- 1:48Speaker 1: today's episode, Dizzy Riding Demrick. I've been knowing Disney Right
- 1:52Speaker 1: since he was Dizzy d Flashy in Vegas before he
- 1:56Speaker 1: was on Funk Volume. I met Dizzy Right for the
- 2:01Speaker 1: first time at a talent show at Chic Shoes at
- 2:03Speaker 1: the Boulevard Mall in Las Vegas, and you know, me
- 2:07Speaker 1: and him have had a great relationship over the years.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I'm been a big supporter from his from the jump
- 2:14Speaker 1: and I'm happy to talk to him and of course
- 2:16Speaker 1: my guy Demrick, who's been doing his thing. That guy's
- 2:18Speaker 1: like a utility knife man. He's he's always working, you know,
- 2:23Speaker 1: doing serial killer projects on the road would be real.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Doing stuff with Dizzy, doing his solo stuff, doing this
- 2:29Speaker 1: stuff with DJ Hoppins Stony Point. So we have a
- 2:32Speaker 1: nice discussion with Disney riding Demrick Episode number fourteen of
- 2:36Speaker 1: the Boutlet Cap Podcast. Let's get into it Buelet Cap Podcast.
- 2:42Speaker 1: We got two special guests. This is the first time
- 2:44Speaker 1: we've had multiple guests on the Bootleg Cap podcast. Two
- 2:46Speaker 1: close friends of mine. They just got an incredible body
- 2:50Speaker 1: of work that they dropped was it last month? Almost
- 2:53Speaker 1: two months ago? Now? Right? Men in June? Right? Yeah,
- 2:55Speaker 1: blaze with us too, Denrick, Let's get that Mike a
- 2:59Speaker 1: little closer to your mouth. Okay, cool, anyway, what's up guys,
- 3:05Speaker 1: piece bro whatever, Bro, thank you for having us of course. Man,
- 3:08Speaker 1: you guys are fam I was telling Demrik this the
- 3:10Speaker 1: other day, like, this is a great body of work.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Thank you, bro. Yeah. Thanks. Now you guys went through
- 3:17Speaker 1: Smokers Club. Shout out to the homie Johnny shipes like
- 3:20Speaker 1: that was kind of I know that that's kind of
- 3:22Speaker 1: like a new offshoot of like what cinematic does. What
- 3:25Speaker 1: is like what was the motivation behind like working with
- 3:26Speaker 1: Smokers Club for this project, besides the fact that both
- 3:29Speaker 1: of you guys are degenerate stoner's Well, I've been a
- 3:32Speaker 1: fan of Smokers Club for a long time. I always
- 3:35Speaker 1: wanted to be a part of their festivals. But I
- 3:37Speaker 1: had great tours and shit, yeh had a bunch of
- 3:39Speaker 1: things going on back in the day. And when I
- 3:42Speaker 1: found out that they wanted to start releasing music, I
- 3:44Speaker 1: thought it would be dope to just kind of mix
- 3:46Speaker 1: what we got going on with what they got going on,
- 3:48Speaker 1: because down on the East coast, right here on the
- 3:50Speaker 1: West coast, so we thought it could be a dope, man.
- 3:53Speaker 1: And then you guys creatively, I mean when you when
- 3:56Speaker 1: you broke away from Funk Volume, or when everyone broke
- 3:58Speaker 1: away from Funk Volume rather and you started still moving
- 4:02Speaker 1: Demrick was, I want to say, the first artist you announced, right, yeah,
- 4:05Speaker 1: as a part of the crew. What is like your guys' relationship,
- 4:11Speaker 1: your guys' friendship. You guys have made so much music together.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I think a lot of fans just automatically associate you
- 4:16Speaker 1: guys together, like it's got to be super easy to
- 4:19Speaker 1: just like knock Out a project, right, It's just like
- 4:21Speaker 1: probably natural. Like I feel like we tore. We spent
- 4:26Speaker 1: a lot of time like out on the road together,
- 4:28Speaker 1: and we just kind of picked up the habit of
- 4:31Speaker 1: just you know, getting off the tour bus on days
- 4:35Speaker 1: off and renting studios so we can smoke and chill
- 4:37Speaker 1: and make music. And I feel like once we got
- 4:40Speaker 1: into the studios and we started making music, we like,
- 4:43Speaker 1: first off, this shit is fire and it's really easy
- 4:46Speaker 1: to create facts that's fair. It's almost like I got
- 4:50Speaker 1: the vibe of like Method Man, Red Men, Blackout, like
- 4:53Speaker 1: the new era of that with this, you know what
- 4:54Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like it just had that energy, you know
- 4:56Speaker 1: what I'm saying, That's the vibe he was going for. Yeah,
- 4:58Speaker 1: you know, so if Funk Volume was still going, I
- 5:01Speaker 1: was trying to get Demrick signed the Fun Volume, So
- 5:03Speaker 1: that's kind of like one of the last things that
- 5:05Speaker 1: I was trying to do before the label dismantled. So
- 5:09Speaker 1: you know, just going over into still Moving was it
- 5:13Speaker 1: was kind of already happened in that way, So the
- 5:15Speaker 1: vibe was already there. We was already vibing off of
- 5:18Speaker 1: each other, So being able to bring it back for
- 5:21Speaker 1: a second time. That's just purely being on the road,
- 5:25Speaker 1: being inspired, looking at how the fans were responding to
- 5:28Speaker 1: the first one. Man, it's been four years, maybe we
- 5:31Speaker 1: could give them another one, you know, And that's kind
- 5:33Speaker 1: of that's kind of the motivation I wanted to talk
- 5:35Speaker 1: to you guys about, like each one of you guys
- 5:37Speaker 1: have storied independent careers like Demrick. Obviously, I think the
- 5:42Speaker 1: first time I met you, you were b Real's hype man.
- 5:45Speaker 1: This was like an O nine in Boise, Idaho. I
- 5:47Speaker 1: think I think Busybone was supposed to be on the show,
- 5:49Speaker 1: but he was super late. Yeah, and he ended up
- 5:52Speaker 1: not showing up. Yeah, by the way, wild Busybone story
- 5:56Speaker 1: to share with you about that night because I ended
- 5:58Speaker 1: up having to pick up for the airport later and
- 5:59Speaker 1: we did like a little offshoot like show across the street.
- 6:02Speaker 1: It was. That guy's interesting to say the least. But
- 6:06Speaker 1: obviously you have a storied independent career. Dizzy, Like I
- 6:10Speaker 1: remember being in Vegas and when you were Dizzy, d flashy,
- 6:14Speaker 1: and you know you kind of had like the youth
- 6:16Speaker 1: like turned up in Vegas and you know, then you
- 6:20Speaker 1: transitioning from that to dizzy ride and doing smokeout conversations
- 6:24Speaker 1: and your funk volume run. How how are you guys
- 6:30Speaker 1: able to like sustain what's going on with the COVID shit,
- 6:34Speaker 1: not being able to go on the road, Like, what
- 6:37Speaker 1: are some of the ways you guys are are are
- 6:39Speaker 1: are are I guess innovating to kind of keep keep
- 6:41Speaker 1: bread coming in on the music shit? Because I feel
- 6:43Speaker 1: like a lot of people who don't, who are artists
- 6:46Speaker 1: who might not necessarily have be the smartest with their money,
- 6:51Speaker 1: probably are like having a rough time right now because
- 6:54Speaker 1: you know a lot of artists depend on that bag.
- 6:55Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying to hit you know the back.
- 6:58Speaker 1: If you've burned through the bag and and you was
- 7:00Speaker 1: you was planning on other tours coming right up, you
- 7:04Speaker 1: might be in a bad spot right now. Yeah, you
- 7:06Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. But I think for me, it's
- 7:10Speaker 1: just about getting consistent. You know. It's as far as
- 7:13Speaker 1: like always going you know, doing a project and going
- 7:16Speaker 1: out on the road, doing two tours and then coming
- 7:18Speaker 1: back and getting something else together and just kind of
- 7:20Speaker 1: like keeping the process going. You know. I realized that
- 7:23Speaker 1: the battles really won in the studio, so it's about
- 7:25Speaker 1: locking into the studio and seeing what I could create
- 7:29Speaker 1: there now that I have more time on my hands,
- 7:31Speaker 1: you know, to just take out take away the road shit,
- 7:34Speaker 1: double up, double down. Like, obviously you got your story
- 7:37Speaker 1: that's going, like you got a lot of other shit
- 7:38Speaker 1: going on. But like, I do feel like you've you've
- 7:41Speaker 1: done a really good job of like navigating the indie
- 7:44Speaker 1: game throughout your career and even like since the Funk
- 7:46Speaker 1: volume shit kind of went away, because I know that
- 7:48Speaker 1: was still independent per se, but like I feel like
- 7:50Speaker 1: you've done a great job of like building like monetizing
- 7:55Speaker 1: your brand independently since since that had kind of gone away,
- 7:58Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like, what are the things
- 8:00Speaker 1: that you would kind of give pointers to artists who
- 8:02Speaker 1: are watching this like it even fuck the COVID shit
- 8:06Speaker 1: put that to the side, just like being independent, Like,
- 8:09Speaker 1: what are the things you think that that you might
- 8:11Speaker 1: might might see other artists making mistakes with that you
- 8:13Speaker 1: might have learned from, even mistakes that you might have
- 8:15Speaker 1: made that you learned from. Yeah, one hundred percent. Actually,
- 8:18Speaker 1: me and Demmock had a conversation last night that kind
- 8:20Speaker 1: of like relates to this question a little bit, And
- 8:24Speaker 1: it's like having a balance of knowing when you're doing
- 8:28Speaker 1: something for your soul and knowing when you're doing something
- 8:30Speaker 1: for the bag. You know, and all the bags ain't
- 8:35Speaker 1: worth going to get. All the bags ain't gonna be
- 8:37Speaker 1: good for your soul, and some of the things that's
- 8:40Speaker 1: good for your soul ain't gonna give you a really
- 8:42Speaker 1: good bag. So you got to have that balance on
- 8:44Speaker 1: being able to figure out, you know, what keeps you going,
- 8:47Speaker 1: what keeps you driving, like what keeps the wheels turning?
