- 0:32I miss my wife. I miss her voice, I miss her
- 0:39heart. I miss her presence.
- 0:43Forgive. Me for not.
- 0:44Appreciating her father. I need your help.
- 7:04Aloha, Good afternoon. Welcome to the Men Helping Men
- 7:07radio talk show here, joined again by our executive producer,
- 7:11Mr. Brandon Ortiz and Pastor Doug Chong.
- 7:14Christ Built Ministries, the founder of Men Helping Men and
- 7:18author and songwriter of all the amazing music that we get to
- 7:21listen to here on the station. Doug, let's talk today about
- 7:26going back to the very basics. Go back to the beginning.
- 7:29Why? What is our purpose here, Doug?
- 7:31What? What are we created for, Doug?
- 7:34Kev, going back to Adam and Eve, why did God create Adam, husband
- 7:39and wife? Like you heard that song?
- 7:41Why do we have children? Children in our own image, Half
- 7:45of me, half of my wife, very, very special.
- 7:49So God created us in his own image or created Adam in his own
- 7:54image in the beginning to have a daily intimate relationship with
- 7:57him in the Garden of Eden. Now when sin came into play that
- 8:02separated God and Adam and Eve. Because God is holy he cannot
- 8:07have pride, rebelliousness around him.
- 8:11So 2 choices A He could have sent them with Satan and his
- 8:15demons to hell or he could have redeemed them.
- 8:18He chose to send his son down here to die for our sins.
- 8:22Adam and Eve sin and our sins. So to do what?
- 8:26To reestablish his intimate daily relationship with Adam and
- 8:31Eve, which he had already, but for us is to establish a
- 8:36relationship with us so we can get to know Him.
- 8:40He can get to know us, and that is grace.
- 8:44The grace is unmerited favorites, giving us what we
- 8:47don't deserve, giving us an opportunity to get to know God
- 8:54the Father. Now, without Jesus dying, there
- 8:57is no gateway, there's no bridge to get to know God the Father.
- 9:03So going to church for 20 plus years is confusing.
- 9:09Faith is by grace through faith, not by works.
- 9:12What do I do? How do I know if I'm obeying
- 9:14God's commands from the heart because of faith or because I
- 9:17don't want to go to hell? I don't know.
- 9:20We follow the speed limits here. We follow the law because we
- 9:22don't want to go to jail. We don't want to get ticketed.
- 9:25It's not because we love the law or we love the lawmakers.
- 9:30It's we're taught to obey or else.
- 9:33And that's not how we apply God's word to our lives.
- 9:38That's why Jesus said people came up to him.
- 9:41Matthew 721 through 23. I prophesied in your name.
- 9:44I went to church, I did church functions.
- 9:48I had the Angel tree thing. I handed all presents to the
- 9:51prisoners children. Jesus says I never knew you away
- 9:55from you, evildoer, meaning I didn't have an intimate daily
- 10:00relationship with you. See if the covenant, Covenant is
- 10:04agreement. Testament means covenant, which
- 10:06means agreement. The agreement is I'm sitting on
- 10:09death row, let's say death by crucifixion.
- 10:12Jesus comes to me and says, you want me to take your place?
- 10:17I'm going to say yeah, of course.
- 10:18What's the catch? The catch is you got to take my
- 10:22place. Jesus, this is the covenant.
- 10:24This is the agreement. I take your place on the cross
- 10:27and die for you. You deny yourself and take up
- 10:30your cross daily and fall on my father, building an intimate
- 10:34relationship with him because that's what I did.
- 10:36Jesus says every day throughout the day, I need you to do the
- 10:40same thing. He's never going to tell you to
- 10:42do anything to hurt yourself or hurt anybody else.
- 10:45He's going to heal the hurt in your heart and replace it with
- 10:48His unconditional love so you can be a better husband to your
- 10:53wife, a better father to your children, a better person.
- 10:57Be the person that God the Father created you to be.
- 11:02Yeah, Amen, Doug and Doug, talk to us about how do we do that.
- 11:07I know that because a lot of, you know, Christians out there
- 11:11have some kind of a Mystic idea about how they can build this
- 11:14relationship with God. But talk to us about the
- 11:17practicality of how we build our relationship at Christ Built
- 11:21Ministries here. There's a very, very fundamental
- 11:23way of doing that. Yeah, remember, God judges the
- 11:27heart. So what should come out of our
- 11:30heart is Lovejoy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
- 11:33faithness, gentleness, self-control, not division,
- 11:37anger, rage, unforgiveness, keeping records of wrongs,
- 11:43punishment. That's what's usually in our
- 11:46hearts when we get hurt. Can we cope?
