Latest / Wall Friends / WoW to OSRS: Savix
Transcript
- 0:00Welcome back to the podcast miniseries Wow to Old School,
- 0:03where I'm talking with Wow creators that tried Old School
- 0:05Runescape to try and see what they thought of it, what they're
- 0:07thinking of that other game they used to play and everything in
- 0:10between. Two of the world's biggest MMORP
- 0:13GS and a bunch of conversations regarding those things.
- 0:15Today I'm talking with the Wow streamer that was second in line
- 0:18for the domino effect right after Goozu, one of the players
- 0:21that has truly embraced Old School Runescape is still
- 0:24actively playing to this day. I'll be honest, I was feeling
- 0:27very jealous up until this interview because it seems like
- 0:30all of my friends got in a call and talked with this guy before
- 0:33me. Well, I don't know where I was,
- 0:34but it wasn't in a call with them, that's for sure.
- 0:37So I finally made it happen. I feel like this guy's always
- 0:40having more fun than anyone else, except for when he gets
- 0:44pelted with a fastball at the OTK event directly in the back
- 0:47of the head getting concussed. I think we were probably having
- 0:51more fun than him after that. Everything.
- 0:54Every time else though, every other time he's been having way
- 0:57more fun probably. Ladies and gentlemen, enjoy this
- 0:59conversation with Savix. Savix.
- 1:12Hello. It's good to have you here.
- 1:14Thank you. How long have you been playing
- 1:17World of Warcraft? How long have I been playing
- 1:20World of Warcraft? Ever since I was in fifth grade
- 1:24I believe. Or 6th grade, can't really
- 1:25remember but it's. Like 3 years ago or how long,
- 1:28how long goes that? It's a scary number, I'd say
- 1:32like 20 years ago. So did you start playing like
- 1:37like would Wow first launch or like how far into Wow expansions
- 1:42did you start playing? So we grew up playing Blizzard
- 1:46games. We as in me and my brothers, and
- 1:48they were a lot older, so they got into these gaming stuff
- 1:51earlier. And I was a kid.
- 1:53I followed along my brother's footsteps, playing like Diablo
- 1:562, Warcraft 2, Warcraft three, like everything, right?
- 1:59Yeah. And then one of my brothers
- 2:01started playing World of Warcraft.
- 2:03Funny enough, me and my older brother used to make fun of him
- 2:06saying, like, World of Warcrafts are losers.
- 2:08We hear, like, you get no life, right?
- 2:10Yeah. And there was a day where my
- 2:13brother went to swim practice. And then I started playing on
- 2:15his account because he's like, yo, just try it out for once.
- 2:18It'll be really fun. So I made a dwarf hunter,
- 2:20played, fell in love with it. I just played on trial accounts
- 2:24for two months straight, I believe, or three.
- 2:27It might have been longer and trial accounts back then were
- 2:30only like 7 days, right? So I've been just like going
- 2:33through everyone's like trial accounts.
- 2:36But yeah, since like 2004, close to 2005 probably.
- 2:41OK. And did you ever take any like
- 2:43big breaks at all? Like it was already expansions,
- 2:46you kind of just didn't mess with it, just kind of stepped
- 2:49away at all. Or did you kind of play through
- 2:51all of it? The only big break I really had
- 2:54was when I was going into my high school, which was when
- 3:01Rather the List King was just releasing.
- 3:04And I was like, I played this game way too much.
- 3:07I can't even believe that I had that thought as a kid.
- 3:09But I was like, yeah, I played this game way too much.
- 3:11I'm going to stop playing and have a life in high school,
- 3:13right? Yeah.
- 3:14But funny thing, I come back from school and all my table is
- 3:18rather the listing expansion box.
- 3:21And my character was on the boat to Borean Tundra.
- 3:24And my second brother bought me this expansion so that I could
- 3:27play with him. And you know, it was on my table
- 3:29and my character was as logged in.
- 3:31It was like a surprise. I was like, how can I see noted
- 3:34this? And then I started playing
- 3:35again. I think that was like a little
- 3:37break I had. I never took like a really long
- 3:41break off of like when I tried Lost Ark, Final Fantasy and
- 3:45oysters, which is like pretty recent of the years, right?
- 3:49So basically stayed is like your home base, like you just always
- 3:52had wow to go back to basically. Pretty much I really, really
- 3:56enjoyed. Well.
- 3:57Nice, nice, good stuff. So when it comes to like your
- 4:03approach to games, especially Mmos, how would you describe
- 4:07your play style and like approach to just the way that
- 4:11you see the game, how you want to play it?
- 4:13Like, you know, some players are more casual about it, some are
- 4:16like, I got to complete everything, like completionist
- 4:19mentality. How do you go into games,
- 4:21especially Wow? In World of Warcraft I did have
- 4:24like a completionist mentality, but as expansions continue
- 4:28coming out, it's like, oh man, another set of dailies.
- 4:31I got to get exalted with these exalt with that reputation farms
- 4:35like Mog farm, like it just became too much at a point.
- 4:38And I was mainly APVP guy that wanted to get like rank one
- 4:41titles and mounds and tabbers shoulders like you get like
- 4:45special enchants for your weapons.
- 4:47So I aimed for those later, but I do like going in the
- 4:52traditional route. And luckily enough, I think if
- 4:57we could speak about OSRS here is that there are changes and
- 5:01there is new additions. But I love how you can go
- 5:04through the same step that other people went through and kind of
- 5:08go through the same route they went and experienced the same
- 5:12thing. And I really like that in trying
- 5:14out games where I get to really take that step by step going
- 5:18through what other people went. So I try to, I try to like dip
- 5:22my toes in everything I can now instead of just playing PvP
- 5:26only. Gotcha.
- 5:26So I like to try out everything and see what I like from that.
- 5:31And I'll probably learn more into that side, Right, Right.
- 5:34Whether it be PP or PPE. So would you like say that if
- 5:37there was like a label put on you as a player, like PvP, uh,
- 5:41would probably be the most applicable or not anymore?
- 5:46I don't really play super competitive or super sweaty
- 5:49anymore. I think the last time I did that
- 5:51was like 2021. OK, now I try to go in a casual
- 5:55route because I'm pretty sure you've like done super hard
- 5:59grindy stuff or something super competitive like in your own
- 6:03story in your own life, right? And I think I'm at that age
- 6:07where I got to try everything and I feel like for me, I got to
- 6:11achieve what I wanted or go to the top that I wanted to.
- 6:15And now I want to just relax and enjoy the game in my own pace.
- 6:19Right. Yeah, I totally get that.
- 6:21I say that, but at the same time there's like if if my friends
- 6:25are doing this, I'm like, shoot, I do want to do that, but I
- 6:27don't go like super sweat like 20 hours a day like long time
- 6:30ago. Yeah, no, I get that completely.
- 6:33Yeah. So right now in the the World of
- 6:37Warcraft landscape, like there is a lot going on with like
- 6:42anniversary servers, hardcore servers, a Legion remix, Mop
- 6:47classic retail, there's just a lot over there happening.
- 6:51And since you've been over here in the in the old school world
- 6:53for a while, when you, when you glance back over there at this
- 6:57community you, you were a part of for so long, what what are
- 7:00your collective thoughts about it right now at the current
- 7:02state of World of Warcraft in general?
- 7:06Gosh, can I answer it however I want?
- 7:08Like how do I ever you like give me a little guideline.
- 7:11However, you want just your job. I want, yeah, like what do I,
- 7:14what do I think about the direction, what the Warcraft is
- 7:16going through right now? Yeah, just.
- 7:18Just anything. Just like they have.
- 7:20Yeah, just like your initial thoughts, like, you know, you're
- 7:22walking forward and you're glancing backwards at all these
- 7:24Wow titles behind you, like the Wow, the Blizzard, like you just
- 7:28looking back, like what are your thoughts now that you've kind of
- 7:30stepped back from it a little bit?
- 7:32This is such a big question. It is, yeah.
- 7:35Now that I'm playing Osaurus, when I look at it, I think it's
- 7:39normal. I I'm pretty sure you'd feel it
- 7:42if you play world of workout for a long time.
- 7:44If you look back at Oscar Runescape, if that was your main
- 7:47MMO, right, like you, you feel like a part of it is your home,
- 7:52right. So when I look at while right
- 7:53now, it's like, Dang, I did miss it, but I'm loving the journey I
- 7:57have in OSRS right now and I'd like to achieve the goals that
- 7:59I'm aiming for and then probably along the line, I'll go back,
- 8:04right? I think Tim the Tat man said it
- 8:05the best. He was playing classic Wild and
- 8:07he was like, this is like grandma's pie, like no one can
- 8:10do it like this, right? So for me, going back to classic
- 8:13Wild is that vibe where it has a special spot in my heart because
- 8:18I played it so long and so many times, right?
