- 1:48This is a series five, which means we're
- 1:50in our fifth year.
- 1:52We concluded over four years, and it'll be
- 1:54January, February, March, April, yeah, four years and
- 1:58four months.
- 1:59Pretty cool, right?
- 2:00Series five, show 19, episode one, how people
- 2:04rebuild direction when everything gets disrupted.
- 2:09This episode of Inspirations for Your Life with
- 2:10myself, John C.
- 2:12Morley.
- 2:12I'm a serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video
- 2:15producer, podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student,
- 2:20passionate lifelong learner.
- 2:22And yes, ladies, gentlemen, a published author now
- 2:24that I'm very grateful for.
- 2:25And what I'm going to do here, guys,
- 2:27is I'm actually going to explore with you
- 2:31what happens when life forces a full reset
- 2:36and people must rebuild direction from instability.
- 2:39And I think that's a hard thing for
- 2:40a lot of people.
- 2:41So this week is about one core reality.
- 2:44When systems break, routines, well, they kind of
- 2:48collapse.
- 2:49And stability, it just becomes non-existent or
- 2:52disappears.
- 2:53People are not just dealing with disruption.
- 2:55They are dealing with identity pressure.
- 2:58And I think that's a hard thing for
- 3:01a lot of people to understand that.
- 3:04Because people want to be right all the
- 3:07time.
- 3:07I get it.
- 3:08But they may not always be right.
- 3:10And I think that's a problem for, again,
- 3:12a lot of people.
- 3:14They think one way, but then they wonder
- 3:17why something else is that.
- 3:21And I will tell you guys, it's very
- 3:24important to understand this, all right?
- 3:25So they're dealing with an identity pressure.
- 3:27The pressure could be coming from outside.
- 3:30It could be coming from themselves.
- 3:31But ultimately, they're enforcing the pressure from their
- 3:34head.
- 3:34Because, ladies and gentlemen, when structure disappears, identity
- 3:38is, well, exposed.
- 3:42And when your identity is exposed, direction must
- 3:45be rebuilt from the ground up.
- 3:47There is no set of shortcuts here.
- 3:49If you try to do shortcuts, well, you're
- 3:51going to be very unhappy because you're going
- 3:54to have to keep doing things over and
- 3:56over and over again.
- 3:57I'm sure you've had that thing, right?
- 3:58Where you learn something and you're like, oh,
- 4:00you know what?
- 4:00I don't know if I know that.
- 4:01So I'm going to come back, right?
- 4:03But you waste more time doing that, don't
- 4:05you, right?
- 4:07So most people, ladies and gentlemen, think breakdowns
- 4:10are failures.
- 4:11You know what, guys?
- 4:12It's just data.
- 4:14And that data helps us become a better
- 4:16version of ourselves.
- 4:16So the breakdowns are actually visibility events.
- 4:20They show us what no longer works.
- 4:23Again, it's data.
- 4:24A lot of times, people have a whole
- 4:28catastrophe of this.
- 4:30But really, it's data that we can use
- 4:32to reshape our life over.
- 4:34I think that's a very important thing for
- 4:38a lot of people to understand, that data
- 4:43is something that we can learn from every
- 4:46single day.
- 4:47But again, it's not the easiest thing to
- 4:49learn from, right?
- 4:50Because it kind of takes us down a
- 4:52few pegs.
- 4:52And that can be a real problem for
- 4:58some people.
- 4:59So I want to say that to you
- 5:01guys.
- 5:01It can be a problem.
- 5:02And you definitely can make changes.
- 5:05But again, it's not going to be comfortable.
- 5:08That's the thing I want to tell you.
- 5:09It's uncomfortable.
- 5:10So we have to practice getting comfortable being
- 5:12uncomfortable.
- 5:13So they show you what no longer works
- 5:15or what you need to cut back or
- 5:17change or pivot away from.
- 5:19And they reveal what was unstable.
- 5:23Right?
- 5:24If you're doing something, and it's not stable,
- 5:26you want to stop it so you can
- 5:27be stable again.
- 5:28Perfect example I can give you is I
- 5:29had a chair a while back.
