right now.
- 32:22Speaker 3: The proof on this is, I want to say, a hundred and eight 18.1.
- 32:33Speaker 3: So this is a serious proof, right.
- 32:42Speaker 4: Do you realize that that is a different piece that are blended together?
- 32:52Speaker 4: In here Is that that is a feet.
- 32:56Speaker 3: Yes, it is so.
- 32:58Speaker 3: The tasting notes on it are well, they call that deep russet with golden hue as a color.
- 33:07Speaker 3: That's what the Nash just showed you.
- 33:10Speaker 3: And then you've got aroma, subtle sweetness, with notes of clove and spice, and then the taste.
- 33:21Speaker 4: And so much more than that.
- 33:22Speaker 3: The slightly floral, with light smoke, sweet vanilla, followed by caramel, and the finish is warm and full bodied with lingering notes of fresh apple.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Let's take these glasses off.
- 33:41Speaker 3: There we go.
- 33:43Speaker 3: So what are you thinking?
- 33:46Speaker 3: Why don't we, should we barrel bash this?
- 33:48Speaker 3: We haven't barrel bashed something in a while.
- 33:50Speaker 3: And then also, we got to, also, we got to prepare.
- 33:54Speaker 3: When you come up to do the Scotchy bourbon boys bourbon of the year, each one of us has to pick a bourbon and we got to taste them and what they think was the best bourbon and we'll.
- 34:04Speaker 3: We'll taste them and maybe we should even blind it Wouldn't that be fun to have CT me you on that Friday.
- 34:09Speaker 3: If they come up and we have the women, blind us on the four picks for the or five picks for the Scotchy bourbon boys bourbon of the year.
- 34:22Speaker 3: Rachel we probably have to have someone else blind us.
- 34:25Speaker 3: She'd be part of it.
- 34:26Speaker 3: I don't want to leave her out.
- 34:28Speaker 3: So what?
- 34:32Speaker 3: So in the glass this Glenn Karen man it's it sticks, for it forms a clear film that doesn't release.
- 34:45Speaker 3: And then it's really strange how it releases, because it releases in like real thin droplets on the top and then all of a sudden it goes boom, a full leg, you know what I mean.
- 35:01Speaker 3: And the legs just all start to appear on the side.
- 35:04Speaker 3: They don't drip.
- 35:05Speaker 3: The viscosity of this is pretty damn good.
- 35:09Speaker 3: Matt asked if these are your own picks of little book hey the alchemist is watching.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Welcome, alan, glad to see you or know that you're watching.
- 35:31Speaker 3: And then Matt asked are these are own picks of little book?
- 35:35Speaker 3: There's no little book.
- 35:37Speaker 3: Is Freddie knows yearly blend of what of?
- 35:42Speaker 3: He has a full Rome of the centauri, the whole beam centauri inventory.
- 35:54Speaker 3: He could pick Canadian whiskey, he could pick.
- 35:58Speaker 3: You know he's allowed to pick whatever he wants to pick from and he's been doing this for seven years now.
- 36:06Speaker 3: This is the seventh version and this this is the current version of what's out there that's just been released, that you should be able to pick up at your store.
- 36:15Speaker 3: So this is chapter seven in retrospect, and we are tasting it.
- 36:22Speaker 3: Do you want to bash it?
- 36:25Speaker 4: I just want to say cheers to my brother Alan, Alan the Alchemist and also Matt C.
- 36:32Speaker 4: 923 is amazing, but I'm going to tell you one thing it's not years.
- 36:38Speaker 4: Amazing is our honey barrel that we picked.
- 36:42Speaker 4: Oh gosh, that that barrel proof Elijah Craig, that we got coming from the Scotchie bourbon boys, is just a honey barrel and corn pops.
- 36:54Speaker 3: And then very little spikes, so very little Yep.
- 37:06Speaker 3: By the time it gets better, it's going to be nine years old, so all right, yeah, which I think it's nine years old now and it's and well, it will be in November.
- 37:22Speaker 3: That's the November 2nd, I think.
- 37:24Speaker 4: That's what you were saying.
- 37:26Speaker 4: It will be nine years old.
- 37:27Speaker 3: Yep, so let's barrel bash this, all right.
- 37:31Speaker 3: So our barrel bashing Scotchy bourbon boys barrel bashing oh my God, I don't even remember what we call it.
- 37:40Speaker 3: Ratings are are rating system.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Our barrel bashing rating system is based off of four categories it's the nose, it's the taste, it's the finish and it's the body.