- 8:21And then the cool part about it is that if I go back, it won't
- 8:25be necessarily like the same experience, but the playthrough
- 8:29is about the same where we go from dead mines to stalk is to
- 8:33like SM. You know what I mean, right?
- 8:35There's a stepping stone. And that's what I meant by like
- 8:37Oscar Runescape earlier where I get to go through the steps of
- 8:40like dragon Slayer, dragon Slayer 2 or desert treasure.
- 8:45Like I love that we could go through these and it's so fun
- 8:48and going back to the World of Warcraft, I feel like it's a
- 8:54very good game. It's a very good game.
- 8:56It's just we played it too long and there's no additions for
- 9:00classic. Well, so since I've pretty much
- 9:03did everything I wanted to in classic, well, I I think right
- 9:06now is a really good time for me to try out different Mmos,
- 9:09right? But if they were to do classic
- 9:12plus and if they do it right, like I would love to go back and
- 9:15try it and I hope they do it right.
- 9:17I think we're just all scared that, you know, it might not be
- 9:20that direction. That's what perfect.
- 9:23Perfect segue, because that's my next question is the fact that
- 9:26you said hope they do it right. What do you think about Classic
- 9:30Plus? Because I mean that's like
- 9:32that's the big deal. Like Classic plus when talking
- 9:34about World of Warcraft is what everybody is just waiting around
- 9:38for hoping that it comes out. So in your eyes, you know, what
- 9:43would make it so that it's right because you know, the World of
- 9:49Warcraft is a very vertical progression.
- 9:52And you know, if if you're talking about creating a whole
- 9:55new wow experience, you know, my biggest question with it is, is
- 10:01how do you kind of escape that end game gameplay loop of like,
- 10:06you know, is this just going to be a different farming for pre
- 10:10Bis and then getting Bis and then waiting for the next patch?
- 10:14Or like, how is it going to separate itself from the current
- 10:18format of Wow? Like without, you know, making
- 10:21it not feel like Wow. I love that you're questioning
- 10:24about this because I really wanted to cover this topic in
- 10:27one of my other videos. But yeah, I think for we're,
- 10:33we're just nerds. We want to have a good MMO,
- 10:35right? And we love classic Wow as much
- 10:37as we love OSRS, right? But trying out different Mmos,
- 10:40different times, super fun. I think by pretty much kind of
- 10:45said it at the start too, right? The replayability, I think
- 10:48that's really important in Classic.
- 10:50Plus, I'm not sure if you played Season of Discovery.
- 10:53Have you touched upon that at all?
- 10:54Only the first like 25 levels when it first came out, yeah.
- 10:58OK, if I could tell you the story of season discovery, I
- 11:03don't think they necessarily missed.
- 11:06I think they had a good aim in the dartboard.
- 11:08It's just the directions they went were a little bit in the
- 11:12way of players disliking it, right?
- 11:15Basically, I think one through 25, finding these rooms for new
- 11:21ability, those are perfect. But the pacing and the addition
- 11:25to some of the things was where they screwed up the pacing and
- 11:29what they were adding. So basically they added these
- 11:34ways to skip everything and just level up super fast.
- 11:37And there's a vendor that just gives you ruins like candy.
- 11:40You can just buy all of them, right?
- 11:42Yeah. And I think that ruins the game
- 11:44if they do that. I didn't know.
- 11:46They did that because I remember when I first started, you had to
- 11:49go like search for a rune somewhere, like this mysterious
- 11:52rune or something like that. Right, right.
- 11:54So their aim was correct. I think like the first part was
- 11:57really good and then the last part, the Scarlet Enclave that I
- 12:00think it was great. But if I could explain it in the
- 12:03way like you could understand and the viewers can understand
- 12:06is that they they need to in the future classic plus or any Mmos
- 12:10in the future. They've really got to make it
- 12:13replayable, and I think that's super important.
- 12:16And I say this because Retail Wild loses that touch where
- 12:20Retail Wild is really fun in its own ways, right?
- 12:23But if I were to explain to people about my Legion or World
- 12:27of Dodrano or Mr. Pondaria achievements, like not a lot of
- 12:30people could relate to that because they didn't get to play
- 12:32that expansion and they just played the newest expansion,
- 12:34right? Right.
- 12:35But if I talk about Classic Wow, everyone could relate to like
- 12:38going to Westfall or going to Barrens, going to like STV you
- 12:43encounter in like PvP. Same thing in old school
- 12:45Runescape, like when I first played like people are trying to
- 12:48bait me or lure me into the wildy right?
- 12:51And they're telling me all these boss fights like that exists in
- 12:56Classic Wow and OSR is because there is that replayability.
- 13:00I know there's like new crabs and there's like sailing come
- 13:03out like there's new additions. But you can still play it in the
- 13:06same way As for retail Wow. You lose all that.
- 13:10Like it's just it's just level to Max, do the Max content and
- 13:13do the raid that's available now.
- 13:15And you can't you can't play the older raids.
- 13:18But it's not the same as we know, right?
- 13:21Yeah. And I feel like that hurts the
- 13:24game, and for some people it works.
- 13:26They just want to do the new raise, new keys, new
- 13:29achievements, etcetera, but in a way where we can all connect and
- 13:34appreciate the game's history. I think the replayability is
- 13:38really, really important and I hope they do that correctly.
- 13:41Do do you have any ideas or like directions of what would create
- 13:45some kind of replayability in a classic plus?
- 13:48Well, I guess if you've done a warrior and I'm sure you've done
- 13:51a warrior, you know how there's like steps to getting your SM
- 13:56set, the head rod set and then you get the whirlwind acts like
- 14:00those are like memories, right? And then everyone that played
- 14:03Classic out there, like, yo, if you're a first time player, go
- 14:06play that or go get that, right? And as an old player, it's so
- 14:11fun to watch new players like go and tackle that solo.
- 14:14And it's great. It's kind of like how Tyler One
- 14:17played World of Warcraft Classic for the first time and all the
- 14:20veterans of the wild loved watching that because we can all
- 14:24relate in a way, right? And it's that replayability is
- 14:27available for them to go play that.
- 14:29It might not be the most exciting because it's so
- 14:31outdated. All you do is throw knives and
- 14:33just skip around the water. But it's still fun to see their
- 14:37reaction of getting the loot and I'm killing the boss because
- 14:40it's something you achieve in the game, right?
- 14:42It's like one of those harder steps than just killing a random
- 14:45mob, right, Right. And I guess now that I'm playing
- 14:50OSRS, is that these OSRS streamers or viewers, they like
- 14:54watching the fresh people play and going through the same
- 14:57experience that I went through as like Tyler did, right?
- 15:00Where I'm doing Jet and we have like 30,000 people watching.
- 15:04It's just like people like to watch that nostalgic feel, and I
- 15:09think being able to do that is awesome.
- 15:12And if they could add things, yeah, it's just like common
- 15:16bosses. I guess.
- 15:18The real challenge for them, though, is that there's a lot of
- 15:21classes in Wow, right? And they would have to make
- 15:25something iconic for that class that everyone gets to enjoy
- 15:30doing, right? And, and they did a little bit
- 15:33of that in Season the Discovery. I don't think it was terrible.
- 15:35I think some parts they did right, some parts they missed,
- 15:39and that's up to the people to decide on.
- 15:41But I really do think they should add a fun little things
- 15:45and fun little bosses that are memorable.
- 15:48I'd even say in OSRS, I like the moons, the Titans.
- 15:53Now I'm in the Red Prison, which is the gauntlet.
- 15:55And yeah, I like those steps. Even though it's like a prison,
- 15:59it's like a step that every Iron Man's go through and I get to
- 16:02experience the same thing, right?
- 16:03And I like those bosses. They're like challenging.
- 16:06And the Red Prison is pretty damn challenging, I'll say.
- 16:08But it is fun. It's fun and that's what gamers
- 16:11like. They like to just tackle and try
- 16:14to beat the boss and then get the loot they need, right?
- 16:17Definitely. And that's why I like Dark Souls
- 16:19or Elden Ring is popular too. It's just like bad ass hard
- 16:22bosses just trying to tackle and kill and once you kill it, it's
- 16:27like, damn, I massive the fight got the loot, let's move on to
- 16:30the next boss, right, And it's those fun challenges.
- 16:34So I I want classic wild to add some fun challenges, right?
