- 0:00Speaker 1: Bolgovav Ghita translated by Sir Edwin Arnold introductory note. During
- 0:08Speaker 1: the centuries in which Buddhism was establishing itself in the
- 0:11Speaker 1: east of India, the older Brahmanism in the West was
- 0:16Speaker 1: undergoing the changes which resulted in the Hinduism, which is
- 0:20Speaker 1: now the prevailing religion of India. The main ancient sources
- 0:24Speaker 1: of information with regard to these Hindu beliefs and practices
- 0:28Speaker 1: are the two great epics, the Ramayana and the Maha Brata.
- 0:34Speaker 1: The former is a highly artificial production based on legend
- 0:38Speaker 1: and ascribed to one man Vall Mikua. The latter, a
- 0:44Speaker 1: huge conglomeration of stirring adventure, legend, myth history and superstition,
- 0:52Speaker 1: is a composite production, begun probably as early as the
- 0:55Speaker 1: fourth or fifth century before Christ and completed by the
- 0:59Speaker 1: end of the sixth century of our era. It represents
- 1:03Speaker 1: many strata of religious belief The Boghavodgita, of which a
- 1:09Speaker 1: translation is here given, occurs as an episode in the
- 1:13Speaker 1: Mahabarata and is regarded as one of the gems of
- 1:18Speaker 1: Hindu literature. The poem is a dialogue between Prince Arjuna,
- 1:24Speaker 1: the brother of King Yurhistira and Vishnu, the supreme God,
- 1:31Speaker 1: incarnated as Khrushna and wearing the disguise of a charioteer.
- 1:37Speaker 1: The conversation takes place in a war chariot stationed between
- 1:41Speaker 1: the armies of the Kauravas and Bandavas, who are about
- 1:47Speaker 1: to engage in battle. To the western reader, much of
- 1:52Speaker 1: the discussion seems childish and illogical, but these elements are
- 1:56Speaker 1: mingled with passages of undeniable sublimity. Many of the more
- 2:00Speaker 1: puzzling inconsistencies are due to interpolations by later rewriters. It is,
- 2:07Speaker 1: says Hopkins, a medley of beliefs as to the relation
- 2:11Speaker 1: of spirit and matter and other secondary matters. It is
- 2:15Speaker 1: uncertain in its tone in regard to the comparative efficacy
- 2:19Speaker 1: of action and inaction, and in regard to the practical
- 2:22Speaker 1: man's means of salvation. But it is at one with
- 2:26Speaker 1: itself in its fundamental thesis that all things are each
- 2:30Speaker 1: a part of one Lord, that men and gods are
- 2:33Speaker 1: but manifestations of the one divine Spirit. End of introductory note,
- 2:41Speaker 1: Chapter one. Arjuna Vishad Territrashtra ranged thus for battle on
- 2:50Speaker 1: the sacred plane on karuk Schittra, say, Sanjaya, say what
- 2:56Speaker 1: wrought my people and the pandavas son Jaya, when he
- 3:02Speaker 1: beheld the host of pandavas Raja Duryodhana to Drona drew
- 3:10Speaker 1: and spake these words, Ah Guru, see this line, how
- 3:15Speaker 1: vast it is of Pandu fighting men in battled by
- 3:19Speaker 1: the son of Drupada, thy scholar in the war. Therein
- 3:23Speaker 1: stands ranked chiefs like Arjuna, like to Bima chiefs, benders
- 3:28Speaker 1: of bows, Virata Yu Yu dang Drupada eminent upon his car,
- 3:35Speaker 1: Drishta kate ChEI, Kitan Kasi's stout lord, Purujit Kunti poj
- 3:42Speaker 1: and Shaivih with udham and Ju and uttam Auj Supadra's
- 3:48Speaker 1: child and Rao Padis, all famed, all mounted on their
- 3:54Speaker 1: shining chariots. On our side too, Thou best of Brahmins,
- 4:01Speaker 1: see excellent chiefs, commanders of my line, whose names I
- 4:05Speaker 1: joy to count thyself the first. Then Bhishma Karna Kripa
- 4:13Speaker 1: fierce and fight Vikarna Ashwattaman next to those strong Salmadati
- 4:22Speaker 1: with full many more valiant and tried, ready this day
- 4:27Speaker 1: to die for me their king, each with his weapon grasped,
- 4:33Speaker 1: each skillful in the field weakest meseems. Our battle shows
- 4:40Speaker 1: where Bhishma holds command and Biemah fronting him, something too strong,
- 4:47Speaker 1: have care our captain's nigh to Bhishma's ranks, prepare what
- 4:52Speaker 1: help they may now blow my shell. Then, at the
- 4:57Speaker 1: signal of the aged king, with blair to wake the
- 5:00Speaker 1: blood rolling round like to a lion's roar, the trumpeter
- 5:05Speaker 1: blew the great counch, and at the noise of it,
- 5:09Speaker 1: trumpets and drums, cymbals and gongs and horns burst into
- 5:13Speaker 1: sudden clamor as the blasts of loosened tempests such the
- 5:17Speaker 1: tumult seemed then might be seen upon their car of gold,
- 5:23Speaker 1: yoked with white steeds, blowing their battle shells. Khrushna, the
- 5:29Speaker 1: god Arjuna at his side. Khrushna, with knotted locks, blew
- 5:35Speaker 1: his great counch, carved of the giant's bone, Arjuna blue
- 5:41Speaker 1: Injure's loud gift. Bima, the terrible wolf bellied Bma blew
- 5:48Speaker 1: a long reed conch. Yudhishtira, Kunti's blameless son, winded a
- 5:54Speaker 1: mighty shell. Victory's voice and Nakula blue shrill upon his
- 6:00Speaker 1: counch named the sweet sounding Sahadev on his called gem bedecked,
- 6:08Speaker 1: and Kasi's prints on his Sikandi on his car. Drushtadyum
- 6:16Speaker 1: Vita Sotaki. The unsubdued Durupara with his sons, O Lord
- 6:23Speaker 1: of Earth long armed. Supadra's children all blew loud, so
- 6:30Speaker 1: that the clangers shook their foemen's hearts with quaking earth
- 6:34Speaker 1: and thundering heaven. Then twas beholding dRIT Rashtra's battle set weapons,
- 6:42Speaker 1: unsheathing bows drawn forth the war instant to break. Arjuna,
- 6:48Speaker 1: whose ensign badge was Hanuman the Monkey, spake this thing
- 6:53Speaker 1: to Khrushna the Divine. His charioteer drive dauntless one to
- 7:00Speaker 1: yonder open ground betwixt the armies. I would see more
- 7:04Speaker 1: nigh those who will fight with us, those we must
- 7:08Speaker 1: slay today and wars our bitterment for sure on bloodshed.
- 7:14Speaker 1: All are bent who thronged this plane obeying Dartarastro's sinful son.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Thus Barrajuna prayed o barrata between the hosts. That heavenly
- 7:27Speaker 1: charioteer drove the bright car reining its milk, white steeds,
- 7:32Speaker 1: where Bhishma led and Drona and their lords see spakey
- 7:39Speaker 1: t Arjuna, Where they stand thy kindred of the Kurus
- 7:44Speaker 1: and the prince marked on each hand, the kinsmen of
- 7:47Speaker 1: his house, grandsires and sires, uncles and brothers and sons,
- 7:54Speaker 1: cousins and son in law and nephews, mixed with friends
- 7:59Speaker 1: and honored elders, some this side, some that side, ranged,
- 8:04Speaker 1: And seeing those opposed such kith grown enemies, Arajuna's heart
- 8:11Speaker 1: melted with pity while he uttered this Krushna, as I behold,
- 8:18Speaker 1: come here to shed their common blood yon concourse of
- 8:22Speaker 1: our kin. My members fail, My tongue dries in my mouth.
- 8:27Speaker 1: A shudder thrills my body, and my hair bristles with horror.
- 8:31Speaker 1: From my weak hand slips gondiv the goodly bow. A
- 8:36Speaker 1: fever burns my skin to parching hardly. May I stand?
- 8:40Speaker 1: The life within me seems to swim and faint. Nothing
- 8:44Speaker 1: do I foresee, save woe and wail. It is not good, okay, shove,
- 8:51Speaker 1: Not of good can spring from mutual slaughter. Lo I
- 8:55Speaker 1: hate triumph and domination, wealth and ease. Thus save one,
- 9:01Speaker 1: Oh ho, what victory can bring delight Golvinda. What rich
- 9:06Speaker 1: spoils could profit, what rule recompense? What span of life
- 9:11Speaker 1: itself seems sweet bought with such blood? Seeing that these
- 9:16Speaker 1: stand here ready to die for whose sake life was
- 9:20Speaker 1: fair and pleasure pleased, and power grew precious grandsires, sires
- 9:27Speaker 1: and sons, brothers and fathers in law and sons in law,
- 9:33Speaker 1: elders and friends. Shall I deal death on these, even
- 9:38Speaker 1: though they seek to slay us? Not one blow? O Madhusudana.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Will I strike to gain the rule of all three worlds? Then,
- 9:48Speaker 1: how much less to seize an earthly kingdom? Killing These
- 9:52Speaker 1: must breed but anguish Khrushna. If they be guilty, we
- 9:57Speaker 1: shall grow guilty by their deaths will light on us?
- 10:01Speaker 1: If we shall slay those sons of dart Rastra and
- 10:06Speaker 1: our kin, What peace could come of that, Oh Mahdava.
- 10:11Speaker 1: For if indeed, blinded by lust and wrath, these cannot
- 10:16Speaker 1: see or will not see the sin of kingly lines
- 10:20Speaker 1: o'er throne and kinsman slain, how should not we who
- 10:25Speaker 1: see shun such a crime, We who perceive the guilt
- 10:30Speaker 1: and feel the shame, Oh Thou delight of men Janardana
- 10:36Speaker 1: by overthrow of houses perisheth their sweet continuous household, piety
- 10:42Speaker 1: and rights neglected piety extinct enters impiety. Upon that home,
- 10:49Speaker 1: it's women grow unwomaned. Whence their spring mad passions and
- 10:55Speaker 1: the mingling up of castes, sending a hellward road that
- 10:59Speaker 1: family and whoso wrought its doom by wicked wrath nay,
- 11:04Speaker 1: and the souls of honored ancestors fall from their place
- 11:08Speaker 1: of peace, being bereft of funeral cakes and the wan
- 11:12Speaker 1: death water. So teach our holy hymns. Thus, if we
- 11:16Speaker 1: slay kinsfolk and friends for love of earthly power, Oh
- 11:20Speaker 1: of yet, what an evil fault it were better? I
- 11:24Speaker 1: deem it. If my kinsmen strike to face them weaponless
- 11:29Speaker 1: and bear my breast to shaft and spear, then answer
- 11:33Speaker 1: blow with blow. So speaking in the face of those
- 11:37Speaker 1: two hosts, Arjuna sank upon his chariot seat and let
- 11:42Speaker 1: fall bow and arrows. Sick at heart, here endeth chapter
- 11:48Speaker 1: one of the Boghavadgita.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Chapter two, Sanjaya him filled with such compassion and such grief,
- 11:59Speaker 2: with awe tear, dimmed, despondent in stern words, the driver
- 12:04Speaker 2: Madusadan thus addressed, Krishna, How hath this weakness taken thee?
- 12:12Speaker 2: Whence springs the inglorious trouble, shameful to the brave, barring
- 12:16Speaker 2: the path of virtue. Nay, our June, forbid thyself to feebleness.
- 12:22Speaker 2: It mars thy warrior name, cast off the coward fit,
- 12:26Speaker 2: wake be thyself, arise scourge of thy foes, Our Juna,
- 12:34Speaker 2: How can I in the battle shoot with shafts on
- 12:38Speaker 2: Bhishma or on Rona, O Thou chief, both worshipful, both
- 12:43Speaker 2: honorable men. Better to live on baker's bread with those
- 12:48Speaker 2: we love alive than taste their blood in rich feasts,
- 12:52Speaker 2: spread and guiltily survive. Ah, were it worse? Who knows
- 12:58Speaker 2: to be victor or vanquished? Here when those confront us angrily,
- 13:04Speaker 2: whose death leaves living drear in pity, lost by doubtings tossed,
- 13:11Speaker 2: my thoughts distracted, turn to THEE, the guide I reverence
- 13:15Speaker 2: most that I may counsel learn. I know not what
- 13:19Speaker 2: would heal the grief burned into soul and sense. If
- 13:24Speaker 2: I were Earth's unchallenged chief, a god, and these gone,
- 13:29Speaker 2: thence Sonjaya. So spake Arjuna to the Lord of hearts
- 13:37Speaker 2: and sighing, I will not fight held silence, then to
- 13:42Speaker 2: whom with tender smile O barata. While the Prince wept
- 13:47Speaker 2: despairing TwixT those hosts, Krishna made answer in divinest verse, Krishna,
- 13:55Speaker 2: Thou grievest where no grief should be. Thou speakest the
- 14:00Speaker 2: words lacking wisdom for the wise in heart. More, not
- 14:04Speaker 2: for those that live, nor those that die, Nor I,
- 14:08Speaker 2: nor thou, nor any one of these ever was not,
- 14:12Speaker 2: nor ever will not be forever and forever afterwards. All
- 14:18Speaker 2: that doth live lives always to man's frame. As there
- 14:23Speaker 2: come infancy and youth and age. So come there raisings
- 14:27Speaker 2: up and layings down, of other and of other life
- 14:30Speaker 2: abodes which the wise know and fear. Not This that
- 14:35Speaker 2: irks thy sense, life thrilling to the elements, bringing the
- 14:40Speaker 2: heat and cold, sorrows and joys, tis brief and mutable.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Bear with it, Prince, as the wise bear. The soul
- 14:50Speaker 2: which is not moved. The soul that with a strong
- 14:53Speaker 2: and constant calm takes sorrow and takes joy indifferently lives
- 14:58Speaker 2: in the life, undying. That which is can never cease
- 15:03Speaker 2: to be that which is not will not exist. To
- 15:08Speaker 2: see the truth of both is theirs who part essence
- 15:12Speaker 2: from accident, substance, from shadow, indestructible, Learn thou the life
- 15:18Speaker 2: is spreading life through all. It cannot, anywhere by any means,
- 15:25Speaker 2: be any wise diminished, stayed, or changed. But for these
- 15:30Speaker 2: fleeting frames which it informs with spirit, deathless, endless, infinite,
- 15:35Speaker 2: they perish. Let them perish, Prince and fight. He who
- 15:41Speaker 2: shall say, lo, I have slain a man, He who
- 15:45Speaker 2: shall think, lo I am slain Those both know not
- 15:50Speaker 2: Life cannot slay. Life is not slain. Never the spirit
- 15:57Speaker 2: was born. The spirit shall see to be never. Never
- 16:02Speaker 2: was time, It was not end in beginning our dreams.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Birthless and deathless and changeless remaineth the spirit forever. Death
- 16:13Speaker 2: hath not touched it at all, dead, though the house
- 16:16Speaker 2: of it seems. Who knoweth it exhaustless, self sustained, immortal, indestructible.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Shall such say I have killed a man, or caused
- 16:28Speaker 2: to kill? Nay, But as when one layeth his worn
- 16:33Speaker 2: out robes away, and taking new ones, saith, these will
- 16:37Speaker 2: I wear to day. So putteth by the spirit lightly
- 16:42Speaker 2: its garb of flesh, and passeth to inherit a residence. Afresh,
- 16:48Speaker 2: I say to thee weapons reach not the life, flame
- 16:53Speaker 2: burns it not, waters cannot o'erwhelm, nor dry winds wither it. Impenetrable, unentered, unassailed, unharmed, untouched, immortal,
- 17:06Speaker 2: all arriving, stable, sure, invisible, ineffable by word and thought,
- 17:12Speaker 2: uncompassed ever all itself. Thus is the soul declared. How
- 17:20Speaker 2: wilt thou, then, knowing it so, grieve when thou shouldst
- 17:25Speaker 2: not grieve? How if thou hearest that the man new
- 17:30Speaker 2: dead is like the man new born, still living man,
- 17:35Speaker 2: one same existent spirit, wilt thou weep? The end of
- 17:41Speaker 2: birth is death. The end of death is birth. This
- 17:46Speaker 2: is ordained. And mournest thou, chief of the stalwart arm,
- 17:52Speaker 2: for what befalls which could not otherwise befall. The birth
- 17:58Speaker 2: of living things comes un perceived, the death comes unperceived.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Between them beings perceive, what is there? Sorrowful herein dear prince, wonderful,
- 18:11Speaker 2: wistful to contemplate, difficult, doubtful to speak upon, strange, and
- 18:17Speaker 2: great for tongue to relate mystical hearing for everyone, Nor
- 18:23Speaker 2: wotteth man, This what a marvel it is when seeing
- 18:27Speaker 2: and saying and hearing are done. This life, within all
- 18:33Speaker 2: living things, my prince hides beyond harm. Scorn thou to suffer, then,
- 18:39Speaker 2: for that which cannot suffer, do thy part. Be mindful
- 18:45Speaker 2: of thy name, and tremble. Not nought better can be
- 18:49Speaker 2: tied a martial soul than lawful war happy. The warrior
- 18:54Speaker 2: to whom comes joy of battle comes as now glorious
- 18:59Speaker 2: and fair, unsought, opening for him a gateway unto heaven.
- 19:05Speaker 2: But if thou shun'st this honorable field a keshatriya, if
- 19:11Speaker 2: knowing thy duty and thy task, thou bidst duty and
- 19:15Speaker 2: task go by, that shall be sin, and those to
- 19:21Speaker 2: come shall speak thee infamy from age to age. But
- 19:26Speaker 2: infamy is worse for men of noble blood to bear
- 19:30Speaker 2: than death. The chiefs, upon their battle chariots will deem
- 19:35Speaker 2: twas fear that drove THEE from the fray of those
- 19:39Speaker 2: who held THEE mighty souled the scorn Thou must abide,
- 19:43Speaker 2: while all thine enemies will scatter bitter speech of THEE
- 19:46Speaker 2: to mock the valor which thou hadst. What fate could
- 19:50Speaker 2: fall more grievously than this, either being killed, thou wilt
- 19:56Speaker 2: win Swargin's safety or alive, and victor thou wilt reign
- 20:01Speaker 2: an earthly king. Therefore arise, thou, son of COONTI brace
- 20:07Speaker 2: thine arm for conflict. Nerve thy heart to meet as
- 20:12Speaker 2: things alike to thee pleasure or pain, prophet or ruin
- 20:17Speaker 2: victory or defeat. So minded, gird THEE to the fight.