- 11:50There's no way I can get rid of it without God.
- 11:53So when I get hurt, I just take. No, I used to just take note of
- 11:56it. One day, you know, I'm going to
- 11:59get my revenge list. Like the Kung Fu movies back in
- 12:02the day. They always are looking for
- 12:05revenge. And those are my favorite shows.
- 12:09But you know what? My heart had to harden.
- 12:11It got harder and harder. So it didn't hurt me as much.
- 12:15I acted like I didn't care and I made myself not care.
- 12:19So you don't care for the things you're supposed to care for.
- 12:22You don't care when your, your, your child is hurting and
- 12:25they're they're scared. You tell them tough up, come on,
- 12:29be a man or come on, stop crying or I'll give you something to
- 12:32cry about. Instead of being sympathetic and
- 12:36empathetic towards them, showing them love, meeting them there,
- 12:41helping them through it, teaching them how to connect to
- 12:43God. So those are the problems that
- 12:47we have when we try to cope without coming to the Lord.
- 12:51Exactly, Doug. And, you know, we can't just
- 12:54come once a week or once once a month or, you know, we often
- 12:58talk to Doug about, you know, learning a new language.
- 13:01You know what that process looks like.
- 13:04You can't just think that you're going to learn something new by
- 13:07just doing it once a week again, once a month.
- 13:10There's a you have to apply yourself.
- 13:12And that's the thing about learning about the heart of God
- 13:16and learning about what it takes to become Christ built in
- 13:20building that relationship so that we can actually start to
- 13:22begin to love each other way. God intended us to love each
- 13:26other and to forgive each other and to take those hurts out of
- 13:28our heart, become all that He has designed us to be, as it
- 13:32were. Correct, Doug.
- 13:33Yeah, correct gifts. So it's just like you don't have
- 13:36to be a mathematician. Let's say you spend 2 hours a
- 13:39day, every day reading God's word, opening up your heart,
- 13:43praying for the Holy Spirit to teach you and to help you to
- 13:46know his character. Remember his, his Bible is his
- 13:49autobiography. A biography is something that
- 13:52somebody wrote about you. An autobiography is what you
- 13:55wrote about yourself. So that's God's testimony, so to
- 13:59speak. So the Holy Spirit is helping
- 14:01you understand while you sacrifice your time and read and
- 14:06listen for the Lord to explain what he loves, what he hates,
- 14:10how he feels when Israel turned their back on him.
- 14:14Brandon does reads once twice a week, 2 hours at each time.
- 14:19So Sundays and Wednesdays like going to church and maybe a
- 14:22Bible study at the end of the year.
- 14:26Who would be closer to God? Who would be transformed, you or
- 14:30Brandon? Common sense, right?
- 14:33Doug just got to show up and, and, and again, I use that, that
- 14:37keyword Doug sacrifice, sacrificing.
- 14:41What is it that we have to sacrifice Doug in order to build
- 14:44that daily intimate relationship with God?
- 14:47And the same thing we would have to sacrifice if we had type 2
- 14:49diabetes. It's the way we eat, our eating
- 14:53habits, exercising, same thing we would have to sacrifice if we
- 14:57wanted to learn a different language, our time.
- 15:00Now, if English is my first language, which it is, if I
- 15:03wanted to learn Taiwanese or Mandarin, I asked AI what if I
- 15:09practice twice a week for two hours a session, Sundays and
- 15:14Wednesdays, and I don't use the language the rest of the week?
- 15:18How long will it take me to learn the language?
- 15:21She said. With a tonal language like
- 15:24Taiwanese or Mandarin, you'll never learn the language.
- 15:28You have to do it every single day and it's the sacrifice.
- 15:33Even if I was a multi billionaire like Bezos, What if
- 15:36I give you 2 billion? Can you teach me the language?
- 15:39No, it's the sacrifice. That's why it's not by works.
- 15:43You cannot earn it. It's by the sacrifice of our
- 15:48time, of our heart, of our will. Yeah.
- 15:52Exactly, Doug. And there's a practical way also
- 15:55about how we're to read God's Word and apply that to our life,
- 16:00of course, strategically knowing, again, talking about
- 16:04the autobiography of God, his learning, his character,
- 16:06learning what he loves, what he hates.