- 8:50Speaker 1: Really and for me, it's always, you know, of course,
- 8:53Speaker 1: creating music. I'm always playing the head, so I'm always
- 8:58Speaker 1: That's the one thing that COVID shit kind of did
- 9:01Speaker 1: to me. It kind of prevented me from being able
- 9:04Speaker 1: to plan ahead, which I wasn't. I haven't been used
- 9:06Speaker 1: to that ever since I got in the game and
- 9:08Speaker 1: I've been navigating. I'm always thinking three steps ahead, you know,
- 9:11Speaker 1: so I'm never running into that time period and kind
- 9:14Speaker 1: of looking around and figuring out like what I need
- 9:16Speaker 1: to do, but more just like you know, having a
- 9:20Speaker 1: plan in play, so when I get there, you know,
- 9:22Speaker 1: I know exactly what I'm doing. So for me, it's
- 9:24Speaker 1: just really about like creating the music side of things
- 9:29Speaker 1: and utilizing this time to work with different artists and
- 9:33Speaker 1: be inspired by different artists. And you know, we're all
- 9:38Speaker 1: on different levels, so it could be somebody bigger that
- 9:40Speaker 1: can inspire you, somebody smaller that can inspire you, but
- 9:44Speaker 1: you know, figuring out that hunger, finding that hunger and
- 9:46Speaker 1: running with it. I wanted to ask you, Dizzy, because
- 9:49Speaker 1: you had like a there was a stretch right where
- 9:51Speaker 1: you were on the Freshman cover and the funk volume
- 9:54Speaker 1: shit seemed to be doing very well because the Warner
- 9:58Speaker 1: situation had happened, and your album I think you were
- 10:01Speaker 1: the only Were you the only person who ended up
- 10:02Speaker 1: putting the album outrough Warner officially or did one of
- 10:05Speaker 1: Hobson's album come up? I think one came Yeah. And
- 10:09Speaker 1: by the way, Warner dropped the ball on your album
- 10:11Speaker 1: because I remember I couldn't find it the best buy
- 10:14Speaker 1: they did. I was trying to go by like buy
- 10:15Speaker 1: our best buy, and I was like, bro, what the
- 10:17Speaker 1: fuck they did? Hitting b Yeah. The coldest part is
- 10:22Speaker 1: that they told me that it was going to be
- 10:24Speaker 1: a real rollout, like it was gonna be in I
- 10:27Speaker 1: wouldn't even have told people they could get it at
- 10:29Speaker 1: best Buy if you know, they didn't gass me up.
- 10:31Speaker 1: But you know, it's just trials and tribulations. I wanted
- 10:33Speaker 1: to ask you, man, because like I feel like there
- 10:37Speaker 1: was there's you know, you were I remember I think
- 10:40Speaker 1: the I want to say, the last time I might
- 10:43Speaker 1: have saw you live was with Logic in Orlando. Whatever
- 10:50Speaker 1: tour that was, Whatever Logic tour that was. Was that
- 10:52Speaker 1: for a second album? I think under pressures for his
- 10:55Speaker 1: first album. Yeah, but I'm curious, Like, no, U incredible
- 11:01Speaker 1: it was the truth story, yeah, in incredible truth. But
- 11:05Speaker 1: I'm curious, man, because like you've obviously done records with
- 11:08Speaker 1: some of the biggest artists in the world, and like
- 11:10Speaker 1: with the Funk Volume thing imploding and then you having
- 11:12Speaker 1: to kind of figure this out for yourself moving forward.
- 11:15Speaker 1: I'm sure you could have at that point in time
- 11:19Speaker 1: probably gotten a deal if you wanted one, and did
- 11:22Speaker 1: the major label thing, which would have been new to
- 11:24Speaker 1: you kind of right, but you decided to kind of
- 11:27Speaker 1: just hunker down and stick to the independent shit. Like
- 11:30Speaker 1: why why that as opposed to you know, trying to
- 11:34Speaker 1: go get a deal with Atlantic or whoever the fuck? Yeah,
- 11:38Speaker 1: because I like, I don't have that. Sometimes I feel
- 11:42Speaker 1: like I don't have the same desires as some of
- 11:43Speaker 1: these other artists, Like I don't really want it all
- 11:46Speaker 1: too fast. Getting it all too fast kind of makes
- 11:49Speaker 1: me nervous. I grew up with the bare minimum, so
- 11:53Speaker 1: I feel like I know how to maneuver off of
- 11:55Speaker 1: what feels to me like a lot right now. Even
- 11:58Speaker 1: in the independent game, I feel like the love of
- 12:00Speaker 1: the traveling to being able to create the music, it's
- 12:03Speaker 1: what I want to do, being able to work with
- 12:06Speaker 1: different artists, and like having a range, a wide range
- 12:09Speaker 1: of like sounds that I can tap in with different people.
- 12:13Speaker 1: And I just feel like this is what I want it.
- 12:16Speaker 1: You know, it don't It's not as glamorous from the
- 12:19Speaker 1: outside looking then, But you know, I make good money,
- 12:22Speaker 1: I own my masters, you know. I'm intact with my soul,
- 12:25Speaker 1: my spirit, you know, and I do what I want.
- 12:29Speaker 1: You know. I can move in my own pace, Like
- 12:30Speaker 1: if something is something don't feel right, I could pull
- 12:33Speaker 1: the plug, you know. But I can also take chances,
- 12:36Speaker 1: you know, I can, Like I like being in control
- 12:39Speaker 1: of when I can when I want to, like maybe
- 12:42Speaker 1: take a chance, go out on the edge. A little
- 12:44Speaker 1: bit and just that kind of like slow paced grind.
- 12:47Speaker 1: So I've always been I guess like content bro with
- 12:52Speaker 1: being independent and watching it grow slowly and just every
- 12:57Speaker 1: year is something new, whether it's the strains getting more strained,
- 13:00Speaker 1: or it's the store and people coming out to the store.
- 13:03Speaker 1: I just see like if you just slowly keep pushing
- 13:06Speaker 1: at something, she would just keep unfolding. You know. I
- 13:09Speaker 1: was gonna say, like everyone has their own success is
- 13:14Speaker 1: and always we look at this music industry and it's
- 13:17Speaker 1: so superficial, right. It's like people will look at you
- 13:21Speaker 1: and be like, ah, man, like, well you ain't. You
- 13:24Speaker 1: ain't doing what this person's doing and this person's doing.
- 13:26Speaker 1: But I think success for everyone and happiness is subjective.
- 13:32Speaker 1: You don't absolutely for a fact. And if you think
- 13:35Speaker 1: about it, a lot of the stuff with some of
- 13:37Speaker 1: these you know, some artists that are signed, you know,
- 13:41Speaker 1: it don't when the curtain closed, it look a lot
- 13:43Speaker 1: different backstage and it looks in front of stage, you know.
- 13:46Speaker 1: I mean, so it's it's like whatever you feel comfortable with,
- 13:50Speaker 1: do you always Sometimes those people don't have the right
- 13:53Speaker 1: control something. A lot of times they don't have the money,
- 13:57Speaker 1: you know, you're taking money. You owe people a lot
- 13:59Speaker 1: of money. You know, the stakes are higher, you know,
- 14:01Speaker 1: so everybody's in your business trying to tell you what
- 14:04Speaker 1: to do and what not to do. And it just
- 14:06Speaker 1: depends on how you want to do this music thing.
- 14:08Speaker 1: You know. The cool shit is like you able to
- 14:11Speaker 1: do it. It's big enough. The pool is big enough
- 14:14Speaker 1: for people to do it every which way to get
- 14:16Speaker 1: to it. And at the end of the day, you know,
- 14:18Speaker 1: it's your legacy you leave them behind. And how many
- 14:22Speaker 1: people you're gonna have involved with it? Yeah? Demmrick like you,
- 14:25Speaker 1: you've been around some of the more legendary I mean
- 14:28Speaker 1: obviously Cypress Hill, you know, Exhibit, serial Killer, Shit Dizzy
- 14:34Speaker 1: and shout out TDJ Hopper too. Man. I feel like
- 14:37Speaker 1: every time I see Diszey, I usually se DJ Hopper right,
- 14:42Speaker 1: shout out to hop Man. Just put a new album
- 14:44Speaker 1: out too, hop in Friends part too, So go support
- 14:46Speaker 1: that man. That's the homie right there. But what I mean, shit,
- 14:51Speaker 1: you were just telling me like serial Killers Force coming, Yeah,
- 14:54Speaker 1: fourth project man with dudes that I you know, shout
- 14:58Speaker 1: out Exhibit and be Real. It's like I just remember
- 15:01Speaker 1: wanting to rap for be real and just wanted to
- 15:04Speaker 1: just get into I was hoping that maybe I could
- 15:06Speaker 1: get into the studio with him and and do some
- 15:08Speaker 1: songs with him, to being on tour with them, to
- 15:11Speaker 1: travel into even tapping into uh, introducing me to the
- 15:15Speaker 1: songwriting or the or the touring and and all of
- 15:19Speaker 1: that type of stuff, and then actually being able to
- 15:21Speaker 1: loop it all the way around to being in a
- 15:23Speaker 1: group with them and four projects later. That's crazy. It's
- 15:27Speaker 1: crazy who you said, but the four like you a
- 15:29Speaker 1: doctor Dre might be touching something on the project. I mean,
- 15:32Speaker 1: you know, I we'll let that unfold when it when
- 15:35Speaker 1: it folks. But I'll tell you this, maybe twisting some knobs.
- 15:38Speaker 1: You know, we shall we shall, we shall see. But
- 15:41Speaker 1: uh but ship shout out busting rhymes, he on there,
- 15:44Speaker 1: shout out, Uh. Snoop he on there and DJ Quicks
- 15:48Speaker 1: on the record, you know, and obvious that's big. It's
- 15:51Speaker 1: crazy for me, you know, it's like get being on
- 15:54Speaker 1: the even just being on a record with Snoop and
- 15:57Speaker 1: Quick and Bust. I'm like, damn, I'm riding you see,
- 16:00Speaker 1: I'm going bar and bar with bus to bus. You know,
- 16:02Speaker 1: if it feels good. You know, one of my favorite
- 16:05Speaker 1: guests versus or guest sogs you ever are? You were
- 16:08Speaker 1: on the Faded record with Berner and be Real right now,
- 16:10Speaker 1: I was on, I was on I wasn't on that one. No,
- 16:13Speaker 1: you were on another one on that same album though,
- 16:15Speaker 1: uh was a patron Patrol. I was gonna say Perks
- 16:20Speaker 1: and Patrol, Zanex and Patron. Yeah, Yo, But like, what
- 16:25Speaker 1: are some things that you've learned from being around be Real?
- 16:27Speaker 1: Being around Exhibit because a lot of people don't know
- 16:28Speaker 1: man exhibits. Like a lot of people be like, well,
- 16:30Speaker 1: what happened to Exhibit? But like Exhibit is a boss
- 16:33Speaker 1: on some other ship. He got his alcohol shit and
- 16:36Speaker 1: his weed shit is out of here, like, and he
- 16:39Speaker 1: definitely did the movies and the television and just shot
- 16:42Speaker 1: the Triple X State whatever Triple X he was in
- 16:45Speaker 1: with all of these Cube State of the Union. I
- 16:47Speaker 1: definitely learned a lot from him, just on how to
- 16:49Speaker 1: like move through the game and just you gotta be
- 16:52Speaker 1: confident and get into it. And he's you know, both
- 16:56Speaker 1: him and be Real also taught me about diversifying and
- 16:59Speaker 1: having multiple different things and even Dizzy Dizzey's killing it.
