- 0:35are you doing today? I am doing excellent. If you guys saw anything

- 0:52I saw Kevin tagged, and I was like, oh my god. We're
- 0:55reviewing this book and interviewing him. Oh my god. And yeah, totally
- 0:59not the case. We're just gonna be reviewing this book, but overall super
- 1:03excited to talk about it. I'm gonna have to find Calvin's agent and we'll
- 1:11see if we can get him on. And Claire, I promised you if
- 1:12he gets Calvin, if you're listening to this, you're free to come on,
- 1:15and Clay will be joining us because he was clearly excited, so joining
- 1:22us. Also today, we have Ryan the head butler Slash editor in chief
- 1:26for Minock Manner. Super thrilled to have you Ryan. How are you doing
- 1:29today. I'm doing fantastic. I'm very thrilled to be on here, very
- 1:33honored. Thank you both for having beyond definitely just want to always talk about
- 1:38The Rising Storm after I finished it, like can't stop talking about don't want
- 1:42to stop talking about it. So I can't wait to do it now.
- 1:47I know I was super jealous of all the people who were getting their copies
- 1:49early, and I'm like, del ray, please please email me will I
- 1:53will take it. I will sing your praises, I promise, but seriously,
- 1:59del Ray call me if you want some early reviews the next time,
- 2:00We'll be happy to do it. So today we will be talking about The
- 2:07Rising Storm. The beautiful cover here. I don't even remember the artist's name,
- 2:12but it's the out of print copy, very very lovely cover, like
- 2:15love it to death. So, but before we do get into the discussion
- 2:20on the book, we do have a couple of things to hit on the
- 2:22podcast paperwork side of things. First thing starts. We are a part of
- 2:24the Geek Ultimate Alliance podcast network Click I said, where we have shows every
- 2:29single day of the week Saturday to Monday, we have our comic book run
- 2:31of the Network with Weird Science, DC, Weird Science, Marvel and World's
- 2:35Finest True Believers every other week on the opposite weeks for World's Finast True Believers.
- 2:39We do have our Power Rangers podcast, which clears a part of Arranger
- 2:44Alliance. Tuesdays, we have DC Alliance. Wednesdays, we have Superhero Discussions
- 2:47for all your animated needs. Thursdays you get to hear a lot from me
- 2:52with Slice of Film one week and Star Wars Alliance with Nathan and I the
- 2:54next. Last, but certainly not least, we've got Marble Alliance on Fridays.
- 3:00We do also have a Patreon where we have two tiers. One dollar
- 3:02helps keep the Kyber Crystals running around here. Oh that's a bad thing.
- 3:07Kyber Crystals charged. I copied and pasted this from my Slice of Film script,
- 3:12y'all. I'm sorry, that's bad, Katie bad copy paste. The
- 3:16five dollars tier gets y'all add free episodes, exclusive episodes, and any early
- 3:21episodes we may drop. If you'd like to support the network but can't do
- 3:23Patreon, another very good option is the Leader of You on your favorite podcast.
- 3:28The review helps put the network in the feeds of other listeners who may
- 3:30not be following us on social media. We do also have ads in this
- 3:35episode. I will drop warning before they occur, but just so y'all know
- 3:38now, we unfortunately don't get to choose who the ads are from, how
- 3:40many times you hear the ad in the podcast episode, nor how loud they
- 3:44are, so the warnings just to give y'all a heads up to prepare those
- 3:46volume levels. Thanks for listening to the ads, as they do help support
- 3:51the channel and the network as a whole. Last, but certainly not at
- 3:54least, we will be talking about spoilers for The Rising Storm by Cavin Scott.
- 3:59So if you have it read the book and I'm worried about spoilers,
- 4:01here to Q to go read it and come back. We will be doing
- 4:04a short spoiler free section just to kind of talk about our general thoughts on
- 4:08the book and kind of maybe talk about how much we want to murder Kevin
- 4:13Scott in a sense for what he does at the end of the book.
- 4:16But that will kind of once we cross that bridge, then everything from there
- 4:24will be full spoiler territory. This is a special episode of Star Wars Alliance.
- 4:28Typically you'll hear us talk about currently news and the bad Batch before we
- 4:32go into the book. However, you know, this book just came out,
- 4:35we get some recording time done, and I've got time to edit before
- 4:40release date, so you will we're recording this as on July seventh, and
- 4:45you'll hear this tomorrow, so hope I'll like it. So okay, now
- 4:51we're going to get into it. So Clay, why don't you start us
- 4:55off with your general thoughts on the Rising Storm? All right, non spoiler
- 5:00review for this section. If I could scream into my mic without breaking both
- 5:09of y'all's ear drum, that's exactly what my reaction would be for this entire
- 5:14book. For the last two books that I have listened to audio wise,
- 5:21is it two or three? I think it's oh gosh, it's three right
- 5:25now. This is the second one for the High Republic. For the High
- 5:28Republic, Yes, so far, I only have Into the Dark Test the
- 5:32Courage, and then Light of the Jedi. I haven't gotten the other book
- 5:36that came out the same time as this one yet. That's just because Payday
- 5:43is on Friday, and I definitely will get it. But so far I've
- 5:46only listened to three. This is my fourth one. The other three I
- 5:51was just able to listen to them at home. Now, I keep making
- 5:56the joke that I joke that I have a big boy job and I work
- 5:59at a warehouse. I was listening to this during that time, and my
- 6:02god, I could have gotten in trouble so many times for completely freezing up
- 6:06and just listening so hardcore to everything that was going on in this book.
- 6:14I genuinely think and Katie, we were just talking about this right before we
- 6:18started recording. Nathan, I know you're listening. You need to read this
- 6:25book. This is one hundred percent of book that is you, one hundred
- 6:29percent, So please read this. But this is quite possibly my favorite one
- 6:35outside of Light of the Jedi. I think Test the Courage was really phenomenal
- 6:42for me just because of all the characters and how they interacted. But this
- 6:48one had stakes. There was I will get a little spoilery, heartbreak and
- 6:56just some crazy stuff that I was not expecting from these characters for sure.
- 7:02So I've been talking way too long, so I will move it to Ryan.
- 7:08What do you think about this book? Non spoilers? It was kind
- 7:11of in the same boat at my job, I you know, seeking away
- 7:15to the lunchroom to read during my lunch, and I was pretty sure my
- 7:19coworkers might have heard me yelling like profusely loudly profanities and other things as the
- 7:27you know, chapters kept going and the action got crazier. So it was
- 7:30just like a fun, NonStop thrill ride that I really really broke my heart
- 7:36at the end once again, like you said, slight spoilers, and I
- 7:42just kind of liked how much it put a lot of characters through like a
- 7:44really big ringer and just push them to their limits and really kind of push
- 7:49these Jedi that were told of the Golden ear of them as far as they
- 7:54can go and kind of worried about where they're going to go next. Yeah,
- 8:01for me, I'm in the middle of writing my review for Full Circle
- 8:05Cinema and like the title, I've already got it heart wrenching page turner,
- 8:11because literally that's all it is. It It takes your heart and it goes.
- 8:16Uh. That's me like pretending to like turn a towel like and turn
- 8:20into but it like seriously great book. Like I'm not typically a horror person,
- 8:26Like if you listen to me before, I hate horror stuff, but
- 8:28this one actually manages to like cross that edge and like dangle it like right
- 8:33there on the edge of where it gets like too much horror. But then
- 8:37at the same time it balances it out with kind of the exploration of trauma
- 8:43as well as like traditional Star Wars. So I really think it worked really
- 8:46well for me. This one takes the cake over Light of the Jedi,
- 8:52though I still think Into the Dark is my favorite. But I'm like,
- 8:58probably once I get through this review, it'll probably it'll probably slip ahead because
- 9:03damn Cavin, like you just you just did it, like and especially that
- 9:09the final page leaves me going, what the fuck is this it? So
- 9:18yeah, I enjoyed all the explorations in the characters. Uh. Light of
- 9:22the Jedi I think suffers a lot from having to start off an era,
- 9:28whereas this one kind of gets to enjoy being not having to lead into the
- 9:33era and not having to have that material that Light of the Jedi had to
- 9:35have. So really good job by Kevin, uh, like phenomenal work.
- 9:41So with that, let's kind of talk. I don't know, y'all want
- 9:46to go plot or characters first. I will leave it to Ryan. Ryan,
- 9:52what do you want to talk about first? I guess maybe plat uh,
- 9:58just so we can kind of build up to how those characters reacted to
- 10:01those moments. Maybe. Yeah, So let's do it. So this book
- 10:05takes place, I'm gonna take my cover off so I don't ruin it,
- 10:09because that's what I always do. This book takes place around the Republic Fair.
- 10:13It's about a year after the Light of the jedis with the Great Hyperspace
- 10:18disaster that was originally caused by the Niail and before we get into more of
- 10:24it, if you haven't read Light of the Jedi, then I'm sorry,
- 10:28but we're gonna be talking about spoolish but you're just out of luck, so
- 10:31you should have read it first. But we're here now. So it takes
- 10:35place about a year afterwards, and that timeline is kind of provided by l's
- 10:39Arman in a couple of chapters where he talks about how he hasn't seen Abar
- 10:43Christen over a year except by Hollow, So that's kind of where we're at.
- 10:48But there's a Republic Fair that is taking place on the planet Vallo,
- 10:52which is championed by Lena so as one of her great works to kind of
- 10:56celebrate the Republic as a whole, and it kind of mimics the Worldfare or
- 11:01the World Expo that we have here in our real world. So yeah,
- 11:07it kind of goes into the first part. This one isn't segregated into parts
- 11:13like the Light of the Jedi was, which I think helped the Light of
- 11:18the Jedi a lot with its plot building mechanism to kind of segregate it off
- 11:20and go, Okay, here's your intro, here's more plot building, and
- 11:24then here's your end. So this one just kind of goes and says,
- 11:28here you go. So because it didn't have parts, oh, I was
- 11:33just gonna say without the parts, it felt like I couldn't breathe. There
- 11:37was there was no like because with me listening to the audio, I would
- 11:43you know, listen to Usually the way I would listen to Light of the
- 11:46Jedi was Okay, I'm going to spend one day listening to part one,
- 11:50then spread out Part two over a couple of days, you know, kind
- 11:54of plan it out. This one just kept going and I was just like,
- 11:56oh my God, like, give me a break, what's going on.