- 16:08And that only comes with spending time with him on a
- 16:12daily basis, learning how to do a practicality of how to
- 16:16interpret God's Word exegetically, hermeneutically,
- 16:20and then how to how to apply that to our lives on a daily
- 16:22basis. And when we do that, we begin to
- 16:25see the love of God for us through his examples of the Old
- 16:29Testament. You know, if you follow these
- 16:31commands and you follow the what, what you're supposed to do
- 16:34is it's not that it works again, Doug.
- 16:36It's out of building that relationship that once we
- 16:39understand that and we know that those they're there for a
- 16:42reason, because it's his love for us.
- 16:45Correct, Doug. Correct.
- 16:46Correct, Kev. So it's like it's like being an
- 16:49architect, OK, I want you to build this building here.
- 16:52And you look at the complexity of the building.
- 16:54You're saying, OK, how would I ever build that building?
- 16:58But it's spending time with the architect who happens to be your
- 17:00dad. Let's say your dad is looking
- 17:03for an ulterior motive to spend time with you.
- 17:06So as you spend time with him, he teaches you the engineering
- 17:11background of how to build this building, how to write
- 17:14blueprints. So little by little you start to
- 17:17understand who your dad is and how to build that building.
- 17:22That's God the Father. My, my heart is hurt.
- 17:26Our heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.
- 17:28Who can understand that? Jeremiah 17, nine Mark 721
- 17:32through 23. There's a list that Jesus goes
- 17:34over with how evil our heart is, how hurt our heart is.
- 17:38So as we spend time with God the Father and we try now to obey
- 17:44his commands, but we'll fall short, giving thanks in all
- 17:46circumstances, considering a pure joint.
- 17:49When we face trials of many kinds, when we have problems,
- 17:53the nature in us, the sinful nature, we get upset.
- 17:57We don't want to be uncomfortable.
- 17:59We don't want to have to face problems.
- 18:01We already have enough problems in our own mind, right?
- 18:05But the difference is we get to do it with God, learning how to
- 18:10do it with Him. Jesus has come to me, all you
- 18:12who are weary and burden, and I will give you rest.
- 18:16Take my elk upon you. My yoke is light.
- 18:18Come to me. Exactly.
- 18:20And so, Doug, you know that analogy you gave of an architect
- 18:24building a building, one of the most important things of a
- 18:26building is the foundation. You know, for example, if you're
- 18:30building a skyscraper, you know, I worked with construction
- 18:33workers back in Seattle that built these big tall buildings.
- 18:36You know, the fact is, is that they, the foundation, they have
- 18:39to build that building as twice as deep in the ground before
- 18:44they can erect it to go high. And so, and when we come to God,
- 18:48we got to get our foundation built first on the Word of God,
- 18:52but it's got to go deep into our hearts done correct.
- 18:54Correct. And what the word of God does
- 18:56first is it'll he'll allow the problems in our lives.
- 19:00And when we get bumped, we know God says to love your enemy, to
- 19:05forgive. But you know what will come up
- 19:07in us? That voice and saying, you going
- 19:10to let that person talk to you like that?
- 19:12You're going to let them get away with that, do something
- 19:15about it, hurt them, give them lickings, you know, and that
- 19:20voice is the enemy. So God is saying lift it up to
- 19:25me, don't be anxious about anything, but in everything by
- 19:29prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving, present your
- 19:33request to God and the peace of God, which transcends all
- 19:36understanding will guard your heart and your mind in Christ
- 19:39Jesus. And he says now lift it up to
- 19:42me, your challenge. Now change the channel.
- 19:46Whatever is pure, whatever is noble, whatever is admirable,
- 19:50focus on dwelling all the blessings you have.
- 19:53Dwell on the good you have in your life.
- 19:56Don't dwell on the bad. Once you lift it up to me, look
- 19:59at the good and move on. Don't keep replaying the
- 20:04negative and replaying the negative and replaying the
- 20:07negative. So the evidence of a Christ
- 20:11built intimate relationship with God is we're able.
- 20:15We're able. We are able and capable of
- 20:20applying His word to our lives. If we don't have a relationship,
- 20:25we can't do it. Right, Going back to your, the
- 20:28song that we played here, Doug, you know, loving our spouses,
- 20:32loving our partners, loving our husband, wife and that
- 20:34relationship, You know, we can't do that unless we have our life
- 20:39centered around that love of God filling us up every day.
- 20:43That is the example of, you know, the word says to love your
- 20:46wife as Christ, to love the church.
- 20:47How can we do that when we've got all that poison, all that
- 20:51history and all that, all those voices in us?
- 20:53We can only do that when we actually have and understand
- 20:57that daily intermittent relationship that comes by
- 20:59knowing God and His love for us. See, and that's the key,
- 21:04remembering, going back to the basics, going back to the
- 21:08original reason for creation. God didn't create Adam and Eve,
- 21:14so he could be Adam and Eve could work for him.
