• 1:38
Speaker 1: mister Biggs, where are you boys?
• 1:40
Speaker 2: Hello? Jeff had some trouble with the dry axle.
• 1:44
Speaker 4: Up near Penty Rock, and Bow has stopped to help
• 1:47
  Speaker 4: him fix it.
• 1:48
Speaker 2: But they shouldn't be this long behind me.
• 1:50
Speaker 1: Well, if I see them, I'll tell them hard to
• 1:52
  Speaker 1: find you.
• 1:52
Speaker 4: You can tell Jeff, But Boas ain't even gonna hear you.
• 1:57
Speaker 2: Why what's the matter with that ball? He's right and
• 2:00
  Speaker 2: hiring an eagle.
• 2:01
Speaker 1: You know that white buffalo you've been hearing about the albino?
• 2:05
Speaker 2: It's just Indian talk, oh, I think so? Well?
• 2:08
Speaker 4: If it is, boy, I sure shot himself a mighty
• 2:11
  Speaker 4: scared buffalo white.
• 2:13
Speaker 1: As borax ut out to fetch your price. Hey, anybody
• 2:18
Speaker 1: seen Marshall Dylon over here?
• 2:21
  Speaker 2: Chester?
• 2:24
Speaker 1: You better saddle out, mister Dylon.
• 2:26
Speaker 2: What's the matter of Chester?
• 2:27
Speaker 1: He Indian troubles? Two men dead and a couple of
• 2:29
Speaker 1: wagons burned up out there? I found this a war
• 2:34
Speaker 1: raddle made out of buffalo toes a rapper. Well, they
• 2:39
Speaker 1: haven't been making any trouble pools did. I was topping
• 2:42
Speaker 1: the hill when I saw the wagons go up and fire.
• 2:44
Speaker 1: It was Indians, all right. I saw one hide off.
• 2:47
Speaker 2: That's funny. I never heard of a rapper hose attacking
• 2:49
Speaker 2: at night? How far out.
• 2:51
  Speaker 5: Check and mile?
• 2:51
Speaker 1: Maybe toward Pawnee Rock.
• 2:53
Speaker 2: Pawny Rock. Marshall my son's was coming from there, is
• 2:58
Speaker 2: a mister Tracy. Lots of wagons.
• 3:01
Speaker 4: I didn't see another wagon between here and Parnee, except
• 3:03
Speaker 4: the ones we had, but the Indians killed my boy.
• 3:06
Speaker 1: There's only one way to make sure, mister big saddle
• 3:08
Speaker 1: up and right over to my office. I'll be with
• 3:10
Speaker 1: you as soon as I can get my horse. I
• 3:24
Speaker 1: cut back through those buck wheelers over there when I
• 3:26
Speaker 1: spotted the wagons being fired.
• 3:28
Speaker 2: We must be close to it.
• 3:30
Speaker 1: Then, just over there, all right down yonder see him, Yeah,
• 3:42
Speaker 1: I see him. We rode up and dismounted the last
• 3:48
  Speaker 1: glint of hope.
• 3:49
Speaker 2: And mister Big size has died.
• 3:52
Speaker 1: His boys were there all right, and it wasn't nice
• 3:56
  Speaker 1: to see.
• 4:00
  Speaker 2: Them.
• 4:01
Speaker 1: I'll get them, please, I'll murder every rich.
• 4:06
Speaker 2: We gotta bring your sons. And mister Biggs, you know
• 4:09
Speaker 2: what the morning is gonna be like. You don't want
• 4:12
Speaker 2: to leave them out here? Now, come over, hey, look
• 4:17
Speaker 2: down out of the street. Yeah, four of 'em. They're
• 4:24
Speaker 2: not saddle horses, mister Biggs.
• 4:30
Speaker 1: Mister Biggs, you recognize those horses down there? Yeah, I know,
• 4:40
Speaker 1: teams belonged to boys. M Jet Indians must kind of
• 4:45
Speaker 1: roof from the wagons before they fired. It does not
• 4:48
Speaker 1: seem curious to Chester in what ways you doing? Why
• 4:51
Speaker 1: didn't they take a horses with him. Yeah, what do
• 4:57
Speaker 1: you think in Marshall, No burned hides and those.
