- 0:00Speaker 1: Toby and Chili mornings on demand on 97.1 Mosh FM.
- 0:04Speaker 2: I don't know about you, Chili, but I'm feeling good
- 0:07Speaker 2: that we never lost power. Knock on wood. Unless it
- 0:10Speaker 2: happened while I was asleep last night. Those storms were
- 0:12Speaker 2: interesting for certain parts of the DMV and for other
- 0:15Speaker 2: parts of the DMV. I know there might not have
- 0:16Speaker 2: been anything. But something went down, 97.1 Wash FM. It's
- 0:20Speaker 2: going to be a chilly in the morning in the
- 0:22Speaker 2: form of trees and power and probably power lines.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Yeah, over 100,000 people. Last check, still without power. About
- 0:31Speaker 3: 16,000 in D.C., about 36,000 in Maryland, about 54,000 in Virginia.
- 0:36Speaker 3: And I'm feeling good this morning because, yes, it woke
- 0:38Speaker 3: me up, all the lightning and all that. But I'm
- 0:40Speaker 3: feeling good because we lost the power as I was
- 0:44Speaker 3: pulling down the street. I got an alert. That's saying it,
- 0:49Speaker 3: our street lost power.
- 0:51Speaker 2: That is so wrong.
- 0:52Speaker 3: I don't mean to laugh, but then it came back
- 0:55Speaker 3: 20 minutes later.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Well, that's a good thing.
- 0:57Speaker 3: So I don't know what it did to the household
- 0:59Speaker 3: after I left with my kid waking up or whatever happening,
- 1:02Speaker 3: but I wasn't there. So that's why I'm feeling good.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I think I'm feeling good because I live closer to like,
- 1:08Speaker 2: you know, Rockville. Well, in Rockville. And I think that
- 1:11Speaker 2: they put the power lines underground. Because sometimes when this
- 1:14Speaker 2: stuff happens, even though it can be torrential. Ours is underground,
- 1:17Speaker 2: but these things still happen. Nothing wrong. Knock on wood.
- 1:21Speaker 2: I hope I didn't just dink it.
- 1:23Speaker 3: But you're also in like a condo complex, and I
- 1:25Speaker 3: feel like you guys don't usually lose it that much.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Not always. I don't know what they do, but whatever
- 1:32Speaker 2: they're doing, keep it up.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Hopefully everything clears up so you can enjoy your holiday
- 1:39Speaker 2: weekend as it steps off. Toby and Chili in the
- 1:41Speaker 2: morning at 97.1 Wash FM. Why are you feeling good today?
- 1:45Speaker 2: Let us know. 866-927-4361 and hang out. We got the news.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Top stories at the top of the hour on the way.
- 1:52Speaker 2: What's going on other than the power outages this morning?
- 1:55Speaker 3: Here's another reason not to spend too much time on TikTok.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Experts say watching medical symptom videos can cause something called
- 2:03Speaker 3: symptom borrowing. I'll explain what that is coming up.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Thousands of folks in the D.C. area waking up without
- 2:16Speaker 3: power this morning after severe storms blew through the area overnight.
- 2:21Speaker 3: So just be careful as you ride into work. You
- 2:23Speaker 3: may be having to dodge some downed tree limbs and debris.
- 2:27Speaker 3: The jury in the Lindsay Clancy triple murder case back
- 2:31Speaker 3: to deliberating today. Yesterday, the judge clarified what reasonable doubt means. Apparently,
- 2:38Speaker 3: the problem centers on one juror. A federal panel is
- 2:43Speaker 3: reviewing the president's plan to put a permanent fence around
- 2:46Speaker 3: Lafayette Park near the White House. The proposal would limit
- 2:49Speaker 3: access with controlled gates, but it would change the look
- 2:52Speaker 3: at the historic park that's long been a gathering place
- 2:55Speaker 3: for protesters. The Maryland Supreme Court ruled yesterday that a
- 2:59Speaker 3: controversial redistricting question can stay on the November ballot, but
- 3:04Speaker 3: they ordered lawmakers to rewrite the language because it was misleading.
- 3:08Speaker 3: The measure could give lawmakers more power to redraw congressional districts.
