- 0:04Let me your ear. I got something you need to hear.
- 0:07Turn the volume up so it's loud and clear. A podcast where we talk about politics
- 0:12and culture are scripted no limits like a 504 soldier. We're not pretenders. Ain't no agendas.
- 0:17Our only plan is to keep the 100 and do it for the fam. Yeah.
- 0:24What up what up what up what's going on same old same six mil keeping it true
- 0:30it's your boy kg welcome to another episode of for the fam podcast episode 14 yes sir teenagers.
- 0:44Sir man so what's been up with you bro how you feeling good man can't complain
- 0:48you know as we We were talking before we started trying to start a new,
- 0:54trying to eat a little bit healthier, stay away from the fast food.
- 0:57And something I didn't mention, I do feel a lot better without all that extra,
- 1:01you know, eating all that.
- 1:02For real, for real. So just trying to make a turn, eat a little bit better.
- 1:06That's what's up. I can't argue with that. You know, I always try and be health
- 1:10conscious and eat healthy and exercise and stuff.
- 1:13So, yeah, man, that's what's up. You ever need any any tips?
- 1:19Oh, let me. You know I got you. I got you. It's the discipline.
- 1:22It is the discipline. And it gets easier the more you do it,
- 1:26though. Like anything, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:30So what do you want to get into today? So we're going to talk about the 10 best black sitcoms.
- 1:37We don't have any eras that are blacked out.
- 1:41For example, we can go back to the 70s, 80s, 90s. It doesn't matter.
- 1:44But as you mentioned before we started, no sketch comedies, no Unliving Color,
- 1:49no show has to be an actual sitcom. Correct.
- 1:53So we're not going to do any type of ranking in a particular order.
- 1:58We're just picking 10.
- 2:02Now, of course, this is subjective.
- 2:06And this is a reason for y'all to get at us in the comments.
- 2:08You know what I'm saying?
- 2:09If we leave off your favorite show or there's a show that you think that we
- 2:13miss, holla at us in the comments.
- 2:16You got no excuse not to. Also.
- 2:20Nothing makes the list unless we both agree on it. Right.
- 2:25So if there is one that comes up and we don't agree, then we have to explain
- 2:32why it cannot make the list.
- 2:36So with that being said, let's get into it, bro. Let's let's let's have some fun with this thing.
- 2:42All right. You want me to start? You gonna start? Go ahead, bro.
- 2:45All right. I'm I'm I'm I'm copping out. I'm doing the easy one first, Martin. Definitely.
- 2:53Start easy. Something I know we both like. Yeah, definitely. Definitely.
- 2:58So, Martin, for sure. All right. That's an easy one.
- 3:03I'm going to do the controversial. Well, I guess controversial, too.
- 3:07Cosby show in a different world.
- 3:10Not the shows themselves, but because of Cosby and his bad juju. Right.
- 3:17Are we excluding those or are they? Hell no. They are fair game.
- 3:21All right. Cool. Well, Cosby show. Absolutely. All right. Cool.
- 3:25Without a doubt. Without a damn. All right. All right. Cool.
- 3:28I'm glad we on the same page on that.
- 3:30So I'm about to hit something that a lot of people might not remember or even know about.
- 3:36Amen. I got amen on my list. One of my favorite shows. Love it.
- 3:41All right. I'm with it. Let's go with it.
- 3:44Let's go with it. So we got Martin so far. We got Cosby show.
- 3:48We got amen. All right, cool.
- 3:52I'm going to go with a classic, Sanford and Son. Oh, yeah.
- 3:56Okay. Watch the episode of Sanford and Son yesterday. Without a doubt,
- 3:59Sanford and Son. All right, we got four.
- 4:02Here's one, Living Single. I got it on my list.
- 4:09But can we come back to it? Yeah. Let's come back to Living Single.
- 4:17And there's a reason why I'm saying let's come. No, no, no. You know what?
- 4:20Forget it. Yes. Living Single was a yes.
- 4:23We can still revisit it. Okay. On what you were thinking about.
- 4:30Well, here's something I will say about Living Single. For all of the Friends
- 4:35people, they stole their idea from Living Single.
- 4:42Friends is basically the white version of Living Single.
- 4:46So, yeah, Living Single is on the list. Although a lot of people disagree with that.
- 4:50But however, it's the exact same format.
- 4:55It's so obvious once you get into it and you get past your racial bias.
- 5:00It's 100 percent. I ain't going to say the same show, but it's the same setup. Mm-hmm. All right.
- 5:08What about Family Matters?
- 5:15I mean, I can't disagree because, I mean, we all loved Family Matters.
- 5:19That TGIF lineup was undefeated. Yeah.
- 5:24Yeah, let's do that. All right. All right. All right. We got Family Matters on the list.
- 5:29We got to get into some ones that we're going to have to start cutting here
- 5:33because this list is going to fill up real fast.
- 5:35It's one that I can't even believe we ain't mentioned yet, but I'm going to
- 5:39save it. I'm going to wait and see if you bring it up. But I got one that's controversial.
- 5:43It ain't any controversial. It was just only on the air for three years.
- 5:47Rock. I got rock on my list, bro.
- 5:51Rock. Two of the most, no, three or four of the most powerful episodes in sitcom
- 5:56history, in my opinion. I know which one you're talking about.
- 5:59With Clifton? Yes, sir. Yes, sir.
- 6:02Man. Yes, sir. And if you guys don't know what we're talking about,
- 6:06look up Rock, R-O-C, with Clifton Powell.
- 6:10And this is about three or four episodes he played
- 6:13the drug dealer it was i'm gonna i'm gonna say
- 6:16let's let's let's hold off on rock for now
- 6:19and we can definitely revisit it it it
- 6:22may be like an honorable mention but but yeah
- 6:25i like i like rock we got we got to give it some
- 6:28type of shine because i did like that show i'm gonna
- 6:31go one for the uh the next generation one-on-one
- 6:36one-on-one was a give
- 6:39me the main character flex and kyla pratt he was raising he was the single dad
- 6:45raising her yep oh boy with the funny eyes so here's why i'm almost tempted
- 6:50to say no if you want to say no just say no but i want to tell you why okay
- 6:55because i enjoyed the show okay i did give it to me.
- 6:59Somebody hired Flex to play Michael Jackson. Okay, enough said.
- 7:04One-on-one ain't making the list. And I love Flex. One-on-one ain't making the
- 7:07list. All right, enough said.
- 7:09Have you ever seen the videos where he's making fun of himself,
- 7:11too, when somebody bring it up? It's pretty funny.
- 7:14But, oh, my God, man. I can't believe they hired Flex to play.
- 7:18No, man, it was terrible. Was that VH1? Yeah. It was terrible.
- 7:22Yeah, it was really bad.
- 7:25All right, one-on-one. Not going to make the best.
- 7:29All right, I'll go ahead and bring it up since we neither one of us has done it yet.
- 7:33Fresh Prince. I got it on my list. I was I was I was waiting.
- 7:38I felt like it was like kind of obvious. Yeah.
- 7:41But yeah, yeah, yeah. OK. That one and those that one and Martin was almost like. Yeah. Givens.
- 7:47That's that's seven, bro. We going through it. We might have to do more than
- 7:5010 or we're going to have to do a part two because we get in the 10 like real fast.
- 7:56I think that's probably because we're not explaining some of them,
- 7:58too. Well, I don't think they need explaining, though.
- 8:02I mean, for our target audience, who does not know what's on this list.
- 8:08You know what I'm saying?
- 8:09But I'm going to go to one that I think probably should be on here is getting
- 8:14overlooked. The Jamie Foxx show.
- 8:17No? Wasn't a fan. All right. All right.
- 8:20You want to know why? Yes. I just thought it was corny as hell.
