- 0:25Speaker 1: It is time to leave your worries outside and laugh
- 0:28Speaker 1: with us inside the treehouse. I'm Daniel Malley along with
- 0:32Speaker 1: Trey Trendholm and Raj Sharma. Today Wednesday, March nineteenth, twenty
- 0:38Speaker 1: twenty five. You have made it to hump Day. Trey,
- 0:42Speaker 1: You've already got that look on your face.
- 0:44Speaker 2: It's a.
- 0:47Speaker 3: It's my favorite, it's my least favorite face.
- 0:54Speaker 4: I'm just wondering what the theme of today is going
- 0:56Speaker 4: to be.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Well, I'm wondering that too, because apparently it's not all
- 0:59Speaker 1: we intentional. Sometimes it just kind of happens by accident,
- 1:05Speaker 1: like truck stops. I mean, we're already here though, as
- 1:16Speaker 1: well as we'll finish anyway. Today is Wednesday, March nineteen,
- 1:20Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. Now I'm regretting having referred to today
- 1:23Speaker 1: as hump Day, but too late. There is something I
- 1:27Speaker 1: don't know about, any sort of theme that will run
- 1:29Speaker 1: through today's show. But I know that I wanted to
- 1:33Speaker 1: start with this particular topic because you, Trey and Raj
- 1:39Speaker 1: are both frat bros. You've you've not been you know,
- 1:43Speaker 1: in college for quite some time, but you know, you
- 1:46Speaker 1: guys had wonderful experiences in your respective fraternities in college, right,
- 1:53Speaker 1: Trey at ut you were a what I was a
- 1:57Speaker 1: fight out fight out and raj At at the time
- 2:01Speaker 1: Southwest Texas now Texas State.
- 2:03Speaker 3: You were a Pike.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Is there any sort of animosity between your two fraternities
- 2:10Speaker 1: or does it not really matter if.
- 2:11Speaker 2: It's from campus to campus?
- 2:14Speaker 3: No?
- 2:14Speaker 5: I yeah, I think there's every campus is different, and
- 2:19Speaker 5: yeah they're.
- 2:22Speaker 4: On specific campuses.
- 2:24Speaker 5: Some groups won't like other groups, but in general, I
- 2:26Speaker 5: don't think there's there's not a big rivalry, or at
- 2:30Speaker 5: least at least not not at Texas. I mean, everyone
- 2:35Speaker 5: was just out there to get drunk and have fun
- 2:37Speaker 5: and try to try to make it through school. One
- 2:41Speaker 5: of my best friends as a fight out. But at
- 2:43Speaker 5: Texas State, Sigma Nu was our rivalry.
- 2:48Speaker 6: They were gone for quite quite some time, but they
- 2:50Speaker 6: came back and they tried to reignite this rivalry for
- 2:52Speaker 6: no reason. But uh, before they did leave campus, their
- 2:56Speaker 6: house burned down and we ordered.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Pizzas to their house. Then we all sat on the
- 3:01Speaker 3: curb and watched it burn down.
- 3:04Speaker 2: You missed, You missed an opportunity for marshmallows.
- 3:08Speaker 3: We should have got smores. You're right, marshmallows all of it.
- 3:12Speaker 6: Yeah, I was a vice president, so I just ordered
- 3:14Speaker 6: pizzas to there.
- 3:16Speaker 1: It's probably the safe bet. Well, not all fraternities play
- 3:19Speaker 1: it safe, especially when it comes to hazing the pledges.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Today.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I'm speaking specifically about a UCF fraternity. No look, let
- 3:31Speaker 1: me preface this by saying, if this is true, it
- 3:34Speaker 1: is a horrible crime, but it also makes for a
- 3:38Speaker 1: pretty funny headline. A University of Central Florida fraternity is
- 3:42Speaker 1: in trouble for a hazing incident, which allegedly involved running
- 3:46Speaker 1: over pledges with a car.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I knew you'd laugh at that rash.
- 3:53Speaker 3: I knew it.
- 3:53Speaker 2: That story's for you. You love.
- 3:56Speaker 1: You love when people get hurt, hurt. You especially love
- 4:03Speaker 1: when people get hurt when it's their own fault. Now,
- 4:06Speaker 1: in this situation, it's not entirely the fault of the
- 4:09Speaker 1: pledges that they got run over by a car. However,
- 4:13Speaker 1: if you're pledging, if you're pledging a fraternity and one
- 4:19Speaker 1: of the guys says hang on and he comes back
- 4:21Speaker 1: with a car, I kind of feel like there's a
- 4:24Speaker 1: little bit of responsibility that needs to.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Fall on your shoulders.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Oh my lord.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Along with the Defenders fraternity.
- 4:40Speaker 3: You can see it. I can see it in my head.
