- 0:00Speaker 1: I'll get everyone. I hope you're greats Now if I'm
- 0:04Speaker 1: doing my maths right, well, I'm recording this on the
- 0:07Speaker 1: twenty third. I think most of you will hear this
- 0:10Speaker 1: on the twenty fourth Christmas Eve or at some stage
- 0:14Speaker 1: from then on. Whenever you're hearing it, I hype you well,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Happy Holidays, Happy Christmas, whatever it is that you celebrate
- 0:21Speaker 1: what I've decided to do over this period time. Obviously,
- 0:25Speaker 1: I need a little bit of a break. I need
- 0:27Speaker 1: to jump in the hammock, the metaphoric hammock, put my
- 0:31Speaker 1: brain on a shelf for a week or two, recoup, recover, refresh,
- 0:36Speaker 1: replenish all the things that I talk about. So what
- 0:39Speaker 1: I've done is I've got a collection of let's call
- 0:42Speaker 1: it repurposed content. Some of it is from the U Projects,
- 0:49Speaker 1: some of it is from Life the podcast that I
- 0:52Speaker 1: did for two hundred episodes last year at Daily Podcast.
- 0:56Speaker 1: And I think it's kind of all apt and relevant
- 1:00Speaker 1: for the end of the year, the start of a
- 1:03Speaker 1: new year. And they're just short, bite sized chunks of info,
- 1:08Speaker 1: a little bit of education, a little bit of inspiration,
- 1:11Speaker 1: a little bit of reflection, a little bit of provocation.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Of course, because I'm me. But anyway, I hope you
- 1:17Speaker 1: enjoy I hope you have a good break. I hope
- 1:19Speaker 1: you find some downtime and maybe a little bit of
- 1:22Speaker 1: time to reflect about as I record anyway this year
- 1:26Speaker 1: twenty twenty four and what you might do be create, change,
- 1:32Speaker 1: learn in twenty twenty five. Anyway, it's always a pleasure.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I appreciate your loyalty as listeners. I appreciate your feedback,
- 1:42Speaker 1: positive and negative. I appreciate you being part of this
- 1:45Speaker 1: tribe that we've created over six years and one thousand
- 1:49Speaker 1: and seven hundred and something episodes. We're always learning here,
- 1:54Speaker 1: We're always trying to do our best. I'm always trying
- 1:56Speaker 1: to have great conversations. Sometimes to an extent, we're reinventing
- 2:01Speaker 1: the wheel. But you know, the same principles and the
- 2:04Speaker 1: same ideas and the same strategies and protocols to an extent,
- 2:10Speaker 1: are always going to be relevant. Think better, do better,
- 2:13Speaker 1: create better, self awareness, self regulation, self management, taking ownership
- 2:18Speaker 1: of what we do and what we don't do. And
- 2:21Speaker 1: as always, next year twenty twenty five, I'm going to
- 2:24Speaker 1: be cheering you on. Without further ado, here we go.
- 2:29Speaker 1: So today I'm going to talk about a thing that
- 2:30Speaker 1: I've spoken about many times on the You project, I
- 2:34Speaker 1: haven't spoken about it for a little while. Is this
- 2:37Speaker 1: idea of having an internal sat nav? We all have?
- 2:41Speaker 1: This is a term I use. I don't know if
- 2:42Speaker 1: other people do. I'm sure they do somewhere, But for me,
- 2:46Speaker 1: my internal sat Nav, and I believe we all have
- 2:48Speaker 1: a version of this. My internal sat NAB is really
- 2:52Speaker 1: the kind of the combination of my values, my beliefs,
- 2:56Speaker 1: my dreams, the things that matter to me, and my
- 3:03Speaker 1: I guess intentions like who I want to be, how
- 3:07Speaker 1: I want to be, what I want to do, be, create,
- 3:09Speaker 1: how I want to live my life, the things that
- 3:12Speaker 1: matter to me. That is kind of that is what
- 3:16Speaker 1: makes up my internal sat nav. So for me, the
- 3:18Speaker 1: internal sat Nav is kind of that wisdom that knowing.