- 20:22Speaker 2: For so thou shalt not sin. Thus far I speak
- 20:29Speaker 2: to THEE as from the sanchya unspiritually hear now the
- 20:34Speaker 2: deeper teaching of the yog, which, holding understanding, thou shalt
- 20:40Speaker 2: burst thy karme bond the bondage of wrought deeds. Here
- 20:45Speaker 2: shall no end be hindered, no hope marred, no loss
- 20:49Speaker 2: be feared. Faith yea, a little faith shall save THEE
- 20:55Speaker 2: from the anguish of thy dread. Here glory of the
- 20:59Speaker 2: Kurus shines one rule, one steadfast rule, while shifting souls
- 21:06Speaker 2: have laws many and hard, specious but wrongful deem. The
- 21:11Speaker 2: speech of those ill taught ones who extol the letter
- 21:15Speaker 2: of their Vedas, saying this is all we have or need,
- 21:20Speaker 2: being weak at heart with wants, seekers of heaven, which
- 21:24Speaker 2: comes they say as fruit of good deeds done, promising
- 21:30Speaker 2: men much profit in new births for works of faith,
- 21:35Speaker 2: in various rights abounding following whereon large merit shall accrue
- 21:40Speaker 2: towards wealth and power. Albeit who wealth and power do
- 21:46Speaker 2: most desire, least fixity of soul, have such least hold
- 21:51Speaker 2: on heavenly meditation. Much These teach from vEDS concerning the
- 21:57Speaker 2: three qualities. But thou be free of the three qualities,
- 22:03Speaker 2: free of the pairs of opposites, and free from that
- 22:07Speaker 2: sad righteousness which calculates self ruled. Are juna simple satisfied,
- 22:15Speaker 2: look like as when a tank pours water forth to
- 22:18Speaker 2: suit all needs. So do these brahmins draw texts for
- 22:22Speaker 2: all wants from tank of holy writ. But thou want
- 22:27Speaker 2: not ask, not find full reward of doing right in right,
- 22:34Speaker 2: Let right deeds be thy motive, not the fruit which
- 22:38Speaker 2: comes from them, and live in action labor, make thine
- 22:43Speaker 2: acts thy piety, casting all self aside, contemning gain and
- 22:49Speaker 2: merit equable in good or evil. Equability is yog is piety.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Yet the right act is less far less than the
- 23:02Speaker 2: right thinking mind. Seek refuge in thy soul, have there
- 23:08Speaker 2: thy heaven. Scorn them that follow virtue for her gifts
- 23:14Speaker 2: the mind of pure devotion, even here casts equally aside
- 23:20Speaker 2: good deeds and bad, passing above them. Unto pure devotion,
- 23:26Speaker 2: devote thyself with perfect meditation comes perfect act, and the
- 23:33Speaker 2: right hearted rise more certainly because they seek no gain
- 23:38Speaker 2: forth from the bands of body, step by step to
- 23:42Speaker 2: highest seats of bliss. When thy firm soul hath shaken
- 23:47Speaker 2: off those tangled oracles which ignorantly guide, then shall it
- 23:53Speaker 2: soar to high neglect of what's denied or said this
- 23:56Speaker 2: way or that indoctrinal writ troubled no longer by the
- 24:01Speaker 2: priestly lore safe, shall it live and sure, steadfastly bent
- 24:07Speaker 2: on meditation. This is yog and peace are Juna? What
- 24:17Speaker 2: is his mark? Who hath that steadfast heart confirmed in
- 24:21Speaker 2: holy meditation? How know we his speech? Cassava sits, he moves,
- 24:27Speaker 2: he like other men Krishna. When one o Pritha's son,
- 24:34Speaker 2: abandoning desires which shake the mind, finds in his soul
- 24:39Speaker 2: full comfort for his soul, he hath attained the yog.
- 24:43Speaker 2: That man is such in sorrows, not rejected, and enjoys,
- 24:49Speaker 2: not overjoyed, dwelling outside the stress of passion, fear, and
- 24:54Speaker 2: anger fixed in calms of lofty contemplation, which one is mooney,
- 25:01Speaker 2: is the sage, the true recluse. He who, to none
- 25:05Speaker 2: and nowhere, overbound by ties of flesh, takes evil things
- 25:10Speaker 2: and good, neither desponding nor exulting. Such bears Wisdom's plainest mark.
- 25:18Speaker 2: He who shall draw, as the wise tortoise draws its
- 25:21Speaker 2: four feet safe under its shield, his five frail senses
- 25:26Speaker 2: back under the spirit spuckler from the world which else
- 25:29Speaker 2: assails them. Such a one, my prince, hath Wisdom's mark.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Things that solicit sense hold off from the self governed. Nay,
- 25:41Speaker 2: it comes the appetites of him who lives beyond, depart
- 25:46Speaker 2: aroused no more. Yet, may it chance, o, son of COUNTI,
- 25:52Speaker 2: that a governed mind shall sometimes feel the sense storm
- 25:56Speaker 2: sweep and rest strong self control by the roots. Let
- 26:01Speaker 2: him regain his kingdom. Let him conquer this and sit
- 26:05Speaker 2: on me intent that man alone is wise who keeps
- 26:11Speaker 2: the mastery of himself. If one ponders on objects of
- 26:16Speaker 2: the sense, there springs attraction. From attraction grows desire, Desire
- 26:23Speaker 2: flames to fierce passion, passion breeds recklessness. Then the memory
- 26:29Speaker 2: all betrayed lets noble purpose go and SAPs the mind
- 26:34Speaker 2: till purpose. Mind and man are all undone. But if
- 26:39Speaker 2: one deals with objects of the sense, not loving and
- 26:43Speaker 2: not hating, making them serve his free soul, which rests serenely,
- 26:48Speaker 2: Lord Lo, such a man comes to tranquility, and out
- 26:53Speaker 2: of that tranquility shall rise the end and healing of
- 26:57Speaker 2: his earthly pains. Since the ill governed sets the soul
- 27:01Speaker 2: at peace. The soul of the ungoverned is not his
- 27:06Speaker 2: nor hathy. Knowledge of himself, which lacked, how grows serenity
- 27:13Speaker 2: and wanting that whence shall he hope for happiness. The
- 27:18Speaker 2: mind that gives itself to follow shows of sense, seeth
- 27:22Speaker 2: its helm of wisdom rent away, and like a ship
- 27:27Speaker 2: in waves of whirlwind, drives to wreck and death. Only
- 27:32Speaker 2: with him, great Prince, whose sense are not swayed by
- 27:36Speaker 2: things of sense. Only with him who holds his mastery,
- 27:41Speaker 2: shows wisdom perfect. What is midnight gloom to unenlightened souls
- 27:47Speaker 2: shines wakeful day is known for night, thick night of
- 27:52Speaker 2: ignorance to his true seeing eyes. Such is the saint,
- 27:59Speaker 2: And like the ocean, day by day, receiving floods from
- 28:03Speaker 2: all lands, which never overflows its boundary line, not leaping
- 28:08Speaker 2: and not leaving, fed by the rivers, but unswelled by those.
- 28:14Speaker 2: So is the perfect one to his soul's ocean, the
- 28:19Speaker 2: world of sense, poor streams of witchery. They leave him
- 28:24Speaker 2: as they find, without commotion, taking their tribute, but remaining.
- 28:29Speaker 2: See yea whoso shaking off the yoke of flesh, lives lord,
- 28:37Speaker 2: not servant of his lusts, set free from pride, from passion,
- 28:44Speaker 2: from the sin of self, toucheth tranquility o Pritha's sun.
- 28:51Speaker 2: That is the state of brahm. There rests no dread
- 28:56Speaker 2: when that last step is reached. Live where he will
- 29:01Speaker 2: die when he may such passeth from all planning to
- 29:05Speaker 2: blessed nirvana, with the gods attaining end of chapter.
- 29:14Speaker 3: Two, Chapter three Virtue in work Arjuna, though whom all
- 29:20Speaker 3: models praise Janardana. If meditation be a nobler thing than action, wherefore, then,
- 29:25Speaker 3: great Kishawa, dost thou impel me to this dreadful fight. Now,
- 29:29Speaker 3: am I by the doubtful speech disturbed? Tell me one thing,
- 29:33Speaker 3: and tell me certainly by what road shall I find
- 29:36Speaker 3: the better end? Chrishna, I told thee blameless Lord. There
- 29:41Speaker 3: be too. Path shown to this world two schools of wisdom.
- 29:45Speaker 3: First the shankies, which doth save in way of works
- 29:49Speaker 3: prescribe by reason. Next the yoke, which bids attained by
- 29:54Speaker 3: meditation spiritually. Yet these are one. No a man shall
- 30:00Speaker 3: escape from act by shunning action, nay, and none shall
- 30:05Speaker 3: come by mere renouncements unto perfectness nay. And no jot
- 30:11Speaker 3: of time at any time rests any actionless his nature's
- 30:15Speaker 3: law compels him, even unwilling, into act, For thought is
- 30:20Speaker 3: act and fancy. He who sits suppressing all the instruments
- 30:24Speaker 3: of flesh, yet in his idle heart thinking on them,
- 30:28Speaker 3: plays the inept and guilty hypocrite. But he who, with
- 30:32Speaker 3: strong body serving mind, gives up its mortal powers to
- 30:36Speaker 3: worthy work, not seeking gain arjuna, such ch an one
- 30:41Speaker 3: is honorable. Do thine allotted task. Work is more excellent
- 30:46Speaker 3: than idleness. The body's life proceeds not lacking work. There
- 30:52Speaker 3: is a task of holiness to do, unlike world binding toil,
- 30:56Speaker 3: which bindeth not the faithful soul. Such earthly duty do
- 31:00Speaker 3: free from desire, and those shall well perform thy heavenly purpose.
- 31:05Speaker 3: Spake Prajapati in the beginning when all men were made,
- 31:10Speaker 3: and with mankind the sacrifice, do this work, sacrifice, increase
- 31:17Speaker 3: and multiply with sacrifice. This shall be Kamaduk, your cow
- 31:22Speaker 3: of plenty, giving back her milk of all abundance. Worship
- 31:27Speaker 3: the gods. Thereby the gods shall yield their grace those
- 31:31Speaker 3: meats ye crave. The gods will grant to labor when
- 31:34Speaker 3: it pays tides in the altar flame. But if one
- 31:38Speaker 3: eat fruits of the earth, rendering to kindly heaven, no
- 31:41Speaker 3: gift of toil that thief steals from his world. Who
- 31:45Speaker 3: eat of food after their sacrifice are quit of fault.
- 31:49Speaker 3: But they that spread a feast all for themselves eat
- 31:53Speaker 3: sin and drink of sin. Buy food. The living, live
- 31:57Speaker 3: food comes of rain, and rain comes by the pious sacrifice,
- 32:02Speaker 3: and sacrifice is paid with tithes of toil. Thus action
- 32:08Speaker 3: is of Brahma, who is one the only all pervading,
- 32:12Speaker 3: at all times, present in sacrifice. He that abstains to
- 32:17Speaker 3: help the rolling wheels of this great world, glutting his
- 32:21Speaker 3: idle sense, lives a lost life, shameful and vain, existing
- 32:27Speaker 3: for himself, self concentrated, serving self alone, no part hath
- 32:32Speaker 3: he in aught, nothing achieved, no wrote or unrote toucheth him.
- 32:37Speaker 3: No hope of help for all the living things of
- 32:40Speaker 3: earth depends from him. Therefore, thy tasks, prescribed with spirit unattached,
- 32:47Speaker 3: gladly perform, since in performance of plain duty, man mounts
- 32:52Speaker 3: to his highest bliss by works alone, Janak and ancient
- 32:57Speaker 3: saints reached blessedness. Moreover, for the upholding of thy kind action,
- 33:02Speaker 3: thou shouldst embrace what the wise choose, the unwise people take,
- 33:06Speaker 3: what best men do, the multitude will follow. Look on me,
- 33:11Speaker 3: those son of Pritha in the three White worlds. I
- 33:14Speaker 3: am not bound to any toil. No height awaits to scale,
- 33:18Speaker 3: no gift remains to gain. Yet I act here. And
- 33:23Speaker 3: if I acted not earnest and watchful, those that look
- 33:27Speaker 3: to me for guidance sinking back to sloth again because
- 33:31Speaker 3: I slumbered would decline from good. And I should break
- 33:35Speaker 3: Earth's order and commit her off ring san to ruin Parada.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Even as the unknowing toil weddeth to sends. So let
- 33:43Speaker 3: the enlightened toil sense freed but set to bring the
- 33:47Speaker 3: world deliverance and its bliss, not sowing in those simple
- 33:51Speaker 3: busy hearts seeds of despair. Yea, let each play his
- 33:56Speaker 3: part in all he finds to do with unyoked soul.
- 34:00Speaker 3: All things are everywhere by nature wrote in interaction of
- 34:03Speaker 3: the qualities. The fool cheated by self things this I
- 34:08Speaker 3: did and that I wrote. But ah, those strong armed
- 34:13Speaker 3: prints a better less in mind, knowing the play of
- 34:17Speaker 3: visible things within the world of sense, and how the
- 34:21Speaker 3: qualities must qualify, standeth a loof even from his acts.
- 34:26Speaker 3: The untaught lived mixed with them, knowing not Nature's way
- 34:30Speaker 3: of highest aims. Unwitting, slow and dull, those make thee
- 34:36Speaker 3: not to stumble having the light. But all that due
- 34:40Speaker 3: is discharging for my sake, with meditation, centered inwardly seeking
- 34:47Speaker 3: no profit, satisfied, serene, heedless of issue, fight they who
- 34:55Speaker 3: shall keep my ordinance. Thus the wise and willing hearts
- 34:59Speaker 3: have wittens from all issue of their acts. But those
- 35:04Speaker 3: who disregard my ordinance, thinking they know, know not, and
- 35:09Speaker 3: fall to loss, confused and foolish. Sooth the instructed won
- 35:14Speaker 3: doth of his kind, following what fits him most, and
- 35:19Speaker 3: lower creatures of their kind in vain, contending against the
- 35:23Speaker 3: law needs must it be. The objects of the sense
- 35:26Speaker 3: will stir the sense to like and dislike. Yet the
- 35:30Speaker 3: enlightened man yields not to these, knowing them enemies. Finally,
- 35:36Speaker 3: this is better that one do his own task as
- 35:40Speaker 3: he may, even though he fail, than take tasks not
- 35:44Speaker 3: his own, though they seem good. To die performing duty
- 35:48Speaker 3: is no ill. But who seeks other roads shall wander
- 35:52Speaker 3: still Arjuna. Yet tell me, teacher, by what force doth
- 35:58Speaker 3: man go to his ill unwilling, as if one pushed
- 36:02Speaker 3: him that evil part Krishna calmaitis passion. It is born
- 36:09Speaker 3: of the darknesses which pusheth him mighty, of appetite, sinful
- 36:14Speaker 3: and strong. This is man's enemy. As smoke bloats the
- 36:20Speaker 3: white fire, as clinging rust masks the bright mirror, as
- 36:24Speaker 3: the womb surrounds the babe unborn, so is the world
- 36:28Speaker 3: of things foiled, soiled, enclosed in the desire of flesh.
- 36:33Speaker 3: The wise fall caught in it, the unresting foe. It
- 36:38Speaker 3: is of wisdom, wearing countless forms, fair but deceitful, subtle
- 36:44Speaker 3: as a flame sense, mind and reason, These o kuntisan
- 36:49Speaker 3: are booty for it. In its play with these, it
- 36:53Speaker 3: maddens man, beguiling, blinding him. Therefore, though noblest child of Pareta,
- 37:00Speaker 3: govern thy heart constrained, the entangled sense rests the false
- 37:05Speaker 3: soft sinfulness, which SAPs knowledge and judgment. Yeare the world
- 37:11Speaker 3: is strong, But what discerns it stronger? And the mind's
- 37:14Speaker 3: strongest and high overall the ruling soul. Wherefore, perceiving him
- 37:21Speaker 3: who reigns Supreme, put forth full force of soul in
- 37:25Speaker 3: thy own soul, fight vanquish fores and doubts. Dear hero,
- 37:30Speaker 3: slave haunts thee infawned shapes, and would betray Here ended
- 37:36Speaker 3: chapter three of the Pagawakita.
- 37:38Speaker 4: Chapter four. Krishna, this tatless yoga, this deep union, I
- 37:46Speaker 4: taught Viiswata, the lord of Light Viswata to Manu, gave
- 37:51Speaker 4: it he to Ishwaku, so passed it down the line
- 37:56Speaker 4: of all my royal Rishis. Then with years the truth
- 38:00Speaker 4: grew dim and perished. Noble Prince, now once again to thee.
- 38:05Speaker 4: It is declared this ancient lore, this mystery supreme, Seeing
- 38:10Speaker 4: I find thee votary and friend thy birth dear Lord
- 38:16Speaker 4: was in these later days and bright Viswata's preceded time.
- 38:21Speaker 4: How shall I comprehend this thing? Thou sayst from the beginning.
- 38:25Speaker 4: It was I who taught many fold. The renewals of
- 38:29Speaker 4: my birth have been urgent, and of thy birds too.
- 38:33Speaker 4: But mine I know, and thine thou knowest not, O
- 38:37Speaker 4: slayer of thy foes. Albet, I be unborn, undying, indestructible,
- 38:43Speaker 4: the lord of all things, living not the less. By maya,
- 38:47Speaker 4: by my magic, which I stamp on floating nature forms
- 38:52Speaker 4: the primal vast, I come and go, and come when
- 38:56Speaker 4: righteousness declines, O Bhareth, when vicked witness is strong, I
- 39:01Speaker 4: rise from age to age, and take visible shape and
- 39:06Speaker 4: move man with men, succoring the good, thrusting the evil back,
- 39:13Speaker 4: and setting virtue on her seat again, who knows the truth,
- 39:17Speaker 4: touching my birds on earth and my divine work. When
- 39:21Speaker 4: he quits, the flesh puts on its load, no more falls,
- 39:25Speaker 4: no more down to earthly birth to me. He comes,
- 39:29Speaker 4: Dear Prince. Many there be who come from fear, set
- 39:34Speaker 4: free from anger, from desire, keeping their hearts fixed upon me,
- 39:40Speaker 4: my faithful, purified by sacred flame of knowledge. Such as
- 39:45Speaker 4: these mix with my being. Whoso worship me them I exalt.
- 39:52Speaker 4: But all men everywhere shall fall into my path a bed,
- 39:56Speaker 4: those souls which seek reward for works. Make sacrifice. Now
- 40:00Speaker 4: to the lower gods, I say to thee, here have
- 40:05Speaker 4: they their reward? But I am he made the forecasts
- 40:12Speaker 4: and portioned them a place after their qualities and gifts. Ye,
- 40:17Speaker 4: I created the reporseful, I that live immortally made all
- 40:22Speaker 4: those mortal birds for works soil, not my essence, being
- 40:26Speaker 4: works wrought uninvolved, who knows me? Acting thus unchained by action?
- 40:33Speaker 4: Action binds not him, and so perceiving. All those saints
- 40:38Speaker 4: of old worked seeking for deliverance. Worked thou as in
- 40:43Speaker 4: the days gone by thy fathers, did thou sayest perplexed?
- 40:49Speaker 4: It had been asked before by singers and by sages,
- 40:52Speaker 4: what is act and what is in action? I will
- 40:56Speaker 4: teach thee this, and now, knowing thou shalt learn, which
- 41:01Speaker 4: work doth save needs? Must one rightly meditate those three doing,
- 41:09Speaker 4: not doing, and undoing. Here thorny and dark the path
- 41:15Speaker 4: is he who sees how action may be rest rest action.
- 41:19Speaker 4: He is wisest mid his kind. He had the truth.
- 41:24Speaker 4: He doth well acting or resting, freed in all his
- 41:28Speaker 4: works from prickings of desire, burned clean in act by
- 41:32Speaker 4: the white fire of truth. The wise call, why that
- 41:36Speaker 4: man wise, and such a one, renouncing fruit of deeds,
- 41:42Speaker 4: always content, always self satisfying. If he works, doth nothing
- 41:48Speaker 4: that shall stain his separate soul, which quit a fear
- 41:51Speaker 4: in hope, subduing self, rejecting outward impulse, yielding up to body.
- 41:57Speaker 4: Bodies need nothing save body dwells sinless, amid all sin,
- 42:04Speaker 4: with equal calm, taking what may befall by grief, unmoved,
- 42:09Speaker 4: unmoved by joy, unenvyingly the same in good and evil fortunes,
- 42:16Speaker 4: no wise bound by bond of deeds. Nay, but of
- 42:21Speaker 4: such a one whose crave is gone, whose soul is liberate,
- 42:25Speaker 4: whose heart is set on truth, And of such a
- 42:28Speaker 4: one whose work he does is work of sacrifice, which
- 42:33Speaker 4: pass it purely into ash and smoke, consumed upon altar.
