- 0:00Speaker 1: Back on the Yukon Hockey Coaches Show.
- 0:01Speaker 2: We're just talking about Anthony Liot Sumaki, who we had
- 0:03Speaker 2: on last show and we're teeing.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Him up here.
- 0:06Speaker 2: You mentioned about what your expectations are of him. We've
- 0:10Speaker 2: seen some examples of that, particularly from a physical standpoint.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Last handful of games game in Hartford laid out one
- 0:16Speaker 2: of the BC players, Ryan Comedy, a couple of big
- 0:19Speaker 2: hits in the UMAs series. Yeah, and he's one of
- 0:21Speaker 2: the youngest kids in college hockey and he is knocking
- 0:23Speaker 2: guys around.
- 0:24Speaker 1: But he's also playing very well too. Let's not forget that.
- 0:27Speaker 3: He's an elite skater. He's so strong. I didn't realize
- 0:32Speaker 3: how strong he was, especially on his skates. And he's
- 0:38Speaker 3: really coming for us as a player. You know, since
- 0:40Speaker 3: he's been paired with Viking, the two of them have
- 0:43Speaker 3: been dynamite, you know, taking out taking on the other
- 0:48Speaker 3: team's top line an awful lot. And I'm really excited
- 0:52Speaker 3: to see where his game's going to go.
- 0:54Speaker 4: Where has it gone the most so far this year.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I just think his overall all play and confidence, his
- 1:02Speaker 3: gaps are great. He trusts his feet and his strength. Yeah,
- 1:08Speaker 3: he's really really strong and going into battles and winning battles,
- 1:13Speaker 3: and he's playing the off side, which isn't easy. For one,
- 1:17Speaker 3: it's not easy. I always think that it's easier to
- 1:20Speaker 3: come in as a freshman and be a forward. It's
- 1:22Speaker 3: a little tougher to be a defenseman and make an
- 1:25Speaker 3: impact as a freshman because it's just there's so much
- 1:28Speaker 3: more you have to deal with as a defenseman than
- 1:30Speaker 3: you do as a forward. And he's just the steps
- 1:38Speaker 3: and the jump he's made from Colorado College to now
- 1:43Speaker 3: has been astronomical. It's been dynamite.
- 1:47Speaker 4: So he's not one of the all bus guys. He
- 1:49Speaker 4: actually gets out on the ice and it makes it
- 1:51Speaker 4: happen out there with his strength.
- 1:52Speaker 3: He does, Yeah, he does.
- 1:54Speaker 1: There you go.
- 1:56Speaker 2: We did get a good kind. I don't know if
- 1:57Speaker 2: it's a question for the coach. We had a lot tonight.
- 1:59Speaker 2: A lot had to do with the lights. But I
- 2:01Speaker 2: seen a lot of broken sticks lately both side. You know, everybody,
- 2:04Speaker 2: not just Yukon but bbc UMass a couple of.
- 2:08Speaker 1: What was it the BC series? A couple of broken sticks?
- 2:10Speaker 1: Or was that Friday night?
- 2:12Speaker 3: It's Friday night? We broke taber broke three Friday night.
- 2:20Speaker 3: It's concerned for me. It's happened in way too much.
- 2:23Speaker 3: We were just talking off air about it that there
- 2:27Speaker 3: should be something. The stick companies should be on the
- 2:30Speaker 3: hook here a little bit because they're not cheap. You know,
- 2:33Speaker 3: if you're paying two hundred dollars for a stick, it
- 2:35Speaker 3: shouldn't break the face off. So the old Eastern synergy,
- 2:40Speaker 3: that thing never broke and I think maybe that's why
- 2:43Speaker 3: Eastern went out of business.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I don't know how many stick companies are there now.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Basically it's CCM and Bauer. Those are the two pretty much.
- 2:50Speaker 1: No Victoriaville, no co Ho remember the co host?
- 2:52Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Titan, Yeah, the red Titan.
- 2:54Speaker 1: That thing never broke it.
- 2:56Speaker 3: It's hurt when you slash somebody.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I had a Titan for deck hockey. I remember those.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Oh those are good, Yeah, those are good.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:03Speaker 1: How thin are these things? Like the shafts when you break?
- 3:07Speaker 1: How I think it's more?
- 3:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know, Yeah don't.
