- 1:19who was reported to a Paris in a fire h Sarah Hearing, Sarah Daring.
- 1:23Her name has a familiar ring, the silent movie star. Oh yeah,
- 1:27but she retired and the funnies didn't at the pink of her career.
- 1:32Our company carries a hundred thousand dollar policy on her life. And there's a
- 1:36rumor in Toma that Sarah steering step was not due to the fire. Oh
- 1:40yeah, we got the tip from a news item in the local paper.
- 1:42In the pomen who benefits by her death? He reste. We have no
- 1:46way of learning who she appointed as executor of her estate or who's the beneficiaries
- 1:51might seem. But I claim for one hundred thousand will undoubtedly reach us before
- 1:53long. Meanwhile, I am to investigate this rumor. Yeah, I'll send
- 1:57you are a file on sarah'teering and the You know, many great men have
- 2:10attained the highest office in our land, the presidency of the United States.
- 2:15Can you guess the name of this man? During his fifty years of public
- 2:20service, he held almost every office the public could give him. He was
- 2:24born in Virginia in seventeen fifty eight, and at the age of eighteen,
- 2:29when he left college to enter the army, is to cat Habinett vosted the
- 2:34names of such distinguished Americans as John Quincy Adams and John C. Calhoun.
- 2:39When he was re elected in eighteen twenty, he carried every state in the
- 2:44Union and won every electoral vote except one, which was cast for John Quincy
- 2:49Adams. If you don't have his name by now here are two more clues
- 2:54during his presidency, the first public high school was started, and the first
- 3:00teamship crossed the Atlantic. Who was he? James Munroe, fifth President of
- 3:05the United States. His life is part of your American heritage. Expense accounts
- 3:23submitted by a special investigator, Johnny Dallars to Home Office Federal Licensurance Company,
- 3:27Hartford, Connecticut. The following is an accounting of expenditures during my investigation of
- 3:31the Sarahdeering matter. Expensive count Item one one hundred and fifty three dollars plane
- 3:39fare and incidentals from Hartford to International Airport in Inglewood, California. I rented
- 3:45a convertible and drove to Palma, a little village perched high in the Santa
- 3:49Rosa Mountain, overlooking a thousand square miles of Mohabi desert. I registered at
- 3:54the town's only hotel, then dropped around the offices of the Palma News.
- 4:03Oh, hello, can I help you? I'm looking for the editor,
- 4:08Lacy M. Lacy's I'm lazy imagination the editor the editor? You're kidding.
- 4:15I wish you salesman would think of a new approach. I'm just a little
- 4:18weary excusing the fact that I'm not a grizzled old paraster would drink sink in
- 4:23its coffin. And I've got all the print supplies I need. I'm sorry,
- 4:26happy next time you back through. I'm here to talk about a news
- 4:29item is placing? Which item? This one? Oh? What about it?
- 4:33Well? It says that there are some rather peculiar circumstances h quote surrounding
- 4:40the recent death of Poma's most famous citizen is Sarah Bearing. These circumstances were
- 4:45discovered by the Palmer News and brought to the attention of Dan Cox County Sheriff.
- 4:49As of this writing, Sheriff's Cox has chosen to ignore the evidence submitted
- 4:55by the news. Why unquote you're right that, yes, and you submitted
- 5:01the evidence to the Sheriff's car. Yes, I did what sort of evidence
- 5:04basing? No, I'm not sure as any of your business. Mister Dollars,
- 5:09Johnny Dollar, my credentials, Oh insurance investigators for Federal Life. They
- 5:15ensured Sarah Deering for one hundred thousand dollars. Who's the benefitture in mister Dollar?