• 5:00
Speaker 2: So they stole them, Yeah, they stole them.
• 5:03
Speaker 1: But Boas and Jeff both have their rifles there beside him,
• 5:06
Speaker 1: and the horses are left behind too. Horses and guns
• 5:09
Speaker 1: the first things Indians would go for. What are you
• 5:14
Speaker 1: looking for, mister Dillon? Those buffalo hides weren't carried off
• 5:18
Speaker 1: without wagons. Here marks the two other wagons here, and
• 5:25
  Speaker 1: they're fresh.
• 5:26
Speaker 2: I didn't see any other wagons, only these. Well, they'd
• 5:29
Speaker 2: finish and gone before you got here. Chester.
• 5:31
Speaker 1: Well, yeah, but I had caught up to any wagons on.
• 5:33
Speaker 2: The trail to Dodge you go by regular trail.
• 5:36
Speaker 1: Well, no, I I figured the Indian I saw it
• 5:41
Speaker 1: wasn't alone. I didn't want to get bushwhacked. Further on,
• 5:43
Speaker 1: you didn't see any Indian Chester, But mister Dillon, just
• 5:46
  Speaker 1: as plain, no.
• 5:47
Speaker 2: Indian would leave guns and horses. This job was done
• 5:51
  Speaker 2: by white men.
• 5:52
Speaker 1: It didn't take anything that could be recognized or identified.
• 5:56
Speaker 4: You mean somebody's in dodged by now with the hides.
• 6:01
Speaker 1: My boys worked and sweated, did you, I'm afraid so,
• 6:05
  Speaker 1: mister Biggs.
• 6:07
Speaker 5: There'd be more than three hundred buffalo hunters there by morning,
• 6:12
  Speaker 5: could be any.
• 6:13
Speaker 2: We'll find our right one.
• 6:15
Speaker 1: Oh how the albino whoever killed your sons will have
• 6:20
Speaker 1: that white buffalo hide.
• 6:28
Speaker 2: It was almost sun up when.
• 6:29
Speaker 1: We got back to town, and more wagons had jammed
• 6:33
Speaker 1: the main street, lining up for the unloading barns. I
• 6:38
Speaker 1: rode down the line, looking them over one but one.
• 6:46
Speaker 1: Some of the men had take their money, drink it up,
• 6:48
  Speaker 1: and drift away.
• 6:50
Speaker 2: A few would stay long enough to be buried on
• 6:54
  Speaker 2: foot hill.
• 6:57
Speaker 1: And then suddenly a wagon driver up ahead pulled out
• 6:59
Speaker 1: along on that team.
• 7:05
Speaker 4: Nothing my head off and put.
• 7:08
Speaker 1: Away bit miss under that stranger, get your hand away
• 7:14
Speaker 1: from my gun. Well no nose any law around you
• 7:21
Speaker 1: there is, so don't try making your rown.
• 7:23
Speaker 2: You got no right driving my team.
• 7:24
Speaker 1: I got plenty ride when its morning in front of me, Marshall,
• 7:27
Speaker 1: that's a lie, marshal Cum. You both want to cool
• 7:30
Speaker 1: your heads out in jail. Now, what's your name? Tennessee
• 7:36
Speaker 1: is good enough a lot of people from Tennessee coming
• 7:39
Speaker 1: into the territory. Most of them are pretty peaceful. It
• 7:42
Speaker 1: sounds like you're saying I'm not. You moved pretty fast
• 7:45
Speaker 1: for that gun man can lose his temper. You lost
• 7:48
Speaker 1: yours four times, according to the notches you've carved into
• 7:51
  Speaker 1: that gun.
• 7:52
Speaker 2: But but don't try for number five. Not here? Now
• 7:56
Speaker 2: about you? What do you call Charlie Kell? Charlie Kell r?
• 8:04
Speaker 1: They ever call you Chuck? No heard of a Chuck
• 8:08
Speaker 1: Kell couple of years back.
• 8:09
Speaker 2: Come from Kentucky. Not me.
• 8:12
Speaker 1: Man I heard about was a gunfighter, so he never
• 8:15
  Speaker 1: wore gloves.
• 8:17
Speaker 2: See you don't either. It's pretty rough on the hands.
