- 1:09Speaker 2: let's go, let's go, let's go the story you.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Need to hear to believe.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Then grab your popcorn, because there is more. UH. The
- 1:17Speaker 2: Attorney General of Indiana is Todd Rokita. He joins us
- 1:21Speaker 2: right now. There's been a lot going on from your office,
- 1:25Speaker 2: and I want to get into some of it with you,
- 1:28Speaker 2: some of the things going on with Lily UH and
- 1:31Speaker 2: and then of course some other work. But let's start
- 1:34Speaker 2: with what you are observing and watching in Minnesota. I
- 1:38Speaker 2: know your parts of other lawsuits going on regarding UH
- 1:42Speaker 2: safety and security in every state is a border state.
- 1:45Speaker 2: But as you have seen Ice maneuvering, and you have
- 1:48Speaker 2: seen the the pushback and now the replacements of Bavino
- 1:52Speaker 2: of border patrol with Tom Homan, which doesn't seem to
- 1:55Speaker 2: me to be as big of a deal in terms
- 1:58Speaker 2: of the practicality as others. Is what is your take
- 2:01Speaker 2: on what you're witnessing from the government side and what
- 2:04Speaker 2: you're witnessing from the so called protester side.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Thanks, Tony, Well, you know, my interactions with ICE in Indiana.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Law enforcement interaction with ICE have been very very good, very.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Professional, and they're very responsive. So you know, I see
- 2:19Speaker 3: the videos that you all are seeing.
- 2:21Speaker 1: It's hard to tell.
- 2:22Speaker 3: I don't from an evidentiary standpoint, you know, I think
- 2:26Speaker 3: I should be commenting and judging on what motives were
- 2:29Speaker 3: and all that stuff, because it's just not accurate or.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Right to do. But you know, we have a standard
- 2:37Speaker 1: ground law.
- 2:38Speaker 3: The Arizona Attorney General completely misrepresented what that law is
- 2:43Speaker 3: supposed to do, especially in the states like Indiana and
- 2:46Speaker 3: Arizona at risk causing problems. There's there's been a call
- 2:53Speaker 3: for a full investigation. I think ICE wants to do that.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Homeland Security asks for that investigation. So we got to
- 2:58Speaker 3: let all that play out. But in Indiana, you know,
- 3:02Speaker 3: most of our sheriffs do a great job working with ICE.
- 3:05Speaker 3: I say sheriffs because tell me, they're the jailers and
- 3:07Speaker 3: so they're the ones that would hold an illegal alien
- 3:10Speaker 3: until federalized officials can pick them up. I do have
- 3:13Speaker 3: two lawsuits going on against sheriffs who haven't complied, and
- 3:17Speaker 3: so we have some work to do in Indiana. We
- 3:19Speaker 3: have a good sanctuary city law, it needs better enforcement
- 3:22Speaker 3: teeth by my office, and we're working in the General
- 3:25Speaker 3: Assembly with J. D. Prescott to get a good bill
- 3:27Speaker 3: done in that regard.
- 3:30Speaker 1: We also are working with J. D.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Prescott to to make sure we have better ice Titaniel
- 3:39Speaker 3: language and better enforcement authority here at the Turney General's
- 3:42Speaker 3: Office to go after aarrant businesses.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Who knowing we hire I llegal aliens.
- 3:47Speaker 3: So hopefully that moves forward, Hopefully it's not sabotaged by
- 3:50Speaker 3: some liberal Indiana senators.
- 3:52Speaker 2: But we'll see talking to Todd Raketa, Attorney General of Indiana,
- 3:58Speaker 2: and on these subject of lawsuits, there's also a lawsuit
- 4:03Speaker 2: you filed against Eli Lilly, as reported by the Indianapolis
- 4:09Speaker 2: Business journal Daniel lee A reporting it's alleging that Lily
- 4:14Speaker 2: participates in a scheme with other insulin manufacturers and pharmacy
- 4:18Speaker 2: benefit managers to inflate insulin prices. Now, the story about
- 4:22Speaker 2: PBMs pharmacy benefit managers is massive, and there's this pro
- 4:27Speaker 2: and there's this against and it's a real lobbying effort.
- 4:30Speaker 2: But what is it that the lawsuit is specifically alleging.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Yeah, Tody, So the reason this is Indiana's strategy to
- 4:41Speaker 3: go after the problems in PBM's pharmacy benefit managers. They're
- 4:45Speaker 3: the middlemen, and I believe from my experience in Congress
- 4:49Speaker 3: and in healthcare and now as Attorney General.
- 4:51Speaker 1: That they are a significant part. They're not the only.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Part of why drug prices are so high, but it's
- 4:56Speaker 3: an outdated model and there needs to be some serious
- 5:00Speaker 3: So my strategy for Indiana, rather than trying to have
- 5:03Speaker 3: Tony a jury sit through understanding all the PBMs and
- 5:08Speaker 3: all the drug formulaias and all these things that some
- 5:11Speaker 3: of the other states are trying to approach, I want
- 5:13Speaker 3: to approach it with one drug. One drug, insulin, which
- 5:17Speaker 3: is you know, very well known. It's been around for
- 5:20Speaker 3: over one hundred years. In fact, Lily is primarily responsible
- 5:24Speaker 3: for its invention and its distribution for a long time.
- 5:28Speaker 1: So we started with insulin. Two years ago.