- 5:20Her state? The executor hasn't contacted my company is yet. In fact,
- 5:26we don't know who he is or where to reach him on good thousands,
- 5:30you say, just waiting to be claimed. That would explain why she
- 5:32is What did you say Sarah Deering was murdered, mister dollar. I'm almost
- 5:38positive on you better explained, miss Laser. But as you know, Sarah
- 5:41Deering was burned to death in her bed at least that's for the county car
- 5:45and the certified accidental death due to fire of unknown arts. But you would
- 5:48disagree, and I'll show you why. I found this in the ruins of
- 5:56her bed. Them a medicine babel when the label was burned. What's this
- 6:00stuff take from the bottom? Let see the local pharmacist analyzed it forming it's
- 6:05what's less of a very powerful sedative. Is this the evidence you're submitted to
- 6:10the shore and he said it wasn't anything to be concerned about. The listeners,
- 6:15Dona, But stuff in this bottle can only be purchased by prescription,
- 6:17and it wasn't purchased here in Palmer. So so I think those two men
- 6:21brought it. I think they drug Sarah Deering and then rigged up some kind
- 6:25of contracionate which start of fire in her bedroom after they got out of town.
- 6:28Hey, hold on, he left me with two men? What's two
- 6:30men? The ones who come to see Sarah during every year on the same
- 6:34day. Who are they? Nobody seems to know. They usually come together
- 6:38on the noon bus and lead town on the six twenties. I took a
- 6:44photograph of them last year, trying to do a story on them. Sunday.
- 6:46You know of from the angle of mysterious admirers make yearly pilgrimage to the
- 6:50ex movie queen It is huh And these men appeared on the day of her
- 6:58death, that's im six twenty and the fire was discovered at eight Any idea
- 7:02where they come from? Holly would? I checked with the bus stop.
- 7:05We've done a very thorough job as racy. Sarah Doering has been my eye
- 7:10ever since I was old enough to dream. I read everything ever written about
- 7:14her. Was a wonderful woman, Yeah so I've heard. I understand she
- 7:18was a recluse. What woman wouldn't they after the heartbreak she's had? You
- 7:24know she died Brooke mister dollar except for the insurance policy. Did she owe
- 7:28anyone? No? No, there was just enough left in her bank account
- 7:30of pay her a few deaths and healed his wages who's killed her. He'll
- 7:33the bower her crystal maids and with her ever since she started in pictures.
- 7:38Well, thanks for your helpless I see, I'll keep in touch. I
- 7:50found Kelly Sherriff Dan Cox, seated behind a well ordered desk in his well
- 7:56ordered office. He listened carefully while I explained the purpose of my call,
- 8:00and when I finished, he wagged his massive shock of silver white hair.
- 8:03Mister Doller, I'm afraid your company has been misled by an over zealous newspaper
- 8:07woman Sarah during his death was accidental? What about the sedatives part of her
- 8:13room? Sheriff Maggie Lacy claims they were prescription drugs not purchased here in Palmer.
- 8:18Then mister Darring must have purchased the months where or a close who hadn't
- 8:22been offer estate for twenty years older brow or her maid went lots of places
- 8:26from this Dring. How about the two men who called on her to day
- 8:28have a death? Old friends, mister Dollar came seem as doing every year
- 8:33on her birthday. You know them, Sarah? Yes, you care to
- 8:35give me their name? I wouldn't care, mister Dollar. They were friends
- 8:39of a very fine lady. I know she wouldn't want them to be annoyed
- 8:41because of some Polish rumors about her death. You seem very certain that it
- 8:46was accidental, couldn't have been anything else. Daring didn't have an enemy in
- 8:50the world. I get the impression that Junior, or rather well, we
- 8:52were close friends. Mister Darling. I see, suff did you consider the
- 8:58possible suicide impossible? A woman who enjoyed living as much as she did doesn't
- 9:03take her own life. Yet she shut herself away from the world, and
- 9:07why not? Her fame had brought her most of what the world had to
- 9:11offer. She preferred solitude. Was she in good health? Sheriff? Sarah
- 9:16Daring was always indelicate health, though she'd never admit it, especially to herself.