- 42:39Speaker 4: All's then God. The sacrifice is Brumma. The ghee and
- 42:43Speaker 4: grain are Brumma, the fire is brummer, and the flesh
- 42:47Speaker 4: it eats is Brumma. And on to Brumma attain he
- 42:51Speaker 4: who in such office meditates on Brumma. Some votaries there
- 42:56Speaker 4: be who serve the gods with flesh and altar smoke,
- 43:00Speaker 4: but other some who lighting subtler fires make purer right
- 43:05Speaker 4: with will of worship of the which be. They who,
- 43:09Speaker 4: in white flame of countenance consume joys of the sense,
- 43:13Speaker 4: delights of ear and eye, foregoing tender speech and sound
- 43:18Speaker 4: of song. And they who, kindling fires with torch of truth,
- 43:23Speaker 4: burn on a hidden altar stone the bliss of youth
- 43:26Speaker 4: and love, renouncing happiness. And they who lay for offering
- 43:31Speaker 4: their their wealth, their penance, meditation, piety, their steadfast reading
- 43:37Speaker 4: of the scrolls, their lore painfully gained with long austerities.
- 43:42Speaker 4: And they who, making silent sacrifice, draw in their breath
- 43:46Speaker 4: to feed the flame of thought, and breathe it forth
- 43:50Speaker 4: to waft the heart on high, governing the vintage of
- 43:55Speaker 4: each entering air, lest one sigh pass which hath held
- 44:00Speaker 4: not the soul. And they who, day by day, denying needs,
- 44:04Speaker 4: lay life itself upon the altar flame, burning the body
- 44:09Speaker 4: van lo. All these keep the right of offering, as
- 44:13Speaker 4: if they slew victims, and all thereby efface mut sin ye.
- 44:18Speaker 4: And who feed on the immortal food left of such
- 44:22Speaker 4: sacrifice to brumma passed to the unending. But for him
- 44:27Speaker 4: that makes no sacrifice, he hath nor part, nor lot
- 44:32Speaker 4: even in the present world, How should he share another
- 44:36Speaker 4: of thou glory of thy line in sight of Brahma.
- 44:40Speaker 4: All these offerings are spread and are accepted, comprehend that
- 44:44Speaker 4: all proceed by act. For knowing this, thou shalt be
- 44:48Speaker 4: quit of doubt. The sacrifice which knowledge pays is better
- 44:53Speaker 4: than great sacrifice or great gifts offered by wealth, Since
- 44:59Speaker 4: gifts worth O, my Prince, lies in the mind which
- 45:03Speaker 4: gives the will that serves. And these are gained by reverence,
- 45:08Speaker 4: by strong search, by humble heed of those who see
- 45:11Speaker 4: the truth and teach it. Knowing truth, thy heart no
- 45:15Speaker 4: more will ache with error, For the truth shall show
- 45:19Speaker 4: all things subdued to THEE, and thou to me moreover,
- 45:24Speaker 4: son of Pandu, wert thou worst of all wrongdoers. This
- 45:28Speaker 4: fair ship of truth should bear THEE safe and dry
- 45:31Speaker 4: across the sea of thy transgressions. As the kindled flame
- 45:36Speaker 4: of feeds on the fuel till it sinks to ash
- 45:41Speaker 4: so on to ash Urjada, onto nought, the flame of
- 45:46Speaker 4: knowledge wastees works draws away. There is no purer like
- 45:51Speaker 4: there too in all this world, and he who seeks
- 45:54Speaker 4: it shall find it, being grown perfect in himself. Believing
- 45:59Speaker 4: he receives it when the soul masters itself and cleaves
- 46:03Speaker 4: to truth and comes possessing knowledge to the higher peace
- 46:07Speaker 4: the utmost reports. But those untaught and those without full faith,
- 46:14Speaker 4: and those who fear are shent. No peace is here
- 46:18Speaker 4: or otherware, no hope nor happiness for whoso doubts heat, that,
- 46:24Speaker 4: being self contained, hath vanquished doubt, disparting self from service,
- 46:30Speaker 4: soul from works, enlightened and emancipate my prince. Works fetter
- 46:36Speaker 4: him no more cut then a twin with sword of wisdom,
- 46:41Speaker 4: son of Bareth. This doubt that binds thy heart beats,
- 46:45Speaker 4: cleave the bond born of thy ignorance. Be bold and
- 46:49Speaker 4: wise give thyself to the field with me arise. End
- 46:55Speaker 4: of chapter four.
- 46:56Speaker 5: Chapter five, the Book of Religion. By renouncing free of works,
- 47:02Speaker 5: Ardu now yet Krishna, at the one time thou dost Lord,
- 47:07Speaker 5: surcease of works, and at another time service through work.
- 47:13Speaker 5: Of these Twain plainly tell which is the better way, Krishna.
- 47:19Speaker 5: To cease from works is well, and to do works
- 47:23Speaker 5: in holiness is well, and both conduct to bliss supreme.
- 47:28Speaker 5: But of these Twain the better way is his who
- 47:31Speaker 5: working piously refraineth not. That is the true renouncer, firm
- 47:37Speaker 5: and fixed, who seeking nought rejecteth nought, dwells proof against
- 47:44Speaker 5: the opposites, that is joy and sorrow, success and failure,
- 47:49Speaker 5: heat and cold, etc. O. Valiant prince, in doing such
- 47:55Speaker 5: breaks lightly from all deed. Tis the new scholar talks
- 48:00Speaker 5: as they were two, this Sankia and this yoga. Wise
- 48:06Speaker 5: men know who husband's one plucks golden fruit of both
- 48:11Speaker 5: the region of high rest which Sanchian's reach yogins attain.
- 48:17Speaker 5: Who sees these twain as one sees with clear eyes.
- 48:21Speaker 5: Yet such abstraction chief is hard to win without much holiness.
- 48:27Speaker 5: Who is fixed in holiness, self ruled, pure hearted, lord
- 48:33Speaker 5: of senses and of self lost in the common life
- 48:36Speaker 5: of all which lives a yoga yucht he is a
- 48:40Speaker 5: saint who whens straightway to Brahm. Such an one is
- 48:46Speaker 5: not touched by taint of deeds nought of myself I do.
- 48:51Speaker 5: Thus will he think? Who holds the truth of truths
- 48:55Speaker 5: in seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, when he eats or goes,
- 49:01Speaker 5: or breathes, slumbers or talks, holds fast or loosens, opens
- 49:07Speaker 5: his eyes or shuts always assured. This is the sense
- 49:12Speaker 5: world plays with senses. He that acts in thought of brahm,
- 49:18Speaker 5: detaching end from act with act content. The world of
- 49:23Speaker 5: sense can no more stain his soul than waters mar
- 49:27Speaker 5: the enameled lotus, leaf with life, with heart, with mind, nay,
- 49:33Speaker 5: with the help of all five senses. Letting selfhard go
- 49:38Speaker 5: Jogan's toil, ever towards their soul's release, Such votaries renouncing
- 49:44Speaker 5: fruit of deeds, gain endless peace. The unvowed, the passion
- 49:49Speaker 5: bound seeking a fruit from works, are fastened down. The
- 49:54Speaker 5: embodied sage withdrawn within his soul at every act sits
- 49:59Speaker 5: God god like in the town which hath nine gateways,
- 50:04Speaker 5: I either body, neither doing aught nor causing any deed.
- 50:11Speaker 5: This world's lord makes neither the work, nor passion for
- 50:15Speaker 5: the work, nor lust for fruit of work. The man's
- 50:18Speaker 5: own self pushes to these. The master of this world
- 50:24Speaker 5: takes on himself the good or evil deeds of no man.
- 50:28Speaker 5: Dwelling beyond mankind heirs here by folly darkening knowledge, but
- 50:35Speaker 5: for whom that darkness of the soul is chased by light,
- 50:39Speaker 5: splendid and clear shines, manifest the truth as if a
- 50:43Speaker 5: sun of wisdom sprang to shed its beams of dawn,
- 50:48Speaker 5: him meditating, still him seeking with him, blended, stayed on him.
- 50:54Speaker 5: The souls illuminated take that road which hath no turning back,
- 50:59Speaker 5: their sins flung off by strength of faith. Who will
- 51:04Speaker 5: may have this light? Who hath it? Sees? To him
- 51:08Speaker 5: who wisely sees the Brahman with his scrolls and sanctities,
- 51:13Speaker 5: The cow, the elephant, the unclean dog, the outcast gorging
- 51:18Speaker 5: dog's meat, are all one. The world is overcome. I
- 51:24Speaker 5: even hear by such as fix their faith on unity.
- 51:28Speaker 5: The sinless Brama dwells in unity. And they in Brahma
- 51:33Speaker 5: be not over glad, attaining joy, and be not over sad,
- 51:38Speaker 5: encountering grief, but stayed on Brama, still constant. Let each abide.
- 51:45Speaker 5: The sage, whose soul holds off from outer contacts, in
- 51:50Speaker 5: himself finds bliss to Brahma. Joined by piety, his spirit
- 51:56Speaker 5: tastes eternal peace. The joys springing from sense life are
- 52:01Speaker 5: but quickening wombs which breed sure griefs. Those joys begin
- 52:07Speaker 5: and end. The wise mind takes no pleasure Kunti's son
- 52:12Speaker 5: in such as those. But if a man shall learn,
- 52:16Speaker 5: even while he lives and bears his body's chain to
- 52:20Speaker 5: master lust and anger. He is blessed. He is the Yuctar.
- 52:25Speaker 5: He hath happiness, contentment, light within his life is merged
- 52:31Speaker 5: in Brahma's life. He doth Nirvana touch. Thus go the
- 52:36Speaker 5: rishis unto rest, who dwell with sins, effaced with doubts,
- 52:41Speaker 5: at end, with hearts governed and calm, glad in all good.
- 52:48Speaker 5: They live nigh to the peace of God. And all
- 52:51Speaker 5: those live who pass their days exempt from greed and wrath,
- 52:56Speaker 5: subduing self and senses, knowing the soul, the saint who
- 53:02Speaker 5: shuts outside his placid soul all touch of sense, letting
- 53:06Speaker 5: no contact through whose quiet eyes gaze straight from fixed brows,
- 53:12Speaker 5: whose outward breath and inward breath are drawn equal and
- 53:16Speaker 5: slow through nostrils still and close. That one, with organ's
- 53:21Speaker 5: heart and mind constrained, bent on deliverance, having put away
- 53:25Speaker 5: passion and fear and rage, hath even now obtained deliverance,
- 53:31Speaker 5: ever and ever freed. YEA, for he knows me, who
- 53:36Speaker 5: am he that heeds the sacrifice and worship God revealed,
- 53:42Speaker 5: And he who heeds not being lord of worlds lover
- 53:46Speaker 5: of all that lives God unrevealed, wherein who will shall
- 53:52Speaker 5: find surety and shield? Here ends Chapter five of the
- 53:58Speaker 5: Bagavad Gita six Krishna.
- 54:04Speaker 6: Therefore, who doeth work rightful to do, not seeking gain
- 54:08Speaker 6: from work? That man o prince is Sunyasi and Yogi
- 54:13Speaker 6: both in one, And he is neither who lights not
- 54:17Speaker 6: the flame of sacrifice, nor setteth hand to task. Regard
- 54:22Speaker 6: as true renouncer him that makes worship by work, For
- 54:26Speaker 6: who renounceth not works not as yogan, so is that
- 54:31Speaker 6: well said by works the votary doth rise to saint,
- 54:35Speaker 6: and saintship is the ceasing from all works. Because the
- 54:39Speaker 6: perfect yogin acts, but acts unmoved by passions and unbound
- 54:44Speaker 6: by deeds, setting result aside. Let each man raise the
- 54:50Speaker 6: self by soul, not trample down his self, since soul
- 54:54Speaker 6: that is self's friend may grow self's foe. Soul is
- 54:59Speaker 6: self's friend when self doth rule over self, but self
- 55:03Speaker 6: turns enemy. If soul's own self hate self as not itself.
- 55:10Speaker 6: The sovereign soul of him who live, self governed and
- 55:13Speaker 6: at peace, is centered in itself, taking alike pleasure and pain, heat, cold,
- 55:20Speaker 6: glory and shame. He is the Yogi. He is Yukta,
- 55:25Speaker 6: glad with joy of light and truth, dwelling apart upon
- 55:29Speaker 6: a peak, with senses subjugate. Where to the cloud, the rock,
- 55:34Speaker 6: the glistering gold, show all as one. By this sign
- 55:39Speaker 6: is he known, being of equal grace to comrades, friends, chance, comers, strangers, lovers, enemies,
- 55:47Speaker 6: aliens and kinsmen, loving all alike, evil or good sequestered.
- 55:53Speaker 6: Should he sit steadfastly, meditating, solitary, his thoughts controlled, his
- 55:59Speaker 6: passion laid away, quit of belongings, in a fair still spot,
- 56:05Speaker 6: having his fixed abode not too much raised, nor yet
- 56:09Speaker 6: too low. Let him abide his goods a cloth, a
- 56:13Speaker 6: deer skin, and the cusa grass. There, setting heart his
- 56:18Speaker 6: mind upon the one restraining heart and senses silent calm.
- 56:24Speaker 6: Let him accomplish yoga and achieve pureness of soul, holding
- 56:29Speaker 6: immovable body and neck and head, his gaze absorbed upon
- 56:34Speaker 6: his nose, end wrapped from all around, tranquil in spirit,
- 56:39Speaker 6: free of fear, intent upon his Brahmacharya, vow devout, musing
- 56:44Speaker 6: on me, lost in the thought of me, that Yogans
- 56:49Speaker 6: so devoted, so controlled, comes to the piece beyond my peace,
- 56:55Speaker 6: the peace of high nirvana. But for earthly need. Religion
- 57:01Speaker 6: is not his who too much fasts or too much feasts,
- 57:05Speaker 6: nor his who sleeps away in idle mind, nor his
- 57:09Speaker 6: who wears to waste his strength and vigils. Nay Arjuna
- 57:14Speaker 6: call that the true piety which most removes earth aches
- 57:18Speaker 6: and ills. Where one is moderate in eating and in resting,
- 57:22Speaker 6: and in sport, measured in wish and act, sleeping betimes,
- 57:27Speaker 6: waking betimes for duty. When the man so living centers
- 57:32Speaker 6: on his soul the thought straightly, restrained, untouched internally by
- 57:37Speaker 6: stress of sense, Then is he yuctah see steadfast a
- 57:43Speaker 6: lamp burns shelter'd from the wind. Such is the likeness
- 57:47Speaker 6: of the Jogi's mind shut from sense, storms in burning
- 57:52Speaker 6: bright to heaven when mind broods placid, soothed with holy
- 57:56Speaker 6: wont when self contemplates self and in itself hath comfort
- 58:02Speaker 6: when it knows the nameless joy beyond all scope of sense,
- 58:06Speaker 6: revealed to soul only to soul, and knowing wavers not
- 58:12Speaker 6: true to the farther truth. When holding this, it deems
- 58:17Speaker 6: no other treasure comparable. But harbored, there cannot be stirred
- 58:22Speaker 6: or shook by any gravest grief. Call that state peace,
- 58:27Speaker 6: that happy severance. Yoga, Call that man the perfect Yogin
- 58:33Speaker 6: steadfastly the will must toil, thereto till efforts end in ease,
- 58:39Speaker 6: and thought has passed from thinking, shaking off all longings,
- 58:44Speaker 6: bread by dreams of fame and gain, shutting the doorways
- 58:48Speaker 6: of the senses close with watchful ward. So step by
- 58:53Speaker 6: step it comes to gift of peace assured and heart assuaged.
- 58:58Speaker 6: When the mind dwells self wrapped and the soul broods cumberless.
- 59:04Speaker 6: But as often as the heart breaks, wild and wavering
- 59:08Speaker 6: from control, so often let him recurb it, let him
- 59:13Speaker 6: rein it, back to the soul's governance. For perfect bliss
- 59:17Speaker 6: grows only in the bosom, tranquilized, the spirit, passionless, purged
- 59:22Speaker 6: from a fence, vowed to the infinite, He who thus
- 59:27Speaker 6: vows his soul to the supreme Soul, quitting sin, passes unhindered,
- 59:33Speaker 6: to the enlistless of unity with Brahma. He so vowed,
- 59:38Speaker 6: so blended, sees the life's soul resident in all things living,
- 59:43Speaker 6: and all living things in that life's soul contained, and
- 59:47Speaker 6: whoso thus discerneth me in all and all in me.
- 59:52Speaker 6: I never let him go, nor looseneth he hold upon me,
- 59:57Speaker 6: but dwell where he may whate'er his life. In me.
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: He dwells and lives because he knows and worships me,
- 1:00:05Speaker 6: who dwell in all which lives, and cleaves to me
- 1:00:09Speaker 6: in all, Arjuna. If a man sees everywhere taught by
- 1:00:14Speaker 6: his own similitude, one life, one essence, and the evil
- 1:00:18Speaker 6: and the good, hold him a yogi, yea well perfected Arjuna,
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: slayer of Madu. Yet again, this yog, this peace derived
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: from equanimity made known by THEE. I see no fixity,
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: therein no rest, because the heart of men is unfixed.
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: Krishna rash tumultuous, wilful, and strong. It were all one,
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: I think to hold the wayward wind as tame man's heart.
- 1:00:50Speaker 6: Krishna hero long armed beyond denial. Hard man's heart is
- 1:00:56Speaker 6: to restrain and wavering. Yet may it grow strained by habit, Prince,
- 1:01:02Speaker 6: by want of self command? This yogi, I say, cometh
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: not lightly to the ungoverned ones. But he who will
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: be master of himself shall win it, if he stoutly
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: strive thereto Arjuna. In what road goeth he who, having
- 1:01:21Speaker 6: faith fails Krishna in the striving, falling back from holiness,
- 1:01:26Speaker 6: missing the perfect rule? Is he not lost? Straining from
- 1:01:30Speaker 6: Brahma's light Like the vain cloud which floats TwixT earth
- 1:01:34Speaker 6: and heaven, when lightning splits it and it vanisheth?
- 1:01:38Speaker 5: Fain?
- 1:01:38Speaker 6: Would I hear thee answer me herein? Since Krishna, none
- 1:01:42Speaker 6: save thou, can clear the doubt. Krishna, he is not lost,
- 1:01:48Speaker 6: Thou son of Prita. No nor earth nor heaven is
- 1:01:52Speaker 6: forfeit even for him, because no heart that holds one
- 1:01:56Speaker 6: right desire treadeth the road of loss. He who should
- 1:02:01Speaker 6: fail desiring righteousness cometh at death unto the region of
- 1:02:05Speaker 6: the just, dwells there measureless years, and being born anew
- 1:02:10Speaker 6: beginneth life again in some fair home amid the mild
- 1:02:14Speaker 6: and happy. It may chance he doth descend into a
- 1:02:18Speaker 6: yogan's house on Virtue's breast, but that is rare. Such
- 1:02:23Speaker 6: birth is hard to be obtained on this earth. Chief,
- 1:02:26Speaker 6: so hath he back again what heights of heart he
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: did achieve, And so he strives anew to perfectness with
- 1:02:34Speaker 6: better hope, dear Prince, for by the old desire he
- 1:02:38Speaker 6: is drawn on unwittingly, and only to desire. The purity
- 1:02:42Speaker 6: of yoga is to pass beyond the shabdebrahm the spoken vade.
- 1:02:47Speaker 6: But being Yogi, striving strong and long, purged from transgressions,
- 1:02:53Speaker 6: perfected by births, following on births, he plants his feet
- 1:02:57Speaker 6: at last upon the farther path. Such an one ranks
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: above ascetics, higher than the wise, beyond achievers of vast deeds,
- 1:03:07Speaker 6: be thou Yogi Arjuna, and of such believe truest and
- 1:03:12Speaker 6: best is he who worships me with inmost soul stayed
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: on my mystery. Here endeth Chapter six.