- 8:23I thought Jamie Foxx overdid everything. I thought it was just. corny.
- 8:27With Fancy and Braxton and... No, I thought everybody else was cool.
- 8:32I just thought Jamie Foxx was corny as hell on that show.
- 8:35Okay, alright. I thought he overdid it. Alright, cool. Jamie Foxx show was a no.
- 8:39I can hear people not going, what? I love Jamie Foxx. I just didn't like the
- 8:43show. Alright, alright. Cool.
- 8:45Except for that episode with Mark Curry, where he was a drill sergeant doing the...
- 8:50Personally, I liked the Jamie Foxx show. It started getting corny towards the end, like...
- 8:56When they didn't have anywhere else to go, when him and Fancy finally got together
- 8:59and he was leaving for whatever he was trying to do.
- 9:03And I was getting kind of corny. But I thought those first couple of seasons
- 9:06were actually pretty good.
- 9:08All right. I'm going to take it way back to the 70s.
- 9:11What's happening? I got what's happening on my list, bro.
- 9:15Listen, if you told me I could only watch one sitcom for the next six months
- 9:19and told me it was what's happening, I'd be like, all right.
- 9:23Don't worry. I watch it every day, all day. No, no complaints, bro.
- 9:28I like what's happening. So that's eight. We got two more spots.
- 9:35Let me see. I'm trying. I'm trying to get some of these newer shows and not
- 9:40just stick to like our generation. What about Moesha?
- 9:44I liked Moesha. Enough for it to make this list is one of the top 10 or.
- 9:50No. And here's why. OK, because we still got some heavy hitters left on it,
- 9:54at least on my list. I got some heavy hitters on here. Here's why.
- 9:57The whole drama with her dad and Ray J.
- 10:03It's character unnecessary all of it the writing all of it completely unnecessary
- 10:10to have a perfectly happy because you know how I feel about every time somebody
- 10:15makes a movie that involves a black family or hell even a white family there's always the asshole kid,
- 10:21there's never just a happy ass household the Moesha household was happy,
- 10:27and then all of a sudden his wife like no I can't trust you no more what was
- 10:31the point of writing that in there I thought Ray J as a character,
- 10:36period, was unnecessary.
- 10:37Well, yeah, that too. The show was fine without him. Spring Brandy's brother.
- 10:42Yeah, why? All right, let's do it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:45All right, cool. No to Moesha.
- 10:48We got two spots left now.
- 10:51You know what? I'm going to take a swing at the newer.
- 10:55Oh, no, I know you ain't watched that one yet.
- 10:59Let's do a, no, you know what? What about the Bernie Mac show?
- 11:04Oh, man. That's one I overlooked.
- 11:08Gosh. I didn't have Bernie Mac even. Oh, shame on me for not having Bernie on my list.
- 11:14Let's revisit that. All right. Let's revisit that. I got to get out on some
- 11:18thought. Damn, I missed that one.
- 11:22What about my wife and kids? I liked her. Yeah, I liked my wife.
- 11:26Definitely? Yeah. Okay.
- 11:29Especially the Cat Williams episodes. All right. That's nine, bro.
- 11:35Yeah, we might have to just go 15. I mean, it's our world. It's our world.
- 11:40Hanging with Mr. Cooper. I got it on my list, bro.
- 11:44Love it. I got it on my list. I kept like I was waiting on you to bring it up.
- 11:49Like, you got to bring up Hanging with Mr. Cooper, especially when you said Mark Curry.
- 11:52Like he has to bring it up. All right. So that's 10 right there. That's our hard 10.
- 11:58Then we still got rock. We need to revisit. We got the Bernie Mac show. We need to revisit.
- 12:05I'm going to just run down some ones that didn't make the list so far.
- 12:11And, and you can, uh, you know, hit me with something that I miss.
- 12:15So I still got the Jeffersons. That's number one. I still got two to seven.
- 12:23I still got a different world. But you did mention a different world when you
- 12:28mentioned Cosmo Show. Right, right, right.
- 12:30So I guess they kind of like one in the same.
- 12:33I'll give that a pass.
- 12:36Those are the ones that are still lingering out there, in my opinion.
- 12:41One, I'm leaving off for a reason, and I'll get to that later on in the show when we do our work.
- 12:46So I got parenthood. Gosh, I forgot about the parenthood.
- 12:53Michael Minetti? I don't think it was popular enough. Fair enough.
- 12:58Homeboys and Out. No, I'm just playing. That was only one year. Right.
- 13:04I fought with myself about putting the Steve Harvey show.
- 13:08Yeah, it was a good show. Yeah, it was decent. I was like, I don't know if it was a top.
- 13:13Indication wise, it was. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So I fought with myself about
- 13:18putting that on the list.
- 13:20Give me a break. is that a black show or is that just a black lead though yeah
- 13:27she was like her and her friend were like the only black characters on the show
- 13:30it was a predominantly white cast and she was kind of like the mammy you know,
- 13:36yeah no your favorite no I'm gonna hit you with your favorite go ahead good time I know,
- 13:45that's what I said it was one I left off the list for a reason oh shoot and
- 13:51i'm gonna tell y'all why when we get into our rart why i don't like good times,
- 13:57good times is a definite no for me yeah definitely
- 14:00no yeah no for me as well i mean
- 14:03i guess i mean this show was was a pretty
- 14:05well mixture but the show was about two the two
- 14:08main characters were really black different strokes
- 14:12i got different strokes on the list bro okay i
- 14:15i i can make an argument for different strokes to be on this list but who would
- 14:22I have to take off you know what I'm saying and all of these shows have predominantly
- 14:27black cast where different strokes kind of had a mixed cast.
- 14:35Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah so I don't know who excuse me I don't know who I would
- 14:42replace and put in different strokes do we even mention the Wayans Brothers?
- 14:48It's on my list. I got it. I got it on my list.
- 14:53Would they replace i mean look we got
- 14:56excuse me we got martin the cosby
- 15:00show amen sanford and son living single family matters fresh prince what's happening
- 15:10my wife and kids hanging with mr cooper who can they replace and then we still
- 15:18got rocking the bernie max show.
- 15:21I think they just might not make the list and most people will probably hear
- 15:25that list you just read and say well what about hanging with Mr.
- 15:28Cooper if you think hanging with Mr. Cooper it's a great show it's a great show
- 15:34with a great run on top of that I mean honestly I would say five years,
- 15:42that Raven was probably more popular with our community from hanging with Mr.
- 15:48Cooper Then she was for That's So Raven.
- 15:50That's it right there. Then That's So Raven. That's exactly what I was about
- 15:53to say. That's So Raven pretty much introduced her to everybody.
- 15:58Yeah, yeah. Whereas, you know, Cosby Show and Hanging with Mr.
- 16:01Cooper was a certain group of people.
- 16:05I know one that didn't make the list, but I liked it. Sister, Sister. Oh, yeah.
- 16:12I can't... We ain't going to sit here and act like we ain't watch Sister,
- 16:15Sister. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I cannot...
- 16:18Replaced them with anybody on the list, but Sister, Sister was a good show.
- 16:24We didn't mention the Hughleys. We didn't mention the Hughleys,
- 16:27but I think it had like one good season. I was really into it,
- 16:32and then like second season, I kind of was like, eh, it's just okay.
- 16:38I think the jokes got old kind of fast on the Hughleys, in my opinion.
- 16:43Let's revisit Rock. Mm-hmm.
- 16:47Sometimes when I think of rock, I think it was more of a drama than a sitcom.
- 16:54And look, no diss to rock. Rock was a great show. It was.
- 16:59And like you said, they really touched on some very serious topics most of the time.
- 17:08So in real time, in real time. Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:12So I'm going to say rock gets honorable mention. I can't put it in the top 10,
- 17:19but it definitely gets honorable mention.