- 4:42Speaker 2: That's fraternity.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Brothers at Sigma Kai allegedly hit pledges with a car
- 4:49Speaker 1: as part of a hazing ritual now under investigation by
- 4:52Speaker 1: the University of Central Florida. A sorority member whose house
- 4:57Speaker 1: is next door to Sigma Kaye's told police she heard yelling,
- 5:00Speaker 1: saw a car strike a young man, and then heard
- 5:03Speaker 1: someone shouting, help my bones, my bones, they're broken. I
- 5:10Speaker 1: would have preferred it if she heard my legs, my legs.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I can't feel my legs, but I'll take what we
- 5:15Speaker 1: can get. UF confirmed on Friday that it is investigating
- 5:23Speaker 1: allegations of hazing at Sigma Kai and Delta Upsalon. Both
- 5:27Speaker 1: have been suspended by the university and their national organizations
- 5:30Speaker 1: while the investigations of running over pledges with cars are underway. Okay,
- 5:37Speaker 1: look now, you guys were both in fraternities at any
- 5:43Speaker 1: point during the pledge process. Did you ever think, hey,
- 5:46Speaker 1: you know what these pledges need. Yeah, let's really test
- 5:53Speaker 1: their loyalty here.
- 5:55Speaker 4: Pussy was an F two to fifty.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Pussy was a text edition.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Did you guys ever win in your in your in
- 6:07Speaker 1: your I'm sure, your hazing traditions at your respective fraternities
- 6:11Speaker 1: in college were very grand, but were any of them
- 6:14Speaker 1: at their core deadly?
- 6:18Speaker 3: Yes, but no one died.
- 6:21Speaker 6: So but no, I mean they would read the hazing laws,
- 6:26Speaker 6: and Texas State is in Hayes County, so they would
- 6:29Speaker 6: read the hazing laws and then set it on fire
- 6:31Speaker 6: and say welcome to Hayes County.
- 6:33Speaker 3: And so that's when the hazing would start.
- 6:34Speaker 6: But I mean nothing to the point where somebody got.
- 6:38Speaker 2: It all right with all the pledges to line up
- 6:41Speaker 2: on the lawn and.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Don't move when they lined you up in the driveway.
- 6:47Speaker 3: There's a problem.
- 6:51Speaker 4: I mean, that's up the way.
- 6:53Speaker 5: We were forced to run neked around the fraternity house,
- 6:55Speaker 5: but not being followed by it by a truck.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Just imagine what the what the horrible situation that could
- 7:04Speaker 1: unfold the Texas Tech or they just line them up
- 7:06Speaker 1: at a firing squad. So you had to go streaking
- 7:13Speaker 1: as part of your hazing tray.
- 7:15Speaker 5: Yeah, like if you got shut out playing a game
- 7:18Speaker 5: of basketball, uh you Uh, the punishment was running around
- 7:23Speaker 5: the house naked and uh of course there were yeah,
- 7:26Speaker 5: people in shorties all around, so it wasn't a It
- 7:30Speaker 5: wasn't a fun deal, but again there was.
- 7:37Speaker 4: You were not being chased by a motorized vehicle.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Your insurance didn't go up.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Yeah, eternity insurance.
- 7:51Speaker 3: I think that's actually a thing.
- 7:54Speaker 4: It is a thing.
- 7:55Speaker 5: And at one point it was harder to ensure a
- 7:57Speaker 5: fraternity that it was a level four or biohazard viral
- 8:02Speaker 5: research center.
- 8:03Speaker 6: Yeah, which was also my fraternity house.
- 8:11Speaker 3: If you ever went to the Pike House in Texas State,
- 8:14Speaker 3: that was the level four. For sure, everyone's rates went up.
- 8:23Speaker 3: We were in good hands.
- 8:35Speaker 7: You're in the treehouse.
- 8:37Speaker 8: Visit us online at Treehouse on air dot com.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Let's get Daniel Cook from COOKDFW Roofing and Restoration into
- 8:45Speaker 1: the Treehouse. Their number for your free roof inspection eight
- 8:49Speaker 1: three three Cook DFW, the website, cookdfw dot com. The
- 8:53Speaker 1: RMS tree House Listeners Foundation exists to help the families
- 8:56Speaker 1: of fallen DFW police officers and firefighters killed in the
- 9:00Speaker 1: line of duty, and we've been very fortunate over the
- 9:03Speaker 1: years to partner with some outstanding companies wanting to help,
- 9:06Speaker 1: and today we get to add Cook DFW's name to
- 9:10Speaker 1: that list of excellent sponsors to the foundation because Daniel
- 9:13Speaker 1: you and your wife Carrie have said, you know what,
- 9:15Speaker 1: we love our community and we want to do something
- 9:17Speaker 1: to give back to our first responders in DFW Right.
- 9:20Speaker 9: Dan, that's absolutely correct, and you know, truth be known,
- 9:24Speaker 9: Carrie has given to the foundation for quite so many years.