- 17:02Speaker 1: By the way, we're gonna get to the guy damn
- 17:03Speaker 1: the dizzy o G. Yeah, well shit, you know, shout out,
- 17:06Speaker 1: shout out gas Cod because I got Demrix Gaslado and Demricks,
- 17:09Speaker 1: Mac Tonight and Cushco. We got Stony Point with Hapa
- 17:13Speaker 1: selling and the stores in Vegas. So it's like diversifying
- 17:17Speaker 1: and tapping into these different uh, just these different markets
- 17:21Speaker 1: that are natural to what you do. What you do
- 17:24Speaker 1: is is a big part of it. It's like, I've
- 17:27Speaker 1: been doing this shit already for a long time, so
- 17:29Speaker 1: it's just about doing it on on the next level
- 17:31Speaker 1: and trying to make sure that now you're putting a
- 17:34Speaker 1: stamp on it so that other people could try what
- 17:37Speaker 1: you think is fired. Yeah, I wanted Dizzey, I wanted
- 17:39Speaker 1: you to kind of give me some insight on like
- 17:41Speaker 1: on the on the weed side of ship, right because
- 17:44Speaker 1: you got your your strain that's doing really well. I
- 17:47Speaker 1: feel like I see a lot of dispensaries. I know
- 17:52Speaker 1: it's an azy, I know it's I mean it's everywhere.
- 17:56Speaker 1: What because I don't think a lot of people understand
- 17:59Speaker 1: how how the weed shit works like legally yet still
- 18:03Speaker 1: it's still kind of like wait what like so for you.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Is it like they're licensing your name? Is it another
- 18:09Speaker 1: company you're working with? Like how hands honor you with
- 18:13Speaker 1: the strain and the actual brand and the actual weeders,
- 18:17Speaker 1: because you know a lot of times people will just
- 18:20Speaker 1: like license your likeliness for whatever. The fuck? Right is it? Like?
- 18:24Speaker 1: What is that? It's similar to that. Yeah, it's pretty
- 18:26Speaker 1: much like that where they're license and my name and
- 18:29Speaker 1: my face pretty much. But back in two thousand, I
- 18:33Speaker 1: think it was thirteen or fourteen, I was hands on
- 18:38Speaker 1: deck with like helping create the strain, you know, finding
- 18:41Speaker 1: the right strain. They were crossing a lot of different
- 18:44Speaker 1: strains to try to find what would be the diz Og.
- 18:47Speaker 1: So shout out the Crown Genetics because the Crown Og
- 18:51Speaker 1: and the King Louis is the cross that we use
- 18:53Speaker 1: to get diz og. And it's been that way ever since.
- 18:56Speaker 1: You know, we knew back then that we was futuristic.
- 19:02Speaker 1: You know, it felt like it was just strong as
- 19:05Speaker 1: fuck potent and it was like the next level of weeds.
- 19:09Speaker 1: So we knew that it would it would it would
- 19:12Speaker 1: live for a long time. So Dizzy o G has
- 19:15Speaker 1: been doing really great and now we got the cookies.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Now we're doing Dizzey cookies. Okay's my first train of cookies.
- 19:23Speaker 1: So we tapping into something like that around here, starting
- 19:26Speaker 1: in California. So I'm excited, man, Just taking of the
- 19:29Speaker 1: day at a time, not moving too fast, you know,
- 19:32Speaker 1: and really trying to build the brand. You know, my
- 19:36Speaker 1: face is on it, like your face is on it,
- 19:38Speaker 1: you know, being able to walk in the dispensary and
- 19:40Speaker 1: see my smiling face. Man, I'm like, I'm gonna push
- 19:42Speaker 1: this ship to the death for sure. Yeah. Man, So
- 19:45Speaker 1: it's been cool for a lot of fans that don't
- 19:49Speaker 1: know behind the scenes. I don't know where you're at
- 19:52Speaker 1: with the situation, but I had a conversation with Dame
- 19:56Speaker 1: and him and Hopson are back kosher. Yeah, they're back talking.
- 20:00Speaker 1: There might be something happening between them two, not necessarily music,
- 20:05Speaker 1: but something which I never thought would ever happened. Me
- 20:10Speaker 1: and you, I mean, obviously you're really close to the situation,
- 20:11Speaker 1: but you know, I mean, you guys are my guys
- 20:13Speaker 1: and Dames. You know, I've had a good relationship with
- 20:15Speaker 1: Dame for a long time, and I thought that that
- 20:17Speaker 1: was like when he called me and told me that
- 20:20Speaker 1: they were called was like You're for real the fuck now,
- 20:24Speaker 1: I had asked him, like, so, does this mean the
- 20:27Speaker 1: gang is getting back together? Now? This was like a
- 20:30Speaker 1: month ago and he and he had told me that
- 20:32Speaker 1: you and him might have had like some weird energy.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Now I don't know you and Dame, but like, what
- 20:37Speaker 1: is that? What is the By the way, shout out
- 20:41Speaker 1: to Jared Jaren for being one of the best people
- 20:43Speaker 1: in the world, But what is like your interest in
- 20:47Speaker 1: getting the crew back together? Per se you Hopson and
- 20:51Speaker 1: Jaren And maybe even if it's just a song, not
- 20:55Speaker 1: even like Funk Volume coming back or on the album,
- 20:58Speaker 1: like just the record something like that, what's your interest
- 21:01Speaker 1: in that? I would be I would be down. I'm
- 21:04Speaker 1: not gonna say that my interest is crazy high. Like
- 21:07Speaker 1: it's something that I'm just extremely looking forward to, but
- 21:11Speaker 1: I would like to see it happen eventually. It's crazy
- 21:14Speaker 1: because as close as I was to the situation, I
- 21:16Speaker 1: disconnected myself so much. You know, when me and Dame
- 21:20Speaker 1: kind of had our little falling out and the energy
- 21:22Speaker 1: was kind of where between us, I completely just kind
- 21:25Speaker 1: of detached myself from all thoughts of moving forward in
- 21:30Speaker 1: any kind of direction with like Funk Volume with that
- 21:32Speaker 1: old shit. Yeah, with the old shit I was trying
- 21:34Speaker 1: to figure out. I kind of felt like it put
- 21:37Speaker 1: me in a funk a little bit because the fans
- 21:39Speaker 1: were kind of like, you know, I had never did
- 21:41Speaker 1: nothing to have the fans you know, on my page
- 21:46Speaker 1: or coming at me with so much negative energy. This
- 21:48Speaker 1: was kind of this kind of happened after the breakup,
- 21:50Speaker 1: so it was kind of all like, I didn't do
- 21:52Speaker 1: nothing wrong. Yeah, it was all kind of new for me,
- 21:54Speaker 1: you know, new energy. So I had to figure out
- 21:56Speaker 1: how to shake that and like do my own thing.
- 21:58Speaker 1: But I absolutely don't know the details about Dame and
- 22:04Speaker 1: Hop right now, like I was supposed to. Actually, I
- 22:07Speaker 1: was gonna get with Dame a couple of weeks ago
- 22:08Speaker 1: in Vegas, and we weren't able to make it happen.
- 22:10Speaker 1: But he's probably stuck at the craps table. Probably man
- 22:15Speaker 1: is a gambling man. Oh yeah, he gets his money,
- 22:17Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. But yeah, we'll see, we'll see.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I definitely think that it's a I think it's a
- 22:24Speaker 1: beautiful thing to see Hop step into his own you know.
- 22:27Speaker 1: I know that he's been doing some soul searching. He's
- 22:30Speaker 1: been traveling, and I really wanted that for him as
- 22:33Speaker 1: a hummy, even back when we were on the same
- 22:35Speaker 1: label together. So you know, if he was able to
- 22:39Speaker 1: like tap into some some higher energies to make him,
- 22:43Speaker 1: you know, see things a little differently and feel better
- 22:46Speaker 1: about himself. Like I'm off, I'm all about getting around
- 22:49Speaker 1: that type of energy, and you and him had recently
- 22:51Speaker 1: kind of correct me if I'm wrong, but you and
- 22:54Speaker 1: him had kind of recently had a a resurgence in
- 22:58Speaker 1: your friendship again first communication and like we did getting
- 23:02Speaker 1: on the same page again, like it just kind of
- 23:04Speaker 1: communicating because I feel like there was so much man
- 23:07Speaker 1: during that time. I remember, like that last tory y'all
- 23:10Speaker 1: did together. I remember like there was just so much
- 23:12Speaker 1: weird shit, like Hops had call it out Crooked Eye
- 23:14Speaker 1: and all the guys and like just putting you in Jared,
- 23:16Speaker 1: like yeah, we're catching Like I had heard that you
- 23:25Speaker 1: guys had kind of reconnected recently and like just kind
- 23:28Speaker 1: of I guess it came to a good place more recently.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Is that's true? Yeah, Yeah, there was some things that
- 23:35Speaker 1: I didn't know about the fallout that wasn't made really
- 23:38Speaker 1: clear to me that I found out maybe two years later.
- 23:43Speaker 1: I hadn't talked to Hopson in like two or three
- 23:45Speaker 1: years or some shit like that, and then I finally
- 23:47Speaker 1: hit him and asked him a question. And from there,
- 23:51Speaker 1: you know, I have realized that there was it was
- 23:54Speaker 1: some extreme miscommunication when when funk volume was like falling apart.
- 23:59Speaker 1: So we was able to kind of hash things out
- 24:02Speaker 1: from there. And then last year I did go pop
- 24:07Speaker 1: up on him. Well, he actually popped up on me
- 24:10Speaker 1: and a lambbo. Yeah, I say, I'm on my tour bus,
- 24:15Speaker 1: but my boy popped up in the lembo. So I
- 24:18Speaker 1: was just super proud of him, and we was able
- 24:20Speaker 1: to just you know, get on good terms. And you
- 24:23Speaker 1: never know, man, you never know the fans might get something.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Is it kind of like a gifted a curse having
- 24:27Speaker 1: fans like that? Oh for sure, because it's like like
- 24:31Speaker 1: you said, it's like yo, they're hitting like like I
- 24:33Speaker 1: feel like like those kind of fans like you know,
- 24:35Speaker 1: shout out to strange music or like like those kind
- 24:38Speaker 1: of fans are so crazy. Yeah, I tried to shift
- 24:41Speaker 1: away from those kind of fans. Actually, I kind of
- 24:43Speaker 1: let them weary theyself out of the dizzy, right, vibes,
- 24:48Speaker 1: you know, if that wasn't what they was into. Cause
- 24:50Speaker 1: it's like, I'm not like a I fuck all the
- 24:53Speaker 1: other rappers, but we fuck with you, you know type
- 24:55Speaker 1: of dude. Like I don't want those kind of fans.
