- 5:46Jennifer Davis: Reserve through the link in the show notes and in our newsletter.
- 5:51Dan Schulz: A lot of people put off calling about a leak because they're scared of what it's gonna cost.
- 5:56Dan Schulz: We ask Lincoln Spencer from Simply Leak Detection about that.
- 6:00Lincoln Spencer: No matter what, it's gonna cost some money to fix this issue.
- 6:04Lincoln Spencer: But the fee that you pay us is well worth it just to at least be informed in your options, because you might find that based on the information from us, it makes a lot of sense to do a
- 6:14Lincoln Spencer: repair, and that saves you a lot of money compared to replacing the whole line.
- 6:18Lincoln Spencer: So in that case, you're still money well spent versus 10,000 plus or whatever that's gonna be to replace the line.
- 6:25Lincoln Spencer: In other cases, you might find out that it's actually the better decision to replace the line based on what we find.
- 6:33Lincoln Spencer: But either way, we're giving the homeowner more information, and then they can make that next decision that's right for them based on their budget, the age of the line, the age of the home, things like that.
- 6:43Jennifer Davis: Find out what you're dealing with before you spend a dime fixing it.
- 6:46Jennifer Davis: Call 253-800-1412 or go to simplyleakdetection.com and tell them The Best of Redmond sent ya.
- 6:56Dan Schulz: It is time for the Redmond History Minute where we share a piece of history, a tidbit, or some trivia about life in and around Redmond.
- 7:06Dan Schulz: Today's trivia question is, Redmond didn't get its very first traffic light until what year?
- 7:15Dan Schulz: Jennifer, those of you playing along at home, your choices are A, 1932; B, 1951; C, 1966; D, 1978.
- 7:30Dan Schulz: your time starts now.
- 7:33Jennifer Davis: All right.
- 7:34Jennifer Davis: Well, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out 'cause a traffic light you need cars.
- 7:38Jennifer Davis: Cars came in in the '20s.
- 7:40Jennifer Davis: Redmond was a little town.
- 7:43Jennifer Davis: I think 1932 might be a little early.
- 7:45Jennifer Davis: I'm gonna go early but not too early.
- 7:48Jennifer Davis: I'm gonna guess B, 1951
- 7:51Dan Schulz: Y- you haven't seen how people drive around here?
- 7:53Dan Schulz: Would it not shock you if they did not get traffic lights around here s- until 1978?
- 7:59Jennifer Davis: it, it would be shocking.
- 8:01Jennifer Davis: It'd be shock- I, I-- Redmond was a little bigger than that, Dan.
- 8:04Jennifer Davis: I-- you can't...
- 8:05Jennifer Davis: Nah.
- 8:06Jennifer Davis: That would be too late.
- 8:06Jennifer Davis: People, there'd be crashes all over the place
- 8:09Dan Schulz: Jennifer, I am so sorry.
- 8:11Dan Schulz: The answer is actually C, 1966.
- 8:16Dan Schulz: I'm telling you, they got light so late.
- 8:18Dan Schulz: The people here are maniacs
- 8:20Jennifer Davis: that's pretty late in the game.
- 8:23Dan Schulz: That is the year Redmond put in its first traffic light at the corner of Leary Way and Redmond Way.
- 8:29Dan Schulz: Until then, the town simply didn't have enough cars to need one.
- 8:33Dan Schulz: What changed was the, uh, State Route 520 floating bridge, which opened in 1963, and that started sending people over the lake in a hurry.
- 8:42Dan Schulz: Locals took to calling the new intersection Walk and Don't Walk.
- 8:46Dan Schulz: That's what they called it, Walk and Don't Walk.
- 8:49Dan Schulz: You gonna go down by Walk and Don't Walk?
- 8:51Dan Schulz: Three years after the bridge opened, Redmond went from zero traffic lights to needing one, and I hear that they're gonna be getting their third traffic light sometime next year
- 9:02Jennifer Davis: Wow We've heard a Basque pintxos bar is being developed for Redmond, the kind that does late night counter service With jamón, anchovies, and good txakoli.
- 9:20Jennifer Davis: The chef behind it apparently cooked at Seattle's Lark and has been living in San Sebastián.
- 9:26Jennifer Davis: Redmond keeps coming up apparently because the rents here make the math work.
- 9:31Jennifer Davis: None of this is confirmed.
- 9:33Jennifer Davis: We don't have a name, an address, or an opening date.
- 9:37Jennifer Davis: So what's the first thing you'd order at the counter?
- 9:40Jennifer Davis: If you've got a guess or have heard something, head over to our Facebook page at facebook.com/bestofredmond and drop it in the Redmond Rumor Mill Guesses post.
- 9:51Dan Schulz: And while you're at our Facebook page, find the post called Your Picks and answer this question.
- 9:57Dan Schulz: The rumor mill got me hungry, Jennifer.
- 9:59Dan Schulz: We wanna know where you think the best tapas bar is
- 10:04Jennifer Davis: If you've enjoyed this podcast, you're gonna love our companion newsletter.
