- 0:58Speaker 2: Man Global super Star. Just saw him at the iHeart
- 1:01Speaker 2: Awards on Monday, Sir David on the building.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Good to see how you're doing, Man, Good to see
- 1:06Speaker 1: you bro.
- 1:07Speaker 2: When I saw you, Man, it's so crazy because you know,
- 1:08Speaker 2: I never saw you live, and I had to tell
- 1:10Speaker 2: you last year I saw you at the BET Awards. Okay,
- 1:14Speaker 2: you had the BT experience, you had that thing turned up, bro,
- 1:17Speaker 2: shout out.
- 1:17Speaker 1: BT man, and the album is my last album just
- 1:19Speaker 1: came out that time.
- 1:20Speaker 2: But it was just so crazy to see like all
- 1:23Speaker 2: of the live show, Like it was like a real
- 1:26Speaker 2: come to like a tour stop, you know, because that's
- 1:28Speaker 2: the thing. People go to the BT Experience and they're
- 1:30Speaker 2: like they're going for like maybe someone's there for sexy read,
- 1:33Speaker 2: maybe someone's there for you. So it was like a
- 1:35Speaker 2: mixed crowd of people, but they were fucking with you though. Yes,
- 1:37Speaker 2: that was amazing. Yeah it was dope, man. But how
- 1:40Speaker 2: is everything?
- 1:40Speaker 1: Man? Man is good?
- 1:41Speaker 2: Man?
- 1:42Speaker 1: Just fresh off turning into the album, you know what
- 1:45Speaker 1: it is, rolling? Rolling? It out comes out in about
- 1:47Speaker 1: three weeks, you know, just just been the vibe, got
- 1:50Speaker 1: married lest Dear congrat you know what I'm saying, So
- 1:52Speaker 1: just happy to get back to work, you know what
- 1:54Speaker 1: I'm saying about to be crazy, how do you know it's.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Like finished the album? Like how do you like? What
- 1:59Speaker 2: is like the final thing? We're like, all right, it's finished.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I mean you never get to that and you just
- 2:05Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, like I think I edited
- 2:08Speaker 1: a song to like last month or so, so you
- 2:11Speaker 1: never really get to the point where it's.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Like, so something got put in like right at the
- 2:13Speaker 2: finish line.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Yeah. To me, it's more of because it's not a
- 2:17Speaker 1: period where we go in the studio and like we recorded.
- 2:19Speaker 1: It's like I'm always in the studio.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Like this is your life.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, So when it's time for an album, all
- 2:25Speaker 1: I have to do is pick songs that I have record,
- 2:27Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, Pick the vibe. And when
- 2:29Speaker 1: we're thinking about the album name and the the theme
- 2:32Speaker 1: and stuff like that, it was like, what time is
- 2:36Speaker 1: that already? I was like, you know what, my boys like,
- 2:38Speaker 1: it's name in five. I was like, you're right, it's
- 2:40Speaker 1: the fifth album, right, you know. Five is the symbol
- 2:43Speaker 1: of hope. You know what I'm saying, It's my favorite number,
- 2:45Speaker 1: my lucky number. It signifies, it signifies a lot of
- 2:48Speaker 1: other things, you know saying. So we're like, yo, it'll
- 2:50Speaker 1: be dope, you know what I'm saying. We could do
- 2:52Speaker 1: a nice rollout with it. So it was just about
- 2:55Speaker 1: you know, picking songs. But with this album, I was
- 2:57Speaker 1: you know, I used to be a producer. So with
- 2:59Speaker 1: this album, I really you know, focused on production. I
- 3:03Speaker 1: feel like that you were hands on. I feel like
- 3:05Speaker 1: all the nos. Yeah, a lot like into the production,
- 3:08Speaker 1: went into the production. But we excited, you know, about
- 3:11Speaker 1: to get back on the road again, and yeah we're
- 3:13Speaker 1: just out here in elation in the video. Yo.
- 3:17Speaker 2: When like for you, like taking the approach to be
- 3:20Speaker 2: more hands on on the production with your background for
- 3:22Speaker 2: this album isn't like like you said, the fans will
- 3:25Speaker 2: be able to tell the difference, but for you, is
- 3:26Speaker 2: it like because I feel like so many of our
- 3:30Speaker 2: favorite artists are so multi talented, like j Cole came
- 3:33Speaker 2: in the game producing a lot of his own.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Shit, you know what I'm saying, Like my first single.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Producer, it's got to feel a lot more personal to
- 3:39Speaker 2: you to put a body of workout that you have
- 3:40Speaker 2: your fingerprints all the way in for real, you know
- 3:43Speaker 2: what I mean.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Yeah, especially when you like, like I'm around a good
- 3:47Speaker 1: space now musically, Like I've met some real dope producers,
- 3:51Speaker 1: co producers as well writers, you know what I'm saying.