- 5:31But I actually had the chair for a
- 5:33while.
- 5:33But the chair kept falling apart.
- 5:36And literally, about a week or two ago,
- 5:38I was almost on the floor.
- 5:39I grabbed onto the desk.
- 5:41And I kept trying to fix the legs
- 5:42for a long time.
- 5:43Had a few repair people take a look
- 5:44at it.
- 5:45And they kept trying and trying.
- 5:48And it kept falling apart like three to
- 5:50six months later.
- 5:51Now, they make the chairs terrible.
- 5:52It was a very nice, fancy chair, which
- 5:54I'm sitting on now.
- 5:55I'm very grateful that the repair people were
- 5:57able to fix it.
- 5:59And they actually had to make the holes.
- 6:02Basically, they had to make the hole bigger.
- 6:03And then they put this kind of device
- 6:05in there so that it could bite down
- 6:07better.
- 6:08But my point is that when something's unstable,
- 6:10you don't sit on it.
- 6:11You don't use it.
- 6:12Right?
- 6:12I mean, that was obvious.
- 6:13I used another chair.
- 6:15And they force an awareness where comfort used
- 6:18to exist.
- 6:18So yeah, the comfort of being able to
- 6:20sit on the chair.
- 6:21I'm not taking this for granted, ladies and
- 6:23gentlemen.
- 6:23But I don't want to be on the
- 6:24floor.
- 6:25Right?
- 6:25I don't want to be on the floor.
- 6:26So I think that's an important thing.
- 6:28So this, ladies and gentlemen, is where the
- 6:30real transformation begins.
- 6:33It's not instability.
- 6:35OK?
- 6:36It's not in that fix.
- 6:37It's in the awareness.
- 6:39I was aware that the chair was basically
- 6:42falling apart.
- 6:44And my awareness said, hey, John, don't sit
- 6:46on that chair anymore.
- 6:47You're going to be on the floor.
- 6:49I mean, I'm sitting on my chair now.
- 6:51And I can tell you, the legs do
- 6:53not feel weak.
- 6:53I don't wallow back and forth.
- 6:54But literally, I was sitting on the chair.
- 6:55And the chair was like trying to hold
- 7:02me up.
- 7:03And I could feel what was going on.
- 7:05I could actually feel.
- 7:07And I think that's an important thing.
- 7:10But I was aware of what was going
- 7:12on.
- 7:13And I responded to it.
- 7:15It took me a while to find somebody
- 7:16that could fix the chair.
- 7:18But we had a disruption.
- 7:20And so when systems stop responding, the first
- 7:24reaction is, oh my gosh, confusion.
- 7:26What do I do?
- 7:27What am I supposed to do?
- 7:29Right?
- 7:29And I think that becomes a big problem.
- 7:32So people try to repeat old methods, expecting
- 7:35old results.
- 7:36We said this before with Mr. Einstein, right?
- 7:39He said, doing the same thing over and
- 7:41over again and expecting different results is what,
- 7:44ladies and gentlemen, I've said this many times
- 7:45before.
- 7:45It is insanity.
- 7:48Yes, it's insanity.
- 7:49Doing the same thing over and over again
- 7:50and expecting different results without changing any of
- 7:53the variables or any of the ways you
- 7:55do it.
- 7:55But the environment has already changed.
- 7:57So again, sitting on the chair again, I
- 8:01would have had a problem.
- 8:03So why did I keep getting on the
- 8:04chair?
- 8:05Well, I kept trying to fix it.
- 8:06But then when it got to the point
- 8:07where it was of no return and basically
- 8:09the leg fell off the chair, I said,
- 8:11OK, that's it.
- 8:11We're done.
- 8:12I'm not trying to fix this anymore.
- 8:13We're definitely getting somebody else.
- 8:15And we're going to keep calling until we
- 8:16get someone.
- 8:17I guess there wasn't enough discomfort that I
- 8:20needed to do that because the chair was
- 8:21still working.
- 8:22Now it became, well, non-working.
- 8:25So that was a real problem.
- 8:26And what used to work no longer produces
- 8:29outcomes anymore.
- 8:30So I was tightening the screw on the
- 8:32bolt.