- 17:22Bernie Mac. I love Bernie Mac.
- 17:26Think the jokes kind of got old after the first couple seasons on the Bernie
- 17:29Mac show also. Like, you can only just like, it's just tears.
- 17:34Yeah. So much. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. They, they, they can only be bad
- 17:39for so long before it's just like, come on, man.
- 17:42So I love Bernie Mac. It was a good show, but I'm gonna say it,
- 17:46it can't replace anything we have on our top 10. I agree.
- 17:51So you want to, you want to make an argument for anything
- 17:54else nah because i
- 17:57mean yeah i mean when we look at you know sitcoms in
- 18:00general i mean there's a lot of them we left off obviously oh for
- 18:03sure but for for us they don't even come close to yeah it seems because like
- 18:09the parkers yeah it was popular but i what what are you going to replace that
- 18:17with you know a show i really liked but there's really nothing we can take off
- 18:20the list, but I think that if,
- 18:22the little nonsense behind the scenes wouldn't have happened,
- 18:24would have had a great run, Eve. Yeah.
- 18:28She would have probably had a good eight, nine seasons in that show. People love that show.
- 18:34But yeah, you're right. It just did not last long enough, man. Oh, we.
- 18:42And see, this is why these type of shows can't even make the list.
- 18:46Do you remember Bill Bellamy's sitcom?
- 18:49Briefly. Yeah. Yeah. I thought it was funny, but it got like, what, one season? Yeah.
- 18:56So it's like this is this is why we're saying like some of these shows,
- 19:00we're not like dissing them, but they just one season. You can't make the list.
- 19:06You know what I'm saying? And they just these shows we have on this list,
- 19:11you can probably go up to any white person and they would.
- 19:17Well, I guess from a certain age group for the most part, but they would recognize
- 19:20these shows and a lot of these other shows.
- 19:25They didn't have that mainstream or crossover appeal, I guess.
- 19:30I would say a lot of the shows, too, that we mentioned, they were cultural.
- 19:35They were like, I'm using the wrong word. Why am I drawing a blank?
- 19:40It is like you can like you just said, you can ask anybody.
- 19:44Yeah, they had crossover. I know who the Fresh Prince is. Yeah.
- 19:47Oh, yeah, Martin. Yeah, I watched. Yeah.
- 19:49Yeah. You know, it's some of these other shows you and I know about.
- 19:53Their niche. They are black shows for the black community, you know,
- 19:58which isn't a bad thing. No, no, especially in the 70s.
- 20:02Oh, for sure. Julia. Yeah. Frank's Place. Right.
- 20:06Right. Right. I enjoy watching Julia. That's my grandmother's man.
- 20:11You know, a lot of those old shows weren't bad. It's just they didn't get a
- 20:16chance to blow up, you know.
- 20:18So, again, like I said, we're not dissing them. They just, they can't make this
- 20:25top 10 list. Well, we will just, well, you will.
- 20:27Well, we'll just one in a little while. Oh, definitely.
- 20:32So that's our list, y'all. That's our top 10 best black sitcoms.
- 20:38Again, we're going to read the list one more time.
- 20:40No particular order, no ranking. This is just the 10 that we think are the best black sitcoms.
- 20:47Martin, The Cosby Show, Amen.
- 20:51Samford and Son, Living Single, Family Matters, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,
- 20:58What's Happening, My Wife and Kids, Hanging with Mr. Cooper.
- 21:03Again, y'all, let's squad up in the comments. If y'all think we left something
- 21:08off, y'all disagree, highlight us in the comments.
- 21:11We can have a discussion about it. It's all good. It's all in good fun.
- 21:14That's the fun thing about making
- 21:17these lists is they are debatable and they're subjective. Thank you.
- 21:21Create dialogue and that's all we're trying to do is create some
- 21:24some some dialogue some light-hearted dialogue all
- 21:28right so with that being said now we're going to
- 21:31move into current events you got a current event you want to talk about brother
- 21:36yeah it you know i said i was going to not be irritated this week but man it's
- 21:43too hard not to that ain't gonna happen so even though So you have several.
- 21:49I want to talk about the redistricting, the map that the House just passed for the state of Indiana.
- 21:56So although you do have quite a few Republicans in the Senate saying, nah, we ain't with this.
- 22:02You and I both know that that's a crock of shit.
- 22:06They'll toe the party line and they'll probably get this redrawn.
- 22:10And for those who don't understand why this is such a big deal,
- 22:14I travel around central Indiana.
- 22:17Thankfully, I don't travel anywhere outside of central Indiana,
- 22:20but I visit a lot of different places across central Indiana for my job.
- 22:24I drive down Keystone quite often, specifically Keystone Parkway and Carmel
- 22:29from, I believe, 62nd Street to 146th.
- 22:36I will drive through five damn districts if this is redrawn.
- 22:42Five. That's crazy. Whereas before I drove through three, two,
- 22:46maybe three, depending on which direction I went on 146th to 151st Street. Right.
- 22:52So that's Indianapolis. of Sumerian County. Back home, they are pairing us with Wabash, Pulaski.
- 23:01So Wabash, Pulaski, Lake County.
- 23:04Crown Point, when we were growing up, predominantly white.
- 23:08Still is, but there are a lot more diverse. Yes, yes. It's getting more diverse,
- 23:12but not enough to affect the vote in that way. Exactly.
- 23:16The people of Crown Point should be pissed. I don't have nothing in common with
- 23:20the people of Pulaski County, Wabash County, and I think it's Franklin County or something like that.
- 23:25But anyway, the reason why this is a big deal, normally you have voters picking who represents them.
- 23:33What we're going to have is the people who represent us picking the damn voters.
- 23:38And when you do that, you have things in Indianapolis, for example,
- 23:41when it comes to potholes, when it comes to education and infrastructure.
- 23:46Well, guess what? If somebody from a small rural county 20 miles from where
- 23:52we're sitting right now, because as we know we could drive 20 miles and be in
- 23:56the middle of nowhere in central Indiana.
- 23:59They give a damn that the people on the east side ain't had their streets cleared yet. Right.
- 24:03They small town is perfectly fine. Right. Oh, you need the infrastructure for
- 24:07that bridge on Washington and Sherman? Well, guess what?
- 24:12I need a bridge rebuilt that leads from this farm to that farm.
- 24:16Where do you think that damn money going to go to?
- 24:19You know, I'm glad you touched on this because I thought about touching on it.
- 24:24I just got a few things to say. fuck Mike Brian. Thank you. Full stop. Yeah.
- 24:33Continue.
- 24:36But it's it's not about politics. Well, I'm sorry. Let me let me rephrase that.
- 24:41It's it's political, but it's not about Republicans and Democrats at that point.
- 24:46It's about right and wrong.
- 24:47These people are redrawing these maps to determine the amount of money coming
- 24:54into their their projects.
- 24:55And I'll give you another one. Like him, hate him, agree, disagree with him.
- 25:02Andre Carson represents the people of Marion County.
- 25:06His grandmother represented the people of Marion County. She is a legend in
- 25:11this damn city, a legend in this city.
- 25:15She never left Hallville. She lived in Hallville until the day she died.
- 25:19Andre Carson still serves that district.
- 25:21Andre Carson will be pushed out. Yes. If this goes through. That's the intent.
- 25:27Exactly. Andre Carson will no longer have that voice. And I'm sorry,
- 25:32he'll have the voice amongst us, but he would lose the power to take how we
- 25:37feel to Washington, D.C.
- 25:41But the guy that graduated from a high school in the middle of nowhere with
- 25:4630 students is now responsible for the well-being of over a million people.
- 25:52A community that he has nothing in common. Nothing.
- 25:55It's the and I'm about to take a quick U-turn. It's why I believe that police
- 26:01officers should be forced to live in the city that they patrol.