• 8:24
Speaker 5: Thanks, Marshall. I'll make sure to take better care of them.
• 8:27
  Speaker 2: Yeah, do that.
• 8:29
Speaker 5: I'll be around a while, Marshall. Maybe we can have another.
• 8:32
Speaker 2: Talk anytime they'd need watching.
• 8:41
Speaker 1: But what I wanted now was a white buffalo hiding
• 8:45
Speaker 1: Searching the wagons wouldn't do. There wasn't time, and the
• 8:48
Speaker 1: search had let the killers know that something in the
• 8:50
Speaker 1: hides they'd stolen could be identified. The time to find
• 8:54
Speaker 1: out it be when the buyers checked them. I got
• 8:57
Speaker 1: bigs and Chester to cover two of the unloading bar arms,
• 9:00
Speaker 1: and I covered the third woman. And finally daylight came
• 9:05
Speaker 1: and the haggling started.
• 9:08
Speaker 2: And you want to sell on his head and don't
• 9:10
Speaker 2: learn how to handle his given knife. Get better.
• 9:13
Speaker 1: They're as good as any and pull. Give you four
• 9:18
Speaker 1: dollars a hide the bunch you gave that last eight?
• 9:22
Speaker 2: He looked tougher than you. Six. I'll take six. Four.
• 9:28
Speaker 2: They canna leave it?
• 9:30
Speaker 3: Do you think you can rob me?
• 9:31
  Speaker 2: Mister?
• 9:31
Speaker 1: What's your mouth for? An easy son?
• 9:38
Speaker 2: I mean have my gun before you won't be here.
• 9:43
Speaker 2: That's better. Give me that, give it back. You can
• 9:46
Speaker 2: pick it up at my office whenever you're ready to leave.
• 9:48
Speaker 1: Tom Yeah, you look like a city boy to me.
• 9:52
Speaker 2: Where are you from? Saint Louis?
• 9:54
Speaker 1: Honey? Your business when something's got your beat, so there's
• 9:58
Speaker 1: no shame to admit that and going home? Sometimes that
• 10:02
Speaker 1: takes a real man.
• 10:04
Speaker 3: Oh tell me what to do.
• 10:06
Speaker 4: Why don't you watch your own job?
• 10:07
Speaker 2: Why don't you leave me alone? Marshall?
• 10:08
  Speaker 1: I ain't got a white buffalo hide?
• 10:13
Speaker 2: What'd you say? Boy?
• 10:16
  Speaker 5: You heard me?
• 10:18
Speaker 2: What do you know about a white buffalo? Hide?
• 10:20
  Speaker 4: What?
• 10:21
Speaker 5: Everybody else knows that you're looking for one?
• 10:23
  Speaker 2: Everybody in town.
• 10:24
Speaker 1: Knows it because the old man whose sons were bushwacks,
• 10:27
Speaker 1: all liquored up over.
• 10:28
Speaker 3: The other barn, shooting off his mouth.
• 10:34
Speaker 1: Don't boy, mad Marshall mister Biggs wasn't at the barn
• 10:44
Speaker 1: where I'd left him. I got through an alle at
• 10:46
Speaker 1: the front street and headed for the saloons.
• 10:49
Speaker 2: I never got to him, miser Mi diner. What's the
• 10:54
Speaker 2: matter of Chester home man big Where is he? I'm
• 10:57
Speaker 2: looking for him? Oh?
• 10:59
Speaker 1: He he drover the barn. I was watching, drunk going
• 11:03
Speaker 1: through the wagon. I know about that house, kind of
• 11:06
Speaker 1: get him to go back to his own barn. But
• 11:08
Speaker 1: all of a sudden he took off or where. I
• 11:11
Speaker 1: don't know that there was one wagon he was watching,
• 11:13
Speaker 1: in particular, the driver walked away from him with the package.
• 11:16
Speaker 2: Some kind that white hide.
