- 1:47I didn't want to mention it because you know what I'm
- 1:48talking about. Anybody watching WNBA
- 1:51basketball, you know what happened last week?
- 1:53It was a interesting story as we broke it last week and now,
- 1:58ladies and gentlemen, he's calmly, he's calm, he's waiting,
- 2:03and he is doing his thing in Tampa.
- 2:05We are now talking to former 11 year MLB outfielding vet and
- 2:11former Phillies, Guardians, Pirates and Astros player Jason
- 2:17Michaels. Jason, what is up, my friend?
- 2:20How you doing? Thanks for having me on.
- 2:22And by the way, it's the Indians, not the guardians.
- 2:24I'm sorry, don't say that to Job, but you're going to piss
- 2:28Job off. No, he played for the Indians.
- 2:31He didn't play for the Guardian. I know, I know, I.
- 2:34Think it's just respect, you know I don't.
- 2:36Whatever we can, that's a whole other story.
- 2:39Listen, I get myself enough. I get myself in trouble enough
- 2:43on this show. People love to attack me on
- 2:45social media. So me coming out and saying I
- 2:47wanted to, I wanted you to say it, Jason, because I don't want
- 2:50to get myself into trouble. It's enough that people are
- 2:53attacking me about damn Anthony Edwards and my takes on Anthony
- 2:57Edwards cry me a damn river. What is wrong with people?
- 3:02I I got my take. I love Anthony Edwards.
- 3:04Let's stop. I I don't want to get into it.
- 3:06Let's get into the Phillies. What is going on with the
- 3:09Philadelphia Phillies? I know they they had a
- 3:11sensational game yesterday and they're up and down.
- 3:15I do not know what this team is. What is this team?
- 3:17What is the identity of this Philadelphia Phillies team?
- 3:20You know, I'm not sure I'm watching the Yankees game right
- 3:23now and the Rangers. I saw the game last night.
- 3:26Sanchez was that was fun to be a hitter.
- 3:30Yeah, right now, last night he had such good control of his
- 3:32change up that was. And then who was the closer that
- 3:36came in 100? And 3.3 Sorry about your luck.
- 3:42That's it. Yeah, no big deal.
- 3:47So I think that was a pretty good pick up by the Phillies
- 3:49there. So maybe that'll give them a
- 3:51little bit of a boost. But other than that, the
- 3:55Phillies, I mean, they they got, they got the parts, they do,
- 3:59they got the parts. And it's just up to them to to
- 4:02keep, to capitalize and just to continue to win series.
- 4:04Bottom line, you got to win series.
- 4:06Winning that first game of the series is huge.
- 4:10And you know, Java can tell you that, but you got to win that
- 4:13first game. That's always, that's always a
- 4:15big one. But yeah, but I'm watching this
- 4:18these this Yankees game. Please stop.
- 4:21It just got a little upset with Jazz again.
- 4:24Shocker. I thought he had AI, thought he
- 4:27had a play. Let me tell you something,
- 4:29Jason, this guy over here in the corner and I, I love Jabba.
- 4:33Me and him have been working together now for a year.
- 4:35We we've built a good relationship.
- 4:37I don't love. Him stop, stop.
- 4:40I remember when we started, we were, so we started working
- 4:44together during the playoffs, during the playoffs last year
- 4:48and he had this like, I couldn't stand this guy.
- 4:52And he has this like love fest for Jazz Chisholm.
- 4:54And he was like, what do you hate this guy for?
- 4:57I respect the fact he's in the big.
- 4:58Leagues, OK, all right. I, I, I respect the fact that a
- 5:02lot of these guys are in the big leagues and this guy, to me,
- 5:05should be playing AAA baseball. The amount of debacle blunders
- 5:08that he's had so far in the last couple of weeks.
- 5:11This guy, did you watch him? Did you watch him at the Home
- 5:13Run Derby? This guy was yapping and
- 5:16prancing, dancing around with his stupid ass chains, and then
- 5:20he goes out there and lays A lousy goose egg right in front
- 5:23of the fans. That was embarrassing.
- 5:25Embarrassing. And then what did he And then
- 5:27what did he say? The reason why he didn't do
- 5:29well, I didn't want to mess up my swing.
- 5:31Then why the why the fuck did you get into it?
- 5:34Why do you that? That goes to exactly what we
- 5:36were talking about earlier too. Like he always does these things
- 5:39like that one when he got picked off, he said he was trying to
- 5:41make a play. What play are you trying to make
- 5:43There's. No play to make I.
- 5:45Know like you just dig yourself a deeper hole.
- 5:48Like I respect the fact that what he does, he's he's an
- 5:51average player. He's going to run into ones
- 5:53whatever, like he is what he is. But like when you start digging
- 5:57yourself holes out, like especially after the Home Run
- 5:59Derby, like you knew what you were getting yourself into,
- 6:01you'd just oh, the fall back. Is that why do it?
- 6:04Probably if he got a bonus to do it, not that that matters, but
- 6:08like I was going to make a play. There's no play to be made.
- 6:11If there was a play to be made and you were being aggressive, I
- 6:13don't mind the physical errors. I don't mind those.
- 6:16Like if you're trying to stretch it and you do that, but a mental
- 6:19error and then try to come back and be like, yeah, I was trying
- 6:20to make a play when there was no play to be made.
- 6:23And then he said, and then he said he that he wouldn't.
- 6:25There was nothing he would do different.
- 6:26He would do the same thing again.
- 6:29And I'm like that. That doesn't make any sense to
- 6:31me. Imagine if if that happened in
- 6:34the clubhouse back like no freaking way you would get.
- 6:38Knocked out, yeah, there, there would probably be a fight or at
- 6:42least some pushing and 100% and you know, you didn't need the
- 6:45manager to take you out. I feel like Booney should have
- 6:51took him out then. That's just my deal.
- 6:54I mean, you got you got to have some accountability.
- 6:56How else you going to have some accountability?
- 6:58He doesn't have any, apparently. You got you got to show your
- 7:03team that, hey, I don't give a shit if you're an everyday
- 7:05player, I'm going to take your ass out.
- 7:07You do something stupid. Bottom line, it is what it is.
- 7:10You sit out for the rest of the game.
- 7:11You cheer on your guys next day. Back in the saddle tomorrow.
- 7:15But that's not the first time we've seen Jazz come out there
- 7:19and Prance out there and make mistakes.
- 7:21And then after the game, how many times have we heard, oh,
- 7:24we're still one of the best defensive teams in the league.
- 7:26We're still the best team in the American League.
- 7:29Where, where do you see the best team in the American League?
- 7:32Now, the American League to me is mediocre.
- 7:35I I do not think there's a powerhouse in this American
- 7:38League. I really don't.
- 7:38The Blue Jays, do they scare me? Not really.
- 7:41Do does really right now with the Texas Rangers, besides what
- 7:46they have with the Grom and and what they could prance out there
- 7:49in a playoffs, the back-to-back pitchers are are they really
- 7:52scary? Seattle, any one of these teams,
- 7:55Detroit, a young team, Are we really scared?
- 7:57The Astros, they had a Correa and it's a trade deadline.
- 8:01None of these teams really stick out to me like they're world
- 8:04beaters. But Jazz Chisholm coming out and
- 8:07saying, hey, you know what? We're still the best team in the
- 8:10American League. I could argue we're the best
- 8:11team in the major leagues. What are you smoking, dude?
- 8:15It is legalized here in in New York to smoke marijuana.
- 8:18Maybe he's smoking too many trees.
- 8:20I I mean seriously. Or smoking something that's
- 8:23getting to his brain and it's burnt.
- 8:26I don't. Get it?
- 8:26How's the how's the media with him, with jazz?
- 8:31Are they calling him out? The fans love him here.
- 8:34The fans absolutely love him. I can't stand him, but the fans
- 8:37love him because of his personality.
- 8:40But when you make blunders like he did the other day and then
- 8:44after the game making excuses, eventually you're not you're not
- 8:48taking accountability like you guys, but both you and Jabba,
- 8:51said Jason. So what are fans going to start
- 8:54looking at? They're going to look at this
- 8:56guy and say he's an absolute joke.
- 8:57Why is he on this roster? And again, that goes to Brian
- 9:01Cashman. That goes to ownership on the
- 9:04way. They decided over the last
- 9:07couple of weeks before the trade deadline.
- 9:09Hey, Josh Chisholm's having a great season.
- 9:12Well, at one point he was having a great season.
- 9:14Maybe we should move him. He doesn't fit here.
- 9:17He doesn't work here in New York because of his mouth.
- 9:20But the Yankees decide, hey, he's a top ten second baseman
- 9:24right now. We're going to keep this idiot
- 9:26when they have labor. Torres right now having a
- 9:28breakout season and looks like he's going to earn his money in
- 9:32the offseason because the Yankees are wrong about him.