- 12:00But I will say that is probably one downside to this, to the
- 12:05audiobook, at least, I don't know how it felt reading it physically.
- 12:09What did you think, Brian about it not being split into parts, because
- 12:11this is afty book. It's four hundred ten pages or four hundred eight excuse
- 12:16me, and seventy six chapters, so it's tapty. Yeah, the the
- 12:22part splitting, I guess I didn't notice it too much, maybe because it
- 12:24was such a just kind of like we said earlier, this just gets going
- 12:30and doesn't stop and doesn't let up because you have that build up to through
- 12:35the fair and then what happens at the fair and kind of the response to
- 12:39that. In a way, it felt like it was part seeing just because
- 12:43also the way I read it was I pretty much got up to the fair
- 12:46like first first read and then stop there and then power through that not never
- 12:52ending action sequence and then kind of yeah either and propelled them to the end.
- 13:00That's a very good point that even though it doesn't have like those physical
- 13:03demarcations in the book is like part one, Part two, Part three,
- 13:07it still is pretty much set up the same way where you have the lead
- 13:09up to the fair, Like you said, what happens at the fair and
- 13:13in the end? Uh oh so this, yeah, I yeah, I
- 13:18the parts didn't necessarily bug me. That was just a comment I had on
- 13:24some differences the chapters. They're not necessarily named, but they do provide you
- 13:28the locations, which I appreciate, especially with having so many characters. One
- 13:33of the comments that I've had on current canon books is that they don't necessarily
- 13:37help you in the transition from character to character, whereas this like knowing,
- 13:41Okay, I'm at the cycle or shipyards, or I'm on Vaalow or I'm
- 13:46on I can't remember the night Hill planet. But it helped kind of distinguish
- 13:50Okay, I'm going to a different character. Now, does that make sense?
- 13:56Yeah? That was awesome to have not totally game of thround stuff a
- 14:00little closer. Yeah. So the first part we've got the introduction and kind
- 14:07of the lead up to the fair, and this we go back into kind
- 14:13of all the different characters. So we've got India Stokes with Bell's that fr
- 14:16who was loading great Storms Padawan. Then we've got Cell and Geos and oh
- 14:24gosh, I can't remember the other master's name, but they're with Lena Soo
- 14:28on bringing them to Valo, India. Stokes and Belle are on the Innovator,
- 14:33which is a science ship that Coursont's bringing out or the Republic's bringing out
- 14:41to kind of lead the way into the frontier, helping with that exploration end
- 14:45of the Outer Rim. And then you've got lsar Man, who I could
- 14:50say he's the star of this book. I'd say I feel like he gets
- 14:54like the most lead time. He definitely feels like the star in the first
- 14:58part. I I almost have to disagree. I will say the one cool
- 15:07thing about the High Republic books is I feel like each character gets just enough
- 15:13time to really get to know those characters, especially for the books that they
- 15:18are in. Because for me, I don't know if it's just that I've
- 15:20gotten way to attach to him, but like Belle, I feel like is
- 15:26like, oh, man, he's such a great character, and he kind
- 15:28of is a star of a book. But I wouldn't say he's the main
- 15:31star. I would also say that Geos might be a, you know,
- 15:41kind of a main focal point of this story as well, because there's a
- 15:46huge plot point that we will eventually get to that kind of puts him at
- 15:50the centerfold of the Jedi Counsel anyway, So like, I don't know,
- 15:56but I will say Man is quite positssibly like it is a tie for second
- 16:03with him and Geos as my as my favorites. So oh, I'd have
- 16:10to disagree. He really pissed me off. I mean, I could see
- 16:17why there's there is definitely a reason why for sure, but I don't know
- 16:23if he's because I will give a shout out to Travis at Geek first they
- 16:32reviewed this, they said that he is very much could possibly be a wild
- 16:38card in the Council and as a Jedi. So that's what kind of gets
- 16:44me really excited for him as a character, you know, because of the
- 16:48incident we'll call it an incident, even though it very well was on purpose,
- 16:56the decision that he made near the end of this book, and that
- 17:00intrigues me and I'm like, oh, that's so cool, you know,
- 17:04So that is I think that's one of the main reasons why. It's just
- 17:07like, oh, Man, you know, I don't know what's going to
- 17:11happen to that character, and I feel like that kind of elevates him to
- 17:17being I don't know, I guess, like you said, him having those
- 17:22moments definitely puts him at a Hey, I am the centerfold of the Jedi
- 17:29in this particular story. Yeah, and especially with the vision he has at
- 17:33the end of the Light of the Jedi and what leads us in in this
- 17:37one, he's on ash Love, which is a moon of Tython Taiwan Tython
- 17:42Tython, which is the home of the Jedi according to a lot of legends
- 17:48books, and looks like it's leading into that in the Cannon world. So
- 17:55he kind of takes a dive off of the deep in there and gets kind
- 17:59of more further delve into the vision that he had and kind of says,
- 18:03Okay, you need to go to Vallo, which he was assigned to follow
- 18:06anyways, going to be the master there as a as a as the lead
- 18:12of leader of the outpost. So Frian, you smiled at that. I
- 18:17want to know your thoughts, So tell me what you're thinking. Uh,
- 18:22you know, I think with his his vision, it's just like all force
- 18:27visions where you just kind of unfortunately believe you're going to solve the problem that's
- 18:33presented to you. And going to Vaalo or he's very like confident as things
- 18:37go well, and it was just it was kind of I was like,
- 18:41does this guy next like have never had a force vision before, did not
- 18:45know what they do. It's you know, reading as someone who knows all
- 18:48about them now for ourselves, but yeah, his his trajectory. I think,
- 18:55like we were talking earlier, just being that kind of wild card and
- 18:57having these visions kind of looking forward to it. It's almost like a Qui
- 19:03gon Gin level of outside the and yeah, it's kind of like a combo
- 19:11platter and I'm like, I want to eat that platter up right now and
- 19:15see what. Yeah, it tastes like, because it's been pretty crazy so
- 19:18far. Yeah, most definitely, So jumping to Indira and bell we kind
- 19:26of get them protecting the Innovator and at the same time kind of exploring the
- 19:33trauma that Belle's faced with losing his master, and we kind of get our
- 19:37perspective here. That definitely differs from the Phantom Menace uh approach, where like
- 19:45obi Wan loses Qui gon and it's kind of just like, Okay, you
- 19:47move on. Great. Granted obi Wan is older than Belle, but still
- 19:51at this case, India is like, you know, it's okay to be
- 19:52attached, but you have to recognize, okay, sometimes you have to move
- 19:56on from those attachments and it's okay to let him go as long as you
- 20:00do the best you can to protect everyone around you. And so that's definitely
- 20:04something quite different from what we've seen covered in I would say, like your
- 20:10current era of the Skywalker saga for Jedi. So what did y'all think about
- 20:15that? Claire starry us off. Well, that whole conversation, you know,
- 20:22Belle, he you know, he got really emotional in those times,
- 20:29and not just once with her, it was also with Geos when they were
- 20:33having the conversation, like during the carnival, he kept on getting choked up
- 20:40because for the fact that I think more so just looking into the Bell character,
- 20:47it's not for the it's not like he saw his master fall so he
- 20:52knows for sure, hey, he is in the Force. It's for the
- 20:55fact that he just disappeared and we're just assuming dead. And that is what
- 21:02he is struggling with throughout the entire book is you know, people are telling
- 21:07him, hey, he's a part of the Force, he is always with
- 21:11you, and Bell knows that not to be true. Because one of the
- 21:17one of the biggest things is him cutting himself off from the Force in this
- 21:22particular story, or he's he's attempting to or he's wanting to pursue that he
- 21:27kind of gets called out for it in the middle of a chapter. I
- 21:37I really enjoyed this part, and I think this is why Bell is my
- 21:41favorite character, because there are traumas and you can't say, oh, it's
- 21:48Star Wars, so it's happy all the time. You know, lightsaber battles
- 21:52and you know freaking star fleets and all of this stuff. These people and
- 21:56individuals, these characters have emotions. And one thing that we always know because
- 22:04it keeps getting like beaten to us throughout. I feel like this the Skywalker
- 22:10saga, and just like the Jedi code altogether, is you know, the
- 22:15cliche that Jedi are supposed to have no emotion, and even Geos I can't
- 22:22remember who talked to him about it, but I thought they were I thought,
- 22:26you're not supposed to have any attachments or you're not supposed to have passion.