- 8:33It was like a hex.
- 8:34And I kept tightening it.
- 8:35But then after a few months, it got
- 8:37loose.
- 8:37And literally, I'm telling you, I'm sitting on
- 8:39the chair.
- 8:39I'll know within a few weeks or a
- 8:41few months the chair was getting loose.
- 8:43I'm not trying to wiggle on the chair.
- 8:44But I was literally sitting on the chair.
- 8:45And I could feel the chair changing how
- 8:49it was holding me up.
- 8:50And it was a scary feeling.
- 8:52And then to be on the floor, like
- 8:53I said, I was holding the desk.
- 8:54But I kind of went down slowly to
- 8:55the floor.
- 8:56And I was like, OK.
- 8:58And I kind of felt that I knew
- 8:59it.
- 8:59And I was like, OK, enough's enough.
- 9:00We have to fix this.
- 9:01So that is the first signal of transition,
- 9:03right?
- 9:05Routine collapses, like my chair collapsed, literally.
- 9:09And predictability disappears.
- 9:14There's no way to predict other than the
- 9:17fact that I'm going to definitely be on
- 9:19the floor, right?
- 9:22Yeah.
- 9:26So that's important to understand.
- 9:28And so control feels reduced.
- 9:33Our focus breaks because of the disruption that
- 9:36happened.
- 9:37The chair broke.
- 9:38I was literally getting ready to go on
- 9:40the air.
- 9:40And I said, OK, get rid of that
- 9:42chair.
- 9:42Clean it up.
- 9:43Let me pull another chair in from the
- 9:44dining room.
- 9:45And let me sit on that chair and
- 9:46move on.
- 9:47So energy scatters.
- 9:49And decisions slow down.
- 9:51And at this stage, most people will feel,
- 9:54you got it, ladies and gentlemen.
- 9:55They'll feel stuck.
- 9:58But the truth of the matter is they
- 10:00are not stuck, right?
- 10:02When I broke my Tim and Fib, was
- 10:04I stuck?
- 10:05Well, in my head, I was stuck because
- 10:07I didn't know how to piece this all
- 10:09together.
- 10:10I didn't know how long it was going
- 10:11to take.
- 10:11I didn't know what the steps were to
- 10:15basically go back and be able to walk
- 10:18again.
- 10:18Now, I had broken my legs before when
- 10:21I was a lot younger.
- 10:23And the process of learning to walk was
- 10:25harder back then.
- 10:27This was a little different because it was
- 10:29only the one leg.
- 10:29But there was still atrophy in the leg,
- 10:31not to bore you on that.
- 10:32But that whole feeling of just, you know,
- 10:35I can't use that foot for a while.
- 10:38And then not being able to put on
- 10:39clothes the regular way.
- 10:41I had things like breakaway pants like you
- 10:42use on a basketball court.
- 10:44And these are unstructured, right?
- 10:46An unstructured system always feels like failure because
- 10:50we get stuck in our own mind before
- 10:53it feels like an opportunity.
- 10:55We don't think we're going the right direction.
- 10:57That's basically the truth.
- 10:58We don't feel we're going the right way.
- 11:00We feel we're going the wrong pathway.
- 11:02And then we're not making any changes.
- 11:04And I think a lot of people out
- 11:05there want to say, hey, John, you know,
- 11:07I've been through this.
- 11:08I tried to get around it.
- 11:09But for whatever reason, I didn't get around
- 11:11it.
- 11:12And it's not that you can't get around
- 11:13it.
- 11:14It's the fact that you are basically going
- 11:18into panic mode.
- 11:20That's probably the best thing to tell you.
- 11:21You're going into panic mode.
- 11:22And when you go into panic mode, it's
- 11:24like, oh my gosh, what do I do?
- 11:25Like save me, right?
- 11:26Like, you know, like you're drowning if you
- 11:27know how to swim.
- 11:28And so I think these are important things
- 11:31for a lot of people, you know, to
- 11:33understand.
- 11:34But they're important, okay?
- 11:36They are definitely, definitely important for us to
- 11:40become aware of.
- 11:42So because our identity is built from repetition,
- 11:47that should be no surprise to all of
- 11:49you, okay?