- 9:22I see, was there an autoping? The county coroner felt the circumstances
- 9:28didn't warrant an autot sea and you agreed. Naturally, mister Dollar, I
- 9:33happened to be sheriff and county coroner. I drove to the outskirts of town
- 9:43and located Sarah Deering's rambling Spanish villain, where I found Hildebrauer, an enormous,
- 9:50fearful woman. It was my evening out fame as every surs and it's
- 9:54a dollar. I go to early movie. I'm home at eight. I
- 9:58sent smoke. It comes from her bedroom. There's final I try to reach
- 10:03your what's the flame? It's all right, you said, what's your cud?
- 10:07I'm sure? Excuse I am not myself? You understand? Who are
- 10:16the two men who visited this sing that day? Two men the ones who
- 10:20came every year on her birthday? I do not know any men, Hilda.
- 10:26I know you're upset. I cannot tell you anymore. I don't know
- 10:28anymore their names? Are they? I anymore? Please go away now,
- 10:35I'm my best play with the dollars. Wow, Sheriff carr Ill. They
- 10:41can't tell you any more than I've already told you. Cases closed. Why
- 10:45persistence stirring up ugly rumors. I've got a job to sheriff. You've done
- 10:48it now, Why not leave us some feet. I'll be going when I'm
- 10:52satisfied. That's your privilege, sir. Meanwhile, don't trespass on this property
- 11:00again. Yes, as you say, cheff, goodbye. Sheriff Cox didn't
- 11:11bother to see me out, so I had a chance to pause in Sarah
- 11:13during his living room and study some photographs which you caught my eye earlier before
- 11:18them, all enshrined in gold frame, all of the same handsome young man.
- 11:24The face was weak mouthed, without character, and vaguely familiar. I
- 11:37don't know, mis Dollar, thanks so soon, any luck? I don't
- 11:43know yet. I see, I mean, I see the photograph of those
- 11:46mysterious this is you showed me before. Of course you are. You've gotta
- 11:56lead, mister Dollar, I think so. You see this man, the
- 12:01tall one, Well, there are four photos of him in Sarah Daring's living
- 12:05room. Were they autographs? No, but they were framed in enough gold
- 12:09to indicate he must have held a very special place in her life, because
- 12:13he's a lot older in this photograph. How about his pudgy little companion here?
- 12:18Apparently he didn't write in shoement only the tall one made the hall the
- 12:22same. Weird, it's lazy. Are you absolutely positive these two men visited
- 12:28Sarah during the day she died. Oh, yes, that's thanks. I'll
- 12:31borrow this photo if you don't mind, get back tomorrow. Johnny Wade,
- 12:37Yeah, where are you going? In such a ladder? The Hollywood Public
- 12:41Library to find a name for this space. If you think the person in
- 12:54this photograph was an acting as the daughter to teach your name, undoubtedly the
- 12:58catalog in the Player's Directory or prior to nineteen thirty seven started Casting Directory Well,
- 13:05however, and there's been no approximately when he was actuting. May be
- 13:07in for a very long series. Oh. A new edition of the directory
- 13:11has published two times a year. Each contains hundreds of performing I see well,
- 13:16dust off the nineteen twenty three editions. I'll work my way forward four
- 13:28hours and what seemed to be four hundred thousand spaces later. I found my
- 13:33man in the nineteen twenty eight edition of the Standard Casting Directory. He was
- 13:37Neville Thomas, represented by an agent named Matty's Freeman. A phone called to
- 13:41the Artist Manager's Guild disclosed that Freeman has gone out of business ten years ago.
- 13:46He was not owner of Mattie's Steakhouse and Expensive eithery on last Yanaga Boulevard,
- 13:52Hollywood's restaurant role at the bar, I was about to relieve my aparts
- 13:58groat when who should approach but the pudgy little man and the photo of Maggie
- 14:03Lacey had loved me. Oh, I'm Maddie Freeman, the head we said
- 14:05you want to see me. Yeah, that's right. I didn't take your
- 14:11name, mister Dollar. Johnny Dollar insurance is best to get it. Yes,
- 14:16Can I do for you? Well? I was looking for an actor.