- 9:28Speaker 9: But now at a company level, I think we are
- 9:31Speaker 9: wanting to definitely you know, beef that up and start
- 9:35Speaker 9: giving back to the foundation. And it's unfortunately, this is
- 9:38Speaker 9: a foundation nobody wants to have to donate to, but
- 9:41Speaker 9: it's the real world is that these things do happen,
- 9:44Speaker 9: and it's the type of foundation that you don't want around,
- 9:48Speaker 9: but you definitely want it to be you know, available
- 9:51Speaker 9: to the families that need it. And so over the
- 9:53Speaker 9: next couple of months, you know, a portion of all
- 9:56Speaker 9: the proceeds from the work done from Treehouse Listeners call
- 10:00Speaker 9: in and let us know that they heard about you
- 10:02Speaker 9: on the show. We're going to be donating to the
- 10:04Speaker 9: RMS Tree House Listeners Foundation and making sure that we
- 10:07Speaker 9: can keep that very stable in the accounting side and
- 10:12Speaker 9: have funds available that when the families need it, it's
- 10:15Speaker 9: going to be there. So we're very fortunate to be
- 10:18Speaker 9: a part of the organization and we look forward to
- 10:21Speaker 9: try and assist and help it as much.
- 10:23Speaker 4: As we can.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Not only a company that cares about you as a client,
- 10:26Speaker 1: but Cook DFW Roofing and Restoration also cares about its
- 10:29Speaker 1: first responders in our communities. So give them a call
- 10:32Speaker 1: for your roofing and restoration needs. Eight three three Cook
- 10:36Speaker 1: DFW eight three three Cook DFW. Make sure you tell
- 10:40Speaker 1: him you heard about him in the Treehouse and the

- 11:37Speaker 1: Daniel Malley along with Trade Trenholm and Raj Sharma. Raj
- 11:41Speaker 1: what was it you were saying about the uh, the
- 11:43Speaker 1: fraternity running over its pledges with cars.
- 11:47Speaker 6: I can't unsee it. It's in my head now. But
- 11:50Speaker 6: how bad do you want to be in that fraternity? Like,
- 11:53Speaker 6: I'm a proud member of the Pi cap Alpha fraternity,
- 11:55Speaker 6: but if somebody hit me with the car, I.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Think I'd quit the next day.
- 12:00Speaker 2: No, you bring up a great point.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I mean, at some point during the hazing process, especially
- 12:04Speaker 1: at this one at UCF and the Sigma Kai house,
- 12:08Speaker 1: once they run over one of your fellow pledges with
- 12:11Speaker 1: a car, shouldn't you stop and think? I wonder what
- 12:14Speaker 1: they're doing over at the Sigma New House, the Ronald
- 12:18Speaker 1: McDonald's house, any house other.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Than that one. I think some of them ended up
- 12:23Speaker 3: with the ron McDonald house.
- 12:28Speaker 6: I've never wanted to be in an organization that bad,
- 12:31Speaker 6: And I'm like, all right, go ahead, hit me, hit
- 12:34Speaker 6: me with your car.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Did they? Did they not do the paddling stuff to
- 12:38Speaker 2: you guys?
- 12:38Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah, for sure. See that.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I'm not anti fraternity and sorority, but I am for myself.
- 12:46Speaker 1: It was it was not an interest of mine. I
- 12:49Speaker 1: didn't have time for it anyway, because I was too
- 12:50Speaker 1: busy working and stuff and paying bills.
- 12:52Speaker 3: But I didn't like.
- 12:54Speaker 1: The idea of being tortured, ye to be well them
- 13:00Speaker 1: into the fold.
- 13:01Speaker 2: And also money was a factor.
- 13:03Speaker 1: I didn't have any, so I certainly wasn't going to
- 13:05Speaker 1: give it to someone to spank me.
- 13:10Speaker 3: You just do it at a BUCkies for free, not
- 13:19Speaker 3: being frugal.
- 13:21Speaker 5: Groups of young drunk boys and Dan getting spang now
- 13:25Speaker 5: the theme for to day.
- 13:27Speaker 3: That's the show title.
- 13:29Speaker 5: Yeah, uh yeah, it's because I went I went through
- 13:33Speaker 5: two different uh you know, hazing initiations, because one for fraternity,
- 13:38Speaker 5: one for Texas Cowboys, which is the group that fired
- 13:41Speaker 5: the cannon at the football games. And and it's hard
- 13:47Speaker 5: to explain if I tell you that it was some
- 13:50Speaker 5: of the dumbest crap ever especially but also I do
- 13:55Speaker 5: it again in a heartbeat.
- 13:56Speaker 4: It was. It was one of.
- 13:57Speaker 5: The most fun times I've had.
- 14:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:02Speaker 5: Yeah, there was some really stupid, dumb stuff that you
- 14:05Speaker 5: look back now and go even more so. Yeah, it
- 14:07Speaker 5: was really stupid, but also, you know, I would do
- 14:11Speaker 5: it again in a heartbeat. It was made lifelong friends
- 14:14Speaker 5: and yeah it was. Yeah, it was nothing.
- 14:19Speaker 2: That bad, gotcha.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Yeah, once once you get run over by a car.
- 14:24Speaker 4: Yeah, homicide was never an option.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Okay, that's good to know.