- 37:53Speaker 3: So we basically give all the categories up to four barrel bashes, but two categories taste and finish I felt was more important.
- 38:07Speaker 3: So it evolved to you could give it five in these categories and then so that's a total of 18 for a perfect bourbon.
- 38:17Speaker 3: But if it's a superior bourbon on one category you could give it an extra but up, up.
- 38:24Speaker 4: So causing to go back to a podcast with Jeff and his wife were bad but up up.
- 38:36Speaker 3: Yep, it was a but up up to start, so that was right.
- 38:40Speaker 3: I think that was the end of season three.
- 38:43Speaker 3: That was the last podcast of season three.
- 38:45Speaker 3: We were on vacation.
- 38:47Speaker 3: We called it vacation podcast, if I'm not mistaken, and that's where the but up up.
- 38:52Speaker 3: Now it's a but up up, not a but up up.
- 38:55Speaker 3: But anyways, with that said, we'll start it off.
- 39:02Speaker 3: I mean, the thing everybody always likes to do is nose first.
- 39:06Speaker 3: But I don't think nosing first ever gives the nose its quality of what it can be.
- 39:13Speaker 3: Because if you've ever noticed, you drink your bourbon, you nose it to start off, you try to, but then you drink it all and what's left in the thing is just a little bit left and you smell it and it smells so fantastic.
- 39:26Speaker 3: So I think we should start off with taste.
- 39:29Speaker 4: What do you think Really right that empty glass after after it's all over with?
- 39:34Speaker 4: When you go to that empty glass you smell so many more flavors in that empty glass than what you started out with the liquid in.
- 39:43Speaker 3: So All right, here we go, let's taste this baby Now.
- 39:56Speaker 3: It's very good, but it's.
- 40:01Speaker 3: There's some heat to it At that.
- 40:05Speaker 3: 118.1 proof.
- 40:07Speaker 3: I've tasted 125s that are less powerful than this Now.
- 40:16Speaker 3: I mean, it's insane, it fills.
- 40:18Speaker 3: There's this time I got some cinnamon.
- 40:21Speaker 3: I'm picking up some.
- 40:24Speaker 3: I definitely pick up some apple, you know, near the end, and I get that sweetness, but it's still.
- 40:31Speaker 3: There's a heat to this that doesn't allow, like you could, this is a sipping whiskey, there's no doubt, wouldn't you say, you there?
- 40:46Speaker 4: I just took a good sip.
- 40:49Speaker 3: And you took, and it was yeah, it took.
- 40:52Speaker 3: It took your breath away, wasn't it?
- 40:55Speaker 4: Actually, I mean, I was just, I mean just sort of breathing it in my mouth, mm-hmm, my tongue.
- 41:05Speaker 3: It tastes to me, it definitely got my, got my tongue tingling.
- 41:10Speaker 4: That 118 has definitely got my tongue tingling.
- 41:13Speaker 4: From the proof, matt, you're getting a ton of flavor.
- 41:22Speaker 3: Oh, it's a, it's a flavor bomb.
- 41:24Speaker 3: It's got huge, big body and I'm I will tell you, it tastes to me like a candied apple, that there's a little bit of cherry candy kind of flavor, but then there's that apple sweetness, but, you know, sourness all at once.
- 41:45Speaker 4: Almost just a little bit.
- 41:46Speaker 4: I guess this is probably that's where you say Christmas.
- 41:50Speaker 3: I don't know if I should finish.
- 41:55Speaker 4: But up front, oh my gosh, just tons of apple.
- 41:59Speaker 4: I'm getting like raisin A little bit of smokiness or char.
- 42:10Speaker 3: I'll get a little bit yeah.
- 42:15Speaker 4: Just and that little bit of and spice.
- 42:20Speaker 3: Yes, it is very holiday.
- 42:23Speaker 3: I would say you're right, christmas.
- 42:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it's just it's got some really really good holiday flavors.
- 42:35Speaker 4: Maybe even a little bit of nutmeg in there too.
- 42:37Speaker 4: Nutmeg, all the, all, the and the, all the mulling spices like you were talking about.
- 42:45Speaker 4: Yeah, but it's not A little bit of tartness of a cider, you know.
- 42:53Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's not overpowering, it's not over sweet, there's not.
- 42:58Speaker 3: If you don't, if you like some people just don't like sweet Whiskeys well, this isn't sweet.
- 43:06Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a you're not getting a.
- 43:09Speaker 4: You're not getting a ton of honey and the sweetness of the muller and caramel, those, those aren't prevalent here.
- 43:21Speaker 3: Well, right now right now we have Kristi Atkinson watching.