- 21:17He has legions of angels to do that if he wants, and they
- 21:20worship him too, and they're divine beings.
- 21:22He created Adam and Eve to have an intimate relationship with
- 21:26them, helping them through the good times, helping them through
- 21:29the bad times, the hard times. It's not like our parents where
- 21:33you, they teach us to be independent.
- 21:36No, it's, it's almost like a husband and a wife being
- 21:39dependent, interdependent on each other, becoming one flesh.
- 21:44But we're God is closer to us than a husband and a wife.
- 21:48Although we're one flesh and my wife isn't with me physically,
- 21:51we're connected through God, but the Holy Spirit.
- 21:56When we walk through that gate, Kev, the Holy Spirit is in us.
- 22:00He's with us all the time. Right, Doug?
- 22:03And would you say, Doug, that could you say that you become,
- 22:08as it were, codependent on God, as it were, because all of our
- 22:11love comes from Him, and without that love coming from Him, we're
- 22:14not capable of loving anybody's? Definitely, definitely.
- 22:18See, Satan wants to turn that into a bad word, a bad phrase.
- 22:22But it's not. That's when you you get it.
- 22:24Or God got it. Right.
- 22:27Exactly, Doug. Perfect.
- 22:29Yeah. And so again, that song just
- 22:31reflects, you know, there's a lot of listeners out there that
- 22:34are married, of course. And how you how you going to
- 22:37love your wife the way she really needs to be loved.
- 22:40And, you know, if he won't, we don't have that love of God in
- 22:42our heart. That's virtual, virtual
- 22:44impossible task to do that. And so that's what we do here at
- 22:47Christ built as we go to the root of all that sin, nature and
- 22:51us that separated us from God in that relationship at the
- 22:53beginning, God starts putting us back together piece by piece by
- 22:57piece. Yes, and through that daily
- 22:59intimate relationship with God kept, you'd start to understand
- 23:04how much God loves us, why he sets these boundaries or rules,
- 23:09so to speak. It's not to hurt us, it's to
- 23:11help us, to help us stay set apart, stay holy.
- 23:16Not just love the lovable, but be able to love the unlovable.
- 23:20Because hurt people can hurt people from the hurt in my
- 23:24heart. And this isn't an excuse, this
- 23:27is just recognition from the past hurt in my heart.
- 23:30That voice reminds me of the pain, steals the little joy that
- 23:34I mustered up for the day. And guess what happens when I
- 23:37get home and things aren't going the way it's supposed to grow.
- 23:41The negativity overflows to the people that I love the most.
- 23:45So now that's spending time with God the Father every day He
- 23:49heals that hurt, He turns that wound into a scar.
- 23:53So now it's a testimony. And when Satan reminds me of the
- 23:57past doesn't hurt anymore, it becomes a stepping stone.
- 24:02So he cannot work from the inside out anymore.
- 24:06Yeah, exactly. And that's what we do.
- 24:08We learn how to love and not cope.
- 24:10We don't just go through this life with our old formulas, our
- 24:13own way of doing things. We come to the Father.
- 24:15We say, Father, help us. Please help us to love our
- 24:18friend, our neighbors, lover. You know, our wives help us to
- 24:21love. And so thank you for joining us
- 24:23here again this afternoon on the Men Helping Men radio show.
- 24:26It's a blessing to say we're here with Doug and Brandon this
- 24:29afternoon and share our love for God.
- 24:31Take a listen to the song as we come back in from the top of the
- 24:34hour here. Aloha.
- 29:41as beloved sons. Welcome back to Men Helping Men.
- 29:46Thank you for joining us here this Wednesday afternoon here
- 29:48and tuning into the Men Helping Men radio talk show.
- 29:52And I got to tell you what, Doug, that song we just listened
- 29:55to, man, it speaks so, so true to my own personal experience
- 30:01about being in church for 23 years of my life.
- 30:07And why wasn't Jesus changing my heart?
- 30:10Because you know what? I wasn't being fed.
- 30:13I wasn't being taught. I wasn't being shown as an
- 30:16example of how to do that. I was just show up like every
- 30:20like Wednesday and Sunday and do the same thing, repeat all the
- 30:23time, go and nothing. I mean, surface things maybe
- 30:28would have changed out of discipline, but my heart, my
- 30:31heart never, never changed, You know, not to be proud again.