- 1:03:22Speaker 7: Chapter seven. Christna, learn now, dear Prince, how if thy
- 1:03:28Speaker 7: soul be set ever on me, still exercising you, still
- 1:03:33Speaker 7: making me thy refuge, thou shalt come most surely into
- 1:03:37Speaker 7: perfect hold of me. I'll declare to me that at
- 1:03:41Speaker 7: most low, whole and particular, which when thou knowst leavest
- 1:03:46Speaker 7: no more to know. Here in this world of many
- 1:03:49Speaker 7: thousand mortals, one perchance striveth for truth. And of those
- 1:03:53Speaker 7: few that strive me and rise high, one only here
- 1:03:57Speaker 7: and there knoweth me as I am the very truth
- 1:04:00Speaker 7: the earth, water, flame, air, ether, life, and mind, And
- 1:04:04Speaker 7: individually those eight make up the showing of me manifest.
- 1:04:09Speaker 7: These be my lower nature learn the higher. Whereby, though
- 1:04:13Speaker 7: valiant one, his innivers is by its principle of life produced,
- 1:04:18Speaker 7: whereby the worlds of visible things are born, as from
- 1:04:21Speaker 7: a yonie. No I am that womb. I make and
- 1:04:24Speaker 7: die unmake this universe than me. There is no other master, prince,
- 1:04:29Speaker 7: no other maker. All these hang on me as hangs
- 1:04:33Speaker 7: a row of pearlse upon its string. I am the
- 1:04:36Speaker 7: fresh taste of the water. I the silver of the moon,
- 1:04:39Speaker 7: the bold of the sun, the word of worship in
- 1:04:41Speaker 7: the waves, the thrill that passeth in the ether, and
- 1:04:45Speaker 7: the strength of a man's shed sea. I am the good,
- 1:04:48Speaker 7: sweet smell of the moists in the earth. I am
- 1:04:50Speaker 7: the fire's red light, a whtal air moving in all
- 1:04:53Speaker 7: which moves, the holiness of hollowed souls, the root and
- 1:04:57Speaker 7: dying whence hats sprung wateries, the wisdom of the wise,
- 1:05:01Speaker 7: the intellect of the informed, the greatness of the great,
- 1:05:04Speaker 7: the splendor of the splendid Unti's son. These am I
- 1:05:08Speaker 7: free from passion and desire, Yet am I right desire
- 1:05:12Speaker 7: in all who yearn chief of the Barathas, for all
- 1:05:16Speaker 7: those moods soop fast or passionate or ignorant, which nature
- 1:05:20Speaker 7: frames deduce from me. But all are merged in me,
- 1:05:24Speaker 7: not I in them. The world deceived by those three
- 1:05:27Speaker 7: qualities of being wotteth not me, who am outside them,
- 1:05:32Speaker 7: all above them, all eternal. Hard it is to pierce
- 1:05:36Speaker 7: that veil divine of various shows, which hideth me. Yet
- 1:05:40Speaker 7: they who worship me pierce it and pass beyond. I
- 1:05:44Speaker 7: am not known to evil doers, nor to foolish ones,
- 1:05:48Speaker 7: nor to the base and churlish, nor to those whose
- 1:05:51Speaker 7: mind is cheated by the show of things, nor those
- 1:05:54Speaker 7: that take the way of asuras. Four sorts of mortals
- 1:05:58Speaker 7: know me he who weeps Arjuna, and the man who
- 1:06:02Speaker 7: yearns to know, and he who toils to help, and
- 1:06:06Speaker 7: he who sits certain of me enlightened. Of these four, O,
- 1:06:11Speaker 7: Prince of India, highest nearest best. That last is the
- 1:06:15Speaker 7: duo's soul wise intent upon the one dear above all.
- 1:06:21Speaker 7: Am I to him, and he is dearest and to
- 1:06:24Speaker 7: me all for our good and seek me but mine, O,
- 1:06:28Speaker 7: the two of heart, the faithful stayed on me, taking
- 1:06:32Speaker 7: me as their utmost blessedness. They are not mine, But
- 1:06:36Speaker 7: I even I myself art in love many births to me.
- 1:06:40Speaker 7: They come yet hard The wise Mahatma is to find
- 1:06:44Speaker 7: that man who saith all is was there there be
- 1:06:49Speaker 7: those two whose knowledge turned aside by this desire or
- 1:06:53Speaker 7: that gives them to serve some lower gods with various rights,
- 1:06:57Speaker 7: constrained by that which molder them. Unto all such worship
- 1:07:02Speaker 7: What shrine they will, what shapes in faith? It's I
- 1:07:06Speaker 7: who give them faith. I am content the heart thus
- 1:07:10Speaker 7: asking favor from its God. Darkened but ordered hath the end.
- 1:07:15Speaker 7: It graves the lesser blessing. But it's I who give.
- 1:07:19Speaker 7: Yet soon is withered. What small fruit they read? Those
- 1:07:23Speaker 7: men of little minds who worship, so go where they worshiped,
- 1:07:27Speaker 7: passing with their guards. But mind come unto me blind
- 1:07:31Speaker 7: or the eyes which deemed unmanifested manifest not comprehending me
- 1:07:37Speaker 7: in my true self, imperishable, ruseless, undeclared, hidden behind my
- 1:07:43Speaker 7: magic veil of shows, I am not seen by all.
- 1:07:46Speaker 7: I am not known, unborn and changeless to the idle world.
- 1:07:51Speaker 7: But I arju not know all things which were, and
- 1:07:55Speaker 7: all which are, and all which are to be. Albeit
- 1:07:58Speaker 7: not one among them know me by passion for the
- 1:08:02Speaker 7: past of opposites, by those twins slats of like and dislike. Prince,
- 1:08:09Speaker 7: all creatures is bewildered, save some few who quit of sins,
- 1:08:14Speaker 7: holy enact informed, freed from the opposites, and fixed in faith.
- 1:08:18Speaker 7: Clave one to me who p who seek in me,
- 1:08:22Speaker 7: refuse from birth and death. Those have the truth, those
- 1:08:26Speaker 7: know me from Ma, know me soul of souls, the Adjakman,
- 1:08:32Speaker 7: no karma my work, No I am. Are the Buddha
- 1:08:36Speaker 7: lot of life? And are the Deva a lot of
- 1:08:40Speaker 7: all the gods? And are then Lord of sacrifice. Worship
- 1:08:45Speaker 7: me well with hearts of love and faith, and find
- 1:08:48Speaker 7: and hold me in the hour of death. Here in
- 1:08:53Speaker 7: the chapter seven, Chapter eight of Religion, by devotion to
- 1:08:57Speaker 7: the One Supreme God O Juna. Who is that Brahma?
- 1:09:01Speaker 7: What that soul of souls? The at the Yakman? What
- 1:09:04Speaker 7: thou best of all thy work the Karma? Tell me
- 1:09:07Speaker 7: what it is? Thou namest are the Buddha? What again
- 1:09:11Speaker 7: means are the Deva a? And how it comes? Thou
- 1:09:14Speaker 7: canst be Ja in thy flesh, slayer of Madhu. Further
- 1:09:18Speaker 7: make me know how good men find THEE in the
- 1:09:20Speaker 7: hour of death. Krishna I Brahma am the one eternal God.
- 1:09:26Speaker 7: And at the Yakman is my being's name, the soul
- 1:09:30Speaker 7: of souls. What weeth from me, causing all life to
- 1:09:33Speaker 7: live is karma called and manifested in divided forms. I
- 1:09:37Speaker 7: am the Ah, the Buddha, lord of lives. And are
- 1:09:41Speaker 7: the Deva, lord of all the gods, because I am
- 1:09:44Speaker 7: Poorsha who begets, and are the Yegna, lord of sacrifice.
- 1:09:49Speaker 7: I speaking with THEE in this body. Here am thou
- 1:09:52Speaker 7: embodied one for all the shrine's flame unto me. And
- 1:09:57Speaker 7: at the hour of death, he that hath meditated me alone,
- 1:10:00Speaker 7: in putting off his flesh, comes forth to me, enters
- 1:10:04Speaker 7: into my being. Doubt thou not, But if he meditated otherwise,
- 1:10:09Speaker 7: at hour of death, in putting off the flesh, he
- 1:10:12Speaker 7: goes to what he looked for, Kunti's son. Because the
- 1:10:16Speaker 7: soul is fashioned tweets like. Have me then in thy
- 1:10:20Speaker 7: heart always, and fight thou too. When heart and mind
- 1:10:25Speaker 7: are fixed on me, shall surely come to me. All
- 1:10:28Speaker 7: come who clear with never waving will of firmest faith,
- 1:10:33Speaker 7: owning none other gods. All come to me, the uttermost Prussia, holyest.
- 1:10:39Speaker 7: Whoso hath known me, Lord of sage and singer ancient
- 1:10:43Speaker 7: of days, of all the three worlds, stay boundless, but
- 1:10:47Speaker 7: unto every atom, bringer of that which quickens it. Whoso
- 1:10:51Speaker 7: I say, hath known my form, which passeth mortal, knowing
- 1:10:55Speaker 7: seen my effelguns which know I had seen, Then the
- 1:10:59Speaker 7: sun's burns in gold, more brightly glowing, whispering darkness. Unto
- 1:11:04Speaker 7: him hath been right life. And in the hour when
- 1:11:08Speaker 7: life is ending, with mindset fast and trustful piety, drawing
- 1:11:12Speaker 7: still breathed beneath com rose and bending in happy peace,
- 1:11:17Speaker 7: that faithful one doth die in glad peace passeth to
- 1:11:21Speaker 7: push us heaven, the place which they who read the
- 1:11:24Speaker 7: way Tha's name Achraum ultimate were to have striven saints
- 1:11:29Speaker 7: and ascetics. Their road is the same that way, the
- 1:11:33Speaker 7: highest way goes He who shuts the gates of all
- 1:11:36Speaker 7: his sense, locks desire, safe in his heart, centers the
- 1:11:40Speaker 7: vital airs upon his parting thought steadfastly set and murmuring, Oh,
- 1:11:46Speaker 7: The sacred syllable emblem of Broum dies meditating me, for
- 1:11:51Speaker 7: who none other God's regarding looks ever to me, easily
- 1:11:55Speaker 7: am agained by such a yogi and attaining me, they fall,
- 1:12:00Speaker 7: not those mahatmass back to birth, to life, which is
- 1:12:04Speaker 7: the place of pain which ends. But take the way
- 1:12:06Speaker 7: of utmost pleasantness. The worlds a Juna, even Brahma's wild
- 1:12:12Speaker 7: roll back again from death to life's unrest. But they
- 1:12:15Speaker 7: o Kunti's son Bla reach to me, taste birth no more.
- 1:12:20Speaker 7: If he know Burma's day, which is a thousand yugas,
- 1:12:24Speaker 7: if he know the thousand hugas making Brahmas night, then
- 1:12:28Speaker 7: know ye day night, as he doth know. When that
- 1:12:32Speaker 7: vast dawn doth break, the invisible is brought a new
- 1:12:36Speaker 7: into the visible, when that deep night doth darken, all
- 1:12:40Speaker 7: which is faced back again to him who sent it
- 1:12:43Speaker 7: forth a This vast company of living things, again and
- 1:12:47Speaker 7: yet again produced, expires at Brahmas nightfall, and at Bremas
- 1:12:52Speaker 7: dawn rises without its will to life, newborn, but higher, deeper,
- 1:12:58Speaker 7: innermost abidesther life. Not like the life of sense, escaping sight, unchanging.
- 1:13:05Speaker 7: This endures when all created things have passed away. This
- 1:13:10Speaker 7: is that life named the unmanifest, the infinite, the all,
- 1:13:15Speaker 7: the aftermost thither, arriving non return. That life is mine,
- 1:13:20Speaker 7: and I am there and trinds by faith which wanders not.
- 1:13:25Speaker 7: There is a way to come thither. I the Purusha,
- 1:13:29Speaker 7: I who spread the universe around me, in whom well
- 1:13:33Speaker 7: all living things may so be rich and seen, richer
- 1:13:37Speaker 7: than holy fruit on vedas, growing greater than gifts, better
- 1:13:41Speaker 7: than prayer or fast. Such wisdom is the Yogi. This way,
- 1:13:46Speaker 7: knowing comes to the utmost perfect peace. At last, Here
- 1:13:51Speaker 7: indeth Chapter A of the Bagawad Guitar.
- 1:13:54Speaker 8: Chapter nine of Religion. By the kingly knowledge and the
- 1:13:59Speaker 8: kingly mystery Krishna. Now will I open unto thee whose
- 1:14:05Speaker 8: heart rejects not that lost lore deepest conceal'd that farthest
- 1:14:12Speaker 8: secret of my heavens and earths, which but to know
- 1:14:16Speaker 8: shall set thee free from ills, A royal lore, a
- 1:14:21Speaker 8: kingly mystery. Here for the soul, such light as purgeth
- 1:14:26Speaker 8: it from every sin, a light of holiness, with inmost splendor,
- 1:14:31Speaker 8: shining plain to see, easy to walk by, inexhaustible. They
- 1:14:38Speaker 8: that receive not this, failing in faith to grasp the
- 1:14:42Speaker 8: greater wisdom, reach not me, destroyer of thy foes. They
- 1:14:48Speaker 8: sink anew into the realm of flesh, where all things
- 1:14:52Speaker 8: change by me. The whole vast universe of things is
- 1:14:57Speaker 8: spread abroad by me, the unmanifest in me. Are all
- 1:15:03Speaker 8: existences contained, not I in them? Yet they are not
- 1:15:09Speaker 8: contained Those visible things receive and strive to embrace the
- 1:15:15Speaker 8: mystery majestical my being, creating, all sustaining, all still dwells
- 1:15:23Speaker 8: outside of all. See as the shoreless airs move in
- 1:15:28Speaker 8: the measureless space, but are not space and space wor
- 1:15:33Speaker 8: space without the moving airs. So all things are in me,
- 1:15:39Speaker 8: but are not I. At closing of each culpa Indian prints,
- 1:15:45Speaker 8: all things which be back to My being come at
- 1:15:49Speaker 8: the beginning of each culpa, all issue new born from
- 1:15:53Speaker 8: me by energy and help of Procrithi, my outer self.
- 1:16:00Speaker 8: Again and yet again I make go forth the realms
- 1:16:04Speaker 8: of visible things without their will, all of them by
- 1:16:09Speaker 8: the power of Procriti. Yet these great making sprints involve me,
- 1:16:16Speaker 8: not and chain me. Not I sit apart from them,
- 1:16:20Speaker 8: other and higher and free, no wise attached. Thus doth
- 1:16:26Speaker 8: the stuff of worlds, molded by me bring forth all
- 1:16:30Speaker 8: that which is moving or still living. Or lifeless. Thus
- 1:16:35Speaker 8: the worlds go on the minds untaught, mistake me, veiled
- 1:16:41Speaker 8: in form. Not see they of my secret presents, not
- 1:16:47Speaker 8: of my hid nature, ruling all which lives, vain hopes,
- 1:16:52Speaker 8: pursuing vain deeds, doing fed on vainest knowledge, senselessly they
- 1:16:59Speaker 8: seek and eat will we the way of brutes and fiends.
- 1:17:03Speaker 8: But my Mahatmas, those of noble soul who tread the
- 1:17:07Speaker 8: path Celesteel, worship me with hearts unwandering, knowing me the sores,
- 1:17:13Speaker 8: the eternal source of life. Unendingly, they glorify me, seek me,
- 1:17:20Speaker 8: keep their vows of reverence and love with changeless faith,
- 1:17:25Speaker 8: adoring me. Yea, and those two adore who, offering sacrifice
- 1:17:31Speaker 8: of wakened hearts, have sense of one pervading spirit's stress,
- 1:17:37Speaker 8: one force in every place, though manifold. I am the sacrifice,
- 1:17:44Speaker 8: I am the prayer. I am the funeral cake set
- 1:17:48Speaker 8: for the dead. I am the healing herb. I am
- 1:17:51Speaker 8: the ghee, the mantra, and the flame, and that which burns.
- 1:17:57Speaker 8: I am of all this boundless universe, the Father, Mother, Ancestor,
- 1:18:04Speaker 8: and God, the end of learning, that which purifies in
- 1:18:08Speaker 8: illustril water, I am Olm, I am rig Veda, sama
- 1:18:15Speaker 8: Veda yajur Veda, the Way, the fosterer, the Lord, the judge,
- 1:18:23Speaker 8: the witness, the abode, the refuge house, the friend, the
- 1:18:28Speaker 8: fountain and the sea of life, which sends and swallows
- 1:18:32Speaker 8: up treasure of worlds and treasure chamber, seed and seed sower.
- 1:18:40Speaker 8: Whence endless harvests spring, Sun's heat is mine, Heaven's rain
- 1:18:46Speaker 8: is mine. To grant or to withhold death am I
- 1:18:51Speaker 8: and immortal life. I am Arjuna sath A asuth visible
- 1:18:57Speaker 8: life and life invisible yea. Those who learn the threefold
- 1:19:02Speaker 8: weds who drink the Soma vine purge scents, pay sacrifice
- 1:19:08Speaker 8: from me. They earn passage to Swerga, where the meats
- 1:19:12Speaker 8: divine of great gods freed them in high Indra's heaven.
- 1:19:18Speaker 8: Yet they, when that prodigious joy is o'er paradise, spent
- 1:19:23Speaker 8: and wage for merits given, come to the world of
- 1:19:26Speaker 8: death and change. Once more they had their recompense. They
- 1:19:32Speaker 8: stored their treasure, following the Threefold Scripture and its writ
- 1:19:37Speaker 8: who seeketh such gaineth the fleeting pleasure of joy which
- 1:19:41Speaker 8: comes and goes. I grant them it. But to those
- 1:19:45Speaker 8: blest ones who worship me, turning not otherwhere, with minds
- 1:19:50Speaker 8: set fast, I bring assurance of full bliss beyond nay,
- 1:19:57Speaker 8: and of hearts which follow other gods in simple faith.
- 1:20:01Speaker 8: Their prayers arise to me, O count Thee's son, though
- 1:20:04Speaker 8: they pray wrongfully, for I am the receiver and the
- 1:20:09Speaker 8: lord of every sacrifice, which these know not rightfully. So
- 1:20:14Speaker 8: they fall to earth again. Who follow gods go to
- 1:20:18Speaker 8: their gods, who wow their souls to pythres, Go to pythres,
- 1:20:23Speaker 8: minds to evil boots given o'er sink to the boots.
- 1:20:28Speaker 8: And whoso loveth me cometh to me, who so shall
- 1:20:32Speaker 8: offer me in faith and love a leaf, a flower,
- 1:20:37Speaker 8: a fruit, water poured forth. That offering I accept lovingly,
- 1:20:43Speaker 8: made with pious will. Whatever thou doest, prince, eating or sacrificing,
- 1:20:50Speaker 8: giving gifts, praying or fasting, let it all be done
- 1:20:55Speaker 8: for me as mine. So shalt thou free thyself from kermaband,
- 1:21:02Speaker 8: the chain which holdeth men to good and evil issue.