- 14:20You used to represent Neville Thomas, but uls were fine for now.
- 14:24I don't understand the photo. Give you a hint. Neville taken him Palma
- 14:31last year. What is it? That's not why I'm here to talk about,
- 14:35mister Freeman. Okay, so you've got a photograph. I had a
- 14:39witness who saw you and Neville Thomas and Palma a few hours before Sarah Dring
- 14:43died. I don't know what you're talking about, mister Dollan. I feel
- 14:46a few listenment. What is it you mean to say that you've never heard
- 14:50of Sarah Dring? Was my probleship be in the business when Sarah Dering was
- 14:54making motion picture history? Well? Feeling the way you do it seems to
- 14:58mean you do willing to cooperate. How explain what you were doing in Palmer
- 15:03that day Sarah Daring died? Why should I explain anything? He I just
- 15:07thought maybe you'd like to clear yourself. What suspicion of Sarah Deering's murder having
- 15:11a pipe bringing dollas Sarah Dearing died on a fire. Okay, then let's
- 15:18move on to Neville Thomas. Where can I find him? I wouldn't know.
- 15:22All right, have it your way. I'll find Neville Thomas with or
- 15:28without your help. My company can usually get police cooperation. I'll see you,
- 15:33mister BigMan one second dollar. Yeah, I just want to pleach cooperation.
- 15:39Imply all a statewide alarm for Neville Thomas wanted for questioning in connection with
- 15:45the death of Sarahdering. The sheriffet promise certified a death with accidental the matter's
- 15:48code. Any matter of murder can always be reopened. It'll be messy,
- 15:54lots of newspaper publicity. But I'm going to find Thomas Bee around. Yeah,
- 16:02never commiss in my office. Mind if I break in here for a
- 16:18moment to say a few words. Just the other day, I was having
- 16:23lunch with a group of newspaper reporters. We were talking about the government and
- 16:29what goes into its operation. When a thought struck me. It's a funny
- 16:33thing, I said. They call one branch of the government, the State
- 16:37Department, when it handles all of our foreign affairs. Can any of you
- 16:41fellows explain that? Well, one of the reporters who write political news piped
- 16:47up and said, actually, the State Department does more than handle foreign affairs.
- 16:52It also publishes all of the laws that have been passed by Congress and
- 16:56issues all the passports and visas for anyone traveling outside the United States. Well,
- 17:03just then the waitress brought us our coffee and she entered the conversation.
- 17:07Don't forget, she said, if you were ever on a quiz show,
- 17:11you can maybe win a trip to the moon by telling them that the State
- 17:14Department has the job of making sure the Great Seal of the United States doesn't
- 17:18get lost, and it acts sort of like a governmental Emily post too.
- 17:23While she was making out our checks, she added this bit of information.
- 17:27Did you ever hear of the Division of Protocol that's part of the State Department.
- 17:33Two, it's the outfits that make sure foreign diplomats who visit America get
- 17:38introduced the way they should and get seated in the right places at official dinners
- 17:42and things like that. Well, after she gave us all that information,
- 17:48we tipped her and went back to work. And now I think it's time
- 17:51we got back to our program. And now with our star John Land,
- 18:00we bring you the second act of yours, Trulie. Johnny Dollars. Mary
- 18:17Freeman led me back to his office with all the grudging grace of a kid
- 18:21surrendering a stolen apple. The man he introduced his, Neville Thomas, was
- 18:25still handsome, but branded with a bitter down at the mouth expression. You
- 18:29asked me if I you Sarah Dearing, why I was a leading man in
- 18:33five pictures, mister dollar. She was a vixen, temperamental, the most
- 18:37exasperating woman in the world. I had a great gift, cavil gift was
- 18:41stealing scenes. Yeah, when was your last say, mister Keller. Yes,
- 18:48all right, e shit mere and morning out side. I know you're
- 18:52a corperate with mister Doller. Neville, don't worry, Marry. My excagion
- 19:00stole me blind when I was on the top of the heap, and I
- 19:03drop around here once in a while to admire the house my money building.