- 11:51When repetition no longer works, identity no longer
- 11:55feels stable.
- 11:58Thus, we have an identity crisis.
- 12:03And that in itself creates an internal friction.
- 12:06Like, well, who am I?
- 12:07What do I do?
- 12:08Where do I belong?
- 12:09What's going on, right?
- 12:10That creates an internal friction.
- 12:12And with that friction, pressure starts to increase.
- 12:16And the awareness starts to, let's say, populate.
- 12:21Confusion forces an observation.
- 12:23Like, hey, what the heck is going on
- 12:25to me?
- 12:25Like, what are we doing?
- 12:28An observation creates the first moment of clarity.
- 12:31Like, something's not right.
- 12:34Like, you know, we're not in Kansas anymore.
- 12:37You remember the movie, right?
- 12:42Of the Wizard of Oz.
- 12:44Hey, Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas
- 12:46anymore.
- 12:46Or with the Goldilocks and three bears.
- 12:51I just broke the chair.
- 12:53Oh my goodness, right?
- 12:55So these are all very different things.
- 12:57Now, not full clarity happens at that split
- 13:00moment, guys.
- 13:01Not full clarity.
- 13:02Just enough to peak an awareness to begin.
- 13:08And so people all begin at different levels,
- 13:13right?
- 13:13But it's that awareness that helps us compound
- 13:16that builds through our sleeve, through our other
- 13:20tasks that we do.
- 13:21My awareness of breaking my leg and how
- 13:24to basically heal.
- 13:29Because you see, you don't just sit in
- 13:31bed, right?
- 13:31You have to get around yourself to live.
- 13:33So the awareness was, how do I live
- 13:36with a broken leg?
- 13:37I can't rely on everybody for everything, right?
- 13:40So I was determined to learn, how can
- 13:43I live with a broken leg until my
- 13:45leg gets healed?
- 13:46I knew my leg would heal, but it
- 13:50was just a very funny feeling, you know?
- 13:53And then like I've told you guys before,
- 13:56couldn't take a shower because you couldn't get
- 13:58the cast wet.
- 13:58So we were taking sponge baths.
- 14:00But when I got up in the morning,
- 14:01it was very challenging because it wasn't the
- 14:07quick take a shower and get going.
- 14:09It was, well, let me go have breakfast
- 14:13and then let me figure out how I'm
- 14:14gonna do a sponge bath and get ready.
- 14:18And it was a project because I still
- 14:20had full clothes, right?
- 14:22And the problem with this was that, how
- 14:25do you maneuver, I should say, with the
- 14:28leg and stuff?
- 14:28And so I used breakaway pants.
- 14:30And that was a big godsend.
- 14:33At least showing this adaptability, this is where
- 14:36it starts.
- 14:38It's not through big moves.
- 14:40It's from that awareness, but through the small
- 14:42corrections and shifts or pivots that we make
- 14:45in our life every single day.
- 14:48And so when something happens, it's not the
- 14:51norm that say, okay, this isn't working right.
- 14:55What should I do?
- 14:56What could I do?
- 14:58What abilities do I have right now?
- 15:01And that was what's going through my head.
- 15:02So I can get up.
- 15:04I can still use the other foot.
- 15:05I can hop, right?
- 15:08What do I do?
- 15:09So tiny adjustments in thinking.
- 15:13Another big project was when I got up,
- 15:16if I wanted to go outside, I went
- 15:19to the wheelchair.
- 15:21So it was a process of me kind
- 15:23of, and I didn't use crutches even though
- 15:25I had them.
- 15:26I didn't use crutches.
- 15:27I kind of hopped over to the wheelchair,
- 15:28got in the wheelchair, got all comfortable, got
- 15:30all set up, rolled out of my door,
- 15:35rolled outside and lived life.
- 15:39It was not easy.
- 15:42The tiny adjustments in the thinking, tiny adjustments
- 15:45in my behavior, my beliefs, but each day
- 15:48it got a little easier, right?
- 15:52You know, being able to get a sponge
- 15:55bath and do all this myself and be
- 15:57able to get breakfast and do things.