- 16:37Hopefully they do figure out like some angle to create that
- 16:41replayability because I, I that probably is one of the hardest
- 16:44things to create, especially for an MMO where you know, you're
- 16:47expected to sink hundreds and hundreds of hours into a
- 16:51character or you know, in Runescapes case, an account and
- 16:56having someone come back and restart is always a challenge.
- 16:59Like creating something that people are going to want to
- 17:02invest that time again sort of thing.
- 17:06Replayability with Wow, I guess some some might argue that like
- 17:11creating a new character with a new class could be considered
- 17:13replaying it, but it's just like a weird, I don't, it doesn't
- 17:17feel like replayability is the right way to describe it, if
- 17:21that makes sense. Like I, I'm not sure where it's
- 17:23at, but hopefully they do make some systems and some bosses and
- 17:28content that, you know, becomes somewhat of like an iconic pit
- 17:32stop, you know, like barrows and old school kind of thing.
- 17:36Yeah, I'd love that. It's it's a fun way to like play
- 17:39the game. I will say the challenge in
- 17:42Waldo again, it's the classes where an old school Runescape
- 17:45like this shifted my view in Mmos.
- 17:47By the way, I kind of love how OSRS has no classes.
- 17:51Yeah, and everyone can do merely arranged or magic, right?
- 17:55I think that's freaking awesome. It is really cool.
- 17:58And that also makes it where no one's complaining about their
- 18:02class. Like I don't see anyone saying
- 18:04oh man, my magic sucks like or in a while, it's like my rogue
- 18:09DPS sucks or my major DPS sucks, right?
- 18:11And there's all these classes crying, but I don't really see
- 18:14that in this game, which is really, really cool.
- 18:16Yeah, definitely. Well, I guess to kind of rewind
- 18:20a little bit to kind of get into the old school discussion going
- 18:26back to the summer, you know, this mass migration of Wow
- 18:31players just all came over. Were you?
- 18:33It was like 2 weeks or something after all the other guys had
- 18:36gotten here. I remember you.
- 18:37No, it was, it was uh, Guzu and then me and then everyone else
- 18:41came in Sardalkos Ario, yes. OK, I got it.
- 18:45I got everyone's order mixed up. Then I I knew Sardaka was was
- 18:48later. Yeah.
- 18:48I knew Sardaka was later. Yeah.
- 18:50Sardaka was later. I guess the way I'm thinking
- 18:52about it is like, do you remember how long Guzu was
- 18:55playing before you had started? It might have been like 2 to 3
- 19:00weeks. OK, that's what was in my head.
- 19:02I I figured I didn't realize it was such a big gap between Guzu
- 19:06and and when everyone else had kind of like looked over in the
- 19:08direction. OK, that makes more sense.
- 19:11Yeah, yeah, now that you're mentioning it.
- 19:12Yeah, it definitely. I I do remember you being the
- 19:15next like big stream that of like a wow guy coming out.
- 19:18That doesn't make sense. It's all it's all blurring
- 19:21together for me at this point, but.
- 19:23But it's been a while. We've been thinking for like 4
- 19:26months now, yeah. All you guys are in the fucking
- 19:28corrupted golly right now. It's crazy.
- 19:29Like that's how far you guys are.
- 19:31It's been so long. But I guess rewinding to that,
- 19:35you know, obviously Guzu was was playing it, but do you remember
- 19:39what your initial reason, like the like the tip of the iceberg
- 19:42that made you really want to go for it and try out Old School
- 19:45Runescape? For me, every breakfast I eat, I
- 19:50try to like, see what my friends are doing.
- 19:52And I'd go say hi to Guzu. And then his community would be
- 19:55all like, Savage, come play OSRS, come play OSRS.
- 19:58And then Goose, like, yeah, you should join us, right?
- 20:00And I was like, I'll, I'll think about it, right?
- 20:02And at that time, I was already playing League of Legend because
- 20:04Classic Wow, you know, I've played, it's so much, right?
- 20:09Yeah, I played so much. And since they don't add like
- 20:12classic plus or anything, and I already beat season of
- 20:14discovery, they also mentioned that they're going to cut off
- 20:16season of discovery. So I was like, OK, why am I even
- 20:18playing this then if there's no, you know, continuous addition to
- 20:22the game, right, right. So I was like, OK, I'll give it
- 20:26a shot. So I I came open minded because
- 20:30back in my elementary school, I fought with kids saying that,
- 20:35you know, OSRS doesn't look as good, right?
- 20:37But I was super wrong. I was super wrong.
- 20:40Yeah. I thought it was a web browser
- 20:42clicker game. But there's so much in depth to
- 20:44it. And I will say like, I think
- 20:46this might be the most grindest MMO I've played.
- 20:49Oh yeah, yeah, it's. Very grind.
- 20:52Very unique grinds at that. Like, it's not, you can't really
- 20:55even compare it to other. It's like grindy Mmos because
- 20:58the grinds are just so in their own genre, I guess.
- 21:02Yeah. But yeah, that's blowing sand
- 21:04and I get 55 per blow and it's like I got a distal 99.
- 21:09Hello. Like what is the?
- 21:11Yeah, it's very grindy. But yeah, that's how I got
- 21:14started playing the game. Yeah, so you were on the front
- 21:17lines basically, you know, trash talk and Runescape graphics back
- 21:22in the day then? Yes, I was one of those guys
- 21:26that really loved Wow. And I will say, I think for
- 21:292004, if I could compare Runescape and Wow, I think Wow
- 21:33was like kind of a monster back. Oh, miles ahead of basically
- 21:38everything. Not just like obviously
- 21:39Runescape, but everything like it was a.
- 21:41It was a monster. It was unstoppable.
- 21:44Revolution I. Will say I will say now I think
- 21:47OSRS is better than classic wow because of how much they added
- 21:51to the game. Like all these fun bossing and
- 21:55these skills. I I I really like it.
- 21:58Like in terms of content available sort of thing.
- 22:01Yes, in in terms of that, because classic well paused at
- 22:042004, right. They never added anything.
- 22:06Well, I guess you can say like 2005, 2006, but they never added
- 22:10anything like Old School Runescape did.
- 22:11So back in 2004, I'll say World of Warcraft was like peak, but I
- 22:15think nowadays I think you can say OSRS is doing fantastic man.
- 22:20Yeah, definitely. I'm so curious.
- 22:22All this. Stuff.
- 22:22Yeah. Like now that you mentioned
- 22:23that, I'm so curious of what you guys would think if you got to
- 22:28log into the 2013 client of Old School Runescape before any
- 22:33updates or quality of life were put in.
- 22:35Like, yeah, it was a whole different game, like using your
- 22:39arrow keys to turn your camera. Like it was brutal.
- 22:43But you guys didn't even have the middle mouse.
- 22:44Yeah, no middle mouse. Yeah, it was.
- 22:47Yeah, it was crazy. You couldn't change your F keys
- 22:50like nothing. Yeah, that's what I mean.
- 22:53I probably would have liked. Yeah, most people would have.
- 22:56It was old school, was not like people were excited, but it it
- 23:00was not big really until they started putting their own
- 23:03updates in. So yeah, the fact that they're
- 23:05not updating Classic Wow at all, definitely.
- 23:08I mean, it speaks volumes because I mean, we've seen it
- 23:11over here. What just giving a rollback
- 23:14client looks like it doesn't do much by itself.
- 23:17Like you have to attend to it, add to it, update it if you want
- 23:21it to survive. And of course, old school has
- 23:24been out for 12 years now. So it's like they they figured
- 23:27it out. Obviously it's breaking records
- 23:29this year, so it's it's awesome. Yeah, it's so awesome to see
- 23:33that. Yeah, but going back to when you
- 23:36first started, do you remember just your first week, you know,
- 23:40you're logging in, you're experiencing this kind of
- 23:43sandbox MMO for the first time of just your impressions, like
- 23:47your first impressions of the game, like what was going
- 23:50through your head each day would were logging in for that first
- 23:53would. Oscar Runescape.
- 23:55Yeah, on Oscar Runescape. OK, like I said, I came with a
- 23:59super open minded and I've done this for Final Fantasy 14 and
- 24:02Lost Ark and Blade and Soul. So coming into this, I will say
- 24:08the first few days I I did meme a lot because I was like
- 24:12clicking stuff. I'm just auto attacking these
- 24:15guys all fall over. There's like no real mechanic,
- 24:18right? And I continued playing though,
- 24:21because I did see like what the other side looks like and I
- 24:25heard about how challenging it gets.