- 3:13Speaker 3: A worker was killed yesterday at Wolf Trap after a
- 3:17Speaker 3: tour bus that he was working on collapsed when the
- 3:21Speaker 3: support failed. A performance by Adamant and the group Squeeze
- 3:25Speaker 3: was canceled out of respect. Temporary bus lanes along Route
- 3:31Speaker 3: 355 in Montgomery County are going away this Monday. More
- 3:34Speaker 3: than seven miles of bus-only lanes are going to be
- 3:36Speaker 3: reopening to all traffic. The special Glenmont Express bus service
- 3:42Speaker 3: will continue, though, through September 30th. And experts say that
- 3:46Speaker 3: spending too much time watching TikToks about medical symptoms can
- 3:49Speaker 3: actually make you start noticing those symptoms in yourself. They
- 3:53Speaker 3: call it symptom borrowing. And the warning signs include becoming
- 3:57Speaker 3: anxious about vague symptoms. Forecast today, partly cloudy with a
- 4:02Speaker 3: chance of a stray shower. Highs around 92. Right now,
- 4:05Speaker 3: 75 in Gaithersburg.
- 4:07Speaker 2: You know, we've got a special best of the 80s
- 4:09Speaker 2: and 90s weekend. Starts today at 2 with Sabrina Conti
- 4:13Speaker 2: here at 97.1 Wash FM. Now that you've got the news,
- 4:15Speaker 2: top stories at the top of the hour, hang out.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Why?
- 4:19Speaker 2: Because your morning mindset will feature... Lyrics from a song
- 4:23Speaker 2: I know you have heard from back in the 90s
- 4:26Speaker 2: to get you ready for this long holiday weekend edition
- 4:31Speaker 2: of our Best of the 80s and 90s Weekend. Don't
- 4:33Speaker 2: go too far. Friday morning as you get ready to
- 4:38Speaker 2: take off from Woodbridge. It'll be a quick day, I promise.
- 4:42Speaker 2: And then we'll get into the long holiday weekend. It's
- 4:45Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM. And to help you get into the
- 4:48Speaker 2: right frame of mind and in honor of our Special
- 4:52Speaker 2: best of the 80s and 90s weekend that starts later
- 4:54Speaker 2: on it to today. Chili, here we go.
- 4:57Speaker 3: It's our morning mindset. You find a lyric from a
- 4:59Speaker 3: song from either the 80s or 90s and you try
- 5:03Speaker 3: to inspire us with a lyric.
- 5:05Speaker 2: From the year 1993, the year that I graduated from
- 5:08Speaker 2: high school. Mariah and Hero, you don't have to be
- 5:14Speaker 2: afraid of what you are. You don't have to be
- 5:17Speaker 2: afraid of what you are. from Mariah's Hero in 1993,
- 5:22Speaker 2: a song you'll no doubt hear this weekend on 97.1
- 5:25Speaker 2: Wash FM. And I feel like this means to us
- 5:28Speaker 2: that we need to stop apologizing for parts of ourselves
- 5:31Speaker 2: that really don't necessarily fit somebody else's expectations. It's not
- 5:36Speaker 2: about them. It's about yourself and those parts of you
- 5:41Speaker 2: that make you you. I think that lyric is a
- 5:45Speaker 2: reminder that confidence begins with acceptance. self-acceptance, and not necessarily improvement.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Mariah and Hero, you don't have to be afraid of
- 5:57Speaker 2: what you are. Keep that in mind. Enjoy your best
- 6:00Speaker 2: of the 80s and 90s weekend when it starts a
- 6:03Speaker 2: little bit later on today with 97.1 Wash FM. And
- 6:07Speaker 2: let that carry you into the holiday weekend. Stay with us, though,
- 6:10Speaker 2: because in just a bit.
- 6:12Speaker 3: It's been a little while since we got an update
- 6:15Speaker 3: on your recovery from your multiple knee surgeries or procedures.
- 6:19Speaker 3: You said you mentioned that you hit a recovery milestone.
- 6:23Speaker 2: It was inadvertent, but it happened. Okay.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Okay.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Hang out. This is going to sound very morning mindset-ish
- 6:30Speaker 2: of me. It's 97.1 Wash FM, but sometimes the biggest
- 6:34Speaker 2: breakthroughs in your life are the unexpected and unplanned ones. Hi,
- 6:39Speaker 2: and thanks for waking up with Toby and Tilly in
- 6:41Speaker 2: the morning on this Friday before holiday weekend.
- 6:42Speaker 3: I got to give people a backstory if you're not
- 6:44Speaker 3: aware of Toby's health journey or recovery journey. So you
- 6:48Speaker 3: had infections in your knee. You've had surgery. Mm-hmm. And
- 6:51Speaker 3: you've been going to physical therapy and you've been using
- 6:53Speaker 3: what's called a rollator. It's like a walker with wheels
- 6:56Speaker 3: to get around.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Yes.