• 11:17
Speaker 1: It could have been, I don't know, but Big Shot
• 11:19
Speaker 1: thought so he lit out after the fellow with blood
• 11:22
Speaker 1: in his heart. Which way down there where the boy
• 11:24
Speaker 1: has been hitching the him to wagon, Let's go the
• 11:26
Speaker 1: whole boy's drunk to make trouble. He's able to kill
• 11:29
Speaker 1: somebody or get killed. Who lady's doing? Yeah, it came
• 11:40
Speaker 1: from there, behind that row of wagons. You stay here, Chester,
• 11:43
Speaker 1: Be careful, mister Dylon. When I rounded the corner of wagon,
• 11:49
Speaker 1: mister Biggs was sprawled across a wagon, tongue, his eyes
• 11:53
Speaker 1: dead and open, staring at the ground, and standing over
• 11:59
Speaker 1: him was Tennessee, a smile on his face and his
• 12:04
Speaker 1: gun extended to me. But first looks like I'm in
• 12:07
Speaker 1: a mighty trouble, Marshall. He's dead, Tennessee, that's more than
• 12:10
  Speaker 1: a mite.
• 12:11
Speaker 2: You take my gun for a while, you mean, until
• 12:14
  Speaker 2: after you hang.
• 12:16
Speaker 1: Wasn't figuring to be that serious, Not when a drunk
• 12:19
Speaker 1: follows me out here and throw down on me. If
• 12:21
Speaker 1: you're figuring on self defense, forget to look at his gun.
• 12:23
Speaker 2: It isn't even cought. Well, it's out of his host. Marshall.
• 12:25
Speaker 2: That's enough. Lord, don't say you have to wait till
• 12:27
Speaker 2: he kills me. You have to make a jury believe that.
• 12:30
Speaker 5: Well, I shouldn't have much trouble doing that.
• 12:32
Speaker 1: Marcia, What are you doing here, mister Kelh, I just
• 12:39
Speaker 1: happened to follow Tennessee anthy, Why well you broke up
• 12:44
Speaker 1: our little argument in town. Thought i'd get him alone
• 12:47
Speaker 1: here see if maybe he was still nursing a grudge
• 12:50
Speaker 1: he wanted to settle, But the old man beat me
• 12:53
Speaker 1: to it. Now, Tennessee here ain't exactly a friend of mine,
• 13:00
Speaker 1: But I hate to see any man hang when he
• 13:03
  Speaker 1: ain't killed me?
• 13:04
Speaker 2: Is that your personal verdict? Mister killed? That's right, Marshall.
• 13:09
Speaker 5: The old man threw down on him and Tennessee had
• 13:12
Speaker 5: to kill him in self defense.
• 13:15
Speaker 1: Chester, Yes, or mister Dillon. Which one of them had
• 13:20
Speaker 1: the package? This is the fellow, the old man who left.
• 13:24
Speaker 1: All right, Tennessee, where is it?
• 13:26
Speaker 2: I don't know anything about a package. Look in the wagon, Chester,
• 13:38
Speaker 2: see anything nothing here?
• 13:41
Speaker 1: I reckon you can give my gun back to me now,
• 13:46
Speaker 1: all right, Tennessee here, thanks, But if you decide to
• 13:51
Speaker 1: use it again while you're in Dodge or any place
• 13:54
Speaker 1: else in Kansas, I hope I'm there when you do.
• 13:59
  Speaker 1: Why I don't, don't you, Fred Marshall, I'm sure you
• 14:03
  Speaker 1: will be.
• 14:18
Speaker 3: We will return for the second act of gun Smoke
• 14:21
Speaker 3: in just a moment. But first action excitement thrills. That's Gangbusters.
• 14:27
Speaker 3: Gangbusters helps to fight crime by fearlessly naming the criminals.
• 14:32
Speaker 3: Listen for it later this evening on CBS Radio. Now
• 14:37
Speaker 3: the second act of gun Smoke.
• 14:54
Speaker 1: Just before sundown, we buried old Man Biggs and his
• 14:57
Speaker 1: two sons on boothill. By the time the service was
• 15:04
Speaker 1: over and I rode down, darkness had fallen and everything
• 15:09
Speaker 1: was going full blast.
• 15:11
Speaker 2: The town was roaring.
• 15:15
Speaker 1: Seemed like a good man, Folbigs.
• 15:17
Speaker 2: He was Chester, so were his boys.
• 15:21
Speaker 1: But there are too many men like Tennessee and Kel
• 15:23
Speaker 1: coming in, mister Dillon.