- 22:30That's what the phrase was. And he yeah, the reporter and he
- 22:36says, oh, well, that's that's true. It's it's that these passions
- 22:40don't control me, but you can't tell me that I don't have, you
- 22:45know, likes for different things amongst the universe. And again that is just
- 22:52making these characters that we've always seen as like stone Cold in other reiterations,
- 22:59more relatable. So seeing Belle so vulnerable in these moments is just one more
- 23:07focal point to be like, I relate to that. So I really appreciate
- 23:12Bell in that moment of suffering unfortunately, but I I really enjoy the realness
- 23:22of his character and his conquering of that later on. Yeah, that was
- 23:30kind of probably also my favorite journey of the book is just seeing that how
- 23:34he deals with that, And I think about how Jedi the prequeler might have
- 23:40been so easy to have been like, yes, everyone's right, he's with
- 23:42the Force now and kind of given up where in this timeframe there, you
- 23:48know, pushed to be kind of connected and emotional in a sense that that's
- 23:52why he never gave up, and he always kind of hoped that maybe he's
- 23:56out there, and that would also make dealing with the trauma of not having
- 24:00him there very difficult. And then on top of that, he has to
- 24:04go through the trials of Valo essentially just kind of like, how do you
- 24:11deal with that while you also have to deal with all this other trauma going
- 24:15on around you, and how to put that aside to be who you need
- 24:18to be, Like you're talking about that compassion, putting the compassion aside and
- 24:22not be ruled by it and being what you need to be. It was
- 24:26just a very cool way of showing this unique era for the Jedi. Yeah,
- 24:32most Centaly, y'all both said exactly what I was thinking about with Bala's
- 24:37trauma there. I think it's a really cool approach to take and definitely something
- 24:40that isn't necessarily unique in the past Cannon books, but was handled really well
- 24:45here by Cavin. So I appreciated that the last Jedi that we kind of
- 24:52get and clear you kind of touch on this already, but it was with
- 24:56Stell and Gios and kind of the reporter when they're on Linas's ship and we
- 25:02kind of get a more unique perspective into Linas. So as a character,
- 25:08I personally I thought she could have like I needed to know more about her
- 25:12in the light of the Jedi, and I appreciated kind of getting an inside
- 25:18look into who she is as a person and knowing like she's got family here
- 25:22not necessarily portrayed in this part of the book. I'm getting ahead of myself,
- 25:26But so, what did y'all think kind of about a the reporter,
- 25:30like especially kind of like stelling Gios's passion talk to the reporter. There go
- 25:41ahead? Oh well, I was, I was. I went first last
- 25:44time, grind you go ahead? Sure? I kind of yeah, having
- 25:48the reporter was I wasn't expecting that viewpoint. That's definitely one thing that some
- 25:53of these books have been maybe needed more of, was that everyday person looking
- 25:59at this era and the Jedi and having her there in that like thick of
- 26:03everything was kind of neat. I think her name is Rhea, but yet
- 26:10her being able to like see what Lena is actually really like thinking and feeling
- 26:15in between the senator who has some issues with the republic fair even happening,
- 26:21and her later deals with people who come into help at the end. It
- 26:27was just kind of a just just a very fun way to push our idea
- 26:33of the Jedi and Lena, giving us a little better view of them and
- 26:40allowing Stellen to kind of be the poster boy he's supposed to be and just
- 26:45being like, Okay, this is what obi Wan could have been like potentially
- 26:47in a sense, I always felt like he was like an obi Wan,
- 26:51very strict following the rules. And then Lena just okay, so she does
- 26:56have some emotions that are she does react like a normal human being. She's
- 27:02she's definitely a great Chancellor, it seems like, but she is another being
- 27:07of the galaxy, and if things go wrong, she has issues with them,
- 27:11and so yeah, humanized it or giving her more like context for her
- 27:15reactions to stuff and why she's doing the great works definitely helped build up her
- 27:19character and I want more. Definitely. I thought selling Geo is kind of
- 27:27becoming that poster boy was an interesting decision, Like, yes, he's eye
- 27:33catching, as we clearly get from like the artwork that we get and then
- 27:37the perspective we get from the news reporter about oh yeah, I see what
- 27:41he's the poster boy. But in the same sense, like he's taking it
- 27:45seems like he's struggling with his duty as being a council member now and trying
- 27:51to find that balance for what he had as a regular Jedi master, which
- 27:56i'd agree disagree, I would agree with that absolutely all right, So kind
- 28:06of moving on ahead. Really, the last main character that's kind of focused
- 28:11on, because we do get one specific chapter that I want to talk about,
- 28:14but it's kind of more of a character focused one with Lodin, So
- 28:18kind of the last main character we get kind of in this introductory section of
- 28:22chapters is ty Yorick, who is a monster hunter and we find her on
- 28:27the planet Laura, which I believe her her getting to this planet is going
- 28:33to be explored in an upcoming graphic novel by Cavin as well, which is
- 28:38the uh It's oh gosh, yeah, Monster is Simple Pink, thank you,
- 28:47So that's coming August eleventh, to kind of get more into her backstory.
- 28:49But she is featured quite heavily here, and she is on the typical
- 28:55cover for The Rising Storm, so that's she's She's definitely kind of main character
- 29:00of focus here and I look forward to seeing her explored across future publishing initiative
- 29:07pieces, whatever you want to call High Republic. That's something that's something that
- 29:14I wanted to ask both of you. So we are getting a very streamline
- 29:19and people like to make this comparison MCU type of story with the High Republic.
- 29:29But one thing that I feel like is missing and Katie, you and
- 29:34Nathan and Greg and Travis not so much as Travis, but have gotten me
- 29:41so much into the Legends books. And I've noticed how Okay, there's a
- 29:48big whole stories of just like Star Wars, but then you have things like
- 29:55a Dooku story, you have an Obi Wan story, you have a Qui
- 29:57gon, you have these characters stories. Do you think that we will eventually
- 30:03get to the point where we are diving more into characters than we are like
- 30:08this overall narrative for the High Republic Do you think we'll get to that point?
- 30:12Or No, Ryan, I'm gonna let you touch on them that first,
- 30:15because I actually hit on this a couple of times on Stars Lance,
- 30:21but I will I won't answer this still, but go for it, Ryan,
- 30:23Okay, I hope So in a way, reading like the comics,
- 30:30I do feel like those are a little bit more character focus at the moment,
- 30:33with like Keith Trenerson, Skier and the High Republic coming from Marvel and
- 30:37Lula Tally, Sola and Zine from the Higher Public adventures like it seems to
- 30:45be that the books unfortunately aren't gonna be that like character focus, I feel
- 30:49like, and they're gonna push that more towards those kind of longer elongated stories
- 30:55like the Monster tumpa peak for Ty York, kind of giving her a moment
- 31:00if Lorna d has a when the Nile Tempest the audio. So I feel
- 31:06like maybe we will be getting more of those. I just don't know if
- 31:11the main thrust, the main focus is going to be those, and maybe
- 31:15after the phases are over, they'll do like we'll go back and we'll kind
- 31:19of fill in some links for some people. Yeah, yeah, writer,
- 31:25sorry, no, you're good my writer Chris. He also writes that minic
- 31:30manner, he and I kind of had a discussion about this recently too.
- 31:33We were just he was kind of like, I want more of that because
- 31:36I like these characters so much. So yeah, I kind of hope that
- 31:38they do go that way. One of the things that I have kind of
- 31:42talked about is, yes, I do want more character focused books, because
- 31:48while I do plan on reading the comics, like I'm not a buy them
- 31:52every month type of person. I like them all like bound up, So
- 31:56I've got the trades on pre order, I promise, But for me,
- 32:00like I really appreciated the character driven books from the Legends, Like even if
- 32:06you're splitting perspectives, like you're still getting that overarching tale of Luke Skywalker from
- 32:12Return of the Jedi to where he fights Ableath, like you're getting one full
- 32:16story there, and I can definitely like I've always appreciated that, Like that's
- 32:21why I'm a Legends person. But I one thing I think that they're going
- 32:25to try and do is kind of take it kind of like Skywalker War,
- 32:30which Kristin Baber wrote, which is a biography set in the Star Wars universe.
- 32:36It's written by someone in the Star Wars universe, and kind of taking
- 32:38it that way. So I think after this comes to, after we get
- 32:45like maybe one or two phases pulled up, maybe even all three, we're
- 32:49gonna get different author's perspectives and they're gonna write the individual Jedi character stories,
- 32:54like maybe we'll get an A. R. Chris novel something to kind of
- 32:58give us a different perspective, because right now there's only five authors and several
- 33:02artists involved in the High Republic, and at some point, like we know
- 33:07Phase one is gonna go for at least two years, and so this could
- 33:13go out to twenty twenty six. But do you really want not to say
- 33:16that they're not phenomenal authors, y'all? But do you really want three phases
- 33:22told from the same author's perspective the whole way through. Like, one of
- 33:24the great things that I found about the New Jedi Order was that there were
- 33:28several perspectives going on, and each book kind of took on a character.
- 33:34Like you get several perspectives from Jana and Jason solo or Anakin solo, and
- 33:37then you get like the Luke and Leah Luke and Mara Leah and Han Wedge
- 33:44all that kind of stuff, and you get kind of all those and they're
- 33:46wrapped up into one big story. So I think that's fully possible. But
- 33:50I think they're gonna they might stick with the five authors through the main books
- 33:53like The Light of the Jedi and The Rising Storm, but then kind of
- 33:58intertwine some authors to tell us more character focused stories, if that makes sense.
- 34:06Yeah, But before we kind of move on anywhere, I want to
- 34:14talk about geos just like we were, And then I think we should go
- 34:16onto another ad break or our first ad brick. So I will say listening
- 34:24to this audiobook, I could not get Geos like the way I picture him
- 34:31because of the way Thompson gives his accent. It is totally Russell Crowe,
- 34:37like like Man of Steel, Russell Crowe like from Krypton. And I was
- 34:44just like, this sounds amazing. If Russell Crowe could be Geos in a
- 34:49live action film, let's freaking bring it on, Like that's what I would
- 34:52want at this point. But he was phenomenal throughout this entire thing, you
- 35:00know, being the poster child for uh, this entire event brought this uh
- 35:07you know, like you were saying this whole idea of him, Well,
- 35:13that was Man actually being the Qui gon uh. Geos is like what obi
- 35:19Wan is near like the end of like or like between Clone Wars and Revenge
- 35:27of the Sith. Basically he gives off that Qui Gone energy, I mean,
- 35:30the the obi Wan energy, to be completely honest, and he kind
- 35:36of has that banter with Man that really gives off that kind of relationship.
- 35:40And I really did enjoy that between those two, and you kind of got
- 35:45this not a whole bunch of background when they were Padawan's, but you kind
- 35:47of got this like oh, he used to help me a lot, and
- 35:51oh, I used to help him. We got a little bit of their
- 35:54uh background with Geos not being one hundred percent compatible was not really the word
- 36:02I was looking for, but like, uh, he wasn't really good with
- 36:06animals was one thing that we learned with this uh. And then we see
- 36:09a moment where Man, you know, he he was the one that helped
- 36:13him as a padawan, and then you kind of see why later on in
- 36:15the in the midst of all the chaos near the end of the book,
- 36:19we get to see Man use the force in that manner to show like,
- 36:23hey, this is how I was able to do that. So with Geos,
- 36:29I will just say that I really loved him as a character because he
- 36:32brought the I feel like, like the hope of the of the Jedi in
- 36:39the sense of uh. There's a moment where he is, like you said,
- 36:45crying on the live broadcast or whatever, and so everybody's like, whoa,
- 36:49this is a Jedi and he's like showing emotion to the entire galaxy.