- 9:35And by the way, how about this? Besides John Carlos Stan, who
- 9:39has better numbers than Glaber Torres in the playoffs over the
- 9:43last couple of years for the Yankees, the answer Just John
- 9:46Carlos Stanton. So that tells me the Yankees
- 9:49made the wrong decision when it came to deciding if Glaber
- 9:53Torres fit there, because Volpe definitely doesn't.
- 9:58Volpe, You know, Volpe is a better player than what he's
- 10:05showing, at least hitting wise. I haven't seen him much, you
- 10:09know, defense. Look, I know whatever it is.
- 10:11I mean, but I mean, I know he's got his home runs or whatever.
- 10:15I don't give a shit. I don't he's not a home run
- 10:16hitter. Stop trying to hit him fucking
- 10:18home runs. Bottom line.
- 10:20Like I remember here when he was in Tampa last time, I mean, they
- 10:24they just kept throwing him up and he kept fucking swinging.
- 10:27And I'm like, dude, what are you doing?
- 10:28Make a fucking adjustment. Try to hit a line drive.
- 10:31And that's what that's to me, that's what's going on in
- 10:34baseball today. Like there's not there's not
- 10:361300 hitter in National League and I think there's maybe 6 in
- 10:40the American League. That's awful.
- 10:42Not to say any of the pitching is good, but let me tell you
- 10:45something. It's a hitter's umpire.
- 10:48All these umpires are hitters umpires and, and Joppa's going
- 10:51to, you could tell the exact same thing.
- 10:52I mean, they are squeezing the shit out of these pitchers.
- 10:55All of them. I can't imagine, like this is a,
- 10:58this is a hitter's umpire, every single one of these guys.
- 11:02And so to me, there should be more hitting, but it's more that
- 11:07these guys want to. It's either home run or nothing.
- 11:09That's it. They don't give a shit if they
- 11:11strike out. I gave a shit big time if I
- 11:14struck out. It's embarrassing.
- 11:15It's embarrassing as hell, but some of these guys don't give a
- 11:17fuck. So switch it back.
- 11:19To Yeah, I. Was gonna say switch it back to
- 11:21the Phillies to controversial comments that were made last
- 11:23week about with Bryce Harper and Nick Casillanos taking shots at
- 11:26Rob Manford about the the salary cap in baseball.
- 11:29Where do you stand on that whole debate?
- 11:31Yeah, there doesn't need to be a salary cap.
- 11:33I'll tell you right now, owners are making too much money.
- 11:36How did it get out? How did it I mean?
- 11:38Bryce Harper vented at him. They literally went in a meeting
- 11:41and and just vented at him. Was there was there media or
- 11:44anything in there? No Castellanos talked about it
- 11:47afterwards. Let's keep it quiet.
- 11:49Just I mean, it's like you got to hold your cards.
- 11:51I mean, I think everybody knows. I mean, obviously the players or
- 11:54the players association, which I hope they get in there.
- 11:56Good pitch right there. See, see how they I don't know
- 11:59if you're watching this game. Yeah, we have it on.
- 12:01We have it on time. Thank you for calling that a
- 12:05ball. That's what I'm saying.
- 12:06But here's the thing, and I know everybody's we can go back and
- 12:09forth on the salary cap and, and, and what players should be
- 12:13making if that's the case. All right, You don't want
- 12:16obviously cap you, you want players to decide what they
- 12:20should be making. OK, so maybe the the league
- 12:24figures out how that they can adjust this where you can go to
- 12:28a bowl game. It's too expensive to go to ball
- 12:30games. Now, Jason Jabba, you know this,
- 12:33I mean, to get a hot dog, We we put up the numbers.
- 12:36It's like $30 to get a hot dog. It really is.
- 12:39To get a sausage and Peppers, it's like 20 something dollars.
- 12:43How could you afford to take your kids to go and watch Aaron
- 12:46Judge play? Or I get a chance to see Max
- 12:49Freed on a mound. When you get a chance to see one
- 12:51of the better pitchers in baseball pitch on a mound with
- 12:53the Yankees, I mean, to me it's embarrassing.
- 12:57So if you think there shouldn't be a cap, well, how does this
- 13:00work out for the the young, the young fans out there that want
- 13:05to get a chance to see their favorite players?
- 13:07To me, it's not really the concessions though that could be
- 13:11adjusted. That's just being greedy, you
- 13:13know, and they're going, hey, they're here, we can charge it.
- 13:16It's, you know, these owners are very well off.
- 13:22Let's put it that way. I'm not advocating that we need
- 13:24to have, I mean, these are some big ass salaries out there and
- 13:28maybe it needs to be something more with, you know, like the
- 13:31lower market teams. I mean, the lower market teams,
- 13:34they're not they're not putting any money into their into their
- 13:37team as the big market teams. If they have the stones to do
- 13:40it, Tampa, they won't put they will not get anybody big, but
- 13:45they usually put out a pretty competitive product and they do
- 13:48a good job with with their player development.
- 13:50You know, they're scouting all the I'm not worried about the
- 13:53scouts. It's more the player development
- 13:54with the with each of these teams, the talents there.
- 13:58I just don't think I think MLB is just they they want ass in
- 14:01the stands. They want you to to come yes
- 14:04jerseys, all this shit, but it all really comes from the TV
- 14:07contracts. You know, I don't know what
- 14:09happened with this ESPN deal. They just they pulled that
- 14:12because I guess they rather have NBA on there that nobody fucking
- 14:15watches. No, I mean, I know that's going
- 14:19down the NBA, I mean. Well, ESPN in the NFL on the
- 14:23network have connected now. I mean, honestly, everything
- 14:26that we're seeing, all these organizations, they're starting
- 14:29to bring them together because they're, they feel that it'll
- 14:32bring in more endorsements and more sponsorships and
- 14:34advertisements and money. So I Major League over the
- 14:38years, they're they're trying to catch up to the NFL, they're
- 14:42trying to catch up to the NBA. That's what they're doing.
- 14:45And again, going back to what we're saying, the Yankees right
- 14:49now or the the faces of baseball, they're still you.
- 14:53You could say whatever you want about the Dodgers.
- 14:57They are the faces of baseball. But then you go to how
- 15:00Steinbrenner and how he's run this team differently than
- 15:03George. You, you shake your head, Yankee
- 15:06Finn, shake the head. But if you look at the cap and
- 15:08the way the Yankees are spending, they're still spending
- 15:10massive amount of money. So there's they're just picking
- 15:13the wrong players. So that's that's the way I look
- 15:16at the Yankees. That's a different animal.
- 15:18Not everybody can play there and you know, like you come to the
- 15:21trade deadline here and you got some you picked up some guys.
- 15:23Not everybody fits. They they could be having, you
- 15:27know, good, good, you know, numbers of elsewhere, but New
- 15:31York's a different animal. Just bottom line, like
- 15:33everybody's calling for boonies head like what the fucks,
- 15:35boonie? I don't need my he's fine.
- 15:39OK, I'm the player. I'm the one that's held
- 15:41accountable, although who gets who gets fired at the?
- 15:44Coaches, but they're usually always the scapegoat for sure.
- 15:48Absolutely. So I don't know, I feel like a
- 15:51lot of the GMs of these teams are making the decisions because
- 15:56of their analytical bullshit. And that's, that's Jason.
- 16:00That's kind of what we've we've heard too from that's what I
- 16:03think from numerous people and people close to the game and
- 16:07some guys that cover it is it's basically he's he's the puppet
- 16:12of what they want from the front office.
- 16:14And we've heard that more than once.
- 16:15Like I said, I'm not in the front office, I'm not in the
- 16:18clubhouse and I'm not making it. But if you hear it once and if
- 16:23you hear it twice, yeah, OK. But when you hear it more than
- 16:25that, there's got to be some legs to it.
- 16:27And it just, it feels like that too, because you can only, you
- 16:32can only stand behind your and do you want your manager to
- 16:34stand behind you? 100%?
- 16:35You don't want to, you know, roll over you with the bus and
- 16:38back it up and go forward again. I mean, there are times where
- 16:41you, we know we suck and we suck.
- 16:43Like it's OK to tell me I suck. I know I suck.
- 16:45You're not, you're not talking down to me or saying something
- 16:50that we don't know. Like I know I suck.
- 16:52He's better than that. You know what he's he's
- 16:54struggling right now. But we're going to figure that
- 16:56that's there's nothing wrong with that.
- 16:58And I don't see enough of that. Where we're grown men like we
- 17:02know when we suck and this is a performance based.
- 17:05It's what you've done for me lately.
- 17:07Understand that. But when you're, you know, in
- 17:09three seasons, you're literally adding on to your airs.
- 17:13And I'm, I'm using Volpe as an example where he's got 16 errors
- 17:17already in 111 games and he's leading the league.
- 17:21And so there's there's just and everybody and every article is
- 17:25like, all right, is he running a Country Club or is he running a
- 17:27clubhouse? And is he your friend or is he
- 17:30going to hold you? And accountable has been the
- 17:32word that I think has been beat over the head so many times.