• 15:24
Speaker 2: They won't last Chester.
• 15:26
  Speaker 1: They'll keep coming, but they won't last. They'll take a
• 15:29
Speaker 1: gun and go against the man, but they won't sweat,
• 15:33
Speaker 1: they won't take root and build. We're still gonna look
• 15:37
  Speaker 1: for that hide.
• 15:39
Speaker 2: Yeah, just what do you want me to.
• 15:41
Speaker 1: Do, mister Dillon. Tennessee and Kel will be in town,
• 15:45
Speaker 1: but their wagons are back there with the other empties.
• 15:48
Speaker 2: Right back and look them over.
• 15:51
Speaker 1: Or they might have had somebody carry that package off
• 15:54
Speaker 1: for him. It might be, but they don't seem like partners,
• 15:57
Speaker 1: mister Dillon's from what I heard, you stop him from gunfight.
• 16:00
Speaker 1: Took more than one man to kill the Bigs boys,
• 16:02
Speaker 1: and more than one man and more in one wagon
• 16:04
Speaker 1: to carct the hides. And were you mean they staged
• 16:08
Speaker 1: that trouble just for you, just for me, after they heard.
• 16:13
Speaker 2: I was looking for that white hide?
• 16:15
Speaker 1: Well why do you figure that, mister Dilton. When gunfighters
• 16:19
Speaker 1: start for their guns, nothing stops.
• 16:21
Speaker 2: In Chester. They both started, but they both stopped. I reckon,
• 16:32
Speaker 2: you better take a look through those wagons.
• 16:34
Speaker 1: As mister Dillon, well, I meet you. I'll be checking
• 16:37
Speaker 1: the saloons. One by one I made the stops a
• 16:48
Speaker 1: long branch the Alafraganza, the Texas Trail, and one.
• 16:56
Speaker 2: By one they got quieters.
• 16:58
Speaker 1: I went in cause though each place is holding its breath,
• 17:03
Speaker 1: waiting for something to happen. The last place was a
• 17:09
Speaker 1: Mexican hangout, A long dark walk low.
• 17:24
Speaker 2: Marshall can't see me, can you, Marshall?
• 17:29
Speaker 1: No, no, I can't see your son. Too bad, cause
• 17:37
Speaker 1: I got another gun. They sell him around here, and
• 17:41
Speaker 1: I ain't going back to Saint Louis. You'll fire wants son,
• 17:46
Speaker 1: and if you don't kill me with that, then I'll
• 17:48
  Speaker 1: kill you.
• 17:50
Speaker 2: I'll gamble on that, Marshall.
• 17:53
Speaker 1: Marshall, he l from the shadows into the street, staggered
• 18:04
Speaker 1: and fell, and then he rolled over on his back,
• 18:08
Speaker 1: and his eyes struggled for a minute like they were
• 18:10
Speaker 1: trying to remember something, and then he went blank.
• 18:19
Speaker 2: And he is right about one thing.
• 18:21
Speaker 1: He wasn't going back to Saint Louis.
• 18:26
Speaker 5: Well, what do you know? The Marshall's real handy with
• 18:30
  Speaker 5: a gun.
• 18:30
Speaker 2: Stay out of this Kelf.
• 18:32
Speaker 1: But I may have something to talk over with you later.
• 18:35
Speaker 1: Mean what you don't know, then you've got nothing to
• 18:37
  Speaker 1: worry about.
• 18:39
Speaker 5: I've been hearing a lot about how fast you are
• 18:41
Speaker 5: with a gun, Dylan, anything to it.
• 18:44
  Speaker 2: I'm still alive.
• 18:46
Speaker 5: Yeah, this year hobby shooting kid.
• 18:52
Speaker 2: He was old enough to try to kill me. I
• 18:55
Speaker 2: don't like it, Marchhall. That's too bad, mister Kel.
• 19:01
Speaker 1: The chuck Kell I heard about would have loved it.
• 19:04
Speaker 1: They said he'd kill two kids under sixteen, one of
• 19:07
Speaker 1: 'em his own brother.
• 19:08
Speaker 5: Uh, you didn't hear the whole story, Marshall. The Kel
• 19:13
Speaker 5: you heard about killed the Marshall too, giving him out of.
• 19:17