- 19:07Let's get back to Sarah Daring. If you insist, why did you see
- 19:10her last? Not since her last picture? Oh that's not true. No,
- 19:15he saw her the day she died. I must say you're mistaken,
- 19:18mister Dolla. You are positively identified by whom by someone who's seen you in
- 19:23Palmer every year on Sarah Deering's birthday. Fantastic. Take a look at this
- 19:30photograph. Care to reconsider your answer only to this extent, mister Dollon,
- 19:38I'd admit I did visit Sarah during occasionally, as seldom as possible, and
- 19:44only after she besieged me with letters and phone calls. You see, Sarah
- 19:48was in love with me. I had been for many years, and you
- 19:52I am afraid I didn't share Matty's adoration for her. Mister Donnan. A
- 19:56pity is the nicest word to express my eating dessied. I see what do
- 20:02you know about the real cause of her death? All right? Red that
- 20:06you died in the fire, has there been some further development? You were
- 20:10seen leaving her home less than two hours before the fire was discovered. It's
- 20:15impossible I can prove I was here in Hollywood. It the apartment of a
- 20:18friend who Mattie Freeman. Well, it didn't take a mental colossus with the
- 20:29Jews that Thomas and his exasn't had rehearsed their alibi before I ever set foot
- 20:33in the steakhouse. The clincher, if I needed one, came as I
- 20:37pulled out of the parking lot. I spotted Mattie talking to someone in the
- 20:40parks today and for someone obliged by striking a match to his cigar, which
- 20:45revealed that it was Sheriff Dan cut Right. Then I decided to call it
- 20:49a day. I registered at the plaza, took an ass him, a
- 20:53hot shower and a sleeping tablet in that order. M h oh huh h.
- 21:11Hello Johnny, any can account thank you for Fnny? Located you?
- 21:17Oh, lucky you, lucky you wherever you are, Maggie, lazy Johnny,
- 21:21I've got to see you right away. For the baggy. It's two
- 21:25o'clock in the morning. I'll drive down first thing tomorrow. I'm not voting
- 21:30from Palmer, Johnny. I'm here in Hollywood, Bama. Bobby in five
- 21:33minutes. Oh oh, Maggie, Oh hell you baggy Johnny. Oh you
- 21:51look awful. Oh. I told Joe I took a sleeping heaven. Oh
- 21:56it's a blockbuster. I mus feel like sash weights. Come here. Let's
- 22:02se John over here. Okay, Well, when I make at the library.
- 22:08I decided to do a little research on Sarah Deering. But I have
- 22:12a wonderful Sarah Doering scrap up with all her new photos and clippings. I
- 22:18borrowed it. Hey, hey, these agonized eyes deceive me or the people
- 22:26in this photo. Read the caption Johnny reacting with missus Sarah Deering beside her
- 22:32Hollywood swimming pool at the four Lucky People to whom the motion picture star will
- 22:36someday leave her mother million dollars state. They are left to write miss Hilda
- 22:41Brower, or personal maid to Matty freemanan our agent, Neville Thomas, our
- 22:45current leading man, and Dan Cox, her attorney. Think of it,
- 22:51Johnny Sheriff Cox, the man who insists her death was accidental, is one
- 22:56of her airs who were surprised. I'll see you on the morning. What,
- 23:00Junny Waite, aren't you going to do something? Yeah? Yeah,
- 23:04I'm going to point you toward the y w c A, then send a
- 23:08wire to my company. Really wait quietly for answer. Oh no, Johnny,
- 23:29do get Bruce? Johnny? Oh, Hello, what time is it?
