- 0:58Thank you. Welcome back everybody.
- 1:01Episode 147, Oops, I goofed. It's actually episode 148.
- 1:07Sorry guys, it's been a while. I believe we're going to touch
- 1:10on tonight about the mini meal survey and then there's a few
- 1:14other things that we will address that's been going around
- 1:18as well. But on that note, I know it's
- 1:20been a couple weeks and yeah, it's been a couple weeks from,
- 1:25but other than that, how has been the last couple weeks for
- 1:27you, Josh? Just ducky, you know, just with
- 1:32my best postal life, I can't really think of one way or
- 1:37another healthy, you know, good, bad or otherwise.
- 1:40The other than my management team is, well-being the best,
- 1:46their best selves. We'll leave it at that.
- 1:50How about you, ma'am? How was your last week or two?
- 1:54Week or 2 is OK. Yesterday was rough with the day
- 1:59after the holiday. My mail volumes have been
- 2:02fluctuating between extreme or not or nothing so it's kind of
- 2:10weird. But then today I had three full
- 2:14coverages inside my DPS which was insane.
- 2:18So it's been been interesting. I guess you know, it's just
- 2:23taking it day by day, but how have you been, Kristen?
- 2:28Oh I haven't been working much but I got back in on the route
- 2:35last week on Monday. I went and did some OJT and a
- 2:40nearby office for Tuesday and Wednesday and back to my route
- 2:44Thursday and had Amazon didn't show up.
- 2:47So that was actually kind of nice and got done with the route
- 2:50Thursday and headed back down to my mom's.
- 2:54And yeah, that's where I've been spending all my time off is down
- 2:59at Mom's still trying to get all this paperwork stuff finished.
- 3:05It's been it's been a ride, that's for sure.
- 3:08Definitely has been a ride. Ruby's been going down with me
- 3:12with Little Man and then I gave her a reprieve week on this past
- 3:15weekend and I took Little Man with me.
- 3:17So it was Grandma, Great Grandma and Little Man.
- 3:21And yeah, so I think I'm going down just myself for Friday and
- 3:26Saturday night this week. And mom is she's doing learning
- 3:30to live on her own. This past Sunday would have been
- 3:33their 51st wedding anniversary. So it's living on her own.
- 3:38Plus the battles with with dementia have been I don't sleep
- 3:42much, plain and simple. I don't sleep much.
- 3:46I get phone calls at 2:30 in the morning, 3:00 AM, five AM 530.
- 3:52You know, that's, that's just my life right now.
- 3:56A lot of normal things have kind of been put on the back burner.
- 4:01I just got to take care of mom. But other than that, it's been
- 4:04good. I got back on the route
- 4:05yesterday. It was a day after a holiday
- 4:08that's for sure to get ready to leave and went to start the
- 4:12truck and my truck wouldn't start and my truck wouldn't
- 4:15start and my truck wouldn't start And then the two O 4B came
- 4:19out and the truck still wouldn't start and it still wouldn't
- 4:22start. So they called the local garage
- 4:24that we have the contract through and they came out and it
- 4:27wouldn't start. So then I had to unload the
- 4:30truck and so they could flatbed the truck off and then had to
- 4:34wait so they could go back to the truck garage management to
- 4:39go pick up the Metris for the City side and had the city ox
- 4:43carrier bring back the rural ox truck to get the Metris.
- 4:49So I could use the rural ox truck for my route.
- 4:53But thankfully, because it was pert near noon by the time I got
- 4:55out of the office, I was able to she called in a sub to run on my
- 5:01big packages. So I just drove and delivered
- 5:04smalls and and whatnot and still ended up with 157 scans.
- 5:08So that was, yeah, that was a holiday.
- 5:11Tuesday, Monday, Monday is Tuesday from hell for me all
- 5:16around on three hours of sleep. And today it was still DPS hell
- 5:23and it was all junk. I brought back over 1/2 tray of
- 5:26undeliverable mail because Liberty Mutual and Progressive.
- 5:30That's all I got to say. If you know, you know.
- 5:33So yeah, it's been trying to get back to normal day-to-day stuff,
- 5:39but it's my normal day-to-day is not the same as it used to be.
- 5:44But and that now we're going to jump into, Oh yeah, we have a
- 5:48mini mail survey starting Saturday and we were going back
- 5:52through the episodes and realized we never did a pre mini
- 5:55mail survey episode ever. It's always been either right
- 5:59after it started or when it's been completed.
- 6:02So yeah, we decided this time we're going to do a pre mini
- 6:07mail survey. So, yeah, yeah.
- 6:11About time, right? Yeah, let's get the information
- 6:15out at least a couple days ahead of time this time instead of
- 6:18afterwards. So yeah, Saturday starts the
- 6:22Spring 2026 mini mail survey. So we used to have.
- 6:27I'm going to just start off by saying we used to have a mail
- 6:33count. So if you're new here, there
- 6:35used to be what was called like a two week mail count.
- 6:38That would happen. So a lot of people still try to
- 6:42refer or I'm not going to go in the whole nitty gritty of it,
- 6:46but a lot of people will like to call this the mini mail survey,
- 6:52the mail count, which it is not, it's just a survey.
- 6:56I was just going to say that the count was 2 to 4 weeks depending
- 7:01on which year and time of year. Yeah.
- 7:05But we don't, we do not do that anymore because we are on the RX
- 7:12system which we do this two week mini mail survey twice a year.
- 7:19So the dates for this time frame for this mini mail survey
- 7:26starting on Saturday, February 7th, management could start
- 7:33entering all of the route settings into the program RMSS
- 7:39and they can also start measuring your office walk
- 7:43distance and I'll get into that in a second.
- 7:46Saturday, February 21st, 2026. It's the first day of the mini
- 7:52mail survey and it will. It's a first day of a 12 day
- 7:58mini mail survey and they begin data entry of the daily volume
- 8:03and the miscellaneous time. And then Friday, March 6th, 2026
- 8:09is the end of the mini mail survey and all of the data for
- 8:14the routes should have been being entered each day of the
- 8:18mini mail survey. But that's the end of it.
- 8:21March, Friday, March 6th, 2026 is also the last day for you to
- 8:30have mapped your DPM and LTM mapping.
- 8:34So if you had growth or you needed to make some changes, you
- 8:39should be doing your mapping every month at the end of the
- 8:42month. But if you if you still need to
- 8:45finish something, that's the day that you need to make sure that
- 8:49you have everything in there. The other thing is, is that it
- 8:56is also the last day of the 52 week period.
- 9:00So from our, our new evaluations will essentially be March 7th,
- 9:082020, sixth, sorry March 7th, 2025 through March 6th, 2026.
- 9:16So just keep that in mind if you're looking at your data.
- 9:21And then Friday, March 13th is the lockout date for the mini
- 9:25mail survey. And so that's the final date for
- 9:29all of the entries, the mini mail survey entries into RMSS
- 9:34and you won't be able to update anything.
- 9:37Let's say management didn't enter something correctly.
- 9:41And I don't know what the time cut off is on that date cause
- 9:45typically it's like middle of the day central time, it cuts
- 9:49off. So getting that done sooner than
- 9:52later is more important. But just so you know.
- 9:56And then Saturday, March 28th, 2020 sixth is when the PS Forms
- 10:024241 A and 4241 M's should be available and management can
- 10:08print and distribute PS Forms 4241 A&M.
- 10:11And then the effective date of this evaluation is April 4th,
- 10:172020. Sixth.
- 10:19Now I will put a little mini disclaimer here.
- 10:24If you are a route that was adjusted in the last 52 weeks,
- 10:32you will still have to go through with the mini mail
- 10:35survey, but you will not receive a new evaluation until you have
- 10:40over the 52 weeks. So let's say that management
- 10:44adjusted you like in October or November, then then you No,
- 10:51baby, not right now. Then you you won't receive them
- 10:54like the other routes. And that is if your route was
- 10:57adjusted. Yeah, play a game, baby.
- 11:02That's a hold on one second. I'm sorry guys.
- 11:05So why she's doing that? I wanted to say especially with
- 11:09the mapping with the cut off being March 6th, please make
- 11:13sure you get in and do your mapping.
- 11:15Take the extra time to make sure your park points, your door
- 11:19point, your drop, your delivery points, your your mailbox
- 11:23points, making sure that those are all correct.
- 11:27When you get into the line of travel management, make sure all
- 11:30your traffic control points are there.
- 11:33Really. This mapping is definitely one
- 11:37to pay extra attention to because it's going to be the big
- 11:41part of your new evaluation. This is this is the one, this is
- 11:46the one that makes that counts towards the evaluation.
- 11:50Yes they all are important for your route overall, but this is
- 11:57the one that when they re evaluate you as a result of
- 12:02collecting all the data, this is the the DPM and LTM to vacate
- 12:07the information from for the next 6 months.
- 12:11Yes. Yeah.
- 12:13And when they print those 4241 A's and M's come March 28th, the
- 12:18date that it will say on the top for the mapping date will be it.
- 12:23It will take, it'll show you which one they took all that
- 12:25information from. So, So what is the mini mail
- 12:30survey? It is, it's just us counting
- 12:36like basic mail volume. It's just our raw letters or our
- 12:42our what, what do you call it? Working letters that are not
- 12:46sequenced in order. It is also counting your random
- 12:52flats that and, and I'm going to add this to this.