- 43:24Speaker 3: Hey, kristi, good to see you.
- 43:26Speaker 3: Thank you for watching.
- 43:27Speaker 3: So I'm going to bash.
- 43:31Speaker 3: I'll start off with the taste bash.
- 43:33Speaker 3: Okay, you can give it a total of five For taste.
- 43:38Speaker 3: I would say that this is a very unique bourbon or or a whiskey and what I'm looking for.
- 43:46Speaker 3: I really enjoyed.
- 43:47Speaker 3: I'm enjoying it, but I don't think it's some spectacular kind of thing.
- 43:54Speaker 3: It's very unique and I love uniqueness and I love the good flavor.
- 43:58Speaker 3: So I'm going to give it a four After.
- 44:05Speaker 4: I concur with that, because it's spectacular but it's not fabulous, you know fantastic.
- 44:14Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not that number five, you know wow.
- 44:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, it is very complex and very good, very, very good.
- 44:26Speaker 3: And just to give a plug for the spirit of French lick in Ellen Bishop, we are barrel bashing his William Dalton barrel that he dropped three French straights staves in, and that is the barrel that we use to bash.
- 44:41Speaker 3: So here we go for All right, let's go the microphone down there, why you can't hear it?
- 44:51Speaker 3: Nobody can hear it.
- 44:53Speaker 3: Who's saying nobody?
- 44:55Speaker 4: could hear it, I can hear it.
- 44:59Speaker 3: It's so loud that it blows my eardrums out.
- 45:01Speaker 3: Really, no, yeah.
- 45:03Speaker 4: Anyways your?
- 45:04Speaker 3: yes, I got it blocked off so that you can't hear it, because your microphone is supposed to pick you up and I'm supposed my microphone supposed to pick me up, and then on Facebook it's working.
- 45:15Speaker 3: Anyways, that's, that's beside the point.
- 45:17Speaker 3: Next subject so the body.
- 45:22Speaker 3: I think this is a strong point of this bourbon, because you drink this and it's everywhere.
- 45:28Speaker 3: It doesn't let you.
- 45:30Speaker 3: There's nothing that can escape your mouth.
- 45:33Speaker 3: It's all there the whole time, from the front to back your side of your tongue, top of your mouth, it that body is.
- 45:43Speaker 4: It's popping.
- 45:47Speaker 3: There's no can Chucky chew needed.
- 45:48Speaker 3: Yeah, it's unbelievable so.
- 45:51Speaker 3: I'm going to give.
- 45:52Speaker 3: I'll give the body of four with the you go.
- 45:58Speaker 4: I go, you go, you go, I go, you go, like you said, and I'm going to go right there with you.
- 46:10Speaker 4: It's hitting front to back, top side, I mean.
- 46:14Speaker 4: It's not leaving any part of your mouth untouched, it's popping.
- 46:19Speaker 4: I'm giving the body a four.
- 46:22Speaker 3: He gives it a four and tiny does not concur.
- 46:29Speaker 3: He gives it a four with a.
- 46:32Speaker 3: But up, up.
- 46:38Speaker 4: A five.
- 46:39Speaker 3: I think that's one of the better bodies I've had in.
- 46:43Speaker 3: There's no sting on my cheek, just flavor.
- 46:46Speaker 3: I mean, it's the most unique.
- 46:49Speaker 3: There's something about this that's so different than what I normally drink.
- 46:53Speaker 3: And when you think there was 1817.
- 46:56Speaker 3: A 15, a 10.
- 46:59Speaker 3: A five and two fours.
- 47:01Speaker 3: I mean God, what's it?
- 47:03Speaker 3: You know, it's like his playground, right.
- 47:08Speaker 4: Exactly how in the world.
- 47:10Speaker 4: I mean.
- 47:11Speaker 3: I don't, even I I.
- 47:15Speaker 4: I don't know how he started picking from these barrels and started.
- 47:20Speaker 4: You know the percentages that he put in.
- 47:25Speaker 3: You know he said that he picked everything from all the different he picked, you know the ride.
- 47:31Speaker 3: I can only assume as a bookers ride he picked some from bookers, he booked some from.
- 47:39Speaker 3: Basil hey from everything, so he took it all together.
- 47:43Speaker 4: All the barrels that he, that he had put in the previous little books he was able to.
- 47:49Speaker 4: You know all the same barrels store.
- 47:52Speaker 4: You know same barrels and then.
- 47:56Speaker 3: I think it's time we can do the nose, don't you?
- 48:02Speaker 4: Oh, because the finish is the finish right Great.