- 30:35I went to two divorces in church by the way, and because of the
- 30:39fact that I didn't understand of what it takes to really be a
- 30:44Christian and let God change my heart in that.
- 30:47And that is why I after running away from God for 15 years of my
- 30:52life, running the opposite direction as fast and as hard as
- 30:56I could. It wasn't until I met you,
- 30:59Pastor Doug Chong started showing me how God can change my
- 31:04heart and heal and develop a relationship with Him daily.
- 31:09Yeah, Kevin. And you know, I, I learned the
- 31:12hard way. There's two ways of learning
- 31:14through wisdom, learning from other people's consequence.
- 31:18Like you read God's word, you learn from them falling short
- 31:21and you pull out the lessons. Or you can learn through
- 31:24consequence, which is the, the hardest of the heart.
- 31:28Everybody jumps across the the ravine.
- 31:31They all don't make it. And I think I can make it.
- 31:33I don't make it. So to to be transparent with
- 31:39everyone, it's it's because of the hardship that I went through
- 31:43my wife leaving me and me loving her and wanting to change, just
- 31:49not knowing how to do how to make that change.
- 31:53So I was one of them. Why isn't Jesus changing my
- 31:57heart? Because of prison and and not
- 32:01knowing anybody who could teach me.
- 32:03Because I was a Catholic growing up.
- 32:04I I believe in Jesus intellectually.
- 32:07I never questioned if he came to this earth and he rose from the
- 32:10dead. I just didn't have a
- 32:12relationship with him. I didn't know what to do when I
- 32:15run into problems. I didn't know how to apply His
- 32:17word. I didn't want to build a
- 32:18relationship. I thought I had a relationship.
- 32:21This is the kind of relationship we have with each other
- 32:23nowadays. Once a month you see people
- 32:24that's a relationship that's not an intimate relationship like
- 32:28husband and wife, only deeper in husband and wife.
- 32:32So I had to learn the hard way where I only had God's word and
- 32:38I read and I read and I read and you know what, My heart wasn't
- 32:42changing. I couldn't do what I read.
- 32:44How do you love your enemy? How do you love somebody that's
- 32:47trying to hurt you? When my cold in my heart is
- 32:50don't let anybody pick on you, you know, give him lickins or my
- 32:55dad would give me lickins growing up.
- 32:57So it's a eye for an eye. I got, I got along with the Old
- 33:01Testament. But to forgive, how do you do
- 33:04that? How do you, when something hurts
- 33:07you so deeply, how do you not let it hurt you?
- 33:10I wish I knew that earlier. So I walked away.
- 33:13I wasn't, I couldn't, I didn't know how to do it.
- 33:15So I was like this, I'm missing something.
- 33:17They didn't think that God is fake.
- 33:19I'm just thinking I'm missing something that I can't figure
- 33:22out. And no matter what church I went
- 33:24to, they didn't know either. They were less not even read
- 33:29your Bible. I was reading.
- 33:30So I knew what I'm supposed to do.
- 33:33I just couldn't do it because I was doing it out of discipline.
- 33:36So I could only do it on my best days when I'm spread thin or
- 33:40that voice is reminding me of the hurt in my life.
- 33:45Negativity comes out, anger comes out, and unfortunately it
- 33:48comes out to the people that I love the most.
- 33:51Yeah. And Doug, you know, if you've
- 33:53said some things as we've sat together that the turning point
- 33:57for you was when you got broken, you got Doug needed to die, Doug
- 34:03the old Doug needed to go away. And I remember you saying that
- 34:06was the turning point for you and your life whereby you didn't
- 34:10have anything else to turn to anymore.
- 34:12You were on your knees and you were like everything I've done
- 34:15up until this point is produced this God, please help me.
- 34:18What, how do I do this? How do I, how do I, how do I
- 34:21love you? How do I build this relationship
- 34:23with you? And talk a little bit about
- 34:25that, Doug, that testimony of yours where God really started
- 34:28to work in you. Yeah, I would lean on other
- 34:31people from comfort, my wife, my family and I would lean on my
- 34:35intellect and my wife's intellect to get through
- 34:37problems. And we could face pretty much
- 34:40any problem that came our way now when God separated us.
- 34:45I'm in prison now. Now I can't control the
- 34:48situation. No matter what I do, I can't
- 34:51change my circumstance. So now he's, he's going to start
- 34:55teaching me how to change. So all of the learning I did was
- 35:00intellectual up until this last season, about four, 4 1/2 years
- 35:05ago. He said now is the final exam.
- 35:09But everything I taught you for the past 20 years, put it
- 35:12together and apply it to your life.