- 6:58Speaker 3: But you said that you did something for the first
- 7:01Speaker 3: time recently. Share that with us and tell us how
- 7:04Speaker 3: that went.
- 7:05Speaker 2: So you know how I have weekly physical therapy sessions?
- 7:08Speaker 4: Yes.
- 7:08Speaker 2: I have two of them a week. It's not like
- 7:10Speaker 2: they're far away from the house, but you know me,
- 7:12Speaker 2: I'm always running on some degree of Toby time. Well,
- 7:16Speaker 2: I was on time for an appointment this week. Had
- 7:19Speaker 2: I had to wrestle with the rollator in the back
- 7:22Speaker 2: of my car and get it out and get myself situated,
- 7:26Speaker 2: that would have taken time. Time which would have pushed
- 7:29Speaker 2: into my appointment time, which would have cut down the
- 7:32Speaker 2: time that I spent with my physical therapist, Brittany. And
- 7:36Speaker 2: so I decided, Chili, to leave the rollator in the
- 7:39Speaker 2: back of the car without a cane, mind you, and
- 7:42Speaker 2: I just decided to walk myself in.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Whoa.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Now, walking myself in is not an easy thing.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Are you at a fall risk for not using a rollator, though? Like,
- 7:52Speaker 3: are you supposed to or are you cleared to not
- 7:55Speaker 3: use a rollator?
- 7:56Speaker 2: Well, I wasn't thinking about that.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Oh, my God. You could have made it worse. I mean,
- 8:00Speaker 3: you have to like. do a step or two probably i.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Did i just step up over a curve you know
- 8:05Speaker 2: that's about four inches oh no so here i am
- 8:09Speaker 2: leading with the right you know kind of extra stretching
- 8:12Speaker 2: the left just to get myself in and i made
- 8:15Speaker 2: it in fine didn't fall no issues and my physical
- 8:18Speaker 2: therapist britney she goes I saw you walking across the
- 8:21Speaker 2: parking lot without your rollator. And when I walked in,
- 8:24Speaker 2: people were like, oh, you didn't bring the rollator today. Oh,
- 8:27Speaker 2: no rollator and no cane. In retrospect, I should have
- 8:30Speaker 2: brought one or the other.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Yes, I think so. You're being a little ambitious unintentionally.
- 8:35Speaker 2: When I get these unsteady alarms on my Apple Watch,
- 8:38Speaker 2: it's a sign that I probably need to be careful.
- 8:40Speaker 3: So do you think you're ready for graduating to a cane?
- 8:44Speaker 2: Full graduation? I don't think so. Not quite yet. But
- 8:48Speaker 2: I'm getting close. And it's good to feel better. So
- 8:51Speaker 2: little milestone this week. And it's the little milestones that
- 8:54Speaker 2: add up to big milestones. Celebrate your little wins this weekend, okay?
- 8:58Speaker 2: And stay with us because the news is on the way.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Top stories at the top of the hour. What's going
- 9:02Speaker 2: down this morning?
- 9:03Speaker 3: The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is underway
- 9:07Speaker 3: across the DMV this holiday weekend. I've got all the
- 9:10Speaker 3: details coming up.
- 9:12Speaker 2: If you're thinking about getting a hike in on the
- 9:15Speaker 2: W & OD Trail, I would do it earlier rather
- 9:17Speaker 2: than later. Beat the heat. 97.1 Wash FM. And if
- 9:20Speaker 2: you want to go see the Jonas Brothers, you need
- 9:23Speaker 2: to check out 97.1 Wash FM on Instagram.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Or go to WashFM.com for all the details on how
- 9:29Speaker 3: you can see the Jonas Brothers Capital One Arena September 30th.