- 26:05They should be forced to live amongst the people that they serve.
- 26:10You shouldn't be allowed to live in a $200,000 house 30 miles outside of a community
- 26:16and then come and try to tell people of that community how the hell they should be acting.
- 26:20You shouldn't be able to be a politician of an area that you don't have anything in common with.
- 26:28100%. Like this state had two, what, District 1, where we're from,
- 26:33and District 7, where we live. Yeah.
- 26:35Only two. Yeah. They're going to be gone. Yeah.
- 26:39Yeah. Yeah. And I don't think people understand. We're not saying this because we vote Democrat.
- 26:46We're saying like even poor Republicans are about to be left holding the bag.
- 26:52Here's everything you said is spot on.
- 26:57Here's why I just said what I said about Mike Brown.
- 27:01You clearly do not care about Indiana. You care about pleasing Trump.
- 27:10The only reason any of this is happening is because you want to please Trump
- 27:16and you won't let sleeping dogs lie. It got voted down once.
- 27:22I'm sure Trump sleep right now. Good point.
- 27:25But it got voted down once and you're coming right back to it.
- 27:31Nah, that's not good enough. Get in there and vote. To please somebody who is
- 27:37going to be out of office in a few years, if he even lasts a whole term,
- 27:42who just threatened to primary all of the people that you support.
- 27:46Bomb threats swatting
- 27:50the one guy in
- 27:53the Lafayette area I'm going
- 27:56to do it because he's threatening to pull the funding
- 27:59for my district that's a reason not to do it yep he can't do that you idiot
- 28:05that's how you get voted out real fast exactly exactly so no I am I'm with you
- 28:12100% I'm going to stay on a
- 28:16political topic. Were you done with that? Yeah, yeah, I'm done.
- 28:19I'm going to stay on that, stay in the political atmosphere for my current event.
- 28:24And I want to talk about these, what is it, like 87 now murders that the United States are committing?
- 28:3180, 82, 87, something like that. The number is in the 80s.
- 28:37To talk about that and i want to talk about because we
- 28:39took off last week because we had inclement weather so this
- 28:43story may seem old but not that
- 28:45old y'all get it i want to talk about those seven republicans who made that
- 28:50there was a six well however many six or seven republicans that made that video
- 28:55saying don't uh don't follow illegal orders oh yeah yeah yeah the operative word,
- 29:05the key word is illegal.
- 29:10Why would anyone be upset about someone saying don't follow an illegal order
- 29:19unless you're doing something illegal?
- 29:23It's the only reason you would ever be upset about it.
- 29:28So, I think of a few good men.
- 29:33Very good movie. Oh yeah.
- 29:37The whole point of the movie is you don't follow illegal orders because you
- 29:46subordinate are going to be prosecuted.
- 29:51You will not be able to say I was just following orders.
- 29:56That's not going to work. And this is why they made the video saying you don't
- 30:04have to follow an illegal order because you will be held accountable and excuse me,
- 30:11you will be held accountable.
- 30:14Trump's not going to be president forever.
- 30:18The clock is ticking.
- 30:21Did you see your boy Clown A. Smith and his rant? Oh, yeah.
- 30:26Hell, which one? And it's just like, bro, you are such a clown. Like, you're a fool.
- 30:31You are, I mean, like yelling and screaming to the top of your lungs.
- 30:37Did you? No one said disobey a legal order.
- 30:42Said disobey an illegal order. You're going to have a stroke on air because you misheard.
- 30:50Or just as our parents told us, you only hear what you want to hear.
- 30:55Or you heard what you want to hear.
- 30:57It is just like, listen, do you win?
- 31:02Somebody, the Supreme Court, not going to do anything. We know that they're feckless.
- 31:07Somebody has to stop this. I mean, the U.S. is literally committing murder.
- 31:12We have not seen one piece of evidence saying that these people were drug dealers.
- 31:21There are no drugs being recovered.
- 31:24We don't know the names of these individuals.
- 31:29Nine times out of 10, those little fishing boats probably wouldn't even make it to America.
- 31:34So you can't say that they were coming here to terrorize Americans.
- 31:38They wouldn't even make it.
- 31:39We are literally just committing murder and no one is saying or doing anything.
- 31:48Crazy times we are living in. Absolutely.
- 31:53Crazy. Anything you want to add to that, brother? No, I think we may have had another one.
- 31:59It was like a couple of days ago. I think there was another strike.
- 32:02Like maybe Thursday. Yeah. Maybe late Thursday or Friday.
- 32:05Yeah. And it's funny because just how Colonel Jessup was trying to throw those
- 32:12two soldiers under the bus on a few good men.
- 32:16What are they trying to do to Admiral Bradley? Throw him under the bus.
- 32:19Hey, man, look, we don't know nothing about a second strike.
- 32:24After he had already admitted it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:31It's just, I don't understand why anyone would take a bullet,
- 32:38Metaphorically, take a bullet. Got it. Got to say that for this guy.
- 32:42He's totally going to throw you under the bus as soon as he gets the opportunity.
- 32:48As soon as the water gets hot, he's out.
- 32:51He's out. You're you're you're you're standing there holding the bag.
- 32:56I don't think what's what's crazy to me is as how many people forget how many
- 33:01people from the previous administration back from 16 to 20.
- 33:06How many of them went to jail? Wasn't there like 30-something people that were
- 33:09either indicted or convicted or something?
- 33:11Did y'all forget? Did y'all think that that's not going to happen the next time?
- 33:16Right. Right. It is baffling, man. It is truly, truly, truly baffling.
- 33:23All right. We're going to leave it there as far as current events because we
- 33:27could talk about that all day. All day.
- 33:29We're going to move into our rant about a random topic.
- 33:36Everyone's favorite segment. So you want me to start off, brother,
- 33:40with my good times rant or you want to just, you got something you want to get up your chest first?
- 33:45No, I think everybody, I've heard your good times rant, but I don't want to
- 33:48think everybody else should hear. All right.
- 33:50So on my YouTube page, I did a video a few years ago about why good times was problematic.
- 33:58Go and check that out. I'm not going to go deep into it now as to why I don't like Good times.
- 34:06But it's one of the saddest shows, in my opinion, when it comes to representing
- 34:16black people and the black family structure.
- 34:20And there's a reason why.
- 34:23Good Times was written and created by a white Jewish man named Norman Lear.
- 34:34Let that sink in.
- 34:37When you watch Good Times, keep this in mind.
- 34:42This is how this white man thought black families behaved.
- 34:48This is his perception of black life in the ghetto.
- 34:57I don't like the show because there was never any progress on that show.
- 35:05Started off with two grown ass kids living in this little bitty apartment with mom and daddy.
- 35:10Then Michael grew up. He didn't leave. And now you got three grown ass kids
- 35:15living in this apartment. Daddy die.
- 35:19But Thelma gets married. So now you got four grown ass people living in this
- 35:24little apartment with them. Man, knock it off.
- 35:30The show is problematic in
- 35:33so many ways and then
- 35:37you always had some shady character
- 35:40bookman never wanted to fix anything the elevator never worked did the the pimp
- 35:49sweet daddy why is he coming up to they crib why are y'all friends with the
- 35:54pimp unless he was trying to get Thelma,
- 35:57he ain't had no reason to be up there. Nope.
- 36:00Unless JJ was his no favorite character, which it seemed like not character, but customer.
- 36:07JJ, you in trouble. So what you owe the pimp money?
- 36:12And I mean, if that's what happened in that off screen and they just don't want
- 36:15to say just, it just, yeah.
- 36:18Yeah. I, I, I really like if they took good times off the air and I,
- 36:22I never, ever watched another episode, I'd be A-O-K.