- 14:28Speaker 3: That's good to know.
- 14:29Speaker 1: It's important to know all the by laws the fraternity
- 14:31Speaker 1: that you're pledging.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Make sure that they have somewhere in there we won't
- 14:35Speaker 2: murder you.
- 14:36Speaker 3: I mean, our fraternity house had a morgue, so.
- 14:40Speaker 1: That potential was though that's different. Your house was at
- 14:44Speaker 1: one point a morgue hospital. Yes, that became a fraternity house.
- 14:49Speaker 1: It's not like you were so awful to your pledges
- 14:52Speaker 1: that you required one to be installed.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Apparently they do.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Yeah, they might be working towards it at the University
- 15:00Speaker 1: of Central Florida, because.
- 15:02Speaker 2: That really is frightening me.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Really, it's it's not.
- 15:08Speaker 1: So much about you know, who's the most loyal that
- 15:11Speaker 1: gets that, that gets into that fraternity.
- 15:14Speaker 3: It's just a matter of who's the last one living.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Those parties must be incredible. Have you been to the
- 15:23Speaker 3: Toga party. I'll get hit by a car to do
- 15:25Speaker 3: that one.
- 15:29Speaker 4: Bring your own white sheet.
- 15:34Speaker 2: That is Florida Tuesdays.
- 15:40Speaker 3: I'll tell you what.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Though, when when they when you buy the T shirt
- 15:42Speaker 1: though that says I survived the Sigma Kai party at
- 15:45Speaker 1: at University of Central Florida, they mean it, but again,
- 15:52Speaker 1: like me and fraternity stuff, they just it wasn't.
- 15:56Speaker 2: It wasn't a for me thing.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I will say though, that here you wax poetic about it,
- 16:01Speaker 1: Trey and Raj, You're you nodding in agreement, going, oh yeah,
- 16:05Speaker 1: some of the dumbest, stupidest, best times of my life.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I will say, there is a little twinge of envy
- 16:11Speaker 1: in there, but you know, I've I've also lived. I'm
- 16:15Speaker 1: just I just didn't have to get spanked by a dude.
- 16:19Speaker 5: Yeah you do that for free, to get mask on
- 16:22Speaker 5: and let it go.
- 16:25Speaker 1: What won't you do for beaver nuggets? Come on, now,
- 16:29Speaker 1: all right, that's not fair. Those are really good. But
- 16:34Speaker 1: you throwing you throwing some of that beaver jerky, and
- 16:36Speaker 1: by god, you're gonna see some stuff.

- 18:07Speaker 1: ol Maley along with Trey Trnholm and Raj Sharma back
- 18:09Speaker 1: inside the tree House Now on Wednesday, March nineteenth, twenty
- 18:14Speaker 1: twenty five. Raj, you were an officer and your frat.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Right I was vice president, yes, vice.
- 18:19Speaker 1: President, and you said you were telling me in training
- 18:22Speaker 1: to break that at your fraternity at Texas State at
- 18:26Speaker 1: the time, Southwest Texas. Your frat was full of hunters
- 18:29Speaker 1: and you had to tell them not to shoot stuff
- 18:31Speaker 1: from the house.
- 18:32Speaker 6: Yeah, Sigma Nude try to reignite this rivalry. And they
- 18:36Speaker 6: were like they called the house phone and then what
- 18:38Speaker 6: we're outside with chains and baseball bats? And I had
- 18:41Speaker 6: to explain to them, those nice young gentlemen that there
- 18:44Speaker 6: is we had a thirty two bedroom house, Like, there's
- 18:47Speaker 6: a lot of people that hunt here, and you're not
- 18:49Speaker 6: going to make it like.
- 18:50Speaker 3: These are the same guys that I like that we
- 18:52Speaker 3: had four acres of land.
- 18:53Speaker 6: Deer would fall asleep in the lawn and I'm like, please,
- 18:56Speaker 6: don't shoot the deer, please whatever you do. Uh Like,
- 19:00Speaker 6: is it because you're hindl No, because I have ethics,
- 19:04Speaker 6: I have a moral compass.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Please don't shoot the sleeping deer. Also, it's illegal, sure.
- 19:12Speaker 6: I mean it's still I mean trace, I mean it's
- 19:14Speaker 6: it's Sam Marcus. But the mayor was our buddy, so
- 19:16Speaker 6: I think we would have been okay.
- 19:20Speaker 5: Yeah, showing up at a charity house with with especially
- 19:24Speaker 5: I U T was was pretty similar. If you show
- 19:28Speaker 5: up with knives and change, you have literally brought a
- 19:32Speaker 5: knife to a gunfight. Yeah, that's exactly right. I was
- 19:36Speaker 5: the only one without a gun, and chances are half
- 19:42Speaker 5: the gun owners. Their B a c Is well above one.
- 19:48Speaker 3: On a Tuesday morning.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, definitely not the place to uh, you know,
- 19:56Speaker 1: start some stuff.