- 3:14Speaker 4: I mean, you know, in baseball they talk about broken
- 3:16Speaker 4: bats because guys want handles that are thinner so they
- 3:18Speaker 4: can whip it through the zone more. Is there anything
- 3:20Speaker 4: like that in hockey or is it it's just the material.
- 3:23Speaker 3: At this point, I think, so yeah, I just think,
- 3:25Speaker 3: what do.
- 3:25Speaker 2: You mean, like, well, we're BREI did last week on
- 3:28Speaker 2: a check swing on checks wing, just above the hands.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Did you see the video of that?
- 3:31Speaker 3: No?
- 3:31Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you broke He took a tap. He didn't
- 3:34Speaker 2: even swing. He did this and the batches snapped in half.
- 3:38Speaker 3: And sometimes you probably have a you know, the hairline. Yeah,
- 3:42Speaker 3: or that can happen, but you know, brand new sticks
- 3:47Speaker 3: shouldn't break like that.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Yep, No, uh, you've got This is a tight little
- 3:52Speaker 2: road here. Providence clinched the regular season crown over the weekend.
- 3:55Speaker 2: They're not going to be caught. But there's a lot
- 3:58Speaker 2: still to be determined between ween seventh and second over
- 4:04Speaker 2: the next two games. Some teams only have one game left,
- 4:07Speaker 2: be you, Northeastern have one game left, so does Maine, Yukon,
- 4:10Speaker 2: U Mass, New Hampshire where you see Thursday, they have too,
- 4:14Speaker 2: So there's still a lot to play for here.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Oh god, yeah, it's you know. The nice thing for
- 4:20Speaker 3: us is that if we win on Thursday, then we're
- 4:23Speaker 3: guaranteed another home game at Tuscano, and that's kind of
- 4:26Speaker 3: where our focus is, where even if even if we
- 4:32Speaker 3: weren't guaranteed another home game, we'd still be focused on sure,
- 4:36Speaker 3: you know, trying to win that hockey game. But that's
- 4:38Speaker 3: just a little more added incentive for us to be
- 4:41Speaker 3: able to play at home, you know, in the first
- 4:43Speaker 3: round of the playoffs.
- 4:44Speaker 4: And thinking back to the last home game on Friday
- 4:47Speaker 4: against you Mass with Senior Day, was there anything noteworthy
- 4:53Speaker 4: about the actual pomp and circumstance and the family. Is
- 4:56Speaker 4: any any stories of I mean families. Seemed like everybody
- 4:59Speaker 4: had families, make it out and a successful night celebrating
- 5:03Speaker 4: a really impressive group.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Yeah, and you know, we had our little brunch banquet
- 5:07Speaker 3: yesterday for the We always do that on Sunday after
- 5:11Speaker 3: Senior Night, and it was really amazing to me. We
- 5:15Speaker 3: had seven players and one manager and how eloquent they
- 5:20Speaker 3: were because we have them all get up and say
- 5:23Speaker 3: a few words, and usually you know, they think in
- 5:25Speaker 3: their parents and they say all, you know, things a
- 5:30Speaker 3: kids say, you know, the typical things that a kid
- 5:34Speaker 3: might say at a banquet like that. But it was
- 5:36Speaker 3: more than that. They were so eloquent and Ed Blair,
- 5:41Speaker 3: our trainer, came up to me today and said, I've
- 5:43Speaker 3: never seen a senior class speak like that, and that's
- 5:49Speaker 3: a really rewarding thing as a coach to watch because
- 5:52Speaker 3: I know that none of them could have done it
- 5:54Speaker 3: four years ago. And to watch their maturation process and
- 5:58Speaker 3: to see how far they've come as young men, that's
- 6:02Speaker 3: really rewarding.
- 6:03Speaker 4: Emotional, I mean, like when they're getting up there.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Any Yeah, some.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Of it was emotional, but it was really heartfelt and yeah,
- 6:12Speaker 3: and all of their speeches were well thought out. Really
- 6:16Speaker 3: it was you know, it was a great day.
- 6:20Speaker 2: All right, speaking of seniors. Time used to coming up next.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Then later Trey Scott, we'll get to our player interviews.
- 6:26Speaker 2: We're live at Bear Smoke House Barbecue. Last hockey coaches
- 6:29Speaker 2: showed the season here from Hartford on Learfield.
- 6:31Speaker 1: To stay with us. Back in a minute,