- 17:35And, and we can say it, but it just, it feels like that from
- 17:38afar as you see these things that keep happening.
- 17:41And we're not talking about just one time.
- 17:44We're talking about it keeps happening.
- 17:46And where at some point do you just like enough's enough?
- 17:49Like do you need a day or two? Like do you need, I'm not saying
- 17:53be sent down or what it, but like, do you just need like a
- 17:55couple days? Like, you know, like there's
- 17:57some days you just need like a me day, Like, you know what, I'm
- 18:00just going to get to the yard and I'm going to stuff my face
- 18:04in the food room and I'm going to do nothing.
- 18:06I'm not going to take any swings.
- 18:07And sometimes less is more where you can just get out of your own
- 18:11Dome. And I think what happens now,
- 18:13and we kind of caught like the the beginning of this analytical
- 18:19side of things, right where I feel like it's so much becomes
- 18:23paralysis by analysis because it's always in your face.
- 18:26Yeah. You don't ever have that chance
- 18:28to just get the hell away from it.
- 18:30It's like, hey, there's an iPad right when you get back in the
- 18:33dugout, this is your pitches. There's the video room.
- 18:35It's all right there. You don't have time just to sit
- 18:37there and throw a dip in or put bubble gum or pop some seeds
- 18:41without it all just being right in front of your face.
- 18:45It's just a different, yeah, different generation though than
- 18:48when we played. I mean, everybody's fucking
- 18:50sensitive nowadays. Yes, it's OK, You could tell me
- 18:55I suck. 100%, I know I did. Thank you.
- 18:58Thank you. I you know what?
- 18:59I want you to hear that. I don't want you to pat me on
- 19:01the back. Yeah.
- 19:02No. I want you to tell me to pull my
- 19:03head out of my ass and figure it.
- 19:05Out. I want you to pat me on the
- 19:06back. That would be nice.
- 19:07I get a a pat on the back from Choppa Chamberlain.
- 19:10Oh, you're trying to steal a base on me?
- 19:14That's still not going to happen, but but yeah, I just,
- 19:17it's, it's amazing that they don't, they don't have it.
- 19:22Each organization's put so much money in the analytical
- 19:25department and I think they're taken away from player
- 19:27development because they're they're they're making their
- 19:30decisions on all numbers that we're human now.
- 19:34Even when when I played we had plenty of information about the
- 19:37pictures and what all the bullshit.
- 19:39That's that's what it, that's our advanced scouts did.
- 19:41So we had it. Yeah, we had it.
- 19:43But now they have these guys have fucking booklets sitting on
- 19:48their chairs when they get to the first game of their series.
- 19:52You know, like right now, guaranteed that the Yankees,
- 19:54they had, you know what, here in Texas, they had a big ass
- 19:57booklet of all these fucking numbers.
- 19:59We're not fucking math geniuses. You keep telling me all that
- 20:02shit. Oh, 22% of the time at 1-2,
- 20:05County throws this pitch. Who gives a fuck?
- 20:07Maybe he doesn't have that pitch that day.
- 20:09And I hate, I hated that Jason too, because I would look at I
- 20:12would get the sheet hot, cold zone and and hitters counts,
- 20:16whatever. Like, oh, he's terrible to
- 20:18change up. I had a horseshit change up.
- 20:20Why are you even throwing that in my information?
- 20:22Like I don't want to see it because now I'm like 01/2.
- 20:26I can try and it's terrible. Like let me pitch to my
- 20:29strength. I don't need to have all of
- 20:31this. Like I don't need it.
- 20:32Yeah. It's amazing, you know, getting
- 20:35on some people on Twitter. Sometimes I just do it just to
- 20:37fuck around, just to fucking, you know, get it going a little
- 20:40bit. I'm bored, you know, and like.
- 20:42Some of these, oh, I, I had some, I had some keyboard
- 20:45warriors come at me today with like plus WRC and whatever and I
- 20:48was like, is this English or hieroglyphic?
- 20:50Like are you? Coaching.
- 20:51I'm going. Are you Coach Fish over there?
- 20:53I don't. Understand.
- 20:53I don't understand that. I really don't.
- 20:55Dude, I love it and people are like, Hey, be careful these
- 20:58keyboard warriors. And I'm like, I was like, I want
- 21:00all the smoke like because I'm learning just as you are like I
- 21:04know some of them. I'm not speedy and know like all
- 21:07of the plus minus extra whatever jargon.
- 21:10Jabba, I think Fish is worse than Speedy now.
- 21:12I mean, he's got all the analytics.
- 21:15Yeah, he's even worse. I mean, we're we're on the
- 21:17phone. He's telling me about this
- 21:20analytic to that analytic. I'm like what the hell does this
- 21:23all I mean? Trying to make you money, man I.
- 21:25I think there are some. I can't.
- 21:28I can't say all analytics suck. There's there's some good ones.
- 21:31I think there's a lot of shit that you're just like, man, that
- 21:35doesn't apply to any anybody here.
- 21:37We're still human job and I, we kind of feel the same way.
- 21:40I feel like, you know, kind of talking for you, but that the
- 21:43game has changed. I'm upset about the hitters
- 21:46because we have hitters on pyres.
- 21:49I don't feel like the guys are throwing all that much harder
- 21:53because it didn't change that the are they, are they taking
- 21:56the radar out of the hand now? Yeah, it's definitely changed
- 22:01for sure. Although there are guys with I
- 22:04guess plus 90 shit. Yeah, now it's now it's the
- 22:07exact opposite. Now if you don't throw 95,
- 22:09they're like, I mean, we'll use a great example like Joe Ryan or
- 22:12guys like that that can spin it really well, but don't throw 95.
- 22:15There's like what? And if a guy does it, it's like.
- 22:18Whoa. I just watched Merrill Kelly
- 22:21throw for the Rangers on Saturday.
- 22:23Man, I was impressed. I mean, oh, he can pitch.
- 22:26He, I've never really watched him other than the World
- 22:29Baseball Classic. You know, he's in Arizona, I'm
- 22:31in Florida. I'm not really seeing it.
- 22:32But man, I was really impressed. He had both sides of the baby
- 22:37topped out at 93, you know, But he had great arm.
- 22:41Like you couldn't tell if it was a fastball, it was a four
- 22:44seamers Tinker or a change up. I don't like that as a hitter.
- 22:48I like, I liked him as a pick up too, coming from the
- 22:51Diamondbacks because they were getting rid of people, but
- 22:54obviously they didn't get a starter.
- 22:55But that's neither here nor there, I guess.
- 22:57But yeah, it's I, I, I like those guys because at the same
- 23:01time, and and I use this and I ask people all this time, like,
- 23:06could Jamie, like if you looked and and saw Jamie Moore pitch
- 23:08right now, would he pitch in the big leagues?
- 23:10No, If you looked and saw Dustin Pedrella, what would you say?
- 23:13Like, Nope, not big enough, not fast enough, It's bat speed's
- 23:17not good enough, blah, blah, blah.
- 23:18Like I agree with what you said earlier.
- 23:20And it's like not all of the analytics are bad.
- 23:23I think there's some of that are very useful, but I also think
- 23:26there's a time and a place for all of them where that can go
- 23:30with these things right here and watch the game and see how it
- 23:33unfolds. And that's a gamer.
- 23:34Like I want that dude like he's going to grind at bats for me
- 23:38and he's going to do the little things, get runners over, play
- 23:40the game the right way. And, you know, just be that, be
- 23:44that person where you, a analytical will not tell you
- 23:49that that dude's a gamer. It's like, oh, he has great spin
- 23:52rate, whatever, but you couldn't put a Grease BB up his ass when
- 23:55the game's on the line and he can't get it done.
- 23:58I don't want that guy. We all know gamers.
- 23:59We all know 100. Percent.
- 24:01There's gamers where you're like in practice or BP, you're like,
- 24:04this guy is just not that good. But he finds it puts finds a way
- 24:07to put the barrel of the bat on the ball.
- 24:09And then the exact opposite, you get the 5:00 All Star that
- 24:11you're like, damn, this dude has to be good and then he's
- 24:14terrible. And that's what I think what
- 24:18these guys are, They're just going to batting practice and
- 24:21watching the show. They're going, oh, he can hit.
- 24:23No, he fucking can't. The World Series when AJ Hinch,
- 24:26I heard, I think it might have been 17 that he they had the
- 24:30spin rates and they were lining up the spin rate of this
- 24:33reliever starter with this hitter.
- 24:35And if that didn't match, I don't know how they fucking
- 24:37judge that. Then they wouldn't put him in
- 24:39like that, right? There is not a baseball thing as
- 24:43a coach, like I don't give a shit who the pitcher is in.
- 24:46I'm going to get my best hitter that has given me the best at
- 24:49bats. I don't give a shape.