- 3:54Speaker 1: So I feel like with this album, it was a
- 3:56Speaker 1: lot of you know unity, right, you know that that
- 3:59Speaker 1: came into the process of making this album. Another thing
- 4:02Speaker 1: I like about it is that, you know what I'm saying,
- 4:04Speaker 1: we didn't rush. The album was actually meant to come
- 4:07Speaker 1: out last year. You know what I'm saying, We've been
- 4:09Speaker 1: done since last year. But my team and I were
- 4:12Speaker 1: just like, you know what, let's take our time. You
- 4:13Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. That's not rush, that's playing well.
- 4:16Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. The music has always been there,
- 4:18Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So with this one, you know,
- 4:21Speaker 1: we took our time and I feel like, you know,
- 4:23Speaker 1: we selected the perfect set of songs. It's about to
- 4:26Speaker 1: hear that.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Talk to me about getting married, because I got married
- 4:30Speaker 2: in twenty eighteen. It's a big step in life. Yes,
- 4:34Speaker 2: especially for somebody like yourself, who's you know you got,
- 4:37Speaker 2: you got so much going on, and I feel like,
- 4:40Speaker 2: especially for somebody who's got some sort of public notoriety
- 4:43Speaker 2: and a level of success. I'm sure it's a lot
- 4:45Speaker 2: more harder to like find that person through all the
- 4:49Speaker 2: shit that comes your way. What made you kind of,
- 4:53Speaker 2: you know, say this is my soulmate this time.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I think I'm one of the lucky ones because like
- 4:58Speaker 1: me and my partner, like, we've been together for a
- 5:01Speaker 1: long time prior to so she's been rocking with you
- 5:03Speaker 1: for a month to get married, you know what I'm saying.
- 5:05Speaker 1: So we've been living together since we were like basically,
- 5:09Speaker 1: so she saw the glow up. Yes, you know what
- 5:11Speaker 1: I'm saying. I was a little bit you know what
- 5:14Speaker 1: I'm saying, And I met but I was young. I
- 5:16Speaker 1: was very young, you know what I'm saying. I was like,
- 5:18Speaker 1: well my third year in college or so. Yeah, and
- 5:22Speaker 1: that's what we met. Went to the same school. So
- 5:24Speaker 1: I think I was it was lucky enough, you know,
- 5:25Speaker 1: for us to move in together early, very early, like
- 5:28Speaker 1: I'm talking about like eight years before you know what
- 5:31Speaker 1: I'm saying. Even getting married, for sure, the transition from
- 5:34Speaker 1: it's still different. You know, getting married is still no joke,
- 5:37Speaker 1: like you said. But and you know we have you've
- 5:39Speaker 1: had three kids. So it's like the transition from you know,
- 5:42Speaker 1: living together, first of all, being good friends. I feel
- 5:46Speaker 1: like that's best, the number one thing that's very important,
- 5:49Speaker 1: and then transitioning to living together, which is a huge step. Yes,
- 5:53Speaker 1: living together. And throughout all the time we was living together,
- 5:57Speaker 1: I was touring on the Yeah, I was really on
- 6:01Speaker 1: the road like every like real, real busy. So I
- 6:03Speaker 1: feel like she's always she always understood, like, Yo, this
- 6:06Speaker 1: is what I gotta do to work, you know what
- 6:08Speaker 1: I'm saying. And she also knows that that's one of
- 6:11Speaker 1: the most happiest moments of my life is when I'm working.
- 6:14Speaker 1: She knows I love you know, music, just like when
- 6:16Speaker 1: she's in the kitchen. She's a chef, you know what
- 6:18Speaker 1: I'm saying. I know she loves cooking.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Oh you got a chef, you're land. I bet you
- 6:25Speaker 2: your cribs cracking. I'm surprised you ain't fatter.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I've tried to watch you with my wife. Man.
- 6:29Speaker 2: When I first moved in with her, she's a hell
- 6:31Speaker 2: of a cook, and all I was eating was Mexican
- 6:33Speaker 2: food because she she's Mexican. I like, I put like
- 6:37Speaker 2: fifty pounds on in two years. Man, just fucking up
- 6:39Speaker 2: my wife's food. I had to slow down.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Crazy. Yeah, so that transition wasn't too crazy for me.