- 48:08Speaker 3: Now I've got a minor nasal thing going on, but I sure as hell can smell this the apple and the cherries and the currants and the oh my God, it's so good.
- 48:30Speaker 4: Oh, the apple, the smoke, the char.
- 48:35Speaker 3: Yep, I'm going to give this on the nose.
- 48:40Speaker 3: It's a pretty damn good nose, there's nothing off-beat about it, and it's definitely you don't have to.
- 48:48Speaker 3: This is it's not complicated to the point where there's stuff buried in it, it's just right up front, right there, wouldn't you say?
- 49:01Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 49:02Speaker 4: This is probably the best nose that I've had off of urban whiskey balloon that I've ever had in my life.
- 49:17Speaker 4: So I'm going to go four on that, four out of four, no this is more than I don't concur, because I'm going to have to go four and I'm going to have to give it up.
- 49:33Speaker 3: Give it up, give it the but up up.
- 49:35Speaker 3: Oh, because absolutely.
- 49:39Speaker 4: I mean really, this thing is amazing on the nose.
- 49:43Speaker 4: It's just so complex that I mean every time I use it it's got so much going on that you can pull every one of those that I think Freddie was going for.
- 49:58Speaker 4: You can almost pull them out of there each time you get a nose.
- 50:03Speaker 3: So what do you think of the finish?
- 50:04Speaker 3: I mean we're both setting that perfect scores, except the taste.
- 50:17Speaker 3: I think we were at fours.
- 50:18Speaker 3: Right, we both were at fours on the taste, but then we added the one on the next category, so it's so right now we're as if we gave the note of everything.
- 50:29Speaker 4: We're both at 13s.
- 50:32Speaker 3: We're at four nine 13.
- 50:37Speaker 3: You're right.
- 50:38Speaker 4: Yeah, we're both at 13s though.
- 50:40Speaker 3: So what are you going to give this finish?
- 50:42Speaker 3: I mean, it's strong, it's got a strong finish, there's no doubt, and it's long, strong and long, oh long.
- 50:53Speaker 4: I mean it's everywhere you go Whiskey and a bourbon to finish at.
- 50:57Speaker 4: The flavor just keeps going on and on.
- 51:02Speaker 4: It's got the hug.
- 51:05Speaker 3: I like it.
- 51:06Speaker 4: It's got the hug.
- 51:07Speaker 4: It goes down, but it stops right where it should.
- 51:12Speaker 4: It's not going down to where it's burning.
- 51:14Speaker 4: You know it stops right about there.
- 51:18Speaker 3: I'm that, I'm get that apple, but it's probably just a little bit tobacco-y for me, just a little.
- 51:26Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 51:27Speaker 3: That's the only part that I don't think for me, as a whiskey drinker is perfect.
- 51:34Speaker 3: So what are?
- 51:35Speaker 3: You going to give this finish?
- 51:37Speaker 4: Like that little bit of openness.
- 51:39Speaker 3: I like that little bit of tobacco If you like that and you like that and you're going to get this with the age.
- 51:49Speaker 3: That's there.
- 51:50Speaker 3: I mean, he used what.
- 51:52Speaker 3: What can you say, right?
- 51:55Speaker 4: And I'm going to have to give it.
- 51:56Speaker 4: I'm going to have to give it a five.
- 52:01Speaker 3: Gives it a five for a total of 18.
- 52:04Speaker 3: I'm going to give it a four because it's just a little bit on for me personally that there's the.
- 52:17Speaker 3: I do like a sweeter oak, but with the apple combined with a little bit of tobacco and that little bit it gives me a little bit of bitterness.
- 52:27Speaker 3: So it's not perfect like a five, but it is a four.
- 52:31Speaker 3: It's delicious and it lasts forever.
- 52:33Speaker 3: I mean everything.
- 52:35Speaker 3: This is all, folks.
- 52:36Speaker 3: This is how it works, personal preference and I give it a four.
- 52:41Speaker 3: So the official rating barrel bash of the scotchy bourbon boys tonight is 17.5 out of 18.
- 52:51Speaker 3: That's a pretty good.
- 52:53Speaker 3: I say pretty damn good.
- 52:56Speaker 3: Bourbon, right, yeah?
- 52:58Speaker 3: Or whiskey Got to call it a whiskey, it's just, it's a pretty damn good little book.
- 53:04Speaker 3: I mean this, this chapter.
- 53:06Speaker 3: I mean I love this bottle.
- 53:07Speaker 3: You've got the medallion in the wax.
- 53:11Speaker 3: You know, on the bottle it's like that.