- 24:27So I was like, OK, I'm looking forward to that.
- 24:29So I'm gonna go through this to see that.
- 24:32Right yeah, and I'm so glad I stuck around and I got to see
- 24:35all these like amazing bosses, like toe out.
- 24:38I guess like the first step was Scurious.
- 24:39When I first saw Scurious, I was like, okay, this game actually
- 24:43has mechanics and you got to pray right, Mealy range and
- 24:48magic and you got to beat up this rat kill ads like I was
- 24:51like OK, this is really, really cool yeah.
- 24:53I can't wait to see what like more they have in the future.
- 24:58Yeah, and from the OSRS event we had, we got to do the Theater of
- 25:03Blood. And recently I did, I did Toa
- 25:06and Cox, and I was like, dude, this is super fun.
- 25:08Yeah, like so much that clicking game actually has so much to
- 25:13offer, which is crazy. I'll never forget you getting
- 25:18your fire Cape and seeing your ass run underneath Jad through
- 25:22it with those. That's the high IQ mechanics.
- 25:25I'm like, what study guide was this motherfucker using?
- 25:28Dude? Like that's crazy.
- 25:31That's that's wild. But yeah, it's cool.
- 25:33It's cool seeing all like the the mechanics kind of open up
- 25:36to. You.
- 25:36I thought I was going to die though, because so once I
- 25:40studied were the ones where like he's on the side and you go down
- 25:44and kill the ads, right? And then you go back up.
- 25:46Yeah, when I saw that orange guy spawn in the middle, I was like,
- 25:48oh shoot, I'm fucked guys. Yeah, but I remember like my
- 25:52chest saying you could go under him.
- 25:54Just have to pray mealy. And I said OK, I'm going to try
- 25:56that. And at that moment, I just tried
- 25:58it, sent it, and I executed it properly and you got to beat
- 26:02him. It's just freaking awesome.
- 26:03I was a disbelief. Panic.
- 26:05Yeah. Yeah, I mean, it's usually like
- 26:07a a rite of passage to panic in that situation.
- 26:09Like I feel like most people would just completely botch
- 26:12that. So I was just mind blown when
- 26:14you just Florida State pulled it off.
- 26:16Like, I can't believe you did that.
- 26:18It's so cool. But I guess, I guess that just
- 26:20goes to show like, yeah, like these mechanics that you would
- 26:23have never, ever guessed Runescape would have, like just
- 26:27on first glance sort of thing. I would have never.
- 26:29Yeah. So did you ever try the whole
- 26:33like guide list thing or or were you kind of embracing the the
- 26:38wiki and and quest helper like pretty much off the bat?
- 26:42There's like a me in my chat where they spam read read,
- 26:45right? Because I never freaking read
- 26:47and they tried so many times to make me like read wiki and go
- 26:51through them. I did use the quest helper.
- 26:53However, I didn't really use wiki as much as I should have.
- 26:57So I feel bad because the community really wanted me to
- 27:00learn the wiki. To this day I barely use it.
- 27:06But yeah, I did kind of like a quest helper but didn't really
- 27:10have a structure that I followed.
- 27:12I think that's why I was kind of slow on my skilling, but looking
- 27:16back now, I kind of wish I followed the Bodie's guide.
- 27:20I looked at it and it's like holy moly, this guy's min maxing
- 27:23and you could get to this level in like 3 days, which took me
- 27:27like days to get to. Yeah like the agility levelling.
- 27:33I levelled it up in like Vera Camelot, you know, I I levelled
- 27:37it up in these weird places. You have no idea Jimmy.
- 27:40Yeah. And I see, I see Bodie like
- 27:42levelling everything in this, like the place he goes into in
- 27:46the in the island. I don't know where what you call
- 27:48that place. When you first start or where?
- 27:51No, there, there's, this isn't the Koran Bungee Island?
- 27:55Yeah, I think so. In Brimhaven, there's like this
- 27:57agility area you could go in and then you could do the course to
- 28:00level up. Oh.
- 28:01The brimhaven agility course. Like the one obstacle that
- 28:03people jump over, over and over, is that what you're?
- 28:06Talking about pretty pretty much pretty much where I levelled up
- 28:10to like 73 just climbing houses, right?
- 28:12I wish I knew about that place, but.
- 28:14I didn't, yeah. It's, it's really interesting
- 28:17just all the various methods of, of training skills that people
- 28:22kind of figure out because the whole like agility, Broomhaven
- 28:25thing wasn't really meta until I feel like recently maybe maybe
- 28:30people were using it. But I had never heard of people
- 28:32doing that up until like the Wow guys came over.
- 28:34Yeah, like I'd never known anyone that trained that way.
- 28:36But I mean, maybe, maybe people have been doing that forever,
- 28:39but who knows. Yeah.
- 28:42Once you started playing a little bit and you kind of found
- 28:45yourself continuing your, your journey, there was a there was a
- 28:50saying being thrown around a lot throughout the Twitch chats and
- 28:54you know, YouTube comments of everyone's saying progression
- 28:58matters in Old School Runescape. That was like the big argument
- 29:01of why Wow players are enjoying it.
- 29:04I mean, I don't have much credentials to be like, yeah,
- 29:07yeah, progression matters over here more than over there
- 29:09because I've only leveled like a few times and Wow.
- 29:11So I I don't have the stuff to back me up here.
- 29:14But from your perspective, does the the whole progression
- 29:18matters statement that everyone throws around so much, does that
- 29:21actually apply or is it kind of over said overdone?
- 29:26Progression meaning like going to barrows, to moons, like that
- 29:31kind of stuff. Yeah, just.
- 29:32Everything like your progression matters in general.
- 29:34Like just, I think it's obviously it's going to, it's a
- 29:38contrast to the fact that when you're playing World of
- 29:42Warcraft, a lot of players feel like they're constantly like on
- 29:45a timer to get their best in slot before it becomes
- 29:48irrelevant and their gear kind of gets overwritten essentially.
- 29:56I think that's mostly what they're talking about.
- 29:58OK, I don't know if I'm going to answer this the way you're
- 30:00questioning it, but I do think I really like how you do TOA to
- 30:06get the staff right. That's like the best spot.
- 30:09And then you did Theater of Blood to get the scythe, which
- 30:12is the best and soft melee, and you did Cox to get the twisted
- 30:15bow, right. And if I could backtrack a
- 30:19little bit, like getting the barrels geared definitely does
- 30:22help in moons. I don't think you need, although
- 30:24if you're like a good player, right, but it definitely helps
- 30:27and I like that. I think it's very good that you
- 30:30have a choice of wanting to get it or not, right.
- 30:34And then now if I can Fast forward to the end game stuff, I
- 30:37really like that there's weapons that are best in slot in each
- 30:41race where you have to go back and do them.
- 30:43Because, for instance, like Molten Core and BWL, yes, there
- 30:48are some trinkets that maybe you didn't get because there's like
- 30:5050 rogues or 50 warriors in your group and you never get your
- 30:54turn right, so you have to go get it.
- 30:57But I like that there's like these best install item where
- 31:00you have to go back and do these contents.
- 31:03Yeah, definitely. And I guess to answer the whole
- 31:07progression thing, I like it. I like the steps you have to
- 31:12take because at the start of the interview too, I said that I
- 31:16like trying out everything. And then later on I lean on like
- 31:20whatever I like more, right? Right.
- 31:22Whether it be raid or doing mini bosses.
- 31:25But I like that I got to try all of these.
- 31:27And I think the progression's awesome because now I can relate
- 31:30with other OSRS players and talk about things in a way I could
- 31:34understand a tiny bit better, right, right.
- 31:37Whereas then if it's like retail, while when you get to
- 31:40maximum and you do the newest raid, it's like I'm not going to
- 31:42know anything about the previous stuff and it's all irrelevant in
- 31:47a way. Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 31:49Yeah. I feel like anyone who goes and
- 31:50plays like retail off the bat, like a new player going to play
- 31:53retail, you're just you just you just go buy like 20 years of the
- 31:59end game history that you never see, never see it unless you're
- 32:02going and you become like a collector or something.
- 32:05You're trying to complete all the collection log over there.
- 32:09Yeah, but, and there's like pros and cons to that, right?
- 32:12You just get to skip to the best, like new stuff where you
- 32:16don't have to like do all the grind.
- 32:18And I guess that's where like people get to choose if they
- 32:20want that or not, right, Right. But retail Wow feels like a
- 32:23seasonal game where like this one is like you go on a journey
- 32:26and you enjoy like the traditional things that OSRS
- 32:30players have, right? And it's cool that I get to
- 32:32experience at all. I think it's so cool.