- 24:51He's left or right. I really don't.
- 24:52But now I think a lot of managers manage for the media
- 24:55because the media is going to ask the questions they don't
- 24:57want to have to go, well, this is what I want to do with the
- 25:00media is just going to jump. On yeah, because they're going
- 25:02to, they're going to have that analytic like, oh, he was like,
- 25:06they used Rosario tonight for the Yankees.
- 25:08He was hitting point O87 and then he gets a double and
- 25:12they're like, oh, he's 5 for 37 now.
- 25:14Oh blah blah blah. I hate the media too.
- 25:17And by the way, we are talking to former 11 year MLB outfield
- 25:21Jason Michaels. He's a hitting coach right now
- 25:24in Tampa. He's doing some things over
- 25:26there helping young boys and young kids develop their swing.
- 25:31As we all know, Speedy, you need to develop a swing.
- 25:34Maybe you? Need I was never good.
- 25:36I think my swings a lost cause. And I hate the media and what
- 25:39everybody says, well, you're the media.
- 25:40And here's the here's the problem with the media.
- 25:42They think they know more than the player.
- 25:44They think they could figure out what's the problem with the
- 25:47hitter? What's the problem with the
- 25:49pitcher. They don't know crap.
- 25:50What the hell does the media know?
- 25:52Oh, if you pitch a little lower, you pitch outside or you pitch a
- 25:55little higher and throw your heat up, you know, upright,
- 25:58you're going to strike this guy. You don't know nothing.
- 26:00How the hell do you know? And the media just thinks
- 26:03they're, oh, what did you play Little League baseball?
- 26:05How the hell? And again, because they write
- 26:08for the New York Times or they write for a certain magazine or
- 26:11they write for the Yankees blog, they know more than everybody
- 26:14else does. That's the problem right now
- 26:16when it comes to media work. Media thinks that they when they
- 26:20say something, people are going to listen, including the players
- 26:22and and now you got players that are tuning in and listening to
- 26:26what these guys are writing and it either pisses them off or it
- 26:29throws them off. Guys like you, Jabba, I know you
- 26:32never when you were playing baseball, I know you weren't
- 26:35watching you reading what Newsday was writing about you or
- 26:38the daily Daily Post. You didn't have to because you
- 26:42were playing for the New York Yankees.
- 26:43All you had to do was strut out there in the 8th or 9th inning
- 26:46and do what you do best and that strike people out.
- 26:48Now, if you have guys I don't know, you have all these
- 26:52different guys that the Yankees are trotting out there.
- 26:55Devin Williams. Devin Williams is definitely
- 26:57when he was in that in that slump.
- 26:59You don't think Devin Williams was reading the Newsday or
- 27:02reading what was going on all over social media?
- 27:05Of course he was. What Jason said too, in like how
- 27:08it's different pitching in New York, like, and I think he, he
- 27:12didn't realize, like obviously people say that and they're
- 27:14like, oh, yeah, it's New York, blah, blah, blah.
- 27:16But it's a different animal. Milwaukee's different pitching.
- 27:18And if you give up a couple yet, whatever.
- 27:21But you come here and it's easy to get in your own Dome because
- 27:25like you said, Errol, it's all right in front of you.
- 27:28It's all right there. Like if he lives in the city,
- 27:29he's walking down, you know, the street vendor, it's all right
- 27:33there. It's a headline.
- 27:34Like you can't help but notice it.
- 27:36Is he reading it? It's his own stupid ass fault.
- 27:39If he is reading it, it is absolutely you.
- 27:42You did the interview. You knew you know what like you
- 27:45know you sucked. You know you were pitching to an
- 27:4711 at one point in the year and you're pitching to A5 now.
- 27:49Like we know that's not good. You know it.
- 27:51Like you don't need to add fuel to the.
- 27:53Five. And that goes to Anthony Volpe.
- 27:55You're going to tell me right now, Anthony Volpe is right now
- 27:58just playing terrible baseball. He can't play defense.
- 28:00He can't. He can't do anything.
- 28:02This guy won a Gold Glove his rookie season.
- 28:05Now the guy can't even throw the first base.
- 28:07He's a Chuck Knob Lock wannabe. I mean, honestly, you're going
- 28:11to tell me that he's not reading what's going on in magazines and
- 28:14newspapers right now? Of course.
- 28:16He is. It shouldn't be.
- 28:18It's shoved in your face. I mean, you go in the in the
- 28:20clubhouse and it's all they got all the media, you know,
- 28:24printouts and you know, I came up through the Philly
- 28:27organization and so it doesn't really matter.
- 28:28Anybody East Coast tough. And then I went to Cleveland and
- 28:32I was like, whoa, this is this is different here.
- 28:35Awesome. Which what I learned though, and
- 28:37I tell people this and what I learned in Philly is I remember
- 28:41the old, the the veteran guys coming up and saying, listen,
- 28:43you do something good, they're going to say something, but some
- 28:45accountability. Don't try to fight them.
- 28:47Don't try to, you know this or blame that.
- 28:50Don't do it. Just have some accountability.
- 28:52So I think it it helped me have a young player first quick,
- 28:57because Philly would fucking Boo the shit out of you if you
- 28:59didn't run hard nowaday. I don't know how, because you
- 29:03know, not all the guys were running hard.
- 29:04Not I'm not saying a percent every time, but not fucking 50.
- 29:09No, but they're also, but again, they're making a lot more money.
- 29:12You have Juan Soto not trotting up the first base.
- 29:15He's getting killed by the media.
- 29:17We've seen that. How about Robertson Cano?
- 29:19How many times did we see Robertson Cano not run to first
- 29:23base and how he got killed by the media?
- 29:25And this guy was one of the best hitters we've ever seen come
- 29:28from the Yankees organization for, like, in the last 20 years.
- 29:31And he could not run the first base.
- 29:34And everybody said, oh, this guy's not running.
- 29:36He's not. The Yankees shouldn't sign him.
- 29:38And media was throwing him onto the bus.
- 29:40Meanwhile, he was a great. He was a shutdown defender, and
- 29:43he had some pop in his bat for a second baseman.
- 29:46Yeah, he was doing other things. I don't know.
- 29:48Hopefully he wasn't doing that with the Yankees, but we don't
- 29:50know. You know, Cano, he just has that
- 29:52personality. That's just his personality
- 29:55where it like it comes easy to him.
- 29:56The game comes easy to him and it does it like that's different
- 30:01majority of players more than a lot.
- 30:03I mean there's only a few baseball players that are like
- 30:05gifted. Other than that other ones.
- 30:08There's just this hard nosed hard workers.
- 30:11You just go out there and you and you compete and not let the
- 30:13negative down. That's really, I mean, there's
- 30:16there's a lot of talent in the minor leagues, but I'm not it's,
- 30:19it's, it could be it's between the ears and not letting the
- 30:22negative for the failure of the game bring it down.
- 30:25Jason, that's what I'm saying. Even with the quarterback
- 30:27position, we look at all these quarterbacks, their first round
- 30:29draft picks, second round draft picks and the future of these
- 30:32organizations and these organizations pay a lot of money
- 30:36now to these first round ask, ask The Jets with Zach Wilson.
- 30:40We go back and back and back and back and back year in and year
- 30:43out for different organizations and they just strike out every
- 30:46single time. And then, you know, 20 years
- 30:48later, they finally hit a home run and the guy can't stay
- 30:51healthy and you pay him a ton of money, boatload of money.
- 30:54That's the problem with professional sports now.
- 30:57And we can go back and forth. There's just so much money.
- 30:59It's become a business. Nobody cares about the
- 31:02camaraderie anymore. Everybody says, oh, I, I miss
- 31:05playing in the locker rooms. We, we heard that for Tom Brady.
- 31:09And now he took a shot at Scotty Scheffler last week and Scotty
- 31:13Scheffler coming out and saying, I'd rather be with my family and
- 31:15hang out with my family then play Professional Golf.
- 31:18And then Tom Brady, well, he throws Scotty Scheffler under
- 31:21the bus saying, oh, you, why can't you do both?
- 31:24Well, dude, you're the one who had a divorce.
- 31:26You're the one who decided to walk, walk away from the sport
- 31:29and tell your wife you're never coming back.
- 31:30And then you come back 2-3 weeks later and that's why you have a
- 31:34divorce and why you why sleeping with another man and you're
- 31:37taking shots at Scheffler. Come on, man.
- 31:40I just, I don't get it. I don't get it why anybody is
- 31:43opening. The mouth.
- 31:45I don't get it. I don't get it.
- 31:47I I really don't I and that's the problem with media and why
- 31:50we do this. Everything, everybody and their
- 31:52mother has a podcast. But here's the problem.
- 31:55When they go out there and I'm not attacking anybody and, and
- 31:57guys and women or listening to my show, listening to my Jabba
- 32:01show over the last couple of months and years, a year that
- 32:04we've been doing this. When we come out on this show,
- 32:06we tell, I tell the truth. And Jabba says I'm probably one
- 32:10of the most controversial people he's ever worked with.