- 24:57Speaker 1: I want fans that are real, like like music, enjoy music,
- 25:01Speaker 1: and know how to pick the shit they like and
- 25:03Speaker 1: know how to stay away from the shit that they
- 25:05Speaker 1: don't like. But I don't want to be a part
- 25:07Speaker 1: of like, ah, fuck, this person fucked this person, but
- 25:09Speaker 1: you to go, you know what I mean? It was
- 25:11Speaker 1: just But then again, you can't you can't control how
- 25:14Speaker 1: people think, and you can't control what kind of fans
- 25:16Speaker 1: you have, so you gotta kind of roll with the punches.
- 25:18Speaker 1: It's just a learning experience, that's fair. Man. You guys
- 25:23Speaker 1: together this new project. You guys just dropped the video yesterday.
- 25:27Speaker 1: We did day before yesterday. Yeah, don't worry. Has it
- 25:30Speaker 1: been hard like pushing like obviously putting a new album out,
- 25:33Speaker 1: not being able to do the normal shit you would do, Like,
- 25:36Speaker 1: has it been hard to like push this project the
- 25:39Speaker 1: way you want to? Obviously? You guys fuck with us.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Look at me fucking with your mike man, we're in
- 25:44Speaker 1: close proximity. This is a first interview with multiple three people,
- 25:47Speaker 1: so excuse us, but I mean even like shooting videos
- 25:51Speaker 1: and shit, like I remember like March April, like motherfuckers
- 25:53Speaker 1: would get frowned upart if they're doing a video shoot,
- 25:56Speaker 1: like you're a selfish motherfucker. Tell this, just thinking, Deren,
- 26:01Speaker 1: we was looking at the situation, you know, I'm in
- 26:05Speaker 1: Vegas and like, we got this project and we had
- 26:08Speaker 1: this whole plan put in place. You know, we were
- 26:10Speaker 1: gonna start shooting videos and how we were gonna roll
- 26:13Speaker 1: it out, and what we were gonna do, how we
- 26:16Speaker 1: were gonna get the fans involved, all the shit, you know,
- 26:19Speaker 1: and then the pandemic happened, and I was kind of like,
- 26:22Speaker 1: I don't know if it's the right thing to do
- 26:26Speaker 1: to come and shoot a video, and then you know,
- 26:29Speaker 1: we had to kind of figure out like do we
- 26:32Speaker 1: let this time consume us? And then we like, you know,
- 26:36Speaker 1: then sitting in a couple of weeks kind of looking
- 26:39Speaker 1: like damn, I wish we would have shot that video
- 26:41Speaker 1: at least so we could have something to promote, you know,
- 26:44Speaker 1: instead of like not having anything. So we end up
- 26:48Speaker 1: pushing through it. But it was weird. It was definitely weird,
- 26:51Speaker 1: fucking weird. And if you if you even see the
- 26:54Speaker 1: All Night video or the the we ain't the same.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Like there's not a lot of people. There's no extra
- 27:00Speaker 1: people in the video. You know, it was very small set.
- 27:04Speaker 1: We shot with one director, mad Alonzo, and uh, you know,
- 27:08Speaker 1: we first one we rely heavily on the concept of
- 27:13Speaker 1: like playing these characters and kind of having fun with it.
- 27:15Speaker 1: And then the second one was a lot of graphics.
- 27:18Speaker 1: So we made sure that, you know, because at that time,
- 27:21Speaker 1: nobody was even trying to book out a spot or
- 27:24Speaker 1: that's this thing, so it was like, you know, we
- 27:26Speaker 1: had to maneuver to try to make it happen. It's
- 27:28Speaker 1: it's being more relaxed lately, I feel, yeah, it's kind
- 27:31Speaker 1: of getting into I see people kind of maneuvering a
- 27:35Speaker 1: little more. But yeah, a couple of months ago, you
- 27:37Speaker 1: ain't know, how was it you just did a show
- 27:39Speaker 1: in Oklahoma? Right, Yeah, I don't know what the by
- 27:43Speaker 1: the way shot Oklahoma a great weed state now, a
- 27:46Speaker 1: lot of dispensaries there. I went there to do a
- 27:48Speaker 1: weed show. I was gonna ask you, like, what was
- 27:50Speaker 1: that like doing the show during these times. Was it
- 27:53Speaker 1: like social distancing? Like, yeah, it was, And I was
- 27:56Speaker 1: a little nervous at first, but you know, they made
- 27:59Speaker 1: it very clear. You know, I could they had a
- 28:01Speaker 1: spot for me that was kind of away from everybody,
- 28:03Speaker 1: and I didn't have to do some of the obligations
- 28:07Speaker 1: that I had agreed to originally before the like the
- 28:11Speaker 1: meet and greed and kind of like sitting down and
- 28:13Speaker 1: judging some of the shit, you know, some of the
- 28:15Speaker 1: things that I just naturally would go do at the
- 28:17Speaker 1: weak events. It ended up just be it just ended
- 28:21Speaker 1: up being me and Hapa and my boy Peanut popping
- 28:25Speaker 1: up and you know, kind of just staying ducked off
- 28:28Speaker 1: in the room, jumping on stage and doing the show.
- 28:30Speaker 1: But I will say this, like the show for me
- 28:35Speaker 1: personally felt really good because I'm like I hadn't been
- 28:39Speaker 1: on stage. Yeah, it was super therapeutic. Bro, I damned there.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Didn't Like I like I was supposed to do a
- 28:47Speaker 1: thirty minute said, I think I did forty five just
- 28:49Speaker 1: off the shrink because I was just like having a
- 28:52Speaker 1: great time on stage and I just realized how much
- 28:54Speaker 1: I really like being on stage. So, you know, they
- 28:57Speaker 1: were kind of far back and like they had them
- 28:59Speaker 1: all social distance and like, you know, people it's a
- 29:02Speaker 1: weed event, so you know, people were stone and kind
- 29:04Speaker 1: of just staring. But I was on stage, like you know,
- 29:07Speaker 1: like I was at a festival because it's right, it
- 29:08Speaker 1: had just been so long and when this when this
- 29:12Speaker 1: concert ship come back around and we could tour again. Man, shit, whoever,
- 29:15Speaker 1: at the first couple of shows, they're gonna be in
- 29:17Speaker 1: for a treat, because people gonna be going crazy, gonna
- 29:19Speaker 1: be going for Are you guys worried about like because
- 29:22Speaker 1: you know, Live Nation announced that they're gonna cut artists
- 29:25Speaker 1: pay next year, are you guys like prepared to like
- 29:29Speaker 1: make less money from promoters or maybe because I feel
- 29:32Speaker 1: like at the very least, a lot of venues are
- 29:36Speaker 1: gonna close, right, and a lot of promoters are gonna,
- 29:39Speaker 1: like I don't know how many are gonna survive, especially
- 29:43Speaker 1: like the smaller promoters. And then I don't know how
- 29:46Speaker 1: long it's gonna take for people to be super comfortable,
- 29:48Speaker 1: like fuck it, I'm gonna pull up to a show,
- 29:50Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, even when shit is quote
- 29:52Speaker 1: unquote back, Do you guys think like that might affect
- 29:55Speaker 1: like either a like the bag that you guys are
- 29:58Speaker 1: gonna get, or just the structure of the bag, like, hey,
- 30:02Speaker 1: if it sells out, you guys get a botus. I
- 30:03Speaker 1: know that those already exist, but like, yeah, even more
- 30:06Speaker 1: so that than like usual. That's why. That's why it's
- 30:09Speaker 1: kind of like that balancing. You know, the shit is
- 30:11Speaker 1: good for your soul exactly, and the ship that's like
- 30:14Speaker 1: for the bag. You know, like if you a nigga
- 30:17Speaker 1: like me that like thrives off of the fans' energy,
- 30:24Speaker 1: you know, being able to get on stage and get
- 30:25Speaker 1: off stage and fuck with the fans is everything for me.
- 30:28Speaker 1: You know. That's how I keep going. That's how I
- 30:29Speaker 1: keep pumping out the music. Put because I'm inspired by
- 30:33Speaker 1: just the every day struggle to everyday life people that's
- 30:37Speaker 1: just inspired that's coming out to just all come to
- 30:40Speaker 1: one place for the same thing. So I feed it.
- 30:43Speaker 1: I kind of need that for my spirit. I found
- 30:45Speaker 1: myself kind of like feeling a little lost at the
- 30:48Speaker 1: beginning of this because I was just like, damn, I'm
- 30:50Speaker 1: not used to dropping the project and just being behind
- 30:54Speaker 1: the keyboard the whole time. Yeah, exactly, It's extremely difficult
- 30:57Speaker 1: for me, and like my store was shut down, you know,
- 31:00Speaker 1: and I'm just like, this is just didn't feel right,
- 31:04Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So it's really I think
- 31:07Speaker 1: once the shows come back, you know, if long as
- 31:10Speaker 1: you can make some money where you can walk away
- 31:12Speaker 1: with some money and you're not losing money, it's a
- 31:15Speaker 1: dub to me. Yeah, fans again, sell some merch. That's it.
- 31:19Speaker 1: That's it. And I look at it like even with
- 31:21Speaker 1: dropping Blaze with us too, it's like we see the
- 31:24Speaker 1: numbers and we're like, okay, and you see the comments
- 31:27Speaker 1: of people saying that they fucking with the music, but
- 31:29Speaker 1: nothing's like going to that concert or going to that show,
- 31:32Speaker 1: or really meeting those people and seeing how much the
- 31:35Speaker 1: music is inspiring them, or seeing them singing the lyrics
- 31:38Speaker 1: like like oh this ship, this ship hit in Tulsa,
- 31:42Speaker 1: those of every word off a project. I just drive
- 31:44Speaker 1: that part. I'm doing this for a reason. Yeah, that
- 31:48Speaker 1: ship will keep you going. And then like getting fan
- 31:50Speaker 1: paintings and ship yeah oh yeah, and I take them
- 31:53Speaker 1: all home and hang them up. I cave them all
- 31:56Speaker 1: this shit. I mean I cherished that ship. What was
- 31:58Speaker 1: the Disney you Tourtech nine a couple of years ago
- 32:02Speaker 1: I did. I did, and uh that's its own kind
- 32:05Speaker 1: of world, right street music thing. And then also just
- 32:10Speaker 1: touring there like with them, like the rules are crazy,
- 32:13Speaker 1: like the bus rules and they'd be fineing motherfucker like
- 32:17Speaker 1: Travis don't play. Oh yeah, Like I know a lot
- 32:21Speaker 1: of people who have either just quit those tours or
- 32:24Speaker 1: gotten kicked off the tours. And how how was that
- 32:28Speaker 1: experience touring Retecht nine and just getting getting into that
- 32:32Speaker 1: world and then also kind of just dealing with all
- 32:35Speaker 1: the strange music shit. Man, It's like inspiring, but it
- 32:39Speaker 1: was also extremely tough. You know, you can't smoke on
- 32:42Speaker 1: the bus, right, yeah, you can't smoke smoking on the buses.
