- Lucas: So here we are, middle of June 2026, and crypto is having one of its better weeks in a while. Luna: It's kind of surreal given everything else that's happening. SpaceX just had the biggest IPO in history, and yet Bitcoin is up over five percent in five days. Lucas: Right. And it's not just Bitcoin. Ethereum's up nine and a half percent, Solana's up over thirteen, XRP nearly thirteen. Across the board, green. Luna: Which is the exact opposite of what a lot of people predicted. The conventional wisdom was that the SpaceX IPO would suck all the air out of risk assets, especially crypto. Lucas: Yeah, and that narrative had real teeth. Between the direct offering and all the hype, SpaceX pulled in what, something like fifty billion dollars in demand? Retail and institutional both. Luna: Ron Baron alone bought another billion dollars worth in the IPO, bringing his total stake to twenty-five billion. Lucas: That is a staggering number for a single stock. So the question is — if that much capital went into SpaceX, where did the money for this crypto rally come from? Luna: I mean, the easy answer is that it wasn't the same money. Crypto buyers and SpaceX buyers might be different pools. Lucas: Partly, but I think there's something more interesting going on. Look at stablecoin supply. Total market cap has actually been shrinking over the past few weeks, even as crypto prices rise. Luna: So that suggests people aren't piling in with new dollars from outside. They're rotating within the ecosystem. Lucas: Exactly. And that points to a different kind of rally. It's not fresh liquidity driving prices up. It's existing holders reallocating, maybe closing out shorts, maybe moving from stablecoins into volatile assets. Luna: Which would explain why Bitcoin dominance is also rising. We covered that a couple episodes ago, but it's still the pattern. When money moves within crypto, it tends to flow into Bitcoin first. Lucas: Right. And altcoins are benefiting, but they're still riskier. Solana's up thirteen percent but it's also coming off a lower base. The total market cap hasn't recovered to where it was before the SpaceX announcement. Luna: So this isn't a new bull run. It's more like a relief rally within a consolidating market. Lucas: I think that's fair. And the macro backdrop supports that interpretation. The Fed's effective rate is basically unchanged at three point six three percent. No rate cuts, no easing. So there's no macro catalyst flooding the system with cheap money. Luna: That's the piece that makes me cautious. If the Fed stays on hold and the SpaceX IPO actually starts trading more broadly, we could see another drain. Lucas: Yeah, and that's the key — the IPO just happened. The real liquidity impact might not be fully priced in yet. Institutions that committed to SpaceX had to put up cash, but some of that commitment might have been lined up months ago. The actual settlement and rebalancing could hit over the next few weeks. Luna: So you're saying this rally might be a head fake? Lucas: I'm saying we should watch the flow data closely. If stablecoin supply continues to shrink while prices rise, that's a divergence that usually doesn't end well. It means the rally is built on shifting existing chips, not new entrants. Luna: And if you're walking through the economy with us and this kind of analysis is making things click — we should mention that listener support is what keeps this show ad-free and independent. Lucas: Absolutely. If you find value in these conversations, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It's a simple way to help us keep digging into these numbers without any corporate influence. Luna: Even a small contribution goes a long way. And we really appreciate everyone who's already helped out. Lucas: Alright, back to the data. So if this rally is mostly internal rotation, the next question is what happens when the SpaceX hype settles. Will crypto find its own footing, or will it just drift lower? Luna: I've been looking at on-chain metrics for Bitcoin. The number of active addresses hasn't spiked. Transaction counts are flat. So the user base isn't expanding. Lucas: That's a red flag for a sustainable move. Without new users, you're relying on existing holders to keep pushing prices up, and they eventually run out of conviction or capital. Luna: Especially when the alternative is a company like SpaceX, which has a very tangible narrative. Mars missions, Starship, Starlink. That's a story people can understand. Lucas: Right. And crypto's narrative has been muddled. We talked about the stablecoin shrinkage, the airdrop failures, the DeFi yields compressing. It's hard to point to one compelling reason for someone to jump in right now. Luna: Unless they're betting on a Fed pivot later this year. But the data doesn't support that yet. Lucas: No, it doesn't. The Fed's been crystal clear — they need to see more progress on inflation. And with the economy still adding jobs, there's no urgency to cut. Luna: So what's your call? Is this a dead cat bounce or the start of something? Lucas: I'd lean toward bounce, but I want to see if Bitcoin can hold above sixty-five thousand. If it does, and if stablecoin supply stabilizes or grows, then maybe there's more to it. But if we start next week back below sixty-four, this week was just noise. Luna: And what about altcoins? Solana at seventy-five dollars is still way off its highs. Lucas: Yeah, Solana and Cardano and XRP are all still in bear market territory relative to their peaks. These weekly gains look big in percentage terms, but they're coming off very low bases. XRP at one dollar twenty-nine is great for the week, but it's still down over sixty percent from its all time high. Luna: So the real question is whether this rotation can reignite animal spirits, or if it's just a temporary reprieve before the next leg down. Lucas: Exactly. And for now, the smart money seems to be watching from the sidelines. The SpaceX IPO gave everyone a shiny new toy. Crypto needs to prove it still has a unique value proposition beyond speculation. Luna: Which is a tough ask when the biggest story in markets is a rocket company. Lucas: It is. But crypto has been written off before. I'm not ready to bury it. I just think the next few weeks are going to tell us a lot about where we really are in this cycle. Luna: Agreed. And we'll be watching the flows.