- 32:13OK. And the reason why I'm
- 32:15controversial is, is the one reason why I've always been this
- 32:19type of person offset of a radio show.
- 32:22I'm not going to beat around the Bush.
- 32:24I'm just going to drive it in. And if you don't like it, you
- 32:27can shove it up your ass. And that's the way I say it.
- 32:30Jabba is a is a calm, collective guy in his own little way.
- 32:34And Jabba tries to hold back on some of the things he says
- 32:37because he doesn't want to throw himself under the bus.
- 32:40I'm the one that Jabba leans towards to throw everybody under
- 32:43the bus. So I, you see, thumbs up on that
- 32:46one. So unfortunately, media likes to
- 32:50to turn stories into more than what they are.
- 32:55And then when it becomes a story, they like to drive it
- 32:59where the sun doesn't shine until it becomes such a big
- 33:02story where these players or media guys make these stories
- 33:08more than it really is. And unfortunately, when
- 33:11baseball, baseball right now is the only sport.
- 33:14So what are people talking about right now?
- 33:16Well, the lead story right now is the New York Yankees, how bad
- 33:20they are. Aaron Judge who was up for an
- 33:23MVP and he's going to come back. Is he?
- 33:25Is the Yankees making the right decision bringing him back?
- 33:28Should he play in the outfield or should he be a designated
- 33:30hitter? Or are the Yankees a buyer or
- 33:33seller at the trade deadline? What a crock of shit.
- 33:36OK, I I'm so tired of hearing it.
- 33:39Here's what the Yankees should have done.
- 33:41Sell, sell, sell. But the Yankees organization
- 33:44never does that. They're not going to.
- 33:47They're not going to, period. You know, what accountability
- 33:50does the media have? They don't have accountability.
- 33:53They don't. They never do.
- 33:54Exactly. Accountability.
- 33:56Yeah, they and they don't have to because they're just trying
- 33:58to sell clicks now. They're not selling papers,
- 34:01they're trying to sell clicks. And you take away the power of
- 34:03the PIN from them, You go and tell them you suck.
- 34:05They can't write. They can't.
- 34:06They can't write anything else. Exactly.
- 34:08Hey, I sucked. I couldn't throw a fastball for
- 34:10a strike. They got on me early.
- 34:12I cost us the game. Peace out.
- 34:13See, you can't write anything else.
- 34:15Yeah. No, no follow up question to
- 34:17that. Sorry, peace.
- 34:18See you. It's like it's boring.
- 34:20They they're always said to be bored.
- 34:22And I hate it. Yeah.
- 34:24I always try to find rooms when we when.
- 34:26We've seen it in locker rooms too job, but we've seen it in
- 34:28locker rooms. I've seen between media and the
- 34:30players and just losing shit. I'm like own up and move on.
- 34:34It sucks. It is what it is.
- 34:37Just own up and move on. I don't know, it's just I don't,
- 34:41I don't feel like that's happening in sports general, but
- 34:44I know in in baseball, I just don't feel like that's
- 34:47happening. It's a shame.
- 34:48I blame team leaders, you know, leaders of the team.
- 34:52That's who I listen to even though the managers decisions.
- 34:54Yeah, unfortunately, we can go back and forth about what these
- 34:58teams are doing or what these teams should do.
- 35:01We're not the GM, we're not the owner.
- 35:03And obviously they're in a driver's seat.
- 35:05And unfortunately, the New York Yankees are run by not one, not
- 35:112, but probably 10 executives are in a roundtable kissing each
- 35:15other's asses. And we're not going to mention
- 35:17any names. But, you know, Jason, we really
- 35:20appreciate the time. You're fantastic.
- 35:22You do such a great job over there in Tampa.
- 35:24And when I get out there, I definitely want to check out the
- 35:26facility that you're you're building up over there.
- 35:28I think you're doing such a great job.
- 35:30And, and I know you're a busy guy and you're doing some big
- 35:34things out there. And we really appreciate the
- 35:35time, buddy. Jason, where you at?
- 35:37Where you at in Trampa? I'm just north of Steinbrenner
- 35:40Field, like about 10 minutes. Oh, OK.
- 35:44Here on Dale Mabry and just north I got AI, got a couple
- 35:47indoor cages. I have an ex major leaguer doing
- 35:51the pitching lessons. This guy named Mark Valdez.
- 35:53He played a little bit before us.
- 35:56And you know, I do the hitting and the fitting.
- 35:58Mark does the does the pitching. But I do, I work a lot up here
- 36:03of the approach, working on the approach.
- 36:06It doesn't really, because a lot of my a lot of my players are
- 36:10both hitters and pitchers. I want them to do both,
- 36:13especially the young ones. And I would say guys, it's
- 36:15there's a lot of similarities between pitching and hitting
- 36:18mentally and how you and how you go about how you go about your,
- 36:21you're at bat or you're, you know, your, your mound time,
- 36:26whatever. But yeah, so a lot of what I do
- 36:28is up here just dealing with confidence issues, how to how to
- 36:32try to deal with failure. Every time you step on the
- 36:34field, whether you're a pitcher, you're a hitter, there's going
- 36:36to be a negative result that's going to happen.
- 36:39And the guys that are on TV are the guys that are able to put
- 36:43those away as more than everybody else well and not let
- 36:46the. Jason, what we what we want it
- 36:48we want you to do is we need you to work with Speedies brain
- 36:51because we've been trying to force Speedy to shave those
- 36:55roots. He's he's not done that since
- 36:59the day he was, you know, became a man at 13 years old.
- 37:03We're trying to push him. I've you know, that Bush needs
- 37:07to be some cleaning over there. So we need some trimmers.
- 37:11We need maybe you can work with that kids brain so we can kind
- 37:14of force feed him to do something over there, man.
- 37:17I mean those bushes look like Wrigley feels his bushes.
- 37:20What? What do you think, Speedy?
- 37:22I'm not doing it on outside influence.
- 37:28Oh man. Anyways.
- 37:30Well, guys, guys, thank you for having me on.
- 37:32I appreciate it. Love to be on more so whatever.
- 37:36If you guys you guys need somebody, let me know.
- 37:38We, we would love it. We would love it, Jason.
- 37:41Best of luck. Jason Michaels, ladies and
- 37:44gentlemen, doing great things in Tampa.
- 37:46He's watching the Yankee game and watching the Yankees
- 37:48absolutely choke, as they always do.
- 37:51And as I have come out and said over the last two weeks, the
- 37:56Yankees should have been sellers.
- 37:58And boy am I going to look right about that anyways.
- 38:02And by the way, Keith, where are you?
- 38:04Keith wanted to bet me $100 that the Yankees were going to go to
- 38:07the ALCS. What drugs are you on?
- 38:09The Yankees aren't even going to make the playoffs.
- 38:12What a joke. Anyways, ladies and gentlemen,
- 38:15we call this Speedy 6 Pack of the Week.
- 38:19Let's have a sixer. Hey, who wants to play Drink the
- 38:22Beer? It's time for the Speedy 6 pack
- 38:25of the Week Pass Liquor. Speedy, Are you ready to crack
- 38:35open tonight's 6 pack? Athletes.
- 38:39Yeah, we'll be talking about a bunch of those that.
- 38:41Are Jabba likes my stream cocktail?
- 38:44All right, here we go. Number six.
- 38:46All right. We're going to start this trade
- 38:48deadline edition with the one of the more aggressive teams of the
- 38:51deadline. We're starting with the Padres
- 38:53who traded for Ryan O'hearn, Ramon Lauriano from the Orioles,
- 38:56and then the big storyline giving up the number 3 prospect
- 38:59in baseball in Leo Devries for Mason Miller in a very
- 39:03aggressive move. Anyone thoughts to the Padres?
- 39:07Horrible, absolutely horrible. I do not know what the Padres
- 39:11are doing. I know he's a relief pitcher.
- 39:13I was at my barbershop and I was sitting all these guys, the
- 39:17barbershop is called home Run. So they they're big baseball
- 39:20fans and I'm sitting there, they're all Dominicans and
- 39:22they're talking about, well, I mean, a top end relief pitcher
- 39:26for a top 3 prospect is worth it depending on the pitcher.
- 39:31You don't even know if that guy is going to be there next year.
- 39:33The Padres like to trade away pieces and you're trading away.
- 39:36You're the third best prospect in all of baseball.
- 39:39I made no sense. They gave up.
- 39:41If I'm not mistaken, they gave up, I think 7 of their top 12
- 39:46prospects of their of their organization, their farm system.
- 39:50It made no sense. On the couple of trades that
- 39:52they made, it made no sense. A horrible move.
- 39:54I'm not saying that he's not a good pitcher.