- 36:29You want to add to that, bro? I want you to finish. I don't want you to leave
- 36:33out my favorite part of your rant about good times. Florida.
- 36:41Nope. I ain't going to do it. I'll do it.
- 36:45So, piggybacking off what you said, Norm Van Lear, who wrote and produced damn
- 36:49near everything in the 70s. All of those shows, yeah.
- 36:53Similar to how, what's the name, Taylor Sheridan does it nowadays.
- 36:57Mm-hmm. You know, Yellowstone. Or Shonda, you know, got a lot of different shows.
- 37:02So Florida shot down every single idea anybody in that household had.
- 37:11They wrote her character to be divisive and anti-progress in every way,
- 37:18shape, or form. Unsupportive.
- 37:20Now, they filmed that show in Burbank, California. Yeah.
- 37:25It was set in Robert Taylor homes. Yep. Chicago, Illinois. Robert Taylor Holmes.
- 37:32Although we didn't live in Chicago, we knew a lot of people from those areas.
- 37:38Knew of a lot of people from those areas.
- 37:42Black woman back then was all about progress. Kids getting good grades.
- 37:47Working. Upkeep of the home. Making sure her kids are okay.
- 37:51She was almost anti-everything. With the exception, they always had food on
- 37:58us. They was always sitting down and eating. They always had that.
- 38:00They always had the food. They were always sitting down and eating, but.
- 38:04Idea seemed to be shot down. Why was her character written to be like that?
- 38:10And then you see what happened. The second that John Amos started talking about
- 38:16money and all this other stuff, they killed him off the show.
- 38:18They gave him a heart attack. Yep. Killed him off the show.
- 38:20The only positive black character, role model.
- 38:26In the only positive anyway the only positive black role model on the entire show.
- 38:36But you're right. They killed him off the show.
- 38:39And then you just, like I said, every shady alderman.
- 38:44Oh, yeah. It just like no one was on the up and up on this show.
- 38:50No one. It was really just a sad show. And another thing that made no sense,
- 38:55like you said, the elevator never worked.
- 38:57So everybody climbing up to the 20th floor to come see y'all. Right.
- 39:02Right. It was just, it just, it just, just a, just a bad show.
- 39:08Y'all. I know we, we, we think it's a classic, but really it's not. It's.
- 39:14Popular because it was all we had. And the characters. J.J. was a good character.
- 39:20And J.J. was an artist who never sold any paintings.
- 39:25And then when he did, they brought a brother on the show, a rich brother to
- 39:31screw him out of his money. Right.
- 39:33And his daddy had to get involved to tell him, hey, this boy put in a lot of
- 39:37work for this parent. Right. You gonna pay him. Right.
- 39:40You brought up the brother with the ass to be divisive. Always.
- 39:47It was always us doing everything to hinder that family from making any progress. It was always us.
- 39:56I don't know what Thelma... Look, Thelma was fine. We all know what Thelma was
- 40:00fine. Yeah, Thelma can do whatever she wants.
- 40:02But I don't know what she did for money.
- 40:05Michael, when he got old enough to go to college, I guess he was just a student. He ain't had no damn job.
- 40:13We don't know what Walona did across the hall, but she was always dress fly.
- 40:18I kind of feel like she worked for Sweet Daddy.
- 40:23I'm just saying, bro. They bring in Janet Jackson to the show.
- 40:29She was escaping an abusive mom.
- 40:32That burned her with an iron. Burned her with the iron. Yeah.
- 40:36There was nothing good about the show. The theme song is just like, what?
- 40:41The theme song basically is the opposite of good times. That's exactly. It's terrible.
- 40:47Hanging in a childlike. Good times. It is. Right.
- 40:50Right. Hanging out, waiting for soup. Right. It's a good time. Right.
- 40:56And then say, please be happy we got them. Or be lucky we got them or something. Yeah.
- 41:04Lord have mercy, Jesus. Man, that show just became more problematic than it was 25 minutes ago. Yep.
- 41:09Yep. I mean, when you sit down and think about it, man, it's really,
- 41:13like I said, it's one of those shows that's just like, this is what that white
- 41:18man thought of black people.
- 41:22And this is what he thought we should be celebrating about having nothing. Yeah.
- 41:30Almost cuss. F you, Norman Lear. How about that? I know you did, but F you.
- 41:37All right. That's my, that's my work. Y'all you got, you got a right brother. Oh yeah.
- 41:42So I want to talk about, about as random a topic as you can get national parks.
- 41:48Two things about national parks one if you guys have not seen the official national
- 41:53park tiktok page please go look it up it is disgusting it is ridiculously immature
- 42:00it is high schoolish it is,
- 42:03probably one of the most ridiculous accounts on tiktok and i know they're saying
- 42:07a lot and this is an official government tiktok page i won't say what's on it
- 42:13because they would reclassify us as It's an explicit podcast.
- 42:17Oh, wow. Yeah, it's wild. It's ridiculous.
- 42:21So a couple of days ago, it was announced that there were a couple of holidays
- 42:24being taken off of the free fee days for national parks. One is Juneteenth.
- 42:33And the other is Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.
- 42:37So I saw that and I thought to myself, of course, typical.
- 42:42You know, with this guy. Yeah. With him, it's typical.
- 42:47Then I woke up this morning and maybe I missed it, but I woke up this morning
- 42:52and I do what a lot of people do nowadays. Grab my phone.
- 42:57Before I even stepped out to bed. I think I know where you're going with this.
- 43:00I'm looking at news articles and I saw Donald Trump's birthday added to FIFA. Yep.
- 43:11So I thought to myself, my next thing was to go, well, that's unprecedented.
- 43:22No, surely FDR's birthday is free. Mm-hmm.
- 43:29Surely Gandhi's birthday, maybe, you know, we show a lot. Hell,
- 43:33surely Christopher Columbus's birthday is free. No.
- 43:37This is the first president ever, living or dead, to say, you know what?
- 43:45Enjoy the national parks. It's my birthday.
- 43:48Don't give a fuck. It's your birthday?
- 43:51Like, do you know the levels? And of course, this is rhetorical because you
- 43:54do know the levels of arrogance you have to have. There you go.
- 43:59The levels of arrogance, just in general, to put your name on a building that
- 44:07belongs to the people. Right.
- 44:09Which, by the way, he did like three weeks ago.
- 44:13There's a privately funded, one of the things that when he came in office,
- 44:18when they started stealing money, because that's what they were doing.
- 44:20When Doge was stealing money from us, he has put his name on one of those buildings.
- 44:27So it's like, you know, for example Like say Health and Human Services, it would be The Donald J.
- 44:32Trump Health and Human Services, he's done That to a building in D.C.
- 44:38Yeah, that's it. No, no, keep going, bro.
- 44:42Keep going. I can't even fathom waking up going, hey, y'all,
- 44:47put my A, the fee-free day.
- 44:51Get rid of MLK and put my name on it. Yeah. You haven't done shit for this country.
- 44:59So. You haven't done shit to better. No.
- 45:05Anything. No. And for the people out there crying and complaining,
- 45:08oh, listen to these two liberals, go to hell.
- 45:10Because he hasn't. He hasn't done anything beneficial that will last a lifetime to help people.
- 45:19Because he know people won't worship, and I'm using air quotes,
- 45:23because he know people won't worship him.
- 45:26He's trying to force. Yeah, it's forced. Yeah, he's trying to force the praise.
- 45:31He's trying to force the recognition by adding his name.
- 45:36Just to buildings, to doing this with the national parks so he can say,
- 45:41look at all this traffic they're getting on my day.
- 45:44Yeah, because everybody else, they got to pay.
- 45:48You rigged the deck, homie. What are you talking about?
- 45:52Which is what he's doing, period. He's rigging the deck with the government, period.