- 1:21:06Speaker 8: So shalt come safe unto me, when thou art quit
- 1:21:10Speaker 8: of flesh by faith and abdication, join'd to me. I
- 1:21:16Speaker 8: am alike, for all I know not hate I know
- 1:21:20Speaker 8: not favor. What is made is mine. But them that
- 1:21:24Speaker 8: worship me with love I love. They are in me,
- 1:21:28Speaker 8: and I in them. Nay, Prince, if one of evil
- 1:21:33Speaker 8: life turn in his thought straitly to me, count him
- 1:21:38Speaker 8: amidst the good he hath the highway chosen, He shall
- 1:21:43Speaker 8: grow righteous. Ere long he shall attain that peace which changes. Not, Thou,
- 1:21:50Speaker 8: Prince of India, be certain none can perish trusting me
- 1:21:55Speaker 8: O Britha's son. Whoso will turn to me, though they
- 1:21:59Speaker 8: be borne from the very womb of sin woman or man,
- 1:22:03Speaker 8: sprung of the Vishiya caste, or lowly disregarded Sudra, all
- 1:22:09Speaker 8: plant foot upon the highest path. How then, the holy
- 1:22:13Speaker 8: Brahmans and my royal saints, ah ye, who into this
- 1:22:19Speaker 8: ill world are come fleeting and false. Set your faith
- 1:22:24Speaker 8: fast on me, Fix heart and thought on me, adore me,
- 1:22:30Speaker 8: Bring offerings to me, make me prostrations, Make me your
- 1:22:34Speaker 8: supremest joy and undivided unto my rest, your spirits shall
- 1:22:40Speaker 8: be guided. Here ends Chapter nine, Chapter ten of Religion.
- 1:22:49Speaker 8: By the heavenly perfections Krishna. Here Father, Yet thou long
- 1:22:56Speaker 8: armed Lord, these latest words I say turd to bring
- 1:23:00Speaker 8: thee bliss and peace, who lovest me alway, Not the
- 1:23:05Speaker 8: great company of gods, nor kingly richies know my nature,
- 1:23:10Speaker 8: who have made the gods and riches long ago. He
- 1:23:14Speaker 8: only knoweth only he is free from sin and wise,
- 1:23:19Speaker 8: who seeth me, Lord of the worlds, with faith, enlightened eyes, unborn, undying, unbegun.
- 1:23:28Speaker 8: Whatever natures be to mortal men distributed, those natures spring
- 1:23:34Speaker 8: from me, intellect, skill, enlightenment, endurance, self control, truthfulness, equability
- 1:23:43Speaker 8: and grief or joy of soul, and birth and death,
- 1:23:47Speaker 8: and fearfulness and fearlessness and shame and honor and sweet
- 1:23:54Speaker 8: harmlessness and peace, which is the same, whatever be false
- 1:23:59Speaker 8: and mirth and tears, and piety and thrift, and wish
- 1:24:04Speaker 8: to give and will to help all cometh of my gift.
- 1:24:10Speaker 8: The seventh chief Saints, the Elders four, the lordly Manus
- 1:24:15Speaker 8: set sharing my work to rule the worlds. These two
- 1:24:19Speaker 8: did I beget, and rishis pitris Manus all by one
- 1:24:25Speaker 8: thought of my mind. Thence did arise to fill this
- 1:24:29Speaker 8: world the races of mankind. Wherefrom who comprehends my reign
- 1:24:35Speaker 8: of mystic majesty? That truth of truths is thenceforth linked
- 1:24:40Speaker 8: in faultless faith to me, yea, knowing me the source
- 1:24:46Speaker 8: of all. By me, all creatures wrought, the wise and
- 1:24:50Speaker 8: spirit cleave to me into my being, brought, hearts fixed
- 1:24:56Speaker 8: on me, breadths breathed to me, praising me each to each,
- 1:25:02Speaker 8: so have they happiness and peace, with pious thought and speech.
- 1:25:08Speaker 8: And unto these, thus serving well, thus loving ceaselessly, I
- 1:25:13Speaker 8: give a mind of perfect mood, whereby they draw to
- 1:25:17Speaker 8: me and all for love of them. Within their darkened
- 1:25:22Speaker 8: souls I dwell, and with bright rays of wisdom slamp
- 1:25:26Speaker 8: their ignorance, dispel Arjuna. Yes, thou art but Abram the High, Abode,
- 1:25:36Speaker 8: the great purification. Thou art God eternal, all creating, wholly
- 1:25:42Speaker 8: first without beginning, Lord of lords and gods, declared by
- 1:25:48Speaker 8: all the saints, by Narada, Viasa, Asita and Devalas. And
- 1:25:53Speaker 8: hear thyself declaring unto me what thou hast said. Now
- 1:25:58Speaker 8: I know to be truth, O Kasheva, that neither gods,
- 1:26:02Speaker 8: nor men nor demons comprehend thy mystery made manifest Divinest
- 1:26:07Speaker 8: Thou thyself thyself alone dost know Maker, Supreme, Master of all,
- 1:26:13Speaker 8: the living, Lord of gods, King of the universe. To
- 1:26:18Speaker 8: THEE alone belongs to tell the heavenly excellence of those perfections,
- 1:26:24Speaker 8: wherewith thou dost fill these worlds of thine pervading imminent.
- 1:26:30Speaker 8: How shall I learn supremest mystery to know THEE? Though
- 1:26:34Speaker 8: I muse continually, under what form of thine unnumbered forms,
- 1:26:40Speaker 8: mayst thou be grasped? Ah, yet again, recount clear and
- 1:26:46Speaker 8: complete thy great appearances, the secrets of thy majesty. And
- 1:26:51Speaker 8: might thou high delight of men? Never enough can mine
- 1:26:56Speaker 8: ears drink the umrit of such words. Krishna Hanta, so
- 1:27:04Speaker 8: be it, Kuru Prince. I will to THEE unfold some
- 1:27:07Speaker 8: portions of my majesty, whose powers are manifold. I am
- 1:27:13Speaker 8: the spirit seated deep in every creature's heart. From me,
- 1:27:17Speaker 8: they come by me, they live at my word. They
- 1:27:21Speaker 8: depart Vishnu of the Adityas. I am those lords of light,
- 1:27:27Speaker 8: Maritchis of the Maruts, the kings of storm and blight.
- 1:27:32Speaker 8: By day I gleam the golden sun of burning cloudless noon.
- 1:27:37Speaker 8: By night amid the asterisms, I glide the dappled moon
- 1:27:42Speaker 8: of Vedas. I am Samawaid of gods in Indra's heaven
- 1:27:46Speaker 8: Vasava of the faculties to living beings, given the mind
- 1:27:51Speaker 8: which apprehends and thinks of Rudras, Shankara, of Yakshas and
- 1:27:57Speaker 8: of Rakshasas with dish and Pavaka of vasus, and of
- 1:28:02Speaker 8: mountain peaks. Meru Rihaspathi Noomi meant planetary powers, met warriors,
- 1:28:09Speaker 8: heavenly Skanda of all the water floods, the sea which
- 1:28:14Speaker 8: drinketh each and Brigu of the holy saints, and Ohm
- 1:28:19Speaker 8: of sacred speech of prayers, the prayer ye whisper of hills, Himalayas,
- 1:28:25Speaker 8: snow and Ashwata, the fig tree of all the trees
- 1:28:30Speaker 8: that grow of their devarishis Narada and chitraratov them that
- 1:28:36Speaker 8: sing in heaven, and Kapila of Mooni's and the gem
- 1:28:40Speaker 8: of flying steeds with Chasravas from amrithwave which burst of elephants,
- 1:28:48Speaker 8: Iravata of males, the best and first of weapons, Heaven's
- 1:28:54Speaker 8: hot thunderbolt of cows, white Kamaduk, from whose gray milky
- 1:29:00Speaker 8: udder teats. All hearts's desires are struck Vasuki of the
- 1:29:06Speaker 8: serpent tribes round Mandhara, entwined and thousand fangd Ananta on
- 1:29:13Speaker 8: whose broad coils reclined leans Vishnu, and of water things
- 1:29:18Speaker 8: Varuna ariyam of Pitthris, and of those that judge, Yama
- 1:29:24Speaker 8: the judge. I am of daityas dread Prahlada, of what
- 1:29:30Speaker 8: meets day and years times self. I am of woodland, beasts, buffaloes, deers,
- 1:29:38Speaker 8: and bears, the lordly painted tiger of birds, the vast garud,
- 1:29:45Speaker 8: the whirlwind, mid, the winds, mid chiefs, rama with blood, imbrood, mucker, midfishes,
- 1:29:53Speaker 8: of the sea and ganges, mid the streams. Here first
- 1:29:58Speaker 8: and last and center of all which is or seems.
- 1:30:01Speaker 8: I am Arjuna, wisdom supreme of what is wise words
- 1:30:06Speaker 8: on the uttering lips. I am an eyesight of the eyes,
- 1:30:10Speaker 8: an a of written characters, dwandwa, of knitted speech, and
- 1:30:15Speaker 8: endless life and boundless love, whose power sustaineth each, and
- 1:30:21Speaker 8: bitter death which seizes all enjoys, sudden birth, which brings
- 1:30:27Speaker 8: to light all beings that are to be on earth,
- 1:30:30Speaker 8: And of the viewless virtues, fame, fortune song am I
- 1:30:36Speaker 8: in memory, in patience, in craft, and constancy of wading hymns,
- 1:30:42Speaker 8: the very hudson of meters gayet three of months, the
- 1:30:47Speaker 8: Margasirsha of all the seasons. Three, the flower wreathed spring
- 1:30:53Speaker 8: in Dyer's play, the Conquering Double eighth, the splendor of
- 1:30:58Speaker 8: the splendid and the greatness of the great victory. I
- 1:31:01Speaker 8: am and action, and the goodness of the good and
- 1:31:05Speaker 8: Basudev of Rishni's race, and of this Pandu's brood thyself,
- 1:31:10Speaker 8: yea my Arjuna, thyself, for thou art mine of poets,
- 1:31:16Speaker 8: Usanna of saints, vasa sage divine, the policy of conquerors,
- 1:31:22Speaker 8: the potenzie of kings, the great unbroken silence in learnings,
- 1:31:27Speaker 8: secret things, the lore of all the learned, the seed
- 1:31:31Speaker 8: of all which springs, living or lifeless, still or stirred,
- 1:31:36Speaker 8: whatever brings be, none of them is in all the worlds,
- 1:31:41Speaker 8: but it exists by me. Nor toung can tell Arjuna,
- 1:31:45Speaker 8: nor end of telling. Come of these my boundless glories,
- 1:31:50Speaker 8: whereof I teach thee sum. For whosoever is wondrous work
- 1:31:55Speaker 8: and majesty in might from me hath all proceeded, receive
- 1:31:59Speaker 8: thou this a aright. Yet how shouldst thou receive, O Prince,
- 1:32:04Speaker 8: the vastness of this word, I, who am all and
- 1:32:08Speaker 8: made it all abide its separate Lord. Here ends chapter
- 1:32:14Speaker 8: ten Chapter eleven of the Manifesting of the One and
- 1:32:19Speaker 8: manifold Arjuna. This for my soul's peace. Have I heard
- 1:32:26Speaker 8: from Thee the unfolding of the mystery supreme named ad Tyatman,
- 1:32:32Speaker 8: comprehending which my darkness is dispelled? For now I know,
- 1:32:37Speaker 8: O Lotus eyed, whence is the birth of men? And
- 1:32:41Speaker 8: whence their death? And what the majesties of Thine immortal
- 1:32:46Speaker 8: rule fain would I see? As Thou thyself declarest it,
- 1:32:50Speaker 8: Sovereign Lord, the likeness of that glory of thy form
- 1:32:55Speaker 8: wholly revealed, O Thou, divinest One. If this can be,
- 1:33:01Speaker 8: if I may bear the sight, make thyself visible, Lord
- 1:33:05Speaker 8: of all prayers, show me thy very self, the eternal
- 1:33:10Speaker 8: God Krishna gaze. Then, Thou, son of Pritha, I manifest
- 1:33:18Speaker 8: for THEE those hundred thousand thousand shapes that clothe my mystery.
- 1:33:24Speaker 8: I show THEE all my semblances in finite, rich, divine,
- 1:33:29Speaker 8: my changeful hues, my countless forms. See in this face
- 1:33:33Speaker 8: of mine adityas Vasus, Rudras, Ushvins and maruts, see wonders
- 1:33:41Speaker 8: unnumbered Indian prince revealed to none save THEE. Behold this
- 1:33:47Speaker 8: is the universe. Look what is life and dead? I
- 1:33:52Speaker 8: gather all in one in me. Gaze, as thy lips
- 1:33:57Speaker 8: have said, on God, eternal, very God, see me, see
- 1:34:02Speaker 8: what thou prayest. Thou canst not nor with human eye
- 1:34:07Speaker 8: sur Jna ever mayest. Therefore I give thee sense divine,
- 1:34:12Speaker 8: have other eyes, new light, and look, this is my glory,
- 1:34:18Speaker 8: unveiled to mortal sight. Sanjaya then O king the God,
- 1:34:25Speaker 8: so saying stood to Pritha's son, displaying all the splendor
- 1:34:30Speaker 8: wonder dread of his fast almighty head, out of countless eyes,
- 1:34:36Speaker 8: beholding out of countless mouths, commanding countless mystic forms, enfolding
- 1:34:42Speaker 8: in one form, supremely standing countless radiant glories, bearing countless
- 1:34:49Speaker 8: heavenly weapons, bearing crowned with garlands of star clusters, robed
- 1:34:55Speaker 8: in garb of woven lusters, breathing from his perfect present
- 1:35:01Speaker 8: breadths of all delicious ascents, of all sweetest odors, shedding
- 1:35:07Speaker 8: blinding brilliance, overspreading boundless beautiful all spaces from his all
- 1:35:15Speaker 8: regarding faces. So he showed, if there should rise suddenly
- 1:35:21Speaker 8: within the skies sun bursts of a thousand suns, flooding
- 1:35:25Speaker 8: earth with rays undeemed of. Then might be that Holy
- 1:35:30Speaker 8: One's majesty and glory dreamed of. So did Pandu's Sun
- 1:35:36Speaker 8: behold all this universe, enfold all its huge diversity into
- 1:35:41Speaker 8: one great shape, and be visible and viewed and blended
- 1:35:46Speaker 8: in one body, subtle, splendid, nameless, the all comprehending God
- 1:35:53Speaker 8: of God's, the never ending Deity. But sore, amazed, thrilled over,
- 1:36:00Speaker 8: were filled, dazzled and dazed. Arjuna knelt and bowed his
- 1:36:05Speaker 8: head and clasped his palms and cried and said, Arjuna, yea,
- 1:36:12Speaker 8: I have seen. I see, Lord, All is wrapped in thee.
- 1:36:17Speaker 8: The gods are in thy glorious frame, the creatures of
- 1:36:20Speaker 8: Earth and Heaven and Hell in thy divine form, dwell
- 1:36:25Speaker 8: and in thy countenance. Show all the features of Brahma
- 1:36:30Speaker 8: sitting lone upon his lotus, throne of saints and sages,
- 1:36:34Speaker 8: and the serpent races Ananta Vasuki yea, mightiest Lord, I
- 1:36:40Speaker 8: see thy thousand thousand arms and breasts and faces and
- 1:36:45Speaker 8: eyes on every side, perfect diversified, and nowhere end of thee,
- 1:36:53Speaker 8: nowhere beginning nowhere a center shifts, wherever souls gaze lifts
- 1:36:59Speaker 8: Thy center self, all willing and all winning, in finite King.
- 1:37:05Speaker 8: I see the anadem on thee, the club, the shell,
- 1:37:10Speaker 8: the discus, See THEE burning in beams, insufferable lighting, Earth,
- 1:37:16Speaker 8: Heaven and Hell, with brilliance, blinding glorious flashing, turning darkness
- 1:37:23Speaker 8: to dazzling day. Look I whichever weigh, Ah Lord, I
- 1:37:28Speaker 8: worship THEE, the undivided, the uttermost of thought, the treasure
- 1:37:34Speaker 8: palace wrought to hold the wealth of the worlds, the
- 1:37:37Speaker 8: shield provided to shelter virtues, laws, the found men's lives.
- 1:37:43Speaker 8: Stream draws all waters, of all rivers, of all being,
- 1:37:48Speaker 8: the one, unborn, unending, unchanging and unblending with might and majesty,
- 1:37:54Speaker 8: past thought, past seeing silver of moon and gold of sun.
- 1:38:00Speaker 8: Our glances rolled from thy great eyes, Thy visage beaming
- 1:38:06Speaker 8: tender o'er the stars and skies doth to warm life's surprise.
- 1:38:11Speaker 8: Thy universe. The worlds are filled with wonder of thy perfections.
- 1:38:18Speaker 8: Space star sprinkled, and the place from pole to pole
- 1:38:22Speaker 8: of the heavens, from bound to bound, hath THEE in
- 1:38:26Speaker 8: every spot, THEE, THEE where thou art not a holy,
- 1:38:31Speaker 8: marvelous form is nowhere found, O mystic awful one. At
- 1:38:37Speaker 8: sight of THEE made known, the three worlds quake. The
- 1:38:41Speaker 8: lower gods drawn, iye THEE. They fold their palms and bow,
- 1:38:46Speaker 8: body and breast and brow, and whispering worship loud and
- 1:38:50Speaker 8: magnify Thee. Rishis and Scytha's cry Hail Highest Majesty from
- 1:38:57Speaker 8: sage and singer breaks the Hymn of Glow in holy melody,
- 1:39:02Speaker 8: sounding the praise of THEE. While countless companies take up
- 1:39:07Speaker 8: the story. Rudras who write the storms, the adythyas shining forms,
- 1:39:13Speaker 8: Vasus and Sadhyas, Vishvas, Pushmapas, Maruts, and those great twins
- 1:39:20Speaker 8: the heavenly fair Ushwins Gandharvas rakshasa synthas Ashuras. These see
- 1:39:28Speaker 8: THEE and revere in silence, stricken fear. Yeah, the world's
- 1:39:34Speaker 8: seeing THEE with form stupendous, with faces manifold, with eyes
- 1:39:39Speaker 8: which all behold, unnumbered eyes, vast arms, members, tremendous flanks
- 1:39:47Speaker 8: lit with sun and star, feet planted near and far,
- 1:39:53Speaker 8: Tushes of terror, melts wrathful and tender. The three wide
- 1:39:58Speaker 8: worlds before THEE adore as I adore THEE quake as
- 1:40:03Speaker 8: I quake to witness so much splendor. I mark these
- 1:40:08Speaker 8: strike the skies with front and wond'rous wise huge rainbow
- 1:40:13Speaker 8: painted glittering, and thy mouth opened, and orbs which I
- 1:40:18Speaker 8: see all things whatever be in all thy worlds, east, west,
- 1:40:25Speaker 8: and north and south, O eyes of God, O head,
- 1:40:30Speaker 8: My strength of soul is fled gone, his heart's force, rebuked,
- 1:40:35Speaker 8: his mind's desire. When I behold THEE so with awful brows,
- 1:40:40Speaker 8: aglow with burning glands, and lips lighted with fire, fierce
- 1:40:47Speaker 8: as those flames which shall consume at close of all
- 1:40:51Speaker 8: earth heav'n ah me, I see no earth in heav'n THEE,
- 1:40:57Speaker 8: Lord of lords, I see THEE, only only thee. Ah.
- 1:41:03Speaker 8: Let thy mercy unto me be given Thou refuge of
- 1:41:08Speaker 8: the world. Lo to the cavern, hurled of thy wide
- 1:41:13Speaker 8: opened throat and lips white toush'd. I see our noblest
- 1:41:18Speaker 8: ones great through the Rashtra's sons, Peshma, Drona, and Karna,
- 1:41:24Speaker 8: caught and crush'd the kings and chiefs drawn in that
- 1:41:29Speaker 8: gaping gorge within the best of all both armies torn
- 1:41:35Speaker 8: and riven between thy jaws. They lie mangled, fell, bloodily,
- 1:41:42Speaker 8: ground into dust and death like streams down, driven with
- 1:41:46Speaker 8: helpless haste, which go in headlong, furious flow straight to
- 1:41:52Speaker 8: the gulfing maw of the unfill'd ocean, so to that
- 1:41:56Speaker 8: flaming cave. These heroes, great and brave pour in unending
- 1:42:01Speaker 8: streams with helpless motion, like moths which in the night
- 1:42:06Speaker 8: flutter towards a light, drawn to their fiery doom, flying
- 1:42:11Speaker 8: and dying so to their deaths. Still throng, blind, dazzled,
- 1:42:17Speaker 8: borne along cease leslie all these multitudes, wild flying Thou
- 1:42:25Speaker 8: that hast fashioned men divorest them again, one with another,
- 1:42:31Speaker 8: great and small, alike the creatures whom thou may'st with
- 1:42:36Speaker 8: flaming jaws, thou takest lapping them up. Lord God, thy
- 1:42:42Speaker 8: terrors strike from end to end of earth, filling life
- 1:42:47Speaker 8: full from birth to death, with deadly, burning, lurid dread.