- 36:55I feel like that was very much something Obi Wan would do if if it
- 37:00wasn't the way the Council is at that moment, you know, I will
- 37:07gush all over these characters. To be completely honest, there's so many things
- 37:12with each individual character that I'm just like, Yes, this is what I've
- 37:15wanted from these characters as far as like Jedi that I was never able to
- 37:20get in like this. Like I said before, this kind of cold hearted
- 37:27like and it's more so because of the things that are happening now in the
- 37:30High Republic and what we see will eventually evolve into the council that we get
- 37:35when you know Yoda is the head and you know we have made swindle and
- 37:38all of that. But yeah, Katie, if you want to push us
- 37:43into our ad break and then we can move on from there. Y'all,
- 37:47I appreciate your listening to ads. We all do. So we will be
- 37:52right back and we are back. Thanks for listening, y'all, appreciate it
- 37:59again always, So let me talk it. So we are going to kind
- 38:07of jump into kind of the next part. So we'ren Valo and granted,
- 38:16okay, we missed one thing I forgot about, So Marchian Rowe pulls this
- 38:21for sensitive guy. This is something we got to talk about because this is
- 38:24relevant to the end of the book. So I'm sorry y'all skipping back.
- 38:29Oh So, Marcian Rowe kind of goes to this planet. I don't even
- 38:32remember the planet, but he pulls the specific four sensitive, a member of
- 38:38a four sensitive species whose name is d dis something I don't know, y'all.
- 38:45It's dis, So we're going with d. So he pulls him into
- 38:53what feels like one of Roe's home planets, Innocence, uh, and we
- 39:00meet Roe's cousin and whose name is Kufa, and Cufa's like fawning all over
- 39:07Rome. It's like, oh, you're back, You're back. And so,
- 39:08long story short, we get to the end of this and they go
- 39:12to this cave and Dia is like overwhelmed by kind of these four sensations.
- 39:17We don't know their force sensations at the time, but kind of like feeling
- 39:21like his father's kind of overwhelming him and kind of driving that fear back into
- 39:24him, only to find out kind of that this was Roe's plan all along,
- 39:30and Roe simply brought him along as a test dummy to see if the
- 39:37leveler actually does what it's prophesied to do on his planets, which is attack
- 39:43force sensitive beings. And we'll get to this later on because this is the
- 39:46last thing we're gonna talk about, because otherwise I don't know if I'm gonna
- 39:49make it through the entire podcast, so we're gonna save that for the very
- 39:52end. But there's some context there. So what did y'all think about this
- 39:55level or being? And Ryan, I don't know how much background you have
- 40:00in legends, but to me, it kind of felt like a mix of
- 40:02the Yes, yes, the Y S L A M A I R I
- 40:08is Sammary yeah, something, which are bigs that kind of eliminate the force
- 40:15within a specific bubble and if you change, you'll say, together then you
- 40:19can cover like an acre or however, it depends on how many of the
- 40:23little guys that you have, And it kind of felt like a mix of
- 40:27him and then the use on Vongs like I can't even remember what they're called,
- 40:31the Volkra, where they like specifically can like sniff out Jedi force beings
- 40:37and like hunt them down, and they're used on when the young Jedi go
- 40:42and attack. The use on vong home planet kind of in the region,
- 40:47So it kind of felt like a mix of those. Would you agree disagree?
- 40:51Yeah? I actually hadn't thought about that. I have read those stories
- 40:54sometimes I kind of like, don't think about putting that in perspective. I
- 40:59kind of like that idea. Yeah, it's almost like a the level or
- 41:02effects in a bubble sized area. I kind of prefer that it's not like
- 41:08a negating of the force, that it is something that perverts it almost in
- 41:13a sense. Yeah, because it did set out to like ask this question
- 41:16what makes the Jedi afraid? And I feel like this is kind of a
- 41:21cooler way of like, oh, I can't feel the force. Isn't always
- 41:23a I didn't feel like it was the most frightening thing for a Jedi.
- 41:28This I think as OODI, this or whatever the name is, experiences that
- 41:32it really kind of like, yeah, the fear of his dad, like
- 41:35he's is his dad here? Is he? Is? He? Not here
- 41:37with me? Am I in this cave with this random guy like what?
- 41:40It kind of like just that like sensation where he's just so overwhelmed. It's
- 41:45definitely kind of has some roots in some of those other ideas and takes it
- 41:49to like a total new level exactly, which is where I think kind of
- 41:53the horror perspective kind of really flares its ugly head here, not to say
- 41:59that it's ugly, but like it's the same, Clay, what did you
- 42:02think of our initial Well, look into the level, especially you know,
- 42:09talking about the horror aspect, especially listening to this the music tones, the
- 42:16shaking of the voices, when, like you said, I can't remember off
- 42:22the top of my head, diz dez whatever, you really get into the
- 42:27chaotic psyche of when everything starts to break down. He is starting to feel
- 42:35heavy, he's getting headaches, he is getting very much disoriented, he's hearing
- 42:40voices, he's seeing things. So much is going on so quickly and to
- 42:49get the turn that we got because at this point we learn, like you
- 42:57said, it's Marsha and Rose family that is helping out. And she she
- 43:02was a hute like just her the way they portrayed her as far as her
- 43:07voice and how like she was just a crazy old woman to be completely honest,
- 43:14Like, at one point, I forgot what creature was protecting, uh
- 43:20that cave, but they were like absolutely terrified and they all got yeah,
- 43:27so they all got into a fight with it. And that was the first
- 43:30hint of des like maybe feeling something. So he thought, oh, well,
- 43:36it was the spider, and then you slowly start to realize, no,
- 43:40it was not the spider at all, which is absolutely terrifying. I
- 43:47was looking up the creature that you guys were talking about because I'm not very
- 43:52familiar with the Legends books. Uh they salaam, it's a lizard. It's
- 44:00a lizard sque creature that can grow up to fifty centimeters. With the way
- 44:07it's talking about how it creates this bubble with the force, it almost feels
- 44:15like that because small spoilers for the end of this book, well, I
- 44:22will just say somebody and we will get to it. A character feels like
- 44:29they saw something, and now looking at this creature and kind of picturing everything,
- 44:37it kind of felt like maybe it was something that was on four legs,
- 44:43because it doesn't really describe it. And I was very confused because the
- 44:46ending of this book happened so quick, like to the point where I was
- 44:52just like, wait a minute, rewind listen to it at least three or
- 44:55four times. So we will get to that eventually. But the way this
- 45:01whole story for Dez ends is quite possibly the most bone chilling ending for a
- 45:09character that could It's almost like he couldn't function afterwards, and it's like,
- 45:20I don't know how he would have recovered in a sense, And like,
- 45:24especially going into the end of the book, like this creature affects characters that
- 45:29we've come to love, and now all of a sudden, we go,
- 45:32okay, well, now what's going to happen? Well are they gonna be
- 45:37okay? Not just that, because Marcion Rowe questions him throughout this experience.
- 45:44He's he's walking and he's they're trying to have conversation and he's like, do
- 45:49you feel something? And des is like, well, we don't feel things.
- 45:52We feel the force in an entirely different way with vibrations. And so
- 45:58to Marcion Row He's like, okay, well this is the bottom of the
- 46:00barrel force user and this is what it does to him. Oh man,
- 46:06I cannot wait until I get to use it on a Jedi. Like That's
- 46:08probably what Marchian gro was thinking at this moment. I'm just like, why
- 46:14don't do this to our characters? But yeah, it was, like I
- 46:19said, bone chilling for sure. It's kind of cool that you got to
- 46:22listen to it. I kind of like wish I had listened to it because
- 46:27I I kind of want to hear like, yeah, like the the way
- 46:30they kind of played the music and the tones and maybe the kind of like
- 46:32any like creature sounds. Potentially that's kind of neat. I love Mark Thompson
- 46:39as a narrator. He's perfect. He always kills Star Wars. I can't
- 46:44wait to listen to him do Rogue Squadron. However, I got to the
- 46:46point where I literally because I was listening into it too, and I got
- 46:50into the valo action and I was like, Okay, this is not being
- 46:53read fast enough for me. Because I'm a speed reader. I scan things
- 46:57like so I was like, I got smooth. So I ended up like
- 47:01borrowing the kindle book and then reading through the rest of the kindle book.
- 47:06So maybe I need to go back and listen to the end of it.
- 47:08I read one point five speed. I did too, and it was still
- 47:15too slow for me. Oh my goodness, Now see for me one point
- 47:17five speed. One point five speed basically gets rid of the like the dead
- 47:23air in between words, so it does sound a little fast, but not
- 47:29too fast to where like people are sounding like chipmunks and things like that.
- 47:31So you could still listen to it. Normally it's just some words if they're
- 47:37too small, kind of like jumple together, but you can pretty much pick
- 47:40it up, you know, pretty quickly. All right. So transitioning into
- 47:46Valo, so we get the republic fair perspective, everything kind of sets up
- 47:51nicely. We find out that the chancellor has a son who she's brought with
- 47:55her to Valo, and the kind of all hell breaks loose. The Chancellor's
- 48:02son goes off with his date that we find out like they're they're going on
- 48:08a date away from the rest of the group, and then the night he'll
- 48:13attack, and then it's just this is where it got too slow for me.
- 48:20I was like, Okay, I need to figure out what happens next,
- 48:22because it's it's literally like boom bang, boom bang. So what did
- 48:27you think of this, Brian, as you aptly called it, one giant
- 48:30action sequence? Uh, definitely. I wasn't expecting it to Like when whatever
- 48:38chapter number it was, I was like, curious, there's so many more
- 48:43pages and chapters left us, Like, there's no way this is going to
- 48:45go over this entire time frame. And then I was so happy it did
- 48:49because it was the way he kind of like, we're gonna follow Bell for
- 48:52a moment, and then we're gonna cut away to Stellan and his group,
- 48:58and when we're gonna cut away someone else, and then we'll go back to
- 49:00Bell. And it just kind of really like built this like a continual excalation.