- 32:34So Speaking of experiencing it all and kind of bouncing off the
- 32:38what you were talking about, you know, there was like 50 rogues,
- 32:41so you didn't get the thing you needed kind of thing.
- 32:44A big selling point of old school, especially for Iron Man
- 32:49is the fact that you really don't need to play with other
- 32:53people to do the content in the game, especially if you need to
- 32:56get new gear or, you know, get your upgrades to, you know,
- 33:00progress your account a little more.
- 33:02What's been your thoughts so far on being able to just kind of go
- 33:06in with like a almost like a single player feel to complete
- 33:10things in the? I want to say I love it.
- 33:15Yeah, I I really like that I can go in and spam it as much as I
- 33:20want to get the drop. Yeah, because in well, you have
- 33:22to wait once a week, which could kind of be a bummer for raise,
- 33:26Of course, right. Yeah.
- 33:30I also, this is kind of like off topic, but I like that there is
- 33:34no tank or healer role in OSRS. It's just you bring your
- 33:38potions. If you fuck up, you're dead.
- 33:40It's your fault. There's no like, oh, I didn't
- 33:43get healed. Let's blame the healer, let's
- 33:45blame the tank. And NFFI also didn't like tanks
- 33:49because they could F up every single mechanic and they'll lift
- 33:52because they're so tanky, right? Yeah.
- 33:54But in this game, like, if you F up a mechanic, you get punished
- 33:57pretty harshly, right? And I really, really like that
- 34:01part about OSRS. And I think that's the unique
- 34:03part about OSRS where it's like classless, everyone's the same.
- 34:07You go in with the set of potions and you just send it
- 34:09home. Yeah, it is a cool part of it,
- 34:12especially since like there's not a there's nothing in the
- 34:15game like a an item that you know will be irrelevant to you.
- 34:20Like if you go and get a good drop somewhere, it's not going
- 34:23to be like class dependent, like, oh, I'm not a warrior so
- 34:26this doesn't matter for me. Like I'll just sell this or
- 34:28yeah, whatever. Like anything you get you can
- 34:31use sort of thing, which I think is really nice.
- 34:35I guess my time and Wow, it was kind of like, you know, there's
- 34:39so many times I left a dungeon disappointed or something
- 34:41because the thing that dropped just wasn't for me, you know?
- 34:44It's like, no, I get it. The warlock gets it, you know,
- 34:47It's like, yeah. So I like that aspect of it for
- 34:51sure. You said you've been doing some
- 34:54raids. Yeah, we've been doing tow cocks
- 34:57we're pretty new to, so in ALM 5 we're getting wrecked right now.
- 35:00But yeah, almost tough to learn. Definitely sharpened.
- 35:04Yeah, yeah. ALM is like, tremendously hard.
- 35:07Right now, the yeah, the first time, I'll never forget the
- 35:10first time where I was kind of being guided through and having
- 35:14to dodge those crystals falling was like a nightmare, like
- 35:17trying to just comprehend everything going on around me.
- 35:21It was just a. Yeah.
- 35:22Just overwhelming. So yeah, it's it's a very fun
- 35:26one to learn, super fun. Yeah.
- 35:28Through your journey so far, like looking back, did you, do
- 35:33you have a quest Cape at all or have you done a lot of the
- 35:35quests? I have a few quests left, I kind
- 35:40of like stopped for some reason, but you don't have to do the
- 35:44Diaries right? No, you don't need to do Diaries
- 35:47for quests. I have a handful of quests left,
- 35:49I could probably push for it, but it hasn't been my priority.
- 35:53Gotcha. So I yeah, just just to make
- 35:55sure that you've done like a good chunk of them, but just
- 35:59like looking back on everything so far, what would you say what
- 36:02part of the game has been your favorite experience?
- 36:06Like whether it's a certain grind that you were really
- 36:08enjoying or just the like experiencing bosses for the
- 36:11first time, like what really sticks out as your your
- 36:14highlight? This is going to sound weird,
- 36:16but I was in moons for a very long time and I wasn't Titan for
- 36:21a very long time. I think I'm almost like 636
- 36:24killing Titan to get all my stuff right.
- 36:27And at the time, I absolutely hated it when I was like, man,
- 36:31why am I being so unlucky where all my friends are getting in
- 36:34like 70 kills, right? Yeah.
- 36:36And I'm almost getting 700 kills.
- 36:39But the viewers were saying that it's trauma bonding, I guess.
- 36:44Yeah. And when I looked back and I was
- 36:46like, damn, that sucked. But at the same time I had fun
- 36:49grinding my ass like trying to get that item right 100.
- 36:53Percent, yeah. I do think I enjoyed the bosses
- 36:57a lot more. That's good.
- 36:59Yeah, it's. If I could choose one quest
- 37:01though, since the father, that was really good.
- 37:03Yes, since the. Father met the story too, yeah.
- 37:06Nice, have you done Desert Treasure 2 yet?
- 37:08I have not done that. I'm going to do the good things
- 37:12and desert treasures soon though.
- 37:13Yeah, I did. Both the people I talked to that
- 37:18said that they did not like quests, both said that Desert
- 37:21Treasure 2 was one of their favorite parts of of Old School
- 37:24Runescape. Yeah.
- 37:26So it's gonna be really fun watching you do that.
- 37:29I'm really excited, yeah. OK.
- 37:31That's like the, that's the quest that makes people into
- 37:34quests for a second. Like even if it's just for one
- 37:37quest, people get into it because of how cool that quest
- 37:39is. It's that good.
- 37:40Like it is by far the best. Yeah, it's not even close.
- 37:43So I'm, I'm stoked for you to do that one.
- 37:46I'm I'm excited. OK.
- 37:48I'm looking forward to that. Yeah.
- 37:50It's gonna be awesome. So I guess right now, you know,
- 37:54there's there's been a bunch of wow streamers who have you know,
- 37:57they tried Runescape. They they gave it a couple weeks
- 38:00wasn't really feeling it recently.
- 38:02The the recent topic has been Showbeck kind of burning out a
- 38:06little bit, not not finding himself like, you know,
- 38:08motivated to find a goal or anything like that.
- 38:11It's just like very natural parts of playing in MMO playing
- 38:15old school. So where would you say that you
- 38:19currently stand? Like do you have long term goals
- 38:22in mind that are kind of keeping you here or like how are how are
- 38:24you viewing old school right now?
- 38:26I I have a long term goal for sure.
- 38:29I said from the start I wanted to get fired Cape and then
- 38:31infernal Cape, right. I think infernal Cape itself is
- 38:35a challenge. Like I looked at wooks clearing
- 38:37it or my friends showing me them fighting it.
- 38:39You got to like set up the boss. You got to take up like mage,
- 38:42play, range, play mage, play range play like in a six second
- 38:45take and it's like, damn, it's so deep.
- 38:47And I'm an Iron Man, so I got to farm every single item before
- 38:51going there. So it's a really long stretch to
- 38:54goal and I'd love to get there. So that's like where my head
- 38:58space is at right now and I don't see myself like dropping
- 39:01it anytime soon. And if I could go back into
- 39:04Showbix thing. I know some people are being
- 39:06harsh, but I feel like he got to try the game and he's
- 39:10experienced it a lot more than some of the other wow people
- 39:13that tried it, right? Like Sony and the soda, like
- 39:17multiple other names, right? I, I will say he got far and he
- 39:22got quest Cape and it's up to him to see if he wants to
- 39:26continue it or not, right? And he might be burned.
- 39:29Maybe he saw like what the game is all about.
- 39:31It's very grindy. Maybe it's not for him.
- 39:33So I, I think people shouldn't hate on that, right?
- 39:37Oh, definitely not. Yeah.
- 39:39I think most people are upset though, like which I could see
- 39:42the perspective of is they're really invested in his story and
- 39:45he wanted to get like suck him and all these other things,
- 39:49right? And he told them he'll get them.
- 39:50And I guess those people are the ones that are mad because they
- 39:53were still invested, right? I can understand from both
- 39:56sides, but it's just unfortunate that there's like some clash on
- 40:00it, right? Yeah, definitely.
- 40:02Yeah, it's at the end of the day, I mean, all everyone's
- 40:06journey is so fun to watch and it's it's nice to get invested
- 40:09in somebody's story and journey and especially the players that
- 40:13have just been having a blast watching people try it for the
- 40:16first time. But at the end of the day, it's
- 40:19a video game. Like it's it like, you know
- 40:22that. Yeah, it doesn't.