- 1:42:53Speaker 8: Ah Wishnu, make me know why is thy wisage? So

- 1:44:03Speaker 8: they stand thus gallantly my instrument. Art Thou strike strong
- 1:44:09Speaker 8: armed Prince at Drona at Bishma. Strike deal death to
- 1:44:15Speaker 8: Karna Jayadratha. Stay all this warlike breath. It's I who
- 1:44:21Speaker 8: bid them perish. Thou wilt but slay the slain. Fight
- 1:44:27Speaker 8: they must fall, and thou must live victor. Upon this plain, Sanjaya,
- 1:44:36Speaker 8: hearing mighty kaishevs were tremblingly. That helmed lord clasped his
- 1:44:42Speaker 8: lifted palms, and praying grace of Krishna, stood there, saying,
- 1:44:47Speaker 8: with bowed brow and accents broken these words timorously spoken
- 1:44:54Speaker 8: Urguna worthily law of might the whole world. Hath di
- 1:45:00Speaker 8: light in Thy surpassing power, obeying thee, the rustious us
- 1:45:05Speaker 8: in dread at sight of thee or spad to all
- 1:45:09Speaker 8: four quarters and the company of Syntha's sound Thy name,
- 1:45:14Speaker 8: How should they not proclaim thy Majesty's deafnest mightiest Thou
- 1:45:20Speaker 8: Brahm than Brahma, Greater Thou in finite creator, Thou, God
- 1:45:25Speaker 8: of God's Life's dwelling place, and rest Thou of all souls,
- 1:45:32Speaker 8: the soul, the comprehending whole of being, formed and formless being,
- 1:45:38Speaker 8: the framer O utmost one, O Lord older than eld,
- 1:45:43Speaker 8: who stored the worlds with wealth of life, O treasure claimed,

- 1:46:03Speaker 8: and he who keeps the prison of narak Yama dark
- 1:46:08Speaker 8: and Ugny's shining spark. Waruna's waves are Thy waves. Moon
- 1:46:14Speaker 8: and starlight are Thine prajopathy art Thou, And it's to
- 1:46:19Speaker 8: thee men kneel in worshiping the old world's far light,
- 1:46:26Speaker 8: the first of mortal men. Again, Thou God again a
- 1:46:29Speaker 8: thousand thousand times, be magnified, honor and worship, Be glory
- 1:46:36Speaker 8: and praise to THEE. Na'amou namaste, cried on every side,
- 1:46:42Speaker 8: cried here above below, utter'd when thou dost go uttered,
- 1:46:47Speaker 8: when thou dost come namo. We call no mostu God adored,
- 1:46:54Speaker 8: no most too nameless Lord, Hail to THEE. Praise to THEE,
- 1:46:59Speaker 8: Thou one in awe, for thou art all yea thou ah,
- 1:47:06Speaker 8: If in anger now thou shouldst remember, I did think
- 1:47:11Speaker 8: THEE Friend, speaking with easy speech as men use each
- 1:47:15Speaker 8: to each, did call THEE Krishna Prince, nor comprehend thy
- 1:47:21Speaker 8: hidden majesty, the might the awe of THEE did in
- 1:47:26Speaker 8: my heedlessness, or in my love on journey or in jest,
- 1:47:31Speaker 8: or when we lay at rest, sitting at council, straying
- 1:47:35Speaker 8: in the grove alone, or in the throng, do THEE
- 1:47:40Speaker 8: most holy wrong. Be Thy grace granted for that witless sin.
- 1:47:45Speaker 8: For thou art Now I know, Father of all, below,
- 1:47:50Speaker 8: of all above, of all the worlds, within, Guru of gurus,
- 1:47:57Speaker 8: more to reverence and adore than all which is adorable
- 1:48:01Speaker 8: and high. How in the wide world's three should any
- 1:48:05Speaker 8: equal be? Shall any other share thy majesty? Therefore, with
- 1:48:12Speaker 8: body bent and reverent intent, I praise and serve and
- 1:48:17Speaker 8: seek THEE, asking grace as father to a son, as
- 1:48:21Speaker 8: friend to friend, as one who loveth to his lover.
- 1:48:26Speaker 8: Turn thy face and gentleness on me. Good is it?
- 1:48:31Speaker 8: I did see this unknown marvel of thy form, but
- 1:48:37Speaker 8: fear mingles with joy. Retake dear Lord, for pity's sake,
- 1:48:42Speaker 8: Thine earthly shape, which earthly eyes may bear, Be merciful
- 1:48:48Speaker 8: and show the visage.
- 1:48:49Speaker 6: That I know.
- 1:48:51Speaker 8: Let me regard THEE as of yore, arrayed with disk
- 1:48:55Speaker 8: and forehead, jem with mace and anadem, Thou who sustainest
- 1:49:02Speaker 8: all things undismayed. Let me once more behold the form
- 1:49:08Speaker 8: I loved of old, Thou, of the thousand arms and
- 1:49:13Speaker 8: countless eyes. My frightened heart is fain to see restored
- 1:49:17Speaker 8: again the charioteer, my Krishna's kind disguise, Krishna, yea thou
- 1:49:28Speaker 8: hast seen Arjuna because I loved THEE well, The secret
- 1:49:32Speaker 8: countenance of me revealed by mystic spell, shining and wonderful
- 1:49:38Speaker 8: and vast majestic manifold, which none save Thou, in all
- 1:49:43Speaker 8: the years, had favored to behold. For not by weithers
- 1:49:47Speaker 8: cometh this, nor sacrifice, nor alms, nor works well done,
- 1:49:52Speaker 8: nor penance long, nor prayers, nor chanted palms, that mortal
- 1:49:59Speaker 8: eyes should bear to view the immortal soul, unclad Prince
- 1:50:04Speaker 8: of the Kurus. This was kept for THEE alone.
- 1:50:08Speaker 3: Be glad. Let no more.
- 1:50:10Speaker 8: Trouble shake thy heart, because thine eyes have seen my
- 1:50:14Speaker 8: terror with my glory as I before have been, So
- 1:50:18Speaker 8: will I be again for THEE, with lightened heart behold
- 1:50:23Speaker 8: once more I am thy Krishna. The form thou knewest
- 1:50:27Speaker 8: of old Sonjaya. These words to Arjuna, spake Basudev and
- 1:50:35Speaker 8: straight to take back again the semblance, dear of the
- 1:50:39Speaker 8: well loved charioteer. Peace and joy it did restore when
- 1:50:45Speaker 8: the prince beheld once more mighty Brahma's form and face
- 1:50:49Speaker 8: clothed in Krishna's gentle grace. Arjuna, Now that I see
- 1:50:56Speaker 8: come back Janardana, this friendly human frame, my mind can
- 1:51:01Speaker 8: think calm thoughts once more. My heart beats still again. Krishna. Yea,
- 1:51:10Speaker 8: it was wonderful and terrible to view me as thou
- 1:51:14Speaker 8: Didst Dear Prince, the God's dread and desire continually to view.
- 1:51:19Speaker 8: Yet not by weithers, nor from sacrifice, nor penance, nor
- 1:51:24Speaker 8: gift giving, nor with prayer, shall any so behold as
- 1:51:29Speaker 8: thou hast seen. Only by fullest service, perfect faith, and
- 1:51:35Speaker 8: utter most surrender. Am I known and seen and entered
- 1:51:40Speaker 8: into Indian Prince, who doeth all for me, who findeth
- 1:51:46Speaker 8: me in all, adoreth always loveth all which I have
- 1:51:50Speaker 8: made and me for Love's soul. End that man Arjuna
- 1:51:56Speaker 8: unto me doth wend of chapter eleven Chapter.
- 1:52:02Speaker 9: Twelve of the Religion of Faith. Arjuna, Lord of the
- 1:52:11Speaker 9: men who serve thee true in heart as God revealed,
- 1:52:15Speaker 9: And of the men who serve worshiping thee unrevealed, unbodied,
- 1:52:20Speaker 9: far which take the better way of faith and life, Krishna,
- 1:52:26Speaker 9: whoever serve me as I show myself constantly true in
- 1:52:32Speaker 9: full devotion fixed, these hold I very holy. But who
- 1:52:37Speaker 9: serve worshiping me the one, the invisible, the unrevealed, unnamed, unthinkable,
- 1:52:45Speaker 9: uttermost all pervading, highest sure, who thus adore me, mastering
- 1:52:52Speaker 9: their sense of one set mind to all glad, in
- 1:52:56Speaker 9: all good, these blessed souls come un to me. Yet
- 1:53:01Speaker 9: hard the travail is for whoso bend their minds to
- 1:53:05Speaker 9: reach the unmanifest. That viewless path shall scarce be trod
- 1:53:09Speaker 9: by man bearing his flesh. But wheereso any doeth all
- 1:53:14Speaker 9: his deeds, renouncing self in me, full of me, fix
- 1:53:19Speaker 9: to serve only the highest night and day, musing on
- 1:53:23Speaker 9: me him, will I swiftly lift forth from life's ocean
- 1:53:26Speaker 9: of distress and death. Whose soul clings fast to me,
- 1:53:31Speaker 9: Cling thou to me, class me with heart and mind,
- 1:53:37Speaker 9: So shalt thou dwell surely with me on high. But
- 1:53:41Speaker 9: if thy thought droops from such height, if thou beest
- 1:53:44Speaker 9: weak to set body and soul upon me constantly despair,
- 1:53:49Speaker 9: not give me lower service. Seek to read me, worshiping
- 1:53:54Speaker 9: with steadfast will. And if thou canst not worship steadfastly,
- 1:53:59Speaker 9: work for me toil in works pleasing to me, for
- 1:54:03Speaker 9: he that laboreth right for love of me shall finally attain.
- 1:54:08Speaker 9: But if in this thy faintheart fails, bring me thy failure,
- 1:54:13Speaker 9: find refuge in me. Let fruits of labor go, renouncing
- 1:54:18Speaker 9: all for me with lowliest heart, So shalt thou come
- 1:54:23Speaker 9: for though to know is more than diligence, Yet worship
- 1:54:27Speaker 9: better is than knowing, and renouncing better still near to renunciation,
- 1:54:33Speaker 9: very near dwelleth eternal peace, who hateth not of all
- 1:54:37Speaker 9: which lives, living himself benign, compassionate from arrogance, exempt, exempt
- 1:54:44Speaker 9: from love of self, unchangeable by good or ill, patient, contented,
- 1:54:50Speaker 9: firm in faith, mastering himself, true to his word, seeking
- 1:54:55Speaker 9: me heart and soul, vowed unto me, that man I love,
- 1:55:01Speaker 9: who troubleth not, is kind and is not troubled by them,
- 1:55:05Speaker 9: clear of wrath, living too high for gladness, of grief
- 1:55:10Speaker 9: or fear. That man I love, who dwelling, quiet eyed, stainless, serene,
- 1:55:16Speaker 9: well balanced, unperplexed, working with me, yet from all works detached,
- 1:55:21Speaker 9: That man I love, who fixed in faith on me,
- 1:55:26Speaker 9: doats upon none, scorns none, rejoices not, and grieves not,
- 1:55:31Speaker 9: letting good and evil hap light when it will and
- 1:55:35Speaker 9: when it will depart. That man I love, who, unto
- 1:55:39Speaker 9: friend and foe, keeping an equal heart with equal mind,
- 1:55:43Speaker 9: bears shame and glory, with an equal peace, takes heat
- 1:55:47Speaker 9: and cold, pleasure and pain, abides, quit of desires, hears
- 1:55:52Speaker 9: praise or calumny, in passionless restraint, unmoved by each, linked
- 1:55:58Speaker 9: by no ties to earth, steadfast in me that man
- 1:56:02Speaker 9: I love, But most of all I love those happy
- 1:56:05Speaker 9: ones to whom tis life to live in single, fervid
- 1:56:09Speaker 9: faith and love and seeing, eating the blessed amrit of
- 1:56:13Speaker 9: my being. End of Chapter twelve.
- 1:56:20Speaker 7: Chapter thirty of Religion, by separation of matter and spirit. Jina,
- 1:56:27Speaker 7: Now would I hear O gracious quesoa of life which
- 1:56:30Speaker 7: seems and soul beyond which sees, and what it is
- 1:56:34Speaker 7: we know or seem to know. Krishna, Yes, son of Kunti,
- 1:56:40Speaker 7: For this flesh e c is chetra is the field
- 1:56:44Speaker 7: where life disposed, and that which views and knows it
- 1:56:48Speaker 7: is a soul Chethratna in all fields. Though Indian Prince,
- 1:56:53Speaker 7: I am Chethrakna. I am what surveys, only that knowledge knows,
- 1:56:58Speaker 7: which knows the known by the over. What it is
- 1:57:02Speaker 7: that field of life, what qualities it hath and whence
- 1:57:06Speaker 7: it is? And why it change? And the faculty that
- 1:57:09Speaker 7: votereth it, the mightiness of this and how it voteth
- 1:57:14Speaker 7: Hear these things from me the elements, the conscious life,
- 1:57:18Speaker 7: the mind, the unseen vital force, and nine great gates
- 1:57:22Speaker 7: of the body, or the five domains of sense. Desire
- 1:57:27Speaker 7: is like pleasure and pain, and thought, deep oven and
- 1:57:31Speaker 7: persistency of being. These all are wrought on matter by
- 1:57:35Speaker 7: the soul. Humbleness, truthfulness and harmlessness, patience and honor, reverence
- 1:57:42Speaker 7: for the vice, purity, constancy, control of self, contempt of sense, delights,
- 1:57:48Speaker 7: self sacrifice, perception of the sertitude of ill in birth, death,
- 1:57:54Speaker 7: a disease, suffering and sin, detachment, lightlyholding a hope, children
- 1:58:01Speaker 7: and wife, and all that minded men, and ever tranquil heart,
- 1:58:06Speaker 7: in fortune's good and fortune's evil, with a will set
- 1:58:09Speaker 7: firm to worship me me only, ceasing not loving all solitudes,
- 1:58:14Speaker 7: and shunning noise of foolish crowds, endeavors, resolute to reach
- 1:58:19Speaker 7: perception of the utmost soul and grace, to understand what
- 1:58:22Speaker 7: gain it were so to attain. This is true isdom, friends,
- 1:58:27Speaker 7: and what is otherwise his ignorance? Now will I speak
- 1:58:31Speaker 7: of knowledge? Best to know the truth which giveth man
- 1:58:34Speaker 7: amored to drink the truth of him A parabrum, the
- 1:58:39Speaker 7: all the uncreated, not a set, not seth not form
- 1:58:45Speaker 7: nor the unformed, yet both and more, whose hands are
- 1:58:49Speaker 7: everywhere and everywhere, planted, his feet and everywhere, his eyes beholding,
- 1:58:55Speaker 7: and his ears in every place, hearing, and all his faces,
- 1:58:59Speaker 7: every enlightening and encompassing, his worlds glorified by the senses
- 1:59:05Speaker 7: he hath given. Yet beyond sense he is sustaining all.
- 1:59:10Speaker 7: He dwelleth unattached of forms and modes. Master, yet neither
- 1:59:15Speaker 7: form nor mode hath he. He is within all beings
- 1:59:18Speaker 7: and without, motionless, yet still moving, not discerned for subtility
- 1:59:24Speaker 7: of instant presence, close to all, to each, yet measurelessly
- 1:59:29Speaker 7: far not manifold, and yet subsisting still in all which lives,
- 1:59:34Speaker 7: forever to be known as the Sustainer. Yet at the
- 1:59:37Speaker 7: end of times he maketh all to end, and recreates
- 1:59:42Speaker 7: the light of lights. He is in the heart of
- 1:59:45Speaker 7: the dark, shining eternally. Wisdom he is, and Wisdom's way
- 1:59:50Speaker 7: and gad of all the wise, planted every heart. So
- 1:59:54Speaker 7: have I told of life's stuff and the molding and
- 1:59:57Speaker 7: the lore to comprehend. Whoso adoring me perceiveth this shall
- 2:00:03Speaker 7: surely come to me. Know thou that nature and the
- 2:00:07Speaker 7: Spirit both have no piginny know that qualities and changes
- 2:00:11Speaker 7: of them are by nature wrought. The nature puts toward
- 2:00:15Speaker 7: the acting frame, but spirit that inform it, and so
- 2:00:18Speaker 7: cause feeling of pain and pleasure. Spirit linked to more
- 2:00:22Speaker 7: that matter entered into bond with qualities by nature frame,
- 2:00:27Speaker 7: And does marriage to matter reash the birth again in
- 2:00:31Speaker 7: good or evil? Younies, Yet is this a in its
- 2:00:36Speaker 7: body reprison spirit, pure spirit, supreme, surveying, governing, guarding, possessing,
- 2:00:43Speaker 7: Lord and master, still Purusha ultimate One's soul with me.
- 2:00:48Speaker 7: Whoso thus knows himself and knows his soul pusha working
- 2:00:53Speaker 7: through the qualities which Nature's moves. The light hath come
- 2:00:56Speaker 7: for him. Whatever flesh he bears never again shall take
- 2:01:00Speaker 7: on its load. Some few, there be, by meditation, find
- 2:01:03Speaker 7: the soul him self self school, and some by long
- 2:01:07Speaker 7: philosophy and holy life reach thither. Some by words, some
- 2:01:12Speaker 7: never so attaining hear of light from other lips and seas,
- 2:01:17Speaker 7: and pleieve to eat worshiping a, and those to teaching
- 2:01:21Speaker 7: true overpast death. Wherever Indian prince life is of moving
- 2:01:27Speaker 7: things or things unknown, plant or still see, know what
- 2:01:33Speaker 7: is there? Hath grown by bond of matter and spirit.
- 2:01:37Speaker 7: No he sees, indeed, who sees in all alike the
- 2:01:41Speaker 7: living lordly soul, the soul supreme, imperishable amid the perishing.
- 2:01:47Speaker 7: For whoso thus beholds in every place, in every form
- 2:01:51Speaker 7: the saying one living Lord death, no more wrongfulness unto himself,
- 2:01:57Speaker 7: but goes the highest road which brings to bliss. Seeing
- 2:02:00Speaker 7: he sees, indeed, who sees that works our nature's owned
- 2:02:05Speaker 7: for soul to use, not love acting, Yet not the
- 2:02:09Speaker 7: actor sees the mass of separate living things, each of
- 2:02:13Speaker 7: its kind, issue from one and blend again to one.
- 2:02:17Speaker 7: Then hath he Brahma. He attains, o Prince, that ultimate
- 2:02:22Speaker 7: high Spirit, uncreate, unqualified, even when it entereth flesh, taketh
- 2:02:28Speaker 7: no stain of acts, worketh in naught, like to the
- 2:02:32Speaker 7: a thrial air, pro pervading all which for sheer subtility
- 2:02:37Speaker 7: avoid attaint. The subtle soul sits everywhere unstained, like to
- 2:02:43Speaker 7: the light of all piercing sun, which is not changed
- 2:02:46Speaker 7: by art. It shines upon the soul's light shine a
- 2:02:50Speaker 7: few in every place. And they who by such eye
- 2:02:53Speaker 7: of wisdom see how matter and what deals with it divide,
- 2:02:58Speaker 7: and how the spirit and the flyg have strived. These
- 2:03:01Speaker 7: visons go the way which leads to life. Here endeth
- 2:03:06Speaker 7: Chapter thirteen of the Babaatita, Chapter fourteen of Religion. By
- 2:03:12Speaker 7: separation from the qualities Krishna at Father, will I open
- 2:03:17Speaker 7: unto thee This wisdom of all wisdoms uttermost the witch
- 2:03:22Speaker 7: possessing all my saints have passed to perfectness on these
- 2:03:27Speaker 7: high verities, reliant, rising into fellowship with me. They are
- 2:03:32Speaker 7: not born again at birth of Kalpas, nor traias suffer change.