- 53:14Speaker 3: And then you've got the thick black wax that you, when you opened it, I really loved.
- 53:20Speaker 3: When I opened mine it almost did the perfect open around.
- 53:26Speaker 3: You know it didn't fall apart, it wasn't brittle.
- 53:28Speaker 3: It's got the little tag with all your information.
- 53:32Speaker 3: It's got the label and this little ribbon.
- 53:35Speaker 3: What?
- 53:37Speaker 4: You know what I like about mine.
- 53:38Speaker 4: It's got Freddie there and Fred knows signature is on it.
- 53:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I like that too.
- 53:44Speaker 3: It's going to go, so right up behind me my little books are up there and it'll go back.
- 53:50Speaker 3: I had a bringer down, but it'll go back up there.
- 53:54Speaker 3: It's just the brand.
- 53:55Speaker 3: This is something that if you come to my house, that I would absolutely share.
- 54:00Speaker 3: So if you've listened to this and you end up at my house, make sure you ask me for a taste.
- 54:05Speaker 3: But little book, also in Ohio, is obtainable.
- 54:09Speaker 3: In the past one time I mean, you've got to go to the right liquor store and at the right time, but they release it and it does get released and it's obtainable.
- 54:19Speaker 3: I've purchased it here, you've purchased it for me or want it, and then I purchased it at the at the bourbon festival.
- 54:27Speaker 3: So I've gotten it in many different ways, but I've been for the last four years, or the last four things it's gotten in my collection.
- 54:36Speaker 3: So it's not something.
- 54:38Speaker 3: Now we got to say the price went up.
- 54:40Speaker 3: Do you remember what the price was at the festival?
- 54:42Speaker 3: As a 149, this time.
- 54:45Speaker 4: I think it was just a little bit more than that.
- 54:48Speaker 4: I think it was like 159 at the festival, but MSRP is 149.99.
- 54:55Speaker 4: Right.
- 54:56Speaker 3: And when we first started this I mean it was last year, I believe it was 129.99.
- 55:03Speaker 3: And everybody was at 129.
- 55:05Speaker 3: But this year whiskey did go crazy, there's no doubt about it, with their pricing right.
- 55:11Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 55:12Speaker 4: Well, it's not just that, but everything.
- 55:17Speaker 4: If you can hear this, everything went up in price.
- 55:20Speaker 4: I mean my line of work, your line of work.
- 55:25Speaker 3: Oh yeah, the whole world's going up in price.
- 55:27Speaker 3: It's just now.
- 55:28Speaker 3: I have to admit I've been.
- 55:30Speaker 3: You know my line of work.
- 55:31Speaker 3: It's like in my wife's line.
- 55:33Speaker 3: We're doing better.
- 55:35Speaker 3: So we were able to.
- 55:37Speaker 3: I think I obtained easily the.
- 55:40Speaker 3: I didn't come back with the number of bottles I always do, but I came back with way more expensive bottles.
- 55:49Speaker 3: You know, I think I got the heaven hill.
- 55:51Speaker 3: What?
- 55:56Speaker 3: What do you laugh at that?
- 56:03Speaker 4: I said, oh, I didn't get in trouble till after I got home.
- 56:10Speaker 3: Oh, as far as how much you did.
- 56:12Speaker 3: No, my wife how much?
- 56:13Speaker 4: 47 dollars.
- 56:14Speaker 4: You can't even fit them in the closet.
- 56:19Speaker 4: Now I knew it.
- 56:20Speaker 4: Can I make room back in the kitchen cupboard?
- 56:23Speaker 4: Hell, no yeah.
- 56:26Speaker 3: So.
- 56:27Speaker 3: So there's some old bottles you could send up my way.
- 56:30Speaker 3: Yeah, send them up If anybody doesn't know that story.
- 56:38Speaker 3: When Supernash first early on, when, when Mrs Nash came came to have a stay because she was getting knee surgery at his house, he was like I really need to clear some of these bottles up.
- 56:56Speaker 3: I'm sending them up to you because he needed some shelves for you know, cookware which she wasn't cooking.
- 57:04Speaker 3: But he knew she did, and he, she just knew.
- 57:08Speaker 3: And so all of a sudden I'm just up here just getting bottle after bottle going.
- 57:12Speaker 3: Ah, so you know.
- 57:14Speaker 3: Then she moved back out for a while and when she moved back in I was just like, yes, and the bottles haven't come yet, but they'll come a time.
- 57:26Speaker 3: If they're going to come, they will.
- 57:28Speaker 3: I know they're coming.