- 9:33Speaker 1: 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington. An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories,
- 9:40Speaker 1: top of the hour.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Severe storms rolled through the D.C. area overnight, knocking out
- 9:46Speaker 3: power to thousands of customers. I've got the latest on
- 9:50Speaker 3: that story and others on the way. With Toby and
- 9:53Speaker 3: Chili in the morning on 97.1 wash fm.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Top stories top of the hour.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Severe storms rolled through the dc area overnight knocking out
- 10:05Speaker 3: power to thousands of customers many folks are waking up
- 10:08Speaker 3: to debris on the road as they head into work
- 10:12Speaker 3: The jury in the Lindsay Clancy triple murder trial will
- 10:16Speaker 3: resume deliberations today. A dispute over one juror remains unresolved.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Two students were involved in separate weapons incidents yesterday morning
- 10:26Speaker 3: at Magruder High School in Montgomery County. A 15-year-old was
- 10:29Speaker 3: arrested after allegedly assaulting staff. Police found a BB gun
- 10:34Speaker 3: and then another student had a knife. Construction on the
- 10:37Speaker 3: president's controversial 250-foot triumphal arch is expected to begin within
- 10:43Speaker 3: the next two weeks. The massive structure would stand on
- 10:46Speaker 3: Columbia Island, blocking the view between the Lincoln Memorial and
- 10:50Speaker 3: Arlington National Cemetery. The Interior Department is spending $ 2. 7 million
- 10:56Speaker 3: to tackle that algae problem at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
- 11:01Speaker 3: A Massachusetts company is going to be studying the issue
- 11:04Speaker 3: and replace the water treatment equipment despite an earlier pledge
- 11:07Speaker 3: not to hire new vendors. D.C. police are putting a
- 11:11Speaker 3: youth curfew zone in place tonight through Monday in the
- 11:15Speaker 3: U Street corridor. Large groups of teens will not be
- 11:18Speaker 3: allowed to gather in that zone unless they're taking part
- 11:21Speaker 3: in approved activities. While the Drive Sober or Get Pulled
- 11:25Speaker 3: Over campaign is now underway across the D.C. region, with
- 11:29Speaker 3: Labor Day one of the deadliest times for drunk driving crashes,
- 11:33Speaker 3: police are going to be out through Monday looking for
- 11:36Speaker 3: impaired drivers. And 25 years after 9-11, most Americans who
- 11:41Speaker 3: were alive that day still remember exactly where they were
- 11:46Speaker 3: when they heard the news. A new survey finds that 83%
- 11:50Speaker 3: remember clearly, rising to 93% among those who were at
- 11:55Speaker 3: least 10 years old. Forecast today, partly cloudy with a
- 11:58Speaker 3: chance of a stray shower. Highs around 92. Right now,
- 12:02Speaker 3: 76 in Chantilly.
- 12:04Speaker 2: And that is the news. Remember, with Toby and Chili
- 12:06Speaker 2: in the morning, top stories. That's the news you really need.
- 12:09Speaker 2: You get it at the top of every hour, every
- 12:12Speaker 2: weekday when you get up with us. And you get
- 12:15Speaker 2: stimulating conversation as well. Like in moments, we're going to
- 12:19Speaker 2: talk about something so unnecessary. You don't need it, but
- 12:25Speaker 2: you would still spend a ton of money to get it.
- 12:30Speaker 2: What would it be? If you feel like you want
- 12:33Speaker 2: to jump into a conversation, you know where we are.
- 12:35Speaker 2: It's 866-927-4361. Otherwise, stick around because we talk. You want it,
- 12:43Speaker 2: you don't need it, and you'd spend a ton of
- 12:46Speaker 2: money to get it. Sound familiar? Oh, is that hitting
- 12:49Speaker 2: close to home? 97.1 Wash FM, we're Toby and Chili
- 12:52Speaker 2: in the morning. Somebody bought the famous Jurassic Park mosquito.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Think back to the first Jurassic Park, you know, that
- 12:59Speaker 2: one in amber, that little mosquito that had dino DNA.
- 13:03Speaker 2: That's right.
- 13:03Speaker 3: It started the whole movie off.
- 13:05Speaker 4: Right.
- 13:05Speaker 2: The whole franchise. It sure did.
- 13:08Speaker 3: I can get why somebody may be a little sentimental
- 13:10Speaker 3: about it, especially if they love the Jurassic Park movie.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Kind of cool.
- 13:13Speaker 3: But they spent over $ 400, 000 for that mosquito from the movie.
- 13:18Speaker 2: That's not cool.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Where does one put that in your home? You spend
- 13:22Speaker 3: that much money. You better display it. Otherwise, what's the point?
- 13:26Speaker 2: You know, it's kind of like you put that adjacent
- 13:30Speaker 2: to your ego wall. Do you know what the ego
- 13:32Speaker 2: wall is? Yes. That's where you hang all your awards
- 13:34Speaker 2: and anything that has your name on it that you received.
- 13:37Speaker 2: It's kind of cool. And then you would put that
- 13:39Speaker 2: on a little shelf. You'd also have to explain what
- 13:41Speaker 2: it is if it's not labeled. If somebody visits your
- 13:43Speaker 2: home and there's like a little mosquito on the mantle,
- 13:45Speaker 2: like what the hell is that? Oh, I have a
- 13:48Speaker 2: feeling it was probably put into something that said, this
- 13:52Speaker 2: is the mosquito. It would look like it was at
- 13:54Speaker 2: the Hirshhorn.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Is there something completely unnecessary that you would spend a
- 13:57Speaker 3: ton of money on?