- 23:34I'm here? Thanks? Where you are? Oh no, yeah,
- 23:37I got your wire? What are you doing in Hollywood? Owning you on
- 23:41COMA last night. I'll explain later, mister Gross, Say how about Sarah
- 23:48Doings insurance? Anybody claim one hundred thousand years? Yeah? I got a
- 23:52Richard third letter yesterday. They two days ago from the Executive Reiversity. Yeah,
- 23:56who is he named? I checked out of the plaza, I expense
- 24:06a count item three twelve dollars and was halfway to Palma before I realized I'd
- 24:10forgotten to pick up Maggie Lacy. But I quieted my conscience by making a
- 24:14mental promise that she get an exclusive story on Hilda Brower's confession. At this
- 24:18point, confronted with all the information I had, I figured Hilda would be
- 24:22the easiest of the four heirs to break. I learned how wrong a guy
- 24:26can be when I pulled into the drives and Sarah Deering's villa and discovered I
- 24:30was expected member. Mister dollars, Well you do get around? Sure is
- 24:45you too? So? Fortunately your moves are fairly predictable, so you're here
- 24:51to see that. I don't talk to Hilda again. Hilda is ill.
- 24:55She can't be disturbed. Let me read you a caption on an old newspaper
- 25:00photo. The last thing with the Sarah Daring beside her Hollywood simming boar,
- 25:03the four lucky people to whom the motion pictures start will someday leave her mother
- 25:07a million dollars estate. They are that's the right, Hildebrower, Matty Freeman,
- 25:11Are you able to go on? Mister Dollar, I see what you're
- 25:12driving it. Do you think the four of us murdered Miss Daring for her
- 25:18insurance? While it's the most logical theory today, Sheriff, especially since you
- 25:22happen to be the executor of the estates, mister Dollar, Sir, during
- 25:26was not murdered, However, I will admit that she did not die as
- 25:30a result of the fire. He was dead when the fire was started.
- 25:36Started who was the firebout? Kilda? She came home found this Daring dead,
- 25:41an open bottle of set it is beside the bed. Suicide. That's
- 25:45what Hilda thought. You must have gone out of her head with grief.
- 25:48She told me later that her only thought was to protect Miss daring name from
- 25:52the shame of a suicide death. So she set the fire to the start
- 25:56of evidence is and to second vent the suicide cause and darings policy? What's
- 26:00the policy is? Not payable if the insured dies by her own hands.
- 26:03Share your tone implies that I was unaware of that site, mister Dollan,
- 26:07I'm not interested in one way or the other. My job is finished.
- 26:11I'm recording death by suicide to my company. Who ever heard the full story,
- 26:15mister Dollon as more, Sir, Daring was not a suicide. She
- 26:22just said she was. I said still the thought she was. Get to
- 26:26the point. Chair. After Matty Freeman and Neville Thomas paid miss during their
- 26:30usual birthday visit, she had another caller who he's down the hall in the
- 26:36study this way. Because of yours skepticism, mister Dollar, I had to
- 26:44request the state police to get the man you're going to meet. While the
- 26:48hunt was going on, I knew you'd be tracking down Matty Freeman and Thomas,
- 26:52but to dig into this Daring's past find things which would be misleading.
- 26:57Well, the maneuvering is over. Now this gentleman can tell you the real
- 27:03truth about Sarah during death. Mister Dollar. This is doctor James Harding.
- 27:11Oh your Dara, that's right. You've called a lot of troubble. Dollar
- 27:14broke up a first secation I've had in ten years. I'm sorry, but
- 27:17there's a matter of one hundred thousand. I've got to be back in Beverly
- 27:19Hills by noon. You're patients waiting, and then get to the point.
- 27:22All right, all right, I've got a little hide off in the desert.
- 27:25I'd rather say police found me. I was on my way there.
- 27:26The day started. During died, I had the pastoral Palmers well, I
- 27:29stopped off the season. Doctor Harding was her physicians and a very old friend.