- 40:24You know, if he says he's going to go get a Zuck helm on an Iron
- 40:26Man. First of all, if you ever if if
- 40:29you have any context whatsoever about Old School Runescape, you
- 40:34should know that a new player saying that they're going to go
- 40:37get an Iron Man Zuck helm is just something that you should
- 40:40playfully cheer on because there is no way that is going to
- 40:46happen. Why would you think that's going
- 40:48to happen at all? It's a hard thing to do man Like
- 40:51it's not one of the hardest things to achieve in video games
- 40:53like not just Mmos, but like that the the challenges you need
- 40:57to do for that are are insane. So I would never hold it against
- 41:00a new player. Be like, oh, you didn't do that
- 41:03thing you said you were going to do.
- 41:04Like, yeah, no shit. Like, no one, no one thought you
- 41:07were going to do that. Like, it's fine.
- 41:10Yeah. But you know, it's just like, it
- 41:12is. It is a game at the end of the
- 41:14day, like no one else's story is going to truly matter except for
- 41:19yourselves. And it's like you can't fault
- 41:22people for, you know, not having motivation to get a goal
- 41:28achieved on a game that asks for hundreds of hours of time
- 41:32investment. Like you can't demand that from
- 41:34somebody if it's not something they are really wanting to do.
- 41:37So I completely understand. I talked to him along for quite
- 41:42a while about it yesterday and got his perspective on it.
- 41:45And it definitely makes sense where he's coming from.
- 41:47I, I totally see that. But you know, it, it's I, I
- 41:51think as long as you do have a goal in mind that you're
- 41:53actually wanting, like as long as you have a desire to get that
- 41:56infernal Cape, you're going to have no problem logging in,
- 41:59working towards it. It's, that's just how that's how
- 42:03old school goes, I guess. But yeah, it's it's.
- 42:07Yeah, I I must say one of the most grinded MI played man, it's
- 42:11a it's a bad it's a good problem to have in MMI thing like having
- 42:16so much to do. Yeah, it's a good problem to
- 42:18have in a game, definitely, because then other Mmos like you
- 42:21kind of run out and you leave, right?
- 42:24Yeah, yeah, it it doesn't. I guess some players I see would
- 42:28would kind of see like the quest Cape as the end goal for a lot
- 42:33of stuff because I've definitely felt that way before.
- 42:35But just kind of looking at, you know, all the creators, all the
- 42:39series, all the streaming, it's like you can kind of see just
- 42:44how much potential there is to like find a new path to take and
- 42:47a new journey on a new account kind of thing.
- 42:50So. Yeah, it's awesome, man.
- 42:51It's. A never ending journey, like you
- 42:53could just seriously never beat the game and it's a great time
- 42:57watching everybody else. It's funny how you say that the
- 43:02never beat the game. It's like, I guess the
- 43:04definition depends on the players, But whenever I ask
- 43:07Chad, like, when do you beat the game, they always say never.
- 43:11And these guys are playing for like years and they still are
- 43:15collecting things, right? Yeah.
- 43:17I guess for me, it's like when you beat all the bosses, that's
- 43:20when you beat the game. But for them, it's like they
- 43:22have to have everything collected, all the logs
- 43:25completed, and it's like they'll never be able to achieve that,
- 43:27right? Right.
- 43:28It's literally endless. It's crazy.
- 43:31Well, the The thing is, funny enough, the first video I made
- 43:36that this video is going to be a sequel for is like the why
- 43:39people play Runescape. Like five years ago I had said
- 43:42in there like that Runescape, like you can't beat Runescape
- 43:45even if you were to get 200 million XP and everything full
- 43:48collection log, like there is nothing more you can truly
- 43:51achieve on the account. Your journey doesn't end there
- 43:54because you're making a new account like the it's not
- 43:57beaten. You don't think it's beaten in
- 43:59your head. That's why you started a new
- 44:00account. Like every maxed player has
- 44:02multiple accounts that they're on.
- 44:04Like it's just the way that their gaming life has worked.
- 44:07So even when you think it's beaten, which I mean, no one's
- 44:10even had an account that has achieved that yet.
- 44:13So it's like, you know, nobody ends their journey just on that
- 44:17one guy. Like, yeah, sure, that
- 44:19character's story did its own thing, but player to game, it's
- 44:24just not beatable. Like you'll you'll never be
- 44:26beating the game in that sense. So it's a very unique MMO in
- 44:31that sense, I think. Yeah, I agree with that.
- 44:34So at this point, would you say that Old School Runescape has
- 44:37kind of solidified itself as a permanent game to play like in
- 44:41your tool belt, especially on stream?
- 44:43Like for, I mean, I, I don't want to say years to have you
- 44:46say like, oh, playing this for years, but like, do you see it
- 44:49as a game that you could play in the future, like long down the
- 44:53road just whenever? Permanent.
- 44:55I, I, I don't know if like permanent is the right word
- 44:57because I thought Wow was going to be my permanent game, right?
- 45:01And at some point I thought Final Fantasy was going to be my
- 45:03permanent game. But once I got what I wanted,
- 45:07which was like doing an ultimate and Final Fantasy, right?
- 45:10It's one of the hardest ways. Takes like 3 months to learn.
- 45:14Some people could do it in a week or like a month, right?
- 45:16But yeah, for the average player, it takes like 6 months
- 45:19or a year to learn the ultimates.
- 45:22And once I beat the ultimate and got everything I wanted, I was
- 45:25like, OK, there's not much to do in here anymore, right?
- 45:29Because I got what I wanted. And I guess you could say the
- 45:32same with like Wow, where you beat all the rate to next tram.
- 45:35It's like, OK, what's next, right?
- 45:37I just don't want to spam that tram.
- 45:38It's just kind of boring for me. And Runescape would be kind of
- 45:42like I said, the goal right now is Inferno.
- 45:46Hopefully I could get it right. Yeah.
- 45:48But if there's another, like, really, really interesting game
- 45:52that comes out near the time, I mean, we're MMO lovers, right?
- 45:56We would love to try new things, and if it's fun, we'll play.
- 45:59But if it's not fun, I'll probably come back to Runescape,
- 46:01right? Yeah, definitely.
- 46:03And I guess it's the same concept for like Wow, where if
- 46:06some things are getting kind of slow and maybe my audience is
- 46:10not enjoying us as they used to, right?
- 46:14I would probably play classic well, and then maybe hop back to
- 46:17SRS and like, bounce around, right?
- 46:20But I don't think I'll ever, like, quit, quit Runescape
- 46:23because I'm pretty damn invested into this game.
- 46:27Yeah. And weirdly enough, now I kind
- 46:29of like what I call the homework, which is like the
- 46:32farming my birdhouse run, getting my seaweed planted,
- 46:38blowing glass. Like, it's kind of becoming
- 46:40your, like, part of my daily routine now.
- 46:43I'm really enjoying it. Yeah, I think if there's a way
- 46:46to make that, you know, but not feel like, you know, quote UN
- 46:49quote homework, like if it if it's a comfortable cozy thing
- 46:52that you integrate in your life, it's like, why not, you know?
- 46:55Yeah, that's good though. It's, it's making me
- 46:58disciplined, you know, and I like that.
- 47:01I guess you can absolutely. I could make discipline.
- 47:05So right now, right now there's a this is the first temporary
- 47:09game mode that's come out while you've been a part of the old
- 47:13school community, the the grid master stuff.
- 47:15And did you, I think I saw you, you had tried it for like a
- 47:18couple days, right? I'm planning to complete it
- 47:22after I come back from my break. I'm going to be gone on 27th and
- 47:26coming back on November 1st. After I come back I'm going to
- 47:28finish out the rest. I think I have like 13 tiles
- 47:30left. Nice.
- 47:32So you, so you didn't. Want to play?
- 47:33But I think it's fun, yeah. Yeah, cool.
- 47:36I don't think there's been too many other Wow guys that have
- 47:41been playing. I think it's only been Guzu and
- 47:43I, yeah, that played it. Because Sardako said.
- 47:46He's not even going to touch it because he's like, it's XP waste
- 47:49for my main account. I'm like, yeah, I get that, man.
- 47:52Yeah, I had the same reasoning. I told everyone like this is my
- 47:55main character. This is like my first born son.
- 47:58I want to show him all the love and everything on this
- 48:00character, like first time experience.
- 48:02But everyone kept saying try it out.
- 48:04So I was like OK, I'm going to try it out because at the end of
- 48:06the day, like I tried out Runescape, right?
- 48:08Because I was open minded and I was like, I'll try it out since
- 48:10everyone's just saying it. Yeah.
- 48:12And I tried it out. I think they did a good job.