- 35:14You cannot change your circumstances.
- 35:16You change. I'm going to show you how to
- 35:19change. I'm going to change your heart
- 35:22so you don't have to have things change around you in order to
- 35:25love, in order to forgive somebody.
- 35:28Your wife doesn't have to be nice to you for you to love her.
- 35:31I'm going to show you how to love her, even if she's mean to
- 35:33you and she doesn't love you back.
- 35:36And she does a great job at that.
- 35:41Oh, do I know that all too well, Doug, Do I know that all too
- 35:43well? I'm sure there's a lot of you
- 35:45guys listen out there can interview relate to that
- 35:48scenario. But again, Doug coming back to
- 35:51the fact that we can't love them.
- 35:54We can't be an example to our children.
- 35:57We can't not be an example to anybody unless I know we're
- 36:02beating this drum over and over again.
- 36:04But it comes back to intimate daily fellowship with God.
- 36:09You know, we talk about reading God's word all the time, Doug.
- 36:11But again, for me, learning how how to read God's word, not just
- 36:16going like like a, like a regular book in a reading
- 36:19through, starting at Genesis and reading all the way through the
- 36:21revelations. That's not going to change your
- 36:24heart. It's not going to get you to
- 36:25understand how to have an intimate relationship or even
- 36:27know the character of God for it, for for anything.
- 36:30So I love that. The fact is we the strategic way
- 36:34by which we read God's word every day, Matthew 4, Four man
- 36:37shall not live by bread alone, but every word that proceeds out
- 36:40of the mouth of God, that is Our Daily Bread.
- 36:43That's our daily sustenance, Correct, Doug?
- 36:45Correct. And again, it's not the the act
- 36:48of reading, it's the act of building our relationship with
- 36:52God the Father, listening to him tell us about what he loves,
- 36:58what he hates, what hurts him and why.
- 37:01And we start to get to know him and we know how much he loves
- 37:06us. Because when we admit our sins
- 37:08in like, I don't love him the way I should love him.
- 37:11I don't give thanks. I got so much to be thankful
- 37:13for. But I pick out the things that I
- 37:15don't like, the things that I'm not happy with.
- 37:19Just like the Israelites in the desert.
- 37:21He got them out of Egypt. Now they're not slaves to the
- 37:25Egyptians and they complain because it's hot.
- 37:28They don't have anything to drink.
- 37:30They don't have food. I should have stayed back in
- 37:33Egypt. What did he do?
- 37:34He killed most of them and they never reached the promised land.
- 37:38So it's an agreement. Testament means covenant.
- 37:42Covenant means an agreement. It's not Mystic.
- 37:45Where Jesus. I hear pastors say Jesus paid
- 37:49the price. He did everything he did.
- 37:52It's like creation. We have a part of creation now.
- 37:55God did 99% of it. I have a part to do.
- 37:59He made it that way. Salvation, we have a part to do.
- 38:04I have to sacrifice my life. I have to repent.
- 38:08I have to turn from my sin, sacrifice my time and build an
- 38:12intimate relationship with Him. The reason why it's so hard for
- 38:16me now, it's because I came to God in my 30s.
- 38:19Now, if I was raised that way. Psychologists say up to the age
- 38:24of 12, teaching is more caught than taught.
- 38:29Kids observe primarily. That's why they can learn the
- 38:32language fluently. It's not what you help.
- 38:35You teach them how to speak. They automatically pick it up.
- 38:39They can pick up Mandarin, they can pick up Taiwanese.
- 38:42It's after the age of 12 now. It's difficult to learn a
- 38:46different language, difficult to learn a different way.
- 38:51Heart represents our innermost thoughts and feelings, our
- 38:54morals, our values, our character.
- 38:58To change our character and our deep belief system.
- 39:02Impossible without God helping. Us, come on.
- 39:05And I'm witness to that, Doug, you know, 62 years of this life
- 39:08on this planet. And I wish I would have had my
- 39:11father have a daily intimate relationship with him so he
- 39:15could have taught me how to be a man of God, loving, forgiving,
- 39:20going above and beyond, showing the nature and the character of
- 39:24God in an everyday basis. And you know, it's like you
- 39:27said, that is challenging coming and having to get rid of the all
- 39:32those old habits of mine that are just part of who I was part
- 39:36of who I am. And that's the thing about when
- 39:38you spend time with God, he reveals those things to you.
- 39:41And as and as you say, Doug, it's the bumps that we get, not
- 39:45the person bumping us change. But what's it reveal like?
- 39:48What's it revealing on us? What's that hurt in our heart?