- 19:58Speaker 3: No, God, I'm in that case.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I'm I'm glad to live a little vicariously through through
- 20:06Speaker 1: U RAJ.
- 20:07Speaker 2: And you trade with your with your fraternity stories.
- 20:09Speaker 6: But you look like you're more of a fraternity guy
- 20:12Speaker 6: than the two of us, Like you look like one.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Oh, I guess I could see that, especially right now.
- 20:20Speaker 2: But like if you were to see Trey in his
- 20:21Speaker 2: younger days.
- 20:22Speaker 1: You'd be like, oh, yeah, that's that's a quality frat
- 20:25Speaker 1: guy right there.
- 20:26Speaker 6: Yeah, I could see the Texas cowboy. I could see
- 20:28Speaker 6: that for sure. But you will when you look at me,
- 20:31Speaker 6: you don't. You don't think Pike. You think like teachers aid, like,
- 20:36Speaker 6: that's that's what I look like.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Leading research team.
- 20:45Speaker 1: All right, So you were the one as vice president
- 20:48Speaker 1: of your fraternity, RAJ, you were the one that had
- 20:50Speaker 1: to give out warnings and things to the fraternity members.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Yeah, sort of.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Well, there was another warning issued recently that I want
- 20:59Speaker 1: to do share with you, and that is from the FBI. Uh,
- 21:03Speaker 1: nothing having to do with fraternities. Although the Central Florida
- 21:07Speaker 1: may have to answer a phone call on on some
- 21:10Speaker 1: but no, the FBI has actually issued a nationwide warning
- 21:15Speaker 1: about a new wave of smishing attacks which are spreading
- 21:19Speaker 1: across the United States. Smishing texts are fraudulent messages sent
- 21:24Speaker 1: via SMS, short message service or text messaging, hence the
- 21:28Speaker 1: smishing that's what why they call it that, with the
- 21:31Speaker 1: intent to trick recipients into revealing personal information such as passwords,
- 21:35Speaker 1: credit card details, or other sensitive data. I've actually, I
- 21:40Speaker 1: think I've gotten a few of these lately.
- 21:42Speaker 4: So you for this.
- 21:44Speaker 5: I mean, you know I was gonna say something, but yeah,
- 21:49Speaker 5: because he's brown and you think he would scam.
- 21:52Speaker 6: I feel you looked right at me when you said FBI,
- 21:58Speaker 6: because I was trying to make a segue from you
- 22:00Speaker 6: being the enforcer at your fraternity to the FBI enforcing
- 22:03Speaker 6: a warning.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Nothing, nothing that you suspect. No, I'm just gonna go
- 22:09Speaker 3: on board myself.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Now, I really did I got this one, I think
- 22:19Speaker 1: on Friday. I'm pretty sure this is a smishing one,
- 22:22Speaker 1: one that from a phone number I've never seen before.
- 22:24Speaker 1: It's on my phone, it's not saved, just simply saying
- 22:27Speaker 1: how is your day? There was a there's God, there's
- 22:32Speaker 1: been so many.
- 22:34Speaker 3: I keep getting the whole road ones.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I've gotten those. I've gotten those from the North Texas
- 22:40Speaker 1: Tollway Authority. I've gotten those.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Yep.
- 22:44Speaker 2: What is it, Trey?
- 22:46Speaker 4: I'm sure you have gotten all sorts of text Dan?
- 22:51Speaker 3: Is that what you call it? Smishing?
- 22:53Speaker 4: Is that what it is?
- 22:57Speaker 3: I thought it'd be more like smushing? But uh, but
- 23:00Speaker 3: what do I know?
- 23:02Speaker 2: Here's another one, Hey, how have you been still looking
- 23:04Speaker 2: for you?
- 23:09Speaker 1: There's another back. There's another one that's just a smiley face.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Wonder there was one just a license plate. One just
- 23:24Speaker 3: says Peterbilt.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Uh.
- 23:28Speaker 2: There was even another one. And I assume that this
- 23:31Speaker 2: was also a scam.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Uh hang on, where it the go?
- 23:36Speaker 4: Oh?
- 23:37Speaker 3: There it is?
- 23:37Speaker 1: Uh. This it's one that says, help my car broke down.
- 23:41Speaker 1: I got that text last night.
- 23:46Speaker 3: It was from Sigma KA.
- 23:50Speaker 5: No car breaks down. That'd be like the confetti emoji.
- 24:04Speaker 5: Why'd you send back the emoji?
- 24:06Speaker 1: Whiskey, I'm not even gonna tell you about this eggplant
- 24:11Speaker 1: smushing text.
- 24:12Speaker 3: I guess.

- 25:12Speaker 1: Daniel Malley along with Trade Trenholme and Raj Sharma on Wednesday,
- 25:16Speaker 1: March nineteenth, two Thy twenty five. In the midst of
- 25:20Speaker 1: all this fun and frivolity, we do have some sad
- 25:24Speaker 1: news to report. Another major mall brand is pulling down
- 25:29Speaker 1: the chain door and turning off the lights. Forever twenty
- 25:32Speaker 1: one is closing.