- 48:14It was fun. It was really fun.
- 48:15And I'm looking forward to complaining the rest of it.
- 48:18Yeah, it's a really, really fun thing to see.
- 48:23Have you completed it? I haven't completed it yet.
- 48:26No, I started super late. I think I'm on like day three
- 48:28right now and I've got I, I just got my 99 construction out of
- 48:33the way and just kind. Of Oh my goodness, doing the.
- 48:36Yeah, yeah. So I'm just slowly getting
- 48:39through it. I I think the.
- 48:40The fence and the Thrones. Yeah, the marble, the marble
- 48:44fence, yeah. Marble parted forever.
- 48:46Yeah, I made sure to go get as many of the like the XP bonuses
- 48:50as possible. I think I'm at like 10 X XP
- 48:52right now, so it went by pretty fast.
- 48:54Yeah yeah. It's been a blast though.
- 48:56But I'm I, I really hope that a lot of the wow guys will try a
- 49:03league when it comes out because it is like gridmaster was super
- 49:06fun. A lot of people tried it on day
- 49:08one, but leagues is like that. Those day ones of leagues are
- 49:14some of the most fun you can have in video games.
- 49:17Even if you're not even into Runescape much, Playing on day
- 49:20one of leagues is some of the most fun, the the craziest, most
- 49:24chaotic shit ever. It's like it, I mean, it quite
- 49:26literally is like classic launching on day one sort of
- 49:29thing with how many people are running around.
- 49:31And it's awesome, man. I can't wait for you guys to
- 49:34experience that. If if you guys do try it, it's
- 49:36it's going to be great. Yeah, but I'm I'm hoping that
- 49:41Jack X continues like experimenting with temporary
- 49:44game modes like that because I think it is a big plus.
- 49:47It's. It's a good mix.
- 49:48And then it makes you like kind of miss the old games, so you go
- 49:51play back to your main account, right?
- 49:53But it's it's a good pitch. It's a win win for both the
- 49:55community and the company, right?
- 49:57Yeah. Definitely, yeah.
- 49:59But I guess a question that I wanted to ask you in particular
- 50:05about Old School Runescape PvP, because I know you were into it
- 50:10probably before most other of the Wow guys, like you were
- 50:13getting into it a little more. You had called ODA Block and had
- 50:16him teach you a bunch of stuff. So I, I just want to hear like
- 50:20just your general thoughts on old school PvP in general,
- 50:23because it's, it's generally looked at as like there's too
- 50:26steep of a learning curve, It's overwhelming, it's not worth it.
- 50:29It's like where? What are your thoughts on it as
- 50:31someone who's kind of dove in and experienced a little bit of
- 50:34it? Gosh, PvP yeah, I think PvP and
- 50:40Mmos are super fun. It's just the devs kind of
- 50:45forget about you because PVM is a little bit I almost want to
- 50:51say it's easier to balance because you don't see any
- 50:53monsters complaining like hey, that guys too strong or that
- 50:55items too strong and they cry about right, yeah, that's true.
- 50:58Players players, they cry about everything man.
- 51:02I do I will say like PP super fun, has a lot of great people,
- 51:05but at the same time, even I myself was included back when I
- 51:09used to like play a lot arena. I used to be one of the
- 51:12crybabies that would say like nerf this class, buff this class
- 51:16like can you guys get this thing damn straight right.
- 51:18Yeah. So there's a lot of like
- 51:20negative noise in it. I think that's why like the devs
- 51:22just give up throwing the towel because it's really hard to make
- 51:25PP scene happy. Yeah.
- 51:27However, going back to what you were saying, I think PvP, I'm a
- 51:32beginner, right? And when you're a beginner and
- 51:35Wow and you're PvP, you don't know anything and you get your
- 51:37first care, it feels amazing, right?
- 51:39Right. But as you get deeper into it,
- 51:41you become a little bit more tarnished in a way, like rugged,
- 51:45like you go through many things, right?
- 51:48Toxic wars. Toxic a little.
- 51:50Hardened. Yeah.
- 51:51Yeah. So you got you get kind of
- 51:55roughened up and you've kind of I almost become an elitist.
- 51:58I think at some point I was an elitist until I started playing
- 52:00my viewers in the future. But right now I'm in that baby
- 52:05step where I'm just learning and getting one kill feel is
- 52:08amazing. Right, right.
- 52:10And I had so much fun with PvP. But again, the same thing with
- 52:17Wow, PP is not that popular. And when I would do LMS,
- 52:21everyone in my community would complain.
- 52:24Like you're wasting EXPPBM is more fun.
- 52:27But yeah, and at the end of the day, like I love doing what my
- 52:31audience enjoys watching, right? Because I'm a streamer and
- 52:35you're like a YouTube streamer, right?
- 52:36And you want to see what you want to do, what they want to
- 52:40watch, or they're subscribed for, right?
- 52:43Right. So.
- 52:44I, I definitely kind of put away the PvP scene, but PvP was super
- 52:50fun for what it was. I I I really enjoyed it.
- 52:53Yeah, the the whole LMS system is really nice for just kind of
- 52:57dipping your toe in, at least to kind of get a feel for it.
- 53:00Because I, I mean, I honestly, I don't even know the current
- 53:05landscape of like PvP worlds, but when I learned how to PvP
- 53:08for the first time, it was through like the one defence
- 53:11pure Peking on PvP worlds and. It was.
- 53:16Insane because I mean you it's not safe death, like you lose
- 53:19your stuff every time you die. So it's not like you can
- 53:21practice LMS or whatever. So it was like a whole different
- 53:26environment, a whole different learning process.
- 53:28And it would have been really fun to see people learn how to
- 53:32PvP in that sense because LMS, it's obviously 0 stakes, you
- 53:35know, you just kind of repeat it until you get it right.
- 53:38And like, that just wasn't how it was beforehand.
- 53:43Yeah, I think here's what I will say.
- 53:45Like if I continue playing LMS, I would have probably got hungry
- 53:49enough to want to start doing the pure or just doing the PK
- 53:53stuff, right? Yeah.
- 53:54Definitely. But LMS, I like how everyone has
- 53:58like the gear set you start with and everyone has three players,
- 54:02offensive and defensive. And it's like whoever does the
- 54:05rock, paper, scissors the best. And I will say I'm surprised by
- 54:09how like complex it could get. Like it's only a few players,
- 54:14right? But man, some people go crazy on
- 54:18the. Switches.
- 54:19Oh yeah, it is like once you get into the the like high risk ODA
- 54:24block tier of battles, it's like half of the fight you're you're
- 54:29not even worried about mechanically clicking correctly
- 54:32anymore. It's psychological warfare at
- 54:34that point. Yeah, yeah, yeah, your skill.
- 54:37Can only get you so far in sense of clicking when you're at auto
- 54:40blocks level. So it's just like there's like
- 54:42faking each other out What am I gonna do next?
- 54:44What am I gonna? Do exactly exactly.
- 54:47Whole different game. It's not even possible to get to
- 54:51that point. Like those dudes have decade
- 54:54plus of experience. To do that shit.
- 54:56It's, it's nuts, but it it does, it is really cool that some like
- 55:00LMS kind of let you experience that side of the game because it
- 55:04really is hard to approach it at all anymore because I think if
- 55:09LMS didn't exist, like 0% of new players would be experiencing.
- 55:14PvP was LMS added. LMS actually came out very early
- 55:19on. Like you, you, you know, that
- 55:21phase in the video game world when Fortnite got popular?
- 55:24So like, everyone was making a battle Royale, Like everybody.
- 55:28Oh no way. It was around like the Fortnite
- 55:30time. LMS has existed for a really
- 55:31long time, but not in its current format.
- 55:33It used to be very different. But LMS itself as a mini game
- 55:36has been around. I don't even remember what year
- 55:38it was, but they were on top of it like surprisingly fast.
- 55:41The whole battle Royale wave, they they were on it, which is
- 55:44crazy. But yeah, that is really cool.
- 55:47Yeah. I'm glad they put it in because
- 55:49we got to experience too, right? Yeah, yeah, it's.
- 55:51Super cool. I think it's super fun.
- 55:55Yeah, yeah, I've I've been very good friends with Kevin framed
- 56:02the the I think you call him like the lure or something like
- 56:04that. I don't know the.
- 56:05Lure framed the lure. Framed I yeah I I've like been
- 56:11by his side through all of his like, you know the PvP journey
- 56:15and it is just different world man like.
- 56:19I didn't know you guys were like close friends.