- 39:51What's that? That miscalibration as it were
- 39:53in our hearts that we need to look at and make the adjustment
- 39:57ourselves. But we're not on ourselves, but
- 39:59going to God say, Father, God, help me Holy Spirit.
- 40:02Heal that part of my heart. Go deep way down to the recesses
- 40:05of who I am, the top root of the Kiabi tree as it were.
- 40:08Get to the bottom of this rooted out so then we can start living
- 40:12the way God intended us to live in His His creation.
- 40:15Correct. And the whole this is the time
- 40:18that we have a choice. This is where we're going to
- 40:21determine where we're going to live for eternity.
- 40:26We don't even live 100 years on Earth and for old people like
- 40:31Kevin, no, we don't even live that long here on earth.
- 40:36But this, this decision we make here on earth will, will
- 40:40determine where we're going to go for eternity.
- 40:42Now remember, guys, you know, if to have somebody move into your
- 40:47home with you, you have to trust him.
- 40:50You have valuables there. You have your wife, you have
- 40:53your children there. You know how many people do
- 40:57wrong things to children nowadays?
- 40:59I mean, more and more exposure is coming out.
- 41:02So you're going to have somebody come into your house where you
- 41:06don't know that's people just don't do that.
- 41:09You have to trust them to be around the most intimate part of
- 41:13you, your family, your home. Heaven represents God's home.
- 41:20And see, the difference is I'm just using us as an example.
- 41:23God is holy. He cannot bring us in without us
- 41:29being forgiven. He's not corrupt like us.
- 41:32So can God do anything and everything?
- 41:35No, he can't. He cannot sin, He cannot lie.
- 41:39Hebrews 618 It's impossible for God to lie, so God can't do all
- 41:44things, He can't do anything evil.
- 41:48So therefore, he created a way for us to come home to heaven to
- 41:54change our destiny. We're destined to go to hell.
- 41:56If we don't do anything, we're hell bomb.
- 41:59And I, I, I was born with asthma, not because I was a
- 42:03chain smoker in my mother's womb.
- 42:06It's because I inherited it. It's in the family line.
- 42:10I'm grateful that I grew out of it.
- 42:13But sin, we inherited it, so to speak, original sin.
- 42:17So God gives us an opportunity to change our destiny from being
- 42:22separated from him hell to coming home with him, heaven.
- 42:26But that banks on the relationship we have with him.
- 42:30And the evidence of that relationship will be a changed
- 42:35heart, a healed heart. And that's why the song Why
- 42:41isn't Jesus changing my heart? Because you're not spending
- 42:46intimate quality time with him every.
- 42:51Day, right, Doug? And you know, for me, the big
- 42:53change in my my life was when I started seeing my life here and
- 42:59not from the earthly perspective as it were.
- 43:01But it says, for lack of better terms, I bought into eternity
- 43:06realize that hey, I bet whatever I'm doing here right now is
- 43:10going to determine where I'm going.
- 43:12So I better start taking this serious.
- 43:14And the problem is with this world that we live around that's
- 43:16around us doesn't have doesn't teach us that do your own way to
- 43:20have your own thing do your do your own life live the way you
- 43:23what feels right to you. Whereas that's just a that's
- 43:27just a a ticket to go to the dark place.
- 43:30That's just a way of the world. When you start seeing your life
- 43:34from an eternal perspectives and building that daily relationship
- 43:38with God every day, your heart slowly starts to change and you
- 43:42start seeing like a reflected reflected this morning, Doug
- 43:45about getting to experience without God, the love of God.
- 43:50And only because I'm spending that time with him every day and
- 43:54and doing the sacrifices that need to be happen every day for
- 43:58my life to know how much he really loves me.
- 44:01It's overwhelming to be honest with you.
- 44:02You know, Doug, this morning I was like, just wow.
- 44:05The love of God is is real. And when you spend that time
- 44:08with him, he'll show you if you show up.
- 44:10Yeah, exactly, Kevin. We we have we just started doing
- 44:14podcasts on YouTube. So if you go on YouTube and
- 44:18you're men helping men, the second episode is talking about
- 44:24what we're talking about today. But what I did is I I brought
- 44:28Gemini in and I started talking to Gemini as I record asking
- 44:34Gemini to use systematic theology is what the whole Bible
- 44:38says about one topic. So the great thing about AI is
- 44:43they can access God's word 66 books throughout very
- 44:48efficiently and fast effectively.