- 25:35Speaker 3: So sad I know.
- 25:37Speaker 1: For the second time in six years. Forever twenty one
- 25:40Speaker 1: has filed for Chapter eleven bankruptcy protection, citing declining mall
- 25:44Speaker 1: traffic and increased competition from online retailers such as Shine
- 25:49Speaker 1: and Timu. The company plans to close all three hundred
- 25:52Speaker 1: and fifty US stores, initiating liquidation sales to sell off
- 25:57Speaker 1: remaining inventory. So sad their major mall brand bites the dust.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Yeah, now we're a forty five year old women Gonna Shop.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Really was one of the more ironically named stores.
- 26:13Speaker 3: Like it like it was.
- 26:14Speaker 1: It was called Forever twenty one, but really it was
- 26:16Speaker 1: more like wish I was still twenty one actual. You know,
- 26:20Speaker 1: I will say, I think Forever twenty one is I
- 26:25Speaker 1: guess that would be a millennial brand. So I don't
- 26:28Speaker 1: know if millennial the millennial generation really has a stable
- 26:32Speaker 1: of brands that have gone extinct, they can actually feel
- 26:37Speaker 1: nostalgic about that. We do in gen X, Like we
- 26:41Speaker 1: had Woolworths and you know, toy stores.
- 26:45Speaker 2: I'm trying to think of the other the other stores
- 26:48Speaker 2: in the malls.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Yeah there was okay, well the mall I the first
- 26:51Speaker 1: mall I grew up with.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Had a Woolworths. It was kind of set.
- 26:55Speaker 3: It was old.
- 26:57Speaker 2: But there were stores in the mall that you would oca.
- 26:59Speaker 1: That you would art to see go away. Gad Zooks
- 27:02Speaker 1: was a big one that finally went away. Hot Hot
- 27:06Speaker 1: Topic was gone, but now it's kind of back again.
- 27:10Speaker 1: But yeah, Forever twenty one going dark inside the mall,
- 27:12Speaker 1: along with so many other brands.
- 27:14Speaker 2: I just miss it was.
- 27:15Speaker 1: I think it was the arcade at the mall was
- 27:19Speaker 1: called a Laddin. I think it was called the Laddin's
- 27:21Speaker 1: Arcade at one point.
- 27:22Speaker 6: Yeah, that's right, and then it changed to Tilt yep,
- 27:25Speaker 6: and then from tilt it went to I think like
- 27:28Speaker 6: some sort of like herbal holistic store.
- 27:32Speaker 3: I think that's what happened to it.
- 27:33Speaker 6: I just want to see how nostalgic you get when
- 27:35Speaker 6: I say Montgomery Wards.
- 27:38Speaker 2: I'm not as I'm not as nostalgic about that one.
- 27:41Speaker 1: That that that Montgomery Ward was not one of my
- 27:44Speaker 1: normal anchor stores at the mall.
- 27:48Speaker 3: You're more of a Seers guy. Yes, the the Sears.
- 27:56Speaker 1: The Sears at the mall in Bartlesville, Oklahoma held out
- 27:59Speaker 1: strong for.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Many many years.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Sanger Harris.
- 28:07Speaker 1: All right knocked that one, I will say, not Singer Harris,
- 28:11Speaker 1: which turned into which Yeah.
- 28:14Speaker 4: Actually, I think the mall store that.
- 28:16Speaker 5: I probably had the most most attachment to would have
- 28:20Speaker 5: been Sharper Image.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Oh that's because you're a Highland park.
- 28:25Speaker 4: No, they always had the coolest stuff.
- 28:27Speaker 6: Yeah, we had a Sharper Image of the county small
- 28:29Speaker 6: for about a day and a half. They realized very
- 28:34Speaker 6: quickly nobody could afford anything in that store, so I
- 28:39Speaker 6: think they moved it to your neighborhood.
- 28:43Speaker 5: But no, that was there was always one in North
- 28:45Speaker 5: Park and that was yeah, uh, that was always the
- 28:49Speaker 5: coolest stuff.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Yeah. What was the mall?
- 28:52Speaker 1: I'm trying to remember this was this was back in
- 28:54Speaker 1: the late eighties, early nineties.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Straight and pretty sure it was Dallas.
- 29:00Speaker 1: If it was near downtown, like there was a store
- 29:02Speaker 1: that had like you had like a a basement Sears.
- 29:06Speaker 1: There was a mall, but then there was like a
- 29:07Speaker 1: basement level where you'd go.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Down and please ask pa. That's where my mom would
- 29:16Speaker 2: take me to get my Huskies jeans.
- 29:19Speaker 3: She took you to a basement. It was pretty sure.
- 29:29Speaker 3: It was right next to abductions.
- 29:38Speaker 4: Of course you remember Emmy Moses where you got cheap candy.
- 29:43Speaker 3: You said, Moses, I haven't heard that.
