- Lucas: Luna, welcome back to Learn Amharic with Fexingo. Ready for another tiny lesson? Luna: Yes, I am! And I'm a little thirsty, actually. Can we learn some drink words today? Lucas: Great timing. We already covered coffee, tea, water, and juice. So today, let's add two more: milk and soda. Luna: Milk and soda. Perfect for hot days. Lucas: First, milk. In Amharic, milk is ወተት. Listen: ወተት. Say it with me. Luna: ወተት. Lucas: Good. A little more emphasis on the 'te' sound. ወተት. Luna: ወተት. Yeah, I think I've got it. Lucas: Now, to say 'I want milk', it's ወተት እፈልጋለሁ. Remember that from our earlier episodes? እፈልጋለሁ means 'I want'. Luna: Right, we learned that. So ወተት እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: Perfect. Now soda. In Amharic, soda is ሶዳ. Just like English, but with an Amharic accent. Listen: ሶዳ. Luna: ሶዳ. That one is easy! Lucas: Yes. And to ask 'Do you have soda?', you say ሶዳ አለ? አለ means 'is there' or 'do you have'. Try it. Luna: ሶዳ አለ? Lucas: Exactly. And if you want to say 'I want soda', it's ሶዳ እፈልጋለሁ. Luna: ሶዳ እፈልጋለሁ. So I can use that at a cafe. Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice with a little scene. Imagine we're at a small shop. I'm the shopkeeper, you're the customer. Luna: Okay. I'll start. ሶዳ አለ? Lucas: አለ. ሶዳ አለ. And I say 'አዎ, አለ' meaning 'yes, there is'. Then you can say ሶዳ እፈልጋለሁ. Luna: ሶዳ እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: Perfect. Then I hand you the soda, and you say አመሰግናለሁ, 'thank you'. Luna: አመሰግናለሁ. So now I can order milk and soda! Lucas: You can. And just like with our other drink lessons, these phrases will help you anywhere. Let's do a quick review: what's milk? Luna: ወተት. Lucas: And soda? Luna: ሶዳ. Lucas: I want milk? Luna: ወተት እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: Do you have soda? Luna: ሶዳ አለ? Lucas: Beautiful.