- 56:20That's awesome. Oh, yeah, I, yeah, I've been
- 56:24very, very close with him for like 13 years.
- 56:27Yeah, it's yeah, very, very good guy.
- 56:30Really good too, I saw his switches, he's fast.
- 56:33Yeah he is. He knows what he's doing, but he
- 56:36doesn't like to, he doesn't like to do like PvP competitions or
- 56:39anything like that cuz he, I don't know, maybe he just gets
- 56:42nervous, anxious and like which I get, I wouldn't want to
- 56:45fucking PvP against anybody. It's like when we were in Texas
- 56:49just doing that like PvP shit. That was like the most mental
- 56:56warfare with me and no one else. Like it was just me against
- 56:59myself sitting there getting PKD like by someone in with a
- 57:04fucking crossbow, me not knowing what to do with myself.
- 57:07Yeah, it's crazy. Cool adrenaline, man.
- 57:11Yeah. But it.
- 57:12Could be nerve back then, yeah. But I guess 11 last question
- 57:17here, very important one. Sure.
- 57:19What would you rate Old School Runescape out of 10?
- 57:23Out of 10, I want to give it a really good score.
- 57:29I think it's really fun in its own way, and it has its own
- 57:33culture, and I think the community is awesome.
- 57:36I think it's like any other Mmos, right?
- 57:38There's like that toxic part, but there's also that welcoming
- 57:41part and patient people just watching us bash our heads and
- 57:47doing everything wrong and being supportive.
- 57:49But yeah, and I'm saying that because, like, the community
- 57:53matters, right? It's like who you play around
- 57:55with and the game, because without that it wouldn't be MMO,
- 57:58right? Right.
- 58:00So since it's like an online game I think the community
- 58:03itself is. I got to give it a 9 I think.
- 58:09A99 That's a good score. Game for the gameplay I gotta
- 58:15give it a 10. Gameplay 10.
- 58:18Yes. Damn.
- 58:20There's a lot of, there's a lot of things that I would complain
- 58:22about, right, where I'm not a fan of how this game is like a
- 58:27beat game. I didn't know that coming in,
- 58:29but it's almost like a beat game where there's like a rhythm you
- 58:31got to follow. Yeah, click, click, click,
- 58:33right. So for myself, I'm not the
- 58:36biggest fan of that. But every time I complain about
- 58:38it, people are saying like, oh, you need to get used to it or
- 58:40it's the game. And they're right.
- 58:42If I was to, like, complain about this and make them change
- 58:45it and the way I would be making retail, Wow, right, where I'm
- 58:48asking for too much change and it would lose what the game is
- 58:52really all about, right? Right.
- 58:54And these guys have, like, history with this game where
- 58:56they played it for like years upon years, like a decade,
- 58:59right. Yeah.
- 59:00Definitely. And from that perspective, like,
- 59:03I could understand it. I couldn't understand their
- 59:06levels of love for this game and how much they care about these
- 59:09tiny little changes. And even them adding sailing
- 59:13recently, right? Like they're afraid of it
- 59:15because it might change the game too much.
- 59:17And I get it, dude. I get it.
- 59:18Like, retail went through so much changes becoming what
- 59:21retail is. And I guess some people love
- 59:24retail and some people might love sailing, some people might
- 59:26not. Right.
- 59:27I don't know how you feel about it.
- 59:29Yeah. Mixed feelings.
- 59:31I I mixed feelings. OK, glad, but I think that's
- 59:33that's another thing that kind of to bounce off that.
- 59:37But like with the especially with the, the tick system is but
- 59:41one. First of all, I think that all
- 59:43of you guys got pushed way too hard into understanding ticks
- 59:48way too early. And it was.
- 59:50Crazy how much it was present at all of your gameplay, like in
- 59:55early game, like it was so insanely unnecessary to know
- 59:59about until you are in like very end game.
- 1:00:02Like it's crazy. So I guess that was like the
- 1:00:05counter to it. It's like if you're feeling like
- 1:00:08that pressure to understand. 100 BPM every .6 seconds you need to
- 1:00:13understand like clicking twice in between your prayer.
- 1:00:15You know, it's like you don't need to do that.
- 1:00:19Like you can min Max and then be the most efficient player
- 1:00:22possible, which I understand you know, Iron Man, you got to make
- 1:00:25your own supplies, whatever. But ultimately, if it's
- 1:00:28something that's like hindering your experience at all, you
- 1:00:30simply don't have to do that. Like it's it's so optional that
- 1:00:37it, it shouldn't ever be a reason to kind of hold you back
- 1:00:41or like demotivate because it's ticks weren't even known about
- 1:00:45before old school. Like ticks have always existed
- 1:00:49but no one even knew what it was.
- 1:00:52It's kind of like 2004 classic wow where like nobody really
- 1:00:55knew anything but since it was out so long like these players
- 1:00:59find a mechanic within himself for them to min Max upon right?
- 1:01:04Exactly. And I guess like in the same way
- 1:01:06this is how they figured it out because I'm pretty sure the
- 1:01:09prayer flicking was not intentionally made for them to
- 1:01:13be able to do that. But there's just.
- 1:01:15Absolutely not. Yeah.
- 1:01:17So not exactly what I'm saying, yeah.
- 1:01:20I also think it's cool that they kept it in.
- 1:01:22It's really cool. Yeah.
- 1:01:24Yeah, it is. In a way, like I appreciate the
- 1:01:27game. I think that's why I'm giving
- 1:01:28you a high score because within its flaws, I think it's its
- 1:01:32beauties as well. And I except what the game is
- 1:01:35all about. Man, it's really fun.
- 1:01:37Yeah, I guess that is true. It's like the the tick system
- 1:01:41and like the clock that the game runs on.
- 1:01:43If you like look at it a certain angle, it seems pretty ugly, but
- 1:01:46the players have somehow turned it into something beautiful,
- 1:01:50like it's just really cool. Yeah, that's that's true.
- 1:01:53Awesome. Sweet.
- 1:01:55The game's been fun. Yeah, I'm glad you're enjoying
- 1:01:58it. I'm glad everyone's enjoying it.
- 1:01:59And I'm excited to see you wear an infernal Cape one day.
- 1:02:02That's gonna be sick. That's gonna be really sick.
- 1:02:06I'll get it one day, OK? I'll get it one day.
- 1:02:07You. Will you?
- 1:02:08Will. We'll all be watching.
- 1:02:09See me taking a break, But one day I'll be wearing it.
- 1:02:12Yeah, you will cheat. Because I hear that some people
- 1:02:16get it like after five years too, right?
- 1:02:18Like I. Still don't have one?
- 1:02:21Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Like I might not for a while.
- 1:02:24It's one of those grinds where like you need to really, really
- 1:02:27want it because it does take a lot of time and a lot of
- 1:02:29commitment like it's. Just.
- 1:02:32If you don't, like, I've never thought to myself like I need an
- 1:02:35infernal Cape now. Like I need to prove it to
- 1:02:38myself and others. So it's like, why would I go do
- 1:02:40that if I don't really want it right now?
- 1:02:43Like I'm sure I've had urges here and there, but you know,
- 1:02:46one day I'll get it too. Why not, you know?
- 1:02:47But until that time comes, I'm not going to stress it.
- 1:02:50It ain't going anywhere. That Cape will be there for me
- 1:02:53to get, you know. Yeah, that's.
- 1:02:55Awesome, man. Savix, thank you so much for
- 1:02:58taking time out of your day to talk with me about all this
- 1:03:00stuff. This is that was a lot of fun.
- 1:03:04I'm stoked that you've found a very comfort, cozy place in in
- 1:03:09the old school community. I think everyone's stoked that
- 1:03:12you're over here and very excited to see what happens
- 1:03:15these next few months. See where you get what you're up
- 1:03:18to? Yeah, thank you so much for
- 1:03:21giving me the opportunity to speak about it and inviting me

- 1:03:48He deserves that. Our next next and final guest is
- 1:03:51someone who I have wanted to talk to about MMORPG's for
- 1:03:55actual years. He was one of the first, if not
- 1:03:57the first Wow creator to ever react to my initial World of
- 1:04:01Warcraft video, and ever since I have tuned in to him and learned
- 1:04:05a ton about MMORPG's because of how insightful he is.
- 1:04:08He has a great outlook on a lot of gaming topics, so I was
- 1:04:11stoked about this one. He's one of the biggest names in
- 1:04:14the Wow community, one of the nicest people you could ever
- 1:04:16talk to. I cannot wait for you guys to
- 1:04:19listen to in on this discussion. So I'll see you next episode.
- 1:04:22We talk with Tsar you.