- 12:56It's typically the things that are given to you at the hot
- 13:00case, things that are not sorted on automation.
- 13:05And then it is also counting miscellaneous letters and the
- 13:10mistakes that are inside of your DPS and the upside downs.
- 13:13But I'll I'll get into that in a few minutes.
- 13:17Every single route are included in the mini mail survey and
- 13:22management is supposed to give you a stand up talk prior to the
- 13:27mini mail survey and it'll be your opportunity to ask
- 13:29questions and confirm like different procedures like if
- 13:33your office has changed anything.
- 13:35We've done this a few Times Now, so we should have more of a
- 13:38routine. But if you're new, this is a
- 13:41good opportunity for you to ask how management is going to be
- 13:44doing certain things. There's I know a lot of
- 13:48confusion with like the NLM or the S99 mail that would not be
- 13:54counted during this. And so there's different
- 13:57procedures that might happen with that if your office
- 14:01rearranged different things. You know, there's there's things
- 14:04that you can ask during that stand up time with management.
- 14:09Located to a SNDC from your old office or station.
- 14:14And regardless of whether or not things had changed in your
- 14:20office, you are still supposed to measure things.
- 14:23And I can get into that in a second.
- 14:25The mini meal survey is just one component used to determine the
- 14:29route evaluations under RX. It's only about 5 to 6% of your
- 14:35evaluation overall, but I know a lot of people will try and
- 14:40diminish the impact that it has. But any you could be a couple
- 14:46minutes away from the next base hour and this min e-mail survey
- 14:52could make or break that for you.
- 14:54It could be the difference between thousands of dollars
- 14:57that a route is owed. You know, it could.
- 14:59You're going from A43K to A44K and especially now with our new
- 15:06contract because we are grow as you go.
- 15:10If you were that close you know and you've activated a few
- 15:16addresses, you know that might be what changes the evaluation.
- 15:20So every little bit is significant in this.
- 15:26So I know I, I feel like right now there's a lot of people who
- 15:32are just like complicit to it and they like, why should I
- 15:36care? But it's we all need to be
- 15:40diligent to make sure that we are capturing this volume
- 15:44because it's our money. And it's not only just the arm,
- 15:49the regulars money, it's the Subs money.
- 15:52That is a cool painting baby and it is also used in conjunction
- 15:56with other data gathered from automated stuff like on the
- 16:00scanner and the route mapping stuff.
- 16:03The only people who are allowed to conduct the mini mail survey
- 16:07are EAS employees who have a 1723 on on file.
- 16:12Any rule carrier who is conducting it has to be in a
- 16:162O4B capacity. But you can us as rule carriers
- 16:22have the ability to verify what management counted.
- 16:25And I would encourage you to just for your own records and if
- 16:29there's any disputes that happen, there's 12 RX office
- 16:34walk distances that will be measured jointly by the manager
- 16:38and the assigned carrier. So if you're the regular on the
- 16:41route, you'll be walking with management.
- 16:42If you're an auxiliary RCA that's still holding down a
- 16:47route, you will be the one that is assigned with that hold on
- 16:52one second. Are you OK baby?
- 16:54OK, sorry, I heard my kid fall. And then management will be
- 17:00entering the, the, the data that they're doing daily and they
- 17:04have to do it in a timely manner no later than close of business
- 17:08on the current business day. So if you have a manager who's
- 17:11trying to tell you, oh, we'll enter it all at the end, that's
- 17:16a no, no. Only the following items are
- 17:19counted during the mini mail survey.
- 17:21So it's just random letters, random flats, the office walk
- 17:24distance and then the miscellaneous office activity.
- 17:30The PARS labels are now were counted during the mini mail
- 17:34survey, but now they are aren't any longer.
- 17:38They're counted through a 52 week average.
- 17:41And then the management management will use three
- 17:45different forms. One of them is going to be the
- 17:47office walking distance data collection form, which I'll go
- 17:50over here in a second. And then they'll have a daily
- 17:53volume worksheet. And then there's a miscellaneous
- 17:55activity worksheet that they will use daily to collect some
- 17:59of those miscellaneous activity things.
- 18:03So on the office walk distance form, and I'm going to just say
- 18:09all of these forms are also located on the union website and
- 18:13they're under a mini mail survey section in the news or What's
- 18:16new section. So if you ever wanted to look at
- 18:19any of them, they're there. But management also has these
- 18:23available to them off of RMSS and they also have them
- 18:27available off of like the blue page for them.
- 18:30So the RX AM walking distance data collection form, it has
- 18:36like your facility, your zip code on there, a finance number,
- 18:39your roll route number, the manager who's conducting it and
- 18:44printed and then they will sign it and date it.
- 18:47The carrier's name printed and then you will also sign it and
- 18:50date it. As she was mentioning, they're
- 18:54supposed to be entering those numbers daily, and either that
- 19:00day or first thing the next morning they should be giving
- 19:04you a copy of what they entered in the system so you can verify
- 19:09for yourself. Yes.
- 19:11So that you if there is an error, you can get with
- 19:16management to correct it immediately instead of all of it
- 19:19at the end. Yes, OK.
- 19:23So on this forum it underneath of it then it'll say does this
- 19:27route receive withdrawal credit Now if the route receives
- 19:32withdraw, it's most offices in the country are withdraw
- 19:37offices. If you have to leave your case
- 19:41to go and get any piece of mail that management or the clerks
- 19:46are not bringing you 100% of of these things, then you are are
- 19:51what is considered a withdraw office.
- 19:55So just you just won't have any footage to go to some of these
- 20:00items. But if you all or it's all or
- 20:04nothing, sorry, it's not all or nothing.
- 20:06It's, well, all or nothing in the sense that management or the
- 20:10clerks have to bring you everything now.
- 20:14The next part of this walking distance segments you will
- 20:18measure the round trip distance footage required for the carrier
- 20:22to complete the segment where applicable.
- 20:25Office walking distances only applies to activities performed
- 20:29in the AM when the carrier is in the office prior to departing
- 20:34for to the street for delivery. Activities performed in the PM
- 20:39after carrier returns to office from delivery are included in
- 20:42end of shift duties. So the first thing is the
- 20:46scanner storage area and you will also I'll just read it as
- 20:52I'm going and it'll it's from the scanner storage area to the
- 20:56carrier's case. And it is from the point where
- 20:59the carrier stands when retrieving the scanner to the
- 21:03point where the carrier stands when casing mail #2 from the
- 21:08carrier's case to the raw letter or raw flats distribution case.
- 21:15From the point where the carrier stands when casing mail to the
- 21:18point where the carrier stands when retrieving raw letters or
- 21:21raw flats, whichever is further. Include walking distance to
- 21:26obtain a conveyance if typically required.
- 21:29And that's for withdrawal routes only.
- 21:32So if you're an office that does not have like little hampers or
- 21:37buggies and you need to get a conveyance to go and retrieve
- 21:41them, then the measurement has to include you getting that
- 21:44conveyance in this number. 3, the kit from the carrier's case
- 21:50to the DPS letters distribution rack, from the point where the
- 21:54carrier stands when casing mail to the point where the carrier
- 21:57normally stands when retrieving the first tray from the DPS
- 22:01letter rack. Include walking distance to
- 22:04obtain a conveyance if typically required, and then again for
- 22:07withdrawal routes only #5-A carrier's case to the parcel
- 22:13hamper retrieval from the point where the carrier stands when
- 22:17casing mail to the location where the carrier normally
- 22:20stands when grasping the handle of the parcel hamper for
- 22:24transport to their case. Now, I'm going to add a little
- 22:28disclaimer here because there's a little bit of confusion that
- 22:31happens here. There is some routes I know that
- 22:34have a lot of mail volume and you're going to have to go and
- 22:38get a parcel hamper twice. RX has a system that if you are
- 22:43retrieved, if you have over a certain amount of of parcel
- 22:47scans, then you are automatically credited with
- 22:51getting a second parcel hamper. So again, this is only one round
- 22:58trip and then hold on one. 2nd, I believe that 60 or 64 parcels
- 23:06it's. It's 62.
- 23:07I, I, I think and I think it says yeah, and I think.
- 23:14It's on your. It's also 142. 41M So, so just
- 23:23make sure that you're only getting measured one round trip
- 23:27here. So carry.
- 23:30So the number six is carrier's case to the assigned location or
- 23:34typical location for inspection of government vehicle from the
- 23:37point where the carrier stands when casing mail to the point
- 23:41where the carrier stands when opening the driver's door of the
- 23:45parked vehicle. Use the assigned parking if
- 23:48there is one or the typical location if there is none.
- 23:53Now we, I'm going to add another disclaimer here in RX, we get
- 23:59credit for vehicle inspection time that is not included in
- 24:05this footage for us walking out there.
- 24:08This is just so that you're, it's, it's the measurement of
- 24:12the footage for you to complete another task essentially.
- 24:18So #7 from the carrier's case to the CFS markup, MMM centralized
- 24:24hold mail and then to the carrier's case from the point
- 24:28where the carrier stands when casing mail and follows their
- 24:32normal path to the CFS, the markup case, the M&M location,
- 24:38centralized holds, and back to the carrier's case.
- 24:41Note the order of the locations may vary according to local
- 24:45practices. Now by office.