- 39:57I'm not saying that he's a, he's not one of the best closers in
- 40:00baseball. It's just I, I just doesn't make
- 40:03any sense right now. Are the Padres really a
- 40:05contender? Are they really contender?
- 40:09I'll tell you how it makes less sense, Jabba.
- 40:11You, you trade the number three overall prospect in baseball and
- 40:15then you take that guy, you got Mason Miller and put him as the
- 40:18setup man. You already have a closer who's
- 40:21leading the league in base, in baseball in saves and Robert
- 40:25Suarez with 32 saves. Miller, you know, played for the
- 40:28A's, didn't get as many save opportunities, throws over 102
- 40:32miles an hour, one of the three or four hardest throwing guys in
- 40:36baseball. But Jabba, since when do you
- 40:39give up the number three overall guy and a bunch of other pieces
- 40:42for a set up man? It's I mean, I think more so
- 40:46that they looked at him as a high leverage guy, but we've
- 40:49seen what AJ Preler's he's notorious for this.
- 40:52He'll make any move, do whatever he wants.
- 40:54But we also seen he's made crazy moves and have they won?
- 40:57No. So it's I mean, it was he would
- 41:02devise went from untouchable to smell you later.
- 41:04For a guy you're not even going to use to close the game when
- 41:07you have the best. I wouldn't say he's the best
- 41:10closer. He has the best number most
- 41:11saves right now. I wouldn't I wouldn't say he's
- 41:13the best closer. But also I I can't say that in
- 41:17terms of I don't watch a lot of West Coast baseball.
- 41:20So I don't see him as much. I see the the highlights.
- 41:23So I don't get to see it as much as to to have a very, very
- 41:26valued opinion. But I can look at the numbers
- 41:29like everybody else and be like, well, he's he's doing pretty
- 41:31good on this side. But I it's just it's tough to
- 41:34get a guy out of that caliber and Mason and and it's kind of
- 41:37like, OK, yeah, I'm going to pitch in high leverage
- 41:39situations. But I'm so used to being the
- 41:41closure guy now. It's like it's kind of a hit to
- 41:44an ego. We all have them.
- 41:45So it's how he responds. And what do they do?
- 41:48I mean, they've made plenty of moves before and it hasn't
- 41:51really paid off. So I guess we'll see what
- 41:53happens. Errol, just before we move on
- 41:56Errol, I said AJ Preller what what is sicko?
- 42:00When we get to the trade deadline every year, that guy
- 42:02just keeps it interesting. I don't know if there's another
- 42:05guy in in baseball that we've seen.
- 42:07How does he still have a job? How does he still have a job?
- 42:09Because the owners let him do whatever he wants.
- 42:12It's. Pretty wild.
- 42:13It's pretty wild. The Mariners GM is.
- 42:17He's a close second. Speedy, let's go.
- 42:21To #5 well, I. Was going to segue into the
- 42:23National League, but now Java, we're going to get to the
- 42:25Seattle Mariners. Thanks.
- 42:26The Java. They were one of the more
- 42:28aggressive teams I thought were more positive and they get two
- 42:30big bats with a Eugenio Suarez, who was probably the big power
- 42:33bat at the deadline and also Josh Naylor from the
- 42:35Diamondbacks. Also in the American League
- 42:37West, the Astros get Carlos Carrillo back like Errol
- 42:39mentioned and Jesus Sanchez, a good trade for a youngster for
- 42:41the Marlins and then Texas trading for Merrill Kelly, but
- 42:44giving up a lot 59 and 13 in their system 3 pitching
- 42:47prospects. Thoughts to the AL West deadline
- 42:49moves? I, I think all three teams are
- 42:52going to be fighting for the two playoff spots because the, I
- 42:56thought the American League East was just going to pull away the
- 42:59way the Blue Jays are playing over the last couple of weeks,
- 43:02even the Red Sox. But the Yankees have taken a
- 43:05tail back, a tailspin back. I think the Red Sox, even though
- 43:08they made some moves, I don't think they're ready to make a
- 43:11run. And the Blue Jays might be the
- 43:13only team that's going to sneak into the playoffs because
- 43:16they're going to win the division.
- 43:17As far as the that division. I, I think that Texas can make
- 43:21the playoffs. Seattle can make the playoffs
- 43:22and used to can make the players.
- 43:24All three teams could make the playoffs.
- 43:26Seattle is a question. I, I, I, they always seem to to
- 43:31fizzle out. No matter what they make over
- 43:34the last couple of years in the second, second-half of the
- 43:36season, they fizzle out and they're not the same team they
- 43:38were before the before the trade deadline and before the All Star
- 43:42break. I want to see Seattle take off
- 43:45in the last 50 games of the season.
- 43:47If they do that, Seattle could be very, very dangerous.
- 43:49I I already told you, Texas, if they make the playoffs with the
- 43:53the three pitchers they have now, they could be as Dom and,
- 43:56and we all know what Bruce Bocchi brings to the table.
- 43:59So I I think they have the best manager in baseball.
- 44:02So quality team as we see what they're doing to the Yankees
- 44:05tonight they were down 3 nothing.
- 44:07And they come all the way back against Max Freed, the Yankees
- 44:09best pitcher. So it makes me sick to my
- 44:12stomach. I was kind of happy the Yankees
- 44:14didn't go after Suarez. Errol, you said it at the, you
- 44:17know. He's not a good defensive
- 44:19player. That's that's the problem,
- 44:21right? And he's got real hot, you know,
- 44:23with the for the power numbers, having a career year power
- 44:26hitting, he's probably going to get the 50 home runs this season
- 44:29pretty easily. You know, I don't think he's
- 44:31going to get the 60. But look, he now get to put him
- 44:35with Cal Raleigh. You got to give them credit.
- 44:37They don't have the hugest budget.
- 44:39They didn't give up a lot for Suarez.
- 44:41I, I, I think it's a smart, smart moves.
- 44:43I just don't know if it's enough with the arms.
- 44:46Kind of been off and on hurt all year, you know?
- 44:49I like what they did and the moves that they made, but I I
- 44:52agree fish, I think, you know, Brian moves awesome, but it's
- 44:56it's hard with the injuries that they've had, like going into it
- 44:59it, you know, just to carry what the the team on your back.
- 45:02I mean, they have, they have some quality arms, don't get me
- 45:04wrong, but I just, I think if they they're going to be a
- 45:08little short on that end, I mean.
- 45:11It's going to be Gilbert and Kirby, you know, can they stay
- 45:14healthy, right? You know, this is the first year
- 45:16the two of them have gotten hurt.
- 45:18They need those guys and they they can't do it without them.
- 45:21So it's really that's going to be the tail of the tape for them
- 45:23when they get to the playoffs. Yeah, and Louise, I mean, Luis
- 45:26Castillo is obviously he's, you know, he's pitching 2 at 3.
- 45:28Not, I mean, record's not great, but he's keeping them in games
- 45:31and doing that. So they've got the ability.
- 45:34I just, I, if they can stay healthy long enough, they're
- 45:36going to have, they're going to score runs.
- 45:38So it, it's going to be interesting.
- 45:41We didn't think the ALS was going to be as crazy as it is,
- 45:44but it this is what makes baseball fun.
- 45:47All right, here we go. Number. 4.
- 45:49Oh, now go to my National League, 1-2 teams that I wasn't
- 45:51sure if they did enough, the Brewers and the Cubs in the NL
- 45:54Central. The Brewers, not a lot of not a
- 45:56lot of offense, just really a backup catcher.
- 45:58They got a couple relievers and the Cubs, they traded for a few
- 46:01pitchers, but I was thinking maybe a bigger swing for one of
- 46:03those starting pitchers. Did not happen to you.
- 46:06Think these two teams did enough to show themselves compared to
- 46:08the Dodgers, the Mets and the Phillies are all Dodgers weren't
- 46:11very aggressive, but the very talented, the Mets and the
- 46:12Phillies were aggressive. I think both teams are going to
- 46:16make the playoffs. I, I don't know what these guys
- 46:19are going to be and how they fit with the rosters.
- 46:21Milwaukee right now, they have a tremendous pitching staff as
- 46:25they always do, and they're getting timely hitting.
- 46:28So Milwaukee and Milwaukee's putting up numbers.
- 46:30They're, they're, they're hitting for runs, they're
- 46:33hitting for, they're hitting a clip, they're hitting for a clip
- 46:35and, and they're pitching. And as far as the Cubs are
- 46:37concerned, I'm very, I'm shocked.
- 46:39The Cubs are as good as they have been this season.
- 46:42I thought the Cubs were going to fluctuate and and not even make
- 46:45the playoffs, but it seems like they're they're slowly but
- 46:49surely going to be A-Team to be to be reckoned with in the
- 46:53playoffs. I think both teams make the
- 46:54playoffs and both teams are dangerous, both of them.
- 46:56So. The the Cubs don't have a lot of
- 47:00pitching. They lost Justin Steele
- 47:02beginning of the year. It's to Tommy John and Minog has
- 47:05been hurt and off and on. Tyone's hurt again.