- 49:06But I mean, yeah, that's why I can't imagine trying to listen
- 49:09to it. I read too fast for so sometimes with audio books, and
- 49:14I'd have to listen probably a two speed to feel comfortable because I was just
- 49:19couldn't put it down, could not put it. Yeah, it the way
- 49:22they were switching between chapters and those perspectives, because you even get India Stokes
- 49:27in there, like in her vector, as well as kind of like other
- 49:30Jedi. But it's mainly the focuses here are stellin L's are Bell and Indira,
- 49:37i'd say, and it all kind of switches between those perspectives. But
- 49:40it almost feels like a TV show or a movie here where they're all rushing
- 49:45towards the end, but you obviously can't when they all go into different directions.
- 49:50You can't see everything happen at once. Oh, you get ties Ties
- 49:54perspective in here, too. I'm sorry I forgot you, Tie, I
- 50:00will say, like at this point, this is I'm it's been four days
- 50:07since I finished the book, so I apologize if I trip up on some
- 50:10parts. But this is when like Bell gets his confidence back correct within the
- 50:16force. Like I love those moments because, like I was telling Katie before
- 50:27we start recording, people call that. People are calling this the Empire strikes
- 50:31back of the High Republic right now, and very much like like I can
- 50:39agree with that because of the ending, but there's small moments within the book
- 50:45that kind of like get you, like gripping your the edge of your seat
- 50:49or whatever, because in particular, Belle, you know, you see him
- 50:52get all of this confidence back. He's connected into the force and he's saving
- 50:58this this married couple, and all of a sudden, the floor crashes from
- 51:04underneath them and you're like, wait what what what? No? No,
- 51:07wait he just he like and it just it was great. I loved this
- 51:15entire scene, if you want to call it one big scene, I absolutely
- 51:19loved it. I love the different perspectives and I love how Cavin was able
- 51:25to connect them all very very intricately, because there's moments like with Geus.
- 51:37He is starting to get very much beaten up. He is almost out.
- 51:43Uh. There there comes a time in this book where an eye is swollen
- 51:49shut. He is all bruised and cut and it jumps away and you're like,
- 51:55well, what's happening to him? And we jumped to man where he
- 51:59is flying on this freaking dragon, which is absolutely amazing in Star Wars,
- 52:05and then he tells ty hey, by the way, I hope you can
- 52:10control two of these things, and he just jumps off of the dragon and
- 52:15then he meets up with Geos and you're like, oh, that was so
- 52:20cool, like the way Kevin was able to, Like you said, they're
- 52:25all they're all going to a point they're all going to eventually meet, and
- 52:30it does feel like a you know, just something that everybody can kind of
- 52:37relate to and Avengers type moving while they're all fighting in different spaces or whatever,
- 52:42and then eventually there's that team up moment. Eventually there there's a point
- 52:45where they say, hey, we're all together again and everything seems to be
- 52:52okay. But unfortunately there is a casualty to this scene and I like,
- 53:00for I think it was right after the moment where where we get back to
- 53:07Bell when you randomly see him saving Chancellor's son with that small group of individuals
- 53:16that are in that ship underwater, and just seeing those small moments because you
- 53:24now see Bell at like his full confinance, because they're like, well,
- 53:30how are you gonna do this? He's like, oh, well, the
- 53:32forces got me. I'm good. Compared to where you saw him at the
- 53:37beginning. It's just great and him coming into his own power here and going
- 53:44you know what, Loan was right, I'm ready to be a Jedi knight
- 53:46and I'm ready to move on. Yes, that was so cool and I
- 53:51loved that. I was cheering. I was sitting at my desk work and
- 53:52I was like yes, and then Ember, of course can't talk out.
- 54:00You know, ya just gets my heart, my entire life, and it's
- 54:07just that like connection. I was like, if I was a Jedi,
- 54:09that's what I would want. A fire breathing dog, dragon Like it's just
- 54:15amazing. I don't think I'll ever get over the animals that are in this
- 54:22in this universe, they're absolutely insane, uh Like they're I can't remember exactly
- 54:28what it was described as. I almost saw it like some sort of like
- 54:32tiger esque animal that Man was fighting off before the foreheaded thing, yes,
- 54:38the foreheaded uh yes. But Tie eventually helps him and that's when they have
- 54:47their intimate moment and you see Tie as who she was before. And I
- 54:55think Tie is another character that I'm like, Okay, that's somebody that I
- 55:02that I want to know more about outside of this story, because even Man
- 55:07was asking those questions like ooh, like, who who was she before then?
- 55:14Because you saw like little spurts of her memories when they were connected into
- 55:19the force, And I absolutely love that. Yeah, Tai, if you've
- 55:24read Dooku or listened to Dooku Jedi Lost, what part of her backstory is
- 55:31kind of mentioned in a sense with the character like connection. It was like
- 55:35one of the Easter eggs in there. I've been like dying to like finally
- 55:37see, and so when I saw like her history and then this person's name,
- 55:42I was just like, oh, Like she's got a very like,
- 55:46very complicated pass with the Jedi. The fact that like the Jedi don't even
- 55:50like they like look through their records and they're like I don't know who this
- 55:52was, Like how does that happen? Like what could lead to something like
- 55:57that. It's kind of a very cool, like exciting story that I can't
- 56:00wait to see hopefully a little bit in that comic book that's coming up.
- 56:06Yeah, so what did y'all think? Kind of of ls are Man's dark
- 56:13side moments? Jaw dropping, Like I will just say it. You know,
- 56:20there's there's a moment where they describe the what do they call him,
- 56:27islands kind of in the sky, and yes, and he takes full advantage.
- 56:34He takes full advantage of the of what lays before him. And I
- 56:39don't know exactly what power of the force that he uses, but he basically
- 56:46makes it implode in order to like fend off the night Hill. And you
- 56:58see that moment of like, oh, you know, he he indulges in
- 57:04it for a split second. He's like no, no, no, no,
- 57:07no, that cannot happen. But just for the fact that he did
- 57:12it is something for me. And like I said, this is what makes
- 57:15him the wild card. And it's just like, Okay, is this something
- 57:21that he's going to struggle with or is he strong enough to move past it?
- 57:29And Geos actually confronts him about it because he he is man enough pun
- 57:35intended to go to Geos and say hey, this is what happened, and
- 57:42Geos tells him, well, I know that you are not that person because
- 57:49you came to me about it and we can work together to move past it,
- 57:53which again is a very very human thing to do. Like, hey,
- 58:00I'm I'm struggling with this. I need a support system. And they're
- 58:05actually supporting each other rather than just be like, oh well the Force can
- 58:09help with that. Just study the Force, you know, yeah, yeah,
- 58:16what do you think, Brian? I kind of agree with that.
- 58:20That just the way that they can have that support system. I keep going
- 58:24back to the like Anakin and obi Wan that they kind of almost are both
- 58:29like els Ivan and Anakin, and he Stellan being the obi Wan here that
- 58:35like it takes I think about the scene in an Attack of the Clones and
- 58:38Itkin goes off in the tust and Raiders and he just kind of tells his
- 58:44soon to be wife and he can't really talk about with obi Wan. It's
- 58:46like, well, what happened? What would happened if he was able to
- 58:50talk with obi Wan about it and they could like support each other and like
- 58:53he could show him to go away from that moment and This is kind of
- 58:59a test case, I guess, of that scene and a different version of
- 59:04it, and just the idea of yeah, man touching the dark side this
- 59:08early in the era story was very surprising, very like you said, Bone,
- 59:14It's just kind of like, I did not see this coming. But
- 59:17maybe he'll be able to control it, and the wild card status is going
- 59:22to be very exciting to see. Yeah, I definitely agree with him being
- 59:28a wildcard. I think one of the things to kind of look at is
- 59:30the way he interprets the force is the like it's a never ending scene.
- 59:37And I feel like the way he reached down it was literally just a deep
- 59:42plunge, whereas with the sea you kind of have to learn how to rock
- 59:44with it and everything. And I feel like if he had kind of gradually
- 59:47taken that plunge into it, it would have had more light side power to
- 59:52it. But because he just said I need to fix this, and I
- 59:53need to fix this now, it was the you're crashing into the tsunami type
- 59:59thing and just kind of plunge too deep. It'll be interesting to see how
- 1:00:05that progresses. Like y'all said, in the upcoming story, for him,
- 1:00:12it was funny to kind of see him go, oh, well, I'll
- 1:00:15start back over at pad one now if I have to, like that's a
- 1:00:17commitment right there to kind of say like, oh yeah, I'm just gonna
- 1:00:22start over now, like become a new Jedi. And that's not how that
- 1:00:25works else art, that's not how it works. Well, I got two
- 1:00:30questions for you guys. One is so he uses the Dark Side here,
- 1:00:37right, and as far as the High Republic goes, I have not.
- 1:00:45Just like you guys, I'm waiting. I think Ryan, you said you're
- 1:00:49reading the comics right now currently, right, I am waiting for the trade
- 1:00:52unfortunately, just because I feel like, hey, if I can read it
- 1:00:57all at once, that's how it's going to go for me. But so
- 1:01:01far, and you guys can correct me if I am wrong, we haven't
- 1:01:07really dealt with Sith like we've dealt with like the ominous Dark Side, right,
- 1:01:15But we haven't dealt with Sith except for mentioning like a small thing about
- 1:01:22like the the Sith War. I think, right, I think there was
- 1:01:25a small mention of it, maybe even in this book as well. For
- 1:01:31me, as a newer like fanatic of Star Wars, I feel like Katie
- 1:01:37has made me. I'm like, Okay, when is that moment going to
- 1:01:44happen? Do we do you feel like we are going to interact with a
- 1:01:47member of the Sith uh here? Or are they gonna wait until after the
- 1:01:54Disney Plus show of uh oh, shoot, I forgot the name of it,
- 1:01:59the Alkalite. The Alkalite, yeah, because that is supposed to be
- 1:02:04like the the Dwellings of, like the Dark Side and the Sith apparently,
- 1:02:08So like, how do you guys feel about that? Katie can go ahead.
- 1:02:15I think they don't want to cross over a bridge that they feel has
- 1:02:19kind of been explored too much, maybe necessarily in Legends, because one of
- 1:02:25the things Tom mentioned has mentioned in an interview we did with him was that
- 1:02:30they don't want to They want to try to beer off a different story path.