- 24:48Personally, we keep our holds at our case because we have enough
- 24:51room. But if you're a office where you
- 24:55have your holds in another location that you have to take
- 24:59them to, you'll just measure it in this round trip that you're
- 25:02doing for your CFS and all of those other things.
- 25:06Number 8, So from the carrier's case to the accountables
- 25:10distribution point, from the point where the carrier stands
- 25:14when casing mail to the point where the carrier receives
- 25:17accountable mail from the clerk in the morning.
- 25:21Now, if like your clerk sits in one location and you guys all
- 25:25walk there, or if it's like on an accountable card that comes
- 25:29around, it just depends upon your office and, and the
- 25:32procedures that you do #9 from the carrier.
- 25:37'S case. Well, we're on with with the
- 25:39accountables like for example with us in the morning after we
- 25:44do clock into the safety service talk and then we go to the
- 25:49accountable cart to get our vehicle key and then go out and
- 25:52check the vehicles and then sometime after that they bring
- 25:56the accountable cart around. Would you in your opinion say
- 26:02that my measurement is to where the accountable car is in the
- 26:06morning to get my vehicle gate for that measurement?
- 26:09I would include your measurement to go and get your key, your
- 26:14vehicle key in with your vehicle inspection time or sorry, you're
- 26:20in #6 the assigned location or typical location for inspection
- 26:25of government vehicle. So I would use it.
- 26:29It would be like from from your case to that cart of where the
- 26:33key is located and then to the vehicle.
- 26:36OK. Does that does that make sense?
- 26:39Yes it does. Yeah, OK.
- 26:41I would. Agree with that as well.
- 26:43Because if, I mean, I know that you're having a safety service
- 26:46talk, but that's going to be another footage in another
- 26:50location that I haven't gotten to yet, but also management,
- 26:53they decide that they don't want to have a safety service talk
- 26:56that day. Well, that that was the question
- 27:01wasn't so much about the safety service talk, but it was for the
- 27:05measurement to the accountables because our vehicle keys are on
- 27:10the accountable cart and stationary in one spot in the
- 27:15morning when we get the vehicle key.
- 27:18And then typically they, depending on who it is that
- 27:22brings the accountable card around, either walks to each
- 27:25case or parks it at the bottom of the row and tells it, you
- 27:29know, says for everyone to come get their key, they're
- 27:34accountable. OK.
- 27:35So when you measure for this accountables distribution point
- 27:40on #8 here, it'll be the what's most common.
- 27:44So Matt, that's, that's partly why they have that stand up
- 27:47because management needs to make that determination of what are
- 27:51they going to be doing consistently.
- 27:53Because they, they, they a lot of them tend to forget that we
- 27:59are not paid hourly. We are paid by footage,
- 28:01especially in the morning and different tasks.
- 28:05So they need to make a decision about what they're going to do
- 28:09consistently so that you're getting the proper credit.
- 28:13OK. The number 9 is from the
- 28:16carrier's case to the hot case. So from the point where the
- 28:19carrier stands when casing mail to the point where the carrier
- 28:24stands when retrieving hot case mail?
- 28:27No, not applicable. If performed in conjunction with
- 28:30load time #10 from the carrier's case to the location to obtain
- 28:36an additional piece of empty equipment rolling stock or like
- 28:41a a vestibule or you know something, you need to move
- 28:45rolling stock prior to loading a vehicle.
- 28:48From the point where the carrier stands when casing mail to the
- 28:52average point location to obtain an additional piece of empty
- 28:56equipment rolling stock prior to loading vehicle.
- 29:00Note this only applies if this additional piece of equipment is
- 29:03required for loading #11 from the carriers case to the storage
- 29:10location for excess trays and tubs.
- 29:13From the point where the carrier stands when casing mail to the
- 29:17location where excess trays tubs are stored after mail has been
- 29:21loaded for conveyance to the vehicle.
- 29:24And then #12 is from the carrier's case to the location
- 29:29of where the safety service talk is given.
- 29:31From the point where the carrier stands when casing mail to the
- 29:34designated safety service talk location.
- 29:38So that is the office walking distance.
- 29:44After management has put in all of this, they'll write down all
- 29:47the footage and then management will enter it into RMSS and in
- 29:52the computer you'll sign this form and then it's up to
- 29:55management to hold on to this. For each mini mail survey I
- 30:00usually make management make me a copy of it for my own records.
- 30:04Because if management entered a bunch of big fat zeros into my
- 30:08walking distance, I'm going to rage because I know that I have
- 30:11footage for most of these things.
- 30:14So that is that part of that. And management does not need to
- 30:21wait to start doing these measurements for the mini mail
- 30:25survey to happen. That's why what was it?
- 30:29February 7th was the date that they could start doing this and
- 30:32they can start entering this information into the computer
- 30:35and have it all ready to go so that they don't have to worry
- 30:38about it during the mini mail survey.
- 30:43And then the other thing is, is that management will have a
- 30:46thing on there and it's it's route settings confirmed by a
- 30:49manager on the DIS, the dismount distance data collection form.
- 30:54They're going to confirm whether or not you have a left hand
- 30:57drive, government vehicle or POV, like if you're a rule route
- 31:02that's driving a pro master because I know that there's
- 31:05some, they would put that in there.
- 31:10And then like I said, the copy of the completed form will be
- 31:13shared with the carrier. So next we're going to get into
- 31:17the daily volume. So there's a daily volume
- 31:19worksheet and management will have like the route numbers and
- 31:23then they'll have the letters manual, flats, manual,
- 31:27miscellaneous activity. And then for the reason and then
- 31:31they'll have the miscellaneous activity actual time.
- 31:36So for random letters and flats, random letters include letters
- 31:43that have not been ran on any type of automation, meaning like
- 31:51you're miss sorted letters that you've gotten from other routes,
- 31:54especially from the hot case, your NLM or your 999 mail will
- 32:03be on your radar and end of run report.
- 32:06And so you can actually verify those numbers and those are
- 32:08counted year round B letters from manual distribution cases
- 32:14and then C is we will also be counting DPS letter mail errors.
- 32:22So meaning your three M mail, your high rise without secondary
- 32:26addresses, CFS, RTS of them hold mail close business.
- 32:32A good rule of thumb that I have said since the beginning is you
- 32:38treat that DPS that you are delivering like it is the most
- 32:41pristine DPS you have ever had in your entire life.
- 32:45You can just look at the letter, verify the address and deliver
- 32:50it. The moment that you have to do
- 32:53something else with that piece of mail, it now becomes a piece
- 32:57of raw. And so those letters would be
- 33:01counted if it's a miss sort, if it's a hold, if it's business
- 33:06closed, if it's a album because that customer doesn't live there
- 33:10anymore, if it's a forward, the the moment you cannot just look
- 33:14at that letter, deliver it, it becomes raw.
- 33:18And if management has an issue with that, I mean we do not get
- 33:24credit in RX for DPS other than to verify the address, we do not
- 33:31get credit for casing it. So hence why anytime you have to
- 33:36over handle a piece of mail you're getting this raw letter
- 33:40random letter credit. A note for this too is you will
- 33:47not include any of the walk sequence saturation mailings or
- 33:51box holders in this because you will be entering those as the
- 33:56letter saturation mailings per RX for the 52 weeks.
- 34:04The other thing is, is that if you have if your DPS, you're
- 34:10going to flip through it too. For every four upside down
- 34:16letters in your DPS, you get one random letter credit and you're,
- 34:25you're going to have to figure out the system that you want to
- 34:28do with your manager. A lot of the managers are you
- 34:32pretty good with you counting it and looking through it and
- 34:35keeping a tally of it yourself. I would recommend if like half
- 34:41the mail that day is upside down, first thing I do is I go
- 34:45over to the manager and I go, hey, I'm going to have a lot of
- 34:48upside down letters today. So and they'll look through it
- 34:54and unders like verify it, you know, so that they can see it.
- 34:58So the random flats that we are counting in this are the flats
- 35:04that have not been run on automation and they're the flats
- 35:09from the manual distribution case and they are flat size
- 35:13mailings not received in the white tubs or from local
- 35:16distribution cases. It's typically again, the stuff
- 35:20that managed that the clerks have sorted and is in the hot
- 35:23case. So the postmaster or manager
- 35:27who's conducting the count should sign every day and the
- 35:31carrier should receive a copy every single day of the the them
- 35:39entering these numbers in if management's just giving you
- 35:42some sticky note and not having an official, I think it's a
- 35:484241A or no, it's a 4241 M another version of it and it'll
- 35:53show you hey, on on 2/21 you had 100 letters and 50 flats.
- 36:05It'll it'll show up on there. But if you have an issue with
- 36:09management and management is not wanting to count something or
- 36:15you should try and document. I mean, we get like they're
- 36:22these like Costco WSH letters that are raw and the clerks will
- 36:30manually sort them for us. And they are not on any of the
- 36:33NLM or the NI, the S99 mail. And we've had a dispute
- 36:39essentially with management over it.
- 36:42And we monitored all of the end of runs and my managers
- 36:47eventually ended up counting it for our survey.
- 36:50So you just need to communicate with management and, and if
- 36:54there's a piece of mail that management is not wanting to
- 36:58count for whatever reason, I mean, you can ask management,
- 37:02well, then how am I getting credit for this?
- 37:04And you have to essentially get really meta.