- 5:31Speaker 3: We sued most of the industry and PBM manufacturers m
- 5:34Speaker 3: PBMs over insulin, and that suits ongoing. I particularly kept
- 5:38Speaker 3: Lily out because it's not lost on me that their hometown,
- 5:41Speaker 3: It's not lost on me how much they do for
- 5:44Speaker 3: the state. In hopes not to let them off any
- 5:46Speaker 3: kind of hook, but in hopes that they would work
- 5:48Speaker 3: with me. Well, after two years of being strung along,
- 5:50Speaker 3: that failed, and so pursue it to my promise to
- 5:55Speaker 3: them and to the people of the state of Indiana,
- 5:58Speaker 3: I now have inserted them in in the ongoing.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Two year lawsuits. So that's what that's about.
- 6:03Speaker 2: What are you are you I'm sorry to interrupt. Are
- 6:06Speaker 2: you alleging that with these pharmacy benefit managers, they're the
- 6:08Speaker 2: ones who are supposed to negotiate prices with drug manufacturers
- 6:12Speaker 2: for lower costs for everybody who is is utilizing that plan?
- 6:16Speaker 2: Is the argument that they're colluding on fixing a price?
- 6:19Speaker 2: What is the what is the argument regarding Lily or
- 6:22Speaker 2: any other company.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I don't want to use the word colluding because that's
- 6:25Speaker 1: certainly my way, but they don't. They don't.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Have you mentioned you describe it as them having our
- 6:32Speaker 3: best interests at heart, and they don't.
- 6:33Speaker 1: They have their own. And there's the conflict.
- 6:36Speaker 3: So you know, the extent they get rebates and stuff,
- 6:39Speaker 3: they pay themselves back with those rebates instead of passing
- 6:42Speaker 3: those rebate bates through to consumers. With regard to in
- 6:47Speaker 3: the insulent context, and why Lily is involved. Is because
- 6:50Speaker 3: Lily has most of the market shareman, So when the
- 6:52Speaker 3: drug has been around for like I said, one hundred years,
- 6:55Speaker 3: and it's true recently Lily dragged the rest of the
- 6:59Speaker 3: industry into reducing the insulin price. This lawsuit that I
- 7:03Speaker 3: have goes after path conduct of manufacturers like Lily. Okay, great,
- 7:07Speaker 3: you know you've been charging hundreds of dollars for it
- 7:10Speaker 3: for decades and it cost two dollars to make explain
- 7:14Speaker 3: and so that's what that lawsuit's about. But the PBMs
- 7:17Speaker 3: are not aligned with the consumer. The PBMs Tony are
- 7:19Speaker 3: aligned with themselves.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Talking to the Attorney General Todd or Okeda regarding some
- 7:26Speaker 2: actions taking place from his office and the other one
- 7:29Speaker 2: of course, as we talk about it here full disclosure,
- 7:34Speaker 2: Indiana Unclaimed is in the office of the Attorney General.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Indiana unclaims as a sponsor of WIVC and they sponsor
- 7:42Speaker 2: the marketplace some other things. People have been coming and
- 7:47Speaker 2: getting their cash. It's been a big push from your office,
- 7:51Speaker 2: Indiana Unclaimed dot gov. Exactly how much money are you
- 7:55Speaker 2: sitting on right now?
- 7:57Speaker 1: Oh? We have how much?
- 7:59Speaker 3: Man, We're sitting on hundreds of millions close to a
- 8:01Speaker 3: billion dollars money we're sitting on trying to get it out.
- 8:06Speaker 3: I've been very aggressive and thanks to you and Hammer
- 8:10Speaker 3: and Nigel on WIBC for your help. We had a
- 8:12Speaker 3: record year last year. We got eighty eight million dollars
- 8:14Speaker 3: back to their right flowners.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Very proud of that.
- 8:17Speaker 3: And this is important because if the state holds onto
- 8:21Speaker 3: this unclaimed property, and you do such a good job
- 8:23Speaker 3: to any describing examples of what that unclaimed property is,
- 8:28Speaker 3: if the state holds on to it for more than
- 8:30Speaker 3: twenty five years, it goes to the state, becomes the
- 8:32Speaker 3: state's property. In fact, we lose about two million dollars
- 8:36Speaker 3: a year to the state because it's been sitting around
- 8:38Speaker 3: for twenty five years.
- 8:39Speaker 1: So I want to get that money back to people.
- 8:41Speaker 3: And it's a self that the program's funds itself. It's
- 8:45Speaker 3: not using taxpayer dollars. And the money that we are
- 8:48Speaker 3: quote unquote sitting on isn't taxpayer dollars either. Like you say,
- 8:52Speaker 3: it's your money, so we appreciate if you try to
- 8:55Speaker 3: claim it.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Well, I looked up me.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I'm covered, but I did look up a producer Carl. Nope,
- 9:04Speaker 2: there's no money for him. But Matt Bear, Matt Bear there,
- 9:09Speaker 2: there might be some cash for you.
- 9:11Speaker 1: You need to get in here. You need to be
- 9:13Speaker 1: taking a look. You could be.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Sitting on quite literally, tens of dollars.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Increases his bachelor eligibility. Now we're talking, yeah, thousands of dollars.
- 9:24Speaker 2: By the way, the Attorney General has offered Matt to
- 9:27Speaker 2: be your wingman.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Oh, thank you. That's an honor.
- 9:30Speaker 2: He's all in right there. He'll he'll supply the he'll
- 9:35Speaker 2: supply the diet Cox and and just to leave you
- 9:37Speaker 2: be and take one for the team. Todd Rakeita, Attorney
- 9:41Speaker 2: General of the State of Indiana, I appreciate you taking
- 9:43Speaker 2: the time to be with us.
- 9:44Speaker 1: We'll talk more about this Lily lawsuit as well.