- 15:58That was such a feeling of accomplishment for
- 16:02me.
- 16:03You might say, gee, why?
- 16:04Well, if you lost that ability, just pretend
- 16:08for, I don't know, let's say for a
- 16:14month you couldn't walk.
- 16:18How would that affect your life?
- 16:22You probably wouldn't be able to drive.
- 16:25You probably wouldn't be able to use stairs.
- 16:29You'd have difficulty getting around, right?
- 16:32And maybe you didn't break your leg.
- 16:35Maybe you just had some type of issue
- 16:38that caused your leg to not allow you
- 16:40to walk, some other condition, worse condition.
- 16:43And although you were able to change clothes
- 16:45and stuff like that, things were still hard
- 16:47because the leg maybe didn't have feeling in
- 16:49it, right?
- 16:50So survival thinking activates first.
- 16:53That's how we're designed, survival first.
- 16:56But survival thinking is not the destination.
- 16:58A lot of people use survival thinking, but
- 17:01survival thinking is meant to keep us safe.
- 17:03It's not meant to make us successful.
- 17:06It is only the entry point because ladies
- 17:09and gentlemen, survival creates attention.
- 17:12It creates a very centered phase of awareness
- 17:16to what's going on.
- 17:17And the attention creates a moment for us
- 17:23to not only be aware, but to digest
- 17:26and to process like, what the heck is
- 17:30going on, right?
- 17:31And awareness creates a direction.
- 17:35Awareness creates a direction.
- 17:37And that noise reduces internally.
- 17:41So patterns begin to reappear.
- 17:44And suddenly it's like, okay, now what do
- 17:46I do, right?
- 17:48And I'll be honest, the very first day,
- 17:51it was like, how am I ever going
- 17:52to do anything?
- 17:52And then I said, okay, I've got to
- 17:53be positive about this.
- 17:55Because this entire time, I was lucky to
- 17:57have my cleaning lady come every single day
- 17:59to keep checking on me.
- 18:01But I basically got out of bed, got
- 18:04dressed the best I could.
- 18:06I mean, had breakfast, had a sponge bath,
- 18:08got dressed.
- 18:11Did work remotely with my clients through my
- 18:13laptop.
- 18:14And even went outside.
- 18:17And even went to what they call a
- 18:20certain kind of meeting for basically people in
- 18:25our association whereby they might've had an infraction.
- 18:29So we call it like a violation.
- 18:32And so there was a board that I
- 18:34served on as vice president.
- 18:35And I still did this while I was,
- 18:39let's say incapacitated.
- 18:41So as you know, and then going to
- 18:42the doctors, that was another challenge.
- 18:44Another God said, luckily I had this ride
- 18:47service that was able to pick me up.
- 18:48But still you had to schedule the ride.
- 18:51You had to go outside, you had to
- 18:53wait for the ride.
- 18:54They had to bring you up.
- 18:56They had to strap you in with the
- 18:57chair.
- 18:59And it was just, everything took longer.
- 19:02So you start seeing what failed.
- 19:05That's the first part.
- 19:06You start noticing what broke, right?
- 19:09In my case, it was my leg.
- 19:10And you start understanding why.
- 19:12Well, I knew the why.
- 19:13And this is where people either rebuild consciously
- 19:17or they repeat an unconsciously good or bad
- 19:20pattern.
- 19:21If they repeat a good pattern, well, they're
- 19:23on their way to recovery.
- 19:25And remember, it's not just recovery of your
- 19:27leg.
- 19:28It's recovery of your mind, body, and spirit.
- 19:30Because your spirit is just as important as
- 19:33your body recovering.
- 19:35Repetition of old systems lead to continued failure.
- 19:38Failure.
- 19:39So a repetition of the old systems.
- 19:42And I'm talking about systems, meaning things you
- 19:44do, algorithms you do, right?
- 19:46If you do those same thing over and
- 19:47over again and you break down, well, you're
- 19:52gonna lose your will.
- 19:54You're going to get very fed up with
- 19:57yourself.
- 19:58So it's important that you keep your mind
- 20:01in alignment.
- 20:02You keep your mind in a place where
- 20:05you can do things.