- 37:08And so management needs to show you, you know, how, how are you
- 37:11getting credit for this? So then the next thing that
- 37:15we're gonna have is called miscellaneous time.
- 37:19And there's not a lot of different items that will be
- 37:23included in here, but you're gonna have that miscellaneous
- 37:27activity worksheet every single day.
- 37:29And I got into the habit of giving it to the managers every
- 37:32single day. It says like what area you're in
- 37:35district your MPU if you know, and then your office and then
- 37:40the route. And so some of these
- 37:43miscellaneous activities are required customer communication
- 37:47time, good job baby time required if if required by
- 37:53management to answer customer questions across the counter or
- 37:57over the phone if such duties occur daily or weekly.
- 38:00So just keep in mind, if this is something that you're doing
- 38:04repeatedly, then you're not getting credit for it unless
- 38:07you're getting this time during the mini mail survey.
- 38:10If you have electronic parcel lockers, record actual time used
- 38:14daily to service EPL's. Actual time begins once all
- 38:19parcels are located at the EPL and carrier signs in on the
- 38:23keypad and continues until the carrier signs out on the keypad.
- 38:28If the carrier is required to wait to gain access to the
- 38:31keypad, that time is also recorded as actual time.
- 38:35So let's say that an Amazon driver or UPS driver is at that
- 38:38location and they're already used using the locker.
- 38:41Then your time waiting for them is where you will put this
- 38:47reloading A satchel actual time to reload a satchel if required
- 38:51for multiple dismount deliveries.
- 38:53I know I've heard of a couple rule routes that are actually
- 38:58walking routes and so they really heavily need that
- 39:02reloading satchel time. If management has limited how
- 39:07many authorized dismounts you have and they are requiring you
- 39:10to use a satchel and they want you to reload it for you to do
- 39:14this sort of thing, that's where this would come into to play non
- 39:20personnel unit and PU time. Those carriers who serve a non
- 39:24personnel rule unit receive a minimum allowance a 15 minutes
- 39:28daily for each unit served. So if you are a rule carrier
- 39:33who's delivering to a non personnel rule unit and there is
- 39:40extra time that you are needed to do certain items there,
- 39:44that's where you would have this located at.
- 39:49Now on the bottom of this it will say other daily or weekly
- 39:53reoccurring activities. So these items must be approved
- 39:59by the rule district DSS delivery support specialist and
- 40:05an explanation must be entered. So for example time associated
- 40:10with end of shift activities not completed for the prior day.
- 40:15There is also things where like. Train time, that's a big one
- 40:23that's on here. The union has Step 4 settlements
- 40:26regarding the train time. The rule DSS will actually look
- 40:32at your route to see if if you've consistently had it and
- 40:37if you have train tracks on your route.
- 40:39You know, that's that's my biggest one that I will usually
- 40:42have. Another thing is that I don't
- 40:47see on the sheet this time, which is interesting is if if
- 40:52you have like a key card entry to a location or you have to
- 40:57enter into a keypad to access a certain building.
- 41:02Those things would be miscellaneous activities that
- 41:07and, and typically what they're going to do is they're just
- 41:10trying to make sure that there is no other RX area that is
- 41:14accounting for these activities that you're doing on a daily or
- 41:19weekly basis. If it's something that's random
- 41:22out of the ordinary, it might not end up being here.
- 41:27It might be something that could be considered 8127 time.
- 41:31It just depends upon the circumstances.
- 41:34But I hope that that kind of gave you a generalized thing of
- 41:39the things that I know I've personally seen become
- 41:42miscellaneous. Other examples would be if you
- 41:47go to a business and have to ring the bell.
- 41:50Yeah, extra time dismount. For them to answer the door if
- 41:54you have to ride an elevator to get to this business, a
- 41:59particular business, we on a daily or weekly occurrence.
- 42:05If you have to wait for a security guard or a gate check
- 42:08in to enter into like a like a gated business area, you know
- 42:15there's certain things that that would qualify.
- 42:21Right. Or in a gated community, if you
- 42:24have to wait for the gate to open, yes, to be able to pass
- 42:27through that, that minimum amount of, you know, whatever
- 42:30amount of time you know, 10/20/30 seconds for the gate to
- 42:34open for you to be able to drive through.
- 42:38So then so again, management should be entering these these
- 42:44this data into the to RMSS daily.
- 42:48The other thing that management has the ability to do if you
- 42:51have a high option, I'm just going to say this right now
- 42:54before I even get to this form for the end management has the
- 42:58ability right now for them to check mark if you want high
- 43:02option or if you don't. And granted, they're going to
- 43:06want you to sign the Saint the 4241 at the end of the mini mail
- 43:11survey, but typically the managers forget that they have
- 43:16to choose inside of RMSS high option, yes or no.
- 43:20So just make sure if you're somebody who is wanting high
- 43:25option that you watch management toggle the thing in RMSS.
- 43:31And I would ask them to show you it just so that you have Peace
- 43:34of Mind because every single mini mail survey I've seen it
- 43:38where one person did not get high option.
- 43:42And I'm so tired of management being stupid about it.
- 43:46So just going to say that before I say the end of this.
- 43:49So at the end of the mini mail survey, there's going to be APS
- 43:54Form 4241 that you are going to receive and you should be
- 43:58receiving it every single day because it'll show you
- 44:01management actually entering the volume into the computer.
- 44:05If management is just handing you the sheet with it just being
- 44:09hand wrote on there, do not trust that management has not
- 44:13entered it into the computer. So it will show you each date,
- 44:18it'll show you the letter size manual pieces, flat size manual
- 44:22pieces. And then it'll have the
- 44:23miscellaneous activity, actual time and it'll say total in
- 44:28minutes and seconds. And then it'll have the total on
- 44:31the bottom of the entire thing. And then complete the following
- 44:37information on the last day of the mini mail survey.
- 44:40It'll say high option yes or no. And then it'll have like the
- 44:44disclaimer about article 9.2 dot C .7 dot a of the national
- 44:50agreement for the leave commitment if you're wanting to
- 44:53choose the high option. And then on the bottom of it,
- 44:58there is another square that says survey data certified to be
- 45:02correct. And it's you, the carrier
- 45:05signing it and you putting the date and then the manager
- 45:08signing it and then putting the date.
- 45:10Now I know a lot of people will go, I don't want to sign that.
- 45:14I don't want to sign that. You are just signing that.
- 45:18The information and the data that was collected during this
- 45:22mini mail survey on this sheet of paper is correct.
- 45:27It's not saying you agree with RX, it's not saying anything
- 45:31along those lines. But if a manager just entered a
- 45:34bunch of big fat zeros and then they brought you this form and
- 45:38said sign this, you are not certifying it to be correct.
- 45:42So I would not sign it then and I would and then management can
- 45:46write refuse to sign and then you go through the dispute
- 45:49process and there's all that. So that's your choice of whether
- 45:54or not you sign that form. I usually do and I will tell
- 45:58management I'm not signing it until you correct this date
- 46:02because there'll there'll be like 1 date where they forgot to
- 46:06enter something you know. So it's on you as the carrier to
- 46:11verify these numbers. I would recommend if because
- 46:16management should be supplying you with the summary of your
- 46:21totals on a daily basis, that you should be keeping track and
- 46:27going through and correcting these things as you go.
- 46:31So again, the carrier may count their own mail as a verification
- 46:38of management's counts, and there's no additional
- 46:41compensation for rule carriers doing that.
- 46:44Sadly, management the if you are a regular carrier, you can also
- 46:52come in and observe the survey, but you will not be compensated
- 46:57for any of it and you cannot touch any mail.
- 47:00You can just sit there as an observer.
- 47:02You can't manage or do anything along those lines.
- 47:10Again, the credit for random letters is 1 for every 4.
- 47:17We should also like come Friday. I know in the old mail count
- 47:22system people used to freak out because they're like the plant
- 47:26is holding all the mail back. I as a rule carrier, whenever
- 47:31it's like right before a mini mail survey and even in the old
- 47:34mail count I used to do this is I would walk around the hot case
- 47:39just to see what was there. And if management is curtailing.
- 47:45If if you're going into the mini mail survey clean like they they
- 47:50made sure there was no mail left from Friday, then that means the
- 47:55last Friday of the mini mail survey we go out clean, you go
- 47:58in clean, you come out cleaned. The normal flow of mail should
- 48:03be insured. No extra effort to clear out
- 48:06mail before count. No curtailment of cork hours on
- 48:09the last day of the count of the survey and the Mailer requested
- 48:15delivery date should always be honored.
- 48:20And trying to think of what else on here that was about the
- 48:25withdrawal and it's on management to meet with each
- 48:32carrier just to discuss if if you want the high or the low
- 48:37option. I know a lot of the managers
- 48:40are, I don't want to say Stoop, but they are.
- 48:43They don't understand the difference between a high and
- 48:45low option. So the high option is higher pay
- 48:48but less time off. So it's a high J or a high H
- 48:53route. A low option is lower pay but
- 48:55more time off, which is AK or a lower J route.
- 48:59And you have to have 10 years from your retirement computation
- 49:03date in order to qualify for that.
- 49:06I still have two more years until I qualify for that and
- 49:11there's. Some routes just need it.
- 49:14Yeah, but I but. There's they still have 7 1/2
- 49:18years to make that. Yeah, yeah.