- 6:46Speaker 1: But I'll say this, you know what I'm saying, just
- 6:48Speaker 1: having to be you know, being such a you know,
- 6:52Speaker 1: I feel like a lot of popular people are real vulnerable,
- 6:55Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So just having to be
- 6:57Speaker 1: careful doing that. You know what I'm saying. Now, this
- 6:58Speaker 1: is bind the union for sure. What I'm saying. We
- 7:01Speaker 1: had a whole wedding. We've invited everybody from all across
- 7:04Speaker 1: the world to celebrate. Where was the wedding at and
- 7:07Speaker 1: Nigeria fire. It was on some crazies wounded ship like
- 7:10Speaker 1: some mad crazy like it was like a holiday, yeah ja,
- 7:15Speaker 1: like that was one of the best days in my life.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Anybody flowing from all over the world. So just even
- 7:20Speaker 1: looking at my kids, you know, my daughters again older,
- 7:22Speaker 1: they got to go to school. My daughters, both of
- 7:24Speaker 1: them have iPhones. You know what I'm saying on TikTok,
- 7:28Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So as we get older,
- 7:29Speaker 1: obviously having to be mindful of you know, things we
- 7:33Speaker 1: kind of do in the public eye.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Of course they could see it.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Yeah, as well as also you know, juggling the other
- 7:39Speaker 1: side of it being a superstar, right, and this is
- 7:41Speaker 1: what you actually love and this is what it's been
- 7:43Speaker 1: in the bucks and right as well. You know what
- 7:45Speaker 1: I'm saying, because when I get on stage, it's like
- 7:48Speaker 1: I'm married, but it's like, you know what I'm saying,
- 7:50Speaker 1: But you're an entertainer, yes, but she's always been around that.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good. That's important. Man.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Like I said, I'm one of the lucky ones.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Yeah, you are, for sure.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Man. Some people meet females and then down the line
- 8:02Speaker 1: is like she's you know, females like yo, she didn't
- 8:05Speaker 1: know it was crazy like this. And for some people just.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Right, what's your what's her like?
- 8:10Speaker 1: Good?
- 8:10Speaker 2: What's your favorite dish she cooks for you?
- 8:13Speaker 1: So I love like just white rice. She makes this
- 8:18Speaker 1: killer stew, some stew. I love some nice pepper stew,
- 8:22Speaker 1: fish chicken fire. And then I also like she makes
- 8:26Speaker 1: a killer all craw seafood, all coral. Okay. With this
- 8:29Speaker 1: thing we called eba, it's like it's like flour. It's
- 8:32Speaker 1: kind of like mashed potato, bud. It's different, it's different. Yeah,
- 8:36Speaker 1: we use our hands to eat it, dip it.
- 8:40Speaker 2: But yeah, she's like any food you could eat, your
- 8:42Speaker 2: hands to eat.
- 8:42Speaker 1: It's always fire.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Love Indian food chucks to Indians.
- 8:45Speaker 1: They got figured out over there. I went to India
- 8:47Speaker 1: this year actually my first time.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Yeah, they got good food. Man that curry, man curry.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Yeah that curry be hidden yo, something that's dope. Your
- 8:58Speaker 2: dad he open the power plan that gave three million
- 9:02Speaker 2: people power in Africa?
- 9:04Speaker 1: Was it through? I don't know exactly.
- 9:06Speaker 2: I saw something like it. If the capabilities are up
- 9:08Speaker 2: to get like essentially helpteen percent helping three million people
- 9:11Speaker 2: have access to power.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Fifteen percent of the electricy that we build them one
- 9:15Speaker 1: more and when that is completed, I think we're going
- 9:19Speaker 1: to be supplying about if not more, I think the
- 9:22Speaker 1: number is like fifty percent.
- 9:23Speaker 2: It's a big deal.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Yeah, of like I think to West Africa, all Ninegeria.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I'm not sure about the number, but like, how cool
- 9:28Speaker 2: is that? Because like for people who don't know, I
- 9:30Speaker 2: mean a lot of your fans know about your pops.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Your pops is very successful.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Yeah guy, you know.
- 9:35Speaker 2: But I think it's important to be able to highlight
- 9:37Speaker 2: like not only are you who you are, but your
- 9:40Speaker 2: family is also like helping a lot of people.
- 9:43Speaker 1: It's crazy, and I've seen them build that from just
- 9:47Speaker 1: being young. I remember him just having the idea. A
- 9:49Speaker 1: lot of people discouraged them from the idea because he
- 9:52Speaker 1: was a banker, right and that was going so well
- 9:55Speaker 1: for him already, so like they said, if it ain't broke.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Them right, right right.
- 10:00Speaker 1: And then he just always believes in just a power generation,
- 10:06Speaker 1: which is electricity of course, et cetera. So yeah, he's
- 10:11Speaker 1: more working on this project. I remember him going to
- 10:12Speaker 1: China on trips to get like investors and stuff like that,
- 10:16Speaker 1: and then I remember the first one coming, the second one,
- 10:21Speaker 1: and then we just getting lit.
- 10:22Speaker 2: It's like, you know what I'm saying, Like quite literally
- 10:25Speaker 2: a lot of people are getting so.
- 10:27Speaker 1: And eventually they became something the country dependent on. You
- 10:33Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Oh, let me just move. They
- 10:36Speaker 1: became you know, the power plans became something the country
- 10:39Speaker 1: eventually dependent on. You know what I'm saying. It's just
- 10:42Speaker 1: like right now, before all their electric cars all around America,
- 10:48Speaker 1: somebody had had had the idea to have a charging station,
- 10:51Speaker 1: but like nine.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Years ago, it wasn't it was it wasn't a thing.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Now but now it's no thing, you know, supplying their
- 10:59Speaker 2: minds amazing.