- 1:02:35So people who feel like Legends exist can still say, oh, okay,
- 1:02:37yes, nothing has contradicted my Legends story. It's just happening on a
- 1:02:42different planet right now. So I feel like that's still kind of the perspective
- 1:02:45they're choosing to take with this. I've seen some theories that say, like
- 1:02:51like they're trying to kind of reintroduce the Sith species with Marcion Rose character because
- 1:02:58we don't currently know what species he is, So I find that kind of
- 1:03:01interesting to kind of say, Okay, if we have seen mentioned of the
- 1:03:06Sith Wars, so if he was a part, if his family was a
- 1:03:09part of that, then kind of is he a refugee from that? Is
- 1:03:15that how he and his father escaped or what he and his father escaped from.
- 1:03:21Is I don't think we'll see the Sith as a whole like dark side
- 1:03:25of Force users in this, because we see with the lightsaber reusearch that Marchion
- 1:03:30Row has in this, he's very clunky. He doesn't flow with the lightsaber
- 1:03:35like a typical Force user would, So I don't think he's a Force user,
- 1:03:40especially with him controlling the leveler with the artifact, so I think it
- 1:03:45would have affected him too much to kind of do this. So I think
- 1:03:50he is the main villain and we just kind of grapple with what causes the
- 1:03:55Jedi to fear. Yeah, think the only time we might see is if
- 1:04:02I was talking with with Chris again and we were discussing maybe it's feeling.
- 1:04:08Maybe it'll be a story where we finally get to see them but they're kind
- 1:04:12of in the background and they're just like watching these events unfolded, and was
- 1:04:15like they're doing their own thing, and maybe we'll see the whole story from
- 1:04:19their perspective, maybe once or twice. I don't think. Yeah, I
- 1:04:23don't think they're going to be a main antagonists. They're not going to be
- 1:04:26a driving force against anything. But maybe you'll get to see how they're finding
- 1:04:29the profit from this chaos and what they can use to continue their own goals.
- 1:04:34Yeah, because even with the Alcolyte being reported to take place at the
- 1:04:40end of the Higher Republic, I know one thing that's kind of maybe irke
- 1:04:45authors innocent is having to depend on a TV show or a movie to kind
- 1:04:50of guide your storytelling. And so while they may the story group may come
- 1:04:56in and say, hey, can you throw an Easter egg in here for
- 1:04:58the Accolyte, I don't think the Alkalie's going to tie in as much to
- 1:05:02the Higher Republic as we think it's going to. So okay, okay,
- 1:05:06because that was something else I was wondering. But before I ask my second
- 1:05:10question, because I feel like it might go into like an entire conversation about
- 1:05:14L's Arman. Let's go ahead and take our second ad break. Of course,
- 1:05:19we do not choose the ads, so I do apologize if there's anything
- 1:05:25offensive. I've been getting a whole bunch of Starbucks recently, and lo and
- 1:05:30behold, I got a Starbucks. You one ad, you won. But
- 1:05:33let's go ahead and do that, and we will be right back and we
- 1:05:40all got thanks listening. You'll appreciate it, all right. So my second
- 1:05:45question, how did you feel about the very what l'sar Man might consider a
- 1:05:56drunken mistake, Katie, I want your opinion first, So it didn't blug
- 1:06:05me because we know Jedi have sex, like it was mentioned i think in
- 1:06:11the light of the Jedi with they're like, oh, so you're monks,
- 1:06:13you're celibate, or it was mentioned in some book and they're like, oh
- 1:06:17well sure, Like I think that was from wreath perspective and into the Dark
- 1:06:21actually, but it was like kind of no, you can still have those
- 1:06:27relations, but you just don't need to be attached. And so to me,
- 1:06:30he's like a drunken mistake. I think that's him kind of going off
- 1:06:34onto shit. I'm a master now and now I have to like act the
- 1:06:39part so for me, it didn't necessarily bug me, but it kind of
- 1:06:45was funny him going through the rest of the book going well, I had
- 1:06:47sex and now I'm caught with my pants down kind of thing. Right,
- 1:06:54how'd you feel? Yeah, I that kind of reminds me of a Master
- 1:07:00Prentice the prequel novel with like Quaign and obia Wan and yeah, there's that
- 1:07:04one kind of just like Jedi who's been chilling out on this planet. He's
- 1:07:10been just enjoying several encounters and yeah, so it was just Man though doing
- 1:07:18it, especially as this protector in this moment, was a little surprising.
- 1:07:23I don't think it bother me too much. It was just kind of like,
- 1:07:26ah, so we're gonna tackle this as well with the Jedi in this
- 1:07:28air, We're gonna we're not gonna shy away from maybe seeing how there is
- 1:07:32that more like stricter feel when Anakin's around, Like obviously they'll probably see something
- 1:07:38more. Don't expect Man's gonna stop there. I don't. As much as
- 1:07:43he wants to be a Master and I just he is that wild card.
- 1:07:45He is kind of the qua gon. I think he's gonna probably make more
- 1:07:49drunken mistakes and it's probably gonna be the funnest part of his story is just
- 1:07:54watching him teeter that line with Stellen kind of right behind and maybe hopefully agar
- 1:07:59a little bit more soon. Very nice. Yeah, I didn't know what
- 1:08:05to expect when things were starting to heat up a bit, and then all
- 1:08:12of a sudden you just see him waking up and he's like, oh crap,
- 1:08:15you know. And I could very much visualize this in some sort of
- 1:08:19movie, which, you know, I've had several conversations with people whether like
- 1:08:24these books should be either interpreted into live action or put into like animation or
- 1:08:29something for a movie or whatever. Either way, I would really enjoy both,
- 1:08:33to be completely honest. But like in visioning the scene of him like
- 1:08:39using the force to like grab his clothes and like make sure things don't fall,
- 1:08:43and he's wondering where she is and all of this other stuff is very
- 1:08:48very funny, just because we've all seen it in your you know, very
- 1:08:54average romantic comedy movie and so seeing it in the spot of like, hey,
- 1:08:59this is a Jedi just makes it to where it's like, okay,
- 1:09:03like Katie said, you know, we have heard that this is not something
- 1:09:09new. But because of the one thing that I've been saying all along is
- 1:09:15the Legends books and the more modern Jedi way is like tisk tisk, like
- 1:09:23no, no, no, you know. So it was just very kind
- 1:09:27of jarring at the moment, but after kind of letting it marinate and how
- 1:09:30it affected him, I was like, Okay, this is just your normal
- 1:09:35guy is like this is this is what happened one night, and I hope
- 1:09:40we can move past it and make it a learning experience, you know.
- 1:09:44So I I did enjoy it well for me. It's just kind of funny
- 1:09:48how some mirror reacts after that where she's just like cold giving him the cold
- 1:09:55shoulder, Like yeah, I was the happiest with how she dealt with it
- 1:10:01and how she like in front of him at the end. I was just
- 1:10:03like wow, I was hoping that she had a little bit more to like
- 1:10:08to say, a little more you know, agency in that moment and like
- 1:10:13discussing that with him, and it was just very cool. She like took
- 1:10:15ownership and she's like no more. Yeah, So are you all ready to
- 1:10:24talk about the end of the book? Yes, hopefully prepared. I think
- 1:10:32I am too. So at the end of the value crisis. We kind
- 1:10:38of have a lot of things going on. Stellan meets with the council,
- 1:10:43talks about how the Chancellor has survived, talks about the events that happened,
- 1:10:47and race to Crash Point Tower with ernestra row uh Lula and Ram who finds
- 1:10:54the Night Hill. We're actually planting drin gear seeds at the communications hour and
- 1:11:00that was what was preventing them from kind of communicating off world. So that
- 1:11:06book was interesting. I'll talk about that more on Sunday with Nathan, just
- 1:11:10kind of briefly touch on it, but in this sense. So they managed
- 1:11:15to capture one of the Night Hill that was going after real and the Jedi
- 1:11:20archivist Oblin I think it's his name. So they managed to capture him and
- 1:11:30they have kind of a conversation with him and they're like, you're gonna show
- 1:11:33us where your hideout is, and elswhere kind of goes off script and it
- 1:11:40freaked me out for a second, like him going full Ana kid sky walking
- 1:11:43there. I'm gonna force choke you until you tell me the truth. And
- 1:11:45I was like, dude, what the fuck? Like I thought you were
- 1:11:47good, Like I thought we had this conversation with Stelen and then all of
- 1:11:50a sudden, like the Nihil escapes with the weapon person which we're gonna talk
- 1:11:55about the weapon, but that's just kind of like a minor picking the story,
- 1:12:00but we'll talk about that after this because end of plot. Anyways,
- 1:12:03so he escapes with her onto a ship, and what we don't know is
- 1:12:12that it was all planned. So Elzar was like directed to do that by
- 1:12:16Stellin and I'm like, dude, are like you scare the crap out of
- 1:12:19me, Like, don't do that. And Stellin was also architecting in Dera
- 1:12:25Stokes and Belle Zedephar to get on the ship and kind of hide in the
- 1:12:30cargo hold with the night Hild to kind of track down the group. And
- 1:12:38so we land on the planet which is like Gray Hill or something, and
- 1:12:45the night Hild takes off the with the girl runs into Lorna d and it's
- 1:12:49like Lorna, He's like, did you check for a tracker? And he's
- 1:12:53like, oh, no, I didn't think that far ahead. This is
- 1:12:55kind of funny because you're like, oh, the first thing you always check
- 1:12:58is if they put a tracker on board. Because I'm amazed, like the
- 1:13:00guy was just so stupid and just like completely didn't think to check anywhere.
- 1:13:05And it's like, oh yeah, I'm just going to go back home immediately,
- 1:13:09Like no problem. Anyways, let's just think of that whole thing.