- 49:22And there is some routes if you are over A43K, there is no low
- 49:29or high option, you are in the high.
- 49:32So if you're over that 43 K threshold, typically there is no
- 49:3946, excuse me, there's no 46 day option.
- 49:44Thank you. If disagreements occur and they
- 49:49cannot be resolved locally at the carrier and the manager will
- 49:52fill out the appropriate part of the dispute form.
- 49:55So if you and the manager still couldn't come to an agreement
- 49:59over an issue in the mini mail survey, you guys, you're going
- 50:02to have to end up doing a dispute over them.
- 50:06And so just keep documentation for things.
- 50:10And granted, we're not going over disputes right now, but we
- 50:15could probably do that at another time.
- 50:17But you're going to need documentation to prove what
- 50:19you're saying and why you should be getting that credit.
- 50:26And again, I just want to say like it takes all of us to make
- 50:31sure that this mini mail survey and the credit that we are owed
- 50:35is be that we're, we're receiving it.
- 50:39And like, I can stand here and preach to you all I want about
- 50:45the importance of it. But ultimately, like it's, it's
- 50:48your paycheck. And if you, you can just go
- 50:56whatever, you know, but then like you were only like 2
- 51:00minutes away from being like A44K and you have a bunch of
- 51:06zeros in your mini mail survey because you didn't care.
- 51:08Like that's going to that's, I mean, that's on you at that
- 51:12point. Like the onus is going to be on
- 51:14you. And I know a lot of people get
- 51:17frustrated that we're having these mini mail surveys twice a
- 51:20year. But it is important for us to
- 51:23make sure that we are capturing the the little bit of mail that
- 51:26is not on automation and these miscellaneous things that we are
- 51:29not getting credit for in RX for the 52 week average.
- 51:34I hope like personally that eventually, like, you know,
- 51:38there's some of the things in the in the miscellaneous time.
- 51:41I wish that there was an RX activity scan for like me
- 51:45personally like I my route is delivers to a rail yard like a
- 51:52train. There's railroad tracks and I
- 51:55get stuck by a train twice a week at minimum.
- 51:59And it just depends on the time of day and it's so sporadic.
- 52:06And like, I've even had management question like why I
- 52:11had a stationary event and I'm like, I was stuck by the train.
- 52:14Like you can literally watch me sitting there by the train
- 52:19tracks, you know, like, so I just, I wish that eventually
- 52:22with RX that there's gonna be the ability for them to, to
- 52:25update some of that technology. And, you know, maybe I, it is
- 52:33what it is now. And I think that we just have
- 52:36to, if, if you're refreshing your brain and you're
- 52:41remembering what you need to do for these mini male surveys,
- 52:44then they're not as stressful, I would say.
- 52:50But you still need to make sure that you're paying attention.
- 52:54It's a part of our jobs now and it's all of our pay so.
- 53:00And for those I. Go ahead.
- 53:03Well, I was going to segue into you.
- 53:04I would say I, I agree is a a little bit of a pain having to
- 53:08do this every six months. But I would say, for example,
- 53:11with you, Kristen, you, your office at the time got Amazon,
- 53:18would you say 224 weeks after the count ended?
- 53:24Yeah, and 20, the last actual mail count, 2018, it was two
- 53:28weeks after the mail count ended that Amazon came into the office
- 53:33and nobody got credit for that until the 1st mini mail survey
- 53:38in 2023. Right.
- 53:39So that this way it's at most six months that you're going
- 53:45without getting any credit. Yeah.
- 53:47Well, and one of the interesting things with this new, with this
- 53:53mini mail survey, and granted, we're not counting it during the
- 53:55mini mail survey, but you'll, you get to see the health of
- 54:00your route. And I, me and Josh have talked
- 54:04about this a little bit like I'm kind of a nerd on the tangible
- 54:10data collection that I can actually look at now over the
- 54:13course of the last few years for my route evaluations and seeing
- 54:18what's fluctuated in either direction.
- 54:22You know, like my parcels have gone up, I've gotten, I've
- 54:25gotten new addresses. But one of the most interesting
- 54:29things about this mini mail survey is that we just regained
- 54:36the UPS parcels again. And so that will, we saw the dip
- 54:43happen and now we've, we're going to see, I think the
- 54:45increase a little bit again. And then, you know, come, come
- 54:52time for October, then there will be that, but we'll see the,
- 55:01we'll see what the volume does in that direction, you know, or
- 55:05if you're in office, you know, I'm, there's, I know people
- 55:08complain about Amazon and stuff too, but there's some offices
- 55:11that have lost the Amazon and I, I do worry for them because I,
- 55:15you know, we as postal employees want the revenue to keep
- 55:20increasing and stuff, but. What's up?
- 55:24I don't. Oh, here, I'll come look with
- 55:25you. But that's the mini meal survey
- 55:28though. I think that's all of it.
- 55:30I think somebody made a Jacqueline on the moon there.
- 55:34Somebody made the moon on there, yeah.
- 55:37I was going to say, you know, as a way, especially for the newer
- 55:42ones that maybe haven't been through a mini meal survey or or
- 55:46whatnot, when you're counting your inverted out on the street.
- 55:51I know some use little tick marks on scrap paper.
- 55:55I have a tap counter app on my phone.
- 55:59So every time I get an inverted, as you know, I put it in the
- 56:03mailbox, I tap my phone and for however many that way, I have
- 56:07that number, divide it by 4 when I get back.
- 56:11So, you know, those are just kind of little extra tool hints
- 56:14to, you know, trying to keep. Specially of.
- 56:17The inverted if you don't case you're DPS, you take DPS to the
- 56:20street. Counting those inverted a tap
- 56:23counter is a great is a great tool to use.
- 56:27Or like I said, using little hash marks on a piece of scrap
- 56:30paper or something like that notebook.
- 56:33I do. I do a little tick marks on the
- 56:36back of A tag from the DPS tray. I knew someone that actually had
- 56:42a counter. You know, the hand we with a,
- 56:45you know, we put it on the back of their finger, you know, on
- 56:48the one hand and just click every time they had it.
- 56:51Yep. Yeah, I tried using one of those
- 56:55the the counter, the clickers or as an app.
- 56:59I just couldn't get into, you know, It wasn't for me.
- 57:03No, you know not. For everybody and I prefer it
- 57:07because back I have two of them actually because my RCA days
- 57:11would if I be running docs route with a regular route, that way I
- 57:15could just flip to the other counter for the other row.
- 57:19So, but right, yeah. Yeah, you just have to.
- 57:23Figure out, yeah, what works best for you, whether it's a
- 57:26hash mark on a piece of prep paper, an app, a handheld
- 57:31clicker, you know, anything like that will definitely help you
- 57:35out. Yeah, I'm somebody who takes my
- 57:37DPS to the street and I figured out that I needed to sit with
- 57:44the tray of DPS before I go to the street and count my upside
- 57:47downs. Otherwise I will not do it.
- 57:49And I'll get like really angry. So I just do it automatically
- 57:54like in the beginning. But I don't know, we'll see.
- 57:57Sometimes I, I like the first couple days of the survey.
- 58:00I, I figure out something that works, but then, you know, it
- 58:03just depends on, on my mood, I guess.
- 58:07The other thing that you could do, and I've been debating if I
- 58:10wanted to do this, the mini mail during what is it on the union
- 58:16website, they have a thing that's you can do a test of your
- 58:21coverage factor percentage. And I've debated doing it during
- 58:27the mini mail survey just so if I wanted to dispute my coverage
- 58:32factor, then I have actual data to back it up.
- 58:36But that's kind of a a side quest mission there.
- 58:42Yeah, I would totally think about doing that too if I was
- 58:45working my K days. But as of right now, I'm, you
- 58:49know, I'm off. And so if it was to a point to
- 58:53where, you know, they need to work The Saturdays, that's fine.
- 58:56But with everything going on in my life right now, I'm
- 59:00fortunately I'm not going to do it this time around.
- 59:03Yeah, yeah. And I think that if I like, I'm
- 59:06on a growth route and I granted this last survey I went down,
- 59:10which I was very upset about. But if I wasn't and I was
- 59:15concerned about different things in my evaluation, then maybe I
- 59:20would. But I mean, like my personal
- 59:24opinion honestly, is that the I don't like the coverage factor.
- 59:28I think it's fair for the curbside boxes, but I think
- 59:31we're getting screwed over on the CB us and the set those
- 59:35those, But that's a whole other that's a whole other rant
- 59:38conversation. I could go on right now, but.
- 59:41Yes. Yeah, so but.
- 59:45All right, covered that. You want to cover the other
- 59:48things real quick. They should be quick.
- 59:50Yeah, so there was a, there's been floating around for a
- 59:55couple weeks now. There was an MOU that was signed
- 1:00:00by the Postal Service and by the NRLCA about having rule carriers
- 1:00:06in South Carolina test doing a doing the census.
- 1:00:13Which I thought was very interesting.
- 1:00:17I know that there's been a lot of mixed feelings about it.
- 1:00:21People that were like, I don't want to have to do the census,
- 1:00:26but like me personally, like the way that that MOU was drafted,
- 1:00:33if you've seen it, it's very much in the carrier's favor
- 1:00:37other than the working from home portion.