- 11:00Speaker 1: So I saw him just blossom into that, you know,
- 11:04Speaker 1: an electricity tycoon that he is, and it's just amazing.
- 11:08Speaker 2: It's funny too, because you told the story last time
- 11:10Speaker 2: you were here about how you were kind of like
- 11:12Speaker 2: on the run, kind of from your parents when you
- 11:14Speaker 2: dipped out from school. Yeah, do you remember, because you're
- 11:17Speaker 2: because with your dad being who he is, like, at
- 11:20Speaker 2: what point in time did he fully say, Okay, son,
- 11:23Speaker 2: you're onto something with this shit.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I mean I wasn't there like the exact time, but
- 11:28Speaker 1: everybody just had that feeling. I feel like it wasn't
- 11:30Speaker 1: even a feeling about him feeling that way. Yeah, I
- 11:33Speaker 1: think everybody felt that way. Yeah, like it's undeniable. It
- 11:36Speaker 1: was like it was like a mutual feeling, not only
- 11:38Speaker 1: in the country and my family, to my peers, everybody,
- 11:42Speaker 1: and you're like, yo, you know when you have something,
- 11:44Speaker 1: and everybody like they don't have to tell you, you
- 11:46Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So it did get to that
- 11:48Speaker 1: point where he was like like I couldn't even really
- 11:52Speaker 1: be in school.
- 11:52Speaker 2: I was distracted because you could have worked for him
- 11:54Speaker 2: and kicked it easy, you know.
- 11:56Speaker 1: What I'm saying. But this is what I love, like,
- 11:57Speaker 1: this is what gave me them, this is what gave
- 11:59Speaker 1: me energy. You know what I'm saying. You know, this
- 12:02Speaker 1: is what I was about music. So it was kind
- 12:06Speaker 1: of too late by the time, you know, he wanted
- 12:10Speaker 1: me to, you know, do something else. But I always
- 12:12Speaker 1: say that he was never really against me being an entertainer.
- 12:17Speaker 1: He was just big on principally, big big on education, principled.
- 12:27Speaker 1: It's it's my family. You go to school, you finish
- 12:30Speaker 1: up on time, and there's an office waiting for you.
- 12:33Speaker 1: It's just this is how it goes. I'm the last
- 12:34Speaker 1: kid of five, you know what I'm saying. So for me,
- 12:37Speaker 1: it much happening. You have five kids.
- 12:39Speaker 2: The first kid they're they're following, they're following suits, and
- 12:43Speaker 2: the last kids like, Nope, I'm gonna go sing the
- 12:46Speaker 2: last one.
- 12:47Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. You know, I'm like, I'm
- 12:49Speaker 1: gonna go sing.
- 12:50Speaker 2: And then it worked out.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Though it worked out, you know what I'm saying. He's very,
- 12:54Speaker 1: very active involved in my career at the moment, you
- 12:57Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So that's been blessed to have
- 13:00Speaker 1: him in my life over the years.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Did he get the album first?
- 13:03Speaker 1: Of course, he's heard everything. What I do when I
- 13:08Speaker 1: get the link, Like when I finally decide, like, okay,
- 13:10Speaker 1: this is these other songs, Like the album is seventeen songs.
- 13:15Speaker 1: So I put a link of like forty songs and
- 13:17Speaker 1: I send it to my family.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Members, the crew, all the homies, Hey check it out.
- 13:21Speaker 1: So I'm gonna check it out there, you know. Yeah,
- 13:24Speaker 1: they'll tell me, y'all tell me your favorites. And I
- 13:27Speaker 1: use that kind of channel. What's a pick? And sometimes
- 13:30Speaker 1: I don't agree with it, but sometimes public opinion matters.
- 13:33Speaker 2: You'd be like, damn, like maybe I'll ck. Maybe I
- 13:34Speaker 2: didn't think that this was gonna make the album, but
- 13:36Speaker 2: maybe now it will make the album.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Yeah, stuff like that. Yo.
- 13:39Speaker 2: You and Chris Brown have like a pretty insane chemistry. Obviously,
- 13:42Speaker 2: you guys, you know, nominated for awards together. I mean,
- 13:45Speaker 2: Sensation was a huge record for Chris c bat ohb uh,
- 13:50Speaker 2: what what would you say? Is like the most cool
- 13:54Speaker 2: part about being in a studio with Chris Brown because
- 13:56Speaker 2: he is a workaholic. These are Michael Jackson.
- 13:59Speaker 1: You feel like every time I'm there, I just thank God. Like,
- 14:03Speaker 1: I'm just happy to have the opportunity to just witness this.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and not only to witness this as a co artist,
- 14:10Speaker 2: but also to witnesses as his friend, as family.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Chris amazing person. You know what I'm saying. It's like
- 14:19Speaker 1: you be talking to him one minute, this second minute
- 14:22Speaker 1: he's doing a badmint on stage. She's like, Yo, this
- 14:24Speaker 1: guy's crazy. You know what I'm saying.