- 2:03:38Speaker 7: This inverse the womb is where I plant seed of
- 2:03:41Speaker 7: all lives. Then Prince of India comes birth to all
- 2:03:45Speaker 7: beings who so put the son mothers each mortal form
- 2:03:49Speaker 7: from not conceives, And I am he that fathers sending seed. Satwan,
- 2:03:55Speaker 7: Rajas and Thomas so are named the qualities of nature soothfastness, passion,
- 2:04:02Speaker 7: and ignorance. These three bind down the changeless spirit in
- 2:04:06Speaker 7: the changeful flesh were off sweet soothfastness by purity, living
- 2:04:12Speaker 7: unsullied and enlightened binds the sinless soul to happiness and
- 2:04:16Speaker 7: truth and passion. Being kin to appetite and breeding. Impulse
- 2:04:21Speaker 7: and propensity binds the embodied soul oh conti son by
- 2:04:26Speaker 7: tie of words, but ignorance, the child of darkness, blinding
- 2:04:31Speaker 7: mortal men binds down their souls to stupor, sloth and drowsiness. Ye,
- 2:04:36Speaker 7: Prince of India. Soothfastness binds souls in present wise to flesh,
- 2:04:41Speaker 7: and passion binds by toilsome strain. But ignorance, which blots
- 2:04:46Speaker 7: the beams of wisdom, binds the soul to sloth, passion
- 2:04:50Speaker 7: and ignorance. Once overcome leave south fastness O barata. Where this,
- 2:04:56Speaker 7: with ignorance or absent, passion rules and ignornorance, and hearts
- 2:05:01Speaker 7: not good nor quick, and at all gateways of the
- 2:05:04Speaker 7: body shines the lamp of knowledge. Then may one see
- 2:05:08Speaker 7: well soothfastness settled in that stea rings where longing is
- 2:05:13Speaker 7: and order and unrest, impulse to strive and gay and
- 2:05:18Speaker 7: a waress those spring from passion, Prince and grain, and
- 2:05:23Speaker 7: where darkness and dulness, loth and stupor or its ignorance
- 2:05:28Speaker 7: hath caused them Kuru chief. Moreover, when a soul departed
- 2:05:32Speaker 7: fixed in soothfastness, it goeth to the place perfect and
- 2:05:37Speaker 7: pure of those that know all truth. If it departed
- 2:05:41Speaker 7: in set habitue of impulse, it shall go into the
- 2:05:44Speaker 7: world of spirits tried to words. And if it dies
- 2:05:48Speaker 7: in hardened ignorance, that blinded soul is born and new
- 2:05:53Speaker 7: in some unlighted womb. The fruit of soothfastness is true
- 2:05:57Speaker 7: and sweet. The fruit of loss is pain and toil.
- 2:06:01Speaker 7: The fruit of ignorance is deeper darkness. A for light
- 2:06:05Speaker 7: brings light and passion. Eight to have blindness, bewilderments, and
- 2:06:11Speaker 7: ignorance grow forth from ignorance. Those of the first pries
- 2:06:15Speaker 7: ever higher those of the second mode take a mid place.
- 2:06:20Speaker 7: The darkened soul sink back to lower deeps, loaded with witlessness.
- 2:06:26Speaker 7: When watching life, the living man perceives the only actors
- 2:06:30Speaker 7: are the qualities, and knows what lives beyond the qualities.
- 2:06:34Speaker 7: Then easy come nigh unto me. The soul, thus passing
- 2:06:39Speaker 7: forth from the three qualities whereof aries all bodies overcomes birth, death, sorrow,
- 2:06:45Speaker 7: and age, and drinketh deep the undying wine of humors. Arjuna, Oh,
- 2:06:53Speaker 7: my Lord, which be the signs to know him? That
- 2:06:55Speaker 7: have gone past the three modes? How liveth he? What
- 2:06:59Speaker 7: will leadeth him safe beyond the three four modes? Krishna
- 2:07:04Speaker 7: He who, with equanimity surveys luster of goodness, strife of passion,
- 2:07:09Speaker 7: sloth of ignorance, not angry if they are not angry
- 2:07:13Speaker 7: when they are not. He who sits a sojourner and
- 2:07:17Speaker 7: stranger in their midst, unruffled, standing off, saying serene when
- 2:07:22Speaker 7: troubles break. These are the qualities he and to whom
- 2:07:26Speaker 7: self centered grief and joy sound as convert to whose
- 2:07:30Speaker 7: deep seeing eyes, the cloud, the marble, and the gold
- 2:07:33Speaker 7: are one whose equal heart holds the same gentleness for
- 2:07:38Speaker 7: lovely and unlovely things, firm set, well, pleased in praise
- 2:07:42Speaker 7: and dispraise, satisfied with honor or dishonor, unto friends and
- 2:07:48Speaker 7: unto force, alike intolerance detached from undertakings. He's named surmounter
- 2:07:53Speaker 7: of the qualities and search with single fervent faith, alluring me,
- 2:07:58Speaker 7: pausing beyond the equality conforms to Brahman attains me, for
- 2:08:03Speaker 7: I am that whereof Rima is the l likeness mine,
- 2:08:07Speaker 7: the amarit is, and immortality is mine and mind perfect felicity.
- 2:08:15Speaker 7: Here ends chapter fourteen of the babod Ghita.
- 2:08:18Speaker 8: Chapter fifteen of religion. By attaining the supreme Krishna, men
- 2:08:27Speaker 8: call the Ashwata, the Banyan tree, which had its boughs
- 2:08:31Speaker 8: beneath its roots on high, the ever holy tree Yeah,
- 2:08:36Speaker 8: for its leaves are green and waving hymns which whisper truth.
- 2:08:40Speaker 8: Who knoweth well the Ashwata knows all its branches shoot
- 2:08:46Speaker 8: to heaven and sink to earth, even as the deeds
- 2:08:49Speaker 8: of men, which take their birth from qualities. Its silver
- 2:08:55Speaker 8: sprays and blooms, and all the eager verdue of its
- 2:08:59Speaker 8: girth leap to quick life at touch of sun and air.
- 2:09:04Speaker 8: As men's lives quicken to the tempting sphere of wooing sense,
- 2:09:10Speaker 8: its hanging rootlets seek the soil beneath, helping to hold
- 2:09:14Speaker 8: it there, as actions wrot amid this world of men
- 2:09:20Speaker 8: bind them by ever tightening bonds. Again, if ye knew
- 2:09:24Speaker 8: well the teaching of the tree, what its shape saith,
- 2:09:29Speaker 8: and whence it springs, and then how it must end,
- 2:09:34Speaker 8: and all the ills of it the acts of sharp detachment,
- 2:09:39Speaker 8: ye would wet and cleave the clinging, snaky roots, and
- 2:09:44Speaker 8: lay this Ashwata of sense like low, to set new
- 2:09:49Speaker 8: growths up, springing to that happier sky which they who
- 2:09:55Speaker 8: reach shall have no day to die nor fade away,
- 2:10:00Speaker 8: nor fall to him. I mean Father in first, who
- 2:10:04Speaker 8: make the mystery of old creation. For to him come
- 2:10:09Speaker 8: they from passion and from dreams, who break away, who
- 2:10:14Speaker 8: part the bonds constraining them to flesh, and him the
- 2:10:19Speaker 8: highest worshipping away no longer grow at mercy of what
- 2:10:24Speaker 8: breeze of summer pleasure stirs the sleeping trees, what blast
- 2:10:29Speaker 8: of tempest tears them bow and stem to the eternal
- 2:10:34Speaker 8: world pass such as these, Another sun gleams there, another moon,
- 2:10:40Speaker 8: another light, a light which none shall lack, whose eyes
- 2:10:45Speaker 8: once see, for those return no more. They have attain'd
- 2:10:50Speaker 8: my uttermost abode. When in this world of manifested life,
- 2:10:57Speaker 8: the undying spirit, setting forth from me, taketh on form.
- 2:11:02Speaker 8: It draweth to itself, from Being's storehouse, which containeth all
- 2:11:09Speaker 8: senses and intellect, the sovereign soul, thus entering the flesh
- 2:11:15Speaker 8: or quitting it gathers these up as the wind gathers
- 2:11:19Speaker 8: sense blowing above the flower banks, ear and eye, and
- 2:11:24Speaker 8: touch and taste and smelling these it takes yeah, and
- 2:11:30Speaker 8: a sentient mind, linking itself to sense, thinks. So the
- 2:11:37Speaker 8: unenlightened ones mark not that spirit when he goes or comes,
- 2:11:43Speaker 8: nor when he takes his pleasure in the form conjoined
- 2:11:47Speaker 8: with qualities. But those see plane who have the eyes
- 2:11:52Speaker 8: to see holy souls sea, which strive there too enlightened,
- 2:11:59Speaker 8: they behold that spirit in themselves. But foolish ones, even
- 2:12:04Speaker 8: though they strive, discern not having hearts unkindled, ill informed.
- 2:12:12Speaker 8: No two from me shineth the gather'd glory of the sun,
- 2:12:17Speaker 8: which lightens all the world. From me, the moon draws
- 2:12:22Speaker 8: silvery beams and fire fierce loveliness. I penetrate the clay
- 2:12:29Speaker 8: and lend all shapes their living force. I glide into
- 2:12:33Speaker 8: the plant its root, leaf bloom, to make the woodland
- 2:12:38Speaker 8: green with springing sap, becoming whiteal warmth. I glow in
- 2:12:44Speaker 8: glad respiring frames, and pass with outward and with inward breadth,
- 2:12:51Speaker 8: to feed the body with all meats. For in this
- 2:12:55Speaker 8: world being is twofold, the divided one, the undivided one.
- 2:13:02Speaker 8: All things that live are the divided that which sits apart,
- 2:13:07Speaker 8: the undivided. Higher still is one, the highest holding all,
- 2:13:14Speaker 8: whose name is Lord, the eternal sovereign first, who feels
- 2:13:20Speaker 8: all worlds, sustaining them and dwelling Thus beyond divided life
- 2:13:26Speaker 8: and undivided I am called of men, invade us, God Supreme,
- 2:13:33Speaker 8: the Purushotama, who knows me. Thus with mind unclouded, knoweth
- 2:13:40Speaker 8: all dear Prince, and with his whole soul ever worshipeth me.
- 2:13:47Speaker 8: Now is the sacred secret mystery declared to THEE who
- 2:13:52Speaker 8: comprehendeth this hath wisdom. He is quit of works in bliss.
- 2:13:59Speaker 8: Here ends Chapter fifteen.
- 2:14:03Speaker 7: Chapter sixteen of the separateness of the divine and the
- 2:14:07Speaker 7: undivined Christna, fearlessness, singleness of soul, the will always to
- 2:14:13Speaker 7: strive for wisdom, opened hand and governed appetites and piety,
- 2:14:19Speaker 7: and love of lonely study, humbleness, uprightness, heed to endure
- 2:14:24Speaker 7: nought which leaves truthfulness, slowness and too wrath. A mind
- 2:14:30Speaker 7: that lightly leteth go what others prize and equanimity and charity,
- 2:14:36Speaker 7: which spireth no man's faults, and tenderness towards all that suffer.
- 2:14:42Speaker 7: A contented heart fluttered by no desires, a bearing mild,
- 2:14:47Speaker 7: modest and grave, with manhood nobly mixed with patience, fortitude,
- 2:14:52Speaker 7: and purity, an unrevengeful spirit never given to rate itself
- 2:14:57Speaker 7: too high, Such be the signs, O Indian Prince, of
- 2:15:01Speaker 7: him whose feet are set on that fair path which
- 2:15:05Speaker 7: leads to heavenly birth. The sitfulness and arrogance, and pride,
- 2:15:10Speaker 7: quickness to anger, harshened, evil speech, and ignorance to its
- 2:15:15Speaker 7: own darkness. These be the signs, my Prince, of whose
- 2:15:20Speaker 7: birth is fated for the regions of the wild. The
- 2:15:23Speaker 7: heavenly birth brings to deliverance. So shouldst thou know the
- 2:15:28Speaker 7: birth with asuras brings into bondage. Be thou, joyous prince
- 2:15:34Speaker 7: whose lot is set apart for heavenly birth, two stamps
- 2:15:38Speaker 7: there or marked, and all living men divine and divine.
- 2:15:42Speaker 7: I speak to thee by what monrks thou shouldst know?
- 2:15:47Speaker 7: The heavenly man hear from me now of the unheavenly
- 2:15:51Speaker 7: they comprehend. Not the unhavenly households go forth from me,
- 2:15:57Speaker 7: nor how they come back unto me. Nor is their
- 2:16:00Speaker 7: truth in these, nor purity nor rule of life. This
- 2:16:04Speaker 7: world hath not a law, nor order, nor a lord,
- 2:16:09Speaker 7: so say they, nor hath risen up by cause, following
- 2:16:13Speaker 7: on cause imperfect purposing, But is none other than house
- 2:16:18Speaker 7: of lust and this thing thinking all those weened ones
- 2:16:23Speaker 7: of little wit, dark minded, give themselves to evil deeds,
- 2:16:28Speaker 7: the curses of their kind, surrendered to desires, insatiable, full
- 2:16:34Speaker 7: of deceitfulness, folly and pride in blindness, clinging to their errors,
- 2:16:39Speaker 7: Caught into the sinful course, they trust this lie as
- 2:16:43Speaker 7: it were true, this lie which leads to death, finding
- 2:16:47Speaker 7: in pressure all the good which is, and crying here
- 2:16:50Speaker 7: it finisheth ensnard in uses of a hundred idle hopes.
- 2:16:56Speaker 7: Slaves to their passion and their wrath, they buy wealth
- 2:17:00Speaker 7: with based deeds glut hot apetides thus much today they say,
- 2:17:06Speaker 7: we gained thereby such and such wish of heart shall
- 2:17:10Speaker 7: have its fill, And this is ours, and the others
- 2:17:14Speaker 7: shall be ours. Today we slew a foe, and we
- 2:17:18Speaker 7: will say our other enemy tomorrow. Look are we not lords?
- 2:17:22Speaker 7: Make we not goodly?
- 2:17:24Speaker 5: Cheer?
- 2:17:24Speaker 7: Is not our fortune? Famous? Brave and great?
- 2:17:27Speaker 9: Rich?
- 2:17:28Speaker 7: Are we? Proud? Bond? What other men live like to us?
- 2:17:32Speaker 7: Killed them for sacrifice? Cast lord leaves and beamerry. So
- 2:17:36Speaker 7: they speak, darkened by ignorance, and so they fall, tossed
- 2:17:41Speaker 7: to and fro with projects, tricked and bound in net
- 2:17:45Speaker 7: of black delusion, lost in luss down to foul Naraka,
- 2:17:50Speaker 7: conceited fawn, stubborn and prout, dead, drunken with the wine
- 2:17:55Speaker 7: of wealth, and reckless. All their offerings have but a
- 2:17:59Speaker 7: show of reverence, being not made in piety of ancient faith.
- 2:18:04Speaker 7: Thus out to self, food, force, insolence, feasting, wrath, These
- 2:18:10Speaker 7: my blasphemers, in the forms they were, and in the
- 2:18:14Speaker 7: farms they breathe. My foemen, are hateful and hating, cruel evil.
- 2:18:19Speaker 7: Why the least of whom I cast down again and
- 2:18:22Speaker 7: at again, at end of lives into some devilish woom.
- 2:18:27Speaker 7: Whence birth by birth, the devilish wombs respawned them all
- 2:18:32Speaker 7: bigal and till they find and worship me, my sweet prince,
- 2:18:38Speaker 7: tread they not never row the doors of hell, or threefold,
- 2:18:42Speaker 7: whereby men to ruin pass the door of lust, the
- 2:18:45Speaker 7: door of wrath, the door of avaries. Let a man
- 2:18:49Speaker 7: shun these three. He who shall turn aside from entering
- 2:18:53Speaker 7: all those three gates of Narat, bendeth straight to find
- 2:18:58Speaker 7: his peace, and comes to Sorgus Gate. Here end up
- 2:19:02Speaker 7: Chapter sixteen of the bagword Eita, entitled they as with
- 2:19:07Speaker 7: Bagayog or the Book of the Separateness of the divine
- 2:19:11Speaker 7: and undivine end of Chapter sixteen, Chapter seventeen of religion,
- 2:19:19Speaker 7: by the threefold kinds of faith. If men forsake the
- 2:19:24Speaker 7: holy ordinance, heedless of shastras, yet keep faith at heart
- 2:19:29Speaker 7: and worship, what shall be the state of those late
- 2:19:33Speaker 7: Krishna Satwan Rajas Thomas say Krishna threefold. The faith is
- 2:19:40Speaker 7: of mankind, and springs from those three qualities, becoming true
- 2:19:44Speaker 7: or passion stained or dark. As thou shalt hear, the
- 2:19:49Speaker 7: faith of each believer Indian prince conforms itself to what
- 2:19:53Speaker 7: he truly is. Where thou shalt see a worshiper that
- 2:19:58Speaker 7: one to what he was. Ships lives assimilate, such as
- 2:20:02Speaker 7: the shrine, so is the watry, the soothfass souls adore
- 2:20:07Speaker 7: to guards. The souls obeying rajas worship protress us or yakshas.
- 2:20:13Speaker 7: And the men of darkness pray to pretas and to
- 2:20:16Speaker 7: botahs ay. And those who practice bitter penance not enjoyed
- 2:20:23Speaker 7: by rightful rule, banance which hath its root in self
- 2:20:27Speaker 7: sufficient proud hypocrisies. Those men passion viset violent while torturing
- 2:20:34Speaker 7: the witless ones. My elements shut in fire company within
- 2:20:38Speaker 7: their flesh, nay me myself present within the flesh. Know
- 2:20:44Speaker 7: them to devils devoted not to heaven. For like as
- 2:20:49Speaker 7: foods are threefold for mankind in nourishing, so is there
- 2:20:53Speaker 7: threefold way of worship, abstinence and almsgiving. Here this of
- 2:20:58Speaker 7: me there is a food brings force, substance, strength, and
- 2:21:03Speaker 7: health and joy to live, being well seasoned, ordial comforting,
- 2:21:08Speaker 7: the soothfast meat. And there being foods which break aches
- 2:21:12Speaker 7: and undress, and burning blood and grief, being too biting, heating,
- 2:21:17Speaker 7: salt and sharp, and therefore craved by too strong appetite.
- 2:21:22Speaker 7: And there is foul food kept from overnight, savorless, free
- 2:21:26Speaker 7: they which the fowl will eat, a feast of rottenness,
- 2:21:31Speaker 7: meat for the lips of such as love the darkness.
- 2:21:36Speaker 7: Thus with rites, a sacrifice not for rewardment, made offered
- 2:21:42Speaker 7: in rightful vise. When he who wos saith with heart devout.
- 2:21:48Speaker 7: This I should do is soothfast right, but sacrifice for
- 2:21:52Speaker 7: gay offered for good repute. Be sure that this o
- 2:21:56Speaker 7: best of Barathas is a just right with staff of passion,
- 2:22:01Speaker 7: and a sacrifice offered against the loss, with no due
- 2:22:05Speaker 7: door of footgiving, with no accompaniment of hollowed him not largness.