- 45:58Everything he does is self-serving.
- 46:02Everything. The only reason he wants all of this redistricting done is because,
- 46:09one, he knows that if the Democrats get the House and the Senate,
- 46:14he's getting impeached.
- 46:16And this time he may actually get removed from office.
- 46:21And if we're lucky, thrown in jail for the rest of his life. Right.
- 46:25But that's all of this redistricting is him trying to save his ass.
- 46:32And the Supreme Court is allowing it.
- 46:36Know if this is possible. What I do know is not possible because of the way the law is set up.
- 46:45I think there needs to be accountability for the Supreme Court.
- 46:49I think these six, not the three, but these six who have voted and supported and paved the way.
- 47:00Based on party lines. Based on party lines.
- 47:04Yeah, based on party lines. Not the law. Right. That allows him to get away
- 47:09with all of this stuff. I think they need to also be held accountable.
- 47:13I don't care what history writes about them.
- 47:16I want them to be held accountable now while they're still alive,
- 47:21while they can still feel some punishment.
- 47:25They need to be held accountable just as much as him.
- 47:29And in my opinion, if he's in cell A, they need to be in B, C, D, E, F.
- 47:38All lined up right next to his ass. That's how I feel about it.
- 47:42And I will say this, just like many presidents have done in the past,
- 47:46which a lot of people don't understand how the Supreme Court got to be non-justices
- 47:49as opposed to what it was, what, three back in the 20s and 30s.
- 47:53We add justices to the Supreme Court as we go along.
- 47:57I would add three more damn justices to that Supreme Court and I'd appoint three
- 48:01Democrats in the next session.
- 48:02So you're going to be forced to do things by law. Yep, debate on ideas.
- 48:09Because they don't have to meet the House. No. They sit at their home office.
- 48:14They type up a well, this is my opinion. Yeah.
- 48:17And then they release it to the public. Well, you know, this justice said this the damn what he said.
- 48:23What did everybody say? And it is all based on personal beliefs.
- 48:30It has nothing to do with the law nine times out of ten.
- 48:33It's just their personal belief systems that you're forcing upon the rest of us. And again...
- 48:42The way for this clown to get away with absolute murder. And I do mean murder in this case.
- 48:52That's the part we can't overlook to go back to the boats in the Caribbean and Venezuela.
- 48:58It's murder. These are someone's father, someone's brother, someone's cousin
- 49:08that They just go out on the boat and boom, you're dead.
- 49:13You're not coming home. And no one knows why.
- 49:16Like, imagine just being out fishing. And look, we're not naive.
- 49:20We understand. We know where the drugs come from. We know who grows them. We know who sells them.
- 49:25But you can't tell me that you're just, oh, that's a drug dealer. Blow it up.
- 49:31We have people in Venezuela, a family that came out and said,
- 49:35that dude's a fisherman.
- 49:37And you just killed him. Well, bro, what is the Coast Guard's job? To intercept.
- 49:44Detain put them on trial called due process to make it plain it's called due
- 49:51process which nowadays apparently those two words don't mean anything to anybody
- 49:56no no the same with all of the ICE deportations it's called due process,
- 50:04you give them a trial you find out they're here illegal then you deport them
- 50:09you don't just snatch them up off the street and deport them and you don't even
- 50:14know who the hell you deported.
- 50:16This whole thing is just like bizarro world. This whole time we're living in.
- 50:24Listen, we need to stop being blinded by the D and the R.
- 50:32In the end, this shit don't have nothing to do with the D or the R.
- 50:38Like you said earlier, this is about right and wrong. Forget the D.
- 50:43Forget the R. Focus on the legal aspect. This shit is wrong.
- 50:49Stop it. We need to stop.
- 50:53I think that a lot of people need to understand, too, because,
- 50:56you know, when people say, well, that person's a Nazi, that part.
- 50:58Yeah, I got to stop comparing this to Germany and this and that.
- 51:01OK, cool. I won't compare him to Hitler. That's fine.
- 51:04But do you people understand how Germany fell?
- 51:09Like there are stages. And for those who are wondering, if you get,
- 51:13you know, six to eight hours of your time that, you know, six to eight hours
- 51:16that you want to dedicate to something, watch the rise and fall of the Third
- 51:20Reich from the History Channel. Watch it.
- 51:23And then I guarantee you, you'll finish it and go, oh, it all started.
- 51:28This is how Germany failed.
- 51:30Little by little by little. As well as Italy.
- 51:33That's how Italy failed. You look up one day and you're like,
- 51:37what do you mean I can't do that?
- 51:38So right now, they're snatching up people who you all think are illegal aliens,
- 51:45which I can't stand that term, undocumented immigrants.
- 51:48Tomorrow they're going to be grabbing you because what people don't understand
- 51:51is that the Supreme Court two
- 51:53days ago just agreed to hear arguments on birthright citizenship. Crazy.
- 51:58For all of those listening, do a quick Google search as to who qualifies under
- 52:03birthright citizenship.
- 52:05Who determines it? Right. Trump? Watch how fast you start calling some of your
- 52:09closest relatives, telling them to be careful. The president cannot and should
- 52:15not be able to determine who's a citizen.
- 52:19We have citizenship tests and all these other things.
- 52:25But is it the 14th Amendment that says if you're born here, you are a citizen? Yeah.
- 52:33You can't reverse that. How do you reverse that? So the Supreme Court is deciding,
- 52:38oh, well, let's revisit that amendment.
- 52:41If you can revisit the 14th, you can revisit the 13th. you can revisit the second
- 52:47and damn sure can revisit the first. Right.
- 52:52Which the whole Jimmy Kimmel thing which I love how he just roasts Trump every night now.
- 52:59Every night he just roasts him. Yeah. Alright man we done.
- 53:03We probably done. We've been glad to talk about this before. Alright y'all.
- 53:09We gotta lighten this thing up a little bit. We got kinda deep in there.
- 53:15That's what taking a week off of dude if we didn't have a
- 53:17chance to get it all all of this out of our system last week uh
- 53:20but we're going to move now into
- 53:23our five on the black hand side movie
- 53:27review and the movie we chose to review this week is the education of sonny
- 53:35carlson before we get into it brother i want to ask you why did you suggest
- 53:42this movie so i know i told you i just like the movie.
- 53:45But there's another reason. So one of my favorite authors of all time is Alex Haley.
- 53:52Wrote this movie i didn't know that yes sir okay
- 53:56yeah alex haley and arnold pearl wrote this movie
- 53:58together and i think that just coming
- 54:02up in the 80s we knew a lot of cats like this and now i sound like i'm from
- 54:08the 70s because i just said cats we knew a lot of people like this we knew a
- 54:14lot of the the gangs that ran around like it was it was just that time coming
- 54:18up a lot of those movies we saw, you know, Warriors.
- 54:22It just... That's kind of what I thought of when I was watching it.
- 54:25The movie is always just intriguing. I enjoyed it.
- 54:28I thought the guy who plays Sonny Carson did an amazing job,
- 54:32which is Ronnie Clanton, is his name.
- 54:36So, and then Curtis McLaren was the teenager, which is one of my favorite scenes
- 54:42in the movie when he jumps off the back of that bus.
- 54:44I put trademarks around your eyes.
- 54:47Just, man, love it. Thank you.
- 54:50Those that are wondering, you know, it's basically a young black kid. He's gifted.
- 54:55The movie starts with him receiving an award of an essay that he wrote.
- 54:59And as it goes along, he and some friends of his rob what looked like a grocery store.
- 55:06Convenience store or something like that. Him and one of his other buddies get caught.
- 55:10Hey, wait, let me interrupt a second. Yeah, yeah. Am I jumping ahead? No. Oh, okay.
- 55:15Was his buddy going to eat them pig's feet, bro? Oh, man, that's hilarious.