- 29:47Speaker 2: No, I'm serious. Now I need to call my mom
- 29:49Speaker 2: and I need to ask her. H I need to
- 29:51Speaker 2: ask her what what was What was the store that
- 29:53Speaker 2: you took me to them?
- 29:54Speaker 1: Almost positive it was a Sears where it was like
- 29:57Speaker 1: in the basement level to go get pants.
- 30:00Speaker 3: You got pants in the basement.
- 30:05Speaker 4: That was that before or after?
- 30:08Speaker 3: Who they come off of?
- 30:17Speaker 7: You're in the tree House.
- 30:19Speaker 8: Visit us online at Treehouse on Air dot com. You're

- 30:56Speaker 3: So give us a.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Follow on social media at Treehouse on Air.
- 31:03Speaker 1: It didn't work so well for me yesterday, but I'm
- 31:05Speaker 1: gonna give it another world today to try to, you know,
- 31:08Speaker 1: try to steer us back onto course here inside the Treehouse,
- 31:12Speaker 1: which seems to have run amock a bit. And to
- 31:15Speaker 1: do that, I'm going to attempt birthdays today. It's Wednesday,
- 31:19Speaker 1: March nineteenth, two five. Let's celebrate with some birthdays. Turning
- 31:26Speaker 1: forty three today is a man named Eduardo Savareen. He's
- 31:29Speaker 1: according to the movie The Social Network, He's the one
- 31:32Speaker 1: that helped create Facebook and then got shut out by
- 31:35Speaker 1: Mark Zuckerberg. I say according to the movie because I
- 31:38Speaker 1: don't know if that's exactly how it actually happened or not.
- 31:41Speaker 1: But still a guy who supposedly helped found Facebook. Even
- 31:47Speaker 1: though he's not as well known as Mark Zuckerberg, he's
- 31:51Speaker 1: still worth about thirty billion dollars in his own right,
- 31:54Speaker 1: So not doing too bad, not bad when you again,
- 32:00Speaker 1: it's not a bad outcome when you think about how
- 32:02Speaker 1: Facebook actually started, which was supposed to be the objectification
- 32:06Speaker 1: of female classmates at Harvard. Ultimately they shifted a bit
- 32:16Speaker 1: in their content strategy.
- 32:19Speaker 2: And it paid off. I did I think it was
- 32:23Speaker 2: was an Eilish Slushinger.
- 32:24Speaker 4: I saw.
- 32:26Speaker 1: It was a comedy clip. I think it was on
- 32:28Speaker 1: Facebook actually that I saw the other day. I think
- 32:30Speaker 1: it was Eilish Slushinger.
- 32:33Speaker 3: What.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Elizah Slushinger has a new comedy special out and she
- 32:37Speaker 1: was talking about as either gen X or millennial. She
- 32:40Speaker 1: was saying how gen Z needs to respect the older
- 32:43Speaker 1: generations more for our social media prowess because we started
- 32:49Speaker 1: with things like friends her in my Space. I was like, God,
- 32:54Speaker 1: there are times I kind of missed those old days
- 32:56Speaker 1: of basic social media as opposed to all the horrific
- 33:01Speaker 1: stuff that's happened to social media since.
- 33:03Speaker 3: Yeah, you were in my top eight for years.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Yes, likewise and on MySpace, and I don't know if
- 33:15Speaker 1: there was anyone more excited when the top friends list
- 33:18Speaker 1: expanded than me.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Oh yes, I could go from eight to sixteen and
- 33:22Speaker 2: the blink of an eye. See sometimes I just serve
- 33:27Speaker 2: it up for you, dre I was waiting for it.
- 33:30Speaker 3: You could go from eight to sixteen. And that's just
- 33:32Speaker 3: a Friday night.
- 33:36Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure the buckis bathrooms are go to like
- 33:39Speaker 2: sixty four.
- 33:42Speaker 3: It's good to have goals.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Dan other birthdays today head coach of the Kansas City
- 33:49Speaker 1: Chiefs Andy Reid is sixty seven. It's mainly older birthdays today.
- 33:55Speaker 1: So Andy Reid, head coach of the Chiefs, sixty seven today.
- 33:59Speaker 1: It's a great example, just a touch on sports, great
- 34:01Speaker 1: example of they always talked about when he was the
- 34:04Speaker 1: head coach of the Eagles, Oh can't can't win the
- 34:06Speaker 1: big one kind of situation. And then you know, he
- 34:10Speaker 1: goes away from the Eagles and then he takes over
- 34:12Speaker 1: the Chiefs and it's every other year. The Chiefs were
- 34:16Speaker 1: winning a Super Bowl since he took over. Sometimes the
- 34:19Speaker 1: NFL is so flawed.