- 13:58Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely. The Lamborghini SUV. It's like $ 250, 000 plus. If
- 14:04Speaker 2: you could.
- 14:06Speaker 3: We should also add if you could.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Oh, no. If I had the money to spend, which
- 14:10Speaker 2: I don't at all. Yeah, I know. It would be incredible.
- 14:14Speaker 2: I would just love having it. I would drive it
- 14:16Speaker 2: wherever just to turn heads. What about you, Chili?
- 14:18Speaker 3: It would be a yacht. Oh, I don't need a yacht.
- 14:21Speaker 3: I certainly don't. But if I could, sure.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Where's Chili today? Unnecessary thing. Annapolis.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:26Speaker 4: Why?
- 14:26Speaker 2: She's on her yacht.
- 14:27Speaker 3: I don't know that a Potomac River deserves said yacht,
- 14:30Speaker 3: but sure. Oh no, Annapolis because you're close to the ocean.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:33Speaker 3: I'd have to definitely go out to the bay somewhere,
- 14:35Speaker 3: but yes. Well, that's far better than a beach house.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Don't get it twisted. I will also have a beach house.
- 14:41Speaker 3: But I find that to be necessary. Yeah, if you've
- 14:43Speaker 3: got yacht kind of money, you do you. No problem. 866-927-4361.
- 14:49Speaker 2: It's completely unnecessary, but you would spend hundreds of thousands
- 14:53Speaker 2: of dollars to have it. What is it? Call us
- 14:55Speaker 2: and tell us what that would be for you, and
- 14:57Speaker 2: we'll keep on talking. 866-927-4361 to get a hold of us.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning at 97.1 Wash FM.
- 15:07Speaker 2: It's something so completely unnecessary, but you would spend a
- 15:11Speaker 2: ton of money to get it. What would that be
- 15:14Speaker 2: for you? And for bonus points, tell us why. And
- 15:17Speaker 2: we're bringing it up because somebody dropped a ton of
- 15:20Speaker 2: money on a movie prop.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Yeah, the Jurassic Park mosquito that was trapped in amber.
- 15:24Speaker 3: That's the whole plot twist was kicked off with that
- 15:27Speaker 3: little mosquito.
- 15:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:29Speaker 3: It's $ 403, 000 the person paid.
- 15:31Speaker 2: For some dino DNA.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Well, what would you do if you had all that
- 15:39Speaker 2: money and you had something you wanted and it was
- 15:42Speaker 2: so unnecessary, you didn't need it, but you had to
- 15:44Speaker 2: have it anyway? What would you get? Tell us everything.
- 15:47Speaker 2: We'll start over here with you. Hello, my friend William.
- 15:51Speaker 2: And thank you for listening to us in Percival before
- 15:53Speaker 2: you make that commute on Route 7. You don't need it.
- 15:56Speaker 2: You got to have it. You'd spend whatever to get it.
- 15:58Speaker 2: What would it be?
- 15:59Speaker 4: Any Batmobile from the Christopher Nolan Batman movies.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Tell us why.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Incredible design.
- 16:05Speaker 2: And who wouldn't want to live a life like that?
- 16:07Speaker 2: That would probably take millions of dollars. And that would
- 16:10Speaker 2: make me pause to consider my life choices.
- 16:12Speaker 1: I would go for that in a second if I could.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Well, just careful where you park it.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Yeah, especially in this town. Thank you so much for
- 16:19Speaker 2: that there, William. Now, over to Waldorf. Hello there, Rochelle.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Thanks for calling us before you get your day started.
- 16:26Speaker 3: What are you spending a ridiculous amount of money for
- 16:30Speaker 3: that's completely unnecessary? A movie theater in my house.
- 16:33Speaker 4: Ooh.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Ooh, you know, there's a lot of Labor Day weekend
- 16:36Speaker 2: sales on electronics. You could probably make that happen and
- 16:40Speaker 2: get some really good deal on it for a home
- 16:42Speaker 2: theater system.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Not a home theater, a legit theater with velvet seats,
- 16:47Speaker 3: popcorn machine, little ticket booth. Boy, that seems a little extra.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Completely unnecessary, but I would use it constantly.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Rochelle, you said velvet seats, okay? Just make sure they recline.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Yes, because you need to be comfortable while you watch
- 17:01Speaker 2: your favorite movies on your IMAX screen in your basement. Wow, Rochelle,
- 17:07Speaker 2: thanks for the call this morning. Got some thoughts? What
- 17:10Speaker 2: would you spend a ton of money on that you

- 17:25Speaker 3: New research suggests that women may be more attracted to
- 17:27Speaker 3: luxury brands and bigger designer logos at a certain time
- 17:31Speaker 3: of the month. I've got some details in just a few.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Feel like taking a road trip up 95 North Philadelphia?