- 55:20I'm like, I'm like, bro, you just going to open the jar and yuck.
- 55:25Pickle, pickle, pig. All right, all right, man. My bad. Go ahead. Go ahead.
- 55:28So, you know, rob a store. He gets, you know, him and one of his buddies get caught. He goes to jail.
- 55:34What? Three months. I think he got six months. Six months. Something like.
- 55:39Yeah. Something like that. Yeah. So he gets six months. He comes out.
- 55:42He met a guy inside named Willie. Mm-hmm. Who was the warlord of the Lord.
- 55:47Yeah. well, Willie got a message for you. Right, right.
- 55:52Give me the message. So he goes to a different neighborhood.
- 55:56It's kind of confusing at first because he's from the neighborhood. Yeah.
- 56:00But six months for him seemed like it was six years. Because he comes out and
- 56:03don't nobody know who he is.
- 56:05And he ends up getting initiated into the gang, goes through the gauntlet.
- 56:09Brutal. Brutal scene. Pipes and chains and jump him into the gang.
- 56:14And he basically becomes, you know, head.
- 56:17Of that fact that years go
- 56:20by yeah yeah years go by because now they're
- 56:23in high school they're in high school whenever they're
- 56:26feuding with the hawks yeah uh the tomahawks
- 56:30the tomahawks yeah but the movie has its little little pieces a lot of singing
- 56:36a lot of random singing gospel songs the uh the first bra they had was at an
- 56:44event where they were sitting around in the circle Singing gospel hymns.
- 56:50The parade. The parade. Why they were in the parade, only God knows.
- 56:54That part I didn't understand. Like, why are the gang dudes leading the parade? But whatever.
- 56:59Well, no. They were right behind what looked like the ROTC.
- 57:03Because all them kids. But I thought the one dude was like out in front.
- 57:07Oh, yeah. The drum major. Yeah. He was out in front. The drum major was out
- 57:10in front with the Lord's jacket on.
- 57:11So apparently nobody cared that the gang was running the neighborhood.
- 57:15Right. But then they sprinkled in, you know, the cops, obviously.
- 57:18They didn't like Sonny. one cop in particular told that one cop,
- 57:22get him out of here or I'm going to kill him. Get him out of here.
- 57:26Is it a great movie? No. Is it a movie that a lot of us that grew up around
- 57:33that time can identify with?
- 57:37Absolutely. That's what struck me.
- 57:41This movie was 1974? Yep, 1974.
- 57:47I felt like As a teenager in the 90s, everything that they were going through
- 57:53was absolutely relatable in the 90s.
- 57:57Now, it would be, what, 51 years now?
- 58:02Of course, we're not teenagers, so we can't say. But I imagine at some level
- 58:08that some of these kids out here today could still relate to this movie and
- 58:14draw some similarities.
- 58:16Maybe not all, but some similarities.
- 58:19To their plight and what they're going through. And it is the social commentary is just like, wow.
- 58:28For all of the progress that they claim we've made, it's like, have we?
- 58:35I mean, when you really peel back the layers, have we really made that much progress?
- 58:45Know if we have you know and and and i
- 58:48think i said just the fact that 20 years
- 58:51later when we were kids in the 90s we were teenagers in the 90s we totally could
- 58:56have remade that totally could have been us oh yeah out there in those lords
- 59:00jackets absolutely 100 and just like this this is exactly what instead of the
- 59:05jackets we had the hats yeah like like this is exactly what we were going through around that time.
- 59:10So it's just kind of.
- 59:16When you put back the layers, I don't think we've made as much progress as people like to think. No.
- 59:23It's been minimal, for lack of a better word.
- 59:27So going back to what I was mentioning with the current events, redistricting.
- 59:32Redistricting shows that we haven't made much progress. Because now we're losing
- 59:37representation again. Right.
- 59:39In a red state that we live in, like you and I grew up, we were considered the
- 59:44greatest Chicagoland area.
- 59:46Right. A lot of the things happening in central Indiana, southern Indiana didn't affect us.
- 59:50It just it just didn't affect us. And to go back to what you were saying about constituency. Yeah.
- 59:57What would someone who's not in tune with the community do? Right.
- 1:00:02Bring in more police. Which is what they did to us when we were coming. Right.
- 1:00:07And instead of trying to create programs to help the community,
- 1:00:11let's just send in more police.
- 1:00:13Yeah. And let's make it harder instead of trying to help.
- 1:00:17We're going to get rid of this program because we don't need these welfare social,
- 1:00:23quote unquote, programs.
- 1:00:25So we're going to cut this program. We're going to slash funding for this slash funding for that.
- 1:00:29And now you're creating a larger ghetto.
- 1:00:33Right. For lack of a better term. And instead of trying to help people ascend
- 1:00:38out, you're creating a larger ghetto and then you're going to go where these
- 1:00:43people act like savages.
- 1:00:44They act like animals because you don't know anything about us.
- 1:00:48You don't know the issues that we face.
- 1:00:51And your system, your policies are impacting us in a way that we just got to
- 1:00:59do what we got to do to survive.
- 1:01:00So what you call Savage Savage Dream Savage Whatever.
- 1:01:09Call surviving absolutely but i
- 1:01:14am gonna say i i you say
- 1:01:17the acting was man i thought the acting was terrible in
- 1:01:20this movie oh no i just didn't get a chance to say oh okay okay
- 1:01:23okay okay because man the preacher
- 1:01:27at the funeral i was so angry watching that
- 1:01:30he was so extra yeah it was oh my
- 1:01:33god he was extra who killed little
- 1:01:36man who the message the message the
- 1:01:39message was great was on point but he
- 1:01:42was so extra i'm just like bro where they do that at y'all couldn't y'all telling
- 1:01:48me y'all couldn't find somebody from the bronx like a different preacher from
- 1:01:50the bronx oh my goodness yeah it was yeah like i i was mad listening to him
- 1:01:57yeah man i would have got up and walked out of that funeral,
- 1:02:02man. He was so extra.
- 1:02:06My goodness. But little man was extra too. But of course, I've never been stabbed in the back.
- 1:02:10But when little man died... That was some horrible acting. Whoa,
- 1:02:15you talking about extra.
- 1:02:16I thought he was going to start dancing, man. I ain't even going to lie.
- 1:02:20First, I'm like, wait, he hurt. What? Right? Is he?
- 1:02:25Yeah. Then they showed a knife in his back. I'm like, okay, he is hurt.
- 1:02:29At first, I couldn't tell. When Sonny was getting beat up in the police station
- 1:02:32when a dude kicked him in the nuts and his eyes got real big oh man,
- 1:02:38bro yeah yeah the act and and you know you you got paul benjamin you got mary
- 1:02:47alice you got good actors and you barely used them they barely had any screen
- 1:02:55time and it just like Like,
- 1:02:56I thought Sonny had a few moments where it was bad.
- 1:03:01But overall, I thought he did an okay job.
- 1:03:05All. When he was getting beat up by the police is when I was just like,
- 1:03:08bro, you were so overactive. Other than that, you're right. He did okay.
- 1:03:13I thought a little bit of screen time Willie had as an adult.
- 1:03:16They ran into each other in prison. When he robbed that, well, that was bad too.
- 1:03:21Give me the money. Yeah, that was bad too.
- 1:03:25How much you got?
- 1:03:28You're like, what if I just give you half? I'm going to lose my job.
- 1:03:32Man, if you don't get that money and get the hell out of it.
- 1:03:35Right. I'm like, this ain't no negotiation. You getting robbed, fool. Give me the money.
- 1:03:40So the other half of why I like this movie.
- 1:03:45Sonny Carson was a real person. Yeah. It's totally based on a true story.
- 1:03:49Yeah. So it was loosely, yes, loosely based on his life.