- 1:13:15Does it feel too plot holy or is it just like he's just anxious to
- 1:13:17get home? I will say no, because they kind of gave you the
- 1:13:25type of character he is prior in the book. There was there was a
- 1:13:30moment with Marcion, Rowe and Pan and all of them where he kind of
- 1:13:34sounded like the it's a trope character. I can't necessarily name a character right
- 1:13:45off hand right now, but I feel like it's a very trope character that
- 1:13:48they're always going to be very close to the leader. But also kind of
- 1:13:53like you said, dumb and stupid or whatever, just his his his mannerisms
- 1:14:00in the way that Thompson kind of gave him in this voice when asked,
- 1:14:06hey, did you check for a tracker? And he's like, no,
- 1:14:11why would I do that? You know, it's just like I just needed
- 1:14:13to get here. That's just the way it happened. And the way that
- 1:14:16she blasted his arms, like I think three out of the four arms that
- 1:14:21he had just like completely gone after this, and I'm just like, why
- 1:14:27would you do that? And I do like the moment, like after all
- 1:14:30of that, they're like, yeah, you know, he didn't check for
- 1:14:34a tracker on entry, but no one ever checks for a tracker afterward,
- 1:14:41and they put the tracker there. I think that was like the icing on
- 1:14:44the cake. I was like, that's I love that, and I really
- 1:14:47thought it solidified and Dera and Bell's relationship at that moment, Ryan, what
- 1:14:54were you going to say? I was just kind of agree with him.
- 1:14:57It was just kind of a really funny moment, and I, yeah,
- 1:15:00I don't really feel like it was too much of essential. Just I was
- 1:15:03like you, I was totally convinced by that scene for a brief moment where
- 1:15:06Lzar went off, I was just like, well, there goes that test
- 1:15:10theory. And so I guess if I was that slightly off character, i'd
- 1:15:15probably feel the same way. I mean, like I wouldn't worry about it.
- 1:15:17There's no way they thought about that before that guy went off. So
- 1:15:23well, and we all are listening, I know, I'm sorry, I'm
- 1:15:27skipping over a lot of stuff, Like we haven't covered any really of the
- 1:15:30night hill talk or anything. But we only have so much time in the
- 1:15:32day, so highly recommend you to read the book for yourself. Yeah.
- 1:15:36I'm kind of glad because I will just say this. Every part with Pan,
- 1:15:42where like they made it a point to kind of be like, hey,
- 1:15:44this is what Pan is doing right now, it kind of dragged for
- 1:15:46me. I he was kind of getting annoying, and I was just like,
- 1:15:50Okay, move on, move on, move on. I want to
- 1:15:53learn about something else that's going on, especially in the middle of like the
- 1:15:57chaos and everything. I was like, I don't care. I don't care,
- 1:15:59move on, move on. But yeah, like that, I will
- 1:16:03say if you want to know more, and I feel like we are going
- 1:16:06at a pretty good pace of like, just like the overall it leaves a
- 1:16:11lot for the listeners to still go and read it for themselves. So you're
- 1:16:15doing great, Kate. Thanks, I appreciate that, so I do.
- 1:16:18I will say the one thing I like about about the chapters we get from
- 1:16:24Pan's perspective is the very end where they just go off into another trap and
- 1:16:29we just lose another tempest runner in like a storm by the Republic in this
- 1:16:38case where like Stell they figure out they're listening in, and Stellen uses that
- 1:16:43to his advantage to kind of say, Okay, we're going to go to
- 1:16:45the Cycler shipyards or we're going to go to heats All Prime to defend the
- 1:16:49Jedi's pride. But instead they end up at the Cycler shipyards and Pan ends
- 1:16:55up there and it's like, oh shit, like I am outnumbered, and
- 1:16:59Lorna d kind of left him on the wayside. The poison thing was pretty
- 1:17:01cool too, like I liked that. I was like, oh, Lorna
- 1:17:04D, you saved him, and then turns out she didn't, like he
- 1:17:08just died of miserable death in an escape pod. So anyways, so back
- 1:17:17to kind of the nie Hill home base. So we get Loaden Great Storm
- 1:17:25back, and he had a chapter earlier on where he was kind of communicating
- 1:17:29with who we find out in this case was Mari Santeka, who is the
- 1:17:34old lady who's on board Marcian Rose ship, uh, providing him the pass
- 1:17:40that the night he'll use for their hyperspace journeys, and so kind of loading
- 1:17:46it looks like Loaden was going to be a leveler tests dummy in his cell
- 1:17:54and then manages to escape in that sense, which that that that's thread and
- 1:17:59trip of that, I guess because this part the one thing I do wish
- 1:18:04is that and Travis and Taylor from Geek first kind of hit on this,
- 1:18:09but this whole last part, looking back at it, it does kind of
- 1:18:13feel a little like, Okay, let's get to the end. And I'm
- 1:18:15like, I could have just used like ten more pacing to kind of say,
- 1:18:23Okay, we're good here, because don't get me wrong, like it's
- 1:18:28still written pretty good, and like once you get past okay, this is
- 1:18:30the pacing, it is what it is, like it's good. And so
- 1:18:38Lodan kind of escapes and gets his lightsaber back from Row and he kind of
- 1:18:43manages to have that face off with Roe, and he like his leaku I
- 1:18:51have been taken off by Roe as like kind of a punishment during his year
- 1:18:56long prison on the ship. Uh. And so he's like in the Light
- 1:19:02of the Jedi, he used this bulky twilight like beast of a Jedi like
- 1:19:08on top of his game, and like in this like he's told to be
- 1:19:11a emaciated, emanciated like just kind of just like pulled to his last string
- 1:19:19of living and in this case, like I really do think like his final
- 1:19:27test of the leveler before he unleashed it on the rest of the Jedi was
- 1:19:30going to be on loading to kind of see what it does. And in
- 1:19:34the end he gets his tenst of Louden. I'm sorry, I had like
- 1:19:42we just can't cross that bridge already because I'm like, this is scene,
- 1:19:45like, so you get all the Jedi coming in and Lzar confirms Indira because
- 1:19:50Indira and Bell's report because Indira is not necessarily trusted by Stone, which I'm
- 1:19:58interesting. I hope that's explored later on. And I like that Bell got
- 1:20:03Stell and Gios's Master's lightsaber, Like I felt like that was a cool touch.
- 1:20:08That was a really nice touch. I did appreciate that a lot.
- 1:20:14But in this, in this moment that you're talking about, you know,
- 1:20:16when Loden is finally escaping, like he's getting the encouragement, and like the
- 1:20:27entire time, I got through work so quickly because I knew I was gonna
- 1:20:33I was going to finish early as far as like the book, I knew
- 1:20:36I was going to finish before my shift ended, and so I hid in
- 1:20:41like a small little corner at work and just started listening when you when he
- 1:20:48finally like gets confronted with Marcian Rowe, and then you get the narration of
- 1:20:55like, oh, if if Great Storm was at his prime, he would
- 1:21:00have no problem with marchianro And at that moment, I was like, what
- 1:21:05are you gonna do? Don't tell, don't give me that specific detail unless
- 1:21:11something's gonna happen, and I don't want it to happen. Don't do it.
- 1:21:15And then Marchion ro tries to like poison him, and he like he
- 1:21:20is able to dodge, but again it goes into intricate detail about oh,
- 1:21:26but he's not on his A game. He isn't as strong as he is
- 1:21:30because, like you said, he is, he is withered. He is
- 1:21:33probably pounds lighter than he was, you know when he was first captured and
- 1:21:39he falls, and I'm just like, what's gonna happen? Like why did
- 1:21:45you let him escape if he's not gonna reunite with Belle in this case?
- 1:21:50And this is what my brain was going through the entire time. I was
- 1:21:53like, no, don't do this, don't do this. But I didn't.
- 1:21:57I didn't catch this until Travis and Taylor brought it up in their review,
- 1:22:03saying that this was a very ironic situation because of Bell's situation in light
- 1:22:13of the Jedi. You know this whole thing about falling, and he needs
- 1:22:17to be confident enough to be able to catch himself with the force. And
- 1:22:23there's this moment and I'm getting goosebumps already just thinking about it. There's this
- 1:22:27moment where Bell sees him and he starts to slow him down, but then
- 1:22:31there's also blaster fire coming around, and without missing a beat, He's able
- 1:22:35to like block and deflect every single thing. And I was like, yes,
- 1:22:41Like I was cheering, and I was just like, let's do this,
- 1:22:44Let's do this, let's do this. And then they reunite and I'm
- 1:22:48just like, this is the greatest ending of the entire freaking series so far.
- 1:22:55I love this book. This is amazing, And Kevin, I hate
- 1:22:59you so much much for what happens next. I didn't even process the ending
- 1:23:06at the like, when I got there, I was like, okay,
- 1:23:10so they got like the leveler is working on them, Like I got that
- 1:23:15far, and then Stelling comes up and it's like or no, the Marshal
- 1:23:19arn Row like takes off in a ship, and I'm like, okay,
- 1:23:21so we're good, Like we're gonna everybody's gonna be okay, Like we're a
- 1:23:25little beat up, We're all gonna be fine. And Stellin and El's are
- 1:23:29I think a deer was down there and they're all like, what the heck
- 1:23:32just happened? And els Are and and Dea were kind of up there and
- 1:23:36they're like shocked and they're like look and then you just like you get the
- 1:23:43you get the description of the stone, and it's like, no, are
- 1:23:49you kidding me? Yeah? That was my reaction. Yeah, right,
- 1:24:00what about you? How did you react? I had? I like dropped
- 1:24:03the book when I read the like just the crumbling thinking of like you know,
- 1:24:10people getting snapped out of existence and like you know, infinny war and
- 1:24:13stuff like that. I was just like it, like excuse me. And
- 1:24:16I think I swore a couple of times. My wife was like are you
- 1:24:19okay? Because she heard me from another room just like reading. She's like,
- 1:24:23what's wrong? And I'm like it's this book is what's wrong? Like
- 1:24:26they just did this terrible thing. She's like okay, so you're fine.
- 1:24:30She went like went back to sleep, and I need to talk to something
- 1:24:33else about this. That that's what That's what my husband did too, just
- 1:24:40in the in this moment of like you like again, because from Afar,
- 1:24:46I believe it was Man that he got like a quick glimpse of another force
- 1:24:55vision. And then I believe it was Geos that saw Marchian Roe from Afar
- 1:25:02and saw a creature of some kind, but there was no description. And
- 1:25:10then the next thing, you know, Geos is running to the to the
- 1:25:15others, and you see this description of Bell in the fetal position, crying
- 1:25:23his eyes out, and I'm like, why would he be doing this?