- 27:33I was about seven when I drove up. I found her alone.
- 27:36It had a sudden attack. She was dying, dying, Sarah during its
- 27:38been dying for years of fada. I won't do under the medical details,
- 27:41the fight of to say, her courage couldn't hold off the inevitable any longer,
- 27:45as she was feeling fast and great pain. Oh you gave her the
- 27:48senator. Yeah. He died quietly, and Jim came down to my office
- 27:53to report her death. I was out on the car. I didn't want
- 27:56to wait, so I filled out a death certificate, left it with a
- 27:59noo, Damn's death, and rob out of my desert place. Meanwhile,
- 28:02Hilda returned home from the movies found as doing dead and the bottle of sedatives.
- 28:06GM had forgotten the rest, you know, mister Doller. Well,
- 28:11it's none of my affair or my companies. But just for the record,
- 28:17why did you report Sarah Deering died as resulted the fire. If I had
- 28:21reported the real truth, then I would have had the charge of very devoted
- 28:26servant and companion with arts. But Hilda did set the fire, Sheriff and
- 28:30arson is a crime, mister Dollar. Do you think Hilda committed a crime?
- 28:37Well, legally yes, but morally well, As I said, it's
- 28:44none of my affair. Isn't goodbye, gentlemen, it's goodbye. Mister bellers
- 29:00a gun adam number four five dollars to check out of the Palmer Hotel room.
- 29:03I never had the chance to use item five fifty one dollars and seventy
- 29:07five cents gas oil and rattle on the convertible idem number six, one hundred
- 29:12and fifty dollars playfair and incidentals back to Hudford expense account. Total three hundred
- 29:18and seventy two dollars and twenty five cents heres thirty Johnny dollars. Welcome back.
- 29:40I have to say that the sheriff in this particular episode, may be
- 29:45one of the most maybe the most arrogant, non corrupt law enforcement people that
- 29:55our hero has ever come up against. We get to the end of this
- 29:57case, which has been this long drawn out a fair requiring this investigation by
- 30:07Johnny due to the fact that the sheriff has covered things up and he's still
- 30:14getting arrogant about Johnny. You know you follow you were following leads that we're
- 30:21going nowhere, but now because I am able to set you straight, because
- 30:26I'm the one who started the whole thing, and it's a somewhat the whole
- 30:30process is somewhat remarkable. The question of whether to prosecute the servant or not
- 30:37would not typically be the sheriff's decision to make, of course, end up
- 30:44in the hands of a prosecutor. Just because you technically did commit a crime
- 30:48doesn't mean that you have to be prosecuted. If in the judgment of officials,
- 30:55they declined to prosecute. It almost feels like sheriff went to all this
- 30:59trouble as much to fill the power and authority of his own office as anything
- 31:06else. And Johnny, who gets a sleep deprived night and they still have
- 31:10to pay out the insurance money. Is just the poor guy who got taken
- 31:15along for the ride. But we do turn to listener comments and feedback,
- 31:18and we have this from Adam Stone over on Facebook. This was the first
- 31:22Johnny Dollar story I listened to, Very enjoyable. I especially like the framing
- 31:26of the narrative with item list of detective expense report. Thank you, and
- 31:32that was in regard to the Punk Tillius Firebug Matter episode eight fifty three,
- 31:38And of course, thank you so much, Adam. And it's a good
- 31:41reminder that even the shows that are perhaps best known by old time radio fans
- 31:48and aficionados, it's still it's still obscure to a lot of people. So
- 31:56we have an opportunity to introduce some great stuff to folk, and it'll of
- 32:01course be getting even better as we get into the Bob Bailey era and just
- 32:06the next couple three months. All right, Well, we'll be back tomorrow
- 32:09with the lineup and then join us back here next Friday for yours truly,
- 32:15Johnny Dowler. The Meanwhile, Sandra comments to Box thirteen at Great Detectives dot