- 2:22:10Speaker 7: To the priests in faithless celebration, call it why the
- 2:22:15Speaker 7: deed of darkness, last worship of God's meriting worship slowly,
- 2:22:21Speaker 7: reverence of twice bonds, teachers purity, rectitude, and the Bramataria's war,
- 2:22:28Speaker 7: and not to endure any helpless thing. These make a
- 2:22:31Speaker 7: true religeousness of act, words causing no man woe, words
- 2:22:36Speaker 7: ever true gentle and pleasing words, and those essay in
- 2:22:41Speaker 7: murmured reading of sacred writ These make the true religiousness
- 2:22:45Speaker 7: of speech, serenity of soul, benignity, sway of the silent spirit,
- 2:22:51Speaker 7: constant streuss to sanctify the nature. These things make good,
- 2:22:56Speaker 7: right and true religiousness of mind. Such three four faith
- 2:23:00Speaker 7: in highest piety, kept with no hope of gain by
- 2:23:04Speaker 7: heart's duvot is perfect work of subtun true belief religion
- 2:23:09Speaker 7: shown in act of croud display to win good entertainment.
- 2:23:12Speaker 7: Worship faith such say I is of progous, trash and
- 2:23:17Speaker 7: way religion followed by a witless will to tortureself or
- 2:23:23Speaker 7: come at power to hurt another. Sir Thomas, dark and ill.
- 2:23:27Speaker 7: The gift lovingly given when one shall say now must
- 2:23:31Speaker 7: I gladly give when he who takes can render nothing back.
- 2:23:36Speaker 7: Made in due place, due time, and to a meet
- 2:23:39Speaker 7: recipient is gift of subtlen fair and profitable. The gift
- 2:23:45Speaker 7: selfishly given where to receive is hope again, or when
- 2:23:49Speaker 7: some end is sought, Or where the gift is proffered
- 2:23:52Speaker 7: with a grudge, This is a rugous stayed with impulse ill.
- 2:23:57Speaker 7: The gift churlishly flung at evil time, in wrongful place
- 2:24:02Speaker 7: to base recipient, made in this daying half unkindliness is
- 2:24:07Speaker 7: gift of Thomas dark It doth not bless here in
- 2:24:13Speaker 7: the chapter seventy of the bagad Gita entitles Radariyavi Babiho
- 2:24:18Speaker 7: or the Book of Religion by the Threefold Kinds of Faith.
- 2:24:23Speaker 7: End of chapter seventy of the bagd.
- 2:24:26Speaker 6: Vita, Chapter eighteen, Arjuna, fain, would I better know thou,
- 2:24:33Speaker 6: glorious one, the very truth Heart's Lord of sanyas, abstintion
- 2:24:38Speaker 6: and renunciation, Lord Tia, and what separates these twain Krishna.
- 2:24:46Speaker 6: The poets rightly teach that Sunyas is the foregoing of
- 2:24:50Speaker 6: all acts which spring out of desire, and their wisest
- 2:24:54Speaker 6: say tiaga is renouncing fruit of acts. There be among
- 2:24:59Speaker 6: the same some who have held all action sinful and
- 2:25:03Speaker 6: to be renounced, and some who answer nay, the goodly
- 2:25:07Speaker 6: acts as worship penance alms must be performed. Here now
- 2:25:13Speaker 6: my sentence, best of Barreta's, tis well set forth, O
- 2:25:18Speaker 6: chaser of thy foes. Renunciation is of threefold form, and
- 2:25:23Speaker 6: worship penance alms not to be stayed, nay to be
- 2:25:28Speaker 6: gladly done. For all those three are purifying waters for
- 2:25:32Speaker 6: true souls. Yet must be practiced, even those high works,
- 2:25:37Speaker 6: in yielding up attachment and all fruit produced by works.
- 2:25:42Speaker 6: This is my judgment, Prince, This my insuperable and fixed decree.
- 2:25:48Speaker 6: Abstaining from a work, by right prescribed never is meet.
- 2:25:53Speaker 6: So to abstain doth spring from darkness and delusion. Teacheth it.
- 2:25:58Speaker 6: Abstaining from a work grievous to flesh when one saith
- 2:26:02Speaker 6: tis unpleasing. This is null. Such an one acts from passion,
- 2:26:08Speaker 6: not of gain, wins his renunciation, but ar june, abstaining
- 2:26:13Speaker 6: from attachment to the work, abstaining from rewardment and the work.
- 2:26:18Speaker 6: While yet one doeth it full faithfully, saying tis right
- 2:26:22Speaker 6: to do that is true act and abstinence. Who doeth
- 2:26:27Speaker 6: duty so unvexed if his work fail, if it succeed,
- 2:26:32Speaker 6: unflattered in his own heart, justified, quit of debates and doubts,
- 2:26:38Speaker 6: his is true act. For being in the body, none
- 2:26:43Speaker 6: may stand wholly aloof from act. Yet who abstains from
- 2:26:47Speaker 6: profit of his acts is abstinent. The fruit of labours
- 2:26:52Speaker 6: and the lives to come is threefold for all men,
- 2:26:56Speaker 6: desirable and undesirable, and mixed of both. But no fruit
- 2:27:01Speaker 6: is at all where no work was here from me,
- 2:27:06Speaker 6: long armed Lord. The makings five which go to every
- 2:27:09Speaker 6: act in Sankia, taught as necessary, first the force, and
- 2:27:15Speaker 6: then the agent, next the various instruments, forth the especial effort, faith,
- 2:27:22Speaker 6: the God. What worksoever any mortal doth of body, mind,
- 2:27:28Speaker 6: or speech, evil or good? By these five doth he
- 2:27:32Speaker 6: that which being Thus, whoso, for lack of knowledge, seeth
- 2:27:37Speaker 6: himself as the sole actor, knoweth not at all and
- 2:27:41Speaker 6: seeth not. Therefore, I say, if one holding aloof him
- 2:27:47Speaker 6: self with unstained mind should slay all yonder host, being
- 2:27:52Speaker 6: bid to slay, he doth not slay. He is not
- 2:27:56Speaker 6: bound thereby knowledge. The thing known in the mind which
- 2:28:01Speaker 6: knows these make the threefold starting ground of act, the act,
- 2:28:06Speaker 6: the actor, and the instrument. These make the threefold total
- 2:28:11Speaker 6: of the deed. But knowledge, agent, act are differenced by
- 2:28:16Speaker 6: three dividing qualities. Here now, which be the qualities dividing them.
- 2:28:22Speaker 6: There is true knowledge. Learn now. It is this to
- 2:28:26Speaker 6: see one changeless life in all the lives, and in
- 2:28:31Speaker 6: the separate one inseparable. There is imperfect knowledge, that which
- 2:28:37Speaker 6: sees the separate existences apart, and being separated, holds them real.
- 2:28:44Speaker 6: There is false knowledge that which blindly clings to one,
- 2:28:48Speaker 6: as if twere all seeking no cause, deprived of light,
- 2:28:53Speaker 6: narrow and dull and dark. There is right action, that which,
- 2:29:00Speaker 6: being enjoined, is wrought without attachment, passionlessly for duty, not
- 2:29:06Speaker 6: for love, nor hate nor gain. There is vain action,
- 2:29:12Speaker 6: that which men pursue, aching dissatisfied desires, impelled by sense
- 2:29:17Speaker 6: of self, with all absorbing stress. This is of Rajah's
- 2:29:22Speaker 6: passionate and vain. There is dark action. When one doth
- 2:29:27Speaker 6: a thing heedless of issues, heedless of the hurt or
- 2:29:31Speaker 6: wrong for others, heedless if he harm his own soul,
- 2:29:35Speaker 6: tis of Tamas black and bad. There is the rightful doer,
- 2:29:42Speaker 6: he who acts free from self seeking, humble, resolute, steadfast
- 2:29:48Speaker 6: in good or evil, hap the same content to do
- 2:29:52Speaker 6: aright he truly acts. There is the impassioned doer, he
- 2:29:58Speaker 6: that works from impulse seeking profit, rude, and bold to overcome,
- 2:30:04Speaker 6: unchastened slave by turns of sorrow and of joy of
- 2:30:09Speaker 6: Rajah's He. And there be evildoers loose of heart, low minded, stubborn, fraudulent, remiss, dull, slow,
- 2:30:20Speaker 6: despondent children of the dark. Here too, of intellect insteadfastness,
- 2:30:27Speaker 6: the threefold separation conqueror prince. How these are set apart
- 2:30:32Speaker 6: by qualities. Good is the intellect which comprehends the coming
- 2:30:37Speaker 6: forth and going back of life, what must be done
- 2:30:41Speaker 6: and what must not be done, What should be feared
- 2:30:44Speaker 6: and what should not be feared, What binds and what
- 2:30:48Speaker 6: emancipates the soul that is of sut One, prince of sooth.
- 2:30:53Speaker 6: Fastness marred is the intellect which, knowing right and knowing wrong,
- 2:30:59Speaker 6: and what is well to do and what must not
- 2:31:02Speaker 6: be done, yet understands not with firm mind, nor as
- 2:31:06Speaker 6: the calm truth is. This is of Rajah's Prince, and passionate.
- 2:31:13Speaker 6: Evil is intellect, which wrapped in gloom, looks upon wrong
- 2:31:17Speaker 6: as right, and sees all things contrariwise of truth. O
- 2:31:23Speaker 6: Prita's son, that is of Tamas, dark and desperate. Good
- 2:31:30Speaker 6: is the steadfastness, whereby a man masters his beats of heart,
- 2:31:34Speaker 6: his very breath of life, the action of his senses
- 2:31:38Speaker 6: fixed in never shaken faith and piety. That is of
- 2:31:43Speaker 6: sut One Prince, soothe, fast and fair stained. Is the
- 2:31:48Speaker 6: steadfastness whereby a man holds to his duty, purpose, effort,
- 2:31:53Speaker 6: end for life's sake, and the love of goods to gain.
- 2:31:58Speaker 6: Arjuna tis of Raja's passion stamped sad is the steadfastness
- 2:32:05Speaker 6: wherewith the fool cleaves to his sloth, his sorrow, and
- 2:32:09Speaker 6: his fears, his folly in despair. This Prita's son is
- 2:32:15Speaker 6: born of Tamas, dark and miserable. Hear further, Chief of
- 2:32:21Speaker 6: Bartas from me the threefold kinds of pleasure which there be.
- 2:32:27Speaker 6: Good Pleasure is the pleasure that endures banishing pain for eye,
- 2:32:33Speaker 6: bitter at first as poison to the soul, but afterward
- 2:32:37Speaker 6: sweet as the taste of omrit. Drink of that it
- 2:32:42Speaker 6: springeth in the spirit's deep content and painful pleasure springeth
- 2:32:47Speaker 6: from the bond between the senses and the sense world.
- 2:32:51Speaker 6: Sweet as amrit is its first taste, but its last
- 2:32:55Speaker 6: bitter as poison tis of Raja's Prince. And foul and
- 2:33:00Speaker 6: dark the pleasure is which springs from sloth and sin
- 2:33:04Speaker 6: and foolishness at first and at the last, and all
- 2:33:09Speaker 6: the way of life. The soul bewildering tis of Tama's prince.
- 2:33:15Speaker 6: For nothing lives on earth, nor midst the gods in
- 2:33:18Speaker 6: utmost heaven, but hath its being bound with these three
- 2:33:22Speaker 6: qualities by nature framed. The work of Brahmins Kashatriyas, Vashias
- 2:33:29Speaker 6: and Sudras. O thou slayer of thy foes, is fixed
- 2:33:33Speaker 6: by reason of the qualities planted in each. A Brahmin's
- 2:33:38Speaker 6: virtues prince born of his nature are serenity, self, mastery, religion, purity, patience, uprightness, learning,
- 2:33:49Speaker 6: and to know the truth of things which be A
- 2:33:53Speaker 6: Kashatria's pride born of his nature lives in valor, fire, constancy, skins, skillfulness,
- 2:34:01Speaker 6: spirit and fight, and open handedness, and noble mien as
- 2:34:06Speaker 6: of a lord of men. A vicias task born with
- 2:34:10Speaker 6: his nature is to till the ground, tend cattle, venture trade,
- 2:34:16Speaker 6: a sudorous state suiting his nature is to minister whoso
- 2:34:22Speaker 6: performeth diligent content the work allotted him, whate'er it be,
- 2:34:28Speaker 6: lays hold of perfectness. Here how a man findeth perfection,
- 2:34:34Speaker 6: being so content, He findeth it through worship wrought by
- 2:34:39Speaker 6: work of him, that is the source of all which
- 2:34:43Speaker 6: lives of him, by whom the universe was stretched better
- 2:34:48Speaker 6: Thine own work is, though done with fault, than doing
- 2:34:52Speaker 6: others work even excellently. He shall not fall in sin
- 2:34:57Speaker 6: who fronts the task set him by nature.
- 2:35:00Speaker 8: Hand.
- 2:35:01Speaker 6: Let no man leave his natural duty. Prince, though it
- 2:35:05Speaker 6: bear blame for every work, hath blame, as every flame
- 2:35:10Speaker 6: is wrapped in smoke. Only that man attains perfect surces
- 2:35:15Speaker 6: of work, whose work was wrought with mind, unfettered soul,
- 2:35:20Speaker 6: wholly subdued desires, forever dead, results renounced. Learn from me,
- 2:35:27Speaker 6: son of Kunti, also this how one attaining perfect peace
- 2:35:33Speaker 6: attains Brahm, the supreme, the highest height of all, devoted
- 2:35:39Speaker 6: with a heart grown pure, restrained in lordly self control,
- 2:35:44Speaker 6: foregoing wiles of song and senses, freed from love and hate,
- 2:35:50Speaker 6: dwelling mid solitudes in diet, spare with body speech, and
- 2:35:56Speaker 6: will tame to obey ever to Holy Meday, meditation vowed
- 2:36:01Speaker 6: from passions, liberate, quit of the self of arrogance, impatience, anger, pride,
- 2:36:09Speaker 6: Freed from surroundings, quiet, lacking nought, such an one grows
- 2:36:15Speaker 6: to oneness with the brom Such an one growing one
- 2:36:20Speaker 6: with brahm, serene, sorrows, no more desires, no more his
- 2:36:26Speaker 6: soul equally loving all that lives, loves well me who
- 2:36:31Speaker 6: have made them, and attains to me by this same
- 2:36:36Speaker 6: love and worship. Doth he know me as I am,
- 2:36:39Speaker 6: how high and wonderful and knowing straightway enters into me,
- 2:36:45Speaker 6: And whatsoever deeds he doeth fixed in me as in
- 2:36:49Speaker 6: his refuge, he hath won forever and forever by My
- 2:36:54Speaker 6: grace the eternal rest. So when thou, in thy thoughts
- 2:37:00Speaker 6: do all thou dost for me, renounce for me, sacrifice
- 2:37:05Speaker 6: heart and mind, and will to me, live in the
- 2:37:09Speaker 6: faith of me, In faith of me, all dangers thou
- 2:37:13Speaker 6: shalt vanquish by my grace. But trusting to thyself and
- 2:37:19Speaker 6: heeding not, thou canst but perish. If this day thou
- 2:37:24Speaker 6: sayest relying on thyself. I will not fight vain will
- 2:37:29Speaker 6: the purpose prove thy qualities would spur THEE to the war.
- 2:37:34Speaker 6: What thou dost shun. Misled by fair illusions, thou wouldst
- 2:37:39Speaker 6: seek against thy will when the task comest to THEE,
- 2:37:44Speaker 6: waking the promptings in thy nature set There lives a
- 2:37:48Speaker 6: master in the hearts of men, maketh their deeds by
- 2:37:52Speaker 6: subtle pulling strings. Dance to what tune he will with
- 2:37:58Speaker 6: all thy soul. Trust him, and take him for thy
- 2:38:01Speaker 6: succor prince. So only so Arjuna shall thou gain, by
- 2:38:08Speaker 6: grace of him, the uttermost repose the eternal place. Thus
- 2:38:15Speaker 6: hath been open THEE, this truth of truths, this truth
- 2:38:19Speaker 6: of truths, the mystery more hid than any secret mystery. Meditate,
- 2:38:26Speaker 6: and as thou wilt, then act nay, but once more
- 2:38:33Speaker 6: take my last word, my utmost meaning. Have precious Thou
- 2:38:38Speaker 6: art to me? Right, well, beloved, listen, I tell THEE
- 2:38:43Speaker 6: for thy comfort this, give me thy heart, adore me,
- 2:38:48Speaker 6: serve me cling and faith and love and reverence to me.
- 2:38:53Speaker 6: So shalt thou come to me. I promise true, for
- 2:38:58Speaker 6: thou art sweet to me, And let go those rights
- 2:39:03Speaker 6: and writ duties. Fly to me alone. Make me thy
- 2:39:07Speaker 6: single refuge. I will free thy soul from all its sins.
- 2:39:13Speaker 6: Be of good cheer. Hide the Holy Cristhna saith this
- 2:39:18Speaker 6: from him that hath no faith, him that worships not
- 2:39:22Speaker 6: nor seeks Wisdom's teaching when she speaks. Hide it from
- 2:39:26Speaker 6: all men who mock. But wherever mid the flock of
- 2:39:30Speaker 6: my lovers, one shall teach this divinest, wisest speech, teaching
- 2:39:36Speaker 6: in the faith to bring truth to them, and offering
- 2:39:40Speaker 6: of all honor unto me, unto Brahma, cometh he nay.
- 2:39:45Speaker 6: And nowhere shall ye find any man of all mankind
- 2:39:50Speaker 6: doing dearer deed for me, Nor shall any dearer be
- 2:39:55Speaker 6: in my earth Yea. Furthermore, whoso reads this con o'er
- 2:40:01Speaker 6: held by us upon the plain, pondering piously and fain,
- 2:40:05Speaker 6: he hath paid me sacrifice. Krishna speaketh in this wise yea.
- 2:40:13Speaker 6: And whoso full of faith heareth wisely what it saith,
- 2:40:18Speaker 6: heareth meekly. When he dies, surely shall his spirit rise
- 2:40:24Speaker 6: to those regions where the blest free of flesh in
- 2:40:28Speaker 6: joyance rest. Hath this been heard by thee O Indian
- 2:40:33Speaker 6: Prince with mind intent, hath all the ignorance which bred
- 2:40:38Speaker 6: thy trouble vanished my Arjun, Arjuna, trouble and ignorance are gone.
- 2:40:46Speaker 6: The light hath come unto me by Thy favor. Lord.
- 2:40:50Speaker 6: Now am I fixed? My doubt is fled away according
- 2:40:54Speaker 6: to thy word? So will I do Sunjaya Thus gathered
- 2:41:02Speaker 6: I the gracious speech of Krishna, O my King. Thus
- 2:41:07Speaker 6: have I told with heart a thrill, this wise and
- 2:41:11Speaker 6: wondrous thing by great Vasa's learning. Wit how Krishna's self
- 2:41:16Speaker 6: made known, the Yoga being Yoga's lord. So is the
- 2:41:22Speaker 6: high truth shown? And I when I remember, O, Lord,
- 2:41:27Speaker 6: my King again Arjuna and the God in talk and
- 2:41:31Speaker 6: all this holy strain, great is my gladness When I
- 2:41:36Speaker 6: muse that splendor passing speech of Harry, visible and plain.
- 2:41:42Speaker 6: There is no tongue to reach my marvel and my
- 2:41:45Speaker 6: love and bliss, O Archer Prince, All hail O Krishna,
- 2:41:52Speaker 6: Lord of Yoga. Surely there shall not fail blessing and
- 2:41:56Speaker 6: victory and power for thy most my Where this song
- 2:42:02Speaker 6: comes of Arjun, and how with God he spake? Here
- 2:42:10Speaker 6: ends Chapter eighteen entitled Mokshassan Yasiyog or the Book of Religion,
- 2:42:16Speaker 6: by deliverance and renunciation. End of Chapter eighteen,