- 17:38Speaker 2: Maybe you've heard of Ed Sheeran. He's going to be
- 17:42Speaker 2: at the link. And we can get you into that
- 17:45Speaker 2: show at Lincoln Financial Field in just a bit right

- 17:51Speaker 2: the morning.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Right around 7.10 after Toby and Chili's top stories, we're
- 17:54Speaker 3: going to ask our nearly impossible question. And if you
- 17:57Speaker 3: get it right, you'll see Ed Sheeran September 19th.
- 17:59Speaker 1: 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington. An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories,
- 18:07Speaker 1: top of the hour.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Utility crews scrambling to restore power to thousands of folks
- 18:12Speaker 3: across the DMV after those severe storms overnight. We've got

- 18:27Speaker 1: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Utility crews are scrambling to restore power to thousands of

- 18:40Speaker 3: because you may have to dodge some downed tree limbs
- 18:43Speaker 3: and debris. The administration is asking the Supreme Court to
- 18:47Speaker 3: block delivery of some mail ballots, escalating a legal fight
- 18:51Speaker 3: just two months before the November midterms. A federal panel
- 18:55Speaker 3: is reviewing the president's plan to put a permanent fence
- 18:58Speaker 3: around Lafayette Park near the White House. The proposal would
- 19:02Speaker 3: limit access with controlled gates, changing the look of the
- 19:05Speaker 3: historic park that has long been a gathering place for protesters.
- 19:10Speaker 3: The Maryland Supreme Court ruled yesterday that a controversial redistricting
- 19:15Speaker 3: question can stay on the November ballot. But they ordered
- 19:19Speaker 3: lawmakers to rewrite the language because it was misleading and
- 19:22Speaker 3: the measure could give lawmakers more power to redraw congressional districts.
- 19:27Speaker 3: A worker was killed yesterday at Wolf Trap after a
- 19:31Speaker 3: tour bus that he was working under collapsed when its
- 19:34Speaker 3: support failed. A performance by Adam Ant and the group
- 19:37Speaker 3: Squeeze had to be canceled out of respect. Temporary bus
- 19:42Speaker 3: lanes along Route 355 in Montgomery County are going away
- 19:46Speaker 3: on Monday. More than seven miles of the bus lane.
- 19:50Speaker 3: lanes will be reopening to all traffic. And new research
- 19:55Speaker 3: suggests that women may be more attracted to luxury brands
- 19:59Speaker 3: and bigger designer logos during ovulation. Researchers say it's not
- 20:04Speaker 3: simply about wanting expensive things. The preference appears tied to
- 20:10Speaker 3: attracting social attention. Forecast for today, partly cloudy skies, do
- 20:16Speaker 3: have a chance of a stray shower. Highs around 92,
- 20:18Speaker 3: right now 76 in Waldorf. Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.
- 20:26Speaker 2: 866-927-4361 is the number. What is our question this morning?
- 20:30Speaker 3: 29% of people recycle this device.
- 20:33Speaker 2: What is it? What would it Call us now. Get
- 20:37Speaker 2: it right. Ed Sheeran, thanks to AEG, the link in Philly. Otherwise,
- 20:41Speaker 2: don't just link in Financial Field. It'll be a little
- 20:43Speaker 2: road trip because we'll get you into the show. You
- 20:45Speaker 2: just have to get yourself there. The question again.
- 20:48Speaker 3: 29% of people recycle this device. What is it?
- 20:52Speaker 2: If you want to see Ed Sheeran in Philadelphia for free,
- 20:54Speaker 2: you'll call 866-927-4361 right now.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Questions.
- 21:03Speaker 3: We'll use that question again one more time. 29% of
- 21:07Speaker 3: people recycle this. What is it?
- 21:10Speaker 2: Want to take a road trip? Philadelphia? See Ed Sheeran
- 21:14Speaker 2: at Lincoln Financial Field? Get that question right and you'll
- 21:19Speaker 2: win at 866-927-4361. Who is this and where are you
- 21:22Speaker 2: from on a Friday morning? Por favor.