- 20:07But awareness of failure leads to either resignation
- 20:11or a redesign.
- 20:13And so when you discover you can't do
- 20:15something, like I remember getting to the kitchen
- 20:18and I could not get to the cabinets
- 20:21to get things on the top shelf.
- 20:22So I got a little device.
- 20:25It was like a pole.
- 20:27I had a hand, I was like a
- 20:28gripper.
- 20:29And so that little, I don't know, $20,
- 20:32$30 device made me, let's say, independent.
- 20:38Because the big thing was I didn't want
- 20:39to be a hassle to anybody.
- 20:41There were sometimes I had neighbors that would
- 20:43cook me breakfast or things like that.
- 20:45But I was okay.
- 20:46I could still cook.
- 20:47I could still do things.
- 20:48I mean, I could be on the one
- 20:49leg for a while.
- 20:50So even if I had to stand and
- 20:51cook scrambled eggs or something, I could do
- 20:53that.
- 20:54I could lean on the cabinets or something.
- 20:56I could even get a, we had like
- 20:57a stool.
- 20:57I could even sit on the stool.
- 20:59So I had options.
- 21:00And at this stage, ladies and gentlemen, clarity
- 21:03does not come all at once.
- 21:05It comes in, well, trickle layers.
- 21:09Small insights first, then a structure slowly returns.
- 21:14But again, the structure doesn't happen overnight.
- 21:19And people get disappointed because they don't get
- 21:22the answers they want now.
- 21:24That's probably the problem for a lot of
- 21:27people.
- 21:28And then ladies and gentlemen, you know what
- 21:29happens?
- 21:29The decisions become easier.
- 21:32When I learned that, you know, I wasn't
- 21:35going to be able to put on pants
- 21:36every day.
- 21:37That was going to be hard for me.
- 21:38And I learned what breakout pants where I'm
- 21:40like, oh, wait a minute.
- 21:41I could do the same thing like the
- 21:42basketball players do and put on breakout pants.
- 21:44And then they have Basie snaps.
- 21:46You just, you could just snap off the
- 21:48whole thing or just snap off.
- 21:50In my case, all I did was snap
- 21:51off the one leg and just snap it
- 21:53right on.
- 21:54And that worked well.
- 21:55So it was just Basie underwear and my
- 21:58breakout pants.
- 22:00And so the decisions became easier for me.
- 22:02And when something happened that was able to
- 22:05propel me forward, I got a really good
- 22:09feeling that I'm doing this myself.
- 22:10Yes, my leg is broken.
- 22:12Yes, I can't walk.
- 22:14Yes, things are going to take me longer,
- 22:16but I had a solution and I could
- 22:20still be independent.
- 22:21And so the focus sharpens.
- 22:24The direction starts to stabilize.
- 22:26Again, you're like, okay, I get some hope.
- 22:29What most people miss is this.
- 22:32Are you ready guys?
- 22:34You sure you're ready?
- 22:35Okay.
- 22:35Breakdown, you with me?
- 22:38Breakdown is not the end of structure.
- 22:44No, let me say it again.
- 22:46Breakdown is not the end of structure.
- 22:48Breakdown is not the end of structure.
- 22:50It is the beginning of a better structure.
- 22:56But only if you choose to respond correctly.
- 23:01Because a lot of people will have this
- 23:04ego.
- 23:05But I just did a couple of things.
- 23:07One, I prayed to God and the Lord,
- 23:09please give me the strength, Lord, to get
- 23:11through this day and to be able to
- 23:13live my life and not be a burden
- 23:16to anybody and to be safe and to
- 23:19be able to do the things I need
- 23:20to do and to allow people to just
- 23:22give me slack.
- 23:23I wasn't looking for sympathy.
- 23:24I was just praying that people would give
- 23:26me slack because I need it.
- 23:30And ladies and gentlemen, if you resist, you
- 23:34just extend and complicate confusion.
- 23:39There's some people on the earth that just
- 23:41want to resist everything.
- 23:43Why?
- 23:44It's in their nature.
- 23:45They're like thick skull.
- 23:49And so there were people that were nice
- 23:53to me, a lot of people.
- 23:54And there were some people.