- 3:22Speaker 1: It's almost that higher level of consciousness that I think
- 3:27Speaker 1: inhabits all of us where we know that we should
- 3:31Speaker 1: do something or we shouldn't do something, even if we
- 3:33Speaker 1: don't intellectually in the moment know why, even if it's
- 3:37Speaker 1: not really perhaps a logical conclusion that we've arrived at,
- 3:41Speaker 1: but rather it's a gut instinct. It's a deep seated
- 3:44Speaker 1: knowing it's something that we're aware of from a cellular
- 3:48Speaker 1: level up. So for me, when I talk about my
- 3:51Speaker 1: internal sat NAB, I'm often just really that's almost analogous
- 3:56Speaker 1: with me talking about my values, my values being the
- 3:59Speaker 1: things that matter to me. I believe that when we yes,
- 4:03Speaker 1: we need to use our brain, and we need to
- 4:06Speaker 1: use our intellect, and we need to be strategic, and
- 4:08Speaker 1: we need to make great decisions, and we need to
- 4:11Speaker 1: be very aware and practical with choices and behaviors and
- 4:17Speaker 1: actions and reactions. But I also think that sometimes we
- 4:23Speaker 1: need to be still in present and aware of what
- 4:26Speaker 1: is what do I know? What do I instinctively and
- 4:29Speaker 1: intuitively know? What is that deep down kind of awareness
- 4:33Speaker 1: or knowledge or truth that I am aware of that
- 4:36Speaker 1: I need to tap into. I mean, I don't know why,
- 4:39Speaker 1: but for example, for me, when I was young, I
- 4:43Speaker 1: had an awareness do not even know why I had
- 4:45Speaker 1: this awareness, but I had an awareness that boos and
- 4:49Speaker 1: drugs were not for me. Booze drugs and cigarettes. Now,
- 4:52Speaker 1: I know that seems like an obvious thing to say,
- 4:54Speaker 1: but I grew up in a place where virtually everybody drank. Eventually,
- 4:59Speaker 1: a lot lot of people smoked, especially at the time
- 5:02Speaker 1: when I grew up, more smoked than didn't, including both
- 5:06Speaker 1: of my parents. Both of my parents drank. Both of
- 5:08Speaker 1: my parents smoked daily on both accounts, and more and
- 5:13Speaker 1: more as I grew up, more and more people used drugs.
- 5:16Speaker 1: And it wasn't that I ever had some terrible experience
- 5:20Speaker 1: or some incredible encounter or some light bulb moment, But
- 5:24Speaker 1: I always knew, and I had an instinctive kind of
- 5:26Speaker 1: I guess understanding that if I personally this is what
- 5:30Speaker 1: I think, if I ever opened the door on drugs
- 5:32Speaker 1: or booze, I think it could have fucked up my
- 5:35Speaker 1: life because I'm pretty manic, I'm pretty I can have
- 5:39Speaker 1: an addictive personality. And even though I didn't intellectually process
- 5:43Speaker 1: it like that, I feel like if I had ever
- 5:45Speaker 1: opened that door, it would have been trouble, all kinds
- 5:48Speaker 1: of trouble for me. So when I think about coming
- 5:51Speaker 1: back to you know, what are my values? My values
- 5:54Speaker 1: are kind of they're the platform, I guess, or the
- 5:57Speaker 1: basis for my internal sat NAV. So for me, it's
- 6:00Speaker 1: things like which sounds a bit naff, doesn't it, But
- 6:03Speaker 1: it's true kind of service learning, helping others empowering others
- 6:09Speaker 1: health physical, mental, emotional health, being of value to other
- 6:14Speaker 1: people using my potential, being a lifelong learner, unlearning shit
- 6:19Speaker 1: that I need to unlearn, but not wasting what I've
- 6:22Speaker 1: been given. I feel like I've never been I was,
- 6:26Speaker 1: never am not the person who is hugely talented. I
- 6:30Speaker 1: didn't have incredible potential. I was not a brilliant student
- 6:35Speaker 1: or academic. I was not genetically gifted. But what I was,
- 6:40Speaker 1: or what I am is I'm quite driven. So I've
- 6:43Speaker 1: always been excited about human potential. I've always been excited
- 6:48Speaker 1: about possibilities. I've always been excited about what I could do, be, create, change, learn,
- 6:54Speaker 1: unlearn if I got out of my own way. So
- 6:59Speaker 1: your internal that NAB is for you, it is hopefully
- 7:02Speaker 1: it's going to be the platform from where you make
- 7:06Speaker 1: a lot of the big decisions in your life. For
- 7:09Speaker 1: me and for most people that I've really kind of
- 7:12Speaker 1: observed around this, when we have a life, and by
- 7:17Speaker 1: that I mean the choices that we make, the decisions
- 7:20Speaker 1: sorry the paths that we choose, the actions that we
- 7:23Speaker 1: lean into, the relationships that we build, the words that
- 7:26Speaker 1: we use when we have a life, which is consistent
- 7:30Speaker 1: with and reflective of our internal sat nab, that intelligence,
- 7:35Speaker 1: that wisdom. We tend to live experientially in a more
- 7:39Speaker 1: aligned place. And what that means is if I could
- 7:43Speaker 1: It sounds a bit weird and creepy, but if I
- 7:44Speaker 1: could watch you, if I could observe you do life,
- 7:48Speaker 1: If I could observe you do relationships and business and
- 7:52Speaker 1: work and interactions and you know, self management. And so
- 7:56Speaker 1: if I could watch you, I would have a really
- 7:59Speaker 1: good idea of who you were, how you are, and
- 8:02Speaker 1: what your values are. Now, if you were living in alignment,
- 8:06Speaker 1: I could watch you without even talking to you, and
- 8:09Speaker 1: I could accurately predict what your values are because how
- 8:14Speaker 1: you live, what you do, choices, actions, behaviors, how you
- 8:17Speaker 1: treat others, conversations, words, all of those things would be
- 8:20Speaker 1: reflective of what matters most to you, your values. So
- 8:24Speaker 1: what are your values? What are the things that for
- 8:26Speaker 1: you really matter? So I think one of the great
- 8:30Speaker 1: exercises that we can do is to hit the pause button,
- 8:33Speaker 1: either metaphorically or literally, you know, find a quiet place,
- 8:37Speaker 1: turn off the phone, turn off the computer, get away
- 8:40Speaker 1: from the noise, get in nature, get by yourself somewhere.