- 32:45Speaker 1: And what bothered me, I think it's the going to
- 32:50Speaker 1: venues that I went to by myself that you know
- 32:55Speaker 1: they have they have rooms for me to smoke in.
- 32:59Speaker 1: You know, they got ducked off areas for me to be.
- 33:02Speaker 1: You know, they know they like dizzy coming. We got
- 33:04Speaker 1: to make sure that we got a fan upstairs and
- 33:06Speaker 1: we open the windows and let them be you know,
- 33:10Speaker 1: upstairs and away from everybody. And like, you know, some
- 33:13Speaker 1: of those places we were coming to that had like
- 33:15Speaker 1: those setups for me Strange Music was shutting it down,
- 33:20Speaker 1: and that shit was eating at my spirit a little bit,
- 33:23Speaker 1: because you know, I I thrive off not having no
- 33:26Speaker 1: weed problems. I know I talk a lot about weed
- 33:28Speaker 1: and shit, but it's not cool to get in trouble
- 33:30Speaker 1: for this shit. You know. You gotta be smart, you
- 33:32Speaker 1: gotta move smart. And I you know, I dropped the album,
- 33:36Speaker 1: my first album on four twenty in twenty twelve, and
- 33:39Speaker 1: I ain't never had a problem, never had a run
- 33:42Speaker 1: in with the police about weed, not once. You know,
- 33:46Speaker 1: in my whole career. You're not gonna I'm not bragging
- 33:53Speaker 1: or like showing off. I'm just just trying to make
- 33:55Speaker 1: it apparent like on how serious it is, you know,
- 33:58Speaker 1: and especially in some of those ran the market you
- 34:00Speaker 1: be in and what I install on my team, you know,
- 34:02Speaker 1: because it's not just me, like I ain't never had
- 34:05Speaker 1: nobody on the road with me getting too no weed trouble,
- 34:08Speaker 1: you know, like personally somebody that I brought nah a nigga.
- 34:12Speaker 1: We all on the same page, you know what I'm saying.
- 34:14Speaker 1: For years, so being on the road with Strange Music
- 34:16Speaker 1: and having doing this for so long and always finding
- 34:22Speaker 1: a way to stay out of the way. I felt
- 34:24Speaker 1: like they kind of you know, they don't want you
- 34:26Speaker 1: smoking in the venue. They don't want you smoking backstage,
- 34:28Speaker 1: they don't want you smoking on the bus, they don't
- 34:30Speaker 1: want you smoking in the hotel. So it's like, where
- 34:33Speaker 1: do you want me to smoke? You want me to
- 34:34Speaker 1: go outside in front of and you might get the fans,
- 34:37Speaker 1: in front of the people, in front of businesses. It
- 34:40Speaker 1: felt more like I was being put in danger kind
- 34:45Speaker 1: of like instead of being ducked off normally, you know,
- 34:48Speaker 1: and I had I would call Travis a trip with
- 34:50Speaker 1: him about this shit because I'm like, man, Travis, I
- 34:52Speaker 1: feeling like, you know, you you Nigga's putting us in
- 34:55Speaker 1: like dangerous situations. He just like, you know, the room.
- 35:00Speaker 1: It's just like, yo, is that the toughest story to beyondest? Oh?
- 35:03Speaker 1: Very very much, so very much. So. I was inspired
- 35:10Speaker 1: by Tech, you know, and just what he was able
- 35:15Speaker 1: to build. You know, I'm just so inspired by you know,
- 35:18Speaker 1: him and what he was able to do and how
- 35:20Speaker 1: he's able to get up there and the show he's
- 35:22Speaker 1: able to put on and every single city. Yeah, it's
- 35:27Speaker 1: really inspiring. And he don't complain. He loves what he do.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Like it's it's not like, you know, he's not pressed,
- 35:37Speaker 1: he's not you know, complaining, he's not drunk, wilding out.
- 35:43Speaker 1: He's just tech. You know, he's working out, he's fucking
- 35:48Speaker 1: but you know, shit, I feel the same way. I
- 35:50Speaker 1: feel like I'm an easy person to work with. You know,
- 35:53Speaker 1: I just need to be able to, you know, do
- 35:55Speaker 1: my little smoke dang when I need to do my
- 35:57Speaker 1: little smoke dang, and you know, maybe not blow it
- 36:00Speaker 1: down on the bus where it might bring some extra
- 36:03Speaker 1: attention to other people. But you know, when you at
- 36:05Speaker 1: these shows, you definitely want to be comfortable, especially before
- 36:08Speaker 1: you get on stage. So it was inspiring, but it
- 36:11Speaker 1: was also extremely tough for me. I can imagine, hey, bro,
- 36:16Speaker 1: that honestly, that's the thing that's like, we live in
- 36:19Speaker 1: we live in LA and Vegas. People legal and you
- 36:23Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, And like when we traveling and
- 36:26Speaker 1: shit like that, you get some places and you see
- 36:29Speaker 1: how that actual state really frowns on this shit. And
- 36:32Speaker 1: then imagine not being able to smoke in the venue
- 36:33Speaker 1: where you tucked away, like anything could happen to you
- 36:37Speaker 1: out there on the streets if you're in one of
- 36:39Speaker 1: those states, and it's a shame because six hours away
- 36:42Speaker 1: you're good. Six hours away you good, and then six
- 36:45Speaker 1: hours here you like, oh, you know, so much is
- 36:48Speaker 1: on the line and something like they don't even allow
- 36:50Speaker 1: smoking outside in some of the places where they kind
- 36:53Speaker 1: of wanted us to just kind of smoke outside. Yeah,
- 36:55Speaker 1: you know, it's not my thing. You know, I try
- 36:58Speaker 1: to do well with kind of stand duck off and
- 37:00Speaker 1: out the way. You know what I'm saying. I don't
- 37:02Speaker 1: need to be blowing it down all in everybody face
- 37:05Speaker 1: and things like that. You know. So, but you know,
- 37:07Speaker 1: at the end of the day, Strange Music runs they
- 37:10Speaker 1: ship the way they want to run they ship, and
- 37:13Speaker 1: it works and they've been successful, and they run it
- 37:17Speaker 1: that way so they can keep law and ordering what
- 37:19Speaker 1: they got going. And you gotta respect that if you
- 37:22Speaker 1: want to be a part of that. I went to
- 37:23Speaker 1: be a part of they ship. It was you I
- 37:26Speaker 1: signed up for. Now. Don't get me wrong. I was
- 37:29Speaker 1: told that I could do my smoke thing. Now now
- 37:32Speaker 1: I agreed to not smoke on the bus. You know,
- 37:35Speaker 1: I don't know if I would have I don't know
- 37:37Speaker 1: if I would have signed up to not for it
- 37:39Speaker 1: to be for me to be me and my team
- 37:42Speaker 1: to be put in those kind of situations because you know,
- 37:45Speaker 1: Nigga was raining and snowing and the type of ship
- 37:49Speaker 1: and they're like, Yo, I'm gonna get fined if I
- 37:51Speaker 1: smoke in the spot that they that the venue says
- 37:55Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't because on you to perform right right,
- 37:59Speaker 1: So Edibles, this is like a sangerous I like Edibles
- 38:03Speaker 1: when I'm getting ready to go to sleep, you know,
- 38:05Speaker 1: so when I'm operating during the day, you know, I
- 38:07Speaker 1: just need to puff it down a little bit. I
- 38:09Speaker 1: was just kind of like shressed out more than I'm
- 38:12Speaker 1: normally shressed out on the road, you know what I'm saying.
- 38:14Speaker 1: So other than that, it was all love. I feel
- 38:18Speaker 1: like a natural thing that you and Berner have a
- 38:21Speaker 1: great chemistry on records, both of you guys. Actually, I'm curious,
- 38:27Speaker 1: like Burn's knowing to drop just hell with collab projects.
- 38:30Speaker 1: I mean, he just put out shit with Currency this
- 38:32Speaker 1: year and another beat real project, like he's with either
- 38:37Speaker 1: of you guys. Has there ever been a discussion of
- 38:39Speaker 1: doing like a Fool release with Berner. I haven't personally
- 38:44Speaker 1: talked to Burner about doing the full release. I talked
- 38:47Speaker 1: to him about maybe like executive producing because his beat
- 38:52Speaker 1: selection is solid. Shout out to Cosmo. Yeah, Cosmo yeah,
- 38:56Speaker 1: eat selection as wow. So I'm like Burn just picked
- 38:59Speaker 1: the beast for me. Yeah, I mean, I'll go in
- 39:01Speaker 1: on some of these because he always he always says
- 39:04Speaker 1: the vibe on on his on his records, the music,
- 39:08Speaker 1: the music is, songs are double full in it in
- 39:12Speaker 1: its entirety, but his bat selection is, like, I feel
- 39:15Speaker 1: like it's top level. Do you guys like Dizzy Obviously,
- 39:19Speaker 1: Burn is somebody who's kind of another independent juggernaut, right,
- 39:23Speaker 1: another weed juggernaut. You know what I'm saying. Do you
- 39:27Speaker 1: do you kind of get inspired seeing like some of
- 39:28Speaker 1: the moose Berner does. Oh like a motherfucker. Man, that
- 39:32Speaker 1: guy's killing it. I love it man for a long
- 39:37Speaker 1: time though, you know, no, you guys, I mean he
- 39:39Speaker 1: was on the Warner album. Like you guys have worked
- 39:41Speaker 1: together for a while. It wasn't like recently, you know
- 39:44Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And I've been inspired by Berner for
- 39:47Speaker 1: for a long time. But just some of the boss
- 39:50Speaker 1: moves that he making right now, it's just like, you know,
- 39:54Speaker 1: I'm just waiting for him to write the book. Yeah,
- 39:56Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So I got the complete
- 39:59Speaker 1: pieces that I because I just you know, when you
- 40:02Speaker 1: got that much game, you know. Hopefully he feels generous
- 40:06Speaker 1: enough to just dish it out so we could all
- 40:09Speaker 1: get that kind of money. But I'm very inspired by him,
- 40:13Speaker 1: and I just hope he keeps continues to keep the
- 40:16Speaker 1: right people around him so he can stay he will. Yeah,
- 40:19Speaker 1: he's got a very short small circle. Would you ever
- 40:21Speaker 1: do a I think it's it'd be natural for you
- 40:24Speaker 1: to do a dizzy right or it's still moving dispensary
- 40:27Speaker 1: in Vegas? Oh yeah, absolutely. I would love to grow
- 40:31Speaker 1: into that man. That's uh you know me, I'm thinking
- 40:35Speaker 1: that big for Shure, I just gotta just find one
- 40:37Speaker 1: of the ones that's out there struggling and be like, yo, look,
- 40:39Speaker 1: I'll just license the name. I'll show up, cut the ribbon.