- 14:26Speaker 2: It's just just to have that full package. He can
- 14:30Speaker 2: he can draw, he can he can paint, he can act,
- 14:33Speaker 2: he can pay, he can do it all right, you
- 14:36Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. Just to have that kind of
- 14:38Speaker 2: person around you. If that's not inspiration, I don't know
- 14:40Speaker 2: what is. I always say it's either Chris Brown or
- 14:44Speaker 2: Jamie Fox that are just like the most talented human
- 14:47Speaker 2: beings alive. Crazy because Jamie Fox is like an elite
- 14:50Speaker 2: stand up comedian, elite actor, e leite singer, and Chris
- 14:53Speaker 2: Brown is just elited everything, you.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Know what I'm saying. So just having the opportunity to
- 14:57Speaker 1: just see it firsthand, and then and he goes on
- 15:00Speaker 1: tour and were performed together, just to see him do
- 15:03Speaker 1: his thing and how he just transforms into another person
- 15:06Speaker 1: once he just gets in that you know, gets in
- 15:09Speaker 1: that mode. Is just amazing to see.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Man, for sure, I saw you got the new record
- 15:14Speaker 2: with y G. Marley out.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Yeah, shout out to y G. Yeah, yesterday he was
- 15:19Speaker 1: he was.
- 15:19Speaker 2: He was out here too. We saw him.
- 15:20Speaker 1: He was out there. Yeah, he was there.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Yeah. How cool was it being able to tap in
- 15:25Speaker 2: and uh, you know, do the thing with with Lauren
- 15:27Speaker 2: and and and pop out on stage.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Man, it was a moment. Yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Shout out to y G. Marley. Man, Shout out to
- 15:33Speaker 1: the whole Marley family. Shout out to miss Lauren Hill,
- 15:36Speaker 1: a legend, the Queen. I met YG.
- 15:39Speaker 2: About a year or two ago. I can't remember where.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I was on touring in Australia. So me
- 15:46Speaker 2: and his mom were headlining festival together. Crazy, you know
- 15:50Speaker 2: what I'm saying. So I think I got to the
- 15:52Speaker 2: hotel and I think me and my boy went to
- 15:53Speaker 2: get something by the ball to eat, and then I
- 15:56Speaker 2: think I see her band members. I think YG was
- 15:58Speaker 2: with him and he introduced, you know, introduced himself. Oh
- 16:03Speaker 2: mama here, He's like, yeah, she performed tonight, stuff like that,
- 16:06Speaker 2: and then we ended up, you know, shange your contacts.
- 16:08Speaker 1: And then I think I had the after party after
- 16:10Speaker 1: the festival, he pulled up and funny enough, I didn't
- 16:13Speaker 1: even know he was an artist at the time. He
- 16:15Speaker 1: was just on tour with his mom. And then months
- 16:18Speaker 1: go by and I'm on the radio.
- 16:21Speaker 2: You start hearing his record, And at first I didn't
- 16:25Speaker 2: put too on too.
- 16:25Speaker 1: I knew his name was YG, but I.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Don't know there's another YG too. There's a G in
- 16:29Speaker 2: l A.
- 16:30Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I didn't put you in
- 16:31Speaker 1: too that it was actually him until I think I
- 16:34Speaker 1: saw him a performance. I was like, bro, Bro, and
- 16:39Speaker 1: then I reached out to him. I was like, Yo,
- 16:41Speaker 1: congress on your record. I'm happy for you, you know,
- 16:43Speaker 1: just like you know a normal person would do. And
- 16:46Speaker 1: I was like, Yo, we gotta lock in. You know
- 16:48Speaker 1: what I like is the bringing together different cultures. I
- 16:52Speaker 1: felt like there's been a drift in between Africa and
- 16:58Speaker 1: the Caribbean, you know what I'm saying, And that's real.
- 17:01Speaker 2: I feel like back then, I think, because like you mentioned,
- 17:04Speaker 2: like like how how big is what you guys are
- 17:07Speaker 2: doing in like Jamaica huge? Because I was in Jamaica
- 17:11Speaker 2: and we were at a club and I was here
- 17:12Speaker 2: in Afro be huge. I just can't hear Santo. It's
- 17:15Speaker 2: all kind of the same bpm.
- 17:16Speaker 1: So it's I just came from Trinidad Tobago. You know,
- 17:19Speaker 1: the music that's like Soca is different. But they playing
- 17:22Speaker 1: afrobeats out there. And then I've done trips. I have
- 17:26Speaker 1: big songs of popcorn, you know what I'm saying. So
- 17:28Speaker 1: I always loved that side of town. I love the Caribbean,
- 17:32Speaker 1: I love the people. Me and my wife take vacation
- 17:34Speaker 1: every year. I love that Red Snapper. You know what
- 17:37Speaker 1: I'm saying. Me and my wife take vacation that every
- 17:40Speaker 1: New Year's you know, at the same kiss, we'd.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Be like island hopping.