- 44:50So I can always test the theology that others have and I
- 44:55have against AI. So I, I have about a fifth,
- 44:59well, about a 1015 minute session with, with Gemini about
- 45:05what we're talking about creation, learning another
- 45:08language. If I was a billionaire, does
- 45:11that help? No, it's the sacrifice, building
- 45:15a relationship with God. What if I do it twice a week for
- 45:18two hours each time? She said.
- 45:20Impossible to be transformed. It's a daily commitment.
- 45:25So why doesn't the churches say that?
- 45:27Because of misinterpretation of Scripture, conforming to the
- 45:30people in their church instead of conforming to God's word, His
- 45:35character, his way. Remember, Jesus is the judge,
- 45:39not your pastor. You can't blame your pastor.
- 45:43Well, he told me the wrong. He gave me the wrong
- 45:45instruction. Yeah, your pastor will get
- 45:47beaten with many blows, but you're still accountable for
- 45:51your own salvation, your own relationship, or lack.
- 45:54Thereof exactly Doug Wow some powerful truth there Doug and
- 45:59yeah so make sure you do turn into our podcast on men helping
- 46:03men YouTube channel. That's where our music comes
- 46:06from as well, and it's a daily showing up daily again, just as
- 46:13we would show up to if you wanted to, you know, like you
- 46:15said, you used to have type 2 diabetes.
- 46:17You got to change your diet. If you want to start living a
- 46:20healthier life, you got to start showing up to the gym.
- 46:22You can't just passively approach these things in your
- 46:26life. You have to apply yourself and
- 46:28to change your heart. You have to apply yourself to
- 46:31learning who God is through His Word and showing up every day
- 46:34and making that sacrifice. Yeah, and and that's how you can
- 46:37spread it to your family. You can teach your wife, your
- 46:41children, men, You can bring it home.
- 46:44You can give it to the people you love.
- 46:45You can help them build that intimate relationship with God
- 46:49the Father. See, that's what a spiritual
- 46:51father is supposed to do. A spiritual father is a pastor,
- 46:54teacher. He's supposed to teach God's
- 46:57children, his sheep, how to build an intimate daily
- 47:00relationship with him. And that's what I'm trying to
- 47:03teach. I'm, I'm in the middle of
- 47:04teaching Kevin and Brandon not to depend on me.
- 47:07We're not Catholics. It's to depend on my faith in
- 47:12the beginning. But I transition them off to
- 47:14depending on God. 100% yes. They'll all run things by it.
- 47:19We run things by each other so we can be sure we don't make
- 47:23mistakes. But ultimately, when Kevin goes
- 47:27home to his house, the Holy Spirit goes with him.
- 47:29He's not alone anymore. Doug, That was that was a big
- 47:34thing for me because I always felt alone.
- 47:36And when I started fellowshipping with you and
- 47:38Brandon, I remember showing up at the house one day and just
- 47:42having this overwhelming sense that not just because you guys
- 47:45being there, but realizing that the Holy Spirit is with me all
- 47:48the time. I'm not alone.
- 47:50I don't have to figure this out on my own.
- 47:52See a lot of US men, we want to rely on or we're taught to rely
- 47:55on ourself, be independent, figure it out on our own.
- 47:58But that only works for a certain period of time.
- 48:00And you come to the end of yourself.
- 48:02And when you do come to the end yourself, it's like like Doug
- 48:04did when you get on your knees and say, Father, help me, help
- 48:08me to love you, help me to learn about you.
- 48:09Help me to live this life that's pleasing to you.
- 48:11Help me to be a Christ built Christian.
- 48:15Yes, and it depends on how deep your wounds are and how hard
- 48:19headed you are. And I'm Hawaiian, Portuguese and
- 48:23Chinese so I'm pretty. It took a while before I got
- 48:26this and there was unfortunately nobody to take the lead and show
- 48:30me these things and show me the way God Jesus is way I'm the
- 48:34way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father
- 48:37except through me. The gate is narrow.
- 48:39The reason why it's narrow is I got to throw off all my bad
- 48:41habits and I'll solely depend on him.
- 48:44Exactly. Hey guys, got some great news
- 48:46for you. By the way, as we come off the
- 48:48show here, we got 3, two more days adding to the Men Helping
- 48:51Men radio talk show. We're going to be joining you at
- 48:547:00, excuse me, 11:00 Monday morning, our regular 3:00
- 48:58session and then Friday again, 11:00.
- 49:00Make sure you tune into us and get in to the YouTube channel,
- 49:04listen to Pastor Doug's teaching and God bless you guys.
- 49:07We look forward to seeing you next week here on Men Helping
- 49:10Men. Aloha.
- 49:52sons.