- 1:03:52He was a civil rights activist and a leader. He died in 2002.
- 1:03:57So 1933 to 2002 lived a long life.
- 1:04:01Bronx. Yeah, pretty sure he was born in the Bronx, but After I realized that,
- 1:04:06I remember thinking to myself, it would have been kind of cool to see what he did after.
- 1:04:11Like at the end when this lady almost OD'd and then he walked out,
- 1:04:16which I was glad they didn't turn down to him being an addict. Right, right, right.
- 1:04:21That was when heroin was making a big push in the 70s.
- 1:04:24So the fact that he walked away from that scot-free to live his life,
- 1:04:28I thought was pretty cool.
- 1:04:30Yeah, that was wild, bro, because he was only gone for, what, three, four years?
- 1:04:34Yeah, three. And he came back. Came back. And his boy, his boy was strung out. Crazy.
- 1:04:40His girl was strung out. Just like, damn. And then like all the other homies,
- 1:04:44he was like, man, they either dead or they strung out too. Yeah.
- 1:04:48And so like, damn, in three years? Woo.
- 1:04:52Whole neighborhood was jacked. Whole neighborhood, man.
- 1:04:56Yeah, yeah, yeah. That was, that was, that was, that was crazy.
- 1:04:59So I guess it's time for us to rate this thing.
- 1:05:05It brother no i love it i love the movie based on everything i just said obviously you know it was,
- 1:05:12i wouldn't call it a blaxploitation flick no i
- 1:05:15don't think it was no no but the acting of a
- 1:05:18lot of those movies were pretty bad yes i mean it kind of felt like they just
- 1:05:23like got random people off the street and it's like you want to be in this movie
- 1:05:27i'm gonna recommend this movie but if you got something to watch instead of this,
- 1:05:35then watch that first. I'll say that.
- 1:05:41And if you can fast forward past the preacher at the funeral,
- 1:05:46then fast forward past that scene.
- 1:05:48Oh my goodness. Like if you go to church every Sunday, he made you not,
- 1:05:53he would make you want to go, I'm not going to church no more.
- 1:05:55No, literally I've never, we both grew up in church. I've never seen any Reverend,
- 1:06:02pastor, whatever Act like that I'm like, bro, what What are you doing?
- 1:06:08And if they did, it would be along the lines How my Bob Bernie Mac was making
- 1:06:11fun of And you know, that But his was like.
- 1:06:17To say who killed little man like 37 times and and
- 1:06:22then his gesturing and and in that
- 1:06:25voice yeah his voice was like who killed little man who put the knife in his
- 1:06:35back oh yeah yeah who killed little man and he got the hanky and he,
- 1:06:43gyrating and it's just like, bro, what in the F are you doing?
- 1:06:47And luckily the camera was up close because if the camera was back even further,
- 1:06:51it probably would have looked worse. Right.
- 1:06:53Because, yeah, I'm like, what is he doing? Is he dancing? Right. Right.
- 1:06:57I mean, it was oh, yeah, so extra. And then the up close camera picture of the mother.
- 1:07:03Right. When they had the camera like up under her neck. Yeah.
- 1:07:07That's a horrible camera angle. Yeah. I like it based on, as you said,
- 1:07:13it's solely, that could have been us.
- 1:07:15Right. A lot of the things they did in that movie, I mean, outside of,
- 1:07:19you know, robbing a store and you know, fortunately for you and I,
- 1:07:23you know, we were raised in homes where we didn't want for much. Right.
- 1:07:27You know, our parents worked their butts off. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:07:29we didn't have to steal, yeah.
- 1:07:32But we knew plenty of people. For sure. That was struggling. For sure.
- 1:07:36But that's one of the reasons I liked it so much. And then, of course,
- 1:07:39just hearing some of the talk from the 70s was always fun.
- 1:07:43Yeah, they were definitely spitting that slang.
- 1:07:47Crazy how we could relate to it, though. Yeah. We could totally relate to it. Just like, oh, wow.
- 1:07:54To somebody else who'd be watching this going, what are they talking about?
- 1:07:57Like, I know exactly what they're talking about. This is all made up.
- 1:08:00It's like, no, it ain't. Yeah.
- 1:08:02We could take you to, during that time, hell, we could probably take you to,
- 1:08:0620 or 30 people that live just like that.
- 1:08:08Yeah, yeah, yeah, for real. real. So.
- 1:08:13The reverend. I'm going to give this two high fives on the blackhand side. Yes, sir.
- 1:08:19All right. Yeah. All right. Cool. All right. With that, y'all,
- 1:08:22we're going to move into our closing monologue. Take it away, my brother.
- 1:08:26Appreciate it. So I didn't write anything down. I want to talk about something
- 1:08:30that we've already kind of touched on, and that's immigration.
- 1:08:35We've done this before, and I feel like, you know, it's beating a dead horse.
- 1:08:41But I want to talk about, what was it, Two weeks ago, my brother and I were
- 1:08:46at our favorite sports. Oh, we.
- 1:08:49Oh, we. And we were watching the game, you know, watching the Bears.
- 1:08:55And there were two Indian guys sitting across the bar. One big dude, one scrawny dude.
- 1:09:03We don't know what happened because, you know, we're paying attention to the game.
- 1:09:06You know, when the Bears game is on, we locked in. Correct. But we look up during
- 1:09:10the commercial break and the skinny dude is yelling at two white dudes at the bar.
- 1:09:17Something must have been said from the white dude because the Indian dude was
- 1:09:21losing his mind and actually threatening to take it outside and hold your bag.
- 1:09:26In the process of all of this going on, the younger white guy says, welcome to America.
- 1:09:36Now, I'm a lover, not a fighter. But I was, what, 30 seconds away from escalating
- 1:09:43that into a situation where the Avon Police Department was probably going to have to be caught.
- 1:09:48I think the majority of the patrons felt like it was out of control, though.
- 1:09:58So eventually, my brother told me, hey, man, chill out. Just chill out. Just chill out.
- 1:10:04And I think the fact that we were laughing with some of the people at the table
- 1:10:07behind us kind of eased the situation.
- 1:10:10But I bring all of that up to bring this up, to say this.
- 1:10:15Have any more right than anybody else to be in this damn country. Facts.
- 1:10:20This is not your country. Facts.
- 1:10:23This country belongs to whoever is here, who is ever trying to get ahead,
- 1:10:29put in the work, and make the community around them better.
- 1:10:33There are some people that live in this country right now who are on work visas,
- 1:10:38who have to have to have DHS authorization to work here.
- 1:10:43They have social security cards. that say either DHS authorization or authorized
- 1:10:49for work in the United States.
- 1:10:51And what DHS authorization means is that they have the authority to work in
- 1:10:56certain, like they have to get approved to work in certain areas around the country.
- 1:11:00But make no mistakes about it.
- 1:11:02They have done the work to be here and to work.
- 1:11:08Just because you were born here you have
- 1:11:11the you know the the the privilege of being born on
- 1:11:14the soil of this country which now is also in jeopardy
- 1:11:18you don't get to tell somebody else and everyone on that's listening to this
- 1:11:23understands what welcome to america means you know what he wanted to say because
- 1:11:27if he's black you know what he would call him and then it i probably would have
- 1:11:31got thrown out of there arrested or whatever the case may be but you have no
- 1:11:35more right to be here than the next person.
- 1:11:37If somebody comes here and they're trying to do good and they're working and
- 1:11:40putting in the work to make this country better, they are allowed to be here just as much as you are.
- 1:11:45When you protest that, the only thing that you are, you may think you're a patriot,
- 1:11:52but you're nothing more than an asshole.
- 1:12:00All right, y'all. Thanks for tuning in to another episode of For The Fam Podcast, episode 14.