- 17:44Speaker 1: You know, last day we did Bahamas. The year before that,
- 17:46Speaker 1: same kids birthday we did on Tigo bag and I
- 17:50Speaker 1: collaborate with a lot of Jamaican artists.
- 17:52Speaker 2: I got two Jamaican artists on my album. You know
- 17:54Speaker 2: what I'm saying. Sancia four p. Fifty shout out to Shensia.
- 17:57Speaker 2: You know, he's one of my favorite.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Like I was saying, I'm just happy that the connection
- 18:03Speaker 1: between the Caribbean and Africa is kind of piping up
- 18:08Speaker 1: back together. Yeah.
- 18:11Speaker 2: I went to uh Montego Bay for the first time
- 18:13Speaker 2: with my wife like two months ago.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Amazing.
- 18:17Speaker 2: We jumped in, We jumped in a boat with some
- 18:19Speaker 2: rostas and they took us to an island and they
- 18:20Speaker 2: cut lobsters on a rock for us that they just
- 18:22Speaker 2: caught and it was good. I was smacking.
- 18:25Speaker 1: The food is so good, so good, amazing.
- 18:27Speaker 2: That jerk chickens it's so spicy. But that should be
- 18:29Speaker 2: fucking you up. Man, you had a jerk ticket, that
- 18:32Speaker 2: jerk chicken, you'd be like, you'll be sweating. You've been
- 18:35Speaker 2: so good, so flavorful, man, especially the ones like on
- 18:39Speaker 2: the side of the road. That's the only way to go,
- 18:41Speaker 2: is the ones, not the ones at the resort side
- 18:44Speaker 2: of the road.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Killer, And if you ain't waiting thirty minutes for your food,
- 18:49Speaker 2: it's not the spots killer. You mentioned. Chancia is on
- 18:54Speaker 2: the album, obviously, why Mary's on the album? Is there
- 18:56Speaker 2: anybody else on this project that you could talk about
- 18:59Speaker 2: three weeks away?
- 19:00Speaker 1: Definitely Victoria Money. Yeah, we got a bigger I'm actually here.
- 19:04Speaker 1: She in the video tomorrow with her. She's amazing, you
- 19:06Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. She's amazing. I'm mad at the
- 19:08Speaker 1: Grammy's last, not this last Grammys, the Grammys before and
- 19:12Speaker 1: I actually did, uh. I did like a panel with
- 19:16Speaker 1: a producer, d Miles, amazing producer.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Now she's incredible.
- 19:20Speaker 1: And then we just linked after that, you know, DM
- 19:23Speaker 1: there like, yeah, I loved her record that was on
- 19:24Speaker 1: the radio at the time. Yeah, no, that one and
- 19:28Speaker 1: thinks she had another one.
- 19:29Speaker 2: She's got a lot. I mean, she's she's out of here.
- 19:31Speaker 1: And she was. It was dope, and I just I
- 19:33Speaker 1: like challenging myself. I was like, I like when people
- 19:35Speaker 1: be like, yo, what would the Victoria Mo name DAVIDO
- 19:38Speaker 1: sound like? That's weird, Like you know what I'm saying.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Then it come out You're like, yo, this is all
- 19:41Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So, yeah, we got an
- 19:43Speaker 1: amazing she got an amazing record on the album with me.
- 19:46Speaker 2: You just pronounce your name DAVIDO. And I've always said that,
- 19:48Speaker 2: But when I first met you, you said David Oh,
- 19:50Speaker 2: So fucking I'm confused, David same thing. I know, I know,
- 19:53Speaker 2: but I always say DAVIDO. But then when I first
- 19:56Speaker 2: talked to you, you said, David, Oh, my name is David.
- 19:59Speaker 2: So I just want to make sure where I'm not.
- 20:00Speaker 2: I'm just going based on what he told me last time.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Right, you're getting it right, all right? All right?
- 20:05Speaker 2: Who is your like? Uh? It just you're like if
- 20:08Speaker 2: you had to before before you decide to hang it
- 20:11Speaker 2: up man and kick back and relax. Who's that one
- 20:13Speaker 2: artist that's kind of escaped you in terms of collaborating with.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I mean I'm in contact with most of them that
- 20:19Speaker 1: I really want to work with and to definitely want
- 20:21Speaker 1: to work with Rihanna.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what I'm saying. You just got to
- 20:23Speaker 2: get we got to get her out of retirement. Man.
- 20:25Speaker 1: I think she's working on some news I sure, hope.
- 20:27Speaker 2: So yeah, we've been hearing that for eight years. Yeah.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Crazy how she did an interview and they acting like, Yo,
- 20:34Speaker 1: what's your favorite song? Or yeah she liked my song.
- 20:37Speaker 2: She was like David on Available, that's amazing. So since
- 20:40Speaker 2: then I've been like, so now, I mean you got
- 20:41Speaker 2: the end now. So if she's a fan, I mean
- 20:44Speaker 2: that's half the battle.