- 1:25:28Great Storm is right there, he's fine, everybody's fine. And then you
- 1:25:33get the again, this whole entire thing of like what is it called a
- 1:25:42petrification or whatever, of him being turned into stone, and then like the
- 1:25:47fact that his face crumbles, like it's not like, oh he's petrified but
- 1:25:54he can turn back. No, he's petrified, and then his head caves
- 1:25:58in, and I'm just like, why why would you do this to me?
- 1:26:03Like it was a personal attack At that point, the one thing,
- 1:26:10the one thing from Light of the Jedi. At the very end, I
- 1:26:15was like, Loden, you can do this, You're you're a great Jedi.
- 1:26:20Bell's gonna save you. And then we get this far and I'm like,
- 1:26:26it's there, like our happy ending is here. It's great. We
- 1:26:30can like you both, like he is like almost officially a Jedi Knight and
- 1:26:36basically in mind, and you guys can fight together. It's gonna be amazing.
- 1:26:43No, No, it was heartbreaking, heartbreaking. I think Kristen Baber
- 1:26:50put it best on her episode of This Week in Star Wars last week where
- 1:26:56she put up the cover of the Rising Storm and then I don't know what
- 1:27:00else she said about it because I didn't watch it, but I just saw
- 1:27:02this going around on Twitter as like Kevin knows what he did, and damn
- 1:27:06right, he knows what he did. I think even responded that he's just
- 1:27:11like, yes, it's just like gleeful in his mastery of our error.
- 1:27:16I just have to give him a lot of props right now because he's writing.
- 1:27:20He wrote this book, he's writing the High Republic Marvel comic, he's
- 1:27:26writing The Monster, a graphic novel for uh Tyoris, and then he's writing
- 1:27:34Tempest Runner, the audio drama for Lorna d So he was the busy man
- 1:27:40in the past six months. So I have to at least give him props
- 1:27:44for that because we don't know what Claudia Gray is doing next. I just
- 1:27:48have to put that in there again, what Claudia Gray's writing right now?
- 1:27:53I just it's killing me inside well, just knowing that like he has like
- 1:28:00this really wants me to pick up Doku Jedi Lost because he can't recommended it
- 1:28:06enough. Like I, I quickly after finishing this book, I quickly looked
- 1:28:13up his credits and I was just like, Okay, what else has he
- 1:28:15done? Because I need more of this. As much as it hurt me,
- 1:28:18I need more of this. He has also done, uh, the
- 1:28:25the Star Wars Vaders Castle comic book, which I have heard very very good
- 1:28:30things about. And he has done also the Han and Chewy comics as well
- 1:28:38as Oh that a lot. Doctor Who. Yes, he also did Doctor
- 1:28:44Who. But he also did the j The Great Jedi Rescue, which is
- 1:28:47the one book that I did not pick up. It's like the it's the
- 1:28:53kid's book. Yeah, so great range, very good range. So is
- 1:29:02there anything kind of we didn't discuss that y'all want to hit I don't think
- 1:29:14so, just you know, it's funny. We didn't really talk about it,
- 1:29:20and neither did Travis and Taylor, but like Bell went through a crap
- 1:29:26ton in this book. Mm hmm, so the point of almost dying.
- 1:29:30So listeners, I'm not going to spoil how but go read this book.
- 1:29:33Cannot recommend it enough by it. Buy multiple copies to give to your friends,
- 1:29:42Do whatever you can. This is such a great book. That's all
- 1:29:45I have to say. And one thing I did forget to mention is that
- 1:29:48today the book did debut on New York Times Bestseller List at number nine on
- 1:29:55the hardcover adult list, so very very good. Congratulations to Kevin dj Older's
- 1:30:02middle grade book, Race to Crash Point Tower did also debut at number four
- 1:30:08on the middle grade spectrum, so perhaps props again to the higher republic guys.
- 1:30:13I know that was a big thing for uh Wave one, so glad
- 1:30:17to see Wave to continue and know that it's just happening. So y'all,
- 1:30:26we've been going for an hour and a half and I think we covered a
- 1:30:30wide range of things from this book. Like we didn't cover all of it,
- 1:30:34I can tell you right now we didn't, but we definitely covered a
- 1:30:39lots and if there's something that you read this book and you want us to
- 1:30:46dive in on it later on into a different Star Wars alliance. Clay will
- 1:30:51be coming back to join me for more High Republic unless we can convince Nathan
- 1:30:57to come back and read it. But granted, Clay is always well come
- 1:31:00back. So there you have it, So Clay and I will definitely tackle
- 1:31:03it on a future one. If you read it and you're like what the
- 1:31:06fuck, Like I need to talk about this, come come back, like,
- 1:31:10come share it. I did have one comment from a listener, Jacob
- 1:31:15who's Blue Underscore leader RS on Twitter. He saw my tweets about Rising Storm
- 1:31:23and just wanted to say it was so good but the ending and then with
- 1:31:29like the sad face, so like he loved the book and was just as
- 1:31:32shocked as the rest of us on the ending, Like I really, I
- 1:31:35really just wanted Bell and Loaded to have a happy ending, like Clay said,
- 1:31:40like it just it's so sad. So we don't know what's coming next.
- 1:31:46In terms of adult books for the Higher Republic, however, the next
- 1:31:50book that is dropping is Out of the Shadows by Justina Ireland. It does
- 1:31:55feature the character she developed in her middle grade book that released in Way one,
- 1:32:00Vernestra Rowe as well as I think Rees Silas is back in it.
- 1:32:05I think yes, Reith is back in it. He's on the cover as
- 1:32:10well as a new character, so it'll be interesting to kind of see those
- 1:32:14characters interact. That book is coming. I think it's July twenty seventh,
- 1:32:18Yes, twenty seventh, so about two weeks from now, so we'll be
- 1:32:24back then to talk about it. What is next for Star Wars Lins Stars
- 1:32:30Lins will be what don't miss it? Oh yeah, Ryan has already ready.
- 1:32:38That's that's all I'm gonna say, So go get it. What I'm
- 1:32:44joss. Ryan produces reviews consistently, and Clay. Once we get this going
- 1:32:48with consistency, maybe we can get Disney and del Ray to give us books.
- 1:32:54I need. I need to. I need to possibly get my connections
- 1:32:57at Marvel to get into Lucas and be like, give me more for sure.
- 1:33:05No, we are grateful for all week get and I love getting to
- 1:33:09review these Star Wars books. They've always been a blessing to me, like
- 1:33:13throughout my life, so I always love getting to talk about them. Star
- 1:33:16Wars Alliance will be back Sunday to talk about Star Wars News and the Bad
- 1:33:21Batch episodes ten and eleven, so make sure you're here ten am Eastern to
- 1:33:26check you south. Then the next episode of Star Wars Alliance, we will
- 1:33:30be covering Darth Bayne Path of Destruction, which is a Legends book. But
- 1:33:33Nathan's been reading that. I know Clay has been working and reading that too,
- 1:33:38so I see his face. Oh he just finished. I have two
- 1:33:44more books to finish before I get in the Path of Destruction, so I
- 1:33:45have to get reading. But I have read that one before, so it
- 1:33:48should be fine. So that's what's next upcoming for Star Wars Liance. Very
- 1:33:54excited, Ryan tell us where they can find you on Twitter and plug whatever
- 1:34:00you want to at this point. Sure you can find myself the website on
- 1:34:05Twitter and Instagram at minock manor it's just all one word, of course.
- 1:34:10Just visit the website minuck Manner dot com. You can check out our latest
- 1:34:15reviews of all the comics, all the books, and one of our risis
- 1:34:19Chrisy's doing a legendary adventure series Who's going through all the Legends books like you
- 1:34:24guys are kind of covering Darth Bane, He's covered that before. It's just
- 1:34:27kind of going through that whole journey. It's kind of need to have both
- 1:34:30the current and some of the older stuff covered. Yep, play tell us
- 1:34:36where they can find you. All right, Well, I'm not going to
- 1:34:40go through all of my shows because I have way too many, but I
- 1:34:43will tell you you can find me at fanboy Klay on Twitter. And I
- 1:34:46do have a link tree in my bio where you have a link to all
- 1:34:49of my shows, all six. Yes, and I will leave all the
- 1:34:55links to my knock manor I'll leave Ryan's Twitter information down below. I will
- 1:34:59also leave Clay stuff and I believe his link tree. There's too many shows
- 1:35:02to link in the description box and makes it too long, but just go
- 1:35:04look at his link tree. So it's very useful to have. Okay,
- 1:35:09Oh, it's very useful. You can find this show on Twitter. It's
- 1:35:13at Star Wars Lance without the A and the Wars very important. I am
- 1:35:16on Twitter. It's at Slice of Katie. If you want to come talk
- 1:35:19Star Wars, if you've got a question about Star Wars, if you have
- 1:35:23a specific character about Star Wars you want us to talk about. I love
- 1:35:26doing this I love diving into characters. So if you want us to talk
- 1:35:30about it, like shoot me a DIM, shoot Star Wars, Lions a
- 1:35:32DM. Heck, shoot play a DM, he will tell me and I
- 1:35:35will follow up. But I love kind of diving into this. Star Wars
- 1:35:40has always been my heart, my home. So yeah that. My other
- 1:35:46show is at Slice of Film, where we talk about a film of the
- 1:35:50guests choosing nine times out of ten it is a movie I haven't seen.
- 1:35:55This episode is premiering simultaneously with a review of Fast and Furior. It's nine
- 1:36:00The Fast Saga next week will also be a dual episode release with a Quiet
- 1:36:05Place too. So that's the upcoming shows that I have, right, I

- 1:36:29people on, so Clay, thanks for joining me. I know you will
- 1:36:33be back soon, yep. So with that, I want to wish everyone
- 1:36:40a great day or night, whatever time the day you're listening or watching an
- 1:36:44We'll see you'll next time. May the Force be with y'all.