- 40:43Speaker 1: That's it. Yeah, Because I feel like, man, that shit
- 40:46Speaker 1: would be if you have a fucking dizzey right, dispensary
- 40:50Speaker 1: that's a destination in Vegas, put it in there. That's
- 40:55Speaker 1: it idea out there? Now? Yeah? For show? Is it
- 40:59Speaker 1: how much you guys pay for wheat anymore? Either? Yeah,
- 41:03Speaker 1: sometimes you still gotta you know, you gotta switching flavors up.
- 41:07Speaker 1: You know, we get the pack, you know, but if
- 41:09Speaker 1: you just want to smoke on the packs that you
- 41:10Speaker 1: get all the time, that's cool. But sometimes you know,
- 41:14Speaker 1: you want to switch them flavors up a little bit.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Be able to do that, you might have to you know,
- 41:19Speaker 1: dish a little while, especially right now because there's so
- 41:22Speaker 1: many different strains and dropping all the time. There's always
- 41:25Speaker 1: something that new cross or something new on the on
- 41:27Speaker 1: the cookie menu or doctor. Yeah. I don't like not
- 41:31Speaker 1: knowing the fire that's out, Yeah, exactly. I like being
- 41:34Speaker 1: a part of all. Do you guys, So the next
- 41:37Speaker 1: thing I know that's supposed to get legalized? I know
- 41:39Speaker 1: in San Francisco mushrooms are legalized, and I know that
- 41:42Speaker 1: like the idea of microdosing mushrooms has become more of
- 41:46Speaker 1: like a an accepted thing amongst like telemercials like It'll
- 41:53Speaker 1: make you know, the guy that Shark Tank like invested
- 41:57Speaker 1: in a big mushroom company. Uh, do you guys dabbling
- 42:00Speaker 1: the mushroom game at all? The psychedelics? I don't, personally,
- 42:05Speaker 1: I actually ain't never dabbled into nothing but weed weed.
- 42:09Speaker 1: You know, I'm I'm a scary ass snigger when it
- 42:12Speaker 1: comes to that ship. You wouldn't do mushrooms. It's from
- 42:15Speaker 1: the earth. I know. I know people always tell me
- 42:19Speaker 1: that maybe, but shit, I don't have no desire to
- 42:24Speaker 1: or anything like that. Some people just like, oh, it'll
- 42:27Speaker 1: make you get through your day better, or maybe it'll
- 42:29Speaker 1: make you look at things a little differently. And I'm like, shit,
- 42:32Speaker 1: right now, I like, yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 42:36Speaker 1: What about I've done I've done shrooms twice and I
- 42:39Speaker 1: had one great experience and I've had one not so
- 42:43Speaker 1: good experience. So I'm all I'm like, was what happened
- 42:46Speaker 1: with the not so good I just had? I had
- 42:49Speaker 1: it just a piece of chocolate. I didn't know how
- 42:51Speaker 1: much it was. And then, uh, I just was watching
- 42:55Speaker 1: a movie and it felt like the person in the
- 42:57Speaker 1: movie tell the person though. Samuel L. Jackson was yelling
- 43:01Speaker 1: at me, and it tripped me out man big time.
- 43:04Speaker 1: And I was I was in Philadelphia and it was
- 43:07Speaker 1: winter and you're in a row You're in a row
- 43:09Speaker 1: home in there, so you can't really get out nowhere.
- 43:11Speaker 1: And that's the first time and uh, yeah, you know,
- 43:14Speaker 1: homies had to sit me down, you have relaxed, give
- 43:17Speaker 1: me some water, tell me it's all in my head
- 43:19Speaker 1: type ship. And then I was like, I'm not going
- 43:22Speaker 1: to judge it off of that experience, because uh so,
- 43:25Speaker 1: Samuel Jackson was like, coming out the TV on you
- 43:27Speaker 1: ain't motherfucker with something. I'm like, damn movie where you're
- 43:35Speaker 1: watching it, because that also might be like I forget that, Yeah,
- 43:38Speaker 1: one of them ones. And right anyway, he felt like
- 43:40Speaker 1: he was talking to him. Yeah, black snake moan. I
- 43:44Speaker 1: don't know, man, he's got something that I can imagine.
- 43:46Speaker 1: We're way more intense if you're on truth. But I
- 43:48Speaker 1: realized though that you got to be able to be
- 43:52Speaker 1: around the situation where you can move freely and it's
- 43:55Speaker 1: good to you know, do it in like outside and
- 43:58Speaker 1: nature and ship like that, and really enjoyed full spectrum
- 44:01Speaker 1: of the situation. So I went back and redid the experiences.
- 44:05Speaker 1: It was better. Yeah, it was way better, man, I'm like,
- 44:07Speaker 1: but it's still I realized you gotta be able to, like,
- 44:12Speaker 1: you know, people who like could have control over a
- 44:14Speaker 1: lot of shit. Probably not gonna like psychedelics in my opinion,
- 44:18Speaker 1: because you don't got no fucking control over that. You know,
- 44:21Speaker 1: your mind start going where it's going and you just
- 44:23Speaker 1: gotta go with it, hit the button and just go.
- 44:26Speaker 1: You'll get a bad trip or some shit like that.
- 44:28Speaker 1: And that's what That's what always made me like I
- 44:31Speaker 1: feel like I'd be one of them niggas that have
- 44:33Speaker 1: start panicking, like and I don't want to take no
- 44:36Speaker 1: motherfucking chances, so I don't do shit. Have you ever
- 44:39Speaker 1: had a bad like edible experience? I had actually had
- 44:43Speaker 1: like a bad like Bung rip experience, Like wow, yeah,
- 44:48Speaker 1: like I had too much just trying to hit one
- 44:53Speaker 1: of them big ass bungs, trying to just be the
- 44:57Speaker 1: biggest stoner I can be at the time, and I'm
- 44:59Speaker 1: a clear right, yeah, I must have cleared that bitch,
- 45:03Speaker 1: and you know, I just you know, this was back
- 45:07Speaker 1: in the front volume days like hops In and Swizz
- 45:11Speaker 1: was wearing those contacts and that ship was just too
- 45:16Speaker 1: much for me. And then I remember hops It took
- 45:20Speaker 1: one of the contacts out and was like I looked
- 45:23Speaker 1: like a devil and ship and I was like, oh,
- 45:25Speaker 1: I think the hell No, I need to go to
- 45:28Speaker 1: sleep and wake up and start over again. Like I
- 45:31Speaker 1: tried it was the highest that I ever been. What about?
- 45:34Speaker 1: What about? What's the highest I ever been? Was was
- 45:38Speaker 1: last November in Europe. Uh. Exhibit always like he likes
- 45:44Speaker 1: to put a block of hash and cut a Snickers
- 45:48Speaker 1: bar open and put the block of hash in there
- 45:50Speaker 1: and then close it up and eat it, eat it,
- 45:52Speaker 1: oh ship. And so for all these years of traveling
- 45:55Speaker 1: with him, I never I never, I never tried it.
- 46:00Speaker 1: And so we were all a shot out problem. He
- 46:02Speaker 1: was out there, we was all out there, and I said,
- 46:04Speaker 1: I said, fuck it, you know this this time, I'm
- 46:06Speaker 1: about to do it. And so I took a piece
- 46:09Speaker 1: to the Snickers and I ate it, and uh, I
- 46:12Speaker 1: got back to my hotel room and I started to
- 46:14Speaker 1: feel my body. I started to feel myself like lift
- 46:17Speaker 1: above my body and uh you know, and then I
- 46:21Speaker 1: just I just laid there and just let it, let
- 46:23Speaker 1: it happen. Eventually fall asleep, but I was on some
- 46:25Speaker 1: next level. H yeah, man, put that put that hash.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Exhibit eats that normally. Well, I'm saying like on a
- 46:32Speaker 1: day off, like let's say we do six seven years
- 46:35Speaker 1: and they stay off, and he's like, he's like, fuck it,
- 46:37Speaker 1: you know, I'm about to make the snickers with the
- 46:39Speaker 1: hash and it who wants a piece? Typically, I would
- 46:43Speaker 1: always be like, nah, I'm cool. You know you feel
- 46:46Speaker 1: like you had superpowers at all when you had the
- 46:47Speaker 1: edible like that, because like I had an edible ones
- 46:51Speaker 1: and uh, it was a really rough night for me.
- 46:54Speaker 1: It was a Ritz and Yellowolf concert, and I felt
- 46:58Speaker 1: like I could hear everybody talking in the concert. I
- 47:00Speaker 1: could like hone in like there was like two thousand
- 47:04Speaker 1: people in this ventu. You know, maybe maybe like one conversation.
- 47:08Speaker 1: I'd be on the other side of the venue and
- 47:09Speaker 1: I like look in the middle of a concert, just
- 47:11Speaker 1: look at somebody on the other side of the building
- 47:13Speaker 1: and hear exactly what they're saying. Yeah, you was tripping.
- 47:17Speaker 1: I don't know if I was tripping, though I felt
- 47:22Speaker 1: like I was like yo, I couldn't move my legs. Though.
- 47:25Speaker 1: I remember when I had the hash niggers, like, I
- 47:27Speaker 1: was like, fuck it, I feel weird. I'm not to
- 47:29Speaker 1: throw on like some YouTube and watch like a little
- 47:31Speaker 1: movie or whatever. And slowly but surely the words stopped.
- 47:35Speaker 1: I stopped being able to understand what was being said
- 47:39Speaker 1: in the movie. Right, just sounded like shit just started
- 47:44Speaker 1: off like what am I even watching? Just cut it
- 47:46Speaker 1: off and it was a dangerous because you can't like
- 47:49Speaker 1: eat to get it to go away. You know, got
- 47:51Speaker 1: to like just let the high pass. There's no other choice, bug,
- 47:55Speaker 1: you can't. I tried to get in a shower and
- 47:57Speaker 1: watch that ship. I had to look at myself in
- 47:59Speaker 1: the middle and everything. I was just like off of Bonghad.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Though off of Bonghad, Bro, are you not a big dabber?