- 1:00:39I did not like that, but the rest of it seemed to be more in
- 1:00:46our favor. And you know, given the
- 1:00:51possibility of us losing Amazon, different things, the Postal
- 1:00:57Service in general needs to find different different revenue
- 1:01:03streams. And if, if there's a way, if
- 1:01:09that's one of those revenue streams, I mean, the, the NRLCA
- 1:01:15as a whole is the goal is for us as rule carriers to have these
- 1:01:21revenue streams. So I know there are some people
- 1:01:26who are like very skeptical about it.
- 1:01:28And I, I understand the skepticism of it.
- 1:01:31It's unknown. We don't know what's really
- 1:01:34going on with it. It's just a test for right now,
- 1:01:39but I mean it, it's only a test for now and granted it wouldn't
- 1:01:47be like an RX and stuff too. But I, I just wanted to read
- 1:01:52this little bit because I think a lot of people forget this,
- 1:01:57that the NRLCA constitution under purpose.
- 1:02:01The Association is established upon the long recognized need of
- 1:02:05roll letter carriers to organize and create a united force,
- 1:02:08advance the interests of all members, ensure job security,
- 1:02:12enhance opportunities, and assure our full share in the
- 1:02:15success of the United States Postal Service to which we
- 1:02:19contribute so substantially. The Association self seek, with
- 1:02:22all of its resources at its command, to assist its members
- 1:02:26and the realization of their highest aspirations as workers
- 1:02:30and as citizens. Such aspirations are a right and
- 1:02:34shall be protected against all threats.
- 1:02:35In God we trust, the Association is dedicated to the discharge of
- 1:02:39its responsibilities and the achievement of its objectives in
- 1:02:44accordance with the democratic principles embodied in this
- 1:02:46Constitution. The object of the Association
- 1:02:50shall be to improve conditions of Labor with the United States
- 1:02:55Postal Service, advance, advance the methods used by roll letter
- 1:02:59carriers, and promote fraternal spirit among members.
- 1:03:02This Association shall not affiliate or merge with any
- 1:03:05other organization or group without a majority vote of the
- 1:03:10delegates at a National Convention.
- 1:03:12Now, I'm the reason I'm saying that is that MOU for rule
- 1:03:18carriers doing the census falls in line with that.
- 1:03:25So if the, if the test works out, hopefully we get
- 1:03:29compensated for it. I'm, I'm sure we probably will,
- 1:03:34but we'll, we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
- 1:03:36Do you have anything you want to add on it?
- 1:03:39Did I lose you guys? No, no, I'm here, OK.
- 1:03:43And you know, I am. I'm kind of along with you with
- 1:03:45that too. I mean, it's we don't know.
- 1:03:48Again, it's a test. It's a test in one specific
- 1:03:51location, just to test it out to see if it's something that's
- 1:03:55gonna be feasible, maybe, and if it's even gonna be worth rolling
- 1:03:59out across the board. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:04:03You know, and so we'll see how it.
- 1:04:05I would say as you mentioned in regards to the you not liking
- 1:04:10the fact of working from home, but in that Mou it specifically
- 1:04:15stated that they're still working out how that
- 1:04:18compensation would be for to work at home.
- 1:04:21Yeah, exactly. So that's already something
- 1:04:25that's been taken in consideration and they're trying
- 1:04:28to work that out on how they're going to compensate those
- 1:04:31carriers work. Exactly, yeah.
- 1:04:34And I think the other thing that's in the favor with it is
- 1:04:38it's just another shield against privatization of the Postal
- 1:04:42Service. So it's it's honestly, I know
- 1:04:47people don't won't necessarily like doing it, but like it's
- 1:04:52it's it really is honestly our favor.
- 1:04:54So we'll see what happens with it.
- 1:04:56I'm kind of interested to, it was a little fluke thing.
- 1:05:00I've actually never seen an MOU that was as pro carrier, you
- 1:05:06know, like if they're like all 8127 time making sure we're
- 1:05:13getting compensated even if you have to go do additional fill
- 1:05:16UPS on your vehicle. I thought that was pretty, it
- 1:05:21was pretty detailed in it. So the second thing was that
- 1:05:27there is a test that's going on that they are testing whether or
- 1:05:33not they're going to start rolling out the scanners to take
- 1:05:39pictures of the parcels when we're where we're delivering
- 1:05:43them at front doors. And there was a stand up talk
- 1:05:48that was given and it the the scanner actually it will
- 1:05:54automatically photo capture for parcels delivered to front door
- 1:05:59or porch and delivered to garage or other location and address
- 1:06:03scans. And I think front desk reception
- 1:06:05was the other one and it's just another customer service sort of
- 1:06:10thing. It's something that FedEx and
- 1:06:15Amazon already do. I was just going to say every
- 1:06:19every other delivery service including DoorDash does it.
- 1:06:25And the scanner has the ability to to do that.
- 1:06:27I know some people are already paranoid with the scanner as it
- 1:06:31is. I mean, our phones are always
- 1:06:35listening to us. The scanner's probably listening
- 1:06:36to us, you know, all kinds of things, right?
- 1:06:39But the only thing that I there is offices that are in each area
- 1:06:44of the country that are testing this out.
- 1:06:47And so what'll happen is that when you scan the parcel and you
- 1:06:50hit delivered and you notate delivered to front door or to
- 1:06:58garage or other location at address and then you hit the zip
- 1:07:02code. After you hit the zip code
- 1:07:04enter, it will have a proof of delivery feature.
- 1:07:08Launch up on the on the scanner and it'll have a camera mode and
- 1:07:12then a new 3 second countdown timer will start automatically.
- 1:07:17To capture photo of package location, perform one of the
- 1:07:20following. Before countdown has elapsed,
- 1:07:23wait for automatic capture 2. Tap camera shutter button on
- 1:07:28screen or three, press either side buttons, black enter button
- 1:07:33or yellow scan button. After the countdown finishes,
- 1:07:37the camera pauses and displays a message.
- 1:07:40Please keep steady and wait for the image to be saved to ensure
- 1:07:43a stable final capture. User is unable to retake or
- 1:07:48review photo on the device once the capture is completed and
- 1:07:51then it'll have the information recorded successfully.
- 1:07:55Display briefly after processing and then returns to the scan
- 1:07:58barcode menu. The captured photo will be
- 1:08:01uploaded to rims in real time. So then when management's doing
- 1:08:07the customer three 60s, they'll be able to, I'm assuming.
- 1:08:12And when they're pulling up rims, they'll be able to see the
- 1:08:15the photo location of where the parcel was delivered.
- 1:08:18And so if there's any issues in those terms, management can be
- 1:08:23like, we'll see like it was. You see the picture there, you
- 1:08:27know, is that not your porch or those sorts of things?
- 1:08:31My only issue that I personally like and I think is, is an issue
- 1:08:39is that in RX we are only given a certain amount of credit for
- 1:08:43that front door or a garage or other location at address scan.
- 1:08:50And I it in these offices that are doing these tests, they
- 1:08:57should be asking for 8127 time for these parcels.
- 1:09:01And I don't necessarily know how I I haven't done it, but it's
- 1:09:08the way that it's looking to me is 3 seconds minimum for each of
- 1:09:12those front door parcel scans. But it, but it's looking like it
- 1:09:16might be like, you know, there's a three second countdown, but
- 1:09:20then there's more seconds after that for you to wait for the
- 1:09:24camera to take the picture. So there's, you know, there's
- 1:09:31different factors that are in there.
- 1:09:32And I hope that the Postal Service and the union come to an
- 1:09:36agreement before the if and I'm, I'm assuming that they're going
- 1:09:39to roll this out nationally, but I, I hope that they come to an
- 1:09:44agreement before it's rolled out nationally and that this credit
- 1:09:49is given to the routes because we're going to be owed.
- 1:09:52It's not going to be a lot of time, but it could add like a
- 1:09:55couple minutes to a route, Especially like if you're
- 1:09:58delivering a bunch of parcels to, you know, garages and, and
- 1:10:03businesses and those sorts of things.
- 1:10:05If you have a lot of front door deliveries, then it, it could
- 1:10:10increase things. So Oh yeah, definitely you.
- 1:10:12Could see whatever time standard that they're going to affix to
- 1:10:17taking the picture would be put into your parcel time.
- 1:10:22Yeah, yeah. And it's really interesting
- 1:10:24because since the roll out of RX, we really haven't had
- 1:10:30anything other than the pars labels changed.
- 1:10:34There hasn't been any really significant things in, in that
- 1:10:38regard. This is the first inclination of
- 1:10:43something that could potentially change the time standard of
- 1:10:47something so of an item. So we'll see hopefully.
- 1:10:52Come on. So if you're listening, Postal
- 1:10:54Service in the union come to an agreement now before it gets
- 1:10:58rolled out. Yeah, I could really see this is
- 1:11:02something that may roll out, you know, across the country where
- 1:11:06is, you know, the going back to the previous one with the
- 1:11:11census. We don't know.
- 1:11:13That's why it's only one location that's testing it out
- 1:11:16right now. That may not be worth going
- 1:11:18across out, but I could definitely, you know, keeping up
- 1:11:22with the times today that we'll be doing the photos and, you
- 1:11:29know, eventually the customers will get it on their receiving
- 1:11:32end too. I could see that tying into the
- 1:11:35informed deliveries section. Yep.
- 1:11:38Yeah. Completely.