- 20:45Speaker 1: To you know, get in the studio. Rihanna definitely Drake,
- 20:50Speaker 1: who else? Billy ailis for sure? Bill? Yeah, I feel
- 20:56Speaker 1: like we'll do something dope.
- 20:58Speaker 2: I feel like I feel like, right now, Drake's skippable
- 21:02Speaker 2: you can. I'm just saying I feel like, right now,
- 21:06Speaker 2: Drake's Drake to me. No, I feel like he's also
- 21:08Speaker 2: always kind of been like extremely like uh like he's
- 21:11Speaker 2: pushed the genre like in the US, like a lot
- 21:16Speaker 2: of people heard a lot of afrobeats artists first because
- 21:20Speaker 2: of Drake.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Yes. Yeah, and you gotta give it to Chris Brown too,
- 21:24Speaker 1: right for sure, Chris Brown. You know what I'm saying.
- 21:26Speaker 1: We just did the stadium in South Africa.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Crazy, No, for sure, I just you know, I'm much
- 21:34Speaker 2: just like definitely Chris Brown.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Drake definitely beyondest did the album with a whole bunch
- 21:39Speaker 1: of African artists as well. So yeah, American artist always
- 21:42Speaker 1: been shown love. Definitely.
- 21:44Speaker 2: I love it man for you because obviously this is
- 21:48Speaker 2: album number five. At what point because we see a
- 21:52Speaker 2: lot of artists, man, like I just saw the Rolling
- 21:55Speaker 2: Stones are still toring and them dudes are like eighty
- 21:57Speaker 2: years old and they're still fucking ship up.
- 21:59Speaker 1: I heard it.
- 22:00Speaker 2: I heard Mick Jagger still getting it in. You do
- 22:02Speaker 2: you even think to yourself, like, man, I'm gonna do
- 22:04Speaker 2: this until because you got kids, you got a wife,
- 22:06Speaker 2: you got a lot going on in life. Is there
- 22:09Speaker 2: like a are you just gonna as long as you're inspired?
- 22:12Speaker 2: You're gonna do this as long as you love it?
- 22:14Speaker 1: I don't know, man, Like every time, I remember when
- 22:16Speaker 1: I used to be like, you know what, I'm thirty five,
- 22:18Speaker 1: But now it's like it's like, like this is not
- 22:23Speaker 1: like energy, the vem is coming in, you know what
- 22:25Speaker 1: I'm saying. And then even for the culture afro beats
- 22:27Speaker 1: music as a whole, it's like on a whole other level.
- 22:30Speaker 1: For sure. We've been doing this for thirteen years, you
- 22:32Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Sometimes it takes some people two years.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Sometimes it takes some people, but it's gonna get there.
- 22:36Speaker 1: But I don't think I foresee me ever, you know,
- 22:38Speaker 1: saying like, yeah, I think I want to hang it up.
- 22:41Speaker 1: I always enjoy music, no matter if I'm the president
- 22:43Speaker 1: of a country, I'll probably be doing shows once a
- 22:45Speaker 1: month for the people.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Like, are you trying to tell me you're gonna run
- 22:49Speaker 2: from It's just an example. Eventually you probably could Why not?
- 22:54Speaker 1: Why not? I mean it's not in my foreseable future.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Could be like thirty years down the road, Let's see
- 23:00Speaker 2: could you imagine you're perform at your own inauguration?
- 23:03Speaker 1: Crazy, that'll be dope.
- 23:03Speaker 2: That would be insane with like an.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Official presidential band, you know what I'm saying? Crazy dope.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it had to be wild. You never have to
- 23:11Speaker 2: pay for security again. You just got security dogs called
- 23:14Speaker 2: the army. Hey. I always wonder what is it like
- 23:18Speaker 2: because you you got to work with Nicki Minaj and
- 23:19Speaker 2: Nikki's to me to go her and Lauren obviously, was
- 23:24Speaker 2: that somethinghere you guys worked together in the studio or
- 23:27Speaker 2: was that somethinghere like you guys were sending emails?
- 23:30Speaker 1: Crazy thing. I never met her, You never met Nickki
- 23:32Speaker 1: crazy feak on the phone and all that. Definitely. The
- 23:36Speaker 1: first time we link was through DM. I think, what
- 23:40Speaker 1: a lot did happen? I think I just damned that.
- 23:42Speaker 1: I think I noticed that, oh she was following me
- 23:44Speaker 1: or something like that. I think I just DMed her
- 23:46Speaker 1: and she actually replied, like I woke up to the
- 23:48Speaker 1: next day. I'm like, yo, she actually hit back because
- 23:50Speaker 1: I was just I think I was like, yo, I
- 23:51Speaker 1: got a hit for us or something like that.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and she did it.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Yeah. I text her and I'm like, well, this is crazy.