- 23:56I had a neighbor of mine who wasn't
- 23:58the nicest.
- 24:02And he was not the nicest, but other
- 24:04people were nice to me.
- 24:08I had another neighbor of mine that was
- 24:10nice, but they were only being nice to
- 24:12me for, well, kind of a reason that
- 24:15what could I do for them?
- 24:18Which is sad because usually you don't do
- 24:20things for the reason that you're going to
- 24:21get something back.
- 24:22Otherwise, don't give.
- 24:24Don't donate your time.
- 24:25Don't give anything.
- 24:26If you observe, you shorten things.
- 24:30You make them easier because now you become
- 24:32awareness of the beginning and the end.
- 24:34And now you know where you went off
- 24:37track.
- 24:38If you adapt, you exit that mode.
- 24:42You exit that struggle, right?
- 24:45We could talk about this in the army
- 24:47or the military, right?
- 24:48They're taught to be soldiers and fighters, but
- 24:50they're told and taught to be very strong.
- 24:55And they are conditioned to be resilient, almost
- 24:58without them thinking about it.
- 25:01So the reason they do this is if
- 25:03a soldier becomes emotional, that training has to
- 25:08kick in immediately.
- 25:09Whether they're emotional or not, it has to
- 25:11kick in like second nature.
- 25:14Momentum does not return instantly.
- 25:17If you think it does, well, guys, you're
- 25:18mistaken.
- 25:19It returns through an alignment.
- 25:23Alignment comes between awareness, behavior, and an action
- 25:28that you take.
- 25:28Now, here's the kicker.
- 25:31Once those three begin to match again, progress
- 25:36restarts, okay?
- 25:39It's like an engine starting up.
- 25:41It doesn't start at once, right?
- 25:42Slow at first, and then it hums and
- 25:46it's consistent.
- 25:48And then it compounds.
- 25:51The example I wanna give you, maybe a
- 25:53lot of you remember the mercury vapor lights
- 25:55that were in a lot of gymnasiums if
- 25:56you had any kind of gym many years
- 25:59ago.
- 25:59They had these lights.
- 26:01And so when you'd go in the first
- 26:04time and they would turn the lights on,
- 26:06they would take anywhere from 10 to 15
- 26:08minutes to come on.
- 26:09Now, if you turn them off, okay?
- 26:13And they're off for let's more than, let's
- 26:15say they were off more than maybe 10
- 26:17seconds, and you turn it back on, they
- 26:19had to go through this whole cold boot
- 26:21up process again.
- 26:21If you just turn it off and you
- 26:22turn it back on, that was fine.
- 26:24But it was off for more than, I
- 26:25think it was 10 or 15 seconds.
- 26:26It would have to go through the whole
- 26:27cold boot up again.
- 26:29And then, so now we're talking about the
- 26:30compounding, right?
- 26:31So discipline, guys, becomes the rebuilding tool, not
- 26:35motivation, not emotion.
- 26:39Discipline because discipline is what allows structure to
- 26:44form when emotion becomes unstable.
- 26:46Because ladies and gentlemen, your emotions are going
- 26:47to become unstable in your life.
- 26:49I've got to let you be aware of
- 26:50that.
- 26:51And structure is what stabilizes direction when everything
- 26:53else is uncertain or it becomes unreliable.
- 26:57Focus becomes more important than the speed because
- 27:01speed without structure recreates chaos.
- 27:04But focus within structure creates progress.
- 27:08Focus within a structure creates progress.
- 27:12Like if you're taking a subject at school,
- 27:14focus within a curriculum creates progress, creates a
- 27:18path for knowledge, for learning.
- 27:20So attentive people and attention becomes selective.
- 27:25Energy becomes intentional and decisions become simplified.
- 27:30As clarity returns, identity begins to rebuild.
- 27:33Not the old identity that you had, but
- 27:37a revised version shaped by experience.
- 27:39Stronger patterns, stronger awareness, stronger decision-making, and
- 27:45less reaction, more intention.
- 27:51Eventually, something important happens and you stop trying
- 27:55to restore what was and start building what
- 28:00works.
- 28:01That shift is the real turning point.