- 1:11:40I mean, you already get text messages when it's been
- 1:11:42delivered if you choose to or emails and something's delivered
- 1:11:46to, you know, Hey, that was coming through the post office.
- 1:11:50So what's one more of looking at?
- 1:11:52Oh, there's Yep, that's my porch.
- 1:11:55I mean, I many people I know across the social webs, Hey,
- 1:11:59anybody recognize this porch because FedEx or Amazon must
- 1:12:03delivered something. You know, I'm looking for my
- 1:12:05package that it was delivered here.
- 1:12:06That's not my door, you know that that's the worst thing I'd
- 1:12:12hate to see for any of us to happen.
- 1:12:15But I mean, that's eventually what could happen with the photo
- 1:12:20rollout. But we all knew that may
- 1:12:21eventually be coming anyway. Is it wasn't.
- 1:12:24Then the blue I had a service talk.
- 1:12:26Ability as well. Was that?
- 1:12:28I think so. I said I think the blue brick
- 1:12:31scanners had photo capability as well.
- 1:12:35Camera building. I'd have to look at 1:00
- 1:12:39tomorrow. Yeah.
- 1:12:40Or Friday. I could be wrong but.
- 1:12:42If they actually had a camera. But yeah, these both have front
- 1:12:46and rear facing cameras. Yeah.
- 1:12:48So but yeah, it's we got you know, I can remember a year ago
- 1:12:53during a service talk, this is 1 supervisor said it was coming,
- 1:12:58taking the pictures I'll be delivered back as this.
- 1:13:03Yeah. It's been, you know, going
- 1:13:04around for quite a long time. But now it's finally into the
- 1:13:09testing phases because I think that was one of the things that
- 1:13:11they did bring up when they introduced the the the scanners
- 1:13:14that we have now was the fact that it did have photo
- 1:13:17capability. Yep.
- 1:13:20So let's use that photo capability, I guess.
- 1:13:22Yep, Customer, customer service, you know.
- 1:13:25Josh, you had a couple things that you want to touch on.
- 1:13:29Yeah. Let me pull them back up.
- 1:13:31What they were just looking on Facebook real quick.
- 1:13:35There were two things, two posts that I saw.
- 1:13:39One is what is the rule on posting district jobs in office?
- 1:13:44I can't find any resources. Any time there is a bid, whether
- 1:13:50it's in office or district wide, a hard copy must be posted in
- 1:13:55the office. Every single for for everyone to
- 1:14:00see. Any visible location too, not
- 1:14:03just stuck on, you know, a board somewhere where nobody walks
- 1:14:09past it. Right.
- 1:14:11Like if you have a rural board, you would hope that they would
- 1:14:15say in a service talk there was a posting up, it's on, it's
- 1:14:21going to be on the rural board notification board.
- 1:14:24But the only requirement is that it has to be posted somewhere
- 1:14:28where it's visible. The other thing was can
- 1:14:33management change your trips to door in the computer since they
- 1:14:37don't want you to have too many? No, they cannot.
- 1:14:42Local management does not have access to that.
- 1:14:46No, and you have the ability so that's why I was saying that
- 1:14:51date earlier too. So March 7th, 2025 until March
- 1:14:576th 2026. If you want to, you can ask
- 1:15:02management to provide you with all of your activity RX scans
- 1:15:07from the last year and you can look at it.
- 1:15:10I periodically go and look at mine just to make sure, you
- 1:15:15know, just for Peace of Mind. It's a part of us verifying that
- 1:15:19data. And I know, and I'm saying this
- 1:15:23as somebody who has, I have anxiety and there are certain
- 1:15:28things with RX that I also get anxious about.
- 1:15:32And so you can only control the actions that you do and you
- 1:15:38taking control of it and you going to management and show and
- 1:15:42being like, please show me my RX scans just for your own Peace of
- 1:15:47Mind, you know, do it, You have the ability to do it.
- 1:15:51It's you just, it's just a part of the, the process of us being
- 1:15:57diligent with it. There was a period of time where
- 1:16:03management was testing the ability to edit the RX activity
- 1:16:09scams and but then they disabled it on the local level.
- 1:16:13They didn't roll it out nationally.
- 1:16:15Thank goodness. Yes, yeah.
- 1:16:19And we we have talked about that before where you know, where you
- 1:16:24Kristen have said I could see if.
- 1:16:28Hey, Mr. Supervisor, I just want to let you know, at 123 Main St.
- 1:16:34I accidentally hit 6 instead of three trips to door.
- 1:16:39So they could go in and correct that.
- 1:16:42But then there was the, you know, on the flip side of that
- 1:16:45with the issue of in the case of this post, where can they, you
- 1:16:50know, can they do that and take them away because they think you
- 1:16:52have too many? Yep, and and you know that
- 1:16:55feature was disabled on the local level.
- 1:16:58So no, the only thing that they can go in and change is your
- 1:17:02time inputs for clock in. The 6th.
- 1:17:06Yeah, Yep. The six entries that are on your
- 1:17:094240. Yeah, your, your, yeah, your,
- 1:17:13your times, times. That's the only thing that they
- 1:17:15can go into a job. All right, guys, that was a
- 1:17:18whole lot for. Yes, it was.
- 1:17:21It was. But it was, but hey, we we owed
- 1:17:24it to him because it's been a couple weeks, so.
- 1:17:28Yeah, and then yeah, definitely yeah.
- 1:17:31And share this with if you're if you're a newer sub or share this
- 1:17:37with your your Co workers so that it's just a refresher for
- 1:17:41the mini mail survey. And I'm hopeful that like I mean
- 1:17:46this this is going to be a resource for you to use to re
- 1:17:49listen to for the next few years.
- 1:17:52I mean, I've done different other ones too.
- 1:17:55And I, I've even taken notes for my own self about the mini meal
- 1:17:58survey and, or they're not going to go away.
- 1:18:01So just if once you get some of this stuff embedded into your
- 1:18:05head, it's good to have a little bit of a refresher and get back
- 1:18:09into that mindset for that. And but look out for, you know,
- 1:18:15if you see a new sub in your office, please like encourage
- 1:18:19them and show them and just talk to them a little bit too.
- 1:18:24If you've seen somebody struggling with the mini mail
- 1:18:27survey, sometimes people walk in on that first day and forget all
- 1:18:31the way about it and just be like remind people just we all
- 1:18:35gotta look out for each other and.
- 1:18:39Well like I think in discord this past week someone said it's
- 1:18:44it's time to start counting the errors just to get in the habit
- 1:18:47of doing it. Man I really wish today's DPS
- 1:18:51was part of the mini mail survey.
- 1:19:00I pulled 30 missed cents before I even left the office because
- 1:19:04of where they were stuck in the back of my DPS trays.
- 1:19:08Yeah. You know, stuff like that is I
- 1:19:12always complain when water bills come in raw or, you know, you
- 1:19:16get the progressive and Liberty Mutual like today that they send
- 1:19:19them out to people who aren't even alive anymore, haven't
- 1:19:22lived there in decades. And and you know, you're
- 1:19:26bringing all that back. And it's like, you know, there's
- 1:19:29only four weeks a year where I really don't complain about it.
- 1:19:33Yep, I might not. Not happy.
- 1:19:39I may not like it while it's happening, but I'm not going to
- 1:19:42complain about it for those two weeks.
- 1:19:44Yep, 4 weeks out of the year that I I don't complain about
- 1:19:48it, but I may grumble underneath my breath because it's a pain in
- 1:19:52the butt anyway. But general, yeah.
- 1:19:55So that starts Saturday guys for this round.
- 1:19:59Fun to see what happens. Curious.
- 1:20:02Yeah, what what Meow was talking about with asking for a copy of
- 1:20:07your activity scans? That'll give you a clue.
- 1:20:10And if you know if your knee replacements are doing scans
- 1:20:15accordingly as well. Yes they will and you can also
- 1:20:20ask management to get you the radar report for the last year
- 1:20:23too and radar results. Are still supposed to be posted
- 1:20:26daily. Every single day.
- 1:20:28They are. Didn't tell you the last time I
- 1:20:34saw one posted. Oh wait, I think it was the last
- 1:20:36mini mail survey. I did get some some printed out,
- 1:20:43but no one. I still can't get anyone to tell
- 1:20:46me where they're supposed to be posted in the office.
- 1:20:50I gotcha. All right, guys.
- 1:20:53Gosh, your final words for this evening.
- 1:20:58Just the weather's starting to change again, so dress in
- 1:21:04layers, hydrate, be safe out there, especially with the the
- 1:21:10mini survey coming up. Don't get overwhelmed.
- 1:21:13If you do take a step back, take a deep breath and step back in.
- 1:21:19Have a good week. We'll see you next time, meow.
- 1:21:22Well thank you guys, it was good to chat with y'all.
- 1:21:27I hope this helps people's if you do end up getting
- 1:21:32overwhelmed, especially with the mini mail survey coming up
- 1:21:35again, the phone number for the employee assistance program is
- 1:21:411-800-327-4968 and that's 800 EAP the #4YO U.
- 1:21:51And they can help you or anybody in your household if you're
- 1:21:55needing any extra assistance with any of that.