- 48:07Speaker 1: I imagine now I became a big dabber. This was
- 48:09Speaker 1: before dabs was dabs, you know, it wasn't dabbing yet
- 48:12Speaker 1: when I did this. Uh, And this was actually in Minnieanapolis.
- 48:15Speaker 1: I had first got with shout out to Prince with
- 48:18Speaker 1: the funk volume Niggas, and it was like my first
- 48:20Speaker 1: time going out there, and like Dame kind of had
- 48:24Speaker 1: me running around watching what Hopson was doing. You know,
- 48:27Speaker 1: as far as Meet and Greens skating, right, listen, you're
- 48:31Speaker 1: gonna play skate with fans, Disney. You don't know how
- 48:32Speaker 1: to skate, figure out how to skate. You're just gonna
- 48:36Speaker 1: go show up at the fans house and play them
- 48:37Speaker 1: and skate fags fags, bro. But I remember I just
- 48:42Speaker 1: started making my little fans, you know what I'm saying.
- 48:44Speaker 1: And I went to go smoke with one of my
- 48:46Speaker 1: fans and filled the bong up and tried to hit
- 48:49Speaker 1: that big ass bong and was fucked up. Whole world
- 48:52Speaker 1: tilt the sideway. Jesus, I don't like being that high.
- 48:56Speaker 1: How was the experience of you guys doing the the
- 48:59Speaker 1: album a couple of years ago with Audio Push and Jaring.
- 49:04Speaker 1: Everybody was in the house together. You're the only one
- 49:06Speaker 1: who didn't show up to freestyle, by the way, everyone
- 49:10Speaker 1: came into the radio station. But you blame blame Dame,
- 49:13Speaker 1: blame Hey, I'm telling you, if Dame doesn't make some
- 49:18Speaker 1: merg that just us blame day. He's cripping. But but
- 49:22Speaker 1: how was that experience because that obviously I can imagine.
- 49:26Speaker 1: I mean, I feel like staying in Austin and the
- 49:29Speaker 1: recording process. I mean, all you guys are boys. Audio
- 49:33Speaker 1: pushed the great guy shout out to Price at octane
- 49:35Speaker 1: and was great when we all went out there. We
- 49:37Speaker 1: originally milia Rohaus was there too. Yeah, we was originally
- 49:41Speaker 1: gonna get in the studio and then the studio didn't
- 49:44Speaker 1: allow smoking, so we all brought studios. So we just
- 49:47Speaker 1: set our studios up at the crib and just kind
- 49:50Speaker 1: of turned it into like a little musical trap house,
- 49:52Speaker 1: you know. And we we were there for the whole
- 49:55Speaker 1: week and just feeding off each other energy from sun
- 49:57Speaker 1: up the sundown, you know what I'm saying. And it
- 50:00Speaker 1: was dope. Then we like we were loving the record
- 50:03Speaker 1: so much that we started going out and shooting videos
- 50:05Speaker 1: and stuff like that and like really adding to it.
- 50:07Speaker 1: It's very similar to what j Co did some years
- 50:10Speaker 1: later with the Dreamville project. Yeah, it just invited a
- 50:13Speaker 1: bunch of people. Yeah, when I seen that, I was like, damn,
- 50:16Speaker 1: we essentially did something like that, you know what I'm saying.
- 50:21Speaker 1: But the rollout and when it came time, just things
- 50:26Speaker 1: kind of went left field. Like me and Dame had
- 50:28Speaker 1: a falling out, and then I wasn't a part of
- 50:31Speaker 1: the Free Styles and I wasn't a part of a
- 50:33Speaker 1: bunch of different shit, And I think it took a
- 50:35Speaker 1: lot of momentum away from what we were doing. But
- 50:39Speaker 1: as far as building it up to get it where
- 50:41Speaker 1: it was, we had a lot of fun. We had
- 50:43Speaker 1: the creation part of it, just even tapping in with people,
- 50:47Speaker 1: you know, somebody producing right there, another person coming up
- 50:50Speaker 1: with a chorus, and then other room people working on
- 50:52Speaker 1: the song, and yeah, people did still go two on
- 50:55Speaker 1: the mic. Man, So I can only imagine like the
- 50:57Speaker 1: like the friendly competition, Oh yeah, had the level of
- 50:59Speaker 1: every times it's gonna be like what you got. Oh yeah,
- 51:03Speaker 1: oh you had. You had the hardest verse yesterday, so
- 51:05Speaker 1: that means today I gotta had the hardest. Nigga was
- 51:09Speaker 1: in there, he was doing it. It was a lot
- 51:11Speaker 1: of fun. You had mentioned earlier that you were attempted
- 51:16Speaker 1: to meet up with Dame a couple of weeks ago.
- 51:17Speaker 1: What was the because obviously you had stuck you kind
- 51:19Speaker 1: of stuck with Dame after the Funk Volume thing. What
- 51:21Speaker 1: was the like, what was y'all's issue that you know
- 51:26Speaker 1: made that kind of split because I remember he stopped
- 51:28Speaker 1: fucking with you and it was with Futuristic for a
- 51:30Speaker 1: little bit, and he's doing his Entreneur music club thing,
- 51:33Speaker 1: But like, what what had happened between you two? Obviously
- 51:36Speaker 1: it's better now, I'm assuming, or at least on the
- 51:38Speaker 1: way to be in bad. Yeah, it's on the way
- 51:39Speaker 1: to being better. It's definitely. I definitely don't got no
- 51:42Speaker 1: hard feelings for Dame or nothing like that. I guess, Bro,
- 51:50Speaker 1: I feel like I was the one to kind of
- 51:51Speaker 1: ride with Dame definitely. And then, you know, finding out
- 51:58Speaker 1: that Hopson wasn't making any money off of Dizzy Right
- 52:03Speaker 1: was kind of like the big bang for me, because
- 52:07Speaker 1: you know, Hopson made it seem like there was money problems,
- 52:10Speaker 1: but he never said that he wasn't making a dollar
- 52:12Speaker 1: from Dizzy Right. You know, I'm on Hopson's label, and
- 52:15Speaker 1: I respected Hobson so much, and I respected him so much,
- 52:19Speaker 1: and I was very appreciative for him allowing me to
- 52:22Speaker 1: come out and do those shows with him and get
- 52:24Speaker 1: my feet wet as an artist. You know, I just
- 52:26Speaker 1: wanted to get out of Vegas, Bro. You know, we
- 52:28Speaker 1: was just out there all kind of doing the same
- 52:30Speaker 1: little bubble. I feel like it's hard to get out.
- 52:33Speaker 1: It's hard to get out of it. And not only that,
- 52:35Speaker 1: it's hard to get with an artist that has like
- 52:37Speaker 1: fans in a platform for you to travel the world
- 52:40Speaker 1: without it being like a major artist or like having
- 52:43Speaker 1: to have like some crazy stipulations to it. So I
- 52:47Speaker 1: felt like he kind of opened up his platform to
- 52:49Speaker 1: me with open arms, you know, and finding out that
- 52:53Speaker 1: he wasn't a part of the come up with me financially,
- 52:57Speaker 1: you know that he was pieced out of that. It
- 53:04Speaker 1: just changed me and Dame's relationship forever because I thought
- 53:07Speaker 1: Dame was the fairest nigg in the world, you know,
- 53:10Speaker 1: But I didn't know the logistics on the problem. And
- 53:13Speaker 1: that's why me and Hopson had to have a conversation
- 53:16Speaker 1: because I had to call him like, Bro, did you
- 53:19Speaker 1: ever make any money? He was like, Noah, and that's
- 53:22Speaker 1: my fault. I should have told you. And I'm like,
- 53:25Speaker 1: you let three years go by a nigga with me
- 53:27Speaker 1: running around with this nigga and you didn't let me
- 53:30Speaker 1: know thinking that this nigga was the fairest nigg in
- 53:32Speaker 1: the world, and it kind of blew my mind when
- 53:35Speaker 1: I you know, I had to just ask dam like
- 53:39Speaker 1: was Hopson cut out? And its just like yeah, you know,
- 53:41Speaker 1: because he pretty much felt responsible for finding me and
- 53:47Speaker 1: giving me the opportunities, even though it was Hopson's platform
- 53:50Speaker 1: we was using. So I just felt some type of
- 53:53Speaker 1: way about that shit and I wanted to like separate
- 53:57Speaker 1: myself from that. What I didn't do is I didn't
- 54:02Speaker 1: say anything to and I didn't like make it a
- 54:05Speaker 1: big thing. I didn't get on my hops and ship
- 54:07Speaker 1: and and like, Yo, fuck this nigga, Dad, I'm not
- 54:11Speaker 1: fucking with him no more. I just stopped fucking with him.
- 54:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna move accordingly now. But a lot of people
- 54:18Speaker 1: felt like Dame was still in my corner kind of
- 54:22Speaker 1: helping me out. And I seen the fans responding to
- 54:25Speaker 1: a lot of things thinking that Dame was the one
- 54:27Speaker 1: moving with me when I was moving by myself for
- 54:29Speaker 1: so long. So I just felt like the best way
- 54:33Speaker 1: to get out of that was to just keep working,
- 54:35Speaker 1: you know, just keep working and keep doing things for myself.
- 54:38Speaker 1: But uh, yeah, it was a tricky little situation. Was
- 54:41Speaker 1: it was that the same I mean, I don't know
- 54:43Speaker 1: if you know this or not, because I'm not trying to,
- 54:45Speaker 1: But was it was that a similar situation with Jaron?
- 54:47Speaker 1: You think, where like, did you know if Hopsin saw
- 54:49Speaker 1: anything off of Jaron? I don't know. I don't know,
- 54:52Speaker 1: to be honest. I always thought we all had similar deals,
- 54:57Speaker 1: and that's why I always thought it was fair, and
- 55:00Speaker 1: I just thought that what was fair. Hopson didn't think
- 55:03Speaker 1: that was fair anymore. So that was alway, Hey, from
- 55:07Speaker 1: his perspective totally right from his perspective, totally because he
- 55:10Speaker 1: deserved to have a team behind him instead of just
- 55:12Speaker 1: one person. So I completely understand paying one person for
- 55:16Speaker 1: what a team could be doing and getting one person's
- 55:19Speaker 1: results instead of a team results could make you feel
- 55:21Speaker 1: like that. So I definitely, I definitely just learned a
- 55:26Speaker 1: lot from that shit, bro and then going into doing
- 55:29Speaker 1: still Moving records, my own label and shit like that.