- 21:24Speaker 3: Good morning.
- 21:25Speaker 1: This is Crystal calling from Greensboro, Maryland.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Welcome, Crystal. You've got the question and your guess is?
- 21:32Speaker 3: I'm going to guess your phone.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Your phone.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Do you tend to recycle your smartphone or do you
- 21:38Speaker 3: just stick it in a drawer and forget about it?
- 21:41Speaker 1: I stick mine in a drawer and forget about it.
- 21:43Speaker 2: You and me both. Once one of our bosses sends
- 21:47Speaker 2: me this link to a place that'll recycle those. And
- 21:51Speaker 2: he says, I'm sending you this because I know your
- 21:54Speaker 2: top right drawer is full of BlackBerry's old phones. And
- 21:59Speaker 2: I'm like, guilty as charged. Guilty as charged.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Unlike the two of you, 29% of people recycle their
- 22:06Speaker 3: old smartphone. So that was the right answer. Congratulations to you.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Awesome. Thank you guys so much.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Gas up the ride. You're going to drive to Philadelphia
- 22:15Speaker 2: and see Ed Sheeran, Lincoln Financial Field. A pair of
- 22:19Speaker 2: tickets to this very incredible show are now yours. Thanks
- 22:23Speaker 2: to AEG. Awesome.
- 22:25Speaker 4: Thank you guys.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Have a great weekend.
- 22:27Speaker 2: You too. Go and enjoy responsibly, but not too responsibly.
- 22:35Speaker 2: And tell us the name of the station that just
- 22:36Speaker 2: hooked you up, please.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Wash FM.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Back on Tuesday after the long holiday weekend with your
- 22:41Speaker 2: tickets to see Usher and Chris Brown at M &
- 22:44Speaker 2: T Bank Stadium. If you want them, be here to
- 22:46Speaker 2: play and win right around 7-10. And stay with us
- 22:49Speaker 2: because it is Friday and there is a story that
- 22:52Speaker 2: will make you feel so good today.
- 22:55Speaker 3: It's about a local man from Leesburg living out a
- 22:59Speaker 3: hockey comeback that nobody saw coming.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Time now to wrap up this week at 97.1 Wash
- 23:05Speaker 2: FM with Toby and Chili in the morning. We've got
- 23:07Speaker 2: a story that just feels good on this Friday morning.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Connor Leslie is 24, grew up in Leesburg and played
- 23:16Speaker 2: eight years with the Little Caps, the Little Hockey League.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Finished his college career at Amherst and was fixing to
- 23:23Speaker 2: go into federal law enforcement. But all of that changed
- 23:27Speaker 2: when he became the Caps emergency backup goalie. Connor, that's amazing.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Take us back to when you thought hockey was over.
- 23:35Speaker 2: How did you make peace with it?
- 23:37Speaker 4: It's one of those experiences where I just had no
- 23:40Speaker 4: idea this would be something in my future. When I
- 23:43Speaker 4: got that call from Scott Murray, God bless him, it
- 23:46Speaker 4: couldn't have happened at a better time.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Well, tell everybody what exactly an emergency backup goalie or
- 23:50Speaker 3: an e-bug gets to do, Connor. Tell us what your
- 23:53Speaker 3: quote-unquote job is for the Caps.
- 23:55Speaker 4: If both goalies were to get hurt or for whatever
- 23:58Speaker 4: reason something happens, I'd be, that's emergency, last line of
- 24:03Speaker 4: defense to go in for the team and help them out.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Admit it, you secretly want that call, don't you? Just
- 24:08Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 24:09Speaker 4: So I'm just there for the worst case scenario. If
- 24:12Speaker 4: they need me, I'm more than happy to help.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Connor, if you ever did get that call mentally, is
- 24:18Speaker 3: that going to be a lot of pressure or not
- 24:20Speaker 3: as much because, quote unquote, you're the third guy?
- 24:23Speaker 4: I've gotten that question a lot from a lot of friends. Sure,
- 24:26Speaker 4: I'd be shaking in my boots a little bit first.
- 24:28Speaker 4: It would just be so cool to even get that chance.
- 24:30Speaker 3: And how starstruck do you get when you're skating with
- 24:32Speaker 3: those guys?
- 24:33Speaker 4: It's beyond surreal. I'm Leesburg native, grew up loving the
- 24:38Speaker 4: Washington Capitals, being here at MedStar, seeing the guys just
- 24:42Speaker 4: out on the ice, being around them like a teammate.