- 1:21:59I'm going to leave you with a little bit of a weird disclaimer
- 1:22:02today too. There's a lot of really bad,
- 1:22:07I've noticed an uptick in AI rule carrier answers on the
- 1:22:13Internet. Please do not rely on Google
- 1:22:20Gemini to answer a rule carrier complexity question.
- 1:22:26Please download the NRLCA app, find your or go to thenrlca.org.
- 1:22:35Locate your union steward. Just familiarize yourself with
- 1:22:41who your union steward is and the people who are the officers
- 1:22:47of your state and educate yourself in the constructive way
- 1:22:53versus using AI. Because AI may be OK for some
- 1:23:00images and stuff, but I'm sorry but Google Gemini AI is not
- 1:23:07going to tell you how 8127 time and RX complexities are for your
- 1:23:15rural carrier salary on your pay stub.
- 1:23:18So Siri Siri's not going to know either.
- 1:23:23AI in general so I it can be good for a couple things, but
- 1:23:31that is not one of them. So please just keep that in
- 1:23:35mind. So and.
- 1:23:36That's one of the reasons why I turned off the AI bot and the
- 1:23:40Facebook group too. I never even activated it.
- 1:23:43Like Nope, don't want this. It is, yeah.
- 1:23:47It is not jolly. So just look out for each other
- 1:23:53guys. And I hope you guys all have a
- 1:23:55good and safe week. And oh, oh, and I'm going to say
- 1:24:01this the next pay stub, the next paycheck we get February 27th
- 1:24:07are it's supposed to have our back pay on it.
- 1:24:09So if anybody else asking, I've had it, I don't know how many
- 1:24:13times I've said it today to different people, February 27th
- 1:24:17will carry your back pay. So on that note, all right,
- 1:24:20Kristen. Thank you.
- 1:24:22And on that rule, carrier back pay, everybody's back pay is
- 1:24:27going to be different because it's going to vary between how
- 1:24:31many hours you've worked and if you were doing OT or deck of
- 1:24:36fives, deck of threes, whatever. Stepping 3 is, you know, all
- 1:24:42the. Changing of routes, changing of
- 1:24:44eval. Yes, all that is, is is a
- 1:24:48variable for leave replacements. It's going to be based on how
- 1:24:52many hours that you worked when you started.
- 1:24:55If it was, you know, during, if you, if you are no longer with
- 1:25:00us and you, you know, you could still be getting a back paycheck
- 1:25:05if you worked in the times where it was.
- 1:25:08The amount is supposed to be calculated between those dates.
- 1:25:11So yes, the the the variables are going to vary differently
- 1:25:16for every single carrier. So there is not a set amount of
- 1:25:21back pay. It's not a lump sum based off of
- 1:25:25this figure. It's going to vary for every
- 1:25:28single world carrier. Leave replacement and that would
- 1:25:31be that would be any increase from May 2020 first 2025 until
- 1:25:43I'm sorry 2024 until when was that June or July?
- 1:25:49It would be when. The 2020.
- 1:25:51Took effect it. Would be when the.
- 1:25:53Well, it's the same effect. Any increases from the date of
- 1:25:57the increase between the end of May of 2024 until they signed
- 1:26:05it, which was and I know I just saw the date it's recently.
- 1:26:10You need to pull out the. July of 2025.
- 1:26:15Yes, pull out the contract, the new one 'cause you're gonna be
- 1:26:19getting and you need to look at the articles that have the new
- 1:26:24contractual increases and the new COLA increases and determine
- 1:26:30the dates from that. And Google AI or any or Siri or
- 1:26:36any sort of AI is not going to be able to calculate your back
- 1:26:40pay for you either. So no, it's not.
- 1:26:44So what do we get out there? There is no one answer for how
- 1:26:51much back pay is going to be because it's going to vary on
- 1:26:55step increases and any overtime that you may have worked.
- 1:27:00Our CAS is going to vary on your hours that you worked and all
- 1:27:05that stuff. So there is no simple answer to
- 1:27:08how much back pay is going to be plain and simple.
- 1:27:12OK, Because I see that all the time.
- 1:27:17And it's just like, Oh, my back pay will not be the same as
- 1:27:22Meow's back pay, which will not be the same as Josh's back pay
- 1:27:26because number one, Josh is on Table 1 and Meow and I are on
- 1:27:32totally different steps. And yeah, it, it, it's going to
- 1:27:36be completely different based completely based on the carrier.
- 1:27:39So, and that note, I want to thank you guys for taking up
- 1:27:46your evening this evening. I know it's getting kind of late
- 1:27:48for us on the Eastern Time zone, but I appreciate it.
- 1:27:53I appreciate everybody's patience is episodes are going
- 1:27:56to be a little sporadic for the unforeseeable future is my life.
- 1:28:01Is. Took a turn that I was not
- 1:28:03expecting it to turn, but you know I.
- 1:28:07I wouldn't say. Go ahead, Josh.
- 1:28:09Obviously the only other thing I would add is and after the back
- 1:28:16pay, the COLA I believe was announced to be about $250 which
- 1:28:23is what you'll get on table one or step 12 of Table 2 and then
- 1:28:30it's per rated down from there. Step 15 of Table 2.
- 1:28:35Oh, I forgot it was 15 steps, I apologize.
- 1:28:38Yes. So, so those of us who are, you
- 1:28:41know, step threes, we're going to see, you know, 50 bucks but
- 1:28:48on table too. So yeah, you know, colas are
- 1:28:52coming out eventually. But remember, that's not a lump
- 1:28:54sum payment that rolls into your salary for the year.
- 1:28:58So you may notice a little bit of an increase or you may not.
- 1:29:02It just depends on, you know, the table and the stuff on table
- 1:29:06too that you're on. So not going to go into a lot of
- 1:29:09detail on that. One is go there.
- 1:29:12I'm going to wind down for today, but you know, again, I
- 1:29:15want to thank everybody for their patience, the sporadic
- 1:29:18episodes and I appreciate everybody.
- 1:29:21I've gotten cards from a few people out there and I, you
- 1:29:24know, thank you greatly, really appreciate it.
- 1:29:27It's definitely not an easy time right now and my life just I
- 1:29:33don't know, I'm, I'm plugging away.
- 1:29:34I, I have some personal time coming up, which I'm so looking
- 1:29:37forward to, but yeah, a rough time right now, but we're,
- 1:29:43we're, we're pushing through. So on that note, guys, yeah,
- 1:29:46this weather's been crazy. I mean, just today alone, I had
- 1:29:49rain, sleet and snow and yeah, so it'd be safe out there.
- 1:29:56As you know, Mother Nature again, can't make up her mind.
- 1:29:59What she wants to do is we're getting closer to springtime and
- 1:30:04you know, make sure when you're doing your mapping this month
- 1:30:06that you're, your IS crossing your T's, double checking all
- 1:30:10your pinpoints, your, your traffic control points, you
- 1:30:13know, all that good stuff sitting down and actually doing
- 1:30:16the mapping. Don't let management get away
- 1:30:18with not mapping with you. That is your pay.
- 1:30:20I mean, mapping is a big, big part of your pay.
- 1:30:24And I'm still seeing our offices saying, well, we haven't
- 1:30:27carriers haven't mapped since we first did it.
- 1:30:29Excuse me, you know that that that's huge.
- 1:30:34And if you're having issues with getting mapping done, please
- 1:30:37reach out to your DRS Go all the way up to your DRS.
- 1:30:40If you're not getting mapping done in your office, management
- 1:30:43tends to try and go in and Willy nilly.
- 1:30:45So they're off somebody's list, but you, the carrier, are
- 1:30:49supposed to be there every month with them.
- 1:30:51So and that's important and stay safe guys, always stay hydrated.
- 1:30:57And we will be back the next time when, I don't know, but you
- 1:31:04know, the episode will pop up and we'll get you.
- 1:31:07We'll get it out to you. But we can't and.
- 1:31:11We will try and give you advance notice if we will be on the
- 1:31:14stage. Yes, so these middle, you know,
- 1:31:18middle of the week stuff we're not going to do live.
- 1:31:21We're just that way we can just put it out and, you know, try to
- 1:31:25keep up. I know Meow and I still have to
- 1:31:28work on our history of the NRLCA series.
- 1:31:33Yes. Yes, yes.
- 1:31:35So I still, I really, really want to do that soon.
- 1:31:39So I guess I could take my history and stuff and when I'm
- 1:31:42do my research when I'm in my mother company, so.
- 1:31:47Yes, it would be a good little project for you too.
- 1:31:50Yes, yes. And I was going to.
- 1:31:54Bed I'm. Trying to get to bed at decent
- 1:31:56times because now that I've been home again for a couple days,
- 1:32:00I've been getting phone calls in the middle of the night.
- 1:32:02And, you know, when I'm staying at her house, I'm, you know, I,
- 1:32:07I'm laying in bed with, you know, sharing a bed with my mom
- 1:32:09because she's just, you know, they were married 51 years.
- 1:32:13Not quite almost. It was 51 on the anniversary was
- 1:32:17Sunday. And, you know, dad's birthday's
- 1:32:19coming up April 4th. So it would have been my dad's
- 1:32:2875th birthday. So yeah, I'm looking forward to
- 1:32:31see what the Minnie Mouse survey does for me on that day.
- 1:32:35But guys, you know, stay safe, stay vigilant, and we'll be back
- 1:32:42when we get a chance to hop on together again.
- 1:32:44So take care, everybody.