- 55:33Speaker 1: At first I was going to do it with Dame,
- 55:36Speaker 1: and then I just learned more about the business. And
- 55:40Speaker 1: as I was learning about the business, and I don't
- 55:43Speaker 1: want to make it seem like I'm throwing Dame under
- 55:46Speaker 1: the bus because we're passed this and I feel like
- 55:50Speaker 1: you live and you learn right or like I have
- 55:53Speaker 1: no hard feelings or anything. But at the time, oh yeah,
- 55:56Speaker 1: I was salty than the motherfucker, you know what I'm saying,
- 55:58Speaker 1: because I felt like I have road with somebody and
- 56:02Speaker 1: I didn't know the full truth and I didn't know
- 56:04Speaker 1: how to feel about that. Damn. Yeah, that's crazy shout
- 56:08Speaker 1: out to I mean, I, like I said, I'm just
- 56:09Speaker 1: happy that at the end of the day, like there's
- 56:12Speaker 1: some sort of roadmap to everyone just talking again. I
- 56:17Speaker 1: guess yeah, I think everybody. Everybody could have did better
- 56:20Speaker 1: and everybody still can do better, so you never know
- 56:22Speaker 1: where it could go. All right, So the album is out,
- 56:25Speaker 1: Uh go support it you guys. It was this a
- 56:28Speaker 1: one off with Smokers Club or you guys going to
- 56:31Speaker 1: be doing more stuff with them? Because I know you
- 56:32Speaker 1: guys are obviously you know, I know you got hell
- 56:34Speaker 1: of shit coming out and your album is getting wrapped
- 56:38Speaker 1: up right. Yeah, yeah, I'm about to drop another album.
- 56:40Speaker 1: Uh this I wouldn't say, wouldn't lock it down as
- 56:44Speaker 1: a one off, you know, shout out the Smokers Club.
- 56:46Speaker 1: We feel like they've been extremely tapped in with us
- 56:49Speaker 1: and supportive to what we got going on, so maybe
- 56:51Speaker 1: we can run it back. You know what about Demrick?
- 56:55Speaker 1: I know with the serial killer shit, you have another
- 56:58Speaker 1: shout out to yo. Can we bounce to Tony Chalk,
- 57:01Speaker 1: Demrik EP, Let's go Tony Chalk, bring your Vietnamese ass
- 57:04Speaker 1: on camera real quick. Let's go, man, let's get it
- 57:07Speaker 1: Tony Chalk. I happen to manage Tony Chalk by the
- 57:10Speaker 1: way out to Tony Tap. But uh yeah, so your
- 57:14Speaker 1: album is done or is almost done? Done? Okay, we're
- 57:17Speaker 1: mastering it today. Who can you tell us who's gonna
- 57:20Speaker 1: be on the album? Chevy Woods would be on there.
- 57:26Speaker 1: Shout to Chevy, Shout out to my boy, Chevy Woods.
- 57:28Speaker 1: I love a cook, Chevy Woods. He's a chef. Oh
- 57:32Speaker 1: my god. Yeah, they have it cooking with Chevy. Yeah. Yeah,
- 57:36Speaker 1: he's like kind of he really be feeling himself. It's
- 57:39Speaker 1: telefoot pull up man. Your next time you come to
- 57:41Speaker 1: the studio, brings some of them homemade dishes. You feel
- 57:43Speaker 1: me right that part? Uh? So that album's coming out,
- 57:47Speaker 1: anything like, do you have like any sort of idea
- 57:49Speaker 1: next month? I'm gonna drop it next to month. I
- 57:52Speaker 1: also got beans on their beans Aces girl beans, Yes,
- 57:57Speaker 1: from the Netflix show from the netflixire. Yeah, we just
- 58:01Speaker 1: did a video too. So we got a video coming
- 58:04Speaker 1: called Sick of Complaining. I'm excited about that. Let's say,
- 58:07Speaker 1: just working with different artists, saying creative, you know, and
- 58:10Speaker 1: staying inspired by people's hunger. Demrick when it's Serial Killers
- 58:15Speaker 1: for coming out, it'll come. It's called a Summer sam
- 58:18Speaker 1: so it'll be out sometime next month. So we were
- 58:21Speaker 1: we're still locking in the exact day, but it's for
- 58:24Speaker 1: sure coming out in September. What is I know, Demrik
- 58:28Speaker 1: could be doing a lot of writing for a lot
- 58:29Speaker 1: of artists. Like when you do that, like is it,
- 58:31Speaker 1: uh do you ever like like how how do you
- 58:34Speaker 1: approach that creatively compared to when you work on your
- 58:37Speaker 1: own shit, It's really the same process. But I just
- 58:40Speaker 1: think kind of like tapping into the energy that, you know,
- 58:44Speaker 1: the goal that that artist is trying to get accomplished,
- 58:46Speaker 1: and just trying to more essentially write, get creative with
- 58:51Speaker 1: that person, you know, and kind of just keep that
- 58:53Speaker 1: in mind of the direction that they're going to go with.
- 58:56Speaker 1: I'm one of those people that I like to make music.
- 58:59Speaker 1: I can make a lot of music, hit the studio,
- 59:01Speaker 1: and just get creative. So if one day it's going
- 59:04Speaker 1: down this lane, next day we're doing some stuff for
- 59:06Speaker 1: some television and film, or if I'm plotting on something
- 59:09Speaker 1: that I want to do, then I'm just always putting
- 59:12Speaker 1: a plan together. Really, is it still like extremely uh
- 59:16Speaker 1: taboo to like ghostwrit or like if you're like a
- 59:20Speaker 1: rapper and you have a ghostwriter. I just I don't know.
- 59:23Speaker 1: I don't think so, just because I just feel like
- 59:25Speaker 1: songwriting is songwriting. You know, people get it. Feel like
- 59:27Speaker 1: the Drake thing kind of made it like a little
- 59:29Speaker 1: bit more okay, even though he got shipped for it
- 59:30Speaker 1: at first. But now it's like, yo, fam, Drake's still
- 59:32Speaker 1: the biggest rapper of the world. Fans made it clear
- 59:37Speaker 1: that they don't care. Yeah, and like low key. If
- 59:40Speaker 1: you go back to like Kanye's first album, Ryan Fest
- 59:42Speaker 1: wrote Jesus Walks and people didn't give a fuck, and
- 59:45Speaker 1: a lot of those people be in the room would
- 59:47Speaker 1: get creative. You know. There's some people that like to
- 59:50Speaker 1: sit in the room by themselves and they got the
- 59:52Speaker 1: whole plan on how to get to a to Z,
- 59:55Speaker 1: and then there's other people that like to get creative
- 59:57Speaker 1: with people. You know. I'm one of those people that.
- 59:59Speaker 1: That's why I have a lot of projects with different people,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: because you know, whether it's a producer or different artists,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: and I'll be in groups. And then also even when
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: I do my solo shit, I kind of like team
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: up with certain people to do it because I like
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: the team effort of creativity. You know. It's like I
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: don't think that I ever was, you know, sitting in
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: there just writing, you know, writing raps all by myself.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: You know, saying I was just gonna change the world
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: like that. It was something that I always did with
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: my homies, that I always did with other creatives, and
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: I feel like it's it's helped me in this industry,
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: do you know, just be able to hop on some
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: with somebody's team and then also do my own thing
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: and then do like it's you know, just should be happening. Yeah, Yeah,
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: that's it. That's what. Oh I love. I love tapping
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: in with a with a producer and uh kind of
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: working together on a on a vibe and energy, and
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: that's how you get Stony point one and two and
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: Blaze with US one and Blaze with US two and
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: Serial Killers the fourth one. And remember I came I
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: came from a group, so that that always says just
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: been in my heart. I guess the way I create. Wait,
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: which group did you come from? I was. I started
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: early in a group called Tangle Thoughts. So we live
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: in Philly and we moved out to LA together and
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: we actually released a Corrupt Presents album with with that
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: group in two thousand and seven. Bro, So that's how
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: far back it goes. Damn, I didn't know that. So
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: you were like rolling with the corruptionhit back in the day.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: That was it. That's how That's how I evenknew to
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: come come out here to LA because we were hitting
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: all the ceilings in Philly and it just didn't feel
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: just didn't feel real, you know, it didn't feel like
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: we could take it to the next level. So to
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: get the opportunity to come to LA was that was it.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: And especially with somebody you know at that at that point,
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: corrupts already legend. You know you grew up there. Man.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: Let me tell you some Streets is a Mother is
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: one of the most slept on albums of all time. Man.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: That fucking Roscoe his brother. Yeah, it's fucking fire exactly.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: And he could like rap rap. Both of them can
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: rap rap. But like I mean, obviously, you know, it's
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: just it's it's crazy when you think of Corrupt and
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: like how like I always remember on the Eminem Show
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: when Eminem like named all those rappers that get put
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: ahead of him, like Corrupt was one of them, red man.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: But I just I guess I wish Corrupt's career would
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: have shook it out a little bit differently. Hey, bro,
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: But if you look at them plaques and them records,
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: that he's no for sure. I'm like, damn, like there
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: was a point in time where he was on everybody's
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: album that like so many goods and shout out to
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: Corrupts moon Rocks. Hello, those moon Rocks ain't no joke
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: and they've been booming for a long time. Yeah, last question, Dizzy,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: this for you. Logic just retired to be with his family. Obviously,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: I know you're a big family guy. Like, could either
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: of you guys ever see yourself just stepping away from
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: hip hop? It's not making albums, just like I'm done,
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: I personally can't see it right now for me. Just
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: that's why you gotta just do things for your soul. Man.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: You gotta make sure you know. I was there. I've
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: seen Logic's whole you know, I was even on tour
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: with him, and I really just you know, I watched
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: how you move. I paid attention. I'm an observer. You know,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: you really gotta move at your pace and make sure
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: you're doing things that's right for your spirit. If you'll
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: get into a position and it'll be overwhelming, you know
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: what I'm saying, And I feel like you'll find yourself
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: needing to step away or take a breather. I don't
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: think Logic's done forever. I think Logic just needs a
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: break from all the judgment that comes with him. Probably. Yeah,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: he's been getting mad, you know, and he's been getting
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: it for a couple of years many. I feel like
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: ever since Everybody album came out and he kind of
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: started to talk about his biracial like, just been on
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: since then on his head. Bro, it's been o. He
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: ain't been getting no slack from there, and it was
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: already tough for him before then, just with the stigma
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: of being like a white rapper, you know, but I'm
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: also I'm biracial, right, But you know, he wants to
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: be known for what he is. So not to get
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: too deep or go to off subject, but I personally
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: can't see myself stepping away right now. I want to
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: keep inspiring and I feel like I'm getting better. Right,
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: Could you ever retire? I don't think so. I'm always
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: going to be involved in this shit in some kind
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: of way. I mean, this is this gave me life,
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: gave me purpose. Right. It's like, once I started doing music,
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: I fell in love with it. Then I had a
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: direction in life. Before that, I just was I just
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: was out here, so I think that I couldn't see
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: myself in the same thing like I see myself. I
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: gain more fans, more traction, get more opportunities, and understand