- 23:58Speaker 1: This like, is this in two thousand and nineteen? I
- 24:00Speaker 1: think yeah, no, no, no, like twenty twenty, right, and
- 24:05Speaker 1: then yeah, I text her the record and like two
- 24:09Speaker 1: days later she sent me the first back, no hassle
- 24:12Speaker 1: or nothing, you know what I'm saying.
- 24:13Speaker 2: And then two days turnaround, Its not bad for her.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Crazy and man, this is COVID, bro, and this is
- 24:19Speaker 1: when everybody's stuck at home for sure. So I'm in Nigeria,
- 24:23Speaker 1: I'm like, yo, she's She's like when you have an
- 24:26Speaker 1: artist that's giving you, Like it's like Nicki Minaj is
- 24:29Speaker 1: replying you, like back to back. It's like she wants
- 24:31Speaker 1: to do this record. We gotta take that opportunity to him. Like, man,
- 24:35Speaker 1: I'm all the way in n jeried like I'm meant
- 24:37Speaker 1: to be Yeah, Like damn, we're not able to shoot
- 24:39Speaker 1: this video. I'm thinking, like, so then we get the jet.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Yeah bro, nobody's flying bro.
- 24:46Speaker 2: During COVID. So it was it was quiet. Airports were closed.
- 24:49Speaker 1: We get to fly from Legos, get to LA and
- 24:54Speaker 1: then we minut shoot the video. Everything was planned and
- 24:56Speaker 1: then you know she was about the inho, was having
- 24:59Speaker 1: her baby and stuff. She just didn't work out to
- 25:01Speaker 1: a point, it didn't work out, but you know what
- 25:03Speaker 1: I'm saying, We've always been you know, love and she
- 25:05Speaker 1: hit me again. We did a record last year, Yeah,
- 25:09Speaker 1: for her pink Print I think anniversary album. You know
- 25:13Speaker 1: she's always like tapping in the amazing. Yeah.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Yo, ni Ki, you got to close out the World
- 25:20Speaker 2: Cup a few years ago, which is like one of
- 25:22Speaker 2: the biggest honors there is. Uh was that the most Like?
- 25:25Speaker 2: Is that the most nervous you've been for performance? Just
- 25:27Speaker 2: kind of knowing that, yo?
- 25:29Speaker 1: I wasn't. I don't want to say disbelief, Like even
- 25:31Speaker 1: when my management got the told me about it. I'm
- 25:34Speaker 1: like the World Cup, like the.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Main walk the World Cup, World Cup, you know what
- 25:37Speaker 2: I'm saying.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Yo, let me a lot to you. Probably like two
- 25:43Speaker 1: weeks a week before is when it set in. I'm like, Yo,
- 25:46Speaker 1: I'm actually doing the main show.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Yeah, like not something like you know, you know how
- 25:50Speaker 2: they haven't even hell events all week.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Yeah, So I'm like, you know what I'm saying. Then,
- 25:56Speaker 1: like two weeks a week before, when we get into
- 25:58Speaker 1: emails and they're showing us the stage, I'm like creating
- 26:01Speaker 1: the production all that, Yo, we want them to come
- 26:04Speaker 1: out here. We need them to come a week before
- 26:06Speaker 1: for rehearsals, and then seeing the other artists that was
- 26:10Speaker 1: performing me, all global superstars that have attained amazing things
- 26:15Speaker 1: in their careers.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Right, you know, I mean just to be you know,
- 26:19Speaker 2: in elected for Africa just like amazing. I grew up
- 26:21Speaker 2: watching the World Cup, of course, you know what I'm saying.
- 26:23Speaker 2: So that was an amazing experience. We got to Qatar
- 26:27Speaker 2: and just even doing the rehearsals, I'm like, Yo, this
- 26:31Speaker 2: is really happening. What is your favorite place outside of
- 26:36Speaker 2: Nigeria to perform? Is there a place that you just loved? Like, man,
- 26:40Speaker 2: I know, I know they love me there. It's lit
- 26:42Speaker 2: every time.
- 26:43Speaker 1: It's lit everywhere, man. But London, London, London is crazy. Toronto, Toronto, Yeah,
- 26:49Speaker 1: Toronto's crazy. Paris Toronto such like.
- 26:52Speaker 2: A multicultural sale too. Toronto I've never been. I heard
- 26:56Speaker 2: that like Toronto will give anything. Now I heard her
- 26:59Speaker 2: give any city run for the money in terms of
- 27:02Speaker 2: like the beautiful women that are there. I heard it's
- 27:05Speaker 2: like Miami, then there's Toronto and then obviously you.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Know, I mean every raining a lot, you know it'll
- 27:10Speaker 1: be cold, but Toronto's lit. Bro, It's like New York,
- 27:12Speaker 1: you know, a little New York.
- 27:13Speaker 2: I might go out there for the Kendricks.
- 27:15Speaker 1: And it's really multi culture culture. I love that about it.
- 27:19Speaker 1: My shows a bit Jamaicans, you know what I'm saying, Asian, right, Indians,
- 27:25Speaker 1: everything like, apart from Africans.