- 34:22Speaker 5: But he had the foresight to move up in the
- 34:25Speaker 5: draft to take Patrick Mahomes and I think tenth, you know,
- 34:28Speaker 5: because and I say this, you know at the time
- 34:33Speaker 5: they were all in the same conference. Yeah, Texas techet
- 34:36Speaker 5: had a string of quarterbacks that were just rag arms,
- 34:38Speaker 5: but they put up big numbers and I think Patrick
- 34:41Speaker 5: Mahoons kind of got caught up in that. And clearly
- 34:44Speaker 5: Andy Reid saw something that other people missed. And you know,
- 34:49Speaker 5: other than Tom Brady in the last round, Yeah, Mahomes
- 34:53Speaker 5: was pretty good pick up at number ten.
- 34:56Speaker 2: I'm still stunned, even even as a Cowboys fan. I'm
- 34:58Speaker 2: still stunned that the that not one Andy Reid led
- 35:02Speaker 2: Eagles team won a Super Bowl and very I'm still
- 35:05Speaker 2: surprised by that. Have you also seen the footage of
- 35:08Speaker 2: him when he was ten for the any Reid or
- 35:11Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes any Reid, No, Yeah, you gotta, you gotta
- 35:15Speaker 2: look that up. It's a fantastic video. It's that pass
- 35:18Speaker 2: punt thing that.
- 35:20Speaker 4: They Oh I have seen that. Yeah, he's a huge kid,
- 35:25Speaker 4: just kicking the He's like six' three.
- 35:29Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 35:30Speaker 5: He looks like kids like nine or ten. Yes, he
- 35:36Speaker 5: looks like an adult. Like he looks like he could
- 35:40Speaker 5: be driving and have a cigarette.
- 35:42Speaker 3: He probably did, Yeah.
- 35:47Speaker 2: And his dad picking up chicks at a happy hour.
- 35:52Speaker 6: Yeah, he's like six two, six' one something like. That he's,
- 35:55Speaker 6: giant and like everybody behind him is a normal sized.
- 35:59Speaker 6: Kid so it's just kind of fun to. Watch if
- 36:02Speaker 6: you get a chance to watch the, video it's. Hilarious
- 36:03Speaker 6: i'll go look that.
- 36:04Speaker 1: UP i do, remember like back in you, know especially middle,
- 36:07Speaker 1: school whatever school district you were, in if you played
- 36:10Speaker 1: football or, basketball whatever, sport there was always one school
- 36:14Speaker 1: in your in your district or in your city that
- 36:17Speaker 1: had that one guy that really did look like one
- 36:21Speaker 1: of the. Coaches and some some schools kind of had
- 36:25Speaker 1: one on each. Team it just kind of. Depended BUT
- 36:27Speaker 1: i still, remember you, know in middle school football looking
- 36:29Speaker 1: at some of the guys and other teams going, like
- 36:31Speaker 1: oh my, god that looks like a college.
- 36:33Speaker 6: GUY i remember playing tenth grade football At potsit and
- 36:39Speaker 6: The Highland Park scotts showed up And i'm, like they
- 36:42Speaker 6: have facial, Hair like what is going? On like the
- 36:45Speaker 6: guys have, beards and then you find out you guys
- 36:50Speaker 6: hold them back for a year every now and again
- 36:52Speaker 6: to have a better. Team BUT i mean what when
- 36:55Speaker 6: we walked on the, FIELD i was, like, oh we're gonna.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Lose well not only, that but your parents in the,
- 37:02Speaker 1: stands there has to be a legitimate level of concern
- 37:06Speaker 1: because you as a, kid as the, athlete you're looking
- 37:09Speaker 1: across at those other, kids seeing what looked to be
- 37:13Speaker 1: grown adults suited up that you're about to play. Against
- 37:15Speaker 1: but your parents in the stands should also be noticing
- 37:19Speaker 1: that and, thinking we're not even forget, winning we just
- 37:22Speaker 1: don't know if they're going to.
- 37:23Speaker 6: Live, YEAH i, Mean trey knows, this he knows the.
- 37:29Speaker 6: Team when they showed, up it was we're gonna get,
- 37:34Speaker 6: hurt like that was the.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Thing kind of like it kind of like In Friday Night,
- 37:39Speaker 1: lights both the real version of it When Odessa permian
- 37:43Speaker 1: played in the state title game Against Dallas carter and
- 37:46Speaker 1: the movie. Version especially in the movie, version there's all
- 37:50Speaker 1: these young white kids that actually look like high school
- 37:52Speaker 1: kids and here comes To Dallas carter cowboys and they
- 37:55Speaker 1: all look like they're in their twenties and.
- 37:56Speaker 3: Thirties they probably.
- 37:58Speaker 4: Were, yeah.
- 38:06Speaker 5: But high The park was one of the first schools
- 38:08Speaker 5: before it became a thing Of they started your seventh
- 38:13Speaker 5: grade year and you were starting to run the offense
- 38:16Speaker 5: of the high, school you, know and they were you
- 38:21Speaker 5: were getting groomed for a certain.
- 38:23Speaker 4: Position not you're kind of Grooming dan for. Football dare you.
- 38:32Speaker 3: You groomed on the football team, Too But i'm just,
- 38:34Speaker 3: saying you know WHAT i played split end once it