- 47:08They they just don't have the staff.
- 47:10They went and got Michael Soroka, who is an analytical
- 47:14darling this year. He's one of those guys.
- 47:16You see it every year. He's got like a 5 ERA, but he
- 47:19should have a 3 1/2. So he's he's got the biggest
- 47:23discrepancy in baseball. He's been the unluckiest
- 47:26pitcher. Here's those advanced stats.
- 47:27You hate Errol, but this is where you make money.
- 47:29The Cubs saw it. They went and got this guy that
- 47:32I expect him to be one, one of the better starting pitcher
- 47:35acquisitions of the deadline. But with the Cubs, especially
- 47:38Tucker, as a rental, a lot of people thought they were going
- 47:40to do a lot more. Yeah, I mean in Seroka pitch
- 47:43tonight, but only pitched 2 inning.
- 47:44So, you know, it's I, I just don't, I got a really good buddy
- 47:49who's a huge, huge Cubs fan and he's like, we didn't do enough.
- 47:52This sucks. We need more hitting and
- 47:53pitching and we're not gonna get it.
- 47:55So I don't like the Cubs cuz everybody's like Cubs homers.
- 48:00When they actually won, they could name like 2 people and
- 48:03weren't really fans. I really do so.
- 48:06I like them. In the Midwest, they hadn't won
- 48:08anything. Then they won and now people
- 48:10were supposedly were Cubs fans. And I'm like, shut up.
- 48:13Name me so and so and they have a clue.
- 48:15I'm like, get out of here. They have the same thing with
- 48:17the Royals. They have the high entire All
- 48:19Star infield because they had to like stat stuff.
- 48:21Addison Russell in the voting. I like the Cubs better than the
- 48:24Padres right now. If you would ask me right now,
- 48:26who am I going to bet on making the playoffs, the Padres or the
- 48:30Cubs? I'm taking the Cubs.
- 48:32I I'm going to go with the Cubs. Yeah, They don't.
- 48:34I, I agree with Fish. They have injuries that they
- 48:36have to contend with, but I think they have obviously a very
- 48:39good lineup and, and to me, they have a bona, they have a bona
- 48:43fide middle, middle of the lineup that's giving them the
- 48:46the power. Kyle Tucker is, is an MVP
- 48:48candidate this year. So I think they got a tremendous
- 48:51team. I I still think they're, I don't
- 48:53know if they win a World Series, but again, we see teams win
- 48:56World Series. The Texas Rangers in Arizona
- 48:58were in the World Series a couple of years ago.
- 49:00Why can't the Cubs do it? So I again, the Cubs haven't
- 49:04been a World Series in a long time and they haven't won a
- 49:06World Series since then. So and they've only won one
- 49:10World Series in 100 years. So I mean, let's let's see what
- 49:14the Cubs are going to do. I still think the Cubs are team
- 49:17to be reckoned with. Remember, they're they're 21
- 49:20games over 500. I mean, that's a pretty damn
- 49:22good team, man. I don't know why anybody thinks
- 49:24differently. So.
- 49:26Here we go, number. 3. All right, all American League
- 49:29to finish it off, we'll go back to the American League East.
- 49:31You guys talked about the Yankees for a while, so we'll go
- 49:33to the Red Sox and the Blue Jays.
- 49:34The Red Sox got Dustin May and Mets legend Steven Max at the
- 49:37trade deadline of sure of their bullpen.
- 49:39Blue Blue Jays get a couple of relievers as well.
- 49:41Sir Anthony Dominguez from the Phillies, Louis Varland who is a
- 49:43very underrated pitcher this year from the Twins, and Shane
- 49:46Beaver from Goodies Guardians. I'll tell you this, both the Red
- 49:54Sox and the Blue Jays don't scare me.
- 49:56I think the Blue Jays are the best team in the American League
- 49:58East. I think they win the division.
- 50:01I, even though I don't trust them, I don't think anybody, and
- 50:05I know Yankee fans are going to hate me on this.
- 50:07I thought the Yankees would have going to pull away early into
- 50:11the season, which they were, and then they let the Boston Red
- 50:14Sox, the Tampa Bay Rays, and then the Blue Jays come back and
- 50:18catch up to them. And now the Yankees are playing
- 50:20terrible baseball and the Blue Jays have played the best
- 50:23baseball ball in the last past two months.
- 50:26I just think right now the Blue Jays for some reason are a
- 50:30different team than they were last year.
- 50:32Remember last year with the talent that they had and
- 50:35everybody said this is the team, but this is the year that the
- 50:38Blue Jays are going to pull away and and make it, you know,
- 50:40surprise everybody them in the Baltimore Orioles.
- 50:43Well, the Baltimore Orioles dip this year because like I said,
- 50:46they had no pitching and the Blue Jays, I don't know, it got
- 50:49gained confidence after they gave Guerrero that kind of
- 50:51money. I just think the Blue Jays are
- 50:54the best team in the American League East.
- 50:55The Red Sox, they're young and I, I think they're a year away
- 51:00from being maybe a contender in that division.
- 51:03I, I just, I, I don't know. I, I don't trust the blue.
- 51:05I don't trust the Red Sox. I do trust the Blue Jays.
- 51:08I think the Blue Jays are the only team that come out of the
- 51:10American League East. I think Bichette having the year
- 51:14he's had, yeah, has been really the thing for the Blue Jays.
- 51:18Yeah, he's quietly done it with like, you know, his hits too.
- 51:21Like, you know, he'd struggle a little bit, but like, he's
- 51:24quietly leading the league in hits right now.
- 51:26Show me the money, Show me the money.
- 51:28He's certainly, you know, he's not the defensive player that
- 51:31they thought he was going to be. I mean, that knee injury had a
- 51:34few years ago. He's never been the same athlete
- 51:36since it, but he's got an 800, he's over 800 OPS, He's hitting
- 51:40300. He gets on base, he's got a
- 51:42little pop again. They're DH ING him some to keep
- 51:45him healthy. It's smart.
- 51:47And they got this new guy, Addison Barger.
- 51:50He's the darling of analytical people around the around
- 51:53baseball. He hits the ball harder than
- 51:56anybody. You know one of those types of
- 51:58guys. But he just lights it all up in
- 52:00red on Savant and he's now hitting behind Vladimir Guerrero
- 52:04Junior, giving him some protection.
- 52:06They find these guys and Shane Bieber, if you remember, before
- 52:10he got hurt, was arguably the best pitcher in baseball.
- 52:13It's been a few years, but if they get 80% of that out of him,
- 52:17that's a pretty good player. So that's a little scary to me
- 52:21as a. Yankee, I think you have a
- 52:22better chance of getting more out of Max Scherzer than Shane
- 52:24Bieber. I don't know man, Bieber's been
- 52:27like lights out in rehab, you know, 8 strikeouts and like 3
- 52:32and 2/3 as he's coming back. That's AAA buddy.
- 52:35That's not the major. You're right, you're right.
- 52:36And I know Louise Hill did the same thing and then he got
- 52:39shelled in his first outing, right?
- 52:40So, But look, if the Yankees are going to play a crap, doesn't
- 52:44really matter. Doesn't really matter, Speedy.
- 52:48#2 all. Right, so double AL Central,
- 52:50double dosed to round it out, we'll go to the Tigers.
- 52:52A lot of people thought they an underwhelming trade deadline
- 52:54trade for five pitchers, Charlie Morton and Chris Paddock, 2
- 52:57starters and then Kyle Finnegan, a hot reliever, Paul Seawall and
- 53:00Raphael Montero and Cody higher. Did they do enough?
- 53:03Did they need to do more offense?
- 53:05Or are they doing enough amidst their skid?
- 53:07They're kind of on, right? Now, I think Detroit is
- 53:09positioned very, very well. They're running away with their
- 53:12division. Cleveland not catching them.
- 53:14Kansas City is not. Both teams aren't going to make
- 53:17the playoffs. I, I think they're, you could
- 53:19argue they're the best team in the American League.
- 53:23Now. Have they played that way since
- 53:25the All Star break? Not really.
- 53:27They've been up and down, but in the last 10 games, they're six
- 53:30and four. I think their offense is enough.
- 53:33I, I think their pitching squad, I mean school ball is, is
- 53:36sensational. I, I think they have a
- 53:38tremendous and, and they added Charlie Morton.
- 53:40Charlie Morton is a great playoff.
- 53:42Pitcher that's my favorite one like and it was it was late when
- 53:46they did it and first of all Charlie, Billy Morton is salt of
- 53:49the earth one of the nicest human beings in the planet.
- 53:51He's 42 I think right now and I that for me was a great pick up
- 53:57just for like morale and just the type of person he is.
- 54:01I love that for the tigers, like the energy that, you know, scuba
- 54:05brings. And then you've got Charlie
- 54:07Morton, who you can't tell if his dog just died or he punched
- 54:09somebody out. Like it's awesome.