- 24:44Speaker 4: It's just really cool.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Connor, what does it feel like when something that you
- 24:49Speaker 2: loved once upon a time, you thought you'd said goodbye to,
- 24:52Speaker 2: comes back and finds you?
- 24:55Speaker 4: When I fully thought that I was done and the
- 24:57Speaker 4: next stage of my life was going to be playing
- 24:59Speaker 4: beer league. Next thing you know, I'm doing it for
- 25:02Speaker 4: the team that I grew up loving. It's just such
- 25:05Speaker 4: a cool experience that I'm going to get to talk
- 25:08Speaker 4: about for the rest of my life. And I'm very fortunate.
- 25:10Speaker 1: And grateful for that.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Hopefully it turns into something even more tremendous that you
- 25:15Speaker 3: can't even imagine today.
- 25:17Speaker 1: That would be really cool.
- 25:18Speaker 2: How can you not feel good about Connor's story on
- 25:21Speaker 2: a Friday? Connor, thank you.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 25:24Speaker 4: It really means a lot.
- 25:25Speaker 2: We've got even more on the Toby and Chili page, washfm.com.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Top stories at the top of the hour on the way,
- 25:30Speaker 2: right around 8 to 10. Chili, what you working on?
- 25:32Speaker 3: The D.C. State Fair is happening this weekend, and I've
- 25:36Speaker 3: got some details for you coming up.
- 25:37Speaker 2: How would you like to join Chili Amar and myself,
- 25:40Speaker 2: Toby Knapp? At the old ball game, sitting in terror
- 25:44Speaker 2: club seats to see the Nats take on the Angels
- 25:46Speaker 2: because we would like to have you and a friend
- 25:49Speaker 2: join us. It's 97.1 Wash FM. So now that we've
- 25:53Speaker 2: got your attention.
- 25:54Speaker 3: It is a VIP experience sitting behind home plate September 12th.
- 25:59Speaker 3: Just make sure you're listening right around 810 after Toby
- 26:03Speaker 3: and Chili's top stories for your chance to join us.
- 26:05Speaker 1: 97.1 WASH FM, Washington. An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on
- 26:12Speaker 1: Top Stories, top of the hour.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Thousands of folks in the D.C. area waking up without
- 26:18Speaker 3: power this morning. We've got the latest on that story
- 26:21Speaker 3: and others on the way. With Toby and Chili in
- 26:24Speaker 3: the morning on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 26:32Speaker 3: Severe storms roll through the D.C. area overnight, leaving thousands
- 26:36Speaker 3: of people in the dark. Many folks are having to
- 26:38Speaker 3: drive around debris on the road as they head into work.
- 26:43Speaker 3: The jury in the Lindsay Clancy triple murder trial will
- 26:47Speaker 3: resume deliberations today. A dispute over one juror remains unresolved.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Construction on the president's controversial 250-foot triumphal arch is expected
- 26:58Speaker 3: to begin within the next two weeks. The massive structure
- 27:01Speaker 3: would stand on Columbia Island, blocking the view between the
- 27:04Speaker 3: Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. Meanwhile, at least 150
- 27:09Speaker 3: trees have been removed from East Potomac Park ahead of
- 27:12Speaker 3: a planned golf course renovation. The administration calls it routine maintenance,
- 27:16Speaker 3: but preservation groups are suing to stop construction. Metro riders
- 27:21Speaker 3: should expect Labor Day weekend service changes. The Green Line
- 27:26Speaker 3: is going to be shutting down between Greenbelt and Hyattsville
- 27:28Speaker 3: Crossing with shuttles available. Greenbelt and College Park stations will
- 27:33Speaker 3: close and Yellow Line trains will run only between Huntington
- 27:37Speaker 3: and Mount Vernon Square. The D.C. State Fair is happening
- 27:41Speaker 3: this weekend at Anthem Row in northwest D.C., The annual
- 27:45Speaker 3: event celebrates local agriculture, food, and art. And K Street
- 27:50Speaker 3: between 7th and 9th will close Sunday night through early
- 27:54Speaker 3: Monday morning. And finally, for the first time ever, people
- 27:59Speaker 3: 65 and older now outnumber children under the age of
- 28:03Speaker 3: 5 worldwide. Falling birth rates and longer lifespans are driving
- 28:08Speaker 3: the shift. Forecast today, partly cloudy skies with a chance
- 28:11Speaker 3: of a stray shower. Highs in the low 90s. Right now,
- 28:14Speaker 3: 77 in Gainesville.
- 28:16Speaker 2: And that's the news. Top stories at the top of