- 8:43Speaker 1: It doesn't matter as long as you have the ability
- 8:45Speaker 1: to be present and aware of the focus and to
- 8:48Speaker 1: think about your current operating system. We all have a
- 8:52Speaker 1: current operating system with your life, with your business, with
- 8:55Speaker 1: your health, with your marriage, with your career, with all
- 8:59Speaker 1: of the things that are the components of your operating
- 9:02Speaker 1: system on planet you, and as much as possible objectively
- 9:07Speaker 1: have a look at all of that stuff and say,
- 9:09Speaker 1: does that stuff align with who I want to be
- 9:12Speaker 1: and how I want to be? Is the way that
- 9:15Speaker 1: I do life reflective of my values, my internal sat nav.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Is the way that I do food and fitness and health.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Is that reflective of who I want to be and
- 9:26Speaker 1: how I want to be? Is the way that I
- 9:28Speaker 1: treat others? Is the way that I manage money, and
- 9:31Speaker 1: so on and so on, And that gives us it's
- 9:34Speaker 1: almost like doing a stock take on our life. And
- 9:38Speaker 1: when we can get that clarity, I mean, it's hard
- 9:42Speaker 1: to get clarity. That's the other thing, because it's very
- 9:44Speaker 1: hard to be objective about the thing that you're in
- 9:45Speaker 1: the middle of, right because it's your life, Like very
- 9:48Speaker 1: it's impossible for you to be objective about you because
- 9:51Speaker 1: you're you. Possible for me to be objective about me,
- 9:55Speaker 1: because I am me, of course, and that's a silly
- 9:57Speaker 1: thing to say. But what we're trying to do is
- 9:59Speaker 1: we're trying to find a little bit of space between
- 10:03Speaker 1: the groundhog daaness of what we do every day and
- 10:07Speaker 1: how we are every day and how we think every day,
- 10:09Speaker 1: trying to get a bit of space between that and
- 10:13Speaker 1: us in the moment and say, Okay, what's going great,
- 10:16Speaker 1: what's not going great? What's that internal wisdom that, what's
- 10:20Speaker 1: that intuition, what's that internal sat nav saying to me?
- 10:24Speaker 1: What's going great? What's not going great? And what do
- 10:26Speaker 1: I need to change? Right, We're going to take a
- 10:28Speaker 1: quick break. We'll be back. I'm going to ask you
- 10:30Speaker 1: a question when we're going to wind up. Alright, we're back,
- 10:35Speaker 1: We're back, We're back. Lots to think about today. I
- 10:38Speaker 1: hope that resonated for you. I think sometimes, of course,
- 10:42Speaker 1: it's really important that we are logical and rational and
- 10:44Speaker 1: strategic and practical creatures because we live in a world
- 10:47Speaker 1: that requires that. But on a deeper level in terms
- 10:51Speaker 1: of deep satisfaction and happiness and joy and the absence
- 10:55Speaker 1: of anxiety and being the calm and the chaos, sometimes
- 10:59Speaker 1: the question that we need to ask ourselves, and this
- 11:01Speaker 1: is my question for you today, is what really matters
- 11:04Speaker 1: to me? What really matters to me, like really really
- 11:08Speaker 1: really matters to me when I get through all the bullshit,
- 11:11Speaker 1: what really matters to me? And is my life evidence
- 11:15Speaker 1: of those things that really matter? Am I living in alignment?
- 11:19Speaker 1: Love your guards, have a great day, see tomorrow.