- 54:12I love that dude. And if I, I root for everybody
- 54:15to be successful. But when, when he throws, I, I
- 54:17love rooting for that guy because he's just such a, such a
- 54:20great. Playoff wise, playoff wise, I
- 54:23think it's a great move because Charlie Morton, go look at his
- 54:26record in the playoffs, he's absolutely lights out and now
- 54:29you have to go school. If you play in A7 game series,
- 54:33you have to, you got to go through school, school ball
- 54:35twice, maybe even three times and then you got to go through
- 54:38Charlie Morton twice. Scary.
- 54:41And Morton, if you look at his numbers, they're absolutely
- 54:43ridiculous in the playoffs. Ridiculous.
- 54:45By the way, Charlie Morton is the most famous alum of my high
- 54:48school. Oh, really?
- 54:50Yeah. Really.
- 54:50Yep. That's dope.
- 54:53Or like covering him when he got drafted by the Braves and I was
- 54:55like that he covers like this great pitcher, good journeyman
- 54:58pitcher for a while. Finnegan got the save tonight
- 55:01for the Tigers. That was probably the to me,
- 55:05that's the biggest move of the deadline for them.
- 55:07Their pen was not good. No, they were trotting out Tommy
- 55:10Kaneley as closer. Sometimes Will Vest, who's
- 55:13probably not a closer. They didn't really have it.
- 55:16They addressed it. They got three guys to put in
- 55:18the back end of that bullpen. I think that was smart.
- 55:21That's where they were weak. I think that's part of why you
- 55:23saw them falling apart. The back end of the rotation,
- 55:26having to use the bullpen. You get Morden and you get a
- 55:28more bullpen help. They should be right back where
- 55:31they were supposed to be and speedy last one.
- 55:34Number one. We'll talk more about this one,
- 55:36and I call it a pen as well, but the Minnesota Twins traded 9
- 55:39total players, was the second most ever at the trade deadline,
- 55:41only to the Cubs in 2021 who traded 11, and Joe Ryan was
- 55:45pranked into a fake trade, believing he was traded to the
- 55:48Red Sox when he really wasn't. Minnesota knows their season is
- 55:53over, so they're trying to rebuild an organization that has
- 55:59at one point they had Paul Molitor as their manager and
- 56:03this team was a contender and then all of a sudden fall flat
- 56:07on their face. They haven't won a World Series
- 56:09since Kirby Bucket. Okay.
- 56:11I mean, this is this is a dumb organization.
- 56:14They've made so many mistakes. I I'm surprised they fell off
- 56:18the way they did this year as quick as they did.
- 56:20And it it happened so fast when in the beginning of the season,
- 56:24you could argue they were going to make the playoffs.
- 56:27They might. They were in first place for a
- 56:29significant amount of time. I think for three or four weeks
- 56:32they were in first place. And then all of a sudden Detroit
- 56:34just got hot. And then they completely fell
- 56:36flat on their face. I mean, and by the way, they're
- 56:39the only team that gave Carlos Correa the money that they gave
- 56:41them. So just a stupid organization.
- 56:44Dumb. Well, in the twins, they gave
- 56:47them up and they're still paying 30, I think 33 million of it.
- 56:50Yeah, that's just stupid. There's a dumb organization.
- 56:53They're one of the worst Rd. teams in the league.
- 56:56They're 22 and 36 on the road, 30 and 24 at home.
- 57:00They don't travel well. They're players.
- 57:03I mean, they're a bunch of platoon bats that they try to
- 57:06shake up. And they'll play the Yankees and
- 57:08sweep them, too. That's what's gonna happen.
- 57:10Do they play? They play the Twins one more
- 57:12time this year. They get a couple of weeks.
- 57:14I heard they play really well against Savage teams, but the
- 57:18rest of the teams in the league, not very good.
- 57:21It's a shame they were they started the year hot.
- 57:23Like they were one of the top teams in the Central early in
- 57:26the season when everyone was kind of lumped together and they
- 57:29fell off in the worst way. And it's just, it's just pretty
- 57:33sad when you give up, you know, as many guys on your starting
- 57:37roster as you do in the trade deadline.
- 57:38It's like ownership doesn't believe in you at all.
- 57:43And that is the six pack. I am.
- 57:46I am so tired. I'm so tired of watching this
- 57:50Yankee team. It makes me miserable.
- 57:53It makes me miserable watching this team.
- 57:55I don't know why anybody. And I, I guarantee you Yankee
- 57:58fans are, oh, we're up five, four.
- 58:00Trust me, guys, the Yankees probably are going to lose this
- 58:03game one way or another. They'll choke.
- 58:05And then you're going to hear something.
- 58:07Oh, it's Aaron Boone's fault because he brought in the wrong
- 58:10relief pitcher. It's just, it's so stupid.
- 58:13I, I don't get it anymore. Just.
- 58:16Stop freeze. Already over 100 pitch.
- 58:18I know it's. Fred is really struggling with
- 58:20control. He can't.
- 58:22He's not. He doesn't look.
- 58:23Right. You know what's you know what's
- 58:24going to come. It's it the the topic
- 58:26conversation is going to be the blister again.
- 58:29It's absolutely going to be the blister.
- 58:31And I will, I will say to his to like, and I've never experienced
- 58:35this, thank goodness, but I've seen it.
- 58:37And it sucks because sometimes like people will get them under
- 58:41their nail. And so it's like you got to be
- 58:44cares. You can't cut it and you got to
- 58:45like it's, it's it's a real thing.
- 58:48Like it, it people think it's like, oh, you're soft, but like
- 58:51it, it sucks. Like my fingers would get so
- 58:53callous. You know if like you're trying
- 58:54to type on your phone, you got. Sausage fingers.
- 58:57I don't even know how you hold a bad baseball, I mean.
- 59:00You I threw 100 suck my Dick. That's exactly how I did it.
- 59:06Flip, flip that, Tommy. But yeah, it's just that it
- 59:11that's, I mean, it sucks. And if it's under his nail,
- 59:15there's nothing you can do about it either.
- 59:18Like you can pop it with like a like what do you even do like?
- 59:22Nothing. Literally, they, Gino said.
- 59:25Stick it in somebody'd butt hole.
- 59:27That usually sticks. That was one of the old school
- 59:29trainer methods though. That was one of the old school
- 59:31trainer methods. I never tried it.
- 59:34I don't know. I I might have to do that with
- 59:37my. That's that's a different kind
- 59:39of inside baseball. Yeah, for.
- 59:41Sure. So yeah, just just stick it up
- 59:43there. It'll be.
- 59:43Good. So I, I've been, I've been
- 59:45dieting so the only sugars I really I've been eating is
- 59:48fruit. So I go to meat farms to get
- 59:50myself like, you know, a bowl of, you know, fruit, the little
- 59:55pineapple, little cantaloupe and all that other stuff.
- 59:58So today I went and I got myself my fruit ball and I open up, you
- 1:00:04know, the plastic, the way they like, like strapping.
- 1:00:06So I'm pulling and I'm trying to pull it.
- 1:00:08I RIP the hell out of my finger and I start bleeding all over my
- 1:00:12car and I go inside. I go inside, you know, to
- 1:00:16Northwell and I tell him I got a Boo Boo.
- 1:00:18And they look at her like, oh, you got a Boo Boo.
- 1:00:21You want me to blow on it? I'm like, it's bleeding.
- 1:00:23Gushing blood. It's like stop, Errol, you don't
- 1:00:25need a guys. It is is this not deep?
- 1:00:29Am I am I am I lying about that? Isn't that deep?
- 1:00:32It's almost to the bone. And they're like, oh, you got a
- 1:00:34Boo Boo. I had me baseball players.
- 1:00:36I got a blister. Give me a break.
- 1:00:41I I know job. I know I never pitched a
- 1:00:43baseball. I'll I'll take I didn't I didn't
- 1:00:46say all right, all right, listen, I've never thrown a
- 1:00:50baseball in the major leagues. Okay, so I will, I will
- 1:00:54certainly take in that thought. But hey, listen, I'm making $32
- 1:01:01million a year. I'm not crying about it.
- 1:01:03I'm I'm starting myself out there and throwing the goddamn
- 1:01:06ball. Oh, I'm he and he is, Yeah.
- 1:01:08I mean, he's not the one saying. Yeah, I know.
- 1:01:10I got you. I got you.
- 1:01:11Yeah. And I and I stand for him
- 1:01:13because I give him some credit because he's going out there and
- 1:01:16he's not. He's not crying about anything.
- 1:01:18You know, he's not going to make that excuse.
- 1:01:19But we've seen a lot of pitchers go out there over the years and,
- 1:01:23well, I got a blister on my pinky and I can't grab the ball.
- 1:01:27Yeah, give me a break. Cry me a river.
- 1:01:29I like that think Spotify and all the Apple downloads.
